Text
Danny at the tender age of 23, has had a bad month. He had just lost his job as an interpreter with his company due to rejecting the advances of one of the older female bosses and his landlord was trying to screw him over on rent.
It honestly surprised him when he woke up one day with his wrists bound in front of him and trapped in a tube. He had been out of the hero game since the portals closed up years ago and Vlad lost his powers, so it had been a while since the whole "kidnapping" thing had happened to him.
He looked out through the glass of the tube as he turned intangible to let the IV needles fall out of his arms. There luckly wasn't any glowing green goo in the tube with him, but he doubts it will stay that way long as the scientists outside his containment chatted happily about "the discovery of the decade!" Ick.
He waits till they're gone before turning intangible slipping out of his tube and heading straight for the computer. He knew how to hack, but he was low on time and needed to know exactly what was going on, so some ghostly meddling with electronics were necessary. Sorry Tuck.
It was at this moment he found out several things.
1. Danny had apparently been here for several months instead of the few days he had initially assumed
2. He was found somewhere in his own thermos, asleep. Luckily they haven't been able to replicate any technology from it.
3. Superheros were a very real thing now. How long had he been asleep?
4. He had been cloned. Again. But this time he had someone else's DNA mixed in with the clones to make them more stable and intelligent. Some guy named Red Robin. Huh. Was that his real name or...?
Danny took a deep breath before locating his new clone kids. Ellie would be thrilled...if she was still around that is. He could think about that later, right now he had to grab his babies-and oh ancients- they were babies! The oldest of the three looked four years old at most and the youngest looked only a few hours. He was still all pink and alien looking.
Luckily his children didn't fight him when he picked them up and flew through the walls with them. He made a mental note to teach them stranger danger when he came across a large red button.
You won't believe what it was labeled as. Yep. A self destruct button. How cliché. Whatever. He pushed it and sirens immediately started to go off and he continued flying them through walls before exited into a dark gothic city he knew Sam would immediately love.
Somehow he managed to immediately land a job as a linguist for Wayne tech. Probably thanks to the three small kids he had and the panicked look on his face. Bruce was a really chill dude.
Batman however, was a prick. He met the guy weeks after his run in with Bruce and he kept popping up after he found out the clone babies were partially from one of his birds and trying to take custody away from him or convince him to give them up. Danny retaliated by spreading the rumor/truth that his kids where Red Robins from creepy cloning scientists that kidnapped him before immediately moving out of Gotham and into Fawcett City to work for a competitors company. This way Red couldn't legally go after him for custody without revealing his identity :)
This is how Red Robin, at the tender age of 25, learned he had kids with a man named Daniel Nightengale. Not only that, Bruce knew about them and didn't tell him.
Danny made it clear that if any of the Gotham Rouges tried to follow him and harm his kids they would come back missing a hand. Joker found out the hard way that he wasn't bluffing.
Shazams old guy mentor almost has an aneurysm when he senses the freaking GHOST KING living in Fawcett. Danny is also much more powerful then ever before and accidentally made the power go out in half the city when he got truly angry with Batman.

A powerful ghost shows up in class and publicly annouches that Daniel Fenton is the next ghost king and crowns Danny right then and there @phantomphangphucker
i love phil guys hes great
Danny yawned and rested his chin in his hand. He hadn’t studied very hard for this english test and it was kicking him in the butt now. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to, he just had other things he needed to do. Like kicking Skulker back to the ghost zone. And playing Doomed.
Danny started nodding off. His head was almost to the table when suddenly everyone's tests were flying across the room in a whirlwind of wind. His head shot back up and he nearly fell out of his chair when he saw the ghost standing in the middle of his desk staring down at him.
“Hello, Mr. Phantom.” The ghost quips. “I come before you today to crown you King of the Ghost Zone.”
“What the hell?” Danny hissed, leaning back in his seat.
“Fenton? Phantom? King of the ghost zone?” Dash sounded off to his left.
“Lord of the flies!” Lancer shouted.
The ghost ignored the clamoring of students that had erupted around the classroom. Now he was digging inside his pockets.
“Hey… Ghost. Guy.” Danny said slowly. “What are you talking about? Phantom? King of the ghost zone? Haha, you must have the wrong guy.”
The ghost started pulling things out of his pockets. “I’m afraid not, Mr. Phantom. I was given these orders to crown you by the Observants.”
“What?” Danny squeaked.
“I believe I was also given other instructions but I must’ve lost them in my pockets.”
Danny threw his hands up into the air. “So empty them!”
“Impossible.” The ghost said.
He continued pulling random items out of his pockets. He even somehow pulled a defibrillator out of one of his pockets and that’s when he finally found what he was looking for.
“Ah, here it is.” The ghost pulled a piece of paper from his pocket. He squinted at it and started reading. “‘Phil. We hereby assign you to the crowning of one Daniel James Fenton Phantom. From this point forward you will act as royal advisor to his majesty. The one thing we ask of you is to do Phantom’s coronation in private as he prefers to keep the two halves of his life separate.’”
Phil finished reading the note and looked back to Danny and then around at the rest of the humans in the classroom.
“Ah. I apologize, your majesty. I had not finished reading the note before I put it in my pocket and forgot about it.”
“I don’t want your lousy apology.” Danny frowned and crossed his arms, leaning back in his chair. “This wasn't how I pictured my identity reveal going.”
“You’re really Phantom?” Dash squeaked. His cheeks went red.
“Can I still say no?”
“It appears not, your majesty. I don’t think they will believe you.”
“Thanks, Phil. But I wasn’t asking you.”
Phil stood on top of Danny’s desk for a few silent seconds before he continued pulling things out of his pockets, littering the classroom floor with them.
“Well, we might as well get on with the coronation ceremony, your majesty. No point in stopping now that I’ve already ruined it.”
“How did Danny become ghost king, again?” Dash asked, voice still squeaky.
“He overthrew the previous ghost king, Pariah Dark. Ghost Zone law thereby decrees that the kingship should pass on to those that challenge the king and win.” Phil pulled a bowling ball out of his pocket and dropped it on the ground while he talked. “It had taken much deliberation but the Observants had finally decided that a half human half ghost hybrid would in fact be fit to rule the ghost zone, Mr. Baxter.”
Dash’s face went white. “How does he know my name?” He whispered.
“Ah, here we go.” Phil pulled out first a scepter and orb. He gestured for Danny to stand up and after a few moments of having a staring contest, Danny rolled his eyes and stood up from his desk.
The next thing Phil pulled out of his pocket was the crown of fire. Phil was speaking some sort of official sounding speech, but right before he placed the crown on Danny’s head, he backed up.
“Do I have to wear it?” Danny asked.
Phil nodded, and understanding in his eyes. “Yes, your majesty. But I can take it back after the coronation ceremony if you wish.”
Danny nodded. Phil finished the rest of the speech and placed the crown on his head.
“King Daniel James Fenton Phantom of the ghost zone!”
Danny felt as the crown gave off a puff of power. It sent the scattered papers rustling on the floor and then everything was still again.
“What did that do?” Danny asked Phil as the ghost took the scepter and orb back.
“It recognized you as the king of the ghost zone, your majesty.” Phil said. He pushed the scepter deep into his pocket. “The crown bonds with you and recognizes you as its own.”
“Oh.” Danny said. “Will you be taking it back now?”
“Yes, your majesty. If that’s what you would like me to do.”
Danny nodded. The crown was floating above his head, but it was still a weight he didn’t like hovering over it.
Phil stooped down and gently took the crown off of Danny’s head. Putting that back in his pocket as well, he bowed down to Danny.
“I have been a royal advisor for many millennia, your majesty. So trust me when I say the ghost zone will be in good hands.”
And then with another whirlwind of scattered papers, Phil was gone back to wherever he came from.
The classroom was silent for a few blissful but agonizingly tense moments before Danny’s classmates erupted into an uproar, asking him a million questions that he didn’t have the answers to.

Phic Phight 2022 Summary
My first ever phic phight is over and I had so much fun! I'm really looking forward to reading all the phics everyone published this month!
I ended on a total of 48000 words which was waay beyond what I had anticipated. Before the phight started my goal was to reach 5000 words and I totally blew that out of the water. Almost ten fold! I really look forward to doing this again next year! Now onto dannymay and the invisobang! (Though I might need a short break after all this writing XD)
Here's a list of all the phics (and memes) I did for this phight, so they're all in one place:
You should see me in a crown
Ao3 Tumblr Memes
Danny might have been the one to fight Pariah Dark, but by locking the old King away again, Vlad earned an equal right to the throne as Danny. Vlad has now decided it's time for them to fight for the right to the throne. Except, Clockwork likes to meddle and Vlad is met with a surprise the day of the duel.
Rapprochement (can I help you not to hurt anymore?)
Ao3 Tumblr
Danny revealed he was Phantom to his parents and things went well ... until they didn't. He flees from the dissection table to the one person who can help him right now, Vlad Masters.
A Sister's Love
Ao3 Tumblr part 1 part 2 Memes
Oh no, Danny has been kidnapped! Except … these losers seem to be normal kidnappers without any knowledge of ghosts at all. This is hilarious to him and he’s so busy having his fun with them he doesn't even bother trying to escape. But Jazz doesn't find it nearly as amusing when her little brother goes missing and she would do anything to make sure he’s safe.
Pet allergy
Ao3 Tumblr Memes
After months of ghost attacks, most Amity Parkers were used to strange sights. But the student body of Casper High still paused in whatever they were doing when the day after spring break, Daniel “Danny” Fenton, youngest of the notorious ghost hunting family and famously known for being terrified of ghosts, walked into the school trailed by not one, not two, but five blob ghosts.
The universe works in mysterious ways
Ao3 Tumblr
Danny was reborn in a rift in Space and Time. Reborn, and then forced away. Then the ghosts attack and of course he fights them, of course he protects his town. It’s what a good person would do and Danny is a good person. But as time goes on he feels more and more empty inside, until one day it comes to its head.
Danny was never meant to be a hero. Luckily, like recognizes like and Time helps him realize his true purpose.
This is OUR hero
Ao3 Tumblr part 1 part 2 part 3 (in progress) Memes
Danny Phantom’s secret identity is a very well kept secret. Not by Danny Fenton, even though he might believe that. Oh no, that boy is awful at keeping secrets. What with yelling “going ghost” in public places and using ghost abilities constantly. But the people of Amity Park … the people are excellent at keeping his secret for him. And they do not like any outsiders trying to hurt their little hero.
A 5+1 story where different Amity Parkers finds out Danny Phantom and Danny Fenton is one and the same and can't do anything to help him. And then one time they can help him.
Dear child of mine
Ao3 Tumblr Art
Maddie and Jack loved their children dearly. They just also loved their work just as much. Luckily, their children were also very interested in their work, especially their little darling Danny and for the first years of his life, Danny spent long swats of time in the lab with them. When Danny was four they completed their crown jewel, The Fenton portal, but it didn’t work. A curious Danny goes to explore the portal and activates it. Moments later, Clockwork finds a newly dead child crying outside their Lair.
Sisters’ day out
Ao3 Tumblr
Dani returns to Amity and this time Danny makes sure to introduce her to Jazz. The two girls decide to go on a fun outing together and by the end of the day, Dani gets much more than just a fun day to remember. She gets a family.

handknit sweater, never worn
How did Valerie end up in these kinds of situations? Of course there had to be a large scale ghost attack at her school. Val had gotten rid of most of the ghosts, weak mindless things when part of the auditorium collapsed, trapping her inside. Normally she’d blast her way out but the old building was creaking ominously from who know how many fights. Her rockets might collapse the whole south side of the school, meaning she was stuck here while the Fentons cleaned up the rest of the small fry. And to make matters worse, Danny’s dad had had the brilliant idea to put up a portable ghost shield around parts of the school to contain the ghosts. Meaning Phantom and the spooky vampire ghost were stuck with her too.
“Ugh this sucks,” Phantom whined, leaning petulantly against the ghost shield. His arms were crossed and his eyes lidded with annoyance, he almost could have passed for a normal, annoyed high schooler if you ignored his unnatural glow. “They really increased the power on these shields, I hope they’re okay out there by themselves. I think most of the students were evacuated already.” He glanced subtlety over at her which only increased her irritation. It was so aggravating he knew everything about her while she knew nothing about him.
“Madeline’s handiwork no doubt,” The vampire guy, Plasmius, commented flippantly. “I don’t believe Jack could assemble a sandwich without her assistance.” Phantom bristled a bit at the comment but just turned to glare at empty air. While she’d once mistaken them for friends, it was clear there was serious bad blood between Plasmius and Phantom.
“What are you even doing here, Plasmius?” Phantom hissed, crossing his arms closer to his chest in aggravation. “I’ve told you a million times to stay out of Amity.”
“Or you’ll do what, dear boy?” Plasmius grinned, flashing his fangs, like Phantom had told a particularly funny joke. Val privately considered the ghost boy to be one of the strongest ghosts she’d ever fought so if this guy was treating him like an annoying fly... Valerie kept her weapons up just in case but otherwise stayed away from the two volatile ghosts. She could take them down if she had to but there might be collateral. Right, that’s what she was going to go with.
“Actually,” Plasmius said, his cruel red eyes twinkling with smug glee. “I popped into town to check in on some of my old college friends. See what they’d been up to while I’d been busy with my various projects.”
Phantom kept his casual posture but went rigid, he did a quick glance over at her before moving back over to the ghost. “Now? You’re doing this now?”
“It’s always a good time to hurt you and besides,” another throaty chuckle, “I thought Ms. Grey might be interested.” Ok, was there any ghost that didn’t know her identity?
“Anyway, the wife was out but I found my fat, stupid old friend,” another twitch from Phantom, “back at his old favorite past time of knitting. It looked like he was making a sweater.”
“You’re a real bastard, you know that?” Phantom hissed, his form looking more and more defensive by the minute. Valerie had no idea what they were talking about but it clearly was upsetting the Ghost Kid. Usually she’d be pleased but it was kind of uncomfortable to watch.
“Hmm,” the vampire ghost hummed, still radiating cruel satisfaction. “I’m sure you’ve seen it too considering how often you’re in that house. He was working so hard on it, so furiously. No doubt trying to get it done in time for Christmas. A beautiful, handmade sweater for his wayward son who’s never going to get the chance to wear it.”
Oh shit, Plasmius was talking about Phantom’s dad. She’d assumed the beef between them started once they’d become ghosts but clearly there was history that extended to when they’d both been alive. Imagining Phantom alive, with parents... it was too weird.
“Shut up, I’m going to wear the sweater,” Phantom muttered weakly, curling in on himself. He’d scooted as far away from Plasmius as he could get.
“Oh but he’s not making it for you, Danny Phantom,” Plasmius lilted with a smirk causing Phantom to wince. “He’s making it for his normal, human son who he doesn’t even have the brains to realize doesn’t exist anymore. Would he bother to spend so much time and energy on a sweater that could only be worn by a ghost? To see proof of his own failure as a father?”
“Hey, it was my fault,” Phantom defended, finally snapping out of his sad and guilty funk. He balled his fists and glared at Plasmius with all he had. “I don’t blame them for what happened, I love them and they love me and nothing you say will ever change that!”
“Then why don’t you tell them, Daniel,” Plasmius asked with a raised eyebrow. “If you’re so confident in their love, then tell them. Tell them the sweater is pointless because you thrive in the cold. Tell them that their mistakes and negligence led to you becoming an unnatural abomination not fit to exist in either world.”
“Only-” Phantom’s voice caught and he cleared his throat and tried again. “Only if you tell them first. You may have been their friend at one point a long time ago but all you’ve done since then is hurt people, hurt me. For all their flaws, I don’t think they’ll ever forgive you for that.”
“Touché, son,” Plasmius scoffed. “Now then, I’m afraid our discussion will have to continue another time. I believe the power on the ghosts shield should be fading right about...” a low whine and the green wall surrounding them disappeared. “Ta ta for now you petulant child. Ms. Grey, a pleasure as always. Be careful with this one, he’s an experienced cheat and a liar.” With those parting words, Plasmius disappeared in a swirl of pink.
Valerie thought Phantom would leave too but instead he let out a long breath and ran his gloved fingers through his hair. After a moment he straightened himself up and looked as cool and confident as he ever did.
“The Fentons have probably rounded up the rest of the ghost but we might as well check, you check by the cafeteria and I’ll go through the classrooms.”
“Why?” Valerie found herself asking, not sure what she meant. Why did Phantom die? Why was he so afraid to let his apparently still living parents know what happened? Why did he try so hard to help people when everyone, including her, was so against him?
“It’s the right thing I guess,” Phantom shrugged, rubbing at the back of his neck. “My uh my parents raised me that way and if it lost that after everything, well, then the person I was before really will be gone.” He floated over to her, gently phasing them both through the wreckage connecting them to the rest of the school and, for a second Valerie saw a scared, human kid in over his head. Then the illusion was gone and it was just Phantom, annoying as always.
“Check the classrooms and if there’s no ghosts then I’m gunning for you,” Val said instead, activating her hoverboard and speeding off before he could answer. She readied her weapons and didn’t think of childless parents living in ignorance of what they’d lost or lonely sons who were too afraid to ask if their parents would love them even as a monster.
She just wanted to get the ghost scum out of her school and move on with her life. But still, she couldn’t help but think that, come Christmas time, she’d find Phantom in a handknit sweater intended to ward off a chill he could not longer feel.

Hm should do some small changes to my Dani design. (I see people call her Ellie a lot, might have her use that too, less confusing that way... but then again both being named Danny is still really funny.)
First off, I'm giving her glasses. That's literally The Reason Danny can't recognize his own face. Classic superman identity trope.
Going into Dani's back story, the parents got hired by GiW soon after Dani was born. The family moved to some other state to do government related testings- my assumption that the universe difference here was something Vlad did that cause the GiW to be formed earlier, not sure what the exact context is. (A bigger plot is here but idk details yet)
Dani never grew up with Sam and Tucker, she's popular at the schools she's at but doesn't have anyone super close. (Maybe they move all the time?) The Fenton parents of this timeline Aren't Evil persay, but they're stuck with government officials who put a lot of pressure onto them.
For whatever reason (idk yet) Dani gets caught up in the GiW stuff and they use her to test the portal gun on her, Dani can't separate her parents involvement, family is torn apart. It's a mix of Classic Fenton nonfunctional mishaps and the parents believing it was the right thing to do for Dani, considering how serious/corupt the GiW are in my take.
Anyway, Dani is friends with Vlad who isn't rich or well off. Maybe Dani has portal powers? (Cause. Portal gun. Cool) and Dani is on the run. (Thus ghosts are always following) This vlad is more like TUE Vlad, softened and a good role model. Dani still trusts Jazz (who shed be extra close with) but can't see herself staying with the Fenton anymore.
She jumps realties. (likely a Vlad of main timeline's fault, but portal Dani could be involved, making this jump more on-purpose...?) Vlad takes her in, Dani assumes he's like her world's Vlad. Later when she learns he's evil, not sure how she'll side. (As she is a version of Danny who's rejected her family, she's going to be selfish and less morally righteous. Ya know, troubled Teen) she likes the power he teaches her, the money she can flaunt. Vlad was there for her. It'll be hard to convince her he's evil, and harder to get her to change sides even then.
It makes Danny have a head ache trying to unpack all this. This is a girl version of himself (talk about awkward) who has everything he could of wanted- popularity, lots of friends, acceptance, skills and money. Danny's jealous. But he doesn't see that Dani is jealous of him. Danny's family, friends, they all love him. When he's Phantom, everyone adores him or fears him.
Dani and Danny are at heart the same person but they've lived completely different lives. Nature vs. Nurture argument. The two are dumb teenagers who don't know how to communicate. They're arch rivals and jerks to each other. It's pure chaos and frustration and it's gonna end with them being good friends. At the end of the day they're both Dan and Halfas. Nobody (except Vlad but he is not a Dan) could understand what's that's like.
Danny and Dani once past their rivalry make a Dan club for Dans only. I want Dan high-school hijinks

I really loved your last prompt fill, Reflection. I can't even describe what emotions it made me feel. Now I'm really curious about a twin au, something set on the other side of the mirror so to speak. I'd love to see your take on something like that.
If you told the Fenton twins they enabled each other, Danny would tell you that's what twins were for, and Andy would say at least they weren't as bad as their parents.
Although the veracity of the first statement was questionable, the second was certainly true. This is why space and astronomy related paraphernalia was limited to the twins' room and pranks only happened a few times a year, while the elder Fentons' ghost hunting gear infested the entire building and spilled out into the yard and a few select public places around town and ghost hunting was a year-round endeavor.
The Fenton children usually responded by doing their best to ignore everything related to ghosts. Usually. Today, that had been a little bit difficult. Today was the day of their parents' greatest triumph!
Except it wasn't. The portal-
"Andy, are you narrating this?"
"So what if I am?" He adjusted the camera to zoom in on his brother's disgruntled face. "You want to go to space, I want to make movies about space. And you've got to admit, the lab does look like the set of a cool SF show."
Danny rolled his eyes. "Sure, except the fake science projects on a set aren't going to come explode on you-"
"Well, actually-"
"That's the exception, not the rule-"
"But it still happened!"
"Ugh, you're impossible. What time is it?"
"According to the camera clock... one fourty-six in the morning."
Danny laughed. "Are you ever going to switch it so it's right?"
"Signs point to no. Hey, I have an idea. I dare you to go in and check it out~"
"Um. No. I don't know how to tell you this, but I'm not dying for your home movie. I'm going to go wait for Sam and Tucker upstairs."
"Come on!" called Andy after Danny. "I'll go with you if you're scared!"
The lab door shut.
"Tch," grumbled Andy. "Whatever." He thumbed the power switch.
.
"And here's the boring lab full of stuff that doesn't work!" said Danny loudly, spreading his hands in presentation. "Can we go back upstairs now?"
"Boring? Just look at all this tech! This would make a great set for a TV show," said Tucker.
"See? See?" said Andy, excitedly. "That's what I said, too. We really are true friends."
"Think your parents would let us use it for an amateur film?" asked Tucker.
"Maybe if they ever 'gave up the ghost,'" said Danny, with air quotes. "Which they aren't. Ever."
"I don't know, Danny, they seemed pretty down after the portal didn't work."
They turned towards the dark, empty hole in the wall.
"Yeah..." said Danny. "They did look kind of sad..."
"Maybe you guys can do something with it," said Sam, adjusting her camera settings to take a picture.
"Sam," complained Andy fiddling with his camera, "stop it, you're messing with my camera brightness..."
Sam stuck out her tongue.
"What do you think we could do?"
"I don't know," said Sam. "Didn't you guys find some wiring issue with that other thing they made? Something silly they overlooked or something?"
"Yeah, that was ages ago and way simpler than this," said Danny.
"I don't know, I think she has a point," said Andy.
"Dare you two to go in," said Sam.
"True frien- Wait, two?"
"Yeah, two heads are better than one. And make for a cooler picture. We could make, like, movie poster mockups or something. Plus, Danny, haven't you ever wondered if there really is another world over there? You could be like an astronaut."
"Ooh, yeah, good point," said Andy. "Do you think we should wear the hazmat?"
"Do I think we should wear protective gear while messing with dangerous lab equipment?"
"Good point, but I was talking about for the picture," said Andy, walking over to the cabinet. "Which one of these is yours and which is mine?"
"Doesn't matter, they're identical," said Danny, leaning over his shoulder and pulling one out. He let it unfold. "I changed my mind, you can have the one with Dad's face."
"It's just a sticker, weirdo." Andy pulled it off. "Ugh, one second... Do you ever wish you had another set of arms...?" He put the camera down.
.
Andy turned the camera back on. "Okay, here we go! Into the portal! To the stars!"
"Or the Ghost Zone, according to Mom and Dad."
"Yep, yep, go on, explore the supposed doorway to the afterlife," said Sam.
"That isn't very sci-fi of you, Sam," said Tucker. He was promptly elbowed.
"Give me some poses!" she said, snapping pictures.
"I thought we were supposed to be looking for what's wrong with the portal," said Danny.
"Come on, it isn't as if you believe in ghosts anyway," said Andy, nudging Danny.
Danny, scowling, took a step away from him and tripped on a wire. He caught himself on the wall and-
Click.
.
"The rest of the video is completely fried," said Tucker. "Should we keep it, or...?"
"Delete it," said Danny.
"Keep it," said Andy.
"I'm getting some mixed messages here," said Tucker.
"I think," said Andy, "that it would be a good idea to have a way to prove we are who we say we are."
"And it has nothing to do with wanting to preserve your camera work?"
"I wouldn't say nothing."

Rewrite Reality trip
For the record, I don’t think this is a bad episode.  In fact there’s quite a bit I really like about it, but I feel like it doesn’t put focus on the right things.  So I want to tweak it.  Mostly the middle.
It begins the same way as the OG episode.  Danny excited for summer break, Freakshow breaks out of the GIW facility with the reality gauntlet, and Danny’s secret identity is exposed to the world on live TV.  The first change I want to make is that instead of Tucker, Sam and Danny banishing the gems away across the country, Tucker manages to take one gem away from the gauntlet and pocket it.  I’m scrapping the cross county search for the gems plot.  As cool as the idea of Danny and friends traveling around looking for cursed objects sounds, I’d rather that plot get it’s own separate episode and not take up the focus here in this one which already has a great hook on it’s own.
Freakshow and Lydia flee, (But dramatically!) Danny escapes the concert with the help of his classmates and tries to get home same as the OG episode.  But now we cut to Valerie.  (You KNOW she should have been in this episode). She wasn’t at the concert because she was covering a shift at Nasty Burger, but she did make it home just in time to see Danny’s secret get revealed on the News.  She is beyond words as to what to make of this but she knows one thing for sure and that’s that she’s got to talk to Danny.
Cut to Jack and Maddie at a lost for words when suddenly the GIW show up at their doorstep, (Not the other parents, or Freakshow yet) At first Jack is excited.  He admires the GIW and is sure they can come to a conclusion about what’s going on.  Nope, instead they treat the Fentons as hostile enemies of the state and they are certain that they’re the ones who experimented on their son to make him half ghost.  Maddie is of course offended at the accusation that she would do something so awful to her kid but the GIW don’t believe her and instead hammer in all the threats she and her husband openly made towards their son and all the seemingly bad things Phantom has done, making Maddie at a lost for words and near tears.  (Instead of the quick 20 seconds of Jazz roasting her parents, I want to really dig into them for their bad parenting).
Danny makes it home but sees his house surrounded by GIW vans.  Jazz helps him and his friends sneak away in the Fenton Blimp.  The GIW see them get away and try to chase after them guns blazing.  Jack yells at them that he’s just a boy but then has a moment of terror when he realizes that his former heroes are going to do the very things he always proclaimed he would do to phantom.
Before the GIW can chase them THAT’s when Freakshow arrives on the scene.  One of his gems is gone but the gauntlet still has some power.  He wipes out all the agents, turning them into popcorn or something circus related and that’s when the Fenton family is captured.
Danny and friends manage to get away but this time it’s Valarie who just missed him, puts a tracker on his ride, vowing to chase him down.  Danny has an idea of where to go to lay low until they can think up a plan.
Cut to Wisconsin.  Danny knocks on Vlad’s mansion door.
Vlad: “Well Daniel, looks like you’re in a bit of trouble.”
Danny: “No Vlad, YOU’RE in a bit of trouble.  The deal was we don’t spill each others secrets but now I have nothing left to loose.  If I’m going down, nothing’s stopping me from revealing your secret to take some of the heat off me, so you’d better make sure I’m not caught.”
At first Vlad is furious over being blackmailed by the teenager, but he comes up with an idea to make Danny finally renounce his father and also get that reality gauntlet for himself.  He uses his Maddie and Jack programs to make a fake call to Danny.  The AI’s use his parent’s voices to tell him that they don’t love him anymore now that they know he’s half ghost and that he can live with Vlad or wherever he wants so long as they don’t ever see him again.  He’s not a Fenton anymore as far as they’re concerned.  Then they hang up.
Danny is beyond devastated but before Vlad, Sam or Tucker can go to talk with him, That’s when Valerie finally tracks them down.  She shoots at him and Danny fights back, both of them are exhausted, heartbroken, and screaming at each other until they both just break down and apologize, finally hugging it out.
Of course that’s when Freakshow shows up with Danny’s family as hostages, demanding his gem back.  The final showdown of the episode begins...
and that is unfortunately all I got.  Please let me know how you would end it. I think maybe I made this rewrite a little too overcrowded but I wanted to include all of the things I initially really wanted from reality trip as an episode and only partially got.

Phantom Children Pt. 5
Hey guys, it's been really busy for me at university so I have no idea when I'll have free time to write this month. Chapter 5 is actually still unfinished, but I didn't want to leave you guys hanging, so here's the first half of chapter 5.
In Which: Another deal is struck upon the ice
AO3 | Prologue | 4 | [ 5 ] | 6
THE PIT SINGS. A low, groaning thing. Muffled like how sounds distort underwater. It reminded Danny of the sounds of Jupiter he would listen to when he really needed to study; the sounds heavily mixed to be more ambient yet still echoing traces of the original, haunting melody of the universe.
The Pit calls for him. No, not the pit—the ectoplasm in the pit is what calls him. Pulls the waves toward him as if he were the moon, bright and full, whispering with garbled voices hello-hello-hello. His core whispers back the same words every time he is near it. Hello-hello-hello. The Pit lingers in the back of his mind and sings in familiar words he does not understand.
Talia calls it a fascination. Ra’s calls it a connection.
A visceral link. Like calls to like. Strange ectoplasmic middle fingers to the laws of the universe—to the great equalizer that is death.
(Danny thinks Ra’s is wrong. Not completely wrong, but not right either.)
When his ghost form is no longer trying to cannibalize his human self, Talia dials up his training. Before, she was merely an observer. Now, she fights him in the ring, teaching him how to dodge with bruised ribs and broken bones. Brutally correcting his stances with harsh jabs and quick strikes. Sweeps him off the floor with a twist of her leg when he forgets how to use his feet. Each day left him with such bone-deep fatigue that mor more once he fell asleep during his sixty minutes in front of the monitor.
They know, now, that the Pit has no adverse effect on him. That he can use the pit more than once.
Bruises and fractures, cuts and scrapes; injuries mean nothing when a dip in green waters will wash everything away.
Even the possibility of insanity starts to feel far-fetched.
Danny should hate this. He should really hate this.
He loved it.
Phantom had always been a fighter. A protector. An underdog matched up against bigger and stronger foes but always somehow coming up on top. He was popular. Liked by the citizens of Amity Park despite his dumpster fire of a reputation near the beginning. Somehow in the year and a half since Phantom’s conception, he went from town menace to this larger-than-life figure. (Ha!) The hero of Amity Park with all of the expectations and responsibilities that came with it.
But Danny—plain, ol’ Danny Fenton—wasn’t any of that. Wasn’t allowed to be any of that. Because Danny Fenton was a wimpy kid who tripped over air and regularly got shoved inside lockers. He was the ghost hunters’ son who was deathly afraid of the paranormal. A C-average student in a family of geniuses.
A persona unwillingly crafted and carefully maintained, because at least this way no one other than Jazz or Wes will be able to connect Fenton to Phantom. Who would believe it?
But here, in Nanda Parbat, he was neither Fenton nor Phantom— he was something more. He had no secret identity to keep from the people who have vigorously researched him. He had no need to hold back.
Here, Danny was free to be Danny.
“Daniel.”
Even if he was called by the wrong-right name.*
Danny floated up from the pit, his transformation seamless as he stepped onto the edge on quiet feet. Tahlia threw him a knapsack. “Ready yourself, we have places to be.”
He raised an eyebrow. “I get my sixty-minutes after the Pit, remember?”
“I did not forget.” She smiled, resting her hand on her hip. “I simply thought that by beloved child might relish a change in scenery.”
Danny perked up, hands tightening around the straps of the knapsack. “We’re going outside?” Tahlia nodded. “Like—outside-outside. With the sky and trees and—and the stars?”
Amusement softened her sharp features, jade eyes sparkling with mirth. “The very same. Though the place we are going to is quite fickle in nature, and I am unsure if we will get another chance to go. But if you really insist on it then—”
“Wait!” He snapped his mouth shut, clutching the bag closer to his chest.
(Family, his core whispered. Family-safe-safe-protect-need-see-confirm-family-home)
The sixty minutes he gets to see his family was…precious. One of the few times the restlessness in his core would draw back; melt away like frost in the spring, leaving some sense of contentment behind. It was his refuge. Sanctuary. Physical proof that what he was doing here—(staying away-away-why-go back-back-return-home-family-home-protect)—meant something.
But.
Outside.
The Pit might have increased his training regiment, but it also allowed him to leave (escorted) the walls of his rooms. And this—
Danny could go outside.
He could go outside.
If he didn’t accept this now, then who knows when the opportunity would arise again? His family wouldn’t mind, right? Jazz did say something about how spending time outdoors is good for one’s health.
He swallowed a lump in his throat. “My…my family will be alright, yes?”
Tahlia cocked her head. “Why wouldn’t they be? You have done nothing wrong that goes against our agreement, and you have progressed wonderfully in your training. I am quite proud.” At Danny’s disquieted expression, she sighed. She raised her hand. “I swear on the blood of the demon—on our blood—that I will honor our agreement and do no harm to the Fentons and your friends during our trip.”
She lowered her hand. “Are you satisfied, habeebi?”
Reluctantly, Danny nods. An agreement from Tahlia is probably the best he could do at this point. “How much time do I have to prepare?” Everything you will need is in that back. Though, it might do you good to dress very warmly.”
----------
Danny’s first breath of fresh air was biting. It filled the lungs crisp and clean, chilled him to the bones though he could feel no cold. Each warm exhale expressed itself in swirling mists, disappearing into the slate gray clouds above. A facsimile of his own ghost sense.
Fenton did not think much of breathing; Phantom did not need it.
Danny had never realized how wonderous it was to breathe.
“We head northeast,” Tahlia called out. Like him, she is bundled in thick black layers with long leather gauntlets strapped at the end of the sleeves. Her bag secured tightly, and a sword strapped to her back. Her long black hair is bound in a tight braid beneath her fur-lined hood.
The path is covered with snow, deep enough that his first few steps past Nanda Parbat’s gates sinks his leg midway up his calf with a loud crunch. It was hardly as deep as some parts in the Far Frozen, but over there Danny had the choice to simple float over. Tahlia trudged through the snow with a preternatural grace. The path ahead was marked only by the faint traces of footprints almost—but not quite—covered with fresh snow.
Among the many things the League had taught him, this was one: the devil is in the details.
They speak little on their trek. Not that Danny particularly minds, absorbed that he was with world around him. Nanda Parbat, he learned, was built high in the mountains. Cocooned from the rest of the world by the snow-capped mountain ranges that surrounded it. A fortress of wood and stone that seemed distinct yet so carefully hidden. The high walls protected the buildings within from view. Its roofs—elongated and curved—and tall towers modelled after east Asian architecture. Though which country, Danny does not know.
Their destination—past a large protrusion of stone that covered the fortress from view once crossed—was a lake. Frozen a pale blue with ice, surrounded by more mountain walls and the opening of a cave off to the side.
Perplexed, he said “What, are we gonna go ice fishing? Just so you kno, I’m not that big of a fan. The last time I went with my dad I was nearly eaten by a sea monster.”
“We should have enough food for this exercise, Daniel. And you need have no fear of sea monsters, this lake is devoid of any such creatures.” Once they reached the mouth of the cave, she unstrapped her bag, setting it against the stone wall. Danny mimicked the motion. “We are here to train.”
“With…?”
She gestures to the katana strapped to his back.
“With swords.”
A nod.
“On the ice?”
She smiled, leading him to the edge of the frozen lake. “It has become something of a family tradition of the al Ghuls, to cross blades upon the ice.” She plants a steady foot on the lake, walking towards the center with long strides.
Danny followed behind her with some trepidation. He wouldn’t die from frostbite, he was sure, and if he fell he could always fly himself out. But that didn’t stop him from flinching at the rumbling sounds the ice made beneath his feet.
“My father trained both your father and I on this lake.” Tahlia unsheathed her sword as she took her place across from Danny. “And as your father no doubt trained Damian on his own lake, I have the pleasure of training you.” She slipped into a stance. “On your mark.”
Danny slipped into his own stance, feet apart, both hands on the hilt. Then, something nudged at the back of his mind. “Who’s Damian?”
Tahlia tilted her blade, the polished sword gleaming and sharp. “Your brother. Now—begin!”
“Wait, wha—” Danny barely managed to parry the blow.
Sparks flew as blades crossed and Danny twisted off to the side.
He slipped. Head meeting the ice, the deep crackling sound of the lake making him tense.
Tahlia points the tip of her blade against his chest. A single elegant brow arched high in dissatisfaction. Danny glared at her, brushing the fringes of his hair away from his face. “To be fair, you shouldn’t say stuff like that right before a fight. You caught me off guard.”
“If you find yourself in a fair fight, you have failed to prepare enough.” She sheathed her sword before extending an arm to help Danny to his feet. “The goal of a fight is to end it—no matter the cost. Now, take you place.”
Danny picked up his sword, then, hesitates. He looked up at Tahlia. “Did you mean what you said?” Do I have a brother?
Tahlia smiled, drawing her blade once more. “Impress me and you’ll find out.”
Danny narrowed his eyes.
“Now—”
He adjusted his stance. You’re on.
“Begin!”
Danny lunged.

danny phantom 14-20 thoughts!! I finished up s1 :D these last few eps were actually really really good!!!
-did. did tucker really just say esperanto was a dead language only spoken as a secret code between geeks. google says around 100,000 people actively speak it. oh my god...it being an auxiliary language doesn't mean its 'just for geeks to speak in code' ...it helps bridge gaps between people who don't have a language in common...
-danny really isn't pulling punches when it comes to fighting the ghost-cop possessed people huh. like he SLAMMED KWAN INTO THE CONCRETE SO HARD. HE THREW PAULINA INTO A BILLBOARD. will that...I mean it WOULD carry over to their bodies non-possessed, right? like if the ghost piloting their bodies gets hurt?? itd be so upsetting to be possessed, lose time, then wake up covered in bruises (and possibly, broken bones??) real horror movie stuff im sure wont be addressed in any way
-tuckers parents seem nice! I like them :)
-WULF IS CUTE AND I FEEL BAD. im so glad the gang realized he was only causing trouble bc of the shock collar walker put on him and helped. also, him wearing that big hoodie with the hood on, and thinking its subtle. we can tell youre still a giant wolfie :) THEN GETTING SUCKED INTO THE PORTAL AAAAH :( anxiously waiting to see Him Again....
-DANNY BLASTING HIS PARENTS THINKING THEY WERE OVERSHADOWED LMFAO GET THEIR ASSES. maddie marking how many ghosts she gets with lipstick tallies on the side of her portal gun? kindaaa iconic tho. (ALSO, SHE WAS LIKE, 2 FT AWAY FROM HIM RIGHT AFTER SHE TRIED TO SHOOT HIM. HOW DO YOU NOT RECONINZE YOUR OWN SON??? like sure, he might have diff hair/eye colors. but like, if one of my family members dyed their hair, and was wearing contacts, its not like id be like 'wHO IS THIS STRANGER!!!' ...he still has all his facial features!! same everything!!! I hate it here)
-paulina being #1 girl realizing danny's a friendly ghost immediately. smart queen. lancer and kwan ran away right after he made this sweet baby face at them:
Tumblr media
which is hilarious.
-ok. im not saying his bullying is JUSTIFIED, but. dash looked so pleased with the (cute!) poster he just painted, and danny comes thru the wall and spills paint on his nice letterman jacket. his anger is justified maybe 65% of the time so far...(not the way he handles it, but STILL.) at least lancer is stepping in!! and them making a silly little bet was...cute?? until dash pulled out his GROSS UNDERWEAR AND SAID DANNY WOULD HAVE TO EAT THEM???? WHAT THE FUCK MAN. TUCKER WAS SO RIGHT ITS FUCKING WEIRD TO CARRY THOSE AROUND EWWW. THIS KID IS UNWELL. lancer was right, his animatronic setup was SUPER IMPRESSIVE?? hes actually pretty creative. danny meanwhile is stealing the fright knight's design...I hope dash is taking art classes or smth with his sports
-fright knight is the most bestest ghost so far i LOVE THAT DESIGN. I am biased towards knights, and characters with swords, but he fucks so severely. and should sue danny for copyright infringement for stealing his design for his haunted house. if some 14 yr old broke into MY house and stole MY sword, id also be pissed. his evil winged unicorn rules too with its FANGS. and he just CAN SHOVE THE PORTAL OPEN WITH HIS HANDS??? is he the strongest ghost weve seen so far? idk but hes my fav. SOUL SHREDDER IS SUCH A COOL SWORD NAME TOO. ANY NAMED SWORD ALSO FUCKS. 'flaming bedsheets of DEATH' funny king. ALSO he was polite to dash and tucker when just asking for directions and telling tucker 'oh maybe, just a suggestion, maybe be nicer to me and be more respectful :)' I LOOOVE HIM.
-I noticed this in the Ember ep, but jazz has an electric guitar in her room!! talent musical queen!! its cool to see hobbies just in the bg.
-fright knight's murder castle reminds me of the booby trapped murder castle in zexal!! another supposedly 'for kids' show with murder/trap castles! we love that. if you are a dp fan reading this, give yugioh zexal a try. its also got 13-14 year old protags and involves (alien) ghosts. the cardgame is just a vessel for the plot, which is really good. (I just want more people to watch my fav yugioh, man)
-danny. with a SWORD.
-danny doesnt NEED TO WIN this contest, dash didnt STEAL HIS DESIGNS AND STEAL A SWORD. he also got excited to hear lancer got sent to a dimension with his worst fears too just so he could win the contest? DANNY WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!! BRO MAYBE YOURE 14 AND HAVENT FULLY DEVOLPED YOUR WHOLE BRAIN YET, BUT...THATS FUCKED. this kid casually says the most deranged things, I do worry for my spooky son. once again, therapy needed. that judo toss was great tho. I wonder if he actually did pick up some martial arts stuff from his mom?
-danny can fly 112 mph!!! thats so fast! I love the lil montage of him and his friends testing his abilities and stuff, very cute and a good way to showcase what he can do by now and how much more proficient he's gotten from ep 1!!! I'm sure he's going to get more abilities :)
-im glad...maddie's at least TRYING this ep. I do feel for her because her husband is a man baby. but the fact it took 16 episodes to get a kinda semblance of any kind of real concern or attempts at bonding. hmm. jack's 'BACK OFF SHES A MINOR' @ the ghost trying to attack jazz. also was very funny. and him wanting to make an action figure of her? are the parents redeeming themselves to me? slightly. they gotta Work Harder
-THE GHOST. IS FLYING. THE PLANE.
-fenton machete. but she doesnt carry a PHONE??? ???
-I mean I expected vlad when you namedrop him earlier in the ep, and also the title card picture, and dalv corp being fucking vlad backwards. but seeing him just pull up on a golf cart made me bust out laughing. WITH the gift baskets prepared. why wouldnt you at least be suspicious. also, if he wants danny to be his lil sonboy, why is he so fucking malicious?? dude you are going about this in such a bad way. stop it. get some help.
-maddie not even hesitating to drag danny out. fucking good. danny is so right, go on the internet to date. get a cat. how do you spend...how many years?? has it been since college?? at least 20, right, since the parents/vlad are in their 40s? hung up on ONE girl. my god, man. incel drama queen. her kung fu IS impressive, but dude. 'we both know hes a creep' SO right. it sucks but they do need a phone and shit being in the middle of NOWHERE. also, just stealing his helicopter was great. <3
-'you must be exhausted carrying the weight of that mistake you made years ago' 'well we all make mistakes. maybe I'll make one now!' WHY DID THIS EXHCHANGE SEND ME. AND VLAD WITH THE BREATH SPRAY EWWW BITCH. 'OLD BAIT BREATH' SOO RIGHT. both danny and his mom playing him HAHAH hes so dumb. or rather, I think he thinks with his emotions too too much and is...actually pretty gullible? lmao he believed danny was ready to give in SO fast. (which is sad hes that hopeful, like you have SO MUCH MONEY YOU COULD EASILY GET ANOTHER GIRL WHO HAS A KID. AND WOULD WANT TO BE WITH YOU AND BE SUPPORTED. GET OVER THIS (1) WOMAN ALREADY IM GETTING SECONDHAND EMBARRASSMENT AAAAH)
-GHOST BEAR GHOST BEAR GHOST BEAR. it was also in the title card, but I still got very excited. we love bears here
-SAM'S BAT SWIMSUIT COVERUP!!! her outfits are simply iconic.
-'i'd tell you to go to the mens room, but I don't think you qualify' top paulina transphobic moments. :( and him wearing a tanktop to the swim park? hmmm! (actually I think she was overshadowed by then, so, KITTY top 10 transphobic moments??)
-kitty just piloting paulina around makes me feel SO bad tho, paulina's gonna wake up and be like 'wtf do you mean I was dating this rando' like youre leading danny on to make johnny jealous, and also just POSSESSING POOR PAULINA. dude take your relationship problems ELSEWHERE. last time we saw them, they seemed like such a cute couple!! wtf johnny!! I mean, she sucks for trying to make him jealous, he sucks for looking at other girls...maybe they need a break, but Not Like This. or, you know, just. better communication...
-and the A-listers having a full packet and a stamp system. who organizes this. kwan fucking owning being the new danny though, this is hysterical. THE TUCKER/KWAN FLOWER FIELD TWIRL. UNIRONICALLY ADORABLE. and him giving it his all for the poetry slam. bless his HEARTTTT.
-Star owns. actually, all of the extra characters are shining this ep and I love it.
-INVISO-BILL??? NOOOO THEY DID HIM SOO DIRTY. DANNY SWEETIE IM SO SORRY.
-johnny and danny bein friends and staging a fake fight (which danny takes too seriously, once again this child has aggression he NEEDS TO WORK OUT) I hope these three stay friends, I said it before but danny needs more friendly ghosts to hang with.
-at this point, Danny's ghost enemies are a lot like, I dunno, batman's rouge gallery is the first thing that comes to mind. they all have their own gimmick and unique designs, but most of them are easy to beat after learning the Moral Lesson. I still get excited when any of them show up again, though. 18 is another valerie episode!!!! :D skulker really said you two will get along if I have to handcuff you together <3 and the gym teacher really said, youre married now, have a flour baby! ngl, I'm not really watching this show for the shipping stuff (which I am very scared to look at the fandom for after I finish this watch through- I feel like there's probably discourse/arguing about ships...) but. I'm gonna put my opinion out there. valerie/danny > sam/danny. maybe I just really love the enemies to lovers trope. And the secret identity stuff adds Extra Flavor.
-SKULKER JUST HAVING THE BOX GHOST AND DANGLING HIM BY A STRING. HILARIOUS. and him watching them with binoculars and making his silly little commentary. AND MAKING THE SACK BABY CRY. LMAO. THIS DUDE IS A BABY KIDNAPPER. skulker is super fun
-danny, you just...collapsed the water tower. and then attacked the nasty burger machine...mascot thingy...out of anger..I KEEP SAYING HE'S GOT ANGER ISSUES BUT. HE REALLY NEEDS A LESSON IN MANAGING COLLATERAL DAMAGE!!! So does valerie!! They're both pretty focused on each other. I mean it's good of Danny to say he's trying to make sure PEOPLE don't get hurt, but... (I mean I guess it's not something 14 year olds WOULD worry about, but as an adult im like, who's going to fix that? how much money will that take??)
-TUCKER MAKING BANK. and sam and tucker being super emotionally attached to their flour baby and being pretty good parents. that's cute...also him just straight kissing her and being like. WAIT. O_O JDSKAFHD. his mom baking them into cookies was the funniest possible result. tbh I dont feel like this is on tucker, if anything the other kid's shouldve been more responsible! He was just taking an opportunity to get that $$ which I respect
-Danny being more understanding of Valerie's situation in the end (helping her at her job, too, and trying to keep that a secret for her!!!) And seeing them work together this ep, and also her letting phantom get her out of the ghost zone...was very sweet. LOVE that. more valerie eps pls
-me when I realize vlad's big stupid house exploded because of his own carelessness with changing the ghost portal ectofiltrator or whatever: *pointing and laughing*
-me when I realize it means he's gonna go make danny's life hell for it somehow: >:(
Tumblr media
-SCOOBY PARODY!!! I feel like there's gotta be some scooby doo/danny phantom crossover stuff, right? also, 'guys in white' men in black wishes
-'oh, that's right! dad married the love of your life! you're bitter and alone!' DANNNNNYY GET HIS ASS ONCE AGAIN WE ARE POINTING AND LAUGHING AT VLAD
-'jack, you captured the ghost boy!!' UMM. he did nothing <3 'we have a weapon's vault??' YOU HAVE A WEAPONS VAULT??? and jack didnt put a handle on the inside. of fucking course he didnt! why would you leave that to your son!! or expect him to clean YOUR LAB when its where you work with probably dangerous chemicals and weapons and hes 14!! give him normal chores, like, I dunno, vacuuming, laundry, dishes...CMON. I hate it here. But I'm glad Jack is more chill about danny while he's a ghost, and willing to work with him for this ep. AND. I DID ENJOY JACK PUNCHING VLAD IN THE FACE. AND GENERALLY JUST OWNING HIM. the ghost punchy fists are actually amazing. like yeah, just punch a ghost in the face. that rules.
Tumblr media
-ep 20 opens with the coolest fucking ghost lady design. her tattoos can come off and fight. MA'AM. I like ur nose ring and your cape maam hello 👉👈😳
-sam's grandma is hilarious and the most valid member of her family and I love her. thats my grandma now. and tucker covering for sam by dressing as her. thats true friendship <3 also skipping school to go to a goth circus. just bestie things! sam's parents are haters but for all the wrong reasons.
-'my family has controlled ghosts with this for generations!' WAIT. WAIT FREAKSHOW /ISNT/ A GHOST? I didn't expect that...he's just a fucked up guy controlling ghosts? anyway watching danny shoot at police cars and rob banks while mind controlled. its like, the most stereotypical 'bad' things lmao. (tbh an evil ghost circus troupe is a sick concept)
Tumblr media
this gives off big deviantart emo edit vibes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I'm going to assume evil circus reaper danny has a lot of fan content. people love an edgy au, except this one is canon (even tho its via mind control...having the protag go evil otherwise might be hard, I guess?) but au where he stays with the troupe...that has to exist, right?)
ANYWAY. excited to start s2!! lowkey surprised by how many notes some of these posts have gotten. I've gone back and tagged them all with 'dp thoughts' so they're easier to find on my blog! ^^ and I will probably possibly do (more) fanart on my art blog after I finish the watch of the whole show, so like. @sanchoyodraws follow my art blog :)

Okay here’s an idea:
A while back I found a Danny Phantom/RWBY crossover where Danny somehow ends up in Remnant and Jaune is his son. Now the actual story is not very good because the author is probably like 13, but I loved the idea; I mean Jaune wanting to be a hero to follow his father’s footsteps but not because of his secret superpowers, I dunno it got me.
Except I started overthinking it, and kinda realize that actually Jaune being his canon self but having a mysterious origin is more interesting to me, and eventually discarded Jaune being Danny’s son and had a better idea! Jaune is Jazz’s son.
So this is the idea I have now:
Jazz Fenton falls into a portal or something and lands on Remnant; she tries to find a way back home, but after a few years she accepts she might never returns to Earth and settles down with her kinda-boyfriend a scientist named Arc, the 2 were working together and fell in love, they still try though. Anyway, Jazz and Arc get married and have 8 children; Jazz mostly keeps her origins secret (her full name “Jasmine” fits the color rule, so it’s not even suspicious!) but her kids know, in fact they grew up with their mother’s stories of hunting ghosts and of their uncle Danny who is half-ghost!
I think we all know where this is going; eventually people from Earth create a permanent portal to Remnant and exchange and politics happen, you know stuff, and one of the people involved happen to be one Daniel Fenton, and the portal happens to open to Beacon Academy where one Jaune Arc is studying. So yeah, Danny meets Jaune and the two get along not knowing they’re related; Danny thinks Jaune is a great kid (and kinda reminds him of someone, but can’t place him) and Jaune thinks Danny is super cool.
There’s multiple ways Danny can find out where his missing sister went, like for example her showing up; but the one I want is that Jaune realizes who Danny is and tells him. It’s like this, eventually Danny is forced to transform and fight (he still has a secret identity because fuck season 3) and Remnanties are like “What the fuck?” and Earthlings are like “Yeah that’s Phantom, he’s a real life superhero!” and Ruby is geeking out so hard; but Jaune is different, Jaune knows what’s up and it’s in awe, he knows who Phantom really is and cannot believe it! So after danger passes Jaune goes to Danny in private and he’s like “You’re Phantom” Danny denies it badly, but Jaune is like “No, no you don’t understand! You’re Uncle Danny!” Danny is like “what?” and Jaune is like “My mom is Dr Jasmine Arc she’s from Earth and was stranded here 30 years ago. She told me all about her adventures fighting ghosts and her superhero brother, and that’s you! Which means you’re my uncle!” Danny is like “holy crap, Jazz is here?”
So Jaune sends his mom a message and next day, Jazz is here and reunites with her brother after decades of separation; it’s very emotional. Also all her daughters show up eventually and Danny’s like “how many kids do you have?” and everyone else is like “Jaune, how many sisters do you have?” (also they totally tease him, being the baby and all); and of course the daughters are also in awe of Danny and most definitively want to see his powers.
Now, this is Vol1-3, has Adrian being born yet? I mean, Saphron comes with Terra in tow, obviously, but do they have Adrian yet? It’d be cute if Danny finds his sister after so many years and she’s a grandma!
Also Danny should probably have kids no? I’m not so sure on what happened on Earth during the years Jazz was stuck on Remnant

Submitted by @that-dumbass-on-a-horse: Ghost sickness. Maddie and Jack try to fix it, but make it worse instead
Summary: When a ghost boy becomes a ghost man, his body goes through certain changes. And when his parents find out and try to help him, they inevitably almost kill him in the process. Almost.
Warnings: non-graphic body horror (melting)
Word count: 7248
I had to look up pictures of blood cells under a microscope and that was actually super cool. I love it when fanfiction involves fun research
As soon as Maddie saw the green flush on Danny's cheeks, she knew what it was. Some dastardly ectoplasmic pathogen from the Ghost Zone had infected her baby boy. It must have been from all the time he spent in the lab. Too many times, Maddie had caught him sneaking up from the basement with a sheepish look on his face. Occasionally, Sam and Tucker were with him. Maddie would have to get them tested for whatever illness currently afflicted Danny.
"I'm telling you, I feel fine," Danny said, looking anything but fine. He lay in bed, cheeks flushed an unearthly green. Sweat shone on his forehead.
"Good try, mister. Maybe I'll believe you when you stop covering your mouth like you have to puke," Maddie chastised her son. Standing with her hand on her hip, she shook her head. She had heard of teens faking illness to get out of school; it was so touching to know her boy wasn't like that.
"Mom, really, I'm fine," Danny insisted. He covered his mouth as he spoke, earning a very pointed glare from Maddie.
"I've already called the school. They know you're staying home today. Don't worry, your father and I will get you fixed up."
Panic and desperation filled Danny's eyes. It warmed Maddie's heart to see it. Who knew he cared so much about his classes? With how his grades had been dropping over the past year, she thought he had given up on school.
After pinning Danny with one last stern look, Maddie left his room and headed down to the kitchen. There should be a few packages of chicken noodle soup in the pantry for her to make. They usually kept a well-stocked supply dry soups, pastas, and other side dishes for the days dinner came to life. Maddie scanned the shelves, dragging her fingers across the various boxes, and grinned when she found the one she wanted. Pulling it out, she saw there was only one package left. It looked like they would need to restock soon.
Maddie quickly set to work making the soup, throwing the mixture of noodles and powder into a pot of water, turning the stove on low to simmer, and setting the oven timer to remind herself when to check it. With that done, she headed down to the lab.
Jack was hunched over his workstation, beakers laid out on the counter in front of him. Bubbling mixtures of various consistencies and colours filled the beakers, steam rising from more than a few even though they weren't set over heat.
"Danny's staying home today," she told Jack. "I think he caught a ghost bug."
"No son of mine is gonna get taken down but a ghost! I'll squash it like a fly!"  declared.
Maddie smiled fondly and shook her head. "No, Jack. Not a bug ghost, a ghost bug. He's sick."
"Oh. Well, we'll squash that sickness anyway! And then we'll squash the ghost that gave it to him! And then we'll squash Phantom!"
"You said it, honey!" She kissed Jack on the cheek before heading to her own station. Taking a test sample kit out from the cupboard, she pulled out a Fenton Swab and a Fenton Tube. They were nearly identical to the standard cotton swab and sample tube they were modelled after, except the Fenton versions were designed to withstand ectoplasm's acidic properties. They also had the word Fenton on them.
"Whatcha doing, Mads?" Jack asked, briefly looking up from his work.
"I want to rule out environmental factors. Danny spends so much time down here, and he never wears a jumpsuit since his got misplaced. We need to make sure the portal doesn't contain any contagions that could make others sick," she explained. Sticking her thumb against the DNA scanner, she opened the portal doors.
Green light spilled over the lab floor, rippling over the metal panels. Carefully, Maddie took the Fenton Swab and stuck it in the portal's swirling mass. It wasn't like sticking something in water. The ectoplasm in the portal had no resistance. Even though it looked opaque from afar, up close it more resembled a colourful mist. Swirling her hand around, she dragged the swab through the ectoplasm, coating it thoroughly.
It was mesmerizing. Despite how long she and Jack had studied ectoplasm for, she still didn't understand how its state of matter worked. It could go from solid to gas in an instant, or hang in the air like a fog and become liquid the moment it touched something. Sometimes it took minutes to dissipate, other times it took hours. There were so many contradicting circumstances, it was fascinating.
Perhaps ectoplasm was its own state of matter that couldn't be defined by Earthly physics.
Maddie waited until ectoplasm was practically dripping off the cotton end before pulling her hand back out, dropping the swab into the sample tube. Analyzing it would be easy enough. They had studied samples from the portal before, but ectoplasm's most consistent trait was how inconsistent it was. You could take two ectoplasmic samples from a single entity one week apart and their surface properties would be completely different.
The one core characteristic was a unique pattern of crystallization, visible with careful observation under a microscope. Each ghost seemed to have their own pattern. In some cases, they were highly personal. The ghost who liked to shout about boxes all the time had a square crystallization pattern.
If she could isolate the ectoplasm making Danny sick, she could compare the pattern with the portal and see if they matched. If they did, then she could study the rest of the portal sample and see what was making Danny sick.
Maddie tapped her foot as she placed a drop of ectoplasm on a slide and put it under the microscope, setting the rest of the sample aside for later testing.
"No need for that!"
Maddie paused just before putting her eye to the lens, turning to face Jack instead.
He grinned widely at her, holding out one of the beakers from his desk. "I've got our solution right here!" He wiggled the beaker. The thick purple substance inside barely jiggled. "It's the newest version of ecto-dejecto. This time, it actually works."
Reaching out, Jack took the sample Maddie had put aside. He stuck the swab into the purple goo; it stayed standing upright when he let go. The goo around the swab hissed and steamed.
"Is it supposed to do that?" Maddie asked.
"Uh, maybe?"
Green bubbles bloomed across the top layer of goo, quickly expanding upward. Jack yelped and dropped the beaker as the ectoplasm foamed over his hand. The beaker shatterd as soon as it hit the ground, glass shards going flying. The goo kept expanding, fizzing and frothing as it changed from purple to green, growing until it was a mound as big as a medium sized dog. With a few final hisses, the ectoplasm settled.
"It doesn't work yet, but it will," Jack said, confidence unshaken.
"I know it will," Maddie said. She had complete faith in her husband. Jack might bumble around sometimes, but his mind was truly brilliant. Where other people looked at things and saw only what was on the surface, Jack saw everything. He always excelled more on the chemistry side of things, even if he had a few mishaps every now and then.
It's what made them such a good team. Maddie handled the math, physics, and most of the weapon construction while Jack handled the ideas. She brought his head out of the clouds when he went too far. He raised her up so she could see all the possibilities and push them farther.
"Well, hey, I've got more ectoplasm to test with now," Jack said. He bent down and prodded the quivering mass.
In the silence, Maddie heard the oven beeping upstairs.
"Oh, shoot, Danny's soup." Maddie leapt out of her seat. She snatched a spare swab and sample tube from the counter and took off for the stairs. "Don't forget to clean up the glass!" She tossed the words over her shoulder, hoping Jack heard her.
On the stove, the pot was boiling over. Water hissed as it doused the element, steam and smoke clouding over the stove. Maddie grabbed a tea towel and shoved the pot off the element, accidentally splashing more water out.
"Oh, no," she grumbled, shutting off the stove. She took in the mess with a defeated sigh. There was more soup on the counter than there was in the pot. The timer must have gone off some time ago, or she had set it for too long. Tossing the tea towel over the spilled soup, she left it there to soak up some of the mess and went to the fridge instead, hoping they had something she could give Danny.
Her prospects were slim. Some questionable lunch meat that was about to expire. A door full of condiments. A ceramic pot that rattled every few seconds. Its lid was tied down to keep the reanimated fruit cocktail from escaping. Overall, the fridge was woefully empty. Maddie really needed to go grocery shopping.
She ended up taking a carton of orange juice from the door, pouring a glass, and decided Danny would have to settle for this until she came back from the store.
"Danny, sweetie?" Maddie asked, gently knocking on his door. It creaked open. Peeking inside, she saw his empty bed. A clatter from the bathroom drew her attention. "Oh, Danny." She shook her head, setting the glass of orange juice down on his dresser, and headed down the hall.
The door was shut. Soft white light shone underneath it, not nearly as bright as it should have been. One of the lights above the mirror must have burnt out again. Gently, she knocked and called Danny's name.
"Uh, just a minute!" Danny said.
The light under the door flared, then settled. Maddie heard the toilet flushing, followed by a quick burst of water from the tap. Finally, the knob turned, the lock clicking out of place, and Danny eased the door open. He kept one hand over his mouth.
"Hey, Mom. What brings you here?" he asked. Behind his palm, Maddie saw his lips twitch into a smile.
"You do, young man. I told you to stay in bed," Maddie said, crossing her arms.
"Bathroom. Had to go. You know how it is," Danny said. Using his elbow, he bumped the door open wider, his other hand pressed against his head. He squeezed past Maddie and shuffled backward toward his room. "But bed sounds like a great idea. In fact, I think I'll have a nap. No need to check on me or anything. You don't even need to open the door!"
He chuckled weakly, sidling into his room, and kicked the door shut.
Maddie wasn't sure what to make of all that. Danny hadn't even shut off the bathroom light. Reaching through the doorway to do just that, she noticed something odd. The toilet lid was down. Danny had the habit of leaving it up, no matter how much she reminded him not to. It was a small detail, but an curious one nonetheless. She decided not to dwell on it. More than likely, he was finally starting to build up the habit.
Maddie was halfway down the stairs when she remembered she needed a spit sample from Danny. Heading back up, she paused on the landing when she heard Danny talking, voice low.
"I don't know what's wrong." He sounded panicked. "I've only been awake for a couple hours but it's getting worse."
Maddie stopped. Instead of pushing Danny's door open, she crept forward, holding her ear against it. While she would never let Danny get away with eavesdropping, as his concerned mother, she had the right to listen in on his conversation.
"I don't know. My mouth was kind of hurting yesterday, but that's a whole other thing, right?"
There was a moment of silence.
"Tucker! I'm being serious here! First it was the blush, and then it was my hair." Maddie frowned at that. "What's next? My eyes?"
Danny's dresser rattled—she hoped he saw the orange juice—and he groaned. "Yep, it's the eyes now!"
Maddie really should go in there. Her baby was clearly panicking and needed her help.
"I don't care about my teeth!"
In a minute. She would go in, in a minute.
"Ugh, fine, whatever." Maddie heard Danny shuffling around, drawers opening and closing. It lasted for a full thirty seconds before he spoke again. "Okay, I got it. Happy now?" His words slurred slightly, as if he wasn't closing his mouth all the way.
Deciding enough was enough, Maddie pushed the door open without knocking. "Sorry, Danny, I forgot that I... needed..." The excuse died on her lips as she got a good look at Danny.
Green swirled in his eyes and a white streak cut through his hair. Danny spit out the large Saturn pendant of his chewable necklace and whispered into his phone. "Tucker, I got to go." Tossing his phone back into his bed, he stepped forward and raised his hands in a placating gesture. "Mom, I can explain."
"Oh, my poor baby, you're so much worse than I thought," Maddie said. She rushed forward, taking Danny's face in her hands, and turned his head to the side so she could examine the streak in his hair. His bangs were white from root to tip. Using her thumb and forefinger, she pulled his eye open wide and examined his iris.
It looked like the infection was spreading. She thought it was a simple case of contamination, but that wouldn't do this. The green blush, yes, but changing his hair and eyes? Altering his physical and chemical makeup? This was serious.
"I'm sorry, Danny. Your nap has to wait. You're coming down to the lab with me now." Taking Danny by the wrist, Maddie pulled him out of his room.
"It's really not what you think!" Under his breath, he added, "I hope it's not what I think, either."
"Danny, your father and I are experts. Whatever you think it is, it isn't. Your dad is working on a cure right now. But at the rate this is accelerating, I can't let you out of my sight. I have to check all your vitals and keep detailed notes about how this progresses," Maddie said. "This is nothing like the ghost flu your father and I had."
"I still say that was just a regular flu."
"Now is not the time for your sass." Maddie dragged Danny all the way down to the lab.
Glass no longer littered the floor, although the blob of ectoplasm still sat beside Maddie's chair. Pulling the chair out, she pushed Danny into the seat and wheeled him across the lab to the medical station. Setting him out of the way in the hollow of the safety shower, Maddie opened the cupboard beneath the eyewash station and pulled out what she needed.
Beyond the run of the mill first-aid kit, the lab had a few tools you would find in a standard health clinic.
Danny squirmed and tried to leave his seat a few times, but Maddie kept pushing him back down. She didn't let him stand until she had taken his vitals, checked his eyes, nose, and throat, and gave him a thorough physical exam.
"Mom!" Danny whined when Maddie lifted shirt. She ignored him, looking over his body for signs of discolouration. There weren't any, yet. She suspected it was only a matter of time.
"Jack, how's that ecto-dejecto coming?" she asked.
"Almost got it!"
"Ecto-dejecto?" Danny paled.
Maddie sent him a reassuring smile. "It's okay. We're fixing the recipe so that it destabilizes the ectoplasm rather than makes it stronger. It will make it easier for your body to flush out the toxins." Her eyes dropped to the pendant around Danny's neck, his conversation with Tucker returning to mind. "What was Tucker talking about with your teeth?"
She had only spared them a brief glance when checking Danny's through, more concerned with hidden rashes or pustules.
"You were spying on me?" Danny's cheeks flushed in anger. "So not cool!"
"Danny, I'm your mother and I'm worried about you. You're sick."
"I'm fine! That doesn't make it okay to spy on me."
"You'll understand when you're older."
Danny tipped his head back and groaned.
"Now, open your mouth."
Danny squinted at her, which earned him nothing but a motherly glare. Stubborn but relenting, he slowly opened his mouth. Maddie rolled her eyes at her son's antics. Once his mouth was open wide enough, she checked his teeth. Nothing looked out of the ordinary.
"What's bothering you about them?" she asked. The hair and eyes were undoubtedly ghost-related matters. So far, Maddie was inclined to agree with Danny that his mouth pains were simply a coincidence.
"My gums just started hurting yesterday. Like there was a lot of pressure or something," Danny explained.
"And the necklace?"
"Chewing on something kind of helped, I guess. That was the first time I tried it, but it felt okay."
Something about that resonated with Maddie. She leaned back, frowning. It sounded like what happened when children teeth. When Danny was a baby growing in his teeth for the first time, he chewed on everything to make it stop hurting. Maddie had to throw out so many of his stuffed animals because he chewed on them until they were too dirty to keep.
"Can you pull your lips down?"
Danny obliged, raising his chin so Maddie could get a better look. The gums looked fine, no bumps or bulges, and his teeth were still in line.
"Top lip," she said.
Hooking his finger under his lip, Danny pulled it up. Maddie's eyes widened immediately. On the left side, between his canine tooth and lateral incisor, the sharp tip of a new tooth poked out of his gums. It looked like it was growing over his other teeth.
"You have an extra tooth," she declared.
"A what?" Danny shouted. He ran his fingers along his top teeth, pausing to feel the new one growing in.
"It's fine," Maddie said, waving off his concern. "Your father had one growing behind his incisor in college. He just had to get it removed. It's not related to whatever this," she gestured to his hair and eyes, "is."
"Oh." Danny deflated, looking relieved, although he didn't take his finger out of his mouth. He kept touching the new tooth. Swivelling in the chair, he leaned toward the wall, examining his reflection in the shining surface.
"Mads! I did it!" Jack's heavy steps thudded across the lab as he pounded over.
Content that Danny was occupied and wouldn't slip away the second she took her eyes off him, Maddie focused on Jack. He bounced on his heels, holding out a test tube filled to the brim with a yellow-tinged liquid.
"It's all about using the ectoplasm's natural properties against itself. If we can lock it in a liquid state, the ectoplasm loses hold of its form and liquifies! Just watch." He scurried back to Maddie's workstation.
With a careful tip of his hand, he poured a single drop of ecto-dejecto on the solidified ectoplasm. Sickly yellow patches spread across its surface. The ectoplasm started breaking down. Sloughing off in chunks, layer upon layer melted away, dripping down to the floor until only a wide green puddle remained.
"It's perfect! Pass me the syringe."
Jack got the needle ready in record time. Maddie wasn't concerned about giving Danny the ecto-dejecto without doing trials on living creatures first. Anti-ectoplasmic agents, by their very nature, did not harm living tissue. They isolated and attacked ectoplasm and ectoplasm alone. For this reason, anti-ghost weaponry was completely harmless to humans. Ghost shields, ghost guns, none of them could hard people.
It was also was the very same reason why Maddie and Jack did not have strict rules barring Danny and Jazz from the lab. They wanted their children to be curious. What better way to promote an interest in science then let them explore it in a safe manner with chemicals and compounds that would not harm them?
Danny was still examining his reflection, although he was probing something on the right side of his mouth instead.
Maddie pushed up his t-shirt sleeve. "Hold still, sweetie," she said, and stabbed his shoulder with the needle. Pressed the plunger, she injected him with the ecto-dejecto.
"Ow!" Danny flinched, jerking around to face Maddie. His gaze caught on the needle in her hand. "What was that?"
"Don't worry, you'll be all better by tomorrow," Maddie assured him.
"No, really." Danny stood up. He swayed, careening into the wall, and gasped. Staring down at his hands, he flexed his trembling fingers. "Seriously." He looked up at Maddie, helpless. "What was that?"
His eyes rolled back, and he collapsed.
"Danny!" Maddie dropped to her knees beside him, Jack joining her a second later. Panic overwhelmed her. That shouldn't have happened. The ecto-dejecto was perfect. It should have worked flawlessly. Instead, Danny's skin around the injection site was quickly turning a dark, sickly green. His breathing was shallow, and his eyelids fluttered.
Pressing two fingers to Danny's neck, Maddie felt his pulse, erratic. What happened? What went wrong? What did Maddie do? She couldn't shake the feeling that she had just sent Danny to his grave.
"Mads." Jack's voice snapped her out of her spiralling thoughts. "We need to get him to the hospital. I'll carry him up to the RV. You call Jazz. We'll get her taken out of school."
"Right. Right." Maddie nodded, swallowing thickly. She had never been more thankful to have Jack by her side. Right when her vision started narrowing and all she could see was one outcome—Danny dead, Maddie his murderer—Jack was there to pull her up.
Moving back, she gave Jack room to gather Danny up. Jack was a big man, with thick arms and heavy-looking hands, but he cradled Danny so gently, as if he was a baby again.
"See the big picture, focus on the little steps," Jack said.
"Big picture, little steps," Maddie repeated. The words rang out in her head, over and over like a mantra. Big picture, little steps. Saving Danny, calling Jazz. Her phone was at her workstation. While Jack carried Danny upstairs, Maddie sprinted over to her station, snagging her phone off the counter. She easily found the number for Casper High.
"Casper High, this is Connie Burjan."
"H–hello Ms. Burjan." Maddie took a deep breath and smoothed out her voice. "This is Madeline Fenton, calling for Jasmine Fenton. I'm her mother."
"What can I do for you?"
"There's an emergency and we need to pull Jazz out of school. She needs to be with her family right now."
"Of course. I'll call her to the principal's office. I hope everything will be alright."
Maddie gave a rueful grin. "So do I." She hung up and headed upstairs.
Jack already had Danny in the back of the RV, laid out on one of the benches. He looked so small curled up on his side, shaking and shivering. Seeing him like that sent a surge of loathing through Maddie. She did this.
"You take Danny to the hospital. I'll pick up Jazz," Jack said, motioning to the little-used family car.
"No, we can't," Maddie said. She cursed softly. "We never got the transmission fixed."
They used the car so little. It was a relic from days past, the same vehicle Jack had in college. These days, they preferred the RV both because of its size and its ghost defenses.
"We pick up Jazz on the way," Jack said.
Maddie didn't want Jazz to see her brother this way, but she nodded anyway. They could leave Jazz at school for the rest of the day, but that didn't feel right. The whole family needed to be together.
Jack climbed into the back with Danny, sitting on the floor rather than the bench opposite his, while Maddie got in the front seat. Starting the car, she practically tore out of the garage, ripping through the back alley behind their house. She may have been a less hazardous driver than Jack, but she was just as fast.
"It's okay. You're gonna be okay," Jack whispered. Looking in the rear-view mirror, Maddie saw him running his hands through Danny's hair in a soothing gesture. It reminded her of when Danny was little. He used to get sick so easily, stuck at home for days on end with a cold or flu. One of them would sit with him until he fell asleep, reading books about astronomy and brushing his hair like Jack was doing now.
Maddie's grip on the steering wheel tightened. This was nothing like back then. The bruise on Danny's arm had spread, a spotty discolouration taking over the whole limb.
When they got to the school, Jazz was already waiting outside, standing on the front steps. She ran up the sidewalk the second the RV came into view, bounding toward the vehicle. Jack threw the door open for her.
"What happened? Ms. Burjan didn't say," Jazz said. Her gaze fell to Danny. She paled, cupping her mouth. "Danny!"
She clambered into the car, leaving Jack to shut the door again, and immediately knelt in front of her brother. Her hands hovered over him before she touched his forehead, feeling his temperature. "What happened?" she asked.
"He was sick. Some kind of ghost sickness. We– I gave him ecto-dejecto to flush it out," Maddie explained shakily. She couldn't meet her daughter's eyes.
Jazz stared down at Danny. Gnawing on her thumbnail, she kept swivelling her head back and forth, glancing between Danny, Jack, and Maddie. She looked conflicted.
"Jazz?" Jack asked, seeing the same indecision as Maddie.
"You can't take him to the hospital," Jazz said. She leaned forward, wrapping her arms around Danny, and pulled him into a protective embrace.
"Jasmine! Your brother needs a doctor!" Maddie said.
"No, you don't understand!" Jazz shook her head vigorously. "You can't take him, they'll– they'll find out."
"Find out what?" Jack asked.
She bit her lip, holding Danny closer. Whispering an apology in Danny's ear, she raised her head and glared defiantly at Maddie and Jack. "They'll find out Danny's not human!"
Maddie slammed her foot on the breaks. Jack's arms shout out to brace himself on the sides of the RV. Jazz yelped, sliding forward, and curled around Danny to protect him as he fell halfway off the bench.
Panting, Maddie turned around and stared at Jazz. "He's what?" she asked.
Jazz shifted, putting herself between Danny and Maddie, as if he needed protecting from her. "He's not human," she repeated. "He's... his accident. It did something to him." Shaking her head, she continued, "If you take him to the hospital, they'll report him. It's in that stupid ecto act the G.I.W. have. Any cases of ecto-contamination need to be reported so they can take care of it."
Maddie's mind refused to process that information. She heard it, loud and clear, but she couldn't comprehend it. Of course Danny was human. He was her son, her baby boy, her flesh and blood. She brought him into this world. To say he wasn't human was just ridiculous. Impossible. No accident could change someone that much. No accident could take away someone's humanity.
The streak in Danny's hair stood out, glaringly bright, against his dark locks. The bruising had spread to his neck now. It would only be a matter of minutes before it touched his cheeks, too.
"Jazz, what happened to Danny?" Maddie was afraid of the answer.
"I can't tell you," Jazz whispered. "It's not my secret. I already said too much. But anything that could help him? None of that is going to be at the hospital. If ecto-dejecto did this to him, he doesn't need human medicine."
Maddie paled.
"Jazzypants," Jack said softly, reaching out.
Jazz scooted back, taking Danny with her. "We have to go back home. And you have to promise me. You have promise that, no matter what you find out, you won't hurt Danny."
"Jazz–"
"Promise!"
"We promise," Maddie said.
"Okay." Jazz nodded. "Okay. Let's get Danny home."
Facing forward, Maddie turned the RV around.
The couch was hardly sanitary. Jack and Maddie had to carry it in from the garage, and it was covered in dust. Maddie told Jazz as much, but her daughter refused to let them put Danny on the examination table.
"I can't let him wake up like that, lying there, with you looking over him," Jazz said. "It's his worst nightmare."
It broke Maddie's heart to hear that.
Jazz sat with Danny, his head in her lap. She had taken Jack's place stroking his hair. Maybe that was for the best. Based on what Jazz said, Danny wouldn't react well to either Maddie or Jack being the first face he saw if we woke up.
When, Maddie corrected herself. When he wakes up.
The couch sat all the way across the lab, as far from Maddie and Jack as it could get. Not to keep Danny away from them, but because they hadn't cleaned up the puddle of ectoplasm on the floor yet. It was a medical hazard, not to mention an accident waiting to happen, but they had other things to focus on right now.
Maddie forced herself to look away from her children, a heartfelt scene, and turned back to her microscope. She had a sample of Danny's blood underneath it and was looking for signs of crystallization. If she wanted to treat him right, she needed to know just how ghostly he was, and if he was even sick in the first place.
Danny himself said he didn't know what was going on.
Zooming in forty times, one hundred times, four hundred times, Maddie scowled in frustration. She could see his blood cells, but she couldn't see any crystallization. It didn't make sense.
"Anything, Jack?" Maddie asked, pulling back from the lens.
Jack, sitting beside her, leaned forward and scrutinized the computer screen. It was plugged in to the microscope, showing the same view Maddie saw of the sample. He shook his head.
"I don't get it. It should be there," he said.
Maddie nodded. Switching out Danny's sample for the ectoplasm from the portal, she shifted closer to Jack and scoured the screen. The image was blindingly bright. Unlike human blood, which could be seen as individual cells when you looked close enough, ectoplasm remained one solid mass no matter how far you zoomed in. The only thing that seemed to change was how large the crystallization lines were.
In the portal's sample, they swirled together in spiral patterns. It mimicked the way the ectoplasm moved in the portal itself.
Maddie wondered how that worked. Other ghosts had some form of conscience that seemed to influence and be influenced by their ectoplasm, resulting in unique patterns. The portal, however, had no consciousness. Perhaps all ambient ectoplasm from the Ghost Zone would bear an identical pattern. It was something they would have to look into, once Danny was fine.
Staring at the bright screen too long hurt Maddie's eyes. She was forced to look away, rubbing spots out of her vision. There had to be something they were missing.
Jack drummed his fingers on the table and hummed.
"What is it?" Maddie asked.
"Ectoplasm isn't blood," he said.
Maddie blinked, confused. "Yes?"
"So, why are we looking at Danny's blood like it's ectoplasm?"
Maddie blinked again. Her thoughts snapped into place. "Of course!" she shouted. She switched the ectoplasm with Danny's sample once again, zooming the microscope in to one thousand.
"Enlarge the image," Maddie said.
On the computer keyboard, Jack tapped a few keys, doing as asked. The image blew up to fill the screen.
Maddie pointed to one of Danny's red blood cells. "There," she said. She traced her nail along a thin line just barely visible, cutting across the cell. "Ectoplasm is one solid mass, as far as we know, but blood isn't. The crystallization appears on the individual cells, not around them."
"You found something?" Jazz called from across the room.
"You betcha, Jazzypants!" Jack whooped, throwing up his arms.
Maddie left him to celebrate, focusing instead on the pattern she could see. It looked like starbursts. Of course they would, this was Danny. She expected nothing less from her space-loving son. Scanning the image over and over, she tried to see if she could tell exactly how ghostly Danny was. The crystallization appeared fainter, but there was just as much of it as any ectoplasmic sample, simply reduced to a smaller space. Maddie's gaze caught on one of the cells in the corner of the image.
"That's odd," she said. "Jack, look at this." She beckoned him closer, pointing to what had caught her attention. "That cell there. It's the same swirl pattern as the portal.
"You're right," Jack murmured, fascinated.
Tapping her finger on her cheek, Maddie kept staring. There was something else about the pattern, something that nagged at her. It was almost familiar, which should be impossible because every ghost was unique.
"Jack, compare this sample to other ones we have logged in the system," Maddie said.
Behind her, Jazz called, "You don't need to do that!"
"Yes we do."
On the computer monitor, Maddie saw Jazz's reflection. Jazz carefully lifted Danny's head, sliding off the couch, and set him back down. Scurrying across the lab, her socks slipped on the metal tiles.
"Jazz, be careful!" Maddie swivelled her chair around, reaching out to Jazz, but was too late to catch her. Jazz's feet shot out from under her and she hit the ground hard. She groaned, rubbing her backside.
"You should be more careful, you almost fell into the..." Maddie's words died out. The puddle of ectoplasm was gone. "Jack, did you clean up the mess from earlier?"
"Hm? The glass? Yeah, I got it all," he said.
"No, not that, the–" A green blur shot across the lab.
Maddie leapt to her feet, instinctively reaching for an ecto-weapon, but she wasn't wearing any. The green mass zipped back and forth, moving erratically, too fast for Maddie to see. Until it stopped over Danny, hovering.
The ghost was small, about the size of a puppy. It had no arms or legs, just a shimmering body. Spiral patterns danced across its skin, shifting constantly. Yellow rash-like patches smothered the spirals in some places.
Maddie's gaze fell from the ghost to where the puddle of ectoplasm had been mere minutes ago.
"It didn't work," she said quietly, gaping at the ghost.
"Maddie, you should look at this."
"No, Jack, it didn't work!"
"Baby, you really need to look at this!"
Maddie turned, annoyed Jack wasn't listening to her, and froze. The computer had found a match in the crystal patterns. Danny Fenton and Danny Phantom, one hundred percent.
There were only so many dramatic revelations Maddie could handle in one day. First Danny had a ghost flu, then it was worse than a flu, then he was dying, then he wasn't, and then it turned out he was dead all along. Her heart couldn't take it.
She sat on the floor in front of Danny's couch, watching him sleep. The reanimated ghost slept with him, curled up on his back. It was almost cute. Normally, Maddie would have blasted the thing to shreds by now for even getting close to Danny, much less touching him. But right now, that ghost was a sign of hope.
Not only did the ghost recover from the ecto-dejecto, but it gained consciousness. Unless, of course, the portal was conscious after all. That thought sent shivers up her spine. What did that say about Danny, who shared key DNA elements with the portal's ectoplasm? What did it say about the newly birthed ghost that already seemed so attached to him?
It was just Maddie, Danny, and the ghost in the lab. Jazz and Jack had gone upstairs to eat, at Maddie's insistence. It had been a harrowing day and it was barely past noon. Inching forward, she rested her elbows on the cushion beside Danny, folding her arms. The ghost on his back shuffled and yawned, but otherwise didn't acknowledge her. She took that as a good sign.
Danny had stopped shaking not too long ago. The discolouration on his skin had started fading, although not the way Maddie wanted it to. Rather than disappearing completely, it was turning a light salmon colour, a couple shades pinker than a nasty sunburn. Judging by the yellow stains that had yet to fade from the portal ghost, Danny's pink patches would not disappear completely. The sight of them sickened her. Not because they were ugly—Danny could never be ugly to her—but because they were a sign of what she had almost done.
The first few seconds after learning Danny was Phantom, Maddie felt betrayed. How could her own son not trust her with something so monumental? The second thing she felt was a cathartic realization as all the pieces fell into place. The failing grades, the absences, breaking curfew. All their inventions reacting to Danny. It explained everything. Looking back, she should have seen it sooner. Maddie really despised hindsight.
She reached out and brushed Danny's hair away from his forehead, briefly checking his temperature. Disturbingly cold, but Jazz said that was normal for him. Maddie had no choice but to trust her information.
"I'm sorry," she whispered. How many times had she threatened Danny to his face, without knowing it was really him? All the experiments she and Jack had proposed, all the ways they would take Phantom apart to figure out how he ticked. It was horrible.
"I'm so, so sorry." She ran her hand through his hair. Her palm came away wet. Confused, she stared at the ectoplasm streaked across her hand. Pushing Danny's hair back, she checked his scalp for an injury, finding a viscous patch of skin. Before Maddie could process what was happening, Danny was already halfway gone.
"No, no!" She tried to hold him together, but it didn't work. Beneath her helpless gaze, Danny melted, leaving her kneeling in a pool of his ectoplasm, horrified. Her voice caught behind her tongue and refused to move any farther. Cupping her mouth, she croaked pathetically, squeezing her eyes shut. A horrible sob tore through her throat.
Maddie gripped the edge of the couch, punching the cushion. The ghost laying there squawked in protest. Maddie's head snapped up.
"You," she said. Pulling herself up, she braced herself on either side of the ghost. "This happened to you. You came back. How did you do it? Make him come back!"
Crying out in grief, she lowered her head against the couch, shaking. Danny was supposed to be fine. He was supposed to wake up and realize Maddie and Jack knew his secret. He was supposed to wake up and smile because he didn't have to hide anymore. He wasn't... he wasn't supposed to... he couldn't...
A soft white glow filled the room. Maddie opened her eyes, nearly blinded by the light. It came from the ectoplasm. Bright stretching over the puddle, rippling outward from the center at Maddie's knees. The ectoplasm started rising, the rings rising with it, cascading downward.
Slowly, a shape took form, growing out of the ectoplasm. A faceless blob that quickly grew a head, a torso, arms. An achingly familiar form. The ectoplasm creeped back together, sucked inward as the last of the rings faded, and Danny Phantom fell forward into Maddie's waiting arms. She buried a hand on his hair, pressing his face against her shoulder, and let out a broken laugh.
Danny shifted, his arms raising, wrapping around her. "Mom?" he asked, lifting his head.
Maddie wiped her eyes on her sleeve and pulled back so she could see him. He looked different. Where white strands had glistened in Danny's human hair, a black streak now marked his ghost form. His eyes were brighter. Green flecked sparkled on his cheeks like stars. Two new, sharp teeth sat over his canines and lateral incisors on either side of his mouth. He even looked a little taller.
The discolouration remained, though. Grey instead of red.
He tipped his head down, focusing on his body. Startled into action, he yelped and scrambled away, putting distance between them. "I– I mean, Maddie. Madeline. Madeline Fenton. What are you doing here?" he said in a false, deep voice. "In your own lab. What are you doing here in your lab?"
Maddie couldn't help it. She laughed.
"Mo– addie. What, uh, what's going on right now? Am I being punked?" Danny floated back, casting a nervous glance around the room.
"I'm sorry, it's just." She paused to giggle. "How did you ever keep this a secret from us? That voice is so terrible."
"Hey! I like my voice!" Danny shouted, dropping the false voice. His eyes widened and he quickly resumed the charade. "I mean, I like my voice. This voice. This is my voice. And you... you are still laughing."
"Danny..." Maddie wiped her eyes again, this time tears of happiness. "We know."
"You... know?"
"We know."
Danny gawked at her. All it took was Maddie opening her arms and he flew forward, crashing into her.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry I lied," he whispered.
Maddie nearly started crying again. "I'm sorry you had to."
"I just, you and Dad. Fighting ghosts is what you do, and I panicked and didn't tell you, and then it felt like I had waited too long. But I... how do you know?" He peered up at her, tilting his head.
"Jazz told us. We thought... we thought you were dying."
"I felt like it."
Maddie cringed.
"Oh, no, geez, I didn't mean it like that. I meant before you got me with whatever that was. I don't remember anything after that and now I feel kind of great actually," Danny said in a rush. Standing up, he flexed his fists and looked down. Following his gaze, Maddie saw he was examining his reflection in the floor. "Did I go through ghost puberty or something?"
Silence stretched between them for a second.
"Oh my god," Danny said, eyes widening. "I totally went through ghost puberty."
He leaned down to get a better look. Before he could, the portal ghost barrelled into his chest, throwing him back against the couch. The ghost zipped around him, nuzzling him and saying gibberish words. At least it sounded like gibberish to Maddie.
Danny caught the ghost in his arms, trapping it against his chest in a bear hug. "And who's this?" he asked.
"Your new best friend," Maddie teased.
"Damn. Sam and Tucker will be so disappointed." Danny flopped onto his back, holding the ghost above his head as if it were a cat.
Maddie felt a sense of calm wash over her. She didn't realize she had still been nervous, but hearing Danny's sarcastic voice, seeing him play with the new ghost, her worries finally disappeared. Everything was going to be okay.

Okay we need to talk, in the episode "Let's get dangerous" mentions that all of DW's lair tech was provided thanks to Fenton. And there was a dialogue at a certain part of the episode that got me thinking.
"[...] between you me and the motorcycle, Fenton can’t stand him”
That scene made me conclude that Drake apparently doesn't know that Fenton is Gizmoduck.
At first I didn't believe much in this idea, because well, up to this point in the series, who doesn't know the identity of Gizmoduck? (Well it is worth mentioning that not all the characters know it but certainly a large part already knows). But in the course of the episode, when Fenton calls DW for help due to the danger situation in St. Canard he refers to himself as Fenton and not like Gizmoduck even though it's literally calling it through the suit.
And I have 2 theories for this situation:
1. A relationship without Gizmoduck, just Fenton.
As we have seen in previous seasons, Fenton's role gradually matures as the series progresses, both as being respected as a scientist by Gyro and also as his work as Duckburg hero, so he tries to be more responsible in his hero actions away from his civilian life, such as being more discreet in hiding his identity as a hero better than before.
As we know most of Fenton's friends know that he is Gizmoduck and we also take into account that it has been a few times that both Fenton and their relationships are affected, take Gandra Dee for example, she technically begins to meet with Fenton to let him say the words to activate the suit for his "no-boss" Mark Beaks, and well even though Gandra had no bad intentions (at all) and that in the end everything was resolved, Huey and Webby were threatened in the whole risky situation their security.
From which leads me to believe that Fenton having thought about having his next friends be more careful about the issue of Gizmoduck's identity, I suppose that starting to be friends with Drake gives him a break from both being a scientist and being Gizmoduck, I mean that in a few words he tries to have a totally normal friendship with another person (it should be noted that although Fenton has shown several times that he loves his work with every moment of his being, let us remember that sometimes one gets tired and needs a break well deserved).
2. Just Fenton being Fenton, and Drake being Drake.
And well the simplest of my theories. Drake just doesn't know that Fenton is Gizmoduck and Fenton doesn't tell him why he knows that he hates Gizmoduck, plus maybe Drake appreciates his friendship with Fenton, since we remember that despite all the chaos that St. Canard was going through , Drake contacted Fenton to help him with the search for Gosalyn's grandfather, which means that at some point in their relationship there is some confidence that Fenton will help him with some things while he is Darkwing Duck.

It was an accident, I swear: Part 5
For DannyMay: Day 20 Sky, Day 23 Lightening, Day 28 Diner, Day 29 Heat, Day 30 Family, Day 31 Free Day.
Note: I am so excited to revisit this au after like 6 months! I love it so much and hope you enjoy it. We finally see Vlad’s reaction and James and Elle meet! The other chapter are below.
Part 1 -> Part 2(Shatter) -> Part 3(Stalker) -> Part 4(Laboratory) -> Part 5(Here)  -> Part 6 -> Part 7
Danny floats in the park, just above the treeline. With crossed arms, he watches the other boy, white haired and in a black and white jumpsuit like him, pace across the sky. Danny glances down; to the humans below, it probably looks like Phantom finally mastered duplication but the truth is more unbelievable. The other boy is a clone, accidentally created by Jack Fenton, and he is Danny Fenton’s twin brother.
“I thought Elle would be here by now. You told her where to meet us, right?” The younger halfa glances down at his sibling.
“I did.” Danny nods, remembering talking to her on the phone. She’d use the cheap phone he’d bought her to say she’d be coming a week later than her usual day for a monthly visit.
“Maybe she’s running late. Oh I hope she’s just late.”The boy’s ghostly tail twitches nervously under him. “She’s probably fine, right? Yeah, she’s fine.”
“James.” Danny starts, crossing his arms.
“Do you think she’ll like me?” Danny opens his mouth to reply but James continues. “I hope she likes me. What if she doesn’t though?”
“James.”
“She might not like meeting another clone.” The boy wrinkles his nose. “I don’t even know how I feel about meeting another clone.”
“James.”
“Maybe we should have told her before, on the phone. Given her time to adjust.” James runs a hand through his hair. “Oh no, she’s going to freak out. She’s going to freak out ‘cause of me, before we convince her to meet Mom and Dad.”
“James!” Hovering half a foot higher, Danny addresses the other boy. “You’re just freaking yourself out now.” James stops his pacing. An almost tangible wave of anxiety wafts off of him, causing Danny to shiver. “And...you’re projecting again.”
James’s mouth snaps shut. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to.”
Another clear spike of nervousness with a little guilt touches Danny’s core and the half ghost briefly winces at his brother’s emotions. After a moment, Danny shakes off the emotions. He floats up to be at eye level with the other halfa.
Focusing on calming emotions, Danny gently puts a hand on the other boy’s arm. “It’s okay. I know you’re working on it.”
James visibly calms as his nervous emotion tampers in response to Danny’s calm. “Yeah. Thanks for being patient.”
Danny smiles, comfortingly. “Of course bro.” The hand on James’s arm moves to his back. “Now how about you take a deep breath and we’ll just watch the sunset ‘til Elle shows up.”
James frowns, another small spike of anxiety transmitting from where Danny is touching him. “But..”
Danny takes a breath, focusing on sending feelings of assurance to his brother. “Elle is fine and she’s going to be happy to meet you. Everything's going to go great. I promise.”
Sighing, James nods. “Okay. I believe you.” The calmed emotions the boy sends aligned with the statement. He then takes a deep breath as Danny suggested, earning a smile from the boy. His attempt to calm his brother worked.
“Alright.” Danny removes his hand.
The gentle communication of emotions ceases but not for the first time, Danny is grateful of that new ability. Well, relatively new to him but common to closely related ghosts. It is insanely strong between Danny and James, probably since the two are functionally identical twins. Strong enough the two can communicate memories and thoughts as well. And the strength of that ability explains James’s troublesome tendency to mentally scream his emotions at Danny. But the other boy is working on controlling it, only sending emotions deliberately and not often.
But all the same, Danny is grateful. That empathic communication has proven useful for comforting each other before- James when he first discovered he was a clone and Danny after a nightmare a few days ago. Long distance, it could be useful in the future if one of them gets kidnapped or injured. But best of all in Danny’s opinion, it makes him feel like he’s known James for years, not the ten days the clone has existed. It probably explains why Danny is so quick to call James his twin brother.
“Wow.” James’s amazed voice cuts through Danny’s thought. “The sky’s so….beautiful right now.”
Danny briefly glances at James, before fixing his eyes on the horizon. His lips turn up in a smile as his eyes widen slightly. “Yeah it is.”
Nodding, James looks at his brother for a second, holding his hands in front of him. His smile widens and Danny can’t help smiling with him. “That orangish pink color. It’s so calming...almost and Those little clouds. The way the light reflects off of them. They look so...light and fluffy.” The boy sighs, his hand waving in the air and moving to point. “And right there, where the edge of the cloud met the still blue sky. It’s just….wow.”
James blinks, wonder still painting his face. Still grinning at seeing his twin so amazed, Danny can’t help but chuckle. “Really eloquent at the end there, huh?” He gently elbows the other boy.
James rolls his eyes. “Oh shut up, Danny.” He quipps fondly.
“No really. You were almost poetic there for a bit but I guess you kinda lost it at the end there.” James just shrugs, nonchalantly and Danny continues. “I’m just happy you’re not still spazzing.”
The other half ghost crosses his arms in faux offense. “I wasn’t spazzing.”
“Oh please. If you were on the ground, they’d be a new ditch in the park.” Danny raises a brow.
“Maybe I was being a little ridiculous.” James waves his fingers in a so-so motion.
“A little?”
“Okay, more than a little. Thanks for talking some sense into me.”
"No problem." Danny shrugs. "And ya don't have ta keep thanking me."
The other boy gives a subtle grin. "Maybe I'm just a grateful person."
"Yeah." Danny smiles. "So how was your day?" His brother raises an eyebrow at the change of topic. "Mom and Dad weren't too bad, right?"
"Nah." The other boy shakes his head. "They only wanted me to help in lab for a couple hours."
"And you're okay with that?"
"Yeah. It's interesting actually. Mom taught me how to work the microscope. I looked at some of the samples we gave them. It was cool."
"Well, that's good. I'm happy they're not being over the top with the research."
"Yeah. They're not, at all. And really, I'd rather be involved. To know how I work. Make sure I'm healthy."
"I get what you mean." Danny nods, agreeing. He'd also been interested in how being half ghosts works, even before Mom and Dad found out, though he still has a lingering fear of being a lab rat. Danny shivers; Comes from nightmares about being vivisected and experimented on by the GIW and rarely by his parents. Fears that had been greatly eased by his parents' acceptance and understanding. Fears that luckily James didn't seem to have.
But even with his fears, Danny was willing to offer blood and ectoplasm samples, though more for James's benefit than for his parents or his own curiosity. His clone brother's health….well every other clone had had stability issues; Mom and Dad had freaked out a bit, hovering with parental overprotectiveness after finding out. Even Vlad had his problems with ectoacne. Though there hadn't been any indication of problems so far, Danny and James agreed with their parents; it was best to check James before problems showed up so they'd both given samples to establish a baseline.
Danny desperately hopes no stability issues arise with James. A calming hand appears on the halfa's shoulder causing Danny to glance over. James. Clearly the other halfa senses his worry. "I'm fine. And I'm going to stay fine."
"I know." Danny shakes his head, easing at James's comfort. "Doesn't mean I can't worry."
His twin raises a brow. "And you were just getting on me for that earlier."
"That's different." Danny frowns.
"Sure…." The word comes skeptically. "I think we're just both balls of anxiety today."
Danny hums. Okay maybe he’s worrying a bit. Not to mention, he’s also starting to wonder where Elle is to. Oh, and they hadn’t even mentioned the worries about finally dealing with James and Elle’s lack of legal documents and what they’re going to tell the town so the two, James especially, can finally go out in public. Or Vlad eventually finding out about...everything.
James sideeyes his brother, clearly sensing another anxious spike. "Anyway, enough of that.” He sends a nudge of comfort. “How was school, Danny?"
"Ehh pretty standard.” Danny pushes down the worries, focusing on the question. “English was boring. Dash was annoying. But I wasn't late for any class and turned in all my homework so that was good. Oh and…" Danny grins. "You won't believe what Wes did."
"What did-" James's question was cut off by his ghost sense, twin puffs of cold air exiting from each half ghost's mouth.
“Ghost child.” A metallic ghost voice sounds behind the two half ghosts, causing both to whip around.
“Skulker!” Danny narrows his eyes. “How about we not-”
The half ghost has no time to react before the hunter tases him, a vaguely confused expression on his mechanical face. Danny yelps as the lightning flows through him. His core pulses, threatening to give out as he drops several feet. Above him, James screams as he too is shot, though he remained level in the air.
Skulker glances between the two. “I figured that would disperse one of you.”
“I’m not a duplicate!” James yells, earning a confused and exacerbated glare from the hunter ghost.
Danny takes advantage of the distraction to shoot Skulker with an ectoblast from below. The ghost glares, knocked to the side by the hit. A second later, Skulker shots again, his taser grazing James. “Why did it have to be electricity?” The halfa mutters.
Danny agrees with the sentiment; being electrocuted sucks, brings back memories of how he got his powers. He shivers for a second, blasting ice at Skulker who tases him again. He grits his teeth at the pain.
“I’m not paid enough for this.” The hunter ghost mutters, turning his attention to Danny, as he rights himself and takes a fighting stance. More ice, another ectoplasm and Skulker looks annoyed and slightly singed. “You little-”
In the chaos both fighters had lost track of the other halfa. “Skulker!” James yells, lodging a shoot and Danny startles as electricity surges through the hunter ghost. He fixes wide eyes on his twin, who stares at the lightning leaps from his finger. “That was unexpected.”
“Yeah.” He hadn’t seen that coming. (Then again, maybe he should; Danny himself had electricity powers but he hated using them. Maybe James just had more affinity for the skill than him.)
In the distraction, both halfas fail to react as Skulker attacks again. Danny screams as electricity surges through him again, the voltage clearly higher as his core sputters and shuts down. The white rings form around his waist turning him human. He plummets to the ground.
“Danny!” His brother darts towards him, ghostly tail trailing after him as he pulmets but Skulker lodges another shoot from a different gun. A net wraps around him.
Danny’s eyes widen as he hits a branch, falling below it. The leaves block his view of James and Skulker as he struggles to transform. Come on! Another yelp above him, no longer echoing, and Danny hits the ground hard, hitting his head. He passes out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elle darts across the darkened sky. “Stupid ectopus” She grumbles, flying fast to make up time lost fighting the dumb ghost at the edge of Amity Park.
She flies past a restaurant, a dinner Danny took her for burgers before. Oh it smells so good. Her stomach rumbles. Hopefully they can go again once she meets Danny in the park. She turns to the left sharply and thirty seconds later is hovering over a stand of trees in the park, their usual meeting spot. He wasn’t floating like normal. Invisible, she glances around, at the playground to the left, the baseball field in front of her. She scans the teenager and kids playing, looking for Danny in his human form. He wasn’t there either.
“Danny?” She called.
A groan sounds below her, only audible because of her increased ghostly hearing. A very familiar groan. “Danny!”
Elle darts towards the ground, rustling the leaves as she flies. She hovers to a stop, floating over her original, her older brother. He looks slightly singed and bruised, though luckily not bleeding.
He groans again, blurry eyes blinking open. “James?”
“Who?” Elle frowns, confusion mixing with her concern.
Danny blinks again, clarity quickly entering his gaze. “Elle?” She nods and the boy shoots up. “Elle!” He looks side to side, eyes wide with panic. “Where’s James?”
“Who’s James?” Elle’s head tilts.
“James!” Danny calls again. “James!”
“Who’s James?” Elle repeats more forcefully.
“James! Shit.” His hand goes to his head. “I think Skulker got him. His first ghost fight and I let him get kidnapped! Stupid!”
“Danny!” Elle shouts, having had enough. She puts an arm on Danny’s shoulder and almost recoils at the sharp pain projected through the contact. She rips her arm away, heart rate increasing. “Who’s James? What does he look like? Maybe I saw him in the park earlier.”
Danny’s mouth snaps. He licks his lips, nervously. “If you did, you would know.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Elle frowns.
“He was right. I should have told you earlier.” Danny sighs. “Well….long story short. Dad accidentally cloned me.”
Elle’s eyes widen, instantly the size of dinner plates. “Dad? You mean your dad. Your dad, Jack Fenton clone you. Accidently.”
“Yes. So we have a new brother, James.”
The girl blinks, mind sputtering. “Your dad cloned you.”
“Technically he’s your dad too.” Danny wrings his hand. “And he and Mom have already said they want you as their kid. Since they know about me being Phantom now.”
Elle just stares, feeling like her brain broke. A confusing mix of emotions churns in her gut. Confusion, disbelief. What….how....how do you even make a clone accidentally? anxiety, fear, warriness…..Danny’s parents know and want to meet her…but they cloned their son. And what about this James? Is he nice? Will he like her?... And a little excitement at the thought of a new brother, another halfa, another clone like her. Even a little jealousy….another clone, not made by Vlad but by Jack Fenton, right in Danny’s house.
Elle shivers, feeling some panic rise as Danny’s still ranting. “So James and I were going to meet you here so you and James could get to know each other. And then we’d go home and you can actually meet Mom and Dad. And figure out what to do now.”Danny’s breath is coming in and out quickly, his chest heaving. “But Skulker showed up and I’m out of practice and James’s never fought ghosts before. But I got overconfident and distracted ‘cause it was two to one. But I got knocked out and Skulker took James and now I have no idea where they went.” His hands shake. “And James is probably freaking out. And Mom and Dad are gonna freak out. And I think I freaked you out, cause you haven’t said anything and...and….”
The sight of Danny’s wide panicked eyes finally grabs the girl’s attention; she can freak out about everything later but Danny and the new clone need her now. “Danny, take a deep breath.” The boy shakes his head, struggling to calm his breathing. Bracing herself, Elle puts a hand on his shoulder. She tenses, clearly feeling Danny’s panic. She pushes back, sending her best attempt as calm. “Try to calm down. You can’t help James like this.”
That keenly gets Danny’s attention. He takes a deep breath and lets it out. “You’re right, you’re right. Why am I freaking out like this? James-” He cuts himself off. Closing his eyes, he shakes his head and Elle feels his realization, on top of the lessening panic. “He’s projecting again.”
“Projecting?” Elle furrows her brow.
“Emotionally projecting. Like how I can feel you're still really confused about all this. But long distance.” Danny puts a hand on his head.
Feeling slightly self conscious, Elle removes her hand. Not that she doesn’t want Danny to know she’s confused, but she’s not the most comfortable with the empathic communication they can do as sibling ghosts. Often it's a sad reminder of her clone brothers..err...the brother made by Vlad...and the empathic bonds that are lost to her now. The surge of pain, fear, and love she’d felt from them as they died, the last communication from four people who’d only been able to speak through those emotions.
She swallows. “That’s possible?”
“Yeah. James tends to yell his feelings.” He pales. “And he’s really freaking out. He’s really scared.” Danny pushes himself to his feet. “We need to find him. But I don’t know where Skulker was taking him!” Both hands grip the older halfa’s head as the white rings form around his waist. He floats for the ground. “How am I supposed to find him?! We’ve got to find him.”
Before he can dart off, Elle grabs his arm. “Wait. Why don’t you try to ask James where he is?”
Danny’s ghostly tail twitches under him. His confusion brushes Elle’s mind. “What do you mean?”
“If you can feel what he’s feeling, maybe he can feel what you are. And...we’ve communicated thoughts and memories before.” Heck Elle had some of Danny’s memories, ones she’d gained before she’d meet him. “Maybe you can get him to send an image of where he is.”
Danny nods. “Okay. That’s a good idea.” There’s a tickle of gratitude as Danny accepts the idea before Elle moves her hand again. Danny closes his eyes. “James! James!” A pause. “It’s okay. Elle and me are going to come get you. You’re going to be okay.”
After a few seconds, Danny sighs in relief. He opens his eyes, blinking at Elle. “I’ve got him. Where are you?” It worked? Elle marvels as Danny closes his eyes and wrinkles his brow.
A few seconds later. “Vlad…..Vlad’s mansion.” He tenses, twitching in the air. “He does? How….nevermind. Find a window to break. Turn human to get through the shield.” Danny frowns and Elle copies his expression. At least, it sounds like James managed to get awat from Vlad.
Danny’s expression morphs into panic. “Tell him you’re a clone! It’ll throw him off, distract him. Stale him until the three of us can deal with him together.” He nods. “Alright. You’ve got this bro.”
Danny opens his eyes and looks at her. She smiles at his now determined expression. “That’s a good plan.” She pats his shoulder. “He’ll be fine ‘til we get there.”
The older halfa nods. “He will. He can handle it.”
Elle can feel he believes it. “Let’s go.” She floats up and the two half ghosts fly towards Vlad’s mansion.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Let me go!” James demands, voice wavering despite his attempt to sound confident. The hunter ghost grips the net containing the struggling halfa with one hand.
“Stop struggling.” The ghost says sharply.
In response, James just struggles more, reacting for his ghost powers. If he can burn or freeze the net, even use that lightning again. But no luck, his core barely sparks. He swallows. “I’m not just gonna let you skin me!”
Skulker glares down. “As much as I would love to acquire your pelt today, I must deliver you to my employer.”
“Your employer?” James pales, confusion and a small suspicion tickling his mind.
“You know who I work for.” The hunter narrows his eyes skeptically.
Plasmius. That must be who Skulker is delivering him too. Panic spikes in the boy as he continues his struggling. What...why….why did the older halfa hire Skulker to capture him?! Does Plasmuis know about everything? Is he going to threaten James? Try to convince him to leave his family? Manipulate or bribe or threaten or...
“Stop that!” Skulker demands, cutting through the panicked thoughts. A taser jabs at the boy’s skin, the electricity making his muscles lock up. He falls limp.
The trees and buildings blur past as James tries to convince his muscles to move. His mind pounds with worry about the upcoming confrontation. But all too soon, Skulker turns both of them invisible and phases into a large home at the edge of town, almost a mansion. The hunter comes to a stop in a fancy looking room with bookcases, a desk, and a fireplace. He unceremoniously dumps James on the floor and pulls the net off of him. The young halfa lies on the floor for a few seconds, trying to gain his bearings before a disapproving voice washes over him.
“Now. You did not damage him too badly, did you Skulker?”
“Of course not.” Skulker says, reaching down and yanking James to his feet. “I have delivered the ghost child as you asked.”
“I can see that.” Vlad eyes the wavering halfa judgmentally before waving Skulker off. “You may leave.”
Skulker removes his hand from James’s arm, the sudden lack of support causing him to almost lose his balance. He dips forward, his heart pounding in his chest, but his hands brace on the chair in front of him. A few seconds of staring at his feet and James manages to steady himself enough to stand without the support though his knees shake.
“This would be much easier if you would answer my phone calls.” Vlad’s voice, severely annoyed as if he’s been terribly inconvenienced, causes James’s head to whip up.
“What?” He manages to quietly ask. What phone calls?.
Vlad shows no indication he heard the question. He motions to the chair near James, on the opposite side of the desk from where the older halfa is sitting. “Have a seat.” James remains immoble, frozen in fear as he finally takes in the older halfa’s appearance. Long, silver hair. An impeccable, expensive suit. He is postured, back straight, everything in his body language screaming control, experience, subtle intimidation. Ever the cat he’s slowly stroking in his lab communicates malice intent, someone cunning, three steps ahead of you. Until they snap.
The older halfa narrows his eyes at the lack of response. “Have a seat.” James shivers; and the worse part is the ghostly aura of power. His cold core can sense the burning, heat wafting off of the other halfa’s core. “I said, have a seat.” Blue eyes flash red, an almost manic fire just below the surface, barely controlled but waiting to build and consume.
James obeys, sitting heavily in his chair. And Vlad grins maliciously. “Much better.” After a second, the smile lessens into a taunting frown. “What is this? No quips, no demands, no idle threats of violence. Have you finally learned your place, boy?”
The younger halfa fights not to cringe at the insult. He swallows. “Why did you have Skulker bring me here?”
The malicious taunting ends, morphing into a more neutral expression. “As I said, you never answer my calls. And you’ve been extraordinarily quiet, little badger. You’ve not barged in my office in months, no threats or taunts.” Vlad ceases petting the cat which hops up onto the desk. It bats at some knick-knacks, including a cylindrical container. Was that a Fenton Thermos? Vlad bats the cat away. “Shoo, Maddie.”
James cringes at the name. Vlad has a cat named after his mom, seriously?
Vlad continues. “I had figured you would fall into at least one of my traps in the last month. But alas, nothing. I have to say. I am unsure whether to be impressed or disappointed.”
James doesn’t respond, carefully avoiding the other halfa’s eyes. Dread and confusion, subdued panic, swirl in his gut. Months...what is Vlad talking about, he hasn’t...?
“You remain silent?” Vlad raises a brow before he sighs. “Is your mother’s intelligence finally showcasing itself? Instead of your father’s moronic short sightedness? Have you finally learned to hold your tongue?”
A little anger spikes, only adding to James’s fear instead of relieving it. “Don’t talk about my dad like that.” He argues quietly.
“I will speak of the idiot Jack Fenton however I wish.” Vlad narrows his eyes. “Now tell me, what are you up to?”
“What? Up to?” James tilts his head. He’s not up to anything. He still doesn’t understand...
“Yes, You are up to something. Even now you are acting suspiciously.” Vlad glares.
“I….I don’t know what you’re talking about.” The younger halfa swallows curling in on himself.
“This meek, frightened act is unbecoming, boy.”
“It’s not…” James tries to defend, feeling his anxiety radiating off of him.
“Oh. You admit I intimidate you now?” Vlad raises a brow.
“No.” James shakes his head, denying. He’s not intimidated, no.
Fire ignites in Vlad’s hand, the heat burning into James’s skin. “You should be intimidated. Have you finally realized what a powerful enemy you’ve made? If only you’d joined me at the beginning, Daniel.”
Daniel? His original’s name rings in the clone’s head. And he feels very stupid.
“But you have lost your opportunity to join me as a son.”
Vlad thinks he’s Danny. Shit, shit, shit.
“You wish me to be the villain? I will play the part. But I will not be ignored. ”
Vlad thinks he's Danny and is doing the whole villain speech, like James is the one who refused and thwarted him at every turn.
“I said, I will not be ignored. Are you even listening boy?” Vlad hisses, heat streaming off of him.
Oh he’s listening. James can’t help but listen. What does he say? What can he do?
Vlad’s flaming hand appears in front of his face. “You will listen. This is my game, understand.”
Game. This is a game to him. Images of Vlad overshadowing and sending ghosts after his dad. Trying to steal their portal. Flirting with Mom. Stealing the Ring of Rage, the Infinity Map. Infecting Sam and Tucker with ectoacne. Injecting Jazz with nanobots and forcing her into a metal suit.
The flames inch closer. “This is my game. And you do not get to choose when you exit.”
Vlad shooting him, punching him, kidnapping him. Not, not him. The fuzzy haze of borrowed memories. Vlad electrocuting and torturing his brother. A scream as he’s forced to turn human.
“It’s...it’s not a game.” It's not. It's life and death. Images of Elle melting. The other clones. THE OTHER CLONES.
“Oh yes it is.” Vlad grins wickedly. “My game. You do not get to choose to stop playing.”
“No.” James shakes his head.
“Do you understand me, Daniel?” The man sneers, flames licking at his fingers.
But he's not Danny. He has many of Danny's memories but he's not Danny.  He's never been Danny. He's James. He didn't ask to be part of this, Vlad's game. He doesn't know! Doesn't know!
James's chest heaves as he manages to nod, mostly so Vlad doesn't burn his face off.
"Better." The fire in Vlad's hand dies and the man leans back. "Now tell me what you are hiding."
James blinks. “What?”
“You are acting strangely.” The older man narrows his eyes. “What happened, Daniel? What are you hiding?”
Hiding? That he’s not Danny. Should he tell Vlad he’s not Danny? Or keep pretending? He doesn’t want to pretend to be Danny. Not when he’s had enough trouble separating his identity from Danny’s. He’s not a copy, doesn’t want to be a copy. But…..Vlad’s words from Danny’s memory. You exist to serve me. Vlad is not his maker but Vlad never valued the lives of Elle and the other clones. Will Vlad see him as subhuman too?
Vlad snaps his fingers. “Daniel. Tell me.”
“No.” James shakes his head.
In the blink of an eye, Vlad stands in front of him, a hand on his upper arm. “You will tell me, boy.”
Flickering intangible, James pulls out of Vlad’s grip. “Leave me alone!” His core pulses, a mix of fear and anger. He needs to get away. Summoning the rings, he’s blessedly able to transform.
“Really, Daniel? Must we fight? We can talk like civilized people.” Vlad rolls his eyes, condescendingly.
If James wasn’t so afraid, he’d have scoffed. Instead he shot an ectoplasm as strong as he could form quickly. It hit the still human halfa, knocking him into the desk. James flees before Vlad can recover. He flies out of the office and into a long hallway. Which way? Which way?! Not pausing to think he continues forward and is at the front door in seconds. He tries the knob. Shit, it’s locked! Try a window? In the dining room. He’s breathing too fast, his heart too fast. He tries to push open a window when a voice yells into his head.
James! James puts his hand on his head. What was that? That wasn’t his thought. James!
James startles again, but he recognizes the voice for lack of a better word. “Danny?” He whispers.
It’s okay. Elle and me are going to come get you. You’re going to be okay. Danny’s voice shouts again.
“Danny!” He physically and mentally shouts. “Can you hear me?”
A mental sigh of relief, a conformation. I’ve got him. Quiet, not directed at him. Where are you? The second sentence is stronger, a question directed at him.
“I’m...I’m at Vlad’s mansion. Trying to get away.” He pulls at the window and glances outside. “Ghost shield.”
A few seconds later. Vlad…..Vlad’s mansion. Danny repeats.
“Doors locked. Can’t get out.” He flies through the wall into the kitchen, receiving concern at the message.
“Daniel! You are not leaving until I say you are.” Vlad calls from somewhere in the mansion.
James frowns, twitching in the air. “Vlad thinks I’m you.”
He does? How….nevermind. Find a window to break. Turn human to get through the shield.
He really should have thought of that himself. “On it.” Before James can look for something to break the window with, Vlad barges into the room.
He found me. The young halfa mentally screams.
Growling, Vlad in Plasmuis form grabs his arm. The world swirls as he teleports both of them back to the office.
“You thought you were clever, didn’t you, little badger?”
Tell him you’re a clone! It’ll throw him off, distract him. Stale him until the three of us can deal with him together.
Vlad sneers in his face. “I am in control here, not you.
James mentally cringes and Danny sends him comforting sympathy. You’ve got this bro. The words are confident; Danny believes in him completely.
Before James can respond, Danny’s mental presence disappears, leaving James feeling alone. But he can do this. Stealing his courage, James sneers right back.
Pupiless red eyes flashing dangerously, Vlad slaps him. “You thought you could escape from me?!” James startles from the hit as Vlad shakes him. “This is my house, Daniel.”
“I’m not Daniel!” The boy spits out, heart still pounding with fear.
“I don’t care that you prefer Danny-” Vlad starts.
“I’m a clone.” James shouts, the statement sounding more confident than he feels.
“That is a ridiculous lie. Why would I believe that Daniel?” Vlad glares.
“My name's James. And it’s...it’s not a lie.” James swallows. “I can prove it.”
“You are not tricking me, boy.” Vlad shakes him again and throws him into the chair.
Hands shaking, James starts to pull off his right glove. “I...I don’t have his lichtenberg scar.”
“That is-” Vlad’s words cut off as James waves the scar free hand. The older halfa’s eyes widen as he grabs the hand, inspecting it. “This is impossible.”
“Don’t touch me!” James pulls away, glaring at Vlad despite the goose bumps rising.
Vlad ignores him, seemingly talking to himself. “You cannot cover up or shapeshift away death scars.” True, and James didn’t have Danny’s death scar because he’d never died like Danny had. “I can sense you are a half ghost. But….the only clone left in the wretched girl.”
“Don’t talk about her like that.” James grits his teeth.
Vlad finally looks in his eyes. “You are not one of mine.” James cringes at the thought of him being Vlad’s. The older halfa doesn’t register the reaction, his brow furrowing like he’s trying to solve a difficult math problem. “Unless….no. None of them could be restabilized after the complete destabilization. So made by another ghost? Why?” As much as James wants to spit out the truth, he lets Vlad sweat it out. “Who else would want to clone Daniel? Who would even be capable of such a thing?” Vlad blinks at James and shakes his head. “Who is your maker, boy?”
“He’s not my maker. My dad.” James crosses his arms.
Vlad rolls his eyes. “How quaint. Still, who created you?”
“Jack Fenton.” Despite the tension, a slight smile appears on his face.
Vlad blinks. “Excuse me?”
“Jack Fenton. The man you called an idiot earlier, he’s my dad and the person who cloned me.”
“That is impossible. You are mistaken.” Vlad shakes his head, eyes wide.
“I am not.” James deliberately keeps his voice steady. “Jack Fenton made me.”
“Jack...Jack Fenton is an idiot. He could never-” Vlad sputters, startling to look off balanced.
“Well he did.” James points. “And he did it on accident.” Though the words sting, he forces them out.
“No. He could not….He did not….” Vlad shakes his head, collapsing into his chair, still in ghost form. “Jack Fenton is too much of a moron…”
“Stop calling me Dad a moron!” James leans forward, real anger prickling.
“But how?” Vlad blinks again. “How could he even manage to clone someone by accident?”
“We don’t know.” He narrows his eyes. “And even if we did, we’d never tell you.” Memories of how Vlad treated the other clones flashes in James’s mind. “We destroyed everything. The invention, all the records so you will never get your hands on it, you heartless-”
Vlad puts up his hands, a calculating look entering his face. “Come now. I believe we got off on the wrong foot. I am Vlad Masters-”
“I know who you are.” James cuts him off.
“I suppose you do. Then you know I am wealthy, powerful. I can offer you luxury, knowledge, teach you everything I know. All I require-”
“Is that I turn on my family?!” James raises a brow, his fist balling.
“Now little badger…” Vlad says, belittling.
“Really! You have Skulker kidnap me. And the wrong half ghost by the way.” The younger half ghost frowns angrily. “You threaten me, hurt me, trap me in here. And then you try to get me on your side. Are you serious?!”
“If you had told me who you were from the beginning-” Vlad puts his hands out.
“You routinely kidnap and beat up a teenager! How is that acceptable?!”
“Daniel can be very….head strong. He needs a firm hand.” The man slimily tries to excuse.
“Shut up! I know how you work! You manipulate and cheat to get what you want. You are a horrible person who hates my Dad, wants my Mom to marry you, and Danny to be your half ghost lackey.”
“Is that what your original told you? All I want is love. A child to pass on my legacy, my knowledge. That could be you, if you take what I offer.”
“If you just want a kid, why did you clone Danny?” James spit out. “Why not adopt?”
Vlad blinks, the question seeming to startle him. “I want someone of my own kind, another half ghost who can understand me.”
“You had a half ghost kid, Danielle. And you threw her away!” James yells, indignant.
The man seems to pale, despite his blue skin. “You do not know what you speak about.”
“Yes I do.” James points, one finger deliberately on his head. “I know what you did to her and the other clones. I know what you’ve done to my Dad and my Mom. To my brother, Danny.” James grins. “And Mom and Dad know about you.” Vlad blinks, looking startled. “They know about you trying to kill Dad. You beating up and kidnapping my brother.”
“Now that is all exaggerated.” The older half ghost argues, baring his teeth.
“It’s not and you know it! My family knows what you did now and you’ll never get what you want. Not your revenge or Mom’s heart. Or Danny or me or even another clone as a pawn.” James leaned forward glaring.
“Why you little-” Vlad’s aura flares, his hand igniting with ectoblasts.
“And you know what’s really sad. Dad was so upset when Danny told him about you, ‘cause he thought you were friends. He cares about you so much but you’ve hurt his family, repeatedly because you’re jealous! You don’t just want to be loved! You want to control people! You want to buy their love and allegiance.”
“What do you know, little clone boy?” The older halfa hisses, turning the tables. James pales at the verbal lashing as Vlad floats off of his seat, the ectoblasts in his hands flickering like fire. “How dare you lecture me? I only want what I am owed, the life, the family that was stolen from me because of Jack Fenton’s stupidity! You’re what? A week old? What do you know about love or a family?”
James’s heart clenches at the stark reminder of his origin, his youth. He was a practically newborn clone. Maybe he was talking about things he didn’t know. But then again…he schools his expression, narrowing eyes at the older halfa. “I know I have a family and they love and accept me. They always have and I didn’t have to bribe or manipulate them. That’s more than you can say.”
“You ungrateful!” Eyes glowing like coal, Vlad leaps at James who ducks.
The enraged halfa barely misses him and James curses himself. He was supposed to keep him talking, not provoke him to fight. An ectoblast hits James into the table and he lands heavily on the floor.
Something falls in his lap, the thermos. With the word, Fenton, on it. In the blink of an eye, James rips the lid off and points the beam at Vlad. The older half ghost’s expression morphs from anger to panic as he’s sucked in. With a cry of protest, Vlad disappears within the device and James slams the lid down.
The boy stays on the floor, breathing heavily for several moments. He stares at the thermos; it has a small note engraved on it. ‘To V-man from your friend Jack’
Looking down, James sighs. He studies the thermos and addresses its occupant. “You know, Mom and Dad do love you Vlad, just not in the way you want. And yeah, I don’t know everything. All I have are borrowed memories and what Jazz and Danny told me. But maybe things could have been different. You were supposed to be our Uncle Vlad.”
The boy places the thermos on the floor beside him and returns to his human form. Luckily, he’s for the most part unhurt physically, though a confusing mix of emotions surge through him from his confrontation with Vlad. He meant most of what he said, feeling anger at Vlad’s treatment of his family mixed with a little pity of the man.
With another sigh, James pushes himself to his feet. Hopefully Danny and Elle would be here soon. Maybe he should find the shield and turn it off. Something crashes in another room, causing James to dart out of the office, thermos in hand. He runs into the dinning room in time to see Danny flying through the window.
“Danny!” “James!” Both shout at the same time.
James runs forward and a second later, the two brothers hug.
“Are you okay? Where’s Vlad? Did he hurt you?” Danny rambles, his relief washing over James.
James’s muscles relax for the first time since Skulker attacked. “I’m fine. I’m fine. He didn’t hurt me that bad.”
“That bad?!” With one last squeeze, Danny steps back. His eyes trail James’s figure, looking for injuries. He winces, seeing the fresh burn marks near James’s neck. “He got you with an ectoblast?”
“Yeah.” James frowns looking down at the burn peeking out from his shirt.
“It doesn’t look bad at least.” Danny wrinkles his nose.
“So...where’s Vlad?” A female voice beside the two boys draws James’s attention away. His eyes fall on the other floating half ghost. Messy shoulder length white hair, green eyes, a black and white jumpsuit similar to his and Danny’s but with different accents. Though she’s only seen her through Danny’s memories, he knows this is Elle, the other still living clone.
“Yeah. What happened?” Danny asks.
James held up the thermos. “I riled him up like Danny said.” And he’s so grateful that worked, that his empatic bond with his brother let him get help when he was in over his head. “I managed to capture him.”
Elle’s jaw drops. “You captured Vlad.” She holds up her hand for a high five. “That’s awesome!”
The two high five and James get a burst of excitement and curiosity from the contact. He smiles. “I’m James by the way. But I figure Danny said that.”
“I’m Elle.” She waves. “So you’re a clone, like me.”
James furrows his brow. “Yeah.”
“Cool.” She nods. “So….what are we doing now?”
James glances at the thermos again. “I guess we….” He trails off unsure.
“We can take the thermos home. See what Mom and Dad want to do.” Danny says with a frown.
“Can we get some food first?” Elle asks. “I’m starving.”
James nods. “Yes! I could go for some food too. I need to do something fun after…..that.”
“Oh can we go to that dinner you took me to before, the one with the good burgers Danny?!” Elle’s eyes lit up with excitement.
Expression skeptical, Danny looks between James and Elle. “How exactly are we supposed to….” He motions between himself and James.
The other boy grins, getting an idea. “How about you go as Danny Fenton..” He transforms into his ghost half. “And I’ll go as Phantom?”
Danny’s eyes widen as he deadpans. “And that won’t be suspicious at all.”
James shruggs. “Amity Park is weird. No one will bat an eye.”
“Yes! Yes! Yes!” Elle floats forward, grabbing James’s arm. “Let’s do it! Let’s go. Please Danny. Please.” She gives her best puppy dog eyes. James can’t help but laugh, lips pouting ever so slightly too.
Danny looks between the two of them. “I’m not sure if this is a horrible or a wonderful idea.” He points. “And are you two going to gang up on me now?”
James grins. “Sometimes.” He gently elbows Danny. “Come on. Mom and Dad said we had until ten to get home. So we’ve got time to hang out.”
Danny lips turn up into a smile. “Alright, let’s go.” He glances out the window, seeing the ghost shield. “Maybe we should turn the ghost shield off first.”
“Good idea.” Elle nods.
Five minutes of looking and James finds the button hidden in Vlad’s office. The shield turns off and the three phase outside the building. James looks up, taking in the starry sky.
“Do you like the stars too?” Elle floats beside him.
He nods smiling at her. “Yeah. I do.”
“They’re really pretty in the desert. I was there a few months ago. And...wow.” Elle marvels.
Danny flies up, from James’s left. “Maybe all three of us can go together some time.”
“I’d like that.” James grins.
Elle hums in agreement before darting in front of the boys. “Danny. Jamie. Let’s go! Last one there is a rotten egg!”
She’s laughing and flying off before James can ask about the nick name (it’s kinda nice, and fits with Danny and Elle’s names).
Danny’s in front of him, fleeing. “I am not gonna be a rotten egg!”
James laughs, the sound loud and happy. His heart bubbles with love for his two half ghost siblings. Danny, his brother whose been there believing in him since the beginning (it’s been 10 days but it’s a longtime when it’s his whole life). Elle, his little (biologically at least) sister who he looks forward to getting to know; maybe he shouldn’t have been afraid of her not liking him. They have a lot ahead of them- dealing with Vlad, ids and birth certificates, the explanations for the teacher and students. Elle still needs to meet Mom and Dad. But right now is time for burger and sibling bonding.
“Wait for me!” James yells, flying off after the two half ghosts.

Tug of War (Ch 5)
ch 1 - prev
Word Count: 1,574
“Hey Tuck, you busy tomorrow?” Danny asked as the trio walked through the halls after school.
“Um, yea, I’ve got plans,” Tucker replied reluctantly.
His friends both turned to him in surprise.
“No way, you actually landed a date on Valentine’s Day?” Sam exclaimed incredulously.
Read on AO3 or under the cut
“Wait n—of course I have a date!”
“Who is it?” Danny and Sam simultaneously demanded.
Tucker began to nervously play with his beret. “Heh heh, um...you don’t know them.”
Danny seemed to easily accept his response. “Oh, okay then. Have fun Tuck.”
However, Sam was scrutinizing him. He definitely was hiding something. “Tucker, you know you could tell us anything, right?”
“What? Sam, I do!”
“Yeah, right.”
“I’m not hiding anything!”
Sam didn’t reply. Instead, her gaze bore right into Tucker. Within a few seconds, his resolve crumbled away.
“Alright, fine! But you guys gotta promise to not tell anyone this, okay?”
Danny raised an eyebrow at Sam. Honestly, he’ll never get how she does it.
Meanwhile Sam smirked. “We promise. What’s going on?”
“Okay, so you know how I’m trying to get into cybersecurity after college?”
His friends nodded, having a slight idea what it was after hearing him talk about it so much.
“Well, I’m working with this group, and...errr...we’re trying to...help? Some companies?”
“What do you mean by help?” Danny questioned.
Sam added on, “And which companies are you ‘helping’?”
“Just, um...companies like Chase and Capital One. We’re just...I guess you could say we’re testing their security?” Tucker hesitantly answered.
“Aren’t those credit card companies?” asked Sam suspiciously.
“That’s so cool man. I don’t get why you had to hide it from us though,” Danny told him right as he opened his locker.
Sam knew there was more to it, but dropped it when all three of them spotted an expensive camera simply hanging by the strap off one of the locker hooks.
“No way, is a Nikon D80?” Tucker exclaimed gleefully before carefully grabbing the camera to admire it.
Meanwhile, Danny was confused. Wes hardly keeps anything in their locker.
“Hold up. Tucker, turn it on,” Sam said.
He eagerly pressed the power button. “Dude, you didn’t have to ask me first.”
Danny pushed aside a nagging feeling when he saw the menu appear on the screen.
“Whoa, there’s over a thousand photos in here!” Tucker blurted out. “And...they’re all of you, Danny.”
Sam scoffed, “This must be what the creep uses to take those pictures he sells.”
As the trio flipped through the undoubtedly high quality pictures, Danny was suddenly struck by a genius idea. His friends grinned mischievously after he shared what he had in mind.
~
Wes was exhausted. The last game of the season was coming up and Ms. Tetslaff was really pushing them to their limits.
He lumbered to his locker, already feeling an ache from the intense practice he just had. Opening his locker, he gasped when he saw his camera hanging in plain sight. Crap!
He quickly retrieved the protective pouch from his backpack and delicately placed the camera inside. How could he be so careless? Practice must be really getting to him. He’s so damn lucky that Fenton didn’t take it.
He’s actually not that lucky at all.
Later that night as he was going to back up his recent pictures, his stomach dropped when he discovered they were all gone. Instead, there was one new video.
Wes hesitantly double-clicked to open the video on his computer.
“Hey everybody! Danny Phantom here,” Danny greeted in the video as he was floating against the backdrop of Casper High’s distinguishable brick wall. Listening real closely, you could hear two other people sniggering in the background. “I’m here to finally come clean about the truth.”
Wes’ heartbeat picked up. Was he finally going to...?
Danny continued in the video, “If you go to Casper High, I’m sure you all have heard about the rumours. How Danny Fenton is actually me in disguise. That’s...that’s actually not that far from the truth; my true identity is none other than a Casper High student. I’m tired of hiding it. People of Amity Park, I am actually Wes Weston.” The video abruptly cut out.
When Wes’ dad heard a loud crash from his son’s room and came up to check on him, the boy could only growl in response.
~
To say that Wes was pissed the next day was an understatement. It turns out, that video was also posted online. All of his hard work over the years, just gone, right down the toilet.
People wouldn’t stop interrupting him in the halls, bugging him to turn invisible or shoot an ectoblast. No matter how much he tried to debunk that video, they continued to wholeheartedly believe that he’s Phantom.
In history class, Paulina slapped him for charging her for pictures of “himself”. After that, he honestly didn’t want to find out how much worse Dash’s reaction would be. He should probably ditch class until this whole thing blew over.
As he pried open his locker to get his stuff, he glowered at the sight of Fenton’s first aid kit. Last week, when he showed off the expensive kit as evidence, no one even batted an eye. Are the kids at this school that stupid, that they’d believe a single video of Phantom speaking than years of proof?
He was about to leave until he noticed a pamphlet sticking out of Fenton’s bag.
Instantly recognizing the logo on it, his frustration melted away and he couldn’t keep himself from chuckling as he flipped through its pages.
As he made his way to exit the school, he spotted Fenton walking by himself in the halls. He smirked to himself. Maybe he’ll be able to rile him up enough this time to expose him and get everyone to forget that video. That’ll be the perfect payback.
“NASA? You want to work for them?”
Danny jolted out of his thoughts at the sound of Wes’ voice. Surprisingly, he didn’t sound mad at all. Regarding him suspiciously, Danny replied, “Um...yeah?”
“Wow. I should’ve pegged you as the type to enjoy fabricating hoaxes for a living. We know you already love doing that in your everyday life.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Oh Fenton, you know exactly what I’m talking about—NASA, the corporation whose whole aim is generating lies about outer space to deceive the public?”
“Right, I forgot you were a total conspiracy nut. Listen, I don’t have time for this, I—”
“I’m betting you’re more than eager to join in on the next fake moon landing. You’d just love the extra attention, wouldn’t you?”
“We—”
“Even if it’s for your measly human disguise. But why go through all this work when you could just possess the next ‘astronaut’?”
“Dude, that is so wrong!”
“Really? I wouldn’t put it past you.”
A moment of silence passed, while Danny’s defiant look faltered.
“Honestly, screw you Wes,” he muttered before walking off.
Wes could only stare after the now despondent boy, wondering what the heck was wrong with him. It wasn’t like him to just leave, this was supposed to rile him up even more!
Dammit.
~
Weeks later, the buzz around the whole “Wes being Phantom” thing finally died down. Eventually, the inevitable situation came where Phantom and Wes were spotted both being in the same place at the same time. Some people still had their doubts, considering Phantom’s duplication ability was well-known by now. But for the most part, Wes’ life eventually turned back to normal.
He sighed in relief as the buzzer rang, signaling the end of the final game for Casper’s basketball team. The Elmerton Owls beat them brutally with a score of 78-36. Ms. Tetslaff was shaking her head in anguish.
He actually wasn’t bothered at all. After all, it was a losing game from the start. Anderson, the best player of the team, broke his leg last weekend in a skiing accident. Wes was just happy that the embarrassing game was over.
As he fist bumped his team members after finishing up in the change room, he left for his locker. Since the game occurred after school, the halls were completely empty.
When he turned the corner, what he saw stopped him dead in his tracks.
There, sitting and leaning back beside his locker was none other than Danny Phantom, covered in glowing green ectoplasm and clutching a large gash in his stomach as it threatened to spill more onto the floor.
Wes could only stand there frozen, taking in Danny’s unmoving form as the pool of ectoplasm inched closer to his white sneakers.
Suddenly, Danny registered that someone was watching him. Sam? Tucker? Didn’t they already head home? He weakly raised his head to see who it was, only to grimace when he recognized the red-haired creep.
“What do you want Wes?” he barely managed to croak out.
Never in Wes’ life had he imagined seeing him in this position. The worse he thought was watching Phantom’s bravado crumble when the world discovered who he truly was. But this...all of it was already gone in this moment. And as the ectoplasm stained his shoes, he began to question himself.
Wes gulped. He didn’t consider himself to be a caring person. But as Danny sat there, bleeding out before him, he couldn’t…
After sending him one last look, Wes opened their locker, grabbed the first aid kit at the bottom, and got to work.

Chapter 16: Identity Crisis
“Just stop running!” Jazz growled, underlining the statement with a shot of golden ectoplasm. The ghost they were chasing, deer-like but with dangerously curled antlers, bounded over the blast. It didn’t slow.
“We just need to pin it!” Danny focused on the cold of his core, freezing the asphalt in front of the ghost.
It unfurled a pair of feathered wings and leapt over the ice altogether. How had he missed those before?
“Urgh!” Jazz put on a bit more speed, and Danny matched her. They’d been chasing this one ghost for forever. It wasn’t particularly dangerous, but that didn’t mean it could run free in Amity!
Something hit him in the back of the head, and hard. He swore, immediately coming to a dead stop, and grabbed the offending object.
Silver and green, sleek, the shape undeniably like a boomerang. Well, not just a boomerang. The Booo-merang.
But the Fentons hadn’t invented it in this dimension, had they? So then where had this one come from…?
“Danny!”
A pair of arms—warm and heavy—wrapped around his neck, dragging him down to the street the rest of the way. He spluttered as another pair joined the first, the Booo-merang clattering on the floor.
“Sam?” he asked, blinking at his friends. “Tucker?”
“Who else?” Tucker asked, laughing. There were tears in his eyes. “We’re not alone, anyway.”
Danny barely got a moment to consider that before a third pair of arms joined the embrace. A head pressed down on his shoulder, long hair itchy in his neck. “Hey little brother. We missed you.”
“I… I missed you too.” He twisted his head just far enough to see Jazz. His Jazz. His core hummed loud in his chest, so powerful he was sure everyone else could feel it rumbling. His eyes felt wet. “I missed all of you so much. I was—” His breath caught in his throat, but he pushed through. “I was so afraid that I would never see you guys again.”
“Like we’d ever give up on you,” Sam muttered into his collarbone. “Come on, Fenton, you know better than that.”
“It’s just… It’s been so long.” He sniffled, surreptitiously. “I was just… scared. That you couldn’t find me.”
“Sooner or later, we would’ve found you.” Jazz ruffled his hair, and Danny couldn’t even be annoyed about it. Not really. “We’re your family, Danny. We wouldn’t give up on you like that.”
He knew that. He’d known that all along. But not giving up on him and actually being able to find him were two very different things. “How’d you guys get here, anyway?” he asked, caught somewhere between laughter and tears. “I didn’t think you’d be able to come here.”
The sound of a throat clearing. Danny looked up, and saw… white fur, an arm of ice and bones, the cool glow of the ice ghosts that had trained him. In the unfrozen arm, the ghost held a rather familiar map.
“Frostbite,” he greeted, and now he fell over the edge into laughter, even if his tears didn’t quite stop. “Of course. That makes sense!”
He flapped his mostly-free arm, and when Frostbite hesitated, gestured even more impatiently. “This wouldn’t have been possible without you, Frostbite. Come on!”
“Well, if you insist, Great One.” The ghost landed, soundlessly, and shuffled closer. When he seemed uncertain how to approach the group hug, Sam and Tucker reached out and dragged him the rest of the way.
Frostbite was big enough to wrap his arms around all four of them, one arm soft and the other hard, but neither of them as freezing cold as one might’ve expected.
“Thank you,” Danny said, and he wasn’t sure which of them he was talking to. All of them, maybe. “I don’t know what I would’ve done without all of you.”
“You wouldn’t have had to,” Jazz assured him, quietly. “We would’ve found you, no matter what.”
His core rumbled louder. Danny was sure they could all hear it, could all feel it, now. “I was—” Scared. “I was worried,” he settled for instead. “That you’d never find me. It’s been a while.”
“Yeah.” Tucker clapped him on the back without unwrapping his arms. “Your parents were worried, dude.”
Oh god, his parents. How was he going to explain this to them?
“Danny?” Jazz asked, except— it didn’t come from next to him.
He jerked, remembering— Whoops. Looked up, right at Specter’s frowning golden eyes.
“Jazz.” He grinned, sheepishly, ignoring the way everyone’s arms tightened around him. “Uh. My family dropped by?”
“I noticed. But maybe you guys should continue this conversation somewhere out of everyone’s sight?” She shook the Thermos in her hand. “I got the ghost, by the way, no thanks to you.”
“I helped tire it out, that counts.” He patted Frostbite’s furry arm. “Can you carry Sam and Tucker for me?”
The ghost nodded, uncurling his arms from around them. “It would be my pleasure. Lady Sam, Sir Tucker?”
“I don’t know how I feel about those titles,” Tucker grumbled, lightheartedly, as he pulled away from the hug pile as well. “I think I finally understand your dislike of Sir Phantom.”
“Same.” Sam stepped away as well, wrapping her hand around Frostbite’s offered arm instead.
Jazz sighed, stepping up next to him. “I can’t believe I’ve been replaced by a little half-ghost version of myself.”
“If it helps, she’s taught me about the pains of being the oldest sibling.” He wrapped an arm around her waist, lifting her up carefully. “Jazz—Specter—lead the way?”
“Just a rooftop?” She nodded, rising up higher, and pointed at a nearby building. “We’ll be out of sight right up there.”
All of them flew up, Specter in the lead, with Frostbite and Danny right behind her. The moment they touched down, Sam and Tucker let go of Frostbite, and Danny put Jazz down again.
“So… they found you?” Specter guessed, eyes wandering over the gathered crowd.
“They found me,” Danny confirmed, grinning once again. “Jazz, you already know Sam and Tucker, and this is my Jazz.” He gestured at them as he spoke. “And that is Frostbite, he helped them get here.”
He turned to face the rest of them, waving at the little Jazz he’d been staying with. “And this is Jazz Specter, this universe’s half-ghost. I’ve been helping her figure stuff out.”
“He’s been helping me train and stuff,” she affirmed, nodding. “Figure out all the half-ghost stuff.”
“Must’ve been a busy two weeks.” Tucker nodded at Jazz—Specter. “You look well-trained, anyhow. How long did you have your powers before you met Danny?”
“Uh…” She blinked at him, clearly caught off-guard. Trying to process the same thing that Danny was. “Little over a month, close to two months, I guess. He’s been training me for the past four months.”
“Time between the worlds is uneven,” Frostbite realized.
“It’s barely been two weeks for us,” Sam tagged on, eyes wide. “But you’ve been here for four months, Danny?”
“Close to it, I think.” He shrugged. “The timelines don’t match exactly, I think. I feel like I had my powers for more than a year before I fought Pariah, right?”
Specter hummed thoughtfully. “But the events and the order is the same, right? That’s how you were helping me change stuff.”
“Well, not everything played out the same, obviously.” He reached over to ruffle her purple hair. “And it’ll be a lot better for you from here on out, without Vlad on your heels.”
“You should just do the same to your Vlad.” She nudged him. “He can’t possibly be that much worse than mine.”
“Yeah, I never told you about Danielle, did I?” He shook his head. “Trust me, Jazz, I know what I’m about.”
“Like how you never told your parents about being half-ghost?” She shot him an unimpressed stare.
He rolled his eyes. “Yeah, yeah, I get it. I make bad life decisions. This, I will definitely not miss.”
“I can’t believe you’ve been here for four months,” his own Jazz commented. “No wonder that you were worried we wouldn’t get to you.”
“At least you weren’t alone.” Tucker gestured over at Specter by Danny’s side. “And it sounds like you’ve been able to rely on your parents, too.”
“Not… for that long,” Jazz admitted, slowly. “I only told them recently. But Danny—mine—he knew for a while longer, so he and his own Sam and Tucker have been helping too. You have taken up their offers of a bed and food, right?”
Danny made a face.
“Danny.”
Thankfully, he was saved from having to explain himself by the roar of engines.
Valerie slowed to hover over the roof, her posture stiff. “Phantom, Specter… assorted other people.”
“Hey Val,” he said, before turning to his friends and sister. “Frostbite, this is Valerie, ghost hunter. The rest of you already know her, obviously.”
She grumbled, her hoverboard disengaging. “Phantom, you can’t just throw out my name like that.”
“Why not? These guys are from my universe, not yours.” He shrugged. “And they already knew, anyway. Besides Frostbite, but that’s just because he didn’t know you at all.”
“Who is he, anyway?” Specter squinted at the massive ghost that lingered behind Danny’s human friends. “You didn’t bring him to the fight with Pariah.”
“Frostbite is a friend who I didn’t meet until way later.” Danny floated closer to his friends, gesturing at the ghost. “He’s the leader of a group of yeti-like ghosts. They like me because I fought Pariah Dark.”
“Like you?” Tucker repeated with a snort. “Danny, buddy, they practically worship you.”
“It is true,” Frostbite chimed in, like a traitor. “The Great One is much beloved among my people for defeating the Ghost King.”
Specter shot him a look he couldn’t quite decipher, eyes narrowed and mouth thin. “Is that so?”
“That explains the strong ecto-signature that suddenly appeared on my radars, at least.” Valerie shook her head, disengaging her weaponry entirely. “I was worried that you guys had gotten ambushed somehow, but I guess that that’s not the case.”
“An ambush of love, maybe.” His Jazz reached out to ruffle his hair. “Right, Danny?”
“Ugh.” He turned himself intangible so Jazz could no longer touch him. “Anyway, to get back to the original point. I’m gonna go home, so you guys will have to take up the slack again. Jack and Maddie will help, of course, but you two are the only ones who can chase ghosts down in the sky.”
“We’ll take care of it,” Valerie assured him, voice sturdy and determined. “Don’t worry about it, Danny.”
“Do all these guys know your secret?” Sam asked, suddenly leaning on his shoulder. “Did you fall out of the habit of secret-keeping, Danny?”
He huffed, rolling his eyes. “No. Well, a bunch of them know, yeah, but it’s a long story.”
Tucker suddenly appeared on his other shoulder. “Are you sure you can trust Tiny to keep the city safe?”
“Hey!” Valerie snapped back. “Are you really underestimating me because I’m two years younger than you?”
“She has a point, Tuck.” Sam flicked him in the nose. “Valerie could destroy you, age difference or not.” She paused, narrowing her eyes at Valerie. “Even if she is smaller than I remember.”
“Alright, alright, that’s enough.” Danny shoved both of his friends off of his shoulders. “Yes, I’m sure that Valerie, Jazz, and the Fentons can take care of Amity. The three of us managed alright, too, and Jazz has even less enemies to worry about.”
“Yeah, have some trust in us!” Specter puffed herself up, her glow brightening in response. “You guys could take care of it when you were fourteen, so why can’t we?”
“It’s not about whether you can, it’s about whether you should,” Jazz said, crossing her arms. “But I suppose there isn’t much we can do about it. Do we need to drop by FentonWorks as well?”
Danny hummed. “I have kind of been living there, these last two weeks or so, so… Yeah, I think that that’s a good idea.”
“Well, have fun with all that.” Valerie summoned her hoverboard again, floating up a little. “I’ll finish up patrol for you guys, then.”
“Thanks, Val.” Jazz smiled at her. “I’ll see you at school tomorrow.”
“Mh. Bye, Phantom, Phantom’s friends and sister.” Valerie waved, a short motion similar to a salute. “Nice meeting you folks, I guess.”
“Bye, Valerie.” He watched her go, then sighed. “Alright, FentonWorks. How are we getting there?”
“I can carry your friends, Great One,” Frostbite offered. “As we did just now.”
He made a face. “But that’s not exactly comfortable, with them having off of your arms.”
“I can carry someone, too,” Specter protested. “I’m strong enough in my ghost form!”
“I can go with Specter,” Jazz offered, stepping forward. “Danny can take Sam, and Frostbite can carry Tucker.”
Specter nodded, closing the rest of the distance between her and Danny’s own Jazz. “I just need to… uh, figure out how to lift you.”
“Here, just like this.” Danny gestured at Sam, who rolled her eyes but let him pick her up. “See, Jazz?”
She nodded, replicating it with Jazz. It wasn’t quite as easy—Specter wasn’t nearly as strong as him, and Jazz a little too tall for her—but it worked well enough. “Got it. We ready?”
Danny turned to look at Frostbite, who had easily picked up Tucker. “Yeah, looks like it. I’ll go up front. We’ll have to stay high so no one sees us, though.”
Everyone made various noises of assent, the two half-ghosts and one full ghost taking off, their human passengers clinging on. They didn’t speak much during the flight to FentonWorks, high enough that the clouds prevented people from seeing them—if they looked up at all.
Before long they arrived, all flickering invisible for the dive downwards. In the living room, Phantom became visible, soon followed by Specter and finally Frostbite.
“Um.” Human Danny blinked at the sudden crowd. “What’s going on here?”
“My entourage has arrived.” Danny dropped Sam, carefully. “Aka my friends and sister have arrived from my own universe to come bring me home.”
“Oh, that’s good news!” Maddie appeared in the doorway to the kitchen, suddenly. “We haven’t been having much luck with finding ways to make portals into another dimension. How did you kids manage it?”
“We didn’t.” Tucker patted Frostbite on the arm, the ghost looking a little unsure. “Frostbite has a ghost artifact which can track down portals in the Ghost Zone to wherever you want. We used the Booo-merang to track down Danny, and then asked the artifact to bring us wherever that was.”
Danny felt his core stutter. “Oh, shit. The Booo-merang— Did someone remember to grab it?”
“Yeah.” Tucker held up the Booo-merang, which he… apparently had had all the time? Man, all these emotions made it easy to miss stuff, huh? “Come on, man, do you really think that I would abandon a piece of technology just like that?”
Maddie stepped out of the doorway to enter the room properly, Jack right behind her. “Well, I’m glad you managed it, at least. I assume you’ve come to say goodbye, Phantom?”
“Yeah, I… yeah.” He shrugged, a little uneasy. What were you supposed to say to alternate universe versions of your parents who you would never see again? “Um. Thanks for letting me stay here, and stuff.”
“Of course, kiddo.” Jack managed to make his way over to Danny, wrapping a heavy arm around him. “We’ve said it before, but you’re our son, even if you’re not from this universe. Of course we’d take care of you.”
“And your own parents must miss you terribly.” Maddie joined the two of them, ruffling Danny’s hair. “It has been so long… I can’t imagine it happening to us.”
“Apparently it’s barely been two weeks for them.” Danny looked at Sam and Tucker, who nodded in confirmation. “But, yeah. I missed them a lot too… No offense to you guys, of course!”
Maddie hummed, stepping away again—and taking Jack with her. “Well, no matter how unfortunate the circumstances… I’m glad that you were here to help Jazz, at least. Thank you for that.”
“Yeah, of course.” He shrugged, trying for casual and probably missing by a mile. “Family, right?”
“You’d better tell your own parents when you get back, though.” Maddie’s expression grew stern. “I don’t know how you planned on explaining your two week absence, but I want you to tell them. Okay, Danny?”
He nodded. “Yeah, I… Yeah.” He swallowed, his eyes feeling watery all of a sudden. “I learned my lesson. I should’ve told them ages ago.”
“Good.” Jack looked around, his eyes settling on Danny’s own Jazz—she was standing near this universe’s Danny, for some reason. “Jazz, sweetie, can you make sure that Danno keeps his promise?”
“Of course. I’ve been hoping for him to tell our parents, but no pressure, right? Speaking of promises, however…” She nudged other Danny. “I promise you that you’d better treat your little sister right, or I’ll come for you, you hear me?”
The other Danny rolled his eyes, grumbling wordlessly.
“Don’t underestimate her, dude,” Tucker piped up, quirking an eyebrow. “She’s been doing martial arts training for years. Seasoned ghost hunter, right there.”
“Yeah, yeah, I got it.” He huffed, shaking his head. “Just trying to get over the fact that my little sister gets to be older than me.”
“Welcome to my life!” Danny laughed, quickly wiping a hand past his eyes to make sure no tears had formed. “I’ve been living the reverse for the past four months, remember?”
“Can’t imagine.” Human Danny shook his head, then stepped past Jazz to offer his hand to Danny. “Either way, thank you for taking care of my little sister. And, y’know. For the wake-up call, back then.”
“And for not kicking your ass in the process?” Danny grinned, taking the offered hand. “Of course, dude, you would’ve done the same for me.”
Human Danny let go, sticking a thumb up at Frostbite. “Maybe, but I don’t have allies like that guy hanging around.”
“Who is he, anyway?” Maddie cocked her head, staring at the massive ghost. “I don’t remember you mentioning him before?”
“Yes, because I talk about my ghostly allies so much.” Danny rolled his eyes. “That’s Frostbite, he’s the leader of the Far Frozen.”
“And he had an artifact that allowed you to travel here, right?” Jack narrowed his eyes, crossed his arms. “How does that work? Is it limited use, or…”
“It can be used as much as desired.” Frostbite unrolled the Infimap to show it off. “You simply ask it to bring you somewhere, and it will, tracking down natural portals if it must.”
“So could he use that more often?” Specter asked, leaning in closer to look at the map. “To come visit?”
Frostbite blinked at her, seemingly surprised. “Yes… I suppose he could. But it is a valuable artifact… I’m not too sure about letting him borrow it so often.”
“It doesn’t have to be often,” Specter insisted, turning big golden eyes on Frostbite. “Please?”
“Come on, Frostbite, they’ve been taking care of him for four months.” Sam crossed her arms, staring down the ghost. “Let them have this.”
“I’ll be careful,” Danny promised. “I learned my lesson from last time.”
Frostbite’s mouth thinned, the ghost’s eyes wandering over to Tucker.
“We already lost him to the Zone once. I would honestly feel safer if he had a magical map which can always bring him home.” Tucker shrugged, ignoring Danny’s glare.
“And he’s always welcome here,” Jack pitched in. “He has done so much for us, and we’ve barely had a chance to pay him back for it.”
“It would be pretty cruel to separate him from Jazz after they’ve gotten so close,” the other Danny added on, a flat expression on his face. “And now that we know it exists, we might just go looking for it in this dimension, and I can’t imagine that our Frostbite would like that very much.”
Maddie nodded along. “At the very least, let us have a look at the Infimap. Maybe we can put together an invention that works similarly, and then you won’t have to worry about it anymore.”
“Well… I suppose that I cannot argue with such sound logic.” Frostbite shook his head, but he didn’t sound all that disgruntled. “But, Great One, you must promise you will be careful with it.”
“Yeah, of course.” He took the map when Frostbite handed it to him, then promptly handed it back. “Which is why I want you to hold onto it. I’ll drop by the Far Frozen when I want to visit this place.”
“Very well.” Frostbite grinned down at him, then looked around the room. “Were these all the goodbyes you had to make?”
“One last thing…” Specter tackled Danny in a hug, dragging him close enough to Jack and Maddie for them to hug him as well.
The three released him, other Danny nodding at him as well.
“I think that that was all.” Danny nodded at Frostbite, floating closer to put his hand on the map. Sam, Tucker, and Jazz grabbed it as well. “Thank you all so much. Goodbye!”
“Bye!” they all shouted back, as Frostbite told the map to take them back home.
The world around them disappeared into a blur of motion, alternating blue and green skies, until they suddenly stood in snow to their ankles.
“Here we are.” Frostbite shook their hands off, rolling up the map. “Great One, you are welcome to visit whenever you want, yes?”
“Yeah, I know.” Danny patted Frostbite’s arm. “Thanks. For everything.”
“It was my pleasure.” Frostbite reached out, almost hesitantly, then ruffled Danny’s hair. “You four had better return home.”
Danny looked around them, spotting the Specter Speeder resting nearby. “Yeah, I guess so. Let’s go, guys.”
They entered the Speeder, Sam settling in behind the wheel. “Oh my god, please tell me these instruments are wrong.”
“Nope, looks like we spent the better part of the evening on this.” Tucker groaned as he dropped down in the co-pilot seat. “Hope you guys are ready to crash into bed when we get home.”
“I sure am.” Danny sat down in one of the extra seats, Jazz taking the one next to him. “I know I promised to tell my parents, but that wait until the morning, right?”
“Right.” Jazz sighed, a soft smile on her face. “I’m proud of you, little brother.”
“Don’t rub it in,” he grumbled back, without heat. “I just spent four months as the older sibling, remember?”
“Oh, I know.” She grinned down at him.
It was strange, but in the past four months, he’d almost forgotten how much taller than him she was.
They spent the flight back through the Ghost Zone mostly silent, after that. Occasional small talk, but nothing major.
Finally, the Speeder touched down in the lab, Jazz stumbling out first. She stopped so abruptly that Danny walked into her back, peering around her.
“Uh, hey,” he said, sheepishly, to the stunned faces of his parents. “So, um. It’s a very long story, and I promise I’ll tell you guys everything, but in the morning, okay? I really need some sleep.”
He stepped past Jazz, allowing Sam and Tucker to climb out of the Speeder as well. Danny paused, turning back to his parents. “And prepare yourselves, because it’s complicated.”

Launchpad’s Association With Della Duck: Okay, Now What?
Tumblr media
Part 1 | Part 2 || Part 3 | Part 4| Part 5 || Part 6 | Part 7 |
Continued from Part 8
Despite everything I’ve collected in the past three posts, there’s a part of me that’s still a little skeptical of what we can expect.
There are nine episodes left of Season 2. Three groups of three is so much yet feels like so little. We’ve got Scrooge's bet with Glomgold, Louie's business with Goldie helping out, possibly another DWD episode, possibly something else staring Team Magic, Magica’s return, Della adjusting to motherhood, Webby supposedly joining the Junior Woodchucks according to the PhatMojo display, the upcoming Moonlander invasion...There’s a lot going on. Is there room for Launchpad to have a sudden identity crisis? If Launchpad truly is the father, it shouldn't take too long for Della to realize, right?
Hm, then again, perhaps it’s not as much as it seems. I'm looking at these elements separately, so, maybe some of them will end up tying in with each other in time for the season’s end while others are just being set-up so they can be elaborated on in the next season.
Tumblr media
With Della taking over a majority of the plane duties now and Drake becoming a real hero, it’s inevitable that Launchpad will end up as his sidekick. But like I’ve said before, LP can’t leave. Dad or not, he’s considered family so why should Della moving back in suddenly change this? They didn’t run out of space for him in the mansion (or wherever that garage is supposed to be) and Scrooge still needs a chauffeur driver. It would be disappointing to find out that Launchpad was nothing but a placeholder in the show he originated from. With DWD integrating itself into DuckTales as a story element, it would be more fitting for LP to go on adventures with Drake more so on occasion instead of for now on. If we get a Darkwing reboot of some sort, maybe it’ll take place whenever LP isn’t around on DT. Maybe the family can join him at times too. Since Dewey’s been joining Launchpad in every DWD related episode so far, maybe he’ll tag along the most.
Tumblr media
Another reason why Launchpad shouldn’t leave is that he and Della would work well as a co-pilot team. A number of us have noticed that LP’s flying is smoother than his landings while Della’s landings are smoother than her flight. They can use their strengths to help each other with their weaknesses, but in order for this to happen, Della will have to change her mindset. She currently sees Launchpad as another obstacle she needs to overcome (and well, nothing can stop Della Duck) but once it’s made clear that he was never meant to replace her, she can let her guard down and allow the opportunity for them to be friends.
I’m reminded a bit of Della’s quote towards Penumbra in “Whatever Happened”.
Tumblr media
“Listen, we both know how this goes: First we hate each other, then we go on a life changing adventure, then BOOM! Best friends!”
I feel like a life changing adventure will help to break the ice between the aviators. Maybe they’ll have to work together to save the kids or there could be something regarding Dewey specifically. He loves hanging out with both of the characters, so maybe he’ll end up bringing them together. The rival pattern seems to always have someone stuck in the middle:
Tumblr media
Zan Owlson with Scrooge & Glomgold,
Tumblr media
    Webby with Lena & Violet,
Tumblr media
And Launchpad with Drake & Jim.
Maybe this would be too early, but perhaps this is where the “Gander-Depths” pattern could come in. Both of these episodes were split between meeting up with a Duck Cousin and Launchpad going on an adventure with an ex. In “Gander” most of the action was in the cousin portion with LP’s part was extremely indescriptive. In “Depths” the cousin portion was less intense in comparison to “Gander” while LP’s portion was more descriptive and he almost joined the adventure. This seems to imply that the action will shift to Launchpad’s side, where he goes on a space related adventure with someone he’s previously dated, to meet up with a Duck Cousin. Seeing how we’ve gotten one “Gander” styled episode per season, this seems more suited for the premiere of Season 3. There’s also a possibility that this could be worked into the Season 2 finale since the production code order gets higher on the season list and the mid-season trailer already implies the invasion will happen within the remaining episodes, but I think Launchpad and Della might already establish a bond before the show reaches either point.
When it comes to Della’s possible realization, a lot of interesting things could happen in the process. If Launchpad’s clone really was a reference to Della, I believe this will be emphasized the longer they interact. Maybe LP starts reiterating things from her even though he wasn’t present during the time she said them. Webby still needs someone to teach her how to fly; what if LP volunteers and his teachings involve the “feel the sky” quote Della said in “Doomsday”? Could it have stemmed from Della helping him with his piloting skills in the past? What if he retells some sorta disoriented version of the Gilded Man story? It seems to be Della’s favorite story to tell since she told the Moonlanders about it too; she could have told it to the father. Or maybe he’ll do the face stroking gesture Della did to her boys in “Nothing Can”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Launchpad has yet to say Della’s name and we’ve never seen his immediate reaction when her name is said. What if this is being held off for a special moment? Maybe he continually keeps getting Della’s name wrong by calling her a bunch of other “D” names, including something over the top like “Ms. Dewey’s Mom”, but when he regains his memory somehow, he’s able to say it without any problems?
The mentions of both Fenton’s and Mark’s fathers in “Chemistry” made me wonder if Della might have any of the father’s belongings. What if Launchpad catches a glimpse of these items or maybe the father’s photograph and feels compelled to do things he wouldn’t normally do? If the family finds out about the invasion and they begin to blame Della for the situation, will Launchpad start to get stressed out like he was in “Shadow War”?
I’ve been theorizing that LP knows Della's Lullaby in some way. Towards the beginning of "Whatever Happened", Della was about to talk about how there was a song she used to sing to someone, but she's interrupted when the moon mite attacks. I was beginning to think that maybe I was too quick to believe this, but during my last viewing I studied her body language before she was attacked: Della keeps a steady gaze as she’s talking to her kids and only breaks it when there’s uncertainty about what she’s saying.
Tumblr media
When she starts talking about the song, her brow becomes a bit furrowed as she looks up into...well, space, with the palm of her hand upturned.
Tumblr media
It feels odd for her to pose like this if she was only referring to the boys. The lullaby could have started off as a special song between the couple that she later modified for her kids. This would give even more weight to the significance of the song. Something subtle that could support this is how the family sang “The Twelve Days of Christmas” before Della's solo episode. Right after the song, a piano version of Della's Mystery Theme was being played during her scene when LP was previously shown playing the piano.

Something else that could support Launchpad knowing the lullaby was how he was interrupted towards the end of “Depths”. Oceanika likes to sing, so was Launchpad going to say “Farewell, sweet, Oceanika. Whenever I put a conch shell to my ear, I won’t hear the ocean I’ll hear your song.”? If he knows anything about the lullaby, Della might use it to help him regain his memory. Interestingly enough, a couple of instances like this has already happened: Jim used the Darkwing Duck theme song to help the security guard to remember who he was while Launchpad snuck his way into the studio. In “Depths”, Huey tested Fethry’s claim about Mitzi by singing the Blue Krill song. Something else that can match this is how Violet and Webby were humming to help bring Lena back.

If Launchpad is the father and Della went after him with the Spear, we can definitely expect Donald to clash with them when he returns; Launchpad more so than Della. Their absence caused so many hardships for the family and his sister got injured. When all three of them become present, there's a good chance that their parenting styles will differ from his and cause conflicts. Donald may even feel that his role as a caretaker is being threatened. Eventually, I think Donald will learn to get past his bitter feelings and realize that the three of them are important to equation: They’re family. Things may have turned out badly with the Spear, but it's not too late for them to work together to better the situation. LP owes Donald so much and would appreciate him for stepping in to raise the boys. Perhaps both of the pilots could turn to him for parental advice.

On its own, I like the idea of Della and LP just becoming friends or LP becoming HDL’s step-dad but these things completely ignore the burning questions we’ve been wanting to know about HDL’s biological father. He’s always been a bigger mystery than Della; she had a good amount of solid information to work with before the reboot came about. The father is almost a clean slate. We’re a season and sixteen episodes in and yet no one has bothered to talk about him. If it’s just “he’s dead” or “he’s a deadbeat” and nothing more, why is this still lingering around instead of getting addressed to finally get it out of the way? It would be underwhelming to wait this long for a mention that goes nowhere, so there must be quite a story to tell with him. If the father is alive and completely separate from Launchpad, it’s hard to imagine him being added to the cast when it’s pretty full already. And since he also missed out on ten years of parenthood, it would be odd to have him as a reoccuring or minor character if he’s meant to make up for lost time with his kids.

As I’ve noted in a previous post, Scrooge was keeping her likeness under lock and key when Della went missing and went to great lengths to do this. After a piece of junk mail with her name on it was delivered to the mansion, he bought the post office and caused the mailman that delivered it, to never be seen again. The painting of Scrooge and the Duck Twins fighting with Captain Peghook’s crew was taken down and placed in the garage. A corner of the painting was ripped and covered Della up. When Scrooge went to look at his scuba diving gear in “Woo-oo!”, a newspaper lying on the floor with a front page article covering Della’s disappearance had a big chunk missing from it. Scrooge hid Della’s belongings in a secret room in the Money Bin's archives and possibly gave orders to Quackfaster to make it difficult for anyone to access it. In the same episode, Webby mentions that even Della's records are gone!

Launchpad just met her and yet he's been wearing an outfit reminiscent of hers this whole time. It was his own choice to wear a separate outfit for piloting. Even if he's heard of Della, that isn’t enough to explain why he’s wearing a green shirt like hers when she keeps it concealed at all times. That’s probably the most glaring thing in all of this: If some random guy is emulating her outfit, then how did he correctly guess the color of her shirt?

The first time Della's shirt was ever exposed to us was during her time on the Moon. In "Whatever Happened", her buttons are missing; giving an explanation to why she wasn't able to button up her jacket. In "Golden Spear", her buttons are back but she never uses them. It's possible that there could have been a designing error somewhere in this, but it's highly possible that her shirt was exposed for us to make a connection between her and Launchpad.

If Scrooge was hiding everything Della-related and if Launchpad didn’t know who Della was, how did he know that Scrooge had a plane? Or even where it was being kept? Scrooge wouldn’t keep the Sunchaser out in the open, it would have been somewhere in storage or carefully hidden. Judging by Scrooge’s reminder about LP’s salary, the first episode was basically his first day on the job. He wasn’t hanging around the premises that long. Was LP snooping around long enough for him to find it? Or was he recalling prior information before the Spear incident? I suppose it could be argued that Webby could have known where it was since she already knows so much about Scrooge and his belongings, but her fruitless search on Della before Dewey came along, makes this a bit hard to believe.

Of course, I could be wrong about certain things, but there’s a little too much potential here to brush off. The romantic element of the show has been increasing as well as the concepts of reunions after long absences, finding out someone else has an unexpected connection to your past, electrical manipulation and genetic mutation. Even when I do mislead myself, it helps me to catch on to things that might be worthy of attention. Then when the show challenges the explanations I come up with, I can look back at these notable instances and try to figure out alternative reasons that might be closer to the truth. Wherever this cargo plane is headed, it’s leading up to something special happening.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading! It means a lot to me. I glad you enjoyed my rambling as I try to figure things out.
TL;DR: These last nine episodes are gonna be nuts.
Oh, and stop sleeping on Launchpad. He’s important.
