Connecting imurangel with uknowme…
The black screen buffers into a dark bedroom. Or what you imagine is a bedroom given the layout; posters haphazardly hung on the walls, a basket of laundry off in the background. All warmed with a soft glow of the lamp resting on the bed side table just in the corner of view.
“Hi,” you smile at the camera, observing the man illuminating your screen.
He’s cute. Much cuter than you expected. The few times you auctioned off a private show like tonight you’d been met with men old enough to be your grandfather or guys who’d never seen the inside of a shower stall. But money was money and you put up with it as long as the deposit cleared your bank account.
User uknowme is already defying your usual expectations. Dimples and a shy grin answer you. His ears burn red already and his lips fail to release any of the words they silently stretch around.
The twitch of your lips is visible in your viewfinder; a genuine smile at his nerves before you throw him a bone. “What's your name, cutie?”
“Ugh… it's Yunho. I’m Yunho.”
You roll the letters around your tongue, “Yunho.”
The speakers echo his sharp inhale at the sound of you tasting his name.
Leaning back on your hands, you press your chest forward and draw attention to the low cut of your top. He specified this outfit, or at least some version of it. “Whatever you’re comfortable in.” Most men want you in some cheap lingerie or a shoddy halloween costume. Easy, simple, straight forward. A nuisance to wear but for what they paid you’d suffer the infernal straps or itchy lace.
But tonight, you stressed more about it than ever before because no one extended such consideration. And that was before you knew who was on the other side of such an innocuous request. The silky white pajama set you settled on at the last minute was perfect.
At least, Yunho seemed to think so.
“I..ugh…like your top?”
“Thanks! It's a little different than what I usually get to wear.”
“Yeah, some of the stuff on stream seems like a pain.”
Puckering your lips in a pout, you reply. “You don’t like it?”
“No! I mean yeah I like it I just— you look good no matter what you have on.”
The bumbling nervousness is delicious, especially from someone it seems so out of place on. For the first time, part of you wishes he was in your room. At the mercy of your teasing touches, where you can watch the blush bloom across his face as you goad him; maybe see if it bleeds down his chest as well.
“You think so?”
“Yeah, you’re beautiful.”
Now you blush. No one had this effect on you. At least not in this space where people eagerly shower you in cheap compliments in hopes you’ll reward them with your body. And yes, Yunho did pay for a private show but something about him screams earnesty; like you’re really that pretty to him and he’d be happy to just talk even if you were covered from head to toe with a paper bag over your head.
And it makes you want to surprise him.
“Yunho,” you revel in the way he squirms just from his own name, “do you wanna see the rest of my outfit?”
Yunho nods, eyes tracing the strap of your tank top skating down the curve of your arm.
Jumping to your feet, you step back in the frame. The satin shorts are just as revealing as any pair of underwear you own. He can glimpse more skin that peaks in and out of view as you give a slow spin; the crease of your thigh, the curve of your ass, and a peak of white lace panties melting against your skin. You can feel Yunho’s eyes take in what you flaunt for him, as if he’s in the room with you and not however many miles away in his own solitude.
“I picked it out for you.” You chime over your shoulder.
The smile on your face is sweet on the surface but sadistic satisfaction runs deep at how so few words fluster him so easily. And his inability to do anything other than provide a choked reply only deepens the ravine.
Cute.
“Do you wanna see the rest of it?”
You're at a proverbial fork in the road. You could take off your top and let Yunho see your bare chest first or you could turn, take off your shorts, and show him the jeweled buttplug he listed as one of his kinks. His reactions make you eager, hungry to see how far you can push him and what you’ll be rewarded with when Yunho reaches his limit.
And the final nail in the coffin, “Sir?”
There's a pause, long enough that you doubt you read the questionnaire right. But Yunho brings himself back up to speed in no time.
Leaning forward, his entire demeanor changes. The tips of his ears still burn red but his face morphs into a controlled impassivity. If you examine him close up, you're sure you’d see the remaining anxiety linger just below the surface. Laying in wait to take over at the first misstep. But you aren’t about to let that happen when you’re just starting to get a taste of what hides beneath such a cute face.
“Show me, pretty girl.”

Love love LOVE the asexual drabbles and headcannons! Could you do one with Gojo & black asexual woman? Like she teases him ‘i’ll only mess around if you give me a dollar’ as a snarky joke and he’s like ‘i’m rich baby hell yes’ and keeps the joke running🤭 I know i’ll enjoy anything you write! Thank you in advance!
OMG, thank you im glad you love them because i actually love writing them.
Tumblr media
• You met him at the mall…the prada store to be exact, you weren’t necessarily shopping more so just debating on a purse or a pair of boots.
•You were a stylist in japan and your clients loved your American style although they had way cooler clothes. Safe to say business was flourishing.
•Yet here you are trying not to blow through money too fast so you were Legit window shopping.
.•The last thing you expect is a white haired man to stand next to you and startle you, you assume he’s going to say something about your hair as most people had done i mean you were a black person in japan.
• He’s holding a few bags and a cup you initially assume he’s blind because of the blindfold but when he begins to talk about the shoe, your slightly confused but you have decorum so you don’t say anything.
• “I’ve had my eye on the bag for a few weeks but they just dropped the new boots so I’m debating” you say and what’s $950 To any normal person its like a penny to him.
• “How about i buy both and you wear them on our first date” he says smoothly leaning up against the glass window and you laugh at first until you realize hes dead serious. You weren’t use to men here flirting with you and it makes you nervous.
• “Usually people start off with their names” you tell him before introducing yourself as you hold out your hand which he places a kiss on.
• “Gojo Satoru” lifting his blindfold revealing the brightest blue eyes you’ve ever seen
• You also notice he has a tag hanging off his shirt and it cost $1500.
• You decline him buying the stuff for you but accept his offer for a date. What’s the worst that could happen?
• He doesn’t know what he’s expecting when he sees you, he thought you were already gorgeous at the mall but looking at you right now it makes something… stir.
• He told you to dress cute but casual he was taking you sight seeing— he never mentioned it would be in a helicopter over the city.
• It’s obvious this man has money to blow and you contemplate looking him up to figure out just who he is.
• He also brings the shoes and bag as a gift, he couldn’t resist! Plus he likes loves the way your face initially lights up before trying to be humble and give it back.
• He lies and tells you its rude to not accept gifts.
• “Gojo i cant accept this without you knowing all about me…” you speak pouting knowing the good time was coming to an end and while the shoes and bag looked perfect you had to confess.
• “Its the wrong size?” He asked looking at your foot and back at the box on the table.
•“What? No strangely enough you got the right size…im asexual”
•“…thats… cool. I can write with both hands too”
“Gojo thats ambidextrous! Asexual means—“
• “Im just kidding sweetheart, of course i know what it means”
•He definitely did not and googled it under the table.
• You know the meme “we hung out once and weve been together ever since” that was you two.
• The next few weeks he finds time to either take you to breakfast, lunch or dinner and on days hes completely free he’ll take you on some one of a kind date experience.
• Hes a kid at heart so when you take him to a virtual reality place and literally fight to pay, you have to distract him by kissing him and biting gently on his lower lip.
•He loved it nobodys every paid for anything for him and the fact that you planned the date, paid and had a great experience hes lovestruck.
• He ended up paying since he put a hole in the wall fighting demons in the game mentioning something about it feeling to real.
•Its when 3 of his students run into you two and their shocked he’s not harassing you and actually enjoying voluntarily spending time with him, mainly because he has no idea who you are.
• Nobara follows all of your socials loving your day in the life videos, style advice videos even when you have your celebrity clients in the videos.
•Its megumi knowing who you are and thinking you’re cool that seals the deal for him.
•Gojo loves your cooking so the day you pack him leftovers with a cute smiley face and a note hes literally on the desk kicking his feet in the air… weirding out his students. This was next level even for him.
•They beg to bring you around loving seeing him happy with you.
•Its a collective though and nobara who wants to enjoy regular teen things breaks the ice officially by asking
“Take this dollar or have sex with Gojo-sensei?”
“Give me the dollar” at the same time he shouts her name. Hes also taken aback cause what do you mean youre going to take the dollar.
“No babe i dont think you heard the question take a dollar or—“
“Give me the dollar”
•For the rest of the day Gojo chooses to be dramatic from the grocery store to the hair supply store where guess whos short $1 of buying hair supplies. You turn to him seeing hes fascinated with the hair clips and different color edge controls.
•“Hey sweetheart i think you should get all of these” he suggest ready to pick them all up waiting on your command.
•“Hey babe im short” you tell him and he scoffs not paying you any mind looking at the conditioners catagorized by hair type.
“I knew that when i first seen you… what’s your hair type? Does 4b mean 4 everyone? Like your down for interracial dating… how do they know that by hair type? Like hard wig soft life?” He rambles and you almost lose it.
“No im short $1” and he sends you the most devious smirk as he holds open his wallet repeating the question Nobara asked.
“Give me the dollar” you smirk back watching his smile be taken over by a glare as he gives the cashier his card to pay for everything  instead.
“Dont give me that look baby, im rich now come on i ordered a package for you” he loves to buy you things he jokingly ask siri how much the world cost one time.
“Satoru it better not be another pair of prada shoes” you scold as he carries the bags, his silence tells you everything you need to know though.
“Babe I’m running out of space to put all the stuff you bought me, please” you pout loving that this was a problem in your relationship and not anything else.
“I have enough space… You can live with me instead”

*slaps table* hi. This is the post where I talk about, yet again, why Kishi is an idiot when it comes to the implications of his own worldbuilding. Point 1. being that Kishi’s insistence that peacetime is bad for shinobi business is hot garbage and point 2. being the implications of ANBU being Scary even to other shinobi. Because the show makes it clear that ANBU are supposed to be the Scary Ones, the Dark Ones who do messed up stuff. Many fics have already talked about this, but not *too* many I've seen actually explore the implications of what that actually MEANS when put in the context of a society who thinks it's A-okay to give a knives and bombs to literal kids and shoo them off to fight things. Buckle up I’m going to flex my logic center and start talking economics even tho I never studied economics outside casual worldbuilding interest.
Okay to start off with, I’m need to talk about Not Anbu for a hot minute and describe some of the few things we *do* know about Kishi’s “worldbuilding” of the shinobi villages and their history.
1. Literally everyone but Madara the Madman agrees that the villages are a Good Thing that happened, even the missing ninja never breathe a word about wanting to go back to the Warring States Era where everyone was in clans. The implications of this could honestly be it’s own entire rant but I will restrain myself and focus on the topic at hand for now.
2. Konoha and every village barring the trash fire that is pre-Boruto Kiri have a thriving enough economy to be literal *cities* of very decent size and decent quality of life, which the civilians have a major hand in I’m sure, but tellingly the shinobi *make enough income to get by* and seem to do so very easily. I will probably come back to this as I go on.
3. Ninja villages not only have a wide array of mission ranks (which I will also come back to) but they are the ones who set the prices for individual missions, not the employers. This is seen in the infamous Wave mission when the bridge builder fellow lied about the danger of the mission because he *could not afford to pay for a mission above a C-rank*, which I remind you is the second lowest mission ranking in the system.
Alright with those in mind I’m gonna talk about the “peacetime is bad for shinobi” garbage because that does actually relate directly to the worldbuilding implications of ANBU. Just. Just bear with me here and forgive me if this kinda rambles in multiple directions, talking about anything with Kishi makes my braincells run for the hills on a good day.
JUMPING IN WITH THE PEACETIME THING. This is stupid. This is one of the stupidest things to come out of Kishi’s mouth in my opinion barring the existence of the cannibal space aliens. Why? Because despite Kishi’s love of explosions and giant flashy fights shinobi are supposed. To be. STEALTHY. And the vast majority of them now live in villages, which means they need steady income.
Post the unification of the clans into villages, wars actually became too big and messy to be profitable because it’s during peacetime that people have money to spend on hiring ninja. And we see them spend it on incredibly frivolous things when it comes to shinobi. Just look at all the D-ranks we see or are referenced in the shows. Babysitting, pet retrieval, fence painting, carrying shopping bags for civilian ladies, house cleaning, the list goes on. And these pay well enough, are priced high enough by the village, that Might Dai, a single parent, was able to feed, shelter, and clothe both himself and an extremely energetic child while also having time to train himself and his son and walk Gai to and from school. And the price tag for missions only goes up from there. Higher ranked missions pay more according to risk, but peacetime is when people will be able to afford those kinds of missions. *Wartime*, as war is defined in the show post-village creation, are giant, messy affairs where a lot of manpower goes to maintaining front lines and countering enemy action, leaving far *less* manpower and time to take on these kinds of missions, and with the mass destruction of land and resources that these wars cause, people will have less money to throw at having the magic ninja men do things like escort caravans, deal with petty crime, retrieve stolen items, etc. And those examples are just C-rank/B-rank examples. Most wartime missions that we see in the show are actually missions assigned by the village itself, not from an outside client, which means the pay is coming from the Village coffers and not an external source, which can get messy very quickly if they do not have the manpower to take enough missions from outside clients to refill those coffers. Remember that I’m coming back to it later.
Wartime, for village ninja, is loud and messy and ugly. *Peacetime* on the other hand, is the playground of the rich, the powerful, and the *subtle*. Peacetime is when nobles pay top dollar to *flaunt* that they can afford to hire a ninja or three to escort them around in broad daylight regardless of any enemies they’ve made. Peacetime is when nobles have the money to pay for ninja to go in and spy on rivals or steal secrets. Peacetime is when the Daimyo and other elites hire shinobi to escort luxury goods at high risk of theft, to deal with underground human or drug trafficking that is inconveniencing them, or to spy on their neighboring lands for information that will become useful next time they meet up to flex on each other in a “you don’t want to make trouble with me I have and know X”.
More importantly, peacetime is when the *lower* classes can afford to pay for the magic ninja as well. If D-ranks are enough to support a single parent and his child, then C and B ranks are actually going to be the *backbone* of a ninja village’s economy, not the A or S ranks. C and B ranks are going to be the highest pay for the lowest risk, and those will predominantly come from the merchant and working class who have enough spare cash to have someone deal with the wild animals harming their livestock, take out budding trafficking rings and bandit gangs or escort people and goods.
     I don’t think I’m emphasizing this one enough. Look at a map of the Elemental Nations, look at the size of those countries. Now we don’t get a lot of info on cities in those countries (because KISHI) but there are bound to be plenty of villages, towns, and cities dotting those countries, and all of them are going to be connected in some way to each other via trade routes and highways. You’re going to have Konoha’s own supply lines and the trade deals they have with their own merchant families bargaining for preferential treatment in exchange for setting up shop in a ninja village on top of all the other merchants from all over the Land of Fire who, during peacetime, have both money and incentive to hire the fire-chucking magic people to ensure *all* of their goods arrive *on time, every time*.
You’re going to have merchants who have supply lines through multiple countries. Glass products from the Land of Wind. Inks, fine paper, and flavored teas from Land of Fire. Fish, oyster, and pearl products from the coast (which is especially high risk in areas near the disaster fire that is Kiri). Each and every country is going to have luxury products or famous higher-quality raw materials (*points at Iwa and their rock obsession, points at every product made out of high quality stone, silver, gold, or iron ore*) that the other countries are all going to want, and consequently you will have merchants that are going to be willing to pay top dollar to ensure those products get where they are meant to go and do so undamaged and in a timely fashion despite bad roads/bad weather/bandits/rogue shinobi hired by a competitor/wild animals/freak acts of the local kami because you forgot to pay tribute to their shrine last week.
The technology of pre-Boruto era is also still stuck in the *horse and wagon* stage, meaning you have caravans of this stuff moving on very strict, long term schedules, which means these are jobs that the village can charge per day or week on the road on top of the base price estimated from the level of risk to the shinobi. You have merchants who are going to give preferential treatment to the village of their home nation if they can, both because you Don’t Insult The Local Fire Breathers/Rock Gougers/Storm Summoners/Etc but also because the villages themselves likely offer discounts for natives of their country, or even contracts that are essentially subscription deals for those who have multiple caravans going out at the same time, multiple times in a year. A “pay this much up front and we will ensure that several shinobi are always on standby to guard one of your caravans” kinda deal. It’s been implied multiple times in the shows that the majority of any shinobi village’s workforce are chuunin and that jounin’s are elite, and C/B-ranks are literally stated in the wiki to be usually given to teams of Chuunin or sometimes two genin teams and their jounin pairing up for a joint operation. Chuunin are going to make their careers on guarding caravans, dealing with bandits, clearing road hazards, etc. If Chuunin are the majority of your workforce, then missions that chuunin can take are going to be, by necessity, the largest cashflow coming into your village.
If a war between two or more countries is happening, all of that gets heavily restricted because of the risk of infiltration, heavily impeded from road destruction and wartime front lines, or straight up *shut down* from lack of money and manpower to take those missions.
Can you see what I’m getting at now when I say Kishi’s peacetime line is stupid.
And here comes another fun aspect of this. Because where the money flows, so does the cultural norms. Now a lot of fics I’ve seen emphasize the child soldier thing and also how D-ranks are very likely a way to acclimate the genin to mission work while also training civilians to see ninja as Friendly Safe Workers who happen to have magic powers and knives. But the thing is, all of that work on acclimating the civilians to view their local shinobi as Safe To Hire is going to go out the window if you remind them too often that these people are literal killers for hire. Merchants are not going to want to hire Infamous Killers because that says to their customers and their potential business partners that they themselves are shady and possibly approve of murder to get their way. Poking at D-ranks briefly, farmers aren’t going to want to hire potentially unhinged murderers to till their fields, and nobody is going to want to hire even the genin to *babysit their kids*.
So.
In order to attract reliable patronage from these low risk, well paying areas, the ninja villages had to *alter their public perception*. Assassination missions, kidnapping missions, extortion missions, all of those over time became short-term gain/long-term loss for the village. So they took them on less and less, and those kinds of missions became increasingly *socially unacceptable* even to the shinobi, because if the village doesn’t approve of it, it’s not a good thing. What assassination/sabotage missions we do see or hear referenced in canon are always, iirc, targeting someone that can the ninja can safely point at and say “this is a bad guy”. High ranking rogue shinobi from other villages or crime lords or despotic warlords being I think the majority (if not the entirety) of the few examples canon gives us. Those are people that, when civilians hear about them being assassinated, the civilians are going to say “good riddance” rather than “oh no!”. And if those missions are the only ones that the common shinobi hear about themselves or take on, then that’s what they are going to associate with those types of missions. A high risk job that is nonetheless seen as Morally Right, even if their moral compass hinges mostly on who is the friend or enemy of their home village.
I could also get into how this has really interesting implications for what the Warring State Era shinobi economics were like and how Hashirama and Madara making Konoha was basically inventing the concept of unionizing but I’m not going to side track to that because finally, FINALLY, we get to the ANBU Are Scary Thing.
Because this. This whole thing about how peacetime is actually where ninja villages make their bread and butter and how the push-pull of being Socially Acceptable for Money turning into Actual Moral Perception is where ANBU’s identity as the Scary Guys comes into play.
Now we don’t know when ANBU was actually founded in Konoha or any other village, but I’m going to ballpark and say it was *after* the First War because of a few key things we know about ANBU.
1. ANBU are Scary.
2. ANBU are known to specifically hunt other ninja (specifically Kiri has a Hunter-nin branch of ANBU but logically every village would have this).
3. ANBU work is extremely psychologically and physically grueling to their members and has a high fatality rate.
4. Whatever ANBU does is considered messed up even by ninja standards. An example that comes to mind is a filler flashback where Gai ends up running into Kakashi on an ANBU mission where Kakashi is basically putting down enemy ninja that are defeated and attempting to surrender and Gai is visibly distressed by this.
The First Shinobi World War likely rocked the Elemental Nations as badly or *worse* than WWI did for the real world, because this was the first time “war” was not defined as two or three noble lords throwing peasants with spears or the occasional ninja at each other or two or three shinobi clans having a protracted blood feud that they could only initiate when they weren’t busy trying to feed their own families. Assuming Konoha has the average number of shinobi clans that can be found in a shinobi village, that means we had somewhere upward of 55 clans from various countries throwing everything they had at each other on open battlefields, destroying large amounts of landscape, and causing shinobi and civilian casualties on a mass scale that even the most fire happy Uchiha could not have achieved on their worst day. This was also after Jinchuuriki became a thing, so this war was the first demonstration of what it’s like to essentially duct tape a nuke to an emotionally volatile child soldier and see what happens when you throw two or more of them into a battlefield.
The economy of the villages and their respective nations would have been in chaos after the war. Entire towns, roads, and bridges are straight up gone, chunks of landscape for miles around have been drastically rewritten, the death toll is high and the missing persons list is even higher and in the wake of this you’re going to have *every* would-be warlord and their grandfather getting uppity and trying to stake a claim on what they can of the wreckage. This includes Rogue Shinobi, likely the first real appearance of Rogue Shinobi in ninja history, at least on this scale. Lots of shinobi are going to be disillusioned from the war, exhausted, more than a few are mentally broken from the traumas, and all the ninja who have no moral compasses and dreams of power are looking at this and deciding “hey, now is a great time to become a warlord”. On top of all this, since most of the wartime missions were assigned by the villages themselves and not an outside client (with *very minimal* cash flow coming from the Daimyo himself since presumably the war was partially his idea, but even the royal coffers are not enough to run a military city the size of Konoha kthanks), the village coffers are likely hanging out somewhere between “Naruto’s childhood allowance” and “I can offer you lint”.
Obviously, these things need to be taken care of pronto, and with the villages scrambling to have the money to rebuild, the Kage in charge are going to be much more willing to take on dirty missions like assassinations, extortion, blackmail, *whatever* just to refill the village coffers. But. The ninja villages still need to keep their social acceptability in order to start getting their C and B ranks back, especially after the war opened everyone’s eyes to how destructive shinobi can really be in large numbers. They cannot afford to be seen killing left and right and the Rogue ninja are a huge stain on their village’s reputation, but openly advertising that “hey, if anyone leaves the village we’ll behead them” really isn’t going to do any favors for keeping the shinobi who are in the same mental space Tsunade was when she got fed up and left Konoha altogether.
And this, I think, is what gave rise to the existence of ANBU. The Kages picking their remaining highly skilled and most loyal followers, putting them in masks so that they cannot be easily identified by civilians, and sent out to quietly complete these high level, socially unacceptable missions. They were sent out to deal with Rogue shinobi and make them disappear without advertising to all the other traumatized village shinobi that their village is “serve or die” rather than the more patriotic “we fight for our home” that they were raised with. They were sent out to perform civilian assassinations, extortion, whatever they were offered in order to shore up the village’s shaky economy of the time and enable the Kage to pay their soldiers.
Then, after the economy stabilized, the ANBU just kinda … never left. Because by then the respective Kage had realized that being able to take on these kinds of missions with high pay and no loss of social acceptability was useful, and in the wake of the First War with everyone being simultaneously paranoid of their neighboring country but also on eggshells to not start another war, the anonymity of ANBU became a convenient way to keep an eye on each other and subtly attempt to sabotage the other when it looked like they were getting too powerful. The next two Great Shinobi Wars only solidified ANBU’s role in the hidden villages for those very same reasons, even though I would argue that they were ultimately a Bad Idea because they put too much power in the hands of the Kage without their village clans being able to hold them responsible, and that’s how we get stuff like Danzo™ and the crimes committed by Danzo™ and the Sandaime against the Uchiha. The existence of ANBU and the ability to “anonymously” jab at each other also just encouraged the animosity between the Great Shinobi Villages, and allowed warmongers (Danzo™) to ensure that an actual peace never fully settled in until the 4th Shinobi War happened.
And the peace post the 4th war, by the way, SHOULD have been a huge boom in the popularity and use of shinobi rather than the detriment that the Boruto manga/anime insists on for like- all the reasons stated in the economics part of this rant as well as the rise of CORPORATIONS that would happily pay a lot for shinobi in a host of different capacities and also people paying for shinobi to pretty please come help rebuild our destroyed homes and farmland with your fancy ninja powers.
It’s also canon that several shinobi retired and went into other professions in the wake of this peace and alliance, such as *acting*, which opens up an entire potential slew of missions geared specifically toward movie producers using their new technologies and their bigger budgets to hire shinobi as stuff like stunt doubles, live special effects artists (need to rehearse but the set isn’t done yet? No problem!! Just hire someone with *genjutsu* to make your actors the ultimate set/stage), *makeup artists* (hey those infiltration skills come in handy in a lot of ways), and more. And that’s just one “modern” profession off the top of my head that would adore having Magic Ninja People available for hire.
I’m sure I’m missing a ton of potential peace time jobs and economic implications because again, I only research this stuff in relation to worldbuilding fictional places. But there we go, I have just gone a 3k rant about ninja economics in order to explain why ANBU are Scary. I hope ya’ll enjoyed.
A side note I couldn’t find a good spot for in the actual rant but another factor in the shinobi villages having to change their behavior and seem Socially Acceptable is because of the rise of civilian-born shinobi in their genin/chuunin ranks. Because there’s no way a civilian family is going to *want* their child to become a murderous psychopath. A competent, magic wielding defender of your merchant uncle’s caravans on the other hand…
Other rants I need to do at some point when my braincells aren’t mush are:
1. My personal HCs on Konoha’s orphanage/foster system (aka Hi, Let Me Give You More Reasons To Hate Sarutobi Hiruzen)
2. Ninja Economics Two: Warring States Boogaloo (Edit: now available here!)
3. Why Cannibal Space Ninjas Are The Stupidest Idea of Multiple Stupid Options
4. Boruto Ninja Cults: What Kishi Could’ve Done Instead of the Garbage We Got
5. Genin Corps (Aka Reasons Kishi Could’ve Given for Why No One Thought Kabuto Was Suspicious But Didn’t. Aka Ninja Economics 3 Babyyyyyy)

So watcher keeps their patreon and the supporters over there have to pay twice if they want to see everything? Or will the patreon content be available on the streamer as well? This is confusing.
So my understanding of the situation the Patrons are in right now is that the ONLY benefit to continuing to pay for the patreon subscription is that they still get access to Watcher Podcasts.
So yes, the Patrons have to pay "double", essentially. Probably what's going to happen is that a lot of people on the patreon cancel their subscription. It simply isn't worth it anymore.
And as for whether the exclusive content on the patreon is moving to the streamer, I don't think so. I scanned the website for exactly this when I looked at it. I'm pretty sure if they were moving the patreon stuff over there, then there would be more Watcher Weekly and behind the scenes at Watcher videos on the streamer.
I agree it's very confusing. Seeing posts from patrons on here and then also finding some patrons in the comments section of the YouTube video, it sounds like the patrons are just as upset as we are. Like... the whole point of the patreon was to help fund them because we liked THEM as creators and didn't want them behind a paywall. And so if I had been a patron, this decision would feel even more like a betrayal because Watcher is simply saying they weren't good enough.
Like I genuinely don't know how to emphasize that those 12,122 people (last I checked) that subscribed to be patrons were doing that so that the 3 Million people who were subscribed to the free YouTube channel wouldn't have to.
Usually when a creator makes a patreon, the understanding is that the content Simply Would Not Exist without them. There are plenty of YouTubers and other creators who rely on their patrons to make the content worth the time and resources to make, and if the patrons disappeared then the creations would simply stop happening, the creator would have to find a new project or potentially a new job. It's essentially the same relationship you have between a commissioner and a creator. Patrons give the money for the creator to create what they make best.
But this decision from Watcher makes it feel like they're looking at their Entire Audience this way. They see the difference between 12k patrons and 3M subscribers on YouTube, and they feel that if they forced those 3M to pay, then they could lose the ads and do what they want with production.
But those 12k patrons were there by grace. With kindness. Those 3M subscribers were there because they were welcomed with love, not because they could obviously afford to be a patron and they were just chosing not to be. (Because apparently anyone and everyone can afford this, right?) The 3M subscribers are not a funding resource to be mined. They weren't an untapped fountain that was holding back the water.
We loved them. We thought we were respected for just being there. It's not even that we feel entitled to free content, it's that if Buzzfeed had been behind a paywall, most of us never would have heard of these guys. And with this move being primarily about production quality, it implies that things of "quality" must be behind a super expensive paywall. And that simply isn't true.
I've even already seen some YouTubers discussing this move, saying they have more than 25 employees and they manage to pay them. YouTubers who know how to do the math on how much money each Watcher video would make, and they they should be turning a profit with each episode. The quality should be possible without betraying the fans this way.
But I've already talked a lot here, and this is waaaaay beyond the question that I was asked lol. It's just that while the average viewer of Watcher is disappointed and upset about this, the patrons already had money in this, and they're in such a strange place now.

Stop Stealing from Authors
As an author, please please PLEASE do not download 'free' ebooks or listen to 'free audiobooks' on YouTube etc.
Books take work to research and write, and author advances are already incredibly low, without us having to PAY THEM BACK to the publisher because the book isn't earning enough. Authors are already earning far far below the minimum wage per hour of work we put in.
Many ebooks are incredibly cheap already and have regular price drops down to 99p/$0.99, and are FREE using a library app.
Audiobooks likewise can be accessed digitally for FREE via the library.
Authors in countries like my own receive a small amount of money when you access our content via the library. Money which means we can keep writing books. Using the library also gives them visitor numbers and incentivises funding, preventing library closures.
Funding piracy makes the already very hard job of writing as a career even harder and endangers library resources.
'Well then maybe you should get a real job' I have a job, and that job is being an author. It is very entitled to tell authors that we need to essentially have a full time job AND still produce content for you to enjoy for free, at a speed/quality which makes writing also a fulltime job.
As a fulltime author I wrote 3 novels last year, each with 4-5 rounds of edits at different stages in the process. I also edited the two books I wrote the previous year during that time. Hundreds of hours of work. And I have since seen piracy websites making money off of that work.
Saying that piracy 'expands the reach of our books' is as insulting as being 'paid in exposure'. If you want something that someone made, you have to pay them for it. It is not doing someone a favour, to steal from them. And let's be real - how many people are you telling about each book you steal? Are you recommending the piracy site to others in the same breath? Are you just rating on goodreads and counting that as 'payment' for what you stole?
If you want to get a free book and 'expand the reach' - sign up to Netgalley and get free books in exchange for posting reviews.
'But then I can't read all the books I want to read' - Why should you get everything you want? Genuine question. I don't have all the make-up I want, or all the decor I want, but I'm not shoving stuff in my pockets because it's not fair that I don't get to have everything my magpie brain desires. You don't have enough time in your life to read every book anyway. You have to choose.
I bet you also have more than one unread book in your possession, right now. Probably a TBR pile. Why do you need another one for free, when you have books to read? And if you don't want to read those books, you can access every book, via the library.
Authors would even prefer that you buy our books second hand, because at least that 1. is good for the environment as it keeps books out of landfill and 2. benefits charity if you purchase for a charity bookshop/ doesn't benefit pirates. And 3. unlike a stolen ebook, you can donate it again and it will be visible on a shop shelf, attracting new readers.
'You should write because you love it, not for money' I do write because I love it, that's why I spent years learning my craft and working to get published. So I could do this as a job. I even write fanfic on the side as a hobby, and that is VERY different to writing publishable novels for my editor - I get to do all the fun stuff with none of the WORK that my writing job requires.
I don't love being told what setting/theme is 'hot right now' and needs to be in my next novel. Or re-reading my book for the 15th time to look for typos, or spending 4-5 hours every morning writing to meet a crunch deadline and the rest of the day brainstorming the new idea which is due in a week, answering emails and editing. It's my job, not a hobby, and it's not all fun, all the time. No one page edits for the LOVE of it.
'If buying isn't owning, then piracy isn't stealing' - Unlike films/tv, books are still available as physical media you can own forever. They're also less likely to vanish from your ereader because they aren't licenced like a tv show.
'I don't want to support a horrible person but I still want the book' - so...you agree that pirating does nothing for the author? Good. Because that 'spreading awareness stuff' we already covered, is bullshit. But if they're so terrible...why do you want to read something that was invented in their brain, and is likely full of their terrible values/dog whistles? Why not find new authors to support instead of hate reading/continuing to absorb content from people you fundamentally dislike?
Lastly, the argument I routinely see is that 'it's just the same as lending a copy to a friend'. It is not. Firstly because you're putting money into the pockets of those who stole our work, via ad-rev on their sites, whereas lending a book to a friend doesn't result in you making money off of someone else's work. But also, lending the book to ONE person is not the same as making it available to EVERYONE. I just filed a copyright takedown on one of my new books which already had 200+ hits. Unless you plan to lend a physical book to 200+ people, you will not do that same amount of damage as piracy.

Hi! Saw your post about commissioners using AI as a skeevy way to get cheap fully-rendered art from artists (thank you for spreading the info btw! Deeply concerning the ways these AI programs are being used to make an already difficult field of work even harder 🥲).
But it also got me thinking a bit about TOS's and pricing your work, particularly commercial work... I'm in the process of preparing to open up for commissions for the first time in years myself, and was wondering if you had any advice/resources for putting together a professional looking TOS and figuring out how to handle commercial licensing? I know this stuff tends to be super regional, but it's so hard to find consistent information online on the topics 😞
I can only tell you how I handle it. :) For normal commissions, do feel free to copy whichever part of my TOS you think will work for you from my private commission info. If you're not Swiss, the last line on the page won't be usable.
A lot of doing art and illustration commissions is trial and error. I know it was for me. Tons of mistakes and hopefully not repeating them.
For pricing, a friend told me two things that stuck with me and helped deciding on prices since then.
First thing she told me is that exclusive rights for a simple caricature for a newspaper go for USD 800.- and up. Mind ya, she said that YEARS ago. And prices change. But if a simple black and white doodle goes for USD 800.-, don't sell exclusive rights to your full colour A4+ artwork for less.
If in doubt, don't sell your exclusive rights at all. Most clients don't need them and if someone tells you they will give you USD 25.- and a voucher for -10% off their own product for it, tell them to fuck off.
People will try. And you will learn to say no.
The second important pricing tip I got from said friend: decide on a price that makes it easy for you to let go. If you regret having sold it, the price was not high enough.
Most companies have their own contracts and their own price lists. It helps if you are able to adjust your work to their budget and deadline.
Read the contracts carefully, don't skim anything, only sign them when you understand them. Especially US-contracts have a lot of complicated looking clauses in them, like the Indemnification clause. If they tell you that a clause is just there and you don't need to understand it, you can sign the contract as it is: run.
Most clients won't actually need or even want exclusive rights, simple print licenses will be enough for them. A rough over-the-thumb minimum pay would be around CHF 200.- to 250.- per work day.
I will add a third point here:
If you really want something to exist and be a part of it, then do it. Have fun. We mostly regret the things we never tried and never did. And if you only do things for the money and don't get paid, it leaves you with nothing (my thanks to Neil Gaiman and his commencement speech "Make Good Art").
Some of my most amazing commissions were orders from people who couldn't pay a lot, but were awesome individuals with fantastic ideas. And I don't regret a second of the work I put into those commissions. But THAT is your decision. And purely yours. Don't let people tell you what to be exited about.
Maybe the thing you will be exited about is a kid that wants to pay you three shiny rocks for a drawing of their super hero princess cat wizard.
And you will make it the fucking best super hero princess cat wizard for one of the rocks, because you don't want the kid to have no shiny rocks anymore~. <3

I know this isn’t reddit but I need to do a little AITA (Am I the *sshole)
So I’m a minor. I live in a house paid by my parents. All my stuff is paid by my parents, but I am old enough to work and I make my own money. My mom often borrows money from me. Most of the time she pays it back with some added bonus money. (Most of the time meaning 7 times out of 10. The other 3 times she forgets she owed me anything and doesn’t believe me when I try to explain she does). She makes a lot of poor financial decisions and is often completely broke so relies on me to get things for her sometimes.
It’s going to be my dad’s birthday soon. And she already booked a hotel for the two of them. Only problem is they spent all their money and can’t pay for dinner or gifts or alcohol or anything like that. My mom has been asking me for my money. I already gave her some but she needs more. And the lower my bank account goes the more incredibly anxious I get. Idk why but when I get past $100 I get a horrible awful nauseating feeling that doesn’t go away till I get paid. Lower it gets worse the feeling is. It’s probably a neurodivergent thing.
She’s been really persistent. And it’s all come to a head when we got into a fight. She called me several names (mostly things like stingy b*tch) and told me to give her my phone since ‘she pays for it and I won’t share any money with her.’ I don’t think that’s fair. I’ve tried explaining why I can’t give her any more and she says it’s ridiculous and she’d give me money no matter what if I ever asked for it. Which is probably true. I feel terrible. Is it fair of me to withhold money? She gives me everything I want. Plans big trips. Pays for all my stuff. I don’t pay rent yet. All that stuff.
I understand I owe her. But she’s taking things too far by taking my stuff and calling me names. She’s very angry and I just want to know what people think about this situation. I’ve offered to start paying my own phone bill (even though technically she’s supposed to pay for it since one time she accumulated like $1,000 worth of debt to me and we agreed she could pay it off by paying for my phone bill) but she doesn’t want to hear it. Now she’s saying stuff like she ‘doesn’t even want the money. She just want’s my phone since it’s hers and she pays for it.’
Am I in the wrong? Should I try to make up and apologize and just give her the rest of what I’ve got? My dad is taking my side and is saying what she’s doing is unfair. But she’s also angry at him and is saying the same stuff to him too. And two wrongs don’t make a right? Idk. Help.

“Alright kids, in we go!” I called as I led the group of teenagers into the Mint. Originally, I hadn’t intended on being a chaperone for our school’s field trip, however I had been convinced at the last minute by one of my co-workers, so here I am. Luckily, I didn’t have to bother teaching them anything, since the school had booked some kind of tour.
I was currently standing behind the group, making sure that no one wandered off before the tour ended. I wasn’t at all interested in the tour, but their actual teacher seemed to be, so I wasn’t that bothered about paying attention. Sometimes I wonder whether tours like this are educational if no one’s really listening.
~~~
“Anne, don’t wander off please” I called as I spotted our newest student walking away from the group, in a completely different direction.
“Just going to the bathroom” She answered when she actually turned to look at me. She looked a little embarrassed that she got caught, and I almost laughed at the look on her face. I had a feeling that she didn’t really need to go, but I wasn’t about to stop her. As long as we know where she is, then there isn’t really a problem.
“Alright. We’ll all be in the main area, meet us there when you’re ready” I said, and she nodded in agreement before finally walking off to find the nearest bathroom. I felt a little unsure of letting her go alone, but it would be weird if I offered to go with her. Hopefully she’ll find us easy enough…
~~~
Our group was now looking at old photos of money, and what the mint used to look like. The kids seemed a lot more interested in taking photos than paying attention to whatever was being said, and I had to agree with them. At least I’m being paid to be here.
Though, as everyone gathered around the boards full of photos, the sound of gunshots interrupted our peace. Now, I’m not saying that any amount of gunshots is normal, but this was too many. Way too many. The lights flickered as we all began to panic about what was going on, and some of the students began to run. Those of us who didn’t ended up getting cornered by some guys in white masks that were holding guns. Now, this could be a reason why I didn’t want to come on this field trip, but who was I to know our lives would be at risk.
~~~
Soon enough, we were all gathered up and blindfolded, which I didn’t like at all. Do what you want with me, but I wanna be able to see.
We were all put into lines, and in the moments of panic, I felt one of the students beside me grab my hand. I wasn’t about to tell them off, since I kind of needed a hand to hold right now too. So, I kept their hand in mine as we waited for something to happen.
I don’t know how long we stood there for, but it felt like an eternity. At some point we heard a lot of shuffling, or I suppose you could call it struggling. They must have found Anne…At least she’s safe, and alive.
“Hello everyone, I’m the one in charge here” Someone eventually spoke up, and the room seemed even more tense at the sound of the guy's voice. “I apologise for the inconvenience, but you’re now our hostages” He continued, and everyone seemed to cower at the idea of being kept captive by these people. I didn’t. If they wanted to kill us, they could have already done so. There’s no real reason to be scared, at least…Not yet. Who knows what they’ll come up with while we’re trapped in here.
The guy started speaking about obeying rules, which I had no problem with. Though, the idea that they couldn’t hurt us for whatever reason made me want to mess with them. Sure, I might get shot, but I wanna have some fun before I die.
They then made us give up all of our stuff, which I wasn’t too pleased with, but I complied nonetheless. I didn’t really have much, just my phone and a bunch of pens in case some of the kids needed one. I don’t know what they’re gonna do with our stuff, so if anything I’m glad that I hadn’t brought anything else. Though, as we all dumped our stuff into the bins that were presented to us, a phone rang from across the room, which made everyone jump. We were then all made to wait while some woman was forced to answer the phone.
~~~
We were eventually allowed to take off our blindfolds, and I basically ripped that thing off of my face, finally getting to see properly again.
“We’re all trapped inside the same building here, which means we have to work together” That guy started up again, and I scoffed at his words, earning a nudge in the rubs from a guy I had never met. He was wearing a suit, so I assumed he was a worker in the Mint, and not a visitor like my group was. I winced as his elbow connected to my ribs, and I nudged him back a bit harder as some form of a warning.
“Problem?” I heard from in front of me as I attempted to argue with the guy beside me, who had now stiffened up at the voice that had addressed us.  Sure, it probably wasn’t the best time to argue, but I needed to do something rather than just standing and doing absolutely nothing. When I finally turned to look at the guy in red, I almost laughed.
“Yeah, obviously” I answered, my eyebrows furrowing as I glared at him. There was no point lying to the guy, since he knew that he was part of the main problem. We were pretty much the same height, which made him seem a little less intimidating than what he probably hoped.
“We would appreciate it if you listened when we’re talking” He looked a little surprised at my answer at first, but he didn’t actually do much about my brewing attitude.
“Is your ego damaged ‘cuz I won’t listen?” I asked, choosing to mock him instead of doing what he wanted me to. I knew he couldn’t hurt me, even if he wanted to, and that knowledge made it a lot easier for me to stand up for myself.
“You’re going to listen or one of us is gonna shoot you” He said after a brief moment of contemplation, pointing the gun he was holding against my side. I could feel the cool metal through the fabric of my shirt, and it would’ve made me shiver if I wasn’t so focused on his face. I didn’t really believe his words, and when he finally stopped talking, I spit in his face.
The way he flinched when my spit hit his face made my lips curl into a smirk, and I had to stop myself from laughing as he finally walked away. The rest of his little team all pointed their guns at me, although we were all surprised when he waved them off.
~~~
They’re making us print money. They’re making us all do the work for them, like we’re in a prison. We kind of are, but I still don’t like it. I had to work through the night, and when I finally got to relax, it was short lived. They then made us help dig an escape route. Dunno why I have to help though, since I’m not gonna be the one using it. Though, I suppose it was nice to see our ‘team leaders’ fighting with the director of the Mint.
When they finally let us take a break, they presented us with food. I didn’t think that I could continue working without it, so I was grateful that now was the time they had given it to us.
Everyone was gathered around the main area, lined up beside some tables where our current sheds were standing. They handed us trays of food, and I honestly wondered why I’m eating better in a hostage situation than I do at home. Eating instant noodles everyday was normal for me, so being handed a tray full of food was actually quite nice.
“Sir? Do you think we’ll get out of here alive?” One of my students asked as I sat down near our group. I had to take a second to swallow the rice that I had already shoved into my mouth, before answering.
“Yeah, Definitely” I answered, and it was obvious that they didn’t believe my words. “It seems like they’re not allowed to kill anyone.” I continued, and they all began whispering amongst themselves as I glanced over at where most of the robbers were sitting on the main stairs. Though, I stiffened when I locked eyes with one of them, only really noticing that it was Berlin after a few seconds.
He ended up raising his hand to wave at me, and I scoffed at the smug action, before showing him my middle finger in response, then looking back towards my group in an attempt to ignore him. The feeling of his eyes on the back of my head was unsettling, though.
“I reckon he likes you” Anne joked from a bit away from me, and I chuckled at her words, not really believing it at first.
“And I reckon you’re going insane.” I answered, which made her laugh. Though, her words did make me question the criminal for a moment, glancing back towards the stairs, only to find that he was still looking at me.
I chose to ignore what Anne said, although I will admit that the guy has a nice face…It's a shame that he's a dick.
how's the job hunt going? would you ever relocate for a job love?
Oh wow what a question lol! Honestly i dont expect to be able to find anything new till this strike is over, the competition is insane right now. In the meantime my plan is to teach myself faster hard surface sculpting in z*brush using hockey gear \o/ mostly because i dont want to pay the $150 a month for maya, that shits insane. Like a fucking health insurance payment.
For the second question - i dont think i've ever experienced love like that. I think it would take a lot of devotion and sacrifice to give up your dreams for someone else. Admirable, for sure. And also a sacrifice that historically women are the ones expected to make. Every time. :( For a job? Lol, i would move in a heartbeat. I stayed in pittsburgh 6 years after college for my dream job - i only left when i lost it. Knew the next dream job wasnt going to be there, so made my way to LA. And now im having to come to terms with the idea that the dream job doesnt exist as i imagined it - or only exists for a very VERY select few.
And actually, thats not totally true about me and love. I think if i thought for one second that nick could love me back like i diid him, id already be in new england. When i applied to this one job, that sounded like a dream come true it listed the salary, and brian and i just read it and gaped. We looked at each other and i was like i dont even know what the fuck i would DO with all that. And of course the first thing that popped into my mind was i could buy that sailboat nick always talked about. When i was writing my programming textbook a decade ago, and really going through it, and nick and i were up until 3 or 4am every night painting theater sets, he'd talk about his sailing adventures, teach me rope knots, that sort of thing, basically a mental escape. And so last week i texted him like 'hey no promises but what if im suddenly actually making good money. Do you still want that boat?' Because, nick's worked so long and so hard and all he's gotten to is the point of still working on boats other people own, and its just not fair how devalued physical labor is, you know? And his immediate reaction was to launch into our very old daydream - the whole 'yes and you're coming with me, sail off into the sunset' stuff. And that hadnt occured to me - my idea was just- id give him the boat, and he'd fix it up, and id maybe demand photos or a visit or two every so often. Because i think finally -finally- im at a point in my life where being in love isnt enough - i want the other person to love me back. And lol definitely not someone who declares love one minute and then stops talking to me for weeks or months, and the cycle repeats over and over. I think its possible to love someone enough that you recognize you arent the one for them, but still want them to be happy? Happier than you could make them.
So long answer is yes, i would relocate for love, but i have learned the hard way to know when i shouldn't.
I have been sitting on this au for a while now because I got obsessed with this song
and rn I'm putting a trigger warning for underage s3x work and overall stuff in that theme, so u have been warned
it's on ao3 because I went waayyy to overboard, it was supposed to be a quick description but it's over 2k words long 💀
but here you have a bit of it to see if you are interested in reading it
we are starting from the very popular trope of street rat Kallus, him and his family are living in the lowest levels of Coruscant. At that point it's only him, his mom and his older (by 4 years) sister, Kallus' dad died in a work related accident (he was a factory worker so let's say he got crushed by some machinery or something) and his younger brother died from some hardcore pneumonia. Kallus' mom has two jobs that pay absolute shit, his sister can't find anything beside some odd jobs here and there and as a 13 year old all he can really do is pick some pockets and/or steal to try and help his mom and sister. At that age he already hit his first growth spurt so he looks a bit older than he is, what I'm getting at is that one day he tries to pick pocket some flashy dude (which was pretty weird because what is this well dressed guy doing in the slums but who cares, he prolly has a lot of cash) but he gets caught. This guy gets one look at 13 year old Kallus and he can see right through this kid, he grins sweetly at him and starts to play this nice man who wants to help a kid and his family get out of a tight spot so he offers Kal a deal, he will give his mom and sister enough money to get out of this gutter and start a good life and Kallus will perform for him to pay it off. Kallus took the deal, he didn't care what he would have to do because, frankly, he would lie down his life for his mom and sister, the guy actually makes him sign a fucking contract for this. Kallus signs the damn contact and takes the cash the guy gives him, his now boss tells him that both of them are flying off the planet the next day and tells him to meet him right in this spot on that certain time, and he better be there because if he isn't, well, he will need to say goodbye to his precious family. Kal runs back home, gives his mom and sister the money and tells them that he will work off planet for a while, he doesn't know where but he will try his hardest to communicate with them somehow.
the rest is on ao3 :3 but bellow I'm gonna leave some authors notes heh
"well that's all I got, there is so many holes in this, lack of names etc. because I'm on and off about this au. Though, I have a few scenes in my head that are connected to the song itself so I can write those out withe the lyrics they match with if anyone is interested in all of this :))"
also 2 things, I would be happy to hear some feedback form u! I have no one to talk about this so I will be happy about anything :'D, and sorry about any grammar mistakes, I'm kinda brain dead rn pfff
sorry again that it has to be in two separate places, tumblr has a word limit 🙃🙃
We are concluding the 2nd rotation in the Asian part of my town with the Tians. They are getting a free goat from the ROS gods, which makes sense, since they have sheep already. I ended up just giving them 2 goats - a male and a female, for the chance of producing baby goats, because they really just started and they had some disposable money.
I rolled for a ROS for them again, because I felt like I went too easy on them. The 2nd ROS decided I would have to fulfill their wants this round (otherwise I'd need to do the same next round, but for fears). It was not difficult to achieve, but I must say Hiroki had the weirdest wants for a Popularity sim. He wanted to buy stuff, and get some skill points (that part I can understand, as it was autumn). The illness must have changed his priorities in life. Sadly, I couldn't get him a lot of the stuff he wanted (TV? toy dog pen (bunny)? I really wanted to give him a recliner, but the want wouldn't fulfill). He did get to Charisma level 5 at least.
I found a job for the man of the house, as this family is not going to be selling anything for a while. There was a vacancy in the Culinary career, and this is the perfect job for a food provider, and Hiroki's One True Hobby happens to be Cuisine, too. Hiroki also wanted to hire a nanny, but that couldn't happen... I'm guessing that means he prefers going to work instead of staying home though.
~*~
Tasuku is a Taurus. He's 6 Neat and 6 Outgoing just like his dad. He's also 4 Lazy like his mom. But he's also more Playful (9) and Grouchy (3) than both of his parents. Both Fumi and Hiroki are 7 Nice.
Fumi taught Tasuku all of his toddler skills (she actually wanted to teach him all 3, which is quite rare in my game). His dad taught him the Nursery Rhyme, because I wanted him to remember something related to his firstborn.
I wanted to wait with more babies, like I did with the Lao family, but Fumi wanted another baby, and I was supposed to be fulfilling wants...
So their next baby was meant to be twins, but one of them was not meant to be due to terrible rolls. I also rolled 3x at birth, as if it was a twin birth, but Fumi still survived it, so I guess it was just that unfortunate infant. Hopefully they will get one more later, but nothing will replace the unborn twin.
Fumi threw two birthday parties for her firstborn this round, in both cases when the man of the house was at work. Is it offensive to her husband? I don't know, but he works late, so I am not blaming her.
I wanted to add that I'm not sure if Fumi really wanted to throw the 2nd birthday party for her son, or for the occassion of her giving birth. Her husband just came back home and the party was halfway through, when she started giving birth and everyone ran to her. I named the newborn Hanako. She's a blue-eyed girl with black hair.
On the very last night of their rotation the burglar decided to come over. I flipped a coin and it decided that I should let Hiroki beat her up. I flip a coin for it now, because the Anyone Fights Burglars mod is always successful. I think the burglar wanted to steal some of the sheep, but she didn't get to do it fast enough.
Hiroki had two days off, I believe. Overall he got promoted once so he's on level 2 of the Culinary career track, which doesn't pay very well. But he has earned earned 966$ total.
500$ - rent
386$ - tax
97$ - tithe
They needed to pay 986$ (rounded down to 950$) + 500$ rent for last round. They are left with some change they could use to set up a store, but I don't think they'll be selling anything before spring comes.
There is 8800$ in the town's bank... Let's say it was all spent to erect the monastery from earlier, because the unfurnished building is worth around as much. I imagine the monks are starting out sleeping on the floor or something...
here’s the real shit:
If you need it to live, it shouldn’t cost you money.
Fancy food? absolutely, get you a job, eat whatever kind of food makes you feel like royalty. Basic sustenance sufficient to be completely healthy? Should be free if you need it. Fancy house? hell yeah, get you a big money job and live in a mansion. Basic housing? Should be free if you need it. Fashionable clothing? Better find an income so you can buy that Gucci. A pair of overalls, shoes, and a jacket so you are covered and warm? Should be free if you need it. Super fancy education? pay up. Good education through college and continued access to information? Should be free to all.
And medical needs? Forget it, listen, if we have the ability to heal someone but we don’t do it, then I know we’re doing the devil’s work, and I’m not even religious.
I know people are gonna have problems so let me get an inb4
First of all, most people won’t just take these basics and then sit on their ass and do nothing, humans are gonna do shit - have you seen what people do in their free time already? Whole huge industries like youtube and hobby stores and shit are based on how much people want to do stuff – you literally cannot sit people in a room with a button labeled “will give you electric shocks” and nothing else to do without them pressing the button (there was an actual study done)
Secondly, most people are generally either not satisfied with the basics, or are only okay with the basics because it allows them to pursue some other worthy goal like school or art or caring for a family member full time or something. So i guarantee most people will still be seeking employment, only jobs will have to pay what people actually feel they are worth instead of paying what desperate people will agree to work for.
All studies of Universal Basic Income experiments and similar have indicated these things are true.
And last, if your undies are still in a bunch over people needing to contribute to “deserve” stuff like food and housing, let me say two things
A: in our earliest groups, humans provably cared for individuals who were not capable of hunting or gathering. Perhaps those individuals contributed in other ways. Perhaps they were loved and their company and presence was considered contribution enough. Or perhaps humanity was such that we just plain wouldn’t let another human in our group starve when we could share our food instead. Whatever the case, we gave up that kind of group to live in this kind of group, and if we can’t maintain that same level of humanity and kindness, then it is a worse group and we should fix it or go back to the other sort.
B: in general, i agree that people should contribute to gain access to things. I think most people WANT to contribute, it seems to me to be hardwired into us as social animals. Personally, i think the artist making do with basic accommodations, eating simple mass foods and wearing government issued clothing so they can spend their time creating music, writing books, practicing dancing or painting or idk, making “how to solve: my computer doesn’t recognize my phone for importing pictures” videos for free on youtube, you know, i think they ARE contributing (shout out to the unsung How To Video heroes, my gods, where would we be without them)
But if you want to talk about really contributing in a targeted societal needs kind of way, then i’m all for that too! So lets talk about some kind of system where, for example, everyone who is physically or mentally able spends 3 years between high-school and college in a National Projects Corps, like the army, but instead they travel to places in our country and are trained and put to work replacing roads, or becoming basic staff in hospitals, or building schools, or doing maintenance on bridges, or doing data entry for public health labs, or, idk, fixing the fucked up water in Flint. Three years seeing other parts of the country, meeting people from other walks of life, and learning valuable skills.
Best of all, a system like this has organic balances. You get a population boom? Well, you’re going to need a lot more public housing, and guess what? you also have enough hands to help build it, because of the population boom. Then, if you’re the kind of person who has a hardline belief about contributing to society, when you see somebody in government-issued overalls living a public apartment complex, you can rest easy knowing they probably fixed roads or built bridges or worked on the sewers or something, just like you.
And by the way, this would ACTUALLY create more of that free market effect people say should fix things. Like, if I have easy free access to food no matter what, i can then choose to only buy sustainably sourced food or whatever.
Anyway, there’s different ways to do it, but basically, if you need something to live a healthy life, a lack of money should never mean you go without it. If you need it to live a healthy life, you should get it. Everything else can cost money, there can still be expensive food and fancy houses, that’s fine, but the basics should be available to all. For free. Because we’re human and in a group together.
Serious IRL Stuff - Please Help
Hey guys,
I hate to be one of 'those people' but my husband and I have been really struggling this month. We work for a school district and we got some income from doing summer school but not nearly enough to get us through until August. Even though we start working again at the beginning of August, we won't get paid again until our next rent and car payment are already due, and because of the extreme summer we've been having our electric bill is much higher than we expected. In addition, no outside jobs will hire us for just three weeks of work (and based on my previous job hunting experience, wouldn't even complete the hiring process within three weeks).
If anyone can assist, even if just a little bit, I'll include some ways to help below. I'd like to note that these are in no way paying for my fan works, gposes, or fanfiction. Those will always be free and even minus money I'd still hope to make them if I have the ability to do so.
Paypal: paypal.me/laurawrites Venmo: @laurawrites
If you are unable to give, please share this. I don't have a large follower base so the people this will be able to reach will be limited.
Thanks, and I hope your summer is better than mine. <3
Hı, my safe place!
Here to confessional!
I am doing my master's degree in the Netherlands. I had the chance to attend Blackpink's concert here. girl, the concert was literally expensive. I paid almost 200 euro for the ticket. I also paid for accommodation in Amsterdam, cause I do not live in the capital. It cost me more than 500 euros in total. We waited in line for hours. I've bought from their merch before too. I work part time here. I also can't get a lot of pocket money from my family due to the exchange rate difference. government scholarship is enough to meet our basic needs. so it was a little challenging for me. but i was hoping that I will have fun. I love Blackpink. I've been following them for about 3 years. I was excited, so not complaining. But then, the concert was a disappointment for me. I want to speak honestly. vocals-stage presence were not good. Except for Lisa, the other members were making mistakes in the dances. Idk maybe you've probably seen the reactions on social media. especially jennie, it was like she was on stage because she had to be there. performances were not as exciting as I expected. There was a lot of autotune and playback support. When I wanted to accompany the songs, I felt a little embarrassed after a while because there weren't many people who did this, and I kept silent and continued swinging my light stick cause I thought I was being noisy and annoying. Most of watched the stages like an opera concert. jisoo's stage was actually nice but not very entertaining. I just watched with a stupid grin on my face. but I loved the vibe she gave. Jennie's was boring tbh. It was like watching a ballet show. After that, rosé's stage.. My bias is Rosé. I was planning to go crazy. As I watched it before, I was extremely hopeful that she will sing live. but i was shocked. Although she had been singing for years, she was not that stable and strong. Of course, the best vocal performance was hers. but if you compare it to western artists, you would think it is very amateur. She sang the song even without a smile on her face and didn't even give a little witty(?) flirty attitude. then she said otg. it was the same way. Even she himself seemed bored. She was sulking. Then Lisa came on stage. we had fun. pole dance was very good of course. she is amazing at dancing no doubt. but that was just it. She used the microphone for, like a minute during an entire performance. I felt like I was watching the stage of a tiktok influencer in a nightclub or something. entire concert was pretty much like that. No one is talking about the facts. concerts were not fun. You would have had the same experience if you had watched it in the cinema. I felt like I was watching their "the movie". There was no real communication with fans. there was no interesting, original reaction or connection. I feel asleep towards the end of the concert. There were also those who had already begun to leave the area. When it finished, I was yawning and then went to my hotel. I was not satisfied at all. This led me to think :'). I was like, why am I paying so much money for what? It still continues like that as far as I can follow. this is so embarrassing. You pay that much money, you wait for hours and you leave the concert with pure disappointment. seriously pr is incredibly effective. none of them are worth support as a singer name. they are just an influencer. It has nothing to do with being an artist. sad.
hello, darling!
i'm so sad to hear that... and it's understandable that you're angry and sad about the experience, more than anything because you spent a lot of money on the hotel and stuff
i've never seen blackpink in concert so i can't give my opinion about it, but thank you for sharing your opinion with me! i'm glad to hear that i'm your safe space haha <3
My retail job, most of the time, involves grocery store curbside pickup orders. So, to vent, I've made a list of things that customers do that bug me (and things they do that don't).
Categories:
Things customers think we hate, but we don't, and actually prefer over the alternative
Things customers do that I hate (that are relatively harmless but inconvenient and/or annoying to me)
Things customers do that I hate (that are rude)
Things customers do that we love
Content under the cut due to length. Also lots of food discussion, as is the nature of the beast.
Things customers think we hate, but we don't, and actually prefer over the alternative:
Calling ahead to let us know you'll be late and giving an ETA
Calling us and asking us to cancel or reschedule your order
Calling us for any change of plans, really. Life happens! We've had all kinds of things interfere with pickups. Births, deaths, car accidents, sudden hospitalizations, customers stranded halfway across the country for days. As long as we know when (and if) you'll be picking up your order, we can make arrangements as necessary to accommodate that.
Things customers do that I hate (that are relatively harmless but inconvenient and/or annoying to me):
Physically showing up in the employee area to inquire about your order progress and/or pick it up. If you forgot your phone and have no other way of contacting us we'll let it slide, but we get frightened easily when snuck up on, and feel pressured and cornered.
Trying to insist on tipping us after we have clearly communicated that we are unable to accept tips and could get in trouble or even lose our jobs over it. We appreciate the initial thought but WE COULD GET IN TROUBLE, we've already turned you down, you're just making it awkward.
Ordering larger amounts of items such as loose green beans, snow peas, or Brussels sprouts, which are sold by the pound. We are timed for every item; we are supposed to spend 30 seconds maximum on each item (locating, bagging, and moving to the next), and your 1 pound of green beans counts as 1 item.
When on the phone, interrupting or rushing me in the middle of my script (Thanks for calling, where are you parked, do you have coupons, how are you paying, etc.). Phone calls are difficult. Sometimes verbal speech at all is difficult. As I'm on the phone with you, reciting the script, I am also getting your order paperwork and/or electronic confirmation ready. The script gives me time to do that. Forcing me to deviate from the script has like a 25% chance of distracting me enough to forget a step, a 25% chance of throwing me off-balance enough that I need some time before I can speak coherently again, and a 100% chance of annoying me.
Asking when we'll get back in stock. We have no idea, 99% of the time, and even if we know it's been ordered, there's no guarantee it will show up on the truck.
Things that customers do that I hate (that are rude):
NOT TIPPING YOUR DELIVERY DRIVER, ESPECIALLY if you're ordering a lot of very heavy items like cases of water or bulk dog food. Even if you don't have the money to tip, at least have the decency to thank them for hauling so much stuff for you!
Ordering massive quantities of, say, on-sale meat items, without first independently calling the meat department. To begin with, if it's on sale, it's quite probable it's already sold out, and even if it isn't, you're clearly just hoarding and making it harder for everyone else. I'm not talking 2-3 big packs of ground beef or 2 turkeys; I'm talking 10 steaks, 5 family packs of pork.
Blaming us for the prices of things in the store. Yes, we know food is expensive. Yes, we know it costs so much more than it did last year. Many of my coworkers are food-insecure and often cannot afford to shop where they work. If we had any say over the prices, we would not be in this boat. Complain about the prices; they do suck, after all, but the instant you blame US, you're being rude.
When we're shopping, asking us where all the items you're looking for are. We are on a timer. The handheld shopping devices are tracking our every second and every action. Most of us are happy to point you in the direction of what you're looking for, provided we know the answer ourselves, but please don't keep coming back to us again and again and again. Also, because we are on a timer, it's nice to keep things straight and to the point. Some of my coworkers prefer it if you still say 'excuse me, could you please help me find ,' but provided your body language and tone of voice are not terribly aggressive, I happily respond to requests such as "BEETS?" and "where's bread?"
Insulting our coworkers. "I know it wasn't you, but the person who shopped this is an IDIOT-" we like them more than we like you. Even if it was a stupid mistake, don't go calling people names. We appreciate you letting us know an error was made and we'll do our level best to fix things and make things right. Besides, with some of the weirder errors, odds are it was made by a teenager who DOESN'T HAVE THE LIFE EXPERIENCE TO KNOW BETTER. Please don't be a jerk.
Things customers do that we love:
Ordering yogurt, especially multiples of each flavor. This is very good for our pick times! It's nice, quick and easy. Multiple produce items are also nice!
Giving notes on what you'd like as a substitution. "If this flavor is unavailable, please get X flavor". Or "I have a coupon; please stick to Y brand." We know what you want, you get what you want, everyone wins.
"Thank you!" notes. We read every one of them! Sometimes a simple 'thank you!' written in the order notes is exactly what we need to get through
Shout-out to one family of customers who find creative ways to bypass the 'no tips' rule. What they do is unrealistic for the average person to emulate, and I'll not get into specifics on the off chance someone from corporate sees this, but I will say they are much appreciated.
Hello Rosy! I feel a bit ashamed about this. I’m 26 and my partner is 29. We’ve been together for almost 5 years and living together for almost 3. We just bought an apartment with the help of our family, and we’ve still got a lot of things to get done and sort on the house. Now we have to be extremely careful with money, as people in our family won’t be able to help us for a while if the need arises. Before, we never failed any rent of any bill, and we still went out to eat, go to the cinema, buy some stuff we didn’t need, etc. We were already careful, but we could spend a bit without dooming us for next month. However, we have very simple jobs. I have a university degree and worked close to my field for a while, but it was always part time or without a contract. I now have a full time job as a receptionist, which isn’t a dream but makes do with the minimum wage. Partner had a really bad job when we started dating, but he’s been looking for better and better and has been founding them, until he settled where he is now. The pay is slightly higher than mine, but with taxes he brings home less. We’ve talked about getting better jobs and I’ve been sending out CVs, but no one calls me. As for him, he’s content where he is. This is where my shaming comes in: my work colleagues have partners and husbands that work for big industrial companies, which is what our city is filled with. Even if they don’t have good positions there, they are already paid much higher at entry level, but most of those jobs are by shifts. If my partner was willing to work by shifts, which is a massive headache, I realize, he’s make approximately 300€ or even 400€ more. Before, it didn’t bother me so much, but now it does because it really makes a difference. I could apply to those jobs but to those I definitely wouldn’t be called. We’ve argued about this before, he says shifts are out of the question so he can be with me, but I’m frustrated because I can’t find a better job and have been doing side stuff to get some more and neglecting myself. I want to make sure we have enough for rent as I’m scared to death of not being able to pay. I want us to be able to still go out to eat once in a while, I want him to be able to buy his booster cards for a fantasy card game he loves. Eventually he’d like to start a family in a few years, but I’ve told him I’m uncomfortable having kids with the financial instability we’re in. My colleagues have a good life and their kids are “safe” due to the job their partners have. One colleague even comments how her husband doesn’t like his job but he won’t let go of it because it allows him to have the lifestyle he wants, and he feels fulfilled in his free time. Right now my life feels really hollow, I don’t fancy my job but I don’t like where everything else is either. But I don’t want to be selfish to the point of asking my partner to get a more demanding job when he doesn’t want to and when my colleague’s partners do it and don’t like it. How can I get off this mindset?
Capitalism is an insidious game. There's really no way to win, because it's never enough.
Not to mention, just because you have a job that pulls in more money doesn't mean you are 'safe.'
There's no such thing. Stable industries fail. You can be let go at any moment. The things they tell you about what you will get when you reach a certain level of monetary success aren't really true.
Right now, you're comparing yourself to other people who are in different situations. You're a receptionist while they are probably farther along in their careers, right? You're min wage, and they're making more.
I mean, you're lucky. You have a good boyfriend and you have a home that you own. You do have some success and some security but you're not looking at what you have, but what capitalism has made you think you should want. Sure you want to be 'more secure,' but what are you willing to give up to have it? How do you win this game? I don't think the answer is to force your boyfriend to get a different job. You may want to plan for your OWN career to move forward. Where can you go with the credentials you already have? What else do you need to do to move to the next step?
Or the other way to change things is definitely to change your mindset and be thankful for what you have, like I said before, a home a boyfriend, lots of possibility for the future, time to spend together or do cool things.
I think housing can be really expensive and it can be stressful to keep up that financial burden. So how do you lessen that stress? Learn to be zen. Not easy but it does help. Earn more money. Not easy and can be a sacrifice. Spend less money. This actually isn't always that hard although it's definitely a sacrifice and you need to cut out things you are used to. Rent out a room in your apartment or take in a roommate? Sure it's not ideal, but it might help with stress and give you more leeway. Sometimes you need to give up the expensive house although I don't think I suggest that for you, but in the past I've found that getting a cheaper apartment can make things better.
I'm kind of throwing out different possibilities though I don't really have a definitive answer. I spent my 20s and most of my 30s in nyc where rent and cost of living is high and my earning were never a match, so I do understand. I'm also a bit disillusioned with capitalism and the idea that if you work hard you can make it. Because it's a rigged system. So I want to point that out. You might be seeing lots of examples of where it works so you think you should have it too, but what do you have to do to get it?
