(SPOILERS FOR THE LAND OF STORIES) okay so sorta outing myself as a Land Of Stories fan, but who cares the it’s a great book series. So we all know the potion that can make any work of fiction real, and this potion worked on greek mythology. Greek mythology isn’t collectively seen as fiction though, majority does, but accent Greeks, and some people nowadays, see it as real. This is the same as the bible. Not everyone sees it at nonfiction, some see it as completely fiction. Would the potion work on the bible???? Could have the masked man got fucking God on his side???

this is a random question lol, but what are your thoughts on "Old Dog, New Tricks" and Chris Colfer as a writer (based on it)?
We love random questions around here!
Gonna be honest with you, I haven't seen that episode in full in over two years and it's gonna be another year before I get to it on my rewatch at this rate, so unfortunately I don't think I can go into a ton of detail. As in, a full analysis of Chris as a writer. But dw I won't just leave it at that I do have some thoughts.
I recently heard 5x19 be referred to as a low-rated and badly received episode, which I found curious. I'm not sure by what metric that is but especially by standards of that era of the show I consider it to be quite solid. I don't have strong feelings about the main plots of the nursing home play and the dogs as like, a base concept. Most things depend on execution and it was executed well enough. I wonder what parameters he was given, what could happen what couldn't, but as far as penultimate episodes of seasons go it's pretty much your standard slice of life stakes-wise.
What I can talk about more in-depth and what directly related to Chris as a writer is the character moments he included. At the very least and off the top of my head, there are 3-4 great character moments that tell me Chris paid attention to this cast of characters and took care to keep whatever shred of continuity Glee was still hanging onto at that point. Frankly, Chris seems to have cared more for these characters than the actual writers' room did in these late seasons.
What I'm talking about in particular are these details:
Kurt, obviously. It's understandable that Chris wrote an episode with a major Kurt plot and it was a breath of fresh air to focus on him separate from the main group, even if only for a beat. Two standout moments are a) him standing up to/calling out Rachel, which actually leads somewhere unlike it often does in NYC. See my second bullet point. And b), even more importantly and in a detail that so often lacks from the series, Kurt talking about his mother to Maggie's daughter. Such a small scene in the grand scheme of things but very poignant and the one I remember the most from this episode (sans Santana). That moment really made me go "oh Chris gets Kurt." He cares about this character enough to pay attention to this, imo, crucial detail.
Rachel's is a smaller one but also on two fronts, one on the Kurt of it all and like I said in the way that she actually goes to support him and concedes to be a more supportive friend. This is a lesson Rachel learns a lot but this is among the better executions of it. And the second is her general arc of at least trying to do good things because they're good and not just for optics. Shame this sentiment is limited to this one episode.
Santana! Of course, my beloved. Chris Colfer singlehandedly gave me PR Santana, who I hold onto dearly and fight in the name of, against all the lawyer Santana stuff. It was a great direction for her character to take and I'm grateful Chris gave us this, even if we never hear from PR Santana again. More thoughts on PR Santana here. The Pezberry shenanigans are also great. And we have a detail here, too, with the brilliant Santana line "in high school ... I was voted best shoulder to cry on and most likely to poison someone", which tells me that Chris gets Santana, too. Love that. God the feels I have about that line lol.
I also have to shout out the Sam stuff, maybe not in general because frankly I don't remember but at least one detail. Chris seemed to be the only writer to remember season 2 Sam and the way he was working hard to protect and support his family, and the impact that must have had on him. Later seasons lean into Sam the himbo, but, tbh, not in a way I find particularly charming just because they really emphasize his... carelessness, I guess. His immaturity, that's a better word. So he's not the himbo from season 2 but someone a lot less capable and more of a caricature version than he used to be, and that's not the direction in which it should go. BUT, that said, Chris takes the time to examine this with Sam and takes care to remember how Sam had to grow up too quickly, how he did have to be mature before. I don't think it goes anywhere but that's on Glee much more than it is on one-off episode writer Chris Colfer.
Tumblr media
Writing characters well has been my primary focus for as long as I have been looking at media critically and Chris Colfer succeeded on that front for sure. These are the main things I remember from the episode and the main aspects of it that make me look back on Chris' writing fondly.
I've been meaning to check out Chris' books or just anything from him as a writer because I am curious. In interviews, he's always so quick-witted and good with words. The main thing, apart from Old Dogs, that I think about in terms of Chris as a writer is his Variety tribute piece to Naya. It's not only a heartwarming (and -wrenching) piece but damn you can tell the man's a writer. A good one, at that. He just has that instinct, based on this piece. Where the words flow and the arc of what he's saying makes sense on a deeper level. So yeah I'm curious, and maybe I'll rewatch Old Dogs earlier than planned just to view it from that perspective this time around.

I know this is old news but the fact that Glee is just like. On streaming platforms now. Like its bingeable, like you can just watch and watch and watch if you wanted to, (grips your face) listen to me. Listen to me. i NEED you to know that back in my day if it wasnt currently airing i had to watch that shit on megavideo and once my 72 minutes of daily video was up i was DONE! It was OVER! And you know what? I’m damn grateful for it because watching more that 1.75 episodes of Glee at a time probably causes irreversible brain damage!

Oh my god... I just realized... that the universe wants Kurtbastian to be. Just, look:
Kurt Hummel → portrayed by Chris Colfer → who also played Carson Phillips → who was struck by lightning.
Sebastian Smythe → portrayed by Grant Gustin → who also played Barry Allen → who was struck by lightning.
What are the odds?!
...I know, I know. I'm seeing things that aren't really there. But! I don't care! I love this coincidence anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Do you believe there's a Darren Criss to Jeremy Jordan pipeline? I feel like there is.
Bonus, as fun as it is to roast Glee cause it is that terrible of a show, they did have some great singers. Who were your favourites?
i don't necessarily think it's a pipeline, but the venn diagram of darren criss and jeremy jordan fans is mostly a circle and the people who aren't in the middle simply are not familiar with the other guy (yet).
oh god yeah glee was ENTIRELY carried by the vocal chops of the cast.
in no particular order, some of my faves: amber riley, naya rivera, darren criss, the guy who did take me to church (i truly did not care about any of the season 6 students so i've forgotten everything else about him), jonathan groff, chris colfer, alex newell, and grant gustin (weakest voice on this list for sure but annie are you okay fucked too hard to leave him out and i was just thinking about him- are you the same anon?)
so many other incredible voices but those are the first few that come to mind

Villains and Heroes are one in the same.
"A villain is just a victim whose story hasn't been told."
-Chris Colfer
Part 1 (Might make a part 2)
Jason Todd x Reader (Nonbinary/Masc language)
Warning: Not proof read, fluff, boy love, new writer (BARE WITH ME PLEASE), etc.
Gotham, A lovely city... For no one but the criminals. You however were a part of that majority. Being a crazy criminal in Gotham is paradise and hell for you.
The bodies of other nameless victims of murder were being found all over Gotham, covered in paint of handprints with no match. It was weird to the bat family to not be able to find the murderer that Gotham has deemed the name, The painter.
The paint covered suit with handprints without a match covered the black suit and the only other thing that stuck out was the glow of the killer's bright green eyes. Your eyes.
One day, the antihero known as Red Hood gets assigned to find you either ending up on a dead end or having his lips being pressed against yours.
"Red... One of my favorite colors."
You say giggling at him, tempting him with those green fluttering eyes of yours. Making his stomach turn into butterflies. Red Hood looks at you intensely trying to figure out who you are and failing miserably.
"You drive me crazy, Sketch."
"So that's the nickname you chose for me? Sketch? Really?"
You snicker at this, he makes you so happy unfortunately you were just a casual relationship to him and attempted to not get too attached.
"You know why I don't just turn you in? A villain is just a victim whose story hasn't been told. Let me tell the world your story, Handsome."
God... He was gonna get in trouble one day for this...

My favorite solo from each main character on glee (because why not)
SUE: Vogue. “WILL SCHUESTER I HATE YOU”
KURT: Rose’s Turn. Chris Colfer rarely got songs that highlighted ALL his vocal strengths. This song used everything. He had a strong head voice, an amazing mix, and he can EMOTE WITH EVERY INCH OF HIS LIFE. No wonder he got the Golden Globe.
QUINN: This Is A Man’s World. This scene is ridiculous, but out of context the song absolutely slaps. Diana can BELT and she deserved to do it more.
ARTIE: Stronger. Probably my favorite Britney song. Kevin ate. That is all.
PUCK: Only the Good Die Young. This song is so fun and I think Puck’s voice is very underrated. A good ol’ jam. Thank you for repping the Jewish community king ❤️
WILL: Sway. It’s a shame that we never talk about his voice because HOLY SHIT MATTHEW MORRISON IS INCREDIBLE. This man is so talented and we never acknowledge it because of Will Schuester’s shenanigans.
BLAINE: Somewhere Only We Know. You can hate Blaine all you want but you can’t deny the POWER of this song. The love in his eyes is sickening I am not okay right now
FINN: I’ve Gotta Be Me. Given the fact that Cory didn’t have any singing experience before, this song makes me so fucking happy because you can see how much he had grown as a singer, but also how proud he was of himself! Look at him go!!! (Bonus: If I’m bending the rules in terms of what qualifies as a solo I would 100% make his Paradise By the Dashboard Light. That was his undoubtedly his very best vocal performance. It’s SO FUCKING GOOD it makes me go batshit.)
RACHEL: My Man. “She may be difficult but boy can she sing.”
BRITTANY: Run the World. The dancing is definitely the more impressive part of this number, but it still sounds great! This song really highlighted Heather’s strengths, when most of her songs weren’t very memorable in my opinion.
MIKE: Cool. Maybe Tina should be a professional vocal coach because damn look at him go!! Idk why an Asian kid wanted to play the role of a leader of a white supremacist group but at least he sounds great 🤷‍♀️
MERCEDES: I Will Always Love You. Literally every single Mercedes song is perfect, so this was the hardest one for me. This means I had to base it on acting. And she DELIVERS here. It should be illegal to be this talented.
TINA: Because You Loved Me. The fact that this is one of TWO solos that Jenna actually got to finish infuriates me. She was ROBBED because she is an amazing singer.
SANTANA: Nutbush City Limits. LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, MISS NAYA RIVERA. HOLY SHIT. Finn saying before the song, “They say that true divas aren’t really mortal” is so true. This woman was an absolute icon and I will always be blown away by her talent.
JAKE: Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself). It’s so EARNEST and HEARTFELT and Jacob Artist popped off with the acting. And the falsetto!! God it’s just beautiful.
EMMA: Getting Married Today. This is a trio, not a solo, but it’s so fucking good that I HAD to do it. That is literally one of the hardest female songs on Broadway, and for some reason they had Jayma sing it even FASTER than the original version? I can’t imagine the stress of trying to do that, but she was perfect.
SAM: Copacabana. This is just a really fun song! Everyone’s having a good time and Chord sounds amazing.
RYDER: Your Song. This is my favorite Elton John song, and boy was it done justice. The acting is really good in this scene. The mix of anxiety and earnestness coming from Ryder is adorable. He had great chemistry with whoever that girl was. (On a storyline note, I hated how this all developed though. If it had gone my way, Unique would confess it was her, then Ryder would sing this directly to Unique.)
KITTY: Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours. I just really like this number. Obsessed with Becca’s high notes.
MARLEY: Wrecking Ball. The cheating storyline with Bree was so fucking stupid and shouldn’t have happened. That being said, Melissa ATE what they gave her and left zero crumbs. She really came in like a wrecking ball.
UNIQUE: I Know Where I’ve Been. THIS SONG MAKES ME GO FUCKING CRAZY!!! THE TRANS CHOIR!!!! THE ACTING!!!!! THE FUCKING HIGH NOTE!!!!!! IT’S JUST SO GOOD I CAN’T HANDLE IT!!!!!!! This is the best part of season 6, full stop. THE most underrated Glee song ever. I will not accept criticism towards this opinion.

ok. i took a long, long time (song ref) but hi!!!!!!!!!
1. titanic fic (*cue shit-eating grin*). umum. im curious if there's anything about the morse code yet. or codes in gen actually. so. sentences with the word "code" :3
2. titanic vid!!!! Idk if you like the engineering aspects, but there still were a ton of other facts sprinkled in (spiral staircases, people that monitored coal balance, separate staff room for firemen, how they got air down there etc) https://youtube.com/watch?v=4begc_U8ygI#searching
3. surprise!! this is an interview. i have some Official Author questions for you (feel free to pick and choose, come back to this later, or just striaght up ignore lol):
3a. Do you have any authors (professional or not) that you aspire to be like one day?
3b. Following that up, are there any specific works (again, published, professional, etc or just amazing amateur works!!) that really inspire you?
3c. What made you start writing? I'm curious on anything that led to the conscious decision, of course, but additionally do you think there was anything you grew up with that "planted the seeds"? Was it any of the people from question 3a?
3d. What's the silliest (/pos) idea you've ever had for a fic? If you didn't write/publish it, why not? Was it a recent thing? If not, do you think your experience would have influenced that idea today?
if those dont make sense u can send me a messgae or something 👍👍👍 goodnight
ITS BEEN THREE DAYS but im here okay……. lets do this. hi pep :>
1) alas, i’ve been focusing on a lot of other things so i havent reached a written point of the Code Usage, which begins in like chapter 3-4. sorry man 💔 (progress has been made ! just not as much as i’d hope 😭)
2) FUN FACTS?!??!??!??!!?!!? IM WATCHING A DOCUMENTARY RN BUT IM YOINKING THIS RIGHT AFTER YIPPIE!!!!!!!!
3a) uhmmmmmmmm i dont exactly pay attention to authors as much as i pay attention to books but you know what. rick riordan. not because of anything he’s done or written but because of his audacity to write 20+ books in the same universe and still get 100000000000000 people 1000000% invested in it. i wanna write sequels forever. can i be him
3b) OHHHHHHHH UHM UHM UHM UHM the thing that got me into fanfic specifically was the fic “versability” (it was a gf fic about ‘what if ford never made the portal’, written like 2015-16, and yeah i did know of and even read a bit of fic beforehand but i was never into it) but just READING ? the land of stories by chris colfer, easy. mmmmmmmmm that was my fucking Thing. if i wasnt a baby at that time i would have WROTE. SO. MUCH. GOOD GOD. IT WAS MY THING. THE THING THAT GOT ME INTO NOVELS. URGH. alex my iconic mentally ill bisexual, conner my precious cynical boy. i need to read those again my GOD now i think about it that was fairytale fanfiction that happejed to bepublished and ohhhhh it was beautiful. im gonna read jt . iM GONNA DO IT!!!!
3c) in writing in general or just fanfic? for fanfic its that one day i had an gf fic idea (that i had to heavily revise/rewrite, but it did end up getting out eventually) that i hadnt read anything like it, and i wanted to see it. decided: hey, im shit at writing, but might as well!!!!!! 65k words later, its not a joke anymore. im a Writer now :) but as for in general, well ofc reading books. people told me in the past im creative and should get into book writing if you like reading so much. i decided well im gonna do it professionally, but might as well do something tiny, so i well uh wrote. im not gonna tell you but it certainly was Something. classic isekai mary sue dramatic plot hybrids etc etc etc but actually the queen the mc is “related” to is actually polyam and was in a relationship with both their dad and their mom and the big villain is the queen’s sister who’s pissed that both of her lovers ditched her for the human world (but actually they had to break up because because the society was not polyam friendly. there just happened to be a war after that). everything else was basic isekai except for that little crumble of lore. the queen was a bisexual. the dad was a pansexual. the mom was a lesbian. i think i ate there to be honest
3d) mmmmmm i gotta think. there was definitely a gf x amphibia au where ford got ploped in amphibia and the plantars IMMEDIATELY stole him and wrapped him up in their adventures right when the plot starting becoming a thing (early season 2). there’s one where stan and ford just….. climb a tree. it’s laced with a lot of philosophical talks straight from good omens knowledge but ultimately its just goody fun. mmmmm theres one where gabriel has no idea what crowley looks like, but he DOES know what Bildad The Shuite looks like, itd be tiny but so so so so funny. the gf/gomens crossover…..a human au based on that one tumblr post about a necromancer bringing people back from the dead to fuck with the killer and opening a discord support group….. the s1 humans + aziraphale being the victims, crowley the necromancer, and the s2 humans being the nosy outsiders who Notice things happens but can never say shit. oughhhh……… Yeah. yeah, thats good. most of these are recent except 4 the amphibia one, wouldnt change much about it even with the shit i know now EXCEPT being able to handle the relationships/emotions between the characters better, ive certainly gotten better at it and i love it. i havent published any bc either i started but couldnt finished, or just thought it was neat and moved on to plop it in the ideas folder and wait 4 inspiration.
OKAY THATS A LOT BUT THERE YOU GO sorry for the wait, man. you’re my best cupperty you know that right 🫵 ANSWERS!!!!! and ill work on titanic as fast as i can, it hasnt been forgotten !! i just gotta mow the grass….. (“short” fic wips)

book recs!! (part 1)
(these are just my opinions but i read a lot of books and i enjoy making tumblr posts)
“i can never finish a book. i want something that i can read continuously off and on for a few months that’s still nice and comforting.”
read howl’s moving castle. literally so cozy, so fairy-tale-like, the characters are so loveable, and you can totally read it for a bit, ignore it for a month, and then come back and not be confused. i love it.
“i want a fun to read fantasy series that has great characters and is the perfect escapism magical series to get sucked into.”
this is a genre i like to call “twelve year old fantasy.” books originally written for young teens/middle schoolers that are actually really good and super lovely to read.
first up we have— the nevermoor series by jessica townsend!! infinitely love these books. all the characters are so well developed and so easy to fall in love with, the society and government is thought out SO well without getting too dark, and the magic is incredibly fun to read. i will always recommend these books. i’m so in love with them. diverse and queer characters and i love it so much ahh!!
next we have the land of stories series by chris colfer. i think most people have read these but oh my god. every time i reread them i remember how much i loved them. if you love fairy tales and third person omniscient (done really well!!) is your thing, this is a must-read. genuinely such fun books.
then harry potter, obviously. i don’t support jk rowling but people who say her writing is bad are lying. the worldbuilding in these books is impeccable.
(and howl’s moving castle again).
“i want queer books by the same author that are all connected but aren’t exactly a series that are funny and smart and FUN.”
this is mainly two authors (for my personal recs). becky albertalli and alice oseman.
becky albertalli— oh my god!! i’m gonna make a separate post ranking all her books or something. these books are like CANDY. simon vs the homo-sapiens agenda specifically; every time i pick it up i sorta stop-drop-and-roll. i finish it within two hours. the perfect amount of romance and queerness and friend group dynamics (SO GOOD!!!) and everything you want. genuinely like candy. these books are addictive and the characters are so wonderful— even the worst ones you love. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
alice oseman— whole different genre, really. EXTREMELY relatable books about teenagers (queer and not) that delve much more into deeper and sadder emotions without being depressing. beautiful writing. i love her. characters are so deep and beautiful and ahh!!! love her books. LOVE.

"I'll never forget what one little girl told me: 'Thanks for writing girls as strong as boys'. I'd like to live in a world where she wouldn't feel like that's something she should thank me for"
-Loosely translated from my copy of Chris Colfer's "The Land Of Stories - The Ultimate Book Hugger's Guide"
This. Just this ok. He put it into words. That's literally how I feel as someone who writes LGBTQ+ characters. It's great that people appreciate the rep. I do too whenever I see it somewhere else! But God do I wish it wasn't something to celebrate

CHRIS COLFER'S NEW BOOK OH MY GOD

A list of things that inspire me:
— The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer. An extremely influential book series to me, as it was what got me into reading and eventually writing. It also sparked my fascination with fairy tales and fantasy.
— The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris. I’ve only read the first two books, but they mean a lot to me. Another one of those things that i read when i was younger and has since left a large mark on me. Probably sparked some of my love for found family lol. And queer representation.
— Nightmares by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller. Les me into some love of all things spooky and horrifying.
— Poetry.
— The Girl with The Ghost Machine by Lauren DeStefano. Oh my gods the *angst* in this book. I found it in the library one day and decided to give it a read. It permanently changed me.
— the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen. Understandable due to my fairy tale passion.
— folklore
— Music
— Nature
— You guys 💙
— The Trifecta (Gravity Falls, The Owl House and Amphibia)
— Floriography
— The Miraculous Story of Edward Tulane by Kate Dicamello. Read this in grade two for our class’s novel study, and uh… You know, it’s okay for a seven year old to cry in the middle of reading a book with their class. That was something i did. I’m fine (genuine)
— The Night Gardener by Johnathan Auxier. Read it for a novel study also. I had actually read it before, though (only by a few weeks) and had a lovely interaction with my teacher when i saw it on the wall and went “oh my gosh, The Night Gardener? I read that book! It was great!” And she had a moment of. Shock. Anyway it was fine i just couldn’t make predictions.
— fan fiction
— fan art
— Percy Jackson
— Kipo and The Age of Wonderbeasts
— Avatar the Last Airbender
— a Series of Unfortunate Events
— and certainly more…
