#and ditto for fandoms i've written for
Reasons why Spop is one of the worst fandoms:   The 50,000th person complains about the writing, the last-season characterization and oh, noes, ships becoming canon or near-canon that they do not agree with!!!   Someone comes along to defend some of the writing, express a general chill-ness with the ships, but also a chill-ness with people not being into the ships / happiness with alternate ships, to give their own view on what they saw without condemning the OP, just “hey, I see a little difference here.” - along with one’s own complaints about the series writing, but, you know, just friendly giving of opinion as a fellow fan.   Blocked.  I was apparently immediately blocked.  No discussion, no rebuttal.  I wasn’t attacking anyone, I was just opining.   Then again, this is the fandom of “If you like or defend character X whom I don’t like in any way, you’re a bad person who does bad things and I hate you,” fandom.  Meanwhile, I’ve poked into discussions on the Trigun tag and have seen “Analysis of the complex relationship between the protagonist and antagonist as well their relationship with their adoptive mother” and someone comes along to give their own opinion, a little dissenting, respectful, but just how they see it, and the response is “Oh, I never saw that! This makes so much sense!  I still disagree on this point, but thank you!”     *Points to something I said earlier on this blog about better overall fandoms and how I’m glad I’m gravitating more toward them and out of this one.*

AO3 Tag Game!
Tagged by @mvshortcut :) I'm gonna stick with just this fandom/this account for this one to make it less confusing
How many works do you have on AO3?
44. (Including snippet collections.) For this fandom/account. Far more if you count bi-demon-ium or my old account or my older account or
What’s your total AO3 word count?
Okay this one it won't let me separate by pseud or fandom so you're just gonna have to live with being lumped in with all my MBS and a few other misc fics at "653,461". Didn't get the other accounts though. Man, I'm a mess
How many fandoms have you written for, and what are they?
Okay, well, this one by nature is also not solely for this fandom,
(number in parentheses is number of ao3 works posted)
Ted Lasso (obviously) (44) (including snippet collections)
The Mysterious Benedict Society (116) (also including snippet collections)
Instinct (2) (one is a small snippet collection--)
House MD (1)
Death by Dying (1)
Gravity Falls, technically, but it was one crossover (1)
ditto with The Legend of Zelda (1)
King Falls AM (1)
The House in the Cerulean Sea (6)
Shadowhunters (??? at least 36) (some now hidden/lost)
Professor Layton (1)
The Librarians (2)
The Sandman (1)
The Mentalist (2)
Star Trek (AOS) (1)
Sanders Sides (at least 1)
Miraculous Ladybug (1)
Rosewell: New Mexico (2)
The Dresden Files (1)
That's stuff posted to ao3/finished. There's also, technically,
for stuff I published when I was twelve and I now refuse to acknowledge (not all bc of the fandom but bc the fic was Bad):
Doctor Who
Supernatural
Sherlock
Psych
Castle
Welcome to Night Vale
Avengers
A Series of Unfortunate Events
And then stuff I've written for but never finished:
Warehouse 13
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (2016)
Dirk Gently (2010)
SurrealEstate
Zoo (podcast)
Once Upon a Time
Scooby Doo
Person of Interest
The Goes Wrong Show
Spy Kids (???)
Ace Attorney
The Adventure Zone
Criminal Minds
Star Trek (TOS, TNG, and DS9)
Haven
MacGyver
Trollhunters
exactly one (1) joke The Magnus Archives fic
Percy Jackson and the Olympians + The Kane Chronicles + Tales of Apollo
Leverage
Pushing Daisies
The Sarah Jane Adventures
Megamind
Bones
Avatar: the Last Airbender
Lucifer
Some of these are deeply questionable and/or only have like two (2) wips or even posted works at most, but I'm thorough. Also, I will write about almost anything bc my brain loves to process things like this. I may have even missed something
Top five fics by kudos:
Ted Lasso Kisses Trent Crimm On The Mouth (1125)
semaphore (977)
off the handle (719)
linger (699) (nice)
a preacher, a bikini, and a kiss or two (641)
Do you respond to comments?
I really try to, but then I get all in my head about it and/or am really really tired and put it off so long it then feels like it would be weird to respond because it's been forever. However, if there's a direct question or something I want to address/respond to, as in, I have something particularly unique to say or a question to answer, then I'll usually respond really fast
What’s the fic with the angstiest ending you’ve ever written?
Honestly, I'm not a huge unhappy ending person, a lot of the time I'll have a first chapter I was initially going to end really angsty (see ink sunset and make a mess of you) and then added more to fix it at least somewhat. As is... maybe the somewhat unresolved emotional tension (for Ted and Trent, at least, Roy's doing great) in something to get off my chest, the +1 for betrayal's sting / absolution's balm? I have some worse ones in an old fandom on an old account but. meh.
Do you write crossovers?
Not often, but I rotate them in my brain. Honestly, though, I'm more inclined to write a fusion than a crossover proper. And even so, I tend to just be thinking about it rather than actually writing it. I've only written one crossover in recent memory (recently, that is) and it was mostly a joke about a shared actress made into actual angst.
Have you ever gotten hate on a fic?
Yeah lmao
Do you write smut?
😏 sure do
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
👁️👁️ not in this fandom
Have you ever had a fic translated?
yes!! also not in this fandom
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
In this fandom? Trent/Ted. overall? no idea, because recency bias, my all-time favorite is whatever I'm into right now, which isn't really objective but hyperfixationitis.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?
:( so many. AND there are a lot of posted fics I want to write a sequel/companion piece for and idk if I'll ever get the energy...
I guess off the top of my head, for this fandom, I'd go with lost sight of (who you are) (motivation died because it's old enough no one knows it exists anymore lkfgjh) and ink sunset (I WANNA FINISH IT I DO I DO I DO)
What are your writing strengths?
I think I can write a really funny string of dialogue, and I'm also fond of fun metaphors, both in the elegant poetic way and in the more Douglas Adams/Terry Pratchett way (which is to say, still potentially elegant but also comedic as hell)
What are your writing weaknesses?
Motivating myself to write anything; being overly self-indulgent
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fics?
I'm extremely bad at linguistics in general, so if I must include someone talking in another language in my fic, I think I'd tend to cheat and do italics or some other indication that this is 'in another language' (ie "Where are you going?" she asked in Russian), but that's admittedly a lazy approach. But I also think it's probably better than butchering it with an auto-translator? Also, when people just include the translation in the end notes, even with a link (although that makes it marginally better) it breaks the flow of the story and makes it hard to read. Making an effort to at least match grammar is good (which I would do if it was for longer than a single scene, probably) but I think the best solution is when people know what they're doing and like, have an actual translation with a little html code so you can click on it and it reveals what it means? Or if you're clever, revealing what it means using context around it, but that has its own limitations. So that both like, uses the actual language and doesn't break up the flow. It balances accessibility, flow, and respect for the other language in question well. But you've got to both know what you're doing with the language (either asking someone/hiring someone/knowing the language yourself) and the html (although there are guides for that you'd have to spend time figuring it out + know it exists in the first place to look). And this is fanfiction, something we ultimately do for free in our spare time, so the lazy approach, I think, can be understandable. Maybe not in every context, but it's not worth stressing a lot over in a few random lines or anything, you know? It is really cool when people do know a language well enough to include it properly in a fic, though, it can say a lot about a character or dynamic; and their background(s) and like. it's neat :)
What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
Ever? Doctor Who. In a shitty little notebook in middle school. Then there was some Star Trek (both TNG and TOS) and Avatar: the Last Airbender and Marvel and such, and then Supernatural (my first smut? extremely terrible Destiel smut. rip) and I think the first thing I ever posted was Welcome to Night Vale? Not sure.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written so far?
Oh, man. I have no idea. Here's a few favorites from this fandom:
matters of the heart
trick & treat
vita nova
melt like this
"second impressions"
"reveal"
probably those time travel snippets, just in general

Note
Do you have any mlm or wlw fiction books that you loved? What are your personal favorite fics that you've written? Sorry for the double ask, feel free if you want to answer both or either one....
MLM and WLW fiction I have loved: Too many to list here! Recently, I read The Fiancee Farce by Alexandria Bellefleur, which is sweet as anything and sapphic. I also keep trying to shove The Devotion of Delflenor by R. Cooper at people, maybe you'll take me up on that, sapphic lady knights. Freya Marske, Tamsyn Muir, and Felicia Davin have all written queer SFF that I've enjoyed. If you want to keep up with what I'm reading, a decent amount of which is some flavor of queer, I do reading roundup posts on my dreamwidth whenever I've read ten books, usually a bit less than a month between posts.
My favorite fics of mine: It's hard to say, because I like to hope that I am continually improving, which means the more recent a fic is the more I tend to like it! But Silence Is the Speech of Love (Les Mis, 50k) and You Dance Dreams (Les Mis, 60k) are perennial favorites. Anything under "Fairy Tales & Related Fandoms" on my AO3 dashboard is probably pretty good, and ditto my D&D campaign fic, though I know that's a harder sell.

Twenty Questions
Thank you @cupofteaandstars for the tag!
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 16, plus a Spanish translation a friend did of one of my works.
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 73,165, for now.
What fandoms do you write for? Exclusively Stranger/Secret Forest and related crossovers, although there was that one Andor one that I just had to put out there to cope with the intensity of my feelings about the cliffhanger season ending.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
It's a close race among some of these, but:
gamsa
chilyo
chib
heonsin
haengbok (with maengse only one behind at the moment)
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I do, always! I'm honestly always so astounded and delighted to think of someone reading my work while I'm just out here having a normal Monday or Tuesday, and want to express that delight.
What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oh boy, just you wait.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Since all things Si-mok and Yeo-jin related (or Stranger-in-general-related) are usually bittersweet, probably inyeon, a relatively recent one. However, the one that leaves me with the warmest feeling at the end is actually pyeongsaeng.
Do you get hate on fics?
Fortunately not! I've gotten a few weird comments once or twice but nothing mean-spirited.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do not, and the few times I've been tempted I have realized swiftly that I'm not cut out for it.
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Only within the Stranger/SF multiverse so far - in other words, AUs for Stranger/SF that are based on Bae Doona and CSW's other works, which I think of as other lives of Si-mok and Yeo-jin.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Ditto Cup, not that I know of. I would go absolutely off-the-charts feral in order to get the copycat fic taken down.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have! My IRL best friend of many years graciously wrote me a Spanish translation of chib.
What's your all-time favorite ship?
Eh, I'm not really a shipper...? HOWEVER, @ohyangchon has given me massive Changjae feelings and I love their relationship so much.
What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Scenes just sort of seem to come to me, and once they're there I don't stop until they eventually coalesce into a complete story, no matter how long that takes to find its shape. I do have an extensively Yeo-jin and Si-mok inspired novel (low-key sci-fi? space opera?) that has been nagging at me for years, but I don't think that one will ever amount to anything.
What are your writing strengths?
I'd like to think I inhabit the voices of the characters well.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Pacing, probably?
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Similar to Cup's thoughts, this is difficult because I feel like sometimes names, titles, and terms of address in particular just don't have the same nuance and feeling translated from Korean into English-- especially the terms of address that Si-mok and Yeo-jin and others use for each other. Therefore, sometimes I do transliterate. Also, as I become a little bit more comfortable IRL speaking Korean, where practical I sometimes find myself wanting to mimic the Korean clause order/speech patterns of sentences even while writing in English.
First fandom you wrote for?
I think it must have been a gift fic in the Redwall fandom (never made it to AO3, but a cozy and comforting thing to work on)
Favorite fic you've written?
I love all my children equally!!! But I do think I did some really great character work in bohoja, one of my works on a more underrated duo (Si-mok and Mr. Kang). I usually am pretty self-critical, but there are a few lines in there that I always read and think "damn, who wrote that???" XD
Who hasn't been spoken for? Tagging @gottagobuycheese, @inkingtwice, and @michyeosseo as well as anyone else who's interested!

20 questions for fic writers
Thank you @rocketnebulas for tagging me!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
That would be 158!
2. What’s your total word count?
Uhhhhh 1,905,572. Ahah.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Recently and actively, Stranger Things and The Lost Boys. I've also been reasonably prolific for Gravity Falls and Rise of the Guardians.
4. Top 5 fics by kudos
This actually surprised me! Duskfall (a Bella/Tanya Twilight AU) is top of this list. And then the rest are more in line with what I expected: Raising Stakes (Gravity Falls vampire!Stan AU), Return, Rewind, Rewrite (Gravity Falls Transcendence AU), Reincarnation Blues (also Gravity Falls Transcendence AU), and A Semi-Normal Life (ditto).
5. Do you respond to comments?
Most of 'em, eventually.
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I think that's gotta go to this one, where everybody's dead but the main character, who thinks it's his fault. I don't write a lot of angsty non-ambiguous endings, but this one's pretty explicit that things Do Not Improve from here.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Uhhhhhhh. Hm.
Actually, it might be Hive! Which is a weird thing to say about a horror story, and yet.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Thankfully I haven't! Although I did once get a tumblr ask trying to gotcha me for writing Jack Frost/Pitch Black, which was extremely funny, because 1) that ship is between two several-hundred-year-old immortals who tried very hard to kill each other for the entire movie and this person was concerned because they thought there might be an age gap between them, and 2) I had written that ship exactly once, at least five years prior to receiving the ask, as a favour for a friend.
9. Do you write smut?
Verrrrrrry occasionally.
10. Do you write crossovers?
There's a reason my profile on AO3 includes the line "I was born with the gift of crossover femslash and I intend to make it everyone's problem."
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Only, as far as I know, by the usual AO3-scraping suspects. Although someone did once rewrite a fairly unique AU of mine from a different character's perspective, using almost all the same plot points, and didn't breathe a word that it had been inspired by my fic or that my fic even existed, which, like. Man, I'm glad you wrote that thing and felt good enough about it to share it, but also a little bit what the fuck.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
A few times! It's always an honour.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Exactly once. Wouldn't do it again unless the stars aligned absolutely perfectly.
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
That's a trick question and one that I will not be answering at this time.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?
I am going to finish Something Borrowed, Something Blues, so I guess that doesn't count. Uhhhh it would have been nice to finish Imbalance, but I just didn't have as much of a plan for it as I thought I had, and the more time passes the poorer taste the plan I did have seems to be in.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Personally, I think that characterisation is the big one. I can pull together a plot that makes sense and has an emotionally satisfying conclusion. I'm very happy with the way I write suspense/tension. And I've had a couple people now tell me that I do a good job of being descriptive without the description getting in the way, which I'm very proud about.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Pacing! Action scenes! The Dreaded Middle! Not overusing italics!
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?
I've done it, like, twice and I had to use Google Translate because I didn't speak the language and I felt so dirty. For anything more than a word or two, I'd personally either describe the character talking without actually writing out what they're saying (if the POV character doesn't understand what they're saying) or write out/paraphrase the dialogue in English (if the POV character is the speaker/if the POV character does understand what the speaking character is saying).
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Wrote for was probably Pokemon, wayyyyyyyyy back in elementary school. Posted was the Hugh Jackman-Kate Beckinsale fever dream Van Helsing. Thankfully I think that one is lost amongst the ruins of ff.net.
20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?
It's still the road goes ever on. It's gonna be the road goes ever on for, like, a while.
I'm going to tag @gretchensinister, @tejoxys, @amethystunarmed, @seiya234, @marzipanandminutiae, @bixxelated, @daddygrandpaandthebeaver, @enquiringangel, @astriiformes, @scribefindegil, @mickeymagpie, and anybody else who'd like to give this a shot!

Have you ever had a fic stolen?
👁️👁️ not. Directly in this fandom
Have you ever had a fic translated?
yes!! also not in this fandom
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
In this fandom? Nicholas/Milligan. Overall, ever? Recency bias/hyperfixationitis says whatever I'm into the most at the moment. But generally for MBS I prefer gen (although I've written a lot of Nicholas/Milligan, that's partially because it's blissfully easier to find gen already)
What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?
:(
SO many
Particularly minotaur, the dearly departed, and the "paralyzed" series. Oh and the hanahaki AU
What are your writing strengths?
I think I can write a really funny string of dialogue, and I'm also fond of fun metaphors, both in the elegant poetic way and in the more Douglas Adams/Terry Pratchett way (which is to say, still potentially elegant but also comedic as hell)

Thank you, @tortoisesshells for the kind tag! Sorry for the delay in responding-- work conference, Covid recovery, band geek mom triple threat.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
845. You read that correctly. Several proper drabbles and at least two co-authored fics, including the Mansion House Murder Hotel round robin.
2. What's your total A03 words count?
1,453,769. Again, that includes some co-written fic I am not inclined to parse for my exact count.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Mercy Street, Foyle's War, Shadow and Bone, Poldark, A Discovery of Witches, Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, The Last of Us, GLOW, Downton Abbey, Frozen, James Bond, Star Wars, The Hour, Ted Lasso, Sanditon, Dune, Leap/Ballerina, Brooklyn 99, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Gilmore Girls, Far From The Madding Crowd, Emma, Betsy-Tacy, and a few others.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
"what it is to be a thin crescent moon" (SAB), "A Wife--at daybreak I shall be" (AOGG), "Point and Click" (SAB, modern AU), "Bear with the truths I would tell you now," (Emma), "The subtlest fold of the heart" (AOGG)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I do. At a bare minimum, I try to thank the commenter for taking the time to read. In the halcyon days of Mercy Street, I wrote long, discursive essay-comments because that was our vibe. I am not always prompt, but I do try to get back to people, though sometimes if the comment is very thoughtful, it takes me a while because I want to give an equivalent response.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably "Because I could not stop for Death," a Mercy Street fic where I wrote vignettes where I killed someone in each of the 18 installments, though I did end the whole thing killing the agreed-upon most loathsome character. I don't tend to write fics with angsty endings, though I don't mind writing it midway.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
This is tough, because I mostly write HEA. I'm going to pick a relatively deep cut and say "Always a Bridesmaid," the Mercy Street modern au rom-com, since the whole thing is a fairly giddy romp.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
A little. I've received 1-2 negative comments on AO3 and once wrote a gift-fic for someone in the Reylo fandom and got attacked on what was then Twitter and Tumblr by fans of the writer I was gifting, even though I had offered to the writer to take the story down. I now only write gift-fic for people I have some relationship with.
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Yes. It's full of consent, sometimes awkward (who else has written crappy postpartum sex on Tumblr? I may be the cheese standing alone on that one) and almost never results in an unplanned pregnancy as a plot device. I most write cis-het and strenuously avoid using any term for a penis that isn't dick or cock. No straining members (sounds like a bunch of constipated middle management.)
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
OMG, yes! I love crossovers, so this is tough to answer. I'll go with a more recent one, "the better part of valor," Mercy Street/The Last of Us, though I have also used Sesame Street as an AU frame for Mercy Street characters.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of! (Ditto to @tortoisesshells)
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Maybe 1? I don't get a lot of offers and feel a bit proprietary, since I can't read it to see how well it's translated.
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
You betcha! Shout-out to the Mansion House Murder Party and "We run a very tight ship" the Cruise Ship crack-fest that @fericita-s and @sagiow and I boarded during a phase of the lockdown.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
I guess I'd have to say Mary Phinney/Jed Foster based on the number of fanfics I've written for them, but I don't really play favorites. I have a real fondness for every pairing I write, including the ones with the OC characters I write for @tessa-quayle.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Maybe this will change the course of history, but "what it means to be a thin crescent moon" is sort of hanging out there. I have some ideas for how to wrap it up but need the time and the mojo, which is harder to come by. I'd also like to get back to my zombie road-trip GLOW AU "Music shall untune the sky" but it's tough because that would be purely for me at this point.
16. What are your writing strengths?
(I hope) Witty banter. Strong female characters who have flaws. Description with plenty of sensory details. Use of quotations, math, and chess gambits :) A pithy drabble.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I find plot the least interesting component of writing fanfic and I think it shows. I love to read long-fic, but I struggle to sustain it. The words "so" and "just."
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I mostly stick to endearments or short phrases. I'm not fluent in any other language and no one needs to discover the various ways Google Translate has let me down.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Mercy Street. I started writing late at night after a work conference, literally drifting in and out of consciousness to lower my inhibitions enough to get started. It was a fic related to a WIP I loved and had written to the author about, so it was very relational.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
What is this, Sophie's Choice? I can't pick a favorite. I'll say I look back with great fondness on my Little Women/Mercy Street crossover "What thou and I did, till we loved," which features Marmee and the Star Trek Kobiyashi Maru Mercy Street crossover "It had the virtue of never having been tried," because like I said, I do love a crossover! Honestly, when there are over 800 fic, I'll admit to have forgotten I'd written some of these :)
Tagging: @asteraceae-blue @orlissa @vesperass-anuna @oldshrewsburyian, @ladamedusoif @trulybettyand anyone else who wants to take this out for a spin!

Hi Gerec! What are your favorite fics that have the best written characterizations for Erik or Charles? Sub Rosa is one of mine for Charles but I would love to hear yours! Thanks!
I was reminded again of this amazing unfinished fic recently so it's on the top of my mind but and these, from atoms by kay_cricketed has such incredible characterization it's just *chef's kiss*. I've read the author's fics in multiple fandoms and they always get the characters so bloody well I'm in awe.
In general, I am amazed at how well @kianspo gets Charles and Erik, and especially how well she handles their canon personalities and issues so beautifully in the context of a modern au. Curve Fitting by kianspo does it best in my humble opinion; it's my personal favorite of all her fics (which I adore).
I think part of the reason I love aus so much is that so many canon stories (that aren't fix-its) are so monumentally sad, and Erik is such a tragic figure (I just want him to be happy with Charles!) @certainlyanotp writes angst and crack equally well (ditto for young and old Cherik) but it's always when she writes from Erik's POV that it totally and absolutely breaks my heart to pieces. By Any Means Necessary (Trial and Error Remix) by Unforgotten is gorgeous, and I always end up crying each and every time I read Strange Lands (No Good Man Remix).
Self-acceptance as an act of survival by winter_hiems is one of my favorites for its depiction of Charles, and the bodyswap plot line is a springboard for such incredible characterization esp. around how he views himself and his body post Cuba. Highly recommend.
Thanks for your ask and for sharing your fave with me. I LOVE Sub Rosa, and I've always wished for more :D

Alright instead of rageposting about white people perpetuating racism problems in cnovel/cdrama fandoms I've channeled my feels into cleaning up some shit I've been doing a bad job at maintaining and feeling horribly guilty about for months or even years. This is probably a healthier use of my current "fuck it." So, for reference, I've:
deleted the kink meme part of the DMBJ kink meme on AO3. This means that the prompts and sign ups and claims are now gone (I'm sorry I didn't give people time to save their prompts, but the reason I didn't do this months ago was that it had many steps and I was being useless about DOING those steps and as I said in the intro paragraph, I'm now at "fuck it" and like. if I can't do it "the right way" I'm today just breaking and doing it "the wrong way" and here we are). The collection and the ten stories in it still exists and anonymity and such are still maintained for people who wanted it, but new prompts and new fills cannot be submitted.
ditto the above for the kink meme part of the SPN kink meme on AO3. The prompts and sign ups and claims are now gone. I also removed myself administrating the Tumblr, though the other two people involved (fpwoper and envydean) do still have access. I realized belatedly that I really should have offered to just leave and let them have it but, again, today is apparently "fuck it" day which means I'm not thinking through the ramifications of my actions which has resulted in some bad fandom citizenry behavior on my part, and again, I truly do apologize. (I've offered to help them reconstruct the challenge part if either of them wants to run it; fpwoper has already said no, I'll see what envydean says and I'll apologize profusely even more and do what I can do fix things if envydean DOES want to take over and make it active again). The collection and the stories written for it still exist; that's about 40 works. Thanks to everyone who participated.
I left @saawek's Star of Solitude event, which I helped run a year and a half ago. Saawek hasn't really been active on Tumblr, but hun if you see this it's nothing at all about you or TGCF I'm just pulling back from things that even seeing them in my blog list has been causing me stress on the daily.
I formally announced that I'll be consolidating @zhenhunartreblogs and @dmbjartreblogs in @cnovelartreblogs, and I've posted to that effect in all three blogs. If you want Zhenhun/Guardian and DMBJ art content from my sideblogs, unfollow the old blogs and follow at cnovelartreblogs, and just black list fandoms you're not interested in - that's the whole reason I tag everything.
I deleted another side blog I haven't been using.
I'm considering deleting @memesforwriters, which I only update maybe once a month, and honestly just typing all this up has I think tipped me over into "fuck it" and I'm going to delete that too. I expect I'll instead reblog relevant memes to the @duckprintspress account, since I have to maintain that regardless.
My last remaining completely inactive Tumblr sideblog is where I'd posted on translated chapter the 2ha manhua. I really would like to be doing more work like that, though hell if I know when I'll have time; I renamed that blog to @unforthfantranslations, and I have vague hopes to translate more of 2ha and to tackle Lie Huo Jiao Chou (which I've never read any version of and would like to). But tbh I probably won't manage any progress on any of that until the fall.
Nothing like a pile of grief to make me say "I'm done feeling guilty about this stuff, like is too short, fuck it I'm gonna make these changes I've been waffling about for ages."
P. S. I opened another window to check how exactly I'd renamed the translation blog and while I had it opened I decided on a compromise with memesforwriters, which is that I'm exporting it, and THEN I'll delete it. And I DMed the Destiel Harlequin mods that I'm done and think we should shut it down. And I spotted a couple Discord servers I'm going to leave.
So yeah. that's the mood today in a (rather large and overly wordy) nutshell.
Apparently when I said yesterday that I'd be quiet, I failed to take into account how I ACTUALLY process grief. In my defense, this is only the...fourth?...time someone I really care about has died in my entire life. (counts of...Arthur, Gil, my grandfather, yeah that's three...of course other people I've cared about have died but no one who I loved and who I felt "I wish I had more time with this person." Like...I wish I'd had more time with Belle but I didn't love her...yeah I'm just babbling now I'm sorry I'm like this today.)
ETA: okay I just left like 6 Discord servers I haven't been using, too. There's only one I'm still like "maybe I shouldn't..." but I know a lot of people in that server and if I really want back in I can ask for invite.

while waiting on a recap meeting with my boss, i am ... writing notes about what i want this 40k word slowburn gunter x femui fic to accomplish :v
(so backing up -)
writing these short ficlets is making it painfully obvious to do any kind of character study right, i gotta invest in more words here; he's too complex to distill down to one or two scenes, ditto with his dynamic with her. he's hiding too much.
(and honestly, i have always had a soft spot for those epically long slow burn age gap relationship studies; i specifically hunt them out in every fandom, and think making this for gunter fans would be one hell of a gift to this corner of the fates fandom. think pet project, which i feel like fans of a certian age and similar ship taste would recognize. there's a certian sad, poetic irony how both of these men were doomed to death by canon, and I'm vividly reminded of this quote again, mirroring my current feelings.
endurance wise, this is going to be tough - but i've written that amount of words before for past NaNos, beta'd for quite a few novels, and i think this leans enough on all of my favorite tropes i wouldn't get bored halfway through. i also plan to do companion illustrations that will help brainstorm bits as well. the fact this outline is gelling together phenomenally well to the point i already have most of the scenes summarized and falling into place speaks well.)
but back to what i would like this fic to focus on:
can he and kamui have a loving but realistic relationship while he's being tempted by anankos? (think, if they had the Conquest C-S supports in Revelations) if she's around him more, does that reduce anankos' hold on his hatreds? is that enough to change the endgame?
how do they navigate hooking up through the campaign in "closet mode" with all the eyes on them? how do they handle the nohr royalty finding out? (since i feel like hoshido royalty cares less). who reacts badly, who doesn't? who's squicked out by the class differences? (age difference/psuedo-incest too, but given the slight realisim bent, it feels like they'd be more fussed about the former). despite the heaviness, i feel like this is prime territory for some genuinely endearing characterization moments.
can kamui grow past her childhood crush on him and mature into seeing him in a different light? (in turn, can he too, also see her as somebody more nuanced than a princess to be used or simply a mentee to teach bitterly? can he have the bravery to reach out through his loneliness, and bare his heart and scars?) how does their romance change with the flavors over time? from pining to confession to deep physical intimacy?
bluntly, too, on that last point, how do they work around the age difference in terms of sexual mechanics and libido? how does kamui draw him out emotionally, and make him feel like a man again, rather than a ghost or a rusted weapon? how do they stumble into their white-hot sexual appetite for each other, and how do they handle the kinks and taboos that they both wrestle with? (how does gunter in particular wrestle with the guilt of his desire?)
can he and kamui come to terms with the fridge horror of the northern fortress times? can he make amends for his acts there -- if he's the head of security/her bodyguard/perfectly aware of how Garon kidnapped her, and almost executing Silas, as just a few examples. how does kamui reconcile that with her feelings for him?
and -
can i make y'all cry several times LOL
god help me, and I swear by my Muse, I am going to give this man a goddamn happy ending. he's going to have to earn it, but it will be there.

🤯, 🤭 & 💔 for the kinkmeme
🤯 What's a genre you struggle with as a writer (ex. romance, action, etc.)?
The ones I'm not writing, lmao.
Okay but in all seriousness, I would say I struggle with mysteries, because I don't enjoy them in general. (I'm that person who always looks up the answer so I don't have to deal with the 'mystery' part which I generally find incredibly boring, so no, I can't really write the genre either). Ditto westerns.
I actually don't think I really struggle with romance, contemporary, action, fantasy, adventure, science fiction, erotica etc. I don't even struggle with hard science fiction. I don't think I'd struggle that much with horror or psychological or even supernatural thriller. Every time I've written elements of horror or thriller genres into my works, it's been pretty well-received actually. I'm just not really drawn to it. Genres are pretty easy to 'get' frankly (I did a media degree, I have done tertiary study of genre, so...formulas I understand). I struggle less with genre and more with base conceptuals that can be found in any genre - for example, I struggle with plot-based over character-based storylines. And that's true in any genre.
Oh! Actually I think maybe I struggle with procedurals and 'case of the week' style writing. That's what Eversion was supposed to be, and I profoundly did not like doing it, so basically removed Connor from the case and told a different story, lol, so I think that's one too!
🤭 Do you have a favorite tag to use when posting your works?
It's two and they go hand in hand: Angst and hurt/comfort. I think they're on just about every single one of my works. And they're usually among the first two I add.
💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?
Hmmm.
Strange Sights because it represents a time in my life that was extremely damaging for me, to the point where I nearly have deleted it several times (I won't though, it doesn't hurt in the same way anymore - time heals some wounds and all that).
All of The Ice Plague because it just did so badly re: engagement (Underline the Black is about to eclipse TIP 3 for kudos in almost a quarter of the time and far less words, lol, sigh), and it became the death knell of the Fae Tales canon, which was supposed to continue. I grieved that for years, on and off, until I finally accepted reality. In TIP 1, we could say it was just...teething issues. In TIP 2 (which did worse than TIP 1) we could be like 'oh well, these things happen.' In TIP 3, which has done the worst of any long fic I've ever written, across two separate accounts, I just put my head in my hands and never felt further away from trying to draw in readers and keeping my career going. I can't tell you how many times I nearly quit.
(I had some great times writing it, but I also had a lot of 'why am I even still doing this to myself' times while writing it too, and then I'd remember the readers that were engaging with it and commenting on it, and I'd remember like... I need to make a living, and I'd also remember that the characters deserved their happy ending, and I'd keep going).
Honestly, nothing else really comes close to TIP, especially TIP 3. I actually felt relieved when it ended. Everything I've written since has been more popular and drawn in more people. It speaks for itself. It just makes me sad as well, that proportionately, less than 1/7 of the readers of Game Theory ever got to read Augus and Gwyn's true happy ending and epilogue, in All that We Were, All That We Will Ever Be. It's just a massive drop off overall, and makes me feel like I let folks down.

this person who posted in the tags that you do "weird flanderization of Jonathan who suddenly is the most feral most strongest most specialest little boy who gets to meet all of the other characters." and that "he shouldn't be in the league at all" isn't because of your writing or anything but because they're mad that jonathan is taking up jekyll's spotlight in the league. i apologize on behalf of the j+h fandom they are notorious around here and now they have targeted you too.
I'll be honest, I seriously blanked on what post you could be talking about because my eyes kind of glazed over mid-rant when I was scrolling past it. (My pretty pink eye is always open but it doesn't always pay attention, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
On that note, I've mentioned before what my reaction to people/media being jerks about Jonathan Harker is *--
*Spoilers: It means I make even more gratuitously indulgent Jonathan Harker content. I'm making a whole monster AU sequel novel centered around the guy for crying out loud.
--and that was well before I started churning out fanfic for the LXGF comic that Does Not Exist Yet about the myriad public domain characters who are owned by no one, but who are, to the best of my knowledge, being written in a way that realistically grows from the canon of the books they come from. On that point, if their main issue is the League of Extraordinary Gentlefolk and my premature bootleg scribbling about the same, feat. Jonathan Harker? I guess it needs repeating (as it is made very clear on the comic's blog itself):
This is not Alan Moore's comic! The closest resemblance is the name! It is not, nor was it ever planned to be, a direct child of Alan Moore's work! Nor of any movie or musical or series or adaptation!
The characters and their potential adventures are based on what we can take from the actual books!
Which are being read en masse at this point by all the writers involved, as we love nothing more than inflicting book club after book club on ourselves. Anyway.
This isn't worth a meatier rant, honestly. Ditto for anyone's griping about how we're not catering specifically to their version of Jekyll and Hyde, or how they want the comic to be done, or how they want anyone who dares to write a story involving public domain characters to mimic their favorite adaptation or spinoff. None of the things they're complaining about are being made for them. They're being made by people who want those stories to exist for themselves and for anyone else who might like to see their stories. That's it.
I will say that I honestly hope they can get past whatever hang-up they have about these characters and their hobby of trying to shout or wheedle everyone else into playing along with their mean-spirited takes.
Because looking at the wider fandoms of all these classic literature and comic book fans? This person seems to be one lone sourpuss stamping their feet while everyone else is being chill or excited about their own stuff. Some have even done the easy thing and, you know, blocked the blogs/tags that upset them. I do it all the time. It's probably been done to me. I don't know and I don't care that I don't know.
I sincerely want this person to get to that headspace too. If only so they can find their way back to the point of being a fan, which is having fun with the content they enjoy rather than seeking out projects and people to throw bile at.

Ditto on needing your fics like I need air! I am vibrating with excitement about the next chapter of home and your internal monologue colab sounds freaking amazing too! The understanding you have of these characters is so great and you do them justice every single time! The fact that you write some of the best smut I’ve ever read anywhere, fanfiction or otherwise is just a cherry on top of a delicious cake that’s your writing!
Y'all got me BLUSHIN and shit!!!
thank you so much for the kind words, nonnie <3. The thing I love the most about outer banks is that they listened to their fans regarding characterization. We got infinitesimal shreds from the first season and we were like 'okay thank you, here's who these people are.' and the writers said 'Dope! we think so too!'
So many of the issues I've had with past fandoms (*cough cough the 100 cough*) involved the writers(showrunner) literally hating the fanbase and spending time actively undermining characterization and motivations the fans latched onto. The thing is, it's not just fanon -- we extrapolate from what we are shown, inferring depth from provided info. The Outer Banks team recognizes that the fans are the ones that spend the most time with the characters, and everything we saw in season 3 made so much sense. I appreciate you saying I understand them so, so deeply, because the writers agreed, too! I was so happy that we got so much of what we've already written for jiara -- JJ falling first/loving her for a long time, him pushing her away due to self-hatred/insecurity, Kiara *demanding* that he fight for them, Kiara being his safe haven, Kiara being assertive and persistent in showing up for him. It was all so excellent because we were cheering 'YES YES WE THOUGHT SO TOO!!' and it was v v beautiful to witness and be a part of.
Also, thank u, thank u very much (re the smut comment lol). I've read a *lot* of smut, fanfiction AND otherwise, and I found that fanfiction was more specific with details/realistic situations, but often lacked the depth of emotional connection you get from romance novels, so I do my best to combine the two. I so very much appreciate you recognizing the work that goes into all the smut I write!!
Anyway, sorry for writing so much, I just LOVE this show and LOVE writing/talking about it and interacting with fellow fans!! I appreciate you so much, nonnie, and all your kind, wonderful words <3

hi! for the writing ask game, I'd love if you answered what you want outta: 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 12, 15, 19, 23, 24, 29, and 48! :)
*deep breath* alright then 😉
1. When did you start writing?
When I was a kid I used to write a bit but not anything serious (I did plot out an idea for a "book" that shall never see the light of day). And then twelve years ago when I was 18 I started writing fanfiction, it was also when I started writing in English (which isn't my first language, but is weirdly now the only language I know how to write stories in).
2. Favourite character?
Of all time? No idea. Seriously. But let's narrow it down a bit. Favorite character that I enjoy writing for from the fandoms I've written in a few times? Elena from TVD because it's easy to get into her headspace, and also I feel very protective of her. Sameen Shaw from Person of Interest because doing her character right is kind of a challenge for me, also I adore her. Regina Mills, though it's hard to write from her POV so I mostly have stuff from Emma just being totally in love with her. Parker from Leverage, because she's really cool. Izzy from Shadowhunters, because ditto. Lizzie from Legacies, IDK she's just one of the most complex and interesting characters in the show. River Song from DW, she's really cool and I love trying to reunite her with Thirteen. Aaaaaand I think that's enough of that.
3. Favourite AU?
From one's I've written... I think I'm really proud of this one.
Royal Marriage Agreements and Cursed Princesses and Dragons Oh My!
It's my Clary/Izzy feminist Sleeping Beauty fic where Princess Izzy's supposed to get married for political reasons but doesn't wanna and figures out that if she wakes 'the sleeping princess' then that would take precedent. There's also a bit of cute background Malec with Dragon!Magnus.
6. Do you write on your phone/laptop/paper/something else?
Usually my laptop. But if an idea for a sentence or a paragraph strikes, or if I'm editing and adding some short changes, but I don't have the laptop on me I also use my phone.
7. Favourite writing advice?
Probably the advice to not worry about making it good immediately. To write something that's terrible because once it's been written you can edit it to your heart's content. But first you need to WRITE it.
12. Your favourite work?
Currently the story I'm working on right now because I've never done something as challenging as this. Something where I keep switching points of view through the chapters, and where I'm dealing with really complicated and intricate issues of overcoming trauma, and healing, and opening up to love, and finding comfort in friendships.
She's Come Undone and Set Free
Which is the story where Elena deals with the trauma of the sire bond, as well as finds out what Damon did to Caroline in s1. Which brings stuff to the surface for Caroline, but now she has her friends there to support her. Elena and Caroline get to be ANGRY. Also there's Elejah. And a bit of Klaroline. But also a LOT of bonding for Elena, Bonnie, Caroline and Rebekah. Also the Salvatores face some actual consequences.
15. Do you ever delete works?
I have in the past. Like two or three fics I think, some of the very first ones I ever wrote. They were AWFUL. And really short. No one's missing much, I promise.
But I don't think I'm ever going to again. Even though there's a lot that makes me cringe upon rereading, it would feel wrong to delete them.
19. Where do you write?
In bed. It's weird, I know, but I have some back issues and it's better for me than staying in a chair for hours on end.
23. Least favourite part about writing fanfiction?
Starting out. Once I've started I get in the zone and the story kind of... happens, like even if I don't know where I'm going with it there's little unexpected moments that surprise me. But starting out is hell, I've somehow always have just forgotten how to write.
24. How many unfinished works are in your drafts?
I plead the fifth 😂. Seriously though... a BUNCH. I've got a half written Hizzie fic that's torturing me. A Bellarke fic that will probably never see the light of day. Some beginnings to a Marisa/Asriel fic that I lost inspiration to.
Yeah, a bunch.
29. Where do you get your inspiration from?
Hell if I know. Usually though it's when something is pisses me off about canon and my brain goes 'wouldn't it be cool if...' and then I try to write that scenario and sometimes a fic happens.
48. How do you deal with coming up with titles?
*groans* it is the WORST.
Sometimes I take the episode title and twist it. 5+1 fics make it easy and I just describe the scenario. Sometimes I take one word that is used in the fic and use that. Sometimes I pick a random song lyric.
There's not a lot of brain involved, is what I'm saying.

fandom new year 6 8 and 16!
6. Which yet-to-be-started fic is first on your list? - ...the one i was going to write before the one i'm actually writing, because it was too Long and Complex (i have half a notebook of notes, coded into eight separate Big Arc Events. send help.) and i got scared and somehow thought writing a story set in scotland in the 1700s would be easier. (readers, it is not.)
but this yet-to-be-started fic is part four five of the supernatural you owe me series, and it's going to be *checks notes* sex and feels. and feels and sex. numbers of those involved ranging anywhere from one to three, as will their enthusiasm. basically it's just an excuse for me to see just how messy (figuratively and literally) i can get things. (although i had the though last night that the premise is ridiculous but y'know what? so was the first fic in the series and i can make it work.)
8. Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it? - uh, there's nothing, really? i mean i'm quaking at the knees thinking about the above fic, but mainly because it's going to be...a lot of writing.
as for topics, nah, i've tackled quite a bunch i never thought i would.
16. Do you have that one fanfic that you wrote a ton for, ages ago, but never posted? Will this be the year, come hell or high water, that it WILL get finished and posted? - *shifty eyes* buddy, i have got so many. and i actually do intend on posting them. finishing is another matter, but fuck it, i really just want to post what i have. and i can.
they're all incredibly self-indulgent and OFC-centric because hashtag yolo so like, literally no one else would want to read them, but i like them and i like the prose and themes, so :P
in order of most recent, there's 1) a my country: the new age fic, which has some Fun With Translations and some Fun With Ghosts shenanigans and was written during The First Plague Year, 2) a planet of the apes and underworld crossover, which is basically My Werewolf Boyfriend during the apocalypse, 3) the hobbit rewrite of the Oh Noes I Fell Through To Another World variety, which i wrote for NaNoWriMo one year and finished a whole week early, so like...there's a lot written.
i do have a few others that are dead in the water but it's been twenty years so let's not drain the lake for them anytime soon.
(and i was going to clean up a mad max: fury road RP but uhhhh it's massive, and ditto for a modern au of the hobbit collaborative brainstorm that lasted like...half a year. just going to let those lie for a while.)

Hey, I just looked at my personal Facebook photo Gallery, and I saw a bunch of old drawings I did years ago, some of which I drew before I was ever on Tumblr, so that got me thinking. Should I start sharing those drawings?
And second thought, how about I post small snippets from my Wips that probably will never see the light of day, but that I would like to share, and probably won't have any spoilers.
Let me know what to think in reblogs, replies, DMs, asks, or submissions.
