1 month until my exams begin! (not an exclamation of excitement)

I'm actually panicking quite a bit because I have so much to study for, my exams + the block I'm currently busy with(obstetrics & gynaecology). My plan is to literally tackle them all at once lmao I don't know what else to tell you.

Today I:

♡ attended a skills tutorial where we learnt to insert a female catheter

♡ crammed some obs&gynae questions I have to know for this Friday (100 questions for 5% can you just imagine)

♡ did anaemia and cytopaenia anki cards for the 1 haematology exam I have in November

♡ looked at a bit of neurophysiology for the 2 neuroscience exams I have in November

♡ watched an episiotomy lecture/tut in preparation for a skills tutorial tomorrow on campus

More than anything, I'm hoping to stay consistent over the next few weeks instead of mass studying because of procrastination. ♡

Day 5

I’ve studied consistently for 5 days. Yay me!! Today I did revision for vocab and grammar on anki. 2:47 hours all together.

Decided to put images into anki for words that I was struggling to remember. What do you know, it helped a lot 😂 wish I realised to do this earlier.

Also here’s a nice graph of my progress so far.

My brains so tired now. Time for a rest.

How I make flash'cards' for British Sign Language.

First up I use Anki and make basic flashcards, however the difference is on one side I have gifs of the signs being done. Of course for grammar cards I make regular cards with a question on one side and the explanation on the other, but for the rest it's gifs.

But how do I get my gifs? Simple, I make them! I use a free app called ScreenToGif, it comes with a built in screen recorder and editor for making gifs. I simply record videos of the signs being done, trim, save them and then put them into the flashcards as I make them.

But here's where you have to be careful, the videos you use, you need to make sure they're reliable as not all signing videos you'll come across are from teachers or people who actually use BSL and aren't just learning or worse, making it up (yes sadly those exist). You want to make sure they're good sources of information and of course, double check it's the sign language you're actually learning as there are hundreds of different Sign languages.

while I was doing the day 1 writeup I ended up deciding that as long as I'm looking all this shit up to make sure I'm understanding things correctly I might as well bite the bullet and start compiling an anki deck with all of it

so depending on whether I can keep at it I might have a crossdressing eroge themed flash card deck to post at some point

By sheer coincidence, within a week of my watching Kana Beisekeyev’s documentary on the Kazakh language, RFE/RL has a story on the Almaty-based Kazakh-language club featured in the movie, and Aleksei Skalozubov, its native-Russian-speaking founder (who doesn’t get named in the movie, since that’s not how KB rolls). This story gives a little bit of context about a potential resurgence in Kazakh interest since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, including by brand-new, never-intended-to-move-there potential Kazakhstanis. I can’t say what the role of Kazakhstani authorities is in all this, but the combination of the movie and the story feel more bottom-up than top-down, people learning the Kazakh language because they want to, rather than being required to.

I want nothing more than to wear my favorite sweater and spray on my favorite perfume in ludicrous quantities and layer all my favorite lip glosses and go (equipped w an apple and a water bottle and a clear conscience) to my local library and sit outside w my textbooks laid out in front of me and study for hours on end while the nippy air shivers along my skin and reminds me I am alive breathing blood lumping able to engross myself in this moment. Then once I’m done studying I’ll take a walk through the park trail and sit on a rock by mossy tree roots while tight-knit canopies dapple the leaf-strewn ground around me and take to my notes app and journal about my feelings and goals and just life in general. When the shadows grow long and the warmth wears thin I will drive back home and curl up in bed and continue reading A Paradise Built in Hell by Rebecca Solnit to imbue my soul w much needed warmth. Also deep-conditioning my curls while studying tomorrow bc my curls need love. November will be kind to me I am so determined
