I'm sorry I'm lowkey losing my mind but i just read someone say something along the lines of i haven't gotten to law yet but I'm starting to wonder if people don't ship him with luffy just to stick someone with luffy that's not zoro and I just, oh, oh, I wish I could be there to see them actually reach law, that's going to be. beautiful. I wonder if they'll feel my same extreme delighted bewilderment in realizing that luffy just has a thing for grumpy silly swordsmen, apparently

The truest pirates in the series, got everything they have by cheating and stealing
C'mon, their introduction was HILARIOUS and so outrageous that you'd think they were just some one-off characters before the big reveal that they're the reason why the Summit War at Marineford even happened in the first place. Becoming such huge villains in the story while also maintaining an air of mystery to them is terrifying. Based on that first interaction alone you would've never guessed what they could possibly be capable of or just how relative to the overall story they'd be
One Piece is notorious for having their definition of pirate be “anyone with a ship” and not having anyone do any actual piracy so kudos to them for finally having one of the only more traditional pirate crews who are opportunists and sorta gravitate wherever chaos is for their own gain

listen have you seen them. have you seen these crazy kids and their punk theme. their dedication not only to their captain but to the aesthetic? these guys fucking rule. like Kidd and Killer obviously slap as characters, and it’s really fun to see a captain and first mate combo who are so dedicated to each other, but then they also have a whole crew who are as dedicated to them?? incredible. they went and fought a yonko for funsies and survived! also special shout-out to heat for his overall Frankenstein’s monster look <3

Things I can't stop thinking about after Heartstopper season 2.
"I'm bi, actually." I know my bi brethren and babes can relate.
Nick realising he CAN openly be Charlie's boyfriend in their friend group. Stunning for its simplicity. Like, "hang on, they all know we're dating. Imma kiss him goodbye."
Tao opening up to Nick. At the start Tao was his usual, "it's none of your business etc." Taoness. And the moment Nick asks him about Elle in the hotel room he automatically answers "fine" but then, sits up and actually talks about how he feels and we see him relax in Nicks company. It's so precious and such a core memory moment. And Nick telling him he's a good looking guy... I mean 🤌
"They're idiots for assuming you were straight." A straight up FU to Kit's trolls. Who, FYI, are not welcome here.
Nick talking to Elle about just feeling.
Tori.Tori.Tori.Tori.Tori.Tori.Tori.Tori.Tori.Tori.Tori.Tori.Tori.Tori.Tori.Tori.Tori.
Nick opening up to Tao about his worries for Charlie. And Tao taking an interest. This is such a core moment. Their combined love for Charlie means that they can only really talk to each other about him, knowing the other will understand. This was such a small scene but we learned SO much. Why Tao fears being abandoned. How scared Nick is about Charlie's mental health. And Nicks visible shock that Charlie hasn't told Tao about how bad the bullying was. These two...
Sarah my Queen! Telling Douchebag David to stop swearing and allowing Nick to swear because Nick. Had. Every. Right. Telling Stéphane that he had no right to comment on their boys as he wasn't around to parent them. Calling Charlie a good boy/sweetheart. (The scene on the eiffel tower when Charlie knows Sarah will like their selfie).
Ben's smile, remembering his first kiss with Charlie. How for him, it was a nice memory... (I have a lot to say on this... but not now.)
Isaac hearing about AroAce and getting his own Heartstopper moment. The way (THE NICEST BOY IN THE UNIVERSE) straight up told the gang to shut up speculating about his romantic life. The way he hugged that book like "this is mine bitches" and got a second Heartstopper moment.
The platonic padlock Hooray for representing platonic love!
Charlie sticking up for Nick we finally got to see his Slytherin side. Telling the Garbage King Harry to "Piss Off". Saying "No" to Harry's homo FOMO. Telling Ben that he hopes he will become a better person but he didn't want to be there to see it happen.
Tao and Elle. How adorable were ALL their scenes? Tao trying to make himself "better" for Elle, Elle being annoyed by him changing. Tao being supportive of her choice to go to Lambert. TAO'S HAIR!
Garbage King Harry speaking up for Imogen and Nick and Charlie...not brilliantly, but he spoke. If we don't see him in a skirt in Season 3 they better announce season 4 or a feature "Nick and Charlie" film.
Imogen being adorably clueless about life in general. Trying to be an ally but still making assumptions about others sexuality. Hugging Nick, because he didn't want to date her because he simply did not fancy her and not knowing how else to react. Sticking up for herself! Recognising that she deserves better! Asking the boys for a hug and telling them how lovely their friend group is and seeking them out to hang out with.
Darcy just....I mean... 🥺 I left home early too. Eventhough I had places I could go, admitting to your friends why you need a place....ouch. This hit home. The lives we project through social media, to our friends vs. the ones we live. The I love you! I LOVE YOU!
Christian, Otis and Sai, (mainly Christian). What a goofball. Loved how he said "we know you're really good mates." And Otis and Sai just closed their eyes at his stupidity. We all have that one friend who makes us cringe like that. Personally, I think he and Imogen would be super cute together. We just need Darcy to take one look at them and leave her to do the rest.
The teachers Mr Farouk's QUIET and iconic Londonisms like calling Ben "rude boy". Mr Ajayi and Coach Singh giggling like school girls. Coach Singh giving Nick some "been there done that" relationship advice. Turning her head away to stop giggling after she suggests they leave the kissing out of team practice. I love that Charlie has Ajayi and Nick has Singh. I want a Farouk fist bump.
Nick and Charlie's final bedroom scene. I will keep saying it. You cannot imagine how much this means to me. As someone who has been where Charlie has been. Nick's willingness to discuss it, to listen, with fear but without judgement. His pleading to Char to promise to tell him if he ever feels that bad again. Holy. Shit. This scene touched (and healed) something deep in my soul. The acting in this scene was just incredible. I really wish 17 yo me had heard Nick.
Nick saying "I..." then changing the sentence kind of humorous that he gets so comfortable with saying "I'm bi, actually." But can't finish the other three word sentence. "I....I really care about you." "I love your hair. I love your eyes. I love......" can't wait for Season 3 Shower Scene.

Why you should vote for each of them and full art below!
Procyoneras Lotoran Leracunin III, Destroyer of Worlds and Bane of Galaxies (by @flyingbooks42 for Three Raccoons in a Trenchcoat)
Is a raccoon who wants to destroy the universe (and is extremely over-dramatic about that), and has ultimate failswag. I've played this character across two different games, and in the first one (a one-shot) they microwaved themselves on-purpose because they thought that the microwave was a doomsday machine operated from the inside. The second game (played across two sessions) was where they really started to get their failswag, since they failed almost all of their rolls to a statistically highly improbable degree. They literally failed at running in the right direction - towards the robot dog guardian rather than towards the alien ship. One of the few successes they had was at disassembling a robot dog, which they turned into a helmet that they think makes them look like a fearsome destroyer of worlds, but put it on badly so that they can't see anything plus it makes them look silly. After that, when trying to go to the alien ship they accidentally ran into a portal, which teleported them to a dimension occupied by an eldritch dragon. They immediately (still unable to see) used silly little raccoon gestures (which in their mind was a grand proclamation) to request allies in destroying the world - nay, the universe - nay, the multiverse itself - and the dragon interpreted it as a mating dance. They continued (mis)communicating with the dragon and the dragon decided to marry them, all the time thinking that it was their new ally in destroying the world (ah, "marriage" must be part of its kind's pre-world-destuction customs). Also, the dragon came to believe that destroying worlds was a common honeymoon custom. At the marriage itself, they thought that the wedding clothes were armor (they were made of mutant-eldritch-australian-spider silk, so I guess they kind of were) and thought that all of the wedding guests were their legion of doom. Through all of the entire game, they rolled barely any successes at all, even partial successes, despite partial success being meant to be statistically likely, but they did fail forwards into failstardom.
17 Chickadee Lane (Dee) (by @sauntervaguelydownward for Monster of the Week)
Tumblr media
Dee is a house. A haunted house, though not in the traditional sense of holding ghosts. Many years ago, someone made a deal with a demon in this house, and the infernal taint caused a cascade of violence and tragedy for all who tried to make a home there. Over time, the energy that clings to such places became a sort of sentience, and Dee awoke.
At first it lashed out spitefully at any who dared enter, killing some and driving the rest away. Its historic status as one of the oldest buildings in the city kept it standing, but its cursed status kept any but thrill seekers and ghost hunters from creeping in. One of those was Daniel. The house struck at him, and Daniel said "Sorry." He said "Please." He treated the house like a person with reason and agency rather than a mindless force or a piece of property. Dee let him go, and started looking for a way to venture outside its walls.
It learned that by siphoning energy from humans, it can create a human-like projection. Its essence remains with its foundation, but it can extend part of itself to observe and interact with people outside. The projection has no fixed appearance; it looks like an AI-generated fusion of the last several people it siphoned, and sometimes goes a little blurry around the edges. Despite its view of most humans as parasites who bring misery wherever they go, it found itself growing attached to a little group of them. They are its friends, and that is more important to it than it shows.
Dee’s emotional intelligence is… underdeveloped. Like a small child, it struggles to express or even understand its own feelings beyond “I like this, I dislike that” - but it feels strongly nonetheless. It has seen affection and tenderness in its former residents and desires those things for itself, even as it believes that they always end terribly. It lashes out aggressively at anyone it sees as dismissive or disrespectful (don’t intrude on its personal space - a house takes trespassing very seriously) but it clings to anyone who treats it 'like a person'. Its idea of what it means to be a person is nebulous, but that's what it wants more than anything.

Two years gone. One more year to go.
Paresse admits to Kia about his feelings for Yamato. Yamato, the only thing motivating him to move forward. He'd told Kia before about the little flutter he'd had for Fusataro long before they'd ever jumped time. But. Well, she's gone.
And Yamato helped him through that. He'd helped everyone but himself, and Paresse had tried to return the favor. He isn't even really sure it worked.
Kia comforts him, as best she can. She and Paresse know there's nothing to be done for his affections. At least not that they know of. After all, Yamato and Rune are a happy couple, ancient soul mates reunited through time...
There's no competing with that.
Kia quietly laments her own troubles, and the two end up spending the night together. Rumors pop up, but both quickly squash them. Vice doesn't know why he's so relieved that Kia is telling the truth, nor why he was so upset in the first place. Well, he knows... but he won't admit it.
Yamato snickers behind his back, but he's also kind of glad. He ignores the fluttering thoughts that he was also relieved. Surely his heart is just echoing Vice's thoughts through their connection.
The final year passes way too quickly for anyone's liking. Hackles raise as Vice warns them that it's close. Vice and Yamato plot for their final encounter with Ultimo. Hopefully, following this, that will be the end of it. And Dunstan will be all that's remaining.
They have no idea what's waiting for them.
The flash happens. Vice lays low, while the sins spread out to find the perfections.
Kia clashes with Murayama. Rage vs Sophia once again, except now in the past.
Akira and Sumako work to track down Sayama and Matsumoto, their two allies in the other side.
Kaizo chooses to clash with his daughter, insistent that he can talk sense into her and get her to listen.
Mizho goes after Akitsu, for reasons she refuses to speak.
Eater and Hana go to distract Service and her master.
Rune and Jealousy stay behind to keep watch and guard where Yamato and Vice are.
All the while, Ultimo is on the prowl. Hunting for his enemy. Once Vice is dead, all of this can stop. Yamato will face the consequences. They will win this stupid war and all go back home. He's so blinded by his mission, he doesn't realize that his allies are being converted, one by one.
Sayama needs no convincing. She just nods to Akira when he approaches her. Her memories restored by Regula, she agrees to Engrave the other Perfections with the truth of Ultimo's actions. That he'd killed someone just as dear to the Sins as Eco had been to them. Showed them their pain. Showed them the bonds between the sins, just like any group. Showed them Yamato's plan.
Matsumoto, upon seeing this, practically runs to Sumako when she sees her. She knows she's the last key and she knows Ultimo would likely kill her and Pardonner just to keep Vice from getting that last Noh he needs.
Akitsu is heartbroken to know Rune's heart belongs to Yamato, but she knows what's right, and she knows where her douji wants to be. They end up coming in and helping Kia finish the battle with Murayama.
Hibari is skeptical, especially with her father on their side, but she can hear her father's joy at seeing her well, that Ultimo hasn't hurt her. The Engrave shows her how he saw her in everything Hana did. Avaro admits he's kinda missed his older-younger sister. She yells for a minute, of course she does. Kaizo is far from the best father. But ultimately, she ends up in a bear hug with her dad, crying into his shoulder.
Service and her master end up vaguely watching from afar, seeing the goings-on and largely avoiding conflict. There's not much Eater and Hana can do, and their thoughts mostly remain their own at first.
With Sophia badly damaged, Murayama retreats with him. Akitsu and Slow have to wrangle Kia to keep her from going after.
Ultimo finally realizes what's happened under his nose as Kei shakily reports back to him, a trembling mess as Ultimo practically goes berserk over it.
There's barely an hour between Matsumoto and Pardonner finally reaching Vice and Yamato, and Ultimo beginning to tear through the city. Pardonner barely has the time to explain his noh as he patches Kia and Rage's wounds before they start to hear it.
The 'Ultimate Good' rationalizes that once Vice is dead, he can just reverse all of the damage. All of the deaths.
But Vice.
Has.
To.
Die.
Vice wants to immediately jump to the far future, to face Dunstan the moment he's got the noh. But Yamato hesitates. He knows it's not going to matter. That once everything is done, he's going to put everything back, but he can't ignore the screams. They have to face Ultimo.
All Yamato wanted to do was disable Ultimo. Knock him out and leave him behind.
Murayama was already out of the running, it won't be a hard or long fight...
Right?
...
In the future, very little would make Yamato feel sicker than looking back on that decision.

ALICE MINERVA LONGBOTTOM XXVI. auror on leave. order of the phoenix written by: a for: grimmplacehq !!
tw: death mention, ptsd mentions.
𝐅𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐒
full name: alice minerva longbottom ( nee fortescue )nickname: allie age: twenty six pronouns: she / her blood status: pureblood parents: florean fortescue iii. and minerva fortescue (rip) father's occupation: owner of florean forestcue's ice-cream parlor mother's occupation: she used to be a healer. siblings: 3 older brothers, florean iv, alistair and colin (rip) social status: upper-middle class. husband: frank longbottom children: none as of now wand: 9 1/2 inches, applewood, dragon heartstring, unyielding. patronus: dolphin, but she is currently unable to cast one, the grief of losing her brother colin has kept her from being able to summon her patronus, since before the war ended. boggart: dead family members, raging from her husband, her father and her three brothers. former hogwarts house: gryffindor current occupation: auror for the ministry of magic, currently on an extended leave. positive traits: exuberant, resourceful, bold, imaginative, courageous, vivacious. negative traits: ingenuous, short-tempered, self righteous, motor mouth syndrome and impulsive.
𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐏𝐇𝐘
born the last of the fortescue clan and the only daughteralice minerva fortescue was nothing short of desired, a welcomed addition to a rowdy group of brothers, who would soon learn what it was like to care for a little girl, without the guiding hand of their mother. minerva fortescue, fell ill a few months after alice was born and passed before she could utter her first words. a blow to her family but a loss that she did not register. outside of the few times she questioned why other children had mothers and she didn't… to be met with you have a florean, an alistair and a colin others don't. it very much was a make the best of it situation for everyone in involved despite that she was a happy child, an inquisitive one too, something of a whirlwind, it was and always has been some what of a challenge to keep her alive. the sort of kid who was asking the ' why's ' and ' how come's ' of things before anyone could really fathom she would. alice has always been curious about life itself, often feeling that time moved too fast so she'd have to spend her life catching up with it.
her family, while pure-blooded isn't exactly what one would call distinguished no their claim to fame is never melting ice-cream and a surplus of ridiculous flavors one could find possibly life threatening. she grew up in a tiny little apartment just above florean's ice-cream parlour in diagon alley, the shop having been in the family for ages, her great grandfather, grandfather and father at the forefront, ice cream has been a fortescue family tradition, since alice can remember. and diagon alley? well that was her little kingdom, the young girl spent her formative years before setting off to school, chatting with anyone who stopped by, memorizing ice-cream orders and being her father's BEST taste tester… certainly an idyllic way to grow up. perhaps a little too much, for you see, a rose colored lens and a black and white view of good vs evil has been the result of such a charmed life. it established a firm belief in "heroes" and the notion that courage and kindness are the way to win in the world, thoughts she takes far too seriously, a motto she wants and strives to live by that contributes to her inexperienced and naive approach to most of her life.
𝐇𝐎𝐆𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐒
sorted into GRYFFINDOR house, she settled in quickly, in fact she'll proudly tell anyone that will listen that the sorting hat, had little to no difficulty placing her…. ( ergo, her naive way of viewing things ) thought of her house mates like family, and any gryffindor was a friend, another name to her long list of those she needed to protect. she joined the quidditch team officially during her fourth year, having auditioned for the chaser position, during her third and not making it. she stumbled into the beater position, accidentally… a rage filled day, lead to one thing and then another and the rest was history, she grew quite comfortable with her role on the team. there was dueling club, which was more so her desire to keep up with her brothers, 2 of which were well respected aurors who went on to be members of the order. astronomy, what day dreamer doesn't like the stars? nothing better than getting lost in a day dream and counting the cosmos, a space that allowed her to get lost in her own imagination. an excellent student, alice was competitive in her studies and one that often did her best work when challenged, there was nothing quite like the thrill of accomplishing something when she's been told otherwise. the art of standing up for those who needed it, for the voiceless and the defenseless, was always natural for the young witch and the classes in which she excelled at, led her down a path that two of her family members had already followed and thus began her quest to become an auror.
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐑
all 4 of the fortescue clan joined the order, promising to fight together for the well being of the world they so adored. it was in the order that alice's reputation as a formidable and respected auror came to fruition, a skilled fighter the witch was a natural and as the war progressed so did her rank, she moved up pretty quickly and often found herself in strategy talks. a well trusted individual within the order, she along side her husband did in fact acquire the reputation, having defied lord voldermot not once, not twice but three times and lived to tell the tale. now such glory comes with a price and that price was steep, the loss of her brother colin hit, alice hard a blow that only added to the already burst ' bubble of innocence ' that she grew up surrounded by. ridding the world of true evil, came with a price one that had been so romanticized that when it came down to it, the witch realized that parts of herself would never be the same while already knee deep in an overwhelmingly large battle ground.
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐎𝐖
the end of the war has signified peace and while it is true on a larger scale, the inner workings of the once naive and romantic witch have never been the same. alice longbottom's attitude is what most would describe as a little jaded, still as cheery as ever... her optimism holds an edge, perhaps a more realistic approach to life than she'd had before. sadness is attached to her, mourning her brother. her family hasn't been the same since and she still has the nightmare of the night she saw him fall, it's become some what of a recurring dream. now while she knows that letting her guard down will come with time, as of now she's kept it up, perhaps suffering from a little PTSD here and there, it seems that she's always in flight or fight mode. she's been on leave from the ministry for about a month since the war ended and in truth, she isn't entirely sure that she wants to return, despite having been asked. she's been offered a respectable rank in the auror department, but she has instead taken to helping out with her family's ice-cream shop, using the excuse that they need to get back on their feet.. now while true, the reality is that the shop has become a place for her to hide and perhaps the one way she has to still have a rather tight hold on the family she has left.

i don't really have a philosophical point here, but watching contrapoint's new video and hearing about how transphobic cis women react to trans women has made me think about how i, when i thought i was a cis woman, reacted to trans women. the first time i knowingly met a trans woman was in college. i already had a friend who was a trans man, and i had been furiously reading up on trans inclusive language and trans history to be a good ally, but when i met this woman my age, it wasn't a "logical" response, i was having an emotional response. i remember being so ecstatic. i was like a little kid who just got told her parents were pregnant with a baby sister. my room mates and i were so giddy, and when she mentioned she needed to go bra shopping for the first time we not only offered to go with her, but ran to our rooms to give her some of our own (because that shits expensive lol).
again, i don't really have a solid point to all this, other than seeing the complete other end of the spectrum via clips of some of the most militant anti-trans activists of our day. by their logic """men""" are intruding on their space, and by my and my room mates' logic we were gaining a surprise woman we hadn't even expected. enemies from all sides vs new sister. and we can't even 100% blame upbringing, because i went to catholic school my whole life and was raised by active republicans (i even worked in republican campaign offices). we also can't say the negativity comes from abuse from men, because my room mates and i were all victims of some kind of abuse, which in a way made us more happy to have another woman in the world, because we were gaining a new ally (and maybe subconsciously losing an icky man... misandry). i guess it really does come down to the individual for how they'll react to things, because on paper it looks like both groups of cis women ("cis" for me lol) should react exactly the same, but don't.

hi! how likely do you think it is that we'll see a bakugou vs todoroki 2 where shouto finally uses fire against him? especially since it feels like that's one of the only bakugou things that's been left pending
I don't really see that fitting into the current mood. I have a hard time seeing another Sport Festival to be organized in the present situation and it would leave a very bitter taste in my mouth if Deku is running around doing big fights and villains, and class 2-A is used as mere "circus fodder" to the public, when people are suffering and thousands of villains are on the loose.
At most, I could see them in a short spar / training fight, considering they are probably the closest matched in strength at this point out of their class.
But also, I don't feel like that's necessarily a "pending issue" for Bakugou. He's seen now enough of the Todoroki family situation that he understands why Shouto behaved the way he did. They've been team-mates now forever - first in the remedial classes, then in the Endeavor internship - so Bakugou probably has a very clear idea of how he measures up against Shouto (I think their fights would be pretty much a toss-up in most cases).
Tumblr media
But also, Bakugou's arc has been moving away from the need for some external validation that can somehow prove to him that he's indeed the strongest. I think by now he knows that no No. 1. ranking or winning a fight can give him that. He won against Todoroki, he won against Deku, he got first place in the Sport Festival, he got a perfect 4-0 victory in the JTA and he still went into the Endeavor internship searching for something.
The validation he needs has to come from inside himself and he's on his way to achieve that, with his atonement for his past sins, with helping his friends / rivals to get stronger and becoming an excellent team player, with changing his own perspective on saving people and seeing his power-ups not as a self-serving tool to validate his strength but as a way to save more people.
Narratively, I think there is absolutely nothing that he could get out of winning or losing against Shouto. It doesn't matter. All it would be is one match on one day, against an opponent who matches his own strength while they both have things they are better at, and is one of his closest allies at this point in the story.
Beating Shouto would not make Bakugou a better hero, nor losing to him would prove that he failed in his goals somehow.
The only kind of fight that would make sense to me at this point would be an emotional one where they could both vent their current frustrations and pain about being left behind and about how weak and helpless they felt on that battlefield.

I honestly agree with a lot of your opinions, and even when I don't, I think that your arguments are always well structure and respectful to other people.
But I have some questions (and I'm sorry if you have already answer them), (also sorry for some of my English, it's not my first language)
How do you feel about narusaku?
How do you feel about people changing certain aspects about Sakura to try to improve her character?
How would you improve Sakura?
How much do you think Sakura being a good character could affect the story?
What was the moment you really started to ship SNS? And what are you favorite moments?
(Sorry if there's ro many questions)
I honestly agree with a lot of your opinions, and even when I don't, I think that your arguments are always well structure and respectful to other people.
Aww!!!! Thank you, Anon. This made my day. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I will start from my favourite question (The one in the last)
What was the moment you really started to ship SNS?
I never wore any shipping lens, Anon.
Literally, I started to ship SNS only after Episode 478 or Chapter 698. Before that, I always had these doubts in the back of my mind.
'Something seems to be very weird between these guys',
'Why are they behaving differently compared to other friends?',
'Why Sasuke is behaving totally different towards Naruto?',
'Why Sasuke agreed to honour Naruto's promise under the bridge, despite having no shred of affection towards his other former Team Members?',
'Why Naruto is so obsessed with Sasuke?',
'Why Sasuke felt Naruto's chakra in Konoha and bothered by it?',
'Why Sasuke is protecting Naruto like a precious treasure only to end up wanting to kill him?',
'Why Sasuke has this weird obsession that ONLY I CAN KILL NARUTO but not someone else?',
So, I had all these questions piling up one by one inside my mind as the series progressed and I can't simply jump into a conclusion because I don't know what Sasuke was thinking. I hate one-sided ship and I want reciprocation. So, I usually put all these questions on the back burner and started to focus on the story. Damn!!!, The story was equally captivating and emotionally daunting. When Sasuke finally confessed his feelings towards Naruto in Episode 478, I simply couldn't believe myself but ship them. Because, in no world, Friends would behave this way towards each other.
So, to answer your question, it's after Episode 478, I started to ship them. But if you want me to say when exactly I started to doubt their level of friendship??
It's this moment,
Tumblr media
Now you may think, 'Yeah, you saw two boys in a close proximity and decided to ship together. It's nothing strange'.
I have to say, Close proximity was the last thing, I felt from this scene. My reason was those heart breaking scenes that happened before which led to this specific moment.
I will make it as short as possible. I'll start with this
Tumblr media
God!! I wanted to punch Sasuke so badly when he said this with a deadpan expression. It looks like he was lying just to get power. I thought, 'Sasuke!!! What a lying piece of crap you are!! If you want to kill Naruto, Just do it. Why doing a fake confession? '.
It doesn't help as the fight progressed because Sasuke was really playing football with Naruto and when this happened,
Tumblr media
I was shell-shocked because, the Sasuke we saw so far is no more. It even confirmed my thoughts about the fake confession. Which sane person will ram Chidori through his Close Friend's body?.
After many blows were exchanged, I simply wished for one thing. Naruto should win and Sasuke should be stopped no matter what. When the final Rasengan vs Chidori happened, I couldn't understand what was going on inside that power ball. Naruto and Sasuke look at each other with pained expression and we see the younger version of them smiling at each other.
And then finally we see a knocked out Naruto with Sasuke standing and looking at him without any expression and was about to say, 'Naruto.... I' which was interrupted by rain and when Sasuke felt a stinging pain in his arms and falls down on his knees. He coughs up blood and then this iconic scene happens.
That scene conveyed many things
Sasuke wanted to kill Naruto but couldn't.
Sasuke meant what he said. Naruto is his closest friend, it’s not a lie.
Sasuke couldn't severe his ties completely with Naruto.
Sasuke's pain of saying 'Goodbye' is greater than the stinging pain in his arms.
Sasuke deliberately, I repeat deliberately and not accidentally, came close to look at Naruto's face and experiencing something that, we, audience don't know.
So, you see, Anon. The emotional train wreck that led to this scene made me really doubt about their depth of feelings they had towards each other for the first time. That's when I thought, 'Something seems to be very weird between these guys, what is it?'
And what are you favorite (SNS) moments?
There are two moments which shows how Sasuke is playing an emotional battle within himself.
1. Sasuke, Susanoo, Naruto, Minato
Tumblr media
This happens right after Sasuke said to Obito, “Not you.... The one who is going to sever the past is....me”.
In this moment, Sasuke can pretty much let Naruto to die, because nobody is trying to kill Naruto. Still, he saved him with a 3 layered protection. The best part is Sasuke acted quicker than Minato, the fastest shinobi, to protect Naruto. Surely Minato wouldn’t want to blow up near his Son, for whom he gave his life once. It’s just that Sasuke is extremely quicker at this moment.
2. For some reason, My Sharingan deactivated on it’s own
Tumblr media
If only, Sasuke maintained his Sharingan, he could’ve traced Naruto’s movements and deflected his upper cut and would’ve successfully landed his Chidori through him. But he just couldn’t.
Both these scenes happens in a span of a day but Sasuke’s emotions fluctuates a lot when it comes to killing Naruto, protecting Naruto, can’t kill Naruto.
How much do you think Sakura being a good character could affect the story?
To be Honest Anon, Storywise ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Yes, I agree with her amazing performance in Gaara retrieval Arc where she tagged along with Granny Chiyo and almost killed Sasori.
After that ????
She did nothing in the Sasuke Reunion Arc. It was all about Naruto vs Orochimaru, Yamato’s Wood style jutsu, Sai’s betrayal towards Orochimaru. Geez!!! I liked her attitude in this arc but totally spoiled when she was standing simply like a wooden doll when Sasuke was about to stab Naruto. It was Sai who blocked Sasuke.... I was like, ‘Girl!!!! You said you will save Sasuke for Naruto when he went into 4 tails mode. What happened now??? Why are you not stopping him???’
She was just making Food Pills in the Rasen Shuriken Arc.
She was basically climbing from one tree to another in the Sasuke killing Orochimaru to Sasuke joining Akatsuki Arc. Even Naruto’s role was very minimal in that arc except he met Kabuto, Dead soul of Jiraiya, Itachi, a split second meeting with Sasuke where he got Chidori’ed and fought with Tobi.
She was just a spectator praying for Naruto in the Pain Arc. Yeah, she did healed few people and punched some monsters. But it just doesn’t matter. Even Konohamaru killed a Pain in that arc.
She turned into an Asshole by making a fake confession towards Naruto and decided to kill Sasuke in the Kage Summit Arc. I think, this is where Kishi decided to shit on her mercilessly by making her into someone who was going to hurt both of her team mates mentally and physically. Basically Kishi transformed a clever medical Ninja who can find an antidote in a matter of hours to an asshole who believed Naruto did everything for her and even more of an idiot by planning to kill Sasuke with just a poisoned Kunai. Isn’t she the one who told Kakashi that Sasuke was given forbidden drugs to improve his strength after their Reunion??? Can’t she put 2+2 together to know Sasuke would be immune to poisons because of his days spent with Orochimaru??? Yeah, she did impacted the story. But it was not for her development. Sakura’s foolishness made Naruto and Sasuke to meet each other again and made a promise. So, you see, she was just a tool that pushes the narrative development of other characters, not her own. Her development took a big blow in this arc.
She was non-existent in the Naruto-Killer Bee Training Arc.
She was just healing people and punched some zetsu during Powerful Edo-Tensei Shinobis vs Allied Shinobi forces Arc. I expected her to have a special fight. But Nope. Even Ino, Shikamaru and Choji fought Asuma, Kakuzu and Kinkaku, Ginkaku brothers.
She was non-existent in the Uchiha Madara vs 5 Kages mini arc
She was non-existent in Obito vs Naruto, Kakashi, Might Guy and Killer Bee mini arc.
She was non-existent in the Sasuke & Itachi vs Kabuto mini arc.
She was non-existent in the Edo Tensei’ed Hokages and Team Sasuke arc.
She was punching some Juubi Clones in the Official War Arc which will never make a difference to the story. At the same time, her character was transformed from an Asshole who hurted her teammates to an horny biasshhhh who wants only Sasuke’s D. She summoned Katsuyu and was healing soldiers. But there were an army of Medical Ninjas too. So her absence will not affect the story in a big way. She did Lip to Lip CPR for Naruto though. Again, that would never help Naruto in a major way unless he was helped by Obito by placing Bijuu inside him. Again, Kishi didn’t make her the sole saviour here. Instead, she was used as a medium to facilitate Obito’s transformation from a bad guy to good guy. Kishi made Obito as the Saviour here.
She was useless and was not able to destroy Obito’s rinnegan in the Reincarnation of Indra and Ashura vs Rikkudou Sennin Madara arc.
She was useless in the Kaguya arc. [Sorry, that punch won’t make any difference because Kaguya must be stupid to not use her 360 degree vision to see Sakura from behind. With Naruto and Sasuke has already become a demi god at this point, her clown show is incomparable].
She was useless in the final Naruto vs Sasuke arc.
So, you tell me Anon. Did she make any impact to the story that served as a major twist??
The story revolved around Naruto and Sasuke.
Itachi, Obito, Jiraiya, Madara, Hashirama and other Hokages were the game changers of this story. Meaning, their presence or death will change the story by a huuuuggge margin.
Tsunade, Orochimaru, Team Nagato, Kabuto helped our protagonists in a BIGGGG WAAYYYY.
Akatsuki were just amazing who gave us the sense of thrill as well as fun.
Even Sakura being good will never impact the story because she had no dedicated arc written for her.
But, if she were written as a good character, my viewing experience would have improved in a relaxing way so much so that I don’t have to press my fast forward button whenever she appears and I wouldn’t be writing this post explaining why I hate her.
How would you improve Sakura?
Simple, By writing her similar to Rin Nohara.
No obsession but a simple love towards Sasuke.
No toxicity but caring friendship towards Naruto.
That’s all.
How do you feel about people changing certain aspects about Sakura to try to improve her character?
Well, that means they would qualify as a fanfiction writers, aren’t they??.
Also, this inherently proves that she is a piss poor character and people wants to change certain aspects of her which they find annoying. But it will 100% end up being OOC. And I’m not into reading those OOC stuffs, Anon.
I always believe in accepting what the author has given rather than trying to fix their work. Because the author writes a character deliberately to make the readers feel what he intended in the first place. Kishi could write a redemption for even someone like Orochimaru towards the very end. Like, he literally made him to help Sasuke, not as a human predator, but as a former Master and an admirer. He wrote him to help Tsunade and other Kages. So in the end, Orochimaru was not hated like he was hated in part 1. If he can write something for Orochimaru, why not for Sakura???
You know how I can redeem Sakura in just 3 or 4 panels?
Let me tell you.
After that fake confession, Sakura could talk to Naruto,
“I am very Sorry, Naruto. I know you will never take things in your heart. But still I shouldn’t have used Love as a tool to make you not to do something. I was an Idiot to not realize how badly you want to save Sasuke. It wasn’t just for me. But it was for Sasuke and also for you, as his friend and also for us as Team 7. So, how about we go to Ichiraku, for a nice lunch??”
While confessing Sasuke for the second time,
“It seems you still want to go on to that dark path, isn’t it?. I am not the most powerful ninja in this world and I know I can’t trade blows with you. But still.... if you try to hurt my friend, Naruto and my master, Tsunade. I will fight with all my strength to kill you..... Even though I love you”
I am pretty sure, if Sakura confessed something along these lines, everyone would have admired her and it shows her emotional maturity as a Kunoichi who wants to do something to this world as well as a person who is ready to kill someone she loved in order to protect the people she holds dear.
In chapter 699. Before saying Goodbye to Sasuke,
“I am very Sorry, Sasuke. I never really understood what was going on inside your heart. And, I always forced myself on you because of my selfishness. I really feel bad for those things. I never really became your friend in the first place. How about we say farewell as ‘a good friends’, before your redemption journey??” (Shakes hands.... End of Scene)
How is this???
Is it pleasant to read?? Of course, Yes.
I am pretty sure it wouldn’t take more than 4 or 5 panels. Kishi could’ve easily did something like this. Am pretty sure readers would’ve been satisfied. Her fans too. Even I would’ve forgiven her mistakes.
But Kishi didn’t and I am very sure it’s deliberate. Because, this very same Kishimoto could able to write Konan, Tsunade who acts with so much maturity without whining like a little girl.
Which shows Kishi clearly hates this character and never wanted to redeem her.
So no matter how many people improve this character, it will never be believable.
How do you feel about narusaku?
Naruto always placed Sasuke as his priority, Anon. That’s always the case. So, apart from SNS, if you want me to say whether NaruSaku had any potential?
I would say, yes, NaruSaku had potential. I will not deny it. Naruto had some liking towards Sakura compared to the absolute indifference towards Hinata.
There are some moments Sakura genuinely cried for Naruto without anyone’s influence. I liked it. Say, the scene where she cried on hearing ‘A Jinchuriki without Bijuu will die” and with Yamato she told, “I can only do little things for Naruto”.
These are all coming from her own heart. No one instilled inside her.
[[[ That’s why I will not accept her realization of ‘Annoying, huh? So, this is how Naruto must have felt too. Maybe I should be a little nicer to him next time’ as genuine in Episode 3. Because she realized only after Sasuke roasted her. I want feelings to emerge subconsciously rather than instilled by someone. ]]]
Unlike the asshole Sakura she was in part 1, Sakura started out good in Shippuden. I was surprised with her development in Gaara Retrieval Arc and was not at all annoyed by her presence. (Except when she said she will save Naruto and Sasuke from Itachi.... Grrrrr.... Biashhhhh.... Do you know Itachi’s abilities first of all??? He can crush you like a meatball with his Susanoo)
I started to feel, ‘Wooow!!! She has improved a lot. Great!!!!’.
Even though, she was useless in Rasen Shuriken Arc, She still made an effort to make food pills for Naruto. She even hugged Naruto much to his surprise, before all the villagers and especially before, ahemmm Hinata after defeating Pain.
Despite all of these moments that had happened between them, I could only see them as a pair formed of mutual tragedies rather than mutual attraction, Anon. In their case, Losing Sasuke. I wasn’t 100% sure whether Sakura moved on from Sasuke or not. Because When Sakura was looking for Sasuke with Kakashi’s Tracking dogs, she was still in love with him. So Sakura fluctuates between her obsession with Sasuke and some genuine feelings towards Naruto.
Kage summit Arc is where everything changed and finalized. Sakura was crying like an annoying shit when she heard that Sasuke joined Akatsuki and was wanted by Raikage. This clearly shows her obsession has flared up again and ‘Poof’ all the development she had with Naruto was thrown into drain.
On top of it, the fake confession. Grrrrrr.......
Plus, Naruto officially closed the possibilities of this ship by saying, “Sasuke, I know the Truth of Itachi from a guy named Tobi. I don’t know whether it’s true or not. But whatever you’ve been doing so far (hunting Killer Bee, ruckus in Kage summit conference, trying to kill Sakura, Kakashi).... It’s all understandable”.
If Naruto truly, wholeheartedly, deeply loved Sakura, he wouldn’t have said something like, ‘It’s understandable why you tried to kill Sakura”. He should have beaten Sasuke into a pulp. Or atleast shown some intense anger. Instead, Naruto was talking to Sasuke and making promise by saying ‘We will die together’. It’s like Sakura playing cupid for Sasuke and Naruto.
Naruto was okay with someone trying to kill Sakura whereas he was not okay with someone trying to kill Sasuke and even went to the extent of hyperventilating. This is why I feel any other ships are incomparable with SNS.
After that Sakura started to behave rabidly towards Sasuke in the War arc which I can’t help but feel disgusting. So, anything she did for Naruto in the War Arc was overshadowed by her crazy obsession towards Sasuke. That’s why her CPR doesn’t matter, Sakura healing Naruto doesn’t matter. [Naruto has his own regenerative abilities, so whatever she does will not matter much for him]
So, NaruSaku was closed officially by Naruto and Sakura. It couldn’t sail because of the presence of Sasuke.
At the end, I felt like Sakura used Naruto for getting her man back ready for romance rather than a killer mode Sasuke. I couldn’t feel the friendship they once had or any familiarity.
I just hate people who don’t value friendships, anon. Sakura was not even a good friend, first of all. Yeah she had her friendly moments here and there. But, at the end of the series, she was not. A war has just ended, many people lost their lives, her supposed ‘best friend’ Ino lost her father. Why can’t she help her out emotionally? Why can’t she do some fucking good stuffs for this Shinobi world like her other teammates?? Instead, what she did was ‘let’s go and persuade Sasuke-kun to lend me some D by going along with his journey. Because I am so horny’.
It not how you were in the beginning, It’s how you ended up being. She started this series as a worst friend and she ended up as a worst human being for me. How can I ship such a person with Naruto????

Burning Questions I Still Have:
You know SJM really hasn’t given us too much substance in these book talks so I’m just going to put down these questions as my own way of expanding the topic of the book beyond Eris, Azriel, and the copious amount of sex they’re going to have (Nesta and Cassian) though all of that is very exciting.
1. How much does Mor factor into this story? Are we going to see her at all or would she be more focused in on an Azriel story if we get one?
2. Does Elain have any say in sending Nesta away? Will she have some involvement in Nesta’s healing? Will we see her in Illyria, visiting her sister perhaps, or will it be short instances?
3. Does Nesta make new friends? Assumedly she does, but right now it’s looking very established character centric, but you know with these lack of spoilers. (rolls eyes)
4. Will the witch concept brought up in ACOWAR come up in ACOSF? Is Nesta technically a witch? Because her power extends beyond her natural reserve “technically.” Will we see other witches? Witches vs Illyrians... Maybe?
5. What is the main conflict in Illyria? And how will it be resolved? So far we know it has something to do with rebellion, but how do you fix that realistically?
6. How will the women in Illyria gain some autonomy, because lets be honest, everyone learning to fight is and is not going to fix everything?
7. Where is Bryaxis?
8. Eris has a deal with Rhysand to help him kill his father. How would that work? Does it involve Nesta, does this then involve her more in the Inner Circle’s antics in which she’ll gain a job in some way? Whether she wants to or not.
9. How does Nesta suffer? We know emotionally, yes. Power, yes. But how does that come about when there’s so much potential conflict in this book.
10. What is the main conflict of this story? There seems to be many, that I’m sure will be extended to the other books that come out, but to what to extent does this book extend to the others. Will we see all of the same characters in the books after this one?
11. Eris’s mom and Helion; Helion and Lucien. Enough said.
12. Nesta dealing with her father’s death.
13. Cassian’s mom, who is supposedly dead. (Jury is still out on that one; no dead body, no dead)
14. What’s that shadowy evil substance that Mor discovers by her estate?
15. Will Mor get a story? Especially since if she does then she’d be the first LGBTQ character from the SJM universe to have their own book... I think. Don’t quote me on that. But she’s got a lot to deal with too and I think she deserves a book. She’s a very interesting character. She reminds me of a mixture between Aelin and Bryce and the more secretive aspects of Nesta.
16. Will Elain ever get a mate or significant other? Honestly, I’m on the fence with this. Mostly because one, Elain is purely side-character to me. She’s interesting, but not enough right now to warrant a whole book. I also just think that right now she’s kind of useless, and I don’t mean that to be mean, I just mean that she doesn’t have a purpose yet and most of her personality right now is purely fodder. It’s her main personality I say. Maybe not the honest to god deep one, but she’s got at least the surface level personality with hints of iceberg feelings.
Interestingly enough it makes more sense I think to have the next book centered on Lucien and Azriel if they’re going to settle that conflict. Even though I hate love triangles in any sense, but none of them love each other right now anyways... And I think that it would be hard to figure out these three relationships when they’re already linked together in ACOWAR and ACOFAS.
17. Will we ever know why Amren and Nesta got into a fight? Will their relationship be fixed? Also where she at in this whole conflict of interest that is this book and Nesta being sent away? Will we see her often?
18. Will Rhysand have a good amount of time in this book? What is his involvement with Nesta--his sister-in-law lol? Will their relationship reach some level of understanding? Will they hate each other for ever? Will they have some semblance of mutual respect and a common denominator that is the love for Feyre and their protectiveness for their family?
19. What are Cassian’s conflicts? To be quite honest, I feel this book is very Nesta centric, and I do hope that Cassian is not just thrown in there for romance and that’s it. BUT we know the Illyrian conflict, the Mor/Azriel conflict, the issue with being born a bastard, not belonging with his people. The Nesta conflict, the war probably. But like besides Nesta, all of these conflicts have existed for as long as he’s lived. So is that really a conflict or an issue to be dealt with... A lot of this will be resolved through the “Powers of Love” lol and whatever else they can do in Illyria, but then what else? Internally, I don’t feel he has too much to deal with because well... a lot of his problems center around other people.
20. What will Feyre being doing? Let me be honest, I don’t like the thought of Feyre being pregnant. I understand her body her choice, but this girl literally went from let’s spend time with each other to let’s have a baby, because maybe it won’t happen in a few hundred years. But let’s be honest, if I was her I would not be thinking that it would happen in a few hundred years. Things happen in the most inconvenient times, and right now with all this, it’s very inconvenient. I also think I really don’t like it because right now she is really playing into that role of a wife and not as everything we know her as. I mean she’s allowed to relax, to be loved and what not, but I don’t know. Lame, I think, that she became high lady in name, but probably not in any sort of empowerment way, and I think that’s sad because she could do an awful lot of good, and should do it, because right now her court has soooooo many issues, even issues that Rhys kind of just puts in the back burner and hopes for the best. She is the equal to Rhys, but so far she’s not seeming so equal and she also seems to have lost some purpose. So I’m also wondering if this want of a child and planning for it is Feyre’s way of being useful again... because she spent so much of her life taking care of other people. Which again..... ehhhhhh.
21. What the f*** are Nesta’s powers? What do they do? I hope it does not end in some vague inclination like Mor’s truth power whatever. But like, she should be all powerful, death god status. I want to see Nesta as the goddess she is.
22. Koschei??? The stealer of the hero’s wife or whatever as he’s referenced in Russian lore... I think? Is he going to be more involved in Vassa, or Elain even (because Elain right now has always been the damsel) or Nesta, because of the queens and “their powerful ally.” Wouldn’t he be the best teacher for Nesta’s power really, when he’s a powerful sorcerer in the book/death god that has worshippers and what not and collects women.
>>> My theory is that if Elain and Lucien are the next pov’s then maybe Nesta will be kidnapped by Koschei at the end, and Elain gets to really show what she’ll do for her family, and what she’s made of. But it also keeps the story going without cutting it off completely, and we keep the bigger conflict which is that there’s a whole world of problems and rulers and that Nesta’s story can’t really end at this book, because again she’s suppose to be all-powerful, cauldron incarnate, the wind has heard of her, spreading the news around, and that she does need to learn her powers and I doubt anyone can really teach her, but she for sure probably can’t teach her self.
23. Will the love triangle situation not be between Elain, Lucien, and Azriel, but Vassa, Elain, and Lucien, or maybe a love square like A Midsummer Night’s Dream? That would be kinda cool. I just don’t really know if Azriel will be a love interest for Elain, even if he has that fondness for her. Azriel has a lot of problems, but he’s also like... I don’t know. Off topic.
24. The Queens--what the hell? What about that one who turned old and is now immortal? They were chilling in Vassa’s kingdom. Where are they so Nesta can beat their asses? Also, these human kingdoms--what? What are they doing now that their queens are just in hiding and that allied with Hybern to be fae? Do they know?
25. Magical humans--fae blood sometimes trickle into human lines from that one fae whoever she is. Doubt she’s the only one. Probably will have magical humans, realistically.
26. Vassa--all of Vassa. Maybe Vassa and Mor.... You never know. I doubt they’ll get that curse reversed and she’ll be completely human, so maybe she’ll a be a shifter of a sort. If I can remember she’s like the only successful experiment. So maybe she got some fae blood and she can live for a long time and can be with Mor. I certainly hope Mor does not give up her immortality for her love interest, which I’m assuming you can do like in TOG.
27. The fae kingdoms, that conflict needs be somewhat resolved. Doubtful. There’s three main ones I think. No one’s been signing treaties. How? That is all.
28. Azriel powers, shadows, how did that happen? Does it elude to something bigger.
29. Cassian’s background. Who the hell is he? Will we know papa? Mama? Past? He’s the most powerful Illyrian commander, he can’t be normal. The laws of fiction dictate otherwise.
30. Last names? Middle names? Titles. Give me everything Sara.
31. Eris. After daddy is dead, what next? Is his conflict so small and easily taken care of. He is very interesting to me.
32. Did they actually take care of the cauldron? Miriam and Draken, will we see them again and their ideal world?
33. Will Nesta travel? Because she should. She deserves to, it was her plan in ACOTAR, but then she stayed, and now she’s a shell. Please have Nesta see the world. With Cassian or without. Don’t care. Maybe both.
34. How is a treaty going to be established, when humans hate fae, fae enslave humans, and the fact that there is so much more than fae that exist as we know????? Hmmm???
35. Oh Tamlin! Where he at? What he been doing? How will he help this conflict? Assuming he’s probably going to factor more in Lucien’s story, I’m almost positive he’s the next POV. It wouldn’t make sense otherwise to my fanfic writer/ obsessive reader brain.
36. The objective of different worlds. I know SJM probably won’t get into it too much and it would probably be very complicated, but other worlds. Are people still coming in? Do some want to leave? Is it easy to travel between them--provided you know how? *whispers* can Nesta do this?
37..... I don’t know. I will add more if I can think of any, because I probably can. Honestly this was like therapy and made me feel so much better than any of SJM’s lives about the future of this series.
38. ADD YOUR OWN; unless I wrote almost everything. But doubtful!

The rotting of Georgenotfound
You wanted an essay. Here it is.
This is an essay on mushroom George with the thought of the mushrooms growing out of him are because he’s dying inside.
For @marv3l-drag0ns and @denkilightning especially, thanks for the enthusiasm! I hope this makes sense
This is for the character of George no implication to George in his real life.
George lore as a character is a very good example of minimal structure meeting creative freedom meeting.
George lore has very little concrete lore that defines him as a character, some of it is given to us through other characters and the rest is given to us by personal interpretation due to the situations and circumstances we understand.
What we do know.
-George likes mushrooms, he’s cottage house was adapted into a mushroom cottage, and he’s apart of a mushroom themed kingdom.
-George has less than natural, and very abnormal sleep habits
-he misses his best friend
-he has trouble separating reality and Dream states.
-he used to be considered a powerful and loyal ally to anyone who sought him out. Dream didn’t seek him out technically but had wanted George help during the orginal wars and fights.
And Quackity had asked for George specifically as his running mate during the compaige days. George’s faith and loyalty to these people was never questioned or considered weak.
-the campaign days are also the last “real” event George remembers.
What has been created off these ideas
-George himself has started growing mushrooms off his body, weather due to an abnormal human heritage or magic
-George is cursed or his sleep is being manipulated by an outside power. (Usually Dream or DreamXD)
-he misses his best friend very much, with some added fear and guilt
- George has no way to distinguish between realities, he’s never actually been asleep, he doesn’t know what’s happening or what is truth vs what is made up.
-George has become the bitchboi of the dreamteam. Weakest in combat, weakest mentally and has never had real power, or was never a threat to anyone.
He has no sense of loyalty and is a selfish person to his roots. Only doing and thinking of his self value. Long term wise he’s only ever looked out for #1. And so is willing to sell anything for material gain.
-he can’t remember is real last awake memories.
While each in itself are their own essays, I’m gonna talk about the mushroom growing here.
As well as try to relate points in correlation with the mushroom growing.
Mushrooms are known as both cute and gorey. Pastel and gothic. These ideas can and do co-exist.
And so they are well reasoned to exist with George as a character. He does like mushrooms and has a personal preference for them on a strictly lore and fact base, and creativily the mushrooms are used to spice up George’s character design and overall inhance his character.
But the implications of mushrooms growing out of him have that duality of, cute and magic, and really dark and depressive reality.
Because mushrooms as an organism feed on dead or rotting cells. They can’t produce and metabolise their own nurturients. They need something to do it for them.
So mushrooms growing off of George’s body implies that they are feeding off him.and because they feed off dead or rotten cells it’s then implied that George has something dead or rotting inside him.
George’s life can be divided into two separate parts, two parts of the same timeline of George lore.
The first half could be counted as before the Election Day of L’manberg, and then the after the election as the second half.
Why are we worrying about how to time divide George’s life when we just started talking about mushrooms? Well it’s that we can relate George’s life, and himself as a garden with a tree in it.
During the first half of his life, the garden was in good health, it was well maintained and cared for, by George himself and others.
It was obviously well loved and well treated, and was a stable environment.
No mushrooms grew because nothing was dying.
This relates to his mental stability and overall general well-being as a person. People loved him without secondary motives, he was a trusted friend and a known loyal man and that wasn’t seen as a negative aspect.
However, after Election Day, it was a slow decrease in care and upkeep of the garden, there wasn’t an urgent need to make sure it was clean, happy and healthy because well it’s been healthy and happy for so long already that surely it doesn’t need constant attention.
However, to go from being loved so readily without a backhand meaning to being at the bottom of the priority list within such a short time had its consequences.
Added with the beginning of sleep troubles and reality identifing issues, a mushroom grew.
This is showcased literally with the mushroom house. A place to be isolated from others, a private area. A place he could allude to the excuse of not feeling invisible around others. With the added incentive that his best friend believed it to be his best interest. And George trusts his friend so why would there be anything wrong with it?
We’ve now entered the second half of the gardens life, George’s life. The slow negligence of the garden and its consequences.
See the things with trees is, despite looking undisturbed they’re very sensitive things, and changes in the environment no matter how small are felt, just not visualised quickly.
And so George’s outward showing of just not caring, and not appearing to have emotional empathy or understanding for others is that outward appearance of good health while the inner parts are sick and rotting.
And would you belive it? The inner dead and dying cells is exactly what mushrooms feed on.
An interesting relationship to look at with this now understanding, is DreamXD and George.
In this Metaphor George is the host, the tree, who due to lack of self care and care from others and negative changes in his life and environment has begun to die and rot on the inside while looking untouched and undisturbed.
These dying cells and rot, welcome the growth of fungi, mushrooms, DreamXD.
DreamXD as a mushroom could possibly be considered a parasitic type.
But could be disguised or try to appear like a non parasite but behaviour says otherwise.
George naturally tries to fight or deter this threat but it’s a battle, and without outside help or assistance the tree (he) can only last so long before the mushroom or fungi cause enough issues that George gives up and succumbs to DreamXD entirely.
But what changes in the environment, in the garden, in his life have allowed for George to welcome DreamXD?
-the mental stress due to his inability to distinguish real and fake. Weather it be subconscious or consciously George can recognise and unsafe atmosphere and people. And with the inability to understand what he’s recognising and inability to do anything about it is causing him to internally rot and fester.
-his long time best friend suddenly being gone from him without a goodbye. And then being told and shown that his friend wasn’t actually caring, wasn’t actually as atttached to him as George was. That everything he had faith and trust in was a ploy, ruse, an act.
-but also that loyalty inside him, that desire to trust and care for people despite everything that was only ever encouraged during the good half of his life, that begs and screams out that Dream cares about him.
Those two facts, are both reality. And yet they aren’t compatible.
Dream is a manipulator and will use everyone vs his hard loyalty in Dream and his love for his friend.
And when reality doesn’t add up? Something has to be wrong. Something has to fake. But which?
-his need for security and stability, secure memory. Stable relationships, his need for someone to help weed away at an overgrown garden because it’s a lot for one man to do alone. And nobody is just going to help him. Nobody does anything out of the good of their heart, cause it’s the right thing to do. Nobody wants to help the man who can’t recall when he last woke up, and can’t make dates.
George needs help but the dying cells are feeding a voice and an idea that he doesn’t, that he doesn’t need anyone, and that nothing wrong, but the natural instinct to fight is causing internal pain and strife.
The mushrooms are growing and no one is stopping them.

He's a poor little meow meow pirate that hates water and getting his feet wet. His tabaxi quirk is he knocks things off of tables when he's irritated. He's a disaster bisexual who will flirt with you and then get horribly embarrassed and run away. He once climbed up a 100 foot stone wall just using his claws, and then immediately beefed it trying to go up some stairs. He helped kill Strahd von Zarovich by poisoning him. The only reason he wears shoes is because his party makes him.

A Comprehensive Analysis of Eustass 'Captain' Kid
I've been wanting to write this for awhile now as Kid is undoubtedly one of my favourite characters in One Piece. Also, I'm majoring in Psychology so I can't help but think about why I love his character so much.
Disclaimer: As we all know, Kid doesn't have much screentime so it's quite difficult to understand his character completely. So, whatever you read will be my own intepretation of his character (based on the little amount of scenes that he has). Of course, you don't have to agree with it but it might give you a bit of a different perspective!
So, withour further ado, let's begin!
*P.s I'll try to make it flow in but it might end up really messy so I apologize for that*
Note: NOT SPOILER FREE!!!
1. Assumptions
I guess I'll begin with some of the common assumptions of his character based on posts/videos I've seen about his character. They frequently refer to Kid as 'cruel' or 'heartless'. Basically, there are many negative remarks about his character that makes him seem like a total psychopath.
Their reasoning for this would be because:
- He mentioned that he would kill anyone would mocked him
- His high bounty = He's notorious & violent
- The way he acts makes him come off as a bloodthirsty pirate
From another standpoint, I can see why people might think that way about him. The way he speaks and acts does make him look villainous. In addition, his primary role in One Piece is to be Luffy's rival. (I'll expand on this point later.) So, one might think that his morals would contrast Luffy. Whereas Luffy is the kind and benevolent pirate, Kid is the 'bad guy' who is cruel and heartless. The question is, though Kid is rival character, why does that necessarily mean that he would be a bad guy? I strongly disagree that Kid is a psychopath and that he is heartless. Firstly, the term 'psychopath' shouldn't be used so loosely. A true psychopath would have no regard for other's feelings which is not true of Kid because he cares very much for his crew. On the other hand, Doflamingo would be a good example of a psychopath. Next, even if Kid WERE a psychopath, not all psychopaths are violent. So it'd be nice if people stopped misrepresenting psychopaths.
Now, if there is one thing I learned in psychology, is that people tend to make assumptions about a person's actions as part of their personal dispositions rather than because of situation. This would be the Fundamental Attribution Error (FAE). What do I mean by this? Let's take a look at Kid's scenario. He mentioned killing people who mocked his dream. Killing people would make people automatically assume that Kid is 'violent'. But here is a different perspective, what if 'mocking him' had meant that they tried to start a fight with him? Provoking other people repeatedly would cause anybody to get angry. There are many other characters who acts this way as well. Sure, Luffy doesn't go as far as to kill them but I'm sure that many other characters do because they are PIRATES.
In contrast, I think of this situation as Kid standing up for himself. He believes in himself and he would beat anyone up who tells him otherwise. If you think about it, Luffy is kind of similar because he ends up fighting anyone who tries to stop him from attaining his goal.
That is pretty much all the assumptions that people make about his character. It's sad how they don't delve deeper but fret not!! I still have more to say.
2. Pre-Timeskip vs Timeskip Changes/Growth as a character
During Pre-timeskip, Kid is seen as overconfident. I actually agree with this statement quite a lot. His high bounty was a result of his reckless behaviour. He could easily triumph over anyone before the timeskip. That was when he started to become a little too full of himself. Consequently, he suffered heavy losses. His arm was taken by Shanks, his crew was utterly defeated by Kaido (curse you Apoo) and his reputation as the top supernova was instantly lost to Luffy. His true character development was in the Wano arc where we see how he starts to take a step back and re-evaluate his situation. The most obvious evidence for this was when he got captured in Udon. He was quiet (before Luffy's arrival) and deep in thought. So many things had happened to him, you could even argue that he was feeling slightly lost and helpless (not depressed) because he was utterly defeated. The motivation and drive he had in pre-timeskip was shattered- Until Luffy arrived of course. When Luffy arrived, he was battered and bruised but he was still ready to fight. Kid, who saw how Luffy still had his fighting spirit, was somehow inspired to keep on fighting. It's almost as if Luffy is Kid's drive to be stronger.
So, what does this all say about Kid?
I think that this makes his character believable as it can represent real life. There are some points in our lives where we could be the greatest but, sometimes, life can be pretty cruel too. If you get too cocky or overconfident, the world will punish you. I saw a comment that says Kid is Luffy but without the plot armour. That is very true. Kid isn't perfect. He made tons of crappy decisions and dealt which the consequences. I'd say he's as reckless as Luffy, perhaps LESS reckless than Luffy but he suffers more than Luffy does. While Luffy could bask in glory, all Kid got was the short end of the stick. I think that is the reason why I find Kid such an appealing character- because its an accurate representation of real life. Sometimes you can try as hard as someone else but you won't always get the spolight.
The other appealing aspect is his persistence. He made mistakes and bad decisions but he knows that he can't undo them and has to move on. Kid isn't as lucky as Luffy because he didn't have someone like Rayleigh to train him so, he had to put in more effort somehow. The main point is, he had to learn everything the hard way. Yet, he still strives to be the best which is very befitting of a rival character.
3. interactions & Personality
Another thing I frequently see when people Kid and Luffy is that: People say that while Kid makes enemies, Luffy makes allies which is why he has so much support from others around him. I was thinking about this a lot and I can't help but disgaree. I saw another post where they mentioned Kid's MBTI personality is INFJ which made me think even more about that statement. From here on, I will include several headcanons about his character as well.
Let me offer you a different perspective. Perhaps Kid isn't good at expressing his feelings. The way he speaks may come off as cold which makes other people dislike him because they think he is rude whereas he simply doesn't know how to communicate with others very well. Luffy is no doubt an extrovert, seeing how he is easily able to interact with others. Kid on the other hand, if he is an introvert, it could be an explaination to why he doesn't have many interactions with others. I don't see him as someone who's very 'sociable'. So he could experience some difficulty when communicating his feelings. He's shown to be closer to his crew more than anyone else. He is deeply respected by his crewmates because he is sensitive to their needs as well. He isn't the tyrant that everyone paints him to be, he earned that respect by first respecting his crewmates. Also, he would essentially DIE for any of his crewmates. This part is quite self explainatory if you've read the chapter where they revealed what happened to Kid and Killer in Wano.
I just want to add that while Killer suffered so much in Wano, imagine how much it hurt Kid to see his first mate suffer and how he couldn't do anything about it. The expression on his face is perfectly the anger he had towards Kaido, Apoo and more importantly, HIMSELF for not being strong enough. Yet, people call him heartless though he would literally die for Killer.
But anyways, Kid is an excellent listener and he cares very deeply for people he is close to. I just think he's bad at communicating. Look at the way he talks to Luffy. In Wano, you can see how Kid actually does LIKE Luffy as a rival. He just has trouble expressing himself. Anyways, this is just a headcanon but I think that he's rather sensitive to other's feelings- Especially when it comes to his crew. I really like the idea that he's an INFJ because he seems more like the 'advocate' type of character. I still think he makes a very good leader but his approach would contrast Luffy's.
4. Intelligence
I could probaly go on forever about why I love Kid but this is another thing that I see about Kid and kind of annoys me. I'm not sure why everyone seems to think he's a dumbass. Like REALLY. I think he's pretty intelligent. He even kept tabs on the whole SMILE situation and Doflamingo and planned the alliance. He IS intelligent but his recklessness just makes him seem like an idiot.
Kid isn't perfect, he is flawed just like a real human being would be. By no means is he a GOOD person but I don't think he is as 'cruel' or 'bad' as people paint him to be. He cares a lot for his crew. He is very driven by his own personal values and he wouldn't 'change' for anyone. He believes in himself and if anyone tells him otherwise, he would simply beat them up. He isn't happy go lucky like Luffy, he is much deeper than that. He would consider his options and plan- to a certain extent because he is also quite idealistic. Hence, the reason why I feel like his character is such an interesting one is because there is a lot of opportunity for him to grow and stray away from stereotypical anime character traits. His character is believable because his personality is realistic, it could reflect a real human being.
TLDR: Stop sleeping on Kid.
With that, thanks for coming to my ted talk.
Anyways, that's it for now! I'll make a part 2 if I feel like I want to add something. If people like this, I'll consider making another analysis for other characters. Currently I have Law, Ace and Sabo planned in mind but we'll see how it goes.
Thanks for reading!

(I sectioned all event into 3 'Seasons', so it wasn'tas much cramped together. This is part one to be clear.)
When Tommy joins the Smp, it is a very small server. Members are Dream, George, Sapnap, Alyssa and Ponk. Callahan and BadBoyHalo are also whitelisted, but don’t really play. That said, they’ve built the Community house, the nether area and a few other buildings and things and have had some scuffles with each other, such as burning down Ponk’s lemon tree.
Anyway, Tommy makes his humble home in the side of a hill as Tubbo, Fundy and Punz also join the server. Purpled joins too a couple days later. There’s some conflicts and things and Tommy finds two music discs, Mellohi and Cat.
=> So, you got the disc war, where Tommy (and Sapnap) was picking a fight with Dream, causing him to take the music discs from him as a punishment. Tommy was therefore trying to reacquire his music discs, Cat and Mellohi, back from Dream. This ended with them both safely inside his ender chest. During this little saga was also where Wilbur invited Dream to meet him in Brighton. Wilbur supposedly met up with both George and Dream though the promised Vlog never came out (and its since been revealed that he only met up with George).
=> Over the next little while, things were normal. Many towers and structures were built on the server. There were a few smaller conflicts, like Tommy accidentally killing Tubbo’s bee. I believe Eret joined the server over this time period. Jschlatt also got whitelisted onto the server, played for a few hours before being banned, likely due to the outcry on twitter (Dream claims it was unrelated but let’s not pretend that wasn’t a factor), Tommy loved the experience of playing with Jschlatt because he’s like his hero and highly values both the Cuck shed, which he built, and Blocks, the music disc he listened to with him.
=> Then Wilbur logged on again to play with Tommy. This time he wanted to do a Breaking Bad style drugs plot, building a caravan full of brewing stands. They then tried to acquire all the blaze rods from the other players. It ended up with them in Jail/on the run. Purpled, Punz and especially Sapnap were the ones who really interfered with them. Notably they all had Netherite armour while Wilbur and Tommy had much more basic gear.
=> This led to Wilbur’s greatest plan - to secede from the Dream SMP by creating a new server for all the European people. They soon came up with the name L’Manberg and began building the walls. Wilbur declared it a safe place with special server rules: no weapons or armour to be worn in L’Manberg. Tommy was keen to be his right-hand man (and he goes through a little arc during the L’Manberg war saga). They also all get new skins with revolutionary outfits and make a lot of Hamilton references. Tubbo and Eret both join the new nation. Dream declares war on them.
=> Fundy logs in inside the newly built walls of L’Manberg, beginning the story that he’s Wilbur’s son, the first citizen born in L’Manberg. There weren’t presently any women in their nation, so his mother is a Salmon from the river. It makes as much sense in context! Anyway, they build up the walls and late that night, Dream attacks, burning down trees, firing TNT cannons, creating an ugly cobblestone wall and burning down Tubbo’s old house. On Tommy’s next stream, Dream’s kind of busy with a serious stream at the same time but comes on to demand their surrender once more before blowing up Tommy’s base. No Mercy! War day comes, and it ends in defeat when Eret bought them to The Final Control room and betrays them. Tommy then demands a bow duel from Dream, betting a music disc for their independence. Tommy loses but offers both Cat and Mellohi in exchange for independence, which Dream accepts. Thus, despite their losses, they had a sort of victory as L’Manberg has been recognised as its own independent nation and they have peace.
=> In the Aftermath, some rebuilding is done. Niki and Jack Manifold both join the server and join L’Manberg - though Dream tries to tempt Jack away. Things begin to get back to normal though Tommy is still anxious to get his discs back. Quackity and later Karl Jacobs both join the server too. Oh, and Eret and Fundy engage in a bit of a prank war with each other, messing with each other’s builds in creative ways. Eret is now King of the Dream Smp - that was the price of his betrayal.
=> Then we get to a lot of interesting isolated incidents - a theatre where they performed some Hamilton and Macbeth, Dream trading away one of Tommy’s discs (Cat) to Skeppy, the railway war where Dream gets run over by a minecart on Tommy’s newly built railway and he takes Dream’s stuff and try to ransom a music disc back, Big Law (Tubbo) and the King’s court, Church Prime, where they build a holy land to ask for Twitch Primes, a conflict between Fundy and Punz - Fundy kidnapped his favourite bee. And, most critically, the Pet war.
=> The pet war is a bizarre conflict where everyone was rather hungry for another server war and a lot of shots got fired but things never quite escalated. Sapnap kills Nikki’s fox Fungi - (and one of Tommy’s cows) - Niki was furious. In retaliation, Tommy captured Beckerson and Mars from Sapnap’s house - two of the oldest pets in the server. Dream was ready to trade a disc for them back. It kinda ended with them scamming each other but Tommy got Mellohi back (and a fake) while keeping hold of Spirit (the remains of Dream’s old horse) while Dream got back his sword and both fish. Fundy was not done though. He wanted further revenge on Sapnap, so he and Niki killed one of his pets. Then Sapnap killed more animals and destroyed the grave they made for Fungi - it was quite a mess. Tommy was somehow in the position of playing mediator and trying to avert another war. Fundy eventually challenged Sapnap to a duel to settle things - he even builds an arena which referenced the Dream vs Technoblade duel.
=> Wilbur and Tommy come up with a new plan - they’re supposedly in charge of L’Manberg but they don’t have a lot of power as no one’s been listening to them while a Civil war’s been practically breaking out. Wilbur decides the problem is legitimacy and declares an election where he will run to become the elected President of L’Manberg - though he’s already incumbent. Their initial plan is to run as a single party, so victory is assured but Quackity declares this unfair and announces his own candidacy against them - Swag2020. George joins Quackity as his running mate. Wilbur and Tommy brand their campaign Pog2020. Wilbur explains that the viewers will get the chance to vote in this election. Fundy and Niki also decide to run as their own party, Coconut2020 - a twist given how Fundy was Wilbur’s son and yet he’s against them.
=> On the day voting begins, Tommy and Wilbur first get Vikkstar to endorse them and then Schlatt - who they got unbanned for the occasion - but Schlatt refuses to support them, declaring Democracy a fraud. He runs against them too - as Schlatt2020. Quackity and Schlatt also form a coalition, pooling their votes together. (Hbomb also joins the server). In the end, this coalition narrowly wins by 46% to 45% and Schlatt becomes President. His first act is to banish Wilbur and Tommy - and he orders Tubbo to hunt them down.
=> It’s chaos. The walls of L’Manberg get destroyed, as do various other builds. Schlatt speaks of expanding, taking over the entire SMP server and changes the name to Manburg. Out with the old! Niki opposes, Eret is keen to redeem himself and wants to help Wilbur and Tommy while Fundy burns down the L’Manberg flag. Deep in the woods, Wilbur and Tommy hide, having lost everything and not sure who they can trust. They accept help from Technoblade and the three of them form an underground resistance, Pogtopia, to overthrow the new Government, with Tubbo working as a spy for them.
=> The server is divided. Dream decides to support Tommy, at first quietly offering him tons of resources to help. When Sapnap kills yet another animal (how?!) Tommy’s precious cow Henry, Tommy is sad/enraged and does some grieving which leads him into a little war against Sapnap, BadboyHalo, Skeppy and Antfrost (who rather recently joined the server). So, Dream decides to more vocally help Tommy out as an ally of Pogtopia, fighting the others, along with Technoblade (and Punz too). Dream even gives Tommy an important fish - Mars. Tommy’s side wins the battle.
=> Schlatt decides to organise a festival in Manburg. Wilbur questions whether he and Tommy are doing the right thing and decides to embrace being a villain with some destruction. He plans to blow up Manburg, aided by Dream. Tommy intends to stop him.
=> At the festival, Tubbo is outed as a Pogtopia spy and Schlatt orders Technoblade to execute him. He does, albeit reluctantly, and then kills most of the audience too with his firework crossbow. Tommy is enraged, feeling like Techno’s betrayed him. Nikki’s furious with Schlatt’s actions and joins Pogtopia.
=> After the festival, Quackity also leaves Schlatt after an argument where he points out how messed up everything is and how little he’s respected. Tommy finds him and they ally. Wilbur goes to blow up Manburg but Tommy and Quackity come with him and carefully talk him down. Wilbur relents and agrees to follow Tommy as they all plan for a way to defeat Schlatt once and for all.
=> Quackity’s plan to oust Schlatt fails. So, Wilbur tries to blow up Manburg and this too fails as Schlatt has secretly removed the TNT he planted. They retreat to Pogtopia where Fundy reveals he’s secretly been a spy this whole time and has secretly recorded Schlatt’s weaknesses. Wilbur, suddenly realising that the rest of the server is on their side, regains confidence to take down Schlatt the right way.
=>Then Dream appears. He declares his support for Schlatt and reveals that there’s a traitor in Pogtopia’s ranks. The last person they’d expect. Another war is approaching. If things go badly, Wilbur intends to blow it up. Tommy wants to stop Wilbur and win everything back.
=>The war does not go well. Schlatt is cornered - but then he dies of a heart attack while everyone just watches. Wilbur declares it a victory and announces Tommy as President. Tommy refuses the honour. So, Wilbur appoints Tubbo, who accepts.
=>Techno is enraged at their formation of a new Governmentand shoots Tubbo. Wilbur, meanwhile, runs away and denotates the TNT in the presence of Philza - who just joined. Techno then sets off a pair of Withers, aided by Dream. The newly renamed L’Manberg is all blown up.
=>The withers are defeated. Philza kills Wilbur. Tommy affirms that Tubbo is still the president as they go listen to a music disc together, and they plan to rebuild everything despite Techno being out there - now their greatest adversary.
THIS INCLUDES ALL EVENTS UP TO THE 18th OF DECEMBER 2020

Hey guys! POTC AU update time at last! Very sorry for the delay, but s*** is really going down now in this story...
One of my biggest criticisms for the climax of At World’s End is how, ultimately, both the Navy’s armada and all of the diverse pirates gathered together as part of the Brethren Court are ultimately pointless. We get our huge confrontation between the Flying Dutchman and the Black Pearl, which ends with both ships blowing up Beckett’s flagship...and then the Navy just hightails it away with their tails between their legs, even if they still outmatch the pirates and there would surely be a chain of command under Beckett that could take over. There isn’t even anything to show that the Navy lost their nerve after losing their “great leader” or anything or were reluctant to fight to begin with. And again, that ends up making the non-main-character pirates that we only just met in At World’s End, like the Pirate Lords, completely unnecessary to the narrative aside from giving up their Pieces of Eight, which easily could’ve been rewritten to not include the Pirate Lords. This is why I’m restructuring this climax so that all of the Lords (and the Keeper of the Code) have a role in the coming battle, rather than just having them stand on the sidelines.
Black powder is a much messier, more combustible precursor to modern gunpowder, which has a very strong odor and produces a lot of smoke when it explodes. It’s better used for things like fireworks and rockets than firearms, particularly since it’s even more vulnerable to moisture than regular gunpowder is. Black powder was first developed in China circa the 9th century, before its use in firearms was phased out in favor of the cleaner, safer gunpowder we know today.
Although the traditional “Redcoat” was developed as a uniform for British soldiers in the mid-1600s, the British Navy actually didn’t have official uniforms for its sailors until 1748. Before that point, only naval officers generally wore uniforms. My guess about why the Pirates films don’t follow this model and have even the lower-rank British Naval soldiers wear uniforms in AWE is for the sake of visual short-hand for the audience and to further accent the divide between the uniformity of the law-keepers (the army and Navy) VS the diversity of the law-breakers (the pirates).

When Jules, Jacob, and Orion returned, they immediately convened a war council with the other Pirate Lords and their crews in the Hall of the Codex. There was a lot of strategizing that needed to be done before the battle the following day -- and as to be expected, Murphy McNully was instrumental in pinpointing what they needed.
“According to the Admiral’s intelligence, there are 34 Man O’ Wars out there waiting for us. We ourselves have a fleet of 73 galleons, brigs, schooners, sloops, and ketches. Now, naturally, that sounds like a lot, but keep in mind that each of the Navy’s Man O’ Wars has anywhere between 50 to 100 guns on each ship...meaning they have between 1700 and 3400 guns altogether. Even if we technically could have more guns numerically, there’s a 97.9% chance that our ships wouldn’t be able to withstand a full-frontal assault by those things. If we tried, we’d basically have to sacrifice our lives in the hundreds just to deal any damage, and even then, there’s less than a one percent chance that we could actually defeat the Navy, doing that.”
“It’d be a pyrrhic victory, at best,” said Ellie sadly.
Jae nodded. “I doubt any of us are much in the mood for a suicide mission, so we’ll need to come up with something better.”
“Especially since Carey’s on board one of those ships,” said Bill solemnly. “We can’t let him get hurt.”
Charlie, Jules, Jacob, and Orion’s eyes all narrowed at this. While Charlie and Jules nodded in agreement, Jacob’s jaw clenched and Orion clasped his hands in his lap and closed his eyes.
Ashe brought a hand up to squeeze Jacob’s shoulder, resting his head absently on top of his.
“Speaking from my own experience,” he said very dryly, “brute strength is hardly a be-all-end-all. Obviously one should think twice before attacking a larger enemy...but sometimes the element of surprise can turn the tide. Larger enemies often assume they have less to fear.”
“Aye...” said Jacob softly.
He considered the makeshift map and model ships they’d set up on the stained round table. Then he reached out to pick one of the miniature ketches and consider it carefully.
"We don’t have the firepower to defeat the Navy,” he said to the others, “but we do have stealth on our side.”
He immediately set about maneuvering the pieces around on the map, grouping all of the smaller ones together.
“The first thing we need is for a fleet made of the smaller ships -- the schooners, sloops, and ketches -- to carefully infiltrate the Man O’ Wars. Send a few of our men onto each ship in disguise, so they can load their lower decks with unlit explosives.”
“They could also easily sabotage their cannons and rudder chains, while they’re there,” said Orion softly.
Jacob shot a halfhearted glare at Orion out the side of his eye. Clearly even if they were allies and Orion brought up a great point, the Pirate Lord of the Atlantic Ocean was still a bit resentful about the Lord of the Caribbean Sea’s relationship with his sister.
“...Right. Then I say we -- meaning you, Captain Farrier-Weasley, as the Pirate King -- warn Beckett and the Navy that we’ll release Calypso, if they don’t turn back and let us leave Shipwreck Cove in peace. With Jones being with them, Beckett and the Navy either should already know or will immediately find out just how dangerous that is. Make sure to bluff Beckett that Calypso has so much power that she could destroy a Man O’ War with her little pinky, if she wanted.”
Samantha’s face lit up as she caught on to Jacob’s idea. “Oh! Then once Calypso is free and the weather starts getting bad...we can have the galleons and brigs attack the Man O’ Wars -- ”
“ -- and we can blow up the explosives on board with our cannons!” finished Charlie, exchanging an excited grin with Samantha.
Merula’s face burst into an huge smile too. “And it’ll make it look to the Navy like Calypso has given us this supernatural power boost!”
“Brilliant!” said Bill.
“There’d still be a 34% chance we’ll lose a few ships doing that,” said McNully thoughtfully, “but even if we’ll be outgunned and out-manned, the Man O’ Wars should be sabotaged enough that they won’t be able to attack right away. And the explosions we’d get would no doubt give those Navy officers a good scare, which might discourage them from fighting.”
Jacob nodded. “That fleet of larger ships can then keep the Man O’ Wars busy while Captain Farrier-Weasley and I sail the Revolution out to confront the Flying Dutchman. The Revolution’s probably the only ship we have that’s fast enough to compete with the Dutchman in a sea battle.”
“And we’ll need to overpower Jones, if we want to get close enough to Beckett,” said Jules, her dark eyes hard with determination.
“Jones is the Queen in this chess match,” agreed McNully. “He’s the most powerful piece on the board, so if we can topple him, we’ll have a much better chance. If we can then corner the King -- namely, Beckett -- we could use that leverage to win the whole thing.”
Bill and Charlie exchanged a look. Then the elder Weasley spoke up.
“...The plan’s great, Jacob -- but there’s a problem. Captain Hopper said that most of you lot were never soldiers. There’s a lot of training that you have to go through before going out to sea with the British Navy, and there’s just as much protocol you have to follow while you’re there. If one of our men makes a wrong move and gets caught, it could blow the whole ruse.”
“Then maybe we should go, Bill,” said Charlie. “We know the way things work -- we’d be able to blend in -- ”
“Not with that hair, you won’t,” said Merula dully.
“Face Paint is here at the Cove,” pointed out Skye. “They could fix that -- ”
Orion shook his head. “I’m afraid it’s still too risky. The Admiral indicated that Percy Weasley is also on board one of those ships. As much as I don’t think he’d ever wish to harm you, I don’t believe one could fool one’s family that long. And judging by how your last meeting ended,” he glanced at Charlie and Bill solemnly, “one cannot be certain he would choose family loyalty over what he believes is morally right.”
“Yeah, I wager there’s only a 35% chance he wouldn’t try to stop you two, if he saw you,” said McNully with an apologetic look at the Weasley brothers. “Though there is a 25% chance you might collide with Carey Weasley instead, and he could give you a hand...but I don’t think that’s a gamble we should take.”
Ellie’s lips twisted into a frown. “Still...First Mate Weasley’s got a point. It’d be probably best to send someone with the Artemis and the other small ships who already knows how to fit in with the British Navy.”
“If only Captain Moody were still here,” mumbled Barnaby sadly. “He was in the Navy for a long time, before becoming our captain...”
Charlie offered Barnaby a sympathetic look. Jae, however, looked rather thoughtful.
“...I do have...one contact that could be helpful.”
Everyone turned to look at him.
“He’s a bit of a loose cannon,” said Jae, “too impulsive for his own good and bull-headed as all Hell...kind of stupid, really. But he was in the Navy once, and he’s pretty good at working in secrecy. I work with him most often whenever there’s news of the East India Trading Company, since he’s got a contact who’s related to one of their most prominent merchants...”
Merula’s eyebrows furrowed. “...Wait a minute. You’re not suggesting Copper?”
Charlie and Jules both blinked.
“Behemoth Ben Copper?” said Jules in surprise. “The pirate who took out all three masts on an Italian frigate with one cannonball?”
“That’d be him,” said Arjun, and like Merula, he looked a bit skeptical. “Jae, I’m not sure. I don’t mean anything against Ben and all, but...well...it’s like you said, he’s a bit of a loose cannon. Ever since he mutinied against his captain, he’s just gotten more and more reckless -- leaving his crew abruptly with no explanation, rearranging his ship’s route on the fly...”
“He’s been acting weird,” agreed Aishwarya.
“Sounds like he’s the perfect choice, then!”
Everyone turned to look at Skye in bewilderment. Contrary to everyone else’s reactions, however, she looked perfectly undaunted, her lips curled up in a perfectly fearless, white smirk.
“From the sound of things, I’d wager Copper’s caught the same type of ‘weird’ that Orion’s had these last few months,” said Skye, shooting a significant look in her captain’s direction.
“And I reckon that kind of ‘weird’ would boost Copper’s motivation to help us by a good 63%,” said McNully very coolly from Orion’s other side.
Orion tried to feign a mild, patient expression as he bowed his head and avoided his crewmates’ amused looks, but he could not obscure the rosy color that was rising up into his cheeks.
“That settles it, then,” said Bill. “Let’s talk to him.”
Benjamin “Behemoth Ben” Copper did indeed boast an impressive height, being as tall as Bill with a scruffy blond beard almost as long as Jacob’s, a piece cut out of his left ear, and plenty of scars up and down his arms and along the base of his neck. He also came across as rather unpleasant, on first meeting. Although Jules had decided Orion and the Artemis would lead this smaller fleet in their mission, Ben seemed very skeptical of Orion from the off-set and was a bit forceful in trying to assert himself.
“For this mission, may us look to our friends, the cuttlefish, for guidance,” Orion said calmly as he addressed the small team of Navy veteran pirates they’d managed to assemble. “They change their appearance and attitude to blend into their environment, so as to evade the dangerous predators that might hunt them...and so too shall we.”
“The Navy isn’t that dangerous,” said Ben rather coldly.
Everyone turned to look at the much taller man, who was leaning against the back wall with his arms crossed.
Orion regarded him with patience, his hands clasping in front of him. “Not as dangerous as they’d like us to believe, true...but they do still out-gun us quite a bit.”
“That’d be more of a threat if half their new recruits weren’t so scared of the sound of gunfire that they all shut their eyes and can’t aim properly,” said Ben. “It’s not like most of those men have even seen combat like this, since England’s no longer at War.”
Orion didn’t respond, so Ben got up off the wall and strode over to look at him properly.
“Explain to me why we don’t just take down all of the ships ourselves, once we’re on board? We can more than take those lily-livered cowards...”
“We’re not doing that because it’s not the plan we agreed on, Copper,” Skye snapped.
“Skye,” Orion said in a quelling voice without removing his gaze from Ben.
“They’d never expect anyone to actually try attacking them head-on, so the element of surprise will still be there,” Ben plowed on, his brown eyes flashing with righteousness. “I say we just take all of their sailors out, one by one, while that pig Cutler Beckett is too busy gloating to take notice.”
Orion raised his eyebrows. “‘Take them out?’ Oh, no. No, I’m afraid that won’t do.”
“You’re afraid of the ships and their firepower -- but the men on those ships are vulnerable,” Ben said sharply.
“All the more reason to not hurt them more than we have to,” said Orion. “If the Navy’s ships are damaged, most of the sailors on board will still have the time to abandon ship and leave the battle with their lives.”
“Those sailors mean to kill us -- to arrest and hang the ones we love and anyone who’s ever helped us -- ”
“Not all of them,” said Orion, and his patient voice for the first time dipped low into his throat and echoed with some edge. “And because not all of them seek to destroy us and the ones we love, we have more than enough reason to not destroy them ourselves. The ships are what we fear, as you said -- they are our enemy, not the men on board -- and without that weapon of theirs, those sailors will be unable to inflict the damage we fear.”
Ben’s brown eyes bore into Orion’s very critically. Then, exhaling through his nose in a short huff, he reluctantly nodded and stepped back.
Orion turned to Face Paint. “We’ll need to make sure all of our men look like they belong among the Navy’s ranks.”
Face Paint grinned. “Don’t worry! I’ve got this.”
With some guidance from the ex-veterans on the Navy’s usual dress code, Face Paint got to work covering up scars with make-up and dressing the team accordingly. Fortunately, unlike the British army, Navy soldiers generally had more freedom in how they dressed, so long as their clothes were neat and conservative. Once Face Paint was finished, Orion had a team of about eleven men who looked as out of place on Shipwreck Cove as he himself had looked on the streets of Port Royal.
Before Orion left with the Artemis and the rest of the fleet of small ships, however, Jacob rather sharply stepped in front of him and insisted on speaking to him in private. Skye and McNully looked notably concerned, but Orion agreed, and the two stepped aside so no one else could hear them.
“Don’t think I don’t know why you’re doing this,” Jacob murmured.
Orion raised his eyebrows, even though his expression remained grimly unreadable. “It was your plan, to send the smaller ships to infiltrate the Navy’s Man O’ Wars.”
“I was not including you when I said that!” snapped Jacob.
He took an aggressive step forward, right into Orion’s personal bubble.
“I know why you’re doing it, Amari, and it’s not just because Captain Farrier-Weasley asked you to be in charge of that mission,” he said in a very low snarl, rather like that of a territorial dog.
Orion’s eyes grew a little smaller, but remained too murky to read properly. “I daresay my reasoning is the same as why you arranged it so that you would be on the ship facing off against the Flying Dutchman.”
“Do not compare my motives with yours!” said Jacob fiercely, as his skull-like eyes flared like flames. “I don’t care what you feel for my Wyn -- you could never understand what she means to me! I would and will do anything I have to in order to protect her -- ”
“I know,” Orion cut Jacob off as calmly as he could. “I could never understand the bond you two share.”
His dark eyes flickered with a strange emotion.
“...But...I do understand what a beacon she is -- how, like a candle, she can light up a room enough to comfort you, when you’re most frightened. How the soft, warm light she gives off is for you alone...how the embers she leaves behind burn long after her light has left you. How she’ll...drain herself of whatever strength she has...just to make sure you don’t despair.”
Something cracked in Jacob’s eyes, betraying genuine vulnerability. A vein pulsed in his jaw and his hands clenched into fists at his sides.
Orion clasped his hands in front of him, regarding Jacob with a grim, sad expression.
“Care --...your sister...is a truly remarkable woman. She always has been, from the day I ended up on your doorstep back in Port Royal all those years ago. I can’t say for sure that I’ve loved her since then, but...when we found each other again, I realized that the freedom I have on the high seas is superficial at best...for I wasn’t free to stay with her...no more than she’s free to follow me. If she stays with Cutler Beckett...if she ends up impressed into service on the Flying Dutchman...”
Jacob’s fists clenched tighter and started to shake. Orion’s eyes rippled with pain and anxiety as he closed them.
“I can’t do nothing while Carewyn loses what little freedom she has left,” the taller captain burst out before he could stop himself. “However cruel Jones is in the legends I’ve heard, I know first-hand Cutler Beckett is a crueler master than he could ever be.”
He ran his pointer and middle finger alongside the inside of his wrist, where the “P” brand shone a tense white on his tanned skin. He breathed in and out through his nose slowly to try to calm his heart rate, before he opened his eyes to look back at Jacob.
“...I know our methods are different, but our goal is the same. Although I hope you succeed in overcoming Jones and force him to release her...I’m sure you understand why I have to take measures in case you don’t.”
Jacob’s eyes narrowed upon Orion’s face, but for the first time, there was confusion muddled with the distrust.
“I already told you that Jones won’t care if my Wyn gets married and takes on another name,” he said quietly. “He said she’d still be considered a Cromwell.”
Orion’s dark eyes softened sadly. “I know.”
Jacob’s eyes scrunched up further. Then they widened as he thought of something he hadn’t before. The thought made his face go very white.
“You...”
Orion did not respond, but Jacob knew he’d figured out what Orion was thinking. It made his fists shake at his sides and his pupils narrow to slits.
‘He’s...truly that selfless?’
Jacob didn’t want to believe it. He couldn’t believe that this man loved his sister that much.
Despite himself, he couldn’t help but lash out.
“...I do not give my blessing to this! I don’t care what sincere affect you dance around with, I will never trust you with my Wyn’s heart, Amari! You could never deserve my sister!”
But Orion’s features merely prickled with the hints of a smile. "I know.”
Jacob gave an aggravated sigh, throwing his hand up in a violent smack at the air, as he threw his head back and rolled his eyes up in the direction of the ceiling.
He wanted to hate this man so much, but it was proving difficult when he wouldn’t rise to anything he said. He wanted him to fight back, to get mad -- then he could feel justified in protecting Carewyn from him...
But in truth, Jacob knew -- this man wasn’t someone to protect Carewyn from. Truthfully...he knew this man would likely do just as much to protect Carewyn as he would...
Jacob’s hollowed-out eyes ran over Orion’s face, narrowing critically. Then, at last, he said,
“...You were the boy, weren’t you? The one Wyn hid under her floorboards.”
Orion’s eyes flickered with fondness and he inclined his head in a small nod. Jacob inhaled slowly through his nose and then exhaled very heavily.
“I will stop Jones,” he said very lowly. “So your 'measures’ won’t be necessary.”
With this, Carewyn’s brother turned on his heel and strode away, his black boots clapping against the cobblestones as he went.
As the pirates set their plan into motion, Carewyn herself was finishing up business on the Flying Dutchman. She was meant to remain on the HMS Lion with Beckett for the battle, but she insisted on speaking to all of her men on the ship and leaving proper instruction before departing. After all, the Admiral argued, even if Rakepick was staying on board, she was not a Naval officer, nor was she their commanding officer. It also was the excuse Carewyn needed to speak to Davy Jones privately.
Jones looked to be in a fairer mood than she’d seen him last. Carewyn wasn’t sure for the reason for it, but she hoped it wasn’t in response to the impending battle. Regardless of how Jones felt about the pirates and Shipwreck Cove, she dreaded the thought of anyone actually anticipating the battle. Instead, however, she reassured Jones that she would pass along whatever intelligence she gathered about where Rakepick had hidden his heart.
“I know Rakepick said she was out for herself, but there are only so many places she could’ve hidden it,” she said. “Port Royal is out of the question: it couldn’t be used as any sort of leverage there. So she either one, was lying and has it close by somewhere on the Dutchman...or two, Beckett does know where it is, but Rakepick plans to backstab him.”
“I suspect the former,” said Jones lowly, his dark eyes narrowing as he shot a glance out the stained-glass window of the cabin. “I can feel my heart’s presence, so it must be close.”
Carewyn inclined her head slightly. “I see. In that case, you might be able to retrieve it yourself. I’m sorry I can’t be of further help.”
She paused. Then, taking a deep breath, she spoke again.
“Captain Jones, time is not on our side...but something’s been bothering me. When I first agreed to help you, you knew my real name, without me having told you. You said that was because you know everyone’s true name, but...”
She considered him warily.
“...It’s also because...you know my older brother...don’t you?”
Jones’s eyes narrowed. He considered her for a long moment, before he gave a clipped nod.
“...Aye. I know him.”
Carewyn’s heart sank. ‘Then Rakepick was right -- Jacob did make a deal with Jones. That must be why Orion said Jacob ‘would be disappointed’ -- ’
“...What does he owe you?”
Jones, for the first time, looked almost evasive. He turned away, casting his eyes to the opposite wall as he took a few plodding steps away.
Carewyn watched him move, her arms which had been folded behind her back slackening at her sides.
“Captain Jones, please,” she said, and some desperation echoed in her voice despite her best efforts, “I already might not have enough power to protect him from Beckett, I have to know what debt he might have with you.”
Jones was quiet for a moment longer. When he finally spoke again, his voice was very low, reluctant...even regretful.
“...The price...was a lifetime of service, from a member of his family.”
Carewyn’s eyes widened.
‘A lifetime of service...?’
Jacob’s intense, anxious reaction to the death of Charles and Blaise suddenly made sense.
‘He must’ve meant to give one of them to Jones,’ Carewyn’s mind raced. ‘Could he really have agreed to something like that -- enslave Grandfather or Blaise to Jones?’
Unfortunately it didn’t sound completely out-of-character for Jacob -- for as much as she’d hated Charles Cromwell and resented Blaise, Carewyn knew her feelings paled in the face of Jacob’s. Not only had he been older and thus forced to do more of their dirty work, but he’d also always loathed how much they hurt Carewyn when they were young, both to keep him in line and in a cruel attempt to “toughen her up.”
But now...now Blaise and Charles were dead. All of the Cromwells -- Jacob’s family -- were dead...except for...
Carewyn’s face was very white. Her lips came together and she bowed her head, casting her eyes into shadow.
“...I see,” she whispered, her voice shakier than she’d intended.
‘This is why Orion and Jacob want me off the Dutchman. Because I’m the only one who can fill Jacob’s debt.’
Jones glanced over his shoulder, his dark eye oddly ashamed.
“He did it out of love for you,” he said very quietly. “I confess, before we met, I’d seen irony in the situation. Now...I wish I could excuse the debt, but...”
Jones swallowed, and the tentacles of his beard gave a series of low pops.
“...Magical contracts...are not so easily broken. Once someone is marked with the Black Spot, the terms will be met, whether I want them to be or not. Fate will maneuver itself in such a way that you end up as part of my crew, even if I actively decide not to take you. As long as your brother and I both live...the terms are etched in stone.”
Jones then strode back over, fixing Carewyn with a solemn eye.
“Unless...you wanted to make a deal yourself? One soul could be comparable to another.”
Carewyn closed her eyes and considered this. After a long moment, she swallowed, and shook her head.
“That’s not something I can give you,” she whispered.
Jones’s eyes grew a little smaller as he faced the door. “I thought you might say that.”
He paused. His claw clicked together at his side.
“I...lament that a noble soul like yours is doomed to remain with me,” he murmured. “I will do my best to take care of you, as part of my crew.”
With another set of plodding steps, Jones walked over to the door of the cabin, opened it, and left.
Carewyn’s knees buckled out from under her. She collapsed onto the bench in front of the massive organ, staring down at her own booted feet without even seeing them.
She couldn’t thrust this burden on anyone else. How could she? No matter who they were...no one deserved to live their life in servitude. Carewyn knew she would never be able to live with herself, doing something so cruel...but...
It...it wasn’t fair! It wasn’t fair! She’d already had to resign herself to the knowledge that she couldn’t shield the others from Beckett -- she’d already had to resign herself to staying under Beckett’s foot. Not only was she helpless in helping the ones she loved escape Beckett...but now...once she was a member of Jones’s crew...she would likely never see any of them again. She’d never be able to make that world that they deserved -- a world where they could live free of the fear of being captured and hanged...a world where they could live and chase their dreams in peace.
She’d never see Orion again. She’d never see Jacob again. She’d never see Bill again. She’d never see Charlie again. She’d never see Jules or Percy again.
Carewyn took a sharp intake of breath, trying to contain her emotions, but it was no use. Her hands flew to her face, clutching desperately, as she tried in vain to suffocate the tears spilling out of her eyes and the sobs erupting out of her throat.
Little did Carewyn know that a red-haired woman much taller than her had been beside the window of the captain’s cabin and had heard the entire conversation.
Under the cover of the fog that  swept in that night, Orion’s team of Navy veteran pirates split up and stowed away aboard the Navy’s ships, each carrying one of the hundred black barrels of highly explosive black powder Jae had prepared for them. They would then be able to fetch more from one of the many sloops, ketches, and schooners floating among the armada the rest of the night.
As luck would have it, Ben boarded a ship that turned out to be the HMS Lion itself. He was glad of it, as he was determined to make sure that Beckett could never target anyone else again. Unfortunately, as soon as Ben arrived on board the ship, he was immediately uneasy. No one had spotted him arrive, but this ship wasn’t like any of the ships he’d seen during his time with the Navy. Everything was so unusually clean and precise and brand new, as if none of it had been touched -- and stranger still, all of the sailors, from their perfectly polished gold-buckled shoes to their blue and white uniforms to their gold-trimmed black tricorn hats, looked as identical as a set of dolls.
Little did Ben know that Cutler Beckett had higher standards of uniformity for the ship he was on than he did any of the other ships in his armada -- and so, even perfectly disguised as an ordinary sailor, Ben stood out like a sore thumb.
“You there!” said one of the lieutenants, upon spotting Ben on the staircase down to the lower decks. “Where’s your uniform, sailor?”
Ben faltered. ‘Uniform? Regular sailors don’t wear -- ’
He immediately put down the barrel he’d been carrying and turned around, putting on his strongest face as he stood up perfectly straight and saluted.
“...I’m only a new recruit, sir. I have no rank.”
“All sailors on the HMS Lion were given a custom uniform, when first they were selected by Lord Beckett,” snapped the lieutenant, his black eyes narrowing suspiciously upon the much taller man. “I ask you again -- where is yours?”
Ben immediately guessed that he’d made a huge mistake. Knowing that if he didn’t do something drastic, he’d blow the whole operation, his hand slid down to the pistol in his belt. Did he dare silence the man by force? Would that not alert the rest of the ship?
“What’s going on here?”
Another officer -- this one with a ginger red ponytail and almond-shaped blue eyes -- came down from the helm and over to the two men.
“A-Admiral Weasley!” said the lieutenant, straightening up immediately.
‘Admiral?’ thought Ben. ‘Then this is Carey Weasley?’
His brown eyes narrowed upon the frame of the Navy’s greatest hero.
'...He’s so...tiny.’
Carewyn looked from the lieutenant to Ben, her blue eyes narrowing.
“Ah, I suppose Captain Weasley’s sent over another new recruit,” she said smoothly. “Where is this man’s uniform, Lieutenant?”
“That -- I just asked that, sir,” the lieutenant stumbled over his words.
“Respectfully, I hope,” said Carewyn rather pointedly.
“That -- well -- I merely thought it was suspicious. We normally are all given uniforms, prior to boarding -- I hadn’t known that Captain Weasley was sending over any...”
The lieutenant looked a bit sheepish. It was remarkable how he looked and sounded so much more boyish around the Admiral, compared to how harsh and suspicious he’d sounded when he addressed Ben.
“No matter, Lieutenant,” said Carewyn, giving the young man a soft smile. “You thought of the safety of our ship and crew. That’s the right instinct to have, despite the circumstances.”
She turned to Ben, her eyes becoming a bit more solemn.
“What’s your name, sailor?”
“Cooper, sir,” Ben said at once, giving a salute. “Gordon Cooper.”
“Well, Mr. Cooper, you’d best come with me, before Lord Beckett sees you out of uniform. He likes his flag ship run just so.”
And so Ben reluctantly followed the Admiral down to the ship’s lower level and into the cargo hold. She fetched him a blue and white Navy uniform, but rather than just leaving Ben to put it on himself, she insisted on helping him put it on properly.
“I told you, Lord Beckett likes things just so,” she said. “I will not have any sailor under my command end up on the wrong side of him.”
“I can put on a bloody shirt,” Ben said before he could stop himself.
“See that you do, then,” said Carewyn very coolly.
Ben watched, perfectly bewildered, as the Admiral hung the blue coat she’d set aside for him off of a nail sticking out of one of the beams of the ship and smoothed the wrinkles out of it.
With a dull snort, he pulled the faded red shirt and brown trousers Face Paint had dressed him in up over his head and switched it out for the white Navy breeches, stockings, and shirt he’d been given. He tried to keep his back to Carewyn, so as to obscure the scars on his upper chest and arms.
As he changed, Ben suddenly realized he heard a soft, husky voice humming a tune in the back of their throat.
“Now some have died, and some are alive...and others...sail on the sea...”
Ben straightened up sharply.
“...With the keys to the cage and the Devil to pay,” he echoed, “we lay to Fiddler’s Green.”
He turned around to look at Carewyn, who still had her back to him.
“So you are allied with us,” he said under his breath.
Carewyn glanced over her shoulder, raising an eyebrow. “‘So?’ You sound like someone already told you that, previously.”
“Two people, actually,” Ben corrected her, crossing his arms. “Orion Amari, for one. The other...”
He glanced off to the side absently, his brown eyes growing a bit mistier at the thought.
“...She...has family who works for the East India Trading Company. While one of their ships was docked in Port Royal, she’d spoken to some of the prisoners awaiting execution...and though most of them were no state to talk, the ones who were expressed their admiration for Carey Weasley -- how he was the only person on the Dutchman who showed them any kindness.”
The thought of Wendy’s face as she described what the prisoners had told her made Ben’s heart clench.
“...That kind of decency...was something I thought the Navy lost long ago.”
Carewyn’s eyes grew a little smaller and grimmer as they fell down onto Ben’s shoulder.
“I’m afraid it has, for the most part,” she said softly, “but only because of those currently in command. Our men are still good men...just misguided.”
Ben couldn’t keep the disbelieving, resentful glare from his face. He strode past Carewyn to fetch the blue coat, but the Admiral bustled in front of him, fetched a gold-buttoned white vest, and set about slipping it over Ben’s shirt.
“Here -- you’ll need this, first.”
Ben’s mouth dropped open in bewilderment and irritation.
“Wha -- oh, come on, I’m not some little lost lamb!”
“Definitely not,” said Carewyn dryly. “You’re anything but ‘little.’“
She started buttoning up Ben’s vest. The pirate gave an aggravated groan.
“Seriously? Ugh...will you knock it off? You’re acting like my mother -- ”
“Well, you’re acting like a child, so I reckon that’s appropriate,” Carewyn shot back. She then added a bit more solemnly, “Look, I can’t help Orion, Bill, and the others while I’m stuck here...but I can help you help them. So that’s what I intend to do, whether you like it or not.”
Ben’s face darkened with an embarrassed flush as he looked away, shooting daggers into the far corner with his eyes, while Carewyn finished buttoning up his vest.
“I should probably help you trim your beard too,” said Carewyn absently. “Navy men don’t wear beards much these days, even when they’re not officers...”
“I don’t need you to trim my beard,” Ben said grumpily. “I can shave myself.”
“Oh, you don’t believe in the old superstition, then. Good...I’ve had to shave some of my men’s faces for them, so that Beckett wouldn’t give them a hard time for looking scruffy...”
Ah, then it was about reassuring the men who were too superstitious to shave on board so they could still follow Beckett’s dress code, more than simple smothering. That made Ben feel a bit better.
“...Hm, well...I suppose I have been meaning to cut it a bit anyway...”
Once Carewyn had finished buttoning up Ben’s vest, she adjusted his collar.
“When did you leave the Navy?” she asked without looking at his face.
Ben considered her for a moment before answering.
“...Four years ago. I’d gone to sea to try to rise above my station...to earn enough money that I could...well...improve my prospects. But I ended up on board a ship with a captain who sacrificed the lives of his own men, not to protect the innocent, but to protect a ship he held financial stock in. A ship owned by Cutler Beckett, transporting gold, spices, ivory, and slaves to the colonies.”
Carewyn was immediately reminded of Orion. “So you rebelled.”
“Not right away,” Ben corrected. “I tried to have the captain court-marshalled first. But the Navy only gave him a light talking-to and left it at that. They didn’t remove him from service or strip him of his rank, or even publicly reprimand him -- he was allowed to just go about his business like before. And worse, he knew I was the one who’d reported him -- so he ended up retaliating against me, since he was still my commanding officer. I, well...eventually I just got fed up -- so I stopped cowering and fought back.”
Carewyn’s light blue eyes narrowed. “I see. ...You did the right thing.”
Ben’s face seemed to soften slightly. “...Thanks. It hasn’t always felt like the right thing.”
“Sometimes it doesn’t.”
Carewyn fetched the blue coat and helped Ben put it on. This time, he didn’t put up as much of a fuss, even though he considered Carewyn with a more critical, solemn expression.
“Why haven’t you fought back against Beckett?” he asked lowly. “You know what he’s doing is wrong.”
“If I were to fight now, I’d lose,” said Carewyn, “and if I lose, then the ones I love will be in more danger than ever.”
‘My future is already out of my reach. My freedom is already out of reach. If anything happened to them...I’d lose the best part of myself.’
“... I need to wait for the right moments where I can actually make a difference...like this one, for instance,” she added with a slight smile.
Ben’s eyes grew a little smaller as he studied her face.
“...It’s hard for you to stay silent, isn’t it?”
Carewyn didn’t respond, but her eyes squinted a bit too, rippling with a dark emotion as she yanked a loose thread free of Ben’s coat and adjusted the buttons.
“There,” she said at last. “Don’t forget your hat, when you’re out on deck.”
She handed a gold-trimmed black tricorn hat to him, but Ben didn’t put it on, instead holding it loose at his side.
“I won’t be on deck long,” he said. “I’ll be here below deck most of the time...I’ll be gone by dawn.”
Carewyn blinked. Then her whole face seemed to light up in realization.
“...Sabotage,” she whispered. Her almond-shaped blue eyes were almost over-bright. “Black Jack Roberts planned this, didn’t he?”
Ben was startled. “Uh...yeah, he did.”
‘Oh, that’s just like Jacob! He’s always been brilliant...’
Carewyn’s eyes gleamed with warm, intense pride and fondness as she cast her gaze aside.
Ben looked at Carewyn curiously. “...You know Black Jack?”
Carewyn beamed. “Oh, aye -- we go way back.”
“How far back?”
“We grew up together.”
‘I don’t need to explain how we’re related,’ thought Carewyn. ‘If Orion didn’t feel the need to tell him my real name, I don’t have to...it’s not exactly necessary information.’
Carewyn’s response, however, sparked an interesting reaction from Ben. Almost instantly, his hard, overly serious expression had become much softer and warmer, betraying a genuine smile.
“Really...”
The faintest ghost of a laugh seemed to fall from his lips as he bowed his head, his eyes drifting down to the ground. Carewyn smiled slightly in return.
“Now then, Mr. Cooper...I’ll leave you to your work. The barracks are on the lower deck on the starboard side of the ship,” she nodded to the the hallway behind them, “and the officers’ quarters are just up the stairs from there. The walls are thin and most of the officers will be up and about doing nightly rounds, so be careful not to make too much noise. If they catch you ‘out of bed,’ do as they say and pretend to go to your bunk -- you can always use the shortcut that goes through the spirit room on the far right wall to get back out into the hallway without going out the way you came. When you’re up on deck, avoid the windows by the captain’s cabin at all cost -- Beckett can be up when you least expect it, and if he sees any movement outside his windows, he might see fit to investigate. I’ll try to keep the other officers occupied at the helm as much as I can, so they don’t notice you.”
Ben picked up his barrel again with a nod. “Thank you.”
Carewyn saluted him, and he returned the gesture with his arm not holding the barrel.
“By the way,” he added, “the name’s Copper, not Cooper. Ben Copper.”
Carewyn’s lips spread into a full smile. “Nice to meet you.”
She reached out and took hold of the taller man’s shoulder, giving it an abridged squeeze.
“Godspeed...and best of luck.”
By dawn, Ben had finished his preparations and left the HMS Lion, slipping onto the Artemis so that it could sail away before the fog dissipated. Ben had been the last one to finish and return to the fleet, so Skye had expressed the (rather irritable) concern the crew felt that Ben might have gotten himself caught. Ben confessed that he would’ve if it hadn’t been for the Admiral, and told them what had happened. Orion hadn’t said a word or drawn any attention to himself during the entire recounting, so Ben couldn’t have taken into account how the captain turned his focus up to the large, gold-trimmed Navy ship as they sailed away from it. Neither he nor McNully also never heard Orion pull one of his crew members aside and give him one of his gold earrings, explicitly instructing him to deliver it to Jules.
“She’ll need it, for the unbinding ceremony,” he said.
At dawn, the two Navies -- Royal and Pirate -- assembled for war. All of the Britiwhs Navy’s ships got into position, completely unaware of the trap that lay under their decks. The fleet of the pirates’ galleons and brigs -- including the Phoenix, Blackbird, Naga, and Treasure -- came up around the mouth of Shipwreck Cove like a wall, while the Revolution -- captained by Jules and assisted by her First Mate Bill, Jacob, and Ashe -- sailed out in front as the pirates’ flagship.
In the midst of all of this, the fleet of smaller ships were meant to retreat into the ranks of the larger ships, so as to offer support if any of the large ships were to fall and their crews needed to be rescued. But all of a sudden, the crew of the Artemis realized that Orion was nowhere to be found. Panic set in on deck as they searched for him, with crew members all frantically trying to figure out when they saw him last. It didn’t take long for McNully to put together where Orion had gone.
McNully wheeled his chair across the deck, looking with anxiety up at the HMS Lion, sailing just to the right of the Flying Dutchman.
Bounding up through the ocean waves still trimmed with fog, he caught sight of Orion steering the Artemis’s jollyboat into the Navy ship’s shadow.
Skye came up to the railing too. When she caught sight of the jollyboat too, she violently grabbed hold of the railing, her eyes very wide with horror.
“What’s he DOING?!”
“He’s going after the Admiral,” said McNully.
“The Admiral?” said Ben, his eyebrows knitting together in confusion.
Skye looked beside herself with anger and concern. “No, no, no, no, NO! Orion, you bloody dunce! Just because I said that your and Copper’s kind of ‘weird’ was helpful at the meeting doesn’t mean I wanted you to act on it in the middle of the goddamned battle!”
She whirled on McNully.
“We have to stop him! He’s going to get himself caught again -- ”
“There’s only a 21.3% chance of that,” McNully cut her off. “It’s a bit hard to be caught and stay caught when a sea battle is about to kick off. There’s a higher probability of him getting himself killed...”
The First Mate felt the urge to swear both out of frustration and out of anxiety, but he kept his head. He rolled his chair around to face the rest of the crew.
“Signal to the Kumiho and the rest of the fleet to continue with the retreat,” he told them. “We’re going after him.”
