Note
Julie as an exorcist for hire and Luke as her ghost partner au (Bring it On Ghost 😌)
and/or
JATP characters meet working a a pet store au (let’s pretend it’s a super ethical one where all the pets are rescues ok lol)
HOOO BOY OK ok ok ok OK
edit: uh. yeah. good luck reading this it’s so long but then so rushed idk man enjoy……….
edit 2: wait shit i just reread your ask and u specifically said julie exorcist and luke ghost…..I APOLOGISE. STILL WORKS………….
get it on ghost au:
so luke’s always been plagued with the gift of seeing ghosts - he hates it, it’s mostly annoying when they show up unannounced declaring that he has to help them — and worst of all, it’s exhausting having to get rid of the creepy ones in ways other than just guiding them spiritually (ie beating the crap out of them)
it took up too much of his time and he just wanted to focus on his music man
he figures out at one point tho that he can make a business out of it — make some money by advertising his skills (without his parents knowing cause well. they wouldn’t necessarily agree to it) and getting people to pay him to ‘exorcise’ ie beat the crap out of ghosts that refuse to move on and just insist on haunting the living
(alex and reggie know about this of course. esp when they suddenly have nicer practice rooms to chill in. alex isn’t thrilled he’s actually terrified, but reggie just wants to join in on all the client calls luke gets)
AND THIS IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING: so one day luke gets a text from a potential client asking him to head over to the abandoned los feliz high school building (that particular building was shut down a couple years ago because of a tragedy and hasn’t really been dealt with yet)
BUT BASICALLY the text asks him to check out the building cause there’s this one notorious ghost that keeps scaring all the high school students in the buildings nearby and they just need it to be dealt with (he’s seen those high school kids running past it like their lives depended on it
luke’s happy to oblige, especially when he finds out how much the client is willing to pay, and heads over — only to get the surprise of a lifetime. he meets a ghost who 1. turns out to be the one who texted him (so he’s not getting paid and that’s not great news) and 2. is a cute girl who looks very much human and not like any of the other ghosts he’s met before
he’s taken aback, especially when she kicks his ass (and helps him kick the resident ghost’s ass)
it’s a whole cat and mouse thing for a while, she keeps following him whenever he’s alone and he keeps telling her to leave him alone (mostly cause she’s hella cute and he seriously can’t afford to catch feelings for a dead girl yknow). he tells her she needs to pay him or move on and she keeps insisting that she just wants to figure out who she is!! how she died!! who her family is!! so that she can move on!!!
so they strike up a deal: he helps her (her name’s julie, by the way) figure out who she is, the mystery revolving her death and why she can’t remember anything, and she, in turn, helps him on the job (she’s got a wicked left kick), slowly paying him back with her skills since she never paid him for that one job (the abandoned high school building, remember that?)
so she tags along wherever he goes (at first to his dismay), even joining in on band practice (the boys know of her existence and try to be as considerate as possible considering they can’t see her)
things start to change between the two the second luke hears julie sing, fingers slipping on metal strings when she follows the melody perfectly and holy shit he’s a goner (the boys are confused af they’ve never seen luke lose focus when it comes to band practice)
THEY SPEND THE NIGHT TALKING AND HE FINDS OUT SHE DIDNT EVEN KNOW SHE COULD SONG- he tries to get her to play various instruments to see maybe she was into that and turns out she can play piano!! and oh?? SHE CAN ALSO WRITE SONGS??? match made in heaven soulmates luke’s fucked and fully in love with a ghost etc etc
ah fuck this is getting long i’m so sorry but let me continue:
so this is where we meet our antagonist: the music teacher at los feliz, the one luke’s seen loitering around the high school (alex goes to that school and whenever luke stopped by for lunch he’d see the somewhat creepy teacher)
and he gets a bad feeling from him every single time
TO MAKE THIS SHORT LMAO: turns out julie’s accident had soemthing to do with the teacher, caleb covington, and turns out she was a student at that school!! 10 years ago!!
ALSO: SHES BOT ACTUALLY DEAD? SHES IN A COMA????? what a plot twist. it’s why she looks so normal so human. it’s why she’s never felt like any other ghost.
anyway stuff happens luke figures out caleb is some weird powerful ghost demon who sucks the life out of students for their talents and that’s what happened to julie except he never managed to finish the job.
luke finds a way to bring her back to life and together they fight caleb and it’s A HAPPY ENDING OH JESUS
do you still want the pet store au??? lmao
julie starts working at a pet store, she meets reggie first, and he takes her round the store introducing her to all the animals and staff members and when they reach the puppies section they find a guy their age on the floor on his back being attacked by several puppies (licking his face) and it’s the cutest thing julie’s seen in a while
that is until reggie shouts “luke! new person coming through” and the boy on the floor sits up and julie sees his face and decides actually. that’s the cutest thing she’s seen in a while
anyway.
coworkers romance and all that jazz 😌
she finds out he sings to the scared puppies and agitated animals at the store, and it melts her heart. he hears her sing along to one of his songs one day, matching the harmony perfectly, and he melts.
they fall in love and live happily ever after the end

Having already completed the first half of her college career, Joohyun was well aware of the value of sleep. And yet, like most college students, she could never  seem to manage a decent sleeping schedule. She had only slept 2 hours when her alarm went off at 5:30AM. She groggily rolled out of bed, mentally cursing her past self for thinking that this was a good idea when clearly, the best idea at the moment was to snuggle back up under her covers and sleep in until afternoon. Only one of her eyes seemed capable of staying open as she pulled on her clothes and got ready for the day. When she suddenly heard the front door close behind her roommate, she cursed out loud, throwing her laptop into her bag before she rushed out the door. She half-wobbled, half-hopped along the second-story walkway while she tried to get her shoes all the way on.
“Bok Bongseon! Wait for me!” Joohyun called out in an aggressive whisper.
“HOLY SHIT! You scared me, Joo!” her roommate, a shorter girl with full cheeks and pouty lips, screamed at full volume. She clutched at her racing heart and leaned against the wall while she caught her breath.
“Shut up, people are still sleeping!” Joohyun linked arms with Bongseon and dragged her down the steps leading to the street. It was still dark outside, but she could already hear the faint bustling of the mart located below their apartment. It was nice to know that they weren’t the only two people in Seoul insane enough to be awake at this hour.
“I thought you were the ghost of my grandma, you bitch! You know she visits me in my dreams to tell me how disappointed she that I’m a baker,” Bongseon said indignantly, though she still cuddled closer to Joohyun when they were hit by the morning chill. Once they reached the street, they both headed towards the train station without having to say a word.  “What are you even doing up?”
“I am simply accompanying my favorite roommate to work to make sure that she gets there safely,” Joohyun crooned sweetly, and made kissy faces at the girl, who in turn pinched Joohyun’s lips between her calloused fingers. She tried to protest but could only let out pained whines until she was mercifully released. “Ow!”
“Sorry but I cannot fulfill your roommates to lovers, 12k slowburn fantasy,” Bongseon continued on nonchalantly as they climbed down the steps to the platform. “You had your chance, but I am a taken girl!”
“Oh, so you and Josh are together today?” Joohyun teased. Although it probably wasn’t the best idea, considering her lips were slightly throbbing from the girl’s attack. “I’ll just wait until tomorrow then.”
“Wow, bold words coming from Miss Fish Lips.” Bongseon raised an eyebrow and smiled tauntingly. “Understandable, considering  that that was probably the most action your lips have gotten in your entire life. I could probably set it up on a blind date with my fist, if you’d like.”
Joohyun’s laughter echoed off the walls of the mostly empty station, startling the only other person waiting for the morning train (an old woman, who was still half-asleep prior to being rudely awakened by two very loud girls). Bongseon often made some colorful threats, morning or not, but Joohyun was one of the very few people who could be assured that her words were empty. “Don’t you know that it’s rude to stare, lady?” she barked at the old woman, who was openly glaring at them. Everyone else, on the other hand, was subject to Bongseon’s sharp temper.
This even included her boyfriend of approximately 4 years. ‘Approximately’ being the key word, because the two often took breaks--  a natural phenomenon when one partner was easily provoked and the other loved to do the provoking. Jihoon had told Joohyun that the two had met at the cafe in their freshman year, when Bongseon came in as a part-time baker and Joshua was merely a barista trainee. They started dating within a month and moved into an apartment together in two. That went just as well as anyone would expect. By the grace of whatever entity that was chaotic enough to keep their relationship intact, they made it 7 months before nearly breaking things off for good. As luck would have it though, a new hire and his roommate were in the same exact predicament as them. Kind of.
Joohyun shuddered to recall her freshman year when she and Jihoon somehow convinced themselves that it was a good idea to share an apartment. In principle it made sense; they had lived across the street from each other since they were in diapers. Two exhausting months into trying to irritate the other into breaking the lease first, they met Bongseon and Joshua when Jihoon started working at Smile Flower. It didn’t take long for Joohyun to suggest the switch— she would move in with Bongseon and Joshua with Woozi. Just like that, she saved both Bongseon and Joshua’s turbulent romance (temporarily) and her and Woozi’s fractured friendship (now thriving).
She and Bongseon have been roommates ever since, and Joohyun knew her life was a little easier for it.
“Joohyun, you better stop looking at me with those heart eyes before I really act up,” Bongseon warned. They had boarded the train, but hadn’t bothered to sit down since Mansae University station was only two stops away.
“But I just love you so much,” Joohyun pouted, affectionately resting her head on her friend’s shoulder. “What does Joshua have that I don’t?”
“A dick. And that’s about it.”
“Damn you, heterosexuality!”
Bongseon snorted out a laugh. “Seriously Joo, how are you awake right now? You’re only ever this lovey-dovey when you’re severely sleep deprived. I know you don’t have classes until 3PM today. You also don’t have your internship today,” Bongseon narrowed her eyes when Joohyun visibly tensed up at the mention of her current occupation. “Also, since when do you watch Youtube videos until 2am? And don’t think I didn’t notice that all of them were titled ‘Relationship Q&A’s’ and ‘I confessed to my crush and he said this!!!’. Got something to tell me, missy?”
It was so quiet on the train that Joohyun worried that Bongseon could hear all the wires in her brain short-circuit. With Bongseon’s cross-examination skills, it was a wonder why she pursued baking instead of joining her family’s firm. Come on, Joohyun, just tell a white lie. Easy, simple. Don’t need to overcomplicate things. “Oh, uh I— um— well, I j-just thought they were entertaining?” She was done for.
“Right. You thought random couples self-indulgently talking about their love lifes for 40 minutes with default iMovies effects were entertaining.”
“Y-yes?” Joohyun threw in her most convincing smile for good measure, but it did nothing to soften Bongseon’s hard gaze. “It’s my new guilty pleasure, haha!”
“Hm, interesting,” Bongseon was momentarily interrupted by the sound of the arrival bell. Joohyun eagerly pulled her friend towards the exit, hoping that the distance from the train could also get her further away from the topic. Unfortunately for her, Bongseon did not plan on dropping it so soon. “You sure you don’t want to tell me anything, Joo? About your internship?”
Joohyun began to sweat. Was she really that transparent? “Okay, don’t get mad--”
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m super jazzed that you’re getting into relationships and everything, but really Joo? Youtube? You could just talk to me if you need help talking to your new crush at your job!”
“Oh.” Joohyun would have let out a sigh of relief if she wasn’t out of breath from climbing the mountain of stairs up to the sidewalk. “Right. Confessing. To my crush. That I definitely have.”
“It’s okay to admit you have one, Joo. I’m no  stranger to workplace romance,” Bongseon said, her breathing completely even. A measly flight of stairs was nothing compared to eight hours of kneading dough. “Who’s the lucky bastard, Joo?”
“Well, I’m not sure I would call it a workplace romance, per se…” Joohyun laughed nervously. There was no way she could stick another clean landing if she kept talking.
“Shut up, I bet that guy is in love with you already. Who wouldn’t fall for the only editing intern at The Front?”
“Haha, I don’t know…” Probably no one, because the only editing intern at The Front doesn’t exist?
Joohyun could not be more relieved to see the small store front of Smile Flower Cafe. It was one amongst the many cafes located near campus, but Joohyun felt like nothing really matched its comforting home-like ambience. But that probably had less to do with the soft wooden floors and pastel ceramic mugs, and more owed to the three years Joohyun had spent hanging around there, usually bothering Jihoon and joking around with Josh.
The two boys already stood waiting at the cafe’s entrance, too bleary-eyed to notice Joohyun and Bongseon quickly approaching. “Hey, ugly!” Joohyun called out, snickering when both of them turned to look at her.
“What the hell, why are you awake?”
“Good morning to you too, Jihoon,” she answered, blowing him a kiss. “I’m actually here to see you, believe it or not. Don’t you feel special?”
“Oh? That’s interesting, because you told me that you came here for me,” Bongseon broke away from exchanging actual kisses with Joshua to look between Joohyun and Jihoon in a way that Joohyun did not like too much.  “I guess it wasn’t a workplace romance after all.”
Joshua mirrored his girlfriend’s implicating expression as he unlocked the front door, simply because he knew it made his friends squirm. “Wow Joohyun, you woke up this early just to talk to Jihoon? You really couldn’t wait to see him, huh?”
“Uh, yes because I need his help—”
“Ah, his help, gotcha! Come on, Bongseon, I’ll go help you in the kitchen while these two help each other out here,” Joshua snickered. Before Joohyun or Jihoon could roast the couple in retaliation, they had already disappeared behind the counter.
After years of similar taunts, all Jihoon could do was shake his head. “Okay Joo, what is so important that you need my help at 6 in the morning?”
“I wrote my first response last night!” Joohyun whispered excitedly, taking out her laptop from her bag. “Well, a few hours ago. I wanted to show you before continuing on with the rest! Here, look.”
① Dear Miss Soju,
I just started my first year at MU and she’s an exchange student from New York. We met at a party and talked for two hours about comics, aliens, anything we could think of. It was perfect. She even asked me to walk her home. When the time came for me to make a move though, I kind of dropped the ball. Since we had just met that night, I didn’t want to come off too strong. Now I really regret it - I don’t even have her phone number. I feel like such an idiot! I can’t stop thinking about her, but I don’t even know if I’ll ever talk to her again. Did I make myself seem disinterested? Will we meet again? Will she even remember me?
Sincerely,
Big Cringy Idiot
She let Jihoon read the asker’s message first, then scrolled down to show her answer.
Dear Big Cringy Idiot,
You and your crush seem to have a lot in common. There is nothing wrong with being nervous around someone you like. In fact, it is fairly normal and is a good sign that you like this girl very much. She also seems open to any future possiblities, since she did ask you to take her home. You need not worry about coming off too strong in this situation, although I do admire your dedication to respecting women’s boundaries. I hope you are able to find this girl again so that you can truly tell her how you feel. Best of luck to you!
Sincerely,
Miss Soju
“Joo, that was…”
“Poetic, beautiful, life-changing?” Joohyun grinned, and nudged her best friend with each suggestion.
“Boring. It was boring.” Joohyun’s face fell, and Jihoon could only offer the girl an apologetic smile. “Dude, you’re gonna put people to sleep if you keep it up like this. I almost took out a pillow to take a nap on the floor.”
“But this is how I write my articles— Informative and concise! How else am I supposed to write it?”
“I mean, that’s great for reporting articles, but this is an advice column. It’s supposed to be fun, sarcastic maybe. Like your promo piece! That was good.”
“I wrote that as a joke, hoping they would fire me for it,” Joohyun admitted, eyes wide in panic as she looked at her best friend.
“Huh. Well, I think it would sound better than this Wikipedia article you got going on,” Jihoon shrugged. “Try to be fun!”
“I am fun!” Joohyun cried out defensively, her nostrils flaring with passion. When Jihoon responded with a doubtful look, she let out a dramatic gasp and snatched up her laptop, stomping over to her favorite corner in the cafe. “I can be fun! I’ll show you fun!”
“Atta girl,” Jihoon’s signature cackle filled the cafe, further fueling the girl’s aggressive typing.
Just another morning in the life of So Joohyun.
Tumblr media
To the surprise of the cafe’s current occupants, a student already tapped at the glass entrance, clearly in desperate need of his morning americano. He had walked all the way from the freshman dorms after a restless night of tossing and turning. When his phone screen told him it was already 6:05AM, he decided to just give up on sleep altogether. So there he was, trying to start off his day right, at Smile Flower Cafe, only to be stopped at the door by the grumpy barista with the red hair. He always felt like the other one was way nicer, especially since he would go out of his way to sneak him free cookie samples and made pleasant small talk while ringing him up (what was his name? Jonathan?).
All the red-haired barista ever did was scowl at him when he asked for a student discount. Now, he scowled at him as he gestured at the sign that indicated that the cafe would not be open until 7AM. The fatigued freshman had half a mind to make some choice gestures of his own, but he refrained and just whipped out his phone instead. He gave the mean barista one last pout before turning around and walking towards the 24-hour convenience store on campus.
➠ [ to: vernonie 😌😎  ] Good morning king. Are you still on your shift ?
➠ [ from: vernonie 😌😎  ] gm seungkwan pls k*ll me
Seungkwan took that as a yes. It didn’t take long for him to arrive, the entrance bell ringing lightly when he stepped into the small store. At the register sat his roommate, who was clearly fighting to keep his eyes open. “Wol-cuh ‘n—” he tried to greet through a wide-mouthed yawn. “Excuse me, welcome in! Oh, hey Seungkwan.”
Seungkwan answered with a grunt and headed straight for the refrigerated coffee section, choosing the largest can.
“Uh dude, you good? You look like—”
“Like I haven’t slept all night? I am aware,” He immediately opened his coffee and took a long gulp of the beverage in hopes of feeling even a little better. When it did nothing after 30 seconds, he frowned at the concerned cashier. “Vernon, I will not be paying for this drink, because it is clearly defective. Coffee is supposed to fix everything.”
“Is this about your audition today?” Vernon asked, eyebrows furrowed. “Your monologue sounded really solid last night though. Your audition songs were great too. You totally got this in the bag!”
“It’s not just about the audition, sweet Vernon,” Seungkwan sighed. “It’s about who I’m going to see at the audition. I still don’t know what the fuck I’m going to do.”
“Oh yeah, you are probably going to see them later.” For the past week, all Seungkwan could talk about was the theater tech sophomore that he had met at the theater department’s welcome party. They had sat beside Seungkwan and had helped him through all the fast-paced drinking games, and even took some of his shots when he kept losing. Surely, this was what love felt like.
That was what Seungkwan hoped anyway, because whatever it was made him feel all warm and tingly inside (or it could have just been the alcohol). Nevertheless, he had made big plans to confess to his crush as soon as possible. His dilemma for the past several days was merely a matter of how it would be done. “Not probably! I know for a fact that they will be there, because they told me that they couldn’t wait to see me,” Seungkwan let out a wail and slumped over the counter. “They’re the sweetest, most beautiful person to ever walk the earth and I just want to tell them that I would actually jump off a bridge for them. Why is that so difficult?”
Vernon nodded sympathetically as he always did. “I mean, if you’re not ready today, maybe you could wait?”
“Wait?! No offense babe, but last time I checked, waiting didn’t get you anywhere,” Seungkwan said,  patting his roommate’s arm. Vernon cringed as he was forced to remember his own romantic blunder from the past week. “Clearly, we are both in major need of help. That Woozi guy’s show didn’t do anything for us! Also, we still haven’t heard from that Miss Soju character and it’s been what? Two days? If she’s such an expert, she would know that love is time sensitive!”
“Ugh, I know. I keep refreshing The Front’s website just to see if she’s posted it yet.” Vernon sighed forlornly, which was a common punctuation to his sentences lately. “It’s getting me really antsy. What if she doesn’t even choose to answer our emails this time?”
Seungkwan quickly covered the other freshman’s mouth. “Don’t say that! The universe manifests what we say will happen. We should ask for divine intervention instead.” He cleared his throat in preparation and threw his hands up to the sky. “O Eros, god of love, please shine your blessings down upon my and Vernonie’s love lives for we are but two humble, clueless freshmen in need of romantic guidance. Send down two of your swiftest, sharpest arrows, so that those that we desire may hear your soft whispers—”
Ding. The sound of the entrance bell rang once more, stopping Seungkwan’s prayer short, much to his irritation. “Is this a bad time?” the new customer, an ethereally handsome blonde, asked amusedly. He strode into the store and grabbed two spicy tuna triangle kimbab’s before approaching the counter.
“Jeonghan hyung!”
“Ah, Vernon!” Jeonghan smiled. “I didn’t know you worked here. You should come by my and Cheol’s apartment again soon, that was fun!”
“Hyung, this is my roommate that I told you about-- Seungkwan. And Seungkwan, this is Seungcheol hyung’s roommate,” Vernon said all while ringing up Jeonghan’s food. On the side, Seungkwan bowed sheepishly after unfreezing from his previous pose. “How’s your morning going? You wake up pretty early!”
Jeonghan laughed heartily, shaking his head. “Oh no, I just finished an all-night stream. I just came by to get a snack before heading to bed. Seems like you two have been having a fun morning, though. Do you two always start your day off by praying to the ancient Greek god of desire?”
Seungkwan flushed a deep pink. “Uh no, it was more like a cry of desperation. Vernon and I are having a pretty tough time confessing to our crushes, so I figured we should just try out anything that might help us. Nothing else seems to be working…”
“Wait, that’s so cute,” Jeonghan cooed.
“Would you be able to give us some advice, hyung?” Vernon asked. He didn’t know anything about the senior’s love life, but he did give off the vibe of someone who would know… a lot.
Jeonghan’s eyes twinkled dangerously, a lazy smirk on his lips. “I mean, I could go talk to your little crushes for you, if you’d like. I’m sure I could get some sort of response out of them.”
One look at Jeonghan had Vernon and Seungkwan shaking their heads vehemently.
“No, we’re good.”
“Yeah, no thanks.”
“Mm, good call.” Jeonghan took his food from the counter, and winked at the two boys. “I really wish I could help you both more, but I’m sure you’ll get what you’re waiting for soon! Today, if you want it enough.”
There was something in the way that the senior stated those words that made Seungkwan believe him without a question. It wasn’t a naive suggestion or an optimistic prediction; Jeonghan spoke like it was the truth plainly written on the walls. He finally felt a long-awaited wave exhaustion wash over his anxieties, softening them until they fizzled away alongside the ebbing foam. All that was left behind were grains of sand. Suddenly, Seungkwan yawned,  and he wanted nothing more than to curl up in his twin bed at the dorms.
“Well, I should be heading off to bed! Looks like you should be too, Seungkwan,” Jeonghan said, suppressing his own yawn. The freshman nodded in agreement. He definitely needed to rest up— this was going to be a big day, after all.
“Say hi to Cheol hyung for me when you get home!” Vernon said.
Jeonghan hummed thoughtfully as he made his way back to the entrance of the store. “I will if he’s there! He didn’t come home last night.” He turned to leave the boys with one last sleepy smile, seeming to laugh at something only he knew.
“At least one of us is doing something right.”
Tumblr media
“Jihoon, why can’t I get this right?”
“I’m sorry! This just sounds nothing like you,” Jihoon shrugged. It had been a rather busy morning, but things slowed down as it approached noon, giving him the chance to look at Joohyun’s fourth draft of responses.  “I’ve never heard you say stuff like ‘rad’ or ‘hella’... Like are you aware that you sound like a skater from the late 90’s?”
“That’s because the reference I’ve been using is from 1997!” Joohyun huffed in frustration. She was already backspacing albeit with a little more force than necessary. “I wasn’t even born in ‘97!”
“Exactly, so stop trying to write like that. What if you tried to—”
“Eat my ass, Hong!” The sound of the kitchen door slamming open interrupted Jihoon’s (probably unhelpful) suggestion, and the two best friends watched as Bongseon stormed out of the cafe in a familiar rage. Luckily, there were no customers to witness it this time.
Instinctively, they looked to the kitchen door, where Joshua stood with a resigned smile on his full lips. “Oops,” he said, scratching at the back of his neck apologetically. “Guess it was too soon to joke about our last break. Sorry about that, Jihoon. I’ll try to call in the head baker early to finish up the rest of the pastries for today.”
He walked over to where they sat and plopped himself across from Joohyun. She offered Joshua a look of sympathy, but he responded by twisting his face up in a dumb expression, reassuring her that he was just fine. Still,  she couldn’t help feeling worried for both of her friends. No matter how many times Bongseon and Joshua broke it off and no matter how much Joohyun joked about it, she knew that their strong feelings for each other meant that it hurt a little every time they got into a fight. At least, that’s what she gathered from the various nights she spent soothing Bongseon while the girl cried into a toilet bowl, soju bottle still in hand.
“It’s okay, Josh, you probably don’t have to worry too much. Knowing her, she’ll probably be back in 30 minutes to make up with you and then Jihoon will have to find someone to take over your shift,” Joohyun piped up. “But please take it back to your apartment this time, because I don’t make enough money to have every surface of my apartment sanitized again.”
Joshua let out an easy laugh, as though he were not a man in deep shit. “Thank you, Joo. You always know what to say to make me feel better,” he sighed. “I should probably go after her. I’ll be back soon, Jihoon!”
She waited for him to disappear out the door before turning to her best friend. “Wow, that’s gotta be a new record for them, right? I didn’t even know they got back together until this morning.” Joohyun was surprised to find that Jihoon had been silently staring at her for a good minute now. “...Why are you looking at me?”
“What you said to Joshua,” Jihoon simply replied.
“Oh, I was only joking about the sanitation thing. I just walked in on them once in the kitchen—“
“No I mean, how you said it. Maybe that’s how you should be writing your responses.” Jihoon grinned, watching as Joohyun gave him that look again, the one where she looks at him like he’s speaking from a third head. But he knew that this was going to be another Jihoon Genius moment, which seemed to be happening more frequently lately, much to his satisfaction. “Like you’re talking to one of your friends. I mean, it made Josh feel better, right?”
Joohyun’s eyebrows scrunched together and she mulled the idea over. Without another word to Jihoon, she began to slowly type on her laptop, gradually tapping faster and faster as she gained momentum. Her best friend giddily returned to his place behind the counter to tend to the customers that just walked in. He knew that once she got into a groove, there was no hope of stopping her.
An hour later, Joohyun finally pushed away her laptop and waited for Jihoon to finish wiping down a table before calling him over. For some reason, she was anxious to show him the final product and even when he already sat besie her, she hesitated for a beat. Usually, her writing was professional and objective, always ending with a declarative period. She had spent years perfecting her reporting style so that when she presented the facts, that’s all they were. This, however, felt personal, like it was a part of her. And even though Jihoon probably knew her even better than herself sometimes, there was something so vulnerable about showing someone a side of her that she had only just discovered.
And yet, she was curious to know— desperate to know: was it any good?
“Well?” Joohyun watched for Jihoon’s reaction closely, both impatient and terrified to hear his thoughts.
“Joohyun, this...” Jihoon started slowly. She braced for impact. “This is it. I think you’ve found Miss Soju’s voice.”
She exhaled. “R-really?”
“Yes, really. You answered the questions so thoughtfully, so you know it’s not just some generic bullshit you found on the internet. Plus, it was fun to read, like I think I’d read this even if I didn’t send a letter in,” Jihoon gushed, all while skimming over the words again. He turned to smile brightly at her, reminding Joohyun of a much younger Jihoon back in their elementary school days. “Most importantly though, it’s so you.”
Joohyun returned the smile, just as brightly. Warmth bloomed in her chest and across her cheeks. “Thanks, Jihoon, I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“Honestly, me neither,” Jihoon laughed.
“Um, can I ask you one more thing though?” Joohyun scrolled down to the last two entries, both of which asked for advice on how to make things official with a guy they’ve been talking to. The two letters were extremely similar in detail, but had been sent from two different emails and two different signatures. At first, she thought that maybe her judgement was muddled by her lack of sleep, and as the day went on, she figured her inability to recognize any nuance between the two letters was thanks her lack of experience.
There was just something about the way they had described the boy. She knew that  intelligent, funny, kind-hearted, and unbelievably handsome were pretty generic adjectives. But what were the odds for both letters to also mention his infectious laugh and deep, dark eyes? “Do you think these two are from the same person? I’m trying to go for a confession theme for this article, so I included them both, but I’m afraid they’re too similar.”
Jihoon read them over a couple of times, then shrugged. “They do sound pretty similar, but a lot of people go through that sort of thing. Also, so many people describe their crushes like that, but let’s be real, most of them end up being fuckboys. So trust me, both those people probably need your help. I mean, what’s the harm in publishing both, right?”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right,” Joohyun bit her lip, needing every ounce of reassurance she could get from her best friend. She read over her writing once, twice, thrice more. This was it. No more edits and no more excuses. Her finger hovered over the mousepad. “Okay, I”m going to send it in for approval now. Jihoon, you are about to witness me publish my first article for The Front.”
Joohyun took a deep breath and clicked. Finally.

Chapter 1
The endless chatter and commotion of the marketplace echoed throughout of New Delhi. Various shopkeepers and traders yelled out their so called amazing products or the astonishing sales. Silks, spices, foods, animals, anything you could think of was there. Products were sold and coin flowed in steadily, although not as rapidly as before.
However, you weren’t here to trade or buy anything, although many things did happen to catch your eye. No, you were a reporter sent by a British newspaper company to cover the events of the growing Indian independence movement. The movement had caused quite a stir back in England, and the people there are anxious on what will become of India.
Honestly, although as a reporter you weren’t allowed to give your opinion, you were in the minority among the British, believing that India had a right to become independent from the imperializing country. The British, of course, acted cruel to the natives of the country, acting like they were no more than servants.
In addition to your assignment, you decided to take care of another issue. In your possession, handed to you from your grandmother, you had a small, ornate tapestry heavily influenced with Indian design. You were rather curious on the origins of the item and whether or not it was deemed valuable. You had already gone to many historians, but they all said that it was nothing of note.
You obviously weren’t going to take that as an answer and realized that you could only find what you were looking for by going to its home country, which was why you were currently entering a building acting like you were about to conduct some shady business. You got in contact with a historian who was willing to look at your tapestry and try to see if he could search for it origins. You were elated when he agreed to help you, and you couldn’t help the bubbly feeling of nervous excitement rush through you as you climbed the steps to the place where you both agreed to meet.
The floor you landed on looked like it was supposed to be a fancy bar, what with the fine tablecloths and baskets upon baskets of flowers littered everywhere. You saw many British military men chatting and drinking with familiar company. You ignored them and looked for the historian, who happened to be seated on the balcony looking over the city.
You strolled over to him and stuck your hand out. “Dr. Kim, I presume,” you greeted with a smile.
The man tore his gaze from the ongoings down below and turned his attention to you, a bright smile stretching from ear to ear. The first thing you noticed was how handsome and professional he appeared. His gray suit was nicely pressed without so much as a single hair or piece of lint on it. He adjusted his round glasses before returning your hand shake. “Miss. Y/l/n, so nice to finally meet you,” he replied. “As much as I’d love to stay and discuss your tapestry, I am currently overlooking a university class trip. So I’m afraid we’ll have to make this meeting quick.”
You nodded in understanding. “This won’t be an issue, doctor. I’m rather eager to hear what you have in store.” You both took a seat, and you found the pillow seats to be rather comfortable although quite worn from use.
“Now then,” Dr. Kim began, “may I?”
Once more, you nodded and grabbed the folded cloth from your leather bag. You placed it on the table before unfolding it to reveal the intricate image woven into it centuries ago. Although many colors graced it, it was beginning to fade from age. You could only imagine how vibrant it must’ve looked when it was first crafted.
Dr. Kim adjusted his glasses once more as he took in the history before him. You could practically see the wheels and gears turn in his mind. His eyes scanned it rather intensely, as if it was the last piece of Indian history on earth. Finally, he lifted his eyes up to you with a questioning look. “May I ask where you got this?” he asked, his hand cupping his chin in thought.
You smiled fondly as you recalled the memory. “My grandmother gave it to me. She told me she won it in a game of poker from an Indian lord back in the day,” you chuckled. You and your grandmother were always very close, and you were sad to remember how she passed away just a year prior to this trip. Perhaps she was the reason why you were so adamant on finding answers to the mystery of this tapestry.
The historian laughed almost breathily, and you noticed the cute dimples form as his lips formed a smile. “I should have figured, this doesn’t look like something that an Indian lord would be willing to part with.”
You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion and slight curiousity. “How so?” you prodded further.
He spread out his arms and if to say behold. “Well, this is finely made for starters, only the best quality of thread was used to craft this, and it is nicely preserved as well. The style of design used here suggests that this was made during the classic period of India,” he explained, his eyebrows raised in astonishment.
Unfortunately, you weren’t quite informed on the history of India. So you couldn’t exactly place a year on that given information. “So when’s that?” you asked, feeling a tiny bit embarrassed on how ignorant you were.
“Well...” His voice trailed off as his mind went to work. “If I had to pick a year. I’d say this was made in the early hundreds... B.C.” He rubbed a hand on his neck, as if he couldn’t believe what he was saying.
Your jaw fell unceremoniously as you could feel the air in your lungs disappear instantly. “You’re saying I’ve been carrying an artifact... that’s thousands of years old...?”
He laughed sheepishly and nodded, which only lurched your stomach to your throat. You almost used that tapestry as a napkin on multiple occasions. Also, how on earth has this thing not unraveled or dissolved yet?! “Holy shit...” you breathed out.
“Yeah,” he agreed. “Like I said, this has been preserved very well.”
“Um, yeah, I’d say so...” You ran your fingers through your hair. “How come the other historians back in England didn’t have heart attacks over this?”
Dr. Kim shrugged his shoulders, a small smile gracing his lips. “No offense, but British people aren’t interested in Indian history.” He then looked at his wrist watch abruptly. “Oh, I’m so sorry, Miss. Y/l/n, but I’m afraid I have to get going. I have to make sure my students haven’t wandered off and gotten themselves killed.”
You blinked yourself out of your bewildered daze and redirected your attention to the doctor. “Oh! Erm, of course, doctor. This has all been a very...” Your voice trailed off as you searched for the proper word to use in this situation. “... enlightening experience.” You stood up as you said this and made your way back inside.
“Namjoon, I-”
Suddenly, your body collided into another person, causing yourself to lose your balance all but for a moment. You held up your hands as if show how apologetic you were. Your eyes landed upon a much younger man than Dr. Kim. He had a youthful appearance that made it seem as if he hadn’t even graduated college quite yet. He was dressed in a nice, white button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up, khakis, and brown leather shoes.
You couldn’t help but admire how handsome he was as his chubby cheeks flushed a faint tinge of pink. He smiled sheepishly and rubbed a hand on the back of his neck. “Ah, sorry, ma’am,” he apologized earnestly. “I wasn’t watching where I was going.”
You lowered your hands and returned a warm smile of your own. “It’s no problem. The fault’s mine, my mind is a little frazzled at the moment,” you explained, chuckling at the end of your statement.
Dr. Kim then stepped into the exchange. “Jungkook, I’d like you to meet Miss. Y/l/n. She is a reporter covering the independence movement.”
Jungkook bowed his head in greeting, his dark hair brushing over his beautiful eyes. “Pleased to meet you, ma’am.” You couldn’t help but feel your heart flutter ever so slightly in your chest.
“Jungkook is one of my students,” Dr. Kim informed, a look of pride glimmering in his eyes. “He’s probably here to tell me about the other students, right?”
The student blinked his eyes, as if suddenly remembering why he came up there in the first place. “Oh, yes. Jaehee wanted to show you some pots she believed were made in the eighteenth century.”
The doctor arched an eyebrow in slight interest, digging his hand in his pockets. “Did she now? Well then, I better go and see for myself.” He nodded his head to you. “Miss Y/l/n.” With that, he left with the student. You were now alone with the ancient tapestry. You suddenly felt as if you were unworthy to carry around such a valuable artifact. Perhaps she could donate it to a national museum? Who was she kidding? The British might get wind of it and steal it for themselves.
You grabbed the tapestry and exited the bar, heading down the stairs, your footsteps echoing off the walls. You couldn’t believe it. Your grandmother won a two millennia tapestry in a game of cards. If you went to the right people, you could end up a millionaire. Finally, you could live an easy life without scrambling around for every odd job.
As you reached the bottom of the stairs, you were just about to put the tapestry back in your leather bag, but a cheery voice suddenly spoke up. “That’s quite a drape you have there.”
You turned your head to the source of the sound and found yourself looking at a small, make-shift shop set up in the far back area of the room. Colorful blankets and curtains hung around to give the shop a rather bohemian appearance. The shopkeeper sat on a comfy looking pillow behind his stand, looking up at you with a sweet smile.
Curiousity piqued your interest as you took a few steps at the shop. You brushed away a few giant leaves from the potted plants arranged at the sides of his stall. His whole vibrant arrangement gave off a rather magical, almost fairytale aesthetic.
“It’s not a drape,” you corrected him. “It’s a tapestry.”
He tilted his head to the side quizzically. “What is the difference between a drape and a tapestry?” he questioned, his chin resting on his folded hands.
You pondered on it for a few moments. “A tapestry has images on it, I suppose.”
“I guess you’re right there,” he replied, a rich laughter escaping his lips.
You looked at a sign standing next to him that was written in both Indian and English. “Hope’s... World...?” you read questioningly.
He smiled sweetly again. “My wish is for my products to be the solution for all your hopes and dreams.” He gestured for you to sit on the pillow laid out on the other side of where he was sitting.
You accepted his invitation and sat down, mostly because you were curious of what this shop exactly was. “So then... Mr...?”
“Hoseok,” he introduced himself, extending a hand out to you, which you shook. You then gave him your name
“Alright then, Hoseok, what is it that you do exactly?” you asked, noticing all the different spices and herbs strewn about on various shelves.
Suddenly, Hoseok got up from his seat and moved toward the back shop. “I’m what you call in your language a tea merchant,” he explained. “I simply sell teas that help ease all your troubles away.” He then returned with two cups and a steaming pot. He sat back down on his pillow and poured the warm liquid in both cups, offering you one.
You gladly accepted the drink and sipped on it, tasting the sweet spices on your tongue. “Is this chai tea?” you questioned, quirking an eyebrow.
He laughed again, setting the pot to the side. “Ah, you British, you know your teas very well.” He then whispered, “It’s a secret recipe of mine. My mother would kill me if I told you.”
You then smiled as you took another drink. “Say no more, I had a grandmother who has an amazing custard tart that she said she’d take to her grave,” you recalled, chuckling at the fond memories. Your mind began to relax and feel calm. You were unsure if it was because of the tea or the soothing atmosphere of the tea shop that calmed you.
Hoseok gave you an excited grin. “May I see your tapestry, please?” He bounced on his pillow like a child opening his presents on Christmas. You couldn’t help but comply with what he asked. After all, it was merely two thousand years old. What’s the worst that could happen?
As you unfolded the tapestry, Hoseok viewed it over intently, running his long fingers over the fabric. He seemed absolutely enthralled by the worn pictures and faded colors. His childlike eyes ran over the tapestry over and over again, taking everything in as if he would never see it ever again. He finally tore his gaze away and looked up with a knowing smile. “This tells a story, you know,” he revealed, catching you off guard.
You raised your eyebrows in astonishment. “Really?”
He nodded eagerly. “Yes, you see these people here...” He pointed to a group of people who appeared to be fleeing away from soldiers on horses, who were firing their bows upon them. You couldn’t help but feel slight pity for them, but nonetheless nodded. “These aren’t Indians at all. They are, in fact, my ancestors, Koreans, fleeing from their homeland from the Chinese in 108 B.C.” He then pointed at the soldiers. “My people fled to protect the most valuable treasure in our kingdom. The Dragon of the Stars, said to be made of every precious gemstone on earth.” He moved his finger back to animated Korean who was carrying something in his arms, but the color was too faded to really decipher what it was. On the other hand, you could barely make out the outline of what appeared to be a small dragon. However, you would have never known it was a dragon if Hoseok hadn’t pointed it out.
The tea seller continued, “My people fled to the one place the Chinese couldn’t reach, where this tapestry was made.”
“India,” you breathed out, followed by a stifled yawn. “I’m sorry, I don’t find this boring. Please continue.”
Hoseok chuckled. “I suppose it has been a very exciting day for you. It certainly has been for me now that I’ve seen this.” His eyes crawled back down to the tapestry. “You are a lucky woman to have this. I’d estimate this would cost a few million.”
You leaned against your propped up arm, finding your eyelids to grow heavier and heavier by the second. “A few million?” You drawled out, yawning once more. “That’s a lot... Say, Hoseok, how could you tell this explained that story just by looking at it?”
Hoseok smiled, finding your drowsy attitude to be rather cute. “I guess you could say I’ve always been interested in the history of my people.”
You mumbled in agreement. “I should be going now. I don’t know why I’m suddenly exhausted right now.” You reached out to grab the tapestry, content with the knowledge Hoseok shared with you. In fact, once you rested up, you were definitely going to find someone who would pay the right price for this.
You could see the deflated look in Hoseok’s eyes, but he reluctantly allowed you to leave. “Here, let me help you,” he offered, folding up the tapestry into a neat pile.
You were about to help him when a huge bout of exhaustion overwhelmed you. You swayed from side to side, finding the floor to sway as you wobbled. Your eyelids felt as if weights hung from them, dragging them down further by the second. You felt as if you hadn’t slept in a week.
“Hoseok...” you mumbled before suddenly collapsing to the floor.
The last thing you saw before you fell into unconsciousness was Hoseok smiling sweetly upon you with the radiance of a thousand suns. He looked absolutely heavenly, as if he was a god come down to bestow his blessings upon you. “Sweet dreams, Y/n...”
You obeyed him and fell into a deep sleep.

“Sargent Barnes, Mr. Stark, and the others are on their way here,” Jarvis says softly.
Bucky grimaces and looks down at you curled into a tight ball next to him breathing softly. It took about 30 seconds for you to drift off after you laid your head on his chest. You need this rest, desperately, so the thought of waking you pains him but it has to happen.
“Doll,” he gives your right hand a squeeze and kisses your head, “you have to wake up.” You groan a little and shift, “Come on, we’ll get this over with and you can sleep all you want.” He’d make damn sure of that.
Sitting up you rub your eyes, “How long was I out?”
“Just about fifteen minutes.” He reaches for your mug, “Here.”
“Thanks,” you take a huge gulp and go to get up for more.
“I got it,” Bucky plucks the mug from your grip.
“I can-” you begin to protest.
“Hush,” he says, “you’re a guest let me fill your mug.” As he’s pouring Jarvis announces the arrival of the team.
He meets your gaze from across the apartment. You look worried for an instant, unsure. He’s pretty sure he feels the same. But still, you nod strongly, ready to face whatever came.
“Let them in, Jarvis.”
Everyone flows in as he hands you the mug and takes his spot next to you once more. He knows it’s bad hosting etiquette, his ma would have a fit at him for not rising to greet guests or making them their drinks. It doesn’t matter. They aren’t his priority right now and he knows, it’s a power move.
Steve’s the first one in, “Coffee?” He asks.
“Yup, carafe full in the kitchen, help yourselves.”
Natasha is after Steve and she casts a worried look at Y/N who is refusing to lift her eyes from the coffee table, hands white-knuckled around her mug. Bucky gives her knee a reassuring squeeze and she looks at him with a halfhearted smile. Even that sends his heart fluttering a bit.
No one says anything as they fill their mugs and find a seat. Natasha takes the spot next to you on the couch. You turn to her. Bucky catches the warm smile she offers you and hears the whispered, “I got your back.” The loose bun on top of your head bobs as you nod in acknowledgment of her statement and your eyes focus back on the table.
He notices your right hand gripping your knee, small sparks just visible under the surface of your skin. Uncaring he takes your hand in his metal one. To his surprise you take it, holding tight enough to break a regular human's delicate bones there. For him though, it feels reassuring.
Tony sits across from you in one of the dining chairs and Steve is in the large chair to Bucky’s right, where he always is when he’s over. Everyone else but Thor is here, having had to leave a few days prior for some god business or other.
Bucky hears Tony take a breath as if about to speak but he’s interrupted by Sam.
“Hold up,” he lifts a hand in the air and gestures to the two of you on the couch, “I obviously missed something. Didn’t you threaten to kill him the other day?” Anger flashes through Bucky and he glares at Sam. You however just let out a little laugh.
“Sharp aren’t ya?” You quip and Sam’s face softens in a look that’s almost relief. He is your friend, after all, Bucky reminds himself.
“You owe me,” Clint whispers loudly at Natasha and she rolls her eyes. Another giggle comes from you and Bucky feels like he’s the one missing something now.
Sighing Tony dives in, “Sam does have a point there. You did threaten to kill a team member, Y/N, that’s a pretty serious issue.”
“I deserved it,” Bucky says staring Tony down.
“Oh?”
Your hand squeezes his and he continues, “I made a bad call. Would have gotten myself killed and probably everyone in range too. Y/N, made a better call. I behaved like an ass after. So any repercussions should be on me, not her.”
Steve snorts, “This isn’t the army, pal.” Bucky looks at his best friend, leaning forward in the chair smiling a half smile at the two of you. “No one’s going to get court marshaled. And this sure as shit isn’t Hydra, no one is going to be punished. We just need to know what happened.”
“And what exactly you were all up against down there,” Tony takes a sip of the coffee and gives an approving nod toward the cup before continuing. “Nat and Steve said… well that whatever came at you was-”
“Like me,” you finish the statement, voice hollow.
Tony nods, “Not that we even know exactly what like you means, Y/N. Plus there were the two other…”
“Assets,” Bucky whispers, the word leaving a bitter taste on his tongue.
“Yeah. Three seemingly high investments left alone? What’s that about?” Everyone is staring at the two of you waiting for an answer.
Bucky takes a deep breath. “That was an Asset Facility. It’s where… where they work on special projects as they call them. Where they make-”
“Weapons,” your voice again is devoid of any emotion. He looks at you a second before continuing.
“They likely got wind of our surveillance somehow and abandoned ship. Knew the project wouldn’t survive anyway and the other two assets were expendable puppets, not a high investment like…” He almost said like us but the words won’t come out. They all seem to understand anyway.
“We found the woman, the… project,” Tony grimaces a bit at the dehumanizing term, “and another corpse that was…”
“Incinerated…” you say. Bucky looks at you, he wasn’t aware of this.
“So you saw that one too?” Tony leans back in his chair. You nod. “Did one attack the other or?” You shake your head, eyes focused on the coffee in your left hand, grip tightening on his hand.
“No…” your hand trembles and he’s about to demand they all leave when you keep going, “they… it… I guess the best way to put it is spontaneous combustion. They burned themselves out. Alone. In that cell.” It’s the last bit that sucks the air out of the room, each person imagining what that kind of death would have been like.
Bruce clears his throat, fingers toying with a loose thread on his cardigan, “We, uh, did an autopsy on the woman.” You don’t look at him, just nod. “Her internal organs were… almost…” He clears his throat again trying to find the words to make the horrific more palatable and coming up empty, “Cooked, basically. She was burned from the inside out. There was no way she would have survived much longer in that state.”
Something like a hollow laugh comes from you, “Yeah. Call it a mercy killing if you want.”
“What we want is to know how someone in that condition could pose such a threat.” Tony’s tone is matter of fact, not aggressive, but it rankles Bucky’s nerves either way.
“You saw what she did to Steve,” it still made Bucky shiver, thinking of Steve being hurt.
“True,” Tony nods, “but you can’t tell me that you two couldn’t have handled that faster or-”
“She was going to blow,” your voice is surprisingly steady.
Bucky’s eyes shoot to you, “Don’t.” Your gaze slowly meets his. The two of you should have spoken about this earlier, should have worked out a plan.
“They need to know,” the look in your eyes feels like a knife in his belly. You’re terrified. He feels your hand release a bit but he refuses to let go. Taking a deep shaky breath you go for it.
“Like me, is a complicated thing to quantify… I don’t even really know how I do what I do or exactly how they made this happen. But at some level I’m…” You shudder and squeeze his hand, “I’m basically a human-shaped atomic bomb.”
Silence hangs as you gather your thoughts. “This… ability can be overloaded, pushed to a point that the energy will release all at once with enough force… well, I don’t actually know how much. I’m still here so that obviously hasn’t been tested. And she…” You're shaking all over now.
Bucky takes over, “There’s a tell. Bright pulsing, all over the body, one solid light. The project did that. We both knew what that meant in context to Y/N.” He glances at you and notices a tendril of light snaking up the side of your neck, “I made the call to hold the project off until Y/N could get the others to safety. The more I could distract her the less time it would take to blow. A gunshot or too much physical contact could cause it to go off too. It was a… delicate situation.”
“So how did you…?” Natasha says softly.
“She lashed out at Bucky, I took the blow like I had earlier, redirected her own energy back at her straight through her heart. I hope-”
“Wait…” Tony’s brows are knit. “You’re telling me you have the capacity to… overload?! And you don’t actually know what the consequences of that could be? So anytime you could just snap and kill everyone in range, Y/N?!
“That’s enough, Tony,” Bucky knows murder is dripping from each syllable.
“No. It’s not,” he slams his mug down. “That’s putting not only this team but innocent civilians at risk every time, all the time, you’re-”
“I’m not like her,” your voice is barely above a whisper, tremors visibly shaking your body. “I’m. Not.” You look up and meet Tony’s furious stare, “I have control. For whatever reason, I was able to contain this. I wouldn’t… I’d never… hurt any of you…” Your eyes dart around the room, frantically, begging someone to believe you. Bucky does, though he knows that control is… a relative term.
“I know,” Natasha lays a reassuring hand on your left thigh. “We know,” she flashes a murderous look at Tony.
“Wanting and doing aren’t always the same thing,” Tony says sighing. “Sorry, I’m not attacking you I’m just… thrown.” Your lips are pursed trying to keep your composure. Bucky catches Natasha’s worried look over your hunched shoulders.
“I can handle her,” Bucky’s voice is gruff. He hates saying this.
“What does that mean,” Sam’s gaze is cold.
“It means I can keep her from doing anything she can’t live with.” Sam just shakes his head and looks away, anger clear. Good, Bucky liked that Sam hated the thought of that almost as much as he did.
“But you couldn’t handle the one in the facility?” Tony again, isn’t trying to be an ass but that’s how it seems to Bucky.
“Not in the same way…” Fuck, he doesn’t know if you know exactly how he can handle you but… well, now you would. “It’s… there’s trigger words.” Your head shoots to him. Great, so you didn’t know. “Somehow they redirect the energy inside and cause…” He swallows hard, unable to say it, looking down at your hand still somehow confidently gripping his.
“Like the one in the cell?” Clint asks, voice soft. Bucky nods.
Tony lets out a long sigh and looks to Steve, begging him to take control of the situation.
Finally, Steve speaks. “How many more of you are there, Y/N?”
You stare at him for a long minute, “I didn’t know there were any." Bucky feels you begin to shake again. “As far as I knew I was the only one. They stopped when it worked with me. Even then…”
He remembered them complaining. Wipes lasted shorter times on you, the chair wasn’t as effective likely due to your own energy, making you difficult to control. Because of that, you were only brought out to the field for very select ops and often with not only a handler but the Soldier in tow.
“Why would they make more of you now?” Steve’s tone is measured, he can tell you’re shaken and he’s trying to be gentle. Bucky appreciates him silently. He’s worried you’re about to break but you take a deep breath, steadying yourself, this question seems to somehow bring you back to center.
“Why not? If they have the means a human-shaped bomb… that’s a statement maker. After everything it’s possible what’s left of Hydra is in the mood to make just such a statement.”
[Reader]
Nail meet head.
Everyone falls into a heavy silence. They’re either looking anywhere but you or right at you. The weight of your statement weighing on each individual.
You’d been thinking this over since the mission. It’s been one of the few things you could focus on with any accuracy. Setting your coffee down you hold your left hand up you watch the tiny points of light glow under your skin.
“I don’t really know how they did it…” Solid threads of light glow up your fingers, “All I know is it took years.” Natasha shifts next to you, the thought of that making her uncomfortable, Bucky gives your right-hand a reassuring squeeze. You hadn’t spoken of this… ever. “Years, trial and error… and a whole hell of a lot of pain. Unless they were working on them before, and I doubt it, they’re rushing this.”
“So their chances of success are slim,” Tony says, relief in his tone almost hopeful.
You cast him a dark gaze, “Their chances of repeating me are slim. Even more so without some form of the serum but…”
“They don’t need to repeat you to make a statement,” Natasha says next to you. You nod in agreement.
“All they have to do is place some half baked human bombs in key locations and people will start looking at high profile enhanced individuals with distrust.” You look around the room, “More distrust than they already do that is…” It was Hydra’s way. Indirect control.
Tony lets out a loud breath and gets up. He paces around the room a few times while your words sink into everyone.
“Ok,” Bruce huffs out. All eyes shift to him. “They’re trying to replicate you as best they can, given their limited resources. That means you’re the best lead we’ve got.” He pauses looking over at Tony, “We’ve been wanting to… examine your abilities for a while-”
“She’s not a science experiment,” Steve snaps. Bucky looks over at him, a pleased smile on his face.
“Of course not,” Bruce hold up his hands. “We never said anything because we wanted to give Y/N time to settle in here.” Tony slumps back in his chair.
“Look,” Tony leans forward, elbows on his knees, “we would never do something without your consent but… Y/N, you gotta throw us a bone here. We don’t even know what we’re dealing with when it comes to you and now this-”
“This is-” Bucky’s tone and the tremor in his hand says he’s about to go off, you cut him off.
“I’m down.”
“Y/N…” Bucky turns to you, face a mask of concern.
“It’s ok,” you give him a small smile. “You’re right, Bruce, I’m the best lead. What do you need from me.”
The shock on Bruce’s face is evident, “Oh… uh… no-nothing invasive. If we can get some solid energy scans from you, blood samples while your power is active, stuff like that we can start putting together an algorithm that can scan for that specific energy signature and variants close to it. See if they’re trying this elsewhere.”
“I can also try to come up with a suit or something similar that can keep you from… overloading so Manchurian over here,” you glance at Bucky, he hates this nickname from Tony, “won’t ever have to use whatever Jedi mind trick he has to make you blow yourself up.”
Relief floods your system. You hoped for an outcome like this but you didn’t let yourself believe it could really happen. A shaky half laugh trips over your lips, “That’s it?” Tears prick at your eyes as you scan the room.
“For now. Give me 24 hours I’m sure I can cook up some other fun ideas if you’re going to let us play with this,” Tony sweeps his hands up and down in your direction, “whatever the hell it is in your system.”
A soft smile lights his face, “You’re one of us, Y/N, we just needed to know you were ok. That you weren’t about to light Ice Boy on fire at a moment’s notice.” The smile turns impish, “And since it looks like you’re lighting him up in a whole different way-”
“Excuse you-” You jab an elbow hard into Bucky’s ribs. The tension breaks as everyone laughs at his surprised wheeze. Even Bucky is smiling as he looks down at you.
Steve stands, “I think that’s all we need to worry about for now.” He looks down at you two, a tender look on his face, “We’ll get out of your hair.” Everyone stands, including you and Bucky.
You sway a bit on your feet as Natasha pulls you into an embrace, “Get some rest please,” she whispers in your ear. You give her a solid nod in acknowledgment.
“Sparks,” Tony calls to you as Steve and Bucky embrace. You make your way to him, feeling more and more unsteady. He rests his hands on your shoulders, supporting you, “Anything you need you let me know, anything.” His gaze is intense.
“I will, Tony.” His eyebrows raise in doubt, “I promise. This was… I just…”
“I get it,” he smiles. “I’ll make you a recovery playlist,” he pats your shoulder and heads for the door. Turning he points to you, “Be sure to play it loud enough to annoy the grump.” You look to your right as Bucky approaches you, his eyes rolling.
You laugh, “You got it, boss.” Tony winks and heads out as Bucky slips a supportive arm around your waist. You’re grateful and lean into his steady frame.
“You have so much explaining to do, traitor” Sam quips, a kind smile on his face.
“You’re still my number one jetpack, Wilson, don’t be butthurt.”
He cups your cheek then glares at Bucky, “Take care of her.”
“I will,” you’re surprised at the smile playing on his lips.
“If you don’t, Winter Soldier or not I’ll beat your ass.”
“Sam, grown nuclear risk woman here,” you pat his hand still resting on your face, “I’ll be good.”
He smiles, “Oh I’ll whoop your ass too if you don’t take care of yourself. Just making sure he knows what’s what.” Tenderly, he pats your face and steps back. “Call your therapist,” he winks, Sam was always on you about it. He claps Steve on the shoulder before he’s gone too.
Steve is the last one there. Pulling away from Bucky you give the Captain a heartfelt hug. “Look out for him,” he whispers in your ear. Everyone could see how wrecked you were. Bucky wasn’t much better, it was just less visible. But Steve could see it plain as day. Your heart swells a bit in your chest to know someone is paying attention to Bucky’s needs too.
You hold his gaze and nod. A smile fills Steve’s face telling you he can sense just how much was held in that gesture.
“You both get some rest,” he says after he and Bucky exchange a hug.
“Aye, aye, Cap,” you give him a half-hearted salute.
“You’re worse than Tony,” he calls over his shoulder.
You laugh, “That cuts deep Steve.”
He turns back, “So sure. Call if either of you needs anything.”
Immediately you bury your face in Bucky’s chest, breathing in his reassuring smell. His arms curl around you, holding you tight pressing a kiss on top of your head.
“I told you it would be fine,” you say pressing your cheek against his sternum.
“That you did,” he sighs, “could have easily not been though.”
“Can’t live on could have beens Buck,” his stomach growls. “Wait,” you pull back and give him a once over, “you didn’t eat anything earlier.” He shrugs. Guilt washes over you for not realizing before. You grab his hand and start to drag him to the kitchen.
“I’m good, Y/N,” he laughs a little, “really. You don’t have to-”
“Shut up,” you push him on to one of the stools. “What kind of food do you have here?” Opening his fridge you groan. Eggs, protein shakes, a couple more of those Pedialyte drinks, and a few pre-made meals from one of those ‘healthy’ restaurants on the lower floors of the tower.
Groaning you look around the door to him, “You are such a dude.”
He laughs, “Not up to your standards?”
“Not by a long shot,” you flash him a smirk. “Ok, eggs, one of those terrible meal things, or order out?”
“Those meals aren’t bad,” he protests.
“They taste like fucking cardboard.”
“Eggs, because I don’t want to face your judgement,” he says smiling standing up, “but I can make-”
“Get back on that stool before I tie you to a chair.”
He sits and smirks at you, “Maybe later, doll,” he winks.
Once he’s eaten and you’ve downed a protein bar and bottle of Pedialyte you’re both just about ready to topple over.
“Thanks,” he smiles back at you as he loads the dishwasher.
“Just returning the favor.”
He rounds the island and tilts your face up to his, thumbs grazing your cheekbones. “I don’t know about you but I need sleep.” You nod.
Wordlessly the two of you undress and crawl into bed. The feeling of his skin on yours, his soft breath on the back of your neck, the steady thrumming of his heart, they make everything else fall away.
“Sleep well, doll,” he whispers against your ear.
And you do.

The earliest clear reference I've found is for 'Reward Goody Gumdrop Ice-cream' which was marketed by the Baskin-Robbins ice-cream parlour stores in their early years, which was late 1940s/early 1950s in USA. In other places it is suggested that Goody Goody Gumdrop Ice Cream first appeared in the UNITED STATES in 1965. There also appears to be a typical use the expression for ice-cream containing gumdrop sweets in New Zealand. Using the goody gumdrop expression alike speech would certainly likely have pre-dated its use as a branding device for ice-cream.

This is an adaptation of the earlier expression to be 'throughout' something or somebody significance to be stressed or absorbed by. A similar expression to the 'cheap suit' metaphor is 'throughout him/her like a breakout' which is adaptable in regards to gender, as well as once again likens personal interest to something certainly 'on' the victim, like a match or a rash. I'm keen to discover the earliest use of the 'cheap suit' expression - please tell me if you remember its use prior to 1990, or better still can suggest a substantial renowned very early estimated instance which may have developed it. Chambers Dictionary of Etymology varies somewhat with the OED in recommending that charm replaced the earlier English punctuation charism around 1875. The choice of the 1953 Much shorter OED for the words charism as well as charm recommends that prominent use of personal appeal came much later than 1875. Decharne's Thesaurus of Hipster Vernacular in fact referrals a quote from the Hank Janson unique Chicago Chick" 'It's insane male,' I informed him, 'Genuine crazy. Strictly for the birds.'" - yet doesn't state whether this was the initial use. Brewer's Dictionary of Expression as well as Myth absolutely makes no mention of it which suggests it is no earlier than 20th century. The term alludes the tiny minds of birds, as well as expressions such as 'bird-brain', as an allegory for people of minimal knowledge. amateur - non-professional or un-paid, or much more recently a disparaging term meaning less than professional - the word originates from the very same spelling in Old French 'amateur' meaning 'fan', originally suggesting in English a lover of a task.

Can you become a virgin again?
Regardless of your situation, there's nothing you can do to grow your hymen back. A virgin is someone who's never had sex. But people define “sex” and “losing virginity” in many different ways. Bottom line: the definition of virginity is complicated, and it's really up to you to decide what you believe.
Interestingly the ancient Indo-European root word for club is glembh, really similar to the root word for golf. expat/ex-pat - individual living or working abroad - the contemporary 'deportee' (as well as progressively hyphenated 'ex-pat') expression is typically thought to be a reducing of 'ex-patriot', however this is not real. Around 1800 the migrant word became utilized as a noun to imply an expatriated person, yet still after that in the sense of an eliminated individual, as opposed to one that had willingly moved abroad. The very early use of the expatriate word defined the loss of citizenship from one's homeland, not a short-term or reversible circumstance. Using expatriate in its modern-day interpretation appears to have actually begun around 1900, and was popularised by Lilian Bell's novel 'The Expatriate', regarding rich Americans residing in Paris, released in 1902. Strictly speaking therefore, the correct kind is expat, not ex-pat.
Can guys tell if a girl is virgin?
It's possible, but not guaranteed that he won't know. Will he be able to tell you're a virgin by looking at you naked? No. In fact, some experts say there may be no way to tell if a woman is a virgin, even with gynecological tests.
Why Cryo?
In 1968 the pop group 1910 Fruitgum Firm had a little UK chart success with a tune called Goody Reward Gumdrops, and there is no doubt that the expression was securely established in the UK, UNITED STATES and Aus/NZ by the 1960s. There is some association with, as well as understandably some influence from the 'Reward 2 Shoes' expression, because the significance is basically buffooning or putting down a gain of some sort. cul-de-sac - dead-end road, a roadway shut at one end/blind street - this extensively utilized English road indication as well as term is from the French, implying the exact same, from cul and cavity. By the way, calling a person a 'cul' in French relates to the disparaging English term 'arse', considering that cul also indicates the bottom or backside of an individual. I am educated additionally that cul de sac is considered as a rather off-color expression by the French when they see it on British road signs; the French use instead the term 'impasse' on their own dead-end street signs. The orginal usage comes from the French créole, from Portuguese crioulo, connected the Portuguese verb criar, to raise, from Latin creare, indicating produce. The name 'Socks' was rather pronounced the champion, as well as the feline properly called.

It merely originates from the actual meaning as well as make use of to explain covering the eyes with a hood or blindfold.
It particularly associates with specific enthusiasms and feeling of satisfaction or fate. The satisfaction of personal objective - past academic and parental conditioning. A basis of evaluating whether you have actually made the most of your life, when it's far too late to have another go. As at September 2008 Google listings 97 uses this word on the entire internet, but most/very most of those appear to be inputting mistakes accidentally joining words life and also hoping, which don't count. I'm open to suggestions or insurance claims of initial usage and also origination. Sometimes you can see the birth or very early growth of a brand-new word, prior to basically anyone else, as well as certainly before the thesaurus. If you read this in 2008 or perhaps early 2009, after that this is possibly one of those events.
Words mews is actually from Falconry, in which birds of prey such as goshawks were made use of to catch rabbits and other game. Falconry ended up being immensely prominent in medieval England, and was a preferred sporting activity of nobility till the 1700s. The imperial stables, originally developed in Charing Cross London in the mid-1200s, were on the website of hawks mews, which caused the word mews to move to stables. lifelonging/to long-lasting - something purposeful wanted all of your life/or the verb sense of wanting something for your whole life - a just recently evolved portmanteau word.
Is ThermiVa permanent?
Though the results of ThermiVa are not permanent, they are long-lasting. Many people enjoy a noticeable improvement in the look and feel of their vaginal tissues for up to a year after their three treatment sessions. To maintain your results, you may wish to return for touch-up appointments every six months to a year.
Today's metaphorical expression and also meaning 'to deceive' created in the very early 17thC from the earlier use the word to imply 'hide' in the late 16thC. Her makeover is characterised by her having simply a single shoe when poor, and also being given a pair of footwear, which noted the beginning of her new found and obviously enthusiastically self-proclaimed joy. The expression could be from as much back as the mid-1800s, since 'goodie/goody' has actually been used to explain delicious food ever since, which would certainly have offered additional significance to the definition of the expression. Likewise, the word gumdrop as a name for the selection of crunchy sugared gum tissue desserts seems to have gotten in American English speech in around 1860, according to Chambers. However it's most likely that preferred usage of goody gumdrops started in the mid-1900s, among youngsters, when mass-marketing of the sugary foods would certainly have raised.

Charm, which probably expanded from charming, which grew from charismata, had actually greatly drunk its spiritual organizations by the mid 1900s, and also progressed its non-religious meaning of charisma by the 1960s. Even more detail concerning the origins and interpretations of personal appeal is on the personal appeal website. Maker's view is that playing cards were established from an Indian game called 'The Four Rajahs', which follows the idea that the roots of playing cards were Eastern. In The Four Rajahs video game the playing pieces were the King; the General (described as 'fierche'); the Elephant (' phil'); the Horsemen; the Camel (' ruch'); and also the Infantry. Similarly Maker says that the Elephant, 'phil', was converted into 'fol' or 'fou', suggesting Knave, equivalent to the 'Jack'.
Chambers actually consists of a whole lot more detail regarding the variations of the diet words relating to food especially, for instance that the word diet professional appeared as late as 1905. It is fascinating that the initial Greek meaning and derivation of the diet - program of life - relates so highly to the modern-day concept that 'we are what we eat', which diet plan is so very closely connected to exactly how we feel and also act as individuals. The modern diet regimen word currently reverberates clearly with its real original definition.

The images of a black cloak as well as mask eye-holes consequently provided the inspiration for the dominoes video game to be supposed - in both languages the video game was originally called domino, not dominoes. Interestingly, nitty-gritty got here in Italy also later on, around 1830, from France, cycle to its Latin origins. So, while the lord as well as master roots exist as well as no question aided the adoption of the name, the exact organization is to a black cape and also mask, instead of lordly prominence or the winning objective of the game. Words entered the English language by regarding 1200, as well as 1450, from the Greek, with Latin, then French. The diet plan meaning assembly was additionally affected by Latin passes away definition days, connecting to journal and also timing. The Latin kind diaeta also generated the German tag as it shows up in words for setting up, Reichstag, Bundestag, and Landtag.
The terms 'cookie collapsing' (pertaining to busts and also intercourse - use your creativity), 'cookie duster', and 'cookie crumbs' (Costs Clinton's downfall) prolong the the sexual connotations into even more bawdy territory. The irony is of course that no-one would have been any type of the smarter about these significances had the Blue Peter management not sought to safeguard all of us. The use of the word clue - as a metaphor based upon the round of thread/maze tale - referring to solving an enigma is first videotaped in 1628, and also earlier as clew in 1386, in Chaucer's Legend of Excellent Women. The allusion is to the clingy and also evident nature of an inexpensive fit, most likely of a tacky/loud/garish/ tasteless design. When it comes to adulation there may additionally an idea of toadiness or sycophancy.

Shatter Windows || Ch 2
Tumblr media
Chapter 1  |  Chapter 2
Genre: Soulmate AU, fluff, angst
Pairing: Taehyung x Reader (ft. Jungkook)
Summary: Having your soul tied to the person you love for the rest of eternity isn’t as beautiful and magical as most make it out to be.  (Based around the Prologue, I Need U, Run MV’s)
A month into the new school year and Jungkook and I had managed to get closer; however, there was still a lot about Jungkook I didn’t know.  I thought that we could become closer if we hung out outside of school.  So I might have let it slip that I wanted to possibly hang out sometime.  It seemed to have worked because a few days later Jungkook asked if I wanted to grab coffee sometime.  So, we arranged to meet up at a coffee shop on the weekend but it was still a little strange.  The way he asked would have made me consider this a date, if it were not for how uninterested Jungkook seemed in having a relationship from prior conversations we’ve had.  Even so, I got all dressed up as if it were like a date.  I must have changed at least 10 times before finally deciding on a light sundress with a faded jean jacket.  My hair and makeup were equally as time consuming since I couldn’t find a look I liked.  I checked my phone one last time to make sure I had the right address before heading out to the coffee shop.
When I arrived at the shop, Jungkook came out to greet me.  He was wearing an unbuttoned red, black, and white flannel over a white shirt.  His dark jeans cuffed up to show off the timberland boots that he was oh so proud of.
“Hey, Y/N, you look nice.”
“Thanks, Jungkook.”  I grinned happily at the compliment.  I could have sworn I saw a blush dust across his cheeks, but mentally shrugged it off.  “Did I make you wait long?”
“Not really, I did order an Americano for you.  Hope you don’t mind.”  I shook my head as he led me back to the table and handed me my drink.
“Thank you.”  I smiled, taking the cup.  “To be honest I was actually surprised you invited me out this weekend.”  I laughed before taking a sip of my drink.
“Really?”  Jungkook let out a small chuckle, before messing with his hair.  “Why?  Is it weird that I did?”
“No, no” I shook my head laughing.  “I just thought you spent your weekends with your hyungs.  I just assumed you were normally busy.”
“Well I do, we normally just hang out later in the day.”
“What do you guys do anyways?  If you don’t mind me asking.”
“Just stuff.”  Jungkook shrugged.  His eyes wavered from me off to the side before widening.  “Shit…” he mumbled under his breath and slid down in his chair bringing his hand up to hide his face.
“What is it?”  I was turning in the direction Jungkook was looking before he pulled me down to hide.  “Jungkook what’s wrong?”  I whispered utterly confused.  Why is he acting like this?
“It’s nothing.  Just keep your head down and they’ll go away.  Probably…  Man, this sucks I thought they were busy…”
“Who are you talking about?”  I tried to peek over to see who Jungkook was talking about.  The cafe was rather empty right now so it wasn’t hard to find the two guys he must have been trying to avoid.  The two guys were possibly a few years older than we were.  They were just ordering some coffee like everyone else, which made Jungkook’s reaction even more peculiar.  They were just your average-looking guys; the shorter of the two was looking up at the menu running his hand through short but fluffy orange dyed hair.  He wore an army green jacket with the sleeves rolled up over a plain white tee and light ripped jeans.  The taller one was smiling and charming the barista while he ordered.  His hand reaching into the pocket of his black varsity jacket.  Once he finished paying, his eyes scanned the cafe and locked with mine.  He smirked and gave me a wink.  Quickly, I turned back to facing at Jungkook, a blush of embarrassment spreading across my cheeks from being caught staring.
“Um, so who are those guys?”
“Those are my hyungs…”  Jungkook groaned, running his hand through his hair.  “Oh god, they’re coming over here.”  The two guys slowly made their way over to our table before sitting down with us.  The orange headed one sat next to Jungkook as the varsity jacket one sat next to me.
“I hope we’re not crashing your date with Y/N, Kookie.”  The one sitting with Jungkook nudged at him with his shoulders, chuckling.  Jungkook just rolled his eyes and crossed his arms; Not bothering to hide his disdain about them being here.
“Not to be rude, but how do you know my name?”  I spoke up, interrupting the small banter between the two across from me.
“Oh, has Kookie not talked about us?”  He faked a pout at Jungkook before turning to me with a smile.  “We’re Kookie’s friends.  My name is Park Jimin.”
“And I’m Jung Hoseok.  Jungkook talks about you a lot to us.  All good things, it’s kind of cute.”  Jimin and Hoseok laughed.
“Hyung!  Don’t tell her things like that.”  Jungkook groaned, hiding his face in his hand and I couldn’t help but let out a small giggle.  After our laughter died and Jungkook’s embarrassment passed, Jungkook started questioning his friends.
“So why are you guys here anyway.  I thought you two were going to be busy this weekend.”
“I’m free right now but later when we normally hang out I’ll be working.”  Jimin stated shrugging his shoulders.
“As for me, I have a blind date.”  Hoseok took a sip of his drink; his eyes gravitated over to me catching me staring once again.
“Are you taking Y/N with you to meet the other guys?”  Jimin grinned, glancing between Jungkook and me while he ate the small cake he got with his drink.  I gave Jungkook a questioning look since I had no idea what today’s plans were.  He avoided my gaze, favoring the view out the window instead.
“No, that’s why I asked her out before we normally hang out.  I don’t need you guys bothering us.”  I watched him as he spoke and the more talked the rosier his cheeks were getting.  Is he embarrassed about being out with me?  I shook my head dismissing the thought.  This is Jungkook were talking about.  I had one-sided conversations for almost an entire year just to get him to even think of being friends with me.  If he were actually embarrassed of me, there would be no way he would have invited me out.  It’s probably just the teasing from his friends.
“Oh, so you don’t deny that you’re on a date with Y/N?”  Hoseok leaned onto the table smirking at Jungkook.
“Do you want to get out of here?”  Jungkook’s jaw clenched as he stared at me, ignoring Hoseok’s question.  It was easy to see that he was more on edge the longer we sat with his friends, even though I couldn’t understand why that was the case.  I glanced at Jimin and Hoseok then back at Jungkook, giving him a small nod.  Jungkook abruptly stood up, grabbing my wrist and lightly dragging me out of the cafe in a matter of seconds.  The action startled me, but his hyungs just laughed, bidding us a goodbye.
It was a sort of difficult to keep up with Jungkook’s large strides as he led me down the street.  Perhaps realizing this, Jungkook slowed down before eventually stopping.  His head drooped, his eyes glued to the ground while his warm grip on my wrist loosened but never let go of me.
“Are you okay?”  I asked slightly out of breath.  For whatever reason, what Jimin and Hoseok said had upset him and I didn’t want that to ruin our time together.
“I’m sorry about them.”  Jungkook tightened his grip on my wrist and furrowed his brows with a frown.  He opened his mouth to say something else but quickly shut it shaking his head.
“It’s okay.  Friends can be a pain sometimes.”  I chuckle lightly placing my hand on the one that was closed around my wrist.  “They tease you because they care and whatnot.”  His gaze traveled from the ground to my face and I gave him a small smile.  He seemed to relax a bit with a sigh.
“I regret telling them anything sometimes.”  Jungkook let out a weak laugh and ran his hand through his hair.  “I should have just figured out how to ask you out myself.  I bet the only reason Jimin and Hoseok showed up at the cafe was because they were the ones who suggested I take you there.”  My body stiffened upon hearing this.  Did he actually want this to be a date?  Oh god.  What do I do now?  Jungkook must have noticed because immediately he let go of my wrist and stepped back from me.
“Shit, sorry, I mean, sorry, just ignore what-” He floundered around, trying to explain himself.
“Did you want this to be a date?”  I cut him off.  He paused, rubbing the back of his neck, and avoiding my gaze.
“Yes?  No?  I don’t know.  Isn’t it supposed to be a date?  I mean, I asked you out.  That makes this a date right?”
“Jungkook, no one said it had to be one.  This can just be two friends hanging out on a weekend.”
“So you weren’t expecting this to be a date?”  He finally looked at me; a mixture between surprised and confused washed over his face.
“No, not really.”  Jungkook stared at me for at least a solid minute before throwing his head back in laughter.  Hearing him laugh so hard, causing my heart to race a little as I stared at him with awe.  His laughter died out and he let out a sigh of relief before turning to me, giving me a cute lopsided smile.
“Jimin and Hoseok convinced me that this was definitely supposed to be a date…  This whole time I was panicking over what I was supposed to do on a date for nothing.  God, I feel stupid.  Well, since this isn’t a date… want to go to an arcade?”
“Yeah!”  I nodded excitedly; it had been awhile since I had been to an arcade.
“Cool, let’s go then.  There should be one down this way.”  He laughed and motioned off to his right, starting to walk in that direction.  As we walked, a silence fell over the two of us.  It wasn’t an awkward silence but there was a gnawing feeling, advising me to try and create some sort of conversation.
“You know, even if this was a date we still could have gone to the arcade.”  I spoke up, staring straight while I walked beside him.  I felt his gaze on me before it went back to the path ahead of us.
“Well, I thought that dates were supposed to be romantic.  Arcades don’t particularly give off that vibe.”
“Romance is nice on a date, but so is fun.  You haven’t been on many dates have you?”  I snuck a glance up at his face to see him wince at my question.  I was about to apologize and tell to ignore me when started speaking.
“Contrary to what you may believe, people don’t think of me as the luckiest guy to hang with.”  There was a pause.  Even though he was still looking forward, I could see pain swirling around in his dark brown irises.  He looked over at me and gave me a smile before continuing.
“That and I don’t think anyone could handle all this sexiness.”  Jungkook joked, tilting his head back while running his hand through his hair.  I laughed at his antics, but what he said before and the look in his eyes lingered in the back of my mind.  While we walked, we continued to talk about little things, like school projects, club activities, and things we normally do on the weekends.
Arriving at the arcade I was taken back, there were a lot more people here than I expected.  Jungkook laughed, ushering me over to the counter to get our game cards.  Jungkook quickly talked to the man at the register giving him money for the cards.
“Here.”  Jungkook stopped me and handed me a card.
“Thank you but I have money you know.  I could have bought my own.”  He only shrugged at me with a smug smile.  I rolled my eyes but smiled back at him.  “Alright, let’s go.  Pick the first game.”  He gave me a mischievous grin and weaved through the sea of people.  Jungkook finally stopped at a first person zombie shooter, picking up one of the guns to cockily pose with it.
“You up for a zombie killing spree?”
“You bet your sweet ass I am!”  I laughed, grabbing the other gun and scanned my card to start the game.  Jungkook just stared at me with his brow raised.
“You bet your sweet ass?”
“What?  It’s an expression.”  I shrugged nonchalantly.
“Sure it is.”  He practically purred.
“Just play the game!”  I shoved his shoulder, rolling my eyes smiling as he laughed.
We were entering the final level; the characters in the game were faced with a herd of hundreds of zombies before they could finally reach their destination.  I shot Jungkook a side glance checking if he was ready.  He smirked at me before pulling the cocky pose from earlier, point the gun at the screen.
“This will be like the second coming of Christ, but with death. ‘Cause you’ll be dead for the second time.”  All eyes were on us in a matter of seconds as I erupted into uncontrollable laughter dropping the gun to hold my sides.  Jungkook’s laughter accompanied mine causing more wandering eyes to stare at the two teens losing their shit in front of the zombie game.  Wiping the tears from my eyes, I sigh finally managing to get my breathing back to normal, but the huge smile never left my face.
“Sweet Jesus, Jungkook.  How did you even come up with something like that?”  He just grinned and shrugged as if it was nothing.
“Aw come on.”  Jungkook groaned looking at the game.  Taking up the screen was the words ‘GAME OVER’ in a bloody font.  Amidst our laughing fit the game started and with our minds elsewhere we lost the game.
“We could play again?”  I suggested feeling a tad guilty we lost the game.
“Nah, it’s fine.  Let’s go to a racing game or something.”  I nodded and Jungkook put his gun do before leading me to a new part of the arcade.  When we got there, there was only one more seat available.
“Let’s go to something else.”
“No it’s okay, I’ll just watch.  I’m not good at these kinds of games.”  I smiled.
“Are you sure?”  He asked raising a brow.
“Yeah, I’ll be like, your personal cheerleader.”  Laughing, I lightly pushed him towards the game.  He greeted the guy that was sitting there before they started racing.  Jungkook was fully immersed in the game, so much so that he didn’t even notice me tell him I was going to the restroom.  When I came back, Jungkook was leaning against the chair of the game looking down at his phone.
“How was the game?”  I asked standing across from him.  Jungkook put his phone away and shrugged.
“It was close, but I won.  You ready to lose at air hockey?”  He held up his card between his fingers with a smirk.
“Oh hell no!  You better prepare yourself for the bitter taste of defeat, my friend.”  I laughed, pushing up my sleeves only getting a chuckle out of him as he scanned his card starting the game.
After three games, one point him and one point me, I grasped the victory from the jaws of defeat.  Jungkook was a bit of a sore loser, but he got me back in the rhythm and the basketball games.  We played a few more random games, laughing and enjoying our time.
“So is there anything else you want to do?”  Jungkook asked, staring at the claw machine trying to get an Eevee plushie.
“Hmm, I don’t know we’ve done about everything right?”  I spoke just watching him struggle.  Jungkook shouted at the machine when the plush dropped before it got to the end.  He tried two more times before he finally got the plushie out of the machine, holding it triumphantly.  I smiled at the beaming grin he had; he was somewhat cute with a smile like that.
Scanning over the arcade once more to see if there was anything else that we could enjoy together, my eyes lit up when they fell upon a photo booth.  Excitedly, I reached out, grabbing Jungkook’s hand lightly tugging him while point at the booth.
“Jungkook we have to get some pictures before we go!”  I smiled up at him and as we took a step toward the booth, Jungkook wrenched his hand out of mine.  A dark look settled over his face as he frowned at me with the same look of pain for before.  I stood there stunned with the sudden shift in the atmosphere.  Was it the fact I grabbed his hand?  Or maybe the thought of being in the photo booth?  Whatever it was, I obviously was the one that upset him.
“Oh my god, I am so sorry Jungkook.  I didn’t, I mean, I shouldn’t have done that.  I wasn’t thinking.  That’s not an excuse, I’m sorry.  I should have asked.  I-” Frantically I turned to face him fully and bowed keeping my head down as I apologized.  Jungkook shifted his weight from one foot to the other before clearing his throat.
“It’s okay.  I was just shocked.”  He chuckled awkwardly, causing me to look up at him doubtingly.  He doesn’t sound too sure about that.
“Seriously, I just was just surprised you grabbed my hand.”  Jungkook gave a weak chuckle looking off to the side rubbing his neck as he spoke.  I was still skeptical but asking further into the matter didn’t seem wise.  So I just stood up brushing the unwanted hair out of my face.
“Well, I’d still like to make it up to you for what I did…  How about lunch and ice cream?”  I offered once I noticed his eyes back on me.
“No, its fine, you don’t have to go that far.”
“Oh come on, I’m sure you’re hungry by now and I also want to pay you back for the coffee and paying for my card today.  It’s the least I can do.”  I sighed, rolling my eyes.  I wasn’t really planning on taking no as an answer.  He paid for everything as of right now and if he paid when we go to lunch, I’ll feel more as if I’m a burden than being a friend.
“Y/N, honestly I’m not that hu-” a grumble from his stomach cut him off, “gry…”  A grin spread across my face, and I couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
“Alright, you little liar.  We’re going for lunch.”  Subconsciously I started to reach for his hand to lead him again and I stopped myself.  Should I grab his hand now?  I mean he won’t be shocked but…  I shook my head.  Best not to accidentally do something again.  Without making it to obvious that I was reaching for him, I gripped the strap of my bag.  I gave him one last glance before walking out of the arcade, hoping that he was following me.
We walked in silence for the most part.  I asked him where he wanted to go and he said he didn’t care so I chose a small barbecue placed not that far from the arcade.  After being ushered to a table, we sat down and I let Jungkook take the menu.
“It’s your choice.  You can have as much as you want.”  I spoke up before staring out the window, reflecting on how unusual this day was going for us.  It wasn’t necessarily bad, but it hadn’t been the best either.  I’m just glad that we are spending time together…  We wouldn’t be having these awkward moments if he weren’t at least letting me in, right.  At school, we didn’t talk all that much and it’s mostly about trivial stuff.  Even with texts, we talk about things we find funny or a song that’s interesting; normal friend stuff.  We never really get into anything deep.  Not a lot has changed over the past year, he opened up slightly and we talk a bit more than before.  Giving a mental sigh, I snuck a glance over at him only to find his dark brown eyes staring back into mine.  His eyes were soft and his lips were turned upward in a small but warming smile.  W-why is he looking at me like that?  Quickly, I turned back to look outside warmth rising to my cheeks as I try to slow my heartbeat.  A few seconds later Jungkook cleared his throat gaining my attention.  He held out the menu so I could see as he pointed at it.
“How about we get this beef and this seafood stew?”  He asked me then looked at me to check if I was okay with that and I just nodded.  Jungkook called over a waiter and placed our order.  A few minutes later the waiter brought our meat out and offered to cook it for us but Jungkook turned them down to do it himself.  I quietly sat back listening to the sizzling of the beef as Jungkook took over.  I started thinking to myself.  What if this was an actual date?  Would things be like this?  Jungkook is nice and all and I’d love to get to know more about him but we have soulmates.  I don’t think we’re soulmates, I mean, there should have been something that clicked earlier if we were right?  It feels a bit wrong being out with him like this…  I’m sure my soulmate isn’t doing something like this.  Going out with someone who they might be mildly interested in.  Do they even think of me?  I haven’t felt anything from the connection in a while… Maybe they’re somewhere better…  I wonder if they’re happy…
As my thoughts trailed off, a voice called me out of my daze.
“Y/N are you going to eat?”  Jungkook gave me a concerned look.
“Yeah.”  I shook the rest of my lingering thoughts off grabbing my chopsticks.
“Alright then, let’s eat!”  He gave me a wide smile before stuffing his cheeks with food.
Lunch went by rather quickly.  I honestly didn’t expect it to be as enjoyable either, but once we started eating, Jungkook started cracking jokes and talking about some stuff he did with his hyungs, which eased the weird atmosphere from earlier.  From what Jungkook told me there was a pretty large age variety between himself and the others, but they seemed to be able to make their group work.  The two Jungkook hung out with the most were either Min Yoongi or Kim Taehyung.  Kim Taehyung.  The more Jungkook talked about him, the more butterflies started to pool in my stomach.  He was two years older than we were but according to Jungkook, he didn’t act his age.  Part of me wanted to ask Jungkook more questions about him, but I had a more pressing question to ask.
