Desc: Talkin’ bout Katsuki while you’re pregnant & when you have a daughter
No cause now all I can think about is katsuki with a daughter :( everyone Shutup I’m usually more immune to baby fever but oh god…. >:( katsuki needs to give me a baby girl
I can go into details and I will
Buys a giant wardrobe for her before she’s even born. Has custom made dynamight baby clothes made just for her.
Reads every parenting book known to man and has a binder of development notes!! This man has written down everything from how to cure baby gas to the best learning tools and methods for little ones
Makes freezer prep meals for when you’re post-partum and struggling ! Soup cubes, one pan sheet meals, instant pot dinners, the works. He makes frozen mandu (Korean dumplings) for an easy snack.
SLATHERS you in Shea butter and bio oil throughout your pregnancy, giving you rubs up and down all the time
Begins impulse buying childrens books and toys any time he steps into a store
Your home now has an entire room dedicated to the items he had either BUILT or BOUGHT for your child. Shelves are secured to the wall, filled with every book and pack of flash cards he’s purchased
Lays her down on his chest for quick naps with dragon tales on, humming to soothe her to avoid hics and sniffs from his beloved baby
Calls her “angel” for the longest time but here’s a list of other nicknames he uses: “squirt” , “shithead” , “princess” , “little spark”
Has the baby’s footprints stamped on thick cardstock for every two months she grows, until she hits a year. At a year he begins doing it every 6 months.
Starts teaching her to bake early on, all their favorite treats. They sit afterwards and eat to their hearts content until she inevitably knocks out on his chest watching Disney movies
Let’s her paint his nails as soon as she’s old enough. When she hits an age where it’s appropriate, they begin getting matching pedicures with you every month
Also post partum he spends time fixing you warm baths to soak in and love yourself in, while he holds the little one and makes dinner
Also also when you’re pregnant he literally has a brand new toilet installed to help you so you won’t need a peri bottle as much when you go to the bathroom :(((
Bathroom? Stocked with everything you can imagine. Tiny fridge for your padsicles? Check. Adult diapers? Check. Stool softener? Check. Baby wipes? Check! Anything you need, is stocked to the brim
Makes it mandatory that for the first 7 days of your little one’s life, only you and him will be around the baby. No visitors pressuring you, none of that. He plans the entire week in advance and tries to account for how tired you’ll be. The first thing he tells you to do when you get home is to get some sleep, and you do.
Calls his mom for help when you’re both a little too stressed and has her watch the baby in the play room so the two of you can have an hour nap
Takes you out to different attractions every week and/or has a “mommy day” planned each week to help lessen the chance of post partum depression
I just truly think he’d worship the ground yoj walked on and pave the way for her. He’d tell her how much he loves her every day. I bet he even puts a mild lavender lotion on her before she sleeps to help her rest and relax.
When she’s a newborn and going through the phase of refusing sleep, he gets you in bed and rocks her in the rocking chair until she’s asleep. He also demands the baby SHARE a room with you until she gets to at least 7-8 months. Baby cameras everywhere. Everything is baby proof. If you think it isn’t, it is.
When I die, The first thing I’m doing is having katsuki knock me up so we can live a happy life with a little one.

• at this point hes used to affection he's been friends with hizashi since they were kids
• so when you wrap his arms around him freshly dating or have been with each other for years he's not awkward about it as soon as he knows it you he'd put an arm around you giving you a soft hug
• as always he acts differently in the privacy of your shared home he always is being touchy with you as well from the fact he rarely gets to see you with his hectic schedule
• he enjoys cuddling somehow more now as an adult then as a teen probably stemming from him always working
• he enjoys you hitting on his lap with your head shoved into the crook of his neck hugging him tightly after a bad day
• from him being a busy teacher he decided on not children early on which you were fine with and then when he adopted eri he was so happy to see you accepted her directly in the family like she was your own daughter when cooking if he's home he likes to walk up behind you wrapping his arms around you and softly kissing your neck
• sometimes during weekend when he doesn't have to workyou have a lazy day watching Disney movies cuddling on the couch while eri plays with toys you got her
• when he gets home and gets changed into his home clothes he stretches out on top of you while you run your hands through his hair
• on particularly rough days with his job he like sits on top of your lap while you hold him close and he vents to you about what's going on
• now if you have a bad day and he notices he pulls you on top on him or closer to him and lets you vent to him all you need cause you would do it for him and he loves you
• calm lazy kisses around your face randomly and kisses around his face some
•he'd let you braid his hair randomly and do random things with it
•he still will carry around his s/o no matter how old he s as long as he's physically able to he would jut carry them around on either his back, over his shoulder or chicken game style

Is melida/daan canon? sometimes people argue about how the jedi should not have gone to war, and then I remember that whole story and the debate about whether qui-gon shouldve stayed and fought- and it's really quite fascinating.
Hi! So, it depends on what you mean by "canon", as Star Wars has several different continuities and what is "canon" in one will not be "canon" in another, despite that they're both officially put out by Star Wars. 1. George Lucas continuity: The first six movies and seasons 1-6 of The Clone Wars. Nothing else is canon to Lucas' Star Wars, he has explicitly said dozens of times that the books, comics, games, etc. are their own world, but they're not canon to his Star Wars. 2. Legends continuity: Any books, novels, games that you can reasonably expect to be taken seriously (ie, not LEGO Star Wars or a mini-Flash game or what have you) that's pre-April 25, 2014 is in this continuity, unless something post-this date has a disclaimer in the back that says it was based on Legends continuity but wasn't ready for publication until later, but still counts as the Legends continuity. This is where the Melida/Daan events fall. 3. Disney continuity: Once Disney bought Star Wars and started putting out their own shows (Rebels, season 7 of The Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, etc.) and movies (Rogue One, the sequel trilogy, Solo, etc.) and games and books and comics, they created a new continuity. This one is a bit tricky since they say it's all on a level playing field, but the truth is that the TV shows are higher "canon" than the books and games and such. (As a note: Fantasy Flight Games' reference books are generally not a source of canon material, they try to be canon-compliant, but the story group has said they're probably not to be trusted re: being hard canon.) So, to answer your question: It depends on the discussion you're having and what the agreed-upon continuity is. For me, while I dabble in all of the continuities, if I'm talking about the movies+TCW, then Melida/Daan is probably not canon. But if we're talking about the Lucasfilm era novels, then they are canon to that continuity and a lot of people occupy that space, that's the playground they're in, so those events are canon to them. And, honestly, it's hard for me to take those books 100% seriously, they were written when only one of the prequels movies was out, AOTC didn't even exist then, much less the expanding of the world that TCW did, as well as they were written to a very specific audience of young teens, who would want to read about other young teens being heroes, which means the adults basically had to get hit with the idiot stick and so I'm more interested in meeting them where they're at and what their aim was, in my view. They're great fun and people should go nuts with them if that's their jam, live your best fannish life! God knows, that's what I do on stuff I love! But they also occupy a very nebulous space on being "canon", because so much depends on what framework we're talking about!

hi am a 7th grader and I was wondering how you don't get embarrassed bc in my school they make fun of me for things I like like dt and you really encourage me to ignore those people and keep liking what I like
I know it's long, but I want EVERYONE to read this.
Okay, this REALLY hit home, because even though I am just recently entering college(I'm 19), I still feel this way at times. But you know what? It's okay.
At your age, other kids in your school or even a little older than you will probably tease you about this, but not for the reasons you'd think. I mean- what? DuckTales is an amazing animated show about a family that goes through hardships and helps protect one another and all that they value. It's a reboot from an old classic revolving around Donald Duck- one of the most popular animated characters in the world(to be honest I often see him being more popular than Mickey even). Something about this that makes it so amazing, to help you not feel embarrassed? The show is made by adults. Not overgrown children: adults. These people are well older then even myself, voicing, writing, and animating anthropomorphic ducks for one of the largest and most popular film/entertainment industries in the world. This was made by adults, and it's enjoyed by adults. Most of the humor or context provided in the show can't even be understood by most children younger then you, which just goes to show that it's well loved by those even older.
It's not just a kids show. And even if it was- guess what? You get a larger excuse then someone like me even, because you're still a kid. You can like this and people don't have the right to say anything about it.
You said you're in seventh grade? Do me a favor then: show pride in liking this show, and if someone so much as gives you a dirty look for it, I want you to say "Well what kind of shows and movies do you watch?"
If those kids are honest, then the majority of them like watching Disney and animated films as well. If they don't, then it will still be a show meant for younger teens/kids. If they answer that they watch shows and movies that are rated R or meant for adults; then point out that they're still kids too and that their parents shouldn't be okay with that as it is inappropriate most likely. Watching DT17 though? There's is nothing wrong or embarrassing about that.
Like I said; it's made by adults, it should be enjoyed by adults. It's a kids/family show? Then it's enjoyed by kids and families! My mother doesn't care to watch Tv, but when I played the intro for her, she was so happy because it reminded her of her childhood watching the original show and she and my older family members like watching it from time to time because that's what reboots and Disney do. The show is meant to be enjoyed by people your age and even decades older- that's the pure beauty behind it!
If people give you a hard time on it, you know what's the problem? They're embarrassed themselves. I've seen it and received this issue in person myself. Other kids have teased me on liking "little kids shows", only for me to learn later on that they like something others would have found even more childish. They're embarrassed because they have an interest in either the same thing or something else, but they don't want others to find out and act rudely towards it to be kept secret. It's sad, and it's slightly pathetic, but it's understandable because they're just as embarrassed as you and me.
When I got to college, I was more nervous about it then I was even back in high school- but you know what? On the first day, I saw nearly twenty different students wearing clothes with animated characters on them- from Mickey Mouse to Batman, and from Stich to Bratz. The thing is; people stopped caring what others thought, and it helps us realize that others don't actually care. Think about it; if you saw someone at your school wearing a hoodie themed after Bluey or Hilda or Adventure Time, would you care? Probably not in the way you think others would. If people your age do care, its because they're reaching an age of "maturity" where they think they're supposed to grow up and out of these things, when these fandoms are actually aimed to them.
Unfortunately, I will have to admit that the acceptance of this doesn't really fade away early enough. People will act like they're too mature and grown for such things for a while, with the once in a while exception of that one kid you shows off their interests at every turn(this level of confidence is something I will always admire). This usually shows up as early as fourth grade, and it will mostly continue until you all graduate from high school. But when you become an adult and finally leave school, you'll look at the world differently, realizing that this is now your world too. The feeling will be real and you'll actually feel it after you graduate, and goddamn is it a scary but exhilarating feeling. But you know what happens after that? You'll look around and see that most adults won't care- you say you like Disney shows and movies; "Dude, same! I love watching the old classics and reboots!" I have heard this response more times then you would ever believe.
It's just how people your age feel because you're all growing up. But please for the life of me- don't. Don't try to grow up- not like this. If you do, then you'll push yourself away from the beauty that the world tries to give you as a child. I know you can't stop from growing up, but truly enjoy it for now, before it becomes expected of you.
If you like DuckTales? Then show it off. If people make fun of you or tease you, even if they're your friends? Then who needs them. Your real friends will understand and accept you, and the others are either lying to themselves; they grew up too fast and are making fun because they aren't as happy as you, not enjoying their childhood as much as you, and not letting themselves experience the world like you.
Your interests are your interests. Screw the haters.

So, based off of that really good descriptive scene (probably one of my favorites by the way) of when Aemond got a flashback of killing Luke when he watched Pinocchio get eaten by the whale, did the family resolve to have the movie banned for the time being? And if so, what other things have been placed on the banned list for the family so as not to trigger any ptsd flashbacks? And if you’d like to elaborate, I’d love to hear more about why you chose to use that movie scene in particular.
Ohhhh, i love this question!
Pinocchio was actually on the “no watch list” for a whiilee. Now that he’s older Aemond has no problem with it despite that twinge of slight discomfort still being present, but after that particular event the adults refused to make room for another incident so they refuse to take risks. I myself chose Pinocchio for a few reasons; one being that I feel Pinocchio and Luke are one in the same, young boys who want nothing more than to prove themselves and set off to accomplish said goal. For Pinocchio he wants to become a real boy while Luke wants to show he’s just as much of a real Targ as the rest of his family, that he can stand beside Jace rather than tucked behind him. That he won’t cower while so much is on the line.
The parallels in both the whale scene and Luke’s death hit close to home in my opinion, mirroring each other in a way so to speak. One depicts an idealistic child-like pov of something such as being swallowed whole by an overwhelming creature that would otherwise end in a gruesome death, while the other (Luke) actually experiences said death, remembers what it feels like to be eaten alive and everything. These events are so similar yet couldn’t be more different. Young Aemond saw a boy being devoured and his mind took him back to one of his biggest regrets. It didn’t matter that Pinocchio ended up just fine because Luke didn’t. Even though Aemond was a child he’d already been born knowing how untruthful Disney fairytales were.
Okay, so there is actually a crap ton of media thats been banned in the home for one reason or another. Either that be because the sight of arrows makes Jace so uncomfortable that he can feel them piercing his skin again, or the sight of fire bringing Egg back to the very moment Rhaenyra was murdered in front of him.
mass disease in film is a no no because it reminds Alicent of her own death. And really anything having to do with infant/child death for Helaena sake.
Sexual assault in media is a theme they tend to stray away from and don’t take likely. Harwin will happily spoil a movie for himself if it means not running into any SA scenes since Alicent and Helaena have experienced martial rape and Aegon has been a perpetrator himself. Once Luke’s own history comes to light this rule will be even stricter without question.
A few movies that have been barred from being viewed in their homes are as follows.
1. Promising young woman - Alicent thought she’d be able to handle it but couldn’t stomach it despite its message.
2. The lovely bones - Hits too close to home for the parents. Though their children were kidnapped they still know what it feels like to wake up one day with your child by your side and go to sleep without them the next
3. Grave of fireflies - This one puts a perspective on the outcome of war from everyday civilians pov and its filled the room with guilt.
4. Gladiator - this one Jace watched while at a friend’s house and was actually excited, but he soon realized he just couldn’t handle the battle scenes.
5. Orphan - Egg watched this on his own and enjoyed it up until the scene where the treehouse is burned down.

i cannot believe i’m doing this. so this is an unfinished fic i started back in august, it was supposed to be aurora’s introduction fic sort of but i never finished it. however, since she has come up again, and an anon asked if i’d post it, here it is.😅 also another shoutout to @spicedchaiandromeda because she has the best ideas about college!klitz and so a lot of the college stuff discussed here stemmed originally from her brain and became a set of wider, more collaborated ideas💕
Tumblr media
(just for the record, this is grown up!klitz x reader, like you two are grown adults with a house and a child in this fic. vv excited for this😊)
warnings: fluff, allusions to smut
ariel klitz’s favorite disney princess isn’t who you’d assume it to be.
ari’s favorite princess was sleeping beauty, aurora, briar rose. to be honest, you weren’t quite sure how this came about. how could your daughter not love the princess she was named after? maybe it was because “the little mermaid” had constantly been playing in your home until ariel was about two years old and requested a different film. though it broke your heart just slightly, who were you to deny your little girl a different movie?
she quickly came to adore the dreaminess of the vintage disney film. her favorite version of aurora’s dress was the blue one, she knew the names of the three fairy godmothers and could recite them as quick as a whip and without hesitation, and she mimicked every move the ethereal princess made; from dancing in the woods to the pricking of her finger. ariel’s favorite activity was to make your husband pretend to be prince philip and rescue you while you were given the honor to play princess aurora. your daughter would force her father to pretend to slay the dragon, run up through the castle (also known as your living room), find you (aurora), and awaken you with a kiss. the kiss was both ariel’s least favorite and favorite part; it was gross watching her parents kiss, but the princess finally awakes when their lips meet. she’d often cover her eyes and giggle, peeking through her tiny fingers when your knight in an old t-shirt would gently press his lips to yours.
“you saved me,” you’d coo quietly to klitz as soon as your eyes opened to meet your husband’s, full of love and admiration as he smiled at you. your daughter would continue to keep her eyes covered as klitz couldn’t help but kiss you again.
as ariel grew, she hit the phase that most only-children go through: she began to ask for a little sibling. a sister, to be exact. it took you aback the first time she had posed the question, and klitz was transported back to being an awkward teenager once again — face red, not able to come up with or even stutter out any coherent words.
“a baby sister?” klitz had asked his daughter nervously. “you really want a baby sister?” he was stunned. ariel had mentioned it so casually whilst watching her favorite movie.
“yeah! i really want one, daddy. we can name her aurora! like the princess!” ari insisted with a little giggle. she climbed up onto her father’s lap and looked up at him with her big green eyes. “please, daddy?” she begged.
and it had been like that for weeks.
ariel constantly brought up the idea of a new sister, and the more she begged, the more you began to fall in love with the idea. you remembered your college days with klitz; him always telling you how the two of you were going to get married, how you were going to buy a house together, and how you were going to have children together. your husband, then-boyfriend, would hold you on his lap, kiss you, and convey those plans to you. it was so dreamy and always had you so captivated, and with his lips on your neck keeping you in ecstasy, you could only ever whimper out your agreements.
ariel sat in your lap as “once upon a dream” played from the speakers and the credits rolled. a blanket covered the bottom half of the two of you as you held ari close. your little girl’s head laid limp against your chest, her eyes closed as her chest raised and lowered with every little breath she took. your living room was dimly lit and, glancing at the clock, it was just past your daughter’s bedtime.
“i can take her,” your husband said lowly as he walked back in from the kitchen. you hummed and glanced down at sleeping ariel, pressing a kiss to the top of her head and gently swiping locks of chestnut hair from her face.
“mmkay,” you replied, giving your sleeping daughter a small squeeze to your chest. klitz walked over and ever so carefully lifted your three and a half year old into his arms. she hummed and klitz kissed her little cheek.
“hi, sweetheart,” he cooed quietly. ariel’s little arms wrapped around her father’s neck as he carried her off to bed. you watched klitz disappear down the hallway and into ari’s room, and your heart fluttered. you remembered how in love klitz had been with his baby daughter. you remembered the way he would hold her so close and press kisses to her soft baby skin. he would brokenly hum “part of your world” to the baby and shower her with love. your daughter was three and a half now, and very little had changed in his behavior towards her. timothy klitz loved and cherished his daughter before she was even born, which begged the question…
another?
you sat up from your spot on the couch and turned the television off. you stretched out your arms and back, allowing your body to stretch back into the ligaments and joints that had been stiff from sitting and holding your daughter. you stalked down the same dimly lit hallway and took a glance outside the window at all the stars lighting up the night sky before turning to look in your daughter’s room. your heart melted as you saw your husband carefully lower your daughter into her bed. ariel curled into the fetal position as klitz pulled her lilac purple bedsheets over her littlr body. ariel’s nightlight and under the sea ceiling light projector casted not only enough light to prevent your daughter from getting scared at night, but also just enough light to see the small smile on your husband’s face. he gently brushed hair out of his daughter’s face before kissing her forehead. as his eyes rose, klitz found you standing in the doorway. your eyes met and lingered for a moment before you held out your hand.
he carefully arose from his spot on the edge of ari’s bed and walked over to meet you, placing his hand in yours. you grinned before taking one last look at your peacefully sleeping daughter, closing her door quietly. without a word between the two of you, you and klitz tiredly made your way to your shared bedroom. upon entering, you pulled klitz into a tight hug. his gangly frame wrapped around you, barely changing from when you were teenagers. you loved it though; it was your klitzy, and you loved that he still felt the same. klitz pressed a kiss to the top of your head, sighing contentedly.

I'm gonna need the current animation-twitter-blogosphere-youtube-content-mill to understand something... Or at least, listen for a bit. I'm no expert, but as someone who has watched box office - particularly animation box office - for nearly two decades now, I wanna talk about what's going on with a lot of animated features nowadays in a post-outbreak world that's still actually dealing with COVID-19.
Box office, the way Hollywood measures it, is already archaic beyond belief at this point. Success and the movie's justification for existence being determined by a thing's opening weekend and not the legs, the longevity beyond theaters, etc. etc. It's created this weird culture of deeming things "flops" and also creating this weird obsession with marketing.
And apparently more than one of the YouTube Toon Opinion Industrial Complex content mills are already calling a movie like MIGRATION, which is currently legging it up in a way that Illumination's SING movies did during the holiday frame in their respective release years, a money-loser... Like, pump the brakes, will ya?
I don't care if it's clickbait or whatever, like, c'mon... We're reducing the hard work of animators and filmmakers to how much the movie makes in its first weeks of existence.
The way I see it, we're in an era now where...
Theater trips are goddamn expensive and are kind of a gamble. Over $50-70 for a family to see a movie, with concessions added, and your experience may SUCK. (Take it from me, 8-year movie theater employee and loooong-time moviegoer here who has had plenty a shit experience.) It's a gamble each and every time.
And the same applies to maybe a friend group, or a dating couple, or even older adults looking to watch something.
So, either the movie has to be something audiences are familiar with AND know what they're going to get out of it (i.e. MARIO, certain Marvel movies, etc.), or it's lucky to hit audiences in the right place at the right time (OPPENHEIMER, etc.) and luckily tap into the zeitgeist- if not change the zeitgeist singlehandedly.
Box office alone is a gamble. When you start a movie 4 years before release, how the hell do you know what the world is going to look like by the time the thing is completed?
I'm repeating myself, like a broken mp3, I know I know.
But, that's how I see it... Thus, animated family movies and their usual family audiences are in a unique position at the moment. A pretty solid-looking, more original animated family film from Pixar or DreamWorks or Sony had more chances of opening with $40m than they do now. Say, a movie that's not based on a pre-existing IP or is based on one that was never before adapted into a movie or TV series (think something like THE BAD GUYS).
Of course, you have your MARIOs and SPIDER-VERSEs. Those were guaranteed big openers. Films like ELEMENTAL and MIGRATION weren't so clear-cut. Even TROLLS 3 opened fine-ish, significantly below what TROLLS took in some 7 years ago. PUSS IN BOOTS 2 was hampered by bad weather on the East Coast, yeah, but its opening wasn't going to be anything special either. Legs... Or wings in MIGRATION's case, cat claws in PUSS's case... Make all the difference.
They always have, actually. Animated family features usually relied on strong word-of-mouth if they had some kind of adult appeal. It's something similar to what Walt Disney had once "realized" in the late 1950s. Something to the tune of "If the film really appealed to mom... Then mom takes the whole family... And then tells all her friends, and they go, and everyone goes."
So I feel we're in an era where the success of an animated feature can NOT be determined too early. Remember how ELEMENTAL was written off as a big ol' flop, immediately? And that Pixar was toast? And that they needed to bring the Hawaiian shirt pervert control freak back in order to get a box office hit again?
Weeks later, everyone was singing a different tune. ELEMENTAL was an underdog, it had a "comeback" story. No folks, that's just classic animation legs. People liked the movie after hearing from the few people who saw it... That it was actually worth checking out.
But these films need the legs more than ever before, now. Especially in a competitive marketplace where stuff is coming out every week, and there's always something just as good at home to put on. (Some people are trying to suggest that Netflix's LEO cut into Disney's WISH... Because it's at home, right there, no overpriced snacks or disruptive strangers next to you.)
Luckily, TROLLS 3 and MIGRATION were lower with their budgets. Cost in the sub-$100m regions, weren't required to make half a billion like the $200m-costing ELEMENTAL and WISH were expected to do. Which is kinda unfair to begin with, but I digress. Pixar is sure to blow $175m+ on their future features, and WDAS too, while DreamWorks, Illumination, and Sony try to keep it below $100m. Even if it's through dubious means, like outsourcing and shitty pay.
So, nowadays with animated family movies, it's a waiting game. MIGRATION, as of now, is currently at $77m domestically. That's already 6.4x its opening weekend, a fantastic multiplier for any film. By the time it wraps up, it'll likely make over 8x its opening weekend, landing amongst the biggest multipliers for a post-90s animated feature. That Christmas-to-winter break-to-boredom season slot does wonders, doesn't it? And of course, the movie being liked by those who saw it. WISH could've been a leggy Thanksgiving/Christmas movie - like TANGLED and FROZEN and MOANA were, but audiences clearly weren't digging it much.
Of course, it's not easy to do that, either. Sometimes a thing just won't land. LIGHTYEAR, for example. That's also part of the gamble. More often than not, though, these kinds of movies usually get a good audience grade, MIGRATION's no different... So, it's leggin' it up, winging it.
Which is why we should maybe... Wait a few weeks on these kinds of things? I know these "content creators" have bills to pay and have to crank-crank-crank stuff out, but still-

So, here's a fun little factoid about me: I'm a fan of the 2000 film Dinosaur by Disney.
...surprise!
For the ones who have no idea what the hell I'm talking about, Disney's Dinosaur was a film released during their Experimental Era that followed shortly after the success of the Renaissance. It was a time when Disney took some risks and ventured out of their comfort zone in order to explore other possibilities when it comes to animation.
The results were...mixed. The Experimental Era is widely regarded as a bit of a black period for avid animation fans. While I can definitely say there is some truth to it (Disney still used some tropes like comic relief characters and played safe in some areas which prevented them from being spectacular), I still believe that even the weaker films in this era had a lot of strong moments and elements that warrant at least one watch.
Which brings us to Dinosaur. It started out life as a film idea by Paul Verhoeven of RoboCop fame, and our old friend Phil Tippett.
Tumblr media
Naturally, the original idea for Dinosaur was...significantly different from the end product. While some basic ideas made it through to the end (the basic plot about an asteroid hitting the earth, lemurs, and a marauding predator stalking the heroes), a lot of stuff was left out on the cutting table.
For example, this was an idea:
Tumblr media
The original idea was to focus on a Styracosaurus named Woot, who's plot involved surviving the asteroid that ended the Cretaceous Period (and the era of the dinosaur as a whole) while having to contend with a Tyrannosaurus stalking him down. It was to feature a lot of explicit material including gory battles and dinosaurs having sex.
Naturally when the film idea winded up at Disney's doorstep, a lot of elements were changed including toning down the blood, removing the sex, and replacing Woot with an Iguanodon named Aladar (though a Styracosaurus named Eema did play a major role in the final product).
In the film proper, Aladar (D.B. Sweeney) is the sole survivor of his nest being crushed in an attack by a Carnotaurus before winding up on an isolated island populated by lemurs. After being taken in by one of the lemurs called Plio (Alfre Woodard), Aladar grows up into a young adult where his world is shattered when an asteroid (not the big one in this case) completely destroys his island, leaving himself and his most immediate family as the sole survivors. After escaping an attack by a pack of starving Velociraptors, they come across a herd of Iguanodons and other dinosaurs led by Kron (Samuel E. Wright) who are heading to the supposedly untouched Nesting Grounds in a desperate bid to survive.
Naturally, things start going downhill as Aladar and the herd march across a scorching desert. Thirst and exhaustion are real dangers, not helped by the fact that Kron's leadership starts to deteoriate and he starts making decisions that threatens them all. And complicating things even further, a pair of massive Carnotaurs begin stalking the herd. In a hostile world with odds ever increasing, Aladar begins to emerge as a leader amongst the weaker members of the herd and may be the one who can save them all.
As you can tell, the story is...formulaic. It's the basic "journey to the promised land" as the hero learns what it means to lead. It...doesn't exactly help that there was another movie with this exact same premise that also featured dinosaurs.
Tumblr media
And…yeah. No arguments here. It’s one of those things I was talking about earlier. The story is pretty basic and doesn’t really do a whole lot to venture out from that. And the majority of the characters reflects that. Aladar is your basic sarcastic nice guy hero. Kron’s the stern but flawed leader. Neera (Julianna Marguiles), Kron’s sister, is the love interest. And Zini (Max Casella), Aladar’s childhood lemur friend is the comic relief.
…not really good comic relief that wears out his welcome once we get to the desert mind you. Yeah, can’t win them all.
So, we have a pretty basic story with fairly basic characters. That’s…not a good look for our movie so far. But if the execution is good, then some of the aforementioned issues will be mitigated, right?
Actually…yes.
Tumblr media
To begin, the animation used to bring the dinosaurs to life is beautiful. Similar to The Lion King remake, Dinosaur employs a photorealistic style, focusing on CGI and realistic animation. Unlike The Lion King remake though, the dinosaurs actually feel…real. There’s a real weight to them that makes it though they’re actually there in those real environments instead of just being an effect. Their movements are incredibly fluid and they show an impressive range of emoting for non anthropomorphized animals (with the exception being the Iguanodons who were given full lips and fleshy snouts as opposed to the hard beaks they had in real life).
Even with the non speaking dinosaurs, you can easily tell just what they’re thinking. Which becomes pretty apparent with the big predators as we’ll discuss a little later. The animation really compliments the story and elevates it to something a little beyond its basic premise.
Tumblr media
Another thing that goes in favor of the movie are, ironically, the characters. While the main cast are a little bland as I mentioned, the supporting cast is actually a lot of fun and brings a lot to the table. In particular are Eema the Styracosaurus (Della Reese) and Baylene the Brachiosaurus (Joan Plowright), the two elderly dinosaurs lagging behind the rest of the herd along with an Euoplocephalus called Url (Frank Welker). Despite knowing that they’re lagging behind, neither of them are willing to give up and try to keep a stiff upper lip in the middle of all their hardships. Eema in particular provides a bit more appropriate dry humor compared to Zini’s zaniness and has a lot of good chemistry with Yar (Ossie Davis), Aladar’s adoptive lemur father. Baylene in comparison actually has one of the more dramatic character arcs going from timid to willing to stand for what she believes in, even kicking off arguably one of the most strongest moments in the entire film.
Baylene’s a favorite of mine actually.
Tumblr media
Another favorite of mine happens to be Bruton (Peter Siragusa), Kron’s second in command. Like Baylene, Bruton has one of the most dramatic arcs in the film. He starts out as essentially Kron 2.0, rough around the edges and a bit of a thug. There are hints that there’s more to him though since he does try to appeal to Kron’s better nature and offers some advice whenever he’s stuck, but over all he’s not the nicest one around.
Then he gets mauled by a Carnotaur and comes limping back to Kron, who coldly leaves him behind while he musters the herd in a mad dash to get away. Wounded and exhausted, Bruton was essentially left behind to die. And in a surprising show of empathy towards somebody that he never got along with, Aladar offers to help him get back on his feet and leads the hurt dinosaur to a cave to get out of the rain. Bruton later comes around after being shown kindness and being healed by Plio, managing to fend off the Carnotaur pair and even sacrificing himself to stop them while dragging one of them to the afterlife with him.
For someone who was Kron's number two, that's a surprising amount of compassion and bravery on his part.
Speaking of Carnotaurs, they are another pair of characters I actually really like.
Tumblr media
As mentioned before, these guys are essentially our T.rex stand in (they were originally meant to be Tyrannosaurs actually). They certainly fit the bill of big predatory dinosaur well since there's almost always an aura of dread and menace about them. Almost every encounter usually results in somebody dead. Even their design is menacing with a bloodred hide and horns giving them a demonic look.
The odd thing is though...they aren't really portrayed as monsters.
While the pair is portrayed as a legitimate threat, they're more content with following the herd and go after isolated stragglers like most predators. Plus the animation is so good that despite not speaking a single line of dialogue, they often have as much character as the protagonists.
One moment in particular sort of highlights what I'm talking about. When Bruton causes that cave in that kills one of them, the other one drags itself out of the rocks. But rather go back on the attack, they immediately wheel around to check up on its partner, only to see that they're dead. They then stagger out of the cave before wheeling around and delivering a rather menacing snarl that sounds less like a hungry predator and more a declaration of vengeance.
Tumblr media
And little wonder either. It’s implied that the two were a mated pair and likely the only companionship they had in a new harsh world. So when one dies, the other loses it. And with it comes a radical new behavior. The survivor seems to deliberately go after Aladar and outright charges the herd instead of holding back like before. Doesn’t even try to save themselves when they go over a cliff, instead trying to drag Aladar down with them. It comes off less like the Carnotaurs are monsters and more animals doing their best to survive.
Which does work in the context of the film and works to its strengths. Even antagonistic characters like Kron are given moments to flesh them out and portray them as less evil and more being ground down by bad circumstance after bad circumstance. Hell, Kron doesn’t start out bad even if he is a little callous. Aladar certainly doesn’t try to defy him until he starts making rash decisions that threatens the entirety of the herd. Kron is less of a monster and more cracking under immeasurable pressure and is given a fair share of sympathy even at his worst moments.
That's another strength to this film. It feels...human. One of the core messages is about how empathy and compassion win out over cruelty and hardship. Which is demonstrated beautifully by Aladar who wants everybody to get to the Nesting Grounds to the point he doesn't directly challenge Kron's authority until it's clear he's gonna get them all killed. And even he has his limits since he has a breakdown and gives up all hope of survival in a cave in. Which...is actually pretty emotional. Not gonna lie.
Just because I said Aladar is kind of vanilla doesn't mean he can't stand on his own and have his moments.
That's a good way to sum up this film. It has flaws, but the flaws don't bring down the film all that much and detract from the experience. Even some of the weakness are mitigated in the film itself. Hell, Neera, the other fairly simplistic character I mentioned, does come into her own as her relationship with Aladar develops right up to trying to physically stop Kron from a fight with him and even takes Kron down to save Aladar.
Tumblr media
It's a good way of summarizing this film, flawed but they're not enough to detract from the overall experience. Combine that with the beautiful animation and you get a pretty underrated film in my opinion.
Course, there's also the score by James Newton Howard, who was basically allowed to be creative in composing a score for the Mesozoic era. The result? An epic and almost timeless soundtrack which has almost transcended the film itself. And no wonder. "The Egg Travels" is probably one of my favorite scores from any piece of media. It's this score that helps deliver more power to many of the film's scenes.
youtube
Is this film perfect? No. But I do think there's a lot that helps this film stand as a movie and a piece of paleomedia. Which is sad since it's effect on popular culture is almost minimal. I say almost since the soundtrack is widely beloved and it made Carnotaurus into a household name. Plus we got a pretty kickass ride at Animal Kingdom out of it.
Tumblr media
So, yeah. I'd recommend this one. And with Disney+ being a thing and more love being shown to the Experimental Era, I do think this film is worth a look.

Can You Feel the Love Tonight
Written By: Elton John & Tim Rice
Artist: Elton John
Released: 1994
Alternate versions included: Matthew Broderick & Sally Dworsky for The Lion King, 1994; Jason Raize & Heather Headley for The Lion King (OBC), 1997
An alternate version of the song of the same name from the 1994 Disney animated film The Lion King. This version is a piano-driven soft rock ballad by famed English singer-songwriter Elton John, who also composed many songs for the movie. It was the end credits song of the movie as well as a well-charted single in its own right, peaking at #4 on the US Billboard Top 100 as well as topping the US Hot Adult Contemporary and France’s SNEP charts. The lyrics of this version differ greatly from the version in the movie, but still covers roughly similar themes to that of the movie. The song won an Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Original Song in 1994.
[Verse 1] There's a calm surrender to the rush of day When the heat of a rolling wind can be turned away An enchanted moment, and it sees me through It's enough for this restless warrior just to be with you [Chorus] And can you feel the love tonight? It is where we are It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer That we got this far And can you feel the love tonight? How it's laid to rest It's enough to make kings and vagabonds Believe the very best [Verse 2] There's a time for everyone if they only learn That the twistin' kaleidoscope moves us all in turn There's a rhyme and reason to the wild outdoors When the heart of this star-crossed voyager beats in time with yours [Chorus] And can you feel the love tonight? It is where we are It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer That we got this far And can you feel the love tonight? How it's laid to rest It's enough to make kings and vagabonds Believe the very best [Outro] It's enough to make kings and vagabonds Believe the very best
Original movie lyrics:
[Chorus] Can you feel the love tonight? The peace the evening brings The world, for once, in perfect harmony With all its living things [SIMBA] So many things to tell her But how to make her see The truth about my past? Impossible! She'd turn away from me [NALA] He's holding back, he's hiding But what, I can't decide Why won't he be the king I know he is The king I see inside? [Chorus] Can you feel the love tonight? The peace the evening brings The world, for once, in perfect harmony With all its living things Can you feel the love tonight? You needn't look too far Stealing through the night's uncertainties Love is where they are

I Say a Little Prayer
Written By: Hal David & Burt Bacharach
Artist: Aretha Franklin
Released: 1968
Originally recorded by: Dionne Warwick, 1967
Cover included: Dianna Agron for Glee, 2009
Originally written for Dionne Warwick by Burt Bacharach and Hal David in 1966, Aretha and her ‘Sweet Inspirations’ were fooling around before a show and warming up by singing “Say A Little Prayer” when it became obvious that they should make their own version. A second chance for Bacharach who wasn’t happy with his original version and told the L.A Times: “I thought I blew it. The tempo seemed too fast. I never wanted the record to come out. So what happens? They put out the record and it was a huge hit. I was wrong.” Although Aretha’s never quite reached the fame of Warwick’s version, it did reach 10 on the Hot 100 chart and 3 on the R&B chart. Even Bacharach finds Aretha’s version more pleasing: “Aretha just made a far better record.”
[Intro] (I say a little prayer for you) [Verse 1] The moment I wake up Before I put on my makeup (Makeup) I say a little (Prayer for you) And while I'm combing my hair now And wondering what dress to wear now (Wear now) I say a little (Prayer for you) [Chorus] Forever (Forever), and ever (Yeah) You'll stay in my heart and I will love you Forever (Forever), and ever (Ever) We never will part, oh, how I love you Together (Together), together (Together) That's how it must be to live without you Would only mean heartbreak for me (Ooh-hoo) [Verse 2] I run for the bus, dear But while riding I think of us, dear (Us, dear) I say a little (Prayer for you) And at work I just take time And all through my coffee break time (Break time) I say a little (Prayer for you) [Chorus] Forever (Forever), and ever (Ever) You'll stay in my heart and I will love you Forever (Forever), and ever (Ever) We never will part, oh, how I love you Together (Together), together (Together) That's how it must be to live without you Would only mean heartbreak for me (Nobody but me) Forever (Ever), and ever (Ever) You'll stay in my heart and I will love you Forever (Forever), and ever (Ever) We never will part, oh, how I love you Together (Together), together (Together) That's how it must be to live without you Would only mean heartbreak for me (Ooh, ooh-hoo) [Bridge] My darling, believe me (Believe me) For me, there is no one but you Please love me true I'm in love with you (Answer my prayer) Answer my prayer, baby (Answer my prayer) Say you'll love me true (Answer my prayer) Answer my prayer, baby (Answer my prayer) [Chorus] (Ey) Forever (Forever), and ever (Ever, ever) You'll stay in my heart and I will love you Forever (Forever), and ever (Ever) We never will part, oh, how I love you Together (Together), together (Together) That's how it must be to live without you Would only mean heartbreak for me (Oh, nobody but me) [Bridge] My darling, believe me (Believe me) For me, there is no one but you Please love me true [Outro] This is my prayer (Answer my prayer, baby) Answer my prayer now, baby (Answer my prayer, baby) This is my prayer (Answer my prayer, baby) Answer it right now, baby (Answer my prayer, baby) Say you'll love me true (Answer my prayer, baby) This is my prayer, baby (Answer my prayer, baby) I'm in love with you (Answer my prayer)

Media I’ve experienced in 2024 (January)
Considering how my other media reviews have been doing I felt unmotivated to just do them individually. So instead I decided to just make a monthly tier list. I’ll list each entry by order I finished them and just give my cliff notes thoughts on them from 1-10. And I’ll include how my opinions on what I’ve reviewed in the past has changed too.
Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising (8/10)-I wish I had a way of experiencing the beginning of the series to get more context but otherwise the gameplay and visuals are neat
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (9/10)-Considering I finally finished JJK later on, it’s no surprise this movie did a good job at introducing me to the series
Friendship In Disguise (7/10)-Still the same. Art looks nice but overly bright for G1 Transformers. Cool fanservice moments. But relies too much on FiM characters.
Persona 5 Tactica (6/10)-Not a necessary game and is forgettable, but it’s fine in gameplay I guess
Chainsaw Man (10/10)-I love chainsaw
One Piece:Strong World (9/10)-Shiki as a villain has a powerful prescience. The moments when the Strawhats attack him with guns was exciting. And Luffy’s final fight was heart stopping.
Ringu (7/10)-Disappointed that it’s just the same movie as its US counterpart. But still good for starting the story.
Shaun of the Dead (8/10)-Hilarious dark humor, clever dialogue and slapstick.
Kung Fu Panda (10/10)-Seeing this movie as an adult makes me appreciate what messages and humor had in store for a growing audience. Realizing Jackie Chan plays Monkey is the biggest plot twist of my life.
Transformers 1984 Seasons 3-4 (3/10)-Blurr is the bane of my existence and Galvatron’s screaming gets grating. The locations are interesting at least even if they rely too much on fantasy than Sci-Fi
Total Drama Island 2023 Season 2 (8/10)-Priya overstayed her welcome but I found the team and alliance dynamics interesting, it gave more characters the spotlight like MK and Damien, and helped build a connection with past seasons with OG cast cameos.
The Ghost and Molly McGee (8/10)-Good animation, fun characters, Disney stop being Disney and let your shows continue.
Kung Fu Panda 2 (9/10)-The locations and fights aren’t as memorable. Everything else though still hits for me
Kung Fu Panda 3 (8/10)-The Furious Five are really nothing characters if they get soloed by everybody. The humors a bit more obvious, but still keeps the quality of the fights and animation.
Justice League X RWBY Pt.II (5/10)-The first one is a movie I knew I’d dislike. This one is better since the Justice League is more in character but the rogues gallery is baffling and the RWBY designs look weird
The Magic of Cybertron (7/10)-On the same level as its predecessor but with a weirder roster.
Megaman X3 (3/10)-Boring levels, takes trial and error too far, and Zero’s permadeath is a terrible decision
Sonic Prime (6/10)-The animation and voice talents were cool but it drags a bit too long and the same few characters with a different coat of paint on them gets tiring
Tenacious D:The Pick of Destiny (8/10)-So that’s where those YouTube Poop sounds came from. The humor is pretty funny and the chemistry between Jack and Cage is entertaining. And the songs are either hilarious or unintentionally hitting.
Fire Emblem:Three Houses Black Eagles Route (9/10)-While the class and grinding does get repetitive, the story and drama hits hard. Edelgard, Bernie, and Hubert are really compelling and entertaining characters. I do plan to check out the other houses soon.
Transformers:War For Cybertron Trilogy (9/10)-The CGI looks great and honestly works as a prequel to the 84’ series. And when the Maximals came in Season 3 it had me shocked.
Spider-Man 2 (8/10)-A bit of a let down but considering how it’s an 8 shows a testament to the standards to Insomniac’s Spider-Man games. The gameplay is still pretty slick, traversal is fun, and is pretty cool in spectacle. Its main problems is the story, the villain lineup, and a lack of mechanics past games had.
Naruto (8/10)-Yeah, I never grew up on Naruto so i wanted to see what the hype was about. While yes it has its problems like it’s annoying cliches and filler. I did end up liking the characters and settings. And the soundtrack and fights hits.
What If? Season 2 (2/10)-The multiverse has been so tired out it’s hardly interesting anymore
Transformers:Rise of The Beasts (7/10)-The effects and characters are neat, not a fan of the human parts as much as I do Bumblebee.

Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion (1997)
This original ‘90s comedy film stars Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite) and Lisa Kudrow (Friends) as unaccomplished yet carefree best friends Romy White and Michele Weinberger, respectively, who decide to fabricate their lives at their ten-year high school reunion.
The supporting cast includes: Janeane Garofalo as cynical outsider/businesswoman Heather Mooney, Alan Cumming as high school geek/millionaire Sandy Frink, Julia Campbell as A-group leader/mean girl/stay-at-home mom Christie Masters, Vincent Ventresca (aka Fun Bobby on Friends) as former athlete Billy Christianson, Camryn Mannheim as the overly perky Toby Walters, Elaine Hendrix (known for her role as antagonistic fiancée Meredith Blake in Disney’s The Parent Trap) as A-group member/fashion editor Lisa Luder and Justin Theroux as social outcast Clarence.
Mira Sorvino (who speaks with a strong Valley Girl accent) and Lisa Kudrow both excel in this movie in their own comedic style. Romy is a low self-esteemed though assertive woman who works a dead-end job as a clerk for a car dealership. Michele is a ditzy but easygoing person (who happens to have the exact similarities as Phoebe Buffay) who is unemployed. Janeane Garofalo is quite the scene-stealer with her biting satire. Alan Cumming surprisingly pulls off the image of both social nerd and a man of extreme wealth in one minor role.
In terms of observing the everyday lives of the two main characters, (both in high school and adulthood), Romy and Michele were picked on by their peers for their outward appearances (Romy being overweight and Michele having to wear a back brace) and oddities, only to live a casual but unmotivated lifestyle in Venice Beach, California upon graduation. However, they enjoy hobbies that include freakishly elaborate fashion design and dancing at nightclubs. When they receive word of the high school reunion, they feel the need to reinvent themselves by dressing more appropriately, getting in better shape and finding better jobs as well as boyfriends. However, time is running short for them to succeed, so they come up with the idea to impress everyone by claiming to be the inventors of Post-It Notes.
The script is smartly written in the form of a sitcom-like formula that details the central topic of two clueless girls in their late twenties who don’t seem to have gotten anywhere in life. Apart from the intention to rub their so-called business in their tormentors’ faces, Romy and Michele’s friendship is put to the test when they begin to disagree with each other on who came up with what specific part of an everyday item they didn’t really invent. It is during that particular moment Romy and Michele argue over who’s “the Mary” (the lead) and/or “the Rhoda” (the associate), referring to the The Mary Tyler Moore Show. This particular comedic element conveys a hugely entertaining (and delusional) banter.
The reunion is the primary setting of the movie, demonstrating the difference between how people were perceived in high school versus how they’re perceived nowadays as as young adults. But it goes to show that while some people might wish to avoid embarrassment, anyone can still make an impression on others by just being themselves.
The soundtrack contains a collection of popular ‘80s hits. The track list includes: “Just a Girl” (a ‘90s song) by No Doubt, “Blood and Roses” by The Smithereens, “I Want Candy” by Bow Wow Wow, Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” (heard twice in the film, the second time during an offbeat dance routine), “Heaven Is a Place on Earth” by Belinda Carlisle and “We Got the Beat” by the Go-Go’s to name a few.
Lastly, the message of the film is that it doesn’t matter what goal you aim to achieve, but what really matters is having a buddy to support you and your life choices every step of the way. What’s more, this movie proves that blondes do indeed have more fun in a world that differs entirely from reality. All in all, I recommend this tremendously funny cult classic to each and every one of you.
“HAVE A ROMY AND MICHELE DAY!”

I reblogged this ask meme then passed out immediately. Whoops! Anyway, you had the misfortune to send me this just as I finished my entire series. I'm about to hit you with literally every thought I've ever had.
EncantoTV: A Retrospective
My goal in Encanto fanfic is always, as best I can, to re-create the tone and style of the original movie. I called the series "Encanto TV Episodes From Another Timeline" because that's the level of canon compliance I wanted, not just from the plot but also from everything else, with the tone and the humour and the themes and the characters we focus on - I wanted to write something that felt like Disney had greenlit it.
(It's entirely PG except this part, which I removed briefly in early 2022 and then remorsefully put back because I literally couldn't replace the line "de-bitched their grandmother".)
Tumblr media
Fun fact: I literally did not care for Camilo one iota the first time I watched Encanto. I don't mean I didn't like him; I mean I straight-up forgot one of the characters could shapeshift a couple of different times during the movie and had to google who the hell he was afterwards.
I put Camilo in When the Cat's Away because I thought he would be a funny narrator to a story that was primarily about Mirabel and Bruno, and then by necessity of being the narrator he got his own character arc, and that character arc spiralled into being the main emotional hook of the fic. Whoops.
The character who did get plenty of screentime from me, though: Bruno!
Here's the thing about fanfiction. Most people watched Encanto (2021), a Family-Adventure-Comedy, saw Bruno, thought he was hot, and then proceeded to write fiction about him that was also hot, such as porn, angst, porn/angst, and the great many variations of those things that exist on AO3. I watched that movie and went: "Great! I want more of this attractive, compelling character. He is a side character used primarily for comic relief, with a tragic backstory that is only ever minimally explored. Therefore, that is exclusively what I am going to write."
Hence: Bruno only appears as a major supporting character, and his main roles are to act as foil to Mirabel and comic relief, much the way he does in the original movie. I don't know what it is about that that I enjoy writing when, as far as I can tell, every other Bruno stan on the internet went down the logical route of writing fic that was about... well, him. Maybe a bit of narrative irrelevancy is just something I find attractive in a man?
Whatever about Camilo and Bruno, though. I thought Mirabel was a great character when I first watched Encanto, and now, having written 100,461 (fuck!) words about her, my feelings have only deepened. Mirabel, my daughter, life of my life!!! I adore you!!!
Seriously: I love this girl. I wound up spiralling into a whole series because there's just not enough I could say about her. I love the way the world feels when you're at a certain point in your teens, and you're smart and empathetic enough to understand the injustices of it, and you've got this whole life ahead of you to fix them and all these things to do around you and suddenly, for the briefest period of time, you have nothing but big ideas and burning passion to see them through. I wanted to capture that type of kid, somebody who's clearly very passionate and brilliant and inspired, despite the crushing lonliness and insecurity that sometimes comes with being fifteen.
Mirabel and Bruno's relationship is very dear to me. Mirabel is a teen who's pushing away her parents and the other adults in her life, feeling misunderstood. Bruno knows how to interact with the teens in a way that makes them feel treated and seen as adults, that validates their adult feelings and actions, while never actually crossing the boundary into being a friend. Bruno is a mentor, good at showing vulnerability when he needs to get through to someone and holding it back when they need strength instead. Mirabel desperately wants someone who makes her feel seen, and she needs an adult in her life she can trust. They go together like that.
The thing I'm proudest of about EncantoTV, though, is the plots. Because deciding that something is meant to be a cartoon TV episode, not a movie, not a novel, is just... a different type of story. TV plots can be bad. There are holes, there are wildly unrealistic natural disasters and uses of weapons, people run on and off the screen, and the whole thing needs to get wrapped up in a way that you can theoretically miss this episode and it still makes sense.
My finest achievement? I have gotten SO good at writing plots that are STUPID AS ALL FUCK. I'll write fucking anything in there. I put a ghost in the Encanto. I destroyed a whole fucking mountain then NEVER referenced it again. I brought back Bubo. Antonio went to JAIL. The places the characters go in Birds of Paradise? That shit makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER when you look at the timeline, because they could only have been walking for a few hours AT BEST but they still hike an entire watershed AND drive the same distance within AT MOST a couple of hours.
And you know what? AIN'T NOBODY IN THE COMMENTS TELLING ME IT WAS STUPID, CAUSE THEY CHECKED OUT BEFORE THEY GOT THAT FAR. Belissimo.
Anyway, it's 4am, and I'm definitely rambling. Here's my last point, which is about having readers!!!
My webcomic used to get a comment every 2-3 months. My fiction has been rejected from a couple of litmags. Something that has been mind-blowing, life-changing, awe-inspiring? Readers! People who read what I wrote and they liked it, and not only that they told me they liked it!!! I have written lots and lots of things, and I have never, in my life, had people go out of their way to contact me and tell me what they enjoyed and why, the way that people have done for these fics, and it's... damn!!! It's world-ending!!!
This was a long-ass post, I guess being my goodbye to the series... I want to thank you, @youmaycallmeyourhighness, for sending it, and for the various comments and messages, that shit means the WORLD to me. I am a humble college student, my grades are bad, and it is surreal that my writing is something that interests you.
To @bitchykuromi, @malewifebruno, @pinwheelwhirl, @greenvillainredemption, @originalavenuefox, @ramblesanddragons, and several others who either aren't on tumblr or I just can't find rn because it's 4am: I hope you all know how much it means to me that you liked my fics enough to read them over all this time, and find the time to tell me about it, and you are all such cool people it brings me such delight to think that I actually might have made you laugh irl.
THANK YOU WORLD FOR THE EXPERIENCE OF MAKING ENCANTOTV: IT'S BEEN REAL. Goodnight!!!!!

How do you two feel about Disney's recent "live-action" remakes? I mean I can safely assume you're not fans but could you be more specific?
I don’t mind some of them really. The ones that tell a new story are kinda fun for me. Like Cruella. And Doris is shaking her head at me so I’m going to keep talking out loud while I type. Seeing real actors do a new twist on something can be fun. It’s just when they tell the same story that I think it’s boring, and the CG characters rarely hit as well as the hand drawn ones. Those full on remakes that just rinse and repeat are not really allowed in this house. Only 90’s Lion King here. A movie like the Little Mermaid could be great with a new story. Go closer to the crazy dark story or something, but don’t just retread. And Doris is pacing and wanting to rant probably….so…I…won’t….take…..toooooooo….much…..time…to…
Thank you so much for this question, it’s something I do think of a lot. Now of course, remakes of animated properties isn’t anything new. It’s been something of an event for years, having major stars play live versions of animated characters. It never overshadowed the animated characters, and actually brought more attention to them, and Disney was at the forefront of this, producing live versions of classics.
Tumblr media
Yes, This is a Disney produced film, and I enjoyed it.
It wasn’t until about the 1990s that they brought an adaptation to theaters based on one of their own films. The Jungle Book.
Tumblr media
This was under the leadership of Michael Eisner, who would also see the studio create remakes of 101 Dalmatians. His protege Bob Igor would take these same practices and continue them once he became CEO. I was honestly fine with these remakes, mostly because they were telling new stories or a different perspective. That changed once Alice in Wonderland came out in 2010
Tumblr media
This was a troubling film. Not for being a poor view in my opinion, but for being so successful. This film made a Billion at the box office. When something makes that much, that’s basically film now. It hit that mark and I saw a flood of remakes coming, and they did.
Animation has always had a difficult time in the minds of studio execs. They see it as for kids and rarely want to try anything new or invest in stories with it. Alice breaking the box office confirmed to them that live action and photo realistic is for kids AND adults. So why invest in what’s only for kids when they could also get the adults?
I really hate this form of thinking, because these films wouldn’t exist without the original animated version. That’s all they stand on. There’s a reason the Aladdin trailer has the cave of wonders and why the Lion King showed the circle of life. It’s all just nostalgia bait. No creativity, nothing new, just a checklist of familiar things. It’s lazy and unfortunate that it keeps bringing in so much money for the studios.
Like Dawn said, Some of these films do tell new stories, and I wish all went that route, but most are simply painting over films to retell the same story but with lifeless visuals.
Animation is so deeply undervalued, and this is a crime, as it’s one of the most heartfelt methods of storytelling. Every frame is cared for, characters becoming so expressive and visuals that can connect to any generation and grip your heart. It’s magic on film, and there’s now people in charge of this industry who couldn’t care less about it.
This was on full display at the 2022 Academy Awards (at really every Oscars, but this one is of note)
Tumblr media
These ladies are lovely, but this was a low moment. Taking the time before the award to show a trailer for the live action little mermaid, having the host put down animation, and then the award presenters being 3 actresses who play live action versions of animated characters, the message was clear. This industry doesn’t care about animation, live action is what really matters.
There were apologies after this, but if you look at how Disney advertises their films, the live action remakes get the brunt of the advertising, animation gets the scraps. Where the 90s remakes were simply fun, we’re now in a full overdrive of them.
None of this should be a surprise. Studios go for whatever makes money and what seems easier, and these films have a formula they find very simple. Choose something people remember, get a popular actor, add CG and a lot of familiar scenes and watch the money flow in.
A real show of how greedy this system has become came in the same year as that Oscar display. A year Disney would take one of their most beloved films, one that was Walt’s favorite, one that became part of the theme of Disney and was considered untouchable…and they remade it.
Tumblr media
The original Pinocchio didn’t perform well when it opened (due to a war breaking out on its premiere date). This was crushing for Walt, but when it was rereleased it found an audience and became a classic. This film has a lot of amazing effects with water, magic and references being used in a clever way. Ideas of a sequel or any continuation were always shut down because this was one of the special films of the studio. But as time went on, and the remakes proved wildly profitable, we were bound to see this care fade away and bring us what many of us feared.
Tumblr media
Nothing is untouchable after this. And sure enough, we’ll soon be getting Bambi, Moana, Lilo and Stitch, the Aristocats and countless others. While on the animation front? Those are announced, like Wish, but not with the fervent need that the live action films are.
Now, do I hate the idea of live action remakes? Not really, but obviously there are things I wish they’d change. For one, I think it would be great if animated films were treated equally and given the same amount of attention by studios. If they were, I think we’d have another renaissance on our hands.
Second, STOP JUST TELLING THE SAME STORY! It’s all nostalgia references, and if the studio couldn’t plug in familiar songs, scenes and lines throughout, these films wouldn’t be made. But I think it would be far more rewarding to get a new experience with familiar characters. Tell us what happened years later, focus on a new character, or retell it and stick to the original story or let a director really put their stamp on it and create something different. Right now these films are amazingly dull with the same story and visuals that are pointlessly realistic. How do you remake something and take the life out of the characters and call it a feature!? If you don’t know how to show an animal with emotion (embarrassing, that’s animation 101. The directors should trust animation more), then find another way or just don’t do it.
Third, use these remakes as a vehicle to lift new artists. Give a new promising actor a chance to become the live face of this character. Let a new director show their style and start a career. These are guaranteed hits and it would be good to bring some new talent into the industry with it.
And last, limit yourself on these. With so many being rushed into live action remakes, I feel like Pixar films aren’t far behind. And now that Universal is getting into it by remaking Dreamwork’s How To Train Your Dragon, we seem to be on a path of over abundance. Wild, as we seem to already be there, but it’s getting worse.
I would much rather see a remake that takes a new path come out every few years, than the constant barrage we have now.
Thank you again for the question,
Doris.

Watching Peter Pan & Wendy, here be my thoughts as I’m watching.
Tumblr media
(Literally this poster does the movie wayyyy too much justice, the actual poster looks like a war movie in the dunes)
Background info: I’m Peter Pan crazy. While my sister got the lil princess dress in Disneyland, I got the Peter Pan green hat with red feather, and I looked freaking adorable. I love the live action film with Jason Isaacs, it slaps and continues to slap to this day, despite dated effects it still looks absolutely amazing. Comparisons will be made. My obsession with this movie was so strong, it annoyed my classmates. I love the Hook movie, it is a wonderful different look to the classic story and despite it’s problems, really speaks to the hearts of every child-adult. Also Rufio.
I love this story with all my heart and I expect nothing but empty feelings after watching this movie so I don’t give myself a haemorrhage. Let’s go.
- So far this movie is dark and depressing green. This is a reoccurring issue with disney live action films where they think ‘live action’ is Latin for ‘suck out all the saturation and contrast cus this kid movie isn’t for kids’ or smthn.
- I don’t know about Wendy’s change of personality to the original. Animated Wendy was always a little boring because she’s Edwardian British girl incarnate and therefore you must be boring, but she was still protective and had a bit of a temper. Wendy from the Good movie was unorthodox and creative and adventurous but clearly a girl on the cusp of wanting to grow up. This Wendy is adamant about not wanting to grow up (mood) but she’s once again naive British Girl incarnate that has to question everything but she’s also kinda really mean? For some reason? I think this is Disney’s attempt to have a more varied girl character, which noice, but why is y’all’s idea of a strong female character also often a bitch?
- I do like Wendy’s blue coat and peak Edwardian undies, that’s very nice.
- Man, these kids are acting their asses off and are doing such a good job, I wish they were in a better movie
- Peter so far is very meh. It’s like all his personality is sucked out and put into Wendy instead somehow. Where his cheekiness yo
- why does Tinker Bell move like Will Smith genie?
- Okay, doing a Peter Pan adaptation, there’s a few points you really gotta hit and I’ll refer to this often. The first one is the kids’ first time flying has GOT to SLAP. Everyone who saw the Good movie, even if they forget most of the movie, one scene they all always remember and they remember the music of, and it’s the flight through London. The animated movie had a whole song to have the kids introduced to flying. In both movies they had to practice a little to build up towards the eventual flight. Hell, even in the animated sequel “Return to Neverland” (which I still think is the better animated film tbh) had an entire sequence of the first time Peter and Jane go flying. You HAVE to nail this part of your Peter Pan movie, or else, why bother.
- Why do you even have Nana in your movie jfc.
- Okay real talk, the clock part and the slowing down their flight and then having it be that they’re flying over water: that’s so fucking cool, well done.
- The Good movie had, I think, only 1 shot where it was obviously CGI instead of the actual kids flying. I think this entire flight scene was 70% CGI and it’s not subtle. If they could do it in 2003, you can fucking do it 20 fucking years later. HAVE SOME PASSION GDI.
- Island looks boring. Listen, I love the flowing hills of Wales and Southern England but Neverland in every other adaptation has waterfalls, tall mountains, jungles, cliffs, huge trees, sprawling fauna and it wasn’t all vomit-green.
- Pirate ship would be cool if it wasn’t the colour of diarrhoea.
- Another thing you always gotta nail when doing your Peter Pan adaptation: Hook. What. The fuck. Is this Captain Hook. Nah, not even Captain Hook, more just…. Drunk Uncle Hook who was in the Vietnam war and has weird rules to help his anxiety? He’s not intimidating, he’s not funny, he’s washed out and BORING.
- Also like, reveal your Uncle Hook like he deserves it, yanno. In the Good Movie, you piss your pants with how slow they reveal him, you see his severed hand, you see him put on his hook with that CLICK, you see him and Smee talk and you immediately know what kind of man this is. In Hook, his hook is literally the first thing we see of him, and that magnificent hat. Get your Hook a giant hat or go home.
- Also should be played by the same character as Mr Darling. Just. You have to, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t.
- the hook doesn’t even look right, that looks like the thing they used in ‘I know what you did last summer’ not Captain Motherfucking Hook’s Hook.
- How do you make Smee boring, seriously, how do you do that
- Okay. I love these Lost Boys. Lost Boys of different colours, Lost Boys with tiny tempers, Lost Boy with glasses who’s that exact kid we all had in class at one point, Lost Boy with DOWN SYNDROME, HI, I LOVE YOU, Lost Boys that aren’t boys cus you’re literally 7 and at that point gender doesn’t matter to kids unless you’re Edwardian British. Good. I love it. Baby me appreciates it!
- However was there no more clever way to introduce Lost Boys that aren’t boys to the world? I guess it’s a movie for kids and going “We’re the Lost Boys” “But not all of you are boys” “And?” “Huh, fair” is the fastest way to get that out of the way so I guess it’s fine.
- Actual Native American Tiger Lilly, fuck you, Pan
- Skull Cave looks boring. In the Good Movie they made it the ruins of a castle which was a 10/10 improvement. Even the skull cave in Disneyland Paris is more intimidating than Holes In The Cliffs. Are y’all okay? Are you tired? You seem tired.
- Who gave Uncle Hook the hat that Sasha Baron Cohen wore in Les Miserables?
- Kids not nearly scared enough of drowning
- these rules are making Uncle Hook less cool, I hope the writers know this
- These pirates are cool, I wish they’d had a cool introduction or smthn like… Noodles, the pirate with his hands backward, or the one with his entire body tattoo’d
- At least they got the ‘Pan and Hook spitting threats at each other like 10 year olds’ right
- Yeah this is really ugly and boring, I’d like to stop watching now
- DID THEY JUST CIRCLE FADE, WHAT
- Wendy and Peter Pan aren’t… friends…? They should at least like each other…. Right???
- “Hook wasn’t always Hook” oh boy, we’re doing this huh
- Dayumn, 45 minutes into the movie and we’re FINALLY seeing inland Neverland. What a surprise, it’s pretty boring and ugly. Piss-yellow, dirty, etc. remember in the good movie where they lived in the roots of a giant tree that was set up and looked like they had been living there for forever?
- Man, it seems like Wendy and Tiger Lilly could’ve had a badass friendship if they had had more scenes together.
- About 48 minutes into the movie, Wendy pretty much says the problem of most Disney live action remakes out loud: “Yes, we already know that part of the story, but tell us something different.” Aside from Wendy being dubbed ‘the storyteller’ in this movie even though she has yet to tell a single story, what exactly is new and interesting about this adaptation of Peter Pan? As a kid and sometimes as an adult, I broke VHS’ and DVD’s from the amount of times I watched a movie and immediately rewatched it again, again and again until they gave out. Every adaptation of Peter Pan I owned went through that treatment because I loved them so much. What is in this adaptation aside from more progressive Lost Boys that makes this movie worth rewatchable? What’s this movie doing that’s different from all the others? Wendy and Peter are insufferable or boring, the pirates are boring, uncle hook is boring, the world is ugly and boring, and it hasn’t managed to keep my attention long enough for me to not pause 1/3rd into the movie to make some fries. I don’t need to finish the movie to tell to not watch this movie. Watch something more worth your time, watch the better Peter Pan adaptations cus this ain’t it.
- but I am gonna continue cus I’m recovering from surgery and have nothing else to do.
- You can’t tease me with fruit bats and then not show them, Smee
- Tinker Bell is so boring, I keep forgetting she’s a character in this movie, fuck you.
- Peter’s personality has been ripped from him so hard, it only took Wendy asking him twice before he spilled his beans, huh. Gone is the cocky guy, gone is the ‘I don’t do feelings’ dudebro, gone is the boneheaded fighter. Instead we have “he was my best friend :c”
- I’m really sorry, I know I’m just a fan or smthn, but wasn’t the point of Neverland that it’s so fantastical and adventurous and a kid’s dream that children didn’t want to leave? This is a shithole with danger around every corner and none of the kids have any desire to stay, WHAT IS GOING ON.
- Pan dies within the hour of the movie starting, I hope this means the movie is mercifully short
- Man, remember in the Good movie where Tink dies and Peter becomes so depressed and anguished, he snows in the entire island, making the pirates think he’s dead? I forgot what a good metaphor for grief and depression that was, goddamn. Yeah…. I think I’m gonna watch actual good peter pan movies after this.
- Hook spilling that he was a banished Lost Boy because he missed his mother is very OG Peter Pan, OG Pan is def cruel enough to do something like that…… wish we could’ve uuuuh… seen that Peter Pan in this movie….
- None of these characters have anything to learn except for Wendy and maybe Hook. Everybody else is kinda just… there. There’s no arc for any of them, there’s no incentive for them to become better people.
- Pan just came back to life, I’m not even surprised or bothered about how, it just is, I guess, sure
- I appreciate this movie’s attempt to have songs that fit the vibe without becoming a musical. I wish it had a better movie to support.
- as it stands, none of this execution drama is earned. I like Wendy’s moment of realisation that she can grow up and grow up happy but that’s she’s losing that by getting killed but, like, also, going off the plank is one of the silliest pirate thing known to man, even Pirates of the Caribbean never really made it intimidating. In the other movies it was really silly and the pirates sang a silly song, or it was action-packed because the crocodile was there, but in essence, the plank is child’s idea of a pirate death. You could make it dramatic in the idea that a child would be devastated of being pushed off the plank if it had been more established that Neverland is the land of children’s dreams, and it isnt.
- Again, gotta appreciate the movie trying to make Tiger Lilly more cool
- Uncle Hook, mid-battle: just like old times
Pan: all your times are old
Uncle Hook: LOLS
That was good, that made me laugh
- do Tiger Lilly and this specific pirate have beef? What was that?
- you know what’d be a good peter pan battle? One where peter pan FLIES.
- it really says a lot about your peter pan movie when you’ve seen the dude smile only 10% of the scenes he’s in
- Man, for making Hook and Pan being best friends being like the whole plot of this movie, they got over his death (he fell in water, again, child’s idea of dying) real quick.
- I love the Lost Boys so much, they’re so cute and good
- PAN IS SULKING AGAIN??? IT’S THE END OF THE MOVIE, LIGHTEN THE FUCK UP ALREADY
Yeah uh… not good. Don’t watch. Here my final thoughts on Peter Pan adaptations: It’s about adventuring in the child’s mind. Neverland is a children’s dream playpen, Peter Pan is the personification of the fear of growing up which means he’s immature, he has a temper, he thinks he knows everything but he has still a heart of gold, his moral compass hasn’t fully developed yet but he doesn’t truly want to hurt anyone. Captain Hook is the personification of impending adulthood, it’s the battle Peter always has to fight in order to stay young and immature, therefore Hook is charismatic (growing up seems like something good and desirable) but is ultimately lonely and miserable (the things we’re afraid adulthood actually is). Wendy is a character is supposed to be the edge between maturity and immaturity. She’s not ready to grow up but ultimately learns that no one really is and that she needs to defeat her FEAR of growing up rather than the idea of growing up itself. Peter learns from that that not everybody wants to stay young forever and to accept that fact. Those are usually the basics of a decent Pan movie, it’s an allegory for hitting puberty and how to deal with that. That’s why Hook and Return to Neverland are such good movies, because they play with the definition of ‘adult’. Both of them teach you that yes, growing up is important but that doesn’t mean you have to leave fun behind.
I dunno wtf this movie was trying to tell me. Don’t banish your friends? I don’t know what the fuck is happening in the live action remake writers room but take a break, please, i am actually worried at this point. Relearn why you love movies, rediscover why you love disney movies, maybe write a script about that and THEN make your next disney remake because the mousy lord dictates it. But take a break and relearn why you fucking love movies, please.

😎 I will be honest Vulture…. I didn’t see your reply to the “ I am embarrassed” post where I was talking about me accidentally commandeering the name Kit , I was on the drive back home while I was writing my last post. But yes the “ Insert person here” was meant to be Kit if we are using the name still , I will be honest I really like it. So the Father of the Family ( the second one to R and both Kit and R called Pa) was Quincy Morris Sr and the Mother of the family ( who was R’s only mother / motherly figure to her that Kit and R called Ma ) ….. I didn’t come up with a name for her yet . Vulture if you want to take a crack at it then be my guest. Also I noticed rereading the post that I wrote last night at the end saying “Vulture if R had a crush on Kit she didn’t realize it because she was so”, the first so was supposed to be young. Meaning she was young at the time ( she was only 13 when her mutation hit) and she was three years younger than Kit so of course he would have that realization much sooner about his true feelings much quicker than R did and like I said last night, so much was going on at the same time it never really clicked in her head that was what she was truly feeling . She also wouldn’t really be able to look back on it as an adult and realize “ oh I had a crush on Kit as a kid” because of all the happened that the same time covering it up , but that is only if she had a crush on him . Either way she always had some type of love and affection towards Kit Morris.
I will also add that before R was really able to talk Kit didn’t go by Kit …… people and his parents called him ( and still did call him Junior throughout his childhood/ young adulthood but mostly only when he was in trouble ) Junior but when R started to talk she couldn’t properly say Quincy so it came out as Kit. She was looking at Kit calling him that is that is when he got all wide eyed looking up at his parents saying that his name is now Kit. If anyone has seen Spy X Family and know about Damien Desmond and Anya Forger and how Damien acts towards Anya ( picking on her , calling her names etc ) but also so CLEARLY HAS A CRUSH ON HER and how Anya Forger acts towards him back ( she doesn’t take it laying down , she fires back insults and other such things. Anya straight up punches him on the first day of school) . That is exactly how a six year old Kit Morris and three year old R was and how the love -“hate” relationship between them started and lasted for ten years … up until R’s mutation hit and she disappeared. Six year old Kit was picking on her pulling on her braids calling her “ little bird” and a three year old R was saying “ Stop it Kit , you big old meanie !!!!!” as seriously and (*) indignantly (*) as a three year old girl could be . Kit reply taunting “ Ohhh what is a little small thing like you going to do about it????” to that R straight up head butts his ass and causes a split lip ( one that would heal into a small scar on his lip) . That was when their height difference was the most noticeable , ten years later Sixteen year old Kit had a noticeable growth spurt and it would have been a noticeable height difference between him and a 13 year old R if they ever got to see the other face to face. A 13 year old R was also excited to tell Kit all about her “ adult” room ( back in the day kids would be in a “ nursery” until they were like 13 , as seen in Peter Pan with the Darling kids and the father at the beginning stating that he is moving Wendy out of the Nursery. In that movie / story Wendy is like 12 ) and when he inevitably sneaks up to her window she was going to show him her “ adult” room like Kit was excited to show off his (barely there)facial hair, they wanted to show the other that they weren’t so much a little kid anymore ( R wouldn’t have admitted it about of of course) .
I don’t know if Peter Pan is Wolvie’s favorite Disney movie / story but it’s certainly one of them ( plus there has been a lot of live action Peter Pan movies that shouldn’t affect Nat with the RR brainwashing …… one of which was actually starring Ever Anderson who was the girl that played young Natasha Romanoff in the Black Widow opening ) and I think …. there is a line that Wendy says about “ forever is a awfully long time” in reply to Peter saying that they would never ever grow up in Neverland and when she decided to go back home that really strikes R because she has lived that and learned just HOW LONG FOREVER REALLY IS . Also in the 2003 live action movie there is a scene where Wendy and her brothers are back home and Peter is getting ready to fly way and Wendy asks “ You won’t forget me, will you ?” Peter replies “ Me , forget? Never!”. That HITS R SO HIT because when she was getting some of her memories back and she got bits and pieces of Esther Hudson back she always believed that her bodies reaction to the story her love for that story was always tied to Esther … R’s WENDY ( think about it , She can’t age - from the small bits she remember and information gathered she was in love with or loved Esther in some way even if R wasn’t remember the extent of that love - she had aventures with this “ Wendy” but ultimately losing her to age - R knows logically that Esther is dead now but doesn’t remember her reaction to the news nor getting the text about it- and finally meeting “ Wendy’s” daughter “ Jane” , R knows from information gathered by professor X and Jean that Esther had children and there is evidence that R had met them but doesn’t remember anything about a relationship she had with the Hudsons after or how much they meant to R. ) but with all of these weird things happening ( sightings out the corner of her eye of a tall man but him always vanishing when she looks at him head on, R getting these strange desires to do all this juvenile stuff and then the desire to watch Peter Pan again) THAT is when it hits her crying at that scene . Nat asking what is wrong and R looks at her saying “ I had a Peter and I had forgotten them !!!!!!” R always thought she always was / would be a Peter forever losing a Wendy and never imagined she was once a Wendy having lost a Peter.
I also don’t that that R head butts Scott as much as I would LOVE her to because even forgetting the metal of her bones for a second , she could break his sunglasses and that could be VERY DANGEROUS for EVERYONE around and with her metal bones- skull she could possibly kill someone or very badly injured someone doing that . R isn’t the type to risk people’s safety like that and isn’t the type who would severely injure others or risk killing them over some pity ass annoyance or grudge. HOWEVER she would or could “ accidentally” bump into someone that she “ just so happens” to found annoying or “ just so happens to have a” tiny grudge against walking pass them .
I had just gotten a thought about R and a movie that could be triggering for R and She just CANNOT WATCH without a VISCERAL REACTION or at all like with Nat and her brainwashing from the RR. But this is dependent on and tied to Victoria Creed ( aka Sabertooth) and how R knows her and what the background of both of them exactly is . That movie would be “The Greatest Show Man” as it has showing of the start of the circus and having “ Freak” shows in the 19th century. It brings back so much of the memories of a time R DESPERATELY tries to suppress or not have those memories come back. This time and her time in the weapon X program are tied together with memories R WISHES NEVER CAME BACK or wishes she can “ dunk her brain into bleach to forget” ( a line from the Darkest Knight) . What is dependent on the background with Victoria and R is are they like the comic book version of Wolverine and Sabertooth ( Sabertooth hating Wolverine for killing Sabers brother, a man that captured Wolverine and HELD HIM AGAINST HIS WILL for a 19th century freak show for a circus. Wolverine only killed that man to free himself from captivity) or movie version of those two. If it’s the comic version then as R sees or watched the movie she can’t stop the vivid flashbacks of her being chained down and gawked at by people for her mutation as she was held in captivity against her will in a Freak Show circus in the 1890s , she was known as “ The Wild Woman” ( Wolverine was known as “ The Wild Man” in the comic) and her long hair was a tangled up mess / her clothes …..were all ripped up. She truly looked wild ,savage ….. a beastly beauty. That was the most savage and wild R has ever been ( past or present) at this time and R remembers seeing a woman ( this is Victoria and I don’t know what she would look like or how to describe her at this point) all prim and proper, the perfect image of a civilized woman whom was the ( sister or lover, you get to choose Vulture) of the sick son of a bicth that had done this to R . R is having a full blown panic attack in the bathroom while she is shaking and throwing up in the toilet as she remembers her escape…. Killing the ring master ( the man who has held R against her will) and possibly a few others , something that she isn’t proud of but she …. JUST NEEDED A WAY OUT !!!!!! R knows that the ( sister or lover ) of the ring master lost her goddamn mind, the woman was always been mutant but she became the beastly woman hell bent on destroying and ripping R apart ( including anything or one that R loves) that is now known as Sabertooth. A reflection of sorts to R and everything that R doesn’t want to be . The real kicker is that Sabertooth has the same or similar mutation as R and is able to heal and have a long life like R . They are two immoral beings locked into a cat and mouse game Destined to fight , destroy, tear and rip each other apart for all eternity.
Ohhhhh what if in the SB universe SB R had a version of Kit Morris like DK R did . But SB was the one whom was the one that was three years older. But SB and their version of Kit Morris didn’t have that same love - “ hate” relationship because SB is too much of a golden retriever to be a mean to anybody and SB is too sweet for their Kit to be mean to them. Their Version of Kit Morris is a girl and both of the Beef Siblings were close with this “ Kit” girl . Sb was the one that had that crush on her and told her that one day they would marry them and she would always tell SB with a roll of her eyes “ When you tower over me in height and you are as strong as a Ox” . At some point during their childhood the girl and her family moved away but they ( the siblings and the girl ) always kept in touch but never saw each other again until adulthood. I will expand on this later …. possibly but imagine sergeant Romanoff finding out about this and especially about that crush and marriage line …. because SB is obviously strong as a ox and is now towering this girl . Especially when they ( SB and Nat ) are in a secret relationship and so when SB is confronted with their “ Kit” about who Nat is they say “ This is ( insert Nat’s specific rank of sergeant ) Sergeant Romanoff and she is my (they want to say significant other but actually say ) superior officer in the Army.
You can pick out the name of the SB AUs version of Kit Morris’ name . And if she had a crush on SB as kids ( Slim Jim! sergeant beef then ) or not …. and if she does now as an adult 👀👀👀.
* indignantly meaning : in a matter indicating anger or annoyance at something perceived as unfair. *
What do you think R’s last memory of Kit was in person at that Christmas party when Kit was 15 vulture( or if anyone else wanted to take a swing at it) ? Or do you want me to come up with something for it at a different time? And lastly how do you think Nat would react to Wolverine’s reaction/ panic attack at watching “ The Greatest Showman” or learning or seeing something historical about the “ wild woman” of the freak show of the 1890s ? How do Jean or anyone else would react ( maybe her daughter Rogue finds out) ? I don’t believe R would have been forthcoming with that part of her life and didn’t even tell Esther , Her old friend or any Hudson ( whether or not they found out on their own is up for debate).
Kit is in then!
Aw, I really like how R was the one who gave Kit his nickname. It's reassuring to know that as hard of a childhood as R had, she had a few really great friends (even if she doesn't remember them much anymore).
Hmm, that's a good point about Scott. Plus, Jean would be very angry with R and R knows for sure that she is never winning Jean back again. 😂
I really love "The Greatest Showman" lmao (but that is because I am a sucker and love anything and everything that Hugh Jackman is in), so I will not choose that one, but you reminded me of another very old movie (I believe it came out in 1932, so R would've been 100 years old at the time lol) but it was just called "Freaks" and considered to be one of the most notorious and controversial movies ever made. I haven't seen it personally but I looked it up, and it's basically a story about a sideshow circus, but many of the characters were portrayed by actual people who had disabilities (such as conjoined twins, dwarves, a man who was born without legs, etc.). But just like you mentioned, these performers were usually mistreated and abused because they looked different, which would remind R of the time she was treated like a circus animal herself. :( I'm not familiar with that comic, but it sounds like a really interesting one!
I love your headcanons about the slim jim!Sergeant Beef lol. It's just such a wholesome thought that this powerful sergeant once started out as a quiet and shy weakling. Perhaps we can name SB's version of Kit..."Luna."
Going off on a limb here...maybe R's last memory of Kit was her first kiss ever? 👀 I think R would be very secretive about the Wild Woman incident, perhaps because she is very embarrassed and ashamed of what she ended up doing to the ring master (and maybe even some other innocent performers who were in the wrong place at the wrong time). I feel like Nat would not be judgmental of what R did, but the fact that R tries to hide it, because Nat believes that acceptance is a way of coping and moving on, but R is very stubborn and needs some work there.

Fifteen Days of Disney Magic - Number 8
Welcome to Fifteen Days of Disney Magic! In honor of the company’s 100th Anniversary, I am counting down my Top 15 Favorite Movies from Walt Disney Animation Studios! We're now halfway through the countdown! Today’s entry proves the quote, “The past is never dead. It isn’t even past.” Number 8 is…The Lion King.
Tumblr media
If I had to make a few guesses, I’d say the most unorthodox things about my countdown would be the following: one, putting “Fun & Fancy Free,” of all films, in my Top 15. Two, only including one modern era Disney film in the ranks, and we’ll get to that one eventually, don’t worry. Three, not including “Beauty and the Beast” in my Top 10…and four, making “The Lion King” ONLY 8th place. Yes, I am aware that I am a blasphemous heathen who deserves to be hit with a stick. So sue me. Once again, I must stress, do not take the lower placement of “The Lion King” to mean I dislike the film. Because, obviously, I do not. I think the movie is one of the most epic features Disney has ever put out, and it’s not a surprise that so many people name it as one of their top five favorite Disney movies, or even their absolute favorite. It was one of the most successful features of its time, and for good reason. Combining elements of Shakespeare with earlier animated works, including the anime “Kimba the White Lion” and Disney’s own “Bambi,” and a lot of its own original material, “Lion King” was and still is a unique movie in the Disney canon. In some ways, I would argue it’s a little more adult than many other Disney films, although it still has plenty of elements that can appeal to children, or even to one’s inner child.
There are many things that make this film as “big” as it is. The visuals are sweeping and grand; even the most minor shots always seem to have a lot of punch to them. It takes great advantage of the colors and visual motifs of its natural African setting to create some of the most gorgeous images you’ll find in any animated movie. Practically every frame of this film, if you were to halt it in place, could make a perfectly composed picture; almost something you would want to hang up on your wall. From childhood innocence to the bitterness of adulthood, and everything in-between, it patterns the emotional and physical journeys of Simba beautifully. Hans Zimmer’s score is equally powerful; I feel this actually may be one of his most underrated soundtracks, since when most people think of his name, they probably think of his work with Christopher Nolan, or on franchises like “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and when most people think of music in the Lion King, they tend to think of the songs. And while the songs are great – REALLY great – I think that Zimmer’s score is equally applause-worthy, as it works with the imagery (and the splendid voice cast) to paint every character and scene expertly. However, when I rewatched the film, what struck me most was the overall message of the story. This is where I think it’s most adult elements show: not in the death of Mufasa, or the family struggles, but in its ultimate and most prominent theme. The film is ultimately about one person learning to overcome his own perceived past mistakes, and bring justice and truth to a world filled with lies. We have all made mistakes or wished to correct unjust situations, and I think that theme is just as powerful today as it ever was. For me, it is perhaps especially poignant; I have, more and more frequently, found myself dealing with old wounds and not-so-forgotten errors, and wishing I could find a way to correct all those terrible things I did or said. So I can relate to someone like Simba in a way that’s different from many other characters Disney has created. As far as its competition with “Aladdin,” "Peter Pan," and “Beauty and the Beast” can be concerned, Lion King ranks high on all counts. Using the criteria I named in my previous two entries on the countdown: Lion King certainly has a lot of nostalgic value for me, and I do tend to refer to it more than “Beauty and the Beast” in everyday situations. I’d say it and Aladdin are pretty evenly tied there. I also have a close connection to it in writing, since my commission work has led to me writing A LOT of stories set in the universe of this film and its later spin-offs. And while there aren’t AS many parts I’d like to play in the story, in terms of a stage version, the chance to be in it, or even to just SEE it, onstage would be absolutely fantastic beyond belief – something I’d look forward to more than either of the other two films it was competing with. Therefore, it tops them both…but not the other films yet to come. I'm going to be honest, before I close this out: this film actually rose in the ranks by a grand margin. Just as I fully expected to put Peter Pan at the top of the four-part stretch when I went in, I actually expected to put Lion King at either 9th or 10th place. But upon returning to it, and reflecting on everything it means to me and all its done for me, I realized just how special this film truly was. It's not enough to break it into the Top 7...but I think when you see what those seven films are, you'll understand that being 8th place is far from an insult to this film's colossal credit. The countdown continues tomorrow with my 7th Favorite Disney Movie! HINT: An Underrated Mouse-terpiece.
