handbinding project: He Says He Is An Experimental Theologian, part 1 of @bicatperson's WTNV/HDM crossover.

This is a remake of one I did three years ago (lent it to a friend, he moved, making an entirely new book seemed like less work than coordinating with the friend of a friend he left it with.) The original typeset was a 6x9 so I had to readjust it to fit 5.5x8.5, and I also changed out the symbols so they'd print more easily. The new ones are a font made by the wonderful rosed from the Renegade Bindery discord.

Fun fact: the arrangement of the hands on the cover also correlates to specific alethiometer symbols because I got that in the weeds about it all.

This cover was a motherfucker and a half because heat transfer vinyl is out to ruin my life: on the original version, I applied the spine art it to the fabric before putting it on the cover, so that I could make sure it was centered. I then tried to use the same HTV to put the symbol on the cover, which did not work no matter how many times and how much heat I tried. (I realized later I'd forgotten to heat the cover first.) So then I tried to peel it up, and it didn't come all the way, so I took that cover off (hooray for wheat paste) and tried putting the vinyl on the fabric before I made the case. despite measuring multiple times, the circle ended up waaay off center. Possibly because I was trying to do this at 11pm. Eventually I just went to Joann's and bought adhesive vinyl, and only adhesive vinyl, even though there was a sale and all vinyl was 40% off. I ended up having to replace the beehive with the night vale eye, because the beehive symbol was a bunch of little lines the adhesive did nOT like, but I think the Night Vale eye looks better anyway.

yeeesss welcome to the delights of Moonmoon shipping, anon sadasasdasd 🤍🤍 I just love those two so much 😭

That being said, as far as long fics for Marcsteven go, it's unfortunately slim pickings with how tiny this fandom is *SOBS* (nearly all my faves are WIPS that haven't updated in a year or more ;-----;). With that being said, if you're okay with me defining "long fic" as fics 20k or over, here are my personal finished faves!

Adjustments by Nagem and its Marcstevenjake sequel, Waiting Room. Ughhhh I was obsessed this pair when they came out.

All this time I was waiting for you by Nakimochiku. Just Marc and Steven being pinning oblivious idiots with slowly simmering sexual tension ;) Also I loved everything Moon knight related by this author, i read their stuff again and again all the time <3

If you don't mind expanding your horizons to include Marcstevenjake, definitely give In the Aftermath series by Queenie a try (or at least the first three Marcsteven-only fics in the series).

What the Right Hand is Doing by Erinptah was such a gem (and try out their Cover by Knight series if you like Moon knight crossovers with other MCU characters. Now THAT'S a long fic [series])

Love Song for a Deadman and The Measure of Things by friight. Actually one of the few fics on here that actually reach past 50k ^u^;; And both are so good!!!

See Through My Act, Tell Me I'm Wrong by snapdragonpop007 is a fandom favorite, and another author whose MK work I will always devour <3

All the Ashes of Our Days, As If it Were the Last Time and Until You Drown all written by MitchieSawyer, and they're some of my favorites fics that have come out within the last year, a year that has otherwise been nearly dead for Marcsteven fic. {Ashes made me sob !!!] And their current WIP, The Less I Give, the More I Give Back, is a wonderful arranged marriage fic, with Marc and steven's contrasting approaches to their Jewish heritage a main focus, and has been updating more or less every week!!!!

That being said.... if like I said you're willing to give polycule Marcstevenjake a shot.... and take a chance on a WIP.... you really really should check out Middle of Nowhere by fishtrombone. Anon, I am OBSESSED with this fic. It hasn't been out a full year yet and it's already at 350k!!!! Technically the longest fic in the fandom and still more to come!!! Marc, Steven, Jake split into separate bodies and stranded in America, bottlenecked in a run down cabin and navigating their complex relationships as the apocalypse looms!! Angsty as shit! Possibly one of my favorite fics of all time, this fic has pulled me along the full spectrum of human emotions the writing is almost painfully beautiful at times, the characterization is spot on {and yes reccing because I need more people to read this fic and give it kudos and encouragement <3)

Truth be told, I am a huge Madohomu (*sigh* it’s a brainrot) shipper but I see nothing wrong with shipping Madosaya (speaking of which, does that mean you’ve read Persephone’s Waltz by ErinPtah?). That…is a really mean thing to do.

Just ignore them. Ship what you like!! Attacking someone because they ship something you don’t is a really mean and toxic thing to do (….man, all those ship wars in Undertale).

We got your back!! Don’t let them beat you down!

Like I said, I have a lot of defenders out there who always back me up. So their support outweighs the toxicity. But it's very difficult to ignore the hate and backlash.

I have autism and seeing hate comments put me down too hard. Even if they are joking, I don't get sarcasm. Because of it, I get too much flag for listening to the haters. It is impossible to get away from it.

But here's the thing: I love Madohomu too. Hell, I even cried during my rewatch because it was so beautiful and heartbreaking. I just prefer Madosaya because it's a comfort ship. These two love each other so much that I want them to have happiness.

Also, yes, I did read Persephoone's Waltz but never finished it. @silvermoon424 mentioned that it doesn't have a happy ending and... I don't want to go through that. My heart is not in the right place, and honestly, I don't plan on ever finishing it. Still a great story as far as I read.

Do you read any Madoka Fanfics? If so which do you recommend?

I have this weird thing where I only read fanfics for specific fandoms a lot of the time, lol (right now it's JoJo). So I don't really have many Madoka fic recs. However, I do have one excellent recommendation:

Fic summary:

The more times she fails to save Madoka, the more desperate Homura gets...until kidnapping her and locking her in a basement until Walpurgisnacht is over stops sounding like such a crazy idea.

Yeah, the premise is dark and Homura is more unhinged than usual, but don't worry, this isn't a "Homura keeps Madoka in a sex dungeon" exploitative fic or whatever. She really does just lock Madoka up in order to hide her from Kyubey until Walpurgisnacht is over, all the while trying to reveal the truth to her.

There's so much I love about this fic but I don't want to spoil it. But just be warned it doesn't have a happy ending.

Also, if anyone has any PMMM (or Magia Record) fic recs, I'd really love to hear them!!

I just binged "He Says He Is an Experimental Theologian" by ErinPtah (Night Vale daemon au but also HDM crossover) and I'm now on the sequel and it's INCREDIBLE. I love how the author thinks through things like public transit and football games with daemons (they also cite an animorphs daemon au as being formative but I cannot remember the title or author. They're somewhere in there)

Ever since Carlos was little, he and his daemon have been fans of Dr. Lyra Belacqua. Both as the most groundbreaking experimental theologian of the 20th century, and as the heroine of dozens of fantasy-adventure children's stories (based very loosely on her own mysterious childhood).

But Lyra's true legacy is still bigger than Carlos ever imagined...until he took a team of scholars to study Rusakov particles in the most theologically interesting community in Hispania Nova. Now his own day-to-day life is full of things like angels, witches, hooded spectres, portals between worlds, vague yet menacing branches of the Magisterium, and a man who walks around without his daemon and can read an alethiometer as easily as a stop sign.

AH so i have read this one (at least all of the first fic, i think?) and it is a good one, however it tends not to make my rec lists when the subject comes up bcos i gave up on the series after the length of it got kind of overwhelming. also, some aspects of it just aren't to my personal taste as daemon AUs go.

Let me love you while the moon is still out by Lady_Clow is a hauntingly beautiful little fic.

If you don't mind ambiguous endings, I really liked the The Happy Ending by kimmy and Mkocuria. (the art at the end is delicious too <3)

come on, come on, darlin by above the ruins, is the sweetest little 5 things + 1 fic, especially if you love the moon boys using petnames with each other. Their second fic We can live right here (like a memory) is also quite good.

You Tried to Be a Hero by highkingpenny. 16k, no explicit sex really despite the rating, but I loved the banter between Marc and Steven (still crying over Marc calling Steven his little noodle boy)

If you haven't already, I'd also say check out anything marcsteven that's been written by the AO3 writers TheCarrot, usurp, lostmagician, gloss, pardillo, nakimochiku, It's_brilliant_thor, kika444, and snapdragonpop007. I'll read anything they write, and total, they make up probably half of my reading list anyways.

And if you don't mind WIPS (most of these update semi-regularly), Consider the Flowers (They Don't try to look right) by sacrificeplay and Narcissus in Blue by chashuu are two of the fics that gave me the most Moon knight brain worms. Fall Into Line by Yersifanel is a beast of a fic that hurts so good, What the Right Hand is Doing by ErinPtah has been really interesting so far (and you might consider checking out their Cover of Knight series if you like crossovers and headspace polycule fic), and if you're looking for angsty Hate to Love fic, friight just posted the first chapter for Love Song for a Deadman (i'm assuming you have but if you haven't, also definitely check out their completed beast of a slowburn fic The Measure of Things.)

Hopefully this helps at least a little bit, anon! Like you, I'm starved for any and all new content, i swear I've been refreshing the ao3 tab since last march. Feel free to look at my ao3 bookmarks as well, the first 6 pages are nearly all Marcsteven/Marcstevenjake fic, and I update as I reread fics and add them to my kindle.
