Are you a fan of #Bridgerton? Did you know Queen Charlotte is #biracial? What a way to break glass ceilings for #biracialwomen! Queen Charlotte is played by Golda Rosheuvel. Shes a #Guyanese #British actress and singer. She is known for her theatre work and a number of on-screen roles, most prominently for the portrayal of Queen Charlotte in Netflix's Bridgerton. She was born in #Guyana to a Guyanese father and an #English mother. "I am of a #dualheritage; my mother was White, English, and my father Black, Guyanese. And all my career, because of the color of my skin, I have played Black roles. Representing my father, I’ve done that. But to represent my mother’s side who is White, that is quite a unique opportunity. I get to be involved in a period drama that I never really saw myself doing because there weren’t any Black people being cast in those roles. So, to get the opportunity to play a Queen, I celebrate that.” Her stage credits including Porgy and Bess, Macbeth, The Winter's Tale, Romeo and Juliet, Angels in America, Bad Girls: The Musical, and Jesus Christ Superstar. In 2018, she played a lesbian Othello! She's also an out and proud #lesbian IRL. Her partner is writer Shireen Mula. She is Patron of An Tobar and Mull Theatre, a multi art form creative hub on the Hebridean island of Mull, which is off the West Coast of Scotland. “Heaven is Diverse” photographed by: @victoria.p.allen • • • • I wrote a piece awhile back that never got published about growing up biracial in a predominately black/white community. And, no I am not black and white like most people assumed because of the texture of my hair, my fair skin or because that’s the only mixed race home they were accustomed to seeing growing up, but Black and Indian (yes literally from India). So happy I was able to express myself through this beautiful photo series with a talented creative like Victoria. I have learned over time to love every part of me and to identify with both cultures although I was raised between two westernized households in Atlanta/Sacramento. What that really means is that I love both hot wings and mangos, forces paired with traditional saris and musical arrangements from A.R. Rahman to Florence Price! Embrace every part of you and your heritage. I must add that diversity extends beyond race. Just imagine Heaven.
