“Obedience Is the Key That Unlocks God’s Promises” By Rick Warren:

“Have you ever thought about the link between faith and obedience? When you trust someone, you do what they say. If you don’t do what someone tells you to do, it means you don’t trust them.

In the Bible, God links faith and obedience over and over again. The promises of God are conditioned on you following the directions he gives you.

Deuteronomy 5:33 says, “Follow all the directions the Lord your God has given you. Life will go well for you” (GW).

God has made some incredible, specific promises in his Word about obedience. In fact, there are so many promises that I can’t list them all here. But here are a few:

“God blesses those who obey him” (Proverbs 16:20 TLB).

“He saves those who obey him” (Psalm 7:10 GNT).

“The Lord watches over those who obey him” (Psalm 33:18 GNT).

“The Lord takes care of those who obey him” (Psalm 37:18 GNT).

“God gives us what we ask for because we obey God’s commands” (1 John 3:22 NCV).

“Always obey the Lord and you will be happy” (Proverbs 28:14 GNT).

“Keep God’s laws and you will live longer” (Proverbs 19:16 GNT).

“Those who obey him have all they need . . . Those who obey the Lord lack nothing good” (Psalm 34:9-10 GNT).

That’s an incredible list of promises. If you follow God’s directions, you’ll be blessed, saved, watched over, taken care of, given what you ask for, and happy; you’ll live longer and lack nothing good.

Obedience is the premise behind all of the promises. God gives you his promises by grace. But you get to enjoy his promises when you follow his instructions.

Sometimes you understand God’s instructions. But sometimes you don’t. And you need to obey whether or not you understand.

Some of God’s commands might sound confusing. Some may seem unfair. For example, the Bible says to take the first 10 percent of your income and give it back to him. It says that when people do evil to you, you are to do good back to them. These things don’t always make sense from a human standpoint. But the things that don’t make sense to us are the things God asks us to do by faith. He wants us to trust him and obey anyway.

I want you to enjoy all of God’s promises. Obedience is the key that unlocks them. Choose to follow his directions today in faith. He promises to reward you for your obedience.”

God Wants To Bless You

“Stay on the path that the Lord your God has commanded you to follow. Then you will live long and prosperous lives in the land…” Deuteronomy 5:33

 

Your Heavenly Father wants to bless your life. Psalms 35:27 says, “Let them shout for joy and be glad who favor my righteous cause: Let them say continually, ‘Let the Lord be magnified who has pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.’”

 

One of the first ways to experience the wonderful blessings of God is to care about the same things He cares about. When you “favor his righteous cause” by helping the poor and oppressed, you are preparing for God’s blessings. Being compassionate and becoming focused on others brings joy to your life.

 

Notice the verse didn’t say, “I take pleasure in their poverty.” God doesn’t take pleasure in watching you barely get by. He smiles when His children prosper. He is interested in every detail of your life, and He greatly cares about your house payment, savings account, and college fund. Believe and be fully persuaded that God wants you to thrive in life. He does not have a problem with blessing His children. 

 

God took “pleasure in the prosperity” of Abraham in Genesis 31:1. Abraham was very rich in livestock, silver, and gold. The Bible says that he reaped and sowed in a time of famine and yielded one hundredfold! His family was also greatly blessed for many generations. Abraham was a friend of God, and he experienced a life of favor and blessing.

 

Fortunately, you are also a friend of God. Galatians 3 says, “If you be in Christ, you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.” God wants you to win in life. He doesn’t want you to struggle your entire life, barely making ends meet. 

 

Trust God with your giving and love His causes. Don’t settle for where you are right now; reach out and dream big dreams. One day, you may be able to buy the company, own your own home, or advance in your career in an astonishing way. Be faithful to work with excellence and manage wisely what you currently have because God is delighted to bless you beyond measure.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day and looking forward to the weekend! My friends will be staying with me again tomorrow night so we can be at our cookie booth again early on Saturday morning. We will probably watch a movie like we did the last two times and then go to bed. All three of us stay very busy throughout the day, so I think that makes it easier to want to go to sleep instead of staying up and talking until early hours of the morning.

PUTTING ON LOVE - PRAYING THE SCRIPTURES

I love You, God, because You first loved me. (1 John 4:19)

You sent Your only begotten Son, Jesus, to this earth out of Your love for me and for others.  I have believed on Him and now, I will not perish  -  I have everlasting life.  You did not send Jesus to condemn me, but to save me, and I thank You for that!  (John 3:16,17)

God, if You loved me that much, I should give love to others. (1 John 4:11)

So, I will love others.  It's a sign that I've been born of You, because You are love.  But if I fail to love others, I fail to love You.  Help me to always love!  (1 John 4:7,8)

I put on love each day, as if it's a coat, because I know that You consider it the highest of all virtues  -  Your love binds every other good virtue together  and makes them one.  (Colossians 3:14)

Love is the most important sacrifice to another person that I can make.  I will love God with all my heart, soul, mind and all my strength, Lord, and I will love my neghbor as myself. (Mark 12:33)

Help me to love my enemies and pray for those who persecute me.  I do this in obedience to You, my Father in Heaven.  (Matthew 5:44)

I love others because You have loved me, and people will know that I'm a disciple of Yours because of the love that I show.  (John 13:34-35)

Circumcise my heart, God.  Consecrate me and help me to love You with all my heart and soul so that I may truly live well!  (Deuteronomy 30:6) 

Father, help me to remain in Your love just like Jesus.  He always obeyed Your commands and always remained in Your love.  (John 15:10)

Thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit!  Through Him, You have poured Your great love into my heart!  (Romans 5:5)

God, I know the Your love matters the most  -  though I speak many words, including the tongues of angels,  if I don't love others, my words are nothing but a lot of noise!  I can prophesy, understand everything there is to know, and have faith enough to move mountains.  I can give everything I have to feed the poor, even if I give my own body as a sacrifice to You, but without love, none of these things do any good at all:  Love matters most!  (1 Corinthians 13:1-3)

Help me to see Your love for what it is  -  patient and kind, never envious, boastful, proud, rude, self-seeking, or easily angered.  You love stops me from keeping a record of wrongs or delighting in what is evil.  Your love helps me to rejoice in truth and always protect, trust, hope, and persevere!  (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

Whatever I do, Lord, help me to do it in love!  (1 Corinthians 16:14)

The covenant I have with You, God, is not because of something physical, like circumcision.  My covenant was made through Jesus Christ  -  and my faith works by love!  (Galatians 5:6)

The fruit of your Spirit is love.  (Galatians 5:22)

I was called by God to be free!  But, I don't use my freedom as an excuse to live in sin and do only what I want.  Instead, I serve others in the way of love.  (Galatians 5:13)

God, You are rich in mercy and because of Your great love for me,  You have made me alive with Christ!  Even when I was dead in sin, you made a way of grace so that I could be saved!  (Ephesians 2:4-5)

I am being rooted and established in love.  I'm gaining the power to grasp the amazing measurements of Your love.  I realize that it surpasses all knowledge, but in "seeking" to find its measurements, I am being filled with the fullness of God.  (Ephesians 3:17-19)

I'm a volunteer prisoner of You and I will live a life worthy of Your calling.  In humility, gentleness, and patience, I will bear what others do in love.  I will strive to always keep the unity of Your Spirit and keep the peace.  (Ephesians 4:1-3)

I speak the truth in love and it causes me to grow up in all things  -  I'm a part of the body of Christ and we serve under the Head of the Church,  Jesus Christ!  We work together in love and this unites the whole body of Christ!  (Ephesians 4:15,16)

Like a child imitates those he admires, I imitate You Jesus, and live a life of love!  Because You loved me and gave Yourself for me as a good-smelling offering to God,  I will give myself to others, as an offering to You.  (Ephesians 5:1)

I will speak peace, love, and faith over all my brothers and sisters today!  (Ephesians 6:23)

Thank You for correcting my heart when I do wrong.  I know that You discipline those You love.  (Hebrews 12:6)

I will live in harmony with others and be sympathetic, compassionate, and humble.  (1 Peter 3:8)

Above it all, I will love others deeply because love covers a multitude of sins.  (1 Peter 4:8)

I have known and believed in the love that You have for me.  You are Love and I make my life in You.  Your great love is being perfected in me day-to-day.  I will be able to have boldness in the day of judgment because I have a life of love!  1 John 4:16,17)

I won't fear!  Your love in me casts fear out!  I'm being made perfect in Your love day by day!  (1 John 4:18)

Like a Bullrush in the wind, our head is naturally bowed in times of trouble and sorrow, as if overpowered by the weight of the affliction. At the agonizing cry of our heart, The Father comes to us. And with His nail-scarred hand placed gently underneath our chin ~ He lifts our gaze up to His face ~ relieving our distress and taking the sting out of our troubles. Though I hang my head in sorrow, He will lift it up and cause me to be face to face with Him, filling my heart with joy and thanksgiving ~ that is the help of His countenance.

The Modern King James Version of Psalm 42:5 says “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: FOR I SHALL PRAISE HIM FOR THE HELP OF HIS FACE”

I love that.

Barnes Notes on the Bible says “For the help of his countenance - literally, "the salvations of his face," or his presence. The original word rendered help is in the plural number, meaning “salvationS”and the idea in the use of the plural is, that his deliverance would be completed or entire - as if double or manifold. The meaning of the phrase "help of his countenance" or "face," is that God would look favorably or benignly upon him. Favor is expressed in the Scriptures by lifting up the light of the countenance on one. (He turns His face toward us - He looks on us in love.) This closes the first part of the psalm, expressing the confident belief of the psalmist that God would yet interpose, and that his troubles would have an end…”

His face, His favor, His presence ~ changes everything. He changes everything.

He is my defender when I am defenseless, He is my Joy when I am comfortless. There is none like the God of Jeshurun, Who rides the clouds of the heavens in His majesty to come to my rescue. Line Upon Line Lesson 024: Thighs and Promises

Genesis 24:2-4 - So Abraham said to the oldest servant of his house, who ruled over all that he had, “Please, put your hand under my thigh, and I will make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell;but you shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac.”

This is an unusual Bible verse, to say the least.  Abraham’s servant had to put his hand under Abraham’s thigh to swear an oath.  What does this mean?

Let’s read together Exodus 29:22, 27; Leviticus 7:32-34; Numbers 5:21-27; and 1 Samuel 9:24.

The word thigh is only mentioned 33 times in the Bible.  The references  in the books of Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers deal mostly with the heave offering.  The priest would receive the right thigh of the sacrifice as his appointed portion.  Some scholars have speculated that the thigh represents the authority or power of the priesthood.  It is interesting to note that Samuel offered the thigh to Saul, who would become the first king of Israel.

Let’s read together Psalm 45:3; Song of Solomon 3:8;  and Revelation 19:15-16.

Revelation 19:16 mentions Jesus having His title “King of Kings and Lord of Lords” written on His robe and thigh.  However, it is very doubtful Jesus would have that title literally tattooed on his thigh.  It is more likely He has a sword on His thigh.  The sword would likely have that title written on it.  In this context, this is a reference to war, as Jesus ultimately will triumph over Satan.

Let’s read together Jeremiah 31:19 and Ezekiel 21:12.

There is a reference in the books of Jeremiah and Ezekiel to striking one’s thigh.  In context, this is an outward show of grief.

Let’s read together Genesis 24:9 and 47:29-30.

Interestingly, Israel (also known as Jacob) made the children of Israel swear an oath to him, using the same method.  Israel made them promise to take his bones out of Egypt and bury them in the promised land.

While the cultural significance of placing a hand under another person’s thigh is lost to antiquity, it is clear that it is employed for matters of great importance.  Why did Abraham make his servant swear he would look for Isaac’s bride among Abraham’s own people?  Why not from the surrounding nations?  Why limit the options for Isaac?

Let’s read together Deuteronomy 11:16;  1 Kings 11:1-8; Amos 3:3; and 2 Corinthians 6:14.

Abraham's wish for Isaac not to marry a woman from another nation, was to protect Isaac.  Abraham knew if Isaac married a woman who worshiped idols, she might lead him into idolatry also.  Abraham didn’t want to risk his son turning away from God for the sake of an unbelieving woman.

Abraham’s desire for his son to marry a woman of the same faith is relevant to us today.  If you are looking for a spouse, first seek God with all your heart.  Only then, seek for someone who is also walking with Jesus.

GOD’S PROMISES TO YOU

Psalm 37

God requires our participation in our successes, prosperity, and development, but all of these and our participation depend on Him.

God as our “Father” wants to prosper, bless, keep us healthy, and safe, provide for and do all and much more than our natural earthly fathers do, but we must believe and trust in him for that to happen.

Deuteronomy 28 tells us all about what God wants and doesn’t want for us, and the list is unexhaustive.

David was one man who knew how to not only praise God but also knew how to expect and receive from Him.

When he wrote Psalms 37, he was probably coming out of a stressful, difficult, and challenging period, but instead of focusing on the problems, he focused on his maker. Colossians 3:2 says to set our eyes on the things above which is where our salvation and help are.

There are 25 promises found in Psalms 37 only. These are promises to anyone who believes, and they should offer us confidence in reducing the effect of stress in life.

1. You will dwell in the land; verses 3 and 29.

2. You will be fed: verse 3.

3. He will give you your heart desires: verse 4.

4. He will bring things to pass in your life, verse 5.

5. He will bring righteousness to light, verse 6.

6. He will bring judgment on the wicked.

7. Evildoers will be cut off: verses 9,20,22,34, and 38.

8. He will give you the earth as an inheritance: verses 9,11,22,29, and 34.

9. He’ll give you an abundance of peace in the storm, verse 11.

10. He will uphold you; verses 17, and 24.

11. He promises eternal inheritance.

12. He promises that we will not be ashamed of evil things.

13. He will satisfy us in times of famine: verse 29.

14. You will not be cast down or fall.

15. He will never forsake you: verse 28.

16. He will preserve you forever.

17. He will cut off the seed of the wicked.

18. He will not allow your steps to slide, verse 31.

19. He will not give you over to the wicked: verse 33.

20. He will not condemn you.

21. You will have peace: verse 37.

22. He will give you salvation: verses 39-40.

23. You will have the strength for every battle.

24. He is your helper: verse 40.

25. You will be delivered from the wicked.

As believers, we must respond to the present evil days by trusting in the Lord, delighting in Him and submitting or surrendering to His sovereignty.

Verse 4 promises that He will give us the desires of our hearts, but we must first take delight in Him, which means aligning with His ways to enjoy his presence, grace, and favour.

We must learn to be still in God’s presence according to verse 7 and not be anxious about what the evil and wicked people are up to, as God promises, He will care for us, so, we won’t need to ever take matters into our hands. As reiterated in verses 18-20, God cares for us and will allow the wicked to perish because their weapons will turn against them declares verses 14-15. Trust in Go’s promises.

PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for promising me an inheritance in the land and Christ, may I never forget your promises of salvation and eternity in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Why the Jews Don't Believe in Jesus

Jesus did not fulfill the Messianic prophecies. Specifically, the Bible says he will build the Third Temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28), gather all Jews back to the Land of Israel (Isaiah 43:5-6), usher in an era of world peace and end all hatred, oppression, suffering and disease (Isaiah 2:4), and spread universal knowledge of the God of Israel which will unite humanity as one (Zechariah 14:9). All past Messianic claimants, including Jesus of Nazareth, Bar Cochba and Shabbtai Tzvi have been rejected. Jewish sources show that the Messiah will fulfill the prophecies outright; in the Bible no concept of a second coming exists.

Prophecy can only exist in Israel when the land is inhabited by a majority of world Jewry, a situation which has not existed since 300 BCE. Jesus appeared on the scene approximately 350 years after prophecy had ended, and thus could not be a prophet.

According to Jewish sources, the Messiah will be born of human parents and possess normal physical attributes like other people. He will not be a demi-god nor will he possess supernatural qualities.

The Messiah must be descended on his father's side from King David (see Genesis 49:10, Isaiah 11:1, Jeremiah 23:5, 33:17; Ezekiel 34:23-24). According to the Christian claim that Jesus was the product of a virgin birth, he had no father and thus could not have possibly fulfilled the messianic requirement of being descended on his father's side from King David.

The Messiah will lead the Jewish people to full Torah observance. The Torah states that all mitzvot remain binding forever, and anyone coming to change the Torah is immediately identified as a false prophet. (Deut. 13:1-4) Throughout the New Testament, Jesus contradicts the Torah and states that its commandments are no longer applicable.

And I will form a covenant of peace for them, an everlasting covenant shall be with them; and I will establish them and I will multiply them, and I will place My Sanctuary in their midst forever.

Ezekiel 34:23-24

And I shall put up over them one shepherd and he will shepherd them, namely My servant David; he will shepherd them, and he will be for them as a shepherd.

And I, the Lord, shall be to them for a God, and My servant David [will be] a prince in their midst; I, the Lord, have spoken.

Deuteronomy 13:1-4

Everything I command you that you shall be careful to do it. You shall neither add to it, nor subtract from it.

If there will arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of a dream, and he gives you a sign or a wonder,

and the sign or the wonder of which he spoke to you happens, [and he] says, "Let us go after other gods which you have not known, and let us worship them,"

Xians also point to Jesus fulfilling the role of the “Suffering Servant” referred to in the Old Testament in Isaiah. e.g.:

Isaiah 53:11

He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Luke 24:44-46

And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day

But anyone who has actually read Isaiah knows this suffering servant is Israel itself.

Isaiah 41:3-9

But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.

Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.

It refers to Israel in this manner repeatedly. And there is no prophecy about rising from the dead on the third day.

There are dozens of “prophecies” - “as it is written,” “as it is told” - that believers insist Jesus supposedly fulfils, which explicitly refer to other people or events. Or don’t even exist at all.

The bible Jesus can’t be the messiah. Even if were to accept the Old and New Testaments are correct.

And we have absolutely no reason to do that.
