Gelebor only just finished evening rites when Chri'krib rushes in. All his Old Falmeri forgotten, he screeches, "Gelbor! Gelbor!" before resorting to his preferred language. Just as Chri'krib and the other Betrayed have learned Old Falmeri, so too has Gelebor learned their tongue. He hears the urgent skreeich of "Help!" and the clicking of either "Immense pain" or "Dying". In any case, Gelebor turns sharply, coos a soothing word when Chri'krib flinches, and asks, as best he can,

"What is happening?"

To this, Chri'krib grabs for Gelebor's arm and hisses an urgent, "Follow! Follow!" He does, out of the Inner Sanctum, the remains of the Chantry, down below. He does not adjust to the sudden dark as well as his fallen kin, and stumbles more than once over roots and debris. Chri'krib pauses, but only long enough for the Knight-Paladin to regain his bearings.

"Follow! Follow!" This time Chri'krib speaks in Old Falmeri. Gelebor channels his magicka for a candlelight, and follows with quick and certain steps.

He is led past Chaurus guardians who no longer regard him as a threat, the tamers who click in reassurance at him, past outcrops of tents and racks of drying snowberries, past fires and gatherings of Betrayed who chant "Gelbor! Gelbor!". Eventually a sound reaches Gelebor's ears. Short, screeching cries. It is this sound Chri'krib follows.

Finally, at the source of the screams, Chri'krib comes to a stop. As whoever inside gasps for breath, Gelebor can hear the humming chants of their Shaman. He can make out a few of her words: "Endure", "Path", "Fear not".

Chri'krib hunches, unable to go any further. "Help," he screeches, motioning to the tent. Words fail him, but Gelebor took a solemn oath before sun, sky, and divine. He would never turn away from a cry for help. He upholds his oath this day.

The air inside of the tent is thick. The Shaman moves about the tent, throwing dried mushrooms over a large fire as her attendants flick water over the flames. The result is a muggy, dizzying steam. Through the haze Gelebor finally sees the source of the cries. It's a female, lying on a makeshift bed of stone and scrap fabric, her belly swollen with child. To her right, a male crouches and strokes her belly; to her left, another female keeps her arms to the laboring Betrayed's back. Gelebor hums a soothing word as he approaches, finally understanding.

It is not an easy birth. Long has it been since Gelebor used his magicka for any healing, let alone assisting in the agony of childbirth. When all is done the Shaman is sung to hoarseness, her attendants kneeling by the final embers, the mother's left and right hands nearly asleep. The mother, exhausted, breathes faintly, clutching her newborn to a small exposed breast.

Gelebor cannot tell for the dimness and humid air, and the smell of the Shaman's herbs are surely playing with his mind, but what he sees in that quiet moment stays with him as he ascends for an exhausted, murmuring morning rite.

A flutter of eyelashes, where there should be none, as a newborn babe yawns and falls asleep in her mother's arms.

Coins of the Neath! This is only about half of the project I have planned, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to show off what I have so far.

Descriptions and explanations under the cut!

Top left is a First City Coin. Described in game as having a cedar on one side, and a circle of script around either a face in profile, a pair of eyes, or an image of the Bazaar on the other side. The script is a mix of proto-cuneiform, archaic Sumerian ideograms/pictograms, and symbols of my own design, and is intended to translate more-or-less to "The Masters approach/bind the King to divide the earth, to guard his prince's heart. The Bazaar's oath to see the sun is the foundation and the destiny". It's roughly the story of the First City's fall, and the Bazaar's quest. The face is based on some representations of Gilgamesh, as a reference to May.

Top right is Hinterland Scrip. In game it appears to be more the paper money kind of scrip, but I'm from a coal and steel industry city and go nuts for scrip coinage, so this was a little self indulgent. It's a 50¢ coin since one scrip is about equal to 50p in game. The naming of the fake company is mostly just me wanting to both include hinterland in the name, and not have to cram in "the great hellbound railway company" on such a small coin lmao. 1899 is a personal reference to when I unlocked the railway. The punch design is a reference to FB's logo.

Center is a rat shilling! Not uh, technically coins, but I wanted to draw a rat. They're described in game as a flat piece of metal, sometimes a button, with a rat face scratched into one side and a knot of tails scratched into the other. One side reads "valid until no longer valid", which I find absolutely hysterical. I tried to invoke a kind of rostygold color to this one, since that's what it reverts to when the rat market closes.

Middle right is a Justificande coin. They aren't described very much in game, just that they're seven sided and say "one day you will forgive" on the back. So I took a lot of artistic liberties with this one! The seven headed serpent and roses are both very common Iremi symbols, so it made sense to me that they'd be featured on their currency.

Bottom left is a Fourth City Echo. Described in game as having a familiar profile of a spire on one side, and hudum writing on the other. Talking to the Numismatrix gives you further info that the writing is a promise for repayment, and a warning against using any other currency. I had to translate this through two different translators in order to get traditional hudum script (they use Mongolian Cyrillic nowadays more commonly) so it may not be perfectly accurate, but from left to right it should read "One Echo. The Only Currency."

And then bottom right is an Amber Ha'Penny. They're described as being tiny, sticky, and stamped with the image of a chain. It's supposed to be the same image of a chain on both sides, one being broken and one being forged, but I decided to have the sides slightly vary to reflect that better.

Look familiar? Bounty Hunter and magic user turned Deity, Ko'jin. Later dubbed as the "Fierce Deity."

Other outfits are a wip. I was gonna wait until they were done but couldn't resist sharing what I was working on for a week.

Masterpost | Lineup | Ko-fi - More info under the cut! This one’s gonna be a pretty long one and the last half below will have the text on the image (coz tumblr’s probably gonna eat the quality) plus some notes sprinkled in.

Plus a look at the Moon Serpent, a common form Ko'jin takes. I'd like to think the Moon Serpent is more commonly known by his followers than the man himself. There are others he takes, like the Silver Wolf, but the dragon is the one most associated with him.

He's relatively unknown after the war before Skyloft's ascent, his image having been completely removed from history. The few traces of him by OOT/MM would be oral tradition, specifically through family members as bedtime stories and legends to tell. Stories about a curious serpent and a powerful artifact.

After the events of MM, the Moon Serpent becomes active again and the festivals dedicated to it return.

Ko’jin, Bounty hunter chosen by Goddess Farore.

“Ko’jin” is not his real name. Once a mortal becomes a god, they abandon their original name. He was never given a proper one again aside from nicknames by worshippers and other deities. Ko’jin is a nickname given to him by his future wife when they first met.

He wears facepaint which is mixed with magic to bolster strength and speed. And later he would get tattoos that did the same [seen later].

Before becoming a god he was a bounty hunter [and popular at that, often being the favorite of a neighboring town]. He would take commission to hunt down monsters many others refused to go near.

Ko’jin has a strong affinity for magic [he uses it practically every day] and often imbues the edges of his sword with darkness magic. Though, the element given to his sword can still vary depending on what or who he’s fighting.

His undersuit and white tunic are much more protective than the brass chainmail, which instead is used more for artistic liberty than function.

“Early Days Moon Serpent”

Ko’jin’s god form was often a dragon for the ease of guiding lost spirits to the afterlife [he’s a judgement god with a very strong connection to the dead and guiding those spirits became his secondary function].

[During the first war with Demise] Soldiers often saw this form as the “Spirit of Courage” and their protector. They worshipped him and gave him gifts in hopes that he’d watch over him [and guide them to a better afterlife if they were to fall in battle (that secondary function). He basically became a huge symbol for soldiers specifically and I feel like this would feed the “War God” title he was given way later on despite not actually being a War God.]

In many ancient artifacts [ones that could be found at least], the Moon Serpent would be as either a two-headed serpent or two separate beings with their horns crossed. [There’s going to be a lot of “two’s” with him. Two swords, two lives, etc. in depictions of him the two heads/bodies of the serpent would be called “the Body” and “the Spirit”. Later on he’s split into two to be sealed away in a similar theme. “Two lives” refers to the before and after his sealing as he loses his memory of his “past life” and becomes a new person (hence a different appearance). I can see Hylia having foresaw a lot of this tbh.]

Aight, a quick note for Trigun Volume 2, Chapter 1. Disclaimer: I'm not exactly a coin expert; I just got curious and hopped down the Google rabbit hole. But here's what I found.

This coin from the end of the chapter...

...is what's called a Morgan dollar or a Morgan silver dollar.

It's actually got a very unique design, as most of the eagles appearing on the backs of U.S. coins are either in a very different pose, or they have their feet spread wider and are far less concerned with anatomical accuracy.

Here's the front:

According to Wikipedia, the Morgan dollar was originally minted from 1878 to 1904, which would make it very fitting for Trigun's desert punk setting, since that point in time in the U.S. was the tail end of what we think of as the Wild Wild West. (It's actually recently been re-minted, but that's irrelevant to the discussion since Trigun was written well before any re-mints.)

So... the coins didn't come up in the '98 anime (as I doubt they intended to try and hash out everything with these twelve assassins at that time), and if they come up in Stampede, they're definitely Season 2 material. That means I, someone who is functionally a first-time reader of the Trigun manga, don't know all the details about the coins in the manga, such as whether everyone has the same type of coin or if each of the assassins has a different type of coin, or if Nightow even bothers to continue this particular plot device.

But I do know some of the imagery for this particular coin. (It's... not that complicated. I just wanted to sound dramatic.)

The front has an image of Lady Liberty (artist's rendition, not the statue in New York, which wouldn't become a thing and proceed to overwhelm U.S. imagery of Lady Liberty until this coin had been circulating for eight years), who of course represents liberty, and the back has a bald eagle, which I think we've impressed on the rest of the world enough for most people to know we use it as a symbol of freedom.

Freedom and liberty; not that different of concepts. Not that complicated.

But the coin in the manga panel is split. It's damaged beyond repair, no longer functional as legal tender and only really good as a novelty trinket or for melting down.

Which makes it a really interesting thing to give a man who's been caged in a cellar for 20 years and is forced into the service of any sort of master.

Medusa, the OG stonergirl 👁️🪨 Almost all of us are familiar with her legendary petrifying gaze. It is mentioned in the earliest records of Medusa and her monstrous gorgon family. What is also mentioned in ancient texts by 500 BC is that unlike her immortal family, Medusa was mortal as well as remarkably beautiful. The origin story of how she got her defensive power comes much later from the Roman poet Ovid during the turn of the common era. Yep, dude lived through the turnover from BC to now times. Ovid wrote that Neptune found Medusa in a temple to Minerva, goddess of war and intellect, and forced himself upon her. When Minerva found out, Neptune blamed Medusa for coming on to him. Because Medusa was a gorgon and not a fellow god like her uncle Neptune, Minerva chooses to punish Medusa by giving her a gorgon figure like her sisters, with snakes for hair. 🐍 As a result of the betrayal, Medusa’s gaze turns men to stone. Relatable to sexual assault survivors, Medusa has become a symbol of righteous rage for many feminists. We can understand Ovid’s version as a critique on power when we look at history and realize that he was in resistance to political corruption in ancient Rome.

Obviously, and sadly, this critique’s relevance to society both predated Ovid’s time and has followed into modernity. Ovid’s myth shaping also demonstrates how storytelling and art can shape historical and mythological memory in society, how concepts of divinity and the personas projected upon these divine forces in the form of gods are forged from human imagination in order to make sense of not just the workings of nature but of relationships within civilization.

An an artist I have taken my own liberties with the Medusa myth in self portraiture. Playing with the “stoning” powers of Medusa’s gaze, I’ve drawn a “stoner” tattoo on her wrist as she burns one down. This is also in acknowledgment to the Ovidian origin story in which Medusa is explained as an assault survivor with a nod to how cannabis has been a clinically proven medicine for PTSD in association to such experiences and yet remains often vilified similarly to Medusa.

I just need to get this off my chest, below contains cropped pics from the Paragons CN Spirit World profile intro thing just in case + me rambling and speculating about Spirit World related content:

(I apologize in advance if this isn't the easiest to read through, I've never really rambled here before.)

SO. If there's one world I keep looking forward to, it's Spirit World because there are just so many things that intrigue me. But other than the outfits and myths they seem to take inspiration for (which I may speak about some other time) each of the Paragons has a symbol attached to their intro profiles that relates to them in some way. Oddly enough, these symbols are missing from the JP and ENG versions of their profiles, and I can only wonder why.

Almost all the symbols have elements that are also present in their outfits/have meaning tied to themselves.

Here they are:

Lars' symbol, contains shapes that look like a rising sun + wings that tie into the jewelry he wears (very much related to Ancient Egypt)

Alkaid's is shaped like the head of a stag, with hornlike protrusions and most notably the star in the center that makes up the head shape.

Ayn's has flames (which are present around his body) and clawlike markings that tip-off to his wolf design (the design itself also does look a bit like a wolf head) There's also a Penrose triangle shape, but that's tied more closely to another version of himself...possibly for another time.

Clarence's contains feather-like shapes, dangly rectangular shapes with those circles behind it that are similar to the earrings he dons, but most importantly there's that serpent that snakes around into something of a figure 8. Infinity? He's frequently associated with the passage of time (wanting things moments to last forever, centuries of waiting etc)

But then there's Cael's, which initially stuck out to me as I was looking at these symbols because I could not pinpoint anything on his outfit or character that could possibly give me a hint as to what it was trying to show.

A circle with odd symbols and an X in the center?

Then I realized. Take a good look at this.

The Wheel of Fortune Tarot Card:

IT'S THE SAME THING. Albeit with some artistic liberties, but everything from the symbols on the outer side of the circle to the x shape is present.

So I immediately went to go check the meaning behind this card to see what this could mean. I'm no Tarot expert, so I will link the resources below so you can have a look for yourself:

UPRIGHT: Good luck, karma, life cycles, destiny, a turning point

REVERSED: Bad luck, resistance to change, breaking cycles (From here)

Now, I can only imagine what will happen in Spirit World because I don't really like to spoil myself ahead of time. But if Cael becomes a Love Interest at this stage of the story, the upright meaning of this card would apply, and it really does fit him.

What I'm worried about is the meaning if you read it reversed. I wonder what will happen in this world, and what it could mean for MC and Cael, as well as the others.

I typed this all in one go and I feel like I could articulate myself better but I got too excited. If anyone is interested in more of my thoughts I could try to whip out some more things I've been sitting on.

ooh augustines outfit post (or lack thereof) gave me the idea of the king wanting a portrait of him and his men (maybe they won a battle recently, maybe just for funsies who knows) and in discussions of the work and various symbolism that the commissioned painter could work with, the jester is just standing over the painters bed each night trying to whisper "nudity as a symbol for bravery! the kings men don't need armor to be strong..." so he can project it into his subconscious lmao

Though Jester would also be so bold as to just say it to the artists face “While I am not an artist myself and would never dare to presume to know better, might I suggest that nudity may better construe valor and bravery. That our brave knights do not even need to hide behind armor? I think the king would find it a very bold and worthy artistic liberty. And as one of his most entrusted advisors I think I know what I’m talking about. That’s just a suggestion though.” *cheeky smile*

this ended up being one of those drawings that i got stuck hating something about it and it took me foreverr to finish lmao. i had to choose between staying true to the descriptions in htn and.... a good looking drawing lol so some things are a bit untrue but ya know. artistic liberties

the Hierophant represents order in regard to formal institutions and oversees the enforcement or establishment of rules and regulations. specifically what comes to mind when thinking of the Hierophant and tlt is religious fervor, and who else would fit the bill if not Mercymorn? tbh i think Harrow could fight for the Hierophant card but i have some Plans for her later on a different figure... :) Mercymorn created the Eighth House and is just generally insufferable LOL so i think it fits. also, the Hierophant reversed can symbolize snobbishness and well... i think we all know how well that fits

on my next card i'm going to try for a different card format, something other than the border i have now bc i feel like its a bit too much and doesn't leave me a lot of room as far as color palettes. anyways the next card is the Lovers and i'm very excited for that one hehe

Intoduction to C,honny jash 🔥🔥🔥 (no way fire... like from *gets shot)

CLAPS HANDS TOGETHER OKAY. OKAY. so chonny jash is this really cool singer guy song cover man on YouTube he makes some really good goddamn music and if you like tally hall, will wood, lemon demon (all other alternative/indie music creators and bands) then you MIGHT like him.

I think his most popular work/the work that gets most people invested into his music in the first place would be his album CCCC (chonny’s charming chaos compendium) which is a cover album consisting of songs that were originally from tally hall before jash took the lyrics and the music and like. Molded it to fit his ocs. That’s the best way I can describe it.

The three main characters of this album would be Heart, Mind, and Soul, and people (including me) GO ABSOLUTELY NUTS OVER THEM jash’s writing and singing and like general music skills are so good if you want to get into this album I’d seriously consider checking out his mind electric video first (the twelve minute one, it has 3 songs in total and they all do a pretty good job of introducing all three characters respectively).

Not only is the music like REALLY FUCKING GOOD the entire. Differentiation between sepereate characters based off of jash's artistic skills thing + motifs/symbolism for each one is extremely well thought out and the relationships between the three of these guys are CRAZY and TOXIC and RIVETING and bottom line SUPER GODDAMN RELATABLE to the vast majority of those in his audience. I would definitely recommend it if you enjoy concept albums/piecing together a story based off of several songs for me it was certainly an arduous process but BOY was it rewarding.

The lore/message itself is mostly up to listener interpretation but I personally like to think of that album as being centered around how valuable self acceptance is, how important communication and understanding and empathy is in a relationship, learning to break free from the bars that society cages one within, and just general dealings/causations of psychological turmoil. I think that what I like the MOST about CCCC tho is how lax/free you can be with your interpretations. it allows a LOT of space for creative liberty and overall message variation, and I like that. I like that very much.

OH and if you enjoy witty lyricism/enjoy having a bunch of allusions that you can rabbit-hole yourself into then you’ll probably like chonny jash . His stuff is like a puzzle but in video/music form. Anyway chonny jash changed my life I think everybody should listen to and look at the lyrics of one of his songs at least once in their life this shit is so good

AND . AND TRIGUN. TRIGUN ISN’T A VIDEO GAME it’S a space western anime. Well OKAY it was originally a manga from the 90s that got adapted into an anime in the late 90s and then ANOTHER newer anime in 2023 so it’s actually just a broad term for these 3 pieces of media .

This is very general btw and while all adaptations go about it in different ways all of them center around the same plot; humans completely NERFED earth so they sent out these ships in order to find another habitable planet, and this mission is called “project seeds”. Aboard these ships are a bunch of humans put into cold sleep but OBVIOUSLY they can’t survive without resources, so alongside the cold sleep people are these human-made organisms called “Plants” who produce the necessities + more that humans need to survive.

Still with me? Ok So everything’s all fine and dandy, but then suddenly due to an event that I cannot disclose because of spoiler related reasons these ships CRASH on a deserted sandy desolate planet, and the remaining humans are then forced to survive solely off of the remaining plants (since all the technology from the spacefaring age was lost in the crash).

Now that the worldbuilding stuff’s outta the way, the main character is this dude named Vash the Stampede who is constantly being chased and hunted down because of this CRAZY bounty he’s got on his head and this is where . The main themes of Trigun start to shine through. It’s about morality and the lives of other people, about the cycles of abuse that lead to why people do certain things and it dives quite deep into the psychological and philosophical aspects ESPECIALLY since this is like a “kill or be killed” world and the main character ALWAYS chooses NOT to kill, no matter what.

I started out with watching the newest adaptation (Trigun stampede) but there’s no right or wrong order to consume the three medias, so start with whichever one you’d like ,,,, assuming you do want to start watching it, anyway.

Judging from what little i know about ur interests, I think trigun would be more up your alley BUT ALSO chonny jash is so good ESPECIALLY CCCC AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU ENJOY A SMALLER AMOUNT OF CHARACTERS COUGH COUGH COUGH but it's ultimately up to you, this is all assuming you'd wanna delve into anything in the first place. anyway yeah rant over . 👍

Mei has this tattoo parlour in one of the more quieter streets of New Yan and Jia knows her vaguely prior to The Fire™ bc it's like maybe 20 mins away from her apartment and she was doing her spider girl things and beating crime. EITHER WAY she knows abt it.

I was thinking abt what her personality was like and then at one point I was like 🧍🧍I feel like I'm just ripping off hb's and watering it down ARGH cause what I was thinking is that Mei's someone who's clear in what beliefs she has. For a source material that speaks most largely on exploring strange NEW worlds, to SEEK out NEW life and NEW civilisations, to boldly go where no one has gone before... (though nothing is really new...) ... yall are just so nuzzled up and comfy over here in this hive echo-chamber you call a "fandom" because you can so easily and comfortably pervert the principle of differences and diversities in Star Trek so that you can surf the dunes of your own politicised, discriminatory, prejudiced, distorted delusional sandbox of what "freedom of speech" and "freedom of identity" and "liberty itself" (whatever tf THAT means lol) and what fake twitter/tumblr-sjw and chronically online "woke culture" look, sound, and feel like, gone most greatly uncontested because as soon as one person says or people say something, then they risk outting themselves for the same sh1t they pull in this "community", which would ultimately lead them to lose this sickening "freedom" that they cultivated for decades to say and be the sh1ttiest in a homogenised sh1tty social environment where they won't ever be conspicuous or scorned; to blend right in (worsening over time).
