     “What are you?” 

     It was a valid question given the circumstances. 

     Soap could hardly count himself as conscious at that moment. It was a wave, pulling him back and forth until he was able to force his head to the surface, gasping for air and able to just barely look at his surroundings before he was pulled under again. 

     “Does it matter?” 

     It was dark out. He remembered it being dusk when they set out on their mission, the sun slowly setting in the horizon as Price told them to radio in at any issue and meet at their rendezvous point as soon at possible. 

     Fuck. 

     He broke the surface once more to notice that he wasn’t moving, but swaying side to side. Each step that crunches the ground is not his, but the blood drip, drip, dripping down, leaving a foreboding trail of their journey, is.

     Your shoulder digs into the crevice of his chest with each movement. 

     “Yer carryin’ me, Mutt.” 

     “I am.” 

     You never spoke much. Johnny had equated you to Simon in that way, quiet and foreboding. Your actions spoke where your voice rasped in the shadows. Tucked in the corner booth of a pub when the others went to celebrate a job well done. The loyal guard dog, waiting on its haunches for an order. 

     He was the one who would move to you first. Setting a beer in front of you before sliding into the seat across from you with a tap of his knuckles on the polished table. His knee would bump yours every time. You’d never complain. 

     “Big scary bastards, the both of you.” 

     But then you’d give him a grin, a flash of your crooked canines so fast it was gone when he blinked. 

     “Well it’s a damn good thing you talk enough for all of us then.” 

     Jonathan Mactavish was only a stone’s throw from 215 pounds but you carried him without complaint. The swaying with each step made his head spin and looking up was too much work for him to trust himself not to vomit. He let his eyes drop and stare at the ground, watching you take one step after another in a steady rhythm like an infant listening to their mother’s heartbeat. Through the darkness, he’s able to make out the shadowed shape of your feet in the night.

     “You’ve got no shoes on, Mutt.” 

     “Feels better this way.” 

     He can’t see much. Even if it weren’t for the blood loss and what he’s going to safely assume is a grade two concussion, it’s far too dark out for his surroundings to be seen as anything more than vague shapes and textures he can almost make heads or tails of.

     Your eyes are focused on the trail ahead, already accustomed to the darkness in a way he’d never seen anybody else without night vision goggles or a Mag-light. 

     “Tried to reach Price but the comms are busted. You got your bell rung pretty bad back there but-” You shifted your grip on his body and he felt something sharp press against his ankle, a gentle warning that mouthed at the skin of his Achilles's tendon. “We're only a few miles away from the rendezvous point. Think you can keep it together until we get there?”

     Claws. You had claws. 

     Through the nausea rolling through his body and the lights dancing behind his eyes, Soap could feel the fog begin to clear from his head. A flash of orders rising from his memory like the vision returning after a flash grenade. 

     He remembered seeing you charge through the muzzle flash and smoke like a vision. Uniform stained with the viscera of your enemies so dark he didn’t recognize you at first. The moment you came toward him he was raising his gun until he heard you speak.

     “You know me, Johnny.” 

     But he didn’t. Not really. 

     When he looked at you there was no familiarity or trust. He knew the color of your eyes and the curl of your lips in a snarl but nothing else. Not your name or family nor the reason you joined. 

     In the darkness, moonlight glinted against your eyes and he found himself thinking of the coyotes in Las Almas that watched him and his team from the shadows, pacing with a choir of chattering yips and howls in the darkness, waiting for the proper time to pounce.  

     He’d never admit it but there was a pause, when his hand held the barrel of his gun steady at your head.  Just as long as the width of the shallow breath trapped in his lungs, a split second where his pointer finger twitches, where the voice in his head urges him on. 

     “You never answered my question.”

     He knows nothing of you except that the blood in your mouth was spilled for him. 

     “I’m your teammate. That ought to be enough for you.” 

     It would have to be.

What if the QSMP quiz on day 3 of the puzzle was like an interview in disguise and how Mr. Bunny was chosen. Maybe they got the potential investor role since thats the highest one you can get and it makes sense since Mr. Bunny replaced the duck(I forgot their name). Further proof being that day 3s cipher is "bunny".

Now we can only get potential investor if we score forty points, and to score forty points you need to select the answer that is worth four points on every question, which is more specific then the other roles(not including D-rank worker) because the OTHER ROLES have a range. Also an interesting detail is that some 4 point choices... don't seem that much of a deal

SO using the options that are worth 4 points, we can theorize on Mr. Bunny's personality.

Q1: DIAMOND BLOCK(4points) According to the narrator, Mr. Bunny knows a thing or two about Money, and assuming he's the same person who left those messages on the lore images and established capitalism.... yeah I think it makes sense. In Qsmp, diamonds are like money.

Q2: DARK OAK PLANKS(4 POINTS) I've always wondered... why wasn't black stone bricks or even the quartz options not 4 points.... well lets look think a bit... Quartz is a signature of the federation, Blackstone bricks is the Color pallet of the resistance/rebellion. Dirt is... dirt. So the only option that doesn't really correlate make sense is dark oak plank. The room that the islanders passed out in does use dark oak planks....

Q3: Create a trapped maze that leads to the entrance to confuse unwanted visitors.(4 POINTS)- Now we don't know much about Mr. Bunny, or how this corelates to his personality. But using this, we can make a prediction that MR. Bunny's headquarters would be hard to find.

Q4: Build a gigantic mansion just for them, treat them like royalty!(4 POINTS) We know Mr. Bunny is here for the money, he also owns a business separate to federation(know this because of day 2s lore Image). Most corrupt money hungry business owners are often, A: Corrupt because Poor, Business is flopping or B: Corrupt because Business is succeeding hence greedy. We can think Mr. Bunny is B because of this answer.

Q5: PAINTING(4 POINTS): I cannot think of a lore reason, maybe they just prefer paintings or maybe there is a lore reason that we haven't discovered yet....

Q6 RED COUCH(4 POINTS) ALL (except day 5) of the lore images have a red/black gradient background. examples below. We can assume red is a correct that represents Mr. Bunny.

Q7: GOLD(4 POINTS) Again, like the first question, Mr. Bunny LOVES Money. Although this question asks to choose a thing to collect, and the answers are things you can collect from the federation: Furniture, Classified info, Rocks. Mr. "gold digger" Bunny here only for the money.

Q8: I answer their questions at the door and they leave, the rest of my day is uneventful.(4 POINTS) The question is about what you would do when Cucurucho visits... I don't think there is much lore in this but(again going to use the money point but so does the lore images) he DOESN'T CARE about Cucurucho much.... you know what he DOES care about.

Q9:A beautiful flower garden, carefully tended to!(4 POINTS) I dont know the implications in lore and the personality for Mr. Bunny . Maybe he can afford it and maybe this can be related to how beautiful the shops look. But we don't have enough evidence to call it a theory.

Q10: Once I get what I want from them, I kill them. When the investigators come, I serve them a wonderful meaty stew. There is no evidence(4 POINTS) This answer perfectly represents how Mr. Bunny thinks of the federation.... he is using them like meat bag for money, and once he has enough, we can think that he'll try to take over....

Hello Raven. Ive been reading on your opinions and thoughts about How TWST would work as an otome game and im really interested.Your analysis is great and it feels refreshing to see another person that finds people "uwufying" certain characters irritating.

First,I would like to say that I was very surprised when i found your opinions about how TWST works as a dating sim.Most people romanticise TWST Its the exact same reason why i thought TWST was a otome when i first heard about it,and being manufactured by Disney didnt help at all.It was amazing seeing how much your opinion about it clashes so much around other peoples lolololol

This might sound offending but i seriously thought alot of people here were "uwufyers"(?) And believes in "love solves everything" and it was a large immediate bad image turn on for me.It was tiring seeing people constantly think of love as all sunshine and daisies and ignore the soil erosions around them,probably one of the big reasons why alot of peoples first relationships dont work out at all.

Ok i need to start getting to why i actually wrote this ask

I can totally see TWST working as a dating sim while still maintaining the main foundations of the game.

There might be some holes in this idea but im a wild teenager on the loose not a game developer.

Overused Love tropes are boring and happy ever afters are a one in a trillion chance of happening

So while Were not gonna touch on most of the plot in TWST the most were gonna change about it are only small little details. Its important for the character to have some bad traits and lore( that is not overused and boring and looks like it was written by a 5 year old,thank you very much) so all thats going to happen to make it work is by adding some more intimacy and physical contact on the game like Kalim hugging you repeatedly occuring,Trey baking with you because you asked him to help you on the school project and it becoming a thing the both of do together,Apple Carving with Epel,Having fun causing trouble with the Adeuce duo yada yada so while we do have some sweet moments and maybe a mix of romantic ones and friendzone moments aka giving the player mixed signals so they suffer

And based on which route you choose is who yuu will fall in love with,but only a selected few have happy endings

Take Jack for example,the only problems i really see here is his tendency to tie himself to his morals(which can be considered as a toxic trait)and his tsundere personality(which i honestly find quite annoying) so a "happy ending" "bittersweet ending" and "bad ending" along with "worse ending"(which are all the possible endings you can get and is available)

Happy ending:Jack shares the same feelings and after a lot while of debating and friendzoning you slowlyyyy subtley admits his feelings and after years and years of reassurance,tears,awkward flirting and amateur courting,you guys finally get together.yay

Bittersweet ending:Jack only sees you as a friend and its so painfully obvious.you would be a fool to believe hes going to catch on feelings for you when he stated himself he sees you as a sibling.Not wanting to ruin everything you kept your feelings sealed and just smiled

Idk abt the bad and worse endings i ran out of ideas haha

The other ones like Idia only has a "bittersweet ending"(which isnt always friendzoning the player more like he had feelings for you too but his insecurities got in the way) and a "bad ending"(you cry your little heart as you remember exactly how Idia belittled your feelings,should have known better when he was quite actively mocking love).Some only have a "happy ending" and "bittersweet ending".While others have different mixtures based on personality,background and occupation

However none of the royals have a "happy ending" why? Simple,Youre a commoner.A magicless prefect that came from an unknown world,You seriously think people will take to you kindly? Honestly with Leona there miiight be chance but with Malleus?The chances of you transporting to the fictional world is higher than being liked by 1% of fae while still being human.The eels only have a bad and worse ending and i think you know the reason for that.

Bad endings can be caused by other major factors (major character death,or minor character death that had a big impact on one of the mcs,player going back home,etc.) Worse endings are basically bad endings but worse if the character doesnt have a bad ending there wont be a worse ending

The actual romance starts when they graduate aka halfway through the route it takes time to develop feeling and for others to overcome trauma or atleast tone down their problems a bit

How you will get these endings are based on your choices

Whew this was long and oh boy while yes they dont follow alot of media expectations and defeats the main purpose of a dating sim(which is making the player feel loved) i wanted to have something more realistic something more TWST

Aaaah 😅 Honestly, I’m just glad that I’m finally able to get my thoughts on that out... It’s definitely not my cup of tea, but I had been holding back on sharing my opinion because I worried about coming off as invalidating the people who do enjoy it (and I hope that I haven’t given off those vibes). As I’ve always stressed, just because I don’t personally like something doesn’t mean that others cannot like it. People are free to do and enjoy whatever they want!

Yume culture is definitely very prevalent in the Twisted Wonderland fandom! (For those who may not know, “yume” is short for “yumejoshi”, or 夢女子, which literally translates to “Dream Girl”. It is a term used for those (typically female) who enjoy dating their favorite character(s) in their head or in their imagination, usually via a self-insert or via an OC.) I think part of the reason for it is that the TWST characters are really loveable and relatable, and people wish that they could engage with them on a more intimate level. It’s how a lot of TWST fans demonstrate their love for certain characters!

ASDHBASODYPboffuba AHAHAHAH 🤣 After being in this fandom for over 2 years, I’ve found that a lot of my opinions misalign with what the majority of the fandom thinks. It doesn’t make any one opinion better or worse than the others, but I just think it’s something amusing to note. I try to give all sides consideration and the benefit of the doubt when possible, but ultimately I’d like to think that I approach TWST lore and its characters with more pragmatism than most. Maybe I’m just jaded--

I don’t know if I can speak for the entire fandom, but I feel like I’ve personally seen a lot of “uwu” takes. They’re understandable to some extent, as people will inevitably want to comfort these characters and to seek comfort from them in return. I don’t fault anyone for that, even if I choose to disagree with it. I just hope that those takes are only harmless fun and escapism, and that they don’t seriously extend to real world relationships, because that would be a setup for disappointment and even potentially toxic situations 💦

Yeah, I think that if TWST were to be a dating sim at all (while maintaining its identity), it would have to completely flip the script of conventional dating sims. TWST is a game about “villains”, and while that doesn’t necessarily condemn them to not having a happily ever after, it doesn’t mean that their happily ever after needs to come now, that it should be quite so easy to obtain, or that their circumstances will actually allow for it. Part of what makes TWST… well, TWST 😂 is that while there is magic and fantastical bullshit going on around you, the story and its characters still have its roots in realism. There are reasons and backstories for characters acting a certain way, and things happen as a result of the characters acting organically, not out of plot convenience. This would be possible to incorporate into a unique dating sim experience.

Like you’ve said, there can be more physical contact and sweet, intimate moments spent one-on-one with the boy of your choosing. I think there’s a lot of cute possibilities for those so-called “love-flag” cutscenes! Imagine looking after the hedgehogs with Riddle, going on cafe hangouts with Cater, baking with Trey, etc. It’d allow for the characters to be themselves without erasing their flaws and faults while still spending time with the protag (Riddle is taking care of the hedgehogs because it is his duty, Cater needs someone to polish off his sweets after he’s done taking pics for his Magicam account, Trey appreciating a hand in the kitchen because he’s worn out from being the main baker for unbirthday parties, etc.)

Oooh, I really like the idea that only some boys actually get “happy endings”/end up in an actual romantic relationship with the protag 🤔 But to play devil’s advocate for a moment, I can see why that might upset some people? Like, imagine being told that a character you really like doesn’t get or “deserve” a happy ending/love (and you, the player, by extension, don’t get that happy ending/love that you explicitly picked up this game for), but that others do????? And based solely on the character you picked/liked, too… (Worse yet is that I see a lot of the most popular characters, like the OB boys, being the ones that most likely don’t have “happy endings”.) That would just seem unfair to the fans of certain characters.

I’m not going to comment much on the ideas shared for Jack and Idia’s routes (since I think they work well as you have proposed), but since you mentioned Idia, I’m going to take a moment to speculate. I get that people want to date the TWST boys, but I wonder if anyone has stopped to consider the implications of certain characters if the genre were to change. Dating sims focus on romance, right???? So what would happen to Grim in that case??? And what about Ortho, who is a literal child that you obviously should NOT date or have romantic feelings for??? Since you can’t write either of them romantically, I fear that their roles would be greatly diminished in the routes, reduced to nothing more than “cute but sassy mascot/pet” and “Idia’s wingman”. In Ortho’s case, this is especially bad because his whole character arc ends with him finally being acknowledged as his own person rather than as an “object”, but the structure of a dating sim would probably make Ortho a plot device to move the romance along 😔 I don’t like the idea of changing Grim and/or Ortho to make them dateable either; it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It takes away the importance of the platonic relationship between Grim and his minion, and in Ortho’s case, aging him up and/or making him alive or never dead in the first place removes a lot of meaning from his and Idia’s struggles and childhood trauma. It also kind of implies that something was “wrong” with the originals (and, by extension, something was “wrong” the friendships they had with the protag) 💦

I’ve actually always been bothered by non-royals getting romantically involved with royals 😅 It’s nice to think about for escapism purposes, but I personally prefer to write and consume media with a more pragmatic view and where there are realistic consequences for everything that happens. I’d be really interested to see the aftermath of a route where Malleus had to turn you down because he puts his duties as crown prince first, or where the twins get you caught up in their shady family business (presumably the underwater mob) 👀 Love’s numbing power only lasts so long before you have to deal with the consequences that come with those feelings and the one you’ve sworn them to.

Now that I think about it 🤔 a time skip around the middle of the game reminds me of Fire Emblem 3H. It worked pretty well in that game because the story was split pretty evenly between the past and the future (with maybe more of a lean toward the future, where most of the character development occurs. The actual romantic relationships happen post-main conflict, because the characters have other priorities (fighting for their causes). I think that this kind of a format would work well for TWST, especially with the deep-rooted nature of the trauma some of the boys have experienced (or just how generally stubborn they are to the ideas of friendship and love). For the TWST boys, their priorities would mostly be schoolwork, but also the OBs and what comes immediately after (if those are kept in the dating sim). I feel that it is tonally deaf or at least insensitive to launch into a romance or continue the buildup to one right after someone has been through something really dark and disturbing; they should be focused on mentally recovering instead. This would not be as much of an issue if the idea of a relationship was revisited later in life, when the characters are not as burdened by schoolwork and have had time to grow, to mature, and to sit with their thoughts and reflect on them. This would also solve the “age issue”. If the dating sim protag is over 18, it gets iffy romancing younger boys, and if they’re under 18, it gets iffy romancing older boys—but if there’s a time skip, then everyone is a consenting adult and it’s all gucci 👌

I’m with you when I say that if we get a TWST dating sim, I’d want it to be well-written and realistic so as to maintain the charm of the original. (But of course, there’s nothing wrong with wanting an experience different than this for a hypothetical TWST dating sim! Everyone has different tastes, which we should be respectful of.)

(writing a blurb about other fischl despite not knowing that much about the background of the ein immernachtstraum skin lore. forgive me if its off🗿)

other fischl (who im naming night or something similar(maybe nyx?)) who maintains her identity as the true prinzessin but would throw it all away for the sake of the creator. night who can see danger coming from miles away thanks to oz and his ability to be her eyes in the sky.

her electro might not be as volatile as red's pyro but she can still protect the creator just as well as he can! (maybe even better than red!) seeing that she uses a bow and has oz, she can better fight the knights of favonius in long ranged combat.

when red comes back bloodied and bruised, which she knows is on purpose to get creator's attention, she gets a little jealous. why can't she get that attention and love? obviously she should be getting more attention, she's the prinzessin der verurteilung! the two of them are on rocky ground but for the sake of the creator, they're willing to (mostly) put aside their differences. (and she hates to admit it but red does make for a good teammate)

night and fischl don't have as much drama as red and diluc do but that doesn't stop her from acting superior to fischl. after all, who protected the true creator during the hunt? not fischl. thats who.

all things aside, she'd lay down her life and her title as the prinzessin for the creator.

lotsa talk and fischl lore spoilers below!

Ein Immernachtstraum translates roughly to ‘an ever night dream’ (and i’d anybody who actually speaks german thinks that’s wrong, take it up with google translate <3) so i think ‘night’ works well!

also, i went back to the event (shout out to the genshin wiki. genshin wiki my dearly beloved. if nobody got me i know the genshin wiki got me) and reviewed the dialogue from the other-fischl—who’s referred to as ‘immernacht fischl’ or ‘evernight fischl’ which is a useless fact but here—and have essentially gathered this:

‘fischl’ is a persona. we’re aware of this—or i assume everyone is? or was that info revealed in the event??—and know that her real name is amy. the event (summertime odyssey, part 3 for the dialogue i saw by the way if you wanna read it yourself) takes this a step further, but first i’ll quickly recap some fischl lore. i’ll put a ‘recap over’ if you know and don’t wanna read it.

so! as i said, ‘fischl’ as we know her is actually amy. fischl is a character from an obscure book series titled “Flowers for Princess Fischl.” now, this princess fischl is the one that rules over the immernachtreich, this princess fischl is the one with a soulbond with a raven familiar and an entire kingdom.

amy, as a child, read these books and was, expectedly, a massive fan. her parents played along, calling her ‘fischl’ and playing into the essentially very advanced roleplay. as she grew up, she kept with this persona, even as she—i assume, her lore was a bit vague—was bullied for this persona. but her parents didn’t really say anything, and were assumedly supportive.

however, on her 14th birthday, when she went to her parents for comfort after another round of bullying, they said that she needed to drop the act. she was incredibly upset by this, naturally, and went to the library to console herself with her favorite books. that night, she received both her vision and oz.

(and then they had dinner with her parents and oz complimented her parents’ beans which is hilarious as a sentence)

now, the ‘immernacht fischl’ is essentially the actual fischl, not amy. she’s a manifestation of all of amy’s insecurities, in essence, and in the event oz actually switches sides because, to paraphrase, “isn’t she my master too?”

all of this to say that night, the personification of ein immernachtstraum, which is the outfit that the immernacht fischl wore, is essentially the real fischl that amy has based her entire identity off of.

to finally get to your point: you are 100% correct on everything. night is better for long range, and fischl in canon can see through oz’s eyes so i assume the same for night, so she’s better for reconnaissance and looking out for threats. her and red make for a powerful overload team, but she’s 1000% jealous of the attention you pay to him. she never gets such injuries because she’s significantly less tanky, has less combat experience most likely, and is long-range, but she feels like it might be worth it to have you dote on her.

her and fischl have significantly less animosity than red and diluc, but there’s a fairly large caveat. whereas red hates diluc for his choice of priorities (and for the hunt) and diluc hates red because 1) he fuckin growled at him when they first met what the fuck 2) red just isn’t a good guy to anybody but you, night and fischl have a more one sided sort of hate.

fischl hates night. she views herself as the real fischl, and oz doesn’t even recognize night as the (a?) princess! there’s something severely wrong here, and she hates it.

but night could not give less of a fuck about fischl. she does not care. she views her as a cheap copy, one not worth paying any mind to. why would she? she has everything, and fischl had to make up what she has. she has the real ozvaldo hrafnavins, she rules over the real immernachtreich, and she had all of them since the moment she was brought to life by you. she doesn’t need a vision to give her copies- psh, its an insult to imply she’d ever be jealous.

oh, and to clarify the point i made about her being an illusionist: in the event, fischl’s domain—it’s hard to explain, but each of the characters involved had their personal domain like based off of them—involved a lot of perspective tricks! so i figured night would be able to make illusions with electro, or be able to manipulate her surroundings in impossible ways via said perspective tricks. i’m thinking of her like holding a pebble up to her eye and with a flash of magic, suddenly it’s a boulder blocking off the hunters’ path! her and morax make for a team when trying to cut off the hunters, and her and barbatos can be clever together to get you out of sticky situations.

oh, but of course, since she is a princess, she has an incredibly strong sense of loyalty. her and oz are more than willing to lay down their lives for you—but then again, so are the others.

why auscap.. whys he australian… i need to know this lore.. it keeps me up at night

glad u asked because im so insane but everyone* i talk to just accepts auscap without question and it hnngngh

so for a little backstory it started in september last year** when i went away with a family friend who had also watched centricide and i asked "wouldnt it be funny if ancap centricide was australian" and there wasnt a single thought behind our eyes when we unaimoiusly agreed yes that would be funny and que the next 2 or so months of being the most annoying headcanoner ever but hey it was fun.

at the same time i was in 9th grade english class in australia and our topic was poetry analysis of silly bogans pre/during the gold rush and the more we analysed the more i was like "hey this shits kinda like ancap centricide" because idk if you have ever been in an australian english/history class but theres a lot of talk about the "[white] australian identity" mainly around when brits began moving here outside of sendign their convicts and during ww1. and the australian identity is mostly centred around being somewhat anti authoritarian and while not technically based in capitalism it was about rich british people getting a taste of the bush and not shutting up ever

because of [white] australias history being in the convicts sent over from england theres an intrinsic sense of anti authoritarianism that was albiet a lot more common in the 19th and 20th centuries but i digress its still relevant idc because it was used in these little bushmen shit where they would idolise this life living outside the government at the time

so the poem that we used for the exam at the end of year 9 english unit 4, while i dont rember the name of the poem nor the writer, i do remember what it was about and what it was about was this guy writing for 6 fucking pages about the bush and how it was so cool and literally made for him he loves it so much and at the back of the pages there was a little biography of the author and you find out that this fucking guy hadnt stepped foot in australia before turning thirty, hes some rich fucking english bloke who came over for the gold rush and left almost immediatly after. the poem we were analysing came from a guy who had never even seen the bush !!! and idk i think thats pretty ancap core

I’m not quite sure where it is now though.. oops. I was gonna lend my copy of Verity to my sis (interesting book .. will not elaborate further .) but its also mysteriously disappeared… I also have been in the process of moving for the past few months so there’s that too. Most of my books are still packed away, alas. Who knows if I’ll ever get them out of storage

17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.

Ooough.. Um. Well, this answer definitely contains detail and minutae as requested so uhh we’re putting it below the cut LOL

So my current wip is a hunger games fanfic; all the thg fics I’ve written in the past few years take place in the same universe; it’s an au of canon where the Mockingjay Rebellion fails. The story I’m currently writing takes place in the year 151 where the Games are still prevalent as ever. I don’t really talk about the context/lore about the actual rebellion failing in the story since its all background information that the characters already know (and it’s not super relevant to the story itself aside from the outcomes) so I might as well share here !

The Mockingjay Rebellion (also called the Second Rebellion) failed mostly because of District Three. They (probably with the help of Beetee) betrayed the rebels and Thirteen; the Capitol was able to win with their aid. They struck some sort of deal to benefit Three in the fallout (honestly the details were probably a little hazy because of wartime shenanigans).

The one solid piece of lore I have regarding the fall of the rebellion is the bombs— the ones that Beetee and Gale designed, the ones that killed Prim. (I mention this very briefly at the end of THE REPARATION CLAUSE). Remember how Snow uses the Capitol kids as a meatshield outside the President’s manor? Some heavy lore for this: that’s not the first time this happened. This is also covered in TRC, but tl;dr the Capitol does this during the Dark Days as well, except they genuinely thought the rebels wouldn’t dare strike. Case and point, the president at the time even puts his own kids in the mix. That president is Snow’s father. And the rebels attack anyways. Coriolanus’ older sister Venus dies in the attack; he’s 8, she’s 12 at the time. Yes, Coriolanus watches her die. A lot of other children die in the attack, and that ends up being the motivation for the Hunger Games, and why it specifically targets children. I can go off on a tangent about this versus the canon reason for the Games from BOSAS but thats a rant for another day. The thing I’d just like to highlight about that is the Capitol using personal vengeance to justify their systematic violence (which is a theme that I explore throughout my works in this series, and not just from the Capitol’s end).

ANYWAYS. Keep that in mind as we jump back to canon, where Coriolanus orchestrates this same mechanic of bringing the children into the President’s manor. He is So Very Aware of what happened the last time this was done. He knows the rebels have the balls to do it again. He knows how strongly his own people react to a massacre of this degree. …In canon, we know that a hovercraft with a Capitol seal dropped the bombs, and it was most likely the rebels. Here, it’s the opposite— Coriolanus calls the attack, and a hovercraft with the rebel seal/mockingjay drops the bombs.

In hindsight, I’m so glad I figured out the tiniest way to change the course of the Mockingjay Rebellion to fit the needs of my au LOL. It… really works so Perfectly though, and I love it. In TRC, I explore a bit how fucked up Coriolanus’ father became as a result of the war… and I think this does a really good job of illustrating how badly it messed with Coriolanus himself. (It feels… more fitting to me than uhh despising Katniss bc she reminds him of his weirdgirl ex lmao . Anyways.) He really orchestrated an attack that mirrored the same one that he watched kill his sister . …I just really love what kind of villain this makes him, idk. Obligatory mention of how someday maybe I’d like to write more about his rise to power as a character…

Okay ! You thought we were done? We’re not done, there’s a lot of fallout from That. The Victors’ Purge. Is. Merciless. …I’d like to think that in his last moments, Beetee is realizing his mistake in siding with the Capitol, rip. But…yeah, as I have it now, not a single Victor makes it out of that. (My initial reason for that was I had 0 intention of writing any canon characters ever LOL). But yeah, none of them make it out. District Thirteen is Exposed— they Exist, and everyone knows it. But Snow doesn’t demolish them. Instead, they’re now required to send tributes to the 76th Hunger Games, and every Games henceforth. (When I first started writing, I sort of like.. had them participating now bc i wanted one of the tribute chars to be from D13, and then later figured out the mechanics of Why. Another reason that my choice of divergence ended up being so unintentionally perfect; 13 had to be exposed in order to send tributes. I digress…)

…Can’t remember if I said this anywhere like in my fic or my blog or on discord or anything, but the Victor of the 76th is Hera Latier from Three. She’s Beetee’s niece, and she’s very important in terms of how my verse is structured bc a) she serves as a perfect symbol of what happens when you remain loyal to the Capitol, and b) after she wins, she makes a deal with Snow to allow D3 to become a Career district. It’s framed as their reward for serving the Capitol during the Mockingjay Rebellion and it Works.

So… yeah ! There’s the explanation for why D13 sends tributes to the Games and why D3 are Careers. But wait, there’s more ..!

Another thing I haven’t mentioned in my stories that much (which I’d love to write a little one shot or short story exploring)… the Presidency itself. I have a lot of… government worldbuilding, I guess, for how the Capitol/Panem actually functions. Tbh this answer is long enough that I don’t feel the need to go too deep into it, but what is relevant is elections ! I know, elections in a dystopian dictatorship regime? Wild… but I never said they weren’t corrupt. One thing that’s neat about the Capitol is they love to maintain appearances, and isn’t it nice for their citizens to feel like they get a choice in government happenings..? Anyways. This system v clearly benefits the president who’s already president— there’s no term limit, and after each election they win, the term extends by another four years (so after winning their second election, the pres doesn’t have to sit through another one for eight years, and so on). So, it’s very very rare for a sitting President to lose an election. I think for Coriolanus’s last election, he ended up winning himself like a 20 year term LOL. Anyways.

That being said … after Coriolanus’ presidency (he ends up retiring and peacefully passing it along), his granddaughter Celestia is elected (in the year 82 I think..? I’d have to fact check it but somewhere around then, idk). She’s a good president in terms of post-war recovery. But as time goes on, it becomes clear that she’s a little… softer on the districts than some in the Capitol would prefer. The tl;dr of this is that unrest starts brewing in D9 following a particularly brutal tribute death in the 118th Games; this continues to escalate up until the year 120, where it breaks out into riots/rebellion. These became known as the Grain Riots, and mostly stayed contained within D9 due to their disadvantage as a spread-out district with no real means to communicate and spread messages to others that would be willing to help. One of the main reasons that the Riots were actually stopped was due to the efforts of a young Peacekeeper named Venera Valorius, but not before she was severely injured (the rioters got ahold of her and took out one of her eyes rip). Venera got her revenge on D9 in the end, but she wasn’t finished.

Many in the Capitol believed that this could’ve been easily prevented, had Celestia been a stronger president, Venera chief among them. Celestia even wanted to cover up the whole thing and pretend like no sort of rebellion ever happened under her watch; she offered Venera the highest-tech replacement eye the Capitol had on the market, free of charge, and a life of comfort in exchange for keeping quiet about the whole thing. But to Venera, this was utterly unacceptable, and only served to highlight Celestia’s flaws as president.

So she did what any extremist who truly and whole-heartedly believes in their cause would do— she campaigned for the presidency for the next two years. Her platform was strong, and incredibly popular; Celestia couldn’t have her assassinated without sparking public outrage for offing a wounded war hero (rolls eyes) (and I think Celestia as a character wanted to be better than her grandfather, and had spent most of her life trying to do so). And so for the first time ever in Panem’s history, when the Election of 122 came around, an underdog won the presidency. It’s kind of funny; Venera is 22 at this time LOL. Tbh Celestia probably didn’t even think it was possible and severely underestimated her. Is this unrealistic? Probably. But hey I’m having fun in evil political girlboss land. Its also funny bc at the time of True Vengeance (151), Venera is still president, but she’s also divorced and a little bitter about it kxkxkdkd. But yeah her story would be a fun one to write someday. She’s. More than a little unhinged. If you’ve ever listened to the song Thought Contagion by Muse, thats. That’s her lmaoooo…

Umm well Ven and Oberon (pov chars for True Vengeance) just kinda live in my brain like little diseases.. or tumors.. jdkdkd. When it comes to writing them ig, since I can only write one at a time, I uhh idk, I guess I spend some time thinkin real hard about whatever situation I’ll be writing them in and what they’re thinking and feeling and wanting from it. Sometimes it’s like a “what would I do in this situation” and then add in their personality modifiers afterwards LOL (excess anger for both of them, and crushing self-loathing for Oberon, pride and desperation for Venatrix…. They’re doing so great…!)

I get out by going outside and touching grass (but then I think about how Ven is outside and she’s also probably touching grass wow shes just like me fr—) (/also j djdj).

Do I ever regret going there..? Hm. I wouldn’t say regret. There have been some scenes that I’ve written where I needed to like lay down afterwards and give my brain a break from the horror.. (Ch 22 was one of them ahaha..) but I wouldn’t say I regret that. Some things just take more effort for me to do. I know I’m not a super fast or efficient writer either, so I’m not the type to like.. get really Into It and dissociate for four hours and come out of that with 3k, if that makes sense. …I wouldn’t be opposed to that though, but my brain just doesn’t do that. More short bursts than anything, so I have to be ready at All Times … Idk I probably think more about my characters than normal but its fun so who cares !

“vega, you know anything about wrestling?” zaeed asks, coming to lean against james’ weapons bench. james frowns.

“not really,” he says. “never was my thing. i’m more of a ufc guy, myself.” zaeed clicks his tongue.

“well,” he sighs. “goddamn it.”

“esteban does, though,” adds james, gesturing across the shuttle bay. “didn’t know you did.”

“i don’t,” zaeed says flatly. “reese does, and there’s something going on on the citadel that we might able to swing by. figure they should get a night out, with everything going on.” james laughs.

“and you’re, what, not sure if it’s the right one or something?” he asks. “here i thought you were like the expert on all of reese’s interests.”

“do you know how many things cycle through that brain of theirs on a damn near daily basis?” asks zaeed, a bit sharply. “just because i know to engage with them when they’re focused on something doesn’t mean i filed away every little detail right now, given the whole goddamn war we’re in the middle of.”

“hey,” james holds up his hands defensively. “easy, man, i was just fucking with you.”

silence.

zaeed sighs, runs a hand down his face.

“i guess i’m just-”

“don’t worry about it, man,” says james. he gives zaeed a pat on the shoulder. he’s been able to figure there’s pieces to the puzzle of his relationship with reese that he’s missed out on, and tucks ‘don’t make jokes about it’ away in the back of his mind for the future.

“thanks.” zaeed pushes away from the bench, and stops at the back of the shuttle. steve is bent over, half inside an engine compartment with a welding torch in his hand. zaeed wraps his knuckles against the metal to get his attention.

“oh,” says steve. he extinguishes the torch. “haven’t seen you down here much. what can i do for you?”

“you like wrestling?”

steve blinks.

“uh. well, yeah,” he says slowly, casting a glance across at james. james gives him a grin and a thumbs up, and plops down on his weight bench with a pair of headphones in his ears. “can i ask why?”

“i’m just trying to make sure this thing coming to the citadel is the same shit reese likes before i end up sitting through five and a half hours of it,” he says. “i never remember the names of any of these jackasses when they’re rambling about it.”

“oh,” says steve. he relaxes a little. “yeah, sure. what company is it?”

“jesus, this is damn near ring side,” says reese as they wade through the crowd.

“actual ring side was sold out,” says zaeed. he gestures at their seats and plops down in one. reese sits next to him, slipping their leg through the strap on their bag and sliding it underneath.

“yeah those always go first,” they say. zaeed hums and cracks his beer open. they fall silent for a moment, looking between the flashing lights of the titantron and the rest of the crowd filling in. “we don’t have to waste time on this, you know.”

“we might all be fucking dead this time next year,” zaeed says. “one night out isn’t gonna accelerate that any goddamn quicker.”

“well i suppose thats-- steve!” reese chirps, cutting themself off. cortez looks up and offers a wave as he threads down the aisle and takes the seat on the other side of zaeed. “what are you doing here?”

“oh, you know,” he says, shrugging. “commander keeps telling me to take shore leave when the rest of us do, so.”

“i didn’t know you liked wrestling!”

“i don’t just only like shuttles,” he says. reese narrows their eyes.

“but you do just happen to have a seat right next to us,” they say. steve opens his own beer, and glances between them and zaeed.

“funny how that worked out, huh?” he asks, almost nervously.

“wait,” reese looks at zaeed. “did you buy steve a ticket because you had to go bother him about wrestling before you bought ours?” steve makes a show of feigning more interest in his drink than necessary. knowing what he does of zaeed’s penchant for arguments and a short temper, he can’t help the uncomfortable feeling that drifts over the three of them.

“yep,” zaeed says flatly. steve chokes on the mouthful of beer. he wasn’t expecting a casual admission. “no sense wasting money to listen to you lecture me about ‘outlaw mudshow bullshit’ or what-goddamn-ever.”

reese is quiet for a moment. 

“aw, that’s actually really sweet,” they say.

“oh, don’t start,” says zaeed. “we’re not here for-”

he gets interrupted by a brief second of microphone feedback as someone below slides into the ring and begins to greet the crowd. halfway through their welcome speech, drums begin blaring through the speakers.

“YOU THINK YOU KNOW ME?” joins it a second later, and is all it takes for reese to jump up and start yelling.

“and you don’t?” counters reese.

“well, i mean, sure it’s a good angle but he’s one of the nastiest heels for a reason, i gotta have more than just that to like someone,” says steve.

“i do to, i have eyeballs,” they say. steve rolls his eyes.

“and that’s all that matters for a wrestler, that they’re sexy?” he asks. reese cocks their head.

“you agree he’s sexy,” they say.

“wh- no!” steve stammers. “that’s not what i-”

“PLEASE repeat your last sentence for the court, mister cortez,” reese says, voice raised to be heard above the crowd, “so that we may properly gauge your sentence for horny jail!”

zaeed snorts into his beer and shakes his head as the argument between the two continues. the roar of the crowd and pulse of the music gradually fades into the background, and when reese looks over after the first match to find him asleep in his seat, they set his drink aside before it ends up in his lap and leave him to it. 

cortez nudges him awake during the last intermission before the main event, and an hour and a half later the three of them find their way back to the normandy dock. reese is wearing a new shirt and hoodie and carrying folded cardboard cutout of some jackass or another that zaeed clearly lost the argument about buying; something about a returned baby varren from the year before.

“hey,” steve says as they wait on the airlock to cycle. “that was nice. thank you.” the airlock hisses open and reese darts out, hollering for joker about having found him an extra co-pilot.

“frankly, it wasn’t for you,” says zaeed. “but you’re welcome.”

“oh, i know,” says steve. “but i think i needed a night out, too, regardless.”

zaeed quirks an eyebrow, and gives him a handshake before turning towards the bridge to begin yelling about how ‘that fucking thing isn’t staying up here’. steve hovers for a moment, listening to the way zaeed’s intrusion on the argument causes joker to change his stance from agreeing that the cutout isn’t staying on the bridge, to now insisting it wouldn’t be bad for morale after all. 

he chuckles a little, and makes for the elevator. shepard steps out when the doors open.

“hey, steve-” the commander stops mid greeting. “do i even want to know what the yelling is about?”

“probably not,” says steve. he hits the ‘close door’ button on the elevator, and grins as shepard stops short of being able to squeeze back in. tomorrow, the normandy shoves off and the war will resume.

tonight, they can handle the battle of the bridge.

some continuation i guess

this time with the emperor

we get the basic rundown, born to human parents, massively gifted, immortal, hidden among humanity and all that. It’s here where his motivation to shepherd humanities psychic awakening is really first brought up [something thats given overall more prominence in the book as well]. a much more interesting note however

now, this probably seems inconspicuous enough at first glance. Indeed even in modern canon 40k’s imperium is first actually created over ten millennia ago. However, take into consideration this little bit earlier in the lore section that i didn’t think to much off at the time

now, taking this into consideration, the implication here is that the age of strife, something that is typically thought to end right before the unification wars in modern 40k lore, is only considered to have ended after the emperor’s internment upon the golden throne, and that further the imperium seems to only officially be a thing upon the that internment. Now this suggests some things to me, two large ones possibly being

a) the unification wars and the great crusade were more so part of the same wider war, ie that the wars ‘only the emperor remembers’ were a large conflict between various warlords to determine who got the rightful rulership of the crumbling pre age of strife human civilization. or

b) the emperor started the age of strife in order to dominate humanity to control and shepherd the psychic awakening he saw humanity stumbling into.

take your pick i guess. food for thought and all that. also

in my earlier post i jumped the gun, the 1st edition emperor is still a punk who needs human souls to survive. Though in this case its not some vague need to bind his soul to the chair or anything, no, its just that he apparently cant eat or drink anything else and hes really god damn hungry and thirsty all the time. Which is hilarious and i almost feel is just a better explanation in general.

makes sense he would need to eat unconventionally.

as well, as opposed to specifying 1000 psyker souls a day it just mentions a vague ‘hundreds dying every day’ which is still a lot but also likely less then modern emps eats everyday.

some explanation/emperor wank on why the emperor needs to be fed everyday. not much to say, just that i feel like the implications here atleast lean a bit more towards the emperor being pitiable in his own right as someone so dedicated to this vague future ideal of humanity that hes forsaken most of his own physically and mentally. 

apparently humanity underwent no genetic changes over 38,000 years that werent the direct result of mutation from environmental hazards.

@ lordsofmedrengard  early dark angels lore, here we can see where they got stuck with the moniker of “first legion” from in 30k modern lore, and its cause here in the first 40k book they’re noted as being ‘honored as the first marine chapter’. Guess it was something they felt needed to carry over... I like the copious more amounts of wine in the old dark angels chapter, and they seem a lot more aristocratic here then in modern 40k. Which makes an interesting contrast compared to the barbarian stocks of soldiers mentioned earlier in the book as being preferred for “legiones astartes”

we get some rundowns on the branches of the adeptus terra next, not much particularly new to note outside of them all being part of this larger governmental priesthood. some highlights though

the old school custodes uniforms are in fact the traditional uniform of the custodes in 1st edition. 

custodes wielded ‘lasers built to resemble the traditional and symbolic guardian spear’ whatever the fuck that means

tech priests and the adeptus mechanicus were monastic monks who primarily lived on earth and didn’t stick metal parts into and all over their bodies. they were consequently much more boring as the echlissiarchies IT department.

arbites basically doubled in the sisters of battle’s role as the militant branch of the state religion.

arbites fashion choices and the arbites acting in a similar manner of chaplains as well really.

the more voluntary nature of the astronomican in the first edition, the trainees learn how to safely let the battery drain them but it still seems to be a demanding job with a high fatality rate

they also share monastic tendencies and a uniform with the mechanicus, though theres is a fashionable blue.

included the entire bit on the administratum cause honestly, i find it incredibly fascinating. The parallels are certainly there between modern and 1st edition administratum, but i feel how its presented here just has more teeth and intrest to it. That is to say, its not just the ‘oh what fate, administration has become even more horrid, tedious and soul draining in this grim dark future, woe be us!’ that tends to get tossed around when mocking administration. Instead its a literal organization of religious monks dedicated to tax filings, school administration, rezoning and what have you. Blessed be the regulations and all that. Is there small cults dedicated to paper clip gods? what holy rites are involved when faxing documents compared to when faxing fourms? This is shit i want to know more about.

all adeptus terra adepts carry a knife and are likely legally allowed to shiv you here as well incidentally. 

the inquisitors are mostly the same, though with no mention of chaos whatsoever. less sub divisions from the looks of it too. this bit did catch my attention though.

psychic powers seemed to be a hell of a lot more common among inquisitors back then as well.

quirky inquisitors, who’d have thunk it. [its not that surprising, i just like that they took the time to mention it is all]

don’t know wtf is going on here though, especially as to whats going on with dudes armour on the left. looks like a knight crossed with an oven.

we get the usual spiel of psyker background, but then we get some interesting differences in opinions here on psykers compared to modern 40k imperium. How justified or not it is, is up to you but its definitely a shift in tone i would say.

possibly the proto servitor narrative wise? As said, 1st edition 40k readily uses robots, so servitors would be unnecessary. technomats on the other hand fall between that as menials who likely operate these things but dont full on replace them like servitors eventually will.

astropaths are basically the same, though the 90% statistic im not sure if it holds over to modern 40k. im thinkin likely but i could be wrong.

navigators outside of not ubiquitously having the third eye mutation also seem to have much more personal freedom and respect in imperial society in 1st edition. probably pretty comfy to be a navigator back then really. Aside from that, navigator families are still a thing.

space marine time!

well we get the same ‘feral world recruits as warrior god soldiers’ sortta stuff, it is mentioned and stressed that hive world criminals apparently make better stock in terms of raw aggression. Entire gangs will even be rounded up for the purpose of making new space marines.

the early process to create a space marine. no special organs, but bio-chem and the black [plastic?] carapace were there from the start, and hypno indoctrination is alluded to. Apparently this is still barely controlled chaos though. [and on a personal note, nothing that indicates it was male exclusive either, outside of general attitudes of the 1980′s]

list of chapter symbols with names and colours, these keep appearing in the book. seems i was wrong on only the imperial fist symbol, its actually the crimson fists chapter symbol so thats 3 of the modern big 9 that didn’t exist back then.

we get a break down on the typical structure of a fortress monastery for space marines next, using the space wolves funnily enough who were far more normal as it were in 1st edition [and also their home world was lucan isntead]. and its got a lot, and well its all fairly interesting ill just shotgun blast some highlights

that the space wolves had an entire fuckin ship hanging in their great hall i find endlessly amusing, so thats why its there. the rest are interesting in terms of the domestic situation of space marines.

(this is less of a theory and more of a debunking of the mv though)

warnings: mentions of violence, murder (i wont include gifs of the bloody moments but it will be discussed!!!), animal abuse, and a bomb or two ? (someone gets blown up ;-;)

honestly the debunking might get a lil bit dark around the ling chao and ziyang individual parts, so be warned of that!

okay lets dive into it d(^-^)> !!!

to get the important info out of the way!

the start of the mv shows the three of them chilling on the couch, as friends do, watching,,well themselves on the screen (oner’s past performances as idols) (and i do believe that the idols part of this has some significance that i can figure out). the important takeaway from the beginning rlly is that they’re three good friends...who are completely unaware of each other’s secret occupations

their occupations being: ziyang, a murderer, yueyue, a spy, and ling chao, a hacker

now to jump into the main story! (starting around 1:35)

yueyue and ziyang both have the same target: the man in the restaurant. however yueyue gets there first and does his job well, as he gets away without being caught. ziyang is frustrated that his target is taken already.

*interesting detail here, but when trying to enter, ziyang shows them a ring with a purple jewel in the middle for entry,,,coincidentally, the man yueyue kills in the bar in his personal segment in the film later also has the same ring? obv the ring is for the restaurant entry so maybe ziyang wasn’t going to kill this “boss” but maybe negotiate/discuss something with him instead...but also thats disproven by the fact that ziyang pulled out a gun to presumably shoot him before realizing the dude was dead....

but also,,,suspicious how there was a zoom in to the purple ring when yueyue kills the man in the bar..maybe it means more than we think it does? altho im not too sure what  to think abt it for now

moving on 

okay so since yueyue is a spy n all, he has to confirm his kill somewhere right? this somewhere is a phone booth,,,one that ling chao has rigged up with a bomb,,,,

speculation: someone hired ling chao to kill someone who will be approaching the phone booth; at this time, lc doesn’t know that this someone is yueyue (and is v shocked to see him there through his cameras as evident by his “what the hell! are you kidding me?”)

....and after this part the film dives into their personal stories to give more background on who  these three are (i’ll expand on those after i finish explaining the present timeline ^^) before coming back to the main story 

so!

ling chao “accidentally” blew up yueyue oh no (he’s still alive tho yey)

& then yueyue holds up a piece of candy,,,and immediately knows its ling chao (cuz its the piece of candy lc was eating earlier in the film) 

(and to take care of all loose ends that my brain is providing me with: in the beginning they didn’t know abt each other’s secret occupations...how does yueyue know that lc is capable of doing this? my answer: they used to be agent buddies!!! i’ll expand on this later hehe)

 .

and so

it was at this moment ling chao knew...he fucked up

he’s afraid yueyue might come after him.

which, is exactly what yueyue does

after going home or somewhere, yueyue receives a text telling him to get rid of “them” (ling chao) bc his “identity is exposed” 

....so now yueyue has to go and hunt down his buddy ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

and they fight! looks very painful for ling chao,,,poor dude,,,

since ziyang comes out from the back door to join the fight, theres two possibilities that come from this:

1) ling chao knew yueyue was coming and knew he couldnt take him down himself (lets be honest; he looks rlly scrawny) so he called ziyang to his location for backup (how could he know ziyang can fight? agent buddies 👐) 

2) ziyang and ling chao live together in the same house

anyways, both results making it obvious that ling chao and ziyang are on the same team while yueyue is on another (lets ignore the fact that ling chao was getting up to fight ziyang as well)

the fight scene is so dramatic oml T-T

ziyang could also be motivated to beat up yueyue in this fight cuz the dude did  take his target before he himself could (loophole: how did ziyang know it was yueyue who took his target? answer: maybe yueyue left like a signature or smthn at the crime scene, or ziyang saw him walk out  ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯ )

and when they all beat the living heck out of each other and are dramatically lying down in different areas of the room 

the tv turns on to a council saying “still want to be idols?”

(and remember, the thing they were watching on tv earlier was themselves performing,,,as idols. i cant connect it further than that so lemme know if yall figure smthn out ^-^)

so mayhaps this council is yueyue’s agency and they wanted to turn the trio against each other...? they would have set this whole situation up: they knew ziyang wanted to kill the restaurant “boss”, so they assigned yueyue to take care of him first, which creates conflict between those two. then, they hired ling chao to rig up a phone booth with a bomb; basically setting him up against yueyue

whether this council succeeds with their plan or not is unrevealed bc the film has a “to be continued” at the end, so the storyline still will have more to it!!!

although i would say the council succeeded since they all did beat each other bruised and bloody

.

that leaves the question: why  is the council setting them up against each other?

what are there previous connections beyond them just being friends 👀 ?

and here i shall bring back the “agent buddies” bit i was talking abt earlier, as well as why i linked the agent song in the beginning

near the end of the mv, there’s quite a lot of dialogue between the three of them, and it goes like this:

(not sure how accurate my hearing is but its enough to make some guesses 😅)

agent buddies! the three of them used to be agents, as the song is titled, at some agency...and they probably made a pretty strong team together

the agency story would explain why they all seem to be good fighters too!

thats why the council might have wanted to tear them apart. perhaps the council was doing something that they knew would displease the trio, so they needed them separated lest they team up and try to defeat them 

i also think this audio could have been describing a mission going wrong for them, possibly their last one as a team. someone was probably hurt (im betting on either ziyang or ling chao), and they quit the agency and aimed to live normal lives from then on

...but old habits are hard to forget, so ziyang starts to kill ppl in his free time, yueyue joined another agency as a spy, and ling chao uses his hacking skills for other purposes

however they all dont tell each other, which could add on to the tension of their fight at the end of the film

.

now to dive into their individual bits of the film. these all don’t connect much to the main lore, just expands onto their lives with their secret occupations btw!

YUEYUE

his segment details moments in his daily agent life; im guessing he’s not very happy with it judging by his nightmares? or the nightmares are bringing up his past at his old agency which he does not like

he’s also master of disguise woah

personally i think he’s losing “who he is”. he’s always playing the role of another person, always putting on another disguise...so he starts losing his sense of identity (if that makes sense ;-;) 

(and if you wanna stretch it and make things wholesome, maybe the only times he [feels like himself] is when he’s around his two friends)

so basically: he’s always filling out other personas to the point where he doesnt know who he is anymore

(this is also the segment where he kills a man in the bar with poison,,,and the man was wearing the same ring as ziyang,,,,which is like Hm. why’d the directors do that 🤔)

ZIYANG

aka the murderer :D

(and not just regular serial killer type, more like joker-esque type where they’re a bit insane,,,)

okay his segment starts of with him dragging a man through a white room, where the floors is covered with plastic, and on the walls are a bunch of clay molds of human body parts

my brain has concluded that! ziyang takes clay and makes molds of his victim’s faces/body parts of who he kills! to make statues! 

(i dont even know how i got there aksjdhdh but thats just what i assumed the first time i watched this film thingy)

and to make it more messed up than it already sounds,,,im guessing he’s a famous statue maker too, and holds shows where he presents his works to the public and maybe even bids them off ?

     ,,,,little did the audience know,,,,

          (this kinda remind me of sally and gabe’s statue from the pjo too now aksjhdkdh)

(i got this assumption from 6:50 in the film where he walks out in front of an audience who start clapping,,,and let my brain run wild with the rest,,,)

of course, he probably kills off the people he was the molding the clay off of once he’s done with his works,,,or sometimes even in the middle of his works as shown in the mv (*-* )

but alas that is not all to his story,,,

judging by his flashbacks when he’s beating that one dude to death with a bat, he used to be bullied when he was in school, which seems to be the source of all his anger throughout the film..

    ( yeah he killed the bullies too (_ _ )> )

its part of his personality to be rough and short tempered - he doesn’t like people looking down on him (as the bullies did)

and,,,if you want to be wholesome again! perhaps he found some bits of happiness and peace when hanging out with the others :]

his is pretty simple and is already explained in the mv itself! i’ll walk ya’ll through it though in case you didn’t watch the film tho akdjdjkf

basically: he’s just a dude who loves dogs :]

a lot

in his segment, a girl (handong, looking absolutely stunning ToT) approaches him wanting to take home another stray, and when he asks her where how the previous dog she adopted was doing, she says that “my bestie loved him a lot, so i gave him to her” ( -_- )

so...he lets her keep the dog, but also decides to keep an eye on her...to the point where she becomes very paranoid that someone is stalking her (which..she isnt wrong in)(but she doesn’t believe it to be ling chao because they’re..dating? i think? and he lulls her into a false sense of security that he’ll protect her from harm)

and then bam! one day he breaks into her house, steals the dog away, and then,,,,blows her up,,,,,

(i must say as disturbing this scene is,,,,i absolutely adore ling chao’s look here askjdjfd)

(i mean?? look at him?? loving the black lipstick ugh)

okay anyways the next flashbacks reveal that handong was abusing her dogs & starving them, and him being the animal lover he is, decides to kill her for it ig

(also she,,,stabbed the other dog that she “gave to her bestie” so-)

yeahh thats the end of his story; nothing much to take from it except that his hacker skills are still intact past agent days

okay i promised id do it and im doing it: Explaining The Plot Of That AU I’m Vague About: The Post

(as i was preparing to write this i actually got my 250th follower, which slapped)

so i’m just gonna start with the simple version, which is this: it’s a rebel AU which primarily centers around the tallest, who are both defective. they give up on trying to make any meaningful changes as figureheads, and instead direct their attention to being involved with the “neo defect revolution,” or NDR. they do manage to make one change as tallest- there is a garbage dump planet turned into a sanctuary for defectives (who in this au are executed once discovered,) and eventually enough of the populace finds out about it that the tallest have to deal with it. they finesse their way into kicking it out of the empire, so now it’s its own planet with its own rules, governments, and most importantly, immigration policies and protections

a lot of stuff happens and it’s gonna be structured using arcs, and each arc has a separate protagonist/deuteragonist/tritagonist lineup (but that doesnt mean the same lineup won’t be used multiple times!) and yes the insane list of OCs are for this au alone: some arcs are very OC-centric, some have OCs as supporting characters, and a couple are all-OC or mostly-OC. 

its going to be very longform and it’ll span from the tallest’s elite training days to twenty years after zim arrives on earth. (the 20 year gap btwn zim arriving on earth and the story proper isnt as tightly plotted as later tho.) the point is to see how a revolution on the scale of the NDR works, who was fucked over by defact laws, who was fucked over by other laws, etc. theres a lot of lore and a lot of headcanons i made for this AU and even a conlang. i am a being of hubris. itll be a series of fics, some multichapter and some oneshots. 

the series as a whole is gonna be called Invader Zim: Annexed or just Annexed for short. its a pun on an irken word that sounds similar but means the exact opposite. i am not explaining more bc itll be explained in the fic itself. but thats why the tag for it is #anx lmao

i didnt mean for this to be as long as it got but under the cut im gonna breakdown some of the early arcs:

so it all starts with a fanfic called Love Is The H-Word (no the “h-word” isn’t “hell.) it centers around red and purple as elites-in-training, who do a little whoopsie and have an egg. purple doesnt wanna smuggle it into a smeetery, bc then he’ll never see it again, so they go to the defect sanctuary (still a part of the empire at this point.) purple knows he’s defective while red has a hard time accepting that he is as well, due to events from his past. but being around all these other defects are starting to wear down his denial, and the fic is all about that. it also sets up some plot stuff, like how defects adopted a self-identifier in the word “heretic,” hence the sanctuary being named, “heretirk.” (hey look my url!) (no, the “h-word” is not heretic, either.) 

i dont wanna say what happens in that fic bc spoilers, but stuff Happens. its also when we meet some ocs that end up being important, and the existence of others are foreshadowed. this is also where we meet the tallests’ future advisor, rarl kove, for the first time, as a local who decides to keep them company. purple bonds with kove due to their shared interest in politics, while red reluctantly bonds with titch, a young irken (a smeet in heretirken standards, an adult in imperial standards- did i mention he and red are roughly the same age? lol) who is interested in military stuff and thrill-seeking and general destruction. titch is pissed because he claims his father is stealthing on devastis as a military commander, but won’t let titch sneak in as a soldier, as titch is deaf. 

(fun facts: in the au, “titch” is regional slang for “a little bit.” ironically, titch the character is above-average in height.)

due to titch’s deafness, he developed “gesturespeak,” irken sign language, so he can communicate. this existing becomes important later

a oneshot called invade the system is right after h-word in publishing order. it details zim’s exploits in leaving foodcourtia, where he was assigned and infiltrating the invading academy he eventually graduates from (in this au, zim is too short to be an invader, which sucks because the hight minimums for the military are really short to begin with lmao)

the fic chronoligically after H-Word focuses on red and purple being back in their platoon on devastis, specifically red navigating his training and his relationships with two defective platoonmates, pon and zi (who are in h-word a little,) after the realization that he too is defective. it also focuses on how the irken military works, and how they train their soldiers. 

the first arc overall focuses on red and purple going thru training and such, and ends after they graduate and are on the field, working to get commander rank. (they planned to gain commander rank then leave and go back to heretirk to train an army there, as heretirk has.... no army.) in the middle of this, they’re pulled out and told they are to become the next tallest. they debate over staying and taking the job or just running to heretirk, and they ultimately decide to stay.

the next arc i call the “bridge,” tbh. its less tightly plotted than the other arcs; fics are spread apart from each other chronologically and all that. it spans the time after the tallest being appointed to a little after zim arrives on earth. it also has a couple of anthologies focusing on imperial defects- each chapter is a new character. these guys are all important and the easiest way for me to introduce their backstories without cluttering everything up is anthology style, lmao. other things that happen are a look into how the tallest work, eventually culminating with the resolution of the tallest having to Deal With Heretirk, tenn’s rescue from meekrob, and zim on earth obtaining a half-irken smeet named pip due to stealing an Unethical Science Experiment from dib (which is pip.) the bridge is basically just. “heres some stuff that happens between point A and point B so when we get to point B you’re not confused as all hell.” 

the next arc focuses on zim. in the first fic, pip is sick and zim is trying to get into his neighbor’s pants, to cope. this basically sets up that zim in this au has no idea how to find personal fulfillment in living- he’s only OK if he focuses on pleasing someone else, be it taking care of pip or doting on the neighbor, some rando human named piqu (pronounced, “peek.”) this is mainly a cute romance story with the underlying veneer of “a child is slowly and painfully dying” in the background. fun! 

without spoiling the circumstances, zim and pip end up on heretirk, which at this point is its own independent planet. pip is in the hospital for most of it so zim has to do his own thing. computer fans rejoice bc hes basically zims dad at this point, who tells him to go outside and get some fresh air and talk to the locals instead of schmooping or screaming in anxiety. im sneakily introducing more characters like ini, the “next-gen zim;” a short bio-engineer (she works on PAKs) who was constantly passed over by everyone because they dont trust someone that short or they dont trust someone that spazzy, even though shes actually brilliant. also her brother mo, who’s a pilot that NOBODY will teach military-class ships to (at this point, HTK has a population of ex-military that had their old ships, but still no formal army) because he doesnt talk and they think hes “slow” as a result. for the curious, he is physically able to talk most times, he just doesnt like it. zim ends up teaching him how to fly military-class which ends up being important laterrr

no really, theyre quadruplets. named ini, myni, minie, and mo. these are real characters. 

minie isnt introduced till later. shes too cool to be the side character in someone elses arc. she is feel uncomfortable when we are not about her.

myni is busy palling around with pip and pip’s friend “elly” (real name elevenn, with two N’s.) elly is a half-meekrob War Crime Baby and tenn’s smeet. he has vision problems (he can “see” energy signatures of things, as opposed to conventional sight. everything is monochrome and he has to really focus to see like, words on a paper. also fuck tablets) but the trade-up is telekinetic powers (that he cant use too much or his brain will melt. fun!) this isnt relevant until the arc AFTER zim’s, where they end up poking around a historical site due to myni’s interest in that kind of thing, and they find logs of an old revolution (that was actually pretty successful in their goal, before they were caught and executed,) that lead them to a man named lefy. he helps with revolutions and helped these guys, and the trio go to seek him out; myni because he wants to impress his parents with helping them, pip because after they’ve recovered enough to walk around and do stuff, feel like they need to justify the choice to save their life and make their dad proud and all that, elly because he doesnt want pip to get hurt and die. And thats where the stuff REALLY starts happening and i cant tell u more sorry

okay im rewriting tgcf (only in my head im lazy) here are my notes on hua/lian specifically this is long bc fuck it. major spoilers obviously and same trigger warnings as the content of the book

disclaimer disclaimer disclaimer that i dont know anything about the cultural background of anything in tgcf or story tropes etc etc this is just I Think It Would Be Neat If..

there’s not really any reason to keep hc as a kid in the backstory BUT in the story in the intro (which i like narratively) it still says that it was a child who xie lian caught. it’s one of those things that got added to the legend to make xie lian seem even more noble, there are also probably a few other inaccuracies in the intro that get found out as the story progresses. in actuality hc was kind of a known troublemaker to the city guards or whatever or had been in the past. maybe his mother just passed after a long illness and his tumble off the wall was intentional. either way he’s kind of pissed at xie lian for saving him. xie lian is concerned about his health so he has to stay at the palace for a while he recovers and only interacts with xie lian a few times. there is a point where he says out loud all the things about the divide between the rich and the poor that have been illustrated by the scenes with mu qing. feng xin tells him to shut up but mq goes dead silent bc he kind of agrees but can’t say and does have his loyalty to xie lian (its a whole thing) and the resentment begins

also i think young hc’s personality is similar to his personality in the present but a bit more reserved and he’s got like this plucky streak or something. also he is unquestionably gay

anyway hc sneaks out of the palace and xie lian catches him obviously but they have a brief little heart to heart where xie lian is like “look you can go if you want here take this money food” etc and demonstrates that he has actually listened to what hc has to say and hc is like “wow no one other than my mom has ever listened to me in my life so thats what that feels like i kind of like it” and he probably is a bit awestruck by xie lian in different ways and after that is like “okay this kingdom sucks but.. that guys not so bad”

sad ironic sense that if xie lian hadnt ascended until he was older he may have actually be able to do something about the problems in the kindgom but alas we have a cycle to perpetuate

the “take me as the meaning of your life” scene still happens p much the same but xl doesnt recognize hc who is actually now at his lowest point. hc tried to find ways to make things better for people like him but he simply did not succeed (maybe his were efforts quashed by the corrupt authorities? its implied probably) and he’s more disillusioned with the kingdom and life than ever but still is holding on to those memories of xie lian as proof that it doesnt have to be like this but that thread is slipping until!! whose fucking voice is that??? thats right its the one person you ever believed was truly good and went and proved you right by ascending to the heavens at age 17!!! guess its time to stan him forever

anyway hc joins the army but legally or whatever and tbh i would have hated the flower cave scene regardless of anything i just hate any sort of s*x pollen trope or anything so thats gone (they can have a wound tending scene or something tho thats the good shit) and instead we have HL getting overwhelmed by some other demons or something together and xie lian protects hc and they both get injured very badly (maybe hc would lose a limb but im not sure how that would work once hes a ghost so thats on hold for now until i figure it out) and xl is fine but this situation ends up being part of why mq kicks hc out of the army but yes hc still ends up dying on the battlefield anyway </3

the wuming stuff is the same i think but also at some point xl is despairing and says something about that guy he saved from falling and wonders what happened to him and fire ghost wuming is like !!!!! (wait does this happen in canon? honestly it should)

in mount tong’lu i was tempted to actually have hc have a similar moment to the bamboo hat scene with the humans who are trapped in there but im not sure if i just want it to be the same as xie lian’s story... also i like the idea of hc needing to hang onto his devotion to get through his first few centuries of being a ghost so maybe he’s just inspired by xie lian’s sacrifice with the sword and the souls and thats why he claws his own eye out as a sacrifice

so this can go one of two ways from here!!! both are me projecting hardcore so take them with a grain of salt im not saying im right about the way relationships should be these a re just my thoughts <3

1. (the not fun one but it still has a happy ending) the story more or less continues the same as canon. pure and simple devotion is what carries hc through the centuries. we get to see some ghost city antics and its fun but there is nothing complicated about the devotion hc just wants to find xl and protect him. hualian eventually meet. they get along pretty well!! eventually there are cracks. when you hold someone in your mind for so long you have expectations for them that no person can meet consistently. hc thinks that since he’s seen xl during the worst time in his life that he can handle anything but it turns out that as amazing as xl is, he is also just a person and sometimes he is wrong or irrational or annoying. xl is so happy to have someone who will listen to him talk that he kind of neglects to really get to know who hc is as a person and hc is kind of like “huh i didnt expect this but im kind of hurt. i genuinely thought that i just wanted to serve and protect you but actually im my own person and this is weird” but he doesnt say anything he thinks he has to stick to his promise and it gets kind of uncomfortable!! maybe his luck goes haywire bc his faith gets rocked for the first time ever and they end up having to talk it out but their relationship is stronger for it <3

2. (i think this one is fun) hc struggles with waiting. he does it but its hard. he has doubts and when all his efforts to find xl are fruitless he starts to grow bitter and curses the day that xl saved him. his faith burns low but doesnt go out. then ghost city!! hc realizes that he can finally help people like him, even if theyre ghosts now and hes grateful for the chance to do this and grateful to xl and resigns himself to waiting. but its still hard!! he realizes that his luck is tied to his devotion and gets kind of pissed about it!!! he tries to remember all the good things about xl but its hard!!! his search becomes more about repaying a debt so he can be free than anything else, he just wants to help the common people spirits with no strings attached (this actually allows him to keep his luck bc he has the same wish as xl and thats what makes him a true believer!! is this corny? does it make sense? i dont care) and so eventually when he finds xl he’s like okay how quickly can i repay this debt/how can i keep my powers but then xie lian is... so good... and hc actually really likes him he remembers why he swore his devotion in the first place. now hes conflicted!!! dont worry they fall in love tho <3

People think Emilie and Gabriel found miraculous when they were adults but this is impossible because Gabriel has been a famous fashion designer for a long time and a butterfly with the logo of Gabriel's brand . Thomas Astruc says we will see the relationship between Emilie and Gabriel and I think should be linked to these events . Thank you so much for this fantastic question, this is one of my favorite miraculous topics to theories about! I just wish I could give you a solid answer to that. But I’ll glady tell you my thoughts on it! I apologize beforehand if this turns out real long (which it probably will)

Well the whole Agreste-Miraculous-backstory is still very much in the blur to this point but I agree this much with you that Emilie and Gabriel MUST have had the peacock for longer than we initially thought. In the originis episodes it pretty much seems like Gabriel was using the butterfly for the very first time. Nooroo didnt know him yet and Gabriel commanded him to tell him about the butterflys powers. So I believe the butterfly and the miraculous book were indeed found by Gabriel and Emilie on their last journey to Tibet since gabriel said in “the colllector” to Marinette that it was Emilies very last gift to him from that very journey (and this show wouldnt have included that line if it wasnt true. That was staright backstory information for the viewer)

BUT the peacock miraculous was found earlier and if I’m right the show already gave us some clues in the very same episode I just mentioned. Remember this in the collector?”

This old drawing from Adrien was shown for an other reason than just highlighting Gabriels ruthlessness and Adriens sorrow. Look at the picture closely

You see the mountains in the background? Good. Now let me tell you something about Tibet and things might get clearer.

Tibet is a highland in central Asia and in my country (germany) it’s even called “The roof of the world” because its one of the or even THE highest place on earth (fun fact, thats also where Mount Everest is). This is highly interesting and suspicious when you remember that the miraculous lore in general is very Chinese/Asian oriented and THIS

is the location we were given were master fu lost the peacock,butterfly and book. (look at the background, thats one HELL of a high place! They are above the CLOUDS)

So the mountains in the background of Adriens old family vacation drawing? I bet my left arm thats Tibet and the time the peacock was found. The show decided to give us both the drawing and Fus backstory in the same episode, we were supposed to connect something there. I’m not entirely sure how “intentional” the search was since Adrien was brought along but I’m certain the first “founding” was there. There is no other reason they would include mountains into the picture after visually revealing some of Fus story. It could have been anything else that isnt so especific but they chose this setting and “Miraculous” doesnt introduces or hints at loations they are not gonna use one day properly.

Them finding the peacock around 10 years ago (I’m guessing Adrien to be 4-5 years old in the drawing. Its a typical drawing style for a kindrgartner in Tv-shows/movies) also can explain why Gabriel knows so much about these two miraculouses and why hes so much more experienced in using and holding his powers than LB and CN even though he started using his on the same day as they did.

The new webepisode “Gabriel” also comfirmed that Emilie DID indeed use the peacock prior to the show (and thats why shes in a coma now)

And from the way Gbriel reacted to Mayuras help we can definitly tell that Gabriel has witnessed/ exerienced in himself how the (damaged) peacocks powers work and that consequences come out of using it

I can not present you an answer to what Emilie did with the peacock with a clear conscious (I’m having an idea though. But for now I’ll say it couldnt have been anything publicly), but I’m convinced Emilie used and learned alot about the peacock and that Gabriel was IN in all of this and supported her. Thats how he got so experienced and knowledgeable, though Emilie!

But to come back to the beginning and summing up my answer to one of your points: No I dont think they were teenangers when they found the 3 lost miraculou objects, they were adults.

BUT you are again making a fantastic point with the butterfly being Gabriels logo for who knows how long! Because that is 100% true and certainly no convincedense (as if). Alright, lets break this down too!

For this I need to say that I strongly believe that, basically, it was Emilie who accidentally started all of this. The show portrays her as the missing link to the Agreste-Mystery/Drama/Backstory and she wouldnt have been taken out of the picture for now or presented to us like that if she wasnt an important key character with critical knowledge to the story. But I digress. As stated before, Gabriel verly likely learned everything he knows about the miraculouses from HER so she had to have been the one who learned about it first. Meaning, I think Emilie was a Miracuous enthusiast since she was younger (possibly teenager/young adult as you said) and got a little.. well, a little obsessed? In the in-universe world the miraculous have heavily influenced the history of earth for who knows how long already. So many heros and villains were made by them, so I dont thing I’m reaching at all when I say that I’m sure that at this point, they have become legends and myths (“The Pharao” basically comfirms this with the puplicly historical evidences of the past Ladybugs). So yeah, I think Emilie really got into this miraculous mythology (I have a suspicion how, but I need more details first before I’m confident to state and stant to it. Just know, I have a solid reason in mind when I tell you this). And Gabriel who fell in love with her, supported her in her interest and odd hobby (probably couldnt even have imagined how big this “hobby” would become tho). This is how I think Gabriel ended up with the butterfly as his logo. Out of love for her (which in THIS show is VERY likely) he dedicated his fashion labels sigiture sign to his wifes interest (which also fits to the name “Agreste” which literally can be translated to “butterfly”, so smart move there Gabe), also it seems like Emilie had a special interest in the butterfly because “the collector” God I love this episode shows us how Adrien realised that the mansion is full of hidden butterflies and the show wouldnt present that as something bad if it didnt had a deeper meaning.

What I didnt state above because it fits better here is that, on the vacation from Adriens drawing and where they likely found the peacock, I think Emilie knew it could/would be there. I just find it highly unlikely that they just found a miraculous on their family vacation that Emilie has been obsesion over for so long, in the highlands of Tibet. Like, how random and Anticlimactic would that be?

No, I think she knew. Emilie might have figured out that the Miracuouses should be there, so they went to Tibet to find them. Though I’m honestly thinking that finding them was Emilies secret side project and she didnt tell Gabriel about her other intentions there. Because I dont see why else a 4 years old Adrien should have been brought along, if it wasnt planned as a simple “family vacation” to Tibet.
