vera makes me sad for a lot of reasons but the main one is. she’s been in a lot of abusive, toxic relationships without realizing they were terrible for her/not normal. so she’s very used to being manipulated, belittled and treated like shit by significant others. doesn’t bat an eye when a partner says something mean to her or gives massive big flags. the only thing she doesn’t tolerate is being hit. but yeah her self value is super low and too many people have treated her like shit and it’s one of many reasons as to why she is the way she is...........

    “Food’s good, yeah, but any time I’m able to see you? Makes for the best part of my day, love!” Vale smiled wide before bringing their fork and knife back down to cut at the breaded chicken piccata and pop another slice of glorified chicken nuggets into their mouth. They hummed in thought for a moment, trying to rouse Johnny up from his digital slumber and get an answer out of the specter. Glitching into the world with a tired glance to Vale, they were lucky that he liked them. He was in the middle of something important (He wasn’t, sulking in Vale’s memories is not something one wants to be in the middle of), and Vale was waking him up just to ask what he thought of Vera, an opinion he’s voice plenty of times before. 

    “He think you’re hot.” Okay, yeah, they were reciting many of Johnny’s thoughts in the past as well as that stream of consciousness. Vale poked at their plate, nodding as Johnny spoke to them. “But he…respects you. In the past, he thought–Johnny I’m not saying that–Okay. Let’s just say that in the past, he thought some mean shit, but he’s changed since then. He knows how much you mean to us, and truth be told? I think he’s gainin’ a bit of a soft spot to ya, Vera! Which is good! Doesn’t do that for a lot of people!”

“you’re so goddamn sweet,  you know that?  i can’t stick around for long,  baby.  have to meet with someone in two hours.  i’m hoping they don’t end up just wasting my time.”  she’ll be fucking pissed if that’s the case,  since she’d rather just go home with Vale and spend time with them,  probably get laid as well.  it’d been a week now and she’s starting to feel really pent up,  but they’ve both been extremely busy.  it’s hard finding time for the both of them to be together,  but they still do a good job of talking over the holo constantly.  not the same,  but it’s something.

she chuckles at the fact that Johnny thinks she’s hot,  finally taking a bite of the meal in front of her.  he’s definitely not wrong at all,  and she understands why he felt so negatively about her when he first met her.  not like he has much room to judge her,  but hey,  she’ll take it.  he’s part of the Vale package deal,  and it’s all thanks to her own actions.  “i’m sure he’s gaining a soft spot for me just because he’s seen my tits multiple times.  i’m still not a fan of him,  especially not after that tattoo he left you with.”  she motions to the heart on Vale’s forearm,  something that really set her off terribly the first time she saw it.

he’s been WATCHING her with those piercing blue hues.  he tries to age gracefully, but in this world it is expected of him to look at the top of his game.  so there are less wrinkles than there might have been at his age, and he has some tasteful cyberware.  the peralezes have been interesting employers, and now there is…  V.

something intrigues him about v, about the way she carries herself, as if she has this incredible burden to bear.  it’s subtle.  not many would notice it, but there’s a tenseness in her hands.  the way she hunches her shoulders.  she’s got a secret.  he’s curious.  so he watches as she talks to liz and jeff, tilting his head as he admires her quietly.  when they leave the room, v turns her attention to him.  tom smiles.  “there’s really nothing for me to add.”  he says lightly with a shrug of one shoulder.  “my apologies for making you feel uncomfortable.”  

“would you like something to drink?”

“not uncomfortable.  just annoyed.  usually when people stare at me for this long,  it means they want somethin’ outta me.  rather know what it is than just be left wonderin’ what the fuck is going on.”  there’s no manners or professionalism from her,  and even when she was speaking to the Peralezes,  she wasn’t too polite.  but she doesn’t get hired because of her personality,  she gets hired so often because she’s damn efficient at a multitude of jobs.  

Vera leans back on the spacey couch,  knees spreading comfortably and arms tossing themselves over the backrest.  she takes another glance around the room,  gaze stopping at the large collection of bottles against the wall.  three of those are likely more expensive than everything she owns.  “yeah,  would love somethin’ to drink,  actually.  what’s the strongest shit they own?  get me a glass of that.”

ive talked to teddy very briefly about this but! heres a semi formal headcanon post for it: vera frequently offers her body for sexual favors in return for favors done for her. it’s difficult for her to say “thank you” because of pride and it’s much easier just to be like “hey what you did for me was cool do you want me to go down on you???” she’s very casual about it all and definitely has offered some sort of sexual favor to most of her friends. she’s not offended at all when she’s turned down and she won’t ask that specific person again since they’re essentially setting down their boundaries. but yeah vera surrounds a lot of her value around her body and what she can offer in bed, which is why she’s had so many sexual partners. and, yknow, she also really does like hooking up w people. no one is forcing her. she’s just a lil dumb and constantly horny.
