CHARACTERS -
Co-Site Director Benjamin Oliver Walker - Co-Site Director, (Wise-)Bright's Husband, Founder of The Library, Head of Pedology, but most importantly: good boy extraordinaire and D-9341 variant.
Dr. Jack Bright (Wise) - Holy fuck there's so much to say about him. Chaos incarnate.
Assistant Researcher Emily Ross - Died in The 2012 Catastrophe.. wonder how she's back. (SCP-061-ICE)
Pontos Doe - Himbo intern who's into greek mythology.
Dr. Wilhem Cure - Site Head of Medicine… probably the only LITERAL doctor on-site.
Agent Ulgrin - KYS'd after 2012 Catastrophe. Got SCP-061-ICE'd (trust me you'll see what it is in time.)
Researcher Penelope Normelle - Literally the most normal person here.
Site Director Bjärk Jakobssons - Quick to snap, jeez louise. Can teleport and is omnipotent across the Site.
George Olkassen - Class-D. Everyone calls him Georgie though. Cool kid wannabe.
Electra Macbeth - Longest-running Class-D. Seriously. How is she STILL alive.
Cookie - Nickname for one of the trans characters!! :3
Dr. Alto Clef (Wise) - Oh what a fucking asshole. Seriously. Only showing up when it entertains him. Might be fucking Maynard.
Dr. Akihito Saku - The Foundation's lovable "Head of Safe Classed Objects"; always the goofball.
Dr. Hartwell Artz - The Foundation's controversial "Head of Euclid Classed Objects"; he's better safe than sorry.
Dr. Amberlynn Rhodes - Th Foundation's rather enigmatic "Head of Keter Classed Objects"; it purported she's resistant against kill agents. Basically the middle ground of Saku and Artz. Not gonna snap at you for pressing a button, but still takes her work seriously.
Senior Researcher Thomas Rivbacht - Jeez.. uh… well, he doesn't take care of himself.. at all… he really should. He uh.. misses his family and is extremely depressive. Reclusive, too.
Dr. George Maynard - Mastermind of The 2013 Catastrophe. Forgiven, but scrutinized. Pale white skin since The Chaos Insurgency revived him utilizing a spliced variant of SCP-049's Touch.
Dr. Jack Bright (Emo) - I CHIME IN!! HAVEN'T YOU PEOPLE EVER HEARD OF.. CLOSING THE GODDAMN DOOR, NO???
Head Nelson Van Martins - The GOC's Icelandic Head. He lied. He's 16, not 18. Either way, he's here now and ready to stay.
Operative Roxxane Sparkes - Another trnas character!! This one being a member of Site Guard who's easily distracted. ^^
Researcher Carly Rosè Colbert - Espionage for The French Government; truly, The French must be stopped.
Researcher Stella Gospelle - The name says it all; "EVERYBODY LOVES STELLLLAAHHHH!"; drama queen and gossip bitch. She will ruin your life.
Site Head of Ethics, Jessica Parish - One of three. The enigmatic Parish Family. Anyways, besides often being mistaken for a bimbo, she's actually quite fierce and once threatened to rip the throat of Darvann out.
Junior Researcher Alexander Grimmes - "Foundation Head of Neutralized Objects"; but more over, attention-seeking extravagant.
Dr. Michelin Frances - Huh. For "Foundation Head of Thaumiel" objects, he speaks formally, maybe a bit posh, but he isn't god awful!
Dr. Amelia Polynaut - What the fuck is going on with "Foundation Head of Apollyon" objects over here?? Bitch is fucking shattered across time and space, apparently.
Chaos - Agent #080 deployed in Nálægt, Iceland for Site-61 raids. Variant of D-9341. LITERALLY Chaos Incarnate.
Dr. Simon Glass (Wise) - Moral, upright and somewhat skittish. At least his head's in the right place, as is his heart!
Dr. Stelle Shamrock Saraden - A humanoid drone bee! He has trauma to unpack, but first, he has to unpack YOURS! :D
Agent Steve Eastside - of the Eastside channel, probably cool in the head but quick to rage.
Senior Researcher Gemini D. Shirks - or just "Shirks", based off of SCPReadings, though, I suppose I could've also just done Dr. Goods. Either way, very hip! The Researcher all the interns wanna work for since he's just chill like that.
Reseacher James Talloran (Wise) - KILL HIM AG- huh? What. Oh. Oh. Okay. No, no he's fine. Yeah. Uh. 3999's still dead. Thank god for SCP-061-ICE.
Dr. Elias Shaw (Wise) - The Foundation's SCP-963-2.. it worked but.. his mind's being fractured each time he dies.
Dr. Charles Gears (Wise) - Now this is one I haven't actually done. He's monotonous, robotic, downright cold. Anyways, stop observing SCP-914 every waking second of your.. existence? …please?
Dr. Ellis Gill Iceberg (Wise) - Well… at least now he WANTS to be alive… FUCK HE'Z THROWING MOLOTOVS AGAIN
Eve - Yes, as in THE Biblical Eve. She's an MTF Agent now. Who knew she was a bad bitch?
Dr. Agatha Rights (Wise) - Femme fatale… and actually pretty funny. Get past the slut accusations and she's basically an auntie.
Dr. Mary-Ann Walker - Hey! Walker's Aunt— GAH!! WHO'S ALSO SCP-1938-J— MARYNODON'TCLICKTHATKINK GODDAMNIT
Dr. Evans Harper - "You'd better keep your mouth shut, seal yourself lip from lip, else I'll get to cram a mouthful in~!"; loonie. He has flowers growing on him, so pretty, but a loonie.
Agent Convit - STOP FUCKING JACKING OFF IN THE CAFETERIA MAN
General Dravi Kondraki, Junior Researcher Riseo, Dr. Benjamin Kondraki - Are all here too, but I haven't done them yet…
General Patrick Philia - "…ew. Bitch, bitch! DISGUST— DISGUSTING!" (Trust me. No.)
Persons of Interest up for questioning:
Dr. Wondertainment (Wise) - STOP FUCKING TALKING FOR FIVE SECONDS
Liddy Doves, of Doves and Co. Inc. - AND STOP MAKING PRODUCTS THAT MAKE PEOPLE HORNY!!!
Charles Fernando Walker - AND… okay, well, you're fine. You just have to figure out that "Bronze-and-Jade" amulet's SCP-963-3.

so theres a lot of posts going round about the titanic wreck and the missing submarines; all of them that ive seen have made very good points about how shoddy the submersible seemed to be and how the company decided to wait eight hours before reporting it, and how this is a play stupid games, win stupid prizes for the ultra-wealthy who paid like 250grand a ticket for this thing.
but what i havent seen any posts about is how the titanic wreck is a gravesite and this tourism is disturbing the graves of over 1500 people.
sometimes its kinda hard to remember that those on the titanic were real people; it was over a century ago, the story has been romanticised in so many ways (like the movie), theres conspiracies theories galore that cloud everything with misinformation, but at the end of the day, those who died were real people.
do you want their names? heres a list of them; its a long read. and for fun, heres another site where you can see photos of the children and babies who died aboard.
their bodies are long gone and their lives long forgotten. all we have to remember them and honour them is the wreck itself. its all we have of them and it is their gravesite. its their tombstone.
caitlin doughty/ask a morticians video on the great lakes discusses the topic well, and why we should leave these shipwrecks alone because again, they are the gravesites of all the souls who died aboard those ships. we rarely have bodies to recover so we really are left just with the wreck.
and what really upsets me about titanic tourism is how the majority of those who died that night were not the ultra-wealthy rich folks you might picture when you think of ocean liners.
61% of the first class passengers survived
42% of the second class passengers survived
24% of the third class passengers survived
24% of the crew survived **
the majority of those who died that night were regular folk; not to be cliche, but they were just like us. titanics wreck is not only a gravesite for over 1500 people, its also a majority working class gravesite.
and look at us now. look at what were doing. the ultra-wealthy can pay the equivalent of peanuts to them to disturb a mass gravesite of the exact kind of people they exploit today to hold onto all their wealth.
its easy to point and laugh at these dumb idiots in their playstation controller submarine, seemingly held together with super glue and duct tape, but its also important to remember that what they were doing was simply disturbing a gravesite for fun. though the company does research, these guys werent down there to conduct research, they were there so they could brag about it to their friends. its like “climbing mount everest” while your sherpa does all the work.
if you cant tell, i have a lot of feelings about this. shipwrecks and ocean liners are one of my special interests and im currently building a (beginner’s) model of the titanic, for fucks sake. but i would never go down to see that wreck because its a fucking gravesite and we should not be disturbing their final resting place.

“I see God in the rubble,” said Munther Isaac, the Palestinian pastor of a landmark Lutheran church in Bethlehem, the West Bank town revered by Christians as Jesus’ birthplace. “And Christ was born under occupation.”
[...]
In Bethlehem, where many local Christians have relatives in Gaza, the Christmas holiday will be marked by prayers, church services and the annual procession of Christian patriarchs — but the more joyous traditional trappings are being eschewed. No twinkling Christmas lights, no lavishly decorated tree in Manger Square, no festive parade with marching bands. “How could we celebrate?” asked the town’s mayor, Hanna Hanania, whose office overlooks a nearly deserted Manger Square. The flagstone plaza facing the Church of the Nativity, a pilgrimage site for Christians the world over, is usually bustling at this time of year, but most of the souvenir shops and restaurants lining it are tightly shuttered. Bethlehem, where once-majority Christians now make up fewer than one-fifth of the town’s population of some 30,000, is a microcosm of the West Bank’s woes. Checkpoints hem it in, and the stony terraced hills — where shepherds watched their flocks by night, as the traditional Christmas carol has it — are transversed by a hulking Israeli security barrier. Surrounded by Jewish settlements, the town is home to two Palestinian refugee camps that seethe with unrest and are regularly raided by Israeli troops. “It’s not the little town of the Bible anymore,” said the Rev. Mitri Raheb, president of Bethlehem’s Dar al-Kalima University. At 61, he remembers when the unobstructed view from his nearby family home was a mountainside that turned green in spring rains. Now it is topped by a settlement, one of nearly 150 in the West Bank, which are considered illegal under international law. For Palestinian Christians, the current war marks a catastrophe embedded within a catastrophe: the potential eradication of what was already a minuscule Christian presence in Gaza. Numbering fewer than 1,000 out of a population of more than 2 million, the community’s wartime losses are disproportionately felt. Many Bethlehem-area Christians have relatives in Gaza, and are terrified for their safety.

it's not super related, but since you mentioned ageism in the dating scene in the transmisandry essay on substack it reminded me how a couple of my friends have started posting online how they're disgusted about gay men being predatory to younger guys........ and when asking about it turns out we're talking about 35yo people flirting with like, 23 year olds, *both being adults with jobs* and it's just so frustrating to misunderstand relationships of power like that and thinking that power just materializes with age (among other things). I'm not sure how to tackle this conversation with my friends because they're super defensive about it (both are transmascs who got groomed online by older men when they were pre-transition teens). I understand why it's a touchy subject for them, but I feel like they're just spreading around that old trope of gay men being more likely to abuse teens than straight men.
man i am so sick of the homophobia that's considered acceptable in """""queer""""" (ready theyfab and friends) circles, and the fucking age gap hysteria. I just saw a couple on the Grey Furs (old furries) facebook made by a couple where one partner is 36 years old and the other is 61. When they met well over a decade ago, their age difference would have been something that a lot of the freaks on this webbed site would consider to have been predatory, and now they're *both* people that that crowd would treat like creepy old people.
it's always people who had a ton of privilege and isolation as kids and went away to college right after high school who foam at the mouth about age gaps being inherently predatory and younger adults being incapable of consent. meanwhile if you have ever worked in a retail space or a kitchen or any other number of regular degular working-class jobs you learn really fucking quick how little of an indicator age is of a person's maturity and whom they can be friends with. you'll routinely see 27-year-old-managers in charge of both 19 year-olds and 58 year-olds and yeah, sometimes the 58 yo and the 19 yo are friends! It turns out when you share in daily activities and labor with someone you can really respect them as a fellow person and have a ton in common with them and that what unites us is not our age demographic but our class position!
not to mention the rank hypocrisy of "be gay do crimes" types suddenly acting like the state is the ultimate moral arbiter when it comes to the ages of people in relationships and begging for the carceral justice system to intervene the moment they find someone else's relationship "creepy."

Across Gaza, residential areas have been left ruined, previously busy shopping streets reduced to rubble, universities destroyed and farmlands churned up, with tent cities springing up on the southern border to house many thousands of people left homeless.
About 1.7 million people - more than 80% of Gaza's population - are displaced, with nearly half crammed in the far southern end of the strip, according to the United Nations.
Further analysis, by BBC Verify, reveals the scale of destruction of farmland, identifying multiple areas of extensive damage.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has said it is targeting both Hamas fighters and "terror infrastructure", when challenged over the scale of damage.
Now, satellite data analysis obtained by the BBC shows the true extent of the destruction. The analysis suggests between 144,000 and 175,000 buildings across the whole Gaza Strip have been damaged or destroyed. That's between 50% and 61% of Gaza's buildings.
[…]
"Israeli forces targeted residential complexes, especially in the downtown Khan Younis area," said Rawan Qaddah, a 20-year-old resident, who has been displaced and has lost contact with her family.
She named schools among the many buildings which had been damaged. Some were now being used to house displaced people temporarily.
[…]
The IDF has repeatedly justified its actions by noting that Hamas deliberately embeds itself in civilian areas and explained destruction of buildings in the light of targeting fighters. But questions have been asked about destruction of buildings seemingly firmly in the control of the IDF.
One example was the Israa University, in northern Gaza - initially badly damaged shortly before being blown up completely in what looked like a massive controlled explosion. The video was widely shared on social media and the IDF says the approval process for the blast is now being investigated.
Many of Gaza's historic sites have suffered extensive damage, including the al-Omari Mosque originally built in the 7th Century.
Mr Scher, one of the academics who worked on the Gaza damage assessment, said it stands out compared with other war zones he's analysed.
"We've done work over Ukraine, we've also looked at Aleppo and other cities, but the extent and the pace of damage is remarkable. I've never seen this much damage appear so quickly."

@gengirlstuff put in a request a few weeks ago for a teen sister!Casey fic. Thank you for your patience and I hope you enjoy!!!!
Not Elsa Afterall- TeenSister!Casey
Summary: During a snow day, you end up at the firehouse with your brother and extended family. After being led into a trap, you become hypothermic and your family has to try and save you.
Warnings: some language, mentions of past abuse (in a way), PTSD, claustrophobia, hypothermia
~~~~~~~~~~~
Some would say your childhood was unconventional at best, but you couldn’t have asked for a better one. Since you can remember, Matt Casey, your older brother, has taken care of you and so has the whole of firehouse 51. Since Matt and Kelly are such good friends, Kelly was named your godfather and Stella Kidd your godmother. Matt would entrust you with almost anyone in the house, but even after everything, Kelly and Stella are the only people he would want you to go to if anything happened to him.
Since it’s a snow day, you had to go to the firehouse with Matt. Not that you ever minded, even at the age of 15 you still get spoiled by all of your aunts and uncles. Cap and Tony are your prank buddies, which normally ends in a war against Hermann, Mouch, and Cruz. Violet, Stella, and Sylvie always make sure to spend some sort of girl time with you when you are at the firehouse, even though they are always doing girl trips and girl nights with you off shift. When Truck is gone, it’s an unspoken rule that either Kelly, Hermann, or Boden is in charge of you. If everyone has to leave the house at the same time, which didn’t happen often, you had to ride along, but you never got out at a site unless absolutely necessary. Most of the time, when there is nothing going on, you can be found lounging in one of the officers’ quarters. More likely than not, you are with Kelly playing “firecop”. You have thought about being a detective when you grow up, given the great relationship you now have with all of Intelligence and Trudy Platt, but when you grow up in a firehouse, you almost always follow in your family’s footsteps.
So far, nothing interesting has happened. A few black ice accidents and ambo calls, but nothing that required more than one or two units to leave the house at a time. Within the first 6 hours, you have pulled a couple pranks and watched Frozen just to sing the adult parody of Let It Go for Cap and Tony. You had just turned in for a nap in Kelly’s quarters when the tones went off.
“Truck 81, Squad 3, Engine 51, Ambo 61, Battalion 25. Warehouse fire at 6391 Daphne Drive.”
Kelly chuckled as you groaned, waiting for you to leave his quarters before running behind you. “Don’t worry kid. You can catch a few winks in the rig. I’ll have Cruz leave the truck running for you.” Kelly said, patting you on the shoulder and throwing you the extra bunker coat they leave out for you just incase.
“Thanks Sev.” You muttered, catching the coat in your arms before jumping into the rig behind Tony. You bundled up next to the window as Cruz sped behind Stella with the rest of the firehouse following behind. You tuned out the conversations happening around you and slipped in your headphones, turning the rest of your attention to the scenery.
Arriving at the scene, you took out your headphones as you listened to the rest of the guys chat. You were in the middle of nowhere. No smoke could be seen and no cars were in sight. It didn’t look like anyone has been out this way in a while.
“Well guys, get ready for anything. We will go in and do a sweep and then leave if it’s a false alarm.” Kelly said to the rest of the truck. “Princess, you stay put and stay warm. Keep an eye out.” Kelly said as the truck parked, turning around again to open his door and hop out.
Matt came and opened your door. “This shouldn’t take long. Stay here, okay?” Matt said, climbing up and placing his truck jacket on your lap.
You nodded and leaned your head back as you shoved your headphones back in. Music was your only choice seeing as you had no bars out this far. You were pretty surprised that the unit could be called out this far from the house, but you just went where you were told.
After about 30 minutes, you started getting an uneasy feeling. Everyone was inside and they should have been back by now. Using the limited training that squad has taught you, you jumped into the drivers seat to turn the rig off before going to the side compartment that held the spare gear. As you made your way to the compartment, you slipped and fell into a puddle that the engine melted, soaking your entire back and the back of your legs. You quickly shrugged it off and stood to grab your gear, more concerned about your family than how wet your clothes were or the faint ache in your head from it hitting the wet ground. If this was a gas leak or they were knocked out somehow, you needed to keep yourself safe and get inside to your family. Masking up outside the door, you shrugged on the spare bunker jacket and air tank before placing the mask over your head and walking in.
After walking through the first set of doors, you reached the second and opened the door to find a huge empty room. Looking around, you saw another door at the far edge of the room and cautiously walked towards it. As soon as you opened it, Kelly and Matt stumbled through.
“Oh my God. What happened?” You asked, grabbing onto Matt by the shoulders.
“The doors. It’s a trap. Go back and try that door!” Matt panted, exhausted from the exertion of trying to help Kelly pry open the door. The rest of the crew wandered back into the big room and followed you.
You pushed the door only to find it locked. “Matt.” You yelled, throwing your body into the door. “It won’t open!” You screamed, becoming frantic. You were all stuck in this big room. There was nothing but the people of firehouse 51 and you. The walls and floor were pure concrete and there was only a ventilation shaft on the top of the 20 foot ceiling. It had to lead to the outside because it was extremely cold.
“Hey hey hey. Breathe.” Kelly said, coming and grabbing you by the shoulders. “In and out.”
You have always had a fear of enclosed spaces. Recently, thanks to Dr. Charles, you found out that your mom locked you in a closest when she killed your dad. Matt found you later on during the day, thankful that it seemed that you were completely unaware of anything but that fact that you were tired, hungry, dirty, and scared. Though this room was much bigger, you were trapped once again.
You shook as Kelly handed you off to Matt. You cling to your brother as the rest of the group tried to figure a way out. “M-Matt. I’m s-so sorry.” You whimpered, burying your face into your brother’s chest.
Matt sighed and rubbed your back, swaying back and forth with you in his arms. “Hey now. None of that. You didn’t know.” Matt hummed, kissing the top of your head. “It’ll be fine. Once we are gone for long enough, someone will come looking. Until then, we are all here.” Matt whispered, opening his coat and pulling you in.
You were freezing. The bunker coat was decent at keeping the freezing air out, but unlike the rest of the house, you didn’t have on bunker pants or thick layers of clothing underneath the coat you were wearing. All you had on under the bunker coat was a pair of leggings and a long sleeved CFD shirt.
Kelly noticed you quacking in Matt’s arms and immediately took off his beanie, pulling it onto your head. “That’ll hold in some heat.” He said, standing closer to you and Matt to help provide some body heat.
“T-thanks.” You whispered, leaning back toward Kelly and pulling Matt along with you. Your panic jump started your shivering, and it didn’t seem to stop.
As you leaned back into Kelly, your wet hair made contact with his neck. “Jesus! Why are you wet?” Kelly asked, stepping back to grab your hair and wring out the water before tucking it into his beanie.
“I slipped. Fell I-into a p-puddle trying to s-s-save you g-guys.” You stuttered out, pulling yourself even closer to Matt.
“Wait. Let me get this straight.” Matt said, pulling you to arms length. “Under that coat you are soaking wet. In the middle of winter. And we are stuck in a freezing room.” Matt broke it down, looking between you and Kelly as he spoke.
You nodded. “Yep.” You replied, popping the p.
“Fuck.” Kelly muttered from behind you.
“Alright everyone. Listen up.” Boden yelled, catching everyone’s attention after he had a little time to think. “This was obviously a trap. We have no contact with the outside world, but dispatch led us here. Theoretically, someone should be coming to look for us pretty soon. It’s been about 45 minutes since we landed on scene and Kylie is still in the bullpen. So, everyone huddle up and stay warm until CPD arrives or whoever they send out for us.” Boden announced.
Everyone quickly huddled up, finding themselves in little groups that eventually morphed into everyone in the middle of the room. Matt, Kelly, Boden, Stella, Cruz, Violet, and Sylvie found themselves in the middle of the huddle with you straddling your brother’s lap in an attempt to get as close as possible. Matt and Cruz were sat back to back for support as you placed yourself practically in Matt’s coat for his body heat. Kelly and Stella shared a coat so that Kelly’s Jacket could be given to the paramedics since they only had on their winter coats. After another 30 minutes went by, they realized they had a bigger problem. You were quickly becoming hypothermic.
“M-matty. ‘M s-sleepy.” You slurred, burying your cold nose into your brother’s neck.
Matt and Kelly were instantly on high alert. You haven’t called Matt that in years. Not since you were at least 9. “Hey. I need you to stay awake. Okay? Stay with me.” Matt cooed, trying not to sound too desperate so that he wouldn’t scare you, but enough to keep you awake.
“Jus a quick n-nap. M’ head h-hurts.” You muttered, fumbling to get closer to your brother.
“No no no. Not yet. Just wait until we can get you out of here.” Matt said, pushing you slightly away as Kelly leaned over and checked your pulse.
“Matt, her pulse is slow.” Kelly whispered.
“Okay. Okay. Let me think.” Matt muttered, looking around.
Kelly was quicker. “Hang on. I have an idea. It’ll be a little awkward, but anything for her, right?” Kelly asked, looking Matt in the eyes.
Matt nodded. “Anything.”
Kelly moved quickly after that. He wrapped Stella up in her own bunker coat after taking yours. Kelly scooted as close to you as he could, hugging you from behind. Matt caught on quickly and hugged you close to his chest. Matt’s head was on one side of your head with Kelly on the other. The two bunker coats were pulled around your bodies. Everyone knew what was going on and was quick to huddle in, trying their best to create more body heat as you began slowly slipping in and out of consciousness.
After 2 hours in the 20 degree room, the Intelligence unit broke through the door. They had received some threatening messages the last few days against the CFD, but when they heard from Kylie that 51 went AWOL, they knew this had to be the work of whoever was making those threats. They moved as quickly as the could, bursting in just as you began to slip completely unconscious.
“5021 George. Missing are located. I repeat missing are located. One critical. Rolling the Ambo on sight. Close off all streets from here to Med.” Jay yells into his radio as he sees Kelly helping Matt get up with you limp in his arms.
Sylvie and Violet are already running for the ambo with Matt, Kelly, Stella, and Jay not far behind. You hang limp in your brother’s arms as he and Kelly call out to you, begging you to stay with them. Doors are held open and a path is quickly made to the ambo. Kelly helps Sylvie treat you as Violet speeds behind Jay, who is leading the escort for you to med.
“I’m barely getting a pulse. She isn’t protecting her airway. I have to intubate.” Sylvie yells, causing Violet to tell the same thing into her radio as Kelly grabs more trauma blankets and wraps you up in them. Once your intubated, Sylvie takes out her phone. “Mags. It’s Sylvie. I have Y/N Casey. She’s severely hypothermic. Not protecting her airway, weak pulse, temp of 94 and not rising with trauma blankets. You guys need to prep for her.” Sylvie instructed, letting Kelly take over bagging you so that she could check your airways. “She was soaking wet and possibly hit her head. We will need to cut off her clothes on arrival. Warm saline and blankets should do it once these clothes are off.” Sylvie replies to whatever Maggie was telling her. “ETA is 3 minutes” then she hangs up.
“Sylvie.” Matt pleas, looking at his girlfriend.
“We’ve got her Matt. Just a bit longer.” Sylvie placates, shooting him a small smile as she takes the bag back from Kelly.
Upon arrival to Med, Maggie and Conner throw the ambulance doors open and immediately help Sylvie and Kelly unload you. They quickly do as Brett previously instructed, running a few extra tests on you once the IV is placed, and then they leave Matt and Kelly alone with you.
“She’s gonna be alright man.” Kelly reassures, holding your hand on the opposite side of the bed that Matt is on. Kelly doesn’t look up, not able to bare the look of fear and guilt in Matt’s eyes.
“She should’ve stayed at the house. She’s old enough to be at the firehouse alone, plus Kylie was there and they could’ve just hung out.” Matt sighed, running a hand down his face. “She wouldn’t be in this situation if it wasn’t for me.” Matt sniffed, keeping hold of your hand.
Suddenly, you squeezed both your hands as your heart rate spiked and your eyes flew open. If it hadn’t have been for Kelly and Matt keeping your hands in theirs, you would have yanked your tube out.
“Sh Sh Sh. Sweetheart. It’s alright. Hang on.” Matt muttered, using a hand to pull your face to look toward him.
Kelly let go of your hand once Matt had your attention and met Maggie at the door. “She’s awake!” He exclaimed, catching the attention of Jay, Will, and Conner who were all talking behind the desk about what happened.
Conner ran in as Maggie silenced the machines. “She’s over breathing the tubes. Let me get that out. Hand on sweetie.” Conner soothed, pushing past Kelly and rushing to your side.
Maggie held a basin under your chin once Matt moved to the head of your bed. They all knew of your sensitive gag reflex, so this really wouldn’t be fun. “Deep breath.” Maggie instructed. Conner was quick to pull the tubing out and stepped back as you dry heaved over the basin Maggie held for you.
Will came up to Conner’s empty spot and rubbed your back as Maggie handed the basin to Matt so that he could get closer. “Breathe sweetheart. Just take some slow deep breaths.” Will coached, taking the cup of water from Kelly when you finally calmed down and held the straw for you to sip. “There you go. That’s it.” Will soothed, nodding at Matt to put the basin away.
Once you were calm, Jay, Will, Conner, and Maggie all filed out of the room. Jay promised to give the house an update as he walked away, kissing you on the cheek. Kelly and Matt settled on either side of you again, Matt moving into the bed with you.
“God. You scared the hell out of me.” Matt muttered, pulling you into his side.
“What even happened?” You asked, looking between the eyes of your scared godfather and brother.
“Well, we were trapped. You got stuck with us, but before coming in, you slipped and hit your head in a puddle. You were soaking wet and went hypothermic on us.” Kelly explained, rubbing his face and sitting back as he watched your reaction.
Your eyes went wide. “Holy shit.”
“Language.” Matt scolded lightly, using your favorite marvel character’s word against you.
You chuckled, snuggling into Matt. “Guess I’m not Elsa after all. The cold does bother me.” You joked, causing Matt and Kelly to laugh.
“Too soon.” Matt said, though he was still chuckling.
“Definitely too soon.” Kelly agreed. “I’m gonna go get Boden and Stella. They were raising hell trying to get in here earlier.” He said, getting up and kissing the top of your head. “I’m glad your okay. Love you princess.”
“Love you too Uncle Kelly.” You beamed, snuggling closer to your brother as you both watched him leave to gather the rest of your family.
“Engine 51, Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambulance 61, Battalion 25,” the alarm rings out, forcing Kelly and Dani to break apart and head towards the trucks. “Sounds serious,” she comments.
“Seriously fun,” Kelly quips. “Hey. You better bring that body of yours back in one piece, because I have got big plans for it tonight,” Dani tells him before heading to the truck, pulling her turnout pants on and climbing in the back of the truck with her jacket. “51, get me a water supply from the standpipe. Truck 81, Squad 3, I need search teams. Engine 37, get the hoses into the north stairwell. Ambulance 61, set up triage. Get ready, people. We're going to war,” Boden orders as everyone arrives and climbs out of their respective rigs. “Fire's on the 20th floor,” the building manager tells them as they walk in. “How many units on each floor, and where's your alarm panel?” Boden asks. “12. It's right over here,” the man led them over to it. “Mouch, you're on lobby control. Get the elevators down here,” Matt ordered. “You got it, Captain.”
   “Okay, fire is confined to 20 for now. We need to investigate the fire floor. Get to everybody trapped above it. I made at least four people signaling from their windows,” Boden tells the gathered firefighters. “We riding or walking?” Kelly asks. “Casey,” Boden turns to the captain.
“Mouch, what's happening?” Matt calls into the radio. “I have control of one, two, and four, but the number three car is stopped on the 18th floor, and I can't get it moving. Can we get a look inside of that elevator?” Mouch asks. “Number three? Right here,” the building manager shows them. “The car is empty, Mouch, but keep trying,” Matt tells him. “Copy. Okay, heat is interfering with the electronics,” Mouch calls out after a few moments. “That settles it. You're climbing. To all companies, we can't trust the elevators. Use the stairs only. Stage on 19. Truck 81, give me a primary search on 20. Squad 3, take 21. Engine 37 will attack the fire. Okay, let's go, let's go, let's go!” Boden orders. “I don't mean to be in your way, Chief. I'm just here 'cause Commissioner Grissom wants me to be,” Gorsch tells Boden who glares when he almost runs into the smaller man.
  “Extra air tanks get stashed on 19! We'll attack from the north stairs. Use the south stairs for evacuation. Hey, Chief, we're approaching the 20th floor,” Matt calls into his radio. “Go. Come on, come on, come on. Come on, Ritter, what's the hold up?” 37’s lieutenant yelled. “These threads are in bad shape, keep sticking,” the candidate tells him. “I thought I told you to clean the standpipe,” the lieutenant scolds. “I did, Lieutenant,” Ritter tells him. “Yeah, not with your hands, with a wire brush!” the lieutenant yells. “He used a brush. I saw him,” Herrmann speaks up. “All right, let me in there. I'll do it,” the lieutenant huffs “I got it. It's on,” Ritter tells him. “Well, then open the valve!” the lieutenant exclaims. “Hey, Paxson. Go easy on the kid. He's doing great,” Herrmann tries to defend the candidate. “Mind your business, Herrmann,” Paxson huffs, turning to the candidate. “Hey, put your mask on.”
  “Chief Boden!” Someone yells. “Halstead?” Boden turned, after hearing the familiar voice call out to him. “Where's the fire? What floor?” Jay asks. “20, why? What's up?” Boden counters. “My dad lives on 23. Dani doesn’t really have anything to do with him so she doesn’t know,” Jay tells him. “Casey, what's it looking like up there?” Chief calls into his walkie. “Hang on, Chief, we're almost in,” Matt tells him. “And we're hooked up. Let's do this!” Paxson yells, grabbing the door handle. “Hey, hold on, we haven't had a chance to-” Kelly is cut off by the door slamming open and the fire jumping out at them all. “Casey, the door!” Kelly yells. “Hey, Candidate. Hey, you're good,” Herrmann tells him, wiping his mask off. “Yeah. Fire's too advanced at 20, Chief. We can't get a foothold,” Matt yells. “Okay, new plan. Squad searches 21. Truck continues up to 22. Engine 37, get a hold of that fire floor,” Boden orders. “Copy that, Chief. Let's go.”
  “So you're not searching 20?” Gorsch asks. “You heard him. That hallway is fully engulfed. Where's your father?” Boden asks. “He lives in 23C,” Jay tells him. “Is he up there now?” Jay shakes his head, “I don't know, he's not answering.” He turns to the building manager. “Excuse me, have you seen Pat Halstead today?” he asks. “Sorry, I don't know him. There's over 500 residents in the tower,” the manager tells him. “Chief, my dad's got a heart condition,” Jay worries. “It's okay. We're working our primary search. 23 is next,” Boden tells him. “How can I help?” Jay asks. “Keep that doorway clear, would you?” Boden tells him. “Absolutely. Everybody back. Clear this door.”
  “Check every unit! Open every door! Fire department! Call Out!” Matt yells. “Go, join the group. Right this way,” Dani tells the people coming out of apartments. “Follow them, please. Stay low,” Otis told them. They worked efficiently to guide people to the stairwells. “Chief, we cleared 22. Halstead, and I are headed to 23,” Matt calls into the radio. “Copy that. Casey, I got Jay Halstead here. His father lives at 23C. He's not answering his phone. Take a look,” Boden tells him. “On our way. Let's go,” Matt looked at Dani and nodded. Dani frowned as she followed him up the stairs to the next floor. “Hey, Chief. We pulled three victims off of 21. I still got a few more doors to kick in. We'll send these down with Truck,” Kelly calls into his radio. “Okay, hey, my buddies Otis and Stella are gonna take you the rest of the way down, all right? Just do what he says,” Cruz tells the woman he had been helping. “You're not coming?” She asks. “I gotta get back inside. You'll be fine. I promise,” Cruz tells her. “Be careful,” she tells him before taking her dog and following after the other people. “Excuse me, ma'am. All right, everybody, follow me,” Otis calls out, taking the lead with Stella. “The stairwell is so smoky. Are you sure it's okay to be in here?” A woman asks. “It'll clear up once we're below the fire. Let's keep moving,” Otis assured her. “It's a long way down. Can't we take the elevator?” the same woman asked. “The elevators aren't safe. I can hold your baby if you want. Hey, buddy. Hey, little guy. You wanna come to Otis? Hey, come on. Let's go,” Otis offers, reaching out to take the child. “I can carry him. That's not the point,” the woman huffs.
   “Let's go. Folks, we gotta keep the entrance clear. I need you to wait across the street. Come on,” Jay yells over the crowd of people trying to push past him. “Let's get two more engine companies hooked up to hydrants in case we start to lose pressure. And move Truck 40 down to the corner. I want to leave a lane open for ambulances coming and going,” Boden orders. “Copy that, Chief,” someone responds. “Chief, we're inside 23C right now,” Matt radios as they sweep the apartment. “Dad! If you’re here, call out!” Dani yells. “Halstead,” Chief calls over Jay.  “Go ahead, Casey. What'd you find?” Boden asks. “Nothing. The apartment's empty. No sign of Mr. Halstead,” Matt reports when Dani shook her head, the apartment was clear. “Carry on, Casey,” Boden tells him. “That's good news, right?” Boden asks the detective. “Yeah, I guess so. Thanks, Chief.” Jay walks away from the fray and pulls out his phone. “Hey, man, they just made it to Dad's apartment. He's not there, you hear back from him?” Jay asks Will. “No. I just tried his cell again. Still nothing,” Will tells him. “Same. You think of anywhere else he might be?” Jay asks, “Well, the guy likes to stick to his routines. You know that. A walk in the morning, then home for lunch. He should be back by now,” Will tells him. “All right, well, I'm gonna keep an eye out. You just let me know if you hear from him. I'm guessing he'll call you first,” Jay tells him before hanging up. “You all right?” Goodwin asks Will as he tucks his phone away. “He'll turn up. Old man's a survivor,” he tells her. “If you want you can head over there and join your siblings,” Goodwin tells him. “No, but thanks. I'm good. Can do more here as they bring victims in.”
“All right. I want a secondary search of the last few floors. Make sure we found everyone that was trapped up there,” Boden calls out as Otis comes down with the group of civilians. “Okay, when you get outside, go across the street, check in with the paramedics, okay? Good work. Go outside,” Otis tells them but when he doesn’t see the mother and child he stops one of the others. “Hey. Where's the woman with the baby?” he asks. “She stepped aside to let faster people go by. I didn't see her after that,” the woman told him and he sighed. “Herrmann. The mom with the baby. Did you see her exit the stairwell?” he asks. “I thought they were up front with you,” Herrmann tells him. “We gotta go up and find them,” Otis sighs. “Right. Just let me swap out my air tank,” Herrmann tells him. “Otis, can you take a look at these controls?” Mouch asks. “I'm not on elevator duty, Mouch,” Otis huffs. “I know, but the number three car is still fritzing out. It was stuck on 18 for a while, then it went up to 24, and now it's stopped again,” Mouch tells him. “The mom. I told her we couldn't use the… God! Chief, do we have eyes inside the elevators?” Otis asks. “Camera's out.” Otis turns to Mouch. “Damn it. Okay, you go with Herrmann, I'm gonna work on the elevators, try a system reboot. If that mom took her baby onto the elevator they could be trapped,” Otis tells Boden. “All units above the fire floor, keep your eyes peeled. We are missing a woman and a young child. I want them found.”
 “Severide. I need to get up to 24 to check on that elevator. Can you guys finish out on this floor?” Matt asks. “Yeah, on it. Any word on the mom and her kid?” Matt shakes his head. “Boden's got companies searching from 19 on down, but no sign of them,” he sighs. “She came from 22, right? Halstead, you and Herrmann sweep that floor again just to be sure she didn't go back up for something. Mouch, come with me and we'll start a primary on 24,” Matt orders. “Herrmann. You're looking a little peaked. I mean, you sure you don't want to stop, take a breather?” Dani teases as they stop at the entrance to the 22nd floor. “Like hell. I could do 20 more flights… And still run circles around you,” Herrmann laughed. “No doubt,” Dani nudged him after she put her mask on. “Fire department, call out!” She yelled entering the floor.
“Hey! You hurt?” Matt asks the candidate clinging to the stairwell railing, who shook his head. “Hey buddy, you okay?” Mouch echoed. “Kay, he's locked up. Took a fireball to the face earlier. Probably shook him up. Get him back downstairs,” Matt ordered. “You sure, Casey?” Mouch asked. “Yeah. He's in the way. Get him out of here,” Matt tells him before heading onwards. “What's your name?” Mouch asked. The kid just shook like a leaf so Mouch leaned over to see his last name on this helmet. “All right. Come on, Ritter, let's go.” The candidate shook his head and clung to the railing tighter. “Hey! My captain just took off by himself 'cause of you. You get to your feet! Lives are at stake!” Mouch yells at him. “Engine 37, talk to me,” Chief called into the radio. “We're still working our way in, Chief. It's an inferno in here,” Paxson yelled. “Engine 62, put another line up on 20,” Boden ordered. “Copy that.”
“Any news?” Boden asks Jay as he comes back into the building. “Nobody's heard from him. I'm worried he's still inside somewhere. Come on, you must have seen this guy today. Pat Halstead. He's a crusty old pain in the ass. He never smiles. Loves to yell at people,” Jay tells the building manager. “Okay, yeah, yeah. I know the guy. I haven't seen him today,” the manager tells him. “Does he have any friends in the building?” Jay asks. “I see him sometimes pushing Mr. Strouse. He's in a wheelchair. Ronnie Strouse,” the manager rushes. “A guy in a wheelchair? What floor does he live on?” Jay asks. “Uh, 25C. Top floor,” the manager tells him. “That's where he went, for sure,” Jay tells Boden, going to step around the chief and head for the stairs. “Okay. Halstead. I can't have a cop get killed on my fireground. My men will handle it,” Boden stops him, grabbing his arm before he could get very far.
“Fire department, call out!” Matt yells as he searches the hallway. “Casey, what's your location?” Boden asks into the radio. “I'm on 24 looking for the number three car. We can't open the doors. There's no drop-key access,” Matt reports. “Okay. You make your way to unit 25C. Look for a wheelchair-bound resident,” Boden tells him. “Copy that, Chief,” Matt replies and walks further down the hallway, only to be almost blown back by fire erupting. “Chief, I've got fire coming up through a mechanical closet!” Matt reports. “On 24?” Boden asks. “Affirmative! Repeat! The fire has reached the 24th floor! The fire is traveling through the electrical shafts!”
Boden turns to the building manager now. “Is the wiring in this building original?” he asks. “Uh, no, we did a big renovation a while back. Upgraded all the old copper stuff with fiber optics,” the manager tells him. “That stuff's a lot thinner. It leaves gaps. You're supposed to seal those gaps off,” Boden tells him. “Hey, I don't own the place. If they cut corners, I don't know anything about it,” the manager tells him in return. “This is not good. The fire's traveling faster than we thought. To all companies… We are losing control of this thing. Wrap up your searches, retreat below the fire floor until we get another hose line in place,” Boden says into his walkie.
“Come on. Ritter, you heard the Chief. Time is running out,” Mouch tells the candidate, who shakes his head again. “Okay. Okay, Ritter. Here's the deal. I don't like to exert myself unless absolutely necessary, but you're not giving me a lot of options here. If you don't get to your feet…” Mouch trails off. “I'm not like him,” Ritter tells him. “What's that?” Mouch asks. “I'm not that tough. I can't do it. I'm not like him,” Ritter manages to tell him. “Like who?” Mouch asks him. “Uncle Anthony. I called him Superman when I was a kid. He fought fires like this. But my heart won't stop pounding,” Ritter tells him. “Hey. I'm scared too. Any sane person would be. Difference is, civilians panic. Firefighters react. And you are a firefighter. Now you get your ass off that ground and let's go,” Mouch tells him, offering him a hand up.
“All companies, be advised. The missing mother and baby have been… recovered. Continue secondary search for additional victims,” Boden’s voice crackles over the radio. “Hey, how's your air?” Dani asks Herrmann as they walk down a hallway. “I'm good. I got a new tank downstairs. Why, are you low?” he asks in return. Dani looks down at her gauge before nodding. “I, uh… I got a few minutes left,” she tells him. “All right. You know what, forget it. This floor is clear. Let's get below the fire,” he tells her. “Copy that,” she tells him. “Casey, what's your location?” Boden asks. “Just reached the 25th floor, Chief,” Matt tells him, before continuing further into the hallway. He opens the electrical maintenance door and sees sparks fly. “Chief, 25's going to hell now, too. I can't stay long,” he calls out. “Copy that, Casey. Do what you can,” Boden tells him. “Fire department! Call out!” He yells, entering the apartment.
“Over here! Help! He came to get me, but then he collapsed!” a man calls out. “I'm gonna get you both out of here. Chief, I got two victims on 25, Halstead’s father and his friend,” Matt reported. “Good call. What's their condition?” Chief asks. “They're both conscious and responsive, but Mr. Halstead's in rough shape. I need a hand,” Matt tells him. “I'll see who's close by. Any available firefighter to the 25th floor to assist Captain Casey,” Boden called into his walkie. “Hang in there, Pat!” Matt yells as he preps to carry and drag them to safety. He gets partially into the hallway before he has to stop and readjust. “Chief! Is anyone coming?” he asks. “Casey, we're here!” Mouch yells, coming with Ritter behind him. “Mouch, hurry! Take this one!” Matt gestures to Mr. Strouse. “Ready to hoist him up. Okay, stay low!” Mouch tells Ritter as they pick him up and Matt hoists Pat over his shoulder, carrying him out.
“Dad! Is he all right?” Jay asks, spotting them exiting the building. “He was above the fire floor. Swallowed a lot of smoke. Been in and out of consciousness,” Matt tells him. “Casey, thanks, man,” Jay tells him, patting him on the shoulder before looking up at the building, he had still yet to see his little sister in the fray, and tried not to worry, she knew what she was doing. He shook it off as the paramedics began to assess his dad. “Dad! Hey, this is my father. His name is Pat Halstead. He's 64 years old. Listen, he had bypass surgery a month ago. Dad, can you hear me?” he asks. “He looks hypoxic. Let's get him on oxygen,” one of them says. “We can do CO levels and EKG en route, rule out cardiac dysrhythmia,” the medic tells his partner. “I'm, I'm okay, Jay,” Pat Halstead wheezes out. “Dad, Ronnie looks like he's gonna be okay. You did good. You're damn lucky to be alive,” Jay tells him before they load him up. “Pat going to be alright?” Mr. Strouse asks. “They'll take good care of him,” Mouch assures the man before turning to the candidate. “All right, here we go. You just got your first save, pal,” he tells him. “If it wasn't for me freezing up, you would have got there sooner,” Ritter mumbles. “Hey, Ritter. You could spend your life on "ifs" in this job. Don't do it. You hear me?” Mouch tells him and Ritter nods.
“Empty,” Kelly calls as he leaves a room. “Same here,” Cruz tells him. “All right, Chief, Cruz and I are finished on 23. We're coming down now,” Kelly calls into the radio. “Help me!” A faint young voice echoes. “Whoa, whoa, hey, Severide. You hear that?” Cruz asks. “Fire department, call out!” Kelly yells. “Help me, please!” the young voice called. “Where are you?” Kelly yells. “20B!” Kelly looks at the door they were at, 23B. “20B? That's three floors down, that's the fire floor.” Cruz tells him. “Hey, kid, what's your name?” Kelly calls into a vent. “Josh! My mom isn't here and I can't get out!” the kid exclaims. “Josh! Stay right where you are! My name's Kelly. I'm coming down to get you!” The kid yells back okay and the two rescue squad members are on the move again. “Hey, Paxson! Paxson! We need to get in 20B! Can you take us there?” Kelly asked. “We're low on air!” Paxson yells. “I got a young boy trapped inside solo!” Kelly tells him.  “We'll get you in, but my guys need relief!” Paxson yells and they begin moving forward. “Hey Chief, Cruz and I are getting the victim on the fire floor, but 37 needs relief on this side line,” Kelly reports. “Herrmann and I are on 19, we'll be right there,” Dani tells him. “All right, we're gonna have to cut across to get to the attack stairwell. Come on,” Herrmann leads.
“Hey! Severide! She's alive!” Cruz yells after pointing out another victim. “All right, here. You take her down. I'll get the kid,” Kelly tells him. “Copy that, be careful!” Cruz tells his Lieutenant. “Hey, Josh, where are you? Josh!” Kelly calls out. “Over here!” Josh yells, coughing. “Hey, bud! Come on. Let me get you out of here.” The fire blazes in the doorway. “Hey. It's getting a little crazy out there, - but we'll get through it, okay?” Kelly reassures the kid. “Hey 37, we're coming out. You ready?” he asks. “Negative! We're pulling back! Stay where you are!” Paxson responds. “What does that mean?” Josh asks. “Don't worry. Help's coming. All right. Hang on a sec,” he tells the kid, going to investigate. “Hey 37, what's your ETA? It's getting a little stuffy in here,” he asks. “The fire is pushing us back! Come on!” Paxson huffs. “Cavalry's arrived. Sit tight, Kelly!” Dani yells as she and Herrmann take over from 37. “Hey, Herrmann, Halstead, I hate to complain, but I got a young boy here,” Kelly tells them. “This thing is a beast! We're coming as fast as we can!” Herrmann exclaims. “This isn't working. I'm gonna bail out,” Kelly tells them. “Kelly, don't do anything stupid! Second line is on its way!” Dani calls out, noticing her air tank warning alarm was beginning to go off.
“What are you gonna do? What's happening?” Josh asks Kelly. “I don't want to wait and see if they can get to us before the fire does. So we're gonna perform what's called a self-rescue. Don't worry. I've done this a bunch. And when we're all done, you'll have a hell of a story to tell your friends,” Kelly tells the kid before prepping the ropes. “All right, come here. Your job is to hold onto me. My job is to hold onto the rope. You got it?” he asks. “I hold onto you and don't let go,” Josh repeated. “No way,” he mutters as he looks out of the window. “Keep your eyes closed,” Kelly tells the kid as he finishes up securing things. “Hey, Halstead, Herrmann, get out of there. Meet me on 19,” Kelly calls into his radio. “One more minute, we got this. Hang on, Severide!” Herrmann calls out. “All right, buddy, it’s all good,” Kelly tells Josh as he begins his descent. “Oh, God,” the kid mutters. “Almost there,” Kelly tells him as he tries to kick in the window but it doesn’t break. “What's wrong?” Josh asks. “Nothing. Nothing, I'm just getting a tool to break the glass.” Kelly breaks the glass and kicks it clear so he can slide in. “Hey, hey. You okay?” he asks the kid. “Severide!” Capp calls as he busts in the door.
Dani could feel the effects caused by lack of oxygen beginning and let go of the hose, moving to try and remove her mask. She was unsuccessful and felt herself falling back before passing out. Herrmann turns to tell Dani to head back down and sees her down. “Mayday, mayday! Halstead is down! I need assistance on 20!” Herrmann calls out, removing her mask and placing his own on her face in the hopes that she hadn’t been down long. “Mayday, mayday!” Herrmann called out again. “Hey, what happened?” Kelly yelled as he got to them, Dani’s pass alarm blaring. “Listen. She ran out of air!” Herrmann tells him. “Come on!” Kelly grabs her by the straps and Herrmann does his best to keep the mask on her. “Okay, clear out! Give us some room! Come on!” Boden yells as he makes a path for his firefighters to carry the youngest Halstead sibling through. “Get her up,” Matt tells them, and the four carrying her lift her onto the stretcher and set her down. “I've got a pulse but she's not breathing. Bag her,” Brett tells Foster. “Got it,” the woman jumped into action. “Her air ran out and she just dropped,” Herrmann tells them. “Come on, Dani,” Kelly mutters as he steps back to allow for Foster to move in with the bag. “Start bagging her, please,” Foster tells Herrmann once she gets it into position. “You got it,” he nods.
“Lieutenant, cut her shirt so I can get the cardiac leads on her,” Foster orders. “Come on, Halstead,” Kelly’s voice wobbled, his eyes glued to her form. “Tube's in. Let's hang a Cyanokit on the way to Med,” Brett tells Foster. “All right, guys, let's get her in the rig,” Foster tells them. They load her up. “Boden, you've done the heavy lifting. I'll take it from here. Go check on your firefighter,” another battalion chief stepped up. “You're sure?” Boden asks. “Go.” Boden nods and turns back to his crew. “Severide, Herrmann. Stay with 61,” he orders. “Yeah come on, let's move,” Kelly says as he climbs up in the ambo. “Come on. Give them an escort,” Matt yells to the others. “I'll drive,” Foster tells Brett. “Thanks,” Brett nods before climbing in the back of the ambo and shutting the door.
“It's Dani… Halstead. She took in a lot of smoke,” Brett tells the emergency room nurses that were with Dr. Choi but chokes up a little. “She had a pulse but wasn't breathing. We intubated, hung a Cyanokit on the rig, her CO is at 40%...” Foster trails off. “Okay. We got her. Let's transfer on my count. One, two, three,” Choi calls out. “Thank you for taking over,” Brett tells Foster, still watching the trauma bay. “I get it. It's family,” Foster tells her, rubbing her shoulder. The rest of the house walks in, some hanging back as Matt goes to Kelly and places a hand on his shoulder. Kelly swallows before shrugging Matt off and turning to Herrmann. “How did you let this happen?” he asks the older man, his eyes watering. “Hey. Severide,” Matt tries to get him to back off. “Huh? You're supposed to have her back, Herrmann!” Kelly shouts. “She didn't tell me that her alarm went off,” Herrmann’s voice shuddered a little. “She was trying to save you.”
Blackbird Pilot recalls when his RSO ‘gave the birdie’ to a French Air Force Mirage III pilot (Then They lit their SR-71’s Afterburners and Outran him)
By Linda Sheffield Miller
Jun 11 2023
SHARE THIS ARTICLE
‘My RSO had given him “the bird” with his middle finger: I lit the afterburners and left that Mirage standing still. Two minutes later, we were crossing the Channel,’ Lt. Colonel William Burk Jr., former SR-71 Blackbird pilot.
The SR-71, unofficially known as the “Blackbird,” is a long-range, advanced, strategic reconnaissance aircraft developed from the Lockheed A-12 and YF-12A aircraft. The first flight of an SR-71 took place on Dec. 22, 1964, and the first SR-71 to enter service was delivered to the 4200th (later 9th) Strategic Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base, Calif., in January 1966. The US Air Force (USAF) retired its fleet of SR-71s on Jan. 26, 1990.
Throughout its nearly 24-year career, the SR-71 remained the world’s fastest and highest-flying operational aircraft. From 80,000 feet, it could survey 100,000 square miles of Earth’s surface per hour.
One of the most entertaining stories about flying the SR-71 comes from Lt. Colonel William Burk Jr., who shares about a particular mission he flew [according to SR-71 pilot Stormy Boudreaux, Tom Henichek was Burk’s RSO for that mission] over Lebanon back in 1982.
The story is featured in the book Skunk Works by Ben Rich and in the video in this post.
That time a French Mirage III unintentionally buzzed (and scared) a U-2 flying at 65,000ft during a mission aimed to monitor France’s nuclear facilities
Tumblr media
‘In the fall of ’82, I flew from Mildenhall on a mission over Lebanon in response to the Marine barracks bombing. President Reagan ordered photo coverage of all the terrorist basis in the region. The French refused to allow us overfly, so our mission profile was to refuel off the south coast of England, a Mach 3 cruise leg down the coast of Portugal and Spain, left turn through the Straits of Gibraltar, refuel in the Western Mediterranean, right turn into Lebanon and fly right down main street Beirut, exit along the southern Mediterranean with another refueling over Malta, supersonic back out the straits, and return to England. Because Syria had a Soviet SA-5 missile system just west of Damascus that we would be penetrating (we were unsure of Syria’s intentions in this conflict), we programmed to fly above 80,000 feet and at Mach 3 plus to be on the safe side, knowing that this advanced missile had the range and speed to nail us.
‘As we entered Lebanon’s airspace my Recon Systems Officer in the rear cockpit informed me that our defensive systems display showed we were being tracked by that SA-5. About 15 seconds later we got a warning of active guidance signals from the SA-5 site. We couldn’t tell whether there was an actual launch or the missile was still on the rails, but they were actively tracking us. We didn’t waste any time wondering, but climbed and pushed that throttle, and said a couple of “Hail Kellys.”
‘We completed our pass over Beirut and turned toward Malta, when I got a warning low-oil-pressure light on my right engine. Even though the engine was running fine I slowed down and lowered our altitude and made a direct line for England. We decided to cross France without clearance instead of going the roundabout way.
‘We made it almost across, when I looked out the left window and saw a French Mirage III sitting ten feet off my left wing. He came up on our frequency and asked us for our Diplomatic Clearance Number. I had no idea what he was talking about, so I told him to stand by. I ask my backseater, who said, “Don’t worry about it. I just gave it to him.” What he had given him was “the bird” with his middle finger: I lit the afterburners and left that Mirage standing still. Two minutes later, we were crossing the Channel.’
Lancebolt a Nomadic Dwarf fortress
ok currently in my DF50 Nomad (traveling through the world using dfhack to manipulate the fort site’s global min/max x/y coords) style experience I decided to send a bunch of Dwarves into the caverns to travel through them.
long effort post down below
uhh it ended up with the starting group getting mauled,
leaving them behind (taking the wagon and just literally leaving them behind) for a couple of human monster slayers and trekking it on the surface scooping visitors who wanted to explore the caverns,
traveled deep into the hilltop to start seeing the mounds (the dirt hole homes the dwarves live in) and decided to settle into testing if I could recruit the non-historical figure having citizens of the hilltop to my fort. Then uhh during the experiment to see if I could get more citizens I ended up gathering migrants and visitors from the treetops for a bit due to the original embark’s nanofort size and the trees growing lil to closely to the edge of the map causing visitors to show up in the tree branches.
Tumblr media
while everything was a bit chill 3 invasions hit one of them being some necromancer showing up to reanimate some horse and dip.  the zombie horse mostly fended off the human invasion army of 2 people while the goblin one went in to ask for a parley which also ended with them murdering the goblin snatchers that came along after I accepted the parley which may have broken the process of giving them stuff. any way the experiment proved that hist figs are required for friendly units to even petition otherwise you just get a bunch of friendly faces that just stand there. the invasions depleted the population of 50+ back down to 12 which led to me slow marching the group out of the hilltop after causing so many bodies many being the citizens dying from the zombie horse assault... oh yeah during all that I ended up picking up an undead elf who shown up during the goblin siege, and I sent a werebeast goblin off to conquer some site which may or may not spark one of the invaders, the werebeast goblin had never return so it’s consider a boon. during the trek out of the hilltop I spotted a tunnel system and decided to go back to the cavern fort trek plan again with a bit more folks(the number jump up to 30) and a bit more wiser on building a bunker for the dwarves to live in so they don’t get jump while waiting for the map to shift to the next location.
Tumblr media
art depicting what usually the small hole in the wall that stores a wagon.
the road arc of this session was interesting as I notice some interesting things on my travels like a burning pile of webs which led to learning that the roads intersect the gem cluster map events by paving a road through the gem cluster box and causing the game to activate the event on map load. I learn of this being the case when I spotted a demon in the middle of the road
Tumblr media
this cavy humanoid made of coral fought and killed a giant bat and was really interested in the crammed pack of people behind a sealed door. so after some thinking I botched a plan to just dig away and just unload the map when the group double back and assault the cavy coral beast, the undead elf from earlier pop the cavy’s head off their body with a pickaxe.
Tumblr media
so after that event I was starting to feel like I should find the next settlement to probably end the run, and realize the tunnels like placing zigzag roads for going diagonal which mostly for my nomad setup means I’m burning seasons to make a right or left turn for 2 spaces. after a while of following the tunnel roads I got a sudden death by old age and it was one of my human civilians dying at uhh 87? with the remaining humans being around 44, 50ish and 61. this being a wake-up call to see how far I am on the world map I stop and pop open the embark menu and charted down the trek path I took.
Tumblr media
so at this point I decided to just jump off the tunnels and just continue going west(still in the caverns) in hopes of finding a fort to hang out in.
during the off-road journey to the west I found a pack of ant people chilling, feeling hospitable I setup a mini tavern to rest and had the citizens entertain the group.
Tumblr media
... I forgot about the caged vampire dwarf stored in the wagon... uhh so weird side-story I think the vampire dwarf got founded when I notice their name was different when I was trying to nickname them.
Tumblr media
So Shem got persecuted by some religious baroness that pretty much been hated for their crusade which made me feel like Shem should get revenge... also only found out about Shem identity when they assisted in defending the fort during the invasion which is how I pinpointed which dwarf Shem was. So with a lil powers of dfhackery I summoned the baroness to the fort which I convict them to a crime they didn’t commit... as well as convicting Shem to a crime they confessed and had both of them lock up in cages, this was done during the hilltop arc and both of them were stored in the wagon ever since. the baroness later waste away from Dehydration while the vampire still alive just probably extremely thirsty. Any way this experience of playing somewhat vanilla dwarves... in an extremely entity modded world with Elephant-people having access to dragons and giant whales and other creatures.  Is pretty fun and has been scratching that adv mode itch I been getting since DF50 started with out it. though nomad style does give a refreshing different feel to DF that reminds me of the old advfort days. as eventful this fort is it also like the side fort to the one with a bunch of elephant people and a giraffe person.
Day 35/61 of the busy times
We have successfully arrived in surgery town. Things have been ... weird, is all I can say.
Dropping my partner off at the clinic wasn't entirely ideal. She's got a lot of medical anxiety and they kinda kicked us out rather unceremoniously at the end of visiting hours, despite my partner being obviously in tears. Also none of the nurses that were around at the time speak English - or at least they claimed not to, which I suspect is a fucking lie cause everyone around here has mandatory English classes for multiple years in school and if they paid any attention at all, SOMETHING should've stuck. At the very least they could attempt some combination of English, German and hands and feet rather than just going "Ich spreche doch kein Englisch!" in a tone implying that you just asked them to personally perform open-heart surgery blindfolded, and then not even slowing down when they try to communicate things in German. (I suspect if I had told the nurse that was the most brusque with my partner that she is a colossal cunt, she would have suddenly rediscovered that she does, in fact, speak some English, but I wasn't about to make things harder on my love.) (One Zoom call later my love seems to be doing okay, but I'm still concerned they'll declare her not fit for surgery after her panic attack earlier or something...)
On the other hand, we arrived at our hotel (after circling around it multiple times trying to find the parking lot, then finally realising that we have to cross an active construction site to get to it), only to find that the hotel in question has apparently somewhat miscalculated when it would be ... hm, how do I put this ... done??? A manager spoke to us and was like "You're here during our soft opening period, so your stay will be complementary". Like. What, even? I still feel like I'm either about to be scammed or about to be murdered cause, yeah, the place is a bit of a mess, but the room is fully functional and like, just, WHAT? I mean. Okay. Free hotel. I guess. Fine by me! God, this is bizarre. I guess if you don't hear from me after this, it was the murder option.
And now, we wait...
My friend @silenthillmutual tagged me to answer some fic writer's ask game questions, so without further ado...
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
17 as of right now.
2. What is your AO3 wordcount?
181,115
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Mostly Hylics, but I've dabbled in several different fandoms. I've also written for the band Ghost, Pathologic, Knock-Knock, created the Neverending Nightmares tag on AO3 which still only contains the 3 fics I wrote for it, and am currently writing an epic novel-length Dark Souls fanfic!
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1) Outcasts in an Overcast - 109
2) Dedusmuln Uncharted: The Hunt for the Paper Cup - 78
3) Molding A Legacy - 61
4) The Moon is Down - 60
5) Chaos Inverted - 51
Basically most of my Hylics fics lol 🌙 🎸🌯
5. Do you respond to comments?
I always try to respond to every comment I get since it's not often that I get any. There were a few that ended up slipping through the cracks of my memory, and to those I'm sorry since it now feels kinda weird to respond to a comment written years ago, but mostly if you see a comment that I haven't answered it most likely means I've already responded to the person on another social media site.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Definitely a tie between The Moon is Down and Chaos Inverted, but frankly that's to be expected since Gibby's such a doomed character. Out of all the blorbos I had to write Shakespearean levels of angst for it somehow ended up being the clay alien who's head looks like an orange and/or zoopals plate XD
7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Ironically it's a Pathologic fic I wrote two years ago called Like A Fire Melting Us Down. Basically a hurt/comfort fluff fic featuring Murky and Daniil bonding over both being autistic. It's probably the only fic I've written fic I've written that has a definitively happy ending, as in there's no room for darker speculation for the future or anything like that.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Thankfully no. If anyone out there doesn't like my fics they've done good not to harass me about it.
9. Do you write smut? If so, which kind?
No.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest crossover you’ve ever written?
The only crossovers I've written thus far both involve the game Knock-Knock; either the Lodger interacting with Thomas Smith from Neverending Nightmares or Daniil Dankovsky from Pathologic.
The latter comes from the fic Intruder, which I'm most proud of of all the crossovers I've done so far, yet I'm kinda surprised no one else has attempted this themselves or entertained the idea of my fic since Knock-Knock was what inspired Pathologic: The Marble Nest to begin with. I guess it's true that there are only 12 Western Knock-Knock fans left on the internet...
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Also thankful this hasn't happened yet.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but if anyone wants to please let me know. I'd be more than happy for my stories to cross language barriers!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
One time my fellow Hylics fic veteran bombcollar wrote a story called Dedusmuln's Dossier, which is all about Dedusmuln documenting all of the enemies in Hylics 2, and which I contributed two pieces of writing for The Hand of Moodbleen and Carassius! It's an awesome fic I recommend any Hylics fan check out, and I had some good fun thinking of what I wanted them to say about these two uniquely annoying enemies.
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
Goddammit I don't fucking know lmao. I don't take shipping as seriously as other people do. For now I'll say Burakhovsky for all the beautiful art I've seen for it, the Hylics crew being in a queerplatonic polycule and, just to throw an insane curve ball at everyone in the room, Siegmeyer/Domhnall ;-)
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I'm gonna finish 'em all one day. I will not leave my children to rot in the pits of Writer's Block Hell...
16. What are your writing strengths?
I've been told by many people that they tend to really love the way I write dialogue for each of the characters I work with, original or already created. I'm also a lover of environmental descriptions and am always trying to build upon and improve in that aspect into my works.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Probably fight scenes since I've had so little practice, and due to a lot of the books I read not really having that many. I'm hoping To The Accursed can help me improve on that front, since Dark Souls is so heavily combat-oriented.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I haven't gone farther than using singular words in other languages as of right now. That's something I'm definitely gonna need to step up on later down the line, particularly since there will be Dark Souls characters I'll be writing soon who will be speaking some sentences in Latin and Welsh respectively.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
The Swedish metal band Ghost! It was a story called For A Divine Cause which was about Papa Emeritus Primo realizing he suffers stage fright right before he's supposed to start touring for the first album, and thus summons his younger brother Terzo to help shape him up into being a good front man.
It's without question the worst of my fics from a writing and technical perspective, but it was the first one I ever wrote so that's kinda to be expected. I am pleasantly surprised it has so many kudos and bookmarks after all these years!
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
Honestly, I'm think I'm gonna have to make it a tie between Dedusmuln Uncharted and Chaos Inverted.
The first is the fic where I truly started getting more creative in my writing (and is my first full made podfic which I'm even more proud of!), while the latter was sooooo much fun to write and gave me the confidence to write novellas. The Hylics fandom has been so supportive of my work, and I thank you all for being the best fandom experience I've ever had <3
That was fun! I'll tag @bombcollar, @pinkiepiebones, and @brainshock-alpha for this one ✏️✨
