Pitch for the third installment in the Until Dawn/The Quarry trilogy:
1) The title: META
(reason: double entendre since the game is a meta-take on horror gaming and a reference to the Metaverse)
2) The plot
In 1984, a mysterious serial killer known as The Gravedigger murders a sibling pair who were on their way to visit family.
In the present day, a group of people vacationing in the same spot as the Gravedigger murders realize they’re being stalked. But as the night goes on, the vacationers realize there’s something else to fear aside from the killer. Something…supernatural-
Wait…why does this feel familiar? Isn’t this the same plot as Until Dawn? Also, this doesn’t feel too different from The Quarry. Something feels wrong with this set-up…
As the game goes on, the main characters start to feel that there’s something off about their world. They feel like they’re just following a script and that they have no control over their actions. That’s when we get the big reveal; they’re trapped inside a virtual world that was developed by Supermassive Games. In reality, the main characters are gamers who were brought in by Supermassive to test a new virtual reality game. However, a rogue programmer hacked the game, resulting in the gamers losing their memories, being stripped of their free will, and becoming trapped inside.
You, the player(s), are an actual character in the story. You’re a Supermassive employee trying to save the gamers by playing the rogue programmer’s script and making choices for the helpless gamers. It’s up to you to stop the rogue programmer, who is making the virtual world more and more nightmarish as the story goes on.
So, while chapters 1-6 play out like a typical Supermassive game, chapters 7-10 become more of a surreal nightmare due to the rogue programmer fighting back against the player.
3) Inspirations (to get a feel for how I imagined the game would turn out):
The Backrooms, The Cell, Doki Doki Literature Club, Harvester, Don’t Worry Darling, WandaVision, Too Many Cooks, Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, Danganronpa V3, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch
Sword Art Online and The Matrix, for non-horror inspirations
Squid Game, sorta kinda. It’s mainly the concept of this evil overseer watching over these people who are being forced to take part in the overseer’s game.
4) The main playable cast:
* Sean Parker (INTOLERANT, ARROGANT, CONFIDENT): A men’s rights activist/Andrew Tate-type gamer. He is played by Gregg Sulkin.
* Kim Myung-seok (BRAVE, RATIONAL, STOIC): An esports player from South Korea. He is played by Wi Ha-joon.
* Sameer Patel (INSECURE, RELAXED, DEFENSIVE): A gaming journalist from the United Kingdom. He is played by Dev Patel.
* Luis Santos (FOOLHARDY, CHARMING, BRASH): A gamer from Los Angeles and Melissa’s love interest. He is played by Anthony Ramos.
* Melissa Ramirez (AMBITIOUS, ADVENTUROUS, SELFISH): A gamer from Texas and Luis’ love interest. She is played by Leslie Grace.
* Donna Smith (COMMANDING, KIND, ADAPTABLE): A gamer who becomes the de facto leader of the group. She is played by Zazie Beetz.
* June Greene (REBELLIOUS, DETERMINED, WITTY): An e-girl streamer who is the first to realize something is off about the world. She is played by Erin Kellyman.
* Katrina Mason (NAIVE, ANTI-SOCIAL, FEARFUL): A NEET-type gamer who reluctantly joins the group. She is played by Kaitlyn Dever.
(Romance paths: Luis x Melissa, June x Katrina, Donna can choose between Myung-seok and Sameer. Sean is the only one without a romance path, for obvious reasons.)
5) Other characters:
* The Player, a gender-neutral Supermassive employee who, from the real world, is guiding the characters to safety (or getting them killed).
* Dante Connors: The rogue programmer responsible for trapping the gamers. He is the main villain of the game. Dante is played by David Tennant.
* The CEO of Supermassive, who fulfills the same role as the Curator, the Therapist, and Eliza Vorez. To make this as meta as possible, he is played by the actual CEO of the company.

Who is the voice of the female Deputy?
When I saw this question, I decided to try to find an answer.
I looked up all the actors listed in the credits, listened to their voices (in interviews, demo reels, or other videos), and… I’m still not sure who played the female Deputy.
While I usually find it relatively easy to recognize voice actors in French, my native language, it turns out that’s much harder for me to do in English. Also, it doesn’t help that they’re usually very good at changing their voice/accent and that, in real life, most of them don’t sound like the characters they play.
I still believe the person who played the female Deputy is also “Cult Follower Female 5” (CFF5), but it seems to me the actor used a different accent and tone so the cultist sounds a bit “villainous”. In any case, I didn’t find anyone that sounded exactly like the two characters…
According to my ears, though, the female Deputy and the female Captain from New Dawn have the same voice. Outside of cutscenes, the Deputy has 314 lines in Far Cry 5 (which you can listen to here, here, here, here, and here) and the audio files were all reused for the Captain. In cutscenes, so the “lines” that were specifically recorded for New Dawn, the character sounds exactly the same to me, which means the voice actor must have worked on both games.
I looked at the names that appeared in the credits of the two games and narrowed the list down to the 15 (+1; see below) likeliest candidates, so here are the people who, in my opinion, could potentially be the voice of the female Deputy, as well as, when the information was available, either in the game or on IMDb, which character(s) they played:
Claire Armstrong
Kailea Banka
Carolina Bartczak (Cult Follower in FC5; apparently not in FCND, but you never know)
Kimberly D. Brooks (Gun for Hire)
Nicki Burke (Cult Follower in FC5, Selene in FCND)
Lucinda Davis
Stacey DePass (Nana in FCND)
Amber Goldfarb (voice of Faith’s Priestesses, “Cult Follower Female 3”, and, I believe, Rae-Rae)*
Julianne Jain
Mara Junot (Sherri Woodhouse, “Civilian Female 6”)
Helen King
Erica Linbeck (voice of Anne, but also this and this)
Cynthia Kaye McWilliams (Resistance Soldier)
Debra Wilson
Kim Yarborough
Mayko Nguyen, who plays Kim Rye, was credited a second time as a “voice talent” in Far Cry 5, which implies she may have also played one of several NPC. Since she worked on New Dawn, she too could be the female Deputy’s voice.
Again, English isn’t my first language, and after spending two days listening to all those voices, everyone started to sound the same to me :’) If you’re a native English speaker and/or have a great ear, though, maybe you’ll be able to more easily solve the mystery! We can do it!
*IMDb says Amber Goldfarb played “Noodle’s owner” (the woman who called Ms. Mable for her pet snake) but the files tell me the voice is actually “Civilian Female 6”, so Mara Junot.
And under the cut, just in case, I included all the other female voices who appear in the credits.
FAR CRY 5
MAIN CAST Beryl Bain (Tracey Lader) Sarah Booth (Tammy Barnes and, according to IMDb, a “Civilian”) Luisa D’Oliveira (Deputy Joey Hudson) Jenessa Grant (Faith Seed) Debra McGrath (Nancy) Tasya Teles (Mary May Fairgrave)
VOICE TALENTS Carolina Bartczak (Cult Follower) Lauren Jackson (Skylar Kohrs) Erin Mathews Julie Nathanson (Jess Black) Kristen Peace Murry Peeters (Grace Armstrong) Claire Rankin Cara Ricketts (Dr. Sarah Perkins in FC5, Mickey in FCND) Charlotte Rogers Paula Shaw (Ms. Wilhelmina Mable) Jane Wheeler (Adelaide Drubman)
PERFORMERS (I’m not sure they recorded voices and they apparently didn’t work on FCND) Michela Cannon Roanna Cochrane (Cult Follower) Athena Karkanis Karen Knox Janet Porter Melissa Robertson Alyssa Trask Brandi Marie Ward
FAR CRY NEW DAWN
MAIN CAST Reina Hardesty (Carmina Rye) Leslie Miller (Lou)
VOICE TALENTS Rylee Alazraqui Mary Faber (in the “Additional Thanks” section in the FC5 credits and in Lost on Mars according to IMDb) Camryn Jones Rachel Kimsey Melanie Minichino (Gina Guerra) Carolyn Ratteray Marisha Ray Nadia Verrucci
PERFORMANCE CAPTURE PERFORMERS (again, I don’t know if they recorded voices in FCND) Ava Augustin Tamara Brown Jenny Raven Ajanae Stephenson Lydia Zadel (also credited in the “Additional Thanks” section in FC5 and a voice in Lost on Mars according to IMDb)
Good luck!

Endless Passion - A Sandman Fan Fiction
I. White Noise
Synopsis: A young sleep psychologist has made it her life's duty to rid victims of chronic nightmares of their demons forever. And if it means finding supernatural artifacts to complete her life's devotion, so be it. Reality-altering power in the hands of a mortal... What could possibly go wrong?
Tumblr media
An elder patient rested in a dark room in nothing but a backless hospital gown, waiting upright in a chamber of salted water, warmed slightly to her preference. White noise filled the space, soothing tension in her shoulders and stiffened neck. Nurses prepared her, sticking small probes to her temples. But she was numbed to the sensation. All she could focus on was her fatigue. Nights were terrors. She spent her lifetime taking stimulants to block them. Nightmares plagued her thoughts, nothing an herbal remedy could repair. But only one was her last hope.
A voice broke over the floor’s intercom.
“Erin?” a gentle voice called over the intercom,  “Erin, can you hear me?”
The elderly woman nodded slowly, as the nurse stuck a final probe to her temple. A nurse handed her a microphone.
“Yes, Dr. Kanaka, I hear you.” She said, her voice frail, cataract tainted eyes trailing over to the one way window, where she saw her reflection, and not who stood inside.
On the other end of the tinted glass, the owner of such a tender voice, was that very psychologist. The young woman smiled, nodding in reassurance as if her patient could see her. Dr. Kanaka’s dark curls were pulled back in a chignon, soft tendrils falling loose and framing her rounded face. Small flicks of liner graced her doe eyes. Her rosebud lips pursed softly as she spoke into the microphone again. Her fresh face contrasted fatigue that often came with nightfall, a drop of sun in the dreary observation room.
“Okay, Erin.” She said, “Now, remember what I said to you yesterday?”
“No, not really.” Erin replied, “I’m sorry.”
The sleep psychologist working with Dr. Kanaka heaved a sigh next to her behind the observation booth, pinching her nose.
“No, that was a bad question.” she chuckled, “Just try and relax for us. I know it’s a little odd sleeping in this water, but we’re just trying to study how your brain works when you’re sleeping, okay?”
“I’m sorry if I scream.” Erin said sheepishly, “It gets rather frightening, but the warm water will help.”
“I know it does.” Dr. Kanaka reassured, “That’s why Dr. Mapu and I are here. We’re here to help.”
Dr. Mapu reassured Dr. Kanaka with a glance, despite the doubt behind her eyes.
“It’s time, Sabine.” She uttered. To some, the doctor could come off brash, but it was just her tone. Sabine knew Quinn well to know she wasn’t crass to the old woman’s case.
“You can rest, Erin.” Sabine said as the nurses left the room, dimming the lights to a gentle amber. Camera footage flickered in the screens before them, focusing on both her brain and body. Erin’s wrinkled eyelids fell shut almost immediately as she laid back in the salted water.
Sabine flicked off the microphone with a painted red nail, scratching the neck of her turtleneck.
“Well, here we go.” Quinn sucked a breath, her notes at the ready, “For someone who struggles to sleep, she sure doesn’t have a problem now.”
“She’s been awake for three days.” Sabine replied dryly, studying her patient’s face, “They’re getting worse. It doesn’t make any sense. No brain tumors, no history of dementia or alzheimer's. The trauma we flushed out. But the terrors she describes….”
Quinn’s eyes scrunched into a scowl as she read Erin’s file cover to cover. She shook her head.
“I mean, the depression was terrible obviously. Generational trauma, war, inflation, divorce, miscarriages. We flushed out everything and now we’re onto this occult-”
Sabine hushed Quinn as the nurses entered, waiting on standby in case Erin suffered from a heart attack.
“Hello, ladies.” She said, “Oh, and Karl.”
Karl waved in the back, all watching Erin.
Quinn bit back a laugh as Sabine leaned in, jaw tight.
“It is not occult shit.” She argued while mocking her tone, “It’s an ancient text I saw. About helping someone get rid of bad nightmares. And I think it can work.”
“That fuckass dreamstone you were talking about?” Quinn remarked, “What, like you went through a mountain on some sort of adventure to find it?”
Sabine paused for a moment. She looked down in her lap, taking a breath.
“It’s going to be a long night.” Sabine muttered to herself.
Quinn ceased to speak, looking at her partner as if she lost her mind. And maybe she was correct. Sabine had been chasing the origins of the dreamstone ever since hearing its origins, making dreams into a reality through manifestation. She slipped into the pocket of her coat, thumbing the icy surface of the crimson gemstone, glowing warm in her hand. Her finger nearly pricked the edges of its golden casing.  Her focus was only on her patient.
Ninety minutes passed in silence and occasional small talk, note taking of the brain waves until she descended into R.E.M. Quinn queued in, pointing a pencil to the scanner, Erin’s brain swept in vibrant shades of blue and green.
“She’s doing so good so far.” Sabine observed, “For now, at least. It’s never the first ninety minutes. It;s what happened after.”
Erin twitched, her brows knitting in concern. This was her cue.
“Here we go.” Quinn nodded, “Now what?”
Sabine remembered everything Erin told her- growing up on a farm in Indiana, Sunday dinners and holding hands in prayer. Being carried over the threshold of her first home by her husband. Imagining a world where war never touched her home, where she could see her cats all over again, where she could see her son not be lost to Desert Storm, and her family was together again. The beauty of these dreams. She also remembered what got her through nightmares. Her father’s voice singing her to sleep as a sick child. Holding a crusty cat in her lap and watching television at night. Journal pages to fill it. Reassurance from a kind face to listen instead of calling her crazy.  Hands holding each other as she got bloodwork done. A kind smile from a doctor with good intentions. The power was overwhelming, the rush filling her with a state of euphoria- and yet, the power felt natural, as if she spent her entire life missing something, the ruby returning in her hands. A ripple simmered through her core. She watched in delight as Erin seemed to relax.
“It worked.” Sabine said under her breath, “Quinn! Guys! Look over-”
Everyone was asleep. Quinn flopped back, her mouth wide open in a low snore. Which was an unusual side effect of the ruby. Sabine noticed this when she first tested it in her apartment- the entire building barely stumbled out of bed by the time she came home from work that following morning. The intention wasn’t as bold then. She hoped to god someone didn’t crash in their car from falling asleep.
This was the second patient whom she helped. The first was her sister, without her knowing, who suffered from nightmares and darkness that she would carry to her grave. Now she marveled at Erin, who seemed to relax her entire face into a warm smile. Sabine leaned into the mic, focusing on the ruby.
“Let the light outshine the darkness. You are safe. You are loved. Your brain is in survival mode and you deserve to remember the light.”
Nine hours passed and her brain was at normal levels once more, in comparison to three months prior after suffering from a heart attack out of fear, the difference was night and day. Erin commended her, as well as her second son, who was fatigued but just as grateful.
As Sabine and Quinn exited the sleep center, Sabine found herself yawning, rubbing her eye and forgetting that the eyeliner on the corner existed. She cursed herself.
“Well, you wanna get breakfast?” Quinn offered, squinting her eyes. Both women were tall, but Quinn was tall enough to block the sun, even for a moment.
“I wish.” Sabine sighed, “But I have more notes to make. I think we can adjust the strategy we used today-”
“Girl, be serious.” Quinn put her hands on her hips and stopped her in the parking lot, “Sabine, I have to ask. Are you okay?”
Sabine scowled, “Uh, yeah, why?”
Quinn arched her brow, “You’re throwing yourself into your work. You barely answer my invites to hang outs… You’re obsessed with this whole art, which is fine but like… Is that all?”
“I have to.” Sabine argued, huffing, “People need my help. I found this amazing thing and… I need to reach more people. This could help so many people get rid of their nightmares. Heal them entirely. And have them sleep better from now on. I’ve seen so many patients struggling to find peace at night and I can’t either until we give them the last few years of their life mercy.”
Quinn nodded, her gaze softening, “I’m worried about you, sis. Are you sure it isn’t-”
“No.” Sabine quipped, “It’s not about my grandma, it’s not about my book being rejected  to be published. And it sure as hell isn’t about Alex.”
Quinn sucked her teeth, “I’m just saying you’ve been a little too preoccupied. You do this. You don’t want to face what’s head on and focus-”
“If I wanted to be evaluated I’d make an appointment.” Sabine snapped, side eyeing her work best friend. But the insult fell flat, her voice too vulnerable to the jab. A creeping sensation fell over her left shoulder. She checked then, wondering if someone was watching. With the dreamstone in her possession, who knows what coud;’ve pursued her? Quinn snickered, her laugh making Sabine want to laugh even though she was pissed.
“God damn.” She laughed, “Maybe while you’re dreaming, you can find that lanky little white boy in all black you mentioned months ago.”
“He was just a pretty face.” Sabine rolled her eyes, smiling, “I’ve seen that face at one point in real life, which is why I dreamt it. It didn’t happen suddenly. Probably just some residue from all the fantasy novels I read in high school and wouldn't shut up to you about.”
“Whatever it takes bestie, because you need a nap.” Quinn remarked, “Allright, nerd, I’m heading to brunch. You go take your nap, and call me when you wake up. We’re going for drinks.”
“But Quinn, I-”
“I don’t want to hear it!” Quinn said, “You are twenty-five years old. You never do anything for yourself. You've dedicated a quarter of your life to this project, more than I ever could with my left fucking hand. You need a break! Now go and get your juice bottle, get your weighted blanket, and rest. You need it.”
Sabine gave in and sighed, “Fine.”
“Atta girl.” Quinn unlocked her car, “Let me know if you see Dreamboat again. And ask if he’s got a hot sibling.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah.” Sabine shook her head, “If I can get a word in.”
As both friends parted ways, Sabine’s mood dropped- the sensation of being watched crawled up her shoulders and spine, knotting tension into them. She looked to find its source. A man stood across the street, his figure soon disappearing into a crowd of faces. Before blinking, there were two things she remembered. She was overthinking it again. He was gone in an instant.
In silence, she returned to the comforting monotony of her apartment, curled up beneath blankets with her tuxedo cat. As she stared at the floor to ceiling shelves of dream journals before her, her thoughts rummaged back to the parking lot. She recalled the figure. He was a strange man with straw blonde hair and rounded glasses was standing at the edge of the street across from them. She had remarked in her head the sad beige phenomenon memes posted about, recalling his suit. The chummy, customer service smile glued onto his face. Something wasn’t right. Maybe he was new. Or drunk. Or just odd. She shrugged off the sensation of being watched, returning to sleep again, hoping to discover something new in the world of her dreams.
However, something wasn’t right. She was waiting for a sense of awe to come over, after doing what she always hoped- to relieve those suffering from nightmares to be healed. And yet, something shifted inside her. Kalea, her sister, should be at school. She hadn’t had a text from her all day. She quickly got up from her bed, hurrying to the bedroom across the hall, leaving the little cat to be the dreamstone guardian.
The door creaked open loudly, a dim shade of light washing over the edge of Kalea’s floral bed sheets. There her sister laid, in the same position as she did the night before, when Sabine used the dreamstone, frozen in content sleep. Sabine furrowed her brows.
“Kalea?” she called in a soft voice, “Kalea, don’t you have an exam today?”
The nineteen year old did not respond. Her eyes fluttered, her long hair laying over the pillow in black ribbons. Sabine sat beside her sleeping sister and rubbed her arm.
“Sis, don’t mess with me right now.” Sabine remarked, “Come on. Are you that tired?”
Even as a child, Kalea pretended to be asleep to sneak out of chores and school. Sabine huffed, assuming that it was just that. Maybe the night terror from before was so exhausting, she had tuckered herself out.
“Fine.” Sabine mused, “It’s your grade anyway. I’ll see you later.”
Sabine failed to notice the way the dreamstone glowed a searing red beneath her own bedroom door. Her cat scrambled out from the cracked doorway. It was calling to someone- or something beyond anyone's understanding.

Thursday
Erin had not left her side since last night, holding her throughout her breakdown. He fed her dinner and tried to distract her with a game of charades and a story about his crazy pet iguana from when he was a kid. However, it couldn’t lift her spirits. He finally sat on her bed rubbing her back as she exhausted herself to sleep.
Careful not to disturb Erin sleeping next to her, she got up quietly. The soft sunrise light filtered through her room from the open window and her vision cleared, watching as the day started.
Another day without Dhruv.
She walked to the window and gazed at the sky slowly lighting up. She thanked any god who graced her with the strength to finally escape from the hell she was living in.
2018
November was the month of weddings in the bustling city of Kolkata, and her parents dragged her away to every wedding in her family and neighborhood to introduce their daughter, Dr Bagchi, a professor at NYU.
Nisha stood quietly in a corner hiding away from an entire group of middle-aged women staring her down with a scowl on.
The aunties gossiped about her being almost thirty and unmarried.
“They are not talking about you by the way.” She looked at the source and saw a man standing next to her.
Wearing a black kurta, matching his eyes, he sipped a cup of tea as he smiled at her, “I’m thirty-two, and I rejected the fourth girl in a row… who just so happens to be Rina auntie’s niece.” He points at a woman in the crowd wearing an extravagant lehenga, drowning in jewels.
“Wait,” Nisha sniffles a laugh, “she’s the bride’s mother.”
“…and I refused to marry the bride’s cousin.” He grimaced, looking at his chai in defeat.
“Well, you’re out of the radar for now, Rina auntie’s about to trash mouth you to every girl’s mother.”
"Oh, Prabhu Dhanyabad!" Oh, God thank you! He sighed of relief.
Nisha threw her head back in laughter and had to hold back as she attracted the eyes of every elder around her.
“Do you always laugh so loud at the misfortune of others?” he asked.
She raised her eyebrows. “Do you always reject young women and their mothers?”
The man looked at her as he took a long sip of chai, “Only when they are after my money.”
“What are you? Like a landlord or something?” Nisha scoffed.
“Or something.” He smirked, looking at her right in her eyes. The intensity of black in his eyes took her aback. They made her uncomfortable but intimidated her enough to stare back. They were hypnotic, like a whirlpool of secrets.
That should have been the first sign.
“Dhruv Maheshwari.” He extended his hand, flashing a smile.
“Nisha Bagchi.”
--/-/-/-
Dhruv Maheshwari had a pharmaceutical company in Manhattan, and his family came from old money.
Dhruv had a habit of owning anything he wanted. Be it buildings, land, paintings, you name it. Nisha cursed herself later for years for not noticing what he wanted from the start.
Her.
He wanted to own her.
Since their first date, he has tried to show her his money in any shape and form. He took her to the finest restaurants and bought her dresses and shoes a bit too flashy for her style. When she refused to accept the gifts, he would go silent for days, until Nisha agreed to accept them.
She thought after Bradley, after loving someone from one side, she was on the other side, receiving it.
She was blinded by love, enamored by his dark eyes and his addicting touch on her skin. However, he was not the fresh breeze of summer she craved ever since Virginia.
He was a pit of quicksand, slowly engulfing her entire existence to fit his vision of her.
Her mind begged her to see some sense after meeting her parents for the first time. His mother commented on her job and body countless times, and Dhruv laughed.
His parents met hers and fixed a wedding date without her knowledge.
Her birthday that year turned into a surprise engagement party with all her relatives and friends.
Every time she complained, he would hold her face in his hands, wiping tears away from her eyes. He would say, “I do this because I love you, Nisha. I love you so much and you don’t see it.” His dark eyes bore into hers as a storm engulfed the sea, and no matter how many times she tried to accept them back, to get used to them, she never could.
Her last straw was a party thrown by Dhruv’s father in honour of his only son, who then proceeded to demean Nisha’s parents and call her job a ‘fool’s dream’. His mother then threatened her to quit her job and marry Dhruv.
All the while Dhruv sat in his seat and held Nisha’s hand in a death grip, telling her not to overreact.
That night, she told him she would leave him if he told her to quit her job. It was her dream, the result of her blood, sweat and tears. Dhruv opened the main door of his penthouse and stood as Nisha left his doorstep in tears, never to return.
He didn’t call her, called off the wedding, and his parents badmouthed her family any chance they got. This was so much so that Nisha was actually glad her parents no longer lived in New York.
He sent back her things by mail, and two months later a wedding invitation to his wedding with the same girl he rejected two years ago.
Nisha had been gathering up the pieces of her shattered heart ever since that, changing colleges, dating nobody, and as much as she tries to deny it… drinking. As much as she could actually. Nobody knew about this, not even her parents. The reason she never came to The Hard Deck even after being invited so many times by Eric, was because she couldn’t stand the alcohol stench.
-/-/-/-/-/-
Bradley’s alarm startled him. His eyes shifted straight to the open window of Penny’s living room. He watched the early sunrise from the ocean.
Nisha’s face was the only thing he saw the entire night. No matter how hard he tried to sleep, he couldn’t forget how pain resonated from every inch of her face.
He recalled how he would cry harder whenever he saw her cry. He would try his wits not to, and the second he heard her sob, he couldn’t control the tears falling down his eyes.
Involuntarily his mind turned to a conversation he had with Nisha. He took a deep breath as he tried not to remember, but that memory flooded his eyes when he closed them in exhaustion.
/-/-/-/-
2001
It’s been 2 months since Carol passed away peacefully in her sleep. Bradley had cried only twice, once at the hospital after the doctors broke the news, and once when they lowered her casket.
After that, Bradley talked about everything but her. Maverick’s flat became his bed, and Nisha’s house into his Study Room. When she suggested going back to his place to study, he got up abruptly and left without a word.
He could not return to the house. Everywhere he looked, he could see his mother. Her essence was in every house fragment.
Nisha was careful around him. He was silently healing, and there was very little she could do. His good-for-nothing girlfriend left for vacation after the funeral and refused to call him.
“Can you be there?” He told her while stuffing fries in his mouth, sitting in Nisha's room after a study session.
He bought it out of nowhere. He felt Nisha freeze when he said that. After 6 months of training, the air force holds a tap-out ceremony where families congratulate the new recruits.
“Maverick, Uncle Ice, and Uncle Slider will be with the officials. I don’t have any other person to –”
“Sunny,” Nisha squeezed his hand, “of course I’ll be there” she smiled.
“Really?” He looked at her with hopeful eyes, almost as if he expected her to say no.
“How else will I get a party from you? I know you won’t give it willingly.” She laughed.
“Hey!” He throws a fry at her and she gets up, pulling his cheeks and dodging another fry thrown at her.
He was the last to be tapped out at the ceremony, by Phoenix’s family. He tried his best to keep his emotions at bay the entire evening but broke down remembering Nisha in his dorm room.
Bradley left to become a better person, and he was damn proud of becoming what he is today. However, he left without a goodbye. When he stopped drowning in grief and anger, he realized how wrong he had been all those years ago. He wanted to return to Nisha, the only true friend from his childhood.
But he couldn’t.
Why would she wait for him? He was some boy from her childhood who she trusted wholeheartedly, someone who didn't give her a second thought before leaving.
But he thought of her, after fighting with Mav, after boarding his flight to the Academy, after moving into his dorm room, after flying a jet for the first time.
He wanted to tell her everything, he longed for her while having awkward first conversations with new friends. As he ate in the mess provided by the navy, he craved her homemade food, her company after a long day at work, to tell her what was going on in his head since she understood.
He was too ashamed to return to Nisha.
And now he lost her.
Again.
“Are you done wallowing in grief like an adolescent?" Bradley frowned, following the voice as Amelia stood next to the couch. “I could play my Taylor Swift album to set the mood for you?” she huffed out.
“Amelie, not now please,” Bradley grumbled as he got up.
Amelia looked at him. His usual upbeat demeanor was forgotten. He looked sad and tired. It was so unlike him; he was a literal ray of sunshine.
"Bradshaw?" she asked before he left the room.
He replies, expecting a quick jab at his state.
“I have a friend in high school, Elsie. She has been best friends with Amira forever. They did everything together; nobody has seen them without each other. Anyone could see they were in love with each other, except them. Elsie, to be specific.”
Bradley turned to her, intrigued by the story.
“The day Elsie announced she would move to Canada for further studies, I caught Amira crying in the bathroom stall. She loved her so damn much, it hurt her so much, but she still loved her unconditionally. And before Elsie left, she realized she loved her too, but it was too late.”
“Why are you telling me this?” he asked.
“I’m just saying, sometimes you don’t see things right in front of you until it’s too late.” Amelia pats him on the back and leaves for the kitchen. “I’ll make breakfast, get ready, okay?" she smiles at him and gets to work.
Bradley couldn’t help but smile at this 16-something little girl. She had herself suffered through so much and still saw the light at the end of the tunnel.
He needed to have a talk with Nisha, soon.

Rebjukebox 2024 - No. 3
My third playlist of new music from mainly new bands and new artists, with a couple of well known acts thrown in for good luck!! But the tracks are new music from 2024. It's mixed genres of music from many different countries. Makes no difference, where the tracks appear in the playlist, they are all good.
I feel 40 is good number of tracks not too long or too short in listening time for your enjoyment. The whole playlist is only two hours and fifteen minutes long.
I used to do these just through Soundcloud, but thought i might as well add it to my Spotify also. So i will add two links to the playlist and can use which ever one you prefer.
If your a solo singer or a member of a band, then follow me on my Soundcloud page here, if i like your stuff, i will follow you back, if i don’t follow back then sorry but your not my thing. Whatever style of music is fine, i like many stlyes and will take a listen. You should always trust your own ears with music.
You can only follow 2,000 people on Soundcloud, so am limited. But if am following you there, i can see when you share new music, which means you could be added to one of these playlists or the main JIR playlist (one per month). What style of music is fine, i like many and will take a listen.
Enjoy & share, hopefully you will discover some great new bands from taking a listen, stay free, see you soon with No 4.

Achilles Castle part 56
Kate: pov the boys dropped me off at home afterwards, Castle is still up in his room writing he asks if I had a good time, I mention Greg was kinda being an ass but other than that it was okay. A waiter dropped a stack of plates and I flinched. I'm so tired, after helping Castle into bed I climb in and get comfortable. The boys ended up giving Greg the black licorice.
Kate: pov Oh crap i forgot i have a pulmonary check up with my lung Dr tomorrow. In the morning I shower and get dressed. I'm wearing a Gray t-shirt and black pants. I take my pills and grab some pre-made oatmeal from the fridge and quickly eat it. My appointment isn't until my lunch break, Castle Is still sleeping.
Ryan: pov I quietly get out of bed and get ready for work Jenny is very hormonal and wants to shower with me, I agree since it's early. While she gets herself and Sarah Grace ready for the day I quickly make a breakfast burrito type thing which tastes amazing.
Esposito: pov Lanie's phone is ringing. She has a dead body, we quickly shower together and get dressed before we leave. The both of us have a bagel and orange juice. Last night was amazing. I had no idea Lanie could do that stuff with her hands.
Kate: pov Lanie got a dead body this morning possible suicide, the boys are helping her by looking into the guys life since the family wants answers. I'm doing paperwork and making phone calls. On the way to my appointment I pick, up a smoothie. As I'm singing in at the Dr's office the receptionist mentions that my Dr is out sick and I have a fill in Dr. In the waiting room, which is packed, a little boy comes up to me and asks if I have asthma too. Actually, I don't. Something bad happened to me and my lung collapsed which means it wasn't working right so i'm here for a check up. The kid goes back to what he is watching on his device and the mother says sorry about that, It's okay.
Tracy: pov if you don't mind me asking how did your lung collapse, Kate says I was shot in the heart/chest at my Captain's funeral bullet nicked my inferior pulmonary vein and ventricle. I went into cardiac arrest 2 twice; I had a Tension pneumothorax on my left side requiring a chest tube to be inserted. She mentions they did an emergency thoracotomy on her, to gain access to the area. The trauma resulted in her going into vfib causing her to go into cardiac arrest during emergency surgery on her heart. They had to use the internal paddles and manual heart massages. Oh my, was there any lasting effects from your shooting. I know you probably have physical and emotional scars.
Kate: pov yes I have a heart condition and PTSD. Tracy tells me how her son was born with asthma. A few minutes later her name and mine is being called by 2 nurses. The nurse named Erin has me stand on the scale to be weighed, she then takes me to an exam room and checks my vitals and asks me how I've been feeling.
Erin: pov so Kate have you had an shortness of breath or trouble breathing while doing normal things or running, no okay that is great the Dr should be in shortly to check you over. You're also getting some tests done today.
Kate: pov a few minutes a young looking Dr walks in the room and introduces himself as Dr Fenton. He opens my folder so we can go over a few things. He says I understand from your medical records that you had some chest trauma in the past causing you to develop a heart condition, during your trauma you had a collapsed lung. Yes I was shot at my Captain's funeral. The bullet nicked my left inferior pulmonary vein causing Tension pneumothorax on the left side of my chest requiring a chest tube to be inserted. The Bullet also grazed my left ventricle causing me to bleed into my heart causing a cardiac tampon. They had to do an emergency thoracotomy on me, to gain access to the area and save my life. The trauma resulted in me going into ventricular fibrillation causing me to then go into cardiac arrest again during my emergency heart surgery. They had to use the internal paddles and manual heart massages to bring me back.
Dr Fenton: pov Kate i’m going to listen to your heart and lungs. Everything sounds good with your lungs, are you having any shortness of breath or other symptoms. No only when you have a heart episode or a PTSD episode. Okay that is fine, actually normal, we have to be careful because shortness of breath could be a severe side effect of your heart condition. Okay I'm going to need you to breathe into this so I can check your lung function. Everything seems okay with your lungs, how are you sleeping at night, not the best. Okay any trouble breathing at night, no. Okay that's good to hear, I want you to get a sleep study just to be on the safe side. Your weight is on the low side but not a big concern, since you have a lot of dietary restrictions. You're scheduled for an ultrasound of your left lung /pulmonary vein today.
Nurse Erin: pov if you come this way Kate I can take you to the room the technician is doing the ultrasound in. Shirt and bra come off, I can give you a gown to cover up with.
Kate: pov The technician is a guy named Lance. He is new here, the cold gel is squirted on my chest by Erin the nurse. Lance moves the wand over my lung and pulmonary vein. I have scar tissue from my shooting and my surgery. Next is the treadmill. I have to run on the treadmill for a few minutes while being monitored.
Nurse Erin: pov so far everything looks good with your lungs, Dr Fenton is looking over your ultrasound right now you should have the results in a few minutes.
Dr Fenton: pov back in the exam room I tell Kate her lungs look good, she has some scar tissue on her pulmonary vein which may need to be removed down the line. Do you need a refill on your inhaler? no, you're good. Okay see you in a few months. To be continued. …….

[I try l try! But here’s A Daddy’s Poem.]
Tumblr media
Anomia is the word for a mild form of aphasia in which the correct name of a thing doesn’t come. It is one of the effects that Sarah’s brain tumor is now having on her. “Oh, never mind,” she says, when the word doesn’t come. Other effects include the loss of motor skills in her right hand, a right foot that droops just enough to trip on something, and a smile like you have after getting Novocain.   F--- cancer, says a note she keeps on the refrigerator in her home.   She has danced with it, dodged it, studied it, and kept it in its place since she was 14, a beautiful life we’ve watched with joy and amazement. But now, as she comes on her 33rd birthday Nov. 11, the brain tumor has slipped its bounds. The various chemo treatments since early last year have run out. Her Emory neuro oncologist on Friday said he and colleagues see no more good treatments, but is willing to try a longshot immunotherapy. He also sent us to a “second opinion” neuro oncologist at Piedmont Hospital, who saw Sarah on Monday. Since talking to her, Dr. Erin Dunbar, and her social worker, Britany, we are all amazed, almost overwhelmed, with how much help has been rushing to us (palliative, PT/OT, talk therapist, resuming Avastin this Friday). One key was Dr. Dunbar getting clear that, in the balance between quality of life and cure-seeking, Sarah’s priority is quality of life. They’re not mutually exclusive, but it’s important to get the tilt right.   She’s already pulling up more words today, probably because of re-starting a med yesterday that reduces brain swelling, as Avastin will do better on Friday.   Meanwhile, she’s staying in the condo with us. It’s ADA compliant. She’d rather be at Tate, so we were there last weekend making it more accessible. Clay, with his woodworking skills (honed by a week practicing wood turning at the Campbell Folk School), cut and installed some beautiful hickory and poplar railings for the stairs. Tate will be the healing place (sunlight streaming through bacon smoke and log-fire smoke at breakfast Sunday morning). And Decatur will be for appointments. We always have hope, but we have also known that this time would come. The love, prayers and support from you all give us comfort. The beauty and grace of Sarah’s presence fills us with gratitude.

So as mentioned in my previous post about this bingo, my birthday is next month. And for that occasion I wanted to host another bingo! Like my last bingo in October 2021, this one will have moodboards to the squares. You don’t have to use them, but they’re there for inspiration, and can also be used in your fics as a “cover” if you’d like 🥰 I’m gonna have the moodboards up before the bingo starts on Monday 17th of January 😅
Tumblr media
here are some rules:
1. It’ll start on January 17th and ends on February 17th at Midnight (Norwegian time)
2. Write one, ten or all of the fics. But don’t feel like you have to write them, this is a fun little writing exercise
3. You can write a head canon, ficlet, multi-chapter (one moodboard/square per fic) or a one shot. But please, if it’s longer than 500 words, put it under read more.
4. The fics can be fluff, smut, angst, etc if you feel like they would fit with the aesthetic of the moodboard you write for. Please remember to tag the fics with the right warnings before posting it.
5. Tag me when you post it, so I can keep tracks of the fics that are posted for this challenge and use the hashtag: #adarafaelbarbabirthdaybingo
