I love you albums. I love you songs connected by similar themes. I love you listening to songs in a specific order picked by the artist. I love you reoccurring motifs throughout the same album. I love you album covers. I love you albums with extended editions. I love you songs that reference each other.
So yesterday was Spotify Wrapped, and that’s pretty cool. You know what else is pretty cool?
That’s right! Tomorrow is Bandcamp Friday, the day that Bandcamp waives its revenue share to put even more money directly into the pockets of your favorite artists. When you buy music from Bandcamp on Bandcamp Fridays, 93% of the money you spend goes to the artist/label (on average). This means that tomorrow is a really great day to look at your Spotify Wrapped top 100 playlist and ask yourself if there’s any artists there you need to throw a little cash to. Me personally, I’m thinking of getting into some more Ginger Root. But whoever your faves are, whatever your genre personality, whichever -core suits you the best, remember:
Because as useful as Spotify is for us as the listeners, the fact remains that artists don’t get shit.
All Star was Unironically such a great choice for the wad credits like yeah it has comedic value as a meme and shrek ref BUT if you look at the lyrics it actually goes very hand in hand with wads message with the whole ”its getting tough out here but you gotta do it anyway” said in a funny way? Is it really so shocking Smash Mouth let him use it?
Obviously we’re all in agreement that Stayed Gone is unilaterally one of the best songs in the season, but the entirety of the piece just drives me insane for characterization, like -
Vox is so fucking terrified at the thought of Alastor returning after whatever the hell set them off in the first place that he’s attacking Alastor’s character with everything he has to keep his empire going.
And Alastor…doesn’t give any less of a shit. He’s completely and fully aware of how desperate and scared Vox is, and takes the insults as a tease, not even a challenge (because of course he does, it’s all a game to him, and Vox is nothing he can’t handle) and appreciates the visible, immense embarrassment and pain that he’s stringing Vox through.
One whole two minute back and forth did more to illustrate Alastor’s sadistic joy and inflappable attitude towards Vox (right alongside Vox’s utter contempt and obsessive desperation) than any long explanation could have done.
Going through old playlists from years Is such an expierence. I keep switching between "I listened to this??? Why??" To "MY LONG LOST LOVE HOW COULD I NOT LISTEN TO YOU FOR YEARSSS" to "why is this on here" to "AYYY I miss that phase"
Pick a song based on an extremely bad description! This week's theme is folk music (but more global folk and less Joan Baez. Nothing against Joan Baez; this just isn't that).
At the end of the week, I will make a playlist out of all songs on the poll, in order from least votes to most votes. If you are curious about a song and don't want to wait a week, shoot me an ask and I will tell you the name/artist of the song. If you want to be reminded when the playlist drops, leave a comment or put it in the tags, and I will tag you when it's over and done with.
And please reblog! More reblogs = more votes = a more chaotic playlist, and isn't that always the point?
