Hi tamelee ❤️ can you do an analysis/review of Kishimoto's recent popularity poll art? I saw a hashimada shipper comment on how Kishimoto drew Madara and Hashirama on exact opposite sides of each other + his love for symmetry and I was wondering if you noticed anything interesting in the illustration (just general observations, doesn't have to be about shipping 😊)

Long post - Image heavy:

Well, first my eye was drawn to the brightest part of the drawing. Promptly in the middle, big, foreshortening technique used on Minato's arm leading you to his face secondly where the colors gradually get darker and more saturated. As are the colors surrounding the NinJutsu to make it stand out more. Every line on this drawing illustrates Kishimoto's experience, talent and hard work regarding his knowledge on composition.

Then..

Sakura is holding the same type of axe-weapon she was also holding in an illustration for Chapter 15.

Naruto has a slightly different one on Volume Cover 33 too. (I'm obsessed tbh- LOOK AT THE KURAMA-TEETH ON THE SCROLL)

As you pointed out Madara and Hashirama are on opposites of the illustration, almost as if they're battling each other! But also look at how Kurama's tails embrace them, how that enhances the movement and expression of their battle-intent + the Rasengan twirls!! 😱 AND the weaponry that both come from behind their heads at the same spot. (Omg I love Kishimoto so much.)

(Of course on these sides too!)

Naruto and Sasuke are paralleled on either side of the illustration too! (And so are Kurama and Shukaku 🤭..)

Speaking of Shukaku, Gaara is holding what looks like the "Tea Kettle" he was sealed in. The former Jinchuuriki 'Bunpuku' and the beast were inspired by a Japanese folktale 'Bunbuku Chagama' where the creature in the tale is a raccoon dog, like Shukaku.

I think that's a really nice addition. (Especially since I saw this legendary creature used as a toy by this mini-Hinata look-a-like gremlin in 'Boruto'.. what's up with that anyway..)

I think Kakashi's weapon is kind of like the Kamui Shuriken he used when they fought Kaguya?

Furthermore:

I'm glad Kakashi and Sakumo are together on this.. also, Obito's goggles have made a comeback ;-;🥹! It's funny to me that Kishimoto started to draw Naruto with goggles (a way to cover himself and hide as he did in Chapter 1)

..but then said in a later interview that it was too much work. (I tried a few panels drawing them and I totally get it...) Anyway I digress-

We can also see Shisui wielding a sword/drill that looks like it was designed with his supposed(?) Susanoo in mind. This was seen in Ninja Storm the game.

NOW I'M NOT SURE ABOUT ITACHI'S SWORD... BUT:

It loooooooooks like a masamune sword, but I'm not sure.

I'm no expert on weapons. If anyone recognizes it...

Long-ass Indra's arrow-bow.. in physical form.. legendary!!! So fine 🤌 I also love how Kurama's tail frames him in the background. Orange looks good on you Sasuke.

The way the Rasengan swirl pulls your attention on him (and the characters in general) + the Chakra/energy sparks are all placed so nicely *-*! It really communicates more movement and liveliness into the illustration.

Neji is holding what looks like Chakram/Chalikar weaponry? These are throwing knives used for.. well throwing AND close combat. At least that's what I thought at first but then I was thinking about it more and the Hyuuga's "gentle fist" is based on "Baguazhang". This is a martial art style which uses a lot of rotation style techniques. (Hence.. "eight trigram palm" is real because that's what it literally means.)

There are special Baguazhang Crescent Moon knives/Deer horn knives that look like this:

I think that's what these are, which are perfect for rotation-based combat.

In the same category, Baguazhang in practice used a double-edged sword called 'Jian'. It was known as the "gentleman of weapons" in Chinese Folklore. Early Japanese swords known as 'Ken' or 'Tsurugi' are often based on 'Jian'.

It does seem a bit unusual since most of them don't have a guard like that, but they exist as Changjian, or longsword.

What she has could be a Tsurugi though not sure.

Regardless, it seems pretty heavy for her 😁?

Naruto and Jiraiya both stand very wide, using an open, boisterous body-language that Kishimoto often uses for the both of them in many of his previous art. This over-the-top, theatrical design and visual representation is based on 'Kabuki' which is a traditional form of Japanese theatre, dramatic performance/dance. The umbrella is called a 'wagasa', often used in these plays/ceremonies.

I'm happy these two made it!:

A sword made from the tail of Sasori's puppet, Hiruko? That goes so hard!! It kinda reminds me of Renji's (character from Bleach) sword. I always thought that design was so cool, but this one also has that poison..

Not sure how those clay mask bombs work wrapped around a string, but you gotta admit, they're pretty artful! Perhaps it's like wire binding infused with Chakra.. Or what if, once he has put them on you, your head explodes or something..

Additionally:

I love how Kishimoto just added Guy (and Kurama) because he wanted to but also because having Lee and Guy together on the illustration just seems right.

Shikamaru with Asuma's Chakra blades of course~ (He uses them for his Shadows Imitation Shuriken techniques... but I read he gave them away to Mirai?)

I might be missing many things but..

The more I look at it, the more nods to earlier work I see, tbh I could go on and on. I really appreciate it.

Oh and.. no there is no shipping-intent and hints/clue's at all that's also not what this is made for.

Don't let anyone fool you. Naruto is looking up to the banner he's holding lol. It's a shame that the first thing people look for is things like that and then discard the entire thing when it is made with passion, love and hard work..

I've heard a lot about Suna as Middle Eastern headcanons, but I don't want to ignore the Japanese aspects they've put in.

Like Temari has a fan & wears kimono (traditional fashion) most stylish out of the sibs, Kankuro's design based on kabuki & bunraku (stage play / entertainment) which is fit his personality, Gaara has that kanji & tanuki beast (literature & folklore) he's a nerd paperwork.

Right, Konoha has that nine-tailed fox inspired by old folklore too.. But can we talk about Suna? It has a monk called "Bunpuku" and he's a jinchuuriki of Shukaku, a tanuki. Also, Shukaku was sealed inside a tea kettle. ("Bunbuku Chagama" folktale reference)

And I've ever mentioned the comparison between the three siblings of the sand and the three kami (which is also siblings) in one of my post's tags

Does it remind you of when Yashamaru said something like "your mom gave birth to you to kill " ??

I'm unsure what old ruin is that, but I think it must have it's own story.. I think Sunagakure has its own depth and history that I wish I could dig in (not talking about the politics).

However, I also think Middle East culture suits well to people who lives in desert areas (*I KNOW desert area is not only in middle east, I want to relate this with that hc). Like that cloak, its building architecture (e.g. they use thick stone for buildings not wood & arches, domes), and most importantly CULINARY (definitely not/less raw fish/rice/seafood etc.). It would be nice if Suna has a mix of Middle East and Japanese.

Día 2: Manos

La forma en la que dos personas se agarran de la mano dice mucho de cómo es su relación; desde amistad, compañerismo o incluso amor. Y creo que tanto Kishimoto como Pierrot lo han usado mucho como parte del lenguaje corporal del SNS. 

Compañerismo/ Amistad: Ellos chocan puños en señal de victoria en el Ova de la misión proteger la aldea de la cascada y al final del opening 1, en ambos casos lo hacen luego de derrotar a sus oponentes. 

También se han dado la mano en las crónicas del ninja Jiraiya cuando Naruto venció a Sasuke, al final del ending 2 de Naruto shippuden (el AU escolar) y hasta cuando son adultos. Dicen que cuando se tiene la palma de la mano hacia abajo (arriba de la otra) es la persona que usualmente toma un papel más dominante en la relación. Significa que busca protegerte y guiarte; es muy común esta manera de agarrar la mano sobre todo en los hombres. Me gusta como parece que esto hace variar de posición en Naruto y Sasuke, lo que fuerza la versatilidad que les veo cómo pareja.

Juntar los dedos índice y corazón dentro del manga tiene un significado dado por Kishimoto, el cual es “la señal de reconciliación”. Fuera de eso encontré una publicación en la que decía lo siguiente:

“Las parejas que suelen entrelazar los dedos muestran que tienen una conexión muy profunda y significa que su relación va más allá de lo físico, que no tiene miedo a ser vulnerables y a que se sienten muy cómodos juntos”.

Me gusta cómo este significado va muy bien con la imagen de Naruto y Sasuke de niños entrelazando sus dedos, pues siento que les da una imagen de una conexión profunda, inocente y pura. 

Por último, otra forma de juntar las manos de Naruto y Sasuke fue la conocida por ser la que liberó a todos del Tsukuyomi infinito. Sin embargo, yendo a la información del propio manga. En el capítulo 660 en el cual aparece el primer jinchuriki de Shukaku, Bunpuku se nos explica lo siguiente:

En la mano izquierda tenía el kanji “ukeru” que significa “recibir”. En la mano derecha tenía el kanji “kokoro” que significa “corazón”. Y cuando estos dos kanjis se juntas hacen la palabra “ai” que significa “amor”.

Cuando Naruto y Sasuke juntan las manos y los liberan a todos Naruto usa la mano izquierda (la de recibir) y Sasuke la derecha (corazón). 

��Por qué creo que lo dicho por el monje se puede relacionar con ellos? 

Sencillo, antes de la pelea final entre ellos, Hagoromo dijo que confiaba en que pudieran convertir el odio en amor, o más bien, recuperar el amor. 

PD: Por estas cosas bromeo con que el amor homosensual entre Naruto y Sasuke salvó al mundo shinobi XD

HIM! Bunpuku is there.. I really wish to explore his lore. What's Suna's motive to seal Shukaku inside the monk? Do they expect a monk to join the war? Gaar said Shukaku was sealed inside a tea kettle, known as "spirit of the sand"

Imagine if Bunpuku had a chance to guide Gaara. Like.. nart can meet his mom (&dad), but Gaar died once and we didn't see his interaction with his mom (Karura) nor this monk?

All that aside, I think it's funny since we all know Shukaku is the drunkest bijuu, meanwhile his jinchuuriki are mostly like.. calm, collected, and not drunk.

Could it be possibly.. KARURA?? Technically, a bijuu sealed inside of her first to make gaar become a jinchuuriki right? She probably died because of bijuu extraction, not childbirth. (both?)

AU Verse; WSE/Founders' Era/Jinchūriki AU

(Yes, this verse is Many Things! Timeline can vary depending on RP needs)

In this verse, Jiraiya is a nomad of combined Land of Fire and Land of Lightning heritage with no clan ties to speak of. He sometimes associates himself with an ever-changing community of wanderers that his mother and grandmother before him were raised into, but chiefly swears what allegiance he has to spare to the toads of Myōbokuzan.

Yes, he is still a sage... but here’s the twist. He's also a jinchūriki! A jinchūriki of... SHUKAKU.

The reasons for wanting to play with the idea of Jiraiya as Shukaku's jinchūriki are stupid as follows:

The tanuki statue that Jiraiya uses for his kawarimi no jutsu that one time.

Shukaku and Jiraiya would have the ultimate Rowdy Screaming Bastard Synergy

Shukaku's tail lewk could have some cool as hell effects on Jiraiya's ponytail in Tailed Beast Modes

The fact that tanuki are basically mascots for bars and restaurants, booze and mischief, good fortune and particularly uncanny luck with money—suits Jiraiya's vibe

Jiraiya figuring out that in order to get Shukaku to calm the hell down and let him sleep, he just has to get them both good and drunk (as such, the guy is constantly drinking for two heh)

Shukaku and Gamabunta having to get along!!! The drinking contests that would unfold!!!

A tailed beast with a jinchūriki that isn't bound to any one clan or group of people—and later, not bound to any village? Yes please.

And the chain of events leading to this?

Bunpuku died unexpectedly due to the stress of Shukaku's influence on him; Reto dispatched shinobi to try and get control of the beast, but he proved difficult to chase

It was during the resulting rampages that Jiraiya just happened to be passing through many settlements in the Land of Wind.

Drunk as a bastard, of course, and an adept fūin master that had learned from the likes of the Shimura on his travels, Jiraiya decides to be a hero...

And so he engages Shukaku, has a big comical drunken fight with him, eventually defeats him with a big barrel of sake, then seals him into himself.

He's a wanted man in the Land of Wind for like, EVER afterwards.

Other random information/plot points:

He still writes romance, but there aren't as big publishing companies in those days so his fame as an author is relatively small

No Prophecy to fuck his life up

Wins every drinking contest without fail

Ages 25-35 approx.

Masters Sage Mode much sooner thanks to Shukaku gathering the chakra

He doesn't join Konoha when it is formed, knowing he would be weaponized

Even so, he has good relations with most Land of Fire clans, what with being raised there.

May seek out the Uzumaki if his seal turns out to be shoddy

Still has ties to his Sansukumi counterparts in this time, with Tsunade being a slug-summoning Senju noble he constantly tries (and fails) to romance, while Orochimaru is a Ryūchidō-based summoner and sage affiliated with the rivalling snakes. As always, romantic feels for them both.

Definitely, as always, a big hoe.

Uses his fealty to Myōbokuzan as an excuse to evade village politics
