Hii, do you write fanfics about empress elisabeth from the series sisi?

Strictly speaking none (yet), but also yes (after a fashion).

In what probably seems like some over-splitting of hairs, all of my Elisabeth fics are all in the Elisabeth das Musical fandom right now, rather than in the Sisi (2021) series fandom. So Tod (Death) is running around in my fics as he is a major character in the musical.

I usually write Rudolf as the main character, but as one would expect Sisi does show up from time to time.

In the fic Smoking Mirror I did write Sisi's POV as chapter 1 to contrast with Rudolf's POV in chapters 2-5.

In my Mirrorverse, Sisi doesn't show up until Part 10, but after that does make pretty regular appearances, including two fics that are from her POV. Addendum: Elisabeth, Part the First and Addendum: Elisabeth, Part the Second.

For upcoming projects, I am going to write a fic that I will be tagging as in the Sisi (2021) fandom, though it will be more Franz-Josef centric (I anticipate it being his POV). That being said, Sisi will certainly be showing up pretty regularly there. She will be somewhat OOC compared to the series - I find that (especially in the first season, which is all I have access to) Sisi's portrayal is too sanitized and too modern. That is one of the things I will be changing for the fic. I like vaguely evil characters and FJ certainly has his vaguely evil moments in the series

I just recently started following you so i don't have the full lore of your murderous gay religiously traumatized doggos, BUT, from my understanding, they are Italian and i don't know what part of Italy they are from, yet i can't help headcanoning Vasco as Tuscan, while Machete is probably from some part of Veneto. And as an Italian who has heard Tuscans and Veneto dialet, well it's an hilarious mental image.

Vasco is indeed Tuscan, Florentine to be specific. He comes from a wealthy and influential noble family that has lived in Florence for centuries. He's proud of his roots, and it's usually easy for strangers to tell where he's from. He's a resonably successful politician and has worked as an ambassador and representative of Florence on numerous occasions.

Machete is originally Sicilian (ironically about as far from Veneto as possible), although he was taken to mainland at young age and has lived in several places since then, before ending up in Rome. The way I see it, he exhibits very little local color, his demeanor and (even though Italian hadn't become a standardized language yet) way of speaking are formal, neutral and scarcely give away any hints about his personal history, at least in the 16th century canon.

#I tend to take the easy way out with the various Italian dialects/languages and temper their effect on how the dog world works #even though to my understanding in reality they differ drastically from each other even today and they aren't always mutually intelligible #especially when you compare northern and southern ones #I know at least Sicilian is so different from modern day Italian it's considered a separate language entirely #it isn't the only one but I'm not a linguist and not even Italian so I'm not really qualified to be explaining any of this to you #main point is that my dogs are well traveled educated and adaptable so I'd like to believe that they manage #otherwise making this whole scenario work would become very complicated #language barriers aplenty #Machete is a fast learner with a natural knack for languages so he absorbs/decodes new ones easily #and I can see him acting as an interpreter if necessary #which is a valuable trait for someone working as the secretary of state I'd imagine #a lot of people he ends up dealing with speak at least passable Latin so at a pinch they might perhaps try switching to that? #Vasco might have a Tuscan flavor but Machete is more of a blank slate (at least in public and at work) #answered #fallenoftheromaempire #feel free to correct me if I've gotten something wrong I'm not an expert and this stuff is complicated for an outsider

Question regarding mutual intelligibility in writing: Japanese and Chinese

Hello hello! For a thing I’m writing, I have a question for speakers/readers of Chinese and Japanese, which I hope someone will be able to answer. 

I know that Japanese kanji, for the most part, have the same or similar meanings to the same characters used to write in Chinese. Is there much, if any, mutual intelligibility in reading them? If I have a character who is a native Japanese speaker/reader, would they be able to, say, read internet forums in Chinese and understand them, even though they don’t speak the Chinese language themself? I mean obviously they would pronounce the characters the Japanese way, but would they be able to understand the meaning? I’m curious, because I know Japanese tends to mix in hiragana and katakana with kanji instead of strictly using kanji, while (I think?) Chinese just uses the character system and doesn’t have a phonetic alphabet. (If I’m wrong please tell me! I studied Japanese for a few years in high school over a decade ago, and I don’t really know much about Chinese language and writing.)

I’d greatly appreciate it if anyone has an answer! I’m a native English speaker/reader, and I don’t know very much about character based writing systems as opposed to phonetic writing systems, so while this seems theoretically like something that could be possible to me, it it’s not, I’d like to know before I include it in my writing and make a fool of myself!

No but the elven languages in WoW are such autism materials. Thinking about the relationship between Thalassian/Darnassian/Shalassian. How Shalassian is probably a very archaic dialect of Thalassian. How there are probably so many Thalassian dialects. How it's canon that Thalassian and Darnassian are so similar that they are sometimes mutually intelligible but the massive cultural difference makes it offensive for one to be confused for the other. Can any body hear me.

My biggest pet peeve in language learning circles is and always has been when people call Mandarin "Chinese" even though there is not one Chinese language but rather many different Chinese languages (plural! china is linguistically quite diverse), and "Mandarin" 官話 is actually considered its own language family with even more dialects under it and not just one language. I think accuracy matters when talking about what languages you're studying

Anyone have any thoughts on the ethics of using AI as an Autistic person? I'm against giving corporations data as much as I can help it, but also, I'm disabled and it's really helpful. OH my god. they canonically speak forgotten realms common in ravenloft. of course they do, why wouldn't they. there are > 5 domains whose rulers originally hail from Faerûn specifically and they all share the same dominant spoken language between them. that's. the common language of faerun. Vaasi is, to be sure, the most bogwild bugfuck dialect of FR common it's probably possible to encounter, but it IS a dialect of common. out of my gourd over here that I had to, for the sake of making my campaign actually playable, handwave a mystical translation convention to explain why my player characters were all mysteriously fluent in Balok despite Barovia originating in a prime material nobody's ever even HEARD of and meanwhile two of my pcs are literally from the sword coast. they could have landed in Kartakass or Nova Vaasa or something and it would have not even been a thing. fuck
