Ok I’m just gonna say it. My feelings about Kougami up to this point:

(Disclaimer: I have not seen PPP yet so my impressions are based on the spoilers and discussions that all the watchers have had, -and they are subject to change) - also trying to separate my shipper feelings from this but beware of my inherent bias anyway.

Season 1: Kougami is generally very warm and protective towards Akane. He doesn’t see her as a woman yet but they both validate each other to an unimaginable degree. I mean, she risked her life and psycho pass to help him track down Makishima who ppl believed was a ghost. She restored the credibility of his investigative abilities and made him actually think that there might be a better world without the structural divisions that they have. That didn’t stop him from breaking the law but it’s obvious that he especially thought very highly of her even after leaving the country.

Psycho Pass: The Movie: honestly, the movie is so enjoyable with regards to Kougami’s character development. He smiles at Akane so much in this movie, tries to get validation from her and again is really protective of her. They definitely pose Akane as more womanly and more as a equal with him - both in physical and mental abilities. She also impresses him several times in the film. He’s overall amused like “wow, she actually followed me all the way out here. What a woman”

SS Case 3: He sings praises of Akane ofcourse, even in the presence of an undeniable beauty like Frederica. If anything, we can contrast Frederica finding him to Akane finding him in the first movie, and his dialogue and body language alone show how he’s mildly annoyed by or at least resistant to Frederica’s presence. Most of his character arc here is in relation to Tenzing though which I suppose was supposed to teach him to be responsible for more than just himself(?), but that ends up being left open ended during his fight with Garcia (I mean he stabs the man to death before they can conclude the dialogue). Overall though, Kougami’s smiles are for Tenzing here and also when he’s saying that he’ll return to Japan.

Season 3 and First Inspector: He’s either all focused on the investigation at hand or with Akane. Everytime he smiles in this season- it’s for Akane! And not to mention, they don’t even really discuss work or philosophy in their interactions, but more about themselves and what they’ve missed from each other after being separated for years. This is what gave me hope that his emotional intelligence had improved and he would finally find some peace in Akane’s presence.

Providence: Based on what I’ve read, Kougami feels rather out-of-character in this. Like a weird blip in the timeline of his character arc. All the bonus scenes I saw anyway just made his interactions with Akane awkward. I didn’t expect it to be absolutely smooth but where’s the warmth that he initially had for this woman in S1 and the 1st movie??? What is this fuckboi behavior Kougami??? Maybe he’s able to make up for it in the 3rd act of Providence at least based on the notes I’ve read but he’s just so cold. Like he has a point to make?? I’m so confused. The tone of Providence is just cold in general and we keep seeing scenes where Ko and Akane are just on their own, never really together and communicating - the rain, the ice, the cold city drafts - just adds to it. But maybe the fact that S3 and PPFI comes after this gives us hope that he did get his act together and maybe visited her more and actually talked this out with her while she was in confinement. Maybe we’ll get some bonus scenes in a novel format.

I haven’t even seen PPP yet and I already need a season 4 to redeem Kougami’s character like what the hell. (And I’m sure the animation staff are exhausted and I don’t wanna encourage overworking them) - even if it’s like a measly 45 sec scene, I need to see the warm and caring Kougami again.

Providence looks phenomenal though - the team definitely outdid themselves - and I can’t wait to watch it.

From #Shinkane to #ShizuAka

This is a long post about my journey from shipping Shinkane (for a long time) but decided to move on to ShizuAka.

Yes, we all know Shinya Kogami and Akane Tsunemori do have special bond. Like mental connection with each other. Soulmates as we call it. Connected by the Red String of Fate (as we call in Japanese).

And most of the characters from PP-verse validates and knows this. Such as Masaoka and his son Ginoza for example. But there are quite a lot of evidence that made us all flap our ears whenever our favorite pair Shinya x Akane is concerned.

Some instances are:

PP Season 1:

Everyone says that it's Kou's infamous scream "Akaneee!" that proves Shinkane exists. But I do believe it was when Masaoka and Kogami shared a drink the night he left the PSB that proves Shinkane almost exist (watch EP. 18 again and know for yourself what do I mean!)

Kogami's letter. That's it. We all know it. The fact that he wrote a hand written note for her, not for Shion, not for Ginoza, not even to his mom! We all know that he value her so much.

Okay, alright... that infamous scream when he shouted for his name!

When he smiled when Akane and her team went on to Makishima's location ahead after learning of Kou's plan (thanks to Akane). He gleamed with pride.

When he didn't immediately run to catch Makishima, but instead carry Akane (bridal style) into safety when they were in a corn field. Or Oat field, I forgot. It shows how much he cared for her.

At this point I think everyone pretty much confirmed they shared a special bond.

PP - The Movie (1st)

When Kou first save her from explosion by shielding with his sexy abs 🤭

When Kou suggested her to stay with him for the night when there's clearly more room with the female locals in the Angkor Wat.

Their silent "I-know-you-care-know-I-care" treatment when Akane has to leave upto the point they were captured by Wong.

Kou wasn't surprised when Akane handed him a cigarette like he expects her to have them.

Don't forget to mention about Wong capturing them two together and plan to frame them just them. Only them. Because he sees them as threat. As if they were an item 🙄

PP - SS3

He's mad when Frederica stayed for the night and he don't know why 🤣.

He's proud of Akane's accomplishment after hearing Frede talks about the success of Div 1 as a team.

His regrets for exacting revenge and hesitations to have Tenzing follow his path mirrors Akane's ideals.

His mention of "He still have things to protect in Japan" (pay attention on that one) because in;

PP - Providence

He tries his best to reconnect with Akane but a case gets in their way.

His willingness to throw himself between her legs just to save her from an explosion almost a mile away from them compare to PP movie explosion.

His classic line "I'll follow you, even if you told me not to".

His protective nature all throughout the movie upto Akane's downfall.

His teary eyes while reading Akane's letter.

His promise to take her out of that place.

That Psycho Pass Recap during PPP promotionals which showcases the Shinkane viewpoint.

PP - S3 & FI

He don't have to pay Akane a visit nor to pick her up from jail because she's no longer his inspector! But he did anyway.

He keeps on saying he trust her and believes in her.

He didn't hurt Arata because he knows he is Akane's ward. Yes it is included.

The Merch

Yes am talking about the #KoAka keychain.

The PPP movie poster where Kou and Akane's faces are in the big picture and the rest are inside their heads!

The fan service stuff and clickbaits for all #Shinkane or #Koaka junkies!

The unforgivable hints of any romantic subplots from radio drama, merch, narrative etc.

My point is, all of them are just a setup to garner more viewership because they know Shinkane fandom is a big bunch!

But in the end, they want to tear us down by breaking our hearts with platonic inclinations between Kou and Akane 😭

The Segue:

Yes they created a segue under the guise of Frederica Hanashiro and Shizuka Homura.

We all know that PsychoPass Producers wanted to go down the path of Shonen Jump-esque plot. Which is why they seen #Shinkane fanbase as a threat. Although they don't want to shun the viewership influence of it.

That's why they create this "icings" (Shinkane sweet moment) as we call it to clickbait us! 😭😞

The Lure:

That's why in PPP Sinners of the System 3 and PPP they wanted to showcase Kogami x Frederica (the KouxFrede touching hand scene), the "Hey Akane don't blame Frederica for Saiga's death", to teach us that Kou is shippable with Frederica (a hot blonde).

Why Shinkane is a strong fan fave?

Because Akane is relatable character.

Because Kogami is a hot mess.

Akane a plain looking girl able to get the impression of Kogami a good-looking bad boy and former ace detective.

We all can easily identify with Akane. Us ordinary girls with strong principles are dreaming of a hot dude like Kogami who has ex-militia skills to swoon us over.

How the writers are tearing the #Shinkane/#KoAka fanbase:

Akane did ask (or even beg) Kogami to come back to Japan (from Season 1 especially the Psycho Pass Gekijōban, but he express no desire.

Only when Frederica, a tall-blonde-gorgeous looking half-brit half-japanese woman was able to bring him back.

They have a flirtateous moment in Sinners of the System part 3 novel during their night conversation.

The Kou x Frede indirect kiss through the bottle Scene.

Kou always standing beside Frederica.

Kou still choose to work in SAD with Frederica eventhough he has a chance to go back to PSB in PPP.

Kou's been treating Akane like trash eversince he gets back:

(1) During his famous balcony call when Akane hangs up. He didn't say sorry but instead let his pride dominate him.

(2) He only visited Akane in Season 3 after 2 years (when he rest his back at the door simply because he felt awkward bending to look at the window of Akane's height.

(3) He only picks her up out of guilt after he reads her hand-written letter.

(4) It was Shizuka Homura who negotiated Akane out of jail not Kogami.

(5) Kogami didn't comforted Akane. Only Ginoza did.

(6) Kogami had the chance to go back for Akane but he didn't. He chose to stay with Frede in S.A.D.

(7) Shinkane is one-sided. Only Akane likes him. But Ko?? No. The novels confirm that.

The Future of Shinkane:

From this point forward we can't expect anything much from this ship. Although as fans, we will keep them into our hearts and be as free as clouds to do more fanfictions out of these two characters because we've been rooting them since day 1.

But I think the writers want to us to move on with Kogami x Frederica and Shizuka x Akane.

With that, eventhough I still ship KoAka/Shinkane, I keep the possibilities open should the writers want to push them to other characters.

My Dime:

At this point I truly wish Akane would die in Kogami's arms and he finally realize he too has feelings for her but it's too late (as Saiga foretold), and he gets back to PSB mentoring new characters. Applying both his ideals to never overlook injustice plus also applying Akane's principles to uphold what is right by being just and fair.

"Here." Ayla trusts one of two identical transparent cups into Querl’s hands. It’s cool to the touch, though less so than how most humans appear to prefer their beverages, and contains a white, viscous liquid with an almost imperceptible pink tint, punctuated by small, dark dots.

"What is this?" Querl asks, eyeing the substance sceptically. He’s not made a habit out of trusting unidentified liquids his teammates hand to him, since many of them have demonstrated an interest in regularly consuming nearly or slightly toxic substances for no justifiable reason. It might not even be consumable at all, for all he knows.

"Protein shake. Contains fancy seeds and stuff, Tenzil says it has benefits." She grins at him and leans back against the railing, turning her back towards the biosphere below as the contents of her own cup lap dangerously high up the container’s walls and threaten to spill over them at any moment..

"Benefits?" Another thing his teammates seem to have their own ideas about. No surprise that Tenzil is the source of this mystery liquid though.

"Oh, you know, some stuff,” she says nonchalantly, her lips still curled into the type of grin that says it’s not.

"Ayla, elaborate."

"Tenz said he got it from some ancient human records called P-ins that said it's supposed to give you energy." Ayla leans closer, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "Sexual energy."

“Grief,” he says, drawing out the word to empathise his disbelief. "That seems highly unlikely; The replicators are not configured to provide medical grade products. And even if they were there'd be no guarantee it would have the same impact on either of our biologies as it would have had on a human a thousand years ago." Despite himself Querl can feel the tip of his ears and cheeks heat up, undoubtedly turning a treacherous dark green even as he tries his best to remain unbothered.

"Yeah, yeah, science. Can't hurt to try it though, can it?" As Ayla leans back again, as relaxed as ever, Querl studies her expression for a sign of, well, anything. She’s more open than most, but he is quite frankly awful at reading people and she knows that.

"It definitely could. But you don't actually think this will work, do you?"

"Only one way to find out." She takes a big gulp of the drink and then pauses for a moment, as if to savour it, her face a mask of exaggerated contemplation. "But nah, I think Tenz is full of nass on this one. He'd believe any recipe he found in any old record. Helps being able to eat all the weird stuff they used to eat back then, I guess. This ones’s not too bad though, doesn’t even taste like chems." She wipes the back of her hand across her lips.

Querl raises his cup and slowly rotates it, watches as the thick liquid lazily swirls in the cup and the black dots bob up and down in it like miniature buoys. There is a notable lack of a chemical smell to it, replaced instead by a weak, earthy scent not unlike some of the things they ate while stuck in the 20th century. Very unlike the so-called pizza they ate there, but not unlike certain other things they ate. Its appearance still fails to bring him comfort.

"You do know you don't have to bring me food," he says, glancing over at Ayla. Stalling, if only a little.

"I know, but I get worried about you sometimes. Lyle does too, judging by what Salu says he’s told her.”

"And what has he told Salu?" He narrows his eyes, running through the options in his head.

"She didn’t say exactly what he said, just that he gets worried about you sometimes. I think he mentioned something about it while they were on a mission with the squad ‘cause they’d been away for a while?”

“He... does that.” Querl sighs. ”I’ve already explained that he shouldn’t be concerned, I clearly survived just fine before him.”

“Not really how it works, my guy. Look, I don't really know what's up with you and I ain't going to dig if you don't want me to, but you should take care of yourself. You're not helping anyone by not taking care of yourself and we'd all be pissed if you died or something. It was bad enough the last time around." Ayla takes another drink from her cup, her gaze seemingly fixed on something very far away. Or perhaps nothing at all.

"It's fine. I'll be fine."

"Good. Now try the sprocking thing before it becomes even warmer."

Querl takes a last look at the liquid in the cup, then brings it to his lips and takes a small drink. It’s smooth and still slightly cold, the texture only broken up by the black dots, which somehow manage to be both gelatinous and hard at once and feel oddly large and uncomfortable in his mouth. It’s not too dissimilar to the awful, pungent "milkshakes" Lyle seems to have a thing for, but unlike those it's not heavy with the kind of artificial sweetness that lays itself like a thick coat over one’s tongue and teeth. It's still sweet, but the taste is less pronounced, tinged with a bitter and earthy note. It’s a strange and unfamiliar taste, but not a wholly repulsive one.

"So, what do you think?"

"It's acceptable."

"Uhu, feeling any energy yet?"

"Grief, Ayla." He rolls his eyes and she lets out a bark of laughter, whatever shadow that came over her before now gone.

"Just checking," she says, before taking yet another sip from her own cup. "It is pretty good actually. A lot of food here tastes so fake, but this could actually have some real nuts in it."

“And here I thought you didn’t know anything about nuts.” Ayla reaches over to swat at his shoulder with the back of her hand, but her touch is light and there’s a clear, contagious bemusement in her expression.

“Oh, and I thought we were being proper today,” she says.

“There is nothing improper about discussing commonly farmed crops. You of all people should know that.”

Ayla snorts. “Nasshead. Nuts aren’t even common crops back home. Most of it’s just grains and even then we sell most of that.”

"Hm, yes, I suppose that’s true. Most food on Colu originates from Winathian grain producers, though as far as I know it’s processed off planet."

"That weird bread you-all eat?"

"It's not bread. It's super-processed grain infused with vitamins, proteins and mineral additives. It’s a nutritionally complete food and makes use of as much of the grain as possible, thereby reducing waste and ensuring our survival."

"Thanks for the lecture. Kinda tastes like nass though." Ayla grimaces in mock disgust.

"Flavour is perhaps not its main benefit.” It, in truth, doesn’t taste like much of anything at all. He’s still not decided if he prefers that to all varied, unexpected and often disgusting tastes of alien food. “It's very efficient though, both to transport and to eat, and you don’t need to eat anything else to fulfil your nutritional needs.”

"I just can't imagine not having other options though. Even when we have bad years back home we usually have some options. Buncha different recipes and conserves. My grandmas all knew probably about a hundred different things to do with mixed grains and not much else."

"Perhaps it's different for other people. My family constellation wasn't ideal for being immersed in our culinary traditions." Querl shrugs half-heartedly. It’s not like he ever would have had a choice even if he had wanted to.

"Nass, sorry, I didn't mean it like that."

"It's alright." It is. It doesn’t hurt like it did before, in particular not when it’s her saying it. Unlike some her words aren’t laced with ill will and Ayla is, for as boisterous and loud she can be, surprisingly easy to get along with. Surprisingly easy to just be around.

They fall into a comfortable silence after that, continuing to sip at their drinks as they slowly turn room temperatured. It’s strangely filling for a drink, though Querl supposes that has something to do with the – by the name implied – added protein and perhaps the partially soft black things. He makes a mental note to research the matter further later, perhaps even by talking to his worrier of a boyfriend.

The cup is mostly empty by the time he breaks the silence.

"Thank you. For the drink. It’s not as disgusting as it first seemed." Tilting the cup back and forth he watches as the now thinned out liquid and a few stray dots flow along the bottom of it, trying to keep up with its movements.

"Any time. Gotta keep you going so I can keep kicking your ass in training."

"How altruistic of you. Perhaps you would be better off fighting someone who can match your enthusiasm?”

"And risk losing? Don't think so, beans." Ayla eyes him, her eyebrows knitting together in either a frown or thoughtfulness. “I mean, unless you want to.”

“I don’t. And even if I did, someone would inevitably lecture me about the physical demands of our field of work and demand I train with Val, again.” Querl waves a hand dismissively in her direction, then crosses his arms. “Besides… I do appreciate your company. Even with the absurd nicknames.”

“Aw. Maybe someday I’ll teach you how to make up nicknames too.” She reaches over and ruffles his hair. If he makes an indignant noise in response it’s nothing short of her fault.

20 Questions for Fic Writers

@gretchensinister tagged me, and I realized I can't mope about lack of interaction if I don't interact! This ended up being a really fun sort of retrospective :)

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

44. tbh I think that's an inflated number since for some reason I posted every single chapter of the Evil Boyfriends Series as a separate ficlet??? and there's like 30 of those.

2. What’s your total word count?

349,680 if my math is right (it rarely is)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Rise of the Guardians, The Hobbit (movies), Fantastic Beasts (first movie only and wrote is in bold past tense there lmao), and now getting back into it (arguably returning to my roots of dramatic hot mess Nightmare/Dream King Sandmen) with The Sandman (Netflix)

4. Top 5 fics by kudos

Safe and Distant (Thorin/Bilbo, The Hobbit)

Rarely and not as often as I'd like. I'm also bad at responding to texts from friends tho, so it's a Thing. I love and read every comment repeatedly though!

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Shiver/Tremble for the Rise of the Guardians. No question. They're also the darkest things I've written. First thing I ever wrote seemed to purge all my darkest impulses out right at the jump.

(I ain't linking those lmao. I don't regret writing dark noncon fic, or even taking on writing it from the predator POV. They're just my very first published works and shit is ROUGH.)

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

The Cultural Misunderstanding series of Safe and Distant and Mahrâna. Based on the fact that they actually ARE finished and I always held that the Evil Boyfriends Series isn't exactly a "good" ending for Jack, even if it isn't a bad one.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Mahrâna had a commenter who was mad that all the dwarves said fuck because "Tolkien wouldn't have them say that."

This was on the sequel to a fic where Thorin and Bilbo explicitly touched their dicks, and thus it remains the funniest comment I've ever received.

(They also thought Thorin was too obviously Mentally Ill and since there were no therapists in Middle Earth they didn't see why anyone would put up with him. So. Y'know. Fuck that commenter in general.)

9. Do you write smut?

YUP

10. Do you write crossovers?

Nah

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Safe and Distant has been translated to Chinese, German, and Russian!

Steady Hands has been translated to Russian

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Tremble, the equally fucked up sequel to Shiver, was done with a co-author where we went back and forth on chapters!

Currently, Audacity in Human Form has @amahhi as my co-author, as it's written based off of our RP where I wrote Dream and she wrote Hob, and she's who I bounce ideas on for adapting it all into fic form while she also acts as my beta editor.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

This is like asking for a favorite food why. Hell some of my favorite ships are ones I haven't written fic for (Newt/Hermann, Jayce/Viktor, William Laurence/Tenzing Tharkay to name a few).

(Tbh I wouldn't even say whether or not I write fic depends on how much I like the characters. Amahhi and I also have many rp storylines that are basically full fics of all of the above ships (shout out to the Newmann Star Trek AU that remains one of my favorites ever, along with the Willzing with Werewolf!Laurence). It just depends on if my brain figures out how they'd be written as a fic.)

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

A Study on the Habits of the Adult Obscurial. In my heart I still love my version of Credence, who is pretty much an OC of mine with how far I went "oh fuck that" at canon after the first movie. But between the terrible sequels, Rowling going full terf, and the fact that I had not actually plotted out a good outline and was hitting a wall.....yeah that thing's never getting finished. I recently put a note on there letting any new readers know it's officially abandoned.

Things That Were also ran into the problem of me taking on a big fic idea without the big fic planning. I had specific future scenes in my head but didn't have a strict guide on what happened when or how characters would get from A to B. That one I'm more sad about needing to give up on though.

16. What are your writing strengths?

According to friends and comments: dialogue, particularly capturing a characters voice in the dialogue and POV prose, and getting a solid characterization overall.

I'm also told I'm good at making a ship into a convincing couple and how they work as a couple.

Which is good for me, because those are my favorite things to write! Most of my fics are built on scenes of dialogue that popped into my head and the dialogue is what I have the most fun writing (hence why most of my Tumblr posts are goofy dialogue bits).

And I just like taking the characters as they are at a point in their story and going "ok, if these two get together, how does that happen?" and exploring it from there. Tbh I consider most of my successful fics to be character studies hiding in a full fleshed fanfic.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

What the fuck is a story plot????

Is a plot not just "two people take 50k words to figure their shit out with almost no other characters coming in?" What the fuck is actually planning out a storyline with beats to it and an outline? (Trying to get better on the last one, Audacity actually has an outline that includes what specific RP scenes to flesh out or what gets subtracted/added!) (As far as plot goes I've now accepted that I'm not actually A Writer. I just wanna do my drawn out character studies and that's what I'm gonna do damnit.)

Besides that: laying out scenes beyond just the dialogue. Using repetitive descriptive language or getting rambly with it. I legit don't know if my occasional super short sentence lines for character reactions come across as punchy or if it's just choppy and disjointed, which ties in with a general struggle to keep small scenes flowing into each other without getting bogged down in details that fuck pacing up.

According to my various betas: punctuation is my mortal enemy, and I don't know how to make a sentence that isn't a fragment or an eternal run-on. I will sometimes fight them on my sentences and they put up with a lot.

Also, writing discipline in general. I'm uh, very bad at making myself sit down to write even when I want to, and my job tends to burn up the executive functioning points that my ADHD meds give me.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?

Did it a little bit for Mahrâna with Thorin speaking Khuzdul, but not more than short sentences and it took a stupid amount of looking things up for a couple sentences of dwarvish dirty talk lmao.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

If we count what was actually posted: Rise of the Guardians.

20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

Safe and Distant/Mahrâna are my magnum opus, with Safe and Distant as my personal favorite even though there are bits I'd change (mostly in the smut scene).

I think finishing Mahrâna was a bigger accomplishment and it was overall a bigger challenge to write Thorin's pathos and the mental journey he had to go through, but Safe and Distant was just FUN to write. It was the last time I was young and dumb enough to do things like stay up until 7AM writing nonstop. I think I did a good job of managing to take my strength of chronologically disjointed, shorter character driven scenes and stringing them together into something cohesive. I still like the back and forth flashbacks I did and think I did a good job making the flashback scenes related to the current storyline, even with the flashbacks being out of order.

(Ironic that Bilbo was more fun to write, when Thorin was who I fixated on more ferally and thought about more as a character. I'm having the same thing now with Hob and Morpheus lmao. I love rotating those dark, dramatic, brooding king types in my head, but actually writing the internal brooding out makes me want to chew glass and bully their dramatic asses.)

((still don't know why tf I thought Bilbo would be the virgin of the two of them, or why I have that bit in there with a fucking hobbit being a little insecure about pudge. God I was off base with that lmao))

Idk why Frederica,Kougami and Tenzing’s found family dynamic in SS case 3 was very interesting for me.Frede very much served as the matriarch of their own ragtag family.She has an extremely nunaced grip on Kougami’s personality as well(after all she’s the one who made him come back to Japan) and is very much capable of keeping up with him.Ever since the FI manga extra I feel like writers have an inclination to build up the relationship more(If you compare Frederica’s approach to Sugo and Kougami you can clearly tell she’s very much interested in Kougami).It wouldn’t need any buildup.Just a little confirmation and they can be a thing(unlike koukane who they have refused to lean into for years).Shiotani has already expressed his interest for a MOFA SAD spin off multiple times and it has a good chance of happening considering Kougami’s popularity.If that ends up happening I can easily see them working out.Like Japanese Batman and Catwoman hah!I used to have a diligent passion for koukane but I have made peace with the fact it has become stagnant and their ideologies would never converge.It would be great to let them both move on with their respective love interests and stop ship baiting.

Oooooooooooooook, I agree to an extent. I've previously and many times said that I Kourica? Fredegami? however we do want to name their "ship" is my guilty pleasure. The problem is that even if everybody on the high floors says that Shinkane is only platonic, senpai/kouhai, or whatever, the tension exists. Their bond exists. For the sake of uprightness, I must say that, or Shiotani-sensei is very bad at writing romance (and yet, we have Kunikara, Kei and Maiko, even the hints of Karina and Arata, Mao and Kei, and the more explicit Irie's feelings for Mao again, but I should add Sugo's friend and her husband from Case 2, just to say, and sorry if I'm forgetting other) or, simply, everything is in the realm of "better keeping the status quo because things should get worse next installment and we need the characters to be focused and not distracted by romance"... I'm more for the second, actually. Now, I agree with everything you say about Case 3, but even if Frederica's approach is definitely more personal regarding Kou than regarding Gino and Sugo... mhhhh... Kougami is the one: 1) totally oblivious to feelings (he wasn't even able to figure out why Akane wanted from him in PPP, nor, in Frederica's case, able to read her in Case 3 novel); 2) uninterested in love or romance (season 1: Kougami was revenge!driven; case 3: see above; season 3: brooding, constantly p*ssed off, his only goal was to free Akane from jail); 3) there's the possibility (but unless there is an official confirmation, I would take it with a grain of salt) that he's not attracted by women... That's why I think that everybody has the right to ship or to want the characters they love with everyone they want, as long as there is respect for the ones who think differently. Should Shinkane happen I'd be the happiest person in the world, but after all, all that they need is happiness and freedom before everything (also, considering what kind of existence they live), then we'll see. If Fredegami or Shizuaka tho should happen... well, to me, they're both quite a guilty pleasure, so I'm totally fine with it! 🤭

Week 4

Monday

Due to damage on the overhead line at Coventry, all trains were cancelled towards birmingham from Northampton. This meant i was unable to travel in to uni. As soon as i knew i wasn’t going to make it, i informed Lara and my group. Asking if they would keep me updated throughout the day and if they could call me on teams if there was any group discussion being made.

Once i was back at home, i read through the narrative PowerPoint on Moodle, and tried to brainstorm some ideas for a narrative/ theme for our installation. Just so that if the group were to call me or for the next time i was back at uni, i had something to contribute. Here are a few of my ideas:

- Landmarks (express lift tower, greyfriars bus station etc.)

- shoe factory

- Great Fire of Northampton (1675)

-Everest (Northamptonshire made the shoes of Everest summiters Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay)

-DNA/ double helix themed space

I also found a BBC article on how northampton proposes to save its dying town centre (from May 2019). Conservative councillor Mr Nunn was quoted in this article warning against quickly filling empty shops by selling off land and said does not want “a mediocre thing that does not actually achieve anything for the town.” This should suggest the local government would be in favour of a proposal such as ours as its aim is to bring the community together and to bring more footfall back to Northampton’s town centre. Hindsight is also interesting as a lot of the empty high street stores in northampton have been converted into casinos within the past year which would indicate that this aim was unsuccessful.

I also looked into what type of exhibitions were currently on display in Northampton’s museum and art gallery. They have a punk exhibition and their permanent shoe exhibit. Both of these could be good to go and see when the group come to visit the location. I then also remembered 78 Derngate is another artistic landmark in the town centre as it is Charles Renee mackintosh’s only house designed by him. I forwarded this to the group to see if it was of any interest to them.

Other than this, I didn’t really get to talk to my group about our ideas. They only offered to call when they were going to present their ideas on narrative to the group at the very end of the day and by this point I had to start getting my things together for dance as we were having a class competition in the evening and my dad had kindly agreed to drive me to Sutton Coldfield so I wouldn’t miss it.

There was no progress on what our next steps are to move forward within our project, only a message at 6pm from Lewis suggesting we reconsider having our project based in Birmingham. I found this slightly irritating as we had the whole day to discuss our ideas yet he chose this time of evening to message the group. I also think that changing our idea four weeks into the project would be detrimental to the quality of our work. Therefore I did not respond to the message as I would rather speak to the whole group in person and see what the whole group thinks instead of coming up with a response just from one persons message.

Tuesday

I spent most of this day converting my website to have a section for my portfolio. prior to this, I had tried to create a digital portfolio using a different website however all of the sites used to make a portfolio type of website required a subscription. there do seem to be limits with using big cartel as a portfolio. I seem to only be able to have my images displayed singularly in a top to bottom aspect, unless they are items being sold. this makes it a lengthy process to navigate through my work and its different categories.

Wednesday

The morning began with our feedback from David. I presented to him my CV, website and instagram. He seemed to like what I had in terms of branding and contents. His feedback was mainly for my website. we discussed whether or not I should separate myself from my shop brand, marketing myself in two different manners. this clarity was great for myself to understand how I will market myself in the future. as we decided my art shop is more of a side hustle, rather than my main career goal, I should create a LinkedIn profile for myself, that mentions my shop as one of my projects. from this, I have decided to add "by Niamh Greene" to the description of Badass Cow across my instagram and website. this also confirmed that I should keep my portfolio on my website as it may bring me other commission type of work.

For my website, we also discussed having the categories of my work displayed on one page that would link to collections of my work that could then be enlarged with a description of each piece of work. I will have to do some more playing around with this possibility as I'm not sure big cartel would allow this internally. David also mentioned having more text on my website. I feel I could include this as a welcome to my site/shop, as well as each section/page of the site.

I will also add more highlights to my instagram so that people can quickly navigate through my different categories of work, and potentially upload carousels of different projects that are featured in my portfolio.

I found this day to be the most difficult with my group. The way we originally decided between Birmingham and Northampton was by having a vote and majority ruling because this was the most fair way of deciding. Northampton had the majority yet I feel a lack of engagement from some of the group members. While I understand Northampton is further away and most of the group cannot pop down regularly to the town centre just to have a look around, we are doing a national project and there are copious amounts of online research potentials to make up for this. Not to mention I would be more than happy for them to send me to go check anything out for them. We are also planning a visit to Northampton anyway so that everyone in the group can get a feel for the town and the possibilities.

During our group discussion on Wednesday, the others mentioned that they were visual people who struggle to understand a concept unless they can see it. to help display these narratives, I put together some Pinterest boards. We said we would make some designs for the space over the week so I have opted to go for collages to propose this.

Sentinels reportedly signs new in-game leader to join 2024 VALORANT roster

According to a tip from Alejandro "anonimotum" Gomis, Sentinels has verbally agreed to have former M80 VALORANT player, free agent, and in-game leader Mouhamed "johnqt" Ouarid oversee the in-game shot-calling for the star-studded team for the 2024 VCT Americas season. Sentinels has reportedly been in the market for an in-game leader prior to next season, and with johnqt playing primarily sentinel agents while also IGLing, he seems poised to be a perfect fit for Sentinels next season. Kogami usually isn’t one to adhere to Christmas traditions, having always been far too busy with work to think about settling down and doing anything special with the holidays except show up to his parents’ and the occasional office party. He can count how many times he’s worn one of those Santa hats on one hand, and it stopped completely by the time he went overseas.

Tenzing coming along changed everything, and when he realized how much of these Christmas traditions she might have never seen for herself, he made it his mission to make up for it — Christmas, then, became a very big deal, and he’s glad it didn’t take much convincing for Thana to go along with it since they’re fond of the little girl themself.

Kogami went the full nine yards: the tree (which he sacrificed one of his bookshelves to place), the stockings, the makeshift fireplace, the mistletoe at every doorway, and, lastly, the cookies he planned to leave out for Santa.

Tenzing is old enough to know that Santa is just some dead old guy kept alive in spirit, but she’s kind enough to let the gesture count and entertain the idea of him arriving in the night.

“You should go to bed now, Tenzing.” Kogami said, nudging Tenzing’s shoulder to rouse her from the light doze she fell into as she leaned against him. They spent the better half of the evening cozying up in front of a space heater; Kogami read, and Tenzing did so secondhand, just over his shoulder until she got drowsy. “Santa’ll stop by for sure.”

“Are you sure it won’t really be Thana eating the cookies?” She wiped her eyes.

“I’ll guard it myself.”

“Then Santa won’t come because he’ll be scared of you.”

“I promise Santa and I are fine with each other. Just get to bed.”

“Alright… Good night, Kogami.”

She gave Kogami a hug, then disappeared down the corridor to her room.

Kogami spent more time reading in the living room, then dozed off himself.

He woke up to the pitch black living room, with the tiny space heater turned off. He imagines Thana or Tenzing might’ve been responsible for that, and he smiles fondly at their thoughtfulness (though his age must be catching up to him because he’d normally remember to make sure that was accounted for … ah, whatever).

What alarmed him, though, is the crunching and clattering coming from this kitchen.

He sprang to his feet, dropping his book to the floor with a muted thud, and stalked towards it to investigate. He saw the white haired head, even in this dark, and smacked the light switch on. They swiveled to meet his gaze, and their eyes looked went wide like a cornered animal’s.

“You!” He said in whisper-shout, mindful, he hoped, of their sleeping child. “She told me you’d be the culprit, and yet— drop it!”

He reached over to take the plate from Thana, but they, with their mouthful of cookies, turned so he missed it.

“I’m not fighting you on this. Put it down.”

Their narrowed red eyes said, No.

“I’m not going to fight you on this..! Put. It. DOWN.”

They proceeded to fight on this.

Idk if you have seen the most recent TomoSeki interview but this is what he basically says(DeepL translated but comments said pretty much the same thing so I’m assuming it’s not incorrect):

1.He doesn’t think Kougami should have a lukewarm(I assume he means somewhat hopeful?)ending.Instead of being happy with someone else he wants Kougami to be executed by Akane or he wants Akane to find his dead body.This is how he envisions Kougami’s definitive ending scenario.Apparently he also discussed it with the director,Shiotani before PPP started recording and Shiotani was very surprised by Seki’s vision.(not sure why?maybe he’d a different vision or something?)He also wants Akane to think long and hard before shutting down Sybil system.

2.He says he doesn’t think Kougami shouldn’t be happy but he should never have a normal life that means peace,regular day to day life or family.I don’t exactly understand what he said but it has to do with burden of sins or something.He probably means after what Kougami has done he shouldn’t be allowed to have that.

3.It also does seem like Seki kind of thought Kougami as an ideal man(who lives and dies in the battlefield for his honour)but writing team just wanted him to be a regular man(?!)

I know this is the voice actor’s vision and everyone has their own vision of how the charecters should end up being.But all these overwhelming negativity surrounding Kougami’s character is starting to irritate me a bit?It’s constantly about how he should die/obsessed with death.If he wanted to die there’s no reason to bring him back in case 3?What’s the point of him coming back to Japan again?He could have easily died in the 5 years he’s in battlefield,off screen.If he wants to die by Akane’s hands now what’s the point?Except traumatising Akane who’s literally suffered more than anyone in the narrative also respects and looks up to him more than anyone?There’s no glory in this way of death.Like I said everyone is allowed to have their own vision but this isn’t what the story is about.Kougami constantly going around with his obsession with death is repetitive and tiring.Of course they might be postponing his death until the last moment because he’s arguably the most popular character.If death is what’s in store for him he should get killed obscurely.That’s how death is.No grand gestures just obscurity.

First off, I apologise, Anon, for the late response. I’m inactive on Tumblr these days. Also, I haven’t read the interview, I’ll look for it later.

I suppose Seki-san wants to make it as depressing as possible. I don’t agree with his view that Kogami should die, especially at Akane’s hands. If he dies protecting her and she’s unable to do anything, that would be a disrespect to Kogami’s and Akane’s character.

I agree that Kogami is becoming a bit repetitive. From a dynamic character, he’s become very static at least in anime perspective. I believe that his inner evolution is more important now, It would be a nice change if they depicted Kogami’s personal relationships, outside the field of work. We’ve seen the dynamic between Gino and Sugo, but nothing much about Gino and Kogami’s strained dynamic. Akane and Kogami have stuff to sort through as well.

Frankly even I don’t see much of a point if it ends with his death, considering that it would be a weird end, Akane and Gino would blame themselves and it wouldn’t be the same. I think the biggest surprise would be if his Crime Coefficient went back to normal. There are a few lines in PP-Case 3 translated novel (kindly translated by @temporarilyunstable) that captured my heart, and it makes me think Kogami won't die an ignoble death and he’ll make a different choice. Kogami’s purpose in the story that brings him back to where he starts, with Akane and Gino. I believe that Kogami regrets abandoning them, and that is why he’s back to stand by their side and help change the Psycho Pass world.

So, I still have some hope for him ❤️ Sorry, Seki-san, maybe he’s tired of voicing Kogami?

u posted a snippet of a comic where kakashi was coaxing tenzo to take off his anbu mask, i was wondering if u would ever post the full comic? it seems so sad and sweet and id love to have the full context of why tenz was keeping the mask on and why kk was afraid that he was doing so? if not its okay!

AH i'm surprised you remember that!!!! that feels like ages ago...back in may, i think?

i will post the full comic one day, but i have to ink it and muddle through a color palette first! because ive been so busy, i haven't had time to work on it so the pencils are still at 4/12 pages, but i can share with u what i have atm bc it'd be good to refresh my memory too. be warned obviously that like, these are pencils and not a finished, ready-to-consume product, so many things may be unclear! I'll add a little elaboration of my thoughts at the bottom of each one that should hopefully help!

page one. the top of the page and the box right below it are going to be flat black—the implication that Kakashi is speaking into a room which has no source of light. In the second one, Tenzō's pose is unclear, but he's curled up defensively into as tiny of a ball as he can manage, like a pill bug, even his speech bubbles fall along the outside of him, like he's trying to use them as another defense. In the third, we have Kakashi from Tenzō's POV. He's just opened the door, is standing tall and somewhat rigid like he's expecting an attack, taking in the situation. In the fourth and fifth panels, Tenzō sees this, and turns away, becoming deeply embarrassed that he's come to Kakashi for help at all, and that somebody he respects so much is seeing him in such a "pathetic" moment.

This is the panel you referenced—you can see by Kakashi's posture (low to the ground, loose limbs and no longer stiff or anticipating conflict, keeping a distance between he and tenzō) that he's not actually scared, per se. He's approaching Tenzō with the same gentleness that somebody might use in approaching an injured animal. If he's frightened at all, he's frightened for Tenzō's sake, but mostly he says it because he's having a trouble getting a read on the situation when Tenzō is wearing his mask.

It's true that like, as a former root agent, Tenzō is one of the least expressive people in Konoha, but even still, any movement of his face gives Kakashi more context than the cold porcelain of the cat mask, and walking into an unknown situation with a clearly unwell teammate, Kakashi wants as much context as possible so that he doesn't make the situation worse by accident.

Whether Tenzō complies because he doesn't want Kakashi to feel "scared" or simply because he was given a command is unclear at first, but Immediately after, he starts talking about how he's going to have to be re-evaluated for duty, and how hopsital dodging is a serious problem for a shinobi, etc, indicating that he's not really in a space where he can process emotional consequences very well.

I also make a point of not showing his full face during this page, because a full face will generally ask us to relate to the feelings expressed on the face, and I want those feelings to be as hard to read and unsure as they are for Kakashi in that moment, but I couldn't help but show his eyes when he removes the mask.

Top panel is Tenzo responding to Kakashi's command "let me see it," and him stretching his injured arm out for Kakashi to examine. The second panel should have Kakashi's hands gently grasping Tenzō's. Kakashi doesn't go into his space, and instead asks Tenzō to come into his, so that Tenzō can take his time if he needs it.

Idk, with a shinobi that's Going Through It, pushing their boundaries before they're ready is a good way to make their situation worse, or end up with a kunai in ur gut, so it's not something kakashi's gonna do. It's also, not coincidentally, the first panel we see Tenzō's whole face in (though it's still tilted away), and are therefore asked to try and imagine his feelings.

The next panel where he's observing his shaking hands is almost normal, but then the second he goes right back to covering his face with one of those hands and apologizing, stumbling in his attempt to be open. The two blank panels after that should have Kakashi looking directly at Tenzō, and then looking back down at the wound he's inspecting, and giving Tenzō the verdict "You'll be okay." (i know the speech bubble is low there and looks like it's part of the lower Kakashi panel, but I'll fix that in inks).

Then, like a record caught in a scratch, Tenzō just keeps apologizing, like he's forgotten he can do anything else. Kakashi mistakenly assumes it's because Tenzō thinks Kakashi's mad at him (Tenzō does not think this, both because Kakashi is rarely mad at all, and certainly not at him, and because he doesn't have the emotional space or skills in this moment to consider that Kakashi does feel any particular way about this situation)

Kakashi, who is trying his best but sucks at this kind of thing, is getting frustrated with the apologies, and uncomfortable because it feels like they're directed at him, even though they aren't. It's an unbearably uncomfortable position for him to have somebody apologize so profusely, especially somebody he sees as a trusted teammate and friend, and especially for something that's so clearly out of their control. He doesn't want it.

So, frustrated, he redirects. "What happened on this mission to fuck you up this bad?" the only real indicator of his frustration is that in this sentence his language is more coarse, where before he'd been very placatingly careful, and the expression he makes at Tenzō's arm.

He's thinking "well, this sucks and we're not getting anywhere with it, so I'm just going to ask what happened and get it over with."

Then we see Tenzō's full face again as he takes in the question. Around here, when I add color, the page will begin to shift green, and lighter green near the bottom.

Then, as his hair begins to lift, as though it's floating in water, with a blank face Tenzō will say that he doesn't know what happened.

Then, turning to fully face Kakashi (or us, the viewer) for the first time in these four pages he will correct himself, and say "nothing. nothing happened." But he will be green, and much like within the test tube he was raised in, he will be unclothed and his hair will be floating. The first time we're fully asked (by his direct eye contact) to understand and relate to his feelings, he will make it very clear to us the viewer (and Kakashi who is with us, listening to Tenzō say nothing happened when Clearly Something Happened) that the world he's experiencing for the moment is at odds with the body he's sitting in and the room he's sitting in it with, and that's why he's having such an incredibly difficult time processing anything.

HI I DIDNT FORGET THIS ok i kind of did temporarily my bad

when I started shipping it if I did: I already thought Tenzing was a super cool dude and was entertained by him and Will going from bitchily poking at each other with the most aggressively passive aggressive manners to making mutual promises of “hey youre actually cool, I’ll stop being a dick if you stop being a dick” after one late night sewer chase. Then Tenzing motherfuckin Tharkay just showed up with 20 feral dragons that he went halfway across the continent and back for just so he could have his shining moment of leaning all suave against the wall behind Will going “Heard you needed some dragons” like the coolest fuckin mcCool kid to every try and look extra cool in front of their crush and I had to put the book down and just take a moment to process it. my thoughts: God I do love me some “majestic heroic type with more bullheaded honor than common sense” paired with “the sarcastic and more chaotically good guy rolling their eyes and kinda mad at themselves for being so into this heroic dipshit.” What makes me happy about them: Watching them be the two stoic and snarky twits who can communicate almost entirely with raised eyebrows and ten layers of meanings hidden in dry commentary. Tenzing seems to just get Will more than almost any other character and visa versa. Tenzing being the guy who is consistently able to get Will out of his own head with just a couple words??? Fucking incredible. And there was a bit where Will notes that with Tenzing you gotta pay attention to what’s unsaid as much as what is said, and he is then able to acknowledge the unsaid bits with just like...the smallest gesture that Tenzing then returns in this damn intricate ritual of them both being SO BAD at expressing themselves but SO GOOD at knowing how to work around that with each other. I also find it really really funny to imagine Tenzing from the START was needling at Will partially because “fuck this British gentleman” and also “fuck this asshole who is too hot i hate how hot he is” and then that moment in Istanbul where Tenzing realizes Will is a legit good dude and all the honor shit is not a show or front and he’s just like “oh no” from then on out. What makes me sad about them: Besides the personal angst bits that each of them has just as characters the pairing itself is all good. They go and become “””roommates””” and probably spend a hilarious amount of time dancing around each others piles of baggage and emotional walls until the tension in that manor is nearly obscene. things done in fanfic that annoys me: Gotta be real with yall, I have not read fanfic for this but always want recs things I look for in fanfic: tbh I want William Lawrence’s Bisexual Panic but make it Funny and Not Angsty Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: no one on earth can blame Will if he ever decided to embrace a life of being Admiral Jane Rowlands personal beefcake. My happily ever after for them: they GOT IT BABEY who is the big spoon/little spoon: Will is a cuddler (when there are no outside witnesses to see such a display or emotion) and cuddling Tenzing is like trying to hug a cat. Sometimes the cat is into it and will quietly accept it while pretending they are not affected, sometimes the cat is gonna squirm around clawing at the wall trying to ooze away. And not cuddling related exactly but oh man the way he is so verbally affectionate with Temeraire makes me think that Will is a “my darling” sort and I don’t think Tenzing is prepared to process that and it would be hilarious. what is their favorite non-sexual activity: arguing about politics and going on last minute poorly thought out adventures

Frederica and Homura as potential love interests?

Ok, before writing this post, I must admit that this thought has been wandering in my mind for some time and I will do my best to be as analytical as I can in the explanation. First of all, I've truly and wholeheartedly supported Shinkane since season 1 and I am sure that before or after, they will be endgame (in Psycho Pass' meaning, well... offscreen if we're lucky enough), so this post is just an attempt to see what is happening.

Let's make a premise: PP3, among all the seasons of PP, is the one that addressed romance in a more evident way, somehow. Not that it is a priority and it's fair as it is, since the focus of the series is basically human nature and its reaction to a world dominated by AI, but among the three seasons, PP3 caressed the topic. Not that it wasn't already addressed in the previous installments (Shion and Yayoi, Kaori's wedding, Akane's growing fascination, and not-so-well-hidden attraction and love for Kougami, Mika and her schoolmate, just to say), but starting with Sinners of the System, something else happened. Masaoka and Sae, Sugo and his friend's wife (tell me whatever, but he seemed to care a little bit too much and I found something similar in Arata's behavior towards Maiko)... and in season 3, the already mentioned Arata, both with Maiko (the hospital scene) and Karina, but also with Irie and Mao (I loved the whole music box scene) and Mao *not-so-well-hidden* fancying Kei. Did I mention the brief and glorious Shinkane's scenes? The cherry blossoms in First Inspector screamed "LOVE" in caps lock.

Well, ladies first, so let's talk about the mysterious and glamorous agent of the SAD: Hanashiro Frederica. When her character was revealed, all of us (or at least, the majority) thought that she could be a potential threat or a possible enemy. So far, it seems that apart from bigger fanservice than all the girls in PP, a still-secret agenda, and the fact that she managed to recruit Kougami, Gino and Sugo in her team (as well as granting them some privileges), there isn't any evidence that she could be an enemy. Yes, the whole Ministry of Foreign Affairs/SAD goals and mission aren't clear, that's why I hope we might get PP4 or a dedicated special, in order to understand more about them and her apparently personal motivations too. Now... thanks to the lovely @kumapillow who kindly translated the SAD extra chapter, something made me wonder. I already said in another post that Frederica seems to have a soft spot for Kougami. Just a few words about Kougami. So far, with the exception of the novels, where his feelings are clearer, he's never shown particular interest in women (or relationships in general). In the profiling book, it's said that he doesn't remember his first love, but it's also said that he would let Sybil choose for him once the time comes, until the movie updated version when it's said that his favorite type of girl is a companion who can keep up a conversation. Considering that in season 1 he was revenge-driven and Makishima-absorbed, romance was practically out of question (also, if we consider that he's been a workaholic since he was an Inspector, I'm not this impressed if he never had a proper relationship). Complete silence in season 2, then in the movies he said that wherever he goes, he's punctually involved in some conflict, aka... no time for romance again (for ghost!Makishima's joy). I read sometimes that the fact that he declined Shion's advances in episode 18 with the sentence "I don't think we are each others' type" was eloquent about his sexuality, since he probably is gay or bi, at least. I don't think he is, but simply, being the kind person he is, Kougami just found a colloquial way to remember Shion where her heart truly laid (and in the novel, it's more obvious). No surprise, during the fight against Rutaganda, when the mercenary said that listening to Kougami made him happy like he was listening to some Wagner's piéce, Kougami promptly answers that he could have rather listened to those words from a glamorous beauty than from him (he used the word "bijin" there). I won't mention all the Shinkane subtle of the movie, but it was truly obvious how things had changed for Akane and Kougami and what could have been happened if the mercenaries hadn't come. Case 3 shows that his relationship with the fair sex still hasn't progressed this much... though I LOVED Kougami's interactions with Tenzing and the teasing of the little girl who said that he reminded her of her dad (ok, that's progress, since in a radio drama both he and Gino made a small child crying because of their idiocy) and I headcanon that in the years past Case 3 Kou had some chances to hear back from Tenzing (because of MoFA and Frederica's care), when it comes to the blonde colleague... I guess that things haven't changed this much. Now, so far, Kougami has NEVER shown any sign of reciprocating Frederica's possible feelings, but it seems that he's the only one who knows how to cheer her up or to understand her. Coming back to Frederica, after this digression, that's the core: she technically has all the qualities Kougami would possibly need. She's a glamorous beauty (hello there, reference to the gekijouban). She's a companion who could keep up a conversation. This point is trickier, because the conversation under the moonlight (now that it comes to my mind, it was also said that if he ever had to set a date, he would probably talk about work or taking somebody to stargaze), which largely reminds me of his conversation with Akane in the movie (I'm talking about the structure of the scene in general), shows that

Frederica too is perfectly able to lecture Kougami and pull the shits out of him about his true motives for keeping on traveling, she's been interested in him since the lessons with professor Saiga, but also... the fact that she mentioned his mother, I think was some kind of a rehash of the novel version of the conversation between Akane and Kou. I was under the impression that Ubukata and Shiotani were trying to test the waters... Also, Frederica is a skilled fighter, she has a no-nonsense attitude and she's pretty harsh in what she says, but she's also friendly, humorous, and caring (the days they spent together with Tenzing). Then the renowned scene of the two of them making the deal... ok, I need to admit that in the beginning, I didn't see it as malicious, neither I do it now, but... mhhh... sharing the same bottle of water to make a deal... well... kinda intimate, right? Not that Kougami made a fuss, but Frederica was... pleased? After all, she didn't do any of this with Sugo (also, her approach to him was more formal) and we still don't know how she recruited Gino (I think it happened because of Kougami, after Akane's demotion)... I don't know, but it seems to me that her approach toward Kougami (at least in Case 3 and in the manga extras) is more personal... after all, when she approached him the first time, she was quite intrigued, since she wanted to take a look at the face of a celebrity like him (all said while pleasantly smiling). The extra chapter shows that while Gino and Sugo's efforts to help their chief were wasted (not for us who read), only Kougami's proposal was well received by her. Shooting like in a guerrilla field... after all, Frederica is a tough one (just like Akane) and Kougami knows it very well... like Gino adds at the end, she's definitely a female version of him, but she also is somebody able to kick Kou's glorious ass (just like Akane). Now, time will say where the truth is, but I feel like that if Ubukata and Shiotani keep on following the route "there's a deep respect and a bond which goes beyond love and romance between Shinkane... and also Kougami doesn't see Akane in that way", and instead they choose to spice things up (but I don't think so) Frederica might be the one chosen. Luckily enough, our dear former Enforcer seems to have chosen the celibate warrior monk route, but I'm still sure that things can change and in the end, the most natural outcome will be Shinkane. Well... since the post has become longer than I expected, I'll write another time of Shizuka and Akane, but thanks for reading until now!

list of my anti-LoK feelings

Excluding the Gaang’s treatment and trying to be spoiler free so that i can tell my brother about this, let’s go:

oh no it got long

none of this is in chronological order

- Poor mishandling of the concepts/conflicts (the Equalists being led by a bender)

- K/ya and Bum/i being treated poorly by the Air Acolytes simply because they aren’t airbenders

- Bloodbending being the only bending subset art that’s demonized (meanwhile lightningbending gets to power Republic City)

- Harmonic Convergence - just random people getting airbending instead of people discovering they have airbending because Air Nomads are nomads and are likely to have descendants everywhere and it’s quite possible that the reason why Air Nomads are the only nation with a population that’s made up of 100% benders is because they gave nonbending children away to other nations, those kids carry on the genes but noooo it’s the most spiritual art or some random bs.

- the name of Republic City - whyyyyyyy you could’ve named it the People’s City in Chinese or something

- Bu/mi getting airbending and apologizing to a statue of his dad for not being enough

- Te/nzin being the only Cloud kid with a family - because apparently airbending can only be passed down if there’s an airbending parent instead of bending being a wheel spin, coin toss, and draw of the hat chance combined with genetics so both Bumi and Kya could’ve had kids,,,but they didn’t.

- “There’s LGBTQ+ rep!!!” yeah one of them is in the Fog of Lost Souls and a terrible person, Ky/a’s sexuality was confirmed in a comic that a good majority of the fandom doesn’t read bc the ATLA comics are notoriously abysmal, while Korra and Asami were shoved in last minute

- Kor/rasa/mi being shoved in last minute and that’s not because Nickolodean wouldn’t let Br/yke do it, they literally had no endgame ship until the last minute.

- the Spirit portals. Ah yes, make the Spirit World more accessible and make the Northern Water Tribe have an easy way to invade the Southern Water Tribe

- Water Tribe War of Why Would the North Want the South Except for an Ego Boost - oh stars i could write an essay on this: first of all there’s no reason for the two to unite - they’re on opposite ends of the world, two nations are between the two tribes so the constant travel between the two tribes is just too much. Secondly, we don’t do colonization in this household but apparently the North wanted to be like So/zin-Azul/on-O/zai’s Fire Nation. Thirdly: why. just why.

- The Western fashions and architecture - why is there a big ol’ statue of Aang in Republic City waters a la Statue of Liberty style -_- and why is there Western fashion asfjakjfkdj give me qipaos and i’ll shut up about it. (literally if everyone was wearing a qipao to be fancy i would give LoK less grief except for like “kind of boring but at least you tried”)

- As/ami is treated as a side character instead of one of the main four because she’s “Not a bender” (being removed from major fight scenes)

- Asa/mi being everyone’s emotional support and no one gives support back (sounds like someone we know...coughkataracough)

- non-benders having their roles being downplayed, and I don’t mean the Equalists being scary and then poofing out of existence after the first season. Benders get to be in all the action, but non-benders are mainly left out and only brought in to prop up the benders

- immemorable/bad lines/immemorable characters (I can’t remember who was in what spot lol)

- the Spirit World looking more like Spirited Away rather than what it originally was (someone drew a bunch of Spirited Away LoK AU and I thought it was a bunch of Spirited Away screencaps until I saw little kid!Ko/rra and was like “????”)

- “spirits should live in harmony with humans” - world proceeds to get invaded with “spirit vines” along with ATLA fans going “wait what about spirits like Koh the Face-Stealer or an angry Hei Bai”

- non-con kisses. love triangles. didn’t need that but okay

- WHO PUT A WESTERN WEDDING IN AN ASIAN WORLD. WHY ARE YOU WEARING WHITE. DID SOMEONE DIE.

- wait i just looked up the screenshots for that wedding and now i’m mad again

- WHY IS THERE A EUROPEAN DRESS HERE. GET THIS OUT OF HERE BEFORE I CRACK MY KNUCKLES AND REDESIGN A WHOLE DRESS FOR Z/HU LI

- I do not care if they’re Water Tribe. This world was inspired by China, we’re applying the full-on white outfit = mourning color to all nations because I can and I will do that.

- relationships having drama and I mean the type of drama that makes you groan and turn off the TV

- Bo/leska being played for laughs (switch the genders and this whole ship is a nightmare upon nightmare)

- Tenzi/n looking like an A/ang clone and doesn’t even have a hint of anything to suggest he’s half SWT - would it have killed the designers to give him Water Tribe arm wrappings????

- okay I said i wasn’t going to talk about the Gaang but I’m talking about Tenz/in so whatever. anyways neither T/enzin nor any of his kids look like they have SWT heritage and like. skin color can skip a generation and get into another. One of the Cloud grandkids could at least be a little tan instead of the entire family being the same skin tone. Ik/ki could’ve had hair loopies. Me/elo could’ve had a SWT name, and R/ohan could’ve been a waterbender.

- Ko/rra going to confront Zah/eer with Mak/o, everyone thinks that because Ma/ko was with her for a very emotional time that they’re probably going to get together because that makes sense, right? Heck, both of them are there for each other in the Big Emotional Scenes.

- The framing of the K/orra-Za/heer confrontation - Zahee/r is higher than her/is equal to her height, visually symbolizing that he still has power over her. This is very different from TSR where Ka/tara faces down her demon (Y/on Rha), all cards are in her hands, he’s sitting on the ground while she’s standing tall.
