Thrown into all this, will our two idiots finally manage to see what has been right in front of them all along?

i remember i read this fic a while ago, and it had me in absolute tears. it’s so beautifully written and it really made me want to give the author a hug ❤️ it’s really painful and i felt so sorry for both harry and louis, my heart was aching for them the entire time i was reading.

can i say that this fic was fucking hilarious. i was laughing my ass off when louis got his bum stuck in that cave. i really loved the build of the tension in this fic, and the forced close proximity between the two of them. i’m always a sucker for that. the activities they did sounded like so much fun too, it was really entertaining to read.

oh the chokehold this fic has on me. i looped mirrorball for weeks after reading this. i always relate the lyrics to this version of louis. i love how inspired this fic was by the song, and how it all came together at the end. i also loved the slow build between louis and harry. i am a sucker for enemies to lovers. i told all of my friends about this fic when i finished it.

wow wow wow wow. i adored this fic. i loved louis’ internal monologue and how he “hated” harry for so long, only to fall for him. the concept of the fic was really well done and it’s such a unique idea as well. it came together beautifully and i absolutely sobbed when i finished it.

this fic was so good! i loved the scenery of it, and the relationship between louis and harry. i absolutely love angst, and this fic had a lot of it. so of course i enjoyed it!! i loved the plot twists too!! luke made me want to punch a wall. i loved harry, and now i really want a harry for myself. i loved the bakery he worked in. i’ve always wanted to travel or move somewhere like italy, so i really really loved this fic. some of the comments Giuseppe made were so funny, and they made me laugh too.

i conveniently read this around the time where we were learning about dreams and the brain in my psychology class. so i definitely think this helped me on my psych test lol. i really really loved this fic, and i loved that harry played the violin. i found it so adorable the way the boys met as well, it seemed very intimate. i loved the soulmate concept of it too, it was genius. i also loved luci as well, and how she had a story to her too. it was also beautifully written.

as someone who identifies as asexual, this fic really touched me. i needed to read this fic because mentally, it really helped me. i’ve struggled a lot with accepting my identity and i felt so close to harry throughout the entire fic. i was crying pretty much the entire time i was reading. i’m just so happy harry got to have a partner that supports and respects him. i could only wish that for myself one day. after i finished reading, i honestly looked at my identity and the world in a new, and brighter light. i just really want to thank the author for writing this fic, it’s truly touched my heart, and i’ll never forget it.

i remember i absolutely loved this fic. there was SO much angst and it was soooo good! i loved the dynamic between louis and harry, and how louis developed a crush on harry. i am also such a sucker for bakery aus! it was really well written and i loved the plot twist!! i have to reread this soon!!

if you like thrillers or creepy stories, i am on my knees and begging you to read this. this fic is probably in my top five favorite fics i’ve ever read over the years. it’s so fucking creepy!!!! i stayed up all night and read it in one go because i just could not put it down!! i had to know what happened next!! i was so stressed and scared reading this too, but in a good way. the plot is literal gold, and i would sell my kidneys to read this again for the first time. now that i’ve read it, i can safely say that i will never go camping! everybody needs to read this, it’s such an underrated gem!! i told all of my friends and i think even my mom about this fic, that’s how fucking good it is. read it.

i always adore this author’s writing, but i specifically loved this fic in particular. the concept of the fic was absolutely incredible, and i loved how louis literally built harry. i wish i could do that to my soulmate lol. i loved the innocence harry had, and how louis had to teach him to do everything. the way harry fixed louis’ loneliness made my heart swell with happiness. the writing is beautiful. it’s truly an amazing fic, everyone should go read it.

i think this is probably in my top two favorite fics i’ve ever read. i’ve never read a fic so fast, and it just felt like i got lost in the story. this story was so fucking incredible to read, the angst was amazing. i loved the plot so much. i’ve read this story twice, and it was just as good the second time, maybe even better. there was this one description of harry, that still sticks with me to this day.

Louis rests his chin on Harry’s chest, taking the opportunity to admire him. His hair is falling across his face; his mouth hangs open slightly, his bottom lip pouting. Peach fuzz dusts his chin, upper lip, and patches of his cheeks. Louis gingerly slides his hand out of Harry’s loose grip. Careful not to wake him, he sweeps the hair off Harry’s face, tucking it behind his ear. He gently strokes the strong line of his jaw and then the slope of his cheeks. Harry scrunches his nose and snuffles; Louis withdraws his hand and holds his breath, fearing that he’s woken him. Harry’s face relaxes a few seconds later and Louis sighs in relief. He continues his exploration, keeping his touch feather-light, gently smoothing out the furrow between Harry’s eyes and tracing the shape of his brows.

He’s beautiful.

after just finishing this fic for the second time, there’s no way i can’t not add it. this masterpiece gave me constant whiplash. one page i was sobbing, then the next i was smiling so hard that my cheeks hurt. it’s so beautifully written and louis’ character is the embodiment of the sun. i loved the soul mark aspect, it’s brilliant and so well executed. everything about this fic was incredible and so well thought out. harry’s character development made me so proud of him. i would stay up late because i couldn’t put this fic down, and my friend would wake up in the morning to me sending screenshots of adorable scenes and messages of me freaking out over this fic. please do yourself a favor and read this incredible work of art.

Today I thought that it's been a long time since I've posted an update to my Halloween fic list, but I haven't read many new fics since, so I though for today's post (because I don't have anything ready anyway) I would go through my MFL List and post up the ones that have been recommended to me throughout the years! Please note I have not read any of these, these are just based on a tag search on my offlline list :)

And because I haven't actually been asked this year for some new fics (I usually do so I am sad lol), I guess I shall make a new list without one!

Wanted: Empath by nutmeag83 (T, 4,886 w., 1 Ch. || Supernatural Elements AU || Empath John, Ghost Hunter Sherlock, Halloween, Haunted Houses, Pining John, Resolved Romantic Tension, Friends to Lovers) – Sherlock is a ghost hunter and John his empath assistant. Near Halloween, they investigate a ghostly sighting at a mansion in the English countryside. The events of their investigation bring their feelings for each other to the fore.

Food goes on the food shelf by avalanching effect (G, 5,283 w., 1 Ch. || Halloween, Pre-Slash, Crack/Humour, Cannibalism, Magical Realism, Witches, Light Gore, POV Sherlock) – John, (without conferring with Sherlock) implements a system of organization in the kitchen. In a manner of speaking I'm dead by fellshish (T, 6,372 w., 1 Ch. || Halloween, Mystrade, Angst With Happy Ending, PIning, First Kiss, Drunk Idiots, Drinking Games, Humour) – Sherlock and John accidentally dress in matching outfits for Lestrade's Halloween party. Things only get worse: someone pushes them to play 'Never have I ever'.

A Beautifully Frightening Revelation by 221b_careful_what_you_wish_for (M, 6,486 w., 2 Ch. || Supernatural Elements AU|| Ghosts, Haunted House, First Kiss/Times, Frottage, Fluff, Halloween, Mutual Pining, Bed Sharing, Spooky) – John and Sherlock are investigating an isolated country manor haunted by a mischievous ghost. A series of spooky incidents brings them together in a candlelit bedroom, the night ripe for revelations and facing fears.

The Babadook by CatieBrie (T, 6,886 w., 1 Ch. || Babadook Fusion || Post-TRF, Horror, Demonic Possession, Violence, Halloween, Grief, Angst with Happy Ending) – “A children’s book,” John mutters as he flips it open. The pages are scrawled with beautiful charcoal lines and thick black ink. The cover, bright red, edges the open pages and something tugs at the back of John’s brain. It’s a familiar feeling, black and tarrish and thick in his thoughts. He shakes it off and picks the book up off his bed, turning so that he can sit on the edge and spread the book out across his knees. If it’s in a word or it’s in a look, you can’t get rid of the Babadook. He turns the page, ignoring the pressure building beneath his chest. There’s a closet on one page; paper doors meant to be opened by the reader flutter as John reads the text on the other page.

The Spirit Child by VelvetMace (M, 7,287 w., 1 Ch. || Psychological Horror, Disturbing Themes, Horror, Gore) – A small wooden box filled with clay and feotus bones yields more than just clues to a violent murder. A Halloween Story. Read at your own risk -- and I do not say this lightly.

Were it Well by merelypassingtime (G, 7,496 w., 6 Ch. || Shapeshifter AU || Crack, Halloween) – When moving in with the world's only consulting detective John is concerned he won't be able to keep his secret. Turns out he need not have worried.

Una Guía (Incompleta) del Fanfiction

Si eres una persona activa en fandoms, seguro que más de una vez has leído la palabra fanfiction o fanfics en las discusiones de los foros. Para los nuevos en la red, esto debe ser un dolor de cabeza. ¿Qué rayos es un fanfic? ¿Con qué se come?

¡No te preocupes! En este blog te explico de qué te estás perdiendo. Vamos a descubrir tu nueva obsesión.

Venga, para empezar es necesario definir el concepto.

Según internet, el fanfiction es, en su traducción literal, una ficción de fans. En cuentas más sencillas de entender, son historias escritas por fanáticos que se derivan de otras obras originales.

Pongamos un ejemplo; supongamos que eres fan de la saga de Harry Potter, tanto así que te preguntas qué pasaría si Harry nunca hubiera recibido la carta de Hogwarts y un día decides escribir lo que supones que ocurriría. ¿Cómo se enteraría de la existencia de ese lugar? ¿Conocería a Ron y Hermione? ¿Se haría amigo de Draco?

Bueno, pues los fanfickers (escritores de fanfics) mantienen un proceso similar con cada idea que se les ocurre, plasmándola en distintas plataformas digitales. En sus textos tienen la libertad de cambiar la historia original, la personalidad de los personajes, las parejas canónicas, agregar personajes nuevos e incluso darle un giro totalmente a la temática original para representar un AU (que son las siglas en inglés de Alternative Universe).

Ya aclarado el concepto, toca pasar a los distintos AUs que podemos encontrar en los fanfics. La lista será de los más comunes que, te aseguro, encontrarás en cualquier fandom.

Mafia AU: Como su nombre lo indica, se refiere a un ambiente de mafia y todo lo que este implica. Esto abarca quizás una relación líder-secuestrado, asesinos de organizaciones rivales, algo entre líderes, etcétera.

Medical/Doctor AU: ¿Y si los personajes fuera doctores? Esto da paso a varias formas de desarrollar parejas entre dos médicos, doctor-paciente, dos pacientes, aprendices…

Royal AU: Las temáticas reales siempre son muy buscadas por lectores y se mantiene entre las favoritas para escribir, pues las relaciones prohibidas entre miembros reales o los amores imposibles entre campesinos y gobernantes son siempre bienvenidas.

Historical AU: Piensa en algún suceso histórico que te guste, ya sea en tu país o en uno extranjero. ¿Cómo actuarían los personajes en él? ¿De qué forma participarían?

Harry Potter AU: Es una buena opción si prefieres la magia. Apuesta en qué casa estaría tu personaje favorito y revisa la opinión de los fanfickers al respecto.

High School AU: El clásico e indiscutible. Cualquier amante de fanfics ha leído al menos uno de esta temática por cada fandom en el que se mueva. El leer a los nuestros caracteres viviendo cosas cotidianas y juveniles se mantiene como un buen confort para todos.

Criminal AU: ¿Ladrones? ¿Asesinos? ¿Quiénes estarán en el lado de la justicia?

Pirates AU: Una vida en el mar con lapsos larguísimos antes de tocar tierra firme suena entretenido para pasar un buen momento.

Strippers AU: Ahora que si buscas algo más spicy, esta temática seguro llamará tu atención pues, si está bien narrada puede ser de las mejores cosas para leer.

Alice in Wonderland AU: Alicia, El Sombrerero, La Reina de Corazones… ¿imaginas quién tomaría cada papel? En un mundo de cabeza todo puede volverse extraño.

Soulmate AU: Uno de mis favoritos cuando quiero llorar, pues nos deja en dos extremos de la balanza; puede ser la cosa más tierna y hermosa o también la más dolorosa. Todo depende del autor.

Amnesia AU: Uno de ellos olvidó a todos los demás en algún accidente. El chiste es averiguar si recuperará la memoria o empezará a construir nuevas memorias desde cero.

Circus AU: La vida circense siempre es una fuente de interés. Organizar qué actos le podrían corresponder a cada uno y sus atuendos siempre es emocionante.

Es importante recordar que el AU no define si la historia será feliz, triste, emocionante o graciosa. Para eso existen los géneros, que te mostraré a continuación:

Angst: Capturan el sufrimiento del protagonista.

Crossover (X-over): Mezclan personajes de dos o más series y hacen que interactúen entre sí.

Fluff: Son historias lindas, tiernas y felices (todo lo contrario al angst). Su finalidad es transmitirle esta sensación a sus lectores.

Hurt/Comfort: Aquí un personaje es herido física o emocionalmente y él mismo (o algún otro) debe ayudarlo a recuperarse. Suele darse entre fanfics de parejas para crear un interés romántico entre ellos.

Real People/Real Person: Involucran a personas no ficticias como actores, artistas u otros rostros famosos.

Songfic: Relato inspirado en una canción, específicamente en su letra. Esta puede ir intercalada entre párrafos de la historia, con una línea citada o al inicio/final de la historia.

Spamfic: Un fanfic corto y casi siempre sin sentido alguno, normalmente se ponen en esta clasificación los textos escritos por personas que no conocen nada del fandom.

Rapefic: Hace alusión o narra explícitamente la violación de algún personaje. Se asocia al angst y al lemon.

Slash: Habla de dos personajes masculinos teniendo una relación sentimental.

Femslash: Contrario al slash, este refiere a dos mujeres manteniendo una relación sentimental.

Lime: Son tensiones sexuales y referencias al acto no explícitas.

Lemon/Smut: La narración explícita del acto sexual.

OTP Fanfiction: Son las siglas de One True Pairing (un verdadero emparejamiento). Este género habla de las parejas destinadas a estar juntas, es decir, las favoritas de los fans.

Comedy: Historias cuyo fin es hacer reír al lector. Pueden tener poca trama.

Reader Insert: También llamados Rayita, T/N o Y/N, estos son textos que normalmente están escritos en segunda persona y se encargan de introducir al lector como un personaje principal en la historia, dejando muy ambiguas las características descritas para hacer que se sienta lo más identificado posible. Casi siempre se hace en narraciones donde lo emparejan con algún personaje. Si está bien escrito es de las mejores cosas que puedes encontrar.

Mary Sue: Es el self-insert del escritor en la obra. En la mayoría de las veces es presentado como un personaje perfecto, sin errores y, en pocas palabras, el protagonista, llegando a ser molesto.

¡Muy bien! Ya solo queda explicarte las clasificaciones de los fanfics, pues se colocan en un lugar de acuerdo a su extensión.

Drabble: Anteriormente contenían un máximo de 100 palabras, pero actualmente se pueden extender hasta las 500.

Viñeta: Su límite está entre las 500 y las 1000 palabras.

One Shot: Son fanfics cortos de más de mil palabras, pero cuya extensión se limita a un solo capítulo.

LongFic: La clasificación más larga, pues no tiene un límite de palabras y pueden tener varios capítulos, dejando ambas cifras a la elección del ficker.

Como puedes ver, el mundo del fanfiction es un sistema organizado y clasificado. Todo ello con la finalidad de que los fans puedan disfrutar de contenido de su fandom en diversas plataformas. A continuación una lista de las que yo uso y considero mejores.

Archive of Our Own: Llamada comúnmente Ao3, es sin duda mi plataforma favorita para leer. Tiene una cantidad innumerable de trabajos a disposición del lector de forma completamente gratuita. Fundada en 2008, este es una excelente herramienta para obtener una variedad de resultados sobre, literalmente, cualquier género y AU que se pueda imaginar. Su sistema de etiquetas, además, nos permite ser específicos con lo que queremos leer, dándonos las opciones de excluir parejas, fandoms, temáticas y hasta proporcionar las cantidades de comentarios, votos, y capítulos que deseamos encontrar en las obras sin ningún tipo de censura. El único detalle es que la mayor parte de su catálogo se encuentra en inglés, pero no es nada que no se pueda solucionar con un buen traductor.

Wattpad: Se trata de una comunidad de lectores/escritores. Fundada en 2006, esta aplicación (que también cuenta con un sitio web), nos permite leer historias, tanto de nuestros personajes favoritos como de autores originales. Pese a que su sistema de búsqueda es muy inferior al de Ao3, no se exenta de tener en su catálogo algunas joyas literarias. Su sistema de comentarios se destaca, además, por permitirnos escribir uno en cada párrafo, contrario a las demás páginas que solo nos dan la opción de colocar uno por capítulo.

Fanfiction.net: Fundado en 1998, tiene el título de ser el mayor archivo de fanfics. Cuenta con más de dos millones de usuarios que escriben en más de 30 lenguas distintas.

Tumblr: Sí, así como has leído. Aquí mismo se pueden encontrar fanfics. Simple y sencillamente porque esta red social fundada en 2007, se pueden subir todo tipo de archivos, gifts, textos e imágenes. Solo es cosa de buscar entre las etiquetas alguna que diga fanfiction + el nombre del fandom/pareja que desees y observarás la magia.

Ahora sí que puedes decir que te encuentras más informado del rollo. Con esta guía puedes dejar de sentirte desactualizado cada vez que lees esa palabra en foros, recuerda regresar aquí si tienes alguna duda de cómo es que funciona este mundo. No tengas miedo de adentrarte en él, te aseguro que es divertido e interesante, además de que ayuda a mantener al fandom activo y los impulsa a sacar a flote más ideas.
