One day in Wu Shi Academy, Johnny and Kenshi wake up in each others body. How or why they switched bodies is mystery to them, but it's Liu Kang's doing to get them to work together by putting them literally in each other's shoes.

The first thing Johnny notices in Kenshi's body is a dull pain in his knee. Kenshi once got it injured in Yakuza, and it stuck with him since then.

JC: why the fuck does you left knee hurt so much?

KT: it's gonna rain.

JC: Now, why the fuck is your knee telling the weather??

On the other hand, Johnny's body periodically gets back pain. Kenshi must complain and let Johnny know that the spinning kicks he does is gonna fuck up his spinal disks in the future.

Johnny forces Kenshi to do skincare routines to his face.

And Kenshi forces Johnny to wear long sleeves.

Johnny makes a personal mission to smile as much as possible with Kenshi's face. Like all teeth out smiles. Raiden and Kung Lao got jumpscared when they first saw it.

Johnny annoys the fuck out of Bi-han enough for him resort to getting physical but Bi-han gets momentarily confused who to punch. Because he wants to punch Johnny's nose, but punching Kenshi's body doesn't give him satisfaction, so he just punches both Kenshi and Johnny, making Johnny feel the pain as well as leaving some damage to his body.

Because of all the shits Johnny is pulling with Kenshi's body, Kenshi threatens to post ugly pics of Johnny on internet.

Johnny's body is fast, nible, and flexible as rubber band, but it is so uncoordinated for kenjutsu while Johnny keeps forgetting that Kenshi's body isn't as flexible as him.

Kenshi is heavier and stronger than Johnny so when Johnny went to do a chest bump with Kung Lao as they usually do, Kung Lao got tossed to the other room like a comet. Since then the shaolins started to steer clear out of Johnny's way.

Kenshi is kinda not well with hand to hand combat. He usually brutes force things, but since he's in Johnny's body, he no longer can do that. So Johnny totals him in sparrings. And somehow Kenshi thinks it's not such a bad idea, its kinda a turn-on.

Asra

• They would teach art

• One of the favourite teachers in the entire school

• None of the assignments they give are what the school board tehnically require, but they encourage creativity

• Also he has no care when it comes to grading so you can come to class with a roll of toilet paper and still get an A

• There is no learning in his class, it's more like an extended break

• I imagine they don't even show up half of the time

• It's a miracle they haven't been fired

• (The miracle is called Nadia)

Nadia

• As a teacher, i think she'd do history or geography

• But overall, she's definetly the principle

• If the school is short staffed, she can definitely multi-task

• As a teacher, she'd be very strict

• No talking, no whispering, no phones...really follows every rule

• And she's a little harsh on the grading too

• But it isn't hard to get a good grade if you listen to her lectures and take notes

• She's also very willing to help and really aims to teach

• The obvious answer is chemistry and/or biology

• But i feel like his classes would be so much more

he's the chill coach; honestly worrisome how chill he is even at crucial times when they're trying to beat the quarter clocks. he's so composed even when the gap is widening (regardless if in favor of toji's team or not) that it's insulting to the other team's coach, as if he's belittling the game itself. like it's a practice game.

sports parents, esp. moms ..... i'm sure you know how they regard toji. single coach who spent a good sum of his money during his divorce court trial. anyway. they love him istg they watch the games both for their kids AND their coach

however, he's NOT chill during practices, especially after losing. now, toji's teams have far more winning streaks than losing, so he's usually stricter at the peak of the streaks or right after one loss. he's got that chill look with a sinisterly strict aura underneath.

"you're not yet good if you can't beat me" ⎯ is way too good it takes several practices for his team to catch up. well, good for him ⎯ two students from the male team, geto and gojo, were able to block his attempt for a two-point shot. AND NO NEPOTISM OK but maki's that grade school team point guard who's able to replicate his signature half-court shot. he got her a pair of basketball shoes for that.

megumi way too good for grade schooler but he also credits his vigor to practice on itadori yuuji.

toji too good there are offers being sent to him with higher pay and larger connections (which do attract him) but he said he'll stay because his son likes his school which is in the basic education of geto and gojo's university

toji likes the way you scream when you cheer and imagines if you'd sound just as loud when he (TOOT) you ;))

it's obvious hot under the sun on the field so yes he does take off his coach unform and practices with them with only either a muscle tee or a tank top (yes, i refuse to call it wife-beater). sometimes he forgets to take off his chain necklace even tho it's itchy bc god this man gets lazy at the weirdest times possible

oooooo everyone just loves rerouting to pass by the field (same) and then they'd take pictures so at some point college football got too famous bc of the hot coach

so toji's usually more of a verbal socratic coach. during cooldowns or breaks or warmups he makes sure that his players know how to think for themselves so that even if they're in the zone (which renders them on autopilot and when they're disturbed they lose focus abruptly). he has a way of making them calm down when they know what to do. the same method even helped them with their academics holy shit!

he's lazy when demonstrating but when he does omfg pls kick my face idk. important notes to consider are his agility and flexibility; strong physique in general; and quick thinking. even if he slows down to show them, he's still quick.

he does get frustrated bc we all get crankier when it's hot. he doesn't lash out on his players, he almost never did before, but he does lash out at home when megumi's not around lmfao.

and then one time your kid told you to watch his practice (for this your kid is assigned male at birth), so you did, and then you see his coach and all of a sudden your cute kid always sees you at the bleachers side, front row. parent perks.

the japan national team wants him to be the coach but he's like ..... maybe next time when my son joins your team

As for sk!Jade with a male darling!!! The chances of survival may be low, but even so you're determined to survive like anyone else in that sort of horrific situation. I like to think that with Jade gender doesn't matter. The concept of gender is so uniquely flexible in the ocean, so in his eyes everyone is all the same (everyone is a meal). But convincing him may be a little difficult because you can't use the excuse of being pregnant. Perhaps, rather than a connection to Azul, your chances of survival may increase wonderfully if you have a deep connection with Floyd.

Jade would do a lot of things for his brother. After all, he cares for Floyd and his family always stick together. So your nine months will look different from a female!darling's. Whereas a female!darling is seeing a pregnancy through to the end, a male!darling will likely have to spend those nine months convincing Jade not to kill him and to spare him for Floyd's sake. I like to think Jade gives you nine months not only so you can try to convince him with solid reasoning but also to see how long Floyd's interest in you will last before it begins to wane. So not only are you relying on your persuasion skills (and entertainment skills because if Jade's keeping you alive he's going to want some form of daily amusement; it wouldn't be very fun if you always showed him the same frightened expression. That's just so boring. :/), you have to hope Floyd doesn't tire of you because when he no longer cares for you it allows Jade to make you his meal.

If anything, Jade just doesn't want to break his brother's heart. If Floyd really does like you, it would hurt him if Jade took you away. So he'll let you live for nine months and he'll see if anything changes between you and Floyd in that time. After all, he can only make up so many excuses for where you've disappeared to before Floyd either drops the subject and loses interest entirely or persists in hopes of digging the truth out of him.

In my opinion hmm..

Freedom is a big thing in the One Piece world, and I can actually see an open relationship or a polycule of some variety being a decent norm.

I think the Celestial Dragons would be excessively strict about marriage and family units (yes I am staring at the camera when I say this), and the nobility as well, but more likely commoners and pirates would have a widely different view. (Marines would be a mixed bag, but I think the statistics would lean more toward monogamy for them. And I'm not saying monogamy is *bad*, but I do think there's a kind of "being used as a tool for control/propriety" certainly exists)

Ahem, anyway!

I can see, off the top of my head, Shanks, Kid, Killer, Heat, Wire, Penguin, Shachi, Zoro, Law, Marco, Ace, Izou, Thatch, Rayleigh (canonically, actually), Roger, Buggy, Mihawk, Crocodile, and possibly even *maybe* Doflamingo being in some variety of open or group relationship.

Crocodile and Doffy get pretty possessive, imo, but I can see there being a situation with a set group where they'd be into it. Neither would be okay with hearing about things after the fact, or not being a part of things in some way shape or form.

Shanks would 100% be okay with hearing about your exploits, and sharing his in return. Marco would be okay hearing about your exploits too, but I feel like he'd have less to share in return. Ace would be somewhere in between the two I think, in terms of hearing about and talking about exploits.

And I mean, Rayleigh is canonically in an open relationship, so >.>

I can see Kid bragging about a lot of things, but considering how I see him and the entire Kid crew, I don't think there'd be any malice in those regards. Kid's contest with Shanks and the Red Hair Pirates is more about being pirates than being good in the sack. (Also I don't think Kid has a singular drop of doubt about how good he is in the sack XD )

Most everyone else I see as more being in a poly situation and not so much an open one. A distinction being that partners and escapades are discussed prior to having them happen. So the conversation would be before and after - at least at the start of things, once things stabilize in the relationship it works a little different.

But yeah, with freedom and being true to oneself as part of very important themes for the show, I wouldn't be surprised to see poly and open relationships more a normal thing among pirates and such than not.

Luffy, I think, would be into open relationships, but I also don't know how much I think Luffy would be bothered to define any relationship outside of certain parameters. He wants you to be happy, whatever shape that would take, while also being happy himself, and I feel like he's the kind of guy who feels wholly responsible for his own happiness, which makes him very flexible for fitting into whatever shape your happiness needs.

But that's just a random off the top of my head thought that popped in at the end of this, so xD take it for whatever.

when I started shipping it if I did: this is tricky bc i feel it laid dormant in me for a long time (basically since seeing that ai love love fanart of near asleep on mello in probably 2008) and there is evidence in my old AO3 history of me having read fic for them as far back as 2014 (???!!!) but i wouldn't say i sincerely shipped them until my late sept 2022 rewatch of DN which. when the photo exchange scene happened i turned to my brother and said “they're in love.” the rest is history ig 🫣 

my thoughts: MANY!!! ship of all time for me ngl 

What makes me happy about them: i really really enjoy the potential for immense tenderness with one another in the wake of lifelong one-sided resentment & competition. also their mutual obsession and horrific PDA charms me. 

What makes me sad about them: oughggghgghg. canon. & mello's inferiority complex / insane abandonment issues but like at the same time those are fun to write about so.

things done in fanfic that annoys me: to be honest i haven't really been reading meronia fic much over the last year except in cases where i know the author. this is just because of like. basic things like constraints on my time. and also bc overall there honestly aren't That many fics that get posted where i Don't know the author (<- chatty to a fault) off the top of my head, things i have seen At Some Point in fanfic that i don't care for:

1) near being infantilized,

2) near being a total pushover,

3) mello being an overly-aggressive asshole / being cruel for the sake of cruelty (this sort of dynamic just doesn't appeal to me for any ship, it's not my thing, but i particularly don't care for it in meronia)

4) near being overtly mean to mello (he is honestly STUNNINGLY kind to mello considering the circumstances in the photo exchange scene).

honestly a skilled author could probably pull off 3 or 4 with a deft and nuanced hand but it still wouldn't be my cup of tea. OH! one more.

5) i don't personally find it interesting or compelling if mello is in a straightforward position of substantial power over near / if everything just goes mello's way. it's too dissimilar to canon for the dynamic to resonate with me personally and gets rid of mello's underdog status entirely, which is kind of his whole thing. 

things I look for in fanfic: this one is tough because i do just mostly read stuff by people i know and by like. smallestbird. hgdhgshdghs if i was going to look for fanfic though, i think i would look for: nuanced dynamic, "no archive warnings apply" (just my personal tastes for meronia & my inability to do angst), and an interesting premise / summary (this is so so vague sorry but summary is the top determining factor in whether i click on something or not). 

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: NO ONE! sorry. matt in an OT3 tho <3 

My happily ever after for them: either working together as L, near working as L while mello is his sexy unemployed boyfriend, or something entirely unrelated to being L (ideal but harder to imagine). i tend to imagine them staying in new york city, probably traveling for cases occasionally, and being attached at the hip 24/7

Random. Venting I did to a friend yesterday.

I cut out what my friend said to me just bc. Feels weird to post someone else's words here. It did really help that he told me that what my parents did was awful. And that it's not something they should be proud of. I don't know. I just feel far too normal for someone who's been through a lot. But normal is also what I need to be to survive.

I'd experience really really terrible things but then literally the next day I'd be. Fine again. I wouldn't remember it and it certainly wouldn't be on my mind. I was never really someone who like. Was traumatized in the classic way. Because I'd have to go to work the next day. I couldn't not, or I wouldn't be able to eat. Between the choice of affording food and staying home to cry about something that happened, I would always choose to afford food. Even now, lately I've been having crying breakdowns in the work bathroom multiple times a week and like. After I'm done I just wash my face and go back to work. My job is very understanding and flexible, I'm 100% sure I *could* go home if I wanted to. Other people have cried at work (not usually about work things, because working here is p great) and been comforted by coworkers, taken a break in the break room, gone home, etc. But what would I do if I went home? I feel fine afterwards. I'm not going to just sit at home stewing in my feelings. And if coworkers see me crying they might send me home for my own good or be concerned about me and I certainly can't have that.

So, there's no actual theory, but the thing is that people have debated about what, exactly, is mana, and ki, in BC. And I think that the concept of a soul will probably end up being the third thing, the exact definition/description of which is going to be a topic of debate, so I'm just going to ramble a bit.

So, firstly, while reading any piece of work, let it be a traditional book, a manga, or even while watching a series, a very clever way for a writer to introduce concepts, without being able to define them word to word, is to have the characters talk about these topics. Because the characters can lie, they can have misunderstandings, or their perception of something can just differ from the perception of another person. Meaning that if in BC the information concerning the concept of a soul, for example, comes from Lucius, there is a high chance of it being a very narrow, biased, or misleading way of depicting it. Because of course Lucius wants the thing he's saying, to sound the absolute most favourable for him. He wants his opponents to despair. He wants them to go "how on earth are we going to fight that power?" Some things of what he's saying need to be true of course, because otherwise his statement wouldn't be credible, but it doesn't mean that what he's saying would be 'the whole truth and nothing but the truth'.

Now, in the very beginning of the anime, at least, we are told by the narrator that "in this world magic is everything", which has been interpreted by a portion of the fandom as mana = life, but I don't think that mana (or magic) is exactly life. They're closely related, but you can be alive without having a lot of mana. Because... by all logic, wouldn't the peasants (or those with very low mana) then be sickly and prone to dying all throughout their lives? What I think is meant by this statement that mana in BC is kinda like money. Money can get you opportunities, it means (usually) a higher place in society, and it can by your services/medicine/care that can prolong your life. Essentially, money, and mana, are tools. Though mana has a closer connection to life than money, because they're both non-tangible concepts, and we know that a person's grimoire disintegrates when they die, meaning that once a person dies, mana leaves their bodies etc. (Which is why, I think, why Nacht can't move into the shadow of a dead person.)

Ki is something that is... an expression of life? I suppose. I have no clear picture of what ki actually is, but it's, as far as I've understood it, kinda the life force of a person being reflected out. Even plants can have ki. So, it's ... their presence, in a sense, but it is connected to the idea of life. But. As said it's separate from mana. Meaning that mana and life, are connected. Ki and life are connected. But ki and mana are not.

However, I do think that the concept of a soul is also tied with life and mana. Again, you don't need to have life and mana in order to have a soul, but I do think that all these 3 concepts (assuming you have all 3) are connected. Because a person's magical affinity usually matches in a way their personality. There is something in their personality which is expressed by their magic attribute. Again, it's not their whole personality, but there is an aspect of them that is well depicted by their attribute. (What part of their personality it depicts is an entirely different discussion, and for the side characters I don't think Tabs gave necessarily that much thought. Not with all, at least.)

So, where am I going with this?

What is a soul? It's connected with life. It's connected with mana. But can you shape your own soul? As you pointed out, Charlotte has managed to shape it in a way that allowed her to utilize both her cursed blue roses, and her original red ones. This would imply that souls are flexible too. Which, if you think about it, does make sense. People (or humanoids as BC has elves and dwarves and so on too) change during the course of their lives. They can change into different versions of themselves as they age, and since BC is greatly about self-improvement and growth, I think this fits nicely in there. Nothing is set in stone.

"You make your own fate" as said by Yami.

What does this make of Lucius' magic though? He can alter souls. But what if people can change their own souls as a response? It would make him rather powerless at the end of the day, would it not? "Oh you changed it, I'll just change it right back." Perhaps you'd need a catalyst, like a strong emotional connection in Sister Lily's case, but it can be done. Because ultimately your soul is your own. It's fluid, it's flexible. Someone can change it but ultimately it's you who are the master of it. It's either about succumbing to your fate, or making your own fate. Essentially.

Of course I'm not saying that making a change, or "changing your soul" would be easy. Because growth is usually a long road, filled with stones and thistles, so Lucius would have an advantage on speed in that sense. But also the people are not powerless against him.

I don't really know. This is just my two cents about mana, life, soul and ki.

My new fixation is bad poetry

and its making me think about how to define art and poetry and what makes poetry good etc but I can't go back and find my sophomore english teacher and rant about it so I'm making it yalls problem. but mr c if ur in here pls read also what do you mean thats one way to skin a hamster. thats not how it goes what are you talking abou

first of all, ive finally figured out my current definition of art: records of the human experience or just experience in general. so yes paintings and poetry but ALSO tiktoks or a decorated room. idc if you think its stupid there are remnants and references to human experiences ALL OVER those. so basically if it left a mark at any point, its art. maybe not always "good" or skilled, deep, etc but it is art (to me)

secondly, what is poetry? the same sophomore english teacher asked this at the beginning of a unit and the class was struggling. every time we listed a requirement for poetry he went "is that necessary though?". "it has to rhyme" "does it?" "it has to be deep" "does it" "it needs to have words!" ".....does it?" man idk i was 15 and sleep deprived

but now im less sleep deprived and i have an answer. I would consider poetry a spectrum (but not necessarily flexible. i wouldn't say you have to bend it's meaning to make something fit) but also playing with language, to be playful with it and have fun with it, to use it as a toy in a way. using language in a way different from its intended use. so writing a personal narrative about a deep topic? not poetry. maybe you had fun with it but thats still its main use. to make words rhyme, to alliterate, to use words just plain wrong? probably poetry. its still a spectrum. and im aware this means that saying something like "yew nork/glass fork" would count as a shitpost and poetry while "Ill love you and ill never stop loving you" doesnt and um i dont care i said what i said--

this would also mean most books and speeches would have little bits of poetry in there and i stand by that too. maybe the entire thing isnt poetry but bits of it could count. i came to this conclusion on the meaning of poetry because i saw too many "aesthetic" free verse poems that were just. tweets. you coulda just made it a sentence and posted it for free. there was no attempt to play with language. you just used it the way you were supposed to. its just a quote.

im definitely going to add more onto this about what i think poetry critics miss sometimes and why formal teaching of poetry is flawed but not all in one post bc its a lot. However i have one last concept to attempt to define. this one has always made me the angriest

GOOD VS BAD POETRY/ART

where do i even start. maybe we should just get rid of these terms completely and make people say what they mean. is it good or did he just use literary devices correctly. is it good or is it genuine. is it good or is it deep. is it good or is it entertaining. is it good or do you like it. is it good or is it popular. is it good or is it complex. is it good or is it creative.

ive been saying since i was i was maybe 12-13 that even though good does not have a solid stable meaning, there is still a sense of what good is. We know what its supposed to be. classical music, Edgar Allen Poe, Da Vinci are good. sure most people barely know or understand or care about these things other than one piece of work they can recall because they had to look at it in highschool that time and the teacher seemed to appreciate it. and we know that reality tv, messily hand drawn animals, and half assed near unintelligible tiktok skits are bad.

but....wait we like those though

ive come to the conclusion that while still shifting, "good"'s meaning in scholarly settings tends to come down to whatever those somethingth century european dudes and what the modern smart looking guys deemed intelligent. and in colloquial settings, what everyone likes.

many pretentious types will say rap is bad and the subject matter is crude and the same way im sure some old european guy would have said or has said traditional african music is too weird and primitive to be respectable.

now. i dont really listen to rap intentionally. if its in there its in there. I used to be pretentious and after changing i just never got too deep into it BUT. i listened to a Nicki Minaj song one time just to see and yeah it was not family friendly but dear god was it clever. the way she'd drop the most genius alliteration-personification-allegory-englishvocabword and then just keep it moving like im not gonna have to stop and ponder the seven layer reference to bedtime hanky panky. its smart. its creative. its complex. and so many rappers can write about the same topics over and over and still come back with a new way of phrasing it. its genuinely impressive

but so many still wouldn't consider it good.

the term good when it comes to art, while having somewhat of a meaning is still useless. make your own personal standards for what is important for you to see in art. its kind of silly for us to collectively decide "okay this art? we like it. this is good" and then go to a different community (age group, culture, race) and go "were going to show you the new gold standard for good! its what we liked! you dont do it like this?? then yours is bad!". historically thats never been a good move

what i find important with poetry (and by poetry i mostly mean song writing bc i dont even read poetry like that) tends to be "is it a poem? or a sentence/paragraph". everything other than that just has to do with my taste and what I prefer in the moment. and it goes the same for everyone else. there's no universal good or bad with art. its just what a dominant or culturally respected group of people said was important.

TL;DR: i think anything that records an experience is art. i think toying with language mostly makes it poetry, and i think its weird people create little boxes for good and bad and make everyone else adhere to it
