Fuck the FDA, seriously
It's just super awesome how the system for getting ADHD meds 100% assumes you don't have ADHD and are therefore capable of laborious multi-step processes to access your meds.
Vyvanse got a generic version in August 2023. However, there's a shortage of that and other ADHD medications. When my prescription was renewed in December, my insurance informed me they would only pay for the generic. Okay. But then Walgreens informed me that they didn't have the generic in stock. But don't worry, they assured me, they'd order it! Fast-forward to three months later and I still don't have meds.
Of course, the recommendation for this situation is to call around to other pharmacies to ask if they have it in stock and then ask my doctor to send the prescription there. This would be annoying but doable, so long as the medication wasn't needed to treat an executive function disorder. Because, uh, doing what's recommended requires a hell of a lot of executive functioning.
I've been without meds for months and in all that time I've been unable to remember and/or follow through on:
1) Looking up the list of pharmacies in network,
2) Looking up each pharmacy's phone number,
3) Calling each pharmacy to ask if they have generic Vyvanse (while dealing with the added anxiety of knowing that many will probably treat me like an addict drug-seeker for doing so),
4) Contacting my doctor to ask that he resubmit the prescription to a different pharmacy (which has gone over like a lead balloon in the past because, again, they assume I'm an addict drug-seeker).
Of course, I have to hope the doctor submits the prescription in a timely manner (past interactions have taught me that won't happen) so that the prescription can be filled while the pharmacy still has it in stock. And apparently I may have to do this process every month because the FDA won't approve an increase in production of ADHD meds, so shortages are likely to continue.
Because I'm unmedicated, I'm using all my energy and effort to stay on top of things at work. This means my personal life falls into disarray because I don't have the mental energy to allocate to it or the ability to focus after trying so hard at work. To add insult to injury, all the effort I'm directing at work is only partially successful. It's infuriating to know that I should be able to access a safe and effective medication that treats this disability and vastly improves my quality of life, but the FDA thinks the continued shortages are acceptable, I guess. 🫠

California's State Assembly voted in favor of House Resolution 57 on Wednesday, establishing that August will be recognized as Transgender History Month starting in 2024 — and making it the first state to honor trans history with such a designation.
The legislation cites California’s long-ranging significance in trans history, starting with Spanish colonizers’ “suppression of gender variance” among indigenous people, which the resolution says was “a foundational event of the history of the state.” It also cites the Stonewall precursor Compton’s Cafeteria Riot, Lou Sullivan’s trailblazing activism on behalf of trans men, and the establishment of the Transgender District in San Francisco in 2017, among many other events.

I have had a lot of thoughts on the original story after listening to the Sherlock&Co "Gloria Scott" and a new headcanon just dropped.
Chapter 1: part 1 - part 2 - part 3 - part 4 - part 5 - part 6

thoughts, if you're curious:
As far as gay Victor Trevor absolutely got me, I don't think there was anything serious between him and Holmes. This all comes down to my reading of Holmes, who is (to me) too aroace-spec to get involved in a regular relationship (althouuuughh about Holmes, his sexual and romantic orientation and him discovering it I have had so many thoughts I could write a whole essay). He likes to have a default person though, someone who will take him as he is, and maybe even admire a little - now that's Watson, earlier it was Trevor.
And yea I think Victor got a crush straight away after their first meeting, maybe they even talked about this at some point. Maybe Holmes said that he won't be able to reciprocate this affection but if Victor is fine with keeping things as they are, then he is too. I like to think they stayed pen friends even after Trevor's leave.
I feel like I should emphasize this? My intention in the comic was to make Trevor visibly flustered because he didn't expect a young attractive boy (he's hopeless in my head), while Holmes simply didn't expect to see someone his age and so sincerely sorry.
