BBC Merlin Headcanons:
Arthur would have panic attacks, which were normally caused by built up stress from ruling the kingdom, his dad's expectations and never talking about his feelings.
No matter what Merlin would always be there for him, even if it was in the middle of the night.
Merlin walked in on Arthur having one of these panic attacks which then led to them becoming a lot closer and it was then, crying into Merlin shoulder, his arms wrapped around him that he realized he was in love.

this is my first entry for @bbcmerlin-reversebang or any other fandom event!! it was so fun to make this and get snippits to read as i went along!!
make sure to read the fic here because why wouldn’t you?? its merlin and friendship and space?? government conspiracies and sci fi rebellions?? the futuristic merlin ending we needed??!
here are my art contributions (alongside a cyborg aithusa sketch cause i got carried away)

Tumblr media
the merlin fandom can always use more sci fi fics, and the wonderfully talented just_snakess had all the best ideas from the get go and was so fun to work with (i blame them for encouraging cyborg aithusa and i will never headcanon differently now)
LINK—just in case ppl missed it the first time! summary:
The year is 2372. When King Arthur finally returns, Merlin is on the other side of the solar system, and is helpless to prevent him being swept up by the government.
Thus begins a journey across the solar system, crossing paths with crimelords, rebel leaders, and very, very old friends. Will it be enough to free Arthur? Or will the Once and Future King fall victim to a mysterious plot that threatens the very border between life and death?

Back on my bullshit with more Future!Merlin headcanons, but I imagine that Merlin in the future has grown very proficient in using his magic staff? Like, in the show we only see him using a staff a few times, and usually just for like, a basic blast of energy (probably because CGI budget, but still). However, I’m imagining Merlin using his staff like Thor. Throwing it, and the staff rocketing around and blasting everyone with lightning before coming back to his hand. Him whirling it around like Li Shang in I’ll Make A Man Out of You. Honestly, why would Merlin ever bother working on swordcraft when he could work on staff training and becoming a certified Terrifying Sorcerer TM? Surely there’s someone somewhere trained in using a staff. Heck, Arthur could probably train him in the basics. Also, magic staffs increase your magical potential, right? Or at least help you focus it better? Imagine you’re an enemy knight rolling up to Camelot and this bearded man walks out and summons a fucking staff to his hand, his eyes alight with lightning. I’d run for the hills, man

Merlin has tattoos everywhere.
His arms, his legs, his chest. Everywhere u want to imagine. Except the places one can see for professional purposes. You thought it were scars? Merlin has Cover up tats for his scars.
Arthur does not know this for many years.
Eventually Arthur decides to get his own first tattoo, because the Druids do it and he's their homie now.
So he sits there, waiting until the needle and colors are prepared and Merlin sits next to him, reassuring him everything will be fine. They have decided to get one together. Not the same. Merlin's is much smaller, because .... Space. But Arthur doesn't know that.
Arthur is nervous enough to get annoyed by this. So he says: "it's not like YOU know how this feels. I'm not getting some small sissy tattoo like you are."
Iseldir, the tattoo Artist (please imagine him inked to the core, it's kinda hilarious) raises an eyebrow at Arthur.
"Butterflies aren't sissy tattoos" Merlin counters.
"they are.", Arthur insists until Iseldir stops their bickering and tells Arthur to show him where to get it. Arthur does and watches how Iseldir applies the ink. He grunts a little in the beginning, until he's gotten used to the Sensation and then he sighs in relief.
Soon, it's merlin's turn.
Iseldir: so, Merlin. Where do you want your butterfly tattoo?
Merlin: erm, I was thinking of adding that one to the dragon on my back?
Arthur: wait, the what now?
Merlin wordlessly takes of his shirt.
Arthur stares. And stares. Because everything is inked. The dragon on his Back is massive.
Arthur: when the HECK-
Merlin: wanna see a magic trick?
Arthur can't answer, when Merlin's eyes glow golden, as do the tats and reposition themselves as if they were alive. "Cool, huh?"

Elyan headcannons cause I just watched dark tower and I'm sad
He sings, he used to travel a lot and often found a company to join on his way between towns, so he picked up some folk songs and became somewhat of a traveling bard for awhile, performing in various pubs for money (it took a while but eventually they figured out gwaine had seen him perform once)
He knows how to sew, and often fixes the other knights things during quiet knights in the common chamber
He used to play pranks with Leon till Leon went into training and got too serious for such things, but after the round table is established elyan goads him back into pranks on the other knights
He and gwaine are in love, there I said it, they are free spirited bards of pure chaos with a deep sense of loyalty, and they were meant for eachother
He always suspected merlin was more important than his rank let on, and would frequently go on impassioned rants about why arthur should raise his station to advisor of the king and councelor
He spent a period of time with the druids and learned some very basic magic which he uses to cheat at building fires when they have night patrol
Back on the bard thing, he found out Percival knows how to play the lute and immediately demanded that he gwaine and Percival form a boyband (they play at the rising sun every Wednesday)
He secretly misses his old village a little bit, he confesses this to gwaine and Percival one day around the campfire when they're talking about where they came from
Obviously after his confession gwaine and Percival get merlin and Gwen on board and they take a little road trip back there and Elyan gets way too excited showing them all his friends shops
Elyan was an artist growing up, he liked to draw pictures on his father working or Gwen gathering flowers, he mostly draws for blacksmithing designed now, but he sketches the odd flower or two when he gets the chance
He and Arthur have an ongoing battle over who can get to the top of the highest tower the fastest. It's a long and very drunken story
In conclusion, elyan is my favourite boy, he's just a very charismatic nerd boy who would probably DM their DND sessions if I ever wrote and modern au

Hey merlin blogs I wanna test something
If you see this, you gotta reblog with your favourite headcanon you have that either slightly contradicts canon or has Literally Zero Evidence to support it.
Mine would be that Mordred helped Morgana escape the Sarrum of Amata but never told her or anyone else. And also that Isolde is Irish nobility and has some magic.

little bbc merlin headcanon thing (I might rewrite this in a better way later):
on their last mission, Arthur found out about Merlins magic. There was no other way to keep them alive and Merlin would rather be executed than let Arthur die in front of his eyes.
It was then when Arthur snapped, exclaiming that he never wanted Merlin near him again, much less his highest servant.
But now, sitting alone in his room, he realized what an idiot he had been. It was obvious now. Merlin used his magic for every thing. He had just been to stupid to notice.
And there was something else her realized.
Not only was he an idiot, but he was an idiot in love.
But Merlin was no where to be found.
But sense when did that stop Arthur?
So there he was, riding bareback into the woods with barely any supplies. But that didn't matter.
He was of to find his lover

BBC Merlin characters as children of Greek Gods / Goddesses
Arthur Pendragon - Son of Zeus Children of Zeus are normally known to be strong and independent leaders, like Arthur was shown to be in the show. Most children of Zeus normally strive towards a particular ambition, which Arthur does throughout the show. Most children also normally have a strong sense of justice, which is again shown through Arthur and his retaliation against his father with things that Arthur thought was wrong, sometimes even refusing to act upon orders. Also, I want to add that most children of Zeus are seen as “Physically fit and attractive” and honestly, that is just Arthur. Merlin / Emrys - Son of Hecate Ok ok hear me out with this one. Children of Hecate are literally children of witchcraft; therefore, it makes perfect sense for Merlin to be the Son of the Goddess of Witchcraft. Hecate’s children are also known to be considerably mysterious, sneaking around and not answering to anyone but themselves, seen by Merlin as through most of the show, everyone in Camelot has no idea of what he is actually doing and where he is from. Children of Hecate are considerably stronger when using magic, like Merlin. They can also make strong potions and remedies, and with Merlin being Gaius’ apprentice, it again makes sense. Morgana - Daughter of Zeus - Hunter of Artemis This makes a lot of sense. Most of them being the same reasons I previously mentioned with Arthur. But Morgana has an extremely rebellious side to her, as seen in the show. She knows exactly what she wants to do and how she wants to overcome the obstacles to get to that. She thinks about her plans a great deal but can also be quite reckless. And making Morgana a Hunter of Artemis, I just feel like it’s her. In the show, she has been shown never to have any romantic relation with any males, so it just makes sense. Plus, Hunters are badass, and Morgana is pretty badass. Mordred - Son of Hades Children of Hades tend to keep to themselves a lot, not really speaking or interacting with other people. Also, Hades’s children tend to hold grudges, as seen by Mordred with holding the grudge against Merlin and Arthur for destroying the Druid camp he was staying at, making Mordred a son of Hades. They tend to have “dark attitudes” and are not very trusted amongst others, like how Merlin didn’t trust Mordred. So yeah! Gwen- Daughter of Dike Dike is the Goddess of Justice, Fair Judgements and Law. That's all I have to say. Because Gwen has a good sense of justice throughout the show, making fair judgements and is honestly one of the most lawful characters in the show and you can fight me

Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table all collectively share four and a half brain cells
Three of which are burnt out, one is playing battle music on repeat and the half is talking about Merlin.

a case for nonbinary/genderfluid Merlin:
Merlin is never about postering about his masculinity. He’s taken all the ‘girl’ insult attempts in a stride because 1. he aint sexist, ARTHUR and 2. he doesn’t mind in general
He can transform into clouds, trees, animals, change his age and probably everything else tbh. Why limit yourself???
Merlin is magic itself. Magic has no gender.
Magic is often comparable to nature in the show and in general. Nature defies binaries. We try to assign gender and sexuality to nature and it keeps breaking those boundaries.
Merlin=Magic=Nature=No strict gender binary
Merlin would look lovely in dresses BBC, you cowards
Because I’m also nonbinary and I want him to be.
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk.✌️
