I do like complaining about t*en w*lf, it’s a hobby honestly. I’ve been thinking a lot about the parents lately, so I decided to give my brutally honest opinions about each of them. In case you don’t want to read all of my opinions, TLDR I don’t like most of the parents.
If you do want to hear my reasonings, I’ll put it under the cut because there is a lot of negativity.
These are my opinions and I’m explaining why I feel the way I do. You are by no means obligated to agree with me, and I’m not saying your opinions are wrong, all I ask is you are respectful.
This is my interpretation of the characters and their actions (as parents, not every single decision they’ve ever made). My interpretation may be influenced by my own experiences. If you disagree, I welcome you make your own post. If you really hate what I have to say, block me.
I do try to look at good and bad parenting decisions from each parent, but depending on what the act itself is, some hold more weight than others, as well as the number of good vs bad.
Let’s start with the dads
Noah Stilinski
Good
Said he would burn the sheriff’s station to the ground to protect Stiles
Was frantically looking for him when he went missing (on multiple occasions)
Pointed a gun at Chris when he thought he was going to shoot “Stiles”
Tried to help him get out of the train station
Stopped drinking (this is twofold, it was good for Stiles and for himself)
Bad
In regards to the first point, he followed it up with ‘a good way to forgive yourself is to forgive someone else.’ He made it all about Scott. I know he wasn’t aware of what Scott said, but Scott doesn’t need to be forgiven
“I don’t want to feel worse by yelling at my son” this sounds to me like he blames Stiles for getting fired. He shouldn’t have been fired, but he also shouldn’t be blaming Stiles
Stiles comes to him with XYZ and Noah doesn’t believe him. Scott comes to him with XYZ and he believes him. Not cool to believe someone else over your own kid, especially when they said the same thing. This happens multiple times
Edit to add: He basically calls Stiles a liar and never apologizes for it
Noah agreed to let Stiles to go Eichen. Even if he tried to back out later, he still let him go through with it
This one seems more minor, but not telling your kid who you’re going on a date with. Kinda awkward that it’s his crush’s mom
He leaves Stiles with Claudia. He thinks his job is more important than to support his son and his dying wife. He also did this knowing that Claudia assaulted Stiles. That’s not a great way to say you care about your kid (Noah, not Claudia, her too though)
“Thank you, son I should have had.” This is not funny. I don’t give a fuck what Stiles said before this. That’s not funny. You don’t joke about wanting someone else to be your kid. My dad made it very obvious he loved my step-brothers more than me and that shit is painful. (Additionally I’m sick of seeing “if you think that’s bad parenting, you had good parents.” I think that’s bad parenting and I had a shitty parent. There are real people in real life whose parents don’t like them and wish to trade them for a different kid. I think this is one of the most hurtful things spoken in the show)
He doesn’t know where Stiles is (in "Fury”) when the gun goes off and he calls out for Scott first. Before Stiles. He cares more about Scott’s than Stiles’s well-being. Even if he did know where Stiles was, you call out for your kid first to make sure they’re okay
Yelling “I’m the dad, you’re the son!” Obviously Stiles does not feel like a child in this relationship. He’s too busy being an adult
Additional note: I have no problem with Noah acting like a father figure to those who don’t have dads or good dads, but he should really focus on being a good dad to his own kid first. So far he’s not doing a bang up job.
Chris Argent
Good
Allowed her to take mental health days come season 3
Bad
Told Allison she was responsible for the deaths of everyone if she didn’t tell him who the kanima was. Even if that was true, saying that to your kid’s face and showing them a corpse killed by the kanima is not a good move
Kidnapped his daughter, probably traumatizing her, and implied he would be forced to kill her if she were to change into a werewolf (the last part screams conditional love. And don’t come at me with “that was season 2, he changed later.” No, he didn’t. Chris is not an ally to werewolves, only Scott, and I will fight you)
Emotionally manipulated her into not seeing Scott again by threatening to kill him. (He’s also a hypocrite because in season 1 Kate also held a gun to Scott’s head and he said that wasn’t okay. Doesn’t matter if he wasn’t going to shoot Scott, unlike his sister, threatening it is bad enough)
Allison tells Scott not to laugh when she talks about archery, she also tells Jackson not to laugh before she confides something in him. This sounds like Chris and Victoria blow her off. She still has a box of art she produced from over her life claiming all of it was terrible. It sounds like Chris and Victoria said that to her. If she really truly hated it, she probably wouldn’t keep it. At least not in her room, maybe in storage, but at the moment it’s sitting there as a reminder she’s not good enough
Hid a lot of information from her (the truth about Victoria, the hunter thing – if she was meant to carry on the job, he waited an awful long time to get her into it, but whatever. The fact that he knew about the telluric currents and Gerard being alive)
This is the big one. This is it for me. She told him she loves him and HE DOESN’T SAY IT BACK!!!!
You tell your kid you love them, especially if they say it first. He kissed her head and fucking walked away. I don’t care what your familial love language is, if you can’t tell a person that you either helped make and/or raised or whatever that you love them, don’t be a parent. That shit hurts
He didn’t go to her when she died. She died in Scott’s arms. Chris stood there and watched. Maybe he was in shock, but that doesn’t sound like very good CoMpArTmEnTaLiZiNg. That would have been a good time to say you love your kid, but no. (If you believe the unreliable narrator theory, I certainly do, maybe he did go to her, but this isn’t what we saw in the episode.)
Peter Hale
Good
Wanted to connect with his child when he found out he had one
Was willing to do a big favor for Lydia just to get the name of his child (which was a big deal to him)
Spent thousands of dollars (and we all know how stingy Peter is) to get information on her
Was willing to get burned alive again to see his daughter (6.05)
Used himself as a distraction for the Ghost Riders to save Malia. Twice (the first time was when they were in the tunnels, and then fought them again in the library)
Similarly Peter, who just got done saying he wasn’t sure how Malia could be his daughter since she lacks self-preservation instincts, is willing to potentially sacrifice himself and tells her to run
Her calling him “Dad” snapped him out of the trance
The Anuk-ite used her voice against him, meaning his greatest fear was something happening to her
Bad
Wanted Malia to kill Kate (why? He could do it. Actually, Chris should have done it but he doesn’t have the balls)
Additional notes: The show implies Peter helped out Malia during the brown out in season 5 (through a flashback in season 6), but I never understood what the significance was, so I’m ignoring that until someone can explain it to me.
Ken Yukimura
Good
Was willing to sell out Noshiko, in a way, to help Kira (“Are you sure about that?”)
Was willing to go to prison for Kira when she was (knowingly) wrongly accused of murder
Bad
Didn’t tell her about her kitsune powers until they started to manifest
Didn’t tell her they were planning to go back to New York
Dr. David Geyer
Good
Supportive of Liam and helped him work through his anger
Doesn’t blame him for getting assaulted by Scott (”Are you mad at me?” “No, of course not.”)
Clearly cares about Liam, and his friends
Additional notes: We don’t get to see him enough. I’m mad about it.
Rafael McCall
Good
Tells Scott it’s safer for him to get out of town than stay when Monroe has her army
Bad
Pushed his kid down the stairs. Doesn’t matter if he was drunk or not
Didn’t really apologize to Scott for this incident, instead he pushed the blame to Melissa
Said he would come back soon and then didn’t
Not to mention he doesn’t seem to pay child support since Melissa is struggling and he offers to have dinner with Scott so Melissa can work more shifts instead of just giving her money. But I digress
Proceeded to not spend time with Scott. No phone calls or emails were mentioned (but I guess that doesn’t necessarily mean they didn’t exist. Still didn’t spend time with him, though)
Henry Tate
Good
Was gutted when his family died
Thrilled to find out Malia was alive
Bad
Sent her (?) to Eichen to readjust. That is what therapy is for, not a mental institution. (And who gave her the go ahead to go to high school with a third grade education? The fact that she graduated eventually with the academic success of a nine-year-old tells me she’s hella smart. What 9 yo wouldn’t struggle with pre-calc if they skipped all the stuff in between?)
Mr. Lahey
Bad
Abuses Isaac
Mr. Stewart
Good
When a lot of people (Natalie) didn’t believe Tracy had a real condition or problem, he did
Got her help for the problem (the psychiatrist)
Did everything he could to ease her mind (the dreamcatcher, boarding up the skylight)
Mr. Martin
Good
Went to the hospital to see Lydia
Bad
Tells Lydia she needs to choose who she lives with in the divorce
Presumed she had more problems than successes in school
Went to the hospital to see her, though he seemed a little eager to offer her help with a shower, which was creepy to me
Never to be heard from again. He likely abandoned Lydia
Elias Stilinski
Bad
Abusive and openly mocks his son and grandson (not sure how he remembered someone who was taken by the Ghost Riders)
The Moms
Melissa McCall
Good
Supports Scott no matter what
Bad
Except that one week after she found out he was a werewolf. She didn’t apologize for that either. Much like Chris, she did not express her love for her kid during that time even if she was struggling with his identity
(^ Saying forget everything I said before, if you can do something, do it is not an apology)
Her punishments are empty threats or nonexistent. She doesn’t ground him for sneaking out past curfew, does not punish him for assaulting Isaac (that’s not boys will be boys, that’s straight up assault), or stealing money from the Hales (she only demanded he give it back, no punishment ensued), took away his car keys/Stiles but then seemed to drop the punishment when she thought he was acting out because of his father)
^ Also, no Stiles is not a punishment you can follow through on
Instead of trying to have a conversation about the lone condom she found in his room with him, she goes to the MOM of the girl she ASSUMES he’s fucking. She could have been way off
She told the drunk to get out of the house, not the dad to get out of his life. Wrong. If your spouse hurts your kid, get rid of the whole man. Toodaloo motherfucker. Your stuff is in the trash
Instead of telling her son to get out of town for his safety, she tells him to stay. There is an entire army out to kill your child. He’s always going to be followed and hunted, yes, but it just seems irresponsible
I’m positive this is because the writers didn’t think it through that far or they simply forgot, but fact of the matter is it still happened. Melissa let Scott live with the man who pushed him down the stairs. Why? How are you certain it won’t happen again? How are you certain something worse couldn’t happen? I’m not giving up my kid, not for anything, not for any amount of time. If Melissa has primary physical custody, why would she let this happen?
Natalie Martin
Good
Wants Lydia to see a therapist
Electrocutes Tracy to save Lydia
Bad
“Lydia! What did you do to yourself?” sounds judgmental. Perhaps, upon seeing her daughter has cut her hand by punching the mirror, asking what happened would be more appropriate
Lets a strange boy into her house to be alone with Lydia while she’s drugged up and in negligee. Lydia can wear whatever the hell she wants, especially in her own house, but to let some rando into her room is not a good idea. And she left them alone
Says in season 4 she will do whatever she can to help and then turns around and absolutely does nothing (though this may be less of a parenting thing and more of a terrible person thing)
Sends her to Eichen House for the “best medical care.” Excuse me, ma’am, that is a mental institution, not a medical facility. Also, according to the flashback in Season 5, she saw what happened to Lorraine. I’m not sure if she’s cruel or stupid, but given everything else we know about Natalie, I’m going with both
She doesn’t care when Stiles points out Lydia has a hole in her head. She tries to justify it medically. You remember what happened to your former mother-in-law. Do you believe Lorraine did it to herself?
When Noah tells her what’s going on in Eichen, she waits all day to get Lydia out of there
When Tracy injures Lydia and Lydia tells Natalie to run, she does. She doesn’t risk her own safety to be with her child. She saves herself
Victoria Argent
Bad
“What you want doesn’t matter!” Tracks
She’s unnecessarily hard on Allison it seems (of course you shouldn’t be hard on your kid at all, but I feel Vicky was over the top)
Additional notes: I really don’t remember much about her except that she was a psycho. Some of her points are tied in with Chris.
Noshiko Yukimura
Good
Wants to get Kira help controlling the fox spirit
Bad
Hides Kira’s powers from her until they started to manifest
Sends her to the skinwalkers possibly forever (and then changes her mind)
Doesn’t tell her about the plan to move back to New York
Talia Hale
Bad
She didn’t seem like she was a comfort to Derek after he killed Paige. She told him his eyes were pretty and there was nothing wrong with them. There are definitely other things she could have said such as “It was a mercy kill, that doesn’t make you a bad person” or “She was suffering, you helped her” IDK
If Talia and Laura evolved in the same way Derek did in season 4, how come he didn’t know what was happening to him? I’m assuming Talia didn’t tell him
Additional notes: There’s no information about her as a parent, and these are mostly assumptions
Corinne
Bad
Tries to murder her daughter
Claudia Stilinski
Good
Based on Claudia pre-dementia, she would’ve believed Stiles
Additional notes: And this is according to Stiles who wanted to (rightfully) make his dad feel bad for not believing him. Which he never does. (He also yelled at Stiles unnecessarily)

Okay, I'm going on another movie rant- I just watched Marjorie Morningstar (1957/8? I'm not sure) and the lead relationship, Marjorie and Noel, played by Natalie Wood and Gene Kelly, reminded me so much of Rory and Logan.
The lead pair have a flirtatious relationship, and Kelly's character keeps trying to change for her (much like Logan in season 5); eventually, fed up with going the business route, he goes back to his artistic route, but then jealous of Marjorie's success, he tries too hard to succeed which leads to failure; he then goes back to the same job that he was doing when he met Marjorie and she realizes its the same scenario but the only different person in the picture is her.
Side note- there's another character Wally something, who has a crush on Marjorie, but is sad because she's attracted to Noel; he becomes steadily successful which makes Gene Kelly's character jealous and with the urge to one-up him (kind of like Logan insulting Jess in 06x08) and at the end, when she's on a bus, the guy is sitting next to her, smiling as if indicating that they will start a relationship.
Thoughts?

Artists, websites, interesting places & things ! ...
My memory is poor. As for the purposes of updating, I will add new postings to the top of the list. Albeit not alphabetized in this manner, it is easier to maintain. I started the list so I would have all of the artists I love, places I've been, websites I like, all at a glance whenever I work on projects. Then I decided to share it. I mean, why not! At present it's mainly names without context. Which is a little unfair to artists. However, as I get more settled in my new home,I will provide more links, etc.(With Artists Permission Naturally.) Thank You For Being Here ..... ~S
Peter Coulson - Photographer
Alina Bobyleva - model. (With the exception of a few fashion photographers I greatly respect, (*One of whom I will link above this note), I don't normally like to put too much emphasis on the modelling industry per se. However, with as much focus on blond or raven haired, tanned models. This young lady is a fair skinned redhead. When I was growing up as a fair skinned dark shade redhead, you never saw yourself represented in the fashion world.

Have we not learned?
I do not ask this question in a smarty pants tone. Okay, maybe I am being a little snarky, but the ridiculousness of the world today is everywhere. Here’s where my head is today if you want to know, but if you don’t want to know you know what to do. There is always a choice. We, Barry and I, have been searching for a spiritual community in a church that we can call our spiritual home. This morning church took a back seat because the home needed some attention and that community starts at home. I got cleaned up and started on my morning prayer routine ending with a communion with my husband. What’s she getting at? It takes a minute to get there.
Here’s the tea. I began to listen to a local Episcopal church. The announcements started off with a invitation to a workshop about anti-racism. I instantly rolled my eyes. This is becoming a tiresome topic. Why? Our sin as a nation began to heal in the 1960s with Martin Luther King jr. marching for equality for black America and continuing to teach that God’s commandment is to “Love Others as you wanted loved”(paraphrased). This topic of Anti-Racism is like the overbearing parent constantly pointing the finger after your wrongs were already pointed out and the learning to correct the sin. The Episcopal church has always been a front runner on loving all people regardless of Faith, Race and Sexual Orientation. The idea that we have to shout to the roof tops that we are anti-racist has bastardized the church. We are all human. We as a nation have learned to correct ourselves in all generations. The previous generation has forgotten the work already accomplished by the Baby Boomers and their children Generation X. The Greatest Generation won the war so that Baby Boomers can thrive and teach. Generation X sealed the deal with the election of one Barack Obama. As Generation X I am not looking for praise. I am looking for the next Generation to stop and realize that in all their efforts the one thing they are missing is GRACE.
The Episcopal church is no longer worshipping Christ, but worshipping self instead. They are worshipping the idea of acceptance and tolerance. The sin of the people and of the church was bought and paid for on the cross. I am not saying that racism doesn’t exist. It does exist and its evil. MLK didn’t want division of the people he wanted a American people that held the idea of this country that, “ all people were created equal” “people should not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” All of this is expressed in scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself” Mark 12:31. This one scripture envelops all people. We are all important. We are all children of God. When we separate into factions we are no longer worshipping the God of our Fathers. We are worshipping something new that is evil and is leading a nation to a dark hole that if in too deep we will continue to fall and never land.
Where do we go? What do we do? I really don’t have a answer for that. I know how to fight the evil ahead of us and that is on my knees praying to God. If he leads me to go to the Anti-Racist workshop then I will go. That reminds me of something that Glenn Beck said on his radio show. I am paraphrasing, “If the Holy Spirit says Go! I will Go.”

given the antagonistic interaction between lydia’s parents during the student teacher conference, i find that it’s safe to say that prior to the divorce, the two of them fought in the house. it’s fair to say that the two have a contentious relationship, and natalie does very little to hide her disdain of lydia’s father from her teacher ( who will eventually be one of her colleagues if not already?? i don’t remember if natalie is always the counselor or not / i know she filled in as a teacher in s3?? ). there’s an animosity that is palpable, and they are unable to be cordial even for the sake of the meeting. on top of that, their perception of lydia is so off base; now...lydia really is brilliant in more ways than one, and one of them is her ability to fool people, but we also frequently see cracks in the façade that people like allison were able to see through. she doesn’t try and hide her intelligence when completing a math problem in front of the class, while conversing with scott, showing the ease in which she’s able to do this. she also corrects jackson on what a mountain lion is before remembering to play it off. she’s good at fooling people, but it’s more because people don’t push her on it than because she’s a brilliant actress.
i think this really did start at home. lydia wouldn’t respond well to an ultimatum, so her dad forcing her to choose which parent to live with would automatically result in her choosing natalie. tbh i think she also likes the freedom that comes with that because natalie is more absent than dismissive. while lydia’s dad expects the worse, natalie just doesn’t care. lydia takes medication to ease her nerves after the wolf attack at the video store, and natalie just shrugs it off as normal behavior.
while she easily could have given up because her family didn’t care or think she would amount to anything, lydia really does like being the best. she hides her intelligence for a number of reasons, one of which is the oodles of internalized misogyny she has to work through, but she doesn’t back up the act in her schoolwork. if anyone took a glance at a test or a paper, they’d know; later on in their academic careers a teacher actually tells her to do less work because her own theories won’t get her extra credit. she’s a genius; she knows it and eventually she owns it for everyone to see not just the school.
the downside is that lydia is really bad at being bad at something. those negative comments her dad makes that she could just let slide because they couldn’t be further from the truth come to play then. she can pretend to suck or decide to show off and it gives her a level of control, but when her powers start to come in, nothing is in control. nothing had been for a while before that either, with her friends lying about the true nature of the attacks. she felt out of the loop and like things were happening without her consent, and then she has these powers that she can’t control and that she’s actually bad at deciphering. people keep dying because she shows up too late, and that has a physical and emotional toll on her because she’s not used to failing and now the failures have a body count. this coupled with the fact that she has little control over her own actions because she keeps sleepwalking to crime scenes does little for her mental health. she’s extremely tough on herself and she’s never had a genuine support system until scott’s pack.

Books I Read in 2021: Science Fiction & Fantasy Edition
This post got long, so my most favorite books are bolded. Any books I started to read and didn't like are omitted from the list, so all of them have something to recommend them, in my opinion. For the record, if a book is on this list, rest assured that the main character is LGBTQIA (except Planet of Exile, which was, after all, written in 1966.)
Spellhacker by M.K. England
A fun little action fantasy romp, but nothing groundbreaking.
Foundryside and Shorefall by Robert Jackson Bennett
This series is fantastic, especially in worldbuilding and magic system. It's a form of magic that's heavily based on programming, with equivalents of if/then logic, software libraries, and server stacks. And the main character is a thief who does magic heists. What's not to love?
Sing for the Coming of the Longest Night by Katherine Fabian and Iona Datt Sharma
A magical little mystery with an incredibly relatable cast of characters. The two main characters are metamours whose mutual boyfriend goes missing, and they team up to rescue him. Every character in this book felt like someone I've dated or had drinks with.
Dreadnought by April Daniels
A book about a trans woman superhero. It was very color-by-numbers standard superhero stuff, and I really only enjoy this genre if it does some serious trope subversion. Which brings me to...
Hench by Natalie Zina Walschots
HIGHLY recommend this book, the most subversive superhero book I've read yet (and I've read a lot of trope-flipping superhero fiction.) The main character is a henchwoman working in the gig economy on temp contracts with supervillains, and her superpower is her accounting and mastery of spreadsheets. If this doesn't make you want to read it immediately, I fundamentally do not understand you as a person.
Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Gailey
Sarah Gailey always has really interesting worldbuilding, and then populates these cool worlds with plots and character arcs about as subtle as a brick to the head. I will continue to keep an eye on their work, as I feel it has a lot of promise, even though it's not quite there yet.
The Empress of Salt and Fortune and When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain by Nghi Vo
Nghi Vo is an astonishing new voice in fantasy. She communicates a very strong sense of place in the Singing Hills Cycle, a series of histories and folktales that evoke all the ambience of a Chinese period drama.
Exit Strategy, Network Effect, and Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells
We all know by now that Murderbot Diaries is amazing, right? If you haven't read it yet, just do it. I particularly enjoyed Network Effect because it had ART in it and Murderbot&ART is my OTP.
Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell
The romance was fairly standard fanfic fare, enjoyable enough. The worldbuilding had holes you could drive a truck through, as far as the space empire was concerned. The gender-related worldbuilding was quite nice, though.
Planet of Exile by Ursula K. LeGuin
No work of LeGuin's, especially in the Hainish Cycle, can be considered bad, though this is one of her earliest novels and it shows. Her omnipresent themes of cultural difference, gender, and the terrible price of violence are here, but still finding their feet.
Persephone Station by Stina Leicht
This book had promise - the whole premise of the found family of tough mercenary ladies was definitely appealing - but the execution was rather poor, with thin and shaky sci-fi worldbuilding. Hopefully Stina Leicht will do better in future books.
A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine
A worthy follow-up to A Memory Called Empire, with some new sci-fi elements that felt like they were written for my interests specifically. Really enjoyed the Stanislav Petrov theme. I did feel like the anti-imperialist critique was not as powerful as it could have been, which was frustrating.
Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse
I'm so glad I gave Roanhorse another chance after I read her previous work and didn't care for it. Black Sun is fantasy set in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, with totally fresh and fascinating worldbuilding. I hope this book is vanguard to a wave of Indigenous voices in high fantasy, because this story felt epic and mythical in a whole new way.
Where I End and You Begin by Preston Norton
This book made me laugh in pure delight all the way through. It's a YA comedy about two high school frenemies who suddenly start body-swapping at random, and it's every bit as awkward and wacky and ridiculous as you could hope for.
The Witness for the Dead by Katherine Addison
Set in the same universe as The Goblin Emperor, this book had the same quiet feeling of tight focus on one man who just wants to be kind in a cruel world. I enjoyed it, but Addison has to give me some non-tragic gays next book or I will riot.
The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting by K.J. Charles
Not K.J. Charles' best work, but even a mediocre K.J. Charles is miles better than a romance by almost any other author. The book is very, very horny, more so than most of her work, but resolves in a sweet and homey way.
The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water by Zen Cho
So this was my very first wuxia/xianxia (Chinese historical fantasy genres) novel, and it got me absolutely hooked. This book was written in English by the Malaysian author Zen Cho, which made it a very accessible entry into the genre for me as a Western reader. This book is a pure fun romp about a nun who joins up with a crew of bandits. It made me smile a lot.
Black Water Sister by Zen Cho
After enjoying The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water so much, I decided to try another Zen Cho novel, and WOW am I glad I did. This book wrecked me with queer diaspora feels. It's about a Malaysian-American lesbian who moves back to Malaysia as an adult after spending most of her life in the US. She begins to be haunted by the ghost of her grandmother and gets drawn into the world of gods and spirits. The ending of this book had me weeping at its beauty.
Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao
Pure feminist catharsis. If you've ever had one of those days when you have wanted to tear off the face of every man who has ever abused or oppressed you (who hasn't?) this story about Wu Zetian, giant mecha-wielding avatar of female rage, may be the balm your soul needs.
魔道祖师 | Mo Dao Zu Shi | Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation by 墨香铜臭 | Mo Xiang Tong Xiu
This book came for my life. Since I read it, not a day goes by that I don't think about it. I know no peace. Mo Dao Zu Shi is a xianxia novel that has an official translation coming out next week (you can follow the link above to order it.) It's an extremely compelling gay romance that made my heart explode. More than that, it's a beautiful fantasy epic, with flawed and complex characters, villains you can't help but love at least a little, and grand themes about morality, grief, class, and internalized homophobia.
人渣反派自救系统 | Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong | Scum Villain's Self-Saving System by 墨香铜臭 | Mo Xiang Tong Xiu
After I enjoyed Mo Dao Zu Shi so very, very much, I knew I had to read other works by MXTX. This is an earlier novel, and not as good, but still very fun to read. It's a satire of the isekai/transmigration genre, in which the main character is transmigrated into a poorly written erotic novel as the scum villain, and has to try to not get killed. Very metafictional and laugh-out-loud hilarious.

the loki show managed to put together a cast/crew of the worst possible women they could find. from natalie “loki thinks sylvie is his mother” holt, to sophia "sylvie had it worst then loki” to whatever kate heron is. everything they say makes me hate them more. cant believe marvel let them do this to tom
I mean. I think they put together the worst people they could find. It’s not just the women. Don’t forget Eric “publicly complained on Twitter because the Disney execs wouldn’t let them make the show even less about Loki than it already was” Martin. Not to mention Mike Waldron, the king of bad takes, lord of the antis, and chief creator of this whole mess.
Also I gotta say Natalie Holt dropping in with that bizarre “Loki looks at Sylvie like his mother” take right after Kate Herron went on a rant about how fans shouldn’t call sylki incest was hilariously perfect comedic timing and amused me to no end. It was also weird when she said Loki and Sif dated given that she had nothing to do with writing the series...and also given that he based it on that torture scene. But I still think she hasn’t been as harmful as Kate ruining the show with her bad directing and also calling what Mobius did therapy (as did Mike iirc) or as harmful as what Mike and Eric have said and written.
But yeah it’s a mess. This show was made in bad faith. Everything from the writing and directing to the makeup and PR was a huge slap in the face to Tom and to the Loki character and to Loki’s fans. Absolutely outrageous. It’s literally like if Disney made TFatWS about John Walker and had Sam call him the “superior” cap. People would be rightfully outraged. This was just an insulting disaster that seemed actively malicious. But yeah it’s not by any means just on the women. I mean, Mike’s the one who wrote the story and he has made many many gross comments. So yeah... Not sure why he and Eric Martin are being given a pass in this ask...
(Edit: Seriously. Just check my Loki tv series interviews tag if you want to see lots of equal opportunity awfulness from both women and men associated with the show. It wasn’t just the women by any means.)

WARNING : I'm just an addict ... addicted to music. There are people who are born to make music, o8 thers are born to hearing. Whenever was part of this second group. Maybe it's. a habit, I gotta use, even if it 's rock, jazz or the quiet storm. Great pictures of the things I love - music, painting, books, photography, architecture, design, women, and more. We Need to Talk About Stereotypes
I get into a lot of arguments with @camelotpark and @princeescaluswords about applying “dangerous latinx stereotypes” to Scott and I just saw PEW put out a very thorough list:  sexually voracious and obsessive, lazy and uneducated, stubborn, short-tempered, and imperious.
Now, I have several issues with this pre-approved list because it seems less to be a list of negative latinx stereotypes and more a list of things we sort of say about Scott (except “imperious” because... c’mon).
Which leads me to ask a question: When do stereotypes stop being traits and start being negative indicators of a marginalized group?
Don’t worry, I have an answer!
Let’s take a look at “sexualy voracious and obsessive”. You see, “sexually voracious” (which no one has ever called Scott) was added so the entire phrase could be one step closer to the “lothario” or “latin lover” trope. But being obsessed with Allison has nothing to do with a) Scott’s race or b) anything outside of being a teenage boy obsessed with a girl.
The antis simply don’t like it, because Scott’s obsession ended up effecting others. And not just Stiles with the missed phone calls, but also Matt when Scott couldn’t even complete the plan without getting jealous. And Allison herself when Scott kept trying to win her back and didn’t tell her the truth about her mother. And even Isaac when he slammed him against a wall twice because of her, and then denied Isaac the chance to say goodbye in his arms while she died (I loved the moment as a Scallison shipper, but I did laugh when it cut to Isaac, like...oh! Oh yeah!).
They don’t want Scott to take responsibility for this, so they create a false stereotype to implicate as much of fandom as they can. Then they try to make Scott exempt from having this trait at all, when again, not how traits work.
But here’s the rub, shouldn’t Scott be able to like a girl in an obsessive way? Because at it’s core a list of stereotypes is just a list of traits, and one that all humans are afforded. Where the trouble comes in is using those traits as a precursor to casting judgement one someone using only their appearance.
If upon seeing Scott with Allison I thought “Of course he’s obsessed with her, he’s latinx!” then yeah, I’d be racist af because that’s a wild thing to say. But just pointing out that he’s obsessed due to the number of examples that show his obsession is not something you can claim is racially motivated just because you heard of the lothario trope.
Now I happened to look up a list of actual stereotypes the Latinx population deals with: Lazy, being a Cholo, Job Stealing, Criminal, Illegal, Uneducated (put your hard ons away, antis, we’ll get to it).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereotypes_of_Hispanic_and_Latino_Americans_in_the_United_States
Out of this list, the only one I’ve seen applied to Scott is uneducated, but again, this is after the fact that canon presented Scott as being academically uninclined. He missed several classes and only graduated with the help of Natalie Martin.
So again comes the question, when does Scott get to be dumb? Because people are dumb sometimes, not everyone is intellectually superior. And honestly for a lot of people it makes Scott approachable that he may not be the most booksmart, but he works hard to get the job done. So saying he’s not as bright is a valid canon trait, not a stereotype.
What I see the antis do a lot is take something we say about Scott that they don’t like and try to turn it into a racial stereotype. The thought process is that we’ll stop saying it about Scott, but the connection to race is so flimsy that it usually goes ignored. Because the truth of the matter is that Scott is a complicated character and his character wasn’t written with his race in mind.
Unlike characters like Sinqua and Mason who were specifically written against type. Or Deaton, who was literally made into the magical negro character for Scott. Scott’s race is wholly inconsequential to his story which gives the viewer leeway to instill those race elements for themselves. I’ve seen several rewrites of the Calaveras storyline that explores Scott’s possible cultural ties to la iglesia. Which is fine because he really is a blank slate, an every man that everyone is supposed to relate to.
Now if this was successful or unsuccessful is another post, but I wouldn’t ever say it’s unsuccessful because he’s latinx.
That’s enough for now, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
