House Stark of King’s Landing
Formed after the final battle of the War of the Five King’s, the Battle of Liberation. After days of deliberation, Sansa Stark was declared Queen due to her blood ties and friendships that she had developed over the course of the War of the Five Kings. House Stark’s colors are Grey and Red (coming from Sansa Stark’s personal epithet ‘The Red Wolf’) Their House words are “We Endure”. House Stark’s blazon is a Red Direwolf on a Grey background.
Queen Sansa Stark/Prince Edric Dayne
Hand- Ser Brienne of Tarth
Master of Law- Lady Anya Waynwood
Master of Coin- Lord Willas Tyrell
Master of Ship- Lord Rodrik Harlaw
Master of Whispers- Prince Doran Martell
Kingsguard
Lord Commander Brynden “The Blackfish” Tully- vowed to protect her due to failing to protect her brother and mother.
Ser Oliver Frey- Her brother King Robb’s former Squire.
Ser Gendry of Hollow Hill- Her sister’s friend.
Ser Wallace Waynwood- A friend she made from her time in the Vale.
Ser Rolland Storm- A recommendation from her future good sister.
Ser Balon Swann- a carry over from the previous Kingsguard as to ease transitions
Ser Harrison Karstark- Took the white to clear the way for his sister Alys of Thenn to take the Ladyship of Karhold.
North- Prince Bran Stark/Lady Meera Reed
The North voted for Sansa because she is the sister of Bran, Arya and Rickon, and the daughter of Ned Stark
Riverlands- Prince Edmure Tully/Lady Roslin Frey
The Lords of the Riverlands voted for Sansa because she is Edmure ’s niece, and daughter to Catelyn Tully.
Vale- Prince Robyn Arryn
The Lords of the Vale voted for Sansa because she is Robyn’s cousin and helped solve the murder of their liege lord Jon Arryn and bring his murderer to Justice.
Westerlands- Princess Myrcella Lannister/Prince Trystane Martell
The Westerlands voted for Sansa because she was Myrcella’s aunt through marriage, her friendship with Myrcella from their time in King's Landing and promised to legitimize Myrcella and name her Lady of Casterly Rock.
Reach- Prince Willas Tyrell & Lady Talla Tarly
Lord Willas voted for Sansa due to the friendship between Sansa and Margaery and out of guilt for her being framed for Murder by Olenna Tyrell.
Stormlands- Princess Shireen Baratheon & Prince Rickon Stark
Shireen Baratheon voted for Sansa because she is sister to Rickon, and due to the numerous ties between House Stark and Baratheon including but not limited to the friendship between Mya Stone and Sansa herself, Ser Gendry of Hollow Hill and Arya, Ned Sansa’s father and King Robert, and the grudging respect between Jon Snow and Stannis Shireen’s father
Dorne- Princess Arianne Martell
Princess Arianne was hesitant to vote for Sansa but relented when she revealed she accepted Lord Edric Dayne’s offer of marriage. Having a Dornish Prince Consort on the Iron Throne, one from House Dayne who have strong ties to House Martell, assuaged some of Arianne’s doubt’s and allowed her to go back to Dorne to mourn the loss of her husband King Aegon VI Targaryen. Princess Arianne declined a advisory position on the small council.
Iron Islands- Princess Asha Greyjoy
Did not vote for Sansa but was outvoted. Only conceded it because Sansa agreed to make sure that her rulership over the Iron Islands was uncontested.

the main female character arya admires in the books is nymeria of ny sar. the first time she is mentioned is in arya's thoughts and it directly refers to how she "led her people". she was a leader before anything else. when valryia approached her city nymeria began a long, dangerous journey to safety. it was challenging but she stayed the course. when she arrived in westeros mors martell fell in love with her bc of her strength of character. she became the princess of dorne and lady of sunspear. she burned her ships so that none could turn back. she commanded armies, united dorne, and sent kings to the wall in chains. she put down rebellions and fought off invasions. nymeria ruled dorne for nearly 3 decades and continued to do so long after mors died - in her own right. she married two more times and had several children. she was "strong willed and indomitable".
nymeria is hardly a figure who represents indifference towards politics or prioritizing personal freedom over duty. things arya is frequently accused of representing herself. nymeria bore more responsibility than just about any other female character in the entire asoiaf historical canon. she didn't just bend to westeros' ideals either. when she married mors they combined their sigils and names; joining the sun and the spear. her eldest daughter ruled after her as was the custom of the rhoynar. she fought to secure her position and changed the culture. as arianne puts it: "she burned as bright as any man"
that is why she is arya's role model
she named her direwolf, the extension of her soul, after nymeria for a reason. arya takes nymeria as one of her own alias in harrenhal. she uses it again while creating her backstory as cat of the canals. this is not a meaningless connection. nymeria's story has been relevant to arya's from the very beginning. arya is forced to endure a difficult journey just like her hero. arya values her people and assumes responsibility for them bc "the pack survives". arya is willful and determined. even her wolf reflects her namesake as she has united all the wolves of the riverlands into a gigantic pack.
too often arya is interpreted as a character who wants to be free of responsibility above all else. she does not. both nymerias are proof of that. neither is a lone wolf. arya doesnt want to conform to the bogus ideal of being ladylike, but that doesnt mean she is an outlier who needs to be removed from the equation. nymeria of ny sar wasn't. arya can achieve an equal standing to the men in her realm. she can forge a new path for women in the north like nymeria did in dorne. at least she can try. but only if she stays and fights for it.

"There is much enmity between our Houses, due in no small part to my father's decisions, and mine own besides. But I'd like to repair that, my lord, and the start of such reparations is with a marriage." Rhaegar turned from Lyanna's statue to face him, the sadness in his indigo eyes melted to seriousness. "Rhaenys is wed to Willas Tyrell and Aegon is betrothed to Arianne Martell, but my Aemon has not been given a hand yet. I find it prudent he marry a Stark. Your eldest daughter, mayhaps?"
Sansa. Aemon was not the heir to the Throne, but Ned couldn't deny that such a marriage would be advantageous for her. She would thrive in the south, and he had heard talk of the ruins of Summerhall being deep in its repair journey. Yet...
"I have seen him interact with the girls, when we all went riding," Ned began with hesitance. "He has taken more of a liking to Arya. In the time he's spent here, they have done everything together."
"Ah, Arya." The king's laughter held more a reminiscent sorrow than true laughter. "That one opens her mouth and all I hear is Lya." He shook his head. "No...no, I think it best he marry your other daughter, Lord Stark."
That boy has a mind of his own, Ned thought. He hadn't seen his nephew since he left the tower of joy, but now it was easy to see how much he took after Lyanna, so wilful and stubborn. Arya has but a touch of wolf's blood, but him...
History may very well repeat itself, and then what?

What has always been true is that the Arya/Lyanna parallels work both ways. It’s extremely meaningful to Lyanna to be paralleled with Arya in order to shed light on Lyanna’s inner world, in preparation for the reveal of a long held secret.
How it works is like this: because Arya defends Mycah against Joffrey, we can understand Lyanna’s defense of Howland. Because Arya never once strays from wanting justice for her brutally murdered friend, we can imagine what drove Lyanna to masquerade as the Knight of the Laughing Tree. And because Arya doesn’t think twice about any of this, we can understand Lyanna's convictions.
Because Arya loves exploring and discovering new plants she’s never seen before, because she brings flowers to Ned out of love, we can understand Lyanna being "fond of flowers" as part of a curious and affectionate nature.
Because Arya is never impressed with Joffrey, we can understand Lyanna's immediate assessment of Robert. Because her siblings react to news of Arya's betrothals to unsuitable partners with "Arya won't like that one bit" & "she never will, not Arya" & "[i]f he tries to lay a hand on her, she'll fight him," we can understand the gulf that opened between Lyanna and her family after her betrothal. Because amiable Elmar Frey looked down on Nan the serving girl and Arya resented him for it, we can see Lyanna judging Robert based on how he treats Mya/Mya's mother.
Because Bran thinks Arya "wasn't scared to get dirty, and she could run and fight and throw as good as a boy," because he first assumes Lyanna & Benjen fighting are him & Arya, we can imagine Lyanna & Benjen's relationship.
Because Arya is wolf-blooded and we see that written out, we can understand Lyanna as well.
That isn't to say it isn't meaningful to Arya, having Lyanna scattered through her story. Arya's complex relationship with mentor figures is a post to itself, but in brief: legacies are passed down by people, to people, who then use them as a starting/turning point. Daenerys Targaryen understands the duality of her family's legacy through the fragments of Viserys as her brother, king, and abuser; when he dies, she is the last, and she births dragons. Jon Snow is groomed for command in the Night's Watch just like his uncle and ancestors before him, charged with protecting his homeland in the shadow of an eight thousand year old Stark dynasty. Tyrion is Tywin writ small. The last greenseer waited generations just to haunt Brandon Stark's dreams.
Arya doesn't have that. She has a direwolf, she's a warg, and she has the North in her face. Wolf child, blood child; scattered yet meaningful pieces of a puzzle. By connecting her to Lyanna who came before her, it's a lineage. It's no longer an accident. Arya isn't Lyanna any more than Daenerys is Aegon the Conqueror, or Jon Snow is any of his predecessors, or Tyrion is Tywin, or Bran is Bloodraven, or Edric Dayne is Arthur, or Arianne is Nymeria. These parallels to (pre-series) characters represent a benchmark to be surpassed, whether or not the characters realize it themselves, and in Arya's case is no less.
Intentional parallels like this ask us: what if you were part of something - maybe even the culmination of something - that's been brewing for a very long while now? What if who & what you are is so important, so necessary, that time would fold in on itself for you?

do u remember the characters who were complimented the most by their beauty in the books?
off the top of my head (and keeping in mind i’m still on asos and haven’t reread feastdance at least since the show ended so like 3-4 years) characters who get complimented most often for beauty are -
cersei
sansa
dany
margaery
jaime (not joking, he doesn’t get called handsome, he gets called beautiful. think more brad pitt and less george clooney)
joffrey (similar to jaime, altho tbf most of the comments on his beauty come from sansa)
loras
characters who are less complimented mostly due to them not being in every book but still notable beauties include-
arianne
catelyn & lysa - i’m like 80% sure people comment on lysa being beautiful when she’s younger & less so now, but don’t quote me there. i know people comment on cat being hot af when she’s younger, and multiple people remark on her hair so she clearly still Has It, she’s just not in a position where men are throwing themselves at her feet in the series given, ya kno, the war
melisandre
roslin frey
margaery’s lady’s court - her girls, taena, and alerie are all described at some point or another as being beautiful
taena of myr - wanted to mention her specifically, people tend to think of her as striking
val the wildling
ygritte the wildling - notable that this is incredibly conditional bc jon only starts referring to her as beautiful after they start sleeping together BUT the wildlings consider her beautiful bc of her hair
rohanne webber
characters noted to be beautiful by people who are clearly fishing for a compliment to pay her (aka, She Is Beautiful To Me, I Understand Her)-
jeyne westerling - i want to add her bc you have cat, robb, and jaime all acknowledge she’s “pretty enough” but are won over by her after talking to her, which probably speaks more to how she carries herself than her actual looks. but as a westerling stan, it’s notable To Me haha
brienne - i need to include this bc the “she could almost be a lady she could almost be a knight” is one of my favorite lines in the series, it makes me crazy and i think any post about beauty that doesn’t include brienne isn’t complete. that brienne gets the “brienne the beauty” moniker bc she’s ugly even as jaime keeps thinking about how she’s beautiful in some way or another is, imo, notable in how george sees & defines beauty (very much in the eye of the beholder, and that love can make you search for beauty in someone who is objectively not beautiful according to The Societal Standards)
arya - ned compares her to lyanna (and obviously ned isn’t gonna tell his daughter “you’re an uggo my sister was hot as fuck tho”) & gendry & edric both get a lil flustered over her
ellaria sand - noted that she’s not strictly beautiful but “something draws the eye” which seems like jeyne it’s about how she carries herself than her actual looks
jeyne poole - i mean. lots of comments about how she’s pretty ish and they’re clearly meant cruelly, almost as a way of tormenting her (no fancy last name, no wolf’s blood, not even pretty enough to get someone to rescue her)
pre-asoiaf mentioned in the main series for their beauty include-
lyanna stark
ashara dayne
missy blackwood
barba bracken
rhaegar targaryen
and pre-asoiaf characters noted to be beautiful in twoiaf or f&b-
rhaenys targaryen (the conqueror)
nymeria of ny sar
rhaena the lesbian
alyssa velaryon
jocelyn baratheon
viserra targaryen
rhaenys velaryon
rhaenyra targaryen - notable that she’s considered beautiful as a child but less so as an adult (bc westeros is full of fucking weirdos)
helaena targaryen - described as being more beautiful than alicent and that’s really it
daenaera velaryon - ditto on westeros being full of weirdos lol
jaehaera targaryen - again. she is like 12 when she dies but half the realm is commenting on this beautiful child. i hate these people so much.
baela targaryen
lady sam hightower
something that’s notable is that george makes a continued distinction between “pretty” and beautiful - alysanne targaryen is considered pretty but not beautiful, for example. so there’s people like jeyne westerling who are “pretty enough” as in, not ugly, not plain, but not, as jaime puts it “beautiful enough to lose a kingdom over” as in they are drop dead, model, helen of troy type gorgeous.
that’s also why i wanted to include the “fishing for compliments” type girls bc these women are very aware that they’re not pretty enough and often wind up carrying themselves differently as a response to this - if they can’t be gorgeous they’ll be so disarming, so striking, that people will spin back around to beautiful. ygritte is the biggest example of this imo because how jon perceives her beauty is very tied to how his relationship with her develops - he purposefully conflates her beauty with her violence bc he wants to find her violence beautiful bc that would make his life infinitely easier, and after she dies he’s very clear headed that she isn’t that pretty but she is TO HIM, she is beautiful in his memory because of his feelings for her. it makes him very wary of melisandre & val as a result - because he conflates beauty and violence in ygritte, it makes him wary of other harsh & beautiful women. or take lyanna, who is remembered often as being beautiful yet in ned’s memory, this beauty is part of what dooms her and he is outwardly hostile whenever people mention her beauty - to ned, that beauty brought only horror so he doesn’t dwell on it.
there’s lots of commentary here on what “beautiful” actually means from person to person, so while i would say the first group are more objectively beautiful, it’s also important to think about context - who is thinking they’re beautiful, why they’re thinking this, and what their relationship is.

@burnnouts asked: “I didn’t anticipate how much strife my arrival would cause." (from Robb)
"The   knights   fear   you,   Your   Grace."   Myrcella   is   kind   enough   to   use   the   proper   titles,   despite   being   told   plenty   of   times   by   many   in   her   family   that   Robb   Stark   has   no   right   to   a   throne.   He   was   chosen   king   and   she   will   respect   that.   "I'm   sure   you   heard   the   tales.   How   you   turn   into   a   wolf   at   night.   And   your   direwolf   eats   your   enemies   bones."   Eyes   fly   shortly   to   the   direwolf   by   his   side.   Mere   pup   the   last   time   she   saw   him   back   in   Winterfell   when   she   was   but   a   child   herself,   now   fully   grown,   or   perhaps   still   growing   and   she   wonders   if   he   was   big   enough   to   be   ridden   like   a   horse.   "Many   fear   what   you   will   do   to   them.   It's   only   fair,   in   war,   I   suppose."
A   small   shrug   before   eyes   look   back   at   the   man,   once   a   childhood   crush,   he   was   no   longer   that   sweet   boy   that   danced   with   her.   War   made   him   a   man,   Dorne   made   her   a   woman   and   they   were   on   opposite   ends   of   a   war.   "Dornish   spears   are   here   to   defend   me,   Your   Grace.   Princess   Arianne   wishes   for   me   to   sit   on   the   throne,   but   you   have   arrived   before   I   could   decided   if   the   crown   fits."   Myrcella   speaks   in   truth,   she   is   not   in   shackles,   but   in   a   way,   she   is   already   bargaining   in   politics.   "Would   that   upset   you?   Would   you   have   your   wolf   eat   my   head?"

Care to tell some facts about the ROs?
Ofc^^
Naira/Namid
They were born and raised to a very secluded pack. When N was 17-18, they started sneaking out to the city.
N is a bit of a troublemaker lol.
But good vibes only.
They were engaged for a while when they were in their 20s.
Worst mistake of their life. But it did get N kicked out of their pack.
N was hired personally by Arion/Arianne. It's pretty rare to find a lone wolf in the wild (heh) and without a pack. And... yeah alive period.
Val
How they became a vampire? No one knows. Val surely isn't explaining.
They're very closed off and hardly have any friends.
Val lives with a few other vampires. One or two of them are probably to blame for killing one or two humans.
Which is illegal. But yeah Val bailed them out lol
They used to be a lawyer many years ago.
Val also studied History, which is their true passion. Their memory is scarily accurate.
Maureen/Marius
M brings a tired mom/dad energy to the office that everyone loves and, like, same dude (gn).
They've been working for the rights of the undead for a long time. And they've been retired from being a Reaper for even longer.
If Val is private and mysterious, M is a whole ass enigma.
They prefer to listen and rarely talk about themself.
Out of everyone in the office, they're the closest with Devan. They work well together.
Devan
Devan likes to say that they got the job because someone said they couldn't, and they just wanted to prove them wrong.
Which is probably a lie.
Because of some spoilery historic events, Devan was practically kicked out of Japan. Let's just say it was warranted.
They love getting on everyone's nerves, pushing their buttons and slacking off. Devan brings a chaotic energy that everyone hates smh.
But A can't bring themself to fire them. Devan is really good at their job.
They're very charismatic, amazing at debates and motivating people through their speeches.
Devan's talent is so effortless lol they don't realize half of the time.
Leah/Lucian
L is one of the few sirens who has actually abandoned the sea. It's spoilery to say why but they hate it here lol
They really hate humans.
Probably will put a ‘Fuck Humans’ sticker on your laptop on your first day.
L only accepted the job offer because it benefited them. And they kinda needed one.
People tend to avoid them. Especially in the mornings. It takes at least four cups of coffee to wake them up.
They're usually quiet and dislike speaking up. But when they do, they're usually really crash/blunt.
Cyrus
Man (gn) everyone loves Cyrus. They're such a good guy/girl.
A bit overbearing and noisy but they're really kind. Good vibes, like N would say.
Zombies are probably the ones who have it worse in this society, and Cyrus loves loves helping their people.
They're probably the most passionate about the job.
Literally begged A (who hadn't considered zombies in the first place) to hire them.
Cyrus faintly remembers not being a Zombie. But they like to think that they've always been the same person.

Sansa has a crush on Jon and is so heartbroken to hear about his betrothal to Princess Heir Arianne Martell years later when they're older.... until the Stark family arrives in Dorne for the wedding and celebration. Arianne hugs her longer than expected and nuzzles her neck, mumbling about how she has been dying to meet the pretty Red Wolf Jon talks about. Sansa blushes so red, Arianne just strokes her face with one hand before pulling away, feeling Catelyns gaze on her and not wanting to get the girl in trouble. Jon has grown much since they last saw each other, and gives Sansa a kiss on the cheek a little closer to her mouth than needed.
ALL OF THIS!
dying to meet the pretty Red Wolf Jon talks about !!!
Sansa's eyes flutter as his mouth watering scent washes over her.
You know there is still talks of her engagement to Joffrey as well

Hi Esther, I sent you an ask about Byronic hero Jon, and I'm soooo lucky you interpreted the ask the way I sent it, because I know anons can come off the wrong way and I realise it sounds like I'm ranting at you when I'm nodding along with you!!! 😭 Yes I sent you that ask because it's what you were already saying first, and you're completely right grounding it in Mr. Rochester terms and also of course you do have the famous Heathcliff. But I do think GRRM is doing his own thing with it, and to be honest the more I think about it, the more I wonder how it influences Jon's ending (or not). If anything Mr. Rochester's secret wife is more of a Rhaegar thing which Jon has to wrestle with, so I definitely think there's a mix of influences going on.
Although like you say, I think when you don't introduce this literary background you lose a lot about what is being said about Jon and Sansa (and Daenerys). I agree with people who say you need to understand fantasy of that era to really understand the tone of what he's going for, which is why I think GRRM is sometimes mean and sometimes writing one-handed, but I still think that background for Romantic characters is necessary.
It's no indictment on Jon if he has a long, moody face, and that's what I kind of love honestly. I think Rhaegar may have been handsome because he was both the crown prince and a Targaryen, and like Arianne expresses aversions to Targaryen features, it may have been divisive in its own way too, beautiful on the terms of conqueror-conquered. I especially enjoy the idea that Lyanna herself had that unusual wolf beauty to her, but beauty in women isn't a portent of safety after all; beauty is just another way girls and women are controlled, even if it superficially seems beneficial when attractive. So that there's some danger to beauty, and danger in Jon's face (Lyanna's, but maybe a hint of Rhaegar too?) hinting his ancestry but also disguising it through something that can be a comfort (Ned) for Sansa is really interesting to me.
(Continuation of this convo)
No worries, anon! For some reason, tumblr wouldn’t let me save, post, schedule for later, or add that post to my queue when I was writing it! I finally just exited the tab and when I got back on tumblr it would let me post an earlier, automatically saved version, as long as I didn’t try to edit it at all, otherwise I would have chatted more with you, because I had, in the version that wouldn’t post. 😅
I share your frustration with the fandom deciding that Sansa is shallow for being moved by beauty and then turning around and obsessing over poll results about whether or not their fav is pretty. I genuinely don’t care, but they clearly care a lot. 😂 I don’t like talking about the kids that way, I don’t think their appearance has anything to do with why we like them, but it just so happens that Jon and Sansa being very Stark and very Tully (look-wise) matters so here we are. And you’re absolutely right, Sansa has suffered a lot of unwanted attention because she is beautiful, so this isn’t exactly something Sansa fans take delight in.
We do get the different takes on Targ looks! For Rhaegar, I thought the emphasis was on his music as the thing that made people swoon? Martin has a thing with singers / someone singing a song seducing people that repeatedly pops up and that is the one thing we know about Lyanna’s feelings—his singing moved her. That’s a connection to Jon who reacts in a similar way to Ygritte’s singing.
I wasn’t even thinking about the secret wife thing being a connection between Rochester and Rhaegar, but bigamy was a popular trope in gothic lit and the sensationalist victorian lit that followed, so I definitely think that’s worth noting. As is the whole, family estate being destroyed in a fire, and of course, “madness.” That all would make me think the references are more about Rhaegar and Targaryen ancestry, less about projecting into Jon’s future, but depending on which spec you buy into, Jon could be in love with Sansa and forced into a relationship with Dany or potentially married to Sansa and still facing pressure from Dany to enter into a sexual relationship. If Martin wants to go dark, it’s possible the gothic “two wives” trope and the Targaryen two wives idea manifest in Jon’s own life with a twist. I still don’t see how the space for Jon and Dany to have much interaction so I’m not too fussed about it, but I certainly think it’s possible Dany sees Jon as an answer to her desire for someone to trust. 😬 Generally though, I don’t look at literary references as being a sure fire way of dictating how the story will go, but I think it’s fun to see how writers are knowingly or unknowingly influenced by certain things. I don’t know that Martin said “gothic lit has family estates burning -> I’m gonna send Summerhall up in flames” but nonetheless, there’s a reason why that would pop into his mind.
Thanks for the followup message, I enjoyed reading your thoughts on this!

“We know that the alpha pack is coming,” Derek reminded the gathered pack.
“Hold up,” Arianne raised a perfectly manicured hand.  "How exactly do we know that?“
Had it been anyone else, Derek might have rolled his eyes or growled, but he had a soft spot for the young redhead.  She may have been Cora’s polar opposite in almost every way, but her sharp wit and confidence reminded him of his younger sister and he had found himself starting to see her as another sister.
"They left me a warning,” he explained.  "They’re going to be here soon.“
"Nope, I don’t follow,” she told him, sliding off her sunglasses with practiced ease.  "The alpha pack warned you they’re coming?  Like, “Derek, we’re coming, xoxo Gossip Girl?” warned you?“
"Well, no one signed anything as Gossip Girl,” he sighed.

Round 4
Tumblr media
Note: This is a three-way poll to even our numbers going into the semi-finals! Only the winner will advance to the final four!
Pokémon TV Series: I want to be the very best, like no one ever was. The Pokémon TV series or Pokémon anime is the iconic all-ages animated show based on the immensely popular Pokémon trading card and video game franchise. Premiering in 1997, the series follows the irresponsibly-young adventures of a trainer named Ash Ketchum and his electrifying companion Pikachu as they travel through the many regions in the Pokémon world, capturing and training Pokémon, competing in battles, and aiming to become Pokémon Masters. Along the way, they encounter friends and rivals, foil the plans of the villainous Team Rocket, and of course document and capture lots of funny little guys (Pocket Monsters, as it were.) You gotta catch 'em all!
Princess Mononoke: Cut off a wolf’s head, and it still has the power to bite. Princess Mononoke is a critically acclaimed animated film created by renowned director Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, released in 1997. The film tells a complex environmental story, set in a fantastical ancient forest based on late Muromachi period Japan; we join a young warrior, Ashitaka, who becomes embroiled in a conflict between the inhabitants of the forest and a mining town encroaching on their land. At the heart of the story is San, a human girl raised by wolves, and Lady Eboshi, the leader of the mining community. Princess Mononoke is admired by Ghibli and non-Ghibli fans alike for its beautiful hand-drawn animation and its exploration of the themes of nature, industrialization, and the delicate balance between the consistent push of humanity and the weariness of a long-surviving environment. It was the highest-grossing film in Japan for 1997, and also held Japan's box office record for domestic films until Miyazaki’s 2001 release Spirited Away.
End of Evangelion: It all returns to nothing. So says the haunting tune 'Komm, Süsser Tod' by Arianne, which soundtracks the fate of humanity in the End of Evangelion. The film serves as an alternate ending to the original anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion, which bewitched viewers with the then-unconventional match of giant mecha and existential depression all wrapped up in religious iconography. The final episodes of the anime are incredibly cerebral and proved controversial for viewers at the time, which led to director Hideaki Anno further expressing himself in the 1997 film... which took the heady themes and conflicting stylistic choices of the show and put them in a high-octane blender, along with a tall glass of Human Tang. At its core, End of Evangelion asks if individualism is the one great folly of humanity and the source of our suffering, or if it is the very point of it; it shows the loss of barriers between people and subsequent extinction of loneliness as a sort of cosmic horror. Looking back at the scenes, imagery, and music most associated with the anime and its continued influence, much of the franchise's legacy stems from the End of Evangelion.

Sansa’s arm was interloped with her father’s as they walked into the throne room, holding Lady’s on a leash that served to just keep her close.
She was a big wolf, so tall that Sansa doubted anyone would ever tower over her, but she was very well-behaved, and Sansa knew she could trust her with her life.
Sansa was wearing her new dress, something she had finished during her trip with the new fabrics she received as gifts, inspired by the south fashion, though with her own touch and a Stark and Tully inspiration.
It was during their travels that they heard the news of Jon’s coronation and Rhaegar’s early departure from the throne. The former King had left with his Hand to live in Dragonstone - and there were rumours that Sansa would never reproduce, but said that his Hand was the reason he never married again - and left Jon to reign over the Seven Kingdoms.
The night they heard about it, father whispered to her something she was already thinking to herself. After she married Jon and his team of wives was completed, there would be a lot of pressure for him to choose a Queen.
She still could remember the day she had eavesdropped on Robb and Jon talking, and the way her future husband said she was going to be his Queen.
Sansa doubted he still had the same thought in mind. He had so many beautiful wives. Her bet was that he was going to pick Lady Margaery or Princess Arianne.
“Ready?” father asked, taking her mind away from her thoughts.
Sansa faced forward at the curve to the throne room and breathed in deep.
“Yes,” she decided. “I am.”
He nodded to the nobleman standing there, who turned and stepped inside.
“Introducing Lord Eddard Stark and his eldest daughter, Lady Sansa Stark,” he announced to the booming room.
They stepped inside, and her eyes sparkled at the sight of the large throne room, filled with noblemen and noblewomen, watching her with curiosity and eagerness, with the stained-glass window with the seven-pointed star shining the beautiful summer sunlight in her direction.
Her gaze suddenly met the centre of the room, and her heart nearly stopped. Jon’s steel grey eyes had a dash of purple in the sunlight, and he was looking straight at her as he descended the stairs of the Iron Throne.
He was donned up in red and black, with a proper crown atop his beautiful black curls.
Jon looked so much like a dragon that she feared he was too close to being unrecognisable.
He had grown up to be a handsome man.
And… a rather short one too.
Shorter than Sansa, if her perspective was right.
She remembered the time when she was 12, when Jon was only at the cusp of manhood, but still towered over her, picking her up lovingly when he played the bandit to steal her away in their games. He was so big back then.
Hadn’t he grown up more?
Maybe she was the only one who had grown taller.
Still, she wondered if he could still do the same, but before her thoughts could travel more, Lady started to tug at her leash and easily freed herself from Sansa's grip. The crowds gasped and one of the men of the Kingsguard rushed to protect Jon, and Sansa wished a hole opened in the floor to eat her alive and kill her right then and there, but Jon simply told his man to back away and called her wolf closer, kneeling to pet her fur.
“Hello, Lady,” he smiled, and dared to give her a kiss between her eyes. “Don’t you look beautiful, all grown up?”
Her face flushed from both envy and embarrassment, and father chuckled, making her glare at him just like mother would.
Lady licked his chin, feeling welcomed, and stepped away, moving to walk out of the throne room.
“Lady,” she hissed, trying to be discreet. “Lady, come back here!”
Jon shot her a charming smile.
“She is only going after Ghost,” he assured her. “He likes to bask in the sun at this time of the day, don’t worry.”
Sansa couldn’t help but imagine his wolf, probably big and strong, with his belly up, enjoying the soft sun. Oh, how good would it be to finally see him again.
She tried to regain her composure, but Jon just smiled more at her, warm and welcoming, even if with a bit of teasing underneath his words.
"Your grace," she pulled her arm away from father’s, and gave him a deep curtsy.
Father bowed quickly, but she kept her stance until Jon put a hand in front of her, and took it as she rose, watching his face as her future husband kissed her knuckles.
"It is a pleasure to have you in our company, Lady Stark," he greeted her like a proper King.
Sansa was about to answer when she heard some giggles and looked behind him to find all six of his wives sitting by the side of the iron throne, by Jon’s left hand, side by side.
She was so focused on Lady that she hadn’t even seen them!
“Thank you, your grace,” she answered, at last, trying not to look affected.
Oh, by the old gods and the new, this was even worse!
She had embarrassed herself not only in front of Jon, but all of his pretty wives!
Father started speaking for her, and the houses she was representing - the Starks and the Tullys - and she let her gaze travel to the women watching them, who were also eyeing her.
The first one that got her attention was Princess Asha, of the Iron Islands. She was seated like a man, had her hair so short that Jon’s curls were longer than her strands, and was dressed in attire fit for a Prince.
Right by her side, little Myrcella was the only one who kept her eyes on Jon, full of the adoration only a young girl could have for the boy she was pining for, done up in light pinks and gold.
Princess Mya, formerly Stone and legitimised as a Baratheon was right by her side, looking like she was even taller than Sansa while dressed in her house’s colours, yellow and black, whispering something to the woman by her opposite side with a confused look on her face, but Princess Alys Arryn - a Valyrian-looking woman, a distant cousin of his - was only nodding at whatever she was saying.
Princess Margaery and Princess Arianne were even more beautiful than the rumours about them said. They told no lies; if anything, the word of their beauty and regal looks were not enough to describe how much like a Queen they looked.
The two were sitting almost taller than the other women, as if they commanded them. They were, after all, the first wives.
Princess Arianne was dressed like a Queen she knew she would be, her Dornish colours merging beautifully with the Targaryen ones, wearing her hair pinned back to show off her dragon necklace. Princess Margaery rivalled her by doing the opposite, and boldly showing her house colours and symbols, like a goddess of floral and gold.
She felt so meek under their stare that she almost wanted to turn back and leave.
“Sansa,” Jon’s voice pulled her back to him, and she moved her eyes quickly to his face, realising he was addressing her personally.
“Your grace?”
“I know that our engagement was none of our choosing,” he put his hand under hers and caressed his knuckles with his thumb. “But I swear to the old gods and the new that I will be an honourable and worthy husband for you.”
Sansa forced herself to smile.
He didn’t want her.
“And I, my king, will submit to you as a good wife,” she promised, like a proper lady, and heard someone snickering from where his wives were seated. “And love you from this day until the last of my days.”
Jon smiled, with his eyes looking at her with a touch of sadness he couldn’t quite hide, and slowly let her fingers go, looking up at her father.
“I will cut this meeting short,” he looked at the two of them. “The two of you and your men have travelled a long way here, and it would do you good to have some rest.”
She confirmed silently, hiding her sadness, and a man moved to their side, guiding the two of them into big quarters, with father smiling happily at her side as everyone came to occupy it.
“My lady,” a maid came to her. “May I show you your room?”
She looked over at father, a little surprised, but he just kissed her forehead.
“I know where to find you,” he assured her. “You can go.”
