LOOK WHO'S BACK, PEOPLE
(missed you all; been planning a s1 rewatch for ages but life and work have been chaotic)
Summary: While Yeo-jin visits Yoon Se-won, Si-mok pays one more call of his own on the way to Wonju. Missing scenes from S2E16.
2.1k, complete, slight warning for flashbacks to canon violence (including that one icky scene in S2).

I've been puzzling for a few days over what Woo Tae-ha is meant to represent in his parallel to our main pair. The line is easy to join between Choi Bit and Han Yeo-jin, but between Woo Tae-ha and Hwang Si-mok? It's hard to see any similarities at all.
In the end, what I think it comes down to is how Woo Tae-ha is consistently an "ends justify the means" type of person. His approach to Seo Dong-jae's case contrasts heavily to Choi Bit's and Kim Sa-hyun. Where they worry for Seo Dong-jae's safety, he cares only for the capture of the culprit. Once the culprit is in custody, he's already celebrating regardless of how Seo Dong-jae is still missing.
The fake witness also ties into this. By presenting misleading statements, Woo Tae-ha aimed to frame the police and retain the prosecution's investigation rights. In his pursuit of this, however, he actively led the whole investigation astray. Woo Tae-ha could have been indirectly responsible for Seo Dong-jae's death and it doesn't even particularly factor on his radar.
When covering up Park Gwang-su's death, he had to ask Choi Bit why she chose to dial for emergency services and she had to explain it was so his body wouldn't be left long. Her choice there was purely emotionally driven (Park Gwang-su was already dead after all), but it highlights how Woo Tae-ha didn't even consider that angle. He doesn't lack or struggle to process emotion like Si-mok, but he does have a callous disregard for the humanity in his approach to cases.
Hwang Si-mok is never so far from humanity in his approach to cases (especially not as of s2 where he's noticeably affected by Seo Dong-jae's disappearance), but Woo Tae-ha is the extreme end case of where he could have ended up if his own sense of ethics (and later, his connections to others) didn't keep him on the straight and narrow.

Lee Yoo-an comes in that morning like she has escaped a drowning, shaking out her umbrella in the doorway. A sweetness follows, the smell of crushed leaves escaping from the bottom of her boots—full-mouthed rot crawls up his throat and settles, there, where tongue meets column of neck. For a moment, his vision narrows. The mountain is an anvil in his teeth. "Mian," she says, hanging up her coat. She does not seem to notice the way he sways, barely, from his spot in the kitchen. He is still nursing a hangover.

Hello everyone! I hope you all are having a good New Year! I just wanted to give this fic as a little gift to the hwanghan community to celebrate the beginning of 2023! I can’t believe that its been a little over a year since I last posted a fanfic!
Anyways, here is a hwanghan coffee shop AU to start your year with 😊
Summary:
Hwanghan Coffee Shop AU. What if our favorite prosecutor and investigator met differently? - Now, Hwang Si-Mok was a stubborn man who had become used to persevering through difficult situations. However, upon feeling the pools of water in his shoes, the sudden pelting of rain in his eyes due to the lack of an umbrella, and the growing dampness of his suit coat, the prosecutor decided he may have to admit defeat to Mother Nature this time, which is a hard thing for a lawyer to admit to anyone. Luckily, there was a coffee shop nearby that could offer him warmth during the storm and perhaps something even more valuable...

Sins of the Father Chapter 12
I feel like it's every 4 months I come to you with an offering of this tale. I have no idea if that's actually accurate, but they say perception is reality. At any rate, I a assume it's been four months, as I have come back to give you this. I hope that this next installment is enjoyable.
And, hey, comments are love?

Twenty Questions
Thank you @cupofteaandstars for the tag!
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 16, plus a Spanish translation a friend did of one of my works.
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 73,165, for now.
What fandoms do you write for? Exclusively Stranger/Secret Forest and related crossovers, although there was that one Andor one that I just had to put out there to cope with the intensity of my feelings about the cliffhanger season ending.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
It's a close race among some of these, but:
gamsa
chilyo
chib
heonsin
haengbok (with maengse only one behind at the moment)
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I do, always! I'm honestly always so astounded and delighted to think of someone reading my work while I'm just out here having a normal Monday or Tuesday, and want to express that delight.
What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oh boy, just you wait.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Since all things Si-mok and Yeo-jin related (or Stranger-in-general-related) are usually bittersweet, probably inyeon, a relatively recent one. However, the one that leaves me with the warmest feeling at the end is actually pyeongsaeng.
Do you get hate on fics?
Fortunately not! I've gotten a few weird comments once or twice but nothing mean-spirited.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do not, and the few times I've been tempted I have realized swiftly that I'm not cut out for it.
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Only within the Stranger/SF multiverse so far - in other words, AUs for Stranger/SF that are based on Bae Doona and CSW's other works, which I think of as other lives of Si-mok and Yeo-jin.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Ditto Cup, not that I know of. I would go absolutely off-the-charts feral in order to get the copycat fic taken down.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have! My IRL best friend of many years graciously wrote me a Spanish translation of chib.
What's your all-time favorite ship?
Eh, I'm not really a shipper...? HOWEVER, @ohyangchon has given me massive Changjae feelings and I love their relationship so much.
What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Scenes just sort of seem to come to me, and once they're there I don't stop until they eventually coalesce into a complete story, no matter how long that takes to find its shape. I do have an extensively Yeo-jin and Si-mok inspired novel (low-key sci-fi? space opera?) that has been nagging at me for years, but I don't think that one will ever amount to anything.
What are your writing strengths?
I'd like to think I inhabit the voices of the characters well.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Pacing, probably?
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Similar to Cup's thoughts, this is difficult because I feel like sometimes names, titles, and terms of address in particular just don't have the same nuance and feeling translated from Korean into English-- especially the terms of address that Si-mok and Yeo-jin and others use for each other. Therefore, sometimes I do transliterate. Also, as I become a little bit more comfortable IRL speaking Korean, where practical I sometimes find myself wanting to mimic the Korean clause order/speech patterns of sentences even while writing in English.
First fandom you wrote for?
I think it must have been a gift fic in the Redwall fandom (never made it to AO3, but a cozy and comforting thing to work on)
Favorite fic you've written?
I love all my children equally!!! But I do think I did some really great character work in bohoja, one of my works on a more underrated duo (Si-mok and Mr. Kang). I usually am pretty self-critical, but there are a few lines in there that I always read and think "damn, who wrote that???" XD
Who hasn't been spoken for? Tagging @gottagobuycheese, @inkingtwice, and @michyeosseo as well as anyone else who's interested!

for all that Stranger is a very plotty series I really appreciate how it always makes the time for little character moments. things like han yeo-jin’s drawings, hwang si-mok vs food, kang won-chul’s silly office habits. and then it builds on these to give actual character insight?
han yeo-jin likes her drawings, a load of her doodles are actively anime-style which is fitting considering how much she’s into animanga, she likes to gift them and they mean a lot to her. they’re literally part of how she shows her appreciation for others, from her coworkers to si-mok. so in s2 when she’s suddenly *not* drawing? that shows something is severely wrong even before si-mok points it out. her returning to doodling later on after starting to mend the rift with si-mok therefore pulls some weight in showing that she’s healing, but at the same time, when her co-workers look over she still hides what’s she’s doing. this contrasts with her old work where she literally left post-its of her art as gifts on full display. she may be improved from her lowest state but she’s still not comfortable in her current environment.
si-mok vs food, better people than me have explained, but he’s constantly interrupted from having meals because of cases. it starts mostly as a running gag but it does get built upon. when he’s at odds with another character and they try to have a meal with him it’s inevitably cut short (kang won-chul’s s1 manager intervention, lee yeon-jae meeting the team) or he actively dislikes the food (and this part gets more blatant as he starts to express more emotions in general. initially it’s other characters who have to directly comment on or ask him about not approving of the food whereas by the time he has the meal with woo tae-ha the disgust is visible on his face). the only times he’s able to have a proper meal is when he’s started to let people in, so si-mok accepting the invite to the team meal in s1 (just before everything all falls to pieces) is a big step. it catches everyone off-guard for a reason. beyond that, there are the meetings with han yeo-jin which are some of the few times he’s actually able to have a proper meal with someone.
si-mok vs alcohol is another indicator. much of s1 is spent refusing alcohol and saying he doesn’t drink. in situations where someone else is drinking and it would be socially acceptable for him to mirror them (see eun-soo drinking alone in the pop-up bar) he is notable for how he refuses to do so. it takes most of the season for him to ‘give in’ enough to drink and when he does it shows that he may not be showing it in other ways but he has hit a low point. and that he chooses to share his history with yeo-jin when he’s in that state speaks volumes as to how much more he trusts her now. (I could speculate here about how him avoiding alcohol seems to be rooted in a not wanting to lose control kind of thing which is at odds with his whole emotionless deal in the same way his repeated lying about his pain is but that’s a tangent so I’ll leave it be) and at the end of s1 he drinks socially with yeo-jin and later on in that episode shows a full smile, showing him choosing to ease up re: alcohol is actually a *positive* development for him in some way. so him then reverting back in s2 to not drinking alcohol? it’s either his development being stunted/reverted or he’s not in the position where he’s with someone he trusts enough to drink with.
as for kang won-chul? I don’t think there’s any real *development* as such with his office habits (spinny chair, trying to get the paper into the bin), but it does demonstrate he doesn’t conform as much as he seems to at first glance. he’s a character who at first glance knows the ways this all works and blends in with it, but he doesn’t quite fit.
my point is just, the show didn’t have to bother with any of this. they could have still hit all the plot points and it would have made sense. the characters would have still stood up to scrutiny. but they chose to include all these little indicators that build up a picture of all the characters and where they are in their respective arcs. and I appreciate it so much that the show trusts the audience to complete the puzzle.

I'm only on episode 4, but I think it's fair to say that Yi Jin is in no way an adult.
When his dad comes to the bookstore, he realizes that he's an adult now because he has no guardian. And then he runs to the terminal and meets his dad right after.
He acts stiff because he feels like he should be an adult, but he doesn't know what it means, so he tries to stand like one, except sometimes he forgets.
He says he's too grown up for teenage drama because he thinks he's supposed to be, but he loves it and gets himself involved.
Most importantly, the story's narrator is 18-year-old Hee Do. To her, he is an adult, so that's how he's portrayed. But his constant insistence that he's an adult is the first clue that he really isn't.

Woo Young Woo doesn't like being touched. She doesn't like being touched by her family and friends, and she doesn't like being touched by strangers.
I am totally all-in on the Young Woo/Jun Ho ship. But I don't want to see her suddenly healed from her aversion to touch in order to sell the romance. And I really hope that we can all be satisfied with a romance that doesn't require her to experience discomfort.

Junho was just so upset about the question about doing volunteer work, and I love him for that. Youngwoo didn't seem bothered by it (at the time. later when she brought it up it was clear it had bothered her), but Junho still agonized about it anyway.
I don't even have a full thought here. He wasn't upset about perceptions or about her feelings so much... like, he was just upset because it was wrong.
