The Pressing of Olive Oil – The Pressing of Jesus
The Pressing of Olive Oil – The Pressing of Jesus
About a year ago I saw an Instagram post by Dave Adamson that brought several analogies to mind and inspired me to do some research and write a post. His post was about Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane and the parallels of an olive press (“Gethsemane”) and Jesus being pressed with the weight of our sin and his sacrifice.
As we enter the…

A WIP that I’m tooootally gonna finish, guys.
I got into Star Trek in the fall and I’m obsessed. (Particularly with Spock ^^ <3)
Now that I’m a fan of both Star Trek and Star Wars, I love being able to mess with both sides. Live long and may the Force be with you! 🖖

Reading The Four Loves by C.S. Lewis (and loving it so far), when--
"But the nature-lovers whom I have in mind are not very much concerned with individual beautiful objects of that sort. The man who is distracts them. An enthusiastic botanist is for them a dreadful companion on a ramble. He is always stopping to draw their attention to particulars."
Is this from personal experience. Is. Is he talking about Tolkien.

I am sick and tired of seeing shit takes from people about how characters like Sawako (Kimi ni Todoke) and Miyo (My Happy Marriage) are "unfeminist" because they're shy and soft-spoken. When Miyo is literally that way as a SURVIVAL TACTIC because SHE WAS FUCKING ABUSED And Sawako is showed to have social anxiety and the other kids are shown to kind of bully her. But both girls gain confidence and strength as both series progress. NOT ALL WOMEN HAVE TO BE STONE COLD BADASSES TO BE STRONG!!! Geez…

ultimately this is gonna be the reason why i will never understand people who insist that the light fury as character is perfectly fine. because she’s not fine, she’s not even an actual character.
she’s a plot device. dean deblois said this himself. she is the generic wife mate to toothless and mother of his offspring. these are objective facts. i actually think that it’s almost gross that dart, ruffrunner, and pouncer have more actual personality and character than she does. this isn’t even mentioning thunder, the “descendant of the great alpha toothless,” as they say with a much quieter, less grandiose mention of light fury. because oh right, she’s here too, we guess. and not at all a narrative object we threw in here just so toothless could reproduce.
and that’s thing: most, if not the entirety of the light fury’s popularity comes from what she could have been. headcanons, redesigns, fix-its and alternate endings and alternate universes. fanon. made up. nothing but hopes and dreams.
“queen of the hidden world,” but is and or was she really? i feel like being the queen of all dragons would at least get you mentioned as such instead of just as the ‘king’s wife’, essentially.

Fun funky sci-fi concept I just had:
Androids can't comprehend/don't believe in randomness.
Why? because...
The computers we currently have can't be random, we can make algorithms that appear random, but solid intentional math is still behind the creation of the randomness algorithm, and thus whatever "random" result it picks.
So if sentient computers were aware of the algorithm they use to "pick a random number", they would not consider the number they picked random, they can see the intentional math behind the number picked.
And in most sci-fi settings, androids are created by humans on purpose. They are made from blue-prints and hand selected materials, that can only come together to form life because of thousands of years of technological progress. There are no unplanned pregnancies that make androids.
And so when humans give them examples of random, unintentional creation of life, like unplanned pregnancies, they dismiss it with "that wasn't random, you just can't see the logic behind it."
Basically: androids believe in some kind of Intelligent Design by default. So rather than ending up with a sci-fi where people have transcended religion, you'd end up with the opposite:
Thousands of a new people who are certain that the universe must be intentional, and looking to find what that intention belongs to.

Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world. Matthew 5: 13, 14
What are we all striving to become? Take a look at what Jesus wants us to be. Jesus said, you are the salt of the earth. Salt softens, preserves, adds flavour and cures. Like salt we can penetrate into the sin ridden world and be a source of healing and comfort and make a difference.
Jesus also tells us that we are the light of the world. We are to shine like stars in the universe. Our world is often dark and we are called to brighten up our spot with the light of God's truth. Live a life according to God's word, without compromising, you will be the salt and light of this dark world.
