Related to the last post I reblogged but I think it would be nice if people got it in their heads that yes, it's shitty that trans/genderfluid/genderqueer rep is primarily shapeshifters, because trans/genderfluid/genderqueer people deserve to be taken seriously even without bodies that magically change to align with their gender, and deserve to be treated as humans instead magical nonhuman beings. AND many trans, genderqueer, genderfluid, etc creators may make characters who are shapeshifters and trans/genderfluid/genderqueer/etc to process or express their own gender feelings. AND we can criticize this wider pattern of dehumanizing and othering trans/genderfluid/genderqueer identities by portraying them as shapeshifters WITHOUT attacking trans creators for their portrayal of trans identities and experiences.
