OF COURSE💗💗 el is my everything.

el is a lover of all insects. all of them. if jonathan or will ever find a spider in the house they are forbidden to kill it on pain of the silent treatment— instead, they just call her and she scoops them up and lets them outside.

el prefers the disney princess band-aids above all the others.

el’s favorite music artists are ABBA and madonna, and anyone who enters her room while she’s playing it will be roped into a little dance party with her.

el takes after nancy a lot, not just because she owns her hand-me-downs and whatnot but also because she generally admires her. she loves nancy’s hair and the way she makes collages out of little photos and posters in her room. so el tries similar hobbies, and expectedly, enjoys them. jonathan informs nancy of how much el likes her and nancy thinks it’s the cutest thing in the world.

el is a wonderful advice-giver, and many of the party members like to talk to her when they’re having an issue. she’ll sit them down, get a snack, play with their hair and the two can talk for hours.

mike was the person who taught el how to do makeup.

accompanying all the letters she sends to mike or max, el adds little confetti-like paper hearts and stars to the envelope. opening her letters is like opening a piñata.

el is very touchy with the people that she loves. she’ll link arms with will, hold hands with max, poke mike in the ribs whenever given the opportunity.

El Headcanons because why not?

• when it comes out, El reads Matilda by Roald Dahl and instantly falls in love with Matilda. She loves that there's this little girl with telekinesis just like her but she's not a superhero. She uses her powers to get rid of Ms Trunchbull but then Matilda lives a pretty normal life (except for the fact that she's a child genius).

• Dustin introduces her to the concept of Musicals and she loves them too. Imagine her delight when Matilda the Musical is first produced.

• other than star wars, El's not a huge fan of Sci-fi films. She says it's not as fun when you've been the protagonist of a Sci-fi film in real life. She also doesn't like how few girls there are in Sci-fi. (At least when she's young)

• she likes using her telekinesis for everyday things like changing the channels on TV or cheating at basketball with Lucas. It's nice to do fun things with her powers. She doesn't have to use them to save the world anymore.

• she steals everyone's clothes. But not on purpose. See when she gets them they're in Will’s closet but originally it was Steve's sweater. (Robin stole it from him. Nancy borrowed it from her. Mike picked it up in a rush. Will was cold and Mike wasn't having that.) She loves Max and Will’s clothes, but her fashion idol is Argyle.

• she's really good at maths. In contrary to Will who can barely add 2+2. She, Mike and Dustin are in the top Math class together, she always sits between them in the front row.

• she takes woodwork, after seeing things that Jonathan made she decides to try her hand at it. And she's really good at it! She makes a coffee table to replace the one she and Will accidentally broke. (It was a long story involving an unseen cushion and the last cookie...) In her senior year she makes a plaque and engraves the whole party’s names into it. The beautiful wooden shield hangs proudly in Mike's basement, above the old card table that saw many campaigns over the years.

• Together she and Will designed her dnd character. Princess El the Brave hearted. A mage who wears beautiful gowns and cloaks but kicks ass with her magic. Nothing wrong with being feminine and powerful-- that's what Nancy taught her.

• she was allowed to pick her birthday date. Unfortunately for everyone around her, she decides to change it every now and then. Every new years day she decides when and lets everyone know. Sometimes it's her estimated birthdate, sometime in February. More often than not it's the 22nd of March so she and Will can be like twins. (Will doesn't mind, he likes seeing her plan their parties. It's a very chaotic business and usually involves a lot of eggo waffles and Reese's pieces.) If she’s feeling particularly funny, sometimes she decides it's the 11th of November.

• when she realises that girls can have short hair and still be feminine she cuts hers so it's short enough to curl, but long enough that she can put clips in it. When she's older she dyes the ends purple.

• she loves Joan Jett. Says she's bitchin. She's listened to just about everything Joan Jett ever played.

okay but imagine dming a girls-only dnd campaign with Nancy, Robin, El, Max, and Erica

The D&D scene in Hawkins has always been kind of barren. A boys club if you will. Of course there was always the party and the Hellfire Club but you were always looking for a space where you could feel more comfortable playing with other girls.

When things become more stable in Hawkins you acquired a solid group of female friends. Nancy and Robin are your age, and while you definitely spend time with the boys, you’ve started to hang out just the three of you.

El and Max are younger than you but you always enjoy their company. You serve as a kind of older sister figure to the party and the two of them kind of look up to you.

You’ve only recently started hanging around Erica but you like her a lot and once she gets in to D&D you two start to bond.

It’s actually Erica’s idea to start the campaign in the first place.

All of the girls are coming in with different levels of experience.

Nancy has observed D&D through Mike for a good chunk of her life and has occasionally participated so she knows the basic mechanics and other random facts about the game.

Robin has never touched a 20 sided die in her life. The people that she’s hung out with before the summer of 85 were never the type to play D&D and she barley knew it existed before the whole Satanic Panic thing started to sweep Hawkins.

Max has always been a bit put off by D&D. At first it was something that was used to exclude her from the group and once she became friends with the party she would be insecure that she wasn’t as good at it as the boys were. Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will had been playing forever and she feels like she doesn’t fit in.

When you pitch the idea to her you assure her that the majority of the participants are starting from square one and there's nothing to be worried about. That persuades her to give it a shot.

El is just happy to be doing something with other girls. Of course she’s friends with Max but she longs for more female company. She also knows a little about D&D due to how much Mike has tried to explain it to her.

Once Robin is introduced to D&D and learns the rules she’s super psyched about playing and creating her character. She also rolls her dice really weird (big Ally Beardsley ala Fantasy High energy).

Robin is obsessed with languages so she quickly tries to learn Elvish and uses it during role play. Her experience in drama also leads her to commit especially hard (sometimes too much lol).

As for classes and races: Robin plays as a teifling bard, Erica as a half-elf rouge, Max as a tabaxi barbarian (my first instinct was also rouge but Lady Applejack is already a rouge so gahhh), El as a half-elf mage, and Nancy as an elven duel class cleric and fighter.

Nancy is the resident note taker and jots down every detail, stat, and piece of inventory.

She also probably unravels all of your planning with her great detective work. Like you’ll spend ten hours crafting a mystery that's supposed to be revealed in the very last session and she cracks it by the third.

Erica spends hours hand painting minis for each character. The detail is astounding.

"Did you paint a tiny star in her eye?" "I'm thorough."

El is that player who cannot do basic addition for the life of her (aka me). Max always has her back though.

"I rolled an eighteen. Eighteen plus seven is ....." "Twenty five." "Thank you."

El is also proficient in animal handling and constantly adopts wildly dangerous creatures to be her pets.

You might think that Erica is a head-straight-into-battle kind of player due to the absolute powerhouse that is Lady Applejack but she's actually incredibly tactical. Her and Nancy tend to alternate as party leader.

Max and Robin on the other hand are the kind of players who crave chaos.

You: "The villager seems to know something about the creature that lives in the woods. You can see however that he's apprehensive to answer any of your questions."

Max: "This guy is totally shady." Robin: "Yeah you're right ... we should punch him." Max: "Oh my god you're so right. If I roll a nat 20 can a tooth fly out?"

As a DM you are very attentive to your players. You craft scenarios for each girl to shine and show their growth as a player. You also make little dice boxes and customize. You make their favorite treats and have them in the middle of the table every session.

You notice they all seem to be getting closer and more comfortable with the game which warms your heart.

Sessions are hosted on Friday nights and usually conclude with movies, pizza, and sleeping over someone's house based on the availability of their living room.

Each girl also gets to make her own mixtape to play during sessions. The vibes of which are all over the place. Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Kate Bush, Tiffany, Blondie. The works.

The environment of the campaign is so comfortable. Yes you're putting their characters through horrible danger and mental gymnastics but its out of love <3.

Your players are amazing. You feel so lucky that you're able to share something you love with the girls in your life and make it your own.

By the time you're nearing the end of your campaign Dustin and Lucas are begging to get in on the action for the next one, only to be disappointed when Robin slams the door in their faces clarifying that this party is "Ladies Only!".

Stranger Things Headcanons: Kids

Dustin Henderson

- Doesn’t like pickles, but will eat Suzie’s if she gets some on her food at a restaurant. No, it does not occur to him for them to both just not eat them

- Secretly writes Father’s Day cards to Steve- but he never gives them to him

- Has held his breath until he passed out just to see if he could do it

- Flicks Robin randomly

- Has eaten his cat’s food before to “test the flavor”

Max Mayfeild

- Actually enjoys eating pickles

- Sleeps with a nightlight, but god help you if you mention it

- Will 100% throw down for her friends, and has asked Murray for karate lessons

- Has also secretly written Steve a Father’s Day card. Has given him a Mother’s Day card though.

- Enjoys scary movies, makes popcorn for her movie nights with Robin. (She actually gets excited for their hangouts)

- One of her favorite colors is pink

Lucas Sinclair

- Extremely mildly allergic to peanuts

- Has gotten his tongue stuck to a pole in winter

- Rents/borrows Disney movies for date nights with Max

- Afraid of bees

- Super good with directions and remembering how to get to places

- Really likes sharks, and will talk about them for hours if you let him

- Almost swooned when he saw Max with her hair down for the first time

Erica Sinclair

- Wanted to be a ballerina at one point and because of this is scarily light on her feet

- Color codes her notes for school

- Has also asked Murray for karate lessons

- Queen of surprise parties

- Spontaneously quizzes Dustin and Lucas on DND lore

- Joins Max and Robin for their movie nights and is excited as they are

- Meticulously neat handwriting

Mike Wheeler

- Has 100% stuck a tampon up his nose

- When he has to eat peas he swallows them whole so he doesn’t taste them

- Has accidentally electrocuted himself at least once

- Actually a pretty good cook when he tries

- Didn’t know left from right for a while when he was younger

Jane Hopper/ El

- Isn’t a fan of clowns

- Enjoys when her hair stands up from static electricity

- A dinosaur kid

- Stands barefoot in the rain

- Loves bowling

- Has days where food just has too much flavor

Will Byers

- Also a dinosaur kid (he was the one who taught El all about them)

She has a journal of sorts which is barely holding on due to the fact she has used about every medium known to man on it depending on how she felt that day, between putting butterfly stickers or writing ten page "letters" or straight up cutting the pages. I once wrote a WHOLE ENTIRE THING on this which has been lost to the ages ugh

Her clothes are full of LOVE! Almost everything my girl wears has been previously owned by a family member a friend or her partners. There are also ones she recieved as gifts or ones she picked out, and they all hold love differently. Enjoys very much to play musical instruments, much to the dismay of anyone who hears. (Pains me to write as a musician bc she's meant to be just like me /j) Lucas Max Dustin and Jonathan love listening to her actually, even if she isn't considered "good" at music.

Prefers reading aloud over in her head, she really likes novels but the format with the huge block of text sucks ass so she gravitates to comics even though they aren't her preferred stories. She loves nonfiction though, and she got Nancy's animal book that she referenced in ST1 to catch the demogorgon and now El reads it all the time, being more proficient in the specific words. But she also gets new nonfiction nature books from the library (RIP Hawkins library) and knows. So many facts.

Speaking of, she can fairly easily sound out words with a bunch of syllables(even if her intonation is off-putting she's actually pronouncing it right" but she fucking hates silent letters. And conjugating. (<- canon evidence I swear) and whatever the fuck kind of dance though through thou and tough have got going on.

Elumax jocks REAL okay they go skating together play basketball together and hike together.

Everyone jokes about Steve being the babysitter or the mom friend, but no one actually appreciates everything he does until he gets sick. Steve is the epitome of a doting parent; sure, he's only twenty and the seven kids he's adopted aren't actually his in any legal way, but those kids are his pride and fucking joy. Anyone who sees Steve with those kids can tell that he loves them deeply, which is why Steve is the only person in the Party that can convince their parents to allow anything- their parents KNOW that their kids will not only be well looked after, but they'll be genuinely enjoying themselves too.

Because he's a single mom except he's actually just barely out of his teenage years with no kids, he gets a lot of shit from everyone about it; he's known almost exclusively to the Party as Mama Steve (when he isn't in earshot of course). That's all fine by Steve, he always wanted a big family and now he has it. The problems start to appear when the Party realizes that Steve Harrington flat out ignores his own needs until they're so pressing that he's physically unable to do anything.

It all starts when Robin is told by Keith, of all people, that Steve has called in sick. Robin, of course, panics and calls him, and when he doesn't answer she calls Eddie to check on him. He and Steve had gotten closer since spring break, so it wasn't unusual for a member of the party to call either Eddie or Steve to check in on the other.

Eddie checks in to find Steve Harrington, badass warrior prince incarnate, sobbing from a blanket mountain on the couch in his living room. No one has ever actually seen Steve cry before, so Eddie freaks out, but it's just the result of a high fever and watching Old Yeller by himself. After calming the sick man, Eddie managed to coax some medicine into him and call Family Video to let Robin know that, yes, Steve is alive and no, he wasn't going to die of fever, but he only manages to get Steve to sleep by reading to him (Eddie finds it disgustingly adorable, even more so later when Nancy mentions that Steve loves stories but struggles with what he calls "moving letters"). And for the next two weeks, Steve is down for the count. Joyce and Claudia Henderson take turns making sure Steve is alright (Joyce because Steve is one of Her Kids, and Claudia because Steve is the Older Son she never had) while Eddie, Nancy, Jonathan, and Robin all try to take his place.

By the end of the first day, Nancy calls it quits: Mike is a bullheaded terror who only ever seems to like Will, El, or Eddie, and even then he doesn't always listen to them, so the Wheeler siblings fight even more ferociously than usual. She can't get El or Erica to listen, either; Erica is a force to be reckoned with, and El will only nod passively before doing what she wants anyway. By the end of day three, Jonathan is out. He won't say what happened, but he told Max to be nicer to the Party one time and, ten minutes later, he was tearfully saying that the kids were little monsters.

Robin lasts longer, almost an entire week, by chattering at the kids until they give up and listen to her. She meets her match when Dustin and Erica try to commandeer the Family Video computer again: Dusting sneaks past and almost breaks the computer just trying to get to it while Erica does Erica and argues until Robin the Rambler runs out of words. The morning of day seven is very dark for her.

Eddie, through what he believes to be the universe's acknowledgement of the depth of his affection for Steve and also sheer force of will, lasts the whole two weeks, but just barely. Mike argues over everything, no matter what; Will is skittish at the best of times and disappears constantly (thankfully, not like his Upside Down episodes - the boy just can't stop getting distracted and wandering away from the group), only to reappear directly behind Eddie and scaring him into an early grave; Lucas gets frustrated easily and can never seem to find the right words to communicate his thoughts and feelings, so he snarks and lashes out before awkwardly trying to mend the situation; Erica is so completely herself that it can be dizzying when the full force of that hurricane is directed towards Eddie; Dustin practically follows Eddie around like a little duckling, demanding updates on Steve or ranting about one of his many interests; El spends most of her time with the Party learning about how girls her age act through Max or practicing her braiding on Eddie. The worst of them all, though, is Max. Despite having healed up, she's still in physical therapy to rebuild her muscle strength and dexterity, and her eyesight is bad enough now that there's talk of her getting a service animal. It isn't that she needs a little extra attention that makes her the worst, though: it's that somehow, she still chases the most mischief. Eddie has only narrowly managed to keep her from assaulting no less that nine people in the two weeks that Steve is sick, and he knows she's definitely tried to commit arson at least twice that often.

Finally, after two weeks, Steve feels better enough to return to his usual activity, and Eddie begs him to never get sick again.

el has a very soothing singing voice. if max or lucas are in need of a nap, they’ll ask el to sing them to sleep.

sometimes el and lucas sneak up to max, shriek “MAX SANDWICH!!!” and then wrap her in a group hug.

max and el take lucas on their shopping trips. he gives incredible fashion advice, and though he finds the mall generally boring, he ends up having a lot of fun because the girls are with him.

when max was in a coma, el and lucas made sure to spend as much time by her side every day. after they get kicked out of the hospital due to visitor hours being over, lucas tended to get highly anxious. el picked up on this early on, and made it her duty to walk him home every day and hold his hand. sometimes they’d talk about max, sometimes they’d end up crying. ultimately, they were both comforted by these walks, and got to know each other better in the meantime.

el made the three of them matching bracelets, that have all their favorite colors wound together.

if they all went to hawkins high, they would one hundred percent skip class together and go out for ice cream.

they are all incredibly protective of each other. no one wants to mess with them, because if they do they’ll get two if not three people holding a serious grudge against them for a very long time.

lucas reads to el and max out loud very often. the three of them collectively adore sci-fi and romance books. whenever they finish a book, el scours the library for a new one. she always finds great, under-appreciated stories.

one day in california someone asks el if her and will are twins and she just fucking explodes. she loves the idea. yes, absolutely she and will are twins, what a fantastic concept, thank you. she announces that night at dinner: "me and will are twins now." and instead of trying to explain that's just... not how it works, the byers' are all like: "yeah, okay. cool."

it does, however, confuse the party and hopper when the byers' move back to hawkins. because suddenly el is looping her arm with will's and claiming 'twin telepathy' or that she gets dibs on will with any team based game because 'we are twins, you are not allowed to seperate us.'

(will loves it too. acts like it's always been this way, looking at their friends with fake confusion and asking: what? how did you forget about me having a whole twin sister? gosh, guys, do you really pay attention to us that little? you move away for one year and suddenly people forget such basic info about you... meanwhile el just nods along and tells them off as well.)

The first time I heard Castles Crumbling I immediately thought of “King Steve” and Steve’s quiet identity crisis. Steve has undergone this simultaneously tragic and liberating fall from grace. He constantly wants to show people that he’s good and valuable despite him not claiming the title he once had. He’s burned bridges with Tommy and Carol and everyone from the part of his life he’s no longer proud of. While personally he may be fulfilled with his new life he is aware that he is perceived as a failure. He had the entire world gift wrapped for him and still found a way to tear it all down.

Nancy Wheeler & Jonathan Byers - Mine

"Do you remember, we were sittin' there by the water? You put your arm around me for the first time You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter You are the best thing that's ever been mine

Flash forward, and we're takin' on the world together And there's a drawer of my things at your place You learn my secrets and you figure out why I'm guarded You say we'll never make my parents' mistakes"

Mine is their song! It’s Nancy and Jonathan at their best. Especially in the early seasons both of them are very emotionally guarded but learn to open up to each other. In season 1 they both talk about not wanting to become their parents, wanting to stop the cycle of resentment and conventionality. Their relationship is almost defined by hardship, growing more intimate and personal the more they take on together. In their relationship it's them against the world especially because they are an unconventional pairing. This song can be read as two sided but I primarily see it from Lucas’ perspective, particularly in the time of his and Max’s breakup. This song is about being crushed by the sudden end of relationship while still having allegiance to the person that left. Lucas is very compassionate and still worried about Max ever after their breakup. He didn’t care if she ever was with him again, only that she was safe and happy again. On Max’s side it crushes her to keep the distance between them and she’s haunted by the memories of their love and the sheer fact that Lucas is a good person who still loves her. They both wonder how much of the others life they missed and if things could’ve been different.

Nancy Wheeler & Steve Harrington - Back to December

"So this is me swallowin' my pride Standin' in front of you sayin' I'm sorry for that night And I go back to December all the time It turns out freedom ain't nothin' but missin' you Wishin' I'd realized what I had when you were mine I'd go back to December, turn around and make it alright I go back to December all the time"

While I am not a fan of the weird Stancy revival plot in season 4, this song really captures Steve's feelings towards Nancy. He deeply regrets the person he was when they were together and tells her that he didn't know what he had when he had it. She fundamentally changed him (which is why we should ALL be thanking Nancy for creating the Steve we know and love), and Steve wishes he could redo their relationship. The last line could also reflect Nancy's potential guilt about the way their relationship ended and her inability to reciprocate Steve's love because of her trauma and Barb's death. Also "I'm sorry for that night" is the night of the Halloween party. I don't make the rules. (Also Also Steve and Nancy dated for A YEAR that is so unfathomable to me :I)

El Hopper & Mike Wheeler & Will Byers - Superman

Superman can be interpreted from three different perspectives. Mike to El, El to Mike, and Will to Mike. In season 4 Mike reaffirms his love for El by saying that she is his superhero. Her strength is the thing that he admires most about her and he is constantly in awe at her power. The line “I’ve loved you from the very first day” parallels Mike saying that he loved her from the moment he saw her. He even voices his insecurities about her leaving him behind once she realizes that he’s not anything special.

El has the complete opposite perspective, seeing herself as the unworthy one. Because Mike is the first person who ever extended kindness to El, she believes that he is the best person alive and is incredibly lucky to have him. El and Mike see the other as their Superman.

From Will’s perspective Mike is his Superman. He is the leader, the heart, the paladin, and the great hero. He idolizes Mike in way which is why is rejection hurts so much. He wishes the cards were from Mike. That Mike knew how much Will reveres him. In his case, “I’ve loved you from the very first day” could be about the first day he and Mike met in kindergarten.

Will Byers & Mike Wheeler - Foolish One

The accuracy of this one hurts. I think the lyrics are self explanatory but the song reflects the anguish Will feels over Mike’s friendship and love slipping away.

Joyce Byers & Jim Hopper - Timeless

"I would've read your love letters every single night And prayed to God you'd be comin' home all right And you would've been fine We would have been timeless 'Cause I believe that we were supposed to find this So, even in a different life, you still would've been mine We would've been timeless"

"In a crowded room a few short years ago And sometimes there's no proof, you just know You're always gonna be mine We're gonna be I'm gonna love you when our hair is turnin' gray We'll have a cardboard box of photos of the life we've madeAnd you'll say, 'Oh my, we really were timeless'"

Timeless is an affirmation that no matter how many times they are separated and torn apart, Joyce and Hopper will find each other. It's also about them wanting to stop dealing with interdimensional threats to their families and have a normal life together and live to see the other get old.
