Hiding here for a while because the upcoming changes on DBD are causing chaos on twitter right now. 

I mean it’s always chaos whenever there’s perk changes but my god the devs basically said ‘fuck you’ to solo survivor players with these changes. BCoH and med-kits have been nerfed into the afterlife and Dead Hard has changed again for the 50th time and works more like Deliverance now. 

And flashlights don’t work on Wraith and Nurse anymore.

Got the brainworms.

A Nest Torn Empty, the month Mike is away. There are some flavors of trauma that might interestingly suit that scenario. These are just little brainstorms, don't feel like. Compelled to use them lmao

One might fit the idea of being medicalized, poked and prodded. Psych test after psych test, evaluations and therapy as it was in the eighties, possibly by particularly shitty professionals who try to go the therapy version of "bad cop" and INSIST mike is lying just to see if he breaks?

Another might be someone deciding to enact some kind of revenge on Evan's behalf. This could go any number of ways, but I think it would be interesting if someone who has been in Evan's position before decided to try and create some version of "a taste of his own medicine" for Mike, though obviously without the near death bit bc of plotlines etc.

And then there are less obvious things that kind of get left out. Being torn from your family all of the sudden is traumatic. He doesn't know what's going to happen to him, or to his brother and sister. Whether or not he's in another abusive place, the sheer amount of differences could throw him off. All the rules are different, all the people are different. He probably feels very isolated.

(You're giving me ideas for the au where Mike thinks Evan died after they're split up, lmao)

In terms of reactions, I think there might be more of a shutdown than his earlier behavior. If nothing he's doing yields ANY reaction– good or bad– then why bother? I think a lot of it would just lead him to be very tired by the end of it all.

Final aspect that I think would be interesting: as the kids grow up and actually learn to talk about the shitty upbringing they had, I think Mike's month away might fall to the wayside for a while. Nobody else thinks about it; it doesn't come up.

Eventually, though, it does need to be addressed. Maybe it kind of pales in comparison to the bite itself, but the experience still hurt.

okay first off I think it's so funny that I have to outsource all my "how would Mike react to xyz trauma" stuff to you,, like how dare you know him so well and have so many tantalizing Mike thoughts /honorary /pos

i think my initial idea was more along the lines of like,, Mike keeps insisting that he didn't mean to hurt Evan, but the more the psychiatrists poke and prod and question him, the less certain Mike is.

All of Mike’s claims that "I didn't know that would happen" and "i didn't mean for him to get hurt" and "i didn't want to kill him" are met with stuff like. "So there's no history of you hurting him?" "So Evan hasn't been put in danger by your actions before?" "So this behavior is a recent thing that came out of nowhere?" And just like. General questions that, whether asked out malice or from people genuinely trying to understand if Mike is a danger to himself or others, only serve to highlight in Mike’s mind that maybe he is inherently evil, because every time he swears that he didn't mean it, he's just met with a reminder of all the times he has in fact hurt Evan and others before and with the reminder that he could do it again at any time.

The idea that there are certain "professionals" there who just insist that Mike is lying about not meaning for the Bite in an effort to get him to cave and break???? Oooooh boy. Angsty, I love it. Maybe as time passes and Mike gets more and more frustrated, his "medical treatment" and "psychiatric professionals" just get worse and worse as a result of his lashing out. It starts out with the psychiatrists just trying to be thorough and get a detailed understanding of what happened, and the mere nature of their questioning frays Mike as he interprets their questions as them not believing him. He tells himself that he's crazy for feeling so attacked by them when they're professionals trained to help people, but like. It doesn't make the problem go away. Mike starts lashing out as he feels like they don't believe him. And his lashing out is ofc seen as signs of hostility, leading to worse and worse "treatment" (in both sense of the term), and leading to him being placed with awful "professionals" who blatantly tell him to his face now that he's lying about not meaning to hurt Evan to get Mike to break.

And the whole experience just, like, shreds every sense of faith Mike had in his own judgment. He doesn't know what to do or think anymore, and it doesn't matter anyway, because no matter WHAT he does or thinks it has the same result of people just. Making him feel cruel and evil, like he'll inevitably hurt someone, like he's a monster and has always been a monster and is trying to manipulate everyone here in the psych facility and everyone he's ever known into thinking he's NOT a monster for his own personal gain.

Worst thing is that in Mike’s eyes, these are strangers who don't even know him or know anything about him, and yet they don't NEED to know him to know that he's evil. Mike coming to the conclusion that theres something so fundamentally broken about him that people can PHYSICALLY SEE IT, he reeks of it, it's the first thing people see when they look at him, the ONLY thing people see. People don't even need to know him to see straight into the evil in his heart. Which is only furthered when he goes back home and all these classmates he never talked to before are calling him a murderer, not to mention Liz's ambivalent reaction to seeing him again.

The Departure of the Shining One

(Written for @flashfictionfridayofficial​‘s FFF50 prompt: Mouth to Mouth. Set in one of my previous universes, which has been gathering dust, Black Cat of Hearts. Enjoy!)

You watch her, knowing that she’ll never love you back.

             You bring her clothes and you tell her that her sister is waiting in the forest at moonrise, and you don’t know what that means. You don’t know but you have seen the clothes and you can guess where this is going. You can guess that she is going.

             She smiles at you and tells you that she’ll be down in a minute once she changes. She removes the mask and you think that her voice suits her. Her face suits her, all darkened skin and beautiful twisting braids framing it and her lipstick is smudged a little bit from where her mouth touched the champagne glass.

             You want to kiss her even as you know that the cost of doing so will be a bittersweet reminder that you’ll have to carry in your heart long after she’s gone. She doesn’t love you, not the way you love her. She’ll never even notice you even though she’s been the one person in this entire kingdom that you look up to with respect and admiration rather than grudging acknowledgment. She’s the one person who you would give your heart to, if she ever asked it. She will never ask.

             You smooth out your own dress and head downstairs to distract anyone who might be looking for her. It’s the least you can do for her, though you know that she is far more skilled at distracting and misdirection than you. It’s one of the reasons that you admire her. The rest of the ladies of the court require fancy jewellery and elaborate dresses to show off their status. She could walk in with nothing but a rice sack and still be the most elegant and impressive.

             She never talks about herself. She smiles at you and you don’t know how but suddenly you’re spilling your life story to her and you never realise till later that she’s not said a single thing about herself. You don’t actually know anything about her. You’ve seen her around, once or twice walking next to another girl who greatly resembles a slightly younger version of her. You think she’s her sister, except her sister’s hair is always a mess and there are stains on her fingers. Their eyes are the same, both shining gold in the dark, and they have the same high cheekbones. You wonder how many siblings she has.

             You’ve known that you’re in love with her for a long time.

             You know that it’ll never happen but you want her to get poisoned. You want her to get into some form of danger and pain and have her heart stop or something, something that would make her require your help for something. You know it’s selfish and a terrible horrible thought and you don’t want to think it at all, but you want her to be in danger and in pain and you want to her to need your exclusive help.

             On an objective level, you know it’ll never happen. You know that there are whispers in court that her sister is a scientist and her older sibling is a doctor and you wouldn’t even be the first person she calls upon if you need help. Also, if she’s survived in court for this long, she probably can identify poison on her own and has her own defences against it.

             You respect that, even as you wish your help was needed. You lie in bed sometimes and think about convoluted scenarios where she urgently needs help and you’re the only one who can give it. You think that you’ll straighten your arms, lock your elbows and pump her heart. You’ll draw the poison from her, press your mouth to hers and take it away from her.

             She’s wearing the clothes you brought for her and she inclines her head towards you as she sweeps past you on the dance floor. The expensive wooden tiling gleams under the light, a show of extravagance, as you wonder where her previous clothing has gone. But this is her. If anyone was capable of strange and wonderful things, it would be her.

             You’re the last person to see her, and she winks at you from the doorway. Her lips curve into a mouthed ‘thank you’ and she blows you a kiss, before swirling off into the night. You don’t know and you of all people know that that’s not how it works, but you imagine catching the kiss and pressing it to yourself in a soft embrace. You imagine that the kiss blown to you is the soft smile of her lips against yours.

             You pretend not to know what’s happened to her or her family a week later when the court finally realises that Iridesca Carrow has left.

Avro Lancaster B.X 'KB976' (G-BCOH) by Alan Wilson Via Flickr: The history of KB976 is best described as 'complicated'. Built in Canada in 1945, it was delivered to the UK for the RAF, but immediately returned to Canada as the war had ended. In RCAF service it was converted into a 'B.10(AR) Victory' which gave it an extended nose. Struck off charge in 1964, conversion to a fire bomber was not completed and in 1974 it was registered as G-BCOH and in 1975 flown to the Strathallan Collection in Scotland. When the collection closed in 1987, the aircraft was bought by Charles Church and moved, by road, to Woodford for restoration to fly. Two things then happened. Charles Church was sadly killed in the crash of Spitfire V EE606, and the Woodford hangar containing KB976 collapsed. Doug Arnold, of Warbirds of Great Britain fame, purchased the remains. Then things really got messy!! Mr Arnold purchased 2 further airframes, Avro Lincoln RF342 previously at the Southend museum, and the fuselage of Lancaster KB994 from Canada. The parts of all 3 aircraft then went on a magical mystery tour including Biggin Hill, North Weald and ending up at Sandtoft. Currently, Kermit Weeks has a complete Lancaster airframe at Polk City, Florida which officially has the identity KB976, while the Lincoln is in Australia (or at least on it's way to a museum there). Still with me? So, exactly what do we have here? My guess is that this is the genuine forward fuselage of KB976 which was damaged in the Woodford hangar collapse making it unairworthy, but it is perfectly suitable for static display. The Kermit Weeks KB976 (I suspect) includes the nose section of KB994, combined with the airframe of KB976. Anyway, back to Brooklands. When we visited in June 2011, the Port side was in RAF Bomber Command markings as 'Our Beautiful Babe' while the starboard side remains in genuine RCAF colours. Whatever the history, it's great to see this airframe finally back on display again! msn 277. Brooklands Museum. 14-6-2011

right imma be talking about these scenes and i already know i’m gonna write way more than i should but lmao

okay so first of all, i love the writing. this whole episode had amazing writing but the e20 scenes stood out to me for some reason. it’s that type of dialogue that i really love - the snidey, witty, fast-paced back-and-forth that you don’t see very often (especially in soaps) because it’s not really how people talk. it’s really prevalent when they’re sat down and talking about how to treat louise - there literally isn’t a break in the entire conversation because they’re both snapping at each other. and it’s so good??? like that is how you keep a scene engaging, especially when it’s entirely dialogue: you make it sound like music. gAH danny even delivered it well???? that’s how you know it’s good LMAO

i love how layered the scenes are too. ben’s “because people get married all the time, for many different reasons”?? the look of alarm on ben’s face when keanu says “you’re jealous of her, ain’t you” like for a split second he thinks keanu knows about callum?? we stan?????

the personalities really shine through in these scenes too. yes! keanu actually has a personality in these scenes!!!!! ikr!!!!!!! ben’s such a prick to keanu throughout this whole episode but keanu tells us why with one little line in the middle of it all - “oh, poor ben, daddy doesn’t love me.” like that’s it!! that’s the reason ben’s doing all of this. he’s so bloody jealous of keanu and everything that keanu’s achieved whilst ben’s been away (hell he genuinely believes phil loves keanu more than him) and so he’s going to resort to what he knows best - attacking keanu at his weak points: he’s not a mitchell, he’s poor, etc. but then keanu doesn’t care! he bites back with “i’m a taylor, she’ll be a taylor”. it’s not until ben points out that they’ll be living on the run that it starts to bother him.

and then keanu hits a nerve with “if you really cared about your sister--” and ben gets so annoyed because oh my gOD it’s an essay in itself just how much ben loves his family but is just shit at showing it.

(also the whole speech ben gives keanu about how the taylors are trash and keanu’s dating the boss’ daughter just to get a seat at the table shows how warped ben’s idea is of the mitchell family and how he thinks they’re like the corleones of the square when really they’re just another fucked-up family and being brought up with phil constantly going on about the mitchells are superior has led him to genuinely believe it)

and then the final scene happens and yeah the punch-up is a bit 🙄 but it is a soap and honestly it felt like a really good climax to the build-up of the past scenes. and there’s still so much to get your teeth into because it’s in this scene when we finally get to see how the day has started to properly affect ben because he starts spouting all this about how love gets given and taken away (i choose to see this as mostly a reference to paul but you can’t ignore how he says this literally on callum’s wedding day). and keanu’s so opposed to it - the staunch difference between their two philosophies, ben’s pessimism and keanu’s old af i will provide for my family attitude - it’S SO GOOD IT’S SO GOOD I LOVE SOAP RIVALRIES THEY’RE SO DRAMATIC

keanu wins the fight too, which i actually kind of love bc lbh he deserves to, he’s in the right. i’m not Buzzed about ben getting beaten up again and it was at this point that it started to get silly but you can’t say it wasn’t undeserved. 

lmaoo i wrote so much but thank you anon! i am and will always be a slut for this dynamic and christmas is gonna murder me holy fuck i can’t wait to see ben’s reaction to realising he was right about keanu all along

1. Do Micheal and Evan eventually fix their relationship later on in the au?

I'd like to think so. It's just difficult to say how or when that happens. 

Michael’s trying to be better, but like. He hurt Evan really bad for a long time. Evan has no reason to trust him; he's been burned by Michael acting nice to him just to trick Evan and purposely hurt him again before (and I imagine there's been some times before where Mike has felt guilty for hurting Evan and acted kinder to him than usual as a result, but these periods of guilt and "kindness" never last long). 

(He's been burned by Liz acting similarly too, ofc, but Liz never tried to kill him. Liz isn't the reason he spent months in a hospital bed. Liz isn't the reason his head hurts. Liz isn't the reason he can't read or write anymore. Liz isn't the reason he's been physically marred, from his hair to his eye to the scars on his skin. Liz isn't the reason he couldn't walk for a month and now can only hobble on a crutch.)

It's hard for Ev in part because he has no choice but to be around Mike all the time in the Afton house. He gets no distance, no chance to heal. The person who hurt him is always lurking somewhere nearby; sometimes just out of sight, sometimes close enough to touch. Evan just can't heal enough to forgive Michael while his brain is still panicking from "I'm in danger" senses 24/7. And for the record, he can't completely forgive Elizabeth, either. He's trying, but even by the end of BCOH, he hasn't forgiven Liz any more than he has Mike. 

Mike and Evan have little moments of peace and trust in Collection, but so far that's all they are. Little moments. Maybe, once Evan leaves the Afton house for Freddy's and gets the distance and time he needs to heal, he'll be able to see how hard Mike has been working to make up for what he did and all those little moments of brotherly peace will linger in his mind, building into something more. But if this happens, it's because Evan chooses it for himself. It doesn't happen because Mike deserves forgiveness for what he did; Mike doesn't. It's a harsh truth for how young and traumatized and abused Mike is, but he doesn't deserve Evan’s forgiveness in the slightest. 

However, I think it's central to Evan’s chatacter that he just wants his family together and happy. I think he'd forgive and take a chance on Mike again sometime after he heals, not because Mike deserves it, but because Evan wants his brother back. There's a scene in my head already where Evan has been living at the Fazbear house for a while, and Freddy tells Evan that Liz and Mike have been asking about him. Asking if he's okay. Asking to talk to him, to see him. Freddy tells Evan that he doesn't have to if he doesn't want to. Evan is stuck thinking about it for a long time, wondering if he should let those two back into his life in any capacity. But he chooses, after a lot of deliberation, to see them again on the condition that they agree to go to therapy with him, as a family. Because he wants to be happy WITH them. He wants them all to be happy together without hurting each other. He just wants his brother and sister back the way they are in his vaguest memories, when he can catch hold of said memories from the sea of trauma and repression and fear (and just time; he's too young to remember the kinder moments between him and his siblings) clouding his mind. 

So, yeah, at some point in the far future, Evan and Mike (and Liz) will finally start to repair their relationship in ways outside of the little moments seen in Collection. But for now, that's all these moments are. Just small, fragile moments. Little things that Evan doesn't know if he can trust, even if he tricks himself into believing just for a moment that Mike wearing an eye patch for Halloween or watching cartoons with him on the couch can be something More between them.
