one aspect of furina's characterization that's pretty understated but that i really really really love is her intelligence and curiosity. usually in genshin, when a character's intelligence is an important trait of theirs, there are aspects of their design, writing, voice acting, etc, that very clearly tell you "hey this character is smart." albedo, for example, wears a labcoat, is always saying big sciency words in a calm, rational tone of voice, and other characters are always talking about how smart he is

but furina? nothing about her on the surface suggests that she's a "smart" character - quite the opposite, in fact. superficially, she's introduced as a bratty, conceited, overconfident person who actually has no idea what she's doing. we eventually learn in the archon quest that that was all an act, but even after she regains her freedom, nothing about her really seems archetypically intelligent, at least at face value

instead, furina's intelligence is always shown rather than told (the only exception being nahida's voiceline about her). she had an intelligence network across teyvat feeding her information, and we saw in the flashback how she directed researchers to study the prophecy and potential ways of stopping it. before things like lyney's trial or directing the two musketeers, she'd stay up all night planning and piecing things together all on her own. she loves learning new things, she has lines in the teapot about how, when she's interested in something, she wants to become the most knowledgeable person in the topic, and also how she'd like to disassemble the teapot itself to learn how it works, and she's quick to learn new skills (like surfing). and, of course, she's well read, and quite possibly teyvat's foremost expert on the performing arts

i like how furina sort of defies the concept of character archetypes. she's initially presented as an archetypical bratty, dramatic, spoiled popular girl, but that was a role she forced herself into because it's what people expected of her. but the real furina, while still retaining some of the flamboyance from her archon persona, doesn't really fit into a clear mold. she's smart without being a super-genius, and she's kind without being a soft-spoken doormat. it makes her feel multifaceted and real, and i really love that!

anyway, this is why it makes me mad whenever i see people calling furina stupid, cuz she's not!

aight with the trivia about angel and husk's romantic preferences and the inclusion of vivz saying "angel is meant to get a love interest," if it's not husk then brooo we haven't even met the love interest yet. but i'm betting (ha) on husk cause

husk is apparently "sweet" and "cuddly" but only with a significant other

angel wants "a solid relationship built on respect, with someone who values him"

angel apparently finds "someone masculine" and "other gangsters" attractive

husk is described as being "angel's best friend"

vivz wants to "make sure their relationship has the time to develop" but didn't indicate of that was platonic or romantic

they're at least meant to be BFFs and husk is literally angel's type, values consent (the opposite of Val), and they were really given each other the eyes by the end there. if that isn't leading up to huskerdust i'll eat a hat

🎂 BIRTHDAY CAKE - when is their birthday? do they like celebrating it? Sin is a libra! And his birthday is one day before mine, October 20th! He doesn't care about it that much, though. Usually they just let it pass like any other day.

🎭 MASKS - do they act differently around certain people? what's different between the way they act around friends, family, strangers, etc.? I tried SO HARD to answer this one but it's incredibly challenging to put what I know into words! Because Sin is pretty consistent in his behavior but specific, tiny changes depend on SPECIFIC PERSONS? I'm sorry I failed you

👖 JEANS - what is their go-to outfit? Believe it or not, Sin is VERY insecure deep inside. He was the ignored bad-looking kid until 10th grade and it stuck with them. Still, he wears what he likes and makes him happy! That being said, I'd choose his everyday outfit or EVERY WEIRD JACKET IN THIS WORLD.

Boromir’s last stand 😫

I’ll be honest, I was pretty nervous when I saw that most of you voted for me to draw Boromir next. I’ve been trying not to base my designs too much on the movie versions and have instead been relying on the descriptions in the books, or my own imagination - but film Boromir is just so much better than the one in the books! I decided to base his look more on movie Boromir (although I did make his tunic shorter because a longer one was making an action pose so difficult to draw) but you will notice that I also gave him a shield.

Of course, in the movie, Boromir doesn’t have his shield on him when he dies at Osgiliath. I couldn’t remember if this was the case in the books, so I re-read that chapter before starting this piece, and found that he did have it with him but it was broken during his last battle with the orcs.

In the scene where Boromir's funeral boat is described, his shield is not mentioned among the items placed about him :

“Now they laid Boromir in the middle of the boat that was to bear him away. The grey hood and elven-cloak they folded and placed beneath his head. They combed his long dark hair and arrayed it upon his shoulders. The golden belt of Lorien gleamed about his waist. His helm they set beside him, and across his lap they laid the cloven horn and the hilts and shards of his sword; beneath his feet they put the swords of his enemies.’’

However, we *do* learn in Aragorn's second verse of his departure song what became of Boromir’s shield:

“Beneath Amon Hen I heard his cry. There many foes he fought.

His cloven shield, his broken sword, they to the water brought.”

What I found interesting was that the broken sword and horn were sent down the river with Boromir but that his broken shield was not. I did some research and learned that an average shield would be so commonly broken in battle that these typically were not named and passed down in the manner that swords were.

Anyway, I really hope you like this little drawing. I had fun with this piece.
