At the end of the day my favorite genre of fiction is campy fantasy cheese with a lot of heart. Give me more Willows, Princess Brides, Labyrinths, and things along that line. But make them infinitely gayer.
TBH I eventually want to make my own collection of retold faerie tales, using all my personal faves. But every time I get an idea for one, my brain slaps it aside by reminding me just how nasty people get toward retold faerie tales for no goddamn reason. IDK how much people outside the author world pay attention, but writer community spaces were outright hostile to faerie tale retellings for years, calling them "boring" and "lazy" and "done to death." People still act like jerks about them and act like they're not worth playing with.
I know we're all tired of Disney remaking animated classics just to extend copyright and rake in nostalgia bucks, but when I was in school, one of my English teachers had us do an entire project comparing and contrasting different versions of Cinderella. We had to read five different Cinderella stories to see what we could learn from looking at what the different authors chose to emphasize in their version. Then we had to write our own Cinderella, with the conscious thought of what topic we wanted to look at through the lens of "poor girl is abused by her family and sneaks out to a party."
Classic faerie tales are like a "draw this in your style" but for authors, and I LOVE THAT SHIT SO MUCH.

Back to Where We Started
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Summary: After the blip, you fell off the grid. One random day Bucky Barnes shows up at your door and you two have a lot more than just aliens to talk about.
Warnings: lonely reader, talks about the blip in general, kissing, Bucky calling you sweetheart, a little too much dialogue, idk you might hate it you might like it. Angst??
A/N: howdy! I’m too lazy to proofread so be warned.
After the battle against Thanos, you kinda fell off the grid. You didn't talk to Bucky or Sam, nobody. Trying to understand being blipped and how you jumped into a battle you had just lost, it took a tole mentally.
You sat in your apartment floor, sorting though five years worth of mail that was packed in a large sack. You'd smile at the few birthday cards or Christmas cards. Then you'd cry after seeing cards and letters that made you remember all the time you missed.
You were about half way through the mess when a loud knock appeared at your door. "Give me a minute," you called struggling to step over the many empty envelopes.
You didn't care to peek through the peephole, thinking it was some religious order, you unlocked the door and swung it open.
"Bucky," you said in complete shock.
He looked good and more put together than he had ever appeared. His chestnut brown hair was short and he wore a nice black coat that fit like a good jacket should. His eyes were full of worry like a thousand thoughts were filling his brain the moment he laid eyes on you.
You forgot how nice it was too see a familiar face. You and Bucky had always been close. At one point you thought of him as your best friend, and crush. Right on the battle, you told him you loved him. You really did love him. You still do.
So the minute you saw him, all you could do was embrace him. Your arms wrapped around him and his quickly did the same. Before you could notice, a few tears had fallen on his jacket from your cheeks.
Finally you pulled away simultaneously wiping the tears from your cheeks. "Sorry, I'm just really happy to see you James."
"No ones heard from you, I just needed to know you were alive. I was really worried about you."
"I know, I know, I'm sorry. Why don't you come in," you motioned. "Don't mind the pile of mail."
"I had some too. Luckily it all went to the compound so Steve took care of it."
"You cut your hair," you mumbled awkwardly as he stepped over your pile of mail.
"I did. I remembered how much you begged me to cut it, so I just went for it."
"To be clear, I was right,” you smirked while feeling your cheeks getting red by the second. “It really frames your face perfectly."
"So how's the team?” You leaned against your kitchen countertop as you asked. “Did Steve take the stones back?"
Bucky's face immediately dropped. "Steve he dropped off the stones and then um.. he stayed in the past. He's 102 now. Wrinkles and all."
"Oh." The lull of silence filled the room soon followed by a "yea," by Bucky.
"Well, how are you? Are you still at the compound."
"I moved back to Brooklynn, and under my pardon I'm seeing a therapist."
"Is she a good therapist?"
One hum out of Bucky and a uncertain facial expression gave you all the answer you needed.
"What happened Y/N?"
"After the battle, I was just done. I was trying to piece together the blip and then we won a battle we had just lost. I just fell off the grid and went back to the one place I knew and that was here. Luckily it hadn't been touched, but I know that's not the case for many people."
"You could've called me, you could've called any of us."
"Everyone is going through the same thing Buck, why bother someone if the problem isn't that special."
"Sweetheart, are you saying you're not special?"
Your eyes glanced up and he could see the tears starting to line them. He took your shaky hands in his to get a better look at you and immediately wrapped his arms around you and pulled you closer.
"You are nothing but special Y/N. Don't ever feel you're not worthy of help," Bucky's chest buzzed while he spoke while the top of your head stayed tucked under his chin.
"What happened to us Buck?" Sometime after you mumbled your question into his chest, Bucky pulled away but still left his hands resting on your back.
"Loaded question there," he looked down at you with his usual comedic smile. Although, it faded quickly when he saw the serious expression written in your face.
"Sorry, kind of coping with humor at the moment," just as he went to his cheesy self, he was back to the awkward Bucky you knew all too well. "Do you remember the moments right before we all, ya know, dusted?"
"Like it was yesterday," you answered quietly. It broke Bucky's heart as you stared at your hands shyly.
Everyone watched in terror as Sam dusted into a grey flaky material. You ran up to Bucky hoping he wouldn't succumb the same future.
"Bucky, I need to tell you something."
"Hm?" He asked in shock
"I love you," you said trying not to cry, but soon his hand started turning to flakes like Sam
"Y/N," he muttered before his body fell to the ground turning to dust.
What felt like a few seconds later, you could see your hands turning dusty and all you saw was white.
Bucky’s hand cupped your face lightly, taking you out of your daydream state. His eyes were soft as he looked at you, like he could read every thought that was going through your brain.
"Y/N," he said in an almost whisper. His thumb now tracing back and forth lightly against your cheek.
"I love you too. I always have."
A warm smile spread to your face as he said the words you had hoped to hear all that time ago. All you wanted to do in that moment was take a photograph of Bucky’s grin as looked down at you.
“Can I kiss you now?” His tone was close to an excited high schooler. All you did was nod and there was little time before your lips met in a soft sweet kiss. Bucky’s arms pulled your closer by your waist as your hands snaked up towards his shoulders.
"I missed you Buck,” you muttered in between kisses.
Bucky stopped for a second to look you right in your eyes and whispered, "I missed you too sweetheart,” before kissing you once more.

HI idk when this was made but this is a godsend, especially considering the new dbd comic out. me, a rabid legion (frank) fan……. wonders
killers when they get to share in the campfire with you? just you and them sitting by the survivors campfire and taking in the area thats usually reserved for survivors
Aww, that's cute. I have to get ahold of those comics! I decided to make it a campfire party with the Legion.
Hanging out with them at the campfire.
Legion members: Frank, Julie, Joey, Susie
Frank
He's the one bringing the party!
And by that I mean the booze.
Yeah, lots of it.
"Hey guys, watch me do a back flip."
Literally the life of the party.
He does kind of try to show off.
He wants you to see how cool he is.
It might not always be safe.
"Five bucks says I can jump over the fire."
There is no money in the realm.
He's kind of drunk.
He gets drunk really fast.
He's the drunk who does really stupid shit.
Then picks a fight with the largest person there.
Then is their best friend.
Has no idea what happened the night before.
But he has a ton of bruises.
He's just glad he got to have fun with you and the others.
Julie
She's bringing booze too.
Except she brings more exotic things.
Special things she can only get from doing really well in trials.
Frank likes cheap beer.
Julie likes her fancy champagne.
All the things you would find at a fancy party.
But she drinks it right out of the bottle so...
Kind of defeats the purpose.
But look at her expensive taste.
Look how mature she is.
She really wants to impress you.
Liquid courage.
She's a real flirt.
She leans on you.
Arm around your shoulder.
Cheesy pick up lines.
The works.
But you're worth it.
Joey
Weed.
Joey is bringing weed.
He's a chill guy.
Sure, he'll have a drink.
But he'd rather just smoke some weed and chill.
"Wanna take a hit?"
If you do, they be aware.
He has the strongest stuff.
If not, no problem.
He won't judge you for it.
But he still wants you to have a good time.
Relax a little.
No one's here to kill anyone.
We're just chilling.
He's the one who will lay on the floor, just vibing.
He'll lean you on his chest.
Start talking about the most random things.
"Do you think butterflies know they only live a month?"
He's trying to be philosophical and impress you.
He sounds really stupid.
But he's trying so hard.
It's almost comical.
He just wants to seem cool in front of you.
Is that such a bad thing?
Susie
"Guys! I brought snacks!"
She brought snacks.
Not just a bag of chips.
All the snacks.
Candy bars?
Got up.
Marshmallows?
Check.
Sticks for making s'mores?
All ready.
Hell, she even has hot dogs to roast over the fire.
And every condiment you could ever want.
Where did she get all this?
And how did she store it in such a small bag?
The only thing she doesn't have is healthy foods.
She's got a bad sweet tooth.
But, who can really judge her.
Call it childish, but several of the other killers and survivors are partaking in her little feast too.
She's going to show you all the crazy combinations she's made.
"Ever had worms in dirt?"
She'll show you.
Pudding, Oreos, gummy worms.
She'll make you anything you want.
She just loves sweets.
That's why she loves you so much.

Have you seen that YouTube video where some guy reads every Halo novel back to back and then reviews them? If so what did you think
The Brian David Gilbert one? Oh yeah, all my friends showed me it when it came out. (It was honestly kind of cute seeing how many people thought of me immediately.)
Rewatching it to refresh myself because it's been a couple years and a full-novel reread for me since the last time...
youtube
High fiving BDG because the Master Chief parts of The Flood were definitely the most boring parts.
He didn't have anything to say about First Strike which I think is a shame because I think it's better than The Fall of Reach and actually has A Theme I Find Interesting.
Rightful recognition of Contact Harvest as pretty damn good.
Rightful recognition of the Forerunner Trilogy as dense oldschool-style SF with deep worldbuilding. (Also the San'Shyuum thing.)
I disagree with him about, and have significant problems with, Kilo Five. He is correct that Kilo Five actually delves into some of the dark places in Halo in a way it really needed, and I would even say that its writing is extremely engaging by Halo novel standards. However, while he does notice the obvious parallels between what ONI is doing post-war and the kind of shit the CIA has pulled again and again irl, I think he misses some of the subtext I see where it feels like it justifies some shit a liiiiittle too much if you know the author's irl politics re: the military. He also doesn't seem to notice the character assassinations (particularly of Catherine Halsey) that I and a lot of other fans see/object to in those books. I kind of gaze into the middle distance with a haunted expression at the suggestion that these are the ones to read if you don't touch any of the others just because they are, ironically, so heavy-handed and feel like they treat certain kinds of evil as inevitable in a way that actually feels way worse to me than the excuse plot offered by the earlier/lighter Halo novels. (But idk, that's me? Nobody is committing a crime if they disagree with my frenzied insane person red string diagrams about Kilo Five.)
I'd swap Pariah for Dirt in the Evolutions anthology if it were me, but I think these are solid standouts.
Tumblr media
Broken Circle is neat but really nonessential he's not wrong.
A one-sentence review of New Blood is probably not enough space to get into how fucked up the Spartan-IV program is, but yeah. New Blood is fun if you don't find Buck's first person narration annoying. (It comes and goes for me in that one.)
Tumblr media
BDG you're an absolute sweetheart, I think Hunters in the Dark is kind of goofy in a way I cannot in good conscience ignore if I'm gonna review it. But it really really is so much fun and I love that one a lot anyway. The "it's like Halo 3... 2" observation is solid.
High fiving him again because I also found Last Light disappointing. And it is also a me problem.
Fractures!
Tumblr media
Hell yeah these are all good pulls from Fractures, I would say Shadow of Intent is the pick of the litter in that anthology for me. Interesting that as a Kilo Five enjoyer he didn't single out Rossbach's World, which is the last we've heard about Osman and Black Box. (Also, that one is good.) I think Oasis is worth an honorable mention because I'm an Envoy stan, and the Forerunner stories are interesting but I wouldn't go for them if you don't already have a healthy interest in the trilogy.
This tangent is so fucking funny now that we know more things:
Tumblr media
Oh BDG, oh buddy, it's really not for the people like you and me huh. (Disclaimer: I have no idea if BDG likes the Halo tv show or not and I have no desire to dig up evidence about it.)
Also, while you're here, this is the bloodgulchblog origin story:
Tumblr media
Smoke and Shadow is fun so it's a little sad that when he ends that sentence with "whatever," I can't actually say he's wrong to. (Sorry Rion your part of the lore just.... hasn't... touched anything that touches anything else anymore.)
ENVOY IS GOOD AND EVERYONE SHOULD CARE ABOUT IT okay okay I'm cool I'm normal, anyway. Envoy is the Halo novel that restored my faith in reading Halo novels and reminded me that authors can care and know how to do nuanced, interesting themes in this space. It's great. Everyone in this book has war refugee trauma (except the Spartans which have Spartan trauma) and that's incredible to me. Please care about Envoy if you have spare room in your heart for Halo side characters.
I am cheered to see someone indifferent to the Veta Lopis stories, but I still feel petty for feeling it.
I don't have a lot to say about Legacy of Onyx here but it's always so fun seeing someone else suffer and care.
Bad Blood, the Blood is Bad now is a fun joke but lol yeah. It does have this very vital moment where Chief and Arbiter talk, though. For the first and only time in years.
PROPS FOR NOTICING THE YA NOVELS they're actually pretty nice.
"The Master Chief is the protagonist and boy does he shoot some people" is most of how I feel about Silent Storm and Oblivion too, I know they have their fans but Troy Denning's Chief books don't do much for me personally.
Renegades hadn't had its followup Point of Light yet but yeah, Spark stuff is interesting.
I had to remember that oh yeah, there are multiple books now that didn't exist when this was made. I wonder if he read them?
OKAY I THINK THAT'S ALL I HAD TO SAY as always if y'all want specific book opinions, I might have a tag for them. Or just yell in my ask box, I'm sure I can scrounge up some thoughts.

The lengths I went through to watch last night's episode were so worth it. I'm currently in Japan so not only is there a time difference, there's also no wifi where I am. So everything is being run through data...which is slow as shit. I had dinner reservations scheduled for the same time the episode was dropping on Hulu so I told myself I'd just wait until after. This was preceded by a very reasonable spiral from a spoiler of Tommy and Buck. So not only did I have to wait, I had to wait knowing what I knew. Only to get back after dinner and the Internet won't load on my laptop and it is loading extremely slowly on my phone. Like buffering every two seconds slow. So I decide to log in to Hulu on the TV in our room. But we're in Japan so of course there's no access to American shows. (Truly idk how you international fans do this regularly cause this has been a rough twelve hours). So I try to let it buffer on my phone while I take a shower and get ready for bed. I get back and it's still not loading fully so now it buffers every minute. So I decide to let it buffer some more and promptly fall asleep. I woke up at 5am to see that it had loaded a little more but then the app closed. So it wasn't until about 6:30am that I finally got it to run with me pausing every five minutes. But I would happily go through that hell again if it means I get to experience the euphoria I got watching that last scene. Tim Minear, thank you. OLIVER STARK! THANK YOU! I can't believe I'm saying this but thanks abc. To know that a show and character you love so deeply is not only in good hands but is getting the dedication they deserve with something so precious. I've basically been crying all morning.

I haven't watched 7x01 yet, just a couple of eddie scenes, but yeah, the car accident scene with buck and eddie talking about Chris dating felt weird to me. Very "telling not showing" and rebranding buck as a "reformed playboy", which seems like such a retconning of his self-diagnosed sex addiction and self-worth issues and abandonment issues etc. Are we just meant to believe that's how Eddie sees it? Or buck and eddie have never had an honest vulnerable conversation about that part of buck's history? Or that's how the new audience is meant to see buck's past? Idk. The scene also felt very platonic bro pals vibes somehow. Based on the cast interviews as well, it seems like this season will double down on/rebuild buddie's friendship, which I'm ok with, just rip to everyone getting hyped for canon buddie...
I don’t think it’s how Eddie sees Buck, which is why I thought the line was so weird. Nothing about Eddie for the past five seasons made it seem like he thinks of Buck that way, besides maybe small jokes that were teasing and not cruel.
I just think it was to really drive home that platonic bro-pals thing. I’m a massive buddie shipper, but I do think that they’re working to rebuild the friendship and make sure the audience knows that they’re both manly guys who have feelings and love for each other, even if that love is platonic.

I have kind of a dark request? It's a modern setting but imagine everyone from like '88-'89 and Kirk and Lars seem like regular dudes (and they were roommates 👀) but they actually run a dark web streaming service where they torture people to death on Livestream at night and they abduct Dave (idk how they go about doing it maybe he's a prostitute or maybe they lure him there with drugs) and they use him for their Livestream BUT they see that this particular Livestream including him is getting much more views and money (because he's so pretty duh) so they decide not to kill him right away and keep him alive to use him for longer BUT they don't realize that James actually knows Dave so after like a week James starts complaining that he hasn't seen his 'friend' (👀) in like a week and he's worried and he shows them a picture of Dave and they're like 'Oh Shit' so now they have to decide if they kill Dave or let him go. This may be too much for a one shot request lmao. I just thought it was an interesting concept but I'm too busy to write it myself and also not as talented as you!
So I know this wasn’t next on my list to write but I couldn’t resist any longer! I just love this idea hahah. Thank you for the ask! I hope you don’t mind that I’m making it into a chaptered fic ❤️
PLEASE READ THE TWs!!!
𝐃𝐢𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 - 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝟏
Pairings: Kirk/Lars
Tw: torture, murder, blood, gore, violence, kidnapping, drugging
You can also read it here
“Please.”
It’s pleaded, barely there, blood bubbling between dry lips.
Kirk just smirks, digging the knife in deeper as he sinks it into the man’s side, hearing him cry out and writhe slightly in his restraints.
The boy doesn’t really have much strength left, not with how long Lars and Kirk have been playing with him.
Lars tuts, yanking the guy’s head back so that their eyes meet.
Kirk pulls the knife out, wiping it clean on his jeans before looking back at the clock.
They’ve been at this for five hours now, and he knows it’s probably time to call it quits.
He nods at Lars, who smiles, scratching his fingernails into the guy’s cheek.
“You’ve done so well,” Lars murmurs, though still loud enough for the camera in the corner to hear.
The guy shakes, flinching under Lars’s touch.
Kirk brings the knife up, holding it against the man’s throat.
Big, doe eyes plead with him, telling him to just let him go, but Kirk won’t. This guy’s worth too much to let go of now.
But still, Kirk hesitates. He can’t help but let himself get lost in the guy’s dark blue eyes, thinking of what this guy will be leaving behind. Maybe he had a family, maybe he’s got friends looking for him. Normally these things don’t bother Kirk, but something about this kid has him halting.
He hears Lars huff before the knife is pried from his hands, and he watches on as Lars plunges the knife into the centre of the guy’s neck.
The man splutters, bucking against the restraints, a thick gurgling noise pushed from his throat as blood starts to gush down his front. Lars leaves the knife in, and Kirk knows well enough that it’s probably because it’ll get them more money.
Lars bends, sticks his fingers in the pooling blood before gripping the man’s chin in his slick fingers. The guy continues to gargle, frothy, pink spit foaming from his mouth as arteries spurt, skin making a hissing noise. It goes on for longer than Kirk thought it would, but eventually the guy goes limp, head hanging backwards, the but of the knife still jutting out from his neck.
Lars is still holding the guy’s face, smearing blood over his cheeks, pries his slack jaw open, just to stick his fist in, see how far it will go. When Lars pulls his hand back out there’s blood up to his elbow and there’s tendrils of veins and sinew in between his fingers.
Kirk pulls the knife out just to hear that sickening squelching sound, the inside of the guy’s throat spilling out over pale skin, the structure of his neck buckling, slanting inwards.
Lars lets go of the man’s face, letting it whip backwards, mouth still wide open, before giving Kirk a brief smile, walking over to the camera to finish the stream.
Kirk wipes the knife on his jeans again, kicks at the body in the chair just to watch it jostle lifelessly.
“Woah dude, that was awesome,” Lars exclaims, hovering by the computer, blood splashed across his cheek.
“How much did we make?” Kirk asks, tossing the knife to the floor, fingers sticky.
“5 grand,” Lars says, triumphant, raising back up. “That’s two in a row now above 3.”
Kirk laughs, moving to pull Lars against him, their chests sticking together with drying blood.
Lars smiles, cupping his cheek with a bloodied hand before pulling Kirk into a kiss. It’s rough and brutal, but Kirk practically turns into goo in Lars’s grip, the metallic taste almost heaven on his lips.
“Did you get his name?” Lars says when he pulls away, breathless, tucking a piece of hair behind Kirk’s ear.
Kirk tries to think back. He’d found the guy in a bar, all bushy hair and full cheeks, and he’d gone along with Kirk easy enough, had followed him back to the house without any problem. He remembers when he’d bought the guy a drink, that he’d held his hand out, introduced himself.
“Jason,” Kirk says, squeezing Lars’s hips. “Pretty sure it was Jason.”
Lars flicks his eyes over to the body, nodding thoughtfully.
“Yeah he looks like a Jason. Write that on the wall.”
Kirk nods, glancing at the wall behind him. There’s an array of photos from their livestreams, some of them have names, some of them don’t. Kirk knows he should feel sick looking at such diabolical pictures, but all he can feel is pride. He and Lars did that, together, and they’re making money from it. Obviously, they’re not the only sick puppies in the world.
Lars lets go of him, moving to untie Jason from the chair.
“Are we burying him with the last one?”
Kirk shrugs, goes to help Lars untie Jason’s legs.
“May as well. We’re gonna start running out of room soon.”
Lars hums, lets the ropes fall to the floor.
“It’s a shame. I kinda liked him,” he says, thumbing across Jason’s limp cheeks.
Kirk unties the last rope before standing back up, tugging on his arms. They don’t budge, and Kirk looks down to notice that his hands are nailed into the chair, several iron points stacked together, welded and twisted into the guy’s hand.
“When did you use the nail gun?” he asks, pulling a bit on the nails.
“When you went to the bathroom,” Lars says. Kirk just pulls a face.
“What? I was bored,” Lars exclaims with a laugh, and Kirk can’t help but smile too.
He tugs on the guy’s arm twice, hard enough that it rips free from the hand nailed into the wood of the chair, blood gushing from the open wound where his wrist should be. Lars does it to the other arm too, and Kirk guesses they’ll just have to dispose of the hands separately.
“Well, guess it’s your turn to get the next one,” he says, because they always take turns to hunt down their target.
Lars grins, baring his teeth, blood dripping down his front.
“My pleasure.”
— —
They’re scouting out a new bar when Kirk spots him; their next target.
He’s a tall dude, taller than both he and Lars, long red hair flowing past his shoulders, face sour as he sits hunched over at the bar, obviously not really in the mood to talk to anyone. That always makes things difficult, but Kirk knows Lars is the best at persuading people to do things in his favour.
Kirk nudges Lars next to him, nods at the redhead at the bar.
Lars lights up, eyes raking over their new subject.
“Nice choice,” Lars murmurs, squeezing Kirk’s knee gently.
The guy looks strong, muscles bulging out of his arms, shoulders wide and jaw sharp. If this was a fair fight, Kirk knows the guy would probably beat both of them single handedly.
Lars passes him a small bottle under the table.
“Wait until I’ve got him facing the other way,” he says, and Kirk nods, pocketing the bottle, palms sweaty.
This is always the hard part, the hunting, the catching their prey. It’s always a risk, always hard for them not to get caught or worse, but at this point they’re pretty skilled in getting who they want to come with them. It’s just a knack they’ve managed to hone after many missed opportunities.
Lars gives him one last look before kissing his cheek quickly.
“I’ll see you in a bit.”
Kirk nods, watching as Lars gets out of the booth before sauntering over the guy.
Kirk watches as the guy doesn’t even look at Lars as Lars sits next to him, sitting as close as possible.
Kirk thinks at first that the guy’s not gonna take the bait, but then Lars is flipping his hair over his shoulders, giving his best smile, and the guy finally looks interested.
They talk for a while until the guy forgets about his drink, turning to face Lars head on now.
Kirk takes that as his cue, scoots out of the booth, careful not to trip on the table on his way out, holding the small vial in his palm, unscrewing the cap.
He walks in the direction of the toilets, but he purposely passes Lars and his companion, quickly dumping the contents of the bottle in the guy’s drink before anyone can notice, before heading into the bathroom.
That’s it, all they’ve got to do now is get the guy in the car. And then they’re home free.
Kirk goes to the sinks as soon as the door closes, splashes his face with some water to try and quell the heat that’s rising in his cheeks. He can’t tell if it’s from anxiety or excitement, but he doesn’t want people asking questions, so he tries his best to look nonchalant, practicing his face in the mirror to try and look stoic.
When he’s satisfied, he peeks back into the bar.
Lars looks past the guy, and gives Kirk a shallow nod.
It’s time.
Kirk approaches them, putting a hand around the guy’s back.
“Are you okay, man? You look like you’ve had too much to drink.”
The guy blinks at him, dazed.
“I don’t-“ the guy tries, but it’s slurred and quiet, and Kirk just shakes his head.
“Cmon, you can come back to ours. Get yourself cleaned up before you go home.”
The guy doesn’t protest, and Lars gets up to help Kirk pick the guy off the stool, guiding him out of the bar before anyone can catch onto what they’re doing.
The car isn’t too far away, but the guy keeps stumbling, and Kirk has to slug an arm over his shoulders to keep the man upright.
Soon enough though, Lars is unlocking the car, and they bundle the man into the back seat, careful to make sure he doesn’t hurt himself. No, he has to be in perfect condition. No one likes to work with damaged goods.
Lars turns to him then, slipping a hand around his waist.
“Well, that was easy,” he says, and Kirk laughs, bending forwards to kiss him softly. Lars still tastes like blood, but he always does these days. Kirk knows he’s probably no different.
“Did you get his name?” Kirk asks when he pulls away, moving to open the car door.
“Dave. His name is Dave.”

seven sentence sunday
tagged by @lostinabuddiehaze @buddierights @rogerzsteven @spotsandsocks @elvensorceress and @monsterrae1 thanks for the tags, loves!
this is for my prince buck au!
Eddie would not recommend that anyone fall in love with a prince. It is, objectively speaking, a terrible idea. It can only end in heartbreak and it’s not worth it.
Except it totally is, of course.
But it's so stupid, feeling the way he does, because the first thing Eddie learns about Buck is that he's going to marry someone someday— preferably a nice girl, from a wealthy family and good reputation. It’s the first thing that Queen Margaret told him when she hired Eddie to protect his son— or more like, to make sure her son doesn't get in trouble.
Eddie thought it'd be perfect. The job pays extremely well, he's far away from his parents and he can give Chris a comfortable, nice life.
Except, is not easy to be the personal bodyguard of one Evan Buckley.
The guy is reckless, pulling stupid stunt after other to mostly piss off his parents. He's too cocky for his own good, stubborn to a fault and he makes Eddie's job harder than it needs to be.
Evan Buckley is a pain in his ass, if he's being completely honest.
And yet… Eddie went and fell in love with him.
Eddie's never been the type to ask very many questions; he tends to stay quiet and observe, and he's good at it. But when it comes to Buck… he can’t. The prince just has this talent to push Eddie’s buttons in the most infuriating, intoxicating way.
Their first meeting hadn't been the best— not at all like Eddie picture it would go the first time he met a prince.
The thing is, Evan Buckley isn’t every other prince in the world. Other princes would have had Eddie punished, when they first met, because it was not, by any standard, a good meeting. It was the end of a long day of talking to all of the people forming the security staff of the Bukingham palace. He found a lot of stupid little mistakes that could potentially cost the royal family's safety and Eddie was just in a sour mood. So of course Buck came in making demands to go to this stupid party with zero time to plan anything.
Eddie told him right then and there that if he wasn't willing to treat him with a modicum of respect, Eddie wouldn't respect him. (It was an incredibly stupid thing to say to a prince, by the way. He definitely doesn't recommend doing that.)
He remembers how Buck opened and closed his mouth twice before leaving without another word.
The next day, he apologized. "I'm sorry about yesterday. It was— I just— I'm always here, you know? And if I'm not, I'm always with my parents or where my parents tell me to go." Buck had explained to him, surprisingly open and honest. "And I know you must be thinking I'm a spoiled brat… I just needed one day to go out and breathe, I guess."
And in that moment, Eddie had felt a connection to the prince. This sort of kinship. Because even if the situations weren't the same, Eddie could understand where the guy was coming from. He remembered how it felt when he was just a stupid teenager and got his high school girlfriend knocked up. Eddie's parents had been relentless and overbearing— Eddie could understand what Buck was saying it's all.

fic stats meme!
Rules: Give us the links to your fic with the most hits, second most kudos, third most comments, fourth most bookmarks, fifth most words, and fic with the least words
tagged by the lovely @cowboy-buddie 💖
most hits:
steppin’ into fate (911 Fox)
911 hockey AU my most beloved!!
“What the hell is this?” Evan Buckley storms into the office without knocking, tossing his phone onto the desk.
“The LA Kings have signed forward Eddie Diaz (@EDiaz82) to a five year contract” it reads. Buck doesn’t need to see it to know. He’s stared at it long enough already. There’s a graphic of Eddie Diaz and his stupidly pretty face beneath it, in his old Dallas Stars green and white, mouth open as he skates the puck up the ice. He’d looked at the replies, all of the “omg”s and heart-eyes emojis and 280-character amateur analysis of Diaz’s skills. He’d scrolled until he’d hit the inevitable “so when are we trading buckley?” tweets, and then he’d stormed into Bobby’s office without thinking about it twice.
second most kudos:
stitch my soul (911 Fox)
buddie soulmate au, one of my most favourite fics i’ve ever written
Eddie Diaz has never really put much stock into the concept of "fate". But after his marriage falls apart, he swears that he's not going to go against the universe again. He's going to find his soulmate. He's going to find Evan.
But then he meets Buck, and all of his careful plans start coming apart at the seams.
third most comments:
this is worth forever to me (911 Fox)
“Oh, right,” Buck nods, punching in the digits on autopilot. “Thanks.”
“God,” Eddie mutters, “it’s like I’m your husband.” And Buck’s entire being freezes, for just a moment. The machine beeps at him, and all he can do is stare blankly at it for a moment before flushing and yanking his card out. “Or – wife?” Eddie muses. Buck isn’t even looking at him, but he knows exactly what face he makes. “No, I’m gonna go with husband.”
The cashier is watching them like they’re a particularly riveting television show. All Buck can think to say is, “You’re not hot enough to be my husband.” Lie. The biggest lie in the world.
fourth most bookmarks:
we’ve been here forever (here’s the frozen proof) (Red White&Royal Blue)
Objectively, I am aware that you – a stranger – cannot tell me my own sexuality any better than I can, however... Can you, please? Tell me? It’s 4am and I have been thinking about this for hours, and I can’t sleep.
Warmest regards,
ACD

It’s four in the morning, and Alex Claremont-Diaz has managed to follow a research spiral straight down into a personal crisis. It isn’t the first time.
fifth fourth most words:
build my kingdom in the dark (Roswell New Mexico)
i’m still very fond of this one as well <3
Michael meets Alex Manes on a Tuesday.
After everything, after all their chaos and sex and pain and love, that detail sticks with him, for some reason. It’s a Tuesday night, their college-town bar is still packed, and Michael looks up from the beer he’d ordered with his shitty fake ID to find big brown eyes watching him from behind long lashes. A sharp impulse digs into his ribs, and Michael has always been a big fan of following impulses.
fic with least words:
and the sun shall rise again (Red White&Royal Blue)
god i wrote this one so long ago idk how i feel about it haha but it is very sweet
Very frequently Henry wakes up feeling as if he were in a dream.
i am so exhausted rn so idk who to even tag… @eusuntgratie @shitouttabuck @sibylsleaves if y’all want? 💖💖

Just finished reading it on kofi and fuck was that everything I wished for and more. I don’t want to spoil anything but for anyone who was as impatient as me, I promise its worth the five bucks like I’m just in awe because this ending is the best piece I’ve read in AGES, it was so hot so real and sooooo fuck mort thank you so much 😭
I’m gonna come back later when its posted on here and ask the questions im dying to ask because i remember you saying you really wanted to speak on what you were thinking when writing some scenes and what your intentions were but you couldnt without spoiling the ending 🥲🥲🥲 —kofi anon
idk if i wanna ruin my happiness reading the 2nd ending lol the conflicting feelings because i love sub idol very badly - kofi
i'm so glad you liked it babe! i tried to answer as many questions in the ending but yeah there are definitely parts i was writing in earlier chapters and being like i wish i could explain this lol so looking forward to your questions
haha if you liked the first ending then you're gonna be sad by the second ending as it's more angsty. however it is kinda dom!oc in a way too

also like. buck keeping the donor thing from eddie and them not having an in depth convo about it and the underlying reasons for buck wanting to do it is intentional. bc if they did then they'd have to talk about the why and buck wanting a family/kids and the whole donor not dad aspect which would lead to the will and the shooting and all that and they're ready for that rn, esp buck. it's intentional, it's them biding their time until they're both in a good place to have the will/shooting convo. and like, athena's storyline with the rapist for example didn't come to a conclusion until 5.03 and that started in 3.16 and her and bobby barely talked about it until it became too much, so like, idk why people after 6 seaons still can't grasp the multi episode/season long arc aspect of this show. the convo IS coming, they're not ignoring it, in fact they're building to it through v careful and intentional writing. anyway, sorry for the long ass ask lol
yeah absolutely! i feel like we do this every episode lmao like. some things just take time and that’s ok and we have nearly five and a half seasons worth of evidence that this show is very good at doing long-form storytelling

(discussion of family death below)
so today might be the day my mom’s dad passes. he’s been deteriorating pretty fast since he and my grandma moved in with my parents in december, and my mom came up this morning to tell me she and gran are seeing All the Signs (my aunt passed at my grandmother’s five house years ago, so they’re both familiar with how home deaths look).
I don’t have a good relationship with my mom’s dad - none of the women(/whatever I am) in the family do. he’s just always been a bad grandfather and a worse dad, and I’ve been furious with him since he demanded my mom to drive him to work at the ass-crack of dawn literally the morning after her sister passed from a long and painful illness, when he’s self-employed and hadn’t provided solid income for years. he’s just always been a selfish dude who was in it to make a quick buck at the expense of everyone else in his family, and he wasn’t even good at it bc he and my grandma have extremely limited savings that she basically has had to watch like a hawk to make sure he doesn’t blow it on something stupid. she already found out a few weeks ago that he asked the guy watching their house to repair the bed of a truck that doesn’t even run, if you need an example.
so rn I’m upstairs in my childhood bedroom bc my mom told me it was probably going to be either today or tomorrow, and I know I need to suck it up and get in the shower so I can be downstairs/present/keeping them company, but I just feel kind of… stuck? like. this man I’ve been angry at forever is passing or on his way, my mom and grandma are kind of trapped bc they don’t want to be away from here/him when he does even though I’ve gotten the vibe from both of them that they’ll kind of be relieved when he’s reunited with the rest of his batshit family, and I just needed a space to quick let this out bc I genuinely don’t know what I’m doing the rest of the day besides poking around on my laptop downstairs and twiddling my thumbs waiting for an old dude to kick it.
idk, I’m sure this makes me sound like a raging turbo-bitch 5000 and I’ve accepted that, but I can’t help but feel a little bitter at this guy who’s barely been a background figure in my life for decades - who literally lost interest in me as soon as I stopped being a cute chubby infant, but still wants to feel like he’s passing on some bullshit wisdom or whatever to my younger brother - and mad that he isn’t leaving my gran, his only wife of six decades at least, with anything but debt and an old house that she never liked that he let slide into disrepair bc he kept spending their money on useless shit.
I’m glad my family can take care of him at this stage, bc that’s what family is for and we would never dream of leaving my mom’s folks vulnerable or hurting, but I can’t help but still be angry on behalf of the three women I love more than anything whose needs he never once considered before his own, the two left alive now having to bear the brunt of his decades of shit-for-brains decisions.
anyway. family is complicated, if you have a grandpa who is/was actually worth a damn, pour one out for me tonight 🖤 that’s a lucky, lucky thing, and I’m missing my dad’s dad a whole fuck of a lot right now.

I AM FURIOUS RIGHT NOW
Ok so I don’t like supporting apple bc they all suck but androids are so difficult. Anyway my current apple is really sucky, it’s a 6s and it’s so slow, it can’t connect with anything, it won’t process data, it won’t let me communicate with an android user in pretty much any capacity, it basically makes my life a living hell. It got to the point where I had no choice but to buy a new phone so I went for the cheap iphone se. There were a few minor things I didn’t like such as the way the home button doesn’t click anymore, it just vibrates, and some general setup/style stuff but that was all mostly personal preference and resistance to adjustment on my part, not anything worth complaining about. Then I try to plug in my headphones. I love listening to music, it’s how I get to sleep, it’s how I spend my day, it helps me concentrate, music makes my life a billion times better and I cannot live without it. And my roommate obviously doesn’t want to listen to the crap I listen to at eleven pm so I don’t listen to it out loud. She’s also super particular about hearing music during the day and I listen in public a lot too, so I almost exclusively wear earbuds. Cue me trying to plug said earbuds into new phone. I fumbled around in the dark for a good five minutes, jabbing the cord at where the jack was on my old phone, before confusedly turning a light on, taking off the case, and doing a full examination of the phone. NO HEADPHONE JACK. I thought I must be blind so I googled it, and sure enough, apple had taken it away. I’m assuming just so everyone has to buy their special expensive airpods. And I also don’t want to get airpods bc for one they’re super uncomfortable to me, I prefer the little bud things, and for another thing I have pretty severe anxiety and one side effect of my particular variety is paranoia, and the idea of wearing something not actually attached to my phone and listening to it and trusting it to work is a little too much for me. So I’m thoroughly pissed at this point, bc that’s just a crappy thing to do and it’s late at night and I just want to listen to some goddamn taylor swift. And now I’m just… not even sure what I’m going to do. And I know that this is kind of a ridiculous thing to be upset about but I’m just… so sick of corporates fucking around with people to make an extra buck. Idk.
Ugh I’m sorry, I know you did not ask for a rant about why apple is awful, I just needed to spew to someone, feel free to ignore me
I totally respect the anti-Apple rant -- it is COMPLETELY warranted. but, in case you're also looking for a solution, your headphones just need an adaptor so you can still use them with your phone! Apple actually makes headphones that plug right into the charging plug now, so that's the new headphone jack (and I thought that kind of headphone came with all new phone models but in case that's not the case) -- so all you need is this small adaptor and you can continue using your headphones in peace.

Artists self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five arts/sets/edits/gifs that you've done, then pass on to at least five other people. Time to shine and spread some self-love and appreciation 💖
thanks neethu and also @blanchett for sending me this as well!! 💗
buck and eddie + invisible string set (absolute nightmare, never doing anything involving drawing lines like that again but i feel it was worth it)
chidi and eleanor set (felt like i was really pushing myself to be creative and try new things with this one so it's satisfying to look back on)
buck + richard siken set (was super indecisive about literally every element of this and ended up spending probably way longer than necessary on it but i think the end result is just nice to look at idk)
rory and logan set (yet another one that took forever but i like all the detail with the number of scenes/quotes included)
cece and schmidt set (really pleased with how the colours and the text turned out!)
