Thought of ideas for small changes in some of the episodes in the Candace Knows AU:
-In Phineas and Ferb Interrupted, Candace and Perry are both aware of each other’s attempts to make the boys interesting again, at least until the kids move to the junkyard since Candace can’t exactly text when she’s stuck to an uncontrollable flying tiny castle.
-In Split Personality, there are three Candaces to deal with. The first two are Busting Candace and Crush Candace like in canon, while the third is her relatively sane side who tries to help Phineas and Ferb put her back together. In the absence of her two biggest obsessions, she starts emulating how Perry acts when he’s on-duty, which makes her act a lot like her second dimension counterpart. She also starts wearing one of Perry’s spare hats and Busting Candace mockingly calls her “Agent C” at some point.
-She’s well aware of where Perry is and what he’s doing with her body in Does this Duckbill Make Me Look Fat?, but since she can’t actually do anything about it the overall plot doesn’t change much. However, they do discover afterward that she’s retained some platypus traits, namely electrolocation(though it doesn’t work all that well if she’s not underwater) and actually liking Perry’s platypus food(which he never lets her hear the end of).
-Since she knows what happens to the inventions every day, she’s not the one who initiates the experiment in Don’t Even Blink
-Oh, There You Are, Perry is pretty much the same, but after Perry comes back and explains that he got temporarily reassigned Candace is Not Happy and goes to OWCA headquarters to make sure Monogram Knows It.
-Candace knows full well that Dennis is a rogue agent, and acts the way she does around him both as a distraction and so he can’t use her against Perry. Also because it’s fun to be able to torment a jerk with no consequences.
-Stacy is very lucky that the first person she has to have a conversation about Perry with is Candace(and that Perry had explained the situation to Candace ahead of time) because she’s not exactly convincing when trying to act casual.
-She actually tags along with Perry during LOVEMUFFIN’s Pageant of Evil, and cheers her dad on so he doesn’t get discouraged/doesn’t realize just what kind of competition he’s accidentally entered.
-She also tags along during Sidetracked to put off having to clean the bathroom and takes advantage of the fact that, since she’s not an agent, she’s not subject to OWCA’s jurisdiction rules.

04 fandom ask how about a show I haven't heard you talk about in a hot minute. Phineas and Ferb?
I kind of enjoyed you discovering the weird and wonderful cartoon most of the people under 25 grew up with. I think that's a good age range cuz I'm under that and I definitely grew up with it as a good part of my childhood but I'm also still well into cartoons in going in my twenties lol... my birthday was last month and I had quite the number of Elena of avalor presents. You can do that fandom if you want to but not necessary
Well, happy belated birthday first! And then thanks for playing! And also, yeeeah I haven’t been watching Phineas and Ferb in a bit, the 10 minute format asks a lot of concentration of me that I simply don’t have lately so it’s on the backburner. I got the tab open and I definitely wanna finish it because I like the show, but I just don’t have the space for it right now.
Phineas and Ferb:
the character i least understand: Baljeet? I mean, he is... best friends with his bully... that is such a weird dynamic, I genuinely do not understand it at all?
interactions i enjoyed the most: Heinz and Perry, for sure, they’re so weird
the character who scares me the most: Heinz, Phineas and Ferb like those three have the actual capability to destroy the world if they so deem but all three use this power for incredibly specific stupid silly things, like imagine what they could do if they actually tried to be evil? Terrifying
the character who is mostly like me: I really don’t think any of them tbh
hottest looks character: Vanessa probably?
one thing i dislike about my fave character: sometimes, Isabella is very passive-aggressive with Phineas when he once again completely fails at realizing something is/could be romantic, I feel like clearer communication would be the better approach and like that boy needs these things spelled out for him so just spell it out for him
one thing i like about my hated character: I... don’t hate any of the characters? Aside from maybe Heinz’s parents I guess? And like... the thing I like about them is that they... made... Heinz, I guess? xD
a quote or scene that haunts me: The fact that in Isabella’s head, Phineas is a centaur for some reason
a death that left me indifferent: no one has died (yet)
a character i wish died but didn’t: none, nope, this show doesn’t have such characters
my ship that never sailed: I dunno, I do think Vanessa/Candace would be hella cute and a great way to tie the two plots more together also queers in a Disney show that early, could you imagine
Elena of Avalor:
the character i least understand: Naomi when she went “well, your cousin who you love like a brother just betrayed you and is on the run and so are dangerous sorcerers but like I’ll just fuck off to travel the world now because that’s what I need”, like I understand that being a captain is what she always wanted but that timing was incredibly insensitive considering their friendship and her own commitment into being a council member? Like, the open sea doesn’t run away, it would still be there after they caught Esteban, but to leave Elena and Avalor like that, during times where she - as one of only two (2) people in the entire country who actually can read the freaking ancient language - would have been needed? That made no sense for her character
interactions i enjoyed the most: Elena and Naomi, Elena and Isabel
the character who scares me the most: None, I think?
the character who is mostly like me: Maybe Mateo, a little?
hottest looks character: Ash Delgado
one thing i dislike about my fave character: For a princess, Elena is really bad at deligating and like... even into the final season, she proves to be bad at that and at that point, she should have spent years learning to deligate, you can not run around and solve every problem yourself once you’re queen and you do have a big network of people you can trust
one thing i like about my hated character: error, redeeming qualities on Shuriki not found
a quote or scene that haunts me: okay so on a more complex level, the fact that Elena can see and talk to their parents and just didn’t fucking tell Isabel for forever, I get it is only one day a year that she can talk to them, but... she really just... forgot to tell other people that she could see ghosts, more specifically her dead parents, when there is Isabel and their grandparents and they all deserved a chance to talk to them too, even if just indirectly. So, it haunts me that the second Dias de los Muertos episode wasn’t just their family, together, and just... talking
a death that left me indifferent: Did anyone die, aside from the pre-dead parents? I don’t think so
a character i wish died but didn’t: Nope, not really
my ship that never sailed: Elena/Naomi. Y’all can say what you want but if that finale wasn’t queerbaity af, when Elena approached Naomi when she was supposed to pick a partner to dance with, while the boys puffed their chests out hoping they would be chosen and for a split-second even Naomi thought Elena wanted to dance with her? I really thought they pulled a “queer in the last second” there and I think they should. I am already eternally grateful that the show didn’t force the four main characters into two heteronormative couples, but can you imagine the raw power of Elena of Avalor, first queer Disney princess?
Send me a fandom and i’ll tell you

a meta on montynessa vanessa and romance cause i’m always emotional.
note: this is of course able to change if ever a monty or a johnny show up and we plot something different. failing that , this is the default course of their relationship.
let’s start this off by saying that vanessa is every bit the hopeless romantic that candace is. she wants to be in love , she wants to hold hands and go on dates and have all those dumb , cheesy moments that couples do. that being said , vanessa’s outlook on love and romance is a little more realistic than candace’s. she doesn’t remember much about her parents’ divorce , but she knows that they really did love each other. she remembers that much. and she knows that passionate , wholesome love can sour or dissipate if the couple doesn’t bother to communicate , or fails to understand one another. she would love it if her romances lasted forever , but she understands very clearly that it isn’t likely.
vanessa knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. she isn’t shy. talking to the object of her affection doesn’t turn her into a stuttering , blushy mess. the first crush we see her have ( johnny ) isn’t some stranger ; it’s someone she has already known and already has a connection with and already has a lot in common with. while she’s shocked that heinz went through her notebook , she isn’t embarrassed to realize her dad knows who she has a crush on. heinz even encourages it by inviting johnny to her birthday party. we see throughout his various attempts at getting dates that heinz , too , is a hopeless romantic. he isn’t some disgusting , misogynistic pos who thinks that his daughter is his property , either. points to heinz. point is , though , that she’s forward , and she’s used to being open about her emotions , for the most part. ( she even lays her head on johnny’s shoulder during her birthday party , before they’re actually dating , because she’s apparently very good at flirting , you go girl. )
continuing on the thread that vanessa knows what she wants , she also knows very clearly how she should be treated. her dad’s been a decent role model in this aspect. his attempts at pleasing her are based mostly on what he would have liked at her age , but he does still try to make her happy. she’s used to being treated well. not as the most important thing at any given moment , but as one of them. she craves open communication and honesty , and she wants to feel important. she breaks up with johnny because he acts as if video games are more important than her , but she says “ that’s it! ” before breaking up with him , suggesting that there are more instances in which he hasn’t treated her the way she wants to be treated. we find out later that this is likely the case. in doof 101 , johnny can’t take no for an answer. when the episode takes place , they’ve been broken up for about two months , vanessa’s presumably in a relationship with monty , and johnny still won’t let up. vanessa doesn’t have any interest in him , but she still greets him. he takes vanessa’s interest in seeing him turned back into a human as a sign that she still likes him , which she very much doesn’t. hell , he kidnaps her , like fucking king kong. johnny gives off major nice guy™ vibes. vanessa was right to get out when she did. she knows how she should be treated and that was not it.
when vanessa meets monty , he swoops in to save her , perry , and her dad from rodrigo , an evil scientist in the making. she’s pretty clearly attracted to him from the get-go , and she’s very clear about it , saying , “ i think it’s time i tried a good guy , ” while she and monty make eye contact. liking someone she barely knows is new to her ; her previous crush , and all the crushes before it ( in my headcanons ) , have all been people she’s already known. however , while the attraction is obvious , she has no interest in going after it. that attraction is left unmentioned until they meet up accidentally in a coffee shop.
it’s there that she starts an actual conversation. there’s a whole moment where she looks at him , recognizes him , and pauses. she thinks about it. and then she talks to him. she contemplates her attraction to him and her previous relationship with a “ bad boy. ” then she decided to go after him. she’s a hopeless romantic , and she hoped it’d all work out in the end , despite his being an agent working against her dad. hope rises even more when they realize what tastes they share and how much they have in common. and they do have a lot in common , even outside their coffee order ( cappuccino with chocolate powder on top and a ginger scone , please ) . their dads expect one thing , they want another. they have a similar sense of humor. he makes her laugh. they have the same reaction to their family being mocked. or , in laymen’s terms , the same sense of loyalty. although their date ends in an argument , both of them are eager to spend time together again. neither apologizes , neither backs down , and they don’t have to ; they understand each other.
worth noticing is that this is the first relationship vanessa’s ever had to keep a secret from her father. vanessa is very open about her relationship with johnny to heinz. she even breaks up with him in heinz’s house. she is comfortable enough and open enough in her relationship with her father that she feels safe moping about a breakup near him , and he knows enough about that relationship to tell johnny , “ didn’t vanessa dump you? ” while she might not tell her dad everything , she never hides things from him either. and she has to hide this not just from her dad , but from her mother too , as charlene is likely to talk to heinz about any boy vanessa brings around. the only person who can really know about any of this is her best friend lacy ( maybe , if she’s not shit at keeping secrets ) and perry the platypus. keeping secrets is new to her. but she does it! partially because , yes , sneaking around makes the relationship all that more appealing ( she is a teenager , after all ) but mostly because she likes monty. she likes the way he makes her feel , the way he makes her laugh , she likes making him laugh and making him feel special. she likes who he makes her.
however , in “ act your age , ” ten years after the show takes place , vanessa and monty have split. this isn’t surprising in real life ; a lot of people don’t marry their high school sweethearts. however , for a show like phineas and ferb , it is noteworthy. candace and jeremy get married in every and any version of the future. phineas and isabella always end up together. i don’t take everything in “ act your age ” as canon. it felt more like some very well produced fanservice. while i am willing to explore ferb and vanessa’s relationship as adults , it feels . . . slimy that they were made canon. those are just my two cents on the issue. anyway , ten years into the future , whether or not vanessa and ferb do end up together , vanessa and monty have broken up. vanessa does not initiate the breakup ; monty does. monty fell out of love with vanessa , while vanessa only fell deeper into it. vanessa loved him. she loved the way he made her feel , loved the way they joked together , loved his innate goodness , despite his sarcasm and sass.
vanessa’s morals are slightly looser than monty’s own ; she isn’t good or evil. he very much is. her moral grayness was the main issue in their relationship as they grew older , and that snowballed into larger issues , which grew into fights. their breakup was messy and drawn out. they would have loud , exhausting arguments. neither one would apologize or back down , very similarly to their first fight. then , in the morning , they would pretend things were alright again. they would never talk about it , because talking about their issues would dissolve into another argument. monty eventually decided that their relationship wasn’t worth it anymore. although he cared about her deeply , and it hurt him to hurt her , he couldn’t say that he was in love with her anymore.
she doesn’t beg him to stay. she respects his choices and when he broke up with her , she gathered her courage , said okay , and mourned by herself. she was inconsolable for a month. cried herself to sleep for weeks. she was still very much in love with him , and this breakup hits her like a freight train. it takes her a long time to be okay , to be able to listen to love songs without crying. she wears his hoodie to sleep long after they’ve broken up. while she genuinely wants the best for him , wants him to be happy however he can be , she still desperately wants him to be happy with her.
when this breakup happens changes according to my mood and to the verse , tbh. for the most part , it happens in the middle of her college career , when she’s well into her twenties. they’d been living together for at least a year at the time. vanessa decides to move into her father’s house instead of her mother’s , mostly because she feels like he can relate more. this breakup is one of the reasons she graduates a little late from college , as she takes a semester off to focus on herself. the other part is that she does want to keep up with her youtube posting , as she enjoys that very much.

Not Legit Movie Reviews
After a 6 month hiatus I have returned with a relevant movie review! This one was fun to write so I hope you enjoy!
Before you continue reading, if you haven’t seen the movie, I spoil the ending and describe some scenes in detail. This review also works if you’re familiar with the first Phineas and Ferb movie; Across the 2nd Dimension. I would also like to preface this as I know my sister is going to read this, a lot of these thoughts and ideas were discussed together, so a lot of these opinions are influenced by her opinion as well, but luckily, we came to the same conclusion about this movie.
This movie was heavily anticipated as the Phineas and Ferb series ended in 2015, which was a long 5 years ago. I have always liked this show, the characters were all enjoyable, the songs were extremely catchy and the plot was always engaging.
As a kid, it hit all the benchmarks for what made a kid’s show great. Only when I wrote my own episode with my sister for a school assignment, did I realize that there was so much hard-work and effort put into the show to make it the spectacular show that it is. The genius’ behind the show; Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh are an extremely talented and creative duo who had previously worked on The Simpsons and Rocko’s Modern Life together; they write a majority of the episodes as well as the songs themselves which are extremely impressive as they’re in almost every single episode. As the impressive song-writers that they are, they are masters at making the songs original and catchy - multiple generations know what an aglet is because of this show, I don’t know what else to say other than the songs are absolute bangers.
But let’s not waste anytime, Candace against the Universe was not their best. I’m just going to say it right now. The plot wasn’t the strongest in terms of story and twist. It was predictable and simply not as interesting as regular episodes or Across the 2nd Dimension which I will compare heavily to this movie. My sister and I had a long discussion about how it was similar to the Mission Marvel special where the content had potential but it missed the original charm and wit that the episodes have. This movie could have easily been condensed into a two parter, or just under forty-five minutes. The plot of Across the 2nd dimension was so strong and was executed so perfectly; a quick summary: Phineas and Ferb help Doofenshmirtz build an ‘inator’ to another dimension but Perry is stuck between exposing himself as a secret agent to the boys or allowing them to help Doofenshmirtz take over the Tri-State area. He ends up doing both which carries the rest of the story to meet their alternate-dimension selves and then finally comes together at the end in a massive battle where alternate-dimension attempts to conquer yet another Tri-State area (the one that we’re familiar with).
I felt like the problem with Candace against the Universe, the ending was very anti-climatic. It ends in a short battle which felt lacking compared to the final battle in Across the 2nd dimension. My sister and I absolutely love how in the end of AT2D, it was revealed that Perry had been collecting their inventions throughout the summer and had been saving them for an ‘Alpha-level’ threat. It’s a thrilling pay-off for audiences to see that all of their incredible inventions haven’t gone to waste after a single use - they have a second purpose - which is to fight evil. In Candace against the Universe, it followed a very basic plot structure, Candace is captured by an alien species in space, they give her what she’s looking for which is individuality and validation, the boys ‘save’ her but then Candace kicks them to the curb, the true intentions of the alien leader are revealed and it’s a race to save Candace and the rest of the humans on earth. What made the ending in AT2D so satisfying was seeing all of the inventions come back, obviously they couldn’t do that again in this movie but I felt like there could’ve been a better ending to it.
Within the first ten minutes of Candace against the Universe, we’re introduced to Doofenshmirtz’s newest invention. ‘A power-vacuum-inator.’ a machine that turns things into lint and then vacuums it away. A pretty hilarious contraption which isn’t far away from the other inventions that he’s made before but later, we’re introduced to another invention, the ‘Chicken-replace-inator’ which swaps things with the closest chicken; pretty self-explanatory but it proves itself handy later. What my sister and I found as a ‘cop-out’ was how easy they made it so that Doofenshmirtz and Vanessa could return to earth. When the Mama plant is preparing to take over Danville, a simple blast from the ‘Chicken-replace-inator’ zaps it away and the cast breaks out into a final song. But before I continue, let’s talk about Vanessa’s purpose to the plot.
A huge drawn-in point to the movie was Candace and Vanessa as a duo. In the episodes it was exciting to see them come together and interact because they’re connecting the plot line of Phineas and Ferb to the plot line of Doofenshmirtz and Perry which is pretty high stakes since Perry can’t reveal to his host-family that he’s a spy. But, early on into the movie, Candace and Vanessa get split up and we don’t see them together again until the very end of this movie. Before Doofenshmirtz reunites with Vanessa, he uses the ‘Chicken-replace-inator’ to zap away a large dragon-monster creature, replacing it with the closest chicken, which is on earth; so there’s now a chicken on the alien planet. Unfortunately for them, when Doofenshmirtz, Vanessa and Perry (who were left behind by the others) want to return to earth they attempt to use the ‘Chicken-replace-inator’ on themselves but, if you remember from before, the closest chicken is now the chicken on the alien planet. So the ‘cop-out’ of the inator is that Doofenshmirtz, Vanessa and Perry simply change the settings of the inator to swap places with the furthest chicken instead of the closest. And, anti-climatically use the inator to blast and switch the Mama plant with the furthest chicken (the one back on the alien plant). Which got me thinking, that was a pretty lazy ending, it was anti-climatic and just an easy way out. They already had a “battle” with Candace shooting free t-shirts at the minions so they needed to get rid of the plant quickly.
I thought it over in the shower, what would’ve made for a similar ending to AT2D? Where they would use Chekhov’s gun and make use of everything that was introduced in the movie. If they had defeated the Mama plant with the vacuum, it would’ve given the movie an extra ten minute action scene; where Baljeet has his ‘a-ha!’ moment and finally his knowledge of Space Adventures doesn’t fail him or Phineas takes the spotlight (when the boys are hurtling towards the ground and Phineas uses something he saw in Space Adventures to save them) Baljeet could reference an episode were they created an air-vacuum to deprive something of all air, drying it out and killing it; tying the end to the beginning. I understand they decided to use the ‘Chicken-replace-inator’ because they spent so much time on it but as I was saying before, it just wasn’t satisfying. It was already pretty silly and made just for the sake of being a joke but I felt it would’ve been better suited to use the Power-Vacuum-inator.
Which brings me to my next point, the running gags. When Phineas and Ferb pull the crew together to go to space, Baljeet introduces Space Adventure - an adventure in space - which is reminiscent of Star Trek and referenced in an older episode (Nerds of a Feather) Throughout the movie, Baljeet attempts to help navigate alien territory with his knowledge of Space Adventure but it backfires on him every time. However, when they’re hurtling back to Earth, Phineas references Space Adventure and saves them, essentially taking Baljeet’s running gag from under his feet which didn’t sit right with me. It didn’t come to a satisfying conclusion. Again, I understand not everything has to come full circle but this should’ve. Same with Buford’s running gag, when they’re packing for space, Buford brings aboard a canoe, everyone but Buford can agree that there’s absolutely no use for a canoe in space; so it’s ‘funny’ that Buford is dead-set on carrying around a massive canoe into space and back. But the conclusion that he gets is that it gets strapped to a golf cart and swings into the aliens, knocking them out.
Finally, there’s a relationship that wasn’t fully developed but still happened that bothers me. When the crew crash land on the alien planet, there’s discourse between Isabella and Doofenshmirtz on who should ‘lead’ the group to the fortress that Candace is most likely held in. Isabella supports her claim as leader since she’s a girl scout and has patches proving her worthy as a leader but Doofenshmirtz is the adult so naturally, he should be leader. My complaint is that there is absolutely no development between Isabella and Doofenshmirtz but yet, a mere twenty minutes later Doofenshmirtz believes that Isabella is a deserving leader and saying that he “learnt from the best” yet there is no example of Isabella being the natural leader that she is.
Moving away from my problems with the plot, I felt that the jokes and gags in the movie weren’t as hilarious as other jokes in episodes or AT2D. I read a review from Variety and Polygon which had high praise for the movie, which includes “ jokes about support groups, power ballads, Cubism, talk-show obsequiousness, plus a very funny song called “Adulting,” about how adults justify their judgment with no good reason.” (Variety) and “The movie is still chock full of bubbly humor. The show excelled at comedic timing, effectively using beats, cutaway gags, and fourth-wall breaking.” And while I agree with the second half, the movie missed some of the benchmarks of Phineas and Ferb-level humour. The jokes in the movie were uncomfortably off-beat and repetitive, heavily relying on comedic timing and dead air for audiences to laugh. The comedic timing was unsuccessful and dare I say, too long and too often. The jokes couldn’t have been more obvious, they were pretty much lit up with fireworks and a huge neon sign that said “You should laugh here! This is a joke that is funny and you can laugh here! That’s what this awkward empty space is for.” After a brief scan of AT2D there were jokes that didn’t feel forced or obviously meant for certain audiences - like one of the aliens ‘flossing’ which feels a little outdated even for 2020.
As mentioned earlier, after writing my own Phineas and Ferb script I have a much larger appreciation for the work put into a single episode. Povenmire and Marsh out-do themselves with each episode and it’s impressive; I admire their work so much. Now, I don’t know if it’s because I went into the mindset of knowing what makes Phineas and Ferb great, this movie felt lacking in the original appeal that the episodes had. The characters didn’t have the depth they usually had, the songs weren’t as catchy, the jokes weren’t as funny and the plot wasn’t as strong. It felt rushed; and I don’t know if they were but there could’ve been so much more depth and (irony not included) dimension.
I have the same opinion with Frozen 2, it felt rushed so there wasn’t as much depth as the first movie. And, they were rushed with the movie; in the docu-series Into the Unknown: The making of Frozen 2, so many elements in the final movie were added within the last nine months of production. The story was rewritten multiple times when the writers and directors had trouble deciding who Elsa was hearing calling out to her. They just had to choose at that point which made the story feel rushed and bunched. It’s like rolling up a yoga mat, you start off neat and even but when you get near the end and your friends have already packed up, you haphazardly roll up the mat, so now it’s pointed at one end and looks like an ice cream cone.
Don’t get me wrong, I still watched the entire thing and there was one scene at the end that I enjoyed but it just didn’t live up to my expectations. And that’s totally okay; it was appealing to their target audience and hit all the notes of a Phineas and Ferb movie. It’s simply that I had my expectations extremely high.
I give Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe 5.5 Stars out of 10

Ace Attorney AU based on that one episode of Phineas and Ferb ( titled “Split Personality” ) where Candace gets split into the two halves of her personality (as the name would suggest) with one being the silly one enamoured with Jeremy and the other being the determined one who wants to bust her brothers but it’s Phoenix and he gets split into his silly, goofy, artsy side and his more serious, closed off attorney side
Also a little bit of Chonny Jash just for my friend @itsnotjustgibberish because they said how this is like Heart and Mind and I have no idea what they mean but I drew the Phoenixes in their CJ Heart and Mind designs for the silly
And I just realized I never finished fixing Feenie’s hand in the second image but eh it’s fine
