Zaterdag 19 november 2022... gisteren aten de kinderen eindelijk nog eens een zakchips en kan ik vandaag weer een stukje verder werken aan mijn kerstster. Nog een 8 tal theelichtjes branden en dan is ze klaar.

CW // Implied Major Injury, Discussions of Death

Disclaimer: I am not a therapist and neither is Mikey despite what he might think. I do not know the answer to Donnie's question. But I do know that one should cherish the people in the their life and that your feelings are valid.
There are things I would change to this animatic, but I refuse to touch it. I created this last year in a 6 day art binge listening to a lyrical cover of Davy Jones locker on loop while my mom was in the hospital recovering from her open heart surgery.
Happy to say that one year later, she hiked upper/lower Yosemite falls, vernal and Nevada falls, plus all the little hikes with me and the fam over the weekend. :]

I have been on a bit of a kick for the last few months, setting a budget and then buying everything that caught my eye in the timeline until I hit the total every month. The goods I have received in return are blowing my mind, you guys!
The timeline is so creative and talented and amazing, I am in awe of all y'all's handskills. This post is an ENDORSEMENT of these artists, for real.
if no pics, it means I haven't quite received the order yet (but I am super looking forward to it), or I am still waiting on a frame.
in no order:
from @lunarlightforge, a great knife in a sheath whose theme goes with the Smol Gods. Due to the smallish handle size on this one, it has become MY daily carry, rather than the birthday gift I had in mind when shopping 😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media
from @hyydraworks, an adorable trio of the tiniest cows for the Smol Gods to steward. they are so very tiny and so very detailed 🐮❤️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
from @yuumei-art , a super deal on a quintuple of gorgeous prints, a couple to keep and a couple intended as gifts
from @claypigeonpottery , a fabulously glazed plate and superchill capybara little dude
Tumblr media
from @teaweltzer, a fantastically stitched pair of four-sided pyramid bags in super cute patterns and a couple of myco stickers
Tumblr media
from ruralpearl, #Angie Pickman, a super-sentimental-to-me fox print I just love
from @fruitblush , a brightly colored reminder that Palestine persists
from StellaNCWorks, a pair of nature-inspired small dishes for various desktop goods
Tumblr media Tumblr media
from @creations-by-chaosfay , a super bright set of miniature quilts (coasters)
from @littlebirdinagarden , the warmest soothingest saturated hand-dyed colorway to ever match its name, Moth Orchid
Tumblr media Tumblr media
from @robinsceramics, a couple of little guys to add to what I guess is gonna be an ongoing pottery collection? I love them so much already; chinchilla is so fren shaped!

What if… I process all my emotions… through fiber arts?
There are a multitude of dimensions that make various mediums ideal for therapy.
They tend to be low-demand for attention while requiring movement and repetition, so you can think and track how present you are by your speed and progress.
Needlework like embroidery and sewing require focus to avoid pricks, which can also be grounding if you can work with pain in a controlled manner.
Plus embroidery can be done on most mass-produced clothing, so you can do it with the clothes on your back with some floss (embroidery floss) or thread and a needle— we embroider our sleeves and tuck the needle diagonally into our ring when we’re not using it.
Some yarns can be crocheted or knit into fabric with just your fingers. Crochet hooks are similar in size to a pencil, and you can pause by closing the last loop you worked on and starting a new strand next loop.
Beadwork is so nice to touch. Embroidery, weaving, knotwork and jewelry. It’s not so easily portable, but it’s easy to make pretty without much technique.
Have you ever made your own rope or yarn? That’s gratifying, starting from plants and animals and ending up with netting and blankets.
And it is the fondness of making, turning one thing into another into another. Create and tailor your clothes, never have to figure out recycling fabrics, save money patching and reusing.

I've talked before about how for me some emotions don't really have an "off switch", particularly anger and sadness. Turns out that's probably an ADHD thing, because emotional regulation is an executive function, and working on that is what convinced me to take another swing at therapy. I told my therapist in our first session that when I get upset I tend to just sit and stew; I know all the tips'n'tricks for altering one's mood, but some don't work and others would require me to get off the sofa, which feels herculean when you are sitting on the sofa and stewing.
She advised I set an alarm for a time I'm going to get up and go do something, which does help, but I knew that if I couldn't come up with stuff to do once I was up I'd just say "ah fuck it". So I made a list to consult when I'm not feeling like doing anything. Most of it still doesn't appeal much, but I've found that if the thing I'm doing is somehow fixing something, I'm more likely to find it satisfying or at least achievable.
I have a bunch of scraps of cross stitch fabric left over from trimming finished products, and I've been stitching them together, a sort of textile kintsugi. It requires just enough focus to distract, but no counting or pattern consulting, and I can put on a podcast while I do it, plus I can do it from the sofa. I think also I might be better at doing actual cross stitch with the pieces, because my brain will still count that as mending the fabric. I'm not really sure how well it's working because it seems like I do the thing for half an hour and then go back to sulking, but it's a start. And Dearborn approves because she get to spend the whole time in my lap, watching the embroidery floss carefully and waiting to pounce.
[ID: A photograph of Dearborn the Tortie, lying on the second best quilt; lying on top of her are two narrow strips of black cross-stitch aida fabric, which have been stitched together at one overlapping edge with yellow thread.]

New series of papertoys based on TV-series “Our Flag Means Death”.
It was my first ever papercraft commission.
I was asked to create templates for main characters from the series by a fan, who wanted to give something back to the fandom that helped them to STAY SANE during tumultuous years of 2022-2023. OFMD series and vast amount of fanworks remained a safe harbour amidst wars and hardships for A.K and I was honoured to be chosen to contribute on their behalf.
We both hope that these paper figures of Stede and Ed will make you happy.
We start with gentleman pirate Stede Bonnet (as played by Rhys Darby) in his fancy suit from 1st season of “Our Flag Means Death”.

Ed "Blackbeard" Teach will be posted in a few days.
