aita for talking about fnaf to my little cousin?

so fnaf is one of my (im 21) special interests for a while. my little cousin (age 7) has been mentioning it lately, because he heard about it from kids at school. Because of this i've ended up telling him about a lot of the lore and stuff, and trying to explain things to him. Additionally, he asks me questions about fnaf, and I do my best to explain it to him. I also sometimes watch fnaf videos with him.

My mom says i shouldn't do this because he gets scared easily by stuff, and his mom doesn't really like him to see scary stuff. My mom says I shouldnt tell him about fnaf or show him stuff from fnaf.

Both my mom and his mom will go out of their way to hide scary things from him like halloween monster pictures. Part of this is because he got kind of scared of opening doors due to the Doors game on roblox. He is too scared to sleep in his room alone and always sleeps in his mom's bed because he is scared of the dark and has nightmares sometimes. And he wasn't allowed to watch any youtube on halloween because of possibly seeing scary stuff. They think that the scary stuff is what made him scared of the dark and have nightmares, and not be able to sleep in his room alone.

In my opinion, I don't *think* im doing anything wrong, because when I was a kid, fnaf came out, and plenty of kids were into it, and have been ever since. And ever since fnaf, theres been many things inspired by it that kids like. Like poppy playtime and Rainbow Friends and all that. I also loved horror and creepy stuff as a kid. I liked creepypasta, but I can relate to being scared by some of that stuff. As a kid I was really really terrified by the rake creepypasta.

Also in my opinion I think he knows and understands his own limits, because one time we were watching a fnaf video, and he seemed to think the video was too scary and wanted to stop watching it. So we stopped watching it and did something else. And he seemed fine after we stopped didnt seem scared or upset after that. I also feel like in my opinion, explaining the lore to him makes it *less* scary, because he's understanding the "how and why". however because the fnaf lore does involve child death i see how it could be bad for him to learn about it.

He seems to enjoy it though, I'm not forcing it on him and he loves to ask me questions about it, and is excited whenever he comes over to talk about it. Also we've played things together before that are "scary" like baldis basics, and then also a minecraft backrooms game which actually ended up scaring me more than him!

Basically though Am i the asshole for basically going against what my mom and his mom think he should be doing? I can see how his mom especially might think i could be crossing a line because of what she wants for her child. Obviously his mom might know him better because he is her child after all. And because of my autism I don't really understand childcare and childraising. And it is hard for me to understand their perspective. I am still very childlike and dependent on my parents so I don't have a fully formed adult perspective yet I dont think.

But at the same time I almost feel that she is being sheltering, because I've noticed its common for kids to like this sort of thing, and its not always necessarily a bad thing. Because also theres scary movies like coraline but are geared for kids. (My little cousin didnt like coraline, thought it was scary, but thats just an example.)

I feel like also they should trust him more. He seems to know what is too much. Because he is vocal to say what is too scary for him. He seems to be able to set boundaries about it, because he will say that he doesnt want to play a minecraft game that is too scary, or watch a video that is too scary. I'm also rarely the one to pick the games or videos we play, it's his own interest.

Fnaf has been something we both really enjoy, and to me that is special when we get to enjoy something together. I of course still often play with him when its something only he is interested in, but not always. The times I don't play with him are when I'm doing something relating to one of my other special interests and I can't handle being interrupted. Which makes him sad that I can't play but he does understand that because of my autism that it would be difficult on me to stop my activity. I really like that he is into fnaf now because that means its something that I can enjoy for special interest reasons and he gets to hang out and play with me.

But AITA because this is against his mom's wishes?

not even close to informed or involved w the current republican ao3 staff drama (obviously) but im reminded of that poll that was going around star trek tumblr that asked "do you think a bigot could be a trekkie?" and dozens of people were giving their impassioned takes of how OBVIOUS it is that trek could never be enjoyed by someone whos racist or homophobic or disagrees with Their Personal Beliefs. never minding how star trek is full of bigotry both fantastical and real-world. even the highly praised "progressive" elements like televisions first interracial kiss! (was not actually tvs first interracial kiss) when watched in context its a white man being forced onto a black woman. never mind the wide swaths of openly right wing fans who love the franchise. i like it and im Progressive, so it Must Be Progressive And Revolutionary.

people who identify strongly by their personal perception of their own political beliefs have a knee jerk angry reaction to learning that people with other beliefs enjoy the same things as them. its why certain misogynistic rock fans dedicate their online existence to shitting on babymetal or whatever. its why any tumblrina has ever made a post about liking something in a way that is inherently more clever or thoughtful or deep than any other fan does (bc theyre smarter than Those Fans and not like Those Fans and tbh Those Fans are Not Real Fans)

of course a person can support the republican party while also working for ao3? there are republicans who consider themselves lgbt allies. there are gay republicans. there are gay people who are white supremacists and antisemites and transmisogynists and xenophobes. there are people who masturbate privately to the fantasy of trans bodies qnd its alluring specifically BECAUSE of how publicly they devalue and despise trans lives.

when you learn that you enjoy something thats also enjoyed by bigots, the response shouldnt be to defend yourself, or launch into no-true-scottsman bullshit, or to forcibly distance yourself from those bigots. the appropriate response is to return to the source material and ask yourself why it might attract bigots. ask yourself whether you noticed those themes the first time. (its maybe more obviously true that a fanfiction archive accessible to anyone will have a lot of highly offensive shit, sure, but this is true for any movie, book, or tv show you enjoy.) ask yourself this: if watching a tv show with gay characters ISNT enough to make a person an ally, what am i doing that makes myself at all different from those people?

you will struggle find a fandom or media property or piece of art that is one hundred percent pure and untouched by cruelty or hate. because everything and everyone is the product of the world they come from. make personal judgements and pay attention to the underlying intent and messages of the media yiu internalize and share with others. i dont remember what this post was about. OH YEAH its not even slightly surprising or confusing to anypony who thinks for more than a second that the "my free speech at the expense of anyone's comfort (including the comfort of the people im writing porn about. and yes that includes sexual rpf of child actors)" website would have right wing support. oky bye

what are the things you hate most about shadow? i think i was mostly neutral-negative towards him but fandom blorbofication made me so instinctually averse to anything about him i cant really pinpot the ones that annoy me the most

i'll admit at first it was mostly because i was annoyed by the fandom's approach to him but i try my best not to get swayed by other peoples perception of sonic and i went back to look at the source material so i can bitch and back myself up. lmao.

i think i just really hate the direction of his character post sa2. i think there's plenty of story to be wrought from shadow- i say i wish he stayed dead after sa2 but thats not 100% true. i think the amnesia arc they went with post sa2 was the dumbest fucking thing they could do with a character who we spent an entire game (sa2) figuring out his past in. like sa2 is so lore heavy that having the core character of the game become amnesiac was stupid i fucking hate it. and it doesnt even get resolved in sonic heroes we have to get shadow the hedgehog 2005 to get a better answer and if im honest even then its still immensely confusing on what, exactly, they're trying to do with shadow.

like imagine if they didnt go the route of amnesia. a shadow that has to fully reckon with the fact that he nearly ended the world. a shadow that has to immediately acknowledge the events of sa2, his grief, geralds actions, and where this leaves him. amnesia shadow jsut doesnt do shadow figuring out where he stands in regard to his past enough justice. idk i just with the amnesia thing literally never happened it was so stupid and i think it fucked up his character post sa2.

but other than that, i really do hate how he keeps getting pushed into things that he really shouldnt be pushed in. i think the sonic movies and sonic prime are the most egregorious examples. i really dont understand why sonic prime, who's purpose was to explore alternative dimensions, didn't focus on sonic and blaze. why was shadow a core part of this show. and the sonic movies skipping sa1 just to get to sa2 to have shadow in the universe to milk as much money as they can frustrates me so fucking much. why is shadow confirmed before amy. also shadow in the twitter take overs when hes not even in the fucking games??? like sonic frontiers and sonic colors... i'll admit i hate sega using him as a marketing ploy. shadow to me is a character that should be placed in the reserves- he's really only useful for big, world ending events. otherwise whats the point of having him around, especially since they don't want to be consistent in his characterization.

speaking of charaterization... im not sure how to phrase this but i think a lot of modern presentations of shadow, in fandom and through sega, really forget how sa2 presented shadow, and his relationship to sonic. i hate how shadow keeps getting casted as sonic's edgy doppleganger whos just picking fights for the sake of a fight. like if you want that metal sonic is right fucking there and always has a good reason to pick a fight with sonic. and i really hate how sonic & shadow are not always casted as equals. theres an underlying respect to their relationship that i think gets forgotten. shadow does respect sonic- he calls him the ultimate lifeform during the finalhazard battle- he acknowledges and respects sonics ability, tenacity, and simplicity. he respects sonic! and the two are equals! they're supposed to be foils of each other- of what letting your losses define you as. they're equals! they're two sides of the same coin! i don't know how to phrase this without going on an insane tangent i just feel like people don't entirely encompass what them being foils means.

anyway. idk. i don't like shadow post sa2 is the simplest answer to this lol.

Ok (sigh redthespian, I swear they're on Viv's bootlicking payroll) anyway I do agree that it was pretty hypocritical of Viv to at 1st say she doesn't care then to change her mind later but it was a good thing of her to backtrack and say minors shouldn't watch their stuff but it gives no right to the fandom or anyone to bully and harass minors that do watch (there has been MULTIPLE incidents of this happening in fandom) and Viv does nothing to address these incidents and yeah its not her job to police her fandom but when it involves minors who are so vulnerable on the internet as a grown up I expect that much from Viv to do because of how influential she is in her fandom, whatever she says goes.

Viv again is right on treating her with respect etc at the con and saying kids shouldn't watch but she's deflecting again with saying "its not our fault if they do watch", then why defend this pic it shouldn't have been posted in the 1st place.

Admit fault, this pic being posted by Brandon is bad taste he could've met with this minor fan at the con, be nice to her ect and then tell her she really shouldn't watch helluva boss (if she ignores thats fine) but its the grown up thing to do that in this situation and not post this pic, simple.

The problem in this situation is and why I hammered so much on it is that none of helluva boss creatives act like grown ups (Viv, Brandon now and Adam even). From what I've seen from Viv mostly is continuous deflection, not admitting fault in these situations, not stepping in when its serious situations (her fandom, big art accounts bullying/harassing minors) and not acting like a bloody grown up. Viv is 30 years old but acts like a child when it comes to these things, criticism etc. She's perceived by me to be in this weird state of mind where she thinks she doesn't have to take responsibility for minors watching her shows ect but it comes with the territory Viv. You can't prevent kids from watching helluva I get that but not stepping in when your fandom bullys them, when you see a minor in fandom/cons and say "hey you shouldn't watch helluva" or this incident now because it looks by Brandon posting this pic it sends the message that its ok for minors to be in fandom it goes against what Viv says of not encouraging kids to watch because if I was a kid and saw this pic I would think Viv and them is ok with minors in fandom. In all, the message perceived from a child and anyone seeing this pic is that they're ok with minors in fandom. This meet and greet could've been done without the pic being posted and none of this backlash would've happened.

Rant based on the atsv fandom. I promise I’m not seething. This is very dramatized and my mood will change the next day. Don’t take this seriously.

Edit: I was right, its been 5 minutes and the agony is over. I have found fun funny people.

(VERY minor spoilers. More under cut)

- I am soooo disappointed in the early fandom of spider-verse right now. Maybe its because Ive been hanging around Tiktok when I really shouldnt, because its MOSTLY them with the bad takes but WHY are they SO bad.

- Im just going to start with the controversy with Gwen. Because thats happening for some reason.

- All over tiktok people are treating her as irredeemable and undeserving of Miles, as if she hadn’t gone out of her way to see him even though she wasnt allowed to. Even though the writers gave her a conflict with her father that was supposed to pull the audiences heart strings.

- Its as if people can’t see characters as anything more than one-dimensional. I appreciated every character in spider-verse because they were all so multi-faceted with their own flaws, positives, and motives.

- It just irks me to see people put down Gwen simply because she was slightly stand-offish with Miles. She had so much going on and it made SENSE for her to not want to risk everything she was given. The gift of traveling dimensions, of being safe from her father and to make friends that understand.

- Branching from Gwen, MIGUEL. I love him, he’s great, his backstory is so unique and explains his motive and character perfectly. Again, he’s multi-faceted, and I appreciate that SO much.

- But why is every fanart on tiktok I see JUST him and how hot he is. I understand, hes hot, and thats fine! Its also great because it gives fans something to talk about other than spoilers. But its the ONLY thing I see. Gwen was practically the second main character other than Miles in this movie. We were introduced to her conflict and then her resolution.

- Why not talk about Peter B. and how he must be feeling with Miles in danger?

- Why is Miguels hotness talked and drawn more than that, more than the PLOT. On tiktok AND tumblr. And I can bet that if I check instagram it’d be the same.

- Secondly, the love triangle. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that there was relief at how there was no true love triangle. The spiderverse characters did so well in making romance a component but not the main focus. So why are some fans trying to FORCE a love triangle?

- Examples are: People hating on Gwen, saying she was playing with Mile’s heart by fooling around with Hobie.

- People saying Miles had 100 times more chemistry with Morgo/spider-byte than he ever did with Gwen.

- I love ships, im very big on the fact that people can ship whoever they like as long as its not incest or pedophilia. Im not even the biggest Miles x Gwen shipper. But putting down ANOTHER ship just doesnt sit right with me, especially since its false? The writers are amazing, and they DID amazing at giving Miles and Gwen cute subtle chemistry. All these ship wars just seem like another play at hating Gwen.

- Spiderverse is amazing, and I love that the first movie was a great hit. But it was praised for its story-telling, art, and worldbuilding. The second movie just, isn’t, and I wish it was. Of course, with show and movie fandoms expanding, theres gonna be toxicity introduced. Like this one person who was revulsed by the idea of Gwen being trans, even with her trans pin on her backpack, her protect trans kid flag, and her signature colors.

- Its expected, I just wish it wasn’t.

- Maybe im just on the wrong side of social media, maybe I should wait until I can wedge my way into a spider-verse sub-community fandom I wanna see. Or maybe I just have to wait until this all blows over and then the fandom will revert to character and plot loving. Who knows.

- Im usually not the type of person to be hung over something like this, and I truly don’t think this beginning view of the movie will stick. I promise I don’t hate when people have fun in fandoms.

- Thoughts just needed to be put down and perhaps heard. Soooo if you read all of this, congrats! You have been hit with my very temporary negativity. Don’t let it drag you down! Enjoy the good parts of the fandom as I try to wiggle into those sections!

TTG go makes jokes about Dick being an all suffering loser and it works (bc its usually self inflicted and played up in a lighthearted way), the harley quinn show tries and its too lame to watch :/ (theres nothing more cringey then showing someone experiencing something genuinely awful and telling the audience they should laugh at it)

Honestly, it's one of the top reasons why i dropped the hq show. I wanna try watching it again but s2 put me off so badly.

1) dont make yet another dc project thats supposed to be about someone else be about batman again!! Also a part of why i refuse to give the newest flash movie the time of day (that, and live action superhero movies tend to suck ass, and the lead actor is just downright awful)

2) nightwing shouldnt even be this prominent in a harley show, and hes just being mocked for some of the darkest parts of his history that were beyond his control? It makes him out to be whiney, but specifically bc hes traumatized. Serious things like flashbacks and panic attacks are very hard to make funny, and hqs failed intensely.

3) the deaging of most of the female characters. Its just insulting. A bit misogynistic. Introducing babs and dick as the same age and just meeting as college age adults, making babs batgirl when damian is robin instead of when dick was robin, the way they mixed up the ages make it impossible for steph to have ever been batgirl, erasing the possibility for her or cass to have any significant role, erasing oracle.

4) the bats are there for marketing. I refuse to believe anyone who gives half a shit about any of them wouldve made such a cluster fuck. It was cute and funny when they were used for one off gags in season one, like damian trying to make harley his nemesis. But the larger role they took after s1 is a god awful insult to all of them.

The problem isnt that the bats are there, its that theyre all poorly written and take time away from the actual main characters that i was watching the show for. Sorry for ranting, but its something that frustrates me ceaselessly.

very reassuring man, since he grew up with great care he knows how to give it as well, he is generally a great relationship guy and knows how to treat his s/o

you wont see her in saw 2004 ( i believe ) butshe was manioulated by john, and even in his final moments she cared about him, shes a vulnerable woman who latches onto people who treat her with the least bit of kindness or respect

HARD time expressing how she loves or cares for someone, she panics a lot

mainly stemmed from her childhood abuse & neglect, she has a difficult time processing her emotions and stress, making all situations hard to evaluate or stressful in general

she is very caring and loyal to those she trusts, being slightly clingy because if her fear of abandonment

she's surpassed her addiction, but will definitely have a long road to recovery, supporting her and judt being there, driving her to addiction centers throughout her time shows your dedication to her and she may be anxious at first, but warms up to you after a while

besides that, im sure as a child she experimented with so many phases and styles, she wanted to fit in and gain her parents love, schooling was difficult as well for her

im sure she had a few friends, maybe one or two ones that she spent a lot of time with, she was an outcast to begin with, most teachers didnt mind her, im sure she befriended one or two

her grades looked like B's & C+, shes fairly smart but due to her environment she was pushed to her potential

had a few girlfriends in her teen years, she grew into an identity of a 'bad' kid and that attracted some people, possibly forming a group

snuck out a lot, nobody cared when she did so it became a nightly occurrence

she was not ready for any relationships, they were long but toxic, she was vulnerable and needed space and therapy ( still does )

reaching adult years she outgrew her friends and relationships, turning to homelessness possibly after her parents kicking her out, and then messing with a bad group of adults

she definitely likes to shop in the mens and womens section, doesn't care what the clothes are as long as it fits and is warm

she loves when her sleeves are longer then her arms, likes to wrap herself in them

if you take her out for food, she doesnt care where, fastfood is lovely and so is a nice restaurant, shell thank you for the whole night

loves to play boardgames, and if she knew hot to play videogames that would be her favorite as well, anything to fill in the hole of her childhood with bonding time

man people who racebend characters of color are REALLY showing their asses in how they think we're all interchangable and see us as a checklist for "Getting A Good Grade In Woke :)" rather than just... acknowledgment of the existing natural diversity of planet earth and the different ways people make life of it.

its insensitive to reimagine disneys tiana as asian, not because asian people dont face racism or cant enjoy cooking or didnt exist in 1920s new orleans- but because tiana is the first and still only black disney princess and was written and designed as such. her race informs and deepens her writing and her struggles, her love for her dad and specifically wanting to validate a jim crow era black man's sacrifices for his family, her connection to him and her community through her cooking when they all struggle to keep food on the table. similarly mulan shouldnt be rebranded as african american, not because black women couldnt exist in china or never crossdressed to join the army or dont face misogyny- but because mulan is a folk hero of historical chinese legend and as mulan, specifically cannot be divorced from that background. (also, frankly? the early white princesses arent really as well written for the most part, and their culture of origin is virtually never taken into account aside from visuals in their development, if that).

thats what ticked me off so bad about the monster high reboot. nb frankie was so cool and an asian draculaura was so fun but then they just... took away the black girl? and by extension, her sisters and thus ALL the black girls and like, dude not cool? nothing wrong with her being latina but being afrolatina is a different experience than being african american. afrolatinas deserve rep but that doesnt mean they shouldve taken clawdeen from african american girls. then there was some back and forth as to where specifically draculaura's family is from, and lagoona's origins vary from source to source dolls vs movie vs tv too and you just really feel the lack of effort and cohesion in the writing rooms. it really is just all just numbers on a chart, quotas to be filled there.

even with shows like winx where its ambiguous at times and kind of a raceblind take at others, theres so little for ANY of us that redesigning without that in mind becomes poaching. why would you take when ive been given so precious little? why would you want to change this one gift from people like me that lets me know i'm seen and loved? sure, other people deserve to have that too but if they want to borrow then take those who have so much they wont even miss it?

Like it's so fucking weird to me!!! And GOD I wanted to say something about gen3 Clawdeen but I wasn't sure if I was "right" or if it was my place to say but exactly!! Being afrolatina is wonderful and they deserve representation too but it is still ultimately a different experience from being black american and they shouldn't have taken that away from black girls! I'm glad that mixed kids have her as rep now but they shouldn't have taken her away!! They very easily could've made a new character to fill that role instead!

AND YES to the winx point!! At the end of the day, it doesn't matter that some of the girls races or ethnicities are more ambiguous, they still have Canon races and people shouldn't be taking that away and giving it to someone else. That's not how representation works! Ever! Like if someone redesigned Aisha to be asian, that wouldn't make me happy or give me More representation. All that would be doing is taking away representation from black people! Same thing with Musa, Flora, Nabu, etc.

It also feels So fucking scummy when a white person's excuse is just that they Personally didn't see a character as their canonical race/ethnicity and that's why they changed it?? spierverse 2 spoilers. but also a long post diving into Villains in recent (animated) movies

i dont rly plan to make any super long posts about all of this movie bc theres just SO much to think abt and a lot of people are saying what i would say. but i have thought a lot about the villain, The Spot. mostly in relation to my last fave animated movie's villains- Puss in Boots 2

PIB got a lot compliments for its villain(s). You had Goldilocks who was an antag but a character you can see some reason to sympathize with, but she isnt the big bad. You have Death who is a conflict to hinder Puss' progress, and then you Jack Horner who is a villain that you have no reason to feel bad for, as its shown many times how he is just a privileged ass. It was a movie that finally really had a bad villain you werent gonna see redeemed, and had no reason to see redeemed. Goldilocks was an antag as she was Puss' enemy but we had no reason to hate her, and her siding with them eventually made sense. Death's conclusion with Puss was less so any end for the Villain's arc but for a personal Arc Puss was facing that drove the main plot.

Many people saw this movie and were pointing out how bad Disney/Pixar's movies have been with villains. I cant even think of any villain in their last movies, theyre all so samey. and a lot are trying to be the same "oh well now you can feel a little bad for them because we showed some sad backstory!". its nice to have some times where theres a complicated grey antagonist that explores the divide in interests and pushes boundaries but thats not what Disney is doing.

Often times, Superhero movies have cut and dried villains. Not bad- its just that there is a formula. You have a guy with a name and a gimmick and they bad, they must be defeated. Even in comics where things get expanded on for backstories, sometimes with troubled pasts etc, it still doesnt change it? They don't get reformed and stop being the villain.

So lets look at the first Spiderverse before 2. Kingpin was the first (major) villain (along with some on the side) and they were established villains. The thing thats important with Kingpin is that while we were given information about why he is doing what hes doing, no one ever finds it as "okay". no one thinks they should just deal with it by fixing him or feeling bad for him, because Kingpin wouldnt take that. He IS awful, hes selfish and terrible. and Nothing he does outside of those personal feelings actually reflects that. Nothing else he normally does as a criminal is related to his family that he lost. These kinds of superhero villains are often already criminals with an intense violent history, and theyll keep being a criminal.

Going to Spiderverse 2, we get a villain thats a bit different, The Spot. Its interesting because he starts goofy- he actually is trying to be a criminal too actually. He decides because of his circumstances, he needs to rob and do things like that and its makes sense, he has no where to go. But hes so confident and normal about it, cocky etc, that you dont feel bad for him. hes not desperate or sad or begging with the weight of his sad backstory. Hes annoying, goofy, and no ones will take him as a serious criminal at first. And then he starts to explain more seriously what happened. And it STILL doesnt come across like a "woe is me" kind of story. He *still* annoying and cocky. he wants to be bad. he wants to destroy everything. Does it suck what happened to him? Yeah. Does it suck that it ruined his life?" of course. Do you want to redeem him? i mean no, i wouldnt. hes still a jerk. and thats the key thing.

you can have a villain who is relatable and grey but its not The Spot. Its not Kingpin. They had some kind of "tragedy" but they arent ever going to be good and you shouldnt use them as aan example and soften them up to be easily digested and garner sympathy with. thats just not the kind of story you can have all the time. you NEED to remind people, mostly kids, who the bad guys are. and the samey bland villains of disney havent stuck in my heads at all in recent years. its not to say their movies were all bad- i liked a lot of them (Encanto, Turning Red). But i can hardly recall any clear "villain" plot lines. Theres a time and place for those vague instances, and many times they just dont work because it makes the whole story so vague and directionless. It makes it hard to remember the key points when its not strong enough from its other elements.

I just feel like we are losing classic villains because people for some reason started to think it was boring and we needed more "nuance" but this "nuance" isnt.....that. its bland written media by big studios that cant actually have morally grey characters because it would actually be too sensitive for people.

and the thing is like yes absolutely media holds an impact and media has inherent perspectives in it and it sends messages and it can have societal infleunces. there is obviously a reason as well as to why the cia and several others push for propaganda through movies and films - for one example using the media to glorify the cia, or the idea of the rogue cop, or to further war on terrorism narratives etc. im not denying that. its also like maybe the population of adults shouldnt be so stupid as to gobble anything and everything up uncritically and maybe itd be less of an issue if ppl were less infleunced?

but that just reminded me, when the new game of thrones came out a lot of radical feminists were against it because they said its showing on incest was glorifying and promoting incest. and listen,,, theres good critiques to be made of the got and hotd shows (glorification of sexual abuse and violence among others, which isnt done in the books, and also which hotd did much less ) but also like......... with the incest thing i rly dont agree. i dont agree that hotd served to normalize incest, to show it as a good thing, or to glorify it, i really dont. just because you show something = condoning it. and sorry but at times the point of art and media is to explore the more uncomfortable and fucked up sides of human nature. the fandom reaction is one thing and people shipping a toxic relationship is one thing. but in hotd the incest is a) shown because it was indeed very common in the real world historical times the show is based upon b)shown because game of thrones itself is very much an exploiration of all the fucked up things ppl do c) definetely not portrayed as a good thing or a thing to be done. viserys and emma being cousins and coming from a line of incest is partially what leads to emma having so many miscarriages and pregnancy issues and dying. the targaryans idea of blood purity and incest is what leads to several of them going crazy. the relationship between rhaenyra and daemon is interesting bc of their dynamic and characters but it is shown from the very beggining to be toxic, grooming, abusive, and deeply fucked up, while also showing the nature of many fucked up incestuous relationships, which is that they care abt each other but also they dont and they love each other but also its very toxic and harmful and not any sort of normal form of love and care. like their dynamic is interesting bc they reflect parts of each other but the show definetely doesnt glorify it or say "hey, incest is good!!" it just. doesnt. it just doesnt.

also like,,,,,,,, someone wont watch hotd and then suddenly decide that incest or grooming is okay. thats not how it works. if they were gonna do it they were gonna do it regardless of a show

also......... that show also shows child marriage. and i think we can all agree it didnt glorify child marriage and in fact showed how insane and gross it was for a 40 year old man to be proposed to marry a 12 year old and then a 15 year old. just bc. u show something doesnt = condoning

I was watching a video on how the music in Cats the movie is also terrible but before the guy in the video got into that he started explaining the plot to Cats and I didnt know a thing about it (other than the supposed orgy) but when he got into the meaning of Memory?!?!?! I cried real tears, I felt like Rodrick when he started crying in the theatre (also at Memory) idk the name of the woman that sang it for the stage movie but me and her are fighting because she had no right making me cry at 'touch me, its so easy to leave me' wtf lady, I'm trying to bake some cookies here

Reasons why the ROTTMNT Movie got Delayed

(Disclaimer: THIS IS A SHITPOST and I came up with everything off the top of my head to be funny. Dont ask for sources because there are none. Feel free to reblog this and add more reason on though)

- The cast overslept and was late every day.

- They tried to confirm Leo as gay, Nick threw a hissy fit, and now they gotta edit it out

- Angry anti-rise tmnt fans have barricaded the animators in the production room and stole the only copy they have of the finished movie

- They decided to make it a musical at the last second.

- The original version included a Hypno x Warren wedding, Nick threw a hissy fit, and now they gotta edit it out

- Another version of the turtles accidentally messed with portals again and stole the Rise Turtles right from the movie set. The producers are working day and night trying to get them back

- The director got sidetracked with another fandom and sadly annouced they're putting the project on hiatus. They almost just released it as it was with a note that they'll "probably come back to it one day when [they're] interested in the show again" note at the end, but an intern convinced them not to

- They finished the film but at the end, realized they forgot to put Mikey in. They are quickly fixing this.

- They tried to confirm Donnie as NB and/or ace, Nick threw a hissy fit, and now they gotta edit it out

- The writers paused in making it to rewatch a few episodes for inspiration and accidentally lost track of time and now are binging every single piece of TMNT content in existence. The good news is that they only have IDW and Bayverse left so it shouldn't be too much longer now.

- Leo used his portals to hijack the production studio and demand they dont throw him through a window. It worked and they edited it out. However, then Splinter agreed that they shouldnt throw him through a window and Leo's rebellious side took over. He is now demanding they put the scene back in.

- One of their interns turned out to be a Kraang in disguise and thats kind of a big problem

- Nick realized that if they release the movie and it does well, they'll lose a bet they had with another studio because they were convinced it would fail. They see the fanbsse and are getting nervous because they dont want to owe Disney the $10.

- They tried to confirm Sunita and April as a wlw couple, Nick threw a hissy fit, and now they gotta edit it out

- They think its kinda funny watching us all get frustrated

- Its a secret, but they actually want this to be a live action show. However, they want it to be very realistic and so are trying to mutate four turtles and train them to be actors. Sadly, they're stuck on the "mutating" part since thats kind of difficult in real life

- Mrs Cuddles is haunting the studio

- They tried to add Bebop and Rocksteady in, made them gay, Nick threw a hissy fit, and now they gotta edit it out

- Big Mama kidnapped the cast and crew and is currently making them fight in the Battle Nexus

so I just watched “In the Heights”

here are some positive and negative thoughts:

is it odd that within the first music number the very first thing that caught my eye is that they have dancers of different body types? for real that was the very first thing that cught my eye as I already know the song, so details like that were more important in my mind

speaking of odd, the accents in this movie. Even when I watch a film that happens to have Latino representation it still called out my atention a lot to hear so many Caribbean accents. So often latino artists either play them down or try too hard to sound Mexican and on this one that Caribbean accents are what really caught my atention and I don’t know how many people will point that out.

not to compliment him too much but this is the best LMM has ever sung tbh. Who knew that to make that happen you had to give him 3 songs instead of 30.

Corey Hawkins as Benny is probably the best casting decision in the whole film, I know that he has done other stuff, but a million doors better open for this guy after this ok I had no idea he could sing and dance and command the screen this much.

Daniela and Carla as an offical couple, YAS QUEENS!!! just what we needed for Pride Month even if they are secondary characters, they just always act like a couple.

Cameos from famous latinos like Mark Anthony and mentions of great artists like Chita Rivera, Rita Moreno and Celia Cruz. Finally some education on screen.

Olga Merediz singing “Paciencia y Fe” made me cry so hard that my mom came to see if I was ok, I demand an Oscar nom for her!!!! Olga owns that role so hard ok she originated it on Broadway, played Abuela for 3 years, was in the OBS cast recording, and is still killing it at it 12 years alter

very good cinematography which is Jon Chu’s strong suit no matter what

overall cast does a really solid job

now for the bad under a read more cause it got LONG and spoilery

They shouldnt have added more characters. Mark Anthony makes a cameo, as in literal 1 minute cameo and the reason why becomes an important plot point later on ok, he adds more to the story in one minute than plenty other characters with less time do. Example:

there was no reason to add Cuca, there just wasn’t. Other than giving Dasha Polanco (queen) a paycheck there was nothing for her character to do. She was added to the movie ok the role wasn’t in the play, and thus there is nothing for her to do

bit of a spoiler but all she does is twerk from time to time and follow around Daniela and Carla like a third wheel. If it was a 3 way polyam relationship then that would at least be something but nah, she just flirts with Usnavi (who she knows likes someone else) and shakes her ass, thats it

not enough Pete!!!! he was such a cool character in the play but in the movie he almost does not exist and you don’t get to see the Abuela Claudia’s portrait ok it feels like a waste

they cut out Priscilla!!! why? the fact that both of Nina’s parents want to support her is great and we have enough orphans in the movie already, it makes that fact that Nina’s dad is not a perfect man less impactful and instead make so that everything he does in the movie is seen as perfect, Priscilla putting him in his place was a great scene and we don’t get it

the couples have no chemistry. There I said it. I am ok with the actors they chose but I was rotting for those couples a lot less than in the play.

I expected more out of Blackout ok that song is such a tense and scary moment and here it feels like its played for laughs ok stuff that really hits in the play feels watered down because it is being made into a joke.

This sounds mean but Nina’s voice in the og recording is way stronger than Leslie Grace’s and I knwo that the comparison will be seen as unfair but I have to say it.

to be even meaner, I’m sorry, but Anthony Ramos is a way less emotional Usnavi to me and the reason is that he doesn’t even need the winning ticket to move back to DR, he just gets the check inmediately at the begining of the story so I’m like “ok why bother staying is the other option is always fucking open”.

now for my biggest gripe with the movie: Vanessa’s clothing. Not what she wears but what she designs. Why cleaning rags? just why?

the movie complains and shows the issues with gentrification only for Vanessa to take cleaning rags, from Pete’s job, and turn them into gentrified clothing. I know that the movie was shot 2 years ago but already the clothes she desings look a. out of fashion and b. annoying.

The complain that rich people will buy pants and shirts that are already broken and stained but look down on poor people who broke and stained their clothes while doing actual work has been around for a while, so that pissed me off. You can’t make a movie against gentrification and then gentrify clothes and call it your leading lady being “creative” and “great”.

The fact that no one in the production throught of that tells you that by now they are more “Hollywood” than “from the block” no matter how much they say they are not. Also, remember my Blackout complain? yeah its cause the reason it isn’t tense anymore is that movie brings up over and over again how a tragedy can happen and latinos will just dance and sing like they dont care.

Characters go from being worried about their safety and their businesses that they need to survive to breakdancing to fire works, why? why do you do it like that? why can’t you show latinos as people with troubles trying to fix them through hard work and instead no one was worried about the blackout until Abuela Claudia died ok they were having a bingo party instead of worrying about their livehood and the safety of their homes.

after “Paciencia y Fe” the movie was pretty much not doing it for me anymore and it is these “small details” that bothered me and took me out of it. Yeah those last 40 min of the movie made me rant this hard so I don’t know if I recommend it or not ok I can’t recommend 2/3 of a movie and tell you to just not finish it. No one will care about this much ranting so whatever, up to you.

I'm going to get some shit for this...

mainly because I've talked so much shit about how awful the Synderverse is/was/i dont know, im pretty sure its over with anyways...

BUT YEAH!

Hack Zack Snyder was so close to making a good Superman movie. i mean so fucking close. i actually really enjoyed the movie up till he got the suit, because after that it just becomes a Michael Bay-esq brawlathon. sure, the weird stuff with Papa Kent dying in a tornado was dumb as hell but all the other stuff was good in that first half.

the stuff on Krypton was actually pretty interesting. seeing Clark growing into his powers and how much of a burden they were on a child and family who doesnt know what to do was a really interesting take. plus some critiques on why he shouldnt be using his powers vs using them was actually a decent element on why he becomes a superhero. then theres the tornado... but anyways.

its just when he gets that fucking suit. all character development is gone. Russell Crowe daddy is like "look boy, youre going to be great. super even. so why dont you go be the man i made you to be. a SUPERMAN" and then it just turns into action porn. and not even good action porn. this is that cheap Cinemax porn that just showed boobs and maybe a butt here and there, but never any male nudity. which was weird. it always just showed things to the side so you saw boobs and hints of groins. i dont miss tv porn at all.

i think im losing my point here.

ugh. it was just so close to a good a Superman movie. it was never going to be the Richard Donner Superman, and it shouldnt have been. like you know the saying "its about the journey, not the destination" and thats what a good origin movie should be about. its why people love Smallville so much. well that and the music, sooooooomeboooooooody saaaaaaaaaaave meeeeeeeeeee🎶

Hack Zack Snyder was just so fucking close... so god damn close. i think that pisses me off more than Clark killing Zod, or the mass destruction, or just how fast everything moves in the second half. and i think this is what really killed the whole Snyderverse before it even began. the movie just dropped the ball so hard that there should have been a sequel to fix or expand on things before any other movie to even start fleshing out the universe.

i could go on and on about this movie, like the crazy weird Jesus allegories Hack Zack Snyder tried to pull off but i wanted to talk more about it as a whole. this movie is rife with bad stuff that smarter people than me have pointed out and talked about. so i wanted to do something different and talk about the actual good potential. because its there. it really is. it just twisted its ankle as soon as it jumped.
