Kissing you on the mouth for your Lance son of Hermes take. I didn't even really have an opinion before but after reading your post I'm immediately sold and so invested in the au
Do you have ideas on what the other characters godly parents would be? Hunk with Hephaestus makes sense to me, and I'm a fan of Keith son of Ares (learning to accept his godly dad could match with his arc about accepting he's part galra, a supposedly evil/violent side of him, + the anger and fighting skills), but not sure about the others...
hello!!! I'm glad you see the vision hehe. I actually sent many a paragraph to heynhay about this only yesterday. I was firmly on the son of Ares Keith headcanon but then... someone reblogged my post saying Keith son of Zeus (I think it was @pidges-lost-robot and i was like WAAAAIT.
Okay so here's my many many paragraphs explaining headcanons for each. Shiro son of Zeus: Okay so in my head Shiro & Keith are both sons of Zeus but for very different reasons. They're like Thalia vs Jason types. Shiro is a great leader, he's ambitious, he's brave, he's a legend. His dad is so proud. He's been on like 20 quests and absolutely demolished all of them. All the kids in camp know he's So Cool and Talented. He can be hot headed sometimes but ultimately he's really adept at setting aside his feelings for the Greater Good etc. Ideal hero type and ideal son to the big guy upstairs. Keith son of Zeus: Keith is all the bad traits of Zeus (sorry to him). He's got a short temper, he's impulsive, he's closed off. He's a prodigy without meaning to be. Everyone pays attention to him but (despite what Lance thinks) it's because they think he's a freak, he's not a big three kid the way you're Supposed To Be. And he doesn't want to be a leader. This really rubs Zeus the wrong way. Keith would rather disappear into the ranks of his fellow campers than be the star of the show and that goes against everything children of Zeus are supposed to be. His dad definitely refuses to claim him for a long time which makes Keith just some weird really powerful kid who doesn't know who his godly parent is. Luckily Shiro takes him under his wing : )) (too bad Shiro doesn't come back from his latest quest tho, no one knows where he went off to and Chiron doesn't want to send out a quest because if something kept Shiro The Legend from coming back to camp it must be really bad). Hunk son of Aphrodite: ANOTHER ONE I'M FIRM ABOUT. I think Hunk's defining characteristic is his love for his friends. Hunk is always looking for peaceful ways to solve problems, he's always forming relationships with people before doing anything else, he really values giving love to those around him. It also doesn't hurt that he's kind of squeamish and particular about a lot of things, as a lot of Aphrodite's children are. But I really think his greatest strengths are the ways he's able to relate to others. I know a lot of people say Lance is the glue that holds everyone together, but I think it's Hunk. I know the fanon is that Aphrodite's kids are all just big flirts but I think both Selena and Piper are great examples that that's not true, and Hunk would absolutely be their brother. Pidge daughter of Hephaestus: I've seen some people saying Athena for Pidge but that's another one where I just can't get behind it. Pidge is so smart in so many ways but so stupid in others. She's too impulsive and single minded to be a daughter of Athena, imo. Her main love is figuring out how things work, what makes them tick, and using that knowledge to help those she loves. Children of Hephaestus are know to hold grudges, fight for their families, and let's not forget Hephaestus spending literally all of his free time trying to play pranks on the other Gods with his little contraptions like that is all Pidge would do all day long. Plus she befriends a robot and that is who she talks to for the first like 3 episodes of Voltron that is so unbelievably child of Hephaestus energy. Anyway thank u for asking this question I've been thinking on it for days. I am also open to the idea of Shiro being a son of Athena, I think that would suit him well. And also in my head I like to think Keith would potentially just remain unclaimed until he stomped his way to Mount Olympus and forced whoever was his parent to fess up.

Lance has always been obsessed with Keith's hair for some reason. He didn't know why at first, but as time went on, it became so clear that he wanted to run his hands though it and feel it on his fingers.
He made comments about it being an ugly mullet to hide that fact. It didn't work, especially not when he confessed to Keith before he left for the Blade.
What? He was going to lose the chance to say anything anyway! And he was so happy when Keith kissed him to shut him up and told Lance that his feelings were reciprocated, he felt as if he were on cloud nine.
Since coming back from his fight with Shiro's clone (who they're forever going to refer to as Kuro as in 'Operation Kurone'), Keith has experienced some changes.
For starters, his eyes were more purple. Before they'd been a grey colour with purple undertones, but now they were properly purple. Then his canines were sharper, practically fangs, and his eyes would sometimes change. When he was angry, his irises would become slits and the sclera of his eyes would become yellow. It was hot, in Lance's humble opinion (Pidge called him an alien fucker when he said that at first. Lance said that Keith's dad was the true alien fucker. Shiro sprayed the water he was drinking everywhere and choked when he said that).
The most noticeable change happened to Keith's hair though. The ends of it lightened, until they were purple. It looked so cool, and it connected Keith to Krolia more. His hair stayed black, but now when it gets out it was purple.
Keith... Didn't think the same way as everyone else.
"I feel like I'm losing my dad. I've only ever looked like my mom, and the one thing that has ever connected me to my dad was my hair." The team had stopped on a planet for a rest, and Keith and Lance had gone off together to hunt down some meat and gather fruit and vegetables.
Lance stopped and grabbed Keith's wrist, forcing him to stop and turn to face him.
"You're still connected to your dad, Keith. It's just not entirely in your appearance," he said. Keith frowned.
"What do you mean?" He asked. Lance hummed.
"You said that he'd go head first into danger, right?"
"Yeah..?"
"And that he was a hero?"
"Where are you going with this?"
"According to your mom, your dad was kind, and reckless, and a hero and someone she loved enough to leave to keep safe."
"Mom said that?" Keith asked, sounding surprised. Lance nodded. "Where are you going with this anyway?"
"Because those are some things that you have in common with your dad," Lance answered. Keith opened his mouth, then closed it.
"... You're right," he eventually said. Keith reached up to his hair and fiddled with a purple end. "That stuff... Does connect me to my dad..."
"I'm never wrong about people things," Lance said, confidently. Keith smiled down at him (that had happened during the two year time dilation that Keith and Krolia went through, and Lance found that he liked having to look up over looking down).
"You know more about people than I do," he agreed. He pressed a kiss to Lance's forehead. "Thank you."
"Anything for you," Lance said. He pressed a kiss to Keith's lips. "Now, let's go catch something that Hunk can make into a good meal."
"Alright."
They worked quickly, and made their way back to the campsite with food that all of them could eat. Hunk was quick to take care of the food, Krolia helping him while Romelle stayed by Allura's side.
Lance sat on a log, and Keith settled himself between his legs. Kosmo flopped down with them.
Lance ran his hands through Keith's hair, smiling as Keith joked with the others and treated Shiro and Romelle like Lance treated his siblings - by annoying the hell out of them out of love.
Lance leaned down and pressed a kiss to the top of Keith's head.
"I love you," he whispered. Keith hummed, tilting his head to look up at him. There was a smile on his face reserved just for Lance.
"I love you too," he replied.

"And if you’re worried about the cameras just take care of them.” “Take care—! Take care of them? With what, Keith?” “I don’t know?” Keith asks, busily testing his foothold in the gate and generally ignoring the rising storm cloud of ire behind him. “With a gun?” “A gun? This isn’t some sort of black ops storming an enemy base thing! This is a Christmas tree thing!” “I don’t see a difference? You’re the sharpshooter. Shoot out the cameras.” “Let me just pull a gun out of my ass, Keith!” “OK, problem solved,” Keith agrees, taking another step up the gate. “Nothing is solved you dumb country space redneck!”

You know I was kidding.” Keith straightened up. “Well, I’m not. Marry me.” “What?!” “You heard me, you coward. Um, okay this is a loaded question, and if you want to play it safe, you can answer me in DMs, but...I personally feel that there's something wrong about how VLD placed Keith in the lead. In a way, I can see him becoming Black Paladin, but Shiro...it feels more natural to me, it feels right that Shiro is Black Paladin. I'm not into VLD beyond Shiro, Keith's parents, and the Lions personally, but I know someone who loves it and makes good points about Keith as a leader, but something just isn't aligning for me. Maybe it's because Shiro and Keith are two radically different archetypes, and they got swapped when they shouldn't have, I don't know.
I came here because I saw one of your post S2 rewrites, and I appreciated it. So, again, feel free to answer me in DMs (if you have problems DM-ing me, let me know and I'll fix it for you) if you don't mind discussing this with me.
As a final note, I'm not trying to hate any particular character. They're all fine on their own, and I don't want to treat one as worse than the other. I just want to figure out this problem I'm having with Shiro and Keith.
Thank you for reading this, and take care.
You came to the right blog! Because I adore Keith and believe he certainly has qualities that could make him a good leader—and absolutely hate him as the Black Paladin.
The thing I never understood about Voltron fandom debates about who should be the Black Paladin is that they always seem based in the idea that because Shiro is a leader and the Black Paladin, that means the Black Paladin is the ONLY leader on the team.
It is worth noting that that premise was disproven in episode one. It was Allura who made the final call on whether the paladins should run or stay and fight Sendak, and Shiro explicitly bowed to her authority. From then on, Shiro and Allura both lead Team Voltron until the show decided to destroy their characters, accepting influence and trading responsibilities depending on which one of them fit the situation at hand. Typically, Allura functions more in a commander and diplomat role and Shiro is more of a field officer, but they both pick up the lead where needed.
I know you didn't bring up Allura, but I think it is vital she is included in any conversation about leadership in Voltron. She is introduced as THE princess of an entire planet, she has more knowledge and experience of the intergalactic landscape than any of the other characters, she's been set up to be a leader since birth, and she IS the leader of Team Voltron for two whole seasons. Shiro makes it VERY clear he considers her to outrank him.
So the question you have to ask any time you consider replacing Shiro as Black Paladin: why NOT Allura? If the Black Paladin is the "best leader", why are you skipping over the one character already established and thriving in a leadership role? (And then you have to ask yourself if that character being a Black woman has anything do with that.)
Now I do think there are ways narratively you could answer that question. For instance, if you keep the Lions as sentient beings, that means they can make choices—including wrong ones. For instance, for a time when I believed anything might be salvaged after season 3, my head canon for Black choosing Keith was that Keith was the one missing Shiro as intensely and desperately as Black in that moment. Therefore, the choice was not about Keith being "better" but rather them being at the same place emotionally and that allowing the bond. The major problem with the Lion swap in canon is that we're given NO reason for Keith to be Black Paladin besides "plot device said so". Especially when we have Allura right there. It's just bad writing.
(By the way, you don't have to be pro-Black Paladin Allura. There's nuance to be had, and I personally am actually more One True Black Paladin!Shiro. But you can't just dismiss her--a capable and proven leader--from the conversation. Erasing her character is not the answer.)
ANYWAY. Back to Keith. Or rather, leadership on Team Voltron. Thing is, there are many different WAYS to be a leader. We already touched on the differences between Allura and Shiro. Keith does a good job of making split second decisions in battle or calling shots if Shiro is incapacitated or somehow separated. If you're in the middle of a fight, the plan has gone to shit, and the team just got separated, Keith is great at telling people what to do and mobilizing because something needs to get done NOW.
But that's not the only way to lead. Keith, for instance, is terrible at pep talks. He misses a lot of the nuances going on between him and his teammates off the battlefield. He doesn't plan ahead, like, ever. Sure he's great at making up stuff on the fly, but sometimes you need a plan.
But it's not just Keith. For instance, when Shiro, Lance, and Pidge go on the mission to rescue Slav, it's Pidge who calls all the shots. Is that not leadership? Pidge is often the one telling people what they need to do to solve technical problems. She's a center for information, typically the one collecting it, organizing and interrupting it, and then instruction others based on her conclusions. We see her take point on a mission, give orders to her teammates, coordinate efforts, problem solve in real time and relay a new plan in order to navigate unexpected challenges. Why not argue PIDGE should be the leader?
And there's when they freed the Balmera and Hunk took the lead. That mission was more challenging, but I'd argue in that arc, Hunk's leadership mattered less in terms of orders and more in terms of determining what type of team they'd be. Hunk was ADAMANT they free the Balmerans and set a tone for the team where they didn't leave suffering people behind. Hunk set up a moral imperative for the team that they'd be lesser without.
And Lance! There's actually lots to say about Lance and his strengths and types of leadership. But it's easy to point out that Lance is the one initiating fun and team bonding outside of battle. And when you're operating a giant robot held together by emotion connection, that's pretty dang important!
Point is, they're ALL leaders. They all have the capability to take point when needed. We SEE them all take charge at different points of the show.
So what's the Black Paladin then? If Shiro's The Leader then what does that mean? And this is the cool part! Because you know what Shiro is really really good? Know who else to put in charge. He's the one who first acknowledges Allura as an authority because he sees she has knowledge and experience he and the others do not. He selects which paladins to go together on which missions based on their strengths and the situations. He steps back and lets Pidge or Lance or Hunk call the shots if they're in an area of their expertise. Shiro's job isn't to tell people what to do. It's to decide who to put in charge of what and place them in best position for success.
There's another aspect of Shiro's leadership that is supporting his teammates, offering comfort, teaching, and giving the kids something solid they can believe in so they don't have to care the full weight of the war. But like letting others take charge where they shine, Shiro's leadership is all about enabling those he leads. One of my favorite Shiro lines is "It's too dangerous—I'm coming with you." Shiro's goal is never control. He is support. He leads the paladins because he sees the best in them and helps them reach it.
Narratively, also, Shiro is just set up to be the Black Paladin. The parallels between himself and the Black Lion are too obvious. From both being controlled and abused by Zarkon to Shiro's missing arm and Black's mission bayard. It's a kid's show. The symbolism isn't all that subtle. And if that weren't enough, we literally get an entire episode A plot in Space Mall about it where Shiro literally fist fights Zarkon for the Black Lion and in the end, he wins because he makes it clear it's the Black Lion's choice and trust.
Remember when I said the problem with Keith in the Black Lion in canon is that we're never given an explanation beyond "because I said so"? We're shown repeatedly why the Black Lion chooses Shiro. Even before we meet most the Lions, the other paladins themselves choose Shiro as their leader when Lance asks him if they should go through the wormhole. We repeatedly see Shiro seek to understand the Black Lion better, and Black responding. We see the similarities between their situations and backstories. We see them bond.
And I think this is really important because when Shiro is in the Black Lion, it's not about him being "in charge." It's about his relationship with the Black Lion. Yeah, of course, the other paladins are leaders! And they should be! But none of them have Shiro's relationship with the Black Lion. In this narrative, the Black Lion isn't a prize to be won but a relationship to nurture, and Shiro has put in the work for that relationship.
Which is really important because it means the Lions aren't a hierarchy. The Black Paladin is one role, an important role in Voltron, but no more important than any of the others. "The Leader" is not the most important person in the room. Instead, Shiro is a facilitator who enables all the others to perform their roles better.
Also can I just remind everyone just how well the Red Lion fits Keith? The paladin who keeps throwing himself out airlocks get the Lion most likely to go AWOL and fly off to save him. Keith defends his friends and team by attacking first and asking questions later, and Red started destroying a planetary body to get to Keith. The kid with abandonment issues gets the Lion who doesn't hesitate a second to go after him. And even the way they're shown to bond—that it's so physical and based in action rather than words—it's so Keith. I freaking love Keith as the Red Paladin. He gets to be as chaotic and free as he was always meant to be and gets a Lion who meets him every step of the way.
But if you say, no, Keith should be the Black Paladin. Well. What about Red wasn't working? Why was that role not one Keith fit in? Because from my reading of canon, Keith was thriving in Red. He got a secure attachment to his favorite person in the world, he gets the freedom to fly while also being part of something bigger, and he's making friends. It's still in its beginning stages, but he's figuring out how to bond with Lance, Hunk, and Pidge and you get the sense these are a kind of friendships he's never experienced before. But you know what could kill that really fast? Making him The Leader, a position that inherently sets him apart from the rest.
This is actually a problem twice over for Keith because unlike Shiro, who is shown to be given his role voluntarily by everyone around him and repeatedly shows he's earned that trust and respect, Keith is basically thrown into the Plot Device Machine and gets a t-shirt that says YOU'RE THE LEADER NOW. And we never get a reason beyond that.
This is actually my biggest problem season 3 and the Lion Swap. Because as soon as they made that choice, the Lions became a hierarchy. But what other explanation do we have? Keith won Favorite Character status got "prompted" to Black Paladin. But as soon as Black Paladin is a promotion, that makes the other paladin roles inferior. Red becomes the "second in command". So Lance get prompted but can never be equal to Keith. Allura gets the "Training Wheels" Lion/Blue, and they didn't have to write that as a massive demotion, but they sure did anyway. Hunk and Pidge are no longer leaders because they aren't in the "Leader" Lions.
It makes me so mad. One of the things I loved first about Voltron was the message of equality and servant leadership. The idea that a leader (represented by Shiro) is someone who elevates and enables everyone else. A recognition for the more "feminine" types of leadership—nurturing, compassion, emotional support. Which support roles are seen as vital and just as if not more important than being the "boss."
But we only got two seasons of that before they pulled the rug out and said, "Nope. We're returning back to patriarchy." Suddenly the Lions were in a strict chain of command, one character was the boss and the rest were his subordinates. There was a top position and a bottom position, and the characters were all fighting over each other. Perhaps most damningly, the Lion lost all personality and agency and become trophies to symbolize a character's power. And I'm not saying they're an accidental representation of how women are treated in Western media but I MEAN. It's right there.
My response when anyone says "[X] character should be the Black Paladin!" is—Why? Is their connection with the Black Lion deeper than Shiro's? Do they have more in common with Black than Shiro does? What could they achieve or obtain as the Black Paladin that they couldn't where they currently are?
And, though I don't think most of us realize it, the answer to that last one is power. Because we're soaked in patriarchy and a certain portrayal of "leadership (derogatory)" that many fans automatically assumed the Black Paladin HAD to be in control of and have power over the other paladins. So of course you want your favorite character to be the Black Paladin! You don't want your self-insert to be inferior!
But that's all the patriarchy talking. The other paladins are NOT inferior. There is NOT a hierarchy of types of people. Keith doesn't have to have Shiro's role because he's already equal as Keith.
Keiths look different from Shiros, but they're all equal and valuable as they are. Same goes for Lances, Hunks, Pidges, and Alluras. The whole point is they're stronger together. Their differences make them BETTER.
So yeah. Of course, Keith has some good leadership qualities. There's plenty of situations where it only makes sense for him to take the lead. But why on earth does he need to be the Black Paladin to do that? He's already Keith!

Section 13 test subjects are characters from Romeo and Juliet? Okay...this is weird but interesting.
Tumblr media
So...wasn't Tybalt and Prince Escalus characters from Romeo and Juliette? Tybalt was the guy that was killed, he was ambitious, with anger and rage issues. Looks like his test had a positive results...that dude had some sort of demon interference?
Dropping these names is a cool little easter egg, no? It was in chapter 85 or 86.
Tumblr media
I've discussed earlier that Faust might actually exists in Kato's blue exorcist universe. But did Romeo and Juliet? Shakespeare did base his play on true events that took place in Verona in the 1300s.
Wouldn't be weird if Mephisto was there? Once again the ringmaster of some tragic event? Instead of being a little black dog manipulating Faust, perhaps he was manipulating a couple of "star-crossed lovers" embroiled in a family feud. Hell, maybe the demon kings were related to the Capulets and Montagues and this is just another narrative playing out between demon/human families. Anyway...it's fucking weird.
If Mephisto was a character in Romeo and Juliet he would no doubt be Friar Lawrence, the monk that is close friends with Romeo. He is seen as both a good and bad character depending on who you ask.
Some see the monk as righteous and good, trying to help a young couple that were forbidden to marry, have their wish granted. At first he tries to talk Romeo out of making a rash decision and marrying Juliet so quickly. But Romeo spurns that advice, and friar Lawrence proceeds to manipulate events to get the couple together. Eventually the friar gives Juliet the potion to fake her death. And as we all know the plan goes horrendously wrong, resulting in tragedy.
Other descriptions of the Monk also remind me of Mephisto:
He's described as lazy, scheming and politically motivated.
Other Notes.
The themes in the play Romeo and Juliet, do parallel some aspects of Blue Exorcist. Especially Mephisto's dealings with humans, the tragic love story of Shiro and Yuri, plus Yukio and Rin and the error of rash decisions...
Taken from Wikipedia: "Scholars have found it extremely difficult to assign one specific, overarching theme to the play. Proposals for a central theme include a discovery by the characters that human beings are neither wholly good nor wholly evil but instead are more or less alike,[36] awaking out of a dream and into reality, the danger of hasty action, or the power of tragic fate."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fate and chance
"Scholars are divided on the role of fate in the play. No consensus exists on whether the characters are truly fated to die together or whether the events take place by a series of unlucky chances."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Duality (light and dark)
Taken from Wikipedia
"Scholars have long noted Shakespeare's widespread use of light and dark imagery throughout the play. Caroline Spurgeon considers the theme of light as "symbolic of the natural beauty of young love" and later critics have expanded on this interpretation.[49][51] For example, both Romeo and Juliet see the other as light in a surrounding darkness. Romeo describes Juliet as being like the sun,"[52]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plus, we get this complex duality of light and darkness with Mephisto.
Light and Dark....tipping of scales, good and evil co-exisiting
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway...again...interesting easter eggs. I wonder if I could make a Mephisto timeline to pinpoint all the shit he caused in Europe. Interesting next assignment.

Whumptober day 12:
"I haven't slept in days, but who's counting?"
Red | insomnia | "im up, im up!"
Fandom: Voltron
Prompts used: All
Alrighty! Part 2 of day 3! Hehehehehe! (This turned Klancey on me so fast i didnt even see it coming…) As always the timeline is screwed, I am pickpocketing the moments I want and placing them on a conspiracy board to my aesthetic liking. This deals with the aftermath of isolation, and its effects- to the best of my limited knowledge- so please tread carefully. Would love to hear from y'all if you like it! Thanks!
Ps: Since alien measures of time are slightly longer I'm going off of someone elses calculations of what they may be. (Spiralled_Fury on A03) so a movement is 1.23 weeks which is roughly 8 days and something hours.
The observation deck is quiet and dark, nothing but that soothing blue glow of Altean technology- nothing like that yellow of-
The stars, foreign as they may be, are nice to look at. The castle hums, and Blue is present in his mind, and it's a calm night in the open space. In a few minutes he'll make his rounds, check on each inhabitant of the castle, each of whom he sent to bed about a varga- hour- ago. It's been about a movement- a week since the pod, and that extra day and a little that he was in it- since his… rescue. He's tried his best to return to what was, but sometimes he wonders if he even should.
He loves his team, he has been 'loverboy Lance' since practically birth. He cared so deeply about others, in detriment to himself typically, that even as a baby he knew when something was wrong with his family. They worried about him and his horrid taste in people, Hunk had barely made the cut and he's… well Hunk. But he just knows that if his Mama had been here watching their lives, he'd have gotten smacked upside the head, hugged to death, and whisked away with only the destruction her Chancla left behind them.
That other voice in his head however pipes up, reminding him that they are children in war, lost in space and far away from all they have ever known. This team of teenagers is being led by two young adults, with one actual adult juggling a million duties behind them. This is a battlefield, and in a castle meant to house so many many more, 7 people barely fill a corner of it.
Lance knows that they are good people. The thing that scared his family the most, was not that he could not discern the good and the bad people, but that he cared for them anyway like it would do something. (That's not true, he went to them because they gave him the time of day, you can only be used if you have a use after all…)
But with the team, he knew they were good people. But they were also tired, traumatized and thrust into the turbulence, trials and tribulations of war and adulthood in one go. Lance had chosen who he was going to be the minute they'd all met in the desert. For kids lost in space needed something to ground them, something to make them smile, and remind them to rest, and to reminisce on home and what they fight for. But that apparently also made him the least, it felt like he was always coming up short or failing all together. That what he was doing was nothing to the team.
He… didn't want to go back to that. But if he had to choose between that and the room, well… it wasn't a hard choice he supposed.
His knees creak as he stands, he has to consciously straighten his back and neck- he doesn't have to duck or crouch anymore, there's room Lance, remember- his legs wobble for only a second before he takes his first step. He reminds himself that that's okay, he was gone for… a long time, and he sat or crouched or layed for all of it, his legs needed time to adjust to walking again.
Bare feet pad slightly as he makes his familiar route. The Alteans are first, he can hear Corans snoring outside his door, and a small peek shows Allura curled up with the mice slumbering in her hair, her brow is relaxed and form loose, she needed the rest. Shiro is next, and he frowns at his leader's tense form, fist clenched in his sheets. He leans against the doorway, wracking his brain for a tune, and hums the first one he thinks of softly. He doesn't know why it works, why Shiro's whole form melts into the bed after a few moments of it, but he won't complain either, Shiro deserved good sleep.
Hunk is next, and like Coran he can hear his snores through the door, though a deeper timbre and slightly quieter. He wants to peek in but Hunk is a light sleeper so he allows himself a few moments to listen before moving to Pidges room. The little gremlin is stubborn and Lance always has to prepare for the possibility of her being awake, so he braces himself as he opens her door. Her breaths are soft and though he has to maneuver around her heaps of who knows what, he finally finds her sprawled like a broken starfish in her bed, glasses askew and laptop haphazardly on her lap. He smiles at the drool at the corner of her mouth and shakes his head, carefully slipping off her glasses and placing them atop her laptop on her side table. He pulls the covers over her as she curls up on her side and lingers for only a moment, he still has one more person to check on.
Keith's room is empty, two warring feelings hit him at once- a wave of panic and a tired sigh of exasperation. He makes his way to the training room, hearing the sounds of the gladiator from down the hall. He's too tired to interrupt this time round, Keith's chest is heaving so he'll probably be done soon anyway. He leans against the doorway watching mullet maneuver around the sparring section, more aggression than tact in his movements than usual, and finds his eyes feeling heavy.
It's not a new feeling, he's felt strangely heavy for a while now despite his ribs doing their best at being one of those wooden frogs that you can make croak. He's only been able to get a few hours in this week, not that the team knows, or they haven't said anything. But everytime he closes his eyes…
The walls glow yellow and seem to creep closer every time he blinks, but if he doesn't blood starts to seep from the crevices he could never peel open and flood the room. He'll float there, eyes unblinking as he screams but no sound reaches his ears. The not bread and the not water dance a tango in front of him before launching down his throat as pain erupts from his very bones and his head expLOADS-
"LANCE!"
"I'm up, I'm up!" He flails, wobbles backwards, falls-
Finds himself looking into Keith's frazzled eyes as the sweaty samurai holds him to his tense form. The image and sensations are too real, it was just a dream, he must have dozed off, he's fine, Keith is here and he's fine.
"Sorry, I uh… was here to make you sleep ha…" Lance's body refuses to cooperate, but Keith seems to read him well enough, moving them until they're both simply sitting in the entrance.
"You were… uh, you didn't look er no, I mean that it just seemed like something was freaking you out." Keith to his part, is even more awkward than Lance, but he's also actively working his sentences through so that's something.
"Oh yeah… I'm fine, sorry." Lance looks away, rubbing at his face to stave off what he saw.
"You look exhausted, I thought you were already in bed. What are you doing up again?" Keith ducks his head to see his face, sweaty mullet hanging in a scraggly mess.
"I look awesome." Lance scoffs halfheartedly, definitely not saying what he was going to say because 'I haven't slept in days, but who's counting?' Would not go over well.
"What!? What do you mean days??"
Oh well, maybe he's more tired than he thought. Lance laughs stiffly, moving to stand, but only accomplishing a weird half crawl wobble before Keith moves to keep him in place, they naturally fall into a tuffle because like hell is Lance going to have this conversation when hes so artfully avoided it and no ones brought it up and everything is FINE!
And he's pinned.
Keith is slightly winded- Lance's boney knees had a few purposes thank you- but he has Lance's wrists pinned on either side of his head, and legs pinning the rest of him in an annoyingly cool move that Lance will be learning later. But there's no triumphant grin or banter, instead worry still clouds his expression.
"Have you slept at all since you've… been back?" He- like everyone on this ship- have refused to really bring up what went down. And it's not like Lance did either! But he's scared still, of things that happen again before his eyes. Keith's finger presses gently on his cheek, turning Lance's teary eyes towards him once again. "Talk to me, Sharpshooter."
And Lance's soul, tired and weary, breaks open like a flood gate. Tears leaked down his cheeks- warm, they were always so warm against his cold skin- and he trembles- shivers, it was cold there, he was so cold.
"I'm scared." He utters the words like a secret, and really it is one. Even if they saw him broken and at the end of his rope, Lance had tried so hard to return to his role when he got back, to be useful… “I don’t want to go back Keith.”
“We will never let that happen! That guy isn’t going to hurt anyone ever again, and I promise to keep anyone else from doing it too!” Keith’s adamant response and determined eyes are enough to make him sob again, Keith falters wiping some of the tears absentmindedly. “What did I miss?”
“I don’t,” he swallows thickly, trying to get his thoughts in order, “want to be the seventh wheel anymore. The least. I don’t want to be alone. Please don’t-” he chokes on another sob and Lance is hurriedly pulled into a warm embrace.
He’s startled for only a moment before heat chases away his cold, and safety wraps around him, and he burrows into it, hands gripping tightly around shoulders, afraid the moment will end too soon.
“I’m sorry we made you feel that way. We were an absolute mess without you Lance, you have no idea how lost we were, I think I was literally ready to kill one of them. And I wasn’t alone in the sentiment. We can’t do this without you, and I don’t think we’d want to either.”
“I think,” he sniffles, voice muffled in Keith’s chest, “that’s the most I’ve heard you say at once in a while.” He squeezes tighter, voice softer, “thank you.”
“I don’t know exactly what you went through, but I’m here if you need anything. And the team will be too, I’ll make sure of it okay?” Lance is hesitant in his nod, worry still deep in his chest. “Alright dork, movie night on the couch. If you’re gonna be awake so am I.”
Keith stands and Lance yelps as he’s lifted, gripping Keith’s throat tight enough to choke. His face burns a brilliant shade of red to match his swollen eyes no doubt, and he can only give Keith’s little grin a petulant look.
“I can walk.”
“You could.” Keith agrees as he turns and starts the journey towards the common room.
Lance watches him as they walk, aware of how out of character this was for them, How much Keith surprised him. He even worries this is a dream, that he’ll wake up alone in that cold dark room, or worse yet, that something terrible will happen next and the team will- but Lance doesn’t think even his mind could imagine these strong arms and abnormally warm chest. He’s set down on the couch, his fingers tighten on Keith’s shirt unconsciously.
“I’m staying, I promise.”
And that meant more than Keith will ever know.

Anime-Manga Comparisons, episode 11.
I just sat through ten episodes of the english dub and then Crunchyroll took that privilege away through premium, so lol. Anyways, we’re up to episode 21 of the manga! Thing really get out of order here lol.
I actually really like the establishing shots of characters running around outside, Kirimi provides us some context and has an adorable voice, and we see the fatass cat dozing in some purple flowers (Kyoya connection? lmao)
There’s a few times in the manga that they refer to Tamaki as having light brown hair, but honestly I couldn’t imagine him being anything other than a blond bimbo. I’m glad they changed it. Also I assume Kirimi is blonde in the manga since they say Tamaki and Nekozawa have a ‘foreign flair’, so it strengthens his connection to her if they have the same hair colour.
Since we already had the blond, hoodless Nekozawa reveal in the beach episode we don’t get another moment of confusion over who he is, so he just enters the club as usual and everyone figures it out immediately. We also see the maid and the butler again, finally named. They’re called Kuretake and Kadomatsu, and I think they’re in love <3
Instead of Kyoya whining about sibling relationships being shit, in the manga he instead points out that Nekozawa has always taken an interest in Tamaki, possibly idolising him because he’s his sister’s ideal image of a brother. Also instead of Nekozawa escaping the room Tamaki gets Mori to grab him and contain him, like a true creature.
Just like the Shiro ep, Renge appears to train Nekozawa in the anime, but it’s Tamaki who trains him in the manga. They both do the exact same job, I wonder if they’re actually the siblings here. Also, the mannequin the twins use from the anime is a cute callback to the first beach episode (do I call it the “beach” episode, or what?) since it’s the same one, and also a callback to the physical exam episode with the wig; in the manga it’s a ragdoll of her instead, which is also pretty cute. Kirimi comes in with her cat plush that’s the size of her, which we never get to see in the anime.
Nekozawa also doesn’t get over his light fear immediately, he’s instead just inspired by Tamaki’s interaction with Kirimi and we see a little montage of him doing better in his training, and then he shines the light on himself. Sashimi still gets freaked out by it, though.
That fatass cat is actually a small, scraggly little cutie pie in the manga (Not that sir chonksalot isn’t adorable, of course! But I think it adds to the humour that she’s petrified of what appears to be a fluffy little kitten.) and Nekozawa runs out to save her. He, tragically, does not jump from a window on the top floor of the school, which would appear to be pretty damn high, from an image of the school. Actually, I think it works better in the anime. It’s meant to be over the top dramatic, so why not have him fling himself out of a window to protect his sister from a cat that’s not even going to attack her?
Finally, Manga Nekozawa offers to cast a spell as a thank you, and it still upsets Tamaki, and then Kirimi calls him a liar and he cries. A happy ending for all!
Episode 11… over, nya!

currently failing to write, so I am going to trick other people into writing instead. Do you have any cool bits of muse lore and/or headcanons that you've always wanted to mention in a plot but just never had an opportunity?
hahaha it took me a few days to get to this because i've been off doing things that AREN'T tumblr rp related, but i'm here now and happy to answer this question (thank you, by the way, i really appreciate you taking the time to send it presumably knowing how much i LOOOVE talking about my muses).
when it comes to this particular blog the natural answer is "um, yes, i don't ever REALLY get the chance to talk about 99 percent of my muses" but that has the potential to be both a very short and very LONG answer so i'll probably just leave you with some stuff for muses that are my personal favorites.
to start off with this is about shiroe log horizon; i don't really know how cool i would call this lore but one of the things i am OBSESSED with about him that i don't always get to discuss is his pre-show activity related to elder tale. he's a dedicated forum user who i hc as having moderated or run the popular discussion sites---in a way not too dissimilar to rev when it comes to baccano!---and who put a lot of his time into dissecting the best and most efficient ways to level in the game, beat raids, etc... it's pretty lame all things considered when it comes to "things about shiroe log horizon" but i've always LOVED the detail that was put into him being a superfan of the game and how that didn't JUST reflect in his activities within the game! i love that he has a sort of canonical "fandom notoriety" because of not only his past involvement with a notorious party but also his own individual out-of-game actions relating to it!
onto another muse; one thing i don't get to discuss with kaito a lot is my actual "mainverse" for him. on my list i have him versed in project sekai for sorting convenience (and for that matter the same is true with longya) but i've actually designed a pretty complex mainverse for him where he's a technological creature created from the thoughts and feelings that listen to the music he's featured in and the songs themselves. because the sense of identity of a vocaloid is pretty nebulous, he was never really much of a consistent being at all, but having gained recent trends in his characterization he's started to take on an actual life and have a real desire to experience existence outside of technology and hologram performances. this verse originated from miku, when i wrote her, but now kaito is in his own unique situation with it and i don't get to use it very often. i think it has a lot of potential in both the wholesome and horror directions.
and fiiiiiinally, i have one of my ocs to talk about, number 44! there are a lot of interesting things i could say about him as he relates to twain over on antisatiric but i don't often get the chance to discuss him from a non twain-centric perspective. i think the thing about him i like the most is that he is both an eternal presence and also the longest in a very long line, and while he has access to and can draw stories from the multiverse, his presence is inherently connected to the "main universe" i have set twain's story in due to twain's universe being a hub of stories where every piece of fiction is real in another world. before he was the archivist, there was a different world considered the "hub world" which had to die in order for the previous archivist to die and 44 to take over the position---so the "hub world" only becomes the hub world BECAUSE the eternal archivist is tied to it. if 44 and the current hub world die, twain will take his place as 45 and a new nascent universe will be created as the new hub world. his lore can get a little complex sometimes.
well anyway, thank you a lot for the ask. i really do like talking like this and it's good to put SOMETHING out on the blog even if that something isn't a reply. ur a real one sawagi :D.
unprompted. / always accepting.

So remember that pizza boy au I reblogged? Yeah I couldn’t find it but I wrote it
Special instructions
“Okay, so we’re watching the Rush Hour trilogy. Lance, you good with that?”
Side note-I absolutely love the Rush Hour movies. Especially the third one.
Lance looked up from his phone to Pidge, who was standing in front of the TV with three DVD’s in her hand. “Uh, yeah sure.”
Pidge shrugged and popped the first one in. Hunk entered the dim room with a bowl full of popcorn in one arm. “Alright, ready for the movie.”
Lance’s attention was now fully back in his phone, staring at the special instructions section of Domino’s online pizza order. For Pidge, he put “as little sauce as possible.” For himself, he had put it to “send your cutest delivery boy.” Whether or not they would actually do it was a question. He clicked the order button, and it was too late to change it now. Joining his roommates on the couch, Lance didn’t think anything of it for a while.
•|~|~|~|•
Shiro smirked down at the newest pizza order. “Send your cutest delivery boy,” it said. Well, Keith was the only one around, so he guessed he’d send him and hope for the best. Shiro called him over.
“Would you describe yourself as ‘cute,’ Keith?”
Keith scoffed and flicked Shiro’s head. “Cuter than you for sure.”
Shiro missed Keith’s hair with a “tsk tsk” noise. “Don’t insult me like that Keith, I could fire you anytime I want.”
“We both know you don’t wanna do that. Even if you did, you’d hire me back within two days.”
“True. But you’ve got a pizza to deliver.”
•|~|~|~|•
Knock, knock.
“Uh, someone ordered a pizza?”
Lance assured his friends that he’d get the door and got up from the couch to walk over. He opened the door and was surprised that the people over at Domino’s actually listened to his instructions. They did send a cute guy.
“Large cheese, half sausage and as little sauce as possible? Um, are you okay?”
Lance was okay. Just distracted. “Wow, I didn’t think they’d do it.”
The delivery boy, Keith according to his name tag, raised an eyebrow. Do what?”
“Send their actual cutest delivery boy.”
Keith’s eyes widened at the… compliment? I guess you could call it that, even if it was delivered strangely. This must’ve been why Shiro asked him if he thought he was cute. He noticed Lance staring at his hair, still lopsided from when Shiro messed with it. He put on an easy grin.
“Yeah, I had to fight all the other delivery boys for the honor of delivering your pizza.”
Lance smirked and leaned against the door frame. “My hero.”
Their little conversation was interrupted by Pidge’s annoyed voice. “Lance, quit trying to seduce the pizza boy! Get the food and get your ass over here, the movie’s starting.”
Rolling his eyes, Lance took the pizza, paid, and bid a goodbye to Keith as he closed the door.
Both of them were up thinking of someone that night.
•|~|~|~|•
Seventh time ordering pizza from Domino’s this month. Every time since the movie night, Lance had requested Keith. And every time, Keith was very enthusiastic about actually fighting the other delivery boys to deliver Lance’s pizza. He might’ve pounded on James a bit the third time he was requested.
Pidge and Hunk weren’t very approving of this pizza phase, but they went along with it. Hunk said that Lance should “be careful, maybe order something other than pizza.” Pidge said as long as he “balances the shit,” he’ll be fine.
Anyway, it was time for a test. Special instructions this time? “Tell me I’m pretty.”
Added challenge? Lance was gonna wear sweats and a face mask to see how Keith would react. Either really well, or very badly. From their seven encounters, Lance had gathered that Keith was never in the middle. It was always one or the other.
After changing and applying the mask, Lance flopped down on the couch to wait for his pizza. And the salad. Per Hunk’s request.
•|~|~|~|•
“Wow, you again Keith? I never would’ve expected you!”
The familiar delivery boy tilted his head and smirked. “You say that as if you didn’t specifically request me.”
“I would never.”
“Sure, Lance.”
“Damn right, sure.” Lance let his hip weight fall to the side and held his arms out, displaying him in all his old hoodie, face masked glory. “By the way, how do I look?”
Honestly, Keith wanted to say a million things. How the light practically made him glow. How the pose he struck was equal parts inviting and playful, it was enticing. He looked beautiful. Perfect. But the instructions said “pretty,” so Keith guessed that’s what he’d say. Lance took notice of his surprised blush and smirked. “Well?”
“You look very pretty tonight, Mr. McClain.”
“Good job, Kogane.”
Keith would be going home with a $20 tip that night. After closing the door, Lance set the pizza on the counter, grabbing a soda from the fridge to drink way too fast a while later. Opening the lid of the box, he noticed something taped to the inside of the lid.
I know it may sound cheesy,
But a guy like you makes romance easy.
xxx-xxx-xxxx Keith
Lance ripped the note off and inspected it closer. A poem, his phone number… Maybe he should try it.
He entered the number into his phone and dialed, waiting for Keith while picking up a slice of pizza.
“Uh, hello?”
“Hi! Is this Keith?”
“Who are you? How did you get my number?”
“It’s Lance. You gave it to me, remember?”
“Oh. Hey Lance.”
“You know, I never put ‘write me a poem and give me your number’ in the instructions.”
Lance could hear Keith chuckle on the other side of the line. “I know. I did that myself.”
An hour, two and a half slices of pizza, and four interruptions later, both boys hung up the phone. Lance flopped on his bed, both him and the pizza box, somehow, in his room. He stared at the ceiling, dazed and smiling like a dork at the thought of seeing Keith again.
Lance hummed into his hands. “I think I’m in love. Oh god, I think I’m in love with Keith.”
•|~|~|~|•
Four days later, Lance ordered another pizza. Special instructions?
Ask me out on a date already, Keith.
The delivery boy smiled down at Shiro’s phone.
He’s more than happy to comply.

Sorry this is late but you are so right in the tags (the memes for post se8 au one)!!! Like Kuron didnt deserve any of that shit both in canon and story wise. Like there is doomed by the narrative and then there is whatever this was, like freaking Haxus was given a moment of silence and Allura reminding Zarkon of his shit was treated as more morally wrong then this. And just half the reason i have this au is because i want Jiro to be angry about this like he deserves. Like he did nothing wrong but my good he should have, he deserves to bite people. He 100% deserve to be angry at Shiro and Allura (and Keith. Keith was the one most assertive that he was Shiro, Keith was the one that basically got him killed. Jiro is taping up Keith and Haggars and a bunch of other people's pictures on a dartboard and throws darts at it as stress relief as we speak)
Ohh I am SO angry at Keith.
“The Black Lion Roared! It claims Keith as BP!”
NO, fools. The Black Lion wants to save the damn clone who quite literally threw his bayard away—at Allura; if anyone was “next in line” it should’ve been her. We all know it. Mir practically animated it that way in addition to him wiping the floor with them but nobody actually got hurt. HELL even while possessed he gave them TIME to Get The Fuck OUT. And Allura had to blow up her castle to fix Lotor’s Major Fuckup, anyway. He could’ve easily crippled the paladins or Voltron by killing them Right Then or taking the bayard or Black Lion with him.
He didn’t. He’s literally playing 3D chess in a split second—while possessed—and he largely goes unsung, anyway.
He keeps the showdown against Keith largely in Keith’s Favor and deliberately missing shots and destroying the cloning facility (rip to the clones. They are innocents in this too.) and. Keith still nearly gets himself killed, anyway.
Black Lion’s the one to save Jiro when he’s finally close enough in-range for the Lion to sense him—despite them not having a true Lion-Paladin bond.
Black Lion saves Shiro (and Green Lion saves Pidge) VERY early on.
Black Lion saves Shiro again—while being the most damaged by that S1 Fight against Zarkon and Haggar—by teaming up with Keith very briefly (then has to go offline again; they need a Castle Pickup.)
Black Lion saves Shiro by uploading him—you mean to tell me a Teleporting Lion who clearly adores THIS Paladin and does not come back online until Every Single Character (save Coran) tries bonding with it would just Lose his body like that? NAH. That’s NOT how the scifi tropes for transporters or transporter delays/accidents even work.
As horrific as it is, if the issue was really Shiro needing a body verses Black Lion wanting to save a clone trying so hard and loving so much, too, um. [gestures at It’s Raining Men errr Shiro Clones.] Black Lion had options. I am not a fan of this particular fanon fix. Those clones deserve a chance to live, too. BUT it does point out the even more obvious flaw in what actually happened canonically.
Buuuuuut, Monsantos didn’t care about that. They just wanted their Officially Bastardized Version Of Keith to be their grimdark edgelord BP self insert. (Oh, and make Allura their Narrative Tool to do it.)
-
…soooo…yeah. Jiro deserves to be fucking pissed at Allura, Shiro, the paladins, and especially Keith.
Shiro has every right to be upset with Jiro. (Misdirected, sure. But, imo he’s allowed to be imperfect without getting villainized for it, y’know? Trauma and processing trauma and healing isn’t tidy whatsoever.)
(And Allura should NEVER have been used by the writers for what happened. Or framed as “just as bad as the galra! Teehee!!” in s8, apparently—I staunchly refuse to watch it.)

i can't believe shiro read an ingo fangirl's account of her "dark, brooding prince" in the daily magazine for fanclub members, got wind of how strong ingo and his brother were (and how polite and genial he was, totally the opposite of ppl's expectations of a frowning man dressed in all black), then decided to make the "brooding" part true and make him the commander of Shiro's evil team (sorta like the prince of an empire right?). Lmao
love the implication here that Ingo has a fanclub. that is so funny to me. Do you think both Ingo and Emmet have fan clubs? Elesa is a card carrying member of them both just because she thinks it's funny.
Anyways, lmao Shiro... fulfilling a very niche dream of a niche group of Ingo fans. The few who mutter to themselves quietly that they don't mind so much this new direction Ingo's personality has gone in. No wonder Kuro takes the Unova popularity poll by storm.

CHAPTER 1 - cr: orphan_account on ao3
Keith woke up thinking he would have a relaxing, perfect day for once. He felt cleansed, Lance being away for a week really calmed things down for Keith. But that had also made it boring.
So, with Lance back from his cousins wedding, Keith would have someone to annoy again. And that would be perfect.
He turned on his phone, turning on his MCR playlist and quickly skimming through the messages from the Voltron group chat. Luckily, he was able to find an important message in the barrage of memes.
BlackSpacePrincess: Hey, can you guys meet me @ my place after school tomorrow??? We need to talk
Allura was the most unproblematic person Keith knew, if she did fuck up, it couldn't have been that bad, right?
He stopped thinking about it and headed to school. And he just couldn't wait to see his rival again. He would never admit it, but Keith had always been just a little bit gay for Lance. Like, have you ever seen that pointy chinned, child??? That's the most attractive little shit that Keith had ever known.
Even though Lance was extremely annoying, he still lowkey loved that asshat.
So, Keith went to school, thinking about his most favorite dumbass.
The day went by faster then normal, most likely from the anticipation of what news Allura had to give out.
And the time came to head over to her house, although it was more like a mansion, everyone headed there.
They met Allura in the living room, where she and Coran sat. She looked up and smile as they entered, her and Coran getting up to allow them to sit down on the couches.
She put her hands together, smiling slightly as she cleared her throat. "Hello everyone. I need your help with something."
"Alright, everyone else can go then, I can help Allura out with my big di-" Shiro punched Lance in the arm, thankfully stopping him from saying what would have proabaly gotten himself killed.
"Anyway…" Allura continued, sending a short glare to Lance, "I may, or may not have entered all of us in a dance competition…" Everyone stared at her for a moment, disbelief settling in.
"What. Did you do Allura?" Pidge questioned, lowering her glasses. "I mean, you're joking, right?"
Allura sighed "Sadly not. The competition is in a week, and I can't go back on my word. I'm sorry."
"I can't dance! I don't have a single flexible bone in my body! I-I'll just look like a beached whale tying to get back to the ocean!" Hunk exclaimed, standing up from the couch. "You can't expect me to do this."
"Jesus Christ…" Keith spoke lowering his head into his hands, generally terrified by the the new information. "I had faith… and this… is what happens"
Lance was the only one who looked generally happy about the news. He gets to twerk and dab in front of at least one hundred people. It was his life dream, his one true goal. It was probably some of the best news he's gotten in his life.
"Come on guys, the sooner we get this done, the sooner the competition will pass and then we can all be done with this." Shiro said rising from the couch, waiting for the rest to soon join him.
They groaned picking up their bags, and followed Allura to the amphitheater so they could practice.
"Alright! We need to learn your dancing abilities. So, show us what you've got." Coran said, clapping his hands together.
Shiro was honestly the only one who didn't look like dying donkey. Hunk had no idea what he was doing, Pidge was trying to do the robot, and Lance was twerking. On Keith.
And Keith kept trying to escape, but there was non.
"I swear to fuck if you don't stop twerking on me, I'll up chuck on you're ugly ass!" Keith screeched, still trying to shove the ass of Lance away from him.
Lance giggled, continuing to grind on his best rival friend. "Hahaha, why don't ya try me bitch!"
Oh, and how Keith would try.
He stripped off his gloves and jacket, causing Lance to be confused. But even through the confusion, Lance kept grinding.
Keith ran over to his backpack, taking out a big ass liter of Coke Cola, and started chugging it.
Why he had a liter of Coke in his backpack, you may ask??? So that way he could throw up on Lance at any given moment.
Everyone stared as at him. When almost half of the soda was gone, Keith moved the bottle away from his mouth, allowing him town to breath, and then continued.
With the bottle almost gone, he stopped drinking, turning his attention to Lance, who was a few yards away.
And Keith started to run towards his significant annoyance.
He felt like his body was doused in gasoline, lit on fire and hit by truck. But none of that would stop him.
Lance, understanding how much danger he was actually in, started running away. But alas, it was too late. Keith tackled him to the ground, and began to throw up.
Keith could hear Lance groan and gag as he tried to not lay in the vomit of Keith.
When Keith had finished, he rolled off of Lance to the right side of him. "So worth it." He mumbled. Keith then proceeded to sit up, and notice the fact that everyone was staring at him in disgust.
"You two boys go and wash up! The rest of us will discuss the competition." Coran said with a weak smile.
When the boys retuned, the rest of voltron was sitting in a circle in the grass.
"Ahh there you are. Let's get you shits updated, shall we?" Allura said cheerfully, the two boys joining in the circle. "There's three different segments to the competition; one is a freestyle group dance, one is a themed group dance, which is hip hop and one is a two person ball room dancing."
Pidge decided to continue where Allura had left off. "You two fucks are gonna dance together."
Keith basically chocked on air, Lance was going into complete denial. He had to do ball room dancing??? With the kid who just threw up on him. No way in a fucking quiznak would he do that.
"What!??!?! Why can't I dance with Hunk?!?!??" He scoffed, looking at his bro "How could you."
Hunk put his hand against his check, his face in shock at the audacity that the beaty eyed child had. "It was a majority dude, I was out numbered."
Lance was about objectify more, but Shiro beat him too it. "Look, I understand you guys might not like it, but it might just make you guys become better friends."
Lance groaned, turning his attention back to Keith.
Keith at the moment was barely breathing. The thought of even being close enough to Lance to smell his axe cologne made him sick, but to be that close, even in a suggestively romantic way, made him want to die.
Maybe it was the fact that he was like, a quarter gay for that dork and getting close would be too much for him to handle. Maybe it was the thought of Keith getting close enough to Lance to feel his breath against his skin. His fingers interlocked with his own. His arms being around Keith's waist.
Maybe it were those simple thoughts that made it hard for Keith to breathe.
He felt his face get heat up, but he turned to meet Lance's gaze, which honestly didn't help at all.
Keith shrugged, rolling his eyes. "Whatever I guess, so long as I never have to be that close to this asshat ever again."
Lance puffed his cheeks, glaring at his new dance partner.
"Alright then, shall we dance?"

Me. Him. You. No.
What if Keith and Lance had been dating and after talking about it, they decided that maybe they’d like to try dating Shiro too? Lance is of course not sure, but Keith… he’d do anything for Keith and two alphas couldn’t be too bad… especially not when one of them had been his hero. Suuuuuper Toxic relationship turned better when Lance realises some truths. Set when we have Kuron… I’m a simp for Kuron belittling Lance because he knows Lance is the heart of the team and Shiro having no idea Kuron is acting out. No thanks canon, you’re nastier than Zarkon’s cockring. Some relationships fail.
*
“Ah, fuck, Keith! Fuck, fuck… fuck, don’t stop!”
Pinned against the shower wall, Lance had his arms loosely looped over Keith’s shoulders. His alpha buried so deeply inside him that all he could do was revel in the pleasure. His body limp and relaxed from the fuck they’d started in the bedroom before their alarm went off and Keith had carried him into shower without stopping or dropping him. Kissing him hard, Lance whined when his alpha broke the kiss. He loved it when Keith went crazy for him
“I’m going to fucking knot you”
“Good… good… Keith, shit… don’t stop. I’m so close. So close…”
Letting him slip down the wall, Keith’s hands were the only thing holding him up. Lance having nothing to grab onto, other than his alpha, and he hadn’t the strength to hold on to anything anyway
“Shit, babe… Do you think this is how Shiro would fuck you? Pin you up and spread these long legs of yours, then fuck you nice and hard how you like?”
“I… don’t know… you’re the one fucking me..”
“I bet you’d take his dick really easy, you get so fucking wet for me. Makes me want to sink to my knees and eat you dry”
That was it, Lance was cumming. Clenching around Keith, his alpha growled, slamming his hips jerkily as he lost his rhythm. He half deserved it for bringing Shiro up, when they’d met he would have placed all the money he had on the Garrison rumours of Keith’s infatuation with Shiro being true. He’d seemed so hungry for his dick that Lance thought he wouldn’t stand a chance.
Pulling out as his knot started to flare, Lance whined as he tried to keep Keith buried inside of him. He knew damn well they had a meeting that morning, but the omega could honestly care less. After 18 phoebs in space, and 15 of those awkwardly dancing around their feelings, Lance felt they had a lot of time to make up for. Keith kissing his wet forehead, before nuzzling into the spot
“Sorry, it sucks for me too, but I’m not getting in trouble again”
“I know… fuck, I don’t think I can walk”
“Oh? Should we take the day off and spend it in bed?”
“If I spread my legs anymore they’re going to fall off. Besides, you said you and Shiro were going to talk”
“Right. I don’t think he’ll say no. I’ve seen how he looks at you”
“You mean how he looks at you. And I’ve seen how you look at him”
Lance wasn’t sure that Keith wasn’t already in love with Shiro. Where he and Keith had worked to be together, Keith was the one who always tended to Shiro when Shiro got his rut. His alpha had said it wasn’t in “that way”, but Lance knew that Shiro had been dating a fellow alpha when he’d been an instructor at the Garrison. Despite being a prime omega and proud of it, he wasn’t sure he was Shiro’s type… even if he’d had some seriously hot wet dreams about their friend
“I thought you were okay with this”
“I didn’t say I wasn’t. I’m nervous, so I’m going to follow your lead”
“You already know I’m crazy about you”
“I do, now come back down here and kiss me properly”
Running late, Lance couldn’t find his boot, sending Keith ahead of him while he looked for it. If things went well then by the end of that day he’d have two boyfriends. Two. He had his hands full with just dating Keith, let alone Shiro on top of it. Rubbing at his neck, his left scent gland was tender. Keith very very careful when he came to his glands. Naturally they could bite each other, provided they didn’t do it at the same time and activate the pheromones that would make the biting mark stick. Instead Keith was crush his gland gently, marking him and helping him keep his omega under control. It wasn’t exactly easy being the only omega on the castle, not with two betas and two alphas, but Lance knew that Keith knew how much he appreciated it. It helped take the edge off his anxieties and hence helped him focus better.
Finding his boot in his own room, rather than Keith’s where it’s partner was, Lance grabbed up his washing pile and dumped it into the laundry chute on his way. He might be a slut for Keith’s monster dick, but his Mami didn’t raise no slob. Knowing the others were already on the bridge, he skipped breakfast in favour of heading straight there, ignoring the growl in his stomach and wobble in his legs. If Shiro and Keith both went into a rut at the same time he was going to be well and truly screwed. He’d never topped Keith, but they’d talked about it, and the one time he’d been going to Keith had gotten him too riled up for him to think about anything other than being thoroughly railed into the alpha’s mattress.
Walking onto the bridge, Shiro was standing next to the projection screen. The omega’s cheeks dusting red at the thought of Keith’s earlier questions. He knew from the communal shower that Shiro was nicely hung. Not too big and not too small… He’d never really thought about having Shiro as a second alpha, not until he’d gone missing and he’d seen how much Keith missed him. Smiling at him as he took his seat, Lance tried not to wince at his protesting arse. He totally didn’t want Shiro worrying
“Lance, nice of you to join us”
“Sorry, I couldn’t find my boot. Then I noticed my washing pile… yeah, I’m sorry. What did I miss?”
Pidge snorted at him, Lance flipping her off. His gremlin was lucky being a beta, not that he had problem with being an omega. He’d never been attacked or had his heart broken, nor did he have a chain of heartbroken lovers left on Earth… but he did have Keith and that felt amazing. Shiro quirked an eyebrow at him flipping off Pidge to which Lance shrugged. Ragging on each other was how he and Pidge showed their love for each other. Shiro scolding them gently before explaining
“No fighting, you two. As I was saying, the Galra have been showing particular interest in a small mining moon according to Matt. We’ll use Green and the cloaking program Pidge has designed to get us close and scope out their numbers before we head in. Ideally we’ll get boots on the ground”
Keith might be the Black Paladin, but his poor boyfriend really wasn’t that great at peopling outside of their circle. With Shiro and Allura practically the faces of the coalition, Keith had been more than happy to share leading them all with his brother. Personally Lance thought his alpha had really stepped into the role when Shiro was gone, but he also understood that sharing the role had taken a lot of pressure off his alpha. Plus it’d freed up their Friday’s for their long term standard date night. Not that they knew if it was actually Friday. They’d picked a night then every several quintants it was date night again. With Shiro helping Keith, running Voltron didn’t take up as much of their date night as before.
“So who’s going down?”
Throwing a wink at Keith, Keith ducked his head. Shiro ignoring his very precise choice of words
“Keith, and Hunk. We need Pidge piloting Green, and Hunk will assist Keith with anything technological. We need you and Allura to remain on standby if Pidge needs back up, or we need to preform an emergency extraction”
Naturally Lance was disappointed. He loved being out in the field with Keith where he could keep a close eye on him and shoot anyone who tried to hurt his alpha
“Pidge is like the best coder in the universe, she’s got this, right Pidgeroon?”
The nickname earned him a scrunched up piece of paper ditched at his head by their resident gremlin
“Pffft. Of course I do. We can finally test out our personal cloaking devices in the field too. If they’re working, I promised I’d send Matt the specs”
Being omegas, Lance had hit it off with Matt. Having been in space longer, Matt has managed to find not just herbs for suppressing heat, but birth control. The small metal capsule in his Lance’s left arm safe guarding him from Keith accidentally knocking him up. With Lotor and Allura dating now, Matt hadn’t come to the castle in far too long
“That’s our Pidge. Have you asked Lotor if he knows anything about this moon?”
“Lotor’s been called away, so we weren’t able to contact him. Can I continue the briefing now?”
Annoying Shiro was the last thing Lance wanted. Not if Keith was going to invite him into their relationship. Sitting back in his chair, the omega waved his hand airily
“I think I’m all caught up now. Sorry for being a pest”
Shiro’s lips twitched like he was trying not to smile before schooling his features back in to “focus mode”. Would Shiro be like Keith in bed? Keith was all about the mutual pleasure, happy to let Lance go down on him or eat him out… sometimes letting him get a cheeky finger in, depending on the mood. Would Shiro want to fuck him? Lance wasn’t sure he wanted Keith impaled on the alpha’s dick before him… the idea souring his mood and he knew he’d have to talk to Keith about what would and wouldn’t be acceptable.
“Good… Now, as I was saying…”
Letting Shiro’s words wash over him, he only got the first few before he was back thinking about how a three way. He and Keith really had worked hard. They’d poured over past missions, dissected the day at the end of the day, and bounced ideas off each all the time. With Shiro there, they’d no longer be relying on rock, paper, scissors, to settle final decisions. Maybe Shiro should go down with Keith and Hunk? Then again, Keith wouldn’t ask Shiro to join them in front of the others… and Hunk wouldn’t let Keith be hurt any more than Keith would let Hunk be hurt. Which reminded him he’d need to check in with Allura more if Lotor wasn’t there. He still had no idea what everyone saw in him, and if he dared to hurt Allura everyone else had to get in line behind Lance because he really would shoot the bastard until he was ten times more holey than holy water.
Letting himself drift in his thought, Lance knew the briefing was over when the screen behind Shiro vanished. Objectively Shiro really was the whole package, complete with a semi mysterious past and muscles made during battle. But was he the right fit for him? Besides, it was entirely possible that Shiro didn’t think of Keith the same way, then he’d have to nurse his boyfriend over a heartbreak that he didn’t want to deal with. Puberty hadn’t done much other than send his libido soaring, but he’d also never felt more comfortable in his own skin… which was largely due to Keith and knowing he found him completely irresistible. What he needed was a Hunk side bar. Hunk would bake and listen, then call him out on his shit the only way that Hunk knew how. Direct brute force to his heart veiled beneath loving words. Seeing Keith trying to catch his eye, Lance pushed himself out of his chair, shooting Keith a wave before moving over to Hunk and taking him the by the arm. Keith cocking his head slightly at Lance not coming to him instead
“Sorry, my love. I need to borrow Hunk for a tick. We won’t be long”
Ever compliant, well, when he needed him to be, Hunk let himself be towed through the castle halls to the kitchen where Lance kept his hold up until he could make a beeline to sit on the kitchen bench. Keith liked to tease him for being dramatic, Lance not disproving him as he let out a long sigh
“Huuuuuuunk. I need advise”
“You need breakfast first. I don’t think anyone believed you lost your boot”
Lifting his left foot, Lance couldn’t remember which boot it was now that he was put on the spot
“But I did. You can check the footage of the hall and all. One was in Keith’s room and the other in mine and I’ve got no idea how that happened”
“Are you pre-heat? You do tend to get forgetful when you are, Bud”
Crossing his arms as he let his leg drop, Lance pouted
“I’m not preheat… but you bringing that up totally makes this easier to spit out. Keith and I are thinking of asking Shiro if he wants to join us”
Mid pulling out his largest metal mixing bowl, Hunk dropped it as he gaped. Yeah. Maybe Lance should have eased him into this after all
“Shiro? But I thought… I mean, he is an alpha… but… Keith’s not hurting you, is he?”
The only time Keith hurt him was either kicking his arse during training or knotting him without slowing down…
“God, no! No. Keith said he noticed the way Shiro’s been looking at us. I mean, I think we all know that Shiro is hot as fuck… but I don’t know. Do you think he even likes me?”
Picking the bowl back up, Hunk moved to start washing it
“I don’t see why he wouldn’t. You are a prime omega”
“Yeah, but… I don’t know. He’s only dated alphas before. I trust Keith completely, and it’s not like we haven’t talked about it a bit. And today I was definitely feeling something”
“La la la la la. Bro… noooo. I don’t want to know that”
“I’m sorry, but you are my very bestest friend in the whole universe. I’ve told you stuff I haven’t even told Keith and you were there for me when I didn’t know how to tell Keith how I felt. I’m nervous, and scared, but I’m like a good way too… but I… I don’t want to rush with Shiro and what if he wants to rush?”
Hunk’s burst of laughter earned him a light kick to the side
“Seriously, this is Shiro. Even when I sleeping I can’t get his whole “patience yields focus” out of my head. I think I woke up the other morning saying it. Do you want another boyfriend?”
“That’s the thing. I love being with Keith. But I’m lusty about Shiro. I don’t want it to be all lust and forced feelings on the side”
“Then you should tell Keith no”
“But I think I kind of want to see”
“Then you have to be prepared for the consequences”
Lance brought his hands up to roughly ruffle his hair
“That’s the problem. I’m not sure if I’m overthinking this or not. I mean, I like Shiro. I like him as an individual. I’d like to know him better… and I feel bad that he hasn’t got someone to share his rut with, not that I’m volunteering to just be a fucking substitute. I mean, I feel bad, but not bad enough I want to climb into his bed for a pity fuck. But I also really love where Keith and I am right now. I love that he’s exploring his Galra side and growing into himself. The sex is amazing, like next level amazing, but we also click in conversation. I think maybe I like Shiro too… What I want to do is take it slow. Start by letting Keith bring the idea to him. Then work on three way dates, as well as me and him time to discuss what he think and what he wants out of this if he does agree. And then maybe progress. Is that being too clingy? Am I being too clingy? I feel like I’m being clingy?”
Hunk rinsed the bowl off, before taking up the tea towel to start drying, Lance hoping this meant space pancakes because Hunk seriously made the best space pancakes imaginable
“I think you’re actually being mature about your approach towards Shiro. You know we all support you and Keith. You’re both crazy for each other and as crazy as each other. All of us were quintants away from locking you in a room together until you both figured it out. If the chemistry isn’t there, then it’s not going to go anywhere good”
“Exactly. See, this is why I know I can count on you. Buuuut, does this mean you think I should?”
“Bro, I’m not saying anything. If you want to, I’ll support you, if you don’t, I’ll still support you. And here I was thinking that you were going to give me the lecture about keeping Keith safe”
Aw. His poor bro. Hunk had always been a nervous baker… He’d been thinking with his stomach and his heart, not his head. Sliding off the bench, Lance bear hugged his best friend
“Hunky Hunk, no. Not for a moment have I doubted you. I know that if anything were to happen, both of you would have each other’s backs no matter what. And no matter the outcome you’re always, always my best friend. I am however totally jealous… you guys get to go look cool while I’m stuck here. Are you making space pancakes?”
Laughing as he dragged Lance along with him to the pantry cupboard, Hunk was like the coolest ever
“I’ve got you, man. I know you always get nervous when Keith’s out here”
“I thought I hid that so well”
“About as well as the way you look at him. Now, go sit down”
“Nooo, breakfast always tastes better when we cook together”
“Lance, I’m not giving you the recipe”
“You’re so mean to me. Fine, keep your little secrets. I’ll just be dying on the kitchen bench”
“Or you could go find Keith”
“But then I can’t spend as much time with you. Besides, I’m too hungry to walk”
“And that has nothing to do with what you and Keith were doing this morning?”
“Nope. And double besides, you need to tell me all about Shay. I miss her and I know you’ve been talking to her without me”
Hunk sighed at him, Lance finding himself smacked on the forehead
“Just go sit down already. I’ll be out when I’ve found everything”
*
“Now, don’t take your helmet off for anyone. And no getting shot. And make sure you keep your comms on. And make sure you watch Hunk’s back as much as you’re watching the front”
Listening as Lance went through his before mission worries, Keith smiled at his omega. Lance always making sure that he absolutely got the message before he’d let him out of his room after helping him don his armour. He seriously had the very best boyfriend in the universe.
“Excuse me, are you even listening?”
Leaning in and stealing a kiss, Keith really couldn’t stop smiling. Lance was his everything. His horny little monster who was no push over. Thankfully he wouldn’t be out in the field with them, Keith not wanting to admit the missions where they were going in blind absolutely terrified him. Lance gave him so much love and support, and to lose that or have him hurt… He never wanted to make him sad
“Lance, I’m listening. I’m going to be fine. I’m going to come home and you’re going to be waiting. And it’s all going to be fine”
“Mmm, I know. It’s not like a Blade mission where I have to share you, and you’re off like a bajillion miles away”
Lance didn’t love his Blade mission, but he also knew Keith needed to understand his Galra side. Galra puberty seemed to consist of getting ridiculously strong and his sense increasing to nearly being uncomfortable. That faded away when he was with Lance. Too many nights for his liking he’d spiked fevers from his body trying to cope with all the changes, Lance there to cool him down and hold him until they passed. But with the Blade and the team it was hard. It was harder still when he found himself focusing on Shiro a little too much. He’d never been with another alpha, he knew Shiro. He knew him probably as well as he knew himself. There was something there between the three of them, and he had full confidence Shiro would spoil Lance like the diva he was. Stealing half a dozen more small kisses, Lance started giggling as he tried to pretend he was joking and not entirely serious
“Nope. I’m going to be fine, babe. I’m not about to leave you all alone”
“You’d better not. I’d shrivel up and die. Now get out there and kick some bad guy butt. Unless you don’t have to, then sneak away quietly with that intel”
“You know I will”
“That’s my man”
Lance’s faith him was scary in the beginning. He didn’t get it and the voices in his head hadn’t been sure he wasn’t being mocked. No. He hadn’t liked at it all. Not to begin with. Now Keith treasured it. He valued Lance’s opinion and nothing got him hot like his boyfriend scolding him or correcting a plan issue he’d overseen. Lance had faith in all of them, but he really seemed to come alive when they were nutting out a mission plan… sometimes too alive. Lance was warm, fun, and bubbly. His love soothing something deep inside of him as he fell more and more for him. He’d felt unfaithful when he’d started really noticing Shiro, but he’d never give up on Lance… and he wouldn’t lie either. Truthfully telling his boyfriend how he felt. He didn’t blame Lance when Lance said he needed a little time to adjust. Keith knew what Shiro was to Lance…
Flicking him in the forehead, Lance was pouting hard. Keith apologising with a kiss
“Sorry, babe. I was just thinking about tonight”
“I figured as much. But I need you to focus on the mission. I need you to come back”
“And I will. No making a move on Shiro without me”
“It’s not my fault if he can’t resist all this”
Resisting “all this” was hard. Lance kept himself looking good for him himself. He’d told Keith straight up that him liking what he saw was just an added bonus on Keith’s part. He didn’t want Lance to change for him. And if Lance wanted to change, they’d be having a very heavy discussion before he’d support him. Not that he wouldn’t. He just didn’t want Lance thinking that there was something wrong with him. Letting his hands slide down to Lance’s arse, he groped his boyfriend
“All of this is mine”
“And all of you is going to get railed into the mattress if you don’t move that sweet arse of yours”
If Lance was anymore tempting then they’d really never ever leave his room. Bringing his right hand up, Keith fisted Lance’s hair, kissing his omega hard and deep to make sure Lance got the firm message that he was absolutely his, before pulling back and chuckling his omega’s lust laden eyes
“Understood, sir. I’ll see you soon”

Keith Kogane - I’m Not Going Anywhere
Not Going Anywhere
A/N: Modern life AU.
Also, any genders and pronouns are acceptable to request. If not specified, I default to female, because that’s the majority of reader inserts in my experience.
Summary: You’ve been dating Keith for about six months, but you’ve only recently met his group of friends. He’s worried that they each have more to offer you than he does, and his insecurities eat away at him until you calm him down.
Words: 2,063
“Your girlfriend is coming to the party, right?”
Keith froze, glancing up at Shiro where the older man stood beside the stove, preparing a pot of spinach artichoke dip. He was a disaster at cooking actual food, but he’d managed to learn to prepare dips like a boss.
“Uh…” was all the black-haired boy managed in response, shoving a spoonful of cereal into his mouth.
“Come on, Keith,” Shiro chided gently, employing his best Older Brother voice. “You’ve been seeing this girl for, what, six months now? I think it’s time I met her. And what better time to introduce her to the gang than at your birthday party?”
“Do I have to introduce her to everyone?” Keith whined, glaring down at his breakfast. “Can’t she just meet you and be done with it?”
Shiro sighed, turning to argue when he caught sight of his brother’s expression. Keith wasn’t one for expressing his emotions, so Shiro had learned early on how to read the arch of his brow and the shine of his eyes. Keith currently looked crestfallen, which given the circumstances meant that insecurities were buzzing around inside his head.
“It’s going to be fine, Keith,” the older boy commented, taking a seat across from Keith at the table. “Everyone is going to love her, and she’s going to love your friends.”
“That’s what I’m worried about,” was all Keith murmured before he stood, setting his cereal bowl in the sink before turning to skulk down the hallway towards his room.
“I’d love to go to his birthday party!” you squealed into the phone, balancing it between your ear and your shoulder so you had free use of your hands. “I’m almost done decorating his cake. I could bring it with me!”
“He’d love that,” Shiro chuckled on the other end. “We’re not a baking-inclined family, so it’s always store-bought cakes for us.”
“He told me he just wanted to do something simple to celebrate with me,” you returned, swirling icing atop the cake to add calligraphic decoration to Keith’s name. “I wonder why he didn’t tell me you were throwing him a party.”
“He doesn’t like being the center of attention,” Shiro reasoned.
You hummed in agreement. “That’s true.” Setting the piping bag on the counter, you paused, a frown forming on your lips. “It’s not… He wants me to come, right? He won’t be mad that you invited me?”
Shiro sighed into the receiver, and you bit your lip nervously. “He’ll be upset that I went behind his back, but I know him very well, and I think he’d enjoy the party a lot more if you were there. He’s just nervous about you meeting his friends. They can be a handful.”
“If you’re sure,” you replied. The last thing you wanted to do was upset your boyfriend while trying to celebrate his birthday. “I’ll be there. With a cake.”
“Perfect,” the man on the phone replied. “I’ll see you tonight. It’ll be great, I promise.”
You hung up the phone and set it on the counter, admiring your handiwork on your boyfriend’s cake. Exhaling softly, you tried to believe Shiro’s words. Everything would be fine.
Your heart hammered in your chest as you approached the front door of Shiro and Keith’s shared house. Carefully balancing the cake with one hand, you raised the other to knock on the door, waiting patiently but anxiously for someone to answer. The door opened to reveal Shiro, smiling widely upon seeing you on the other side.
“(y/n)! It’s so great to meet you!” he greeted enthusiastically. “I’m Shiro, Keith’s older brother. I apologize if I startled you with that phone call earlier – I wasn’t sure Keith would actually follow through and invite you.”
“He didn’t,” you giggled. “I don’t mind at all. I’ve been wanting to meet you for months.”
“Let me take that for you,” he offered, easing the cake out of your hold. He headed inside, nodding for you to follow him. You closed the door behind you, following the tall man- like seriously, how was he that tall?-  into the kitchen. There stood a thicker boy, nearly as tall as Shiro, stirring and chopping like a professional chef.
“That cheese sauce smells amazing, Hunk,” Shiro complimented the cook, placing the cake on the counter.
“It’s almost done- ooh, where’d the cake come from?” the cook inquired.
         “Keith’s girlfriend.”
The spoon being used to stir the cheese sauce fell to the floor with a clink, gooey cheese splashing all over the tile.
         “Keith’s what?!”
The tall, tanned cook spun on his heel, a grin splitting his lips as he caught sight of you. “She’s real!”
Shiro laughed softly, stepping closer to you. “Hunk, this is (y/n). (y/n), this is Hunk, our resident chef. He shares a few classes with Keith.”
“I’m an engineering major,” Hunk explained, offering his hand. You placed your comparably tiny hand in his, giggling softly.
“It’s nice to meet you. Keith has mentioned your cooking.”
Hunk’s eyes sparkled at the confirmation that the emotionally constipated raven appreciated his food before he turned back to the stove.
“Hey, Shiro, what-“ Keith stopped in his tracks as he entered the kitchen, his eyes widening as he stared at you. “(y/n)? What are you doing here?”
“I invited her because I knew you wouldn’t,” Shiro explained.
“It’s okay that I’m here, right, babe?” you questioned, brows furrowing with worry as you took Keith’s hands in yours.
“Babe?” teased an unfamiliar voice. “Keith lets someone call him babe?” A tall, thin brunet sauntered into view, resting his elbow on your boyfriend’s shoulder. “Hey, who’s the hottie? She’s- ow!”
Keith’s elbow collided with the brunet’s rib, and he stepped away.
“Yeah, it’s okay,” Keith murmured, lacing his fingers with yours, but you could hear the uncertainty in his voice. You stood up on your toes, pressing your lips to his, and he melted into the gesture despite having an audience. The brunet from before whistled at the sight, and Keith pulled back with a glare in his eyes and a blush on his cheeks.
“I’m (y/n,” you introduced, offering your hand.
“The name’s Lance,” the tan brunet grinned, taking your hand in his and lightly kissing your knuckles. You simply raised a brow in response, unsurprised when Keith ripped Lance’s hand away from yours.
“She’s taken,” he growled, wrapping an arm around your waist. You giggled softly, resting your head on Keith’s shoulder.
“Is that everyone?” you inquired, looking towards Shiro.
“Hunk!” another voice called from the hallway. “Are the nachos done? I’m starving- oh, hey.”
         Finally, someone not insanely tall.
“I’m Pidge,” they offered, lifting their hand to their head in a salute. “You must be Keith’s girlfriend.”
“(y/n),” you countered. “Are you another friend of his?”
Pidge stole a chip from the bowl on the table, popping it into their mouth. “If that’s what we’re calling it. I’m friends with Lance and Hunk, and they kinda forced Keith to join the group.”
“I encouraged it,” Shiro replied. “My brother needs social skills.”
“I have plenty of social skills,” Keith grumbled in response.
Lance snickered loudly, Pidge choked on a ship, and Hunk chuckled from his place at the stove.
“I got myself a girlfriend without your interference, didn’t I?” your boyfriend defended, his grip around your wait tightening.
“How did you two meet, anyway?” Pidge questioned.
“I’m an art major,” you replied. “We met in Interpretive Painting.”
“Keith takes art classes?” Lance gasped, his voice raising several octaves.
         “Makes sense,” Pidge shrugged.
“Interpretive Painting?” Hunk repeated. “That sounds like fun.”
“Ah, someone who will encourage my brother to keep working on his art,” Shiro smiled. “I already love her.”
Keith used his hand on your waist to guide you away from the others, leading you to the living room. He sat on the couch, pulling you onto his lap, securing his arms around you. Your own arms wrapped around his neck, your fingers toying with his thick raven hair. His nose nuzzled into your neck as he inhaled deeply, enjoying the scent of your body wash.
“Why didn’t you want me to meet them?” you inquired softly. “They seem nice.”
“Too nice,” he murmured against your skin. “They’ll take you away from me.”
You pulled away from Keith just enough to lift his head, caressing his jaw with your hand, gazing softly into his violet eyes. “You don’t really think that, do you?”
His gaze dropped somewhere behind you – a tell that the current situation made him vulnerable and insecure.
“You heard them in there. I’m not social. How many times have you told me I suck at texting back? If you hadn’t been so friendly, I wouldn’t have even been able to ask you out.”
“So?” you questioned, brushing your thumb across is cheekbone. “I’m dating you, aren’t I? If you being anti-social was an issue, I wouldn’t have said yes.”
He sighed, dropping his forehead to your shoulder. “Lance is better at romance and dating. Pidge is smart, and you like a lot of the same games. Hunk can cook actual meals. They have more to offer you.”
Your heart broke at his honesty. You knew how hard it was for Keith to be so open, even with you. He must have been dreading the day you met his friends if he was this concerned about it.
Taking his face in your hands, you lifted his head until you can access his mouth. You gently pressed your lips to his, pouring your emotions into the kiss. He sighed softly against your lips, his arms tightening around your waist. You let one hand slide back to tangle in his hair, gently tugging on the strands.
“I’m not going anywhere,” you promised between kisses. “I love you, Keith. Befriending your friends means I get to spend more time with you and learn more about you. They’re not going to take me from you, I promise.”
“Dinner is done!” Hunk’s voice called from the kitchen.
You slid off of Keith’s lap, much to his dismay, and offered him a hand. “Come on, babe. Let’s go eat.”
He took your hand, lacing your fingers and squeezing softly as he followed you into the kitchen. Chips, cheese, meat, and vegetables decorated the table as a homemade nacho bar for everyone to dig into. Keith’s amethyst eyes danced around the kitchen, landing on an unfamiliar container on the counter.
“What’s that?” he inquired, turning his gaze to Hunk.
         Hunk grinned. “(y/n) brought it.”
“It’s your cake,” you replied, shoving a fully-coated nacho into your mouth.
“You made me a cake?” Keith questioned, his eyes softening as he looked at you.
“The plan was for us to have a private party after you were done here,” you shrugged. “When Shiro invited me, I figured I might as well bring the cake.”
Keith dipped his head, pressing a loving kiss to your lips. Lance and Pidge cat-called from somewhere behind you, but Keith didn’t seem to mind. Shiro smiled from behind Keith, shaking his head softly.
After dinner and cake were thoroughly enjoyed, you followed Keith and his friends to the living room to watch movies. He sat on the couch and you reclaimed your place on his lap, snuggling into his chest. His hands intertwined with yours, his fingertips brushing your knuckles, and you peppered soft kisses to his jaw, reminding him that you were his.
While everyone was enthralled in the movie, you turned to face your boyfriend. You untangled a hand from his in order to lift it to his face, cupping his cheek. He turned his gaze from the movie to look at you, a soft expression in his eyes that only you were allowed to see. You shifted in his lap, pulling his lips down to yours. He tilted his head to deepen the kiss, gently nipping at your lower lip with his teeth. You were tempted to give in until you recalled your company, reluctantly breaking the kiss and settling back against his chest.
“I’m not going anywhere,” you murmured softly, squeezing his hand as you watched the movie. The kiss he pressed to the side of your head told you that he understood, and while you knew his insecurities wouldn’t be magically washed away, you also knew that he was trying and that was more than enough for you.

THE TWO ALLURAS
So, here’s a little detective work I did on some (suspected) altered scenes in the last episode of Voltron Legendary Defender. I’m very new to this show (yep, years later… I know… facepalms, better later than never) - I watched it for the first time a couple of months ago and since then I’m obsessed with finding out more about the true finale of the show.
Before I start doing a little slideshow proof of altered animation in S8 last episode, I’d like to give a little intro into my journey here.
- I come from being a fan of an 80’s anime called Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs (my avatar name here pays tribute to one of its characters), to being an even bigger fan of VLD. Not by pure coincidence. SRatSS is owned by WEP, and going down the Netflix “suggested” shows, DotU sent me to VLD. It grew on me really fast. Like binge-watch fast. Unfortunately, the ending completely clipped my wings.
- The first reason why I started feeling (first it was a feeling) that something was wrong was the complete mismatch between the tragic finale of Allura, a goddess leaving the show with the saddest drawn face (and a missing in action Lotor, for that matter) and the super-cheesy optimistic, last minute slapped ending slides showing the ‘successful’ future lives of the Paladins, completely at odds with their previous careers (Keith, a rebellious half-Galra now running a humanitarian relief organization? Lance the sharpshooter with a rake in his hand?? What the heck, man? Shiro, the larger than life figure in the show, marrying some random guy we never learned about before? Seriously, I kept saying at the end: “Is this a joke??” It felt insulting on so many levels, rushed, like “let’s end this and get over with it” )
- Another big reason why I felt this was not supposed to be the real finale was my absolute gut feeling that a kids’ show needs a different kind of moral closure, based on classic arcs that would fit stories I’ve been used to reading in my childhood. After all, it’s rated 7+ . In my opinion, from the perspective of a 7 year old kid, S8 is a horror story, glossed over with a ‘happy’ ending. Thus, it should not be rated 7+. But hey, maybe I’m just too old-fashioned.
- In my frantic googling about VLD, I stumbled upon TeamPurpleLion’s website, which completely opened a new level of information and confirmation for me. The first article I read was the one about the The Dark Youth and Heroine’s Arc, which went straight to my pain point, confirming my intuitions about how a well-written story for children and teens should look like. Then, the ‘Seek Truth’ article about all the animation edits totally solidified my beliefs. Then followed the analysis about the Feud episode, the Clear Day episode and the ‘meta within a meta’ stuff going on there… All the foreshadowing, the purple lion toys, the parallels between different heroes’ arcs… The VLD staff tweets and instagram posts in total contradiction with the release of the season… The last nails that hit the coffin were the interviews with LM and JDS and their own “feud” with the inter-dimensional beings at the top of the ladder, which were absolutely eye-opening. It made total sense now, and I immensely appreciate the work that TPL has done unearthing all these facts. I feel like the EP’s need so much more recognition for the work and love they poured into this show. Not to mention the animation, which is a work. of. art. Studio Mir forever.
- Anyways, here’s me, 4 years later, rocking a boat that has long sailed away… Being so late (I usually am late to a lot of new things haha) I feel like I’m sort of lonely in my quest.
—————
But recently, I found out that the FreeVLDS8 party is still alive and kicking, so I’m emboldened to throw in some of my own discoveries as well. If this stuff has already been unearthed, disregard my little detective work that I did here. But if it’s useful new stuff, I hope it will benefit somehow in the grand puzzle you guys have set about to solve.
In the past couple of months, I’ve read tons of articles and metas, interviews, videos. Pros and cons about the EP’s, about the animation, interviews with actors, tweets, etc etc. All the good stuff piled up in the past 4 years that I completely missed. My head is spinning right now.
So rewatching the last episode and being aware of all the edits discovered so far, I stumbled upon some animation flaws that I believe Studio Mir would not let out their door. Disclaimer: I am a professional artist myself. I do not work in animation, but I did illustrate kids books for a while, and being a graduate of an Art School, I believe I have a bit of knowledge about the laws of perspective, proportions and character design. Keep a pin in each of these three, because there are flaws about every one of them in the next two screencaps. Plus more flaws on top of these three. Whew!
________
Let’s look at a couple of screen shots I did from S8 final episode, when Allura and the Palladins talk to Honerva. Go to the scene where Allura starts saying “there is beauty in their flaws” (first screenshot below - I will call it Screenshot A)
Tumblr media
And now take a look, a minute later, when she is doing her mind meld with Honerva (Screenshot B). It’s supposed to be the same scene, but the image is terribly zoomed in, with Lance almost completely cropped out. There is a slight camera tilt effect, but the image remains zoomed with a piece of Lance on the left. Who would do that in cinematography?
Tumblr media
So I tried to see what will happen if I “un-zoom” and add Lance back into the picture. I approximated where the original shot was relative to the whole image by keeping Honerva in the center line of the image, to make sense compositionally. And voila (Screenshot B zoomed out below)
Tumblr media
Here’s Screenshot A, also zoomed out, below:
Tumblr media
Now, in both recreations, Honerva is right in the center. Before, the center of the image was somewhere between Allura and Honerva. Doesn’t it make more sense now, with Honerva in the middle? It makes sense compositionally, but also from a storytelling point of view. We, the watchers are positioned right behind Honerva, at her eye level, seeing the Paladins “through her perspective”. A very empathetic way of making the viewer feel closer to her character.
And now, of course, you’ve all noticed the big red ‘elephant’ in the room, in the newly created space to the right. I am not making any speculations who it might be, because things are actually more complicated than they seem. Wait, Hunk wants to say something:
“Uh, guys, did you notice Pidge next to me looks shorter in B than in A? And what’s up with her not standing up straight in A? Draw a line from her nose to her belt clip. Since she’s facing you full front, it should be vertical, right? Um, well, it’s not.”
Hunk is right. Pidge tilts towards right, she looks like a crooked sticker, plastered on a wall.
———
OK, let’s move on to the next issue. The “Alluras”. Here’s where proportions, character design and perspective come into play. I will call them Allura A and Allura B, from their corresponding screencaptures.
Let’s start with proportions. First, scroll back up to the first two image captures, take a look at them, and then come back and look at this:
Tumblr media
I juxtaposed the two Alluras, rescaled so that both of them have the same shoulder width, so X is equal to Y. The desaturated Allura is B, and the colorful one is A.
I placed both of them with their belts at the same horizontal line. Behold, what do we have here? Z is not equal to T, so Allura B has a longer upper body than Allura A. Also, look at the hips, and where the crotch starts.
Now, some of you might argue that this is a perspective distortion, because Allura B is the one that just walked forward a few steps, toward the viewer, so she should grow taller and the proportions might get warped a bit. Well, if it were a forced perspective, from a very close angle, I’d partially agree. But this is not the case. There are tons of forced perspective shots in VLD (especially fight scenes), but this is not one of them. So in this case, if Allura comes forward, she does indeed grow taller, but she should keep her proportions, so X/Z =Y/T (Pidge just confirmed, my math is solid). (and no, please don’t tell me that Allura shapeshifted, just because she’s Altean and decided to do that, without reason).
Moving on to the next issue within the same image above: character design. Compare the two Allura faces… One is round, one is more elongated. Why this sudden transformation, when this is supposed to be one continuous scene? I doubt the studio animators would do something like this. Which one looks more like Allura? I’d argue that the Allura A (the colored one) does. She has a more round, feminine face, with a sweetness in her features. Then who’s that guy in B? Oops, I said guy. Because the whole physical appearance is that of a man. Tall and slim. Wondering who he might be? I’d humbly guess Lotor, but if you find me a more important tall and slim Galra or Altean character that would get access to the Connected Consciousness, then go ahead and write a fanfic story about it.
A little thing I just noticed: Allura B’s neck is crooked, not going up straight from the shoulders into the head. Drawn in a rush? Drawn over Lotor in a rush?
The third issue with the Alluras, and with the other Paladins as well, is perspective. Here’s a little sketch I did over Screenshot B, to understand what I’m talking about:
Tumblr media
The horizontal red line is the horizon line. That is the line where our (the viewer’s) eyes are . At the same level with Honerva’s. The vanishing point should be right in the middle of the line. On the right side, in red, I sketched the paladin suits, with their collars as they should look if properly following the laws of perspective. Anything below the horizon line should look like the collar below, anything above should look like the one above, in perspective. Check out which ones match… And then check below if Allura A fairs better:
Tumblr media
Indeed she does! And doesn’t she look so natural? Coincidentally, she is Allura A, the real one, not the redrawn Lotor. But oh, wait, Lance, Shiro, and Hunk don’t have correctly drawn collars. What a mess! (this reminds me of Slav saying: did you wear the right socks today?) Let’s play a game: how many of them are wearing the right ‘socks’ in these images?
Again, some of you might say, “c’mon, such a tiny detail, the illustrators and animators probably didn’t even think about this kind of stuff.” Oh no, no, no. This is basic skill. Like, the ABC of drawing. You don’t mess up basic perspective drawing, if this is your daily job. Again, I am convinced that Studio Mir did not release this version. It was altered post production. If I’d have to guess, because this is one of the last animated scenes of the show, they were getting very close to the deadline. They were tired, overworked, most likely dissatisfied that they had to butcher a wonderfully crafted show that everyone worked so hard on. I can even imagine some red-eyed employee with a big cup of coffee, at midnight, in an empty office, tracing over Lotor’s drawing.
Whew, are you ready for another weird flaw?
Look at their eyes. Where is each of them looking, both in A and in B? Well, some of them are looking up, some of them at Honerva. What is up there, that Shiro and Keith seem to watch intently in shot A? Another mishap during animation? Or, they’re just stock images plastered like Pidge? Not sure. Although, at a closer look, Keith in image A is wearing the right socks - his collar is drawn in the right perspective. I’m just speculating, but it seems they’re looking at a tall structure. At that point in the plot, it’s probably Honerva’s mech or Voltron. Who knows.
Honestly, this puzzle is missing so many pieces. Are all these Paladin drawings basically reshuffles of a scene that evolved from us looking down at the Paladins from a higher vantage point (probably Honerva in her mech) and then gradually descending until she is on her knees and we’re looking up at the Paladins? Because judging from the perspective of their collars and the fact that their eyes are either looking up or down, it might seem so. And, as per previous analysis articles, someone said the transition from their fight for realities to them all being in the Connected Consciousness plane looks very abrupt, so there must have been some other action going on there. This seems like the most reshuffled muppet show of the S8, down to the last character on the screen.
Also, a few more things and I promise I’ll wrap up.
If we assume that Allura B was actually Lotor, then it makes sense that Lotor goes and does the little “mind meld” with Honerva (forgive my nerdy Star-Trekky reference). He did say, somewhere in S6, that when the time will come, he might have pity on her. This would beautifully close the circle of that arc, but would also mirror Allura’s mind-meld with Zarkon, when she did her little trip into Honerva’s mind, I can’t remember which episode. This would also not look cheap at all, because right before the mind meld, after each Paladin does their own plea, Honerva says: “You think your words mean anything to me?” No, their words don’t, but Lotor’s words and touch DO. And knowing how vitriolic she can be, I bet she won’t accept Allura touching her so easily, but coming from her son… I bet she would. She looks surprised and not irritated at all. Would she be like that with Allura, after she just fought them almost to death and told them that their words mean nothing to her? But Lotor touching his mother, it makes more sense, doesn’t it? The wayward daughter of Altea heals the father, and the lost son of Daibazaal heals the mother. How beautiful. Psychology at its best. Oh, but these are just my speculations…
I’m not sure if Allura’s VA was called to record more lines back in 2018. If she was, then the lines she said about Lotor who may have been misguided but ultimately wanted to preserve life might be just a way through which the creators left the door a little open to interpretation about Lotor. But if that was the actual original, unaltered line, then Allura is talking about him in the past tense. So then… was the Lotor behind Allura B just a ghost, like Zarkon and the old Paladins in the other episodes? So, just a supposition, completely unsupported by any palpable facts, but it’s fun to explore: Lotor lost his body, but Allura rescued and redeemed his consciousness, not from the Sincline, but actually from Honerva’s mind (I’ll explain in just a sec); and then together they fight through all realities and defeat Honerva. And then Allura rejoins him in the afterlife. And this is the end of a coherent story. If I remember correctly from a previous episode, when we saw Honerva standing in front of Lotor’s melted corpse (which makes no sense to throw in there from a narrative standpoint unless something else happens further along), didn’t she say something like “soon, we’ll be together, my son”. What was that all about? Did she actually trap his consciousness into her own mind like she did with the old paladins? Was that her possessive way of being “together” with someone? And then Allura goes on and frees him from the trap and THAT’S when Honerva goes ballistic looking for another Lotor in another reality, because she lost the object of her obsession. And that would explain why they ended up in the Connected Consciousness in the last episode, to heal her of her vicious possessiveness. Just a weird thought, I might be completely wrong.
If anyone has the patience to untangle who is who and who goes where in these two images, go on, give it a shot. I know I’m too tired. But nevertheless, have fun!
I noticed these glitches but wasn’t convinced that anyone is still out there to read my ramblings, after so many years. Now I believe there are still people that care, so I decided to go forward with my little analysis.
Thank you @leakinghate for relighting the flame of the FreeVLDS8 in 2022. Wishing TeamPurpleLion all the best in their new effort! It means so much to me, especially coming in as a fresh fan of VLD.
