𝘓𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 - 𝘊𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦 𝘕𝘨 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
✨ Another read for a literature class and I liked this one even if the ending was too open for me as I like books to tell me what the ending is and not leaving it open for interpretation.

✨ I liked how the characters were challenged to grow but I do have to admit that my own viewpoints and opinions sometimes made it hard to remember that the book is set in the 90s and a lot has changed since then.
📚Goodreads-Synopsis:
In Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, everything is planned—from the layout of the winding roads, to the colors of the houses, to the successful lives its residents will go on to lead. And no one embodies this spirit more than Elena Richardson, whose guiding principle is playing by the rules.
Enter Mia Warren—an enigmatic artist and single mother—who arrives in this idyllic bubble with her teenaged daughter Pearl, and rents a house from the Richardsons. Soon Mia and Pearl become more than tenants: all four Richardson children are drawn to the mother-daughter pair. But Mia carries with her a mysterious past and a disregard for the status quo that threatens to upend this carefully ordered community.
When old family friends of the Richardsons attempt to adopt a Chinese-American baby, a custody battle erupts that dramatically divides the town—and puts Mia and Elena on opposing sides. Suspicious of Mia and her motives, Elena is determined to uncover the secrets in Mia’s past. But her obsession will come at unexpected and devastating costs.
Little Fires Everywhere explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, and the ferocious pull of motherhood—and the danger of believing that following the rules can avert disaster. 📚

How do these myths square with your own experiences as creative people? How do you think stereotypes or myths about the life of creatives create problems for the real artists who are living these lives?  How do your spiritual beliefs that impact how you consider these ideas?
These myths are very interesting to learn about, because I did not think about that stigma as an artists. These myths allow a questionable look into the artists mind, letting us know that the painter was not thinking about unicorns and rainbows. In the painters head a lot of things are being talked about, and the artists is creating art as a means to escape their reality.
The stereotypes about artists create an unrealistic life for actual artists, especially when they do not live that life. In reality, the lives of artists are all creative with no two lives being the same. Artists get inspiration from the things around them. There are so many different paintings, which mean that artists areal having different experiences that create differentiating inspiration.
My spiritual beliefs impact how I considered these ideas because I was not being judgmental but relational. When Jesus walked this earth, he was relational with his disciples as well as the pharisees and sadducees. He also did not judge them or let others judge people. Judging is something only God really has authority on, so I make sure that I do not judge people. However, I become as relational as I can, because that is what Jesus did and wants us to do as well. “Love covers a multitude of sins.” is what 1 Peter 4:8 says. Jesus wants us to love others over being judgmental of others.

Reading Response
As I watched the Love the Art, Hate the Artist video my mind slowly swirled and spiraled into how exactly I view art in relationship with the maker of it. My ideas toggled back and forth on whether I would even want to consider liking a certain artist’s artwork if they had done disgusting things or said offensive statements. I thought about the ways in which information affects my eyes when I go back and look at art with some kind of newfound revelation of who the artist actually was or is. After much thought and consideration, I would say that it’s extremely difficult, and near impossible, to divorce the art from the artist. No matter how hard you may try, keeping these two elements separate is not going to happen. I think that there is a way, however, to appreciated and advocate for the artist’s skill, devotion, and creativity while also acknowledging that no one is perfect and everyone carries around flaws. God sees past our gross pasts and mistakes and still calls us beautiful. I think we should all strive to be a little more like God.
Then, as I watch the documentary on Pixar animator, Deanna Marsigliese, I fell in love with the way she constantly and consciously stayed alert and aware. She took every opportunity to observe the normalcy of life happening around her. She saw the potential behind every moment, every person, and every movement. She was careful not to overlook the small details because she knew that those were where big, beautiful, creative productions blossom from!

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘜 𝘎𝘪𝘷𝘦 - 𝘈𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘦 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘴 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
✨ Had to read this one for a class that talked about books and their movie/film adaptations so while I usually try not to read a book close to watching a movie I had to do it this time and while I liked both I felt that some key elements and characters from the book where missing from the film. And I could not take Anthony Mackie serious as the villain because of some Marvel interviews I had seen where he kept goofing off and seemed like a very like-able person.
✨ In general I really liked this book and can only recommend it but beware that it is not an easy read in terms of the topic.
I thrifted this book from worldofbooks and I was very disappointed. The prices were great but I had to pay extra customs even if it came from another country in Europe, which then would have made it cheaper to buy new and it was not in the great condition it was said to be in. So that was the last time I will order from there and will stick to my usual sites when thrifting books.
📚Goodreads-Synopsis:

Week 15 Assigned Readings
The video, 'Love the art, hate the artists' is a very interesting video, beause it reminded me that different people's actions constantly change my perception of that person. Just like people judge others based on their actions, many people judge the art upon the artists. People may like something that the artists has created, but when they hear that the artists did something that was distaseful, that might change the viewers perception of that art they just looked at.
Many christian artists are judged because of the label that people house them in. To be a Christian as well as an artist is something that is not widely accepted, let alone the new generation of Christians. Many people already label Christians as boring, but being old fashioned and behind the times makes it worse. However, the controversy is uncovered when there are differing types of Christians. The old-fashioned Christians are clashing with the new generation of Christians, which is causing a cultural shift in the way that Christians view art. In this new generation, there is a new outlook on the art industry as a positive form of self expression. Being creative is something that God has given us the ability to do so we should be able to use it to glorify God. Just like Jesus in the Bible. He was creative when he did a miracle. He used everyday things such as the multiplication of fish, or the leprosay and the calming of the storm, in order to glorify God. Jesus was performing art in itself because He was being creative. There is nothing that Jesus did on the earth that God does not want for us to do and a hundred times over. It is in each and every one of us to be creative and use our God given talents to bring glory to Him.

Reading Reflection - week 13
I found this week’s reading material fascinating and thought-provoking. I especially enjoyed the assigned chapter in imagine. This chapter got me thinking about the power and purpose that art has, specifically for Christian artists. And what about Christian musicians in the arts? How is their music categorized as Christian or non-Christian? How should artists use their music and creative endeavors for godly purposes? As I considered the text and these questions, this quote stood out to me. “It is possible to create work saturated with gospel insights without spelling out the plan for salvation, just as it is possible to demonstrate the joys of a loving marriage without showing off your wedding photographs”(Turner, 2017). With this in mind, Christian artists don’t have to shout the name of Jesus in every song or embed a cross in every painting, instead, they can drench their work with the gospel by simply being honest and real about their faith in the normal things, struggles, and relationships of life. And as I read this, I also got to thinking, “this doesn’t just apply to handcrafted artwork, it can also apply to shopping at the grocery store, sending work emails, cooking dinner, playing sports, hanging with friends, or washing the car. With everything we do, we Christians are called to transcend the ways of this world, look a little weird, and make the world thirst for Jesus.
Additionally, I enjoyed watching the Art must be Beautiful video. I agreed with the speaker in this video, that beauty is more of an experience than an objective “thing” found in all art. However, just because beauty is an experience that everyone encounters uniquely, doesn’t mean it’s any less important. Beauty is real and it has vital effects that are wonderfully needed in this world.

𝘕𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭 𝘗𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 - 𝘚𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺 ⭐⭐⭐
✨ While I understand that it is not the usual love story I do not get the hype about this book. It was nice but I need quotation marks when characters speak because whenever someone said something it was followed by xyz said and it ruined the flow for me a little.
✨ The characters are flawed and aware of it for the most part but I wanted to scream and throw the book whenever they would just not talk to each other and drag out situations and hurt because they were just not communicating.
📚Goodreads-Synopsis:
At school Connell and Marianne pretend not to know each other. He's popular and well-adjusted, star of the school football team, while she is lonely, proud, and intensely private. But when Connell comes to pick his mother up from her job at Marianne's house, a strange and indelible connection grows between the two teenagers--one they are determined to conceal.
A year later, they're both studying at Trinity College in Dublin. Marianne has found her feet in a new social world while Connell hangs at the sidelines, shy and uncertain. Throughout their years at university, Marianne and Connell circle one another, straying toward other people and possibilities but always magnetically, irresistibly drawn back together. And as she veers into self-destruction and he begins to search for meaning elsewhere, each must confront how far they are willing to go to save the other.📚
