mc gets chained and abused as a lesson, how would the brothers and/or the others react when they lose their will to fight back and start to romanticize/stockholm their situation?
yea i'm good thanks for asking hhhh
The second part of your ask:
how would the brothers react if stockholm mc decides to stop eating as much so they'll look more pretty, dainty, abuseable, not have the strengh to fight back? would they encourage it, be greatful, not care at all or tell them to eat more?
I can answer this for ya, though I would like to say that regardless of your size, reader, you are pretty, dainty and abusable just the way you are 💖💖 I also don't mean any of the below to mean that any of the brothers wouldn't like fat darlings or anyone of a particular body type. As a fat girl I would never betray my audience in that way 🫡 Let me know if I missed any TWs
(Gn!reader x AMAB!yandere)(Disordered eating)(pro eating disorder attitudes)(violence against reader)(18+ readers only please, mdni)[This is fetish content and abuse is disgusting and inexcusable in real life.]
Yandere!Lucifer would not mind at all if your will to fight back disappeared. In his eyes, it means you have learned your lesson and won't be foolishly disobedient anymore. He will probably give you more privileges because of it. The starving yourself, he would not approve of. He decides what you eat, how much of it, and when, so he'd tell you to knock it off.
Yandere!Mammon would at first like your new attitude because it means he can do whatever he likes with you, but then it would start to bother him. I think he actually likes the banter the two of you get into, so seeing how deflated you are now would make him kind of sad. He'd probably try to act goofier to make you laugh and chide him. The not eating, Mammon wouldn't see a problem with a first, just thinking youre on a harsh diet (which isnt abnormal in his social circles because hes a model), but once you started showing physical symptoms like being faint, sallow skin, shaking hands, brain fog, he would tell you to stop it and eat more. He might do this in a snarky way to hide that he feels bad for the role he played in your becoming like this.
Yandere!Levi has more experience with two dimensional people than real people, so I don't think he'd quite understand how bad things were getting for a long time. He'd see you losing the will to fight as making you more sweet and gentle, and make you dress up in frilly lacy pink things like docile characters in whatever he's reading/watching. He also would probably agree with you that it increases how dainty you seem for you to eat less, remarking on how you're like a doll that only he gets to play with. He wouldn't notice until your symptoms got much, much worse that there's a problem, and I think it would probably take him asking one of his brothers (in a poorly disguised hypothetical) to figure out exactly what's wrong.
Yandere!Satan doesn't just want you to be docile, he wants complete and active submission. Saying that to say, he doesn't just want you to nod when he's talking to you, he wants you to kneel and bow until your head touches the floor. If you are submissive in that way, he will love it. If you're not, he'd be irritated and you can expect more abuse until you get it right. Once you start eating less, though, he'd probably consult with some books on humans to figure out what has gone wrong with his. Eventually he'd find some stuff about the physical impacts of eating less and the psychology of the way you're behaving. Then start trying to unwilt you the way someone does to a plant, so he'd take you outside on walks on a leash, play music for you, let you talk to one person a day (humans are social creatures, after all) and tell you to eat more. If you refuse to eat he will make you eat by force.
Yandere!Asmo won't like that you're more docile because to him it would feel like you're less attentive. He likes when you're outgoing and opinionated, he wants you to be fully present with him (and only him) and reactive. He'd assume you're kind of depressed so he'd take you to do fun stuff to try and cheer you up, like shopping and amusement parks and spas. With the not eating, I think Asmo subscribes to diet culture in general because of some lines of dialogue he has, including a couple about dieting himself, so he probably wouldn't even give you not eating a second thought. He may give you a compliment or two. I think he would be another who needs someone else to point out that it's becoming an issue.
Yandere!Beel would not like that you are romanticizing the situation because to him the way that he restricts and sometimes abuses you is a means to an end, where you can be a happy family together and you won't try to run away any more LOL He would try and tell you that he's not really like that so you don't need to get used to it, and when you seem comfortable while restrained he would be sad. The not eating would also make him really sad. He would encourage you to eat more and more, and probably would also force you to eat if you didn't.
Because of his own experience with being restrained, if Yandere!Belphie is chaining you up and abusing you, you have probably made him very, very angry. At this point he doesn't trust you at all, and you've probably done something to make him feel abandoned. He'd not buy your docile "act" and maybe even mock you for it (Belphegor ur chapter 16 is showing). You'd better work hard at regaining his good favor, because who knows what he'll decide to do if you let him stew on it? He also would not like you not eating your food, but at this point he's more likely to just order you to eat rather than force feeding you.
How was that anon? Did it scratch ur itch?
Everyone, send more asks! 🙇🏿‍♀️

THIS WILL BE SO UNGODLY LONG THIS IS BASICALLY A PSUEDO ONE SHOT

you and Fred were friends...
...simply friends
yep
mhm
only friends
friends that liked to casually dominate each other multiple times a week
sometimes multiple times a day
but regardless of your entirely messy relationship, you were best friends
...weren’t you?
“Fuck, Y/N, you’re so goddamn tight me,” Fred hissed as he was pounding inside of you, determined to release some kind of frustration from seeing you with George for the whole day when you both knew you had really just wanted to spend the day with Fred. Right?
“Freddie, you feel so good” you said airily as he hiked up one of your legs onto one of his shoulders.
“Yeah, princess? You like the way I fill you up so good, make you fucking mine?” When you moaned in response he threw your other leg onto the opposite shoulder, determined to show you just how much you were his, and what that meant for him. He had been watching you for months pretend nothing was happening outside this room, and regardless if you knew it or not, it had been killing him the day he agreed to your rendezvous the first time.
“Yes, Freddie, fuck, yes”
“Gonna come for me, sweet girl?”
“God, yes, Fred-“ and with a harsh thrust to your g-spot you clenched around him tightly, your body releasing onto him in a massive wave. He put his free hand that didn’t have your arms pinned above you to your clit, determined to have you as overstimulated as possible.
“Fred, please-“ you whined vehemently at his rough touch.
“I’m coming baby, I’m right here” and with a final pound he had smoothed your walls with him, the throbbing finally subsiding. He rolled his hips slowly to ride out his high, and he then pulled out, falling to your side and pulling you into his arms. He could feel your heart pounding as your breasts heaved against him, desperate for air flow where he had rid you of it all.
“We haven’t held each other like this in a while, Freddie...it’s...it’s really nice.” You whispered against his bare chest, pressing a kiss or two there. He nodded and buried his mouth in your hair, fluttering his eyes.
“I promise I’ll take every opportunity to hold you, okay?”
that was tuesday
let’s skip to Thursday morning
you had only told one other person about your complicated relationship with Fred, and that was Hannah Abbot
you trusted her, you saw her as your BEST friend
but unfortunately, good ol’ hannah didn’t really feel the same
she had it out for you when Roger Davies had confessed he had a crush on you at the Yule Ball, kissed you even, against your consent
see, he was Hannah’s date
and she didn’t like that very much
to top it allllll off?
she had been casually crushing on Fred ever since she had her heart broken by Roger
so now here you all were, seventh year and you assumed as per usual that everything was fine
when clearly, unbeknownst to you
this bitch saw you six feet under
so Hannah did what she knew would hurt you the most
she told Roger :)
“Please he’s absolutely balls deep in love with her, but poor thing doesn’t know she’s using him for a roll in the sack.” Said Hannah, filing her nails in the courtyard. Roger looked at her absolutely dumbfounded.
“No, Y/N, isnt like that. And besides, Fred’s a good mate of mine and...She just wouldn’t do that to him. Feelings or not, she’s not one to use people.” He shook his head starting to get up from the tree he’d been leaning on.
“Well, she used you, didn’t she?” She purred demurely. He turned to look at her, jaw clenched.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He gritted out.
“She’s making him her personal whore, exactly like she did when she rejected you at the Ball...I mean...cmon, Rog. Don’t people deserve to know who she really is?”
everyone had heard the next day how Y/N was fucking Fred Weasley like an Olympic sport
and how he wasn’t the one coming out on top for the first time
at first he didn’t know what he did when he walked into the Great Hall to stares and whispers
George had tried to get him to go back to bed so he could bring him food
but fred demanded answers
and when he found out what it was
...he was crushed
You walked into the cascading staircase, bounding up the stairs. It was Thursday night, you and Fred’s night to be alone while George and Lee would be hanging out. You walked into the room to see Fred, throwing things onto his bed and looking angry and...hurt?
“Fred, what-what is all this?” He didn’t look at you, just continued to pick stuff up off the floor, and got one of your bras. He threw it at you.
“It’s all your shit, Y/N. Might as well help since this is the last time you’ll ever be in my room. Or around me again quite frankly.” He started to look down again and keep working but he heard you whimper and his eyes flashed up to yours. He started to laugh harshly. “Oh my god, stop.” He rolled his eyes and threw his arms out. “You got what you wanted from me didn’t you, Y/N? Quick shag and no feelings and knowing you had an entire fucking human being completely and utterly devoted to you with, what did Ron say? ‘Half the commitment’?” He smiled at you but it was one with rage, with tears pooling at his eyes, pain emitting off his body in hot waves. He didn’t even know he was shouting.
“I mean, Jesus, I’m in love with you and you got to go on and-and fuck whoever you want because guess what at the end of the day you get to tell everyone that Fred fucking Weasley is your own personal whore and would do anything for you and that just got you where you wanted it didn’t it? Didn’t it?” He had stopped yelling, his heart pounding as he took in the sight of you fully in tears now, flinching at him quietly. He felt immediately then like he was going to throw up, something wasn’t right, you usually were so fiery and assertive and here you were looking like a dog that got kicked repeatedly. He swallowed thickly. “Get your stuff and get the fuck out I can’t stand the sight of you.”
Without looking at him you reached onto his bed and grabbed everything you could carry, and swiftly left the room. Everyone in the Gryffindor common room, except George, looking at you with pure unbridled disdain.
George was the only it seemed, that cared about you at this time for the next couple weeks
He didn’t tell Fred, but it had been George that had been sneaking up food to you in your dorm room
It had been George that had sent you little notes in class that said things like
I love you, Y/N. I believe in you, okay?
He even visited your dorm one day when you couldn’t move so much as one leg off your bed, and he caught you then, while you were sobbing about the loss of Fred and yourself and he held you and put you back in bed
and waited until you fell back asleep and moved the hair out of your face
he needed to tell Fred the truth
meanwhile, Fred was floundering
he had fallen back into his coping mechanism of sex and violence, mostly the first one
he had started hooking up with virtually everyone in his year that he’d ever rejected
after all - fred was labeled as a slut so why not act like one
if there was anything Fred was good at, it was being loud
in bed it had never been an issue - in fact, it was a talent now, yeah?
he’d been hearing it around school for weeks now
how easy he was
how much he would do to get in a girl’s pants
how he dipped his wick in anything that moved
anything and everything
he got it from girls
“c’mon freddie can i take a ride just once”
to the guys
“Oi freddie, you let your mates hit it for free too?”
if it were from a guy he’d usually swing a punch
or 12
he’d gotten in his most fights that he ever had in any of his years at hogwarts
but then Georgie came along:
George had waited on Fred’s bed, as his twin was in the shower. Lucky for Fred, George had been able to trace Roger’s little dip in the gossip system all the way back to Hannah Abbott, who everyone knew was bullshit, and had decided to let his brother know exactly what kind of a supreme asshat he was being to their best friend (and the love of Fred’s life, let’s be super honest.)
“Georgie, what the hell are you doing-”
“About to give you the whip cracking of your life, dear brother.” George swung his legs off the bed as Fred continued to dry his hair in the mirror, rolling his eyes.
“Is this about the last girl I had by? We didn’t fuck on your bed if that’s what you’re so worried about.” Fred quipped and George took everything in his power to not bitch slap the hell out of his older twin. George clenched his jaw and rolled it.
“You fucked up, Freddie.” He said quietly. Fred turned slowly to look at him. “Excuse me?”. “You. Fucked. Up.” George said a bit louder. “Y/N got played. By Hannah Abbott and Roger Davies. She’s had a crush on you this whole time, you absolute dumb piece of shit.” And then George did push Fred then backwards onto the bathroom wall, but he was too dumbfounded by the usually sensible twin’s behavior to do anything back.
“That’s-I don’t understand-“
“Oh my god, Fred. Hannah’s been in love with for ages, she lied. To everyone. Roger did too, he’s wanted to get with Y/N since day 1 you know that just as well as I do.” Fred tightened his arm, thinking about Roger with his lips and arms on you that night last year-
“Your point? She still said that shit about me” he said gruffly, but a pool of anxiety swirled in his stomach all the same
“Don’t you get it? Y/N is in love with you. She didn’t say or do anything to hurt you. At all. She hasn’t been eating, she hasn’t been doing homework, she throws up constantly, she’s barely left bed but to go to the library and usually all she does there is sleep anyway, she cries all the time and it’s been me making sure she still is present if not to just see people every damn day! So quit youre moping and fix this shit or I swear to God, Freddie, I’ll knock your block off.” George was heaving, pools of water in his eyes as he swallowed. “She’s my best friend too, you know.”
Fred looked up at George then and had started to cry. All of those things he said, all of the words he spat at her like they could burn her skin and cause some of the pain he believed she had caused him, when in reality you had-you had done nothing wrong.
“Georgie, I’m sorry” he choked.
“I know you are. But I’m not the one to say it to right now...you’ve gotta find her, Freddie. Please.”
you had been in the corner of the quidditch stands
the wind was blowing against your hair
you couldn’t be in your room anymore, it started to smell like you
and you, prior to an hour ago, didn’t smell too appetizing
you reeked of sweat and tears and your own sick
you took a shower so hot you wanted it to burn you alive
maybe sanitize the last of your fear and your hurt away
you had lost weight, you had lost feeling
you all in all had just lost
and you had never wanted to go home so badly, already considering writing home
you hated being reminded that your best friend and crush hated you
wanted you to be hated by everyone else too
but then, you heard footsteps
“Y/N?” Fred whispered to himself as he saw you in the stands. You looked so worn, so lifeless sitting there - he almost didn’t recognize you from the way your hair, usually scrunched up and bouncy had fallen flatly against your face, further slapped around by the wind outside. You had been wearing an oversized sweater and your sweatpants had pooled around your ankles. Simply put, you were miserable.
“Y/N?” He called again once he was standing in front of you. You turned to look at him in what felt like slow motion, but when you locked eyes with him, you immediately felt fearful.
“I-I’m sorry, I’ll leave now” you sputtered
“No, hey, wait, please” he reached out to grab your arm and you froze, letting him take it. He looked at you, with a flash of fear and worry on your face and he wanted to throw up knowing he was the one that made you feel like that.
“Fred, please let go” you hoarsely whispered.
“No, love, I’m not going to let go I have some things to apologize for.”
You started to cry, eyes dropping again to his hand on your arm and breathing feeling suddenly like a very hard task. “You hate me now: you sobbed and you pulled yourself from his grip, turning away from him and gathering your bag. He started to scramble for your hold again tears starting to stream down his face
“No, angel, please, I could never hate you”
“Oh? What about those things you said to me in your room-” you were walking faster over the benched seats, making your way to the other side.
“I know I know I said those things in my room but I can’t believe them because you have to believe me when I tell you I’m in love with you” and he was sobbing at your body turned away from him. You turned to look at him with a skeptical quirk of your face.
“No, no you don’t.” You spat.
“Yes, Y/N, I do please let me explain” he said earnestly taking in your bright eyes and the furrow of your brow.
“People who love each other don’t scream at them and throw things.” You said flatly. You wanted him to be true but you couldn’t make yourself believe him.
“Just give me five minutes of your time and-and if you hate me you never have to see me again. Please.” He closed the gap between you two and motioned for you to sit down. You licked a tear from your lip and nodded siting on a bench besides him.
“Hannah and Roger told everyone-”
“I know what happened. What they did. I want to hear about you. And what you said. And are saying” you looked at him in the eyes with steel burning behind your irises.
He sighed and rubbed his jaw. “I thought that what we had was purely sex in your eyes. And I was too much of a coward to ever ask you, so when I heard someone tell me that my own insecurities could possibly be true,” he inhaled a harsh breath as tears started to fall “I-I was crushed. By the idea that you saw me as what other people saw me as...as a toy? I guess? Or a sexual prop? To use when you wanted. But I hide my feelings a lot as you know, so even if you did feel that way, it would’ve looked like I agreed because I hate you knowing how sad I am,” he started to choke on his tears, the anguish of knowing he hurt you this much was too much for him to ever be able to handle. “I just wanted to hold you and whisper in your ear and tell you how much I love you and the thought of my own fears being true pushed you away. And you never have to forgive me. I-when I yelled at you like that I wanted to see you hurt, I think. I wanted you to see how sad it made me to think about you with other people like you had been with me and” he took a final breath and you pulled his body into you. “Y/N, my love I’m so sorry.” His sobs shook your body, the feeling and angle of the destroyed boy you love shaking you everywhere. You pressed kisses to his head. “Freddie, I love you” you repeated “I love you here and here and here and here and here” and with every kiss you gave him, you were determined to soothe him. “I-I’ sorry too, for not being as forthright with you about how i felt too. It’s always been you, Freddie.” He choked out a watery smile and he leaned in to kiss your face everywhere he could, his tears stinging against the wind and your cheeks.
“If-If you could ever be with me I will always be open to it at any time, you know that don’t you? I-I understand if you can’t.” He held his forehead to yours, his nose brushing yours ever so slightly.
“Freddie, I love you. You were who I missed when I couldn’t get out of bed for fuck’s sake you’re all I want,” and he leaned into you then fully, capturing your wet and chapped lips against his. Your arms wrapped around his neck and he melted into you like this

Do you think c! Quackity are skilled on the mastering of "necessary convincing" on a person? And man the stream yesterday was so intense dark theme.
hello !
this is testament of how behind i am in asks, haha, considering this was sent basically at the beginning of q’s visits and it’s been ,, uh ,, several months since then ASJKFLJAS - but im going to try to answer it now while pretending that we dont have months proving that c!quackity is very willing to do whatever the hell it takes to get the revive book from someone.
i think that the ,, technicalities? of the torture were never an issue - everyone in the dream smp universe has to know how to use a weapon in its most basic form, after all, just to defend themselves from mobs and stuff, tho some people are clearly more adept at using them than others. torture is ultimately just hurting someone until they do what you want them to do (way oversimplified, but this definition works here) - physically, if you’re able to kill a zombie, there’s functionally little different with inflicting harm on a defenseless unarmed human with no means of defending themselves.
the real challenge, as with most things in the minecraft roleplay, comes from the mental side - how far is c!quackity really willing to go? obviously he *can* hurt someone, but doing so also tends to go against a lot of our most basic instincts as humans. defying that becomes the real question to consider - and c!quackity, in his increased willingness to hurt not only c!dream, but everyone as he’s manipulated people more and used people more for his own gain in the last few months, seems to providing as much of an answer as we’re going to get.
this obviously isnt to say that he isn’t conflicted, or that he’s pure evil !! but c!quackity, by his own admission, seems to hold little trust for other people and ideals anymore. his main goal is Las Nevadas and whatever he needs to make it great - anything and everything else is either a means to his end or an obstacle in his way. i dont doubt that there are chinks to this mindset to exploit, things that he cares about enough to take his single-minded focus off of Las Nevadas. as of now, though, i don’t think that torturing c!dream and the violence it’ll require of him will be that breaking point.
anyway, have a really dark snippet exploring c!quackity some more !! he’s really fun to write, though i don’t think i’ve really mastered his voice yet - practice makes perfect, i guess. heed the warnings and hope you enjoy!
tw: torture, abuse, blood, injuries, branding, violence, death mention, abuse apologism, mental deterioration, dark content, dark imagery, very dark portrayal of c!quackity, pandora’s vault/prison arc
There’s a certain learning curve that comes with torturing someone.
It sounds obvious, thinking back, as much as it sounds morbid as all hell, but it’s not like he’s in any position to judge. Quackity swipes another stack of iron from a chest, momentarily grumbling about the cost, before melting down three ingots for the blade of his next axe. He could just do it in a crafting table, but there’s a degree of calm in the monotony of doing it all by hand, slowly watching as the iron begins to glow red hot in the heat of the furnace and then hammering it into shape on his anvil. He hadn’t been good at it before, had let Sapnap do the majority of the smithing for the three of them in the past, but. Well.
When you’re eating through several sets of iron tools a week, either from bending them out of shape against unforgiving obsidian or melting the blades past saving in lava or burning them all entirely, when he’s too tired to be bothered cleaning off the blood and simply chucks the used tools after a session into the molten rock outside the cell, you kind of have to figure out how to make your own shit so others don’t get suspicious.
He beats the metal into a block, humming softly over the clangs of his hammer. There’s definitely a learning curve to crafting weapons, too - he’s pretty proud of the ones that he can make, now, even though he’s still no good at any of the fancier furnishings and finishes (nor does he particularly care about them). Figuring out how to torture someone effectively was a similarly slow process - finding their limits and how far to push before something, inevitably, gives. He hadn’t exactly handled it the best in the first few visits, usually retching into the nearest wastebasket at the smell, at the feeling of blood coating his fingertips, at the screams ringing incessantly in his head. It wasn’t all that long before he forwent sleep altogether, devoting all of his time on paperwork and calls and anything that would deafen the cries that would’ve haunted him otherwise. He was no good with his tools, either - more than a few times, in those early visits, did he end up slicing too deep or going too far and needing to cut the session short for Sam to come in and administer health pots before Dream died and rendered all of their efforts useless.
(Sapnap had been the one to first teach him how to wield an axe, correcting his stance and his grip with gentle, calloused hands. He remembers them training on the newly laid dirt surface of Mexican L’manburg, sweat dripping down his neck from the sun beating against their heavy armor, Sap laughing at his unbalanced, heavy-armed swings and demonstrating with his own weapon, movements fluid and graceful as if it was an extension of his own arm. In the cell, he thinks of Sapnap’s voice, firm in his focus - feet at least shoulder width apart, hands braced on the axe handle, left sitting just above the end and the right just a few inches below the head - and swings.)
It had been...a process. A bloody, often painful process - his hands are calloused, now, in ways they never were before, from the constant handling of his many tools. His back aches constantly from bending over, and his shirt - more often splattered with blood than not - now bears some permanent pink stains that he can’t get out no matter how hard he tries. (The laundry, he thinks wryly, had been a hell of a learning process as well.) He picks up the metal with a pair of tongs, easing it back under the fire’s heat until it glows a soft pink, and then places it back onto the anvil to work - slowly beating the metal into shape.
He’s had to learn a lot. The lessons are fascinating, in a gruesome, morbid sort of way. He’d brought a brand the other day, painstakingly carved into a fancy, curlicued Q all on his own, used in his work at Las Nevadas originally to finish furnishing a few pieces of leather furniture he had scattered around the city. As Dream struggled under him, skin blackening under the white-hot metal, he’d immersed himself in the sight, far more similar to his past leatherwork than he might’ve originally expected. He almost wanted to do it again, just to compare, but the stress of it all had been enough to knock the prisoner into shock, which had put a significant damper on the rest of his visit. He watches the iron glow contemplatively from his anvil, not nearly as hot as he works at it.
Another dip in the furnace later, it’s heated just enough to work out the finishings, and he carefully knocks the ends into a blade. Picking it up with a pair of tongs, he holds it up to a nearby piece of glowstone, grinning at the finished axe head. There’s still quite a bit to do, technically - he still needs to sharpen it along with the other ones he’s finished, as well as fasten them to their handles, but even so - it looks good. He examines it, back and front, against the light. It’s probably his best one yet.
Quackity smiles to himself as he puts it down with the rest, pulling out his calendar from behind him and carefully marking another red X over the date. Learning to torture someone takes a hell of a lot of time, but. Well.
He has all the time in the world.

Hi, thanks for your question! I’m not the best person to ask for information. I didn’t know anything about Elton John before seeing Rocketman, and I actually just got a biography on Elton which I want to finish reading soon. But I’ll try to answer as best I can! I’ve linked the articles/sources. Also, if anyone has more information or a different interpretation, please tell me, I’m open to changing my opinion.
I wouldn’t trust Rocketman’s portrayal to be an accurate representation of the real person/events, especially since those involved, including Elton, describe it as a subjective fantasy movie. I'm not sure what Elton intends for the audience to take as truth, besides the emotional truths.
I did do some research on John Reid’s side of the story right after seeing Rocketman because I feel uncomfortable when someone is portrayed as kind of a one-dimensional villain if they're a real person, and especially since this story was being told solely from an (embittered?) ex’s perspective (and one with a lot of social influence).
I guess you’re most interested in whether Reid was that manipulative, or emotionally/physically abusive in his relationship with Elton? (You might have already seen my post on this, but) one example is, Rocketman suggests that Reid manipulated Elton’s feelings for him in order to become his manager (or at least people interpret the movie that way). In contrast, Reid has said that he didn’t want to be Elton’s manager initially, and was “pressured by Elton, pressured by his mother” (1). So Reid’s initial motivations for entering a romantic relationship with Elton were not just about advancing his career.
Rocketman portrays Reid flirting with other men, and makes an instance of cheating the catalyst for the breakup. On the reason for the breakup, both of them were vague. Elton has said Reid was “more unfaithful than I liked”, while Reid said they broke up because Elton “needed to go off and play the field”, which might be suggesting cheating on Elton’s part? (2). Reid has admitted that he is “quite flirty”, which had gotten him “into tight corners” (3), but that’s not an admission of cheating.
Rocketman shows an instance of one-sided physical abuse, which is probably the most important/damning accusation. There are plenty of sources on Reid being violent with other people (very easy to find), and on Reid and Elton’s tempers, and on their personal relationship being antagonistic. In an interview with Uncut magazine (I don’t have a link, it’s not online) Elton says “there’s nothing worse than playing [a concert] when the sound is bad... I just walked off and didn’t return until I’d punched my soundman in the face, which is very unusual for me”.
They have both commented on the nature of their personal fights. Reid revealed that their arguments got "so bad we end[ed] up knocking one another around. I've given Elton more than one black eye” (4), which describes exchanging of blows. A 1996 Elton John interview with the New Yorker describes one specific fight: “Elton guzzled eight vodka Martinis in thirty minutes. He woke to find a trashed room, and was told that, following an argument-- ‘something to do with a boyfriend’-- he had ‘got hold of John Reid, sat on top of him, and punched and punched and punched him’ until his nose was broken” (10). That was in Elton’s own words. These suggest that the physical violence was more mutual, and actually a lot bloodier than portrayed in the film, and the result of fights that escalate into violence and not one-sided abuse.
(update 10/9/19) In Elton’s autobiography, the incident is described much more mildly than in the New Yorker: “Some observers said it looked like I'd broken his nose”, and that he can’t remember it at all, but if it did happen, it would have been “payback”. On his change of tone, note that the New Yorker interview was pre-breakup/court case. Elton also says of the incident: “I had never hit anyone in my adult life before, and I never have since. I hate physical violence to the point that I can't even watch a rugby match”. There is a contradiction here- did he hit his soundman or not? Maybe that was a joke? (/update)
I don’t think Elton has described Reid as “abusive” (at least I wasn’t able to find that), and I don’t know if he would choose to. The “John Reid is an abuser” thing is a (fair) interpretation of the film by the audience, and not from Elton himself. In my opinion, just based on the interviews I've cited here, not portraying Elton as physically violent even once in the film was a bad decision by the filmmakers.
Here is a description of Elton and Reid’s relationship as mutually destructive by writer David Evans, a former employee who is no longer on good terms with either of them.
Anyway, the only people who know what really went on are Elton and Reid... Both of them have written memoirs that they intend to publish. Elton's is coming out this October. Reid actually wrote his back in 2005 (7), but has yet to publish, and I don’t know what he’s waiting for (to die?). So maybe there will be contradictions between the two memoirs, and then you can choose who to believe based on... whatever criteria you have, or maybe there won’t be contradictions. Maybe Reid won’t publish after all.
(update 10/20/19) So Elton’s autobiography is out. really quick bad summary:
-John Reid sleeps with everyone, most of their arguments were about reid’s infidelity
-they each hit each other exactly once (I didn’t expect this)
-reid hitting elton was the reason elton broke up with him
-John Reid isnt an abuser :) i’m very happy about the conclusion to this

Dead Man Blues
Doc Scratch 4:28 PM
Its been an hour or so since your big meeting with the others, hopefully things have cooled down somewhat since then. You'd like to think you kept it quite calm and tasteful, despite your overall annoyance. Most of this time you spent updating your journal. You really have to do something about all these journals, its not safe to keep so many. And yet... With a sigh you set your pen aside. Time to do yet more damage control. You still think theres a chance you can get through to Trace, though perhaps you might be as bad as Clover in taht regard. Hoping is one thing, some men just dont change. Still, you make your way down to the holding cells. Perhaps your chat with Trace just needed a more dire backdrop. A broken arm and a cold concrete room with metal bars could be just what the Doctor ordered. Hoo hoo.
Trace 9:01 PM
Dire backdrop is an understatement. Your arm is long swollen, wrapped carefully in your shirt to give it some stability. You know a bit of first aid, but that is surprisingly difficult when it's your own arm and the only means you got available are what you have on your person. The new wound on your chest is just as aching, red and bloody with a hint of gold. You may have managed to pass out for a few hours, but you could hardly call that sleep, especially with that nightmare. Her body, stabbed and strung up - not Aradia's, but Nepeta's. A message to the one closest to her - Fin, angryy setting fire to your very self. The images linger, even long after you finally come to. And then the nightmare after you wake up - Snowman and how she dragged Fin in for your mutual punishment. How she used your wedding rings to violently erase the tattoo on your chest marking your love and relationships. When Scratch enters, you're wide awake, as much as you loathe it. Your mind still feels foggy and worlds away, definitely not prepared for a talk with him.
Doc Scratch 2:28 AM
You study him as you walk in, taking note of the remnants of Snowmans lesson. As graceful as she is deadly, as always. The gold makes a nice addition in your opinion. You take a chair from the nearby table and move it to in front of the bars in silence. After you moment you sit backwards with your arms resting over the back of the chair sit down normally, like a gentleman. This isnt an interrogation, or a call for confession, its just a conversation. "So, lets have it out, Trace. Whats this Droog business really all about. Dont you realize what youve cost yourself?"
Trace 9:51 AM
It never not feels like an interrogation with Scratch. You look up and watch him as he gets comfortable, then stare off to the side when he speaks. The muscles in your jaw tense, and when you reply, your hoarse and cracking voice clearly shows your exhaustion and pain. "Sir.. Do we really need to do this now? I'm not exactly the best for a talk right now and I'm really not too keen on netting me another scar for mouthing off..." Of course, you're aware he wouldn't have it any other time then when you're broken and at your wit's end.
Doc Scratch 11:27 AM
"If you're worried about your mouth, then I suggest you keep a civil tongue. I'm not concerned, though. Theres a kind of freeing honesty that cement walls and metal bars bring that can be found nowhere else. At this point, I would rather you speak freely, its just us now." Just the two of you. Man to man, or whatever Trace can be considered. Its an interesting thought, his classification may change as his DNA did. You'll have to look into that later. For now, your eyes are solely on him. His broken body, his pain. "Tell me true, Trace. I want to hear it. All of it. I wont punish you for speaking truthfully when asked. Its lies I hate the most."
Trace 3:03 PM
You give him a sour smile. You'll believe it when you see it. "What this is about, you really gotta ask?" Feels like you already talked plenty enough about this, and you doubt you got anything else to say that could placate him. Only plenty of frustration that has built up over everything, and you're way too tired to filter your words. Lets see who of the two of you is going to regret that more. "I.. am sorry that any of this ever reflected back on you, Nepeta or any of the Felt. It should never have been anything but personal. Which, I realize...  there's not really a personal in this outfit, is there?" you begin, actually honestly. "This... it was nothing more than a brawl between two guys heated up on a little too much emotion. But then this bastard.. abducted Nepeta, tortured and abused her, and then me. Cause he was pissed he got decked in the face. And he kept going, provoking us again and again, paralyzing her, seducing another, hurting us, as a whole, again and again. How could you expect me to do just nothing? You've been sending a signal, to them and to us, that they can just pick members of this very house off the street and do with us what they want." You try to sit up properly to face him better, wincing from the pain shooting through your arm again. "How has this not been a war yet for fuck's sake? How come Snowman can take the god damn white queen hostage, but we sit idle when the Crew come to pick us apart bit by bit? How come Snowman can take the god damn white queen hostage, but we sit idle when the Crew come to pick us apart, bit by bit?"
Doc Scratch 6:17 PM
You sit in silence, letting him say what hes going to say. You dont blame him for his views, and if anything, this lashing out may prove beneficial to you. No matter what happens from now on, Droog will have the reminder in the back of his mind. Certainly he wont forget it. Idly, you pull at the edge of your gloves, nodding every so often through his heated speech. Well, hes partially right on certain fronts. It really should have been war by now, whether you wanted it to be or not. The crew have gotten bolder and bolder, could it be your fault? Through inaction, have you allowed the crew more purchase on this slippery slope than you'd intended? "To start off, I'll answer your question. The reason it has not been war yet is because we did not have the numbers to win a war." You let out a silent sigh. "In truth, I'd hoped to collect our full set before provoking the Crew into an all out battle. I dont know how many wars you've seen, Trace, but I've seen enough to know that as much as you and all the others may want to go to war, young men that you are, we are not in a favored position for it. The Crew will always have the love of the common people, they built this city, and those that reside here are their kin. They have the better defenses, and most importantly, they have magic. True magic, the likes of which I cant begin to match." You pause to stand, arms folded behind your back as you pace, speaking more to the open air than to Trace now.
"Snowman is an army in her own right, its folly to compare anything or anyone to her. This little brawl you've had with Diamonds, its beyond reason and a waste of resources besides. If you were provoked into action, then you're a fool, because thats what Diamonds wanted from you. But more than that, you've allowed him to take the higher ground. The city is going to bleed now, I'll see to that, but you've allowed Diamonds to make it personal. And a man on a revenge mission doesnt care for the ruin he causes. I did not take what I've taken of this city for the last fourty years just to see it burned by some self righteous bastard in an Armani tuxedo." Another sigh, louder this time. You rub your temple, pausing in your pacing to look back at him. "Provoking. Abusing. Hurting us. All of us. You're right on that front. What one of us suffers, we all suffer. It was my mistake. I took this for play, the usual violence between men at odds, petty revenge for the sake of sleeping better." “But no, this has gotten well and truly out of hand. And its too late to go back. You’ve signed us up for a a war we were not prepared for, against an enemy whose eyes you’ve spit in, and now you say it should have been sooner. Hmph. Maybe you’re right. I dont hear the heckling of those underneath me, but it would only make sense that you do. So, then, its to be war. Do you have any plans for this war you’ve longed for, Trace? Any soldiers for the army? Connections to supplies and trades? Or did you expect that all you had to do was start it, and that I would finish it?”
Trace 8:05 PM
Well, obviously, you don't have any of these. You didn't plan for a war, let alone prepare for it. This was a selfish and careless act of revenge and he knows that. You're slowly starting to realize that you feel more bewildered about Nepeta's reaction than the prospect of war. This life has already been hell and you're tired of playing along. How little you care about Scratch's achievements and goals. Still, that is not an answer to give your boss and, unfortunately, owner. You close your eyes and think. The least you owe the others is to try  And if you've doomed all of you to die and burn, maybe you can at least rip a big hole into the crew. "..How much longer is he gonna have the favor of the common people if he's burning them? If he lashes out without remose and care, use it against them. With fires burning purple, it's not hard to besmirch their name. You have sucked the people dry under threat of violence and torture if they don't pay up. If you lack manpower, offer then alternatives. The crew is torching Felt warehouses. If it's supplies we lack, take theirs. We may be lacking time to prepare, but so do they. It's not too late to gain the upper hand."
Doc Scratch 1:40 PM
You stand and listen as he rattles off his ideas. Theyre not all without merit, but theyre naive, blunt, though its something you've come to expect. How could he possibly have known what he was getting himself, and the rest of the Felt, into. "Hes not burning them, he's burning us. True, it was careless, but Droog wont stay careless. Hes distraught over his daughters death, but he wont stay that way forever. He has as at least as much of a tactical mind as I do, he was built for war." You run a hand over your head, eyes closed in thought, trying not to imagine plumes of purple smoke eating their way through the Felt manor. Purple and green clash too much, it would be hideous. "I have ways of retaking the people, though its not the dregs of society that I'm worried about. All  I need is a shiny coin and a loaf of bread to win their loyalty back. We need to spread out. We need bases of operation throughout the city, safe places that arent glaring green mansions on a hilltop. If the Crew want war, we have to play their game." Yes, this is sounding more like a plan every passing second. You almost get carried away, before remembering where you are. This is no time to get caught up in nostalgia. "You know, it would be much easier planning if we had our trackers back. You and Fin have skills that will be of paramount importance coming very soon. Yet, I hesitate to bring you into the fold. Why should I trust that you can stay your hand? That your loyalty to this organization will trump your lust for revenge? You've proven the exact opposite is the case. Give me a reason why I shouldn't just let you sit down here and rot until the war is over with."
Trace 7:47 PM
Hey, can't blame you for trying, considering your situation. The night in here didn't exactly allow you to do your homework. Neither does it help with the next question. You look at him, tired as you are, trying to muster up the energy to defend yourself. Can't say you're, heh, dying to prove your loyalty to him, but wasting away down here in this cell doesn't seem like a solution either. "I... can't live without this organization. And neither can those that I care about. I know that my actions didn't exactly show it, but I want to do what I can to help it succeed and keep us all safe where possible." You'd like to assure him that your thirst for revenge is well-quenched - and for now it is. But should anything happen to Nepeta and Fin in this war you've apparently summoned, things could get ugly really fast. You won't tell him that. He's probably well aware. You'd like to not have to come to that though. "You gave the reason yourself. We're good at what we can do, and without us, this is gonna be much harder to deal with. Sure, it's a risk for you, but I'd be the one out there, risking my neck. It's my blood they're after. I'm not expecting your trust. I'm sure if you send me out there again, you'll be keeping a close eye on me, until I'll maybe have proven myself someday. Not sure what else I can give you besides my word, and I don't think that's much worth to you right now."
Doc Scratch 1:35 PM
"Hmm, its true enough." You sit back down, leaning back as you think. If you were a lesser man, you might consider handing him over to the crew and suing for peace. That would only be a short term fix, though, and probably cause more problems than itd solve. Not to mention youre loathe to lose one piece of the set. "In truth, Trace, I dont blame you for your actions. Not fully. Droog brought his suffering upon himself. We're just lucky he was good enough to burn all the  evidence." "At the very least you'll be going back to work soon, though as far away from Fin as possible. Perhaps Crowbar can take up the handle of your keeper. I cant have a mad dog running around doling out a childs version of vigilante justice." "For now, though, youll enjoy these accommodations. Im just having your room prepared."
Trace 1:48 PM
You should probably feel relieved at that response, could have gone much worse, after all. But the feeling of anxiety and dread keeps lingering. "I guess that's only fair." You lean back as well, which sends another pain shooting through your arm. A quiet hiss escapes you. Cursed thing. "Before you leave.. with all due respect, not trying to tell you what to do, but I don't think you'd find having me lose my arm or my life to an infection practical..."
Doc Scratch 1:55 PM
You were aleady on your way out when he makes his request. Now you pause, and turn slightly. "Does it hurt? Good. Its supposed to. Someone will be down soon to tend to it. Think on your mistakes, and how you can do better in the future." With that, you take your leave, closing and locking the door behind you.

THE GREAT ND REWATCH OF 2021 / OCTOBER 5, 2019 // return of josh
oooookay folks! that's a wrap! below are my comments about tonight's ep + additional expansions on previously stated opinions. i'm not combining s2 ep 1 with this bc s2 is dead to me! so is s3! i only did this to gather up all these loose thoughts i had when this show with its one lonely season became such a comfort to me that i developed a second consciousness about it. but with these posts i am done! the evil is defeated! i will carry on through the 3rd and hopefully final season of nancy drew with less emotion and better spirits. thank god.
-"talk to owen" nancy firstly thinks of talking to owen only to see what happens w the agleaca; saying goodbye comes as sorta an afterthought mirroring tiffany's possession of george. yet nancy was unable to say goodbe to owen just like w kate. knowing this reveal about kate, i wonder if this was foreshadowing that something big will be revealed about him later? unlikely but still
-nancy + the reality of broken things: 'totems' like broken sand glass sculpture (good place) to show you it's not a dream; "owen broke that" ghost trap to ground him to reality, like how she reached for her locket in the good place, lucy's charm, ace's bear ('totems' idea borrowed from inception)
-george has never been an affectionate person, even with other women- so why does pda with nick suddenly become so important?
-lots of comments about ryan + women but what about carson/kate and karen? again with the hypocritical (interestingly, there is an aspect of violence to women connected with ryan (even though that violence is not his fault); but its not like kate or karen fared well either)
-ryan feels useless- relationships with women as stated by nancy- he seeks to redeem himself by showing up where nancy goes to prove he is good to have around/necessary/needed - but now that he is attempting to act as a parent he has to break through nancy's defenses all over again- firstly she didnt really consider him any kind of threat bc he comes off as incompetent- ie bad business deals- i think i mentioned last ep, their hauntings equalize them as they both attempt to gain peace by searching for answers but now ryan has changed the terms of engagement so he's back to square one, with carson. (which is how we find them s2 cowering in ryans car stalking nancy together)
-ryan's relationship to nancy exposes an interesting layer here. so far she doesnt know about nick/george but they still hold the cards (ie george gets one over on nick's ex/"the new girl") with the revelation of ryan being nancys father, nancy gains an interesting trump card in navigating the social fallout of being nick's ex. like george would take the new spot but then nancy comes out with george's ex in a much higher category. this plays out later on in the ep when george confronts ryan. george wants to talk about "them" but ryan shows up completely focused on nancy, thus illustrating the trump
-"i thought it was whitney with another insipid question" to me this sounds like whitney took bess's advice earlier about "asking aunt diana what she wants" (only to learn it actually annoyed the hell out of diana lmaoo)
-"then you need to fight for it" this hearkens nancy earlier by asking "arent you in by virtue of dna?" the test was positive; she is a marvin just like nancy is a hudson. thats not a fact that they can change. however, diana really acts like it can be changed- and in s2 we see it does change. its interesting for bess to be told to fight to be in a family she's already in and also foiled by nancy trying to fight her way out of her own family. would like to see bess stand up to diana and say something. i mean, she exists. as much as she may want to erase bess from the family, diana cannot erase her existence
-hannah's rolled up sleeves 💙
-"previous keepers records" -from s2- were those not her parents??
-mistaken murderers- everyone incorrectly assumes lucy was murdered just as they assume the agleaca killed owen
-even if owen weren't the price, how can they pay the toll without one of the people who called? i mean if it was anything other than owen and he still died they still wouldve been fucked
-"you don't need to check, i'm not even driving!" okay and giving up the goss. cassidy is me. lmfaoooo
-wonder if this locked marvin industries box will ever come back
-UNPOPULAR OPINION: george's confrontation with ryan comes waytoo late to do anything. i think i brought this up in an earlier post. its literally just her screaming at him now. like he is clocked out moved on. you know a good time for this scene? in the claw when he comes by to "check on her". hes vulnerable, fresh from rehab. and she has a chit over him for punching bookcases/the fuckin country club deal. therewould have been a perfect time to confront ryan on what happened- "what you did to me" okay sis. you admitted ep 1 you werent in hs anymore. youre of age now. admit you fucked up. take the L to force him to swallow the bigger L. and imagine how much more powerful the scene would have been- in george's domain, literally her own office, something ryan doesnt even have because HE DOESNT DO SHIT. ryan is SO EASY to trap but nobody notices. instead they have george try to get some kind of apology out of him when hes already done with that, and only for the sake of her establishing a new relaionship to boot. imagine how much more empowered she would feel if she just got that closure for herself- because she needed it, not so she could trot straight back to nick being all proud of calling a grown man to some random estate only to scream at him in a parking lot and have accomplished nothing. 🤦🏼‍♀️
-i get patrice thinking nancy is lucy but yeahhhhh this isnt how dementia works 😬
-i almost cant with nance and josh. how do you save your would-be murderer? (+ lucy's best friend and brother are in jail, her mom is lost to her mentally; all she has left is nancy and ryan)
-tbh i had no idea how to spell agleaca until bess said "theres no i in agleaca!" i thought it was igleaka like 😂
-damn how george just stares at nicks hand and then gets out herself is just so sad (like she immediately rectifies it but still...)
-"curiosity" part II; nancy who comes back to the sea after her mother died in it- agleaca drawn to lucy's trauma/to agleaca, lucy died fir "love"- would nancy be willing to risk the same? // this is also one of nancy's "mirroring mom" moments: winning sea queen, going to the velvet masque, getting caught by celia, having a "chat" with everett, and "falling" off the bluffs
-the collector 🎵👌🏻
-i wonder if there's any significance to the locations/means of their deaths; nancy's is pretty straight forward in terms of where and how, but why george and nick drowning, in the truck specifically? drowning in love? idk. ace's at the claw i get, but he gets himself caught? in what precisely? what does the fish hook mean? and bess's makes the least sense- burning alive? in the marvin estate? maybe the agleaca picked the most painful death for the marvin blood relation? idk. up for debate lmk ya thoughts
and lastly:
-i remember seeing this ending for the first time and i had just been traumatized by avengers endgame and since black widow is also a redhead seeing that shit at the bottom of the cliff it was like 😰😰😰 TOO SOON
-random thoughts-
these are just things i noticed, feel free to grapple with them or take note of them for extrapolation in s3 (lord knows i wont be) they probably belonged in recaps for previous eps but i either didnt find them in my notebook or couldnt fit them in
•nancy and truth/the perception of truth: using facts to suit theories instead of creating theories to suit facts- nancy often plays with the perception of truth and the details that fall between the steps; but she is also a victim to them by people who also know how to play the game (ie Carson) ex lying about the dress (tea cups and knives, trash got picked up, bail paid 1 hr ago) her inferences can be off from what others tell her ("people always lie") but she can also come to the wrong conclusions organically (carsons trial) more willing to believe the best in others/wanting them to be innocent (think nick ep 1) but later finding out the truths hurts more so she chooses to isolate herself and avoid involving others to be spared pain
•maybe i'm dumb, but who is "mr marvin" exactly? owen? the bald guy from the funeral? this comes from the guy who takes sailboats out like ep 4ish and says "ive worked for the marvins 20 years" she compliments the ship, he says "mr marvin and i just took her out this morning" so?? who is that? plus last ep just saying cassidy and isaac are her "late husbands children" dows thet mean sebastian? like did diana marry in? i feel like it would be odd for her to so embrace the "marvin way" if she wasnt a true born marvin
•ik college becomes a more s2 topic but none of the crew have ever been to college 🤔
•nick + the relationships with people whose reputations are tarnished: tiffany with investigating the hudsons/marvins, josh with murder/attempted murder, kate and 'stealing'/lying about nancy (esp compared to her almost preternatural kindness i mentioned before), george and her mom/family's reputations --> this kind of segues into nick + the concept of believing people you love could be capable of horrific things- accidental or on purpose (see- having to tell his family what happened)
•at the beginning, nancy kind of seems to be the "i'm sorry you're upset" kind of apologist and knows it. she also doesnt usually apologize earnestly bc shes never really sorry (she always has to get what she needs first ie coins mess) and she doesnt want to lie; to me it seems she doesnt like to bother with other people bc they require certain cues/niceties that are often lies- they ask "how are you" without meaning it, they dont really want an honest response except "fine", they dont like it when you call them out on fakeness, etc/ they require apologies for their bruised feelings even if youre right (and nancy can be pretty rude/nasty if provoked- a harshness unsoftened by sympathy)
•cont'd from the good place ep- since kate apparently means nothing to nancy anymore according to last ep ("stop calling her my mother") is her policy of "always seek the truth" now null and void? this mantra is now tainted bc the person who gave it to her broke it so much. can nancy disengage w it now? does she fall from grace to be complicit in "mysteries" of her own like everyone else? does she lose some of her "god-like" holier than thou act bc she is now literally born and raised in the "darkness" of sins/ugly truths like everyone else's? (ie truth is ugly but not to nancy, until now)
•did lucy disappear because her "murder" was finally solved? or simply because her trauma was addressed- she never meant to tell anyone about her suicide plans, the twisted trauma of which was too great to contain/unable to move on due to "sin" - or unable to move on because secret of nancy's parentage still remained? "lucy never wanted me to figure out how she died" she only wanted nancy to figure out her parentage without solving the mystery, yet did lucy see/witness nancy's revelation at the claw, or with carson, or even ryan? waiting for karen/josh to know? or just vanished?
•concept of imperfect mom figures- lucy, kate, celia, victoria, even karen- who all struggle with failings
•since karen dispelled one of lucy's attempts at nancy's haunting at the garden party, is that proof she isn't haunting karen?
•the crew + needing adult help: george's possession and victoria, club busted and owen, car accident and mcginnis, thom and cipher, larkspur lane and sal, bones and john, agleaca and hannah
•everett is always sitting- at his home office, at dinner, at yacht club (wonder if that was his actor + had to do with his recasting?)
-dad talk-
•both her dads think negatively on her "girl detective" thing but ryan sees use in it as a means to get answers, carson would never 'use' her in that way
•nancy + carson : suffering
"what about what i wanted?" + carson being imprisoned for weeks but she immediately rejects him (the DAY he gets his freedom no less) with no regard to his suffering (caused by herdiary!!) in regards to her own from this new knowledge (she does suffer a lot- "almost dying is my new normal" but still)/ the "thankless job" of parenting
•nancy + adults - connected to cop thing a few posts earlier : nancy is v precocious and smart for her age- she is "old enough" but also has trouble with the "adults" in her life- fathers, moms, karen, and cops letting her down but depends heavily on "adults" she cantrust- hannah gruen, john sander, lisbeth- highlighting her youth and occasional naiveté; nancy is unafraid to hold adults accountable for their actions (ie karen) but also loses them as allies along the way. both hannah and john are very nonthreatening and also experts in their fields, while her fathers and karen are revealed to be "just another brick in the wall" average, capable of mistakes, and not the people she expects them to be, while characters like john and hannah can only benefit nancy because either they do not mean as much to her or have no reason/nothing to gain by lying; they are purposefully shown to be small, demure, gentle, and nonthreatening as foils/opposed to karen, ryan, and josh whom she previously trusted; carson (+kate) is nonviolent as well but has the biggest betrayal which is perceived as an act of violence to her very personhood/shattering who she thought she was so she cannot be that anymore (admits truths to john "everytime i dig i hurt everyone" and hannah-agleaca) : unclear if redemption is possible for anyone :
•nancy bonds with carson over loss and then ryan over haunting. but actually, nancy rejects carson over loss bc she wanted to say goodbye and wasnt allowed to- so carson was with kate but nancy was not. nancy and ryan are more equals about haunting bc they both start around the same time and conclude together as well [nancy and ryan bond over thinking their parents conspired to kill lucy- think sitting on the floor at velvet masque] nancy is appreciated by ryan for her ability to get answers- he has no qualms about going through her/outside of police bc he wants results/instant gratification and thinks nancy is more so the expert in her field/respects her even through her age- once again acknowledging she is braver than he is (think lucy + claw parking lot) and her portent in the car freaks him out bc shes usually always in control, esp with him
•bc nancy was told "you can't be afraid of the truth" until she was / ironic bc shes braver than him except when the truth is they are related then she's scared to tell him while he actually starts to take some initiative
•nancy picked "the wrong person" to help her through her grief in her dad's eyes like her mom's best friend was somehow a better choice? carson truly "parents" nancy even during grief and haunting (which she rejects) whereas nancy and ryan are really equals in all their situations which is actually better for her and easier for her to maintain- nancy's expectations are low so anything that ryan gives is a bonus. nancy's expectations of carson were shattered by his lies so now she has nothing to connect with him about- they could barely even connect when sharing the same grief- carson actually very hypocritical hence nancy's upset at karen revelation yet carson doesn't agree bc hes the "adult" and shes the "child" not realizing she hadnt been one for a long time (hidden staircase perhaps?) whereas ryan better treats her with lack of controlling parental nature bc he is impressed with her competence before he receives that knowledge; "lucy was smarter than me too" acknowledging her intellect negates his ability to "parent" ie control her to leave him solely with caring about her wellbeing in her situations + aftermath - i honestly dont think carson would ever admit that shes smarter than him* bc he thinks shes not "all grown up" yet ("youve kept me on the bench for years"); ryan is more willing to meet her where she's at which is so important for all her good relationships - ace, owen, etc
*carson asks for nancy to figure out "who to trust" in ep 12, finally admitting that she is useful/ie acknowledging that her skills/abilities do help, are necessary, and can in fact save lives --> this is then s2 follow up by working for him (but it takes him that long)
•ryan/nancy/carson venn diagram - using sex to escape trauma
•if not carson vs ryan then what about celia and everett vs patrice (and josh)? at this point in the narrative, do you think ryan's parents would take his side should the knowledge become public (without their involvement), or deny nancy?
•"we were a family" + the disruption of family dinner- kate was really the one holding that family together and her death makes it unsustainable
okay!! that's all folks! i have exhausted my plethora of nancy drew thoughts + knowledge. you will never have to hear from me again!! TYSSM 😘

Chapter 7: Literary Device Kingdoms
-- turntechGodhead [TG] began pestering tentacleTherapist [TT] --
TG: roooooooose TG: rose TG: rose TG: are you there
TT: Yes, Dave, I am here. TT: And it seems like you have adapted John’s penchant for using eight letters at a time for emphasis on various words.
TG: what really TG: goddamn it
TT: Yes, this appears to be a despicable habit that we must rid you of.
TG: please do TG: i dont want a total of eight letters exactly all the time to haunt me for the rest of my life TG: but that isnt what i came here to talk about
TT: Did you perhaps pester me to inform me of your previous conversation with Karkat?
TG: hell yeah i did
TT: I only assumed because that is what you were bugging me about previously.
TG: that is a pretty good assumption to make TG: anyway the conversation i had with karkat was really nice TG: hes a lot shoutier over text than voice TG: he types in all caps like holy shit TG: so angry TG: does some long ass metaphors TG: im still the best at them but karkat may be shooting for my place on the throne TG: make a note to watch out for that
TT: It has been noted.
TG: thank you for that rose TG: best goddamned advisor i ever had TG: i trust you completely TG: wow i sound like one of those kings that trust their shitty and evil advisor without a single thought that their advisor could potentially want to overthrow them TG: are you going to take over my kingdom rose
TT: I have no interest in ruling the Kingdom of Metaphors. TT: I am perfectly happy here in my “Palace of Prose.”
TG: thank fucking god TG: i dont think i could handle a rebellion TG: shits dangerous you know TG: do each of us get a literary device kingdom TG: if i have the kingdom of metaphors and you get the palace of prose TG: which is an awesome name btw TG: like is john the king of hyperbole TG: or jade the queen of personification TG: do they get kingdoms TG: are they opposing kingdoms TG: or are they all good friends and shit TG: does every single literary device get a kingdom or is only major ones TG: these are important questions here rose
TT: I’m not sure if John would be suited to the role of ruling over the hyperbole commonwealth. TT: I’m certain he would need to have some sort of training first. TT: He would need to become the heir to the kingdom. TT: Or he should rule over some other literary device.
TG: that makes me wonder what literary device he would rule over TG: hold up let me pull up a list TG: holy shit there are a lot of literary devices TG: i dont know what half this stuff is TG: shit ton of different types of irony TG: what the fuck is a zeugma
TT: A zeugma is a literary device that is both literal and metaphorical. TT: For example, “they covered themselves in dust and glory.”
TG: thats actually pretty cool
TT: Quite.
TG: what were we even talking about before all this literary device nonsense.
TT: I believe you were talking about the conversation you shared with Karkat.
TG: oh yeah TG: but yeah hes super long winded and his metaphors are actual works of art TG: he was actually the guy who wrote the top quality hate mail i received
TT: Really?
TG: yeah really isnt that fucking fantastic TG: you wouldnt have expected it if you were just talking to him in real life TG: but over messaging holy shit TG: absolutely glorious TG: he should really do something with that talent TG: write a fucking novel or some shit
TT: I would never have expected Karkat to be so…
TG: angry TG: long winded TG: creative with his words
TT: Yes. TT: He always seems so nice and professional. TT: Then again, I’ve only ever seen him at work, so I suppose I don’t exactly have the most accurate idea of what his personality is actually like.
TG: you also just spend your time flirting with kanaya
TT: The flirting is consensual.
TG: what are you two dating now
TT: Yes, actually.
TG: holy shit TG: did you go on a date TG: is that why you couldnt respond to my message TG: i need a brief overview of what happened stat
TT: Nothing much, really. TT: All we did was go out to lunch and walk around the park for a little while. TT: It was nice.
TG: that sounds like a fantastic date TG: very casual like a first date should be
TT: Agreed.
TG: anyway how are you doing TG: done anything interesting lately TG: something other than writing your book TG: which one are you on anyway TG: like the fifth or something or other TG: you just have a large fucking amount of books that you have written TG: and you go into these modes where you dont talk to anyone unless its the cashier at the grocery store
TT: I require food to survive, Dave. TT: But, yes, I have done something interesting lately. TT: Instead of writing a book, I opted for reading something.
TG: what really TG: what are you reading TG: actually i dont think i want to know TG: knowing you its probably something weird with a shit ton of monsters and stuff TG: not really something im interested in
TT: It's actually a novel that Kanaya recommended to me. TT: It's very interesting.
TG: well i guess if its not about monsters eating each other or a huge ass monster talking above a whisper that murders everyone its fine TG: lay it on me
TT: It's actually a series of books. TT: I'm only on the first one so far, but it holds a certain amount of charm to it.
TG: well youre going to have to do more than just tell me that the book has a certain kind of charm TG: you might want to actually tell me about the book
TT: Well, it's about a young girl who is being sent to finishing school by her family in order to become a lady. TT: However, the finishing school she is being sent to is not a normal finishing school. TT: It teaches a finishing of a different kind. TT: That is to say, it teaches young ladies to assassinate people as well as gather information.
TG: holy shit TG: that was not the direction i was expecting that to go
TT: I would recommend the book series to you. TT: You often like stories with a steampunk theme to them, and Kanaya stated that Etiquette and Espionage is a must read book for all those who love the steampunk genre.
TG: i do have to say TG: i am a little bit interested in reading the book TG: i might just go to the bookstore and buy it
TT: I knew you would be curious about it.
TG: yeah well im interested because you said there was a steampunk theme to it TG: but why were you interested in it TG: you typically go for the lovecraftian horror stories TG: god those are so fucking creepy TG: i have no earthly clue why you enjoy reading them so much TG: i personally cant stand reading those TG: ignore my tangent and answer my question instead
TT: I don't know, Dave. TT: Your tangents are awfully fun to analyze.
TG: goddamn it rose TG: youre an author not a fucking therapist TG: regardless of what your chumhandle says TG: anyway i know kanaya recommended it to you but what actually made you interested in the book
TT: I have always had a certain interest in fashion and such, particularly Victorian fashion. TT: I also enjoy the humor in the novel. TT: It is very deadpan, and it is enjoyable to read that someone wants to murder their first husband in a casual tone. TT: Don't worry though, Dave. TT: The only murder that occurs is in the last book, and the deaths are of minor characters. TT: Kanaya assured me this was such. TT: However, she did mention that there were some graphic descriptions of violence, particularly in the ending part of the last book. TT: If you don't feel comfortable with that, you don't have to read the novels.
TG: nah TG: i think i should be more or less ok TG: if i feel like i cant handle reading some part of it i can always go to you or kanaya to find out what actually happened in that part TG: but of course you read it because of people possibly murdering their future husbands TG: do you know why kanaya really liked the series
TT: Apparently, she has an interest in vampires and rainbow drinkers. TT: So there is a supernatural aspect to the book.
TG: so are there werewolves and shit as well
TT: Yes, there are.
TG: sweet TG: i probably need to get out of the house anyway TG: it will give me an excuse to stretch my legs and such
TT: Do you really require an excuse to do that?
TG: yes
TT: Well, don’t let me stop you.
TG: alright TG: ill be taking my leave
-- turntechGodhead [TG] ceased pestering tentacletherapist [TT] --
Now, before you leave to go to the bookstore, you needed to do one more thing.
-- turntechGodhead [TG] began pestering ectoBiologist [EB] --
TG: john TG: john TG: i have a very important question for you
EB: lay it on me.
TG: what literary device kingdom would you rule
EB: that’s a really weird question, dave. EB: i think you might have to elaborate a little.
TG: so rose and i were talking TG: and we decided that I was the king of metaphors TG: we later decided that she was the queen of prose TG: which of course begged the question TG: what the fuck would you be
EB: i don’t think i want to rule an imaginary literary device kingdom! EB: it seems like a lot of responsibility.
TG: of course its a lot of goddamned responsibility TG: youre ruling a kingdom here TG: a hypothetical kingdom sure TG: but a kingdom nonetheless TG: youve got to take care of all the little people residing in your kingdom TG: but youre basically supposed to chose the literary device that you utilize the most often
EB: i can’t recall using many literary devices! EB: i think i would probably end up being the subject of one of the kingdoms.
TG: thats fair
EB: what about jade? EB: have you asked her?
TG: no but she probably rules over personification or something like that TG: you were more of a mystery
EB: i guess i’m just going to have to think about it.
TG: ill just be waiting over here for you answer TG: because this lack of information is clearly what is keeping me up at night TG: well i wont be actually waiting TG: that would just be creepy as fuck TG: ill just occasionally check pesterchum to see if you have come up with an answer yet TG: be sure to pester me when you do alright
EB: i’ll be sure to do that, dave.
TG: thanks bro TG: anyway im going to the bookstore to get a book rose recommended TG: for once it was not about horrorterrers TG: see ya later john
-- turntechGodhead [TG] ceased pestering ectoBiologist [EB] --
Your curiosity had yet to be sated. You were still curious as to what literary device kingdom John would rule. This was of course purely hypothetical, but it was still something very important that you needed to know as soon as possible.
Anyway, you decided that now would be a good time as any to make your way to the bookstore. Since it was literally right down the street, you didn't actually bother going into your car and driving there. That would be pointless and stupid because then you would have to find a parking space and pay for parking and that was entirely too much work to go get a book from a bookstore that was so close to your house.
When you got to the bookstore, you started out be looking around to see if you could find the book anywhere. It occurs to you that Rose never actually told you who the author was. She only told you the name of the book, which was fine, but it would have been very helpful to actually obtain the name of the person who wrote it as well.
You also didn't know all that much about the book save for a few basic things. And like hell are you actually going to ask someone for assistance to find the book. However, Rose did give you the title of the book, which is occasionally good enough.
As you wandered through the store, you ended up being surprised at a familiar face.
Oh god. It was Karkat. And yeah, the two of you talked pretty casually over Pesterchum and Trollian respectively, but you don't really think you could handle an actual interaction with him in person again. It was too soon, and you hadn't exactly had the time to recover from the previous in person interaction you had with him.
Oh no. He just saw you.
"Oh. Dave." Karkat greeted. "This is certainly a surprise."
"Oh, yeah, hi. I mean, hello. Yo? Actually, nevermind. I guess I really did mean hi. So, hi there Karkat. How have you been doing? The store treating you well? Asshole customers not keeping you up at night are they? And, wow, you are still cute. And I'm still rambling on like I'm not able to breathe if I don't talk. Not that I can't breathe if I don't talk, but with the amount of shit coming out of my mouth, I really wouldn't be surprised at this point.Sorry, I'm not very good at talking to people in real life."
"You're not very good at talking to them over text. Whatever delusion you created to make yourself think that you are anything less than a huge fucking dork is completely and utterly false, and at this point in time, you really just should accept that you aren't that good at the social aspect of life." Karkat said.
"Karkat, I'm hurt. You of all people should know how cool of a person I am."
Karkat looked around bewildered for a moment.
"A cool person? I don't see anyone like that. All I see is some dork who wears shades indoors to look cool."
"Harsh, but I do actually wear the shades inside for a legitimate reason. My eyes are super sensitive to light, so if I ever took them off, I'm pretty sure I would go blind."
"They seem like that would be extraordinarily uncomfortable to wear while sleeping. I hope to whatever god you believe in that you don't go blind if you remove them in total darkness."
"Yeah, it's fine if I take them off when there is a low amount of light, but I don't like taking them off that often. Not only do they look super cool and protect me from the evil sunlight, they were a gift from my best bro."
"So, sunlight is evil now?" Karkat asked.
"What? No. Sunlight isn't evil now. It has always been evil. It's just been watching over us like the fucking malevolent god it is."
"I don't think the sun can be considered a god. First of all, there are stars that are way bigger than our sun and a whole lot hotter as well. Second of all, the sun is probably going to die in a couple billion years, so we have that to look forward to."
"I can't wait until the evil that the sun is gets defeated."
"Well, it's not going to be in our short ass lifetimes. I can assure you of that."
"Damn it. And here I was, looking forward to the destruction of the sun."
"Well, I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. Unless someone makes a video or a video game where the sun blows up. I don't know." Karkat furrowed his brows. "Maybe then you can live out the fantasy of the sun blowing up? I mean, it would be better than nothing, right?"
"Fair enough. Anyway, what are you getting here at the bookstore?" You questioned.
"Well, I was trying to find a new book to read, but I can't really find anything that I haven't read yet that is in the genre I enjoy."
"You're looking for a romance book, right? Terezi said you liked romcoms and cheesy stuff like that, which is honestly kind of adorable, and please just forget I said that last part. It didn't exist. It was never said. Anyway, you clearly must read a lot to not be able to find something that you haven't read."
"I don't know what I should respond to in that sentence. It all sounded like a huge pile of feces that just won't stop coming out. Except the pile of feces is coming out of your mouth instead of your asshole."
"Maybe you should answer the part where I commented on the amount of reading you do because that is super impressive, and it isn't a creepy compliment like suddenly telling you that you are cute is." You explained.
"Ignoring the fact that you called me cute on multiple occasions, I thank you for your acknowledgment of my prowess in reading a various amount of novels."
"You're welcome. Anyway, if you are having trouble finding something to read, you could always try out a different genre, I guess. I mean, I'm pretty sure there are plenty of action books and stuff that you haven't had the pleasure of reading yet."
"I do still prefer romance novels." Karkat said. "What kind of books do you like to read? Or, I guess, more specifically, what book are you planning on getting here? Or are you just browsing?"
"Rose recommended a book series to me, but I am having a bit of trouble finding it. The first book is called Etiquette and Espionage. Have you heard of it?"
Karkat scoffed.
"Of course I've heard of it! I hear about every book with rainbow drinkers that my moirail can get her hands on! However, it was an amazing series with a properly done romance."
"There's romance in it?"
Karkat looked at you in silence for a few moments before taking a deep breath.
"Yes and a very well done romance at that. Scratch that. There are multiple romances throughout the books. Of course, you have the obligatory red romance triangle that the protagonist ends up getting herself in, but it was obvious from the beginning who she would end up with, speaking as one of her redrom interests she was, at the most, black for, even if there was a bit of red/black vacillating. However, the romantic interests are intriguing due to the sheer difference in blood color. You see, the main character is an olive blood and the two who are trying to court her are a rust blood and a seadweller respectively. Which, of course, puts her in the position of trying to choose between one far above and far below her station in society. She was already testing that, being an olive blood going to a highblood school. In addition, her redrom interests are black as hell for each other, often fighting, and it's done so subtly, and that particular romance was very interesting to read about, even if it was kind of a minor romance in the book. In addition to the redrom interests, she actually gets a moirail, and that romance is adorable as hell, and it is honestly so sweet. She also gets a blackrom interest that she never actually acts on due to that interest being someone she considers an actual enemy."
Karkat looked at you in astonishment for a moment.
"Wow. That was probably one of the first times someone has let me go on for that long about romance without telling me to shut the fuck up."
"Why the hell would I tell you to shut up?" You ask. "You're clearly passionate about it, so I see no reason to shoot down that enthusiasm."
"I, uh. Wow." Karkat just kind of stared at you, and you were beginning to start feeling pretty awkward.
So, of course, you did the only thing you could really actually do.
"Yeah, it would be really shitty of me to just fucking tell you to shut up about something you clearly enjoy talking about. Anyway, it is always super nice just to hear people talk about something they love, and it's just kind of sad when people are sorry for enjoying those sorts of things when really it shouldn't be embarrassing at all. If it's something you love, you should embrace it. It's kind of dumb that people just shoot you down like that, bro. Especially since it was really nice to see you light up like that, and oh my god, please just shut me up."
Karkat started laughing. This was the second time you had gone on a long-winded spiel that he laughed at. It was honestly pretty adorable.
"I guess you're right. Hey, you're having trouble finding Etiquette and Espionage, right? Maybe I could help you find it." Karkat suggested.
"That would be fucking fantastic. Please, show me the way to the elusive novel."
"Right this way."
You followed Karkat to an area you must have looked through ten thousand times, and he just pulled a book off the shelf and handed it to you.
"There you go."
"Holy shit. The cover is pink. Pink is such a nice color, you know? It's all happy and nice and shit, and I really should consider getting some pink into my wardrobe now that I think about it. What do you think, Karkat? Would pink fit my complexion well enough?"
"Probably. You wear red well enough, so you should be able to pull off pink really well."
"Really? Well, maybe you could go out with me to help me pick something out. Usually, I would go with my sister, but she's not very good at picking things out that I actually like, and she doesn't typically like the things that I pick out. Also, it's kind of difficult to shop for yourself, you know? Who knows? Maybe I could help you pick out something new as well. It's always nice to find things that you wouldn't usually pick out for yourself, but then you find out you really enjoy it, you know?"
"That's an odd request, but I don't really see why not."
"So you don't mind helping me out with finding a fun outfit?"
"Not at all. It would probably be fun, especially if we are helping out one another."
"Great. You can bring a friend if you want. You know, if you're uncomfortable with hanging out with me for alone for an extended period of time. It's perfectly fine." You said.
"I think I'll actually take you up on that offer. I have a friend who has been pestering me about getting a new outfit for a potential date he's going to have, and it would be fantastic if I had some extra help. He's a complete mess, and I don't know if he can tell his shoes from his cape."
"Clearly he's a fashion disaster, and we're going to have to fix it. However, I'm warning you now, I am also a fashion disaster."
Karkat looked you up and down, and your throat felt dry.
"I think I can deal with you. You're not nearly as much of a fashion disaster as you may think you are."
"Thanks for the confidence booster. Anyway, when and where do you want to meet for the shopping spree? Unless you want to go over the details over Pesterchum."
"We're already here and planning it. Might as well do it now. I'm free this Saturday. So, maybe we could meet up at noon at some restaurant for lunch and then go to the mall to shop for clothes."
"That sounds fucking fantastic. What restaurant though?"
"I could probably find some place nearby the mall to go to that isn't complete fucking shit. I'll have to ask my friend to see if he's good with that time. He probably will be though. He is almost always free. But, on the off chance that he is not, I can always message you over Trollian, but I’ll have to do that anyway to tell you the exact location and time to meet up.”
"It sounds like a plan." You stated. "Anyway, I'm going to pay for this book, and I'm hopefully going to read it at some point in time instead of just allowing it to rest upon my shelf for the rest of eternity. Mark my works. It will be read."
"Good luck with that." Karkat laughed. "But seriously, I do hope you manage to finish it. It will give us something to talk about on the outing."
"I thought we were going to talk about what kind of clothes we want to try out."
"That's actually a pretty good idea. Just let me jot that down." Karkat pretended to write something down on an imaginary notepad. "There we go. If you have any other ideas, be sure to submit them to my website so that I can fully analyze the shit out of them."
"Will do." You suddenly remembered something very important. "Also, I just remembered I need to ask you what literary device kingdom you would rule."
Karkat looked at you like you had just eaten a lemon whole, rind and all.
"What the fuck kind of question is that?"
"An important one. Come on, please answer it. I don't actually have all day, like some may believe."
"Dave, we just spend a good half hour to an hour standing here and talking to each other."
"Shit, really? Never would have guessed that much time had passed. I still would like an answer though."
"I'll think about it. I'll even message you so you can sate your burning curiosity as soon as I figure it out."
"I'll hold you to that." You said, and you finger-gunned at him. "Anyway, I should be off and actually buying this book and possibly reading it at some point in the hopefully near future."
"You do that." Karkat said.
You left kind of awkwardly. And by that, you meant you totally left in the coolest way possible. Yes. Definitely. Didn't even trip or anything. Okay. So maybe you stumbled a bit, but it's whatever, right? You were still kind of cool, and your dignity was definitely left intact.
You go up to the counter and buy your book and then make your way home. You check Pesterchum to see if John has given you an answer yet. None. Absolutely none. What blasphemy. Well, you can always pester someone else about it.

TG: jade i have a very important question for you to answer TG: it is imperative that you answer this message as soon as possible TG: shits super important TG: like the world will be destroyed by a whole bunch of meteors if you dont answer this question TG: it will be fucking catastrophic for everyone involved TG: and everyone involved will just be everyone in the world TG: possibly the universe too who really knows
GG: dave
TG: what
GG: just ask me the question already!!!!
TG: oh yeah right TG: okay ill lay it on you TG: if you were the ruler of a theoretical literary device kingdom, what literary device would you be the ruler of
GG: that question is super weird :/ GG: but i guess i would rule personification??? GG: i havent really thought about it really GG: its kind of super oddly specific too
TG: maybe a little bit TG: but i knew you would rule over personification TG: john is still trying to decide what literary device kingdom he would rule over
GG: oh! GG: maybe he could rule over the hero kingdom!!
TG: is hero a literary device
GG: i think it might be more of a character arc than a literary device but this sight seems to count it as one
TG: ok i guess thats fair
GG: im going to keep looking through these literary devices GG: some of them are kind of funny!! GG: like this one called non sequitur
TG: what the fuck is that
GG: according to the site its a statement that doesnt really make any sense or have any sound logic GG: like saying that if all humans have bones and crocodiles have bones GG: then crocodiles must be humans
TG: what the fuck is that logic
GG: its called non sequitur for a reason!
TG: sounds like something you would find straight off of tumblr TG: hot off the press and ready to consume
GG: that metaphor didnt really make any sort of sense dave
TG: when do my metaphors ever make sense jade
GG: … GG: :/
TG: exactly
GG: i found a literary device that might fit john!
TG: what is it
GG: its called a parrhesia GG: which is basically a fancy way of saying freedom of speech GG: like saying what you mean and stuff like that
TG: sounds perfect TG: i will be sure to inform john of this development TG: pester me if you need anything alright
GG: ok! GG: :)
TG: … TG: 8)

Regardless of what the mainstream media and others on the left say, those of us who consider ourselves conservatives aren’t racists. Race just isn’t an issue to us. We look at people to see how competent they are, not the color of their skin.
Of course, that doesn’t stop progressives from calling us racist, as one of their mantras.
Barack Obama and his buddy Al Sharpton wore out the race card during the last eight years, publicly declaring everything from the names of sports teams to the kinds of foods served in school cafeterias racist, regardless of the motivations of the people behind those things. In this, they showed their own racism to the entire world.
Just to be clear, let’s define racism. Merriam-Webster, the gold standard for defining the English language, says:
“A belief that race is the primary determination of human traits and capabilities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.”
Based on this, it’s clear that to be racist, one must be focused on race, rather than ability. In fact, it says that race determines ability, an idea that is totally foreign to conservative thinking.
It is also an idea that has no founding in fact, considering that we’ve seen people of every ethnic background rise to the tops of their professional fields. This hasn’t been based on “affirmative action” but rather on their ability.
Progressives have used the cry of racism to make America look bad, calling us out as a country for our racism. They conveniently forget that we were one of the first countries to abolish slavery in any form, going to war over it. They also ignore the huge strides that we as a country have made towards eliminating racism on a social level.
While there is no way we can say racism has been eliminated in our country, it is nowhere near what it was during the time of Martin Luther King Jr.
The Wrong Perception that Hurts
But conservatives face a new enemy in the fight against being called racist. From what they say about themselves, the alt-right has racism at its core. This faction consists of a number of white supremacy groups, such as the KKK. While a fringe group, they have become more vocal in recent times.
The real danger to us is to identify the alt-left as being mainstream conservatism. In other words, you and I are part of the alt-right, not part of mainstream America. According to this logic, it was the alt-right who voted Donald Trump into office, so anyone who voted for him is part of the alt-right. This circular argument allows them to label us all as racist.
Granted, it takes some convoluted logic and ignorance of the facts to do that, but those are strengths of the left. They have no problem with them at all. As long as it fits their narrative, it must be true and anything that doesn’t fit their narrative must be false.
This has all suddenly come much more to light, due to the recent attack in Charlottesville, Virginia. A group of alt-right white supremists held a protest march against the removal of historic statues, one of the progressive liberal campaigns of today. This protest, which started off peaceful, was met by a counter-protest, which apparently took umbrage at the white supremists having a public event.
Information about exactly who was part of the counter-protest is still sketchy, but so far the Latin American Coalition, Anarchists and members of the Occupy group have been named.
Unsurprisingly, the two groups clashed and that clash turned violent. Both sides claimed that the other started the violence, citing the use of pepper spray, lighter fluid and clubs. The truth may never be known. Even so, both sides did their fair share of violence to the other, with a number of people being seriously injured.
Video first seen on Trending World.
It just got worse from there. James Alex Fields Jr., drove his car into the crowd, killing one woman and injuring 19 others. The mainstream media is calling him a neo-nazi, which would put him clearly in the camp of the alt-right. The interesting thing is that the information that has been dug up about him, fits the profile of the various mass killers who have plagued the country in recent years.
Let me say here that I condemn his actions, as do any conservatives I know. Murder is still murder, regardless of who is committing it or for what reason. He should face the full force that the law can bring down on him.
Likewise, those who committed other acts of violence were wrong and should be charged, unless they were merely acting in self-defense. They too should be punished, regardless of what side they were on, although their punishment should not be as severe, as their crime wasn’t.
But this brings up the question of how we should react to such situations. How do we keep ourselves from being embroiled in such things?
The answer to the first question is to condemn it, regardless of the perpetrators, like I just did. The idea that one group should have a license to practice violence, just because of who they are, is wrong.
Violent protest is violent protest. No grievance justifies it.
The idea that the left has propagated, where some groups, such as Black Lives Matter, have a right to violent protest as part of their First Amendment rights, is false. The First Amendment gives us the right to peaceful protest, nothing more.
In other words, the alt-right march was legal, up until violence broke out. As much as I personally don’t like the idea of people marching with torches, because it conjures up images of the KKK lynching people, they had a right to do it.
Likewise, the neo-nazis had a right to use their flag, even though 6 million of my relatives were killed under that banner. As a conservative, I will fight for their rights to free expression, just as long as they don’t hurt anyone.
However, while I will fight for their right, I won’t take part in their fight. Not only do I not agree with their white supremist views, I don’t want to become embroiled in their mess. The best protection you and I have, is to stay away.
With the state of the country the way it is, and the massive political divide that we currently have, any public political protest is likely to end in violent confrontation. While many have skirted around that, without open conflict, the risk is just too high. It is not wise to participate in potentially inflammatory situations, just to make a political statement.
That’s not to say that we should be quiet. We should make our voice be heard. That is our right and no amount of political correctness or other form of censorship should stop it.
So while I would not personally put myself in the position of being part of those acts, neither would I back down from saying what I believe. The balance between the two can be tricky to uphold.
Let me put it this way. If I was invited to speak at a college campus, I would go, even if there were going to be protesters. But I would do everything I could to avoid those protesters, entering in through a back door, if I could. I would be there to exercise my First Amendment rights of freedom of expression, not there to take on the world in a fist fight. If any violence were to take place, I would not be the one to start it and I would try to ensure that I was not where it occurred.
This is survival on the most basic level. Being subject to violence does not guarantee one’s survival. So it is best to avoid it when we can.
We don’t need to prove that we’re macho or that we are tougher than the next guy. Rather, we need to prove that we have more wisdom and understanding than he does.

Will an ivory disallow criminalize indigenous artists’ work in Alaska?
As more districts ban sales of ivory, indigenous masters in Alaska fear law consequences despite federal principles relieving their conventional craft
Indigenous masters in Alaska are beginning to organize amid fears that a growing number of statewide proscriptions on the sale of tusk will negatively affect their livelihood.
New York, New Jersey and California are among the states that have passed some pattern of ivory ban in recent years, hoping to curb poaching and trafficking of elephants and other species overseas. More than a dozen other countries have legislative tries under way to overtake similar measurings. Laws also censor the sale of walrus, mammoth and mastodon ivory fabrics legally used by indigenous creators in Alaska, and an economic lifeline to native communities in that state.
New Jersey, New York, California, Massachusetts and Washington all have constitutions on the books that, to some extent, prohibit sales of bone. But survival digging for fossilized tusk and chase of walrus in Alaska is legal for Alaska Natives.
Its not just a pastime for us this is our livelihood, pronounced Denise Wallace, an indigenous Alutiiq ivory carver now living in Hawaii, which is poised to pass its own broad-minded proscribe of tusk. I live out of the state, but I know there are a lot of people up[ in Alaska] who are living in hamlets, and this is their total income as well.
What Does It Take For You To Receive My Heart by Susie Silook places the high rates of violence towards Native American wives. Walrus ivory, bone, and gut membrane, seal “hairs-breadths”, old whale bone, grove, metal, beadings. Photo: Chris Arend
The statutes as they are written, Dalee Sambo, a University of Alaska-Anchorage political science professor, added, fail to specifically protect the rights of indigenous Alaskans guaranteed under federal law to sell ivory carves and artwork. Some of the countries that have passed legislation include exemptions, but Sambo said the general communication could leave the door open for prosecution at the territory level.
Characterizing the various types district constitutions as ill informed of the exemptions granted to Alaska Natives, Sambo, who represents the Arctic region on the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, also said the regulatory ambiguity between states is an unjust load on Alaskas indigenous artists.
They have the responsibility to take the necessary measures that are consistent with the law, and the legislation has exceptions for Alaska Native parties, Sambo suggested of the US Fish and Wildlife Service, which enforces ivory regulations. Most of[ the bans ], if not all of them, are wholly unaware of the federal constitution entitled the Marine Mammal Protection Act, which does include an exception for Alaska Native beings. Not only to hunt walrus but also their utilization of the ivory.
I can understand the need to protect the elephants, supposed Susie Silook, a Yupik artist from Alaskas St Lawrence Island , now living in Washington state. I truly can, and I care about the elephants. But its kind of preventing to see indigenous issues thrown under the bus.
Trisha Kehaulani Watson, a native Hawaiian who is active in that states ongoing effort to ban the sale of ivory, disagrees.
This law doesnt trump federal constitution[ which gives Alaska Natives to sell tusk ], Watson articulated. As an indigenous person, I would never want to undo the interests of another indigenous person.

Most everyone in the hamlets are related to an master, Silook read of her dwelling town of Gambell, Alaska, and those masters often cater important income for categories and communities. When she still lived in Alaska, Silook said she would witness merchants spend tens of thousands of dollars in exactly a few dates on ivory commodities, drawing sparkle to an otherwise fighting economy.
As climate change causes ocean frost to recede, that lifeline is becoming all the more important. Hunters have to travel farther to find walrus and whale, and gasoline is expensive there, Silook answered. Income from carvings, especially from fossilized tusk, will become even more essential for survival.
The individual regime outlaws on tusk warn that lifeline, the Alaskan artists allege, at the least by preventing potential purchasers with complicated regulations.
We have a long record of hunting for our subsistence and subsistence allowance, mentioned Paul Apangalook, a hunter and bone carver on Alaskas St Lawrence Island. Its becoming more and more difficult to do so, and ivory forbids add another challenge, he enunciated.
When asked how she would respond to the concerns of Alaskan masters who horror more ivory regulations will dissuade potential customers, Watson, preaching for the purposes of an ivory prohibit in Hawaii, articulated: For us, consumerism isnt everything. Its important, but it isnt everything. We believe that there are routes you can change your income. You can change how you make money, but you cant inevitably change other things. Weve lost practises, weve lost traditions, weve lost practices, since we are did not have enough forethought to protect our species.
She lent: Having enough food to devour and protecting your traditional patterns are more important than customers.
Both Wallace and Silook suggested Alaskan carvers across the country were caught off her guard by the implementation of these restrictions, and that they are beginning to organize a coordinated effort to respond.
Ive constructed my living off this my whole life, Wallace alleged. I dont just knowing that I would do if I couldnt use information materials any more.
We requirement a spokesperson, Apangalook pronounced, who first started carving in the 1960 s, but no longer can due to his poor eyesight.
[ Ivory hews] help to keep our identity out there, Silook enunciated. A plenty of periods, parties arent extremely well informed indigenous people, or that were even still here.
