Agreed. Even the times when they were in their darkest moments wasn’t always their fault or Bruce’s for that matter. Dick’s darkest moment came because of Crisis on Infinite Earths (before the transition to Nightwing was met with support and Dick passed down his Robin mantle to Jason and not Bruce), Jason’s darkest moment was either because Superboy Prime decided to fuck things up or the Lazarus Pit, Tim’s darkest moments was after his parents were fridged in order to unfridge them and Damian’s darkest moments were from how he was raised to be a killer. Each of them were not often at fault for their darkest moments. They just happened and they had to deal with them.

I do agree with this. Tim’s parents weren’t perfect, but it wasn’t like they were abusive or terrible. For god sakes, Tim’s mother was sick most of the time and his dad did his damn hardest to be a good father. Tim became as skilled and clever as he is because he had parents that loved him and gave him the support he needed growing up.

It’s not to say they never made mistakes. Parents make mistakes under stressful or terrible circumstances. With a sick mother and his dad having to constantly leave Tim at a boarding school to make ends meet, of course he was going to make mistakes, terrible mistakes in fact. That doesn’t make Tim’s parents terrible or abusive people. Making them abusive, to me, ruins what made Tim Drake who he is. He was an independent little boy confident in his skills as Robin that embraced the mantle because he saw Batman was getting hurt from a lack of Robin and wanted to save him. He was the one that brought Robin back from the dead. Tim was the one that went through a stage of self discovery and grief due to losing his parents. His dark stage in life as Red Robin was due to the grief he faced from losing his parents because he faced it differently than most, even Bruce and Dick. No one should take that away from him and boil it down to “bad parenting” for his parents. They were good parents that made mistakes and that’s okay. Not every good parent has to be perfect.

I want less of "the Drakes were terrible people and parents and Bruce rescues poor sad Timmy" (not knocking the trope it just got old for me)

And more of Bruce suffering a hell of his own creation as he tries to figure out how to parent Timothy "latchkey kid" Drake, who doesn't respect the concept of having parental supervision in general and more specifically Bruce's authority as his new guardian at all, because Tim was basically his caretaker for the entire beginning of his tenure as Robin

Any kind of Parental Action would have Bruce choking in his own hypocrisy. Like... imagine trying to get your teenage son to go to bed when he's been putting your ass down for naps for like, years, by that point. Imagine telling him to eat healthier when at 13 years old he was helping your butler with designing your meal plan 'cause you were too depressed to eat

Bruce gently tries to get him to stop working on a case to take a break, and Tim raises a single withering eyebrow (he learned this from Alfred) and Bruce immediately shuts up. Tim only listens to Bruce when he wants to and being legally adopted by the man hasn't changed that

Damian’s birthday had already passed by the time it was recorded, so it’s up for interpretation when that is. The most we get is that it was a few days ago before it was on record. The whole point is to show the ages being 3-2 years apart, something confirmed by Tom Taylor himself, and that comics don’t pay that close enough attention to ages. I doubt they even know Tim’s age.

Whether it’s okay or not is irrelevant, since we can go all day about whom we should or shouldn’t be dating. In this case, I was making it a point originally to let us have our fun. We understand DamiJon isn’t canon. Some of us ship DamiNika and most of us DamiJon’s prefer it to NOT be canon.

This is why you’re a joke right now. You’re so intent on grasping on “meh age gap” that you had completely missed the point of my post. We know DamiJon isn’t canon, the line was an Easter Egg, let us have our fun and crying about age gaps aren’t proving anything. Even if it was 3-4 years, that’s still not proving anything. That’s not even the same datable criteria DC holds for their characters. They would not give two fucks if Flatline turned out to be three years older than Damian. If you had been homeschooled, you WILL be sent to the lowest grade possible. It’s happened to Damian before in the Super Sons, thus why he was in Middle School with Jon at age 13 and not in Junior High. Thats what happened to me and my siblings because we were all Homeschooled.

Comics don’t show birthdays often. Damian has only had two record birthdays and since his last one (14 years) Lazarus Island, Failsafe, Shadow Wars, Bat vs Rob, Lazarus Planet, Frightmare and Gotham War happened. Furthermore, Jon turned 18 (was 17 when Dami turned 14) and since Damian is 2-3 years younger than him, that would make Damian 15-16. You don’t just change their age difference to be higher just because Dami’s age wasn’t announced. Tim’s age isn’t announced either since he was 17, but that doesn’t mean he never aged passed 17.

WAS 14. That was the last Damian’s age was known and has since aged. He’d be 15-16 now since he’s going to High School and seems to have a driver’s license (legally can’t until 16 even if you had driving skills). In this comic, he’s 28 at least. You’re not making a case lol.

The funny thing about Batcest is that not every Bat Fam member being paired up is problematic or incest. Hell, TimJason would’ve not been incest had Tim’s parents not been fridged in the first place (he was originally created as the only Robin with no familial connection to Bruce and the moment he did, he became Red Robin). Robin and Batgirl had been the canon couple since day 1 and it was Damian that broke that mold (though did have a moment with Cassandra that went just as it came).

I like the idea of Damian and Cassandra having that familial relationship because it breaks the mold of a Batgirl needing to be paired with Robin. I would love for Damian and Cassandra to work together often as sibling partners. They share similar personalities and backstories of blood. I want to see more of their dynamic.

There are also those that will argue that 2-3 years is still too much. Like… no, it’s not. Then, they’ll refer to the maturity level of a 10 and 13 year old, which I’m like, “I find it weird you think I ship them at that age.” One once tried to argue with me that I can’t ship characters if I have to age them up, which then I responded by referring to Canon Jon meeting Injustice Damian where they’re the same age and Tom King’s run where they’re already legal adults.

Had they had an ounce of brain cells, they’d have taken the time to look it up and find out dating someone 3-2 years older than you is actually not as problematic as they claim it is or even illegal. Legality only comes into play when sex or porn is involved and that’s mostly talking about age of consent and crap.

Peers for youths are in the five year range (not to misunderstand this to mean that 13 years old has the same level of maturity as someone 18). Within that range, most youths will pay more attention to if they LOOK their age than the actual age itself. There are 13-year-olds that look 16 and 16-year-olds that look 20. If they look close to the same age, most people won’t pay that close attention. Jon and Damian may as well be the same age in the next ten years.
