The Fair Folk; A Shadowed Souls Novel: An Introduction
The Story:
Riichi Saito had a troubled childhood, but as a young adult they want nothing more than a quiet life far from the angst of their youth.
The universe is not so kind.
They think they have a chance at that peace when their absent mother’s sister leaves them a small house in a teeny community call Blindthicket, but that proves hectic as not only was it not actually from their aunt, their mother turns out to be…
… A fairy dictator? Can nothing be easy in their life?
Mitchell Spring is a Foundling; a human who was kidnapped as young child and replaced with a changeling. He’s not known freedom for a second in his life, but he’s willing to fight for it, and to rally the other foundlings to do the same.
But the fey queens are powerful, and the Changeling Mother dangerous. He needs help to do it. Help on their level. So, when he finds out that the Autumn Queen has a secret child who could take the empty winter throne, he jumps to try to recruit them to help.
But he doesn’t want to force them as they refuse, and he tries to find another way while protecting them from their mother.
Fair Folk is an extremely pro-solidarity story with found family elements, a queer romance subplot, and themes of harmful parenting and healing from that.

Childhood prodigy classical musician who quit competitions and performing in public at all when they were 16, after their father went to jail and could no longer force them. They don’t even like music anymore, but it was all they had for their entire life, and they feel like they can’t let it go.
Really, they want to find love
for it again. They just don’t know how, and it seems pretty impossible as more family drama comes to haunt them, now from their mother’s side of the family.

He/him
Mitchell is a painter who never has the time to paint, instead having all his time taken by the fey who kidnapped him as a young child.
He could just runaway; he has just enough freedom to manage that, but he wants to change things, and free all foundlings and not just himself. So revolution it is.
They might be able to keep individual foundlings under their thumbs, but they can’t do it to all of them.
He hopes to make it so no kid is ever kidnapped like he was again

He/him
James Hynes is a Changeling, placed in a home to replace a child who’s name he now shares that was kidnapped. He ran away from that home when he was 16, and that’s when the Changeling Mother called him back to the Fey world, to help run the very system that produced him. And he hates it.
He was daydreaming his own revolution before he met Mitchell, and after they met, the two were inseparable, slowly and secretly building a coalition from the ground up.
Other Characters:
Nina Spring: Nina is a six-year-old Foundling girl in Mitchell’s care. He took her under his wing (and basically adopted her) as a way to protect her from the very mistreatment he received from the Changeling Mother as a child. She’s endlessly curious and very talkative.
Kyle Spring: A foundling who started in the Autumn court, but recently was transferred to Spring as to work under Mitchell.
Malina Autumn: Malina is the highest ranked foundling of the Autumn court, and she’s an ally of Mitchell’s in his planned revolution. Buff girl who kicks ass and takes no one’s shit.
The Changeling Mother: All Changelings are descended from her, though none are born directly from her these days, as she lets the lesser mothers do that, and she runs the entire awful system. She’s a very abusive woman, and no changeling or foundling wants her direct attention.
The Autumn Queen: Queen of the Autumn Court and Riichi’s mother. She’s cold, unpredictable, and cruel. She hates being denied what she wants to extreme degree.
The Spring Queen: Queen of the Spring Court, and Mitchell’s ‘boss’. She capricious and harsh and willing to go to any lengths to prove herself better than her sisters at all costs.

Today's prompt was...
I Want To Play A Game
Some of the most recent hits in horror history have been not movies, books, or shows, but video games. From Dead By Daylight to Until Dawn, horror fans have been able to experience immersion at a whole new level by trying to make all the right choices as a character. Now, it’s time to put your oc into a horror game AU. Will they live, or will they die? Only their stats and choices will tell.
I'm not even gonna write a long ahead-of-time ramble for this one because I'm so freaking excited. Get ready!
HE'S ALIVE!
Everyone, meet Jamie the Dog! He's named after his creator, James "Jamie" Hynes, one of Fazbear's lead technicians and protégé of both Henry Emily and William Afton, who died in a tragic accident in his workshop only a day after finishing the animatronic.
I literally Frankenstein-ed this guy together myself - HUGE THANKS to all the creators on DeviantArt who have animatronic parts uploaded. But don’t think I was just sticking parts together, oh no, I also had to reshape and retexture a lot of them to get to this. It's far from perfect, but it's my boy. I'm particularly proud of the snoot, teeth and all, and the ears! The upper jaw of the snout comes from Toy Freddy with the huge black nose removed and a smaller, rounder nose added - I believe it's Toy Bonnie's! I also removed two teeth and replaced them with two sharper ones I stole from Mangle's jaw. The bottom jaw is Toy Bonnie's but it was in a really odd light, so I not only had to fiddle around if multiple layers to evenly color it but also to whiten the teeth. The ears are also Toy Bonnie's where I once again had the same lighting/coloring issue and I heavily edited the bottom part of the ears to make them smaller so they'd more resemble dog ears instead of bunny ears. All in all, this took literal hours, even days and many, many file versions. I feel kinda sad knowing most people probably won't care about my little guy but I love him.
Both Jamies have so much freaking lore and I can't wait to share more about them!

Infinity Wars Anthology, ed Jonathan Strahan ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Started off strong this month, Beneath Strange Lights by Vivian Valentine was a really great surprise--I'm not super into young adultish books most of the time, but the voice and characterisation of this one were really outstanding, and the way that it plays with eldrich and cosmic horror was extremely well done. The friendships between the characters were endearing without being overly saccharine, and overall it was just really well done, I'll definitely be looking forward to the sequel. (Oh and also the main character is a trans girl!)
Red X by David Demchuk was also a really strong book. It's a pretty challenging read given its close attention to violence against and among the LGBT+ community in Canada, as well as its very interesting interpolation of semi-fictionalised autobiographical elements into the narrative. It was really worthwhile, even though it was almost impossible to get ahold of it in Australia (reminds me I need to ask my library to order a copy!) But I would recommend making sure you're in a good headspace before you start this one.
And there are two older stories that I hadn't read before, Persuasion by Jane Austen, and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, by Washington Irving.
I've got to say, I'm a bit disappointed with all the Austen-heads in my life that they never pushed Persuasion to the front of the line! It's a second-chance romance with an older cast than the other Austen books I've read so far, and I think it's really a strong contender for my top Austen book! It's got its sad and heartwarming moments, and the Great Big Letter Declaring His Love is, honestly, probably beating out Darcy's hash of things in P&P. This is a great book! It's a shame it gets overshadowed!
Sleepy Hollow, Sleepy Hollow. What can I say about The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. How about, first off, I've never been able to sit through a whole movie or show adaptation of this story without getting bored halfway through. Not sure what exactly it is about them, but I just bounce right off. Now I read the story, and discover that every adaptation has taken the bold decision to do the exact opposite of the story? This doesn't mean that I enjoyed the short story! I found it...fine. A little bit boring. But short!! There was some nice descriptive language, but overall, not what I wanted to be doing with my time. But I am still befuddled and bemused; how does a short story about how silly and gullible it is to believe in ghosts get turned around and adapted into an avalanche of 'OMG! the ghost is REAL!' movies and shows? I don't get it!
Anyhow, that's that for February! Overall, it was a pretty good time!

Hallmark Projects
Here are some updates on Hallmark production projects from this month. Like always, all the information/speculation I put in this is based off social media posts from different Hallmark actors/actresses, general social media info and a production website I look at often. Things such air dates, airing networks, co-stars, movie titles, etc, are always subject to change.
Cindy Busby and Chad Michael Murray - The Holiday Train - Filming - Only news I’ve been able to find so far is that apparently the child actor who voices Rocky on Paw Patrol will also be in this film based on a social media post by Chad, himself.
Torrey DeVitto - The Christmas Promise - Filming- Giles Panton tagged her in a selfie of himself on set of the film. Now apparently he confirmed he is not the lead in this movie but will be a supporting character. So if that truly is the case, no word on Torrey’s co-lead.
Janel Parrish and Ryan Pavey - Coyote Creek Christmas - Filming - Not much word on this film other than the basics already listed so far. But they should be about halfway or so through filming.
Lyndsy Fonseca, Chandler Massey, Eric Freeman and Lea Thompson - Next Stop Christmas - Filming - Known actress Lea, actor from Katy Keene and 2 past/present soap stars all wrapped up in one Hallmark film! All that is know about this film is that it is filming in Connecticut.
Merritt Patterson and Jon Ecker - Gingerbread Miracle - Filming - They both posted set selfie photos and Merritt posted a photo of just Jon on her social media. Pretty sure it’s safe to say the movie will deal with Gingerbread in some way.
Kristoffer Polaha - Christmas Sail - Filming - While it’s not confirmed, it’s a safe bet to assume he’s one of the leads in this film. He commented on the directors post jokingly asking for details about the movie, director Stacey Harding teasingly responded saying it’s top secret.
Erin Cahill and Wes Brown - The Search for Christmas - Upcoming - All that is known about the film is that it will be filled in Mississippi. Erin shared that info herself on social media. I’m guessing production should be starting with the next few weeks.
Tamera Mowry-Housley - I Spy Christmas turned The Santa Stakeout - Wrapped - No word on co-star but from a twitter source I use, Devon Alexander, who appeared as a supporting character in a handful of Hallmark films has a role in the film. So there is a potential of him being the lead.
Ashleigh Murray and Luke James - Christmas in Harmony - Wrapped - Also starring, Tia Streaty and Loretta Devine. From my twitter source, it seems like this film with be music themed. According to a very vague plot description it’s about a women returning home to find her herself and finds love along the way...shocking right? But both leads are new to the network as this will be their first film.
Luke Mcfarlane and Heather Hemmens - Christmas in my Heart - Wrapped - Based on film description he’ll play a country artist with Hemmens playing a concert violinist. According to the article I saw he will playing a father in this film. It is said to air on HMM channel.
Current Hallmark Filming/Pairing Rumors:
Danica McKeller and Benjamin Ayres or Paul Campbell - You, Me and the Christmas Trees - Wrapped - Directed by David Winning, a well known Hallmark director. There are 2 possible male leads I’ve been hearing. Based on social media both men were filming something Christmas themed around the same time fame as Danica. It seems more likely to be Benjamin but either way it could very well seem that we will be getting a holiday movie from both guys this year!
Rukiya Bernard and Dewshane Williams - Christmas Time is Here - Filming/Wrapped - While I have yet to hear confirmation that she will starring opposite Dewshane again, according to some on set photos, cast and crew confirmed Rukiya would be the leading lady.
Andrew Walker and Aimee Teegarden - My Christmas Family Tree - Filming - Currently under the rumor mill as both are are apparently in Vancouver and filming around the same locations according to my twitter source of mine. While it can be safe to assume, there has not been any confirmation yet.
Bethany Joy Lenz and Tyler Hynes - An Unexpected Christmas - Upcoming - Tyler is currently in Vancouver, he mentioned recently that he was gearing up for a Christmas movie, and Bethany posted on social media about heading to Vancouver for a Hallmark Christmas film. While it could be nothing, this is a another possible and current pairing rumor going around.
Eloise Mumford - According to my twitter source there is a rumor of Eloise returning for another Hallmark Christmas film this year. Her last was in 2018 and apparently it is suppose to start sometime filming next month sometime.
Possible Hallmark Projects:
Susie Abromeit - Much ADO About Christmas - Wrapped - Directed by Michael Damian. Susie starred in A Perfect Christmas with the network along with a supporting character in Snow Bride. Apparently Torrance Coombs also stars in the film, not sure if he is lead or not.
Dillion Casey and Sarah Lind - The Great Christmas Switch - Wrapped - Directed by Ernie Barbarash. He’s directed 3 Hallmark moves in the past, recently Christmas in Rome. Lind is currently starring in the Martha’s Vineyard HMM Series and Casey has only been in 1 pervious Hallmark movie which was A Perfect Christmas where he was the lead guy.
**Given that it’s Christmas filming season on the network, I know lots of holiday movie titles and stars have been confirmed for Hallmark Christmas 2021 (Lacey, Candance, Alison, etc.) that will probably be starting production in Sept. Like always I plan on digging up what I can find for next months production post, unless the network beats me to it and releases everything first.**

Great Advice from the Great Writers of The Great Courses

The past few months have probably shown you a different world than the one you’re used to: outside your door, there’s less commuter traffic, fewer crowds waiting to be seated at the local eatery or queueing up for the opening of the latest movie, no kids chasing each other with sticks and screaming as they wait for school buses.
Inside your door, however, it’s a whole new world. That’s because your job, your school, your favorite restaurant, your movie theater… all of your outside worlds are now contained within the four walls you call home. And all that chaos is stuck inside with you. (We know. We live there, too.)
Even if you don’t have children, pets, or additional adults going stir crazy around you, 2020 has provided enough chaos on a daily basis that it’s almost impossible to focus on a five-word tweet, let alone commit to a 50,000-word novel. The positive side is that these distractions could turn into some pretty fantastic book fodder. But of course, sitting down and writing about this hectic time while still in the midst of it? Well, that’s a completely different story.

Remember when your biggest frustration was carving out some time to write? And yet now, when so many of our usual commitments and pleasures have been stripped away, the one thing many of us have is time. But how to harness this extra time—that is the question. It's just so seductive to try out yet another sourdough bread recipe or to binge yet another show on Netflix. My advice? Engage in slowthink. Don't ask yourself, "Why am I not writing?" Instead, ask yourself, "What might I want to learn, to know, or to create?" During the Great Pause, I've been reading all of the millennial novels and memoirs about women and food that I can get my hands on, and I'm slowthinking my way through them. There's something there—I'm not sure what—that I want to write about myself, but since I don't yet know what that is, I'm just underlining striking phrases and making the occasional note in my writing journal. And that's okay; I'm relaxing my creative mind to see what bubbles up.

How to Write Best-Selling Fiction
Write tight. Don't think about the entire project, or how the world will receive your book once it's finished. Concentrate on the scene in front of you, beat by beat, emotion by emotion. Get lost in the action. Then your writing will become a respite as well as a passion. As Ray Bradbury once said, "You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you."

Writing Great Fiction: Storytelling Tips and Techniques
During the pandemic, writing fiction has become my chief solace from the stress of quarantine (and everything else). I've found that active engagement with my current project—the creation of characters and scenes, or just tinkering with the prose—has calmed me much more than bingeing another series on HBO or eating too much (though I do those, too). And it's not just an escape: It's the place where I can take whatever I'm feeling at the moment and turn it into narrative.

Screenwriting 101: Mastering the Art of Story
I have a little insight into this because my next book is about how literature of all kinds—novels, poems, films—can help improve our mental health and well-being.
And a tip that comes from literature, and that’s backed by neuroscience, is gratitude. Gratitude shifts our focus away from ourselves, and it also shifts our negative emotions, which interfere with writerly flow, into positive emotions, which boost it. Gratitude isn’t always easy to conjure in times like these, of course. But one useful method for accessing it is what psychologists’ term “reframing.”
So, for example, when your lovely children are interrupting you, causing you to lose your train of thought, and possibly your mind, take a moment to think: How wonderful it is that I’m a parent. How lucky I am to have these kids. Recall a specific moment—as precisely as you can—when your kids popped your life with joy or wonder. And in that instant, your stress will drop, your calm will increase, you’ll be more effective at figuring out an effective way to give the kids a way to amuse themselves, and you’ll be more ready to write when you return to your keyboard.
Or, when you’re suffering from writer’s block, think: How lucky it is that I don’t need to write this novel, because I have so many wonderful novels already on my bookshelf. Then, go read one of those novels, immersing yourself in its flow. And as you get deep into that flow, you’ll often feel your block dissolve, allowing you to return to your own writing with a fresh energy and perspective.
Not every negative emotion can be converted like this, of course. When we suffer grief, it can’t be reframed away. Our brains need time to process sorrow and heal. But a great many self-doubts and daily frictions can be softened with gratitude. And no matter what happens to you in your life, you can always feel grateful for being a writer. For whatever the happening is, no matter how hard or painful it may be, you have been gifted a pen to take that happening and make some good of it.

Why “Daisuki Baby?”
When I first started dating my girlfriend in 2018, after the phrase, “I love you,” came out of my stupid mouth, it wasn’t long until we started using “daisuki” instead. Her being Japanese and me having an interest in Japanese culture, we speak Japanglish around the house all day long. Honestly I like Japanese better than English because you can communicate so much more with fewer words. At least that’s how I’ve taken it, which suits my personality very well. I try every day to increase my language skills and putting Japanese katakana on my merch isn’t some attempt at cultural appropriation.
“Daisuki Baby” essentially means “I love you, baby.” Or it can even be translated as a character named “Daisuki Baby.” Or maybe you read it more like Austin Powers: “Yeah, baby, I love it!” Whatever your take or your use of it, it involves deep love and admiration.
The entire process around my forthcoming album was a fever dream. Linking with James Mozina to write and arrange the tunes unlocked my potential. Recording drums and bass with Yona Pahima at the Hobby Shop gave me the groundwork to unleash my best abilities. Then having it mixed and mastered by Michael Hynes sent the whole project into the stratosphere, making it something I’m truly proud of to display for everyone to hear. Calling it “Daisuki Baby” was something artistic that came to me swiftly and was the theme guiding its entire creation. When my dog, Leo, passed away during the initial recording process, that title took on new meaning and as I continued to work on the songs, I could never escape the gravity of that phrase.
Top to bottom on the merch it reads: DA I SU KI BE I BI. “Dye-ski Bay-bee.”
“Daisuki Baby” is a proclamation. It’s an assertion that life is grand, beautiful and full of wonder. There’s a lot to love and with all that we love, we should love it hard and celebrate it whenever we can. When you wear this merch, you display a message of hope and positivity.
So if anyone ever asks, “What does it mean?” Tell ‘em, “I love you, baby.”
