idia/vil is such a sweet and interesting ship to me and does not deserve to be a rarepair i'm serious. this might end up a bit incoherent and disorganized because i'm not great with words, but listen. the thing is that while on a surface level idia shroud and vil schoenheit--a nerdy shut-in with anxiety who likes to game all day and a mega famous celebrity who's strict about self-improvement--might seem completely incompatible, their actual interactions show us that that just isn't true!!

like, for example idia's starsending robes vignette is a big one!! the way that vil sees idia trying to hide when he's supposed to be at the ceremony, and idia says he's terrified that people will make fun of him, that he's not like vil and can't just go out and not care what anyone think the way he does. and then vil... tells him he's wrong, that it's the opposite, that he cares so much what other people think but has enough of a grip on himself that he can ignore it and appear confidently in public. the way vil admits to idia that they are so much more alike that he thinks.

also, the way that (in this fan translation at least, as well as in other TLs i've seen--the localization translates it to have the complete opposite meaning, for whatever reason) idia then says "so in other words, you've got to level up your ignore skill", and instead of getting annoyed at him for translating his advice into video game terms vil just says "isn't that obvious?". he's going out of his way to try and give idia genuine advice and is willing to speak his language to get him to understand it. he even does a similar thing later on in book 6, when he tells idia that it's worth taking chances because after all, the star rogue protagonist took his chances and went from zero to a hero.

and on that note, book 6 is so good for them. book 6 has idia get all excited and carried away while infodumping about star rogue, only to abruptly lose his enthusiasm and start talking quietly and stuttering. and who is it that tells him he shouldn't act so embarrassed and that they weren't judging him? it's none other than vil. vil who also shows an interest in gaming, much to the surprise of idia who believed, in his own words, that a "sparkly, gorgeous supermodel" like vil couldn't possibly like any of the same things as him! but no, vil wanted to try out the games they had and vil expressed a desire for idia to talk about his passions without fear of being judged. vil enjoyed playing star rogue and he was glad to discuss the movie adaptation with idia and ortho.

it's also vil who, when idia expresses his disappointment at the star rogue sequel being canceled and his wish for the original team to get back together and create a sequel that would be made with passion behind it, is the only one to genuinely understand where he's coming from (as opposed to jamil who's like "is it really that complicated?" and leona who suggests that he just throw money at the creators). vil is the one who encourages him to take a chance at doing what he can to make that wish a reality, to let the original team know that there's a passionate and loyal fanbase waiting for a sequel, and tells him that he just generally shouldn't give up on changing his future and achieving his dreams before he's even tried. of course ortho heard this advice too and took it very much the wrong way, but vil showed a surprising amount of understanding and support for idia and i feel like it was exactly the kind of thing he needed to hear.

also. remember the scene in disney's hercules where hercules temporarily gives up his godhood and his youth by diving into the underworld to save megara? because vil literally did the same thing to save idia. yeah, he may say he only did it for plot reasons, but like come on, how am i supposed to just not ship them after they parallel one of my favorite disney couples like that? vil is a world famous actor and model who was terrified of aging, and he still took such an insane risk!! i'm sure idia would have a crush on him after that.

i'm trying to wrap this up now because it's already too long but also idia has actually been said to have great fashion sense as his online persona and shown to enjoy cosplay and dressing up on occasion (for example, he went all out on his pumpkin knight costume and this hasn't made it to EN yet but he liked wearing the masquerade outfit). vil had pretty high praise for his design sense when he saw ortho's burst gear. and vil gets along incredibly well with ortho and is in the film club with him post-book 6, which is something i imagine idia would appreciate a lot. the contrast between them and the things they unexpectedly have in common are just so neat to me.

so, in conclusion,

i love them and i think they should be boyfriends

Here is an unfinished sketch of a Bully/Canis Canem Edit OC of mine. I'm not planning on completing this particular image, but I still wanted to post something because I said a while back that I'd share something about my OCs but I never did, so here is Brandi Torres!

My first fanfic that I posted on ao3 (you can find the link on my blog) actually includes her and another one of my OCs. I thought it was a fun way to introduce them while also writing a self-indulgent rarepair story, lol.

Some basic info. It might change in the future:

Below is her bio that I created a few months ago, back when I said I would post a work about my OCs on ao3. I didn't really know how to write their biographies in a way that would be interesting to read and I wanted to push myself to post my art online, so I scrapped that idea. Again, this info may change:

Brandi was born in New York and was the last child of four. Growing up in the hustle and bustle of NYC, Brandi was exposed to the glamorous world of showbiz. Her father, a movie producer and director, and her mother, an acclaimed opera singer, provided Brandi with a comfortable upbringing. Growing up, Brandi would spend her summer holidays at her family's vacation home in the Hamptons, where she first met Bryce Montrose and was immediately smitten with him. As the years passed, Brandi's feelings for Bryce grew to the point of possessiveness, although Bryce remains unaware of this and continues to regard Brandi like a little sister. Brandi is equally blind to Bryce's non-romantic feelings for her, believing that one day they will become a couple. When she was eleven years old, Brandi's family moved to New England and enrolled her into Bullworth Academy at the suggestion of the Montroses. She instantly became fast friends with Pinky and Gord and developed close relationships with Bif and Fiona (OC) [I plan on posting her soon, I just need to clean up her sketch]. It was during her time at Bullworth that Brandi began to compete for Bryce's attention, although it was often given to Chad instead. Through it all, Brandi remains one of Bryce's closest companions. Brandi is a well-known figure around school due to her parents' influence in the entertainment industry. She's taken her love of the spotlight and channeled it into her involvement with the Drama Club. She offers a certain level of flair to school productions, but her overconfidence in her singing talent often falls short of expectations. She loves to show off her wealth and flaunt her parents' fame at every opportunity. Brandi takes great pleasure in throwing lavish parties and often invites less wealthy students as guests. Brandi is social and amiable on the surface but can easily display a nastier side to those whom she sees as obstacles. She is good at persuasion and manipulation and will do whatever it takes to get what or who she wants.

Brandi is actually a composite of herself and another one of my OCs; Isabella was an OC I've had for a while who shared a lot of similarities with Brandi so I combined them together. Brandi's second personal name is an homage to Isabella

honestly not super big into cosplay. but i feel like gilbert would be fun just for the vibe. ivan would be fun purely for the fact that my iteration comes in at 214 cm. actual bird's eye view. i would like to be able to call all my tall-ass guy friends "short" at least once.

Hmmmm...probably emotional hurt/comfort? Canon put my characters through so much; they just need to be held!

10. What are your top five fics by kudos or reads?

Okay, in ascending order by kudos, they are:

5. A Bureau Love Story. Unsurprising this one hasn't done better, despite being my longest fic. It's a wlw crossover with the show White Collar, so it has a teeny tiny audience!

4. Out Loud. I'm pleasantly surprised by how much engagement this fic has gotten and continues to get! People just love it for some reason, I guess because it's cute and short and easy to read.

3. FBI Femslash. This was the first fic I ever published on AO3, so it's had more time to rack up kudos. It's also from back when I was first dipping my toes into actively participating in the Criminal Minds fandom, and back then I still wrote Jemily because that's what all the other wlw writers were doing.

2. Il Bambino. Honestly, this one was kind of a shock. It's the only non-CM fic I've written, and it flopped on Tumblr, so I had no idea what I was in for on AO3! It started racking up hits and kudos RIGHT AWAY! I guess the Grey's/Station 19 fandom is just more active/more appreciative of wlw ships and fics? Too bad all my fic ideas are for this silly little cop show whose fans only want to read content about their conventionally attractive fan favorite white guys. /lh

And of course, coming in at #1 is my masterpiece, Caution to the Wind! I am seriously so proud of this fic and so happy that it's my most popular and that it's gotten the engagement that it has. Of course, I wish more people would read it, but that's just because I'm really proud of it, so I want everyone to read it. Plus I believe in spreading the gospel of Temily lol. It can still be a little disheartening to compare the stats on this fic to the stats on like, Reid fics and Hotch fics, but I just keep reminding myself that popularity is not the same as success. (I tried to make this point once before in a discord server, but it kind of got derailed by male-centric writers talking about how popularity is not synonymous with quality, so here goes my second try.) Popularity is a measure of how big an audience your fic reaches and appeals to, and how many of those people actively engage with your fic. Success is a measure of how well your fic does within the subset of your fandom that is interested in your character/your ship/the kind of content you are creating. If you write wlw fics or rarepairs (or in my case, wlw rarepairs!), your audience will be smaller, and your stats will be lower, but success is measured not by how many people read your fic, but by how well it performs in your small audience. If you receive a lot of engagement and praise from the handful of other people who ship your ship, then your fic is successful, even if it never becomes popular. All of this is to say that while I am so incredibly proud of how successful Caution to the Wind has been, I still wish it were more popular.
