• falling; never broken — yibo has bulimia (please, be aware of the trigger warnings) and xiao zhan’s a doctor who helps him.
• a best friend and a lover — xiao zhan goes on different dates with different versions of wang yibo to look for a ‘type’. they’re both stupidly in love, your honour.
• darling you, play it cool — yizhan bodyswap au where only wang yibo’s famous though. i wrote this in 2023 and i’m the most proud of it.
• sleep tight until the moonlight — yizhan enemies to lovers where both of them spend their time being radio hosts in university :)
• whispering through dusty aisles — my au where xiao zhan’s a literary deity and yibo’s still famous, they meet occasionally and sparks fly. it’s my most poetic creation.
Tumblr media
everyone, please remember this is my opinion! of course, there a lot of other works — famous or not — who aren’t in here. if you want to check out more recs of mine, see my bookmarks! thank you :)

"Lan Wangji has a carefully crafted morning routine, he wakes at 5, makes his breakfast, goes for a run, returns home and showers, spends some time looking after his rabbits, and then heads to work to get to the shop for 7 sharp to start caring for the plants and be ready to open for customers at 8am.
His evenings vary slightly, coming home after closing up the shop and allowing the rabbits to roam his apartment, cooking dinner for himself and on occasion eating with his brother or friends, and then otherwise winding down by meditating or reading until it is time to shower and prepare for sleep.
His only other indulgence is his music, playing his guqin or composing songs to send out to his friends for their various projects.
He rarely deviates, doesn't have a reason to, his life is full no matter what his brother says.
He isn't lonely."
An excerpt from chapter 1 of the adorable fic "Love in Bloom" by the lovely KikiDoesFanfic. I had the absolute pleasure of getting to draw this piece as a part of the WIP BIG Bang. I think my absolute favorite part of it was Lan Wangji's soft pining. He cooks for Wei Wuxian ya'll! He does all the little things that shows he cares. We have all these intimate little moments around family and food. If you love fluff, seeing Wangxian's burgeoning romance in a modern AU, single father Wei Wuxian and smitten florist Lan Wangji, tattooed hottie NMJ with a swooning LXC on the side then you gotta check out their fic!! To be finished soon!

💙The Path
By:Seastar98
Summary:
Some fates are set in stone. Others are written in sand. No one can know which they have until they try to change them.
Nie Huaisang decides to do something about Wei Wuxian's exile. Maybe his path is set, but the least he can do is try, right?
Chapter:32/32
Words:279,460
Status:completed
It was incredible to watch. Even with their eyes closed, they had such an awareness of each other they could move in unison. Their senses were so well-tuned they could sense attacks coming through the hallucinations, yet somehow, they evenly divided the attacks between them, never aiming for the same chain set. “There might be something to that soulmate business,” Someone muttered. Jiang Cheng glared in their general direction. He could fight like that with Wei Wuxian, but he’d been raised and trained with Wei Wuxian. Over a decade of being together gave them the knowledge to be in sync in a fight. Maybe not while blind. Maybe not now that he had Zidian and Wei Wuxian had Chenqing. But they were brothers. They had each others’ backs. Wei Wuxian and Hanguang-Jun, at that point, knew each other for months. Most of that time was spent in a classroom or the library. If they fought, it was against the other. Even against the Waterborne Abyss, there wasn’t that much actual fighting. They didn’t train for this, yet being together just seemed so natural. Destined. He was growing to hate that word
~~
Wei Wuxian once again shared a look with Lan Wangji. Nie Huaisang threw a nut at him. Lan Wangji caught it easily, then looked at him oddly. The smaller man rolled his eyes, “I’m starting to hate when you and Wei-xiong do that.” Do what? Look at each other? “It is annoying,” Jiang Wanyin agreed. It wasn’t his fault they used to communicate so easily. All it took was a look, and Wei Ying seemed to understand more than he could ever convey with his words. That didn’t last forever. No, when he started cultivating with resentful energy, looking at each other no longer worked. There was dissonance where there was once harmony. And he didn’t have the words to make up for it
~~
“So…” Nie Huaisang shifted in his seat, “Last time Wei-xiong and Hanguang-Jun were alone in a cave together they got married.” Lan Wangji narrowed his eyes at the devious young man. Nie Huaisang had always been on the periphery of his life. He’d never given him reason to focus on him before. Even now, having confirmed that he was more than he appeared to be...it didn’t bother him. Nie Huaisang still loved his brother, and Nie Mingjue would always be an honorable man. “Not married,” Uncle corrected, his voice tight. “Engaged then,” Nie Huaisang fluttered his fan, likely hiding a mischievous grin, “Are you telling me you spent a week in a cave together and nothing happened?” Lan Wangji recognized the provocation, but he couldn’t stop himself from blushing. He had debated with himself for hours how much of his time with Wei Ying he would show. He eventually decided he should stake a public claim on him. Let everyone in this room know just how dedicated he was to the love of his life. They might not understand it yet. They might still think he hardened his heart when Wei Ying turned to demonic cultivation, but they would see soon that Wei Ying really didn’t change much. They would never respect a demonic cultivator, but they did respect him. Their fear of the Yiling Patriarch would one day lead them to action. Their fear of Hanguang-Jun...perhaps that would be enough. He'd make it enough. Xichen choked on his tea, “Something happened?” “You were both injured,” Jiang Wanyin frowned. Jin Zixuan flushed, “I thought Lans were romantic.” “Oh, it doesn’t have to be romantic, Jin-xiong,” Nie Huaisang fanned himself, “Wei-xiong wouldn’t want to die a virgin.” “Huaisang,” Nie Mingjue warned. “Virgin?” Lan Wangji echoed, unsure if he wanted to know the answer or was jealous that Nie Huaisang would know this answer. “You really need to work on your jealousy,” Nie Huaisang laughed, “What? We can share porn but not our own experiences?” “Experiences,” Lan Wangji repeated again. He knew it was likely a joke, that Nie Huaisang was using this conversation to ease the tension in the room or some other reason he didn’t care for. They were on the same side so long as Wei Ying wasn’t disposable to him. “Relax, Wangji-xiong,” Nie Huaisang lowered his fan to show his grin, “Wei-xiong’s never even kissed anyone. He’s all talk.” Lan Wangji barely stopped his mouth from twitching into a pleased smile. His brother just kept coughing. Jin Guangyao patted his back, “You don’t have to look so pleased with that.” He wouldn’t love Wei Ying less if he wasn’t his first, but he couldn’t deny how satisfying it would be to be each other's one and only
~~
“If not now, when?” Jiang Cheng retorted, “I’ve already had enough of you. Get lost!” Get lost. Jiang Cheng almost laughed at the cruel irony of his words. He kept telling Wei Wuxian to get lost, and then he was lost to them. For three months physically, for far longer in reality. They lost the old Wei Wuxian. He hung his head, ready to receive his sister’s disappointment. She wouldn’t get angry. She never got angry at him, and she especially wouldn’t hold his actions while he was grieving against him. So she would be disappointed, and it would hurt a thousand times worse than if she just struck him as he’d struck Wei Wuxian. Jiang Cheng told him to get lost, and he did. He should have been careful what he wished for. He hadn’t been prepared to get it.
~~
Wei Wuxian didn’t fight back, though he did weakly grab at Jiang Cheng’s hands as the younger continued shouting, “You should’ve just let Lan Wangji and Jin Zixuan die. Why should we care about their lives? Just let them die. Why did you stand up for them? Now, Yunmeng has been destroyed. My parents are gone. You are happy, aren’t you? Why?” “How dare you!” Lan Wangji would have risen if his brother hadn’t grabbed his shoulder. He would have attacked if his brother hadn’t taken his sword. He still could summon Bichen and send it across the room, but Jiang Yanli had tugged her brother closer. There were still tears in her eyes from the sight of one brother choking the other out, and in that moment, he couldn’t bear to cause her anymore pain. “How dare he what?” Nie Huaisang demanded, “Repeat the mistakes of his parents?” Xichen’s grip weakened in shock, and Lan Wangji turned his attention to the smaller man, “Aren’t all of us doing the same?” Nie Mingjue flinched, as did Lianfeng-Zun and Jin Zixuan. Lan Wangji barely kept himself from outwardly reacting. The words struck too close to his heart. He was too close to making the same mistake as his father. He was tempted to hide Wei Wuxian away in Gusu and then seclude himself from the world as punishment. As long as Wei Wuxian was safe, he would happily do so.
~~
Lan Wangji had heard a number of Wei Ying’s cries. There was his shout of terror when facing the beast in the Wen Sect’s dungeon. There was his shout of surprise when Nie Huaisang snuck up on him. But the only cry of pain he’d heard was when he was a child. He hadn’t let out a noise when he was hurt by Wen Chao. He only whined to get pity when he was branded. Even facing the Xuanwu, where he was exhausted, he was largely silent. It was new to hear him cry out in agony. Which only proved how much pain he was in. “Jiang Wanyin doesn’t deserve this,” Lan Wangji said. “He does in Wei Wuxian’s eyes,” His brother replied. Wei Ying had terrible judgment then. But he would have to respect his sacrifice. It was too late to change it. “Wangji,” His brother pressed his sleeve to his cheek. When he drew back, Lan Wangji could see it was wet. He didn’t bother to hide his tears. Wei Ying deserved so much more than his tears.
~~
Wei Ying loves me,” Wangji replied. “Oh,” Xichen sighed. “It was obvious,” Lianfeng-Zun commented under his breath. Lan Qiren didn’t agree, but there was such certainty in his nephews that he doubted his own instinct. It would be impossible to dissuade Wangji from this course of action now that he knew his feelings were returned. He mentally calculated how quickly they could pull together a wedding and hoped that time was enough to prevent them from eloping. Wei Wuxian was shameless and unrestrained, but he wasn’t evil. He made Wangji happy. “Then you have my blessing,” Lan Qiren said, unable to keep some bitterness out. It would be a difficult conversation with the elders. He wouldn’t let Wei Wuxian be treated like his brother’s wife, and while the disciples here perked up at his quiet words and spread them back cheerfully, there would be some resistance to integration. Even if he said it was rehabilitation. “You can present him with a ribbon after this,” Xichen permitted. “Two,” Wangji replied. “Two ribbons?” The elder of the two frowned. “Hm,” Wangji blushed slightly, “For Wei Ying and our son.” Lan Qiren closed his eyes and took a deep breath. If Wangji had met the child, and the Jiang siblings made no mention of a child, then it had to be a Wen child. A Wen child currently living in the Burial Mounds, who had been liberated from a Jin Sect labor camp. A child Lan Qiren wouldn’t have believed existed until yesterday. He released the breath slowly. His grandnephew and heir to GusuLan was living in the Burial Mounds. Being raised by Wei Wuxian no less!
~~
Such foolishness! How could they have been so mistaken? They thought Hanguang-Jun disapproved of Wei Wuxian’s cultivation style out of his inherent righteousness! They never thought it would be anger born from worry, or that the worry came from love. This wasn’t a battle between a righteous hero and a wicked villain. This was as Nie Huaisang said earlier. A lover’s quarrel.
~~
Lan Zhan cut the association,” Wei Wuxian corrected, “I didn’t.” If Wangji were holding anything in his hands, he would have crushed it. Lan Qiren almost wanted to crush something himself. It was frustrating to watch, and every misunderstanding was just another knot to detangle later. The only bright side was that Wangji had his work cut out for him convincing Wei Wuxian he didn’t hate him. That meant the danger of elopement was far lower. Wei Wuxian was stubborn like that.
~~🤣🤣
What justice?” Jin Guangshan narrowed his eyes, “Will children decide my punishment?” “If they must,” Hanguang-Jun rose and swiftly pulled out his sword, “Shall I use Inquiry to ask the children killed at Qiongqi what they think?” “You dare!” Jin Guangshan yelled. “I do,” Hanguang-Jun stepped closer, “Submit yourself to justice.” It wasn’t a request this time. As always, there was a weight to Hanguang-Jun’s words that no one else could achieve. The Jin Sect framed Wei Wuxian and sent them into exile. The Jin Sect separated Hanguang-Jun from the love of his life. There may be an argument in there about bias in judgment, but Jin Guangshan wisely swallowed it back.

WANGXIAN
love, in fire and blood by cicer
(https://archiveofourown.org/works/26958667/chapters/65798227)
Summary:
"You want Wen Ruohan dead," the Patriarch continued idly. "You want his corpse puppets eliminated. You want his halls burned to the ground and his soldiers disemboweled and begging for mercy. Have I about covered it?" He gave another knife-edged smile. "But what will you give me in return?" "We would be willing to offer quite a bit in return for Wen Ruohan's defeat," Lan Xichen admitted. "But I'm afraid we don't know what an immortal such as yourself desires. Please advise us." The Patriarch waved at hand at the front of the tent. "I want Second Young Master Lan." (In which the Sunshot Campaign ends through an arranged marriage to the Yiling Patriarch, and Lan Wangji suffers the mortifying ordeal of falling in love with his own husband.)
. . .
Thoughts:
I am forever buried deep in the mdzs/cql wangxian fandom. I've lost count of just how many times I've read the book (currently rereading them as I buy the physical copies) and how many times I've watched The Untamed. So turning to fanfic was just natural for me, lol. Also read a ton of those and this one is just SO GOOD!
This one is an AU-cannon divergence, political scheming, arranged marriage, SLOW BURN and a tad miscommunication (which I usually steer clear of, but in this one it just worked) AND THE PINING!!
I've read this one several times and will continue to do so.

The year is finished, so it is time to look back and go through the best AO3 treasures I found these last 12 months!! And since XueXiao has been the bane of my existence ever since i discovered it, I decided to make a top 10 list of them!
So these are (in no particular order) my favourite (song)xuexiao fics:
- the backyard is full of bones by @veliseraptor  A thoroughly enjoyable what-if with Xiao Xingchen being a bit smarter about the wounded man he found. Extremely well paced and written, it eases into the enemies-to-lovers dynamic perfectly, and it depicts characters so believable and well-rounded that it practically feels like canon.
- I promised you a garden by @lady-of-the-lotus  A short snippet into an alternate timeline where Song Lan’s consciousness is trapped in a paperman and forced to bear witness to the yizhuang’s (very sexy) domestic life. Cute and frustrating and very, very satisfying. (One of those where Song Lan’s not having a good time, which might be one of my favourite tags).
- Now that I see you by @10holmes  Don’t usually go with unfinished projects, but this one is an absolute treasure which’d need to work very hard to go awry, so of course I’ll have it here. We have a double canon divergence with Not Blind!Xiao Xingchen, and Amnesiac!Xue Yang!! Which make for a delightfully angsty relationship as they both tiptoe around each other, all while battling with internal turmoil, conflicting morals and a misplaced low sense of worth. A fic absolutely worth keeping track of.
- The prisoner of Jinlintai by @fieri-sentio-et-excrucior  A rather recent project that had us in tethers for a month and a half (!) with the very sexy prompt of Xiao Xingchen being framed and arrested by the Jin, while a certain guest disciple with a sweet tooth was still around... Another enemies-to-lovers with a wonderfully natural evolution in their relationship, with the extra treat of a rich and entertaining world building that could easily sprout a few spin-offs.
- Nothing but a way of shading blood by @veilchenjaeger  This one is very recent, but it shoot up to my top 10 immediately, both for the marvelous writing style and the perfect way they executed the prompt. It provides just the right amount of anguish in Xiao Xingchen, before and after certain discoveries are made, and the diplomacy game with Jin Guangyao and his minion just adds an extra flavour in an already spicy mix.
- Heaven has a road but no one walks it by @silvysartfulness  The second (and last) ongoing project here, but just as deserving of the spot. This book-sized treasure is a long journey of (re)discovery, of a slowly kindling relationship with wonderful twists and turns. The slow pace balances out perfectly with some intense (and, in one occasion, thriller-like) action scenes. Also, it was the fic that made me see SongXueXiao with a more favourable opinion.
- lie back and let me unlock you by @veliseraptor  A short and extremely sexy xuexiao roll in the hay, with the amazing prompt of Xiao Xingchen being (quite shamefully) aroused at the thought of his old enemy Xue Yang, and good ol’ Chengmei offering to rolplay. The result is even more unbelievable that what you can imagine!
- On the topic of cold by @andreri25  A cute little snippet in the early days at Yi City, where Xiao Xingchen almost dies from hypothermia and Xue Yang has to keep him warm. So what if he takes advantatge? Daozhang won’t remember, and he does need some hot friction after all! It’s wicked and cute in equal parts, because Xue Yang starts off really concerned (even if he wouldn’t admit it or know why, really) but changes gears when the danger is over...
- Final victory by @fieri-sentio-et-excrucior  A funny concept very well executed, particularly in the emotional response both Xiao Xingchen and Xue Yang give at the different turns of the plot. Daozhang discovers that his old enemy is in town, killing people, and after recovering from the surprise, Chengmei offers his help to hunt him down. Cue some well-placed deceit and a cruelly cute happy ending.
- it hurts at first (but it ain’t that bad) by @veliseraptor  Yet another change in dynamics with Xiao Xingchen discovering his mysterious friend’s identity, if only this time because Xue Yang flat-out tells him (well, he thought he was done for anyways). What follows is a wonderful deluge of arguments, moral dilemmas and Xue Yang’s particular brand of twisted social logic that allow a deeper (and less deadly) reprise of their last canon conversation. Just lovely.
Which one of those I like best? I don’t know. I don’t care! They are all fantastic.
AND, since this year was also the first I started actually writing some original content, and not only devouring other artists amazing works, lemme put them here as well >w<
- Phantom Threat  The foregone conclusion of all the fix-its that have xuexiao become an item (sans hidden identities, that is), in which Song Lan arrives at Yi City and does what he should have done in canon and talks directly with Xiao Xingchen, to reveal the terrible secret... which he already knows about.
- To carry a bit of yesterday  A small slice of life in the Three Year Bliss, where Xiao Xingchen wants a family portrait and despite being quite contrary to the idea, both a-Qing and Xue Yang end up complying. It has amazing art by @wrathyforest, too!! ^-^
Tumblr media
AND FINALLY, just a few non-xuexiao fics I also loved to the moon and back, but have little-to-no connection other than belonging to the mxtx universe.
- You’re stuck with me by LikeAFlamingKiss_Consume  A delightful jadecest with dark!Lan Xichen (well, dark!Everyone and their mother, it’s a fucked up AU) and a reluctantly horny Lan Zhan.
- Blood array by @giraffeter  Though it could technically be a xuexiao fic, the actual fucking here is between Demonic Gremlin Team Extraordinaire! Xue Yang and Wei Wuxian, sooo... doesn’t count. The fic is entertaining, very sexy and their interaction is marvelous to follow!
- Despite warning signs by @extrapenguin  A surprisingly cute and light-hearted Xue Yang/Mo Xuanyu little treat, from their days as Jin disciples. A happier alternative reality for both of them, with fluff and smut in equal parts, which never fails to make me smile.
- Qi Rong’s day off by @ahintofblue  Too bad the only tgcf fic to make the cut is a very, very nsfw alternate outcome of the mausoleum scene from book 2, but what can I do? The writing’s so smooth and engaging, it’s rough and cruel and I loved every single minute of it.
I have the gnawing feeling I’m still forgetting something, either here or in the xuexiao part... but until I discover the way to check which fics I left kudos in, I either go through an ocean of titles from my ao3 history page (that won’t even let me filter!!!) or I just wait for my two braincells to click one day. Oh, well!
Thanks for reading, and to all writers, THANKS FOR WRITING!!! I love you all. Have a happy new year!

Just hear me out. Like something's cooking and I CANT sleep on it.
Lan WangJi, pristine and all-too-powerful, lives on an island that is secluded from all the worldly continents and problems, so secluded that The Island isn't even on the map. Nobody can find that Island unless summoned through the Magic. He lives on that Island with the Lan clan, their strict rules and overly trained habits. And obviously, LWJ is the perfect example for all of it. One of the most important Rule being that anyone who leaves the Island cannot return to it.
But there is this mega important prophecy about a 'war that will end all wars' and that keeps triggering LWJ with nightmares and whispers.
Enter, Wei WuXian.
A spy from a country fighting in the active World War, who was about to drown due to his plane crash and die but somehow passed through The Magic (or maybe The Magic purposely let him through) and witness being saved by LWJ and reach the island. WWX witnesses all these stoic and extremely gorgeous men that are definitely not from the Real World cuz instead of Guns and Bombs, Lan clan fight with Swords and Arrows. He is kept in trial where he reveals (much too painfully) about his journey and what's going on in the Real World.
WWX obviously tries to escape to save the Real world but 'always follow the right conscience' LWJ won't let him do it alone and so he steals the 'God Killer Weapon' and follows WWX much to his Uncle's disappointment and his Brother's despair [but Lan Huan being low-key proud that his little brother is following his heart:')]
Bring in LWJ innocence and WWX teasing, The War raging and LWJ being undefeatable, their sexual effing tension in the Enemy's (The Wens) Ball to which they had gone undercover, WWX's team of 4 [JC >:/, NHS >:), WN 0:) and WQ :)] and obviously himself and LWJ against all Bombs, Guns, Poisonous gas the world has to offer.
Cut to WWX's ultimate sacrifice to save the day so that LWJ can save the future and LWJ going through the agony of watching the Love of His Life's death [exploding like a dying star:'((]and being so shattered and un-consolable that in that very moment he literally Transforms into an un-killable God.
Yes, that's DC's Wonder Woman but God it fit so perfectly into MDZS character arc that I just couldn't help it.

Teen!Wangxian Fic Rec List
As I'm currently working on high school AU wangxian fic inspired by To All The Boys I Loved Before, it got me digging through ao3 to look for canonverse teen romantic comedies so I can nail down some characterization stuff. All of the following fics take place during the Cloud Recesses Arc and are incredibly hilarious, fluffy, and awkward. Hope you enjoy:
it's just (aah) a little crush (crush!) by @sweetlolixo: ~10k words. Lan Wangji starts courting Wei Wuxian after overhearing him bluff to his friends that he has a crush on Lan Wangji. Hilarity and miscommunication ensue.
Five Minutes in the Closet with You by @danegen: ~5k words. Nie Huaisang invents Truth or Dare and shoves Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji into a closet, Seven-Minutes-in-Heaven-style.
Orchids in Lotus Pier by @vamillepudding: ~22k words. Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng accidentally become friends. Wei Wuxian, an idiot sandwich, thinks the two of them are in love and is very upset about it.
Wangxian are Married and Have a Son (But Not Necessarily in That Order) by @mercyandmagic: ~25k words. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji try to hide their teen pregnancy without accidentally outing Wei Wuxian's trans identity and their secret relationship. Use protection, kids.
If you have other hilarious teen!wangxian fics that you love, please drop them below. I'm always looking for more!

Hello fellow Untamed lovers, I am desperately trying to find a fic I read many months ago and I need to reread it (for my health at this point really).
I know it was post canon, lwj was chief cultivator and wwx was on his post cql travels. Wwx comes back to gusu because he’s sick, he keeps losing track of time like disassociated and “sleeping ” but awake he just can’t remember. And when he “wakes up” he doesn’t remember where he is. It’s not a curse and it’s not a terminal sickness ((at one point wwx thinks it’s mxy’s body giving up on him but that’s not the case)).
Eventually they write to lotus pier and jc tells wwx it’s like a trauma response and the same thing happened to him and he has to work on his past to get through it.
I LOVED IT so much but I can’t find it for the life of me. Please help!! I’ll give you twice the amount of Lan Zhan pics 🥹
EDIT: I FOUND IT !!!!

💙What If..... Jiang Cheng Understood?
By:ToxicAngel13
Summary:
It didn't take a genius to realize just what had happened in the time that Wei Wuxian was gone. Not with that damn ribbon on his wrist and Jiang Cheng was not going to let his brother be taken advantage of!
Or a tale in which one insight sparks a world of change.
Chapter:18/?
Words:65,501
Status:ongoing
Jiang Cheng would rather have his brother married and away from their Sect then doomed to feel his mother whip any day. That being said his influence in this situation was about to become limited. Should his father disappoint him, and the Lan's prove to be the better option Jiang Cheng's lips may have to loosen even more then they already had. Any ramifications for the things that would pass said lips would be his to bear, but he was fine with that. He had stood by while his punishments we're taken out of his brother's hide long enough.
~~
Lan Wangji was insistent that he took responsibility for the outcome of his decision, he had declared that much after his Uncle had explained why Fengmian had been called here. There could be no mistaking his intent on just how this would end. Cold Golden eyes bore into Fengmian, daring him to dismiss the claim that the younger man held on Wei Wuxian even as his Uncle and Acting Sect Leader tried to speak in diplomatic tones of how they could proceed from here. Lan Qiren spoke of treating the incident as a betrothal, of entering marriage talks and it was all that Fengmian could do to keep the bubbling hysteria buried in his chest. He didn't think that laughing would endure him to the Sect that was offering to make this marriage as honorable as it could be given how it was initiated without anyone's permission. ZiYuan would never consent to this union happening peacefully and she would have his head if he allowed it without her input. She would see Wei Wuxian dead before allowing him to marry into nobility, marry outside of her reach and gain the respect she had made sure he was denied in their Sect. Fengmian knew this much, even if he didn't want to admit it. For all that his wife hated the boy who was kneeling by the man who had taken advantage of his lack of knowledge of the Lan's ribbon she was not blind to his potential. Like Fengmian she was greedy. Wei Wuxian was talented, and that talent belonged solely to the Jiang Sect.
The best way to deal with this was to gracefully let the Lan Sect shed the obligations that its second heir had committed them to and get Wei Wuxian to agree to go home without a fuss. Then… then Fengmian would have more decisions to make. ZiYuan might actually end up killing the boy for this still, once she was made aware of it and that would be hard to hide or even explain if eyes stayed on them. If Wei Ying was drawing the attention of nobles onto his person then it would prove that he was just like his mother in her eyes, and that would be the last straw for her. Wtf he talk about wei Ying’s death like its nothing (*`Д´)ノ!!!
~~~
Unfortunately, that wasn't the only sign that things were not going to happen the way that he wished they would. Fengmian saw the challenging Golden Eyes of the younger man who was at fault for all of this narrow when he dared glance in his direction. The kneeling figure didn't look relieved at the offer to forgive him for his actions at all. He turned his eyes to his ward next and saw A-Xian's form sag as the moments slipped by and his declaration faded from the air. The older man didn't know if it was in relief, disappointment or dread and he didn't want to guess. If Wuxian had feelings for the man who had attempted to bind him in marriage it would only mean heartbreak after all, because this marriage couldn't happen without embarrassing the Jiang Sect when it revealed things best left hidden. Then, before the visiting Sect Leader's eyes Lan Wangji reached over and grabbed Wei Wuxian's hand firmly. It was the first clear act of open rebellion since Fengmian had entered the room, and as good as a verbal declaration that the Second Heir would not let his claim go quietly.
"You are incorrect. The rite was not just initiated. Our union was blessed by Lan Yi's spiritual cognition and we bowed to her. It is completed, and I have taken responsibility for the fact that happened while Wei Ying was unaware. You will discuss what the Jiang Sect requires for this union to be honored fully with my Uncle but you will not take my husband from Gusu." The impudent heir declared just as bluntly as the denial of their union had been delivered. Then Lan Wangji went one step further, ignoring the sudden tension in the room as he tugged Wuxian's arm towards his body. Fengmian watched, unable to say anything, as his nephew's slight form easily followed the pull towards the man who had declared them married, even as the teen's head shot up in surprise. ~~
"If my mother comes to join the talks father is going to be having then make sure to keep her the hell away from the idiot. She will see him dead for daring to rise above the station that she's set for him. If you doubt me then just have your healers look at the scars on his back. I'll pass on breaking your legs for bowing while tied with that damn ribbon if you keep the idiot happy and in one piece though." A-Cheng informed the room bluntly. Every single person in the room stiffened at the declaration as Fengmian felt his heart stop. He didn't dare look away from his son, knowing that the gazes he would meet would not be kind. For once in his life Fengmian wished that his son was more like his mother. He wished the boy was more possessive of his sect brother and the talent that he held.
~
"Don't exaggerate A-Cheng, you know that isn't true. Your mother will be upset at the scandal of such a rushed and under negotiated marriage, but A-Xian's life is not in danger from her." He finally scolded, trying to keep the tightness that wanted to steal his words out of his tone. Cheng looked at him in disbelief before shaking his head. "I gave you the chance to show that you give a damn about what Mother does to him, but you just dismissed a valid chance to get him the hell out of our sect and away from Zidan's reach. In fact you intended to bring him back with you, knowing damn well that Mother will be more than just upset at the fact that my brother was tricked into a marriage rite. I am not just going to brush off whatever will happen to him out of sight like you have since you dragged him off the streets." Jiang Cheng shot back, his spine stiff as he glared at Fengmian as if to put him in his place. The Jiang Sect leader felt like he was going to get sick. This was it, he knew his child well enough to know that Wanyin wasn't going to back down or retract his words and denying it would get Fengmian nowhere but deeper into a hole of his own making. A throat was cleared and Fengmian's eyes went to the source without his permission.
Lan Qiren looked like he could spit fire, and sometime during Fengmian's talk with his son he had positioned himself in front of Wei Wuxian and his nephew. He was clearly ready to defend them. To defend Wei Wuxian.
