I could never write on my phone, but for some reason that changed this year and my word counts exploded, so it got me thinking about how everyone else is doing this.
Will be reading tags/replies in case you say how it's affected your word counts!

Some Rito have officially joined the Botwcast lineup! I’m slowly working hermits into what is primarily a Yogscast au, and discovering totk lore is definitely giving me a lot to think about bdjfgbdgkb
Here’s an assortment of doodles featuring a bunch of random here-there stuff I’ve been thinking about for the au, ranging from important plot stuff to silly side-character shenanigans :]
Featuring (in order): Rito Grian (who may or may not be the stand-in for Tulin in totk), Rito False (Rito warrior!), Rito Lomadia (who becomes the rito elder by totk), botw Nano who’s infected by malice and swears she’s no more feral or violent than normal because of it, Stable owner Jimmy who’s NOT related to Grian despite what Grian keeps telling all of their friends, Stable owner Bdubs who claims to have the best horse stock in all of Hyrule, an updated Nano design for totk and Etho who has similar gloom scars, and… whatever Doc has going on. Haven’t figured out the logistics yet, but I think it’d be hilarious if what happened to link’s arm somehow happened to Doc’s face. I had to Doc-ificate his face somehow and this was too funny of a concept not to at least draw DFBJGB

How I've Won NaNo - Rebel Style
National Novel Writing Month - NaNo - is an event in November where writers aim to write 50K words towards the first draft of a novel. But the traditional way doesn't work for everyone! This is my 14th NaNo, and here are ways I've won other than 50K on a novel.
50K of fanfic
50 hours spent editing a novel
Completing an editing pass of a 68K novel
Completing a novella (30-50K)
50 hours of brainstorming characters, worlds, plots in an effort to refill a dry well
Get Her Done - lining up a list of WIPs and completing as many as possible, adding anywhere from 5K to 25K words to a story
Yes, traditionally you win NaNo by writing a brand-spanking new novel, holding aloft your 1st draft at midnight Dec 1st. But there are so many other ways to win! The goal is to make progress on a writing project, whatever that may be.

it's october 31st so it's time for my annual reminder that it's okay if you don't do NaNo.
it's a great event, with lots of benefits and a great, enthusiastic, built-in community. many, many people succeed in their goals in it. i was one of them once upon a time! i wrote blood of the true believer for nano, and everyone in my local chapter was fantastic as support. i try to chuck them a couple of bucks every year to help fund them, because i truly believe the event is largely beneficial.
but it burned me out. i couldn't write for months after. my manuscript went in my proverbial drawer and did not see the light of day for almost a year after.
50k words is a lot in 30 days, no matter what anyone tells you. some people can knock it out easily, some struggle with 10k in the same time. this kind of intensive writing event is not for everyone, for many different reasons. it's not a failure to not participate. it's not a failure to try and not finish or "win". give yourself a break if it's just not for you, no matter how many people around you might be enthusiastically jumping in.
there are often people doing NaNo-light events during november, for people who want the structure and camaraderie but find the word count requirements intimidating. i have run one a couple of times (i don't have time this year), and they can be equally rewarding experiences. if you do have one you host, feel free to add it to this post!
so do NaNo, or not, and don't worry what everyone else is doing. like any other tool meant to help writers be successful, you only need to use it if it works for you.
good luck everyone, whether you do NaNo or not, and write on!

A Summary of the allegations against Nanowrimo
A group of Rogue Writers have managed to assemble a list of the allegations that have come out against Nanowrimo in the last year, below.
Tumblr media
PROTECT KIDS FROM NANOWRIMO
NaNoWriMo and its staff have recently come under fire for their numerous unethical and predatory practices. These include, though are not limited to:
Hostility and inaction after numerous members raised child grooming allegations against a volunteer moderator who was in charge of teens within the NaNoWriMo forums.
Headquarters took nearly 2 months to quietly remove the accused moderator's leadership powers, and over 5 months to remove their account… which they only did after this former moderator threatened to damage NaNoWriMo's contract with an affiliate.
Refusal to protect kids in the Young Writer’s Program from predators. Kids were instead bullied and silenced by the staff.
Ivan the Icy, a scavenger hunt game that featured a terrorist-styled “supervillain” (which they admitted was a mistake).
Local organizers (called MLs) not being background checked, yet required to host in-person events with kids present.
Harboring volunteer MLs who were reported as racist, homophobic, transphobic, and/or abusive.
Ignoring and silencing MLs who begged for help regarding serious issues within the volunteer program. This resulted in at least one participant suffering an event-related assault.
Inaction when MLs abused fellow MLs with bullying and ableist discrimination.
Promoting multiple Vanity Presses (predatory, scam-like publishers), including Inkitt, even after outside sources confirmed and announced they were predatory.
Solicitation via email for donations from kids in the Young Writer's Program.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Do you know of a school or classroom participating in NaNoWriMo through the Young Writers Program website? Please bring these issues to their attention.
If you donate to the NaNoWriMo organization, stop. There are plenty of other charitable organizations far more worthy of your monetary support.
Continue enjoying the November writing challenge WITHOUT the NaNoWriMo organization. Many authors and writing groups have written 50k words in 30 days without even being aware that the organization exists.
Please share this post.

To commemorate King-Ohger ending this week, we subbed NANO's performance of Inferno (Gira's theme) at this year's Chou Eiyuu Sai.
A download link and a more-singable edit by our translator michaelele is available here.
