Woke up after three hours of sleep absolutely freezing despite having a heap of winter blankets. Realized my blood sugar was low, tried to sit up and nearly passed out. I had a protein bar within reach but I was shaking so hard that I could barely get it open. Spent most of the day feeling weak and sick in bed with a headache
Anyway, imagine your whumpee

2/21/24 PlyoJam, Strength and stretch
Today was 45 minutes of cardio, a shorter strength session (15 mins), then 30 or so stretching.
Blood sugar does not come down during exercise, it seems, but after, which Dr. Google says is normal... 🤷‍♀️ Mine seems to go up during sleep, which makes sense, I guess, cos I eat my main meal in the evening... maybe I should go for a walk after dinner or something to reduce that impact?

T1 diabetics how do you eat good cereal (fruity pebbles or anything that isn't just plain corn flakes) without your blood sugar skyrocketing. I weigh my cereal and milk out and wait 15 minutes after taking my insulin but im ALWAYS above 200 after eating cereal. I even started using Fairlife milk which is like half the carbs of regular milk. I just want a midnight bowl of cereal without waking up at 200 an hour later

Understanding Blood Sugar
Blood sugar, also known as glucose, serves as the primary source of energy for cells throughout the body. It is derived from the foods we consume, particularly carbohydrates, and is regulated by the hormone insulin. Maintaining blood sugar within a normal range is vital for proper bodily function, as both high and low levels can have detrimental effects on health.
Tumblr media
Risks of High Blood Sugar
High blood sugar, or hyperglycemia, poses significant risks to health, including an increased likelihood of developing diabetes complications such as cardiovascular disease, nerve damage, kidney dysfunction, and vision problems. Additionally, prolonged hyperglycemia can impair immune function, leading to a higher susceptibility to infections and delayed wound healing.
Lifestyle Modifications for Lowering Blood Sugar
While genetics may play a role in blood sugar regulation, lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and stress management exert significant influence. By implementing targeted lifestyle modifications, individuals can effectively lower their blood sugar levels and reduce their risk of developing diabetes-related complications.
Dietary Strategies for Lowering Blood Sugar
Diet plays a central role in blood sugar management, with certain foods and eating patterns exerting notable effects on glucose levels. Emphasizing low glycemic index foods, such as non-starchy vegetables, whole grains, and legumes, can help stabilize blood sugar and prevent spikes. Additionally, consuming fiber-rich foods, practicing portion control, and staying hydrated contribute to improved blood sugar control.

Exercise and Physical Activity
Regular physical activity is a cornerstone of blood sugar management, as exercise enhances insulin sensitivity and facilitates glucose uptake by muscles. Both aerobic exercises, such as walking, cycling, and swimming, and resistance training activities, such as weightlifting and bodyweight exercises, offer benefits for lowering blood sugar levels. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week, supplemented by strength training exercises on two or more days.
Stress Management Techniques
Stress exerts a significant impact on blood sugar levels, as hormonal responses to stress can elevate glucose concentrations in the bloodstream. Implementing stress management techniques, such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, yoga, and progressive muscle relaxation, can help mitigate these effects and promote better blood sugar control. Additionally, prioritizing adequate sleep and fostering a supportive social network contribute to overall stress reduction.

Medications and Supplements for Lowering Blood Sugar
In some cases, lifestyle modifications alone may not be sufficient to achieve optimal blood sugar control, necessitating the use of medications or supplements. Oral medications such as metformin, sulfonylureas, and DPP-4 inhibitors work by various mechanisms to lower blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity. For individuals with type 1 diabetes or advanced type 2 diabetes, insulin therapy may be necessary to regulate blood sugar effectively. Additionally, certain natural supplements and herbs, such as chromium, alpha-lipoic acid, and cinnamon, have shown potential for supporting blood sugar management, although further research is needed to elucidate their efficacy and safety.
Monitoring Blood Sugar Levels
Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels is essential for assessing the effectiveness of treatment strategies and making informed adjustments as needed. Depending on individual circumstances, blood sugar monitoring may involve self-testing with a glucometer, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems, or laboratory-based hemoglobin A1c testing. Establishing target blood sugar goals in collaboration with healthcare providers helps guide treatment decisions and optimize outcomes.

Conclusion
Lowering blood sugar levels is a multifaceted endeavor that requires a holistic approach encompassing dietary modifications, regular exercise, stress management, medication adherence, and vigilant monitoring. By adopting proactive strategies tailored to individual needs and preferences, individuals can achieve better blood sugar control, reduce their risk of diabetes complications, and enhance their overall quality of life. Remember, small changes can yield significant benefits, so start implementing positive habits today for a healthier tomorrow.

PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS OF INCREASED PHYSICAL AND MALE IMPOTENCE DURING DIABETES
Tumblr media
High blood sugar levels are a hallmark of diabetes, a chronic metabolic illness that is highly dangerous to one’s general health and well being. Male impotence, often known as erectile dysfunction, is one of the many issues linked to diabetes that many people face. For management and preventative initiatives to be effective, it is imperative to comprehend the complex interaction between male impotence and diabetes.
Overview of Diabetes
Diabetes can take many forms, the most common being Type 1 and Type 2, each with unique risk factors and underlying processes. Insulin resistance or inadequate insulin production causes Type 2 diabetes, while the body’s incapacity to create insulin causes Type 1 diabetes. Both kinds can cause blood sugar levels to rise, which can have devastating effects on different organ systems.
Understanding Male Impotence
The inability to obtain or sustain an erection strong enough for sexual activity is referred to as male impotence, sometimes known as erectile dysfunction. Numerous causes, including psychological and physical ones, might contribute to this illness. Physical reasons include vascular, neurogenic, or hormonal disorders; psychological aspects include stress, anxiety, or depression.

Link Between Diabetes and Male Impotence
There is a well-established link between diabetes and male impotence, with diabetes substantially raising the risk of erectile dysfunction. Male impotence is a result of the complex interactions between neuropathy, diabetes-induced vascular damage, and hormone abnormalities. Statistics show that compared to the general population, diabetics have a higher prevalence of erectile dysfunction.
Recognizing Symptoms
It is critical to identify the signs of male impotence and diabetes in order to begin treatment and early detection. Diabetes can cause weariness, increased thirst, frequent urination, and unexplained weight loss. However, reduced sexual desire, nervousness during performance, and difficulties getting or keeping an erection are all signs of male impotence.
Diagnosis and Treatment Options
In order to diagnose diabetes, blood sugar levels must be measured using a variety of diagnostic procedures, such as glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) testing, oral glucose tolerance testing, and fasting blood glucose assays. Similarly, physical examinations, blood testing, and psychological assessments may be used to diagnose male impotence. Treatment options include dietary adjustments and regular exercise, as well as pharmaceuticals such oral phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, hormone treatment, and surgical procedures like penile implants.
Prevention Strategies
Proactive diabetes management, including glucose control, medication adherence, and routine monitoring, is necessary to prevent diabetes-related male impotence. A balanced diet, frequent exercise, abstinence from tobacco and excessive alcohol use, and other healthy lifestyle choices can reduce the chance of developing diabetes and erectile dysfunction. Regular erectile dysfunction and diabetes screening lowers the risk of complications by enabling early detection and prompt treatments.
Psychological Impact
Male impotence associated with diabetes has psychological effects in addition to medical ones. These effects frequently include mental discomfort, low self-esteem, and strained interpersonal connections. In order to manage the combined burden of erectile dysfunction and diabetes, psychological stressors must be addressed through couples therapy, support groups, or counselling. Navigating the obstacles posed by sexual dysfunction requires partners to have open lines of communication and mutual understanding.

Seeking Support
Consulting with medical specialists, such as primary care physicians, endocrinologists, urologists, or mental health specialists, can be very helpful in controlling male impotence caused by diabetes. Additionally, connecting with others going through similar struggles through support groups or online forums promotes a feeling of community and solidarity.
Conclusion
In conclusion, men with diabetes who experience male impotence face serious medical and psychological difficulties. People can effectively manage diabetes and erectile dysfunction and enhance their overall quality of life by comprehending the complex relationship between the two disorders, putting preventive strategies into practice, and seeking timely intervention and assistance. To attain the best results and foster wellbeing, holistic techniques that treat psychological as well as physical issues must be prioritised.

Before my father died, he read an autobiography by another Trinidadian man in his peer group about what life was like on the sugar cane estates. My dad lived in the labourer barracks on Golconda Estate with his grandparents when he was little, so he was very disparaging of this other man’s account and started noting down his own experiences out of spite  XD
We found a bunch of his notes after he passed, all in his draftsman’s block capitals (a little shaky in his 80s) and I’ve been very slowly going through them. Sometimes it’s hard to conceive of the change that my dad saw in his lifetime. The indentured East Indian workers arriving in the Caribbean seem so long ago to me, but he still saw the direct legacy of all that shit.
[ TRANSCRIPT ]
DUTIES:
1) The Gen. Manager (white English) was the head of the estate & reported to a head manager delegated by [to] owners (”Tate & Lyle”) of England.
2) The overseers also white were mostly bachelors sharing a multi-room bungalow. They dressed in [kakhi] short sleeved shirt, khaki short pants, khaki tall socks, boots & khaki cork hats & supervise all top personnel.
He used to talk about seeing those overseers ride up and down the estate roads on horses, in their cork hats, with whips. In another section of his notes he remarks that all the white English had servants, too.
“In 1937 Kielberg sold his Liverpool sugar refinery to Tate & Lyle and in return was invited to become a co-investor in the company’s new West Indies raw sugar venture.“ <--- this is all that the Tate & Lyle website has to say about its history of exploitation in the canefields. We were nothing more than the living machinery of its venture.
