A friend once told me, Miracle, you would take over the world, and I responded by saying the greatest take over isn't the world take over but self take over.

Self-leadership means taking over myself by myself without the influence of another person. Life itself would give more room to take over others but it always begins with self.

In a nutshell, the definition of leadership is mastery over self than being a master over others. One of the greatest leadership projects is oneself not others.

Nobody can truly take over the world without first taking over themselves. We only met the world here and we would leave it. We only use this world in being and knowing ourselves but some people have allowed it to define them.

Some Leaders have lost control of themselves by trying to have control over others.

It has been wonderful to see many people use Pride celebrations as a place to demonstrate, advocate, and organize against the attacks on our communities. The actions of the Supreme Court remind us that being civically engaged is not something that you can do once and be done with – it must be a constant practice. Voting in every election, in every race, from the top of the ballot to the bottom. We are lucky in Washington to have ballots mailed directly to us several weeks before they need to be returned. Do your research – learn about candidates and issues. Talk to friends, colleagues, and community organizations, or just do an online search. Local elected positions can have a surprisingly strong influence on your life. Municipal judges can rise to become federal judges. Never stop using your right to vote! And, of course, never stop fighting to make sure that everyone has safe access to vote in their communities. You can check out the August primary ballot online and update your registration if you have recently moved at https://voter.votewa.gov/. "

One of my favorite phrases was “That’s just who I am”

I used it for EVERYTHING.

👉🏼 To be mean to people 👉🏼 To get drunk out of my mind 👉🏼 To have bad customer service 👉🏼 To eat like shit 👉🏼 To be treated badly by my family

And I’ll never forget the turning point that made me stop using that excuse.

I was in a mood where I was preemptively judging as a defense mechanism, because I didn’t want people to see me. I wanted them to see the other person first.

And I was MEAN.

(My mom used to say I could make you wish you’d never been born.)

My husband (then boyfriend) told me to “knock it off.”

I just replied, “You know this is just how I am.”

He just looked and said to me,

“Well it’s fucking disgusting.”

There it was.

All it took was someone who really loved me to challenge my way of thinking.

To have me see what I *really* looked like to the outside world.

But even so, the choice was mine.

Just as is the choice is always yours.

Your desire to change ALWAYS has to be greater than your desire to stay in your comfort zone.

We’re built to sit in our comfort zone. Our safety.

But change - the real magic - happens when you’re courageous enough to step into creating that new life you desire.

For me, it started as one where I was respected as much as I actually sought out to be. Not out of fear. But out of expertise.
