Bisexual erasure. “When bisexuality is ignored, discriminated against, demonized, or rendered invisible by both the heterosexual world and the lesbian and gay communities. Often, the entire sexual orientation is branded as invalid, immoral, or irrelevant.”
what does it Look like?
- Assuming that two women together are lesbians, two men together are gay, or a man and a woman together are straight
- In most scientific studies, bisexuality is lumped in under “gay” or “lesbian” identities
- Many LGBTQ+ organizations don’t offer programming for bisexuals
- Questioning someone’s bisexuality if they haven’t had sex with both men and women.
what does it sound like?
- “I’m not interested in dating you because you’ve only dated men.” (Implying that I’m actually straight)
- “Bi women are more likely to leave you for a straight relationship.”
- “He’s only ever dated men, so he’s obviously gay.”
- “There’s no point in coming out as Bi if you never plan to leave your current relationship. You just want attention.”
what are the consequences?
- Bi erasure leads to bi phobia (discrimination, anger, blame, and hypersexualization).
- Bi people have *significantly* higher health risks than any other sexual identity group, including alarmingly high rates of depression and suicide.
- Bi women experience much higher rates of domestic violence.
- In the ‘80s and ‘90s bi people were blamed for spreading HIV. and we are still blamed for the spread of other STI’s.
what can I do?
- If you want to help, here’s what you can do:
- Check your own biases When someone says something shitty about bisexuality, correct them—even if a bisexual person isn’t present
- Ask your local LGBTQ+ orgs to offer bi/Pan programs
- Donate time or money to bi-specific organizations.

people will be like thinking about shadowheart with a man makes me violently ill. i hate going into the astarion tag because there are people who don't seem gay enough for me in there romancing him and enjoying his character and i have to see their headcanons. the characters are all actually playersexual because they can always be romanced by the main character (conveniently making it impossible for me to have to regard any bisexual love interest as such), so it's okay to say they're whatever sexuality i want and it's actually fucked up of YOU to deny me this (so i will ignore blatant mechanical and narrative evidence of their bisexuality, while also demanding that you care about my desire for representation while i deny you yours).
and if you ever call them on it, they play the victim. whether the biphobia was obvious or subtle, they will always either pretend like they're being attacked, or play the "oh no the [insert insult here] people have found this" card, because... what. they think biphobia is just when people say "i hate bisexual people," and not the myriad ways in which people scorn, condemn, deny, and express their discomfort at bisexuality?

hey. you probably won't see this, but i just wanted to say thank you for not being a jerk about bi lesbians. it's really disheartening how much hate we still get, and it's nice to see someone just. not doing that.
it's nice to know someone with a (probably?) big blog/account is in our corner.
not sure why i shouldn't be able to see this ask, i am not as big of a blog as some people think HAHAHAHA. but hey you're welcome. I'll always stand behind anyone who defines a label through their personal experience. as long as you're not trying to define other people's experiences for them, it's literally nobody's business but yours.

ok I’ve gotten A LOT of comments in which people are confused whenever I’ve said that Hunter is probably bisexual, so here it is!!! (for the people who didn’t know)
First of all, the most OBVIOUS example is THIS scene from “Thanks To Them” where he holds up a sweater he made, in which there’s a rainbow with the colors of the bisexual flag.
[ID: a screenshot of Hunter from The Owl House. He has short hair and is wearing his casual outfit from season 3. He is smiling while holding up his homemade sweater that is dark blue with several patches sewn on it. The more noticeable ones are a Dino Land patch, the mountains, wolfs, and a rainbow that is pink, purple and blue. END ID]
BUT if he wanted to show support for Luz coming out, then he would’ve used the rainbow patch/pride pin like Camila does. PLUS, in Willow’s scrapbook, she put the bisexual and lesbian pride pins next to a picture of Luz and Amity on a date, therefore the kids know about how pride pins look like and what they mean, and WE KNOW this is Hunter’s sweater because there’s a sewn patch of wolves, which are important to him, therefore the bi rainbow is there because he knows its meaning and it most likely matches him!!
And this isn’t THE ONLY TIME we see him with the colors of the bisexual flag!! Look at THIS from “Any Sport in a Storm.”
[ID: a screenshot of Hunter from The Owl House. He is wearing his Golden Guard outfit minus the cape, and Flapjack is on his shoulder. He is slightly blushing. Behind him, there is the Boiling Sea and the sky, which is colored pink, purple and blue. END ID]
This show is known for using LGBTQ pride flags as inspiration for their backgrounds, so the fact that this has happened TWICE around him is most likely intentional, so good for him!!!
ANOTHER piece of evidence I like to use for him being bisexual BESIDES THE OBVIOUS PRIDE FLAGS is that someone asked Hunter’s voice actor who he would take to Grom, and he mentioned female characters like Skara and Emira BUT ALSO male characters like Edric. (I don’t have the screenshot of the tweet sadly.) Of course, voice actors don’t always dictate what’s canon or not, but I feel like this is a nice hint, regardless of whether he was joking or not.
I have ALSO heard that Dana did art of Hunter on National Bisexual day, but I don’t have it with me :/
Anyways, the boy is bi!!! Deal with it!!

ppl will sometimes act like bi ppl are more universally hated than gay ppl. bc its well understood that many straight people are homophobic but they'll be like "straight people hate us AND gay people hate us!!" well you could very well say the same of gay people. lots of straight people hate us AND lots of bi people hate us.

leans into the mic so close im almost swallowing it.
saying a character with canonical interest in m/f relationships is actually just gay is still biphobia.
i can't believe im still seeing these takes in 2024 but here we are. biphobia isn't just saying a canon bi character is gay or straight it's also saying a canon straight is 100% gay actually and that canon fling was just a beard or they were confused or compulsory het, bi people exist, we are here, we are not any less queer, you're still being biphobic, go fuck yourselves
