absolutely hate it when something stupid and negative somebody wrote on one of my positive fandom posts gets stuck in my head but like, i truly wish i'd asked the rando person who said they just Couldn't keep watching 13's era because of the constant put downs of men if they'd legitimately gotten her era and moffat era dw confused (which does, quite frankly, have a ~girls rule boys smell~ lean to it uncomfortably often) because that is simply preferable to the alternative that they meant it and genuinely think that men Not being front and centre is an affront to men and that they couldn't deal with it. But I blocked them bc Be Real. But I regret not asking even though I strongly suspect that the answer would have given me a headache.

Why aren’t there seemingly any Krakoa era-esque stories based in Wakanda, where the creator goes deep on the world-building for the nation and it’s relationship with the wider Marvel universe? Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like most Black Panther books are basically always just “who is T’Challa if he isn’t King” or “why T’Challa is the worst” type stories. They’re boring and uninspired, give me my nerdy shit Marvel!!!
I think you've missed some key issues, because there's definitely been some that cover world-building about Wakanda's relationship with Krakoa.
Tumblr media
From the beginning of HOXPOX, Hickman established that Wakanda had a unique relationship with Krakoa - while most human nations signed trade deals with the mutant nation-state, some did not due to ideological or geostrategic opposition. Alone in the world, Wakanda (and its protectorates in east Africa) didn't sign a trade deal with Krakoa because it was so technologically advanced that it simply didn't need anything Krakoa was selling.
This was a source of consternation for the Krakoan government, so they went to some lengths to try to bring Wakanda into their diplomatic-economic orbit - as we see in X-Men #4. These efforts were politely rejected, as the Wakandans preferred a more arms-length relationship in which Krakoan-Wakandan relations would be managed through bilateral monarchical negotiations between T'challa and Ororo Monroe, leveraging their personal connections to promote a friendly policy of non-interference.
Tumblr media
This status quo broke down during the Arraki-Amenthi invasion of Otherworld, which threatened the very existence of Krakoa and indeed the survival of the whole world. As part of Saturnyne's scheme to foil the invasion through a tournament of sword-bearers, Storm was tasked with retrieving the Wakandan blade Skybreaker. This vibranium weapon was uniquely suited to Storm's powers, amplifying her omega weather control powers even further, but it was also sacred to Wakanda as it was also the weapon forged by the founder of their nation and the Black Panther cult.
Tumblr media
Thus, when Ororo traveled to Wakanda to ask for the sword in Marauders #13, T'challa did not want to give it to her - but rather than refuse her outright, he attempted to stall negotiations and avoid the confrontation. With a literal deadline for Krakoa, Otherworld, and Earth itself breathing down her neck, Storm was unwilling to wait and broke into the royal vaults to steal Skybreaker. While T'challa ultimately let Ororo leave with the weapon, trust between the two of them and their respective nations was broken - and Wakanda cut ties with Krakoa, although it never declared formal enmity with the mutant nation.
Tumblr media
At the same time, neither country could totally isolate themselves from the other - especially after Krakoa terraformed Mars at the first Hellfire Gala and turned it into a new homeland for Arrako and her people. Through the joint efforts of S.W.O.R.D and Storm, Arrako would become the diplomatic nexus for intergalatic politics and Krakoa the new foundation of intergalactic monetary policy - something that had enormous ramifications for the Intergalatic Empire of Wakanda.
This ushered in something of a cold war between the two nations, who had to maintain formal diplomatic and economic channels, but who secretly engaged in espionage against the other in order to gain intelligence as to what their counterparts were up to, since they no longer trusted the other to give them an honest answer directly. This caused a great deal of tension for Wakandan citizens who were mutants, as they became the obvious candidates to spy on Krakoa and Arrako for Wakanda.
As depicted in Black Panther #3 and X-Men Red #4, the former X-Man Nezhno Abidemi, aka Gentle, was recruited by T'challa to be one of his sleeper agents. Using the very real anti-mutant prejudice Abidemi experienced growing up in Wakanda as cover, Gentle spied on Ororo Monroe in her capacity as the new Regent of Arrako and Voice of Sol on behalf of the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda.
Tumblr media
Because Storm isn't an idiot, she quickly uncovered Gentle as an agent, but left him in place as a backchannel between their two countries, although the deception further strained the personal ties between her and T'challa. As both of them are professionals, this didn't stop Arrako and Wakanda collaborating diplomatically to forestall a Shi'ar civil war.
Tumblr media
When Krakoa fell, ORCHIS attempted to take advantage of the situation and Wakanda's presumed anti-mutant sympathies. In Wolverine #39, we see that the ORCHIS operative Jun Wei was dispatched to Wakanda to work out a Vibranium-for-Sentinels agreement. When Prime Minister Folasade rejected the offer, Jun Wei turned to the criminal gangs of Birnin T'chaka to get ORCHIS' hands on rare earth metals - only to be foiled by the joint efforts of Logan and T'challa.

"The one with the skinny suit. Then I wore a bow tie, then I was a Scotsman, then a woman."
"And now you've got your face back."
And now. You've got. Your face back.
Well, if that doesn't sum it all up.
Yeah, I had a look. Can't talk without knowing, right? Spoilers ahead for The Star Beast.
The episode starts with a really truly I-can't-believe-they-thought-this-was-necessary Disney-friendly opening that explains The Doctor and Donna's connection, as if the show didn't exist before it aired on their service. That's what it's saying now: this is the only important information you need. Whatever came before is irrelevant. You won't be seeing it on this streaming service anyway.
Bringing up Donna Noble, right after leaving Yaz behind with the regeneration, calling her "My best friend in the whole wide world" is...ouch. That hurts. As if nothing that went on before or anyone they knew or cared about (as 13) was even a thing. It won't be for the Disney audience and all the kids tuning in for the first time and they know it.
13 is already an aberration, like Missy. A reboot experiment that will be easy to ignore. Now, we're back on track!
The Doctor has got HIS face back! And everybody's funny! We can laugh again!
Alright, no need to rub it in, Space Man. It really is a shame how 13's era was so dry (lesson-heavy, even) but so much more expansive with story ideas, while 10's period was full of humor and pure silliness that doesn't stick around in the memory very long. Some irony there I think.
Now the rough bit. Going to do it like a bandage and just tear it off because it's starting to itch:
For an episode that lays on the trans-positivity, it hits a sticky spot (and this is more meta than the meta crisis, so take with a pinch of something salty): can we talk about 13, or would that be a kind of dead-naming? The answer should be obvious, right, but there's an awkward and unspoken (and probably not deliberate) juxtaposition of 13 with Rose: we're reminded she deserves love and respect and how her bullies dead-naming her is shit, so the show completely erasing any references to 13 (the one time the Doctor visibly transitioned into a woman) in the same episode, is...um, well, I said awkward already. Are we supposed to just leave 13 in the past as something that wasn't true to who the Doctor really is? The Doctor regenerating into an old self, in their old clothes, even with a completely different sonic, no glimpse of 13's Tardis? Same performance? No sense of who they were before? Not even an acknowledgement of the clothes regenerating? We can call it convenience for Disney's sake, but it feels like what the Master called it: erasure.
I believe Davies, living in the midst of Terf Country, wants to do right by the queer community and stick it to anyone who believes we are less or should not exist and that is awesome. But he also led this...what, misogynistic? erasure of 13 (something deeply misogynistic fans of the show who never wanted a woman in the role in the first place are happy about, and fuck them) and if his walk doesn't follow his talk? Sorry, but we've been here before.
And it's not like the Doctor is particularly bothered with having the old face back (Rose would probably be horrified if such a thing happened to her), and Donna later bringing up "if you were still a woman" at the end is...more messiness. I mean, we know the Doctor regenerates, but this is different: we've gone backward, male-presenting-only. The first (and second) female Doctor is followed by two more men. Because there hasn't been enough of that particular image. No negative message intended, right, but there's one all the same and it's...messy. It's awkward. I hope they know it and I hope there is some proper acknowledgment before we get to the next regeneration. Just not counting on it.
Speaking of Donna and messy, she can go from adoring her daughter, willing to defend her to the death, to calling the Meep a "ferret from Mars" and insinuating they could sell it...and that was before she knew the Meep wasn't exactly a cuddly furry. Just underlines her previous conversation with her mom about failures in language (and tolerance) as being, well, really something straight white folks really need to work on.
Among other things.
The episode is filled with "lessons" on pronouns and disability (who is the lesson for? Disney audiences?): "don't make me the problem" is a great point, but then begs the question: why didn't they just put up a ramp to the ship? Answer: no opportunity to teach...and that kind of gets thrown out when everyone has to climb a ladder...and later, when there's an elevator in the building...missed that. Oh well. "Confused but got the spirit" is there and maybe a little OTT, but there's also the part where RTD is setting up what to expect as we move into Gatwa's era and Disney had better be on board. They're not known for hanging on to overtly queer shows (DW has got to be a big investment for them, though, so here's hoping they just keep making it queerer and weirder and let Disney stew in their discomfort).
And it's got all of RTD's signature silliness and an emotional 10 showboat moment (how is this "14?" Again, there's no difference in the performance at all) and I bet everyone who started watching in 2006 is just trembling all over that the Good Old Days are back (let's face it: people just like Tennant and Tate as a duo. They're great. Some are also ageist and chauvinist dicks about 12 and 13, so, again, fuck them).
And destiny is a thing. And reversing catastrophic geological damage with a few switches is a thing. No stakes, just the old fun, for old time's sake.
No pun intended.
Only with more explosions and shoot-outs (and a sonic doing decidedly non-sonic stuff): Marvel fans will love this. Blue Beetle fans? Probably not so much.
This show has always fed off of its own nostalgia, even if each regeneration means moving on to something different. But the same. Kind of. Now they've got Disney money and while I don't feel this is a full reset, kicking off from where 10 and Donna left off (again, as if nothing happened between now and then and no one else was around who mattered), is...well, if destiny is a thing and this show was always heading in Disney's direction, I guess no other Doctors needed to have happened after Tennant.
It doesn't exactly setup Gatwa for success, is what I'm saying.
"Why did this face come back? To say goodbye."
The Doctor does that. A LOT.
"Binary...non-binary" is a choice here and it adds to that earlier stickiness: Rose *choosing* her name, her very existence even, isn't about her being trans, it's about her being a result of the meta-crisis. Interesting.
The "The Doctor is male and female and neither" is also kind of hilarious given the earlier point that there is now no evidence of 13: not her clothes, not her sonic, not her Tardis. In prior regenerations, the Tardis changes due to damage from the regeneration energy. That didn't happen with 13. The previous sonic always shows up, too, until it breaks. So...well, it's beating a dead horse now, isn't it? Good for the goose, but the gander is something else. It's kind of a "do as I say not as I do" kind of thing.
Not even Donna bringing up how The Doctor was a woman for a hot second, not even the "male-presenting" Doctor suddenly "not understanding" (because the Doctor, in their male body, no matter the circumstances, cannot understand any of this and wait...did the show imply The Doctor is *not* non-binary? What?), makes this any less messy.
Yeah, this is important right now. How are you going to be this earnest with the Lesson about Representation (which would be kind of glorious otherwise, especially on Disney), and just gloss over the visual erasure of 13 and all the baggage that comes with that?
"Do something completely new and have some friends."
I hope Yaz is somewhere, with her support group of former companions, rolling her eyes and working on her affirmations.

“What we do know for a fact is that when he says in interviews that he got into music at 12-13 by listening to Oasis, that's a blatent lie.” Didn’t he say his first band that he has tattooed covered Green Day and Oasis songs? Also Louis is not the only 1D member that likes Oasis… their songs are classics in their part of the world, it tracks that’s how he got into music even if he listened to other stuff that was popular at the time. Much how teenagers in America got into rock music listening to bands like Guns N Roses.
Also if you actually listen to Oasis, they aren’t a “bloody realism” band. In fact, the quite opposite. Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher hated Nirvana and Liam said about them that “music should be uplifting.” Which if it sounds familiar, it’s the way FITF was written. Listen to the songs Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Stand By Me, Live Forever, they sound all very Louis to me in a way!
Hi, anon!
Yes, Louis has said that. He's also said his kid is his and that he's straight. It's all about curating his image and trying to seem cool to a particular target group.
The fact is that we know, because there is evidence out there, that the Rogue did at least one (or two, depending how you count) cover songs. I got a feeling by the Black Eyed Peas (it's on YouTube last time i checked) and Look After You by the Fray (it's vocals by Louis but one of the other The Rogue members produced it). I wouldn't be surprised if they also covered Wonderwall or American Idiot, but i think Louis is trying to bend the truth here. I think they covered popular songs and more pop/pop rock songs than punk rock/britpop/indie songs. They were 14 and performed at school.
At his txf audition he sang Hey there Delilah by plain white Ts and Elvis ain't dead by Scouting for girls which is, according to wikipedia lol, emo-pop and pop rock. It's all very much in the pop genre to me.
I also didn’t say "bloody realism" i said "broody realism". Both the Gal*agher brothers seems like miserable people to me. They write about their working class experience and yeah, maybe it's got an "hey, things are shit, but pull yourself together" vibe about it.
I'm not saying Louis doesn’t enjoy these bands at all, he probably does. What i'm saying is that he's grossly exaggerating and emphasising how much he was into them as a kid. There is no reference of him being into them pre 2020, no posters on bedroom walls in old pics, no band t-shirts, and no trying to emulate them in any way (clothes or style) and no mention of them until now when he's trying to break into the indie scene and revive the britpop era. Louis wasn't an indie kid who found meaning at 14 in songs like Stop Crying Your Heart Out. He listened to the Fray, the Script and Nickleback and liked a variety of top 40 songs. But that's not very cool to say when you're trying to come off as indie and appeal to men who's music taste is pretentious, now is it... hence this rewriting of history were currently exposed to.
Wouldn't it be great if Louis actually owned the fact that he was the biggest S club 7 fan as a kid and that he listens to ABBA? He can do that while also appricate britpop music, alt rock and indie music. That would be genuine and that would be the truth.

Some of y’all… So here are my HC based entirely on the books, as someone who’s adored the series since middle school
Frodo had no interest in ANYONE (aro or ace,) , so he threw his whole thing into his friendships.
Samwise’s heart only belonged to Rosie the barmaid, he’s loyal as shit too so if he shows any interest in anyone else he wouldn’t act on it even under duress in hopes he’d win her over, he mentions her in the beginning as more of a “i want to court her, think she will take me? She’s so pretty” and he asks her out at the end and the epilogue details they had 13 kids) but he still made sure his friends were loved and adored, putting everything he had into friendships as well.
Legolas and gimli were likely to end up together in ways Victorian gay men did (John Tolkien was born at the end of the Victorian period, dying in the 70’s, but he was Victorian at heart) Legolas even taking gimli to him to elf Heaven as a +1.
Pippin and Merry were in their exploration era, (being developmentally older adolescent and young adults) so it’s hard to say what they really feel in the text, who the hell ends up with their Highschool sweetheart anyways, if they did anything i don’t think it lasts.
Bilbo is aro to me. He has so little interest in romance he adopts his cousin to inherit everything cuz he hates the rest of everyone that much.
Gandalf…. Does whatever he wants he’s basically a timeless being made to serve the demi-gods of the realm that aren’t even on middle earth man. But i see him as being married to the work.

why is the eleventh doctor your favorite? /gen
i was gonna try n be funny like "cos he's just like me fr" but anyways its a mix of reasons honestly!
a big one is i just have a lot of fond formative memories tied up with that era so there's a nostalgia element. especially because I feel that was the height of dw's popularity in recent memory so it was really fun to be a fan at that time, particularly around the 50th anniversary. idk if I've ever had more fun as a who fan than being a who fan between 2010-13. if you weren't a fan or involved with the fandom then, it's one of those things that's hard to explain because it really was event television.
and then there's um............[checks notes] i'm bisexual and matt smith, karen gillan, alex kingston, arthur darvil, jenna coleman, etc. they were all, you know, very beautiful and adorable and talented and sometimes right? sometimes............i just watch things with my coochie as much as my eyes. also, i now recognise that i had immense gender envy for the 11th doctor so there's that too.
there's obviously some bias in this next part but i genuinely think that matt smith's performance as eleven is insanely good. the way he totally embodied the "old man pretending to be young cos his body is young" complex sooooo well. like the way he could drop that silly goofy awkwardness facade and switch to just being an angry vengeful old man was really haunting honestly. i remember reading a quote from someone that was like, "matt smith plays the Doctor like a young man built by old men from half-forgotten memories" or something and it's so true.
he also just had really fun chemistry with literally every person/character (i BEG ppl to watch eleven’s guest appearence on sarah jane adventures because the way he interacts with sarah and jo is absolutely perfect!! i fucking CRY). obviously he’s from the only Doctor Actor™️ to do this well (Capaldi and Tennant also do this compellingly), but he made it very easy to believe that you were watching the Doctor, the same character that's been here the whole time, and not just a version or interpretation of the Doctor in the moment. a joy to watch as someone who grew up with classic who!!
and eleven is just..........kind, you know? like. yeah he got grumpy and genocided some bitches but that's just the gig being the doctor. eleven and his era was just so full of love and wasn't afraid of that and i loved it!! i love 12's era for this too ftr. like if I could travel with any of the current Doctors, I'd pick 11 or 12 because they're kind, not always nice, but kind!!
He’s a great Doctor, especially considering some of the nonsense material moffat wrote. the whole first half of season 7 and middle of season 6 has some of the most mediocre writing in the show’s history, but matt smith did an amazing job of making it fun and compelling anyway and idk if he always gets the credit he should for that.
I think it’s easier to be a great doctor when you have great material to work with (Eccleston and Tennant), or easy to just roll with whatever content you’re given because fuck it (Whittaker), but Capaldi and Smith did not have good shit to work with a lot of the time, and they put their whole hearts into being a great character anyway, even at the show’s lower points. i’ll always walk through fire for them both for doing that. but especially eleven, because that’s my blorbo, my manic pixie mass murderer 🥺🥰

*whispers* I would like to hear what you have to say on reader inserts in the SW fandom because I too have a problem with them and I feel like not enough people are calling it out 👉👈
I’ve made a few posts about it in the past but I think it’s high time I actually Do This and really get into it.
Before I start: 1) This will be in specific reference to fanfiction written for the Star Wars fandom, particularly tcw and the mandalorian eras, 2) A lot of the issues come down to racist fetishization of men of color by white women; I am white, so there is much that is simply not my place to make statements on. What I can speak most on is my take from the gender side of things.
I’d honestly recommend reading this post by @nibeul with addition by @clonehub first, as they discuss the core issue with reader inserts in the Star Wars fandom.
And 3) some of this will involve discussion of sexual acts (as they relate to fanfiction) and sexual fantasies. These discussions will be non-explicit, and no pornographic text or content will be displayed.
Also. I’m GNC and nonbinary. I’m also a very feminine looking person that falls under the generalization of “small and petite.” I don’t have dysphoria, I like my body and the traits I have, and treating them like inherently female sends me into a blind fury. This is, unfortunately, important.
For the sake of making sure I come across as clearly as possible, I will be writing as though the reader of this post has never read or is broadly unfamiliar with reader-insert fanfiction.
Without further ado.
Hey, Star Wars reader insert fic writers? Please get your shit together.
INTRODUCTION
I’ve been reading reader-insert fanfiction since I was a grade schooler waking up early to check Quizilla. I love it! It got me into fandom, kept me engaged, helped me make and develop some of my oldest OCs, and it’s just fun to read and write- it’s like a self-indulgent little gift you can give to a bunch of people all at once. Because who doesn’t like the idea of starring in their own little adventure, usually alongside some of their favorite characters? It can be fun, immersive, get you attached in ways other ways of fandom interaction may not, make you feel just a little bit special, or be a way to express some feelings you might have about canon and the way the story went.
Like any form of fiction, it ends up saying more about the author’s feelings than anything else, whether the author realizes it or not. For many, many authors of reader-insert fanfiction, the primary enjoyment comes from writing “themselves” into the story- before the readers, the author most often makes the “reader character” someone they, themselves, can relate to and substitute for themselves. They write to live out a self-indulgent fantasy they have, and their readers can come along for the ride.
Some writers do actually try to write as diverse or as vague of a reader character as possible- as few details about the body, identity, etc. as possible so anyone could superimpose their image without the narrative directly contradicting it. This is not the kind of reader insert author I will be discussing.
The kind of author I will be discussing is the one most common in the Star Wars tag on Ao3: White, AFAB, cisgender, gender-conforming, able-bodied women who assume all of their readers are also White, AFAB, cisgender, gender-conforming, able-bodied women. Yes, you can tell.
ISSUE: fetishization of men of color
Again, this post puts it in the best words, but there is a rampant problem with Star Wars reader-inserts, particularly those involving the clones, Boba Fett, and Din Djarin, fetishizing characters played by men of color as either “physically aggressive and threatening, hypersexual and dominant, big strong men who are scary because they do violence and fuck constantly when they’re not” or “completely inexperienced baby who doesn’t know anything about things and needs a gentle nurturing guiding touch to introduce him to the mere idea of a vagina.” The former is common across all of them, the latter most common among clone trooper fics or Din/Reader.
I went into the Boba Fett/Reader tag on Ao3, because I like him and hoped to find something alright. Here are some stats I tallied up (give or take some) based solely on tags, summaries, and warnings:
There are 284 works in the Boba Fett/Reader category as of the time of this post.
198/284 are rated E for explicit sexual content. 69.7% of all Boba Fett/Reader works are sexually explicit.
259/284 are in the F/M category. 91.2% of all Boba Fett/Reader works involve an explicitly female or AFAB reader.
24/284 are tagged with or mention “Age difference,” “Older man/Younger woman,” “Innocence kink” or “Virginity kink.” 8.4% of all Boba Fett/Reader works are written explicitly with an age gap, with Boba Fett as the older party
26/198 E rated fics are tagged with or make reference to “Daddy kink” or involve the reader being called some variation of “little girl” by Boba. 13% of all E-rated works under Boba Fett/Reader are daddy kink fics, or allude to Boba Fett being a daddy dom/sugar daddy.
102/198 E rated fics are tagged as, make reference to, or suggest in the summary that Boba Fett takes a dominant sexual role with a submissive reader involving rough or painful play, or make reference to Boba Fett being frightening, physically intimidating, having a power dynamic over the reader, or being possessive or violent. 51.51% of all E-rated works under Boba Fett/Reader portray Boba Fett as sexually dominant and/or enacting use of physical force or pain play.
Just using this as an example, because it’s the easiest stats I can gather and also what made me realize there was a pattern.
The problem isn’t even necessarily that people write explicit fic about Boba- it’s that 1) over half of all fics in the category are explicitly pornographic, and 2) the way those pornographic fics are written. The two things compound on each other. They’re dominance fantasies projected onto a character of color in which he becomes extremely sexual, physically rough with the reader, possessive, and demeaning towards a reader character who is always written as White, AFAB, and petite.
This brings me to the next issue.
ISSUE: The way sexual relationships are portrayed.
Let me clarify so there is no chance of me being misunderstood: sex is good. Liking and wanting and enjoying sex isn’t bad. It is not bad if you are AFAB and have submissive fantasies. It is not bad to be sexually attracted to a man of color. You can write about sex even if you haven’t had it. Writing about sex can be a good way to express some more complicated feelings you could have about certain things. It doesn’t even have to be realistic. It has its time and it has its place.
This being said.
Sexual relationships as they are portrayed in the vast majority of E-rated Star Wars reader inserts are… not great.
The reader is always AFAB. I can think of maybe one fic off the top of my head where an AFAB reader was written with they/them pronouns and not just she/her.
The reader is almost always submissive, the dominant character is almost always portrayed as cis male. Even when the characters are supposed to just be having spontaneous casual sex, D/S or BDSM aspects will be introduced with no prior discussion or talks about it afterwards. Sometimes characters will start using dirty talk and it just does not fit at all, but it’s what the author thought was hot.
Sometimes, it just reads like a quick smutty oneshot. More often than that, it reads like the author doesn’t realize that sex… isn’t always a dom/sub thing. Or that someone can take the lead in sex and that doesn’t automatically make them a dom.
It’s not bad to be inexperienced. It’s not bad to have preferences or kinks or specific turn-ons.
But it gets… tiring to read, over and over and over and over, because that’s all there is.
That and… I dunno, it just has me a little worried? It doesn’t make me feel good knowing so many people can only portray a sexual relationship if it’s dom/sub. I don’t know why it makes me so uneasy.
Vanilla sex isn’t a bad thing I promise. It's this feeling of insistence that something "spicy" absolutely has to happen for it to be worth writing that gives... some weird vibes.
I’m going to move on to the next Big-
ISSUE: Every “reader” character is exactly the same
By which I mean the following:
Always cis AFAB female
If a character is written with gender neutral pronouns they will always be AFAB and written like Girl Lite
I have never seen an explicitly stated nonbinary/gnc reader character unless it was a request specifically for a nonbinary reader
I have never seen a gender neutral reader insert fic where the reader was AMAB
I have seen a grand total of 1 cis male reader fic and 1 trans male reader fic. The trans male reader fic was about dysphoria.
The reader is allowed to have one of the following backstories: slave/runaway, mechanic, medic, ex-Rebel, secret Jedi, bounty hunter.
The reader is allowed to have one of the following personality traits: throws knives, babysitter, completely civilian, WOMAN, says curse words.
The reader is never written with any narrative agency- things only ever happen to the reader character or around the reader character, they are never written to take charge and actually affect things on their own. Essentially the sexy lamp trope.
Remember when I said the majority of people writing Star Wars reader-insert fanfic on Ao3 were White, cisgender AFAB women who are gender-conforming and able-bodied? This is how you can tell.
It’s at this point where you can tell they’re really not meant to be reader-inserts, but author-inserts with the names removed- they were only meant for a very narrow selection of readers.
I’m nonbinary, I’m gnc, and I’m a very feminine looking person, generally speaking. I’m used to people looking at me and assuming oh, girl. I’m at peace with that.
I can barely stand reading some of these fics just because of how much the author emphasizes that the reader is FEMALE shes a WOMAN with BOOBS and a VAGINA and FEMININE WILES. There’s barely ever even a chance to give myself room to mentally vault over all the “she”s and “her”s because then I’m getting hit with Din or someone calling the reader “girl” or “the woman.” It’s unbearable, and I even fall into the general description every fucking fic author uses for their generic protagonist!
Even with the “gender-neutral reader” fics, it is just. Painfully clear that they just wrote a female character and changed the pronouns- no, there is no such thing as “male behavior” or “female behavior,” and I quite heartily rebel against the concept of gender essentialism. And honestly, I can barely even begin piecing together how I know it and what it feels like, because it’s just one of those vague conglomerates of cues and writing patterns I can’t consciously pick up on but I know it’s there- it’s frustrating, it’s demeaning, and it feels like you’d have to threaten these authors at gunpoint to get them to write a reader character who was any major deviation from the same three cutouts they use every time.
It seems like they can’t possibly force themselves to write a reader character who isn’t meek and submissive or has the sole personality traits of “mean and can hit things”- you can actually strike a balance between “absolutely no personality” and “fleshed out oc” you know? And you don’t actually have to tell the reader what their hair looks like or how full their figure is
It’s like 2:20 AM and I started this at like 8something PM but.
I’m someone who loves reader-inserts. I enjoy them. I still check for new ones regularly. I’ve been reading them for well over half my life now.
So many of these authors are just locked in on exactly one way to write things and it fucking shows. It’s like a self-feeding loop, they just keep writing the same things and the same dynamics because they see each other doing it and they never think about taking a step back.
It’s… exhausting. I’m exhausted. If you’re a reader-insert fic writer and you want to improve your reader character inclusivity and have also read this far, you can DM me or shoot me an ask.

What was 13's pro cop episode? I can believe that it happened, I just do not recall.
wasn't necessarily a pro-cop Episode, but in rosa while ryan mentions being profiled by police, yaz steps in to say that she wouldn't do that as a cop. and like i love yaz (helps that we almost never see her doing cop shit lmao) and overall enjoy that episode but that moment just sticks out like a sore thumb to me
this whole era feels like the show's lost its anti-authoritarian edge, which is really unfortunate. the doctor handwaves space amazon abusing its workers, she barely lifts a finger to stop corrupt men in power like jack robertson in arachnids or daniel barton in spyfall from getting away, and we've now fully retconned her from being just an ordinary renegade who thought time lord society sucked to the most important person in gallifreyan history and the sole reason time lords even exist. i just want doctor who to be some girl who punches racists again

In some kinds of anglerfish, the male mates with the female by biting into her belly and basically burying his snout inside her skin until they fuse together. She provides him with nutrients, he provides her with sperm to procreate.

opera - how do you know you have a crush?
when i start feeling the need to listen to really sappy music and take 2 hour long aimless walks with my hands in my pockets stomping my feet unneccesarily hard on the ground like im 13
k-pop - what is something you never understood?
i actually still have issues reading analog clocks. i never really learned but i mean. who cares. they didnt invent the digital ones for nothing.

putting this under a read more for reasons
Tumblr media
MEN 2010 – 2016
literally nothing more embarrassing than falling on the same type of white man over and over again (with the exception of minho from shinee bless his heart)
tommy joe ratliff → he was the bass player for adam lambert during his glamnation era (think of songs like for your entertainment and if i had you) idk why exactly i liked him so much but i just did.... however i searched him up again quite recently and found out he’s one of those republicans that says the dumbest shit on twitter so Big Yikes
harry styles → “baby you light up my world like nobody else, the way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed, and when you smile at the ground it ain’t hard to tell...” and BOOM 13-year-old me was sold for well over two years
louis tomlinson → basically i liked harry most until around 2013 when for some reason i started to like him a little less, and i got more focused on louis tomlinson, and although i didn’t like one direction anymore louis tomlinson always had a special place in my heart
ashton irwin → so ashton is 5sos’ drummer, i discovered 5sos through one direction & i stanned them until late 2014
harries twins → the harries twins (jack & finn) are basically the reason i started spending a lot of time on youtube, they were funny and pretty and they just had good videos in general, so for almost two years i’d watch their content regularly
choi minho → my first steps into kpop happened bc i was watching videos on youtube (most probably the harries twins) and suddenly i saw the sherlock mv in my recommended videos so i clicked on it and then 14-year-old me proceeded to fall for minho like an idiot
brooks twins → still youtubers, the brooks twins were 3/5 of the janoskians (jai & luke brooks, beau brooks, daniel sahyounie, & james yammouni), an australian youtube comedy group that was active from 2011-2018 though i was only around from 2012-2014 (when jai brooks was dating ariana grande)
jc caylen → surprise! another youtuber! jc caylen was part of o2l (our2ndlife) a youtube collaboration channel on which each of the 6 members posted videos on a certain day in the week (mondays with connor, tuesdays with ricky, wednesdays with sam, thursdays with jc, fridays with trevi (my 2nd favorite member bc she participated on the x factor), saturdays with ricardo, and then they had surprise sundays every week) and i remember how much joy jc & the others always brought me with their silly videos
misha collins → up next, you might know him as the gay angel that was sent to superhell after confessing his love to the homophobic hunter on supernatural, it’s misha collins! basically misha was a huge source of comfort for me, and i even went around calling myself emmisha for almost two full years (cringe)
henrik holm → he played even bech naesheim in skam and my crush on him reached that level of ridiculousness where i actually tried my hand at learning norwegian (i can only remember how to introduce myself and some curse words i would make a great first impression on him)
Tumblr media
MEN 2016 – 2021
min yoongi → okay so my baby steps into kpop happened through shinee’s sherlock, but i only got really invested when yoongi dropped agust d 1 because Holy Fuck y’know??
kim namjoon → oh man i remember thinking namjoon was cute and a very good leader and then BAM he dressed like THAT at the 2016 mma’s and i fell in love. hard
park seojoon → i started liking park seojoon whilst i was watching hwarang (you guessed it, i watched it bc of taehyung), although he wasn’t my favorite character by far, but he was very silly off camera & i liked that (i’m not that into him anymore tho </3)
kim seokjin → OH BOY LET ME TELL U i liked seokjin from the very beginning (i got to know bts in late 2014) and i always liked seeing him perform and be himself and god once i realized i had a crush on him it just hit me like a mf truck, and he’s still one of my favorite people to this day
jung hoseok → god fake love era hoseok really hits different.... also yes i know i have all of bts’ hyung line on my list BUT bts was a really big part of my life for almost 6 years soooo honestly they deserve it i still think they’re great guys
choi san → when ateez made their debut in 2018 i immediately fell in love with san, he was such an amazing dancer and he captivated me right from the very beginning, to this day he’s still my bias in ateez uwu
xiao zhan → AND THEN, OCTOBER OF 2019 HAPPENS AND I WATCH CQL AND... i fall in love with xiao zhan, something i’d never expected would happen bc when i watched cql for the first time i wasn’t as invested in the story, but i really really really liked xiao zhan and one thing led to another and now here i am as a xfx
wang yibo → the thing is, i’ve known yibo since eoeo except i didn’t know cql yibo was uniq yibo (bc i’d forgotten his name) and when i looked it up i can tell you my jaw dropped to the floor bc holy shit????? also he is very silly and i love him loads ok
lee minho → ah, the man who has been my skz bias since 2018, not only is minho my bias i also kin him (there’s a lot of aspects of myself that i see in minho and vice versa) and he’s very comforting to me
bang chan → honestly, it was only a matter of time before i’d fall for bang chan, i knew the moment i got into skz again that i’d start biasing him and, well, here i am, double biasing chan & minho
Tumblr media
WOMEN
this list is shorter bc i’ve in general always had less crushes on women than on men??? blame society forcing me into thinking i was straight for a LONG time
ariana grande → remember the 2011 layout of twitter?? where u could not only have an icon and a header, but also a background and ur twitter page was smack in the center of ur screen with the big ugly menu bar at the top??? yeah ariana grande was always my background for my l*rr* st*l*n*s*n layouts
perrie edwards → this was right around the time she was dating zayn & little mix was breaking out into the spotlight, yeah i just really loved her
andrea russett → okay so remember o2l?? andrea russett was kian’s girlfriend for a pretty long time and they always did videos together and i always thought she was super pretty
lily collins → maybe i don’t like clary in tmi all that much but i sure liked the way lily collins looked
alona tal → MY BISEXUAL AWAKENING, it’s only when i saw alona tal in spn that i realized, fuck i might be gay
park jihyo → i discovered twice (my 2nd jype group after day6) through the like ooh-ahh mv and red-haired jihyo really did something to my heart (i just rewatched it and god zombie bang chan is so mf cute)
kim jisoo → when bp made their square two comeback i was immediately smitten for red-haired jisoo in playing with fire, it’s also when i realized she was my bias out of the four members
shin ryujin → the reason that i have blue hair is partially bc of ryujin and her amazing intro in wannabe :D
xuan lu → her portrayal of jiang yanli was SO ON POINT and she’s just such a kindhearted wonderful person wow i want her hand in marriage
lee yoobin → god i’ve known dreamcatcher from back when they were still called minx and ever since i’ve always looked at dami that bit more than the rest, i was also able to see dreamcatcher live in october of 2019 and the whole experience was just so amazing !!
Tumblr media
FICTIONAL CHARACTERS
there’s a whole lot more than just these 10 but i wanted to fit the evolution into one (1) slide as best as i could lmao
peter pan → this movie came out in 2003 (?) and he’s honestly the first fictional character i remember ever having a crush on
legolas → i was really doubting between placing haldir or legolas here but i only really got a vague haldir obsession when i was like 14
zuko → LOOK. ZUKO IN ATLA? HOT. ZUKO IN LOK? HOT EVEN IF HE’S AN OLD MAN.
will turner → man was annoying sometimes but i really liked him and his relationship with elizabeth was cute
jo harvelle → gosh i can’t believe she’s the only female character in here???? yeah she was one of my two spn faves and i’ll never forgive the screenwriters for the way they killed her off
castiel → does your fave ever get sent to super hell for being gay? no? well. mine did
kili → fili and kili’s storyline tore my heart out, spit on it, and then laughed straight in my face, KILI WAS LITERALLY MY FAVORITE DWARF
howl → i only watched this movie for the first time in 2020 so i kinda fucked up the tl cause i watched cql in 2019 but shh, anyways howl with his blonde hair was good looking but howl with his black hair just hits differently. i want a howl
lan jingyi → MY BABY BOY, TINIE LITTLE BABIE WHOMST I MUST PROTECT ok no but seriously this kid. i love him a lot
mu qing → BARK BARK. that’s all (that’s not all i love him a whole lot and it hurts me to see so many people misunderstand his character and only see the bad parts of him when they can forgive others for fucking up (eg. xie lian himself & feng xin) but bc mu qing doesn’t deal well with emotions suddenly he’s the bad guy??? i s2g if ppl are gonna do to him what they did to jiang cheng in the tgcf la i will RIOT)

Fic Writer Questions
thanks to @venhedish for the tag, this actually got me thinking on a few things lmao
1 ) How many works do you have on AO3?
currently 17, will probably add no 18 tonight. there’s also a bunch only published on ff.net (from when i wasn’t on AO3 yet) and yet another motherload of self-indulgent shit rotting on my hard drive.
2 ) What’s your total AO3 word count?
80781 words, about 60k of that from this year alone. i took a major break from writing 2010ish and really just got back into it during quarantine last year.
3 ) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
7 on AO3. Supernatural, The Last Ship, Walker 2021, Men’s Hockey RPF, TVD, Graceland, Chicago Fire. for purposes of saving myself the embarrassment, we’ll limit this answer to just the AO3 stuff. 😂
4 ) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
ooooh boy, maybe a little embarrassment after all.
A Trip to the South (TVD)
hey lookie, my incest glorifying days did not actually start with SPN lol. Salvatore brothers feeding together, blood sharing and enjoying it. I blame this being at the top solely on the fact that it’s been up since 2013 because it’s really nothing special.
when i dream (I’m doing you all night) (SPN)
Collection of (mostly smutty) deanjohn Tumblr prompts, i can blame most of those on other people lmao
Holding on (until it’s over) (Graceland)
Episode Tag to 1x10, Johnny/Briggs because even then i was obsessed with manny montana and i refuse to apologize for it.
11:59 (Men’s Hockey RPF)
Sean Avery/Henrik Lundqvist Hooker!AU, and yeah that’s pretty much it.
even whiskey can’t do (what you do when you kiss me that way)
OG Stanford Era deanjohn first time smut, my first foray into SPN fics.
5 ) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
YES, i try to respond to all comments. sometimes RL gets in the way but as a rule i try to always respond. i love getting comments so i feel like appreciating the time the commenter took to bring me this joy. ♥️
6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
boy, this is a hard one. I’m not all that good with writing angst but i guess if I had to pick something i’d say don’t give up now (there’s already so much at stake), mostly because of the character’s frame of mind in general and the impending threat of invading a foreign country to overthrow a dictator the next day while being mentally wrecked.
7 ) Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?
i’m not against it but i’ve never actually done it.
8 ) Have you ever received hate on a fic?
not that I recall. but i guess it wouldn’t be the worst thing, i struggle way more with getting no feedback at all.
9 ) Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
do i? DO I? yeah, i do. usually the kind the story requires which can range from soft to awkward to plain filthy. also whatever kind the kinky anons drop in my inbox, i’m trying to keep an open mind.
10 ) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that i’m aware of. I don’t really operate in the super popular corners of the fandoms i’m in so i don’t think anyone feels the need to. it’d be pretty obvious to all the 10-20 people who are into that shit anyway lol
11 ) Have you ever had a fic translated?
again, not really running in the popular corners of fandom (rare pairs ftw) so imma say no. I could probably translate them myself but writing in my first language is fuckin awkward so no thank you.
12 ) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, I’m a pretty solitary writer. I do love to come play in other writer’s ‘verses though if they don’t mind. i have written a few things in @vintagedean ‘s married!vibes for example (thanks for letting me play, dude!)
13 ) What’s your all-time favorite ship?
jeez, i don’t know. i’ve never really stuck with just one fandom, i’m a notorious multi-fandom multi-shipper. i’m the kind of person who watches eps of 4 different shows in one day and yells at the tv about all of them.
14 ) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
we make a long way from easy lovin‘ look good, baby. i was honestly so invested in this project but then they completely torpedoed this pairing in canon in the worst possible way and i kinda lost the drive to keep writing. i have posted it to my graveyard collection of unfinished stuff for now but i don’t think i will finish it, sadly.
15 ) What are your writing strengths?
creating emotions, hitting you in the feels, or so I’ve been told. i like to think that (given that English is not my first language) just reaching the kind of level i’m at now can be considered a strength.
16 ) What are your writing weaknesses?
run-on sentences, endless run-on sentences. they serve a purpose SOMETIMES but mostly it’s just me and my rambly writing style. and repetition. i have actually started searching my writing docs for specific phrases while editing to catch most of them and rephrase. not being able to include just a bit of angst without it turning into an existential crisis for the character and me. and the worst thing I keep doing that i’m not able to stop is writing shit out of order. i start with the beginning, then some idea for the middle pops up, then I write the end and then I have to somehow weave it all together, it’s so inconvenient and annoying.
17 ) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
i speak a few languages (or you know, at least can understand/write/read them) so as long as i’m sure that it’s correct and it fits the story, I’m all for it!! language kink ftw.
18 ) What was the first fandom you wrote for?
it was either music or hockey rpf, i’m not even sure anymore at this point, that was like 20 years ago. nothing that ever got published anywhere lol
19 ) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
my name engraved on your heart, hands down. that is my beloved, my baby, the project nearest and dearest to my heart. i can actually read this and enjoy it without nitpicking my own writing at every turn and i’m just so happy with the overall vibe of it. it’s like a niche in a niche of a fandom thing though, so i get that it doesn’t resonate as strongly with others as it does with me but it is my favorite of favorites.
honorable mention to the house don’t fall (when the bones are good), though, because it’s what got me back into writing and it was my biggest (published) project and that fix-it needed to be written.
i think all my fellow fic writer mutuals have already been tagged in this, so i'm not gonna add y'all again but feel free to steal if this strikes your fancy.

I love 12 a lot, and I know the BBC doesn't treat him great either, but I'm still mad that he gets to be funny mean and develop, and 13 gets shit for literally everything
I’ve been uhming and ahhing over how to answer this because i have very complicated feelings on twelve’s asshole phase nowadays that actually have little to do with 12 himself tbh
Cuz like, bear with me a bit here. When you think about it, the writing for 13 is very shrewd isn’t it? She was Nice as Pie for a Very long time, i bet she holds the record for ‘length of time till the doctor is a right shitbag to their companions’. 13′s very careful act in s11 where she’s trying Very hard to make the fam like her and not question her goodness? The same act that evidently worked on great scores of the fandom considering people entirely fail to see the less than pleasant characteristics she exhibited in that season and Still sit there and claim she was flat in s11.
And when she starts acting like a dick in s12, it’s A) firstly for an actual understandable reason that Would seriously fuck up a person’s behaviour and B) by the time she Really Really Really starts to be a right shit to them in villa diodati, people (the fam And the audience) are already more than attached and more likely to forgive her.
And whenever shit like this happens, i remember one time on twitter and a tv writer was doing a Q&A i was reading (he worked on ncis back in it’s earlier seasons) and he said they had to be very careful how they wrote in new female characters as opposed to men, because they could Let men be bastards from the get go and people will bend over backwards to excuse it (caveat, he was Def talking about white men), but you had to write in new women carefully because their mistakes or issues and unlikable qualities will be held against them from the get go... And then subsequently, Forever.
And i love 13, and i love the episodes and the plot of her era, genuinely, But i also cannot deny it’s a very shrewd and calculated introduction to female doctor No.1 and it’s not the kind of shrewd i appreciate, but rather the kind i resent the need for.
(Of course, considering the reactions to her, i’m not willing to say this shrewd writing actually Worked a great deal, they evidently overestimated the audience, but still, an attempt was made.)
13 has to start off nice and then subsequently devolves, 12 starts off a bastard and evolves.
Aaaaaand now every time i see Early!Twelve be a right massive bastard i am reminded of all of this and it puts a bad taste in my mouth because He can start off like that and grow up but 13 is socially awkward almost 2 seasons into her run for very understandable, plot related reasons in a genuinely awkward situation and she’s like, a demon.
And while other doctors are definitely All massive assholes as well at times, including 13 (rarely see people bitch @ her for times she has Actually been a jerk tho... wild) Early Twelve has a corner on that market And he is like... Sequentially the easiest doctor to compare 13′s journey to because he’s Right There next to her. And honestly, if i was gonna pick a doctor to bitch about for their behaviour it wouldn’t be 12 (like... at least he grows), but he does provide the best comparison fare for my issues here.
(also, to the pedants who may come across this post; this is a Very brief summary more to do with my issues in general with media tropes and portrayals than it strictly is about doctor who And i am aware it’s more complicated than stated above, i just didn’t want to talk about it in depth. Please don’t try and start fights about show runners with me, i Beg of you.)

Things to tell sexist men’s soccer stans when they bring up the u15 Dallas game
1. This was like four years ago
2. This was a scrimmage match that was literally being used to warm up for a friendly after a break after a bad losing streak so uh yeah duh they aren’t going full out, but ofc the u15 team would because that’s a cool story to beat a national team
3. Mostly non starters were on the field
4. I don’t care that they are 15 or whatever, go look at the pictures that they all took together that night and you will see how much taller larger these guys are than them, there are biological advantages. You don’t put a lightweight champion against a heavy weight champion and call it an even match. It doesn’t make sense.
5. This is minor but this was jill Ellis’ era of playing all of our players wildly out of position
6. This was a charity event for make a wish... so um....??????? Duh.
7. Just because men have the biological advantage of being able to kick harder and sprint faster doesn’t mean their soccer is better🤭 sorry, someone should say it *flop flop* (that’s not necessarily pointed at Dallas, idk if they are floppers lol but I’m just keeping it real here)
8. This is an MLS development team, meaning that they were training to be professionals, this isn’t like these stupid little club teams that all the boys who are referencing this loss think of when they think youth soccer
9. Literal C H E L S A E lost to their youth team (6-0!!) and I have literally never heard anyone use that to discredit them 🤡🤡🤡
10. One loss/off game (aka a game where they weren’t putting in lots of effort purposefully lol) doesn’t discredit a team
11. Maybe if fifa would fucking invest anything in women’s soccer (which btw, brings in more revenue in the USA than men’s, so it is possible, and if funding or advertising of any kind occurred there would be more revenue being made) then we could have NWSL development clubs with really talented teenagers that are all preparing for professional soccer, but guess fucking what. The NWSL isn’t funded by fifa like the MLS is. There aren’t equal opportunities like that. Think about the birth given advantages you get as a male when it comes to shit like this, not trying to go ranty, but you know that’s true.
12. Kindly remind these people that women’s international soccer started in 1991 (The men’s World Cup started in 1930, for reference) and that women’s international soccer IS STILL NEW. literally. Oh and the NWSL is even more new (like 2012 new) Like the amount of people that are blown away when I tell them this is astounding. Just think about how women have been impacted from age old sexism. It still leaves impacts now. We are not nearly where we will be when we see women’s soccer “fully” developed internationally.
13. They just got back from playing a tournament
14. Mallory Pugh was 16 when she was called up to the uswnt. Don’t act like age is that large of an influence here for real. Most guys are mostly if not fully developed (as far as body/strength/hitting high testosterone) by this age.
15. Men and women literally have to learn to play soccer in different ways because of how our hips are different. We are prone to different injuries from each other. Women are specifically prone to acl injuries due to our hips. Men as a whole have to take that into account a LOT less when they play.
Feel free to add if you’d like to make some more points

DOCTOR WHO UNIVERSE QUESTIONS
This is supposed to done as a send me a number thing but I just really want to answer a load of the questions so I can give my unsolicited opinions and talk about myself.
Original post is here.
CHILDHOOD
1. Did you like DW as a child?
I’m not sure if I would have called it a fave show or not but I was definitely into it from like 2008ish-2013ish. I kinda started drifting away from it during the end of Eleven’s run.
2. Your age at the time of the revival?
Rose came out a few days after my 5th birthday.
3. First DW episode you ever saw?
The first memory I have of an episode is The Waters of Mars. My mum recorded it and started watching it while I was sat downstairs with her and I told her to turn it off because it was scaring me. But that definitely wasn’t the first time I’d watched the show.
4. Did you have any of the toys?
Don’t think so. I have a couple of Pop figures now though - Clara’s Memorial TARDIS and Coatless Thirteen. And I have a little Dalek that was my dad’s. I think it’s remote control? But now it just lives on my bookshelf.
6. Monster(s) that scared you most as a child?
The Flood from The Waters of Mars scared me the most but I was scared of some others as well - the Scarecrows from Family of Blood, the Silence, the Cybermen, the Whisper Men. The Trickster from The Sarah Jane Adventures.
8. DW opinion that has changed since you were a kid?
(Age 9/10) I used to think Christopher Eccleston was a terrible Doctor, mostly because my mum would say she didn’t really like his Doctor so I’d be like, ‘Oh, I guess I don’t like him either then.’ But now I love him.
(Age 9/10/11) I used to think Ten was the best Doctor and could never do any wrong. I mean, at that point, the only Doctors were Nine and Ten and after deciding I didn’t like Nine, my only other option was Ten so. And then Eleven showed up and he became my favourite. Now I would say that Ten is the only Doctor that can genuinely annoy me sometimes.
(Age 12) When Clara was introduced and she had her Impossible Girl thing I was like. ‘Well this is shit.’ It’s one of the things that kinda pushed me to stop watching. But now she is maybe my favourite companion? And I really like the Impossible Girl storyline. I think I just didn’t like it back then because I didn’t really understand it and I missed Amy and Rory.
(Age 13) When Peter Capaldi was announced as the Doctor that was kinda the final straw for me to stop watching the show. The only reason I can remember not being interested in him as the Doctor is because he was old and Nine, Ten and Eleven had all been fairly young. And Eleven was my favourite by that point and I was like no-one can replace him. When I got back into Doctor Who in like April 2019, that was the first time I had watched any of Capaldi’s era and I loved him so much. I wiiish I’d carried on watching back then.
(Age 17) When it was announced the Doctor was going to be a woman I was livid. I hadn’t watched Doctor Who in like 4/5 years at that point (other than maybe the odd episode from Series 1-7?) so it really shouldn’t have bothered me as much as it did but I was like wtf, the Doctor? A woman? Absolutely not. Obviously I feel very different now. I hadn’t watched any of Twelve’s era so I hadn’t seen Missy and I think references to regeneration being able to change gender in Eleven’s era probably went over my head because I mostly watched it when I was a kid and I also wasn’t like into the lore or whatever. So to me it was like the Doctor was just becoming a woman when it had never been established that that was even possible.
9. Who introduced you to DW?
I don’t know, it’s kind of just always been there.
10. Did you like Sarah Jane Adventures as a child?
I wouldn’t have said it was one of my favourite shows but yeah, I definitely watched it and enjoyed it. Kinda want to go back and watch it all. I don’t remember a lot of it.
DOCTOR
11. Who is your Doctor?
Eleven. Series 5 was the first series where I was like okay, I’m going to actually watch properly rather than dipping in and out. I ended up sticking with all of the Eleven’s run and then I stopped watching completely when he regenerated into Twelve.
Thirteen also has a place in my heart because Series 12 was the first series I watched live since Series 7 and it was so fun experiencing it with everyone. And my relationship with the show now is just so different to what it was back then. I used to be casually into it but now I’m wayyyy more invested in every aspect of it and Thirteen is a big part of that I think.
12. Your favourite Doctor? 13. Least favourite Doctor?
Just the thought of ranking the Doctors is painful because even the Doctor at the bottom I love an insane amount. Like, saying they’re my ‘least fave’ just feels rude. Having said that, it’s fairly easy for me to order them if I have to lmao.
Thirteen Eleven Twelve Nine Ten
Even though I would consider Eleven to be my Doctor I do think Thirteen is my favourite. I think it’s partly to do with the fact that she is the current Doctor so I associate her with new content and the continuation of the show? So she’s more exciting to me.
I feel like Eleven and Thirteen are my two faves because I love their thing of looking young on the outside but clearly being very old on the inside. And they can both go from awkward to very angry and Oncoming Storm-like which I loooooove.
Ten and Nine kinda stress me out because I can’t decide which one of them I like more. I think just based purely on Doctors I probably prefer Nine because Ten sometimes annoys me. But if I was to include their seasons and companions in my decision I would prefer Ten, because has more episodes and his companions are better.
14. Best regeneration?
Eleven’s regeneration is simultaneously the best and worst because it’s so good and I love his speech and the circumstances of his regeneration but also I love him a lot and I hate to see him leave. I have a feeling Thirteen’s regeneration is going to take that top spot though, whenever that happens. I don’t like to think about it.
Each regeneration makes me want to cry both from sadness at the current Doctor leaving and at happiness/excitement at seeing the next Doctor.
Nine - Ten; When Nine regenerates I’m more sad to see him go than I am excited to see Ten.
Ten - Eleven; When Ten regenerates I’m more excited about seeing Eleven than I am sad to see Ten go.
Eleven - Twelve; When Eleven regenerates I’m more sad to see him go than I am excited to see Twelve.
Twelve - Thirteen; When Twelve regenerates I’m more excited to see Thirteen than I am sad to see Twelve go.
15. Do you like “Doctor-Lite” episodes?
I like them but only because they aren’t a regular occurrence. From what I remember, most Doctor-Lite episodes happened during Ten’s era (Love & Monsters, Blink, Turn Left) and tbh a bit less Ten never really hurt anyone.
If there was loads of Doctor-Lite eps during Thirteen’s era I’d probably have something to say about it. Although since she has so many companions we need to follow around you could say every ep is borderline Doctor-Lite.
16. Who is the most human Doctor?
I was gonna just say Ten and be done with it but honestly, by the end of Twelve’s run he starts to feel pretty human where as at the end of 10′s run his God complex reaches new heights and he has that Timelord Victorious moment that I understand but also hate with a passion.
I think I’m gonna say Twelve because even though at the beginning of his run he was the most out of touch with people (Clara literally had to make him cards) I think by the end he was almost the opposite of how he started. He spent 70 years on Earth just living as a human. And he had his 24 years with River which I’m sure humanized him a bit.
But idk, my mind could probably be changed pretty easily.
17. Best multi-Doctor story?
Either Fugitive of the Judoon or Day of the Doctor. I think I prefer Fugitive of the Judoon over Day of the Doctor just as episodes but based on the multi-Doctor content in both of them I prefer Day of the Doctor because it has two established Doctors (10,11) and then a new Doctor (War) but Fugitive just has one established Doctor (13) and one new Doctor (Ruth).
18. Best Doctor monologue?
Nine - None of his monologues are like my absolute favourite thing in the world but I do love in Rose when he talks about the turn of the Earth and the ‘have a fantastic life’ speech is iconic.
Ten - There honestly isn’t a Tenth Doctor speech that comes to mind where I’m like yes, I love this. His ‘I’m 903′ speech in Voyage of the Damned is supposed to be badass but it kinda just makes me cringe. The other one that comes to mind is when he finds out Wilf is the one that does the four knocks and for a second he’s basically like, “I can’t believe I’m gonna die for an old man.” And I’m like, “Huh, what a dick head.” They are good, like they’re well written and well performed, I just don’t love them that much.
Eleven - The Rings of Akhaten and his regeneration speech are for sure my favourite Doctor Who speeches in terms of making me emotional. I think what I love about Eleven (and Thirteen as well) is that he a bit of persona of being cute and awkward but then can be bad ass and give amazing speeches when he wants to. I’m obsessed with it.
Twelve - Sometimes he’ll be talking in a way that seems like he’s saying something really profound but it actually isn’t at all and it cringes me out. The monologues of his that I actually like are the The Zygon Inversion, The Doctor Falls and his regeneration speech in Twice Upon a Time. Not sure which would be my favourite.
Thirteen - I think I love every one of Thirteen’s monologues. When she talks about love during the wedding in Demons of the Punjab, when she talks to ‘Erik’s wife’ in It Takes You Away, when she calls that Scorpion Queen a no-one in Night of Terror, when she goes off in The Haunting of Villa Diodati, when she says she is more than the Master in The Timeless Children. There’s just something about her just going off into a monologue that I love so much. I even like her speech in Orphan 55 which I know a lot people think is a bit preachy.
I think the Rings of Akahten monologue is my overall favourite speech. And Eleven’s regen is a very close second. Probably followed by any and all of Thirteen’s speeches.
20. Best Doctor/companion pairing?
I think my favourite Doctor/Companion pairing changes depending on what I’m into. Like, if I’m looking for some pining then I love Twelve/Clara but if I just want pals having a fun time then I love Twelve/Bill or Ten/Donna. Idk how accurate this list is but it’s probably close-ish.
Twelve/Clara - literally in love but never say it. the fuckin tension Ten/Donna - comedy duo, bffs Twelve/Bill - student/teacher vibe that i love, bit of a comedy duo? Eleven/Clara - flirty, basically dating?? Thirteen/Yaz - the potential Eleven/Amy - bffs, i love them, nostalgia Nine/Rose - best thing to happen to him, kinda in love but not quite Thirteen/Ryan - ryan’s new dad Ten/Rose - hate their smugness, but love their love story Thirteen/Graham - idek what to say, just so fuckin interesting Eleven/Rory - kinda a rivalry for amy, but also a good duo Ten/Martha - justice for martha  Twelve/Nardole - probs doesn't need to be on the list, funny tho
COMPANIONS
21. Favourite companion? 23. Least favourite companion?
Like with the Doctor, this fucks me up because when I think about putting all the companions on a scale, the idea that there has to be someone at the bottom who is my ‘least favourite’ hurts my soul because even the person who is at the bottom, I love so fuckin much. I also don’t know how accurate this list is. I’ve changed a lot of them around like a million times.
Clara Donna Bill Rory Yaz Amy Ryan Martha Rose Graham
I feel like this list could be done in multiple different ways. Like, if I’m doing this list just based on whether I like the character (which I’d say is probably what the list I’ve made is), Rose is near the bottom but if I’m doing it based on the effect she has on the Doctor (in general, not just the Doctor/s she traveled with) then she would be closer to the top.
Same, but the other way round, with Rory. I don’t really have too much interest in his relationship with the Doctor compared to most other companions so he would probably be closer to the bottom in that list but on his own as a character, I really like him.
I’m also going through a Thirteen phase right now so I just want to chuck Yaz, Ryan and Graham right at the top but I know that realistically that isn’t where they should be.
It’s kinda wild how Clara would have been right at the bottom of this list if I made it when she first became a companion. She’s one of the companions who I love as an individual and in relation to the Doctor. Series 9 Clara is for sure my favorite.
Rose has been part of Doctor Who for as long as I’ve been aware of the show so to me she is a ‘classic’ companion. But because she has been around for so long I’m like okay, I’m ready to move on to something new, her story has been told a million times. But at the same time, if Rose ever somehow made a return I would lose my mind because I love her a lot and she’s probably the first companion I ever saw. And how she affects every incarnation of the Doctor even after 1000+ years will never not be interesting to me.
I think I said in a post a while ago that the dynamic of the Thirteen and an old man doesn’t really interest me but I don’t think that’s the case anymore. Graham and the Doctor’s dynamic is definitely really interesting but I think with Thirteen having 3 companions I’m like, the TARDIS is kinda full and when it comes down to it, I find Yaz and Ryan more interesting than I find Graham. And sometimes I get annoyed at him because he likes to add a running commentary to everything. 90% of the time it’s fun and 10% of the time I want him to stfu. However, I did cry when him and Ryan left because I love them a lot.
22. Favourite secondary companion?
I don’t really know who exactly counts as a secondary companion. I’m thinking River and Jack. And then maybe Nardole and Mickey? Idk there’s probably more.
I’ve thought about it for ages but I don’t really know who I prefer out of Jack and River? I think because of Jack being back I’ve been into him more recently but if I had to choose one of them, I’d probably say I’m more interested in River?
I think my interest in River is, mostly, in relation to the Doctor. Like, as much as I kinda hate that in Doctor Who River basically doesn’t have anything that’s her own, she just revolves around the Doctor, that is mostly what I’m interested in when it comes to her. I will never get tired of her and the Doctor’s relationship. Like, I’ve read the Diary of River Song and stories without the Doctor are great but the one’s with the Doctor just interest me more.
With Jack I’m very similar, him and Doctor’s relationship will never not be interesting to me. But I’m more interested in what he gets up to away from the Doctor than I am with River being away from the Doctor. See: Torchwood.
By that logic Jack should be my favourite I guess?? But idk, I think I like River more. Who the fuck knows. I love them both
25. Most underrated companion?
I want to say Martha but I feel most people have woken up to the fact that Martha is iconic and deserved better so she isn’t very underrated anymore. She’s just rated.
I’m not sure who else would be considered underrated. Maybe Yaz, Ryan or Graham because I think a lot of people just write them off as being bad because they haven’t necessarily had a massive story like most other companions (Bad Wolf, The Girl Who Waited, The Impossible Girl) and I think that’s unfair.
I’ve definitely had moments where I’ve thought that as well but now I’m basically the opposite. If anything, I’m glad they don’t have some mysterious title tied to them, they’re just regular people and that’s enough for me.
26. Most overrated companion?
Probably Rose. I love Rose and when I watch her era I enjoy her and her relationship with the Doctor (mostly) but now that there are sooo many other Doctors and companions to choose from, I have a lot less interest in her. The lasting effects of her that are still there with future Doctors is one of my fave things but NinexRose and TenxRose are kinda old for me at this point.
27. Favourite companion’s family?
Generally, I don’t feel that passionately about any companion’s family. I’m just like they’re cool but I’m not really that interested in them. I really like Yaz’s family thoug and I hope we see them again in Series 13. And I love Wilf, obviously.
28. Who should have been a companion but wasn’t?
I know that Shona from Last Christmas was supposed to be a companion before Jenna Coleman decided to stay for Series 9 and I think if I didn’t love Series 9 so much and we didn’t get Bill who I love and who has similar vibes to Shona, then I’d be a bit bitter about missing out on Shona and Twelve because I really liked her.
I also loved the idea of Thirteen travelling with Ada. But the ending of that would have probably had to be Thirteen wiping Ada’s memory and I wouldn’t have wanted another companion leaving that way. I think I just really want the Doctor to have a companion from the 18/19th century.
29. Favourite (canon or non-canon) DW universe relationship?
I really do love every relationship in Doctor Who which is kinda wild. I think my favourite relationship is probably the Doctor and the Master. Like, they’re an otp and a brotp at the same time. But they’re also something else entirely. Like I don’t think we really even have a word that completely describes what their relationship is.
30. Who did you not used to like, but really like now?
Other than the things I mentioned in question eight...
I don’t think I disliked Martha but I definitely remember not really caring about her that much. I was just like, okay, she’s there I guess. But now I really like her.
I didn’t like River until like the end of 2019. I think it was mainly because I just couldn’t wrap my head around her timeline. But now I’ve got it down enough that I can enjoy it a lot more and I really love her and the Doctor’s relationship.
EPISODES
31. Favourite episode ever?
I have never had an answer to this because there’s so many episodes of Doctor Who that I just love with my whole heart but I think I’ve decided that The Haunting of Villa Diodati is my favourite Doctor Who episode ever? There is just something about it. I feel like it has everything. But also here’s some faves from each era. Not including two-parters because that’s another question.
Nine - Rose, The End of the World, Father’s Day
Ten - The Runaway Bride, Blink, Utopia, Midnight,
Eleven - The Eleventh Hour, Vincent and the Doctor, The Angels Take Manhattan, The Rings of Akhaten
Twelve - Mummy on the Orient Express, Face the Raven, The Husbands of River Song, The Pilot, Smile, Twice Upon a Time
Thirteen - The Woman Who Fell To Earth, Demons of the Punjab, Fugitive of the Judoon, Praxeus
32. Least favourite episode?
Sleep No More, The Return of Doctor Mysterio, Into the Forest of the Night, Love and Monsters, the Dalek two-parter in Series 3. There’s probably a few more. Every Doctor Who episode has something that I like/love but there’s some where I would never be like hey, I fancy watching that episode.
33. Which episodes do you skip?
If I’ve decided to do a full re-watch, I generally won’t skip any episodes but I think, not the last time I watched but the time before, I skipped The Return of Doctor Mysterio because I just couldn’t be bothered with it and I really wanted to get into Bill and Series 10 Missy.
34. Best two-parter?
If I had to choose one, probably World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls. But I also really love The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone, The Magician’s Apprentice/The Witch’s Familiar, The Ascension of the Cybermen/The Timeless Children
35. Historical, present day or futuristic episodes?
I don’t think I really have a preference. As long as there’s a good mix of both in each series and the eps are good, I’m down for whatever.
Although, I do think Thirteen’s era has had almost too many historical episodes that feature famous people? Like, Ada, Noor, Tesla, Byron, Shelley. Like, I looooove all those episodes and characters but there’s part of me that’s like okay, that’ll do. I hope we don’t have any in Series 13 to be honest.
36. Episode that will always make you smile? 37. Episode that will always make you cry?
Changing this to just ‘episodes that make me feel strong as fuck emotions that generally lead to crying' because I’m unstable;
Nine - Rose, The Parting of the Ways
Ten - Doomsday, Journey’s End, The End of Time Part 2
Eleven - The Eleventh Hour, Vincent and the Doctor, The Angels Take Manhattan, The Rings of Akhaten, The Day of the Doctor, The Time of the Doctor
Twelve - Face the Raven, The Husbands of River Song, Twice Upon a Time
Thirteen - The Woman Who Fell To Earth, Demons of the Punjab, Fugitive of the Judoon, Revolution of the Daleks.
38. Best run of episodes?
After The Lazarus Experiment, the second half of Series 3 is sooo good. And honestly, Thirteen’s era is basically 22 straight bangers.
39. Best cliffhanger?
I can’t choose one so here’s a few;
- Utopia when Professor Yana realizes who he is and regenerates and takes the Doctor’s TARDIS
- The Almost People when you find out Amy is a ganger and the real Amy is in labour somewhere
- The Name of the Doctor when Clara is doing her Impossible Girl thing and finds the War Doctor
40. Favourite Christmas special?
Not sure which is my number one favourite but these are my top 5, not in a particular order.
The Runaway Bride The Time of the Doctor The Husbands of River Song Twice Upon a Time Resolution
I was going to change Resolution for Revolution of the Daleks but I think even though it makes me emotional as fuck and I love it, basically anything without the Doctor, the fam or Jack bores me to tears where as I love every thing in Resolution. I also don’t even want to watch RotD right now because it just hurts too much lmao.
SERIES
41. Classic Who or New Who? 49. How much of Classic Who have you seen?
I prefer New Who, for sure. In January 2020 I watched An Unearthly Child and like 75% of The Daleks with the intention of watching all of Classic Who but I just never ended up doing it. My 2021 New Years Resolution is to watch all of Classic Who and I’m kinda optimistic about it. I’m just starting Season 2. I have zero doubt that even once I’ve watched Classic Who, New Who will still be my favourite. I’
42. Favourite series? 43. Least favourite series?
I think my favourite series depends on what I’m in the mood for but without spending my whole life thinking about it, Series 11 or 12 is probably my favourite because I genuinely love every episode and idk if I can say that for any other series.
My least favourite is probably Series 2? But I don’t even dislike it, there’s some amazing episodes and Ten and Rose are, for the most part, really great together but when I think about watching it I’m just like wow, I can’t really be bothered with this.
44. Which series do you skip?
I don’t ever skip a series when I’m doing a re-watch but if I had to skip it would be Series 2.
45. Favourite series opening?
Every series opening is so solid but my top ones are probably Rose, The Eleventh Hour, The Magician’s Apprentice, The Pilot, The Woman Who Fell to Earth
46. Favourite series finale?
Probably Series 10. But I really do think every series has a solid finale. I’d probably say the only finale that isn’t great is Series 11 but not because it’s a bad episode, because it’s an amazing episode, I just think as a finale it’s not great considering some of the other finales we have.
47. Best series arc?
Either Missy’s rehabilitation or “You Are Not Alone.” “Silence will fall” is also a great one although I can’t say I really even remember what happens in that arc. I just think the phrase ‘silence will fall’ being thrown around was really fun and tense.
48. Thoughts on series 11/12?
I love this new era of Doctor Who and other people hating it just makes me want to talk louder about how much I love it. There is definitely a noticeable difference between Series 11/12 and the rest of the show which I’m sure some people just honestly don’t like but I also just think a lot of people are like CHANGE? HOW DARE YOU??? and I just cba with it. I hate change and I’m coping just fine. And it’s like just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s bad. Please fuck off.
I think another 10 seasons of the same vibe, as much as I love it, wouldn’t have done the show many favours and the new era has probably been a great refresh to keep the show going even longer.
50. Who should have had another series?
I know Christopher Eccleston didn’t want to stay for more than one series so I’m not bitter about it but I would have loved if Nine did at least 3 like everyone else because he’s an amazing Doctor.
And I think Thirteen deserves to get at least four or five seasons (which I’m like 99% sure is happening but I worry that believing it’s true will stop it from happening lmao) because her story just doesn’t feel complete yet at all. And I think her seasons already being shorter and Series 13 only having 8 episodes should be considered. Like, her regenerating at the end of Series 13 or in a special that we may eventually get after Series 13 would be ridiculous imo.
I also would have loved longer with Donna and Bill. But with Donna I couldn’t imagine her with a different Doctor so it would mean Ten would also have to stay longer and I don’t really want that. Bill staying when Twelve regenerated and then being Thirteen for a bit would have been really interesting but also I love what we’ve got with the fam so I’m not mad that it didn’t happen.
MONSTERS
51. Favourite monster/villain?
I looooove the Weeping Angels. But also the Silence.
52. Most creative monster?
I quite like the Thajarians from Demons of the Punjab.
53. Monster(s) that scares you most?
None of them really fuck me up like they used to when I was a kid. Maybe the Cybermen or the dregs from Orphan 55 because the thought of coming face to face with them is terrifying.
54. Monster you think is too easy to defeat?
I don’t really care about how easy or difficult the monster is to defeat. As much as I love the monster of the week, I don’t really watch it for that, I watch it for the Doctor and the companions.
55. Least favourite monster/villain?
I can’t think of a time where I was like ugh the villain is crap. Maybe the wasp situation from Unicorn and the Wasp because it’s a bit weird? Idk. Like, in The Ghost Monument they literally fought rags and I’m like okay cool idc.
56. Monster you want to return?
Weeping Angels* and the Silence are probably the top ones. I think the Silence coming back might be a bit weird because they’re whole thing was the Silence will fall arc but idk they could make it work.
*I wrote this before we saw Weeping Angel set pics for Series 13 and I just wanna say shoutout to God for answering my prayers. And also the lil Silence cameo in RotD was niiice.
57. In your opinion, what makes a monster good?
If it looks cool, if I genuinely believe it’s causing a threat even though the Doctor is obviously going to survive the episode, a cool name?
58. Daleks, Cybermen or Weeping Angels?
Weeping Angels, then Cybermen, then Daleks
59. Best Dalek story?
Either The Magician’s Apprentice/The Witch’s Familiar or Resolution.
I guess Revolution of the Daleks too but the things I care about in that episode had literally nothing to do with the Daleks.
ADDITIONAL MATERIAL
61. Torchwood or Sarah Jane Adventures?
Probably Torchwood.
62. Favourite Torchwood Team member?
Jack is the only one I really care about.
63. Which Torchwood death made you saddest?
Probably Owen? But I don’t really remember what happened lmao.
68. Do you read the comics/novels or listen to Big Finish? 69. If you do, your favourite additional stories?
I have quite a few Doctor Who books but it takes me a while to get through them because I sometimes find them hard to get into/follow. Like, the space talk is fine on screen but my brain can’t follow it very well in book format. I’m mostly into books with some amount of romance and Doctor who books have literally none lmao. When I actually get to reading them I do quite enjoy them though.
My favourite book I’ve read is probably either The Missy Chronicles (especially Alit in Underland) or Plague City with Twelve, Bill and Nardole.
I’m not really a comic person but there’s some that I do want to buy at some point, I just don’t really have the money to be spending on things I don’t desperately want.
I’ve listened to two Big Finish episodes that were free for a little while - a Paternoster Gang ep and a Jenny, the Doctor’s Daughter, ep. I enjoyed them more than I thought I would but it’s another thing that I don’t really want to throw loads of money at right now.
70. Do you like DW analysis (video essays, fan theories, etc)?
I love a meta. I’m not good at thinking of that sort of stuff myself so reading it is really interesting. It depends on what I’m currently into but Thirteen and Missy are the main characters I read metas about.
DESIGN/PRODUCTION
72. Favourite piece of Murray Gold music?
The only Doctor Who music I listen to is The Long Song from The Rings of Akhaten and Abigail’s Song (Silence Is All You Know) from A Christmas Carol. I also looove Missy’s theme but I don’t even sit and actualy listen to it.
73. Favourite TARDIS design?
Nine/Ten - Love their TARDIS because it feels like classic Doctor Who for me
Eleven - His first TARDIS is probably my favourite design because it feels really open and pretty and also nostalgia.
Eleven/Twelve - Eleven’s second TARDIS and Twelve’s TARDIS have similar vibes and I love them because they feel really clean and bright.
Thirteen - I love Thirteen’s TARDIS because it’s so colourful and I love the pillar vibe that’s going on and all the shapes in the walls. Something about her TARDIS makes me feel kinda claustrophobic though. Like even though it looks massive it feels really dark all the time and that stresses me out.
74. Has the 2005 era CGI aged well?
I mean, it’s awful but when I watch I really don’t notice it that much. I’m just like yup, this is Doctor Who and I kinda love it.
75. Favourite Doctor outfit?
Eleventh Doctor in the second half of Series 7. But also Coatless!Thirteen.
77. Best show runner?
It was a toss up between Moffat or Chibnall but I’ve decided Chibnall is the best show runner.
I have this whole thing in my head with Moffat’s era that I really don’t know how to describe other than to say that his arc’s don’t feel solid. Like, physically. I don’t feel like I could grab hold of it and be like yes, this is the story. This is where it begins, this is what it means, this is where it leads to. Even though logically I know that I definitely could do that, I’ve seen his era enough times to know what the arcs are. But still, the Hybrid thing just feels like... nothing? Like, what even IS it??? The Doctor and Clara I’m pretty sure. But also who literally cares and what is the point??? I genuinely don’t even know. I get the same way about Series 5 and 6. Like, logically, I know what the arcs are but I don’t feel like I could grab hold of them.
Idk it’s actually so weird I don’t know how to explain it. I just think his first two series especially are all so linked together in an arc that is there all the time but also not there at all and it just makes me anxious I stg.
But then I also love his era because of Missy and Eleven and ClaraxTwelve and just so much other stuff that I love so much. And Moffat’s era really feels like Doctor Who yanno? Just the vibe and omg the MUSIC. When I think of the vibe of Doctor Who I think of Moffat’s era, especially that bit at the end of The Time of Angels where the Doctor is holding a gun up and the music is just loud as fuck. I love that shit.
For Chibnall I think the only thing about his era that is a let down is that the writing is sometimes off. I can’t point to a specific time or thing that was said but every now and again there’s a moment of oof that’s not great is it. But it’s not enough for me to hate it. I’m just like yeah it’s not as good as the writing of previous era’s and it does have a different vibe but other than the few moments I notice a difference it really doesn’t bother me. Like Chibnall’s era doesn’t have the ‘Doctor Who vibe’ that Moffat’s era has but I don’t consider it to be any less Doctor Who. It’s just different.
But when I watch Chibnall’s era it just feels so much more inclusive and just nicer??? Idk. Like, there will be a character that is a woman and she’ll mention she has a wife and I’m like omg. And not every one is white. And all the female characters aren’t the same flirty thing that so many of Moffat’s female characters are. Like how River, Clara and Amy all have a bad bitch but also half the things they say has a little flirty insinuation in it. Which is fine and I love them all and it’s not constant but surely you can write different kinds of women? Like I feel like Chibnall’s era has made an effort to make the show generally more inclusive and I notice it and it I like it and it makes me happy. I also just genuinely love every episode from Chibnall’s era so far which I definitely can’t say for Moffat or RTD.
79. Best opening titles?
I love them all for different reasons but I’d probably says Thirteen’s is my favourite. Especially now that it’s got a million times more colourful.
80. Will DW age well/stay popular in the future?
I really do think Doctor Who is timeless. I mean, I’m about to watch Classic Who for the first time and it aired like 50 years ago. I’m sure 50 years from now people will be watching New Who for the first time and tuning into new episodes New New New Who on TV.
IF YOU WERE IN THE SHOW
81. Time period you’d want to go with the Doctor?
I really want to go to my street/area but like 50-100 years in the past and 50-100 years into the future just to see how similar or different it is.
82. Planet/place you’d want to go with the Doctor?
So many planets. All the planets. And the moon.
83. Doctor you’d most like to travel with?
Probably Twelve because I’d love to have the student teacher thing with him that he has with Bill. But also Eleven or Thirteen because I love them so much.
84. Companion you’d most like to travel with?
I’ve never really thought about this before but for some reason Ryan instantly came to me.
85. Monster you’d like to defeat/fight?
Weeping Angels because they’re scary as fuck but also how fun. If I knew the Doctor could somehow save me I would let the Angel get me and just see where in time it spat me out.
87. If you could ask the Doctor anything, what would you ask?
I want to know how Time Lords have kids and if the answer isn’t Looms then I’m not interested.
90. Would you travel forwards or backwards in time first?
Probably backwards because I’d be scared of what I’d see if I went into the future. Like, did global warming fuck us all or are we good? I’d want to put it off for a bit.
IF YOU MADE THE SHOW
91. Historical event would you like to see in DW?
Saw someone answer this saying they would want to see the Stonewall riots. And idk how they would turn into some kinda of alien situation because they would have to be careful like with Rosa but I think it could be interesting.
I also would love Doctor Who to tell stories are lesser known to a lot of people and don’t involve any famous people. Like in Demons of the Punjab.
95. Actor/actress you’d like to see play the Doctor? 96. Actor/actress you’d like to see play a companion?
I can never look at an actor/actress and be like, “You are perfect for this.” Literally no-one feels right. But then when someone gets cast I’m like, “Wow, you’re perfect for this.” The people that do casting for Doctor Who know what the fuck they’re doing that’s for sure. Every companion and every Doctor feels perfect. Like I couldn’t imagine them being anyone else.
97. Is DW “too political”?
No. Doctor Who has literally always been ‘political’. I do think Chibnal’s era has maybe been a bit less subtle about it, like the speech at the end of Orphan 55. But I don’t think that’s necessarily good or bad. It just is what it is. It doesn’t bother me but I’m also like okay, I understood what this was about without you having to give a speech about it. But it is a pretty good speech so I can’t be too mad about it.
I can see why people might not like it in terms of Doctor Who being their escape and they don’t want to be reminded of real world shit while watching it but a lot of the time that isn’t the reason people give for not liking ‘political’ stories or subtext. They’re just are an actual racist or don’t believe in climate change.
98. Which characters fate would you changed?
I love the endings of Amy, Rory, Clara and Bill but I don’t like how they all essentially boil down to being the same thing - Companion dies but then somehow cheats death and gets to live. Individually I really love all the endings but them all happening in a row is a bit repetitive.
I think if I had to choose one ending to change it would probably just be that instead of Clara and Ashildr being space wives, Clara had to go right back to where she was supposed to die rather than going ‘the long way round.’ Like the Time Lords somehow managed to get hold of her and force her to go back or something like that because I don’t see her just being like, “Okay, I’ve said goodbye to the Doctor, time to go die.” I could just say to get rid of Hell Bent altogether but I really love that episode.
I mean and there’s also Donna who's ending I love because it’s just emotional as fuck but it kinda makes her whole season feel redundant because she doesn’t remember any of it. The Doctor remembers it though and it clearly affects him so it’s not completely pointless which is why I’m not completely annoyed at it.
99. What about DW could be improved?
I just want more of it. I’m not expecting more and I’m not demanding more but I will always just want more. Seasons are just getting shorter and shorter with each era and it’s a bit shit.
