HEY! YOU! STUDY BLOG!
YEAH, YOU!
Are you sleeping enough? No? Fix that. Sleep more. Take naps, even. Your work will get done better when rested. Your hobbies will be more fun when you're not tired.
I know this is very hard for a lot of people. Baby steps. Your sleep doesn't need to be perfect immediately, but make it a priority in your life. Get. Enough. Sleep. I'm not saying you need to fix all of it overnight, but it is important that you make sure your sleep is the best it can be right now. Do NOT put work over sleep.
ALRIGHT, SCROLL ON.
If it's late, do me a favour and go tuck in. Get a sleepy time tea. Put on some calming rain sounds. Go forth and sleep, fellow students!

How to Commit to Learning a Language When You Have ADHD (or other attention issues)
imo one of the biggest challenges for learning other languages when you have ADHD (or other attention issues) is trying to pick one to learn and stick with it
and it's not just choosing one in the first place or motivating yourself, it's trying to avoid getting sidetracked by passing interests as you're exposed to other languages
Tumblr media
I have really struggled with this over the years and it's led to me being somewhere between a beginner and intermediate level in a number of languages and not being where I want to be in any of them
SO here my advice as I've tried to tackle this
this starts with prioritizing one (1) language like so:
write down the languages you're currently thinking about learning
write down next to them what motivates you to learn each one
write down what resources are available to you to learn each one (you can do an internet search for this!)
write down what opportunities you'll have to use each one in your daily life (this can include watching movies, TV shows, watching anime, reading books, reading manga, reading web novels or web comics, playing video games, etc. it doesn't just have to be interactive or IRL)
now go through your list and rate each language a number from 1 to 10, some stars out of five stars, a happy face or a sad face, or whatever method for categorisation that feels right to you
next go through and pick the one (1) language that either has the highest all around rating OR the highest rating in the category that is most important to you - it's up to you which method you want to use
this is your priority language. you are going to commit to learning this language no matter what else you're doing.
but you might be thinking "that's all well and good right now but I know after a few days I'm going to be like-"
Tumblr media
so now here's the good part!
you are allowed to learn TWO! languages. but here's the first rule. one of those languages has to be your priority language
that means if you're learning Spanish as your priority language and you decided to learn Japanese as a second language, you can only start learning Telugu if you drop Japanese. you can not drop Spanish and you can not study three languages at once
now here's the second rule. you should, ideally, try to commit to spending at least a few hours a week on your priority language. and any day you decide to study a non-priority language at all you have to spend at least a few additional minutes (your choice how many but be consistent) on your priority language first. so if you want to get down and dirty with Telugu, you better let el español know you haven't forgotten about him first
finally, here's the third rule. you are allowed to change your non-priority language as often as you want! but you're only allowed to reconsider a priority language that you have no experience in once after six months or a priority language you've studied before (including one you continued to commit to after the first six months) once a year
set a date in your calendar and stick to it!
if you have regrets about which one you prioritized because another language is really drawing your attention use your non-priority language slot to work on it
now that you know the rules here's a few more thoughts for people with attention issues
you're probably going to mess this up. that's ok. when you start feeling overwhelmed or demotivated, come back to it. cut out those extra languages and refocus.
the time you spend on languages you don't commit to is NOT wasted. dabbling in other languages strengthens your conceptual understanding of language structures as a whole. it's also easier and faster to relearn a language you have some experience in later than start entirely from scratch. and - and this is the most important part - time spent pursuing your interests is NEVER wasted.
this is just advice to help you get where you want to go with at least one language. while I want you to be able to meet your goals, you should never feel bad for trying something new or wanting to give something another go. have fun!

Twitter user witchytwitchytv on Nov 08, 2022: Indigenous peoples movements are so easily ignored because acknowledging our existence as living peoples rather than as relics of the past makes settlers uncomfortable. You all prefer to pretend we’re dead & gone so you don’t have to face the genocides you still benefit from. It makes you all uncomfortable to remember the people who were displaced for you to live in your cities, towns, and neighborhood are still alive and still displaced. Acknowledging the fact that we’re still alive and fighting makes you face a story where you’re not the hero.

even if you feel like you aren't qualified for something, my best advice is to apply anyway. it's up to the people behind whatever you apply to to decide that, not you. apply to that fellowship, send in that abstract, send that application to that school or that summer program. you'll be surprised with all the doors that open when you do.

its interesting to me how self-deprecation neatly ties into making others feel bad. like. if you constantly assume that you’re stupid no matter how informed or skilled in a topic you might be, people who are a bit less learned or skilled than you might see how you, someone who is obviously skilled, talk down about yourself, and assume that if you think YOURE an idiot you must think theyre an even bigger idiot and lose confidence or find you intimidating as a result. its fucked up. and its part of why it can be so important to break out of cycles of self-hatred–not just for yourself, but for people around you

lunlun's autumn studying challenge! #studyingunderthefallingleaves
Tumblr media
Hi and hello everyone! Welcome to my blog and my studying challenge! ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧ My name is Lunlun. I am creating this challenge because my uni started on October and I want to motivate myself and keep track of my studies. I hope you will participate and enjoy the challenge too!
• How to participate?
Just reblog this post! You don't need to follow me or anything like that. And do not forget to post your posts with the hashtag #studyingunderthefallingleaves so that everyone can see your posts! You do not need to start at a certain date. I wouldn’t even mind if you started the challenge during summer :] Just try to enjoy it and make sure you’re taking breaks and taking good care of yourself!
• Prompts:
Day 1: Welcome! Let’s start with a simple question: What is your major/What do you study?
Day 2: Share your goals for this challenge. What do you want to accomplish by the end of it?
Day 3: What does autumn mean for you?
Day 4: Share a song that has autumn vibes with us.
Day 5: Why did you choose your major/what you study?
Day 6: Are there other languages you learn besides your native langauge? If so, which ones?
Day 7: What is the best place to study for you in autumn?
Day 8: What do you like to drink while you study? You can share the recipe if you want!
Day 9: Do you have a memory, which happened during autumn, you remember with a smile on your face?
Day 10: What is your favorite thing about your major? Why?
Day 11: Which one of your courses do you like the most? And the one you just can’t like no matter what you do?
Day 12: Do you have any studying methods you use? If so, share them with us (please *sobs*)!
Day 13: Which one do you prefer: Digital devices and online platforms or notebooks and books? And why?
Day 14: Share a picture of your favorite pen/pencil!
Day 15: You’ve finished the half of the challenge (for now as more prompts will be added), so let’s look back at your goals. Are you getting closer to accomplishing them?
Day 16: Share an article you’ve read and enjoyed recently.
Day 17: What is your favorite thing about having a studyblr blog?
Day 18: Share a YouTube channel and/or a podcast you like to watch/listen that inspires you.
Day 19: How was your day? You can talk about anything; vent or share a moment. I personally am willing to hear!
Day 20: Where are you from and how is the school system in your country? As a prospective teacher, I like to hear about different education systems. For example, in my country, we have a 4+4+4 system where students study elementary, middle school and high school (seperately) for four years. Most departmens in universities are also for four years; however, medicine students, for example, have to study for six years.
Day 21: Share a random fact you know.
Day 22: What is your best feature according to you?
Day 23: Okay, you have to praise yourself with at least two sentences. Go! I am listening!
Day 24: What do you think about homeworks? Do you think they are necessary or just burden for students?
Day 25: What was your favorite subject as a child?
Day 26: What advice would you give to people who want/will start to study your major?
Day 27: What book are you reading right now? Do you like it so far?
Day 28: Share a playlist you listen to while studying.
Day 29: What is your favorite autumn food?
Day 30: It’s been a month already! How are you feeling? Is keeping up with the challenge tiring? Have you enjoyed it so far? Please share your thoughts!
• From Lunlun: I will add more prompts later, probably for 30 days again. I am posting this part for now as if I try to write more now, I know it’ll take more time for me to share the challenge and don’t wanna miss autumn!

I want everyone to know that there are queers in the hollers of Appalachia, in the bayous and marshland of the Deep South, in Southwestern deserts, through the Ozark mountains and up to the Rockies. There are queers in the Great Plains, there are queers in rural America, in trailer parks of the Osage foothills. In the places you least expect us to live, we are here, carving out community and fighting for liberation with pride despite it all. Stop forgetting about us. Stop overlooking our experiences and our impact just because we don’t live in a Big Gay City. And for the love of God, stop looking at us with pity.

I havent seen anyone talk about this yet so im making a post.
So lets say you’re researching something for a paper (or just for fun) and the research paper you want to read is behind a paywall, or the site makes you create an account first, or makes you pay to download, or limits you to only 5 free articles, or otherwise makes it difficult for you to read what you want.
Tumblr media
do not fear! copy the link to the article
Tumblr media
go to sci-hub.se         (the url is always changing so its best to check out whereisscihub.now.sh to find what the current url is)
Tumblr media
slap the article link in there

I found the most beautiful math book I have ever seen
Tumblr media
it covers the basics of algebraic topology: homotopy, homology, spectral sequences and some other stuff
one of the authors (Fomenko) was a student when this book was being published, he made all the drawings. imagine being an artist and a mathematician aaand making math art
just look at them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
other than those drawing masterpieces there are illustrations of mathematical concepts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm studying homology right now, so it brings me joy to know that this book exists. I don't know how well it's written yet, but from skimming the first few pages it seems fine
I just finished watching a lecture about exact sequences and I find the concept of homology really pretty: it's like measuring to what extent the sequence of abelian groups fails to be exact
I'm trying to find my way of taking notes. time and again I catch myself zoning out and passively writing down the definitions, so right now I avoid taking notes until it's with a goal of using the writing as a tool for acquiring understanding. I'm trying to create the representations of objects and their basic relations in my mind at first, then maybe use the process of note-taking to further analyze less obvious properties and solving some problems
I will post more about it in the future, we'll see how that goes

Tl;dr: A wannabe academic tries to start a studyblr.
Tumblr media
(Tag Navigation + more under the cut)
Tag Navigation---
#academiacore: Miscellaneous thoughts relating to academia, schooling, and the like.
#dirtbagprometheus: Original studyblr content.
#dirtbags spotify: Spotify playlists I've made and published thus far and general song recommendations and rants.
#journal: Excerpts from my journaling I feel the need to put out there.
#personalityprocastination: An over analysis of personality quizzes or traits as a way to feel productive while procrastinating my actual tasks.
#prometheus vents: Rather self-explanatory, ramblings on whatever happens to come to mind.
#reblogs: Reblogged studyblr content.
#reminders: Advice and motivation.
#research: Ramblings on my research or reblogs of research I find interesting.
#writing: Excerpts from my different wips and writing content.
Interests [which you can find more about on my main or other sideblogs]---
Aesthetics: I’m quite obsessed with the concept of aesthetics in the current age of social media and will probably write about it quite a bit. For those interested in aesthetics, my aesthetic has been called by those who know me, a mixture of chaotic/dark academia meets punk all tied in a western bolo tie. Do with that what you will.
Fashion: I have always had an interest in fashion and garment construction, during the March 2020 quarantine, I started working on starting a brand as a way to stay busy. Here’s my fashion sideblog @houseofapotheosis.
Films: A wide variety of films. I don’t use it too much but if we’re mutuals and you want my Letterboxd, ask!
Music: My music taste runs rather diverse, but I tend to fall into more alternative genres. My current most listened to spotify playlist is here.
Politics: I will bring up politics when I feel necessary because it is necessary. All are welcome here and discussions are always ready to be had as long as all parties are respectful and civil. This is not a space which supports conservative or alt-right beliefs.
Philosophy:  Not much to say, but I’m always interested in doing philosophical deep dives and want to use my philosophy degree for something.
Reading: reading is my lifeforce and will always bring up a reason to rant about books. Here’s my StoryGraph.
Religion: I love talking about religion and spirituality and will probably discuss it at length when I want to. This is to say that people of all religions and spiritualities are welcome here and kindness, common sense, and civility are expected. If you are ever curious about my thoughts on religion or spirituality asks and messages are always open.
Writing: Shuffling 20 or so wips around on various topics and writing styles. If you’re curious about my wips, ask me! Here are some of my current wips below
Book: The Thread That Ties; An Anthropology of Religion, Science, and Witchcraft (working on turning my thesis into a book!) Journal Article: Everything's Open, But Some Things Are More Open Than Others; The Fight For Open Access Information in Academic Circles  Poetry: Epithets; Finding The Divine in The Mundane
Purpose for blog creation ---
The short and simple, I started this blog as a way to rebuild myself after a strong bout of burnout. I’ve been hyper driven and ambitious since I was quite young and have always struggled with the workhorse mentality. I haven’t had a moment of rest probably ever and want to use this blog as a way to develop a healthy relationship with academics, career, and myself. Along the road I hope to share my experiences and help others that are going through similar things.
Welcome to my academic labyrinth of a blog, enjoy your stay, don’t get lost, and I'll see you around the woods.
- Prometheus
