hey, i really appreciate the posts you've made shining a light on what actually happens within tumblr, i've always wondered. i hope your new job is going well!
very belated response as i clear out my inbox! thank you :)
i know a couple of automatticians are keeping an eye on my blog at this point so this is an update for the ones who haven't got other ways to talk to me more than for tumblr in general.
the new job's going well. as i've mentioned, i was at automattic for six years, and it was my first real experience of working outside the sex industry. coming into a workplace that is differently dysfunctional, where things are a mess not because higher-ups don't value their workers but because they've grown too fast to give people the consistency and structure they want to give, has been eye-opening.
so much of the stuff i thought was normal and probably better than everyone else in tech just... isn't. my work is valued, i receive good and useful feedback, and i'm doing things which actually measurably have an impact. all jobs are jobs, of course, and there are things the company will never be able to do perfectly, but it's a hell of a lot better. i'm excited about the work i do. i get to actually choose my hours, and my current contract is, well, actually legal, which automattic's was not.
if you're a happiness engineer like i was: you deserve better! better is out there! that supporthuman.cx site which posted the great writeup on matt seems to do a roundup of support roles regularly, though those will likely often be US-based.
and: if you work or worked for automattic, need to vent, and don't have other ways to get in touch: [email protected], hit me up.
one thing automattic did right was somehow pulling in this immense group of the most skilled, thoughtful, dedicated support staff, then fucking them all over. i believe in you. i think that your skills, even if you (like many APAC HEs and like myself) think they're too specific to translate to hireability in another company, will be valued elsewhere.

"Charlie! Charlie! Charlie!"
Joris cackled as he heard the tiny voice come from outside the room. His phone was no longer interesting as he threw a couch pillow to his sleeping friend on the couch, making him grumble and turn his position to the side.
“Charles,” Joris called out.
The driver hummed, his eyes still shut.
"Your little friend is looking for you.” Joris tilted his head when a soft knock came from the door along with the tiny voice, the same one that had been calling his friend from the garage.
"Charlie? Is there anyone inside?"
"Come in, Adam.” To that, the door slowly creaked open as the little kid walked in. He was holding a cute-looking carnosaurus in his small hand and peeked inside to find the friend he was looking for asleep.
"Oh? Charlie’s sleeping!"
Joris stifled his laugh as Adam started tiptoeing inside the room with his pointy finger against his pouty lips. "It’s okay; just talk like you normally do. Charles could sleep through an earthquake. Why are you looking for him?"
He scrambled his way on the couch with full struggle without letting go of the toy in his hand before he finally replied to Joris’ question. "I want to show Charlie my new watch! Look! It has a dinosaur on it!"
"Mommy bought it?” Joris queried.
"No. Daddy bought it! It’s my first gift from him!” He giggled and squirmed when Charles softly poked at his waist as he slowly got out of his drowsy, somnolent state. "Charlie’s awake!"
"Charles, I’m heading out for a while. See you, Adam. Make sure Charlie doesn’t fall asleep anymore. He has work to do.”
Adam waved to Joris as he made his way out as Charles sat up, yawning from his short nap.
"Bye bye, Joris! Charlie, look!" Adam nearly punched him in the face with his enthusiasm. That would have knock the sleepiness out of him right away. The driver then focused on the watch Adam has been excited to show to him. It was a kids watch in blue with a picture of a dinosaur.
"That’s so cool! Did you go out with your dad?” He grasped the tiny wrist and scanned through the details of the watch.
"We didn’t because daddy was busy, but he bought me a gift!” Adam cupped on his own cheeks and swayed his body left and right, remembering what it felt like to hang out with his dad forever.
"My watch is cool too. Look." It was Charles’ turn to show his as he extended his arm, a cocky smile was plastered on his face.
"Yours doesn’t have a dinosaur like mine!”
﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎
"Hey." He sneaked closer behind your back and leaned down, whispering in your ear. Charles had been trying to find you all alone so he could spend some time with you, but you were either hooked by a group meeting or had to be accompanied by a few other colleagues.
"Hi! Are you looking for Adam? He’s back at the hotel early with my colleague." You closed the door as he followed behind.
"No, I’m looking for you. You are not ignoring me, are you? Because I haven’t seen you since Friday."
"No?" You laughed as you saw him nearly slipped down the stairs as you turned back. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Almost died there.”
You then stopped in your tracks so he could walk with your pace by your side. "I’m not ignoring you. There were a lot of things I needed to get done before next month. Congratulations on the points, by the way!” You turned your body, facing the driver, as your ponytail swayed along.
"Thank you. It could have been podium if I got to see your face before the race." He cackled as you pulled a face at his flirty attempts. "Oh, Adam told me his dad took him out. You told me they had never spent time together. Why all of a sudden?"
The grin on your face was washed off instantly as you pressed your lips into a thin line. This whole thing about your ex-husband was never ending. "I..forced him to. Adam heard kids his age talk about going out with their dads, and he asked me what it was like. His dad kept on telling me he didn’t have money to take Adam out, so I gave him the money only for him to keep most of it for himself."
"So he didn’t actually take Adam out? Give me that.” You handed him the files and laptop bag you had been holding as he took them, leaving you with free hands.
"No. I found out later on that Adam told me he was busy, so they hung out in his house eating takeout while he watched a football match.”
"Adam seemed to be fully satisfied with it, though." He remembered the brightest smile he saw soon as he opened his eyes from his afternoon nap yesterday.
"He just wanted to spend time with him. I don’t know, Charles. I feel like…" It felt so hard to come up with any words that could explain your feelings. You wanted to say you wished you hadn’t made a decision to marry him, but you couldn’t imagine your life without Adam. "I feel like I failed at giving him the life he deserved."
"Don’t say that. Just because he was an irresponsible parent doesn’t mean you fail at doing your part.” He saw you asked for your stuffs and was hesitant to give them because his actual plan was to ask you to go back with him.
"I don’t know. Sorry for ruining the mood. I better get going.” You took back your stuff and were heading towards your friend when he tugged on your wrist.
"Will you be at home this week?"
You turned around and looked at him in confusion. "Yeah. Why?"
“I just wanted to drop by."
﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎
"Mommy, Charlie is here”! Adam tugged his little arm from your grip while you were trying to fix his hair, and he scampered, a little wobbly with his unlace shoes to get the door.
"Adam!" You yelled out and heard his little voice apologise for leaving you as he struggled to unlock the door.
"I can't—Charlie, I can’t open the door! Oh, it’s open!” He stepped back as Charles peeped in, making the little one laughed. "Your head looks like it’s floating!"
"Hey, munchkin!" He bent down and cradled his little friend’s head as Adam hugged his legs.
"Mommy said I should get ready because you are picking me up. Where are we going, Charlie? Mommy won’t tell me.” He shook his foot as the shoelaces flailing around him made him giggle.
"It’s a secret. You’ll know when we get there.” Charles crouched down and tied the shoelaces before he ran back to you.
"Mommy’s really not coming?"
You shook your head and continued fixing his fluffy hair as he leaned against your chest. "No. It’s just you and Charlie. I’ll be at home."
"Is it okay to leave mommy alone?"
Your heart melted at his worried face as he leaned away from hugging you. "I’ll be all fine, honey. I’ll call Charlie right away if I need any help."
"No! Don’t call Charlie! Call me!" He patted his chest proudly at the suggestion.
"You don’t have any phones, sweetheart.” You laughed and patted his belly.
"I’m using the same phone number as Charlie. Right, Charlie?" Adam looked up and pulled Charles’ finger to get him to back him up.
"Oh, yes! Ring me, and Adam will be the one saying hi.” Charles beamed at the sight of the little one attacking you with kisses before he made his way.
"Let’s go, Charlie!” He held Charles’s pinky finger as both of them made their way to the door, with you following behind.
"Are you sure you don’t mind taking him out?” You voiced your worry, though it was the driver’s idea in the first place. "I don’t want you to feel obligated just because we like each other.”
"It’s a casual hangout day between friends, right, Adam? Don’t worry about it too much, Y/N. I was the one who wanted to take him out. He—"
"Charlie, let’s go! He yelled out.
You gave Charles’ arm a squeeze as Adam pulled him to step out of the house. "You should go now. He’s all handsome and excited."
﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎
"Charlie! Look at that!” He pointed at the long-neck creature on the left, which made Charles arch his brows.
It turned out Adam’s knowledge of dinosaurs wasn’t just ‘dinosaurs’. He knew every single one ever since they stepped inside the dinosaur land whole Charles had to continuously read every board so he could figure out the names.
"What is his name?” Adam blinked and waited for an answer eagerly.
"Oh? The name? I’m not—I'm not sure about that, buddy. Give me a second.” Charles went in front of the board as he scanned through the paragraphs. "It’s cama—what even is this? Camarasaurus?"
"I thought it was Isisaurus! It looked really similar!” Adam stared at the big, life-sized dinosaur sculptures in amazement.
“Isi—whatever the name was, does it have a long neck like this one too?” Charles was pretty sure this was the 50th dinosaur’s name that had ever come out of that little mouth, yet not only he remembered nothing, he could barely repeat any of them.
"Yes! But it’s not as tall as Brachiosaurus!” He squealed and ran a little far, joining a few groups of kids as the sculptures made another round of noise.
"Yeah, my brain is definitely shutting down.” He mumbled and fished out his phone, joining the little one as he looked up at a different-looking sculpture. "Adam, I’m sending a picture to mommy. Smile!"
"Charlie, wait! Can I show my watch too?” He made a little hop and fixed his watch as he lifted his forearm up to the side of his cheeky face, which melted Charles’ heart from the cuteness.
"There you go! I’m sending this one to mommy, yeah?" He chose the most recent picture and clicked on the send button, as it was ticked as delivered right away.
"Tell mommy I miss her too!"
﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎
"Adam said he misses you."
"Also, how is he so smart? He kept on throwing dinosaurs’ names left and right without even seeing the board. I have never felt so humiliated in my life."
"Everything is just dinosaurs to me. I don’t think they deserve a name."
You cackled at the texts you got. When Charles took Adam out, you decided to get your hair done as well as a fresh set of nails with your girlfriends. You hadn’t seen your friends for a while, and it was really fun to be able to catch up with them, updating on whatever happened in each other’s lives. You smiled fondly as your thumb traced the picture of your son on your phone screen, showing off his little watch.
﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎
"Hi, mommy!" Charles handed the little one a paper bag full of new dinosaurs with different shapes and sizes of boxes that were equally big as his frame after you opened the door.
"Look! Charlie bought me new toys!"
You gasped as you peeked inside the bag. "That’s a lot! Charles—"
"It’s okay. He only asked for one, but I wanted him to get the others as well because they are actually pretty cool. Right, Adam? There was this one that flipped its tail, like,”
"Ankylosaurus! The tail can actually move, mommy!” Adam interrupted, and his eyes sparkled with merriment.
"Yeah, whatever that rus was.” Charles scratched the back of his neck as he shrugged. He had given up trying to remember the name because, looking back, they all sounded the same. He was pretty sure he could just throw random words and end it with saurus, and he would get a new dinosaur’s name. While he was too busy recalling the names, you leaned in and left a peck on his cheek, which made him freeze.
"Thank you." You brought your gaze down and locked eyes with Adam as he giggled.
"I think Charlie really likes you, mommy!"
"Okay, buddy. There’s no need to say my feelings out loud.” He laughed as the little one ran to his room. The paper bag swayed and hit his body. "I hope I make his day.”
"Are you kidding? That’s all he’s going to talk about for the rest of the week.” You laughed along, and hands went on his chest as he pulled you closer.
"What did you do today? Did you do something to your hair?"
You brought your hands up and hovered them over your eyes. "I got my hair trimmed and my nails done. What do you think?"
"It’s pretty. Is pretty the right word to compliment nails?” He queried, brows knitted. "It compliments your beautiful eyes so much. Oh, I’ll be going back to Monaco tomorrow. Are you sure you don’t want to tag along until the next race? It’ll only be what, 4 days?
"No, I’m going to my parents’ house tomorrow. They haven’t seen Adam for a while. I’ll see you in the paddock?"
"Call me, alright?” Charles brushed his lips on your forehead and bended down as Adam ran back to his embrace. "See you in my next race, Adam."
"Bye, Charlie! I’ll take care of mommy for you!" He cupped Charles’ cheeks with his little hands.
﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎
"I got it!” You heard Adam’s voice beat on you as he rushed to open the door.
You put your folded clothes aside and left the bedroom while he struggled to pull the big door with the doorbell ringing continuously.
"Daddy!" He managed to eagerly greet the adult before his little body was pushed aside as your ex-husband stamped inside with a scowl on his face.
"Fuck off. Where’s that bitch?"
"What is wrong with you?!” You howled and tried to walk past him to get to your son, who was on the floor, sobbing as he clutched his wrist.
"Me? What’s wrong with me, you asked? Tell me why my son’s face is all over the internet hanging out with a random guy. Are you fucking insane? Weren’t you the one who fucking begged to have full custody over him, and then what? You woke up one day leaving my fucking son with your douchebag just so you could what? Get these done?” He yanked your hair harshly as you yelped from the pain. "You trying to use all these to flirt your way just so you fill up that hole with fresh sticks?"
"Daddy, stop! You are hurting, mommy!” Adam stood back on and used every force to hit on your ex-husband’s leg just so he would let go of you.
"This isn’t about you! Fuck off, worthless.” He swung back his free arm and landed his hand on the flushed cheeks as Adam fell down on his bump.
"Leave him alone! Hit me all you want. Don’t touch him! Please.." You tugged on his arm back as you went in front to kneel down on the floor and cradled Adam’s head in your arms. His small arms immediately clung to your shirt as he hid his face away from his dad.
"Next time I’m seeing him hanging out with someone else, you’ll be dead. I’m still alive and capable enough to be his father. I don’t need someone else to take over my fucking role.” He gave your head a hard shove before he left as Adam wailed and whimpered in your arms. He had never cried this terrible before. He was trembling, even, that you had to calm him down until he fell asleep.
﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎
"Where are you going?” Andrea curved his brow as the driver left the meeting right as it ended, without even sparing a glance at anyone else.
"I’m going to see Adam. He should have come and met me hours ago, but I don’t think I have seen him at all. I’ll be right back.” He took his phone and paced to the room where the kid would usually hang out with his colouring books.
Charles softly knocked on the door and waited for a response, which didn’t come. He then twisted the knob and took a step inside, where he saw Adam with the dinosaurs he bought for him a few days ago, all scattered on the table. Though the setting was normal, it was actually unusual because the kid didn’t call his name and didn’t come dashing into him as he usually did. Charles also didn’t get any candy from him today.
"Hey, Adam! What are you doing?” He took a spot next to the little one as Adam handed him one of the toys, one with a fierce-looking face.
"Hi, Charlie.. You can take this one.” Adam’s voice trailed off as he rested his chin on his forearm, completely ignoring the driver.
"What’s the name of this one?” The driver twisted the head of the dinosaur so it would be facing left before placing it on the table.
"That’s Spinosaurus.."
"Adam, what’s wrong?" Charles ruffled the toddler’s hair to get his attention, which was working as Adam whirled his head to look at Charles. "You are not wearing your watch! Where is it?"
"It’s in my bag.." Adam rubbed his eyes and turned around to look at his blue backpack that was placed on the couch.
"Go get it! Let me help you put it on.” He patted on the flushed cheeks as the kid scooted away from the table and he tottered to get his bag, the. took his spot back beside the driver with the backpack covering half of his face. Charles helped him to open the bag as the chubby little arm fished inside it to get the watch.
The driver’s eyes widen when he sees the state of the watch. The acrylic glass watch was cracked; a few bits of the glass at the corner were long gone, revealing little holes straight to the numbers and watch hands with a dinosaur picture. The watch wasn’t even working anymore. It was clearly dead, as it was still pointed at 12PM. “What happened to your watch, Adam?"
The little one didn't say anything, but he started wiping the back of his chubby hands against his cheeks as the tears started flowing down uncontrollably.
"Did you fall? What happened?"
"Daddy…" He struggled to form any words and started sobbing; his shoulders shook as he breathed in. Charles pulled the little arms away from the crimson face, tugging on it as Adam stood up so Charles could hold the trembling little frame in his arms. "Daddy.."
"Charles, you need to get ready.” Andrea peeked his head inside and closed the door back as he ran back to the garage.
"Adam—" Charles breathed out.
Adam pulled away and wiped his wet eyes with his forearms before the adult could continue his sentence. "Good luck, Charlie!” He managed to form a smile and make a little fist which was still a little shaky as he silently wept
"I’ll find you back in here after the practise round, alright?” He wiped off the stray tears and softly pinch on the cheeks, which made the little one giggle.
"Look!" He stumbled back to his little friends and arranged them all to face drivers, stopping time to time to wipe off the tears and clapped his hands as he was completely satisfied with the presentation. "They said good luck to you too!"
"I’ll definitely ace the practise round for you and your... um, rausus friends. Don’t cry, alright? See you, munchkin.”
﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎
"Adam, we are going back, sweetheart.” You walked to him and kissed the crown of his head as you took his backpack.
"But," He stood up and filled his arms with the row of reptile toys as he tilted his head to look at you. "But Charlie asked me to wait for him, mommy."
"I thought you were hungry, love. We are going to eat.” You bent down so he could stuff his toys inside the backpack.
"It’s okay, I’m not hungry! I can wait for Charlie.” He gave a little thumbs up and chuckled when you laughed.
"Alright, then. We’ll wait for Charlie."
﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎
"Charlie!" Adam squealed when Charles walked in, around half an hour after.
"Hi! Oh, you are all packed?” He ruffled Adam’s hair and smiled as his gaze landed on you on the couch.
"We are going to eat! Can Charlie join us, mommy?” His small hand was secured in Charles’ grip as he grinned cheekily at you.
"I can’t, Adam. I need to stay back a little while because I have things to do, but I’ll see you in a few hours. Is it okay?” He looked up to you, silently waiting for your approval, as he didn’t want to bother if you wanted to rest.
"Of course. I’m sure Adam doesn’t mind. Right, Adam?" The end of your mouth tilted as you looked at the little one while you took the lead, walking out of the room, followed by the boys.
"Yes! Oh! Charlie, were you fast?” Adam stopped walking as he waited for Charles’s answer.
"What do you mean? Ah, the practise round? Yeah! I got first place thanks to you."
"And my friends!” He jumped out of excitement; the sound of the toys shaking against each other could be heard as the backpack moved.
"Yeah! And you too.” Charles winked at you, which made you roll your eyes with a beam.
﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎
"Hey, pretty. Mind if I take Adam out?” Charles went straight away with his question the minute you opened the door to your hotel room.
"Right now?" You blinked.
"Yeah, just for a while. We’ll be back before dinner. Just text me what you want to eat.” Friday wasn’t as packed as other days. He normally would stay in his room to take enough rest before another practise and qualifying round tomorrow, but he spent hours trying to find the closest store on Google, and the nearest was just a few minutes away so it would be a waste to miss this chance because he knew he wouldn’t be free by tomorrow, moreover on the actual race day.
"Adam?" You called out, opening the door a little wider.
"Yes, mommy?" Adam came running, his voice a little shaky from his wobbly cheeks.
"Charlie is taking you out for a while. Is it okay for you?” Your hand went to the back of his head as he hugged your leg. You saw his face light up as he waved at Charles.
"Okay!" He agreed right away and grasped Charles’ hand. "But where are we going?"
"Somewhere. Let’s go before it’s closed!"
﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎
Charles looked down as he heard Adam giggled. "Charlie, look at that! The puppy is so cute!” He giggled again, and his steps became more leisure as he waited for the fluff to walk past him. "The tail was like,” He shook his free hand vigorously to imitate the tail, which made Charles throw his head back and laugh and they continued walking.
"Oh! There’s flowers!" He pointed at the flower shop in front of him, seemingly to be very intriguing to the little one, as he stopped and tugged on the driver’s hand. "Can I buy one, Charlie?"
"But what? The flowers?" Charles looked at the flower shop in front of him and back at the kid.
"I want to buy one for mommy! Oh, wait..." He patted his small hand against the pocket of his pants and pursed his lips. "I don’t have any money..”
"Let’s go." He took the lead and went into the shop as Adam looked around, looking amazed at the selections.
"Hi! How may I help you?” The florist greeted them, bending down to greet the little one.
"I want to buy flowers for mommy! She likes yellow!” Adam replied, his gaze followed the florist as she took a single sunflower from her left.
"I think your mom will like this one!"
"Yes! Charlie, can I get this one?” He looked up and swayed his little hand that was in Charles’ grip. "Please?"
"Can I get it in a bouquet, please?” The driver’s request was being done right away as she went to get a bunch of the flowers to get them wrapped up in craft paper.
"Please make it pretty too!” Adam added.
﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎
Charles and Adam walked into the store as the driver greeted the owner, while the little one looked around with the bouquet in his arm that he insisted on holding.
"Hi. I texted you earlier regarding the item?” He came up to the counter while the owner got himself busy as he went to get the item that was mentioned.
Adam stayed silent, his hand still holding Charles’ as he softly sang what he believed was a dinosaur song while playing with his foot. “I'm a dinosaur, dinosaur! Oh, I am a dinosaur..." Charles had to bit his lips to hold his chuckle so he wouldn't interrupt the little performance and tilted his head back as the owner walked back with a small, square box.
"Would you like to try it first?"
"Yeah." He retrieved the watch and bent down, cutting off Adam’s little song. "Adam, try this one."
He looked down at what Charles had in his hand and squealed. "It’s a dinosaur watch! It’s a dinosaur watch! Is it for me?"
"Yeah! Let’s put it on you.” He hopped in place, unable to contain his excitement, while Charles secured the green-coloured, brand new watch around his plump wrist. "Do you like it?"
"Yes! Yes! It looks like a stegosaurus!” He pointed at the frame, which sort of looked like the plates of the dinosaurs.
"That’s what I thought too. I just couldn’t remember the name of the dinosaur.” He stopped Adam’s little hand as he tried to take it off in order for him to put it back in the box. "It’s okay. Just keep on wearing it. You look handsome, munchkin.” He the continued with the bills as they walked out to the final place of the day to get some takeout for dinner.
﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎
"Hi! Did you have fun? You moved your head away from getting hit in the face with the plastic that was wrapped around the flower bouquet that your little one was holding.
"Mommy, look! I bought this for you! Oh, Charlie did.” You took the flowers as he hugged your neck.
"Nah, he bought it himself. I should definitely step up my flirting game.” Charles walked inside after you and locked the door as Adam and you settled on the cosy couch.
"It’s so pretty, sweetheart! It’s mommy’s favourite colour too.” You hugged the bouquet in your arms and pecked at his little cheeks, as the green coloured thing that was secured on his wrist caught your attention. "Oh? What’s that?" You asked, taking his left arm closer to you.
"Oh! Charlie gave me this new watch! It’s so pretty, mommy! Look!" He seemed to remember about the watch now only when you pointed it out, so it was his turn to carry on the conversation. "It has dinosaurs at the back and here too! He pointed at the green dinosaur by the strap and squealed.
You looked at Charles as he stared at Adam lovingly, which made you smile, before focusing back on his little chat.
﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎﹎
"Is he asleep? He scooted a little to the side so you would get comfortable in his arms. He had left you to tuck Adam in while he played around with the remote control, switching from channels to channels as he waited for you to come back.
"Yeah." You rested your head on his chest after you made yourself comfortable on the couch, eyes staring at the television. You felt his hand on your back as he leaned his cheek against your hair. "I don’t think I could ever pay back everything you did to him."
"I’m not doing it just so I could get something back in return, love. Don’t be silly.” He then went silent for a while, wondering if this was the perfect time to bring up the topic. "Why didn’t you tell me what happened?"
You breathed in, knowing he would bring it up sooner or later after Adam told you he cried in front of the driver earlier. “It was a few days away from the weekend. I didn’t want you to worry about something else when your focus should be on your career." You looked up and saw him look in dismay at your words. "I’m sorry."
"There’s no need to argue about something that has happened.” His hand cupped on your cheek as he dipped his head to kiss your forehead. "I called my lawyer to ask him to get you a restraining order against him. Perhaps this way it will be easier for you instead of waiting for a response from the authority."
"But—"
"I’m not taking a no this time, Y/N. He told me he would need you to fill out a few forms as well as physical evidence; can you do that?” He gave your shoulder a squeeze as you sat up straight to look at him.
"Yeah… I do keep some evidence from his text messages and police report, but Charles, I don’t think I could afford to pay your lawyer.”
He frowned as he tilted your chin up. "Did I even say anything about money?  All I said was forms and evidence, Y/N."
"But you had done more than enough. I can’t—"
"Okay, then be my girlfriend.”
"What?" Your words were stuck in your throat as you looked at him in disbelief.
"That’s the only way I’ll accept a payment from you. Be my girlfriend when we get all these things settled."
"Silly." You scrunched your nose, hand went to pinch on his cheek as he laughed before pulling you to lay down with him and spend the rest of the night without having to worry about a dinosaur’s name.
“You know what, I kept on humming Adam’s dinosaur song. I think it’s stuck in my head. Do you happen to know the full song?”
“I can send you the video with lyrics?”

Summary: you and Chris both work in a tattoo & piercing gallery, and your toxic ex just won’t leave you alone… so Chris decides to shut him up and put him in his place.
Author’s notes: I’m baaack. someone’s seriously got to stop me from making up fics on stuff that I’ve just randomly yapped about and blogged for fun. Me: posting about tattoos I’d think Chris would look good with. Also me: ‘-now hang on a sec that’s actually given me a great idea…’ *pulls out a notebook and starts vigorously writing shit down*.

“Gotta know, I ate her, she's so sweet, now or later. I want that all the time, all the time I'll make you all mine” - Toes Down, Loukeman
. ♱ .
You sigh, checking your phone once again before flipping it back around to face the desk. You shake your head and put it into your hands to rub it slowly in exhaustion. This is the fifth time he’s texted you today and your patience with him was slowly thinning.
‘You good?’
Chris mumbles absentmindedly from his hunched over position at the counter. He has his shirt off - as he usually does - to keep himself cool as the ceiling fan whirls above your heads. You look at his back, and the way his light wash blue jeans wrap around his lean waist lowly.
His right arm moves languidly as he sketches out a stencil for one of his clients, the graphite of his lead pencil scratching against his favourite sketchbook soothingly in the otherwise quiet atmosphere of the tattoo parlour.
You admire the jet black ink adorning his torso, that stretches from the bottom of his spine to cover the expanse of his shoulder blades in jaggedly aggressive patterns, the back tattoo attractively sat over his otherwise soft skin.
The muscles wrapped around his shoulders move as he draws, and you can’t help but swallow thickly at the sight of them.
‘Yeah… I’m fine’
You reply, not at all convinced by your own weak attempt of trying to mask your obvious distaste for the sight of the messages on your Lock Screen whilst you shuffle about trying to clean a needle gun.
‘Oh really? Cos’ I’m hearin’ a great deal of sighing for your corner of the room and not alotta action…’
Chris sarcastically snorts back, his voice containing buckets of care masked within the joking manner. He doesn’t even bother turning his face, far too absorbed by the current drawing of a tiger he was doing on someone’s chest in a couple of weeks time whilst he expertly shaded in the small black stripes of its rippling body.
You pause for a minute, debating on whether or not you should actually tell Chris about what’s been going on. It’s your ex. And Chris doesn’t like him at all. So how is he going to react when you tell him he’s been quite literally harassing you for the past couple of weeks?
Not well is your guess…
Even though you two are co-workers, you share an extremely close relationship and tell each other practically everything, which sometimes readily blurs the lines between your strictly professional work ethics.
‘Ugh fine, it’s Max, he’s just sort of been bothering me lately…’
This catches Chris’ attention, and his head perks up. Craning his neck he looks back at you with narrowing eyes of suspicious icy blue.
From this angle over his shoulder you can see the gleam of his silver nose ring, and his torso twists just enough to reveal a new tattoo. One that you actually did on him yourself.
It was a delicate but bold patchwork tattoo of a large black widow spider, its long spindly legs stretching across the expanse of his ribs and looking like it was using them to scale up his chest. You struggle to hide a smile at being able to remember doing it on him so well.
You can easily recall the faint buzz of the needle gun and Chris’ soft occasional groans as you punched in the bulbous back of the widow’s body onto his skin that rose and fell to the rhythm of his exhales.
It must have been a sensitive part of Chris’ body because his breathing had been raggedy and his eyes had been squeezed shut for a majority of the tattoo. You had faintly mumbled ‘cool spider… you draw it yourself?’ To which he had responded with a grunt and an affectionate ‘duh’.
Whenever his eyes had opened to look at you they had been dilated heavily, with either pain or pleasure, you’re not quite sure.
He glares over at you and shakes his head. ‘Not this fucking idiot again… what’s he done this time?’.
Chris’ patience for Max has never been there, and he’s often one to be petty about every single move your ex boyfriend makes.
Chris has never liked him and so rejoiced when he heard from you that the break up had been messy on his side of the bargain.
Max was trouble, and so you had done the right thing when breaking things off with him. However, Max wasn’t one to easily let go, and he had been pestering you to take him back ever since.
‘Just being his normal asshole self I suppose’.
You’re deliberately vague with Chris, because you don’t want him to get all riled up like he usually does. He had given up his sketch now and had fully turned to lean his back and elbows onto the counter, knowing that you telling him this information was far more important than the task at hand.
His eyes then flick to the door of the studio, where the welcome sign hangs in the centre of the glass window pane. All around the door are frames of hundreds of different tattoos, all in the different styles of each of the employees that work here. No one else is working today though, it’s just Chris and yourself maning the store.
Chris is a primarily black work realist, and so his designs take up quite a lot of time, their lifelike splendour forking cash loads of money into his bank account whenever a piece is completed.
Multiple clients of his have been here for months as Chris prefers to take his artwork in sessions so the healing isn’t as tenuous.
Quite a few of his previous works have been photographed and framed about the waiting area, just to showcase his impressive ability.
Your area of speciality is more in line with fine line tattoos, you prefer delicacy over all else and likewise, some of your bigger works have been photographed and framed about the shop.
‘You got any more scheduled clients with appointments today?’ Chris spontaneously enquires, and you can tell simply by his face that he is pondering some form of idea within his head that makes you nervous. You hesitate with your response.
‘…Emm- no, I don’t think so?’.
Chris nods mischievously and smirks with his mouth open and his tongue pushing against the side of his teeth playfully.
‘I’m gonna need a little bit more of an explanation than just ‘he’s being an asshole’ then, cherry…’ Chris sing-songs as he pushes himself from off of his slouched position and starts to exit from behind the counter.
The nickname ‘Cherry’ had caught on fairly quickly between the two of you, because Chris had thought that you honestly looked way too sweet to be working in a downtown, grungy tattoo shop. After his first usage of the fond name it had just kind of stuck and now always sounded like molten amber honey dripping from his mouth.
He puts ‘he’s being an asshole’ in knowing quotation marks because he already knows how much of an asshole Max is. He’s experienced it before whenever your ex has decided to show up to your place of work and be a nuisance.
You’re pretty sure you almost had to hold Chris back from planting a right hook into his jaw one time because he had knocked over a bunch of new inks the store had just purchased for everyone’s clients.
Chris’ jaw had clenched immeasurably and you had quickly veered in front of him to plant your palms onto his collarbones after he had taken a large stride towards Max.
You had held him back gently, telling him to take several deep breaths and keep cool whilst you dealt with it.
Well… your version of dealing with it was calmly escorting him out of the shop and reassuring him that you’d see each other later before meekly returning back into the reception area to face a fuming Chris who immediately rolled his eyes and spat a quick ‘I’m gonna ban that bitch from coming in here next time he shows his ratty lookin’ face…’
You had simply sighed, shook your head, and tenderly patted him on the shoulder.
At the present, you squirm nervously when you see the way Chris walks right up to the door, before twisting the heavy duty lock on it and flipping the welcome sign to the side that displayed a big ‘closed’ on the front that was visible to passing strangers.
‘Chris it’s not that big of a deal honestly!’ You try and laugh it off as Chris spins back around. He then walks right up to you.
Grabbing one of the other chairs at the desk you were sitting at, he turns it around so that he can comfortably straddle it.
‘Uhh, well that’s where you’re wrong because it just so happens that my favourite girl’s ex is bothering her, and if she’s gotta problem with it… then so do I’ he sassily bites back, referring to you in the third person as he rests his taut forearms onto the spine of the chair, which gives himself something to lean on.
You have to ignore the way your stomach flips when he calls you his favourite girl, and you shyly flit your eyes to the floor whilst still fumbling around with the tattoo gun.
‘Well um… he just- he just keeps uhh’ you start, stuttering and having to sigh in utter frustration at not even being able to articulate your words properly.
Suddenly your eyes feel hot, and they sting a little. You are not going to cry in front of him. You panic when your voice wobbles and try to regain your composure as Chris looks at you with a worried expression.
‘Hey- hey… s’okay cherry, s’alright. Take your time, I’m here’.
Chris notices your flustered state and coos gentle reassurance at you whilst stretching one of his hands out to softly stroke the ball of your shoulder, right on the section of naked skin where the fabric of your top straps don’t quite reach.
You want to say that Chris is just being friendly, but somehow, the way he touches you tells a different story. It could have just been a harmless pat, but instead he had curled the knuckles of his hand and used them to soothingly skim up and down your skin, slowly, repetitively… almost sensually.
Chris liked any excuse to touch you. You were so soft and supple, a major contrast to his own skin. And he hated seeing a man like that crumple you up like a simple ball of paper and toss you into the trash.
You take one last stuttering breath before continuing.
Gazing at Chris’ soft smile and focusing on the calming gleam of his nose piercing, you find yourself relaxing once again as you take your time to look at each of his individual statement pieces whilst relaying your story.
His silver nose ring, his two lobe piercings that were decorated with spiked metal hoops, and his helix piercing, that came in the form of a small snake charm. It shone in the natural light of the room as it slithered up the expanse of his cartilage and provided a nice distraction for you.
‘I don’t know… h-he’s just saying these disgusting things about my body, and- and how I’m never going to find someone that will treat me better than him in bed. Just general filthy shit like that…’ you mumble, feeling absolutely humiliated and degraded at having to tell Chris about what Max has been saying to you as you sniffle and rub your nose.
As you explain yourself, the motion of Chris stroking your arm slows up significantly, and his little smile fades with every word you speak to him. His eyes narrow, something you noticed he does whenever he’s seething with rage.
‘Gimme your phone, I wanna see these texts’ Chris quips demandingly, using the hand that was once rubbing your skin to unfold itself and silently ask for your phone.
You sigh and hand it to him without much of a fight. You know that there’s no use in trying to argue with Chris when he gets like this. He’s driven, and once he has an idea there’s rarely anything you can do to deter him from it.
He unlocks your phone, already knowing your password, and starts to scroll through the endless shower of sexually abusive messages. You bite your lip as you look at him reading them over.
He sits on the backwards chair with his jean-clad thighs casually spread out, still one arm resting on top of the spine whilst the other one holds the phone and vigorously scrolls downwards.
You then flick your eyes to his face, and the way his rosy lips wet themselves as they quietly announce some of the words that he reads back to himself. The further down he goes the more furrowed his brows get.
Suddenly he shakes his head with an angry tick and slams your phone face down onto the table. You jump slightly at this, and blink at a Chris that had immediately shot to a stand.
‘That’s it, m’not dealing with this shit anymore. If he can’t leave you the fuck alone then I’ll make him.’
You look at him in confusion.
‘What’s that supposed to mean…?’ you shyly trail off but your question is shortly answered as soon as Chris bends down to level with you and seamlessly digs his palms into your thighs so that he can pluck you up from off of your chair.
You yelp a little in shock, your heartbeat thrumming against your ribcage before you quietly recover as Chris curls your legs around his hips. Upon touch, your hands instinctively fly to grip onto the back of his neck, his skin being warm and tepid.
The scruff of his long hair feels like satin tickling over your fingers and Chris groans in achievement as soon as he feels your thighs tense against his waist.
He’s been waiting for an excuse to do this.
‘Max is tellin’ you that you’re never gonna get a better fuck than him? Well I’m about to prove him wrong, s’that okay with you, cherry?’ Chris asks, not really expecting no for an answer as he starts to walk over the squeaking floorboards to the backrooms of the shop.
He knows exactly where he’s going and something deep within your core flutters at this assertive kind of attitude.
Chris has always been the extremely blunt and forward type of guy- if you looked pretty that day, he’d tell you, and make it obvious that he was attracted to you.
Today was no different, you could tell he had every intention of fucking you and making it extremely clear to Max just how good he was going to do it.
‘Y-yeah’ is just about all you can muster in your shaky state.
As you look down at Chris’ face, his chocolatey waves tussle in a rather wild-looking way whilst nestled about his pierced ears. Your fingers timidly skim about his neck, and one of them draws nervous patterns over the black bat tattoo situated behind his right ear that he had gotten for his brother a year ago.
‘That’s my girl’ he praises cockily as he barges through the beaded entrance way into one of the client operating rooms. There’s a black leather stretcher in the centre of the room and a stool sitting idle right beside it where the artist sits.
Chris goes straight for the client table though.
He smirks a toothy grin as he plops you down onto the spongy leather and you find it within yourself to crack an equally as excited smile. He nudges open your legs so that he can stand in between them and weighs his hands down onto your hips, pressing his thumbs into your bones and rubbing them fondly.
‘Did Max kiss you at all when you two fucked?’ He asks breathlessly with his cerulean eyes lilting down to your lips hungrily.
He’s itching to get all over you. He’s been dying to taste your tongue on his for ages and it just so happens that this posed as the perfect, sneaky way to do so.
‘Well, hm… not that much, but I guess a-’ you start to explain, but ‘not much’ is enough of a pathetic answer for Chris to fall forward and engulf your lips in between his before you can finish anyway.
Your little muffled whine of shock is swallowed by a Chris that attaches himself to your bottom lip quickly.
Winding one of his hands behind your back, he uses that - and the other one gripping your hip - to yank your body towards his. You two stay flushed together, and you can feel Chris’ throbbing prick against the seam of your pants already. He’s hard, and clearly pent up for you behind his low-waisted jeans.
‘That’s not good enough’ he mumbles, almost in a tongue-drunken stupor against your lips, criticising Max so that he can subtly defend his choice to kiss you.
Really, he had no need to, but fuck did he want to.
You don’t complain, in fact, you simply sigh at how close Chris is. You can feel his nose delicately skimming against your cheek the more he twists the side of his face to gain better access to you, and you can’t help but lust for the way his dewy lips wrap around your own.
The contrast between his cold fingertips brushing against your body and his hot tongue leeching out to slip into your open mouth makes you shiver.
‘N-no you’re completely right… that’s not good enough’ you coquettishly add on to the conversation you two have in between kisses. As you shit talk Max together, you only encourage Chris to take further jabs at him.
‘And what about these pretty little things here…? Did he touch these enough?’.
Chris’ nose trails down the line of your jaw to dip and run along the jugular vein of your neck whilst he pants desperately. He holds your sat figure into his standing leant one with one hand gripping your ass whilst the other one trails up to squeeze against one of your braless tits.
Wanting Chris to play with them, your blushing figure shakes its head and you swallow thickly. ‘No…’.
Chris hums a casual ‘huh’ in playfulness before the hand playing with it decides to slip itself under your shirt for better access. You heavily hiss and arch your back as soon as skin on skin contact is reached and Chris gingerly touches your peaked nipple.
‘You make me feel like such a pervert when you don’t wear a bra to shifts we do together because I stare at them all the time…’ Chris confesses as he gently kneads one of them within his big palm. Whilst he does this, his face buries itself into your neck to pepper sprinkles of sloppy kisses all over your skin.
‘What if I told you I do it on purpose… I like it when you look…’ you breathe with your head knocked back in pleasure. Chris stops his assault on your neck to gaze at you with raised eyebrows of shock.
‘Fuck. Max was an idiot for fumbling you…’
This makes both your heart flutter and your core drip. You like Chris’ praise a lot more than you like Max’s degradation, and make sure to let Chris know this by giving him another kiss.
‘S’mommy gonna let me suck on her tits?’ He ponders in a feigned babyish voice against your lips, the sweet lilt of his sensual tone almost making you melt into the client’s table.
Your needy reply of ‘yes’ is soon followed by an immediate response from Chris, who slowly reaches into his back pocket for his phone.
He slides it out and then presents it in front of your face with his brows raised.
‘And is mommy gonna let me film it so that I can send it to Max and let him see me having my treat?’.
Your eyes flick to the phone, then to Chris’ expectant face, absolutely drowning in lust at the thought of Chris wanting to film himself sucking on your tits. You nod without hesitation, and Chris smirks in victory.
He’s definitely using this to touch himself later.
Chris quickly fumbles around with his phone in excitement, scrubbing his home screen into his camera roll before he’s pressing the small red button to record himself propping it up onto the counter right next to where you were sitting.
You watch within a trance as Chris feeds his hands into the bottom of your top to sensually slide it right up your ribs. He then runs it over the top of your tits and leaves it to rest above them with a purr of ‘good girl’.
You feel your knees get physically weaker at the sight of Chris veering his face down into your tits, his mouth almost feathers against them as both of you look at the camera at the same time.
Chris has a little victorious smirk on his face, that he smugly flashes to his phone before turning back in and gently kissing your nipple.
He can’t stop his conniving smile as you seal your eyes shut and throw your head back, whimpering with your fingers combed into the back of his hair and tugging on it. Chris makes a show of poking out his tongue and licking you before he fully kisses one of your tits into his mouth to suck on it.
He moans a little starved whimper at the feeling of your soft flesh in his mouth whilst his tongue rolls and his teeth clamp down onto you.
His hands get grabby as you pant, listening to the way the microphone of the camera absorbs the sloppy sounds of him sucking on your skin whilst he kisses and licks wherever he can.
‘That feel good huh?’ Chris mumbles into you, and you whine in response with a stuttered ‘so- so good’. He nods cockily, eying the camera with your second tit already in between his teeth. ‘Yeah? This the best mouth you’ve ever had?’.
Struggling to fight off his smile at the comment he completely stole from Max, he knows it’ll make your ex’s blood boil, especially when you reply with an instantaneous shout of, ‘fuck- yes, I- I need more baby!’.
‘You want more?’ He drawls temptingly, pulling away from your chest that was now red and glistening, some sections littered with subtle teeth marks and some with purpling hickies.
‘I’ll give you more baby’ he laughs through his teeth before pressing his fingertips onto your core.
‘Hope you’re soaking for me, you’re gunna need it’ he quips before lightly trailing his hand up to the button of your zipper.
Your core clenches again when he pops it open, the insinuation that you need to be extra wet for him because of his size making you want to pass out in horniness.
He opens the front of your jeans before feeding his hands underneath your thighs so that he can pull you towards him and also force you onto your back to tug your jeans down.
After that, he watches the way you squirm when he sticks his fingers into the side of your sheer panties. In view of the camera, the pad of his thumb swipes up your slit as he checks your sensitivity himself.
‘Awe angel you are soaked… what a good girl for me’.
His sweet praise melts over you in the best way possible, and you can’t help but get shy and cover up your eyes to smile.
Sometimes you forget that the camera is there, but Chris never does, and he glances over at it constantly to smirk as if Max is already watching on the other end of the line before turning his attention back to admire you.
‘I’m gonna make that pretty pussy feel so fucking good momma’ Chris boldly states as he starts to fumble around with his chunky and glamorously rhinestoned belt buckle. The leather of it flaps and his buckle gives a metallic jingle whilst he undoes it, his hair falling in front of his eyes because of the downwards slant his head holds.
‘Please- I really need you’ you mumble breathlessly, spreading your legs even further in reaction to seeing the stretch of his cock against his white Calvin Klein boxers as soon as he lets his jeans drop to the floor with a heavy crumple.
From here you can see his thigh tattoo of a crooked spiders web, done in extremely fine ink, delicate but dark.
‘I know you need me baby I know- be patient alright?’ He shushes you with a reassuring coo, before sliding to the side of you and hopping up onto the table himself. He positions himself right in front of his still recording phone so that he can get the best angle for this.
‘Why don’t you go ahead an’ take off those panties for the camera sweet girl… do it for me?’.
Chris’ whiny sounding voice is just so sugary and compelling. You’re pretty sure you would do anything he asked if it really came to that extreme because along with his voice, his lips and eyes really did the trick for you.
Chris stutters a breath as soon as he pushes his hand down his boxers to take ahold of his hot, silky cock, it’s skin already wet with precome at just how divine you had sounded whilst he was attached to your tits.
He tightens his fist to squeeze himself and throbs in his hand, his mouth dropping open and his shoulders heaving as you slide off the table and strip from your clothes fully.
As soon as you’re done, you can feel your wetness trickling and sloshing about your folds, and so you squeeze your thighs together when looking at Chris for his next instruction.
Chris hungrily gazes down to your panties that lie in a messy heap on top of your jeans. ‘Gimme those?’ He commands and gestures for you to grab a hold of your panties and give them over to him, which you do obediently and without question.
Chris grasps ahold of them and balls them up into his fist before smirking at the camera once again. ‘These are mine now… so’s your pussy’.
You turn red at this low and beastly remark, trying hard not to pounce on top of Chris for saying it. He talks so smoothly. It’s as if every word his mouth forms puts you under a lemony haze of pleasure and you just can’t get enough of it.
You just don’t understand how he can keep this up when you yourself already look like a fucked-out hot mess.
‘I’m all yours Chris’
You practically flee into his awaiting arms, and he hoists your bare and pink centre over his lap.
Kissing your tits again, he grips onto your fleshy thighs and moans a whimper whilst side eyeing the camera in ultimate possessiveness, just to make a show of it being him who’s sucking your tits, and not Max.
He’s going to feel so smug and proud of himself as soon as he sends this his way.
‘Can I have your cock Chris, please?’ You beg, stroking his waves of hair once again to butter him up - not that you’d really need to work all that much to have his cock in the first place…
‘Of course you can Cherry, you’ve been so good for me’ Chris replies as his fingertips stroke against your stretch marks, before he leans in and whispers ‘help yourself…’.
You glance down to the tent in his boxers with your lip bitten and a giddy little smirk on your face. After Chris invites you, you waste no time in pulling his weeping cock from out of the restraints of his boxers.
The hip tattoo he has of a Cupid with angel wings, a halo and a winking face soon makes itself known to you after you tug his underwear down a little further. The ink of the little boy’s heart-encrusted bow and arrow cheekily point right to the base of Chris’ cock, and so you crack a smile, shaking your head fondly at Chris’ inappropriate but witty humour.
He’s thick and throbs in your hand, his tip sticky and slick as it pulses a light pink taffy colour whilst a thick blue vein pokes itself out from the side of his length to travel right down to his base. ‘Fuck’ you breathe. Chris looks at you cockily and is very much pleased with your wanton response.
‘Want you to sit on it till it hurts and you can’t no more precious girl’ he mumbles as he hitches your hips up into his hands and lifts you above him. You nod with a little ‘Uhuh’, your stomach flipping and oozing to feel the stretch of him. He’s bigger than Max, and the thought makes you careen in pleasure.
You almost forget that you two are both supposed to be at work, because all of this feels so private and intoxicating, and the implication of Chris making it into sex tape gives you life.
As soon as you’re placed on top of him, you hold his base so that you can sink down properly, and both of you choke out whines at how fucking amazing it feels.
‘Shit… still tight honey… has Max really been using you properly or is his cock just that small?’.
Chris can’t help it. He gets off on criticising your priggish ex boyfriend because he truly fucking hates his guts. And damn does it feel good to be fucking you with the intention of letting the man himself know through the recording of it.
‘Fuck, I feel so full’ you speak into the air.
You then have to bite your hand so that you don’t draw tears because of the burning stretch Chris gives you. It’s almost unbearably uncomfortable for the first minute of bottoming out.
But then it stops being uncomfortable and starts making you squirm again at needing some form of friction to move yourself.
So you do.
Lifting your hips slightly, you slip back downwards and grind forwards at the same time whilst Chris looks up at you with star-ridden irises. They twinkle in the light and he pants heavily after every time you move.
He soon starts to naturally move himself, needing to respond to you in some sort of way.
He loves watching your tits bounce whilst you rise and fall onto his cock, the sticky slickness of it slapping within his ears and making him want to come all over your insides already. You squeeze him so fucking well, and he equally stretches you out to the limit.
The rough skin of his prick steadily rubs against your walls and ignites an explosion of sensitivity within your centre whenever Chris pushes himself far enough to hit your g-spot. He’s so big he almost bulges from your stomach.
‘Who owns this pussy, who does it belong to?’ He barks as you squeeze your eyes closed and scrunch your nose up, having to slam your head onto his shoulder because of your overstimulation in pleasure.
You stutter out a quick ‘ugh- y-you’ as you feel Chris’ fingers grab onto your hips because of their slowing roll. He digs them into your skin and starts to move you himself at an even faster pace which makes you whine even louder.
‘Sorry… not quite sure Max heard you- can you say that again for me Cherry?’ Chris meanly rebutts and makes your cheeks flame red after he actually takes his palm and harshly swats it against the side of your thigh. You yelp at the brash cracking sound the sweaty skin-on-skin contact creates, but nevertheless still cry a humiliated ‘you!’.
Chris praises you immediately after with a soothing ‘that’s right… good girl’, before starting up his sly and conniving antics once again.
‘And whose name are you gonna be screaming from now on hmm?’.
Chris’ little taunting hum is fucking petty. But also, just what you need to finally cum.
‘Yours Chris! Fuck- all yours!!’.
You’re almost shouting as you arch your spine and throw your head back in ecstasy whilst your legs quiver and an almighty wave of euphoria rushes over your whole entire being.
‘Awe baby… cumming already? I was just getting started…’ Chris coos cockily as he lets go of one of your hips to soothingly stroke against your back with a pretty pout on his lips.
However that pout doesn’t stay for long because it struggles to fight the smirk that quickly overtakes his facial expression at the thought of how quickly he had made you cum.
He glances at the camera once more, to admire the position the both of you were in with dilated eyes, before focusing back onto you and speedily forcing your hips up and down a couple more times to finish himself off.
You squeak and claw at him in overstimulated pain, whining for him to slow down, but all he does is gently hush you in comfort. ‘I know shhh, I know. Wanna make sure I fill you up nice and good though baby’.
His voice is so gentle, and in lulls you into a drooling stupor with tears in your eyes as you claw at his tattooed back with your sharp nails. That’s going to leave heafty scratch marks.
Chris is tempted to wipe them away, but doesn’t have enough time before he’s groaning loudly and his tip is uncontrollable squirting out thick ropes of cum.
He bounces your hips a couple more times to get rid of as much as he possibly can. He wants to see it practically leaking from out of your abused hole. After he thinks you’ve milked him dry, he lets go of your bruised waist and you crumple back down into his embrace.
He rubs your back as you try to desperately regain your breath with your core raw, stinging and slimy with Chris’ cum.
‘There’s my good girl… taking all of me like that. Swear I’ll give you my babies next time you take me that well.’ He absentmindedly praises you for the last time, and you find it within yourself to laugh in disbelief, shaking your head before you slap his shoulder and lean upwards to look at him in the eyes once more.
‘Okay… you’ve proved your point. Now stop recording so I can kiss you a little more.’
Your thumbs stroke the bags underneath his eyes, and his smile is so sunny that you’re sure it could have opened up flowers on a dewy spring morning.
‘Yes ma’am…’
. ♱ .
Later that evening, Chris had sat alone in the tattoo parlour.
He had told you that you could go home early and that he’d sanitise the rooms and lock up as a special treat for you.
You had done as you were told and left a while ago, which left Chris to watch back the sex tape that you two had made earlier with a mean and satisfied smirk slapped over his lips.
He had rewatched it about 3 times, admiring the way both of you had moved with the volume all the way up to listen to your heavenly sounding whimpers. He had replayed his favourite bits a great deal and was fucking obsessed. He couldn’t help himself.
He had then exited the camera app and went straight into Instagram, searching up Max’s account profile to slide into his DMs.
With one final smirk, he had bitten his lip victoriously and selected the video of you and him together before attaching it and typing one final thing before clicking the send button and locking his phone.
Might wanna think next time you make bold allegations about how she’ll never find a better D x

Author’s notes p.2: guys I’m actually so sorry for disappearing off the face of Tumblr for fuck knows how long without an explanation. Truthfully there isn’t really much of an explanation apart from the fact that I’ve simply been too busy to write (and have also had major writers block atm- hence me and @luv4kozume collab taking so long lol). BUT I’m back with something that has actually turned into one of my favourite pieces of writing on this blog, so I hope it’s been worth the wait!! when y/n's ex appears Pt 3.
BC boys: Yuno | Zora | Luck [Part 1]
JJK: Sukuna | Gojo [Part 2]
Haikyuu: Kuroo | Nishinoya | Sakusa [Part 3]
x f! reader
Slight nsfw (hickeys mentioned)
Tumblr media
Kuroo Tetsuro
{this ex of yours from high school whom you used to date before kuroo is now a new colleague in your job.. And when kuroo finds out, he's not that happy. }
When he came to pick you one day and Kuroo saw him, or actually he said hello to Kuroo because y'know Kuroo was his senpai in school and all. Kuroo's face twitched a little but he still gave a smile and said hello.
Kuroo's hands instinctively wrapped around you and pulled you closer to him while exchanging in a meaningless conversation with your ex.
When you're both in the car, he sulks more when he finds out your ex is from the same department as you are and that you'll have to work together once in awhile.
He now leaves hickeys in subtle but noticeable places and whenever he comes to pick you and sees him, he'll hold you tighter and give you kisses right in front of him.
Somehow you can call it a man's instinct, but Kuroo warned you to not let him ever send you back home and to keep your distance other than work related things.
Of course you respected your man, because in so so so many ways your Kuroo is just much better than your ex.
one day after a company dinner, your ex was a little high, and he confessed to you, saying he never really got over you and asked you for a second chance.
"er, but i have a boyfriend now, and we broke up for a reason." you said.
He backed off a little but still offered to send you back home since it was getting late. He pestered you a little about it until a sound of a horn scared him.
Kuroo walked out from his jet black mercedes, looking all hot in just a sweat pants and a t shirt.
He pulled you into his arms and stared right at your ex. "back off from my girl, it's my last warning." his face was no longer smiling like their past encounters, and his eyes were like a fierce panther ready to attack.
Well, safe to say from then onwards, he never really bothered you much anymore.
Nishinoya Yuu
{Noya plays volleyball in a club for leisure and one day a new guy joins, and he happened to be your ex}
when you came to watch Noya play his games, you noticed someone new, and to your surprise (and horror) it was someone that you used to date back in high school.
When your ex saw you, he ran up to you to say hello, excited to see you again. But you weren't really interested since he dumped you and quickly got together with another girl.
Man even got the audacity to tell Noya that "we used to date back in high school"
but thank god Noya was pretty quick witted so he replied "oh, you're the ex that dumped her for another chick?"
But your ex was also thick skinned, so he sheepishly smiled, saying "it's all in the past!"
Noya couldn't care any less. When it came to volleyball, he focused on the ball and the game and as usual everyone is always in awe of the plays Noya made. Even as a librero, he shone.
But for your ex, he constantly came to talk to you on breaks and he even texted you after.
Initially Noya was just "oh. okay." He's just innocent and didn't think much of it.
Until you told him one day that your ex actually told you to give him a second chance. That's when Noya understood the ulterior motives this guy had.
Whenever you came to support him, Noya told you to wear his shirts or old jerseys. You always held his water bottle and towel and handed it to him during breaks and he would always give you a kiss on your forehead before running back in game.
At the end of the day, Noya would always help carry all your stuff and held your hand out of the gym.
But your ex didn't back down, still constantly texting you and trying to talk to you.
One day, during a break in the games, Noya looked at him dead panned in the eye, telling him : "oi. stop bothering y/n, she mine's and i never lose what's mine."
He just walked away, leaving your ex stunned and everyone giving the "ohhhhs" and "ahhhhs"
Noya gave a perfect defence that day. He never lost a ball that was in his area, be it a tip or a heavy spike.
Your ex left the leisure team shortly after.
Sakusa Kiyoomi
{You were Msby's assistant manager and your ex joined in as a new player for Msby's team}
When your ex saw you he greeted you, "oh hello y/n, fancy seeing you here!"
Everyone was curious of course, asking how did you guys know each other.
"We used to date after high school, just briefly!" he explained. And everyone stared at Sakusa, to which he just shrugged and went back to doing what he's doing.
Atsumu even teased his a little, "ohhhh~ someone's jealous ain't he?" earning a hard smack in the back.
Sakusa was a little more quiet than usual that day, even though his performance was still as good as ever.
Even your ex was impressed, "whoa you're good."
Sakusa was never the physically affectionate type when outside because "I'm sweaty and there are a lot of germs" but that day he held your hand after practice when you went home together.
Back home, he showered and then he was super clingy towards you. pulling you into his lap and cuddling you quietly.
Your man wasn't one with much words but you knew he wasn't too happy about meeting your ex and having to have to work with him for long term. You quietly ran your fingers through his hair.
From then whenever you had practice, you constantly showed your affection for him, cheering when he scored points and always telling him good job after practice. You would purposely ask him things like "where should we go today," or "what should we eat for dinner tonight" where you knew that your ex could hear.
You never really talked to your ex unless it was due to volleyball reasons. Giving Sakusa as much affirmation from you as he needs.
Slowly, sakusa became unbothered by him, until one day, your ex made a joke about how you changed from the past you and this wasn't how you were like when you dated.
And you could clearly see Sakusa getting annoyed. He came over and wrapped his strong arms around you, looking at your ex straight in the eye "she's perfect right now." and pulled you away.
Everyone was silent, and Atsumu gave a low whistle.

Except Me ~S16!Emily Prentiss xFem Reader
Tumblr media
Inspired by @captainchilly ‘s post. Felt like this needed a blurb/fic of Emily finally getting fucked after the events of Season 16. With a cameo of S16 Spencer Reid!
Mommy…Master List
Requests & Prompt-List
Warnings: NSFW, 18+!!, pet names, smut, eating out, fingering, age gap (all legal), sex, etc.
Enjoy (;
It had been a week since the Sicarius case had closed, and Emily still couldn’t get a wink of sleep.
She was restless. Too restless.
There was so much unknown in the balance… What exactly was going to happen with Lee Duval? What was Gold Star? How were Doug, the Atorney General, and Tara’s ex connected to it?
In light of all this, Emily decided she would go visit one of her oldest and most trusted friends from the BAU— Spencer.
It was restless, too quiet Tuesday when Emily was making her way to the university Spencer was currently lecturing at.
Being a professor fit Spencer well; he had found more community and even a girlfriend. Emily was truly happy for him. But she also missed seeing his hope filled face and being around his information stuffed mind.
She sighed, exiting her parked car, and making her way to the lecture hall in which Spencer was just about finishing his 8am lecture on behavior.
Emily silently entered the classroom and waited patiently in the corner for Spencer to wrap up. He looked like he was truly in his element, Emily thought as she watched him talk.
Spencer noticed Emily the second she had entered the hall. He had sent her a warm smile as he continued to teach, followed by a look of concern washing over his face.
Eventually, Spencer wrapped up and dismissed the class, and the students all exited the lecture hall.
Emily made her way over to Spencer, “Hey Reid. How’s teaching treating you?”
“Hey Em, really good, thanks. How are you, I heard about your recent, more difficult case?” Reid responded, voice laced with concern and care.
As the two caught up, Spencer led Emily into his office for more privacy. They both sat down.
Emily sighed in defeat, “So yeah… and now where trying to figure out what this gold star is…”
“Emily, have you been sleeping?” Spencer interrupted Emily’s finishing conclusions on the case.
“Uh… I’m trying. It’s hard. Why?”
They both knew why…
There was silence in the room between the two old friends for a while.
“I… have a suggestion…” Spencer hesitated.
“Yes?” Emily asked, her features perking up at the sound of Spencer’s mind working out some sort of possible solution.
“When’s the last time you got laid, Emily?”
“I’m sorry?” Emily chocked on her own air.
“It.. it might be beneficial…” Spencer went right back to his younger, stuttering self, trying to explain himself, which made Emily’s heart melt.
He cleared his throat, “It might be beneficial for you. Sex is often shown to help with stress relief and insomnia.”
Emily scoffed.
“I wouldn’t even know where to begin.” She said while rubbing her temples.
“I may have someone.” Spencer offered.
“What?” Emily asked, not fully registering what Spencer was saying.
“A colleague of mine, a professor L/N, has her own set of obstacles, but the point is that she could benefit from having sex as well.”
Emily was flabbergasted.
“Spencer… You do know that just because we’re both not straight, does not mean we will immediately like each other right?” She skeptically questioned her friend.
“No, no, I know. But, will you just meet her? Her office is room 116.”
“Spencer, you amaze me sometimes…” Emily sighed in defeat, “But sure, if it will satisfy you, I will go talk to your colleague.”
Spencer had a grin plastered on his face at her words.
As Emily walked out to go find you in room 116, Spencer called out, “You can thank me later!”
Emily huffed as she made her way through the campus to your office.
Spencer wasn’t wrong though… She desperately needed to get laid…
But she was tired. She didn’t want to go deal with a rejection from a stranger. Especially right now.
Eventually, Emily found your office. She knocked at the door.
“Come in!” You called, while grading your seemingly never ending stacks of papers.
Emily heard your words, opened the door, entered the room, and closed the door behind her.
“Hello, How can I help you?” You asked the stranger in your office, setting your grading pen down for the moment.
“I’m Emily Prentiss, Dr. Reid’s friends.” Emily introduced herself, shaking your hand.
Your face lit up at her words, “Oh yes! I’m Y/N. Spencer has told me a good deal about his old team at the BAU. Please, do sit, although I don’t know exactly what I can do for you.”
Emily smiled at your kindness.
You both sat, and she began, “This is going to sound weird, but…” Emily took a deep breath, damn she hadn’t been this nervous in years… why was she this nervous…?
“But Spencer asked me to come down her and see you.”
“Oh is that so? And why might that be?” You asked, skeptical of what Spencer was pulling this time.
“He thinks… he thinks both of us need to get laid… and that we could help each other with our mutually respective dilemmas.” Emily tried to explain in, in the most understandable way, but she was being distracted by the butterflies in her stomach and the wetness pooling in her panties…
“He wants us to fuck?” You bluntly asked.
Oh, Emily was done for once you uttered those words…
“Yes.” She managed to respond with a even voice, even though her legs were clenching uncontrollably…
“Hmmmm…” you mused, taking in the woman in front you, you had to admit… Spencer taste for you was spot on…
“And what do you think? What do you want, Emily?” You asked the older, seasoned woman.
God, she wanted to hear her name in your mouth again…
“I think your quite young…” Emily responded with a slight strain to her voice.
“Hmmmm, does that bother you?”
“Not if it doesn’t bother you…” she whispered, her eyes clouding over with need.
“It doesn’t…” you immediately, lightly spoke back.
“Well in that case…” Emily began, but was interrupted as you got up from your chair.
You went over to the door, and for a second Emily panicked thinking you were leaving, but then she heard the lock click.
You then walked back and over to where Emily was sitting, scooting her chair to face you and not the desk.
“What were you saying…?” You whispered, looming over Emily, your eyes darkened with desperation.
“Doesn’t matter...” Emily whispered, grabbing your blouse and crashing her lips into yours. She pulled you into her lap, as her tongue explored your mouth.
You moaned in response, straddling her on the chair.
Emily grabbed a fist of your hair and pressed your lips into her hers even harder, eliciting whimpers from both of you.
Both of your hips grinded into the other in desperate need of some sort of friction.
You pulled away first from the kiss, quickly knelt down on the ground, and hurriedly began undoing her pants.
Emily realized what you were doing and moaned at the thought, quickly helping you to remove her pants.
You tore off her soaked panties and spread her legs across the chair legs.
“Please, god… fuck me…” Emily pleaded, grabbing your hair again and thrusting her soaked cunt to meet your face.
You happily complied to her request, diving into her pussy, lapping up her wetness and exploring her folds.
Emily moaned and mewled in delight.
You skillfully tongued through her folds, drawing out lewd moans which went straight to your own core.
And soon enough you felt Emily’s walls clenched around your tongue as she screamed out in pleasure.
You looked up after lapping up all of her juices to find a panting, sex fogged goddess.
You moaned at the sight.
Emily met your desperate eyes.
“Get on the desk, will ya love?” She lustfully moaned.
You quickly got up, sitting your ass on the edge of your desk.
Emily got up from her chair, legs a bit wobbly which you cheekily grinned at.
“Oh don’t worry Baby. You’ll be the one who can’t walk at the end of this…” Emily taunted at your cheeky grin towards her legs.
You gulped.
She grabbed your knees and guided your legs open for her access.
“I love your outfit, but it would look so much better on the floor, don’t ya think?” Emily purred.
You bit your lip and eagerly nodded, desperately removing all of your clothing.
Emily watched you, her mouth salivating at the sight of you.
You sat back on the edge of the desk, legs wide open for her access.
Emily hummed in delight.
She then kneeled on the floor, never losing eye contact as she licked a strip of your folds, causing you to shutter and let out a whimper.
“Please… no teasing…” you begged, bucking your hips up to meet her face.
Emily grinned at your begging, and complied with your request.
She just went straight into your pussy, tongue fucking your aching cunt relentlessly.
You grabbed and tugged her hair which only seemed to spur Emily on even more.
“Oh God!” You cried out, feeling yourself climbing to the edge of your high.
Emily couple sense your fluttering walls and how close you were. She added her thumb to your clit, and you were done for…
You came on her tongue, crying out her name, eyes rolling back in pleasure.
You panted heavily and whinced as Emily cleaned your sensitive cunt up with her tongue.
She came up to your eye level with a mischievous little grin and a face full of cum to match yours.
Her lips crashed into yours once more. It’s was intoxicating, your taste mixing with hers.
Eventually, you both pulled away breathless.
“Damn.” Emily exclaimed, “We should do that again sometime.”
You chuckled at her comment and nodded, too speechless to form any words.

I Think You're Holding The Heart Of Mine(Part 4)
Tumblr media
warnings: kissing, mentions of nudity, canon type violence, use of cursed techniques, gossiping and rumours word count: 2.6k pairings: Nanami Kento x Fem!Reader summary: Kugisaki needs to know what's going on between you and Kento, so she'll do what ever she can to get the information straight from the source...Gojo! Meanwhile, you and Kento arrive in the village where your mission takes place and soon realize that there is more at stake than just a curse. taglist: @beneathstarryskies Part one|Part two|Part three
Tumblr media
“What do you mean?!” Kugisaki asks Gojo, the man now smirking.
“I sent them on a mission!”
The first years are all piled in a classroom with their sensei, watching him attentively as he explains why Nanami and you won’t be present for the next few days. Kugisaki is practically bouncing in her seat as she hears this.
Itadori scratches his head, “B-but I’m supposed to be trained by Nanamin.”
Fushiguro smirks and rolls his eyes, “Don’t worry, he’ll still train you when he returns.”
Kugisaki is the only one who really knows what all of this means at this moment. Even if Gojo is wearing his blindfold, there’s a glint in his eyes. She wanted to ask so many questions, but really there was no way for Gojo to answer all of them.
“Kugisaki-chan, you seem excited about something. Would you like to share with the rest of the class?” Gojo asks, laughing softly.
“Sensei and Nanami are going to become a couple, right?! I mean the way they are always with one another and now this…”
Gojo laughs and the two other boys just seem to be disinterested or naive about the implications. Fushiguro tries to seem as though this is something that burdens him, but in reality he does want to know more. He’s always seen Nanami-san as someone no-nonsense, but it would seem that maybe the serious ex-salaryman has a bit of a fun side to him.
“Mmmm! Now wouldn’t that be exciting to see!”
They are all about to say something else when Shoko peeks her head inside the classroom. A frown spread on her face, but in reality, she’s tickled pink about the situation. She knows that you and Nanami have been pining for one another for a long time. Neither of you have the guts to truly come to terms with what’s going on either.
“Gossipping about your co-workers, Satoru?” Shoko asks, and she opens the door fully now. Ijichi is by her side, a serious look on his face.
Gojo smirks, “Noooo! I would never! In fact, we are discussing a very serious mission.”
Shoko laughs sarcastically. He always has this way about him. It’s an act sometimes, but she can see that her colleague and good friend is also just as tickled pink as she is. She crosses her arms over her chest, an eyebrow cocked.
“So you aren’t discussing her and Nanami?”
The room falls silent and then Gojo laughs again, his smile spreading. Kugisaki looks over at Shoko, noticing how the older woman is faltering in her very serious look. It’s not a look that’s very convincing to any of them. It’s only Ijichi at this moment who seems to be taking all of this seriously, though he is very interested in knowing what’s going to happen next.
“Nanami and her are going on a very important mission.” Gojo explains.
Shoko shakes her head, “To the honeymoon inn?”
This causes the first years to gasp. Ijichi’s eyes widen and he’s wondering if that’s truly where Gojo has decided to send them off to.
Gojo scratches his chin thoughtfully, “Is that where that is? All I know is I got reports of a very serious curse. I figured two of the best first grade sorcerers could take care of it.”
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪
“Wake up, darling.” Nanami’s voice softly comes through.
You blink a few times, and you realize you’re on the train still. When you look out the window, you notice that it’s dark out and that you’ve arrived at your destination. You yawn softly and try to rub the sleep out of your eyes. When you look at Nanami again, you smile at the way he seems so much more relaxed than before.
“We’ve arrived.”
You take his hand, your body still disoriented from the sleep. He guides you outside of the train and towards the small station in this village. You two walk over to the luggage claim, waiting for your suitcases. You even take this moment as a way for you to press yourself close to him. Nanami wraps his arm around your waist, holding you as close to him as he can.
“Did you sleep well?” He inquires.
You nod and yawn again, “Yeah but I missed the whole train ride.”
This causes you to pout and Nanami finds it so fucking cute. You’re way too adorable when you’re sleepy like this. Once you two have located your suitcases, he insists on carrying them both to the inn. You want to protest, but you’re just a little too sleepy.
The walk from the station to the inn is nice. It’s a quiet little village. A few shops and residences line the streets. A few people are out and about, and there’s music coming from what looks like the bar. You look around, becoming charmed and enchanted by this sweet place. Kento keeps his arm wrapped around you tightly enough so that you stay close to him.
You enter the inn together, chatting about how beautiful this village is. Despite having a mission to go on together and to complete, it was still nice to get out of Tokyo and relax for a bit in a small village.
At the counter is a small elderly woman who’s busy working on a crossword puzzle from the crinkled newspaper. She barely looks up and mutters something, but then you both watch as her face lights up when she notices just who she’s seeing.
“Ah!! Come in, come in! You must be Mr. and Mrs. Nanami!”
Your heart drops when you hear her greet you both like this. Is this really how Gojo made the reservations for you both? You look at Kento, who’s gritting his teeth but then he lets out a soft chuckle.
“I’m sorry ma’am, but we aren’t married.”
She frowns, “Oh but the nice man on the phone said…” Then she perks up. “Oh! I know, you aren’t married yet!”
Your cheeks burn at all of this. You were still a little sleepy and groggy, and knowing that Satoru had lied about you and Kento just made you even more susceptible to becoming embarrassed. Mostly you were embarrassed because you wished this was really your honeymoon. Or something similar at the very least.
“Right right,” Kento says, just trying to get her to stop talking about it. “We’re here for our room, ma’am.”
She winks before handing you the keys, “Honeymoon suite it is! I’m sure you’ll still find it perfect for two young lovers such as yourselves!”
You’re about to interject when Kento just guides you by the hand. You can still hear the older woman cooing and laughing as you walk down the hallway. Before you know it, you’re in front of the room door.
“Leave it to Satoru to make us look like fools,” Kento scoffs as he unlocks the door.
“It’s fine, Kento. I’m not mad.”
His heart flutters in his chest. Ever since the train ride, he was beginning to wonder where your true feelings for him lie. It’s difficult enough to be co-workers who have everyone else in their business, but to navigate these feelings together is scary enough.
Once he opens the door, the two of you gasp. It’s a beautiful traditional room. Spacious entryway with lots of room to sit around. In the living area, it has a big kotatsu for those cold nights and lots of cushioned sofas. There’s even a flat-screen TV; this must be a newer addition to the otherwise older styled room.
You make your way towards the sliding doors and open them wide. Your eyes bulge out of your skull as you see the beautiful master bedroom that awaits you. Mahogany and cherry wood walls, beautiful tatami floors and a huge bed that could easily sleep ten.
Then you look around the room, noticing the desk that’s been strategically placed in front of one of the bigger windows in the room. Wooden blinds have been pulled up just enough to spot the private onsen that awaits you outside. Kento comes into the room, suitcases placed carefully on the ground.
“He really spared no expenses, hm?”
You turn to face him and there’s a childlike glow to your eyes. You’ve never stayed in such a luxurious room while on a mission before. It’s usually just a standard hotel room or little bedroom in the inn. This was far more expensive and fancy than anything else you’ve ever witnessed.
“So…I guess this is where we’re meant to fuck like bunnies, yes?”
Kento laughs at the way you’ve put this. You both know you’ve got a serious mission to tend to. It’s not just fun and games. But a part of you wants to be able to enjoy this luxury while you’re able to. Because you know that as soon as you leave this village, you and Kento are right back to normal life.
“There’s even an onsen…” you say softly.
Kento smirks, “A dip in the onsen while out in the moonlight? My, my…you are rather romantic.”
This makes your heart skip a beat. You look up at the ex-salaryman and wonder if he truly wants to do this with you. He smiles at you; it’s a genuine smile that seemingly only you get to see. Then you both nod and agree to take a nice dip in the onsen.
He’s in the water first, groaning softly as the warm water envelops him and soothes his aching muscles. He allows his eyes to close. All that can be heard are the soft melodies of the crickets and other nighttime dwelling insects. Then his eyes snap open to the sound of sliding door opening. You’re standing there, a fluffy white towel wrapped around your form. Kento’s eyes widen when he finally gets to see you in this way.
“You look comfortable,” you comment as you approach him.
Kento watches you carefully as you dip your toes into the warm water. A smile spreads on your face as you see just how soothing this experience is going to be. Then his cheeks burn as you unwrap the towel and he looks away. He’d be lying if he said his cock didn’t twitch at the thought of the two of you being naked together in the water.
A cute little sigh escapes your lips as you slide into the water until it reaches your collarbone. Finally, Kento looks over at you again but he thinks it’s a mistake on his part. You look way too good with the water covering almost all of you.
“Heh, cat got your tongue?” you ask, teasing him lightly.
Kento clears his throat, “Uh…no, sorry. I’m just enjoying this peaceful moment.”
There’s another bout of silence as the two of you bask under the beautiful moonlight. It really is the perfect night. Neither of you would truly believe you’re away on a business trip. Really, it does feel almost like a honeymoon.
“Darling,” Kento’s voice doesn’t falter this time. “Have I ever told you just how breathtaking you are?”
Your heart skips a beat when you hear him talking to you so sweetly. You move a little closer to him in the water, giving you the chance to check him out. Kento clearly takes his workouts quite seriously given the fact that he is so jacked.
You blush, “You’re one to talk, Kento…”
He laughs at your cute attempt at returning the compliment. He wraps one of his arms around your shoulders, pulling you even closer to him. You’re inches away from one another. Your breath hitches in your throat when you feel his hand cupping your chin.
“I can’t hold back, please don’t be angry with me for this.”
You don’t even get a chance to think properly before you feel Kento’s cushioned lips onto yours. The kiss begins tentatively but when he feels you kissing back, he really deepens it. His tongue soothes against your bottom lip, parting your lips. The minute your tongues touch, you swear it’s all over for you. You’re in so deep now, you can’t even really deny your feelings for him anymore.
Your tongues rub and roll together sensually. You move to begin running your fingers through his soft blond hair. He grunts in appreciation as you begin tugging on it so softly. He’s enamored by this very moment and he’s enamored by you. You’re about to straddle him when the sound of another sliding door makes you both jump apart.
The elderly woman is smirking, “Oh! I’m sorry, have I disturbed you?”
Kento sighs, “No ma’am. We were just headed back to our room.”
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪
You’re tired when you wake up the next day. Your night was filled with you and Kento trying to tiptoe around the situation that happened in the onsen. But nothing was going to be able to erase and take back that steamy makeout session.
You sleep in the big bed, and Kento ends up sleeping on a soft cot in the corner of the room. You dream of him confessing, but your dreams are also plagued with him confessing to someone else. It’s a redheaded woman that you’ve never met before, but she seems to know Kento well.
And so when you awake the next morning, you’re grumpy and groggy. Kento greets you with a freshly brewed pot of coffee and some complimentary breakfast from the elderly lady. Neither of you talk about what happened in the onsen. It’s a comfortable yet somewhat awkward silence as the two of you eat breakfast and get ready for your mission.
The elderly woman becomes much too helpful the moment you ask her the details about the mission. She sends you both in the direction of an old and abandoned inn on the outskirts of town. It’s a place that's frequented by the local teens and they’ve all claimed to be bothered and attacked by some unknown entity.
Once you make your way there, the feeling of the cursed energy becomes very heavy. You use Scorpios power; the ability to have a bunch of little scorpions head inside to scope out the situation. Kento is also alert, but he waits for the return of the scorpions.
“There’s a decently sized curse in there.” You say to Kento as the scorpions begin to dissipate.
He hums in agreement, “Alright. Let’s go in there and get rid of it.”
The curse ends up being a giant blob of green goop; a mouth in place of a proper face. It squeals and shrieks, making you and Kento both annoyed by the sounds it makes. He moves over to you, wrapping his arm around you. This makes your heart skip a beat.
“I think we can double-team this, yeah?”
You nod your head, “Of course!”
You summon some cursed energy in your hands, summoning Sagittarius’ bow and arrow. Kento settles behind you, his own blade drawn. Then with him using his Ratio technique, you fire off Sagittarius’ arrow. It hits with scary accuracy, the shot ending up right in the weak spot of the curse thanks to Kento’s cursed technique.
As the blob begins to disintegrate, you feel Kento’s warm breath still on your neck. He doesn’t pull away just yet, instead he nuzzles his face in the crook of your neck. A soft sound comes from him, almost a plea to keep you where you’re standing.
“I promise,” he whispers in your ear. “I’m going to take you out on a proper date when we get home.”
And with that, he seals the deal with a tender kiss.

He was staring at her in a way no one had in her entire life. She couldn’t read anything in his eyes - not surprise, not fear, not malicious intent - nothing. (wolfrry, werewolf!harry, alpha!harry, ranger!y/n)
Lupus Noctis- Masterlist, Author’s Note & Warnings
Chapter 1 (word count: 4.1k) / alternatively, read on wattpad
“Ready to head out for patrol?”
Y/N looked up at her colleague before switching off her laptop for the day “Yeah, let’s go. Finished for the day, anyway.”
“Good. Eager to get home early, I never sleep well on a full moon, I’ll just toss and turn the whole night, least I can do is try and turn in early.”
“Really? Thought that was just a myth or something. Just close the curtains.”
Nick shrugged as he locked up the station behind them “It’s not that, it’s not even shining directly through my window. For the longest time, I didn’t even make the connection until an ex of mine figured out I could never sleep through full moons.”
“So then why aren’t you the one on watch duty tonight?”
He furrowed his brows at her as they started going down the trail they usually took when they started their nightly patrol “What, like you don’t sleep while you’re on watch duty?”
“I do, but the bed in there is awful. So it’s not a good sleep anyway. You could’ve taken one for the team.”
“I mean, I’ve been stationed here long before you came along, so I did actually spend quite a few full moons while on watch duty, thank you very much. It’s guaranteed no sleep. At least at home I maybe get 2-3 hours in.”
“Awh you poor man, you,” Y/N teased as they ascended an area of the trail where it became steep.
“Right? Speaking of. You’ve been here almost 2 months now. How are you liking it so far?”
“It’s… definitely not what I was expecting. But in a good way, I think. The only thing that I’m most phased by is how secluded this place seems most of the time when it’s not even that far outside town. I was expecting a bit more… action?”
Nick laughed lightly “Action? Like what?”
“I dunno. More wildlife interaction, for one.”
“God, Y/N. You’re such a rookie” he snickered. “You’ll get your fair share of wildlife, don’t you worry.”
Y/N wouldn’t call herself a rookie in general. Maybe for this particular job, but she was confident in her skills. A trained survivalist and ranger. She could identify species of birds, reptiles, mammals, and plants from sight alone. She knew how to build a fire, climb a tree, make a shelter from only what the forest could provide, and forage for food. She could do it all, despite being a newbie to the team. She felt like she was probably even more skilled than Nick. But as much confidence as she had in herself, she knew the forest, mountains, and wildlife were due respect. Especially during the night.
“I mean, don’t you find it odd that the bears are so few around here? Like ok… boars and rabbits and what have you, but where are all the bears? I’m convinced they’re hidden somewhere in the deeper parts of the forest.”
“Haven’t you patrolled deeper in? With Karl, maybe?” Nick asked with brows raised.
“No, I have, but we hardly saw anything exciting. You can’t really believe we only got the 3 bears we’ve spotted this year around here. I mean, the place is massive,” Y/N's breath was slightly labored as they continued along the steep path, "The highest points are so difficult to access, the few times we actually get up there can’t really give us that great of an insight.”
“Bears are nosey. They’d have come down to explore way more had they really been cooped up high up there. I know it’s odd, but there’s just not that many. I’m sure there’s more than the 3 we’ve inventoried, definitely. But I wouldn’t expect many more deeper in.”
“What does Karl think? He’s not much of a talker.”
In all honesty, Y/N preferred patrolling with any other of their colleagues. She wasn’t big on small talk, which Nick seemed to have a penchant for. She much rathered be vigilant and actually do her job whilst patrolling instead of listening to his mindless chit-chat. Or maybe it just irked her ‘cause she had a feeling he had a thing for her and was worried he’d try more one day.
“He’s on the same page. He’s been here the longest and has seen most of this forest, but it’s always been like this. I’d say we’re lucky not to be handling that many bears. Maybe look for excitement outside of work.”
Y/N let that comment at the end slide. She got the vibe that Nick might have been trying to flirt with her once or twice but she wasn’t about to entertain any workplace romance. Especially not with him, since that would definitely not amount to much excitement if she was being honest.
“Maybe if we were stationed at the highest point we’d have a better understanding of what really goes on in the deepest parts…”
“Yeah, no. You’ll see once we hit winter, there’s no way to make it to the top, no SUVs or ATVs are gonna get you there unless we hiked up there and stationed for longer periods of time. And that’s definitely not in the job description for me, I didn’t sign up for ranger life full time.”
“Suppose you’re right… It’s a difficult climb even when dry. I don’t think I could’ve driven the 4x4 on my own up there. Karl definitely knows the trail like the back of his hand and we got stuck a few times anyway – what was that?”
“What was what?”
“Didn’t you hear that?”
They both perked their ears up and listened intently but there was nothing to be heard except for the usual forest noises. “Sounded like a wounded pup.”
They kept on listening for a while and then slowly resumed their trek, “Well if it was a pup, you know what that means. Where there’s a pup, there’s a she-wolf guarding it with her life. Honestly, I’d have much rathered had more bears on our hands than all these wolves.”
“At least they keep their distance, not as nosey as bears are, as you put it.”
“Unless you get in their way,” Nick cautioned.
Y/N knew the story, knew who she'd replaced when she got this job, and what had happened to him. Safe to say, she didn’t want to stumble upon any wolves while patrolling on foot. Whenever they were inventorying fauna they would take their jeeps for a reason.
“But the pup sounded like it was hurting…”
“Virtually impossible. They’d never let a pup stray from the pack. You’re just not used to hearing them up close. It’s deceiving, even the young are quite feral. And never by themselves.”
Y/N was not convinced, she knew what she’d heard, but then why wasn’t the pup crying out again? Maybe she’d imagined things. And Nick was definitely right about not going near a wolf pup.
After finishing doing their nightly rounds, Nick got in his car and drove away, leaving Y/N to peace and quiet.
She filled her water bottle and turned the radio on. The radio station Y/N usually listened to began crackling and the fuzzy noise was more annoying than silence, so she turned it off. She wondered if the moon was affecting the equipment at all. Normally she had no issues listening to the station. It was one of the few that typically came in crystal clear. She shrugged as she sipped her water.
The night shift wasn’t all that bad. It could be a little creepy. The dark, dark night, the noises coming from the forest, the chill in the air, the silence inside the station… She tried to ignore the strange feeling she had in her chest. Something felt off. Perhaps it was because it was her first night shift during a full moon. Perhaps it was nothing. Perhaps it was just that she couldn’t listen to a little bit of music while she did her paperwork. The music made things feel lighter.
The tiny station wasn’t anything special, but it did have some very high-tech equipment, medical-grade kits, room for a bed, a table, a bathroom, a desk, and an entry area for any wandering humans. The daytimes are for people. During the day shift, she was used to encountering a person here and there. People would occasionally come into the station with a question during daylight hours. But at night, it was animals. They’d usually run off before she could spot them. She’d hear them, she’d take notes and infrared pictures, and use the data to compile for inventorying and informational purposes.
Finishing half of her bottle of water, Y/N locked up the room with the computer and turned the sign on the window to the station so it read ring bell for help just in case anyone were to wander toward the station. After dark, the forest park was closed, except to registered campers, but that didn’t always stop people from finding their way inside anyway.
She was about to settle in with her book when she heard the same wail as before, much fainter this time due to how far away she now was from the place she’d heard it initially. And even then, she registered it would’ve been across a clearing that was most probably amplifying it and making it sound way closer than it actually was.
Her keys in her hands, she debated what to do. What if it was hurt? It sounded like it was hurt. After all, part of her job as a ranger was to ensure the wildlife’s safety, and poachers were unfortunately hard to keep at bay.
It didn’t necessarily have to be a wolf. There were all sorts of pups that sounded about the same at an early age. Could’ve very well been a stray dog even, not unheard of, and actually much more probable to roam on its own than a wolf. Maybe it was attacked by a wolf and left to suffer, maybe it wasn’t poachers at all. Maybe, maybe, maybe. The possibilities were endless.
She thought to call Nick back in, after all, how far could he have gone? But she felt a sense of urgency taking over her, well, if worse came to worst - she was armed and knew her way around the woods.
Wolves travel in packs. There’s no way there was just this one pup and maybe its mother - no, she’d have heard them from afar. And especially with the full moon, they were bound to be vocal.
Just to be safe though, she took the Jeep. Making sure to keep a low profile - after all, the moon was up and was definitely aiding her way around the forest without having to turn on the headlights - she knew the general direction she was going in, but couldn’t help but wish the pup would make some noise so that she’d be able to locate it more easily.
She kept her window down and her engine revving to a minimum as she made her way as close to the clearing as possible. She’d have to go on foot soon, but she would leave the car close enough to make a run for it if needed.
The cracking of twigs underfoot and the bright moon rising above made her feel grounded. The moon gave her a sense of direction, while the dried twigs let her know she was stepping on solid ground. Though it was only visible when the curtain of leaves opened every ten feet or so, it was the moon that would help guide her back toward the path.
Y/N stopped and closed her eyes. She wanted to hear it again, the noise that she’d heard earlier. It could have been a wolf. It was very likely a wolf or stray dog. But she wanted to hear it once more and then she’d turn back, she promised herself. With her eyes closed and the sounds of the wind blowing through the brush and the tree limbs, the scent of pine and wood all around, she felt calm. These moments were the ones she considered a perk of the job. Being in nature, still, and quiet with a cry of an owl or a small peep of a fox.
She sighed and opened her eyes. Her heart rate had calmed considerably. The silence of the moment (though not without the noises of nature all around) had made her feel peaceful. Y/N shook her head and laughed at herself. She was silly to wander off the path in this off-limits zone. It was dangerous at night. It was time to head back to the trail.
And there it was again! The whimpering of the pup, but this time around, she could also hear muttering. Human muttering. Poachers, then. Just her luck. She knew she had no choice but to call in reinforcement in this case - there was no way she was gonna arrest people on her own, even if by some miracle there was only one person, which was never the case anyway. She went for her walkie-talkie and then fumbled for her phone instead, realizing yet again she was alone at the station for the night. Nick was gonna have to make that u-turn after all.
But just when she was about to make the phone call, she stumbled upon a very peculiar scene.
There was just one man - oddly enough, probably an amateur since he didn’t know this was definitely not a one-man job, and he was holding the pup close to him, while he was kneeling on the ground in front of it.
She couldn’t tell the exact breed of the pup. She was too far away and it was too young to tell, but the man was the one she was casting all her attention upon now. He seemed to be in some sort of physical pain, he was contorting and grunting, which was what was making the pup whimper. It didn’t seem to fear the man, but it was clearly compassionate to his suffering.
Still - what the hell was this man doing? Had the pup been the one to cause him harm, he’d have hurt it by now, she’d seen her fair share of human cruelty. But the pup was not budging. Also, the man was speaking to it, whatever he was muttering was more than just grunts of pain - he was actually speaking to the animal.
She took in the appearance of the man, or at least as little as she could make out of him from a distance. He had long hair, he was definitely a tall person, even knelt on the ground, she could tell. His appearance was overall very… unique. Certainly not your average Joe the poacher.
An idea came to her that made her grasp her rifle more tightly than before. What if he was some sort of hippie weirdo, some sort of witchcraft enthusiast that was looking to perform some sacrifice on the pup? With the way his body was contorting, and the chants he was seemingly performing, his overall appearance, the dark clothes, the long hair - it all added up. He was gonna sacrifice the pup for some pagan ritual and she wasn’t about to sit there and watch him take out a knife or something right before her eyes, hurting the pup before she could intervene!
“Stop right there!”
The man’s eyes darted toward her immediately and she could’ve sworn they shined a bright yellow hue when they made eye contact. Clearly, her imagination was running wild with this whole pagan ritual scenario she’d been envisioning just earlier because the closer she got the more the man looked as normal as any.
Well. Maybe that wasn’t quite the right way to describe him. Aiming the rifle at him and advancing slowly, she couldn’t help but take in his appearance more closely. His eyes were in fact piercing, but they were a very light shade of bright green. His complexion seemed quite ghostly but that was surely due to the intensity of the moonlight that was shining brightly upon them in the clearing. His hair was unlike anything she’d ever seen on a man before. Long, silky curls, reaching slightly over his shoulders, it appeared to be wild and soft at the same time. She couldn’t make up her mind, because his mouth kept catching her eye the most, his large mouth with luscious, almost feminine lips that shone temptingly in the moonlight along with his irises. She had to stop inspecting his appearance as soon as her eyes landed on his cross pendant that hung low on his torso, his shirt open to his ribcage. She’d gotten close enough, and also, she was getting distracted.
Yes. He was unusual looking for sure. She was probably not far off in her assumptions since there was an eerie vibe to him, but what really confirmed it was the intensity of his stare.
He was staring at her in a way no one had in her entire life. She couldn’t read anything in his eyes - not surprise, not fear, not malicious intent - nothing. But she felt incredibly vulnerable under his scrutiny. She barely had a chance to glance at the pup, which, at a closer inspection, she still couldn’t quite tell whether it was wolf or not. It was weird how it just stood there next to the man, though. Like it was his pet he’d trained for years and years, and the pup couldn’t have been more than 7 maybe 8 months old judging by its build.
The man was still panting heavily, his jaw slightly set, but whatever was happening to him before - pain or him performing a chant or whatever it was - had seized. She made sure her demeanor and voice were unwavering “What are you doing with this animal here? Are you aware you are trespassing in a prohibited area?”
“Officer. I was not aware. I’ll be out of your hair, and back on the trail.”
“Stay put.” she gestured with her rifle, discouraging him to get up as he was about to. “Why didn’t you log into the station if you were going to camp overnight? You are violating a number of laws here, sir. Is this animal yours?”
She tried her level best to read him, but his eyes weren’t giving away anything. It was like looking at a psychopath, oddly enough, that was the only comparison that came to her mind. She’d never seen anything like it.
“I wasn’t planning on camping… the pup is my pet. He wandered off a while ago and I’d been looking for him ever since. Now that I’ve found him, we’ll be leaving.”
“Sir, I will not warn you again. You are to stay put until I give you clear instructions otherwise.” She looked at him some more, scanning him head to toe as best she could. He was wearing chelsea boots. Heeled chelsea boots. Velour, heeled chelsea boots… to go for a hike? “Did you drive here?”
“Yes, my vehicle is parked at the southeast entrance into the forest.”
“That’s the furthest exit. A long trek over here, at least a 9-hour walk. You’re telling me you made it all the way over here dressed in those?” she pointed her rifle to his boots and for the first time she saw a hint of a reaction on his face, if only for a split second.
A smirk.
The man had smirked.
Was this entertaining to him?
“I stopped for a quick walk, just to get some fresh air. I wasn’t planning on spending the whole day here. My pet wandering off left me no choice, I’m afraid.”
“What’s the dog’s name? Why isn’t it collared? What breed is it?”
The man looked over to the pup who was just standing there dumbly. This was the oddest dog she’d ever seen. If she didn’t know any better she could’ve sworn he’d placed some spell on it to stand so still - she’d never seen a dog behaving like this in her whole life.
“I don’t know. Haven’t had him long.”
“Sir, have you stolen this dog?”
There it was again, that smirk, only this time, it seemed like he was doing it with his eyes somehow. They sparkled with mischief. “No.”
“Do you have any means to prove this is, in fact, your pet?”
“He obeys me.”
Y/N whistled and tried to make the pup come to her, but it didn’t even budge.
“I’m his owner.” the man reiterated.
“I’ll have to take it in until you can make proof of ownership, I’m afraid.”
“You’ll do no such thing.”
Y/N scoffed “Sir, you are in no position of bargaining. Let me see some ID.”
“I don’t have any on me.”
Y/N pondered the situation. Did she really want to take him into the station? She wasn’t prepared for that, she didn’t call in for reinforcement as per protocol, and she would’ve just gotten herself into unnecessary trouble. She could easily just take the pup - the sweet little thing was obedient and well-behaved, check its chip to see if it was in fact stolen, and have the man bring in proof the next day. Yeah. That sounded a lot more reasonable.
“I’m taking the pup into the station until you make proof of ownership tomorrow. You’re lucky I’m not fining you for trespassing.” She unclasped a key from her keychain and threw it at him, he didn’t budge to catch it so it hit him square in the chest “That’s for the tourist cabin down west from here, it’s a 5-minute walk. You can’t miss it. Stay on the path, and don’t try and take any shortcuts. This area isn’t tourist friendly. This is why you should log in at the station when you plan on camping. Make sure to check for snakes, otherwise, it should make do to get you through the night,” she also threw a flashlight in his direction. “Use that.” She whistled again, trying to get the pup’s attention “Come here, boy, c’mon.”
The pup wasn’t budging, if anything it began whimpering. The man looked at it and without having to say a word, it unglued itself from him and made its way toward her reluctantly.
This man was definitely into some dark magic at the very least. The whole thing sent shivers down her spine. It was as though he had the dog hypnotized or something.
She tied a makeshift lead around the pup’s neck and secured it to her belt, as best she could while still aiming the rifle at the strange man. “You may get up now.”
He didn’t even bother picking up the keys and the flashlight in doing so. He stood at an impressive height, even taller than she’d originally assumed. He was clearly concealing his displeasure with the way he had to give up the dog, that perpetual scowl on his face was the only thing trading any kind of emotion, though she suspected that was his default expression.
“I expect you tomorrow at the station with proof of ownership. If you don’t show up it’s considered a federal offense. Am I understood?”
“Understood, officer.”
She nodded and lowered her rifle for the first time since coming upon him. “Be safe.”
She waited for him to start towards the cabin, but he was just standing there, staring at her. “It’s that way,” she gestured the rifle in the direction she’d indicated earlier.
He reluctantly took a step back, and then another, and then turned and disappeared into the woods. It was as if he’d never been there.
She looked down at the puppy who was seemingly distressed, looking after its owner “It’s alright, boy. You’re safe,” she whispered at it and then tugged on the lead to make their way back towards the jeep.
It wasn’t until she got inside and secured the pup in the crate she had in the back that she realized the man hadn’t picked up the key and the flashlight from the ground.
Oh well. His problem. She’d done her duty.
The drive back was much shorter now that she could use the headlights and not worry about being as silent as possible. Just as she was about to unlock the station though, she heard a wolf howling. She’d not heard one as close in the whole 2 months she’d been stationed there. It made all her hair stand up on her body.
The last thing she expected was for the sweet little pup by her side to start howling in return.
“Guess you’re not exactly a dog, are you, boy?”
She knew it. That man was not its owner. And whatever hold he’d had on the pup was not exactly human either.

TW: Cheating Ex, Narcissistic Ex, Gaslighting, Angst to Suggestive Content, Friends to Lovers & Pet Names
Tumblr media
“Y/N please, I won’t ever do it again. I can do better! I can be better!” Your cheating ex says pleadingly while grasping desperately to your wrists, tears dampening your blouse.
You just stare at him, face too neutral for his taste. He’s used to you crying and begging for him back, so for you to have it gone this far to where he’s begging you to take him back pisses him off. In a split second of his mask cracking he says, “Do you really think you’ll find anyone as good as me? You think you can find better?” It made you flinch, remembering how at one point you indeed believed you couldn’t but after many talks with a special friend and over colleagues, your head is clearer now and you most DEFINITELY knew you could.
You scoff, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. How many times did you fall for such an act? One? Two? No, it was more than that. And now that you’re leaving, now that his control over you has finally stopped and that the fog that once blinded your vision and masked itself as love has finally lifted, he wanted to do better? Be better?. Then have the nerve to say that you wouldn’t find anyone better than him? How ridiculous.
“I assure you they can.” A voice from behind you says in a snarky tone. His voice deep with a tinge of amusement. You knew this voice behind you very well seeing that it’s the same voice that has walked you through your feelings and comforted you through these past few months. Once friend turned to lover, Tengen Uzui towered over you, almost filling the holes in the door frame. He’s huge and could easily wipe the floor with your ex if you have him the go but he knew his presence alone was enough to completely ruin the guy.
“Who the hell are you?!” Your ex spits through clenched teeth.
“Well..” confidently wrapping his arms around your waist and smirking. “I’m their upgrade”. The feeling of his chiseled muscles pressing against you made your once stern expression switch. Do you correct him? No. Did you expect this? Not at all. Before you could intervene, you feel tengen as lips gently ly grazing then kissing on your neck. The squeak that came from your mouth further proved in your exes eyes that you were moving on and in Tengens that you were his.
Before grabbing you and closing the door he says, “You said you could be better so be better to someone else. They are mine.” And with that the door shuts. You’re shocked, confused, happy and sad all at once. You wanted to cry but also was extremely turned on my Tengens performance. You turn around and look up at him just to see him flashing his biggest smile. “Great acting back there, Ten.” You say while shyly looking away.
You suddenly feel yourself pressed up against a nearby wall and Tengens lidded lavender eyes staring at you. You squeak, not knowing how to respond or react but knew that on move could mean either kissing him or slithering downward. “That wasn’t an act, doll face.” He says while slowing licking his lips and glancing at yours. His arm quickly slips behind your back and pulls you in, lips inches away from each other and with you now in tengens arms he asks,
“So, want to test drive your upgrade?”

what you're searching for.
summary: Margo goes to a shitty poetry slam and gets more out of it than she expects. wc: 4.9k warnings: alcohol consumption, and it's like very VERY lightly implied that they had an Adult Sleepover if you get my meaning. Nothing really too suggestive in here I promise. One singular reference to a tiktok. a/n: this took me a whole ass week but I'm very proud of where my writing style is going! somewhat inspired by the film 'Love Jones'. If you enjoyed this pls feel free to leave your thoughts or your favorite line if you have one! EDIT: OH MY GOD I FORGOT TO ADD: the first poem is actually taken from the Junior novel 'Miles Morales: Suspended' by Jason Reynolds! The poem at the end is mine though lmao I'm not the best poet
Margo can’t stand poetry.
Someone gets up in front of you with a piece of paper clutched in their hands, and recites what is simultaneously the most vague and the most painfully obvious string of fragmented sentences you’ve ever heard as if they’d just touched your soul.
It’s not rapping, not preaching, but the ugly middle child standing between them. Some odd bastardization of music for people who thought they were too smart for either of the first two, but weren't brave enough to just give speeches.
Speeches, at least, are coherent, specific, and can be scrutinized.
So far, sitting in the front row of the bar that her classmate Zoe had invited her to for poetry night, no one has changed her mind.
Tonight’s performances consisted of an assembly line of men (and a couple of women) in vintage sweaters ranting about their exes to the rhythm of bongo drums, or some mildly relevant social issue that none had the lexicon to really say anything in stanzas that hasn’t already been said. She had heard nothing yet that sounded much more profound than an Instagram post.
Although, one girl had come up and recited a short poem about her late mother that Margo thought was quite sweet, and the least tortuous to sit through.
The crowd erupted in snaps again for a poet with long braided dreads and an ankh tattoo whose words she had tuned out. The host took the mic and announced the final (thank god) participant:
“Now this next one I had to practically drag over here to get him to share his beautiful poetry with us tonight. Everyone, please give a warm welcome to one of my close friends and colleagues, Miles Morales!”
A lanky young man–Margo suspects about six feet even, given the way he’s towering over the host–awkwardly shuffles over to the center of the stage, offering the crowd a tight-lipped smile.
He’s in a plain green sweater with the sleeves hastily rolled up to his elbows and a bomber jacket tied around his waist. As soon as he’s handed the microphone, it seems to dawn on him that there’s no turning back, and his body visibly tenses.
He clearly just got here, and for once Margo doesn’t know what to expect.
Squinting beneath the bright spotlight, he clears his throat and speaks into the mic.
“Um, hi.”
A few scattered ‘hi’s from the crowd.
There’s something bright and sweet in the tone of his voice that makes him sound a little boyish, and she wonders what he could possibly have under his sleeve that warranted him getting dragged up here last minute.
He takes a deep breath.
“It’s said
That nobody
Is ever more
Than ten feet
From a spider.”
Miles began the poem carefully, like he was confessing something.
“They be everywhere you and me are.”
A few members of the crowd laugh, others shudder at the thought and frown.
“And even though
We see them only
When they big enough to see, or when
They move,
Like a cursor
Across the blank white
Page of a wall…”
His voice loses some of its airiness in exchange for confidence as he recites the rest of the poem, and Margo realizes that he isn’t reading off of anything.
Either he’s improvising, or he has it entirely memorized.
“Or when we trip
The web-like wire
Of a booby trap
Or when they
Fang our flesh
We should probably
Assume most
Just be right there…”
Miles paused and looked somewhere far beyond the crowd, lifting his arm to point to the back of the room. Then he repeated:
“Right there,
Right here,”
He gestures toward the front row, where his eyes land directly on Margo. It’s not so close to the stage that she can tell for sure, but she thinks she sees a hint of a smile cross his lips.
“Looking at us,
Looking over them.”
Silence.
His arm falls limply to his side as his eyes frantically scan the audience, searching for some kind of response.
Then, someone begins to clap. Then another. Then another. WIthin moments, the entire room erupts in applause, causing a shy smile to spread across the young man’s face.
“Uh, thank you!” he says, surprised at the positive reception, before shrinking into himself again and leaving the stage the same way he came.
The host returns and takes the mic from him.
“Miles Morales, everybody!”
-
After the poetry slam, Margo insisted that Zoe take her to the sushi place across the street. It had a bar sitting off to the side, one with significantly less poets. The decorative lights hung directly above the shelf filled with glass bottles and shrouded them in cherry red.
Zoe takes a sip of her sherry and leans in.
“Sooo, how was it?”
“It was a’ight.”
The light-skinned girl’s lips pull into a pout. “Seriously?”
“Hey, I told you poetry wasn’t my thing,” Margo pauses, then amends, “I liked the last guy, though. Breath of fuckin’ fresh air.”
“Right? His style really caught my attention, subtle.”
“Glad you liked it.”
Zoe’s eyes widened as she glanced just beyond Margo’s shoulder.
When Margo turned towards the familiar voice and froze.
The poet in question was standing just inches away, a friendly smile gracing his features. His jacket is no longer around his waist, neatly folded over his arm like an expensive coat. He is with the excitable darker-skinned man who’d just hosted the event, and a man the shade of sandalwood standing just behind him.
They’re both wearing the same type of muted cardigan as Miles, but they’ve got actual coats.
“Y’all were in the front, right?” Miles asks the both of them, though he’s only looking at Margo.
She nods wordlessly. Zoe picks up the slack.
“M-hm, you were great up there! You’ve really never shown anyone your work ‘till tonight?”
Miles snorts at the wording of the phrase. ‘His work’.
“I wrote that poem in high school,” he says, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Wasn’t supposed to be anything serious, but my roommate…”
He gives the dark-skinned man a dirty look.
“...swiped my journal and found it. Told me I should read it out loud somewhere.”
Margo examines Miles’ face and imagines him as a baby-faced high-schooler, sitting in the back of the classroom with a protective arm around the beat-up red composition notebook he’s writing in. He stuffs it in his bag as soon as he’s done, because he has just poured his heart out onto that page, and his crush’s name is in there. Maybe there are tiny doodles of her in the margins.
“Yo,” the sandalwood-colored man claps Miles on the shoulder. “We about to hit up Tiff’s place, you coming?”
“Yeah, in a minute,” Miles nods dismissively. “I’ll catch up with y’all.”
The two other men give each other a knowing look before brushing past him.
“Alright man, catch you later then.”
Once she finally regains the ability to speak, Margo remarks, “You were the only performance I really liked, if I’m being honest.”
“Is that so?”
“Oh yeah, this one hates poetry,” Zoe places a hand on Margo’s shoulder and laughs. “Tried to change her mind by bringing her over here, but no dice.”
Miles raised an eyebrow. “What made mine so different?”
“Hm, I dunno…” Margo’s eyes float over his form before making their way back up to his face. “Your delivery, I guess.”
Safe to say, he looks amusedly unconvinced.
“My…delivery.”
She catches herself and quickly adds, “I-I mean, it also kinda felt like everyone else was trying too hard. So.”
He tilts his head at the remark.
“Are you just saying that to flatter me?”
.“I don’t flatter people. Too close to lying.”
“That sounds like half a poem already. Maybe you should go up there next week.”
She gives him a lopsided smile.
“Only if you’re there. I need something to actually look forward to.”
His tongue darts out and passes over his lips.
“What’s your name?”
“Margo.”
Miles hums, softly repeating the name before inching his way over to the counter where he leans his hip on it.
“Pretty. Can I buy you a drink, Margo?”
She doesn’t think her name is all that pretty, but he makes it sound that way.
“Knock yourself out.”
“I’ll leave you two alone,” Zoe teases as she rises from her seat. “I’m gonna go order us some sushi.”
Miles takes the stool to Margo’s left as he waits on their drinks, his long legs never needing to leave the ground to do so.
He has a funny way of sitting, hands folded neatly in front of him with his back just a few degrees off from being perfectly straight. As if you needed to look distinguished at a sushi bar.
Church boy, Margo guessed. That, or his daddy’s a military man.
It’s adorable either way.
“You in school?” she asked.
“Yup. Princeton.”
Her eyes lit up.
“Oh shit, me too! I’ve never seen you on campus, though. What’s your major?”
“Physics. You?”
“Comp Sci. Been coding since I was in middle school, so…”
Margo remembers the echoing ‘click-clack’ of her keyboard as she sat in an empty computer lab for hours on end after school because she preferred it to her parents’ house.
The bartender hands Miles two glasses of white wine, and he sets the second glass in front of Margo, his warm eyes still focused on her.
She’s intrigued by how clear they are - no trace of suspicion or calculation behind them. Just the warmth.
“So, where you from? My folks are over in Brooklyn.”
“Georgia.”
Miles’ brows jump to his hairline.
“Damn. What brought you all the way up here?”
To get as far away as possible.
“Well, it’s Princeton,” she says beneath a forced laugh.
“Yeah, but you got, like, eight different HBCUs over there. How’d Princeton win you over?”
Margo breaks eye contact to stare into her drink.
“Needed a change of pace.”
When she looks up to gauge Miles’ reaction, skepticism is written all over his face. But he doesn’t push it further.
“That’s fair. Princeton’s got a cutting-edge quantum physics program that I’m aiming for. Had to beg my parents to come here,” he grins proudly, “but here I am.”
Margo is silent for a moment.
“Can I tell you something?” she asks suddenly, beckoning Miles to lean in.
“Yeah?”
Grinning, she half-whispers, “I’m actually here on a scholarship.”
He gives her an odd look.
“Why’d you say it like that? Nothin’ wrong with getting a full ride. The opposite, actually.”
“Some people might feel otherwise. You’re like, the second person I’ve told other than my parents.”
“And why me?” Miles chuckles. “My poetry was just that good?”
“I just…Hm.”
Margo leans back and takes a contemplative sip of her wine, watching him over the rim of her glass.
Why did she just tell him that?
“I guess I just sorta felt like telling you.”
Margo cautiously sets the wine back down. She figures if she’s not careful, he’ll have her full government name and social security number by the end of the night.
“Y’know, I actually get that a lot,” Miles laughs. “One time, I had this lady I was standing in line with at Target turn around and just start telling me stories about her dead son and how much she misses him. And it’s like, I’m sorry for your loss, but we’re in Target right now and I literally do not know you.”
“Wait, people just go up to you and…tell you shit?”
“Yup. There was this other time at church, too. Just as service ends and I’m about to get up and leave, this short old dude–Dominican, I think–stops me and starts telling me about his entire life. I’m talking start to finish! Apparently I reminded him of his nephew that died in the military or something.”
“Jesus.”
A crease forms between Margo’s brows. She wishes she could say she didn’t understand the old man at church or the lady at Target, but she does. No, it’s not the poetry. It’s got nothing to do with words.
It’s the way that Miles looks at people.
Like he already knows all of your secrets, but you’re not worried because they’re safe with him, so might as well tell them. It’s a merciful sort of gaze; you get the impression that he won’t judge you. You might even tell him more after his friendly ‘boy-next-door’ voice coaxes them out of you. The thought unsettles her because she had done just that.
“You ever had a girlfriend before?” She asks, all of a sudden.
Miles shrugs, “Yeah, in tenth grade, then again freshman year. Didn’t really work out.”
“Why not?”
His brows furrow gently for just a second, as if he’s still trying to figure out the answer to that.
“I…don’t know, actually. It goes well the first few months and then…”
“It fizzles out?”
“I get ghosted. Something about how they’re ‘not ready’. Understandable, I guess, but you don’t have to ghost me, y’know?”
He awkwardly examines his fingers, then his glass.
Margo feels a bit guilty for suddenly bringing up his exes when they’d just met. Would they end up the same way? She saw herself there too, being in a relationship for six months before his weird pastor’s eyes get to be a bit too much and she takes off.
“Yikes, sorry I asked.”
“It’s no problem,” a smile starts to return to his face. “Onto better things, right?”
“Right.”
“And you?”
“Huh?”
“You ever been in a relationship before?”
Margo smiles awkwardly and messes with one of her fingernails.
“Well…not exactly.”
Miles’ eyes widen.
“Never?”
“I mean, guys offer, and then we talk for a little bit, but then…”
“They flake out on you.”
“Pretty much.”
“Damn shame,” he says with a bit of sharpness to his voice. “Not even a first date?”
“Nope, just ‘Read at 4:15’.”
“You know what I think it is?”
Just as he asks this, his knee brushes against her thigh. Margo isn’t sure if it’s an accident, but it distracts her nonetheless.
“What?”
“You’re too smart for them, I can tell. It scares ‘em.” But it doesn’t scare me, is the suggestion.
He smiles then, the kind that shows the whiteness of his teeth on every vowel. It’s wide enough that a dimple comes out of hiding on his left cheek, and she suddenly wants to tell him everything again. She takes another sip of wine.
“So! What’d I miss?”
Zoe finally returns from ordering their sushi at the front with an expectant grin. Miles still hasn’t taken his eyes off of her friend, while she is staring at him like a string of code, which, if you know Margo, is better than nothing.
“You didn’t miss much,” says Margo. “We were just talkin’ about our majors. School stuff.”
Miles checks his phone and lets out a low whistle.
“Well, it was lovely meeting y’all, but I gotta bounce. After getting dragged onstage, I get to be dragged over to a house party, too.”
Just as he rises from his seat, he stops and points at her.
“Before I go, though, d’you mind giving me your digits? I’d love to talk about, uh…computer science…over lunch.”
She snorts, “Who still says ‘digits’?” but hands him her phone anyway.
It couldn’t hurt to try.
“Sure.”
His eyes light up as if he wasn’t expecting her to say yes as he saves his number as ‘poetry slam guy’ in her phone, then hands it back.
“Cool,” Miles begins his walk towards the entrance backwards, holding eye contact for just a little longer before turning around. “G’night!”
“Goodnight!” the two women call out in unison as he leaves.
Margo looks to her left at the now-empty bar stool. The glass of wine Miles left on the counter is full, completely untouched.
It’s still on her mind as she's sitting in her single dorm room, re-writing her lecture notes on cyber security in a meticulous neat print that could almost pass for a font.
Every few minutes her pen stops because she’s distracted by the sound of clinking glass in boxes downstairs, or because she pauses to stare at the white wall in front of her that brings to mind one of the lines of Miles’ poem.
There might be a spider that I can’t see sitting ten feet away from me right this second, she muses to herself. The thought gives her an idea, and the perfect excuse to call him without seeming too desperate.
Margo unlocks her phone and scrolls through her contacts. She smiles to herself at the contact name Miles chose. Did he think she’d forget his name that easily?
His voice soon filters through the speaker.
“Hey, you didn’t throw out my number!”
“Yup, lucky you.” she replies. “I wanted to ask you a question? About your poem the other night.”
“What about it?”
“See, I was thinking about that first line. Are we really never more than ten feet away from a spider? Like, at any given moment?”
There’s a moment of silence from Miles before he asks:
“You…called me just to ask me that?”
“What? It’s a very pressing issue! There’s probably one in the corner  of my room as we speak!”
“Alright, I’ll humor you,” Miles laughs. “That’s actually a myth from the 90s. Your distance from the nearest spider really depends on where you’re at, so if you’re in a spot with hella bugs, you’re more likely to see one. You’re probably fine.”
“Now wait just a minute!” Margo gasps dramatically. “So you lied to all those poor folks in there?”
“Sure did. Played ‘em all like a fiddle.”
“Terrible.”
“So, why’d you really call? You don’t sound as concerned about spiders as you say you are, if I’m being honest.”
So much for an excuse.
“Don’t nothing get past you, huh?”
This earns a burst of laughter from Miles’ end.
“You’re a worse liar than me, I wouldn’t recommend making it a habit.”
“Ugh, fine,” Margo admits,  “I just wanted to hear your voice.”
“You could hear my voice in real life, you know. Offer’s still on the table, and I’m free today.”
Their second conversation, and already a lunch date? But as she’s reminded of what his voice sounds like, she quickly realizes that just the voice is not enough.
Still, she tries to sound casual and makes a non-committal noise.
“Better than being cooped up in my room all day.”
“Great! Where you wanna go?”
Margo shrugs as if he can see her on the other end.
“Wherever you wanna go.”
“Ah, the ‘wherever you wanna go’ paradox,” he chuckles. “Okay, well–lemme ask you this then. Do you like eating with or without music?”
There’s a beat of silence as she considers.
“Hm…is the music good?”
“I’d never subject anyone to a place that plays shit music. Promise.”
“Music, then.”
“Cool, what time works for you?”
“How does two sound? I’ll catch you in front of the Engineering Library.”
“Bet. See you in an hour, then!”
-
The place Miles chose had a live band playing at the front.
A bass player, a keyboard pianist, a saxophonist, and a few background vocalists on occasion. All are propelled forward by the rapid-fire snare of the drummer. It’s jazz - the easy, conversational kind you hear in the background of 90s romantic comedies where the love interest wears nothing but dark lip liner and filled-in brows with a bit of smokey eyeshadow in the crease.
This is the look that Margo has decided to go for as she sits across from Miles at a mahogany table positioned ideally by the window.
It was all she could do other than frantically adjust the braided 'fro-hawk sitting atop her head and spin around in a mist of ‘Champagne Toast’ before bolting out the door.
She doubts he can even smell it right now through the curry and garlic.
“Figured out what you want yet?” Miles asks as he looks over his menu at Margo.
“Eh, I dunno,” she replies, running her index finger down her own menu. “I’m tryin’ not to blow half my paycheck on pasta right now.”
Miles gives her a strange look, then it clicks.
“Oh! Lunch is on me,” he laughs. “Your bank account’s safe for now.”
Her head snaps up.
“You should’ve mentioned that! I thought we were going half and half this whole time, I had my whole budget for the week planned out.”
Margo has to hold back an ugly cackle at the look of horror on Miles’ face right after she says this.
“I’m gonna pretend you didn’t just say that.”
With this new information in mind, she orders a bowl of chicken alfredo with a glass of lemonade that she sips on as the band seamlessly transitions into a cover of Solange’s ‘Cranes in the Sky’.
“So, Margo,” Miles rests his chin on his knuckles and squints his eyes comically.
“If that is your real name.”
Margo giggles, and plays along.
“It’s not, it’s my alter-ego for when I go on top-secret missions.”
“Is it short for something? Or just Margo?”
“Hm,” she puts on an affected, ‘action movie’ voice, “If I tell you, I might have to kill you.”
“It’s worse ways to die out there.”
Margo looks around her as if to make sure no one’s listening, then leans in.
“It’s short for Marguerite.”
Miles snaps his fingers.
“I knew it!”
“What? You think I look like a Marguerite? Seriously?”
“No, but you got a lil’ country twang in your voice. Ain’t no way in hell Margo wasn’t short for something.”
“Man, alright,” she laughed.
“Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that,” he winked, “I like ‘em country.”
“Boy, don’t give me that! You look like you’d pass out at the sight of a jar of pig’s feet.”
“Hey now, I got family in South Carolina. I used to go down there and see about ten of those every summer.”
“Fine, but you were still raised a Northerner. I could hear the Brooklyn from a mile away.”
Miles removed his hand from under his chin to clutch his chest.
“Ugh, I feel like I’m caught between two worlds!”
The reference to one of the more choice lines from the poetry slam makes Margo snort and let out a loud guffaw, which she quickly muffles with the palm of her hand.
“Why would you remind me of that!”
Miles is soon infected by the fit of laughter and has to put all his strength into not doubling over at the table and drawing attention.
“This nigga said,” he wheezed, “ ‘I keep doing the Achy Breaky to Suavemente!’ “
“I thought I was the only one who thought that shit sucked,” Margo sighed as she wiped a tear from her eye. “But I didn’t wanna be mean ‘cuz I’m not like, half Puerto Rican, or anything like that.”
“Well I am, and that whole poem felt like a microaggression. And I knew that guy!” He starts gesturing wildly with his hands at the outrage, which Margo finds hilarious.
“He's like, one-eighth Boricua. His last name is fuckin’ Schwartz!” Miles scoffs, “He don’t know shit about no damn ‘Suavemente’. Bet he looked it up.”
“You should write your own poem, then. ‘Take up space’, as they say.”
“Hell no,” he said. “I left that behind in high school. The other night was an exception, remember?”
“Look, I’m not one to encourage more people to become poets, but you never know. Something might inspire you.”
Miles calms down and gives her a meaningful look.
“Maybe.”
The rest of the conversation saw Miles slyly gathering intel through bites of roasted chicken. He’d quickly learned from their meeting at the bar that his line of questioning with Margo ought to be less direct.
He even hit her with the ‘what’s your sign’ question, though Biggie would’ve advised against it (Margo was a Libra, he was a Leo). He didn’t actually care for astrology, but Margo wasted no time in proclaiming that she couldn’t stand Scorpios because they were ‘too nosy’.
Miles’ only error was asking if she’d ever dated–correction–spoken to one, and her eyes hardened with suspicion again. He quickly elected to change the subject.
“Okay, totally random question, but humor me. How do you like your eggs?”
Margo blinks twice.
“What?”
“You heard me. You can tell a lot about a person by what kinda eggs they like, true shit.”
“Alright, fine. I like ‘em fried, with the crispy edges. What that say about me?”
“I dunno, but when I find out it’ll all make sense.”
Margo laughs.
“Okay, well, how do you like your eggs?”
“Scrambled, fluffy,” A childish grin spread across Miles’ lips. “And seasoned with Adobo to make ‘em all orange.”
“Never had ‘em like that before.”
“Maybe I could make some for you sometime, if you’d let me.”
“Maybe.”
She remembers his promise a month later when she wakes up to the aroma of the seasoning and hears the pop of frying oil, letting out a sigh of relief at the realization that Miles is still there.
His back is facing her when she enters the kitchen, the morning light illuminating a tattoo she had never seen before.
It’s a spider with sprawling legs that cascade all the way down the expanse of skin, the movement of his shoulder blades bringing them partially to life. She hadn’t noticed it in the dark, and he was not one to walk around in anything revealing enough for it to have ever seen daylight. It’s faded, which means he’s likely had it for years.
He’s only twenty-one, she thinks. Did he get it in high school?
Amusement creeps onto Margo’s face at the image of Miles sneaking around the house, darting in and out of the bathroom to clean it without his hawk-eyed mother or straight-edged father taking notice. Picturing this, it’s suddenly much easier to believe that their son would have to beg and plead for them to send him a measly forty-six miles away for school, even for an Ivy League.
Miles doesn’t turn around yet, but Margo catches the way he stops, tilting his head playfully and placing a hand on his hip.
“Man, I can’t believe I’mma have to eat this whole thing of scrambled eggs all by myself, with the ones I just fried! How sad.” “You’re not very funny,” Margo says with a smile, pulling out a chair from beneath the dining table.
He switches the stove off, then does a dramatic spin to face her with fake surprise on his face.
“Oh! Where’d you come from? I didn’t see you there.”
He turns back around to grab two plates–ceramic ones, not the stack of styrofoam ones–from one of the cupboards to serve the eggs in, starting with fried.
Margo watches him silently. The tiny, squint-or-you-might-miss-it gold chain around his neck catches the light as he moves, and she remembers feeling the cold metal brush across her lips.
“The fried ones, are they–”
“Crispy at the edges?” he finishes, with a smile in his voice. “Yes ma’am!”
“You could really be a detective, can’t get nothing past you.”
“You’ve said that before.”
“See?”
The two burst into laughter, and the ink on Miles’ back does also. His poem was accurate, in a way. For the past five weeks, Margo has been no more than ten feet away from a spider.
They have a brief and quiet breakfast, wherein Margo finally asks to try the scrambled eggs and is delighted by the burst of flavor added by the Adobo. They aren’t too dry or too soggy the way they tend to be in restaurants - just fluffy, as promised. She thinks it might be time to finally start taking Miles at his word as she watches his back again while he’s washing dishes.
Once he is fully dressed and about to leave, Miles stops suddenly, as if he’s forgotten something. He reaches into the left pocket of his jacket and pulls out a neatly-folded sheet of paper, nervously running his other hand through the short dreads sitting atop his head.
“Before I leave, I, uh…I took your advice and wrote a lil’ something.”
He hands it to Margo, who takes it gingerly.
“Well, good for you.”
“It’s been a while, so it’s kinda rough, but hopefully the sentiment is there.”
Miles plants a quick kiss on her cheek, and she smiles easily for once as opposed to the usual raised eyebrow.
“I’ll be sure to let you know if it is.”
Some time after he leaves, she finally sits down to read it while sipping on a cup of tea, because coffee wreaks havoc on her nerves. His handwriting is strange, overly graphic as if it’s the title card of a cartoon, but she reads it.
I know you don't like poetry
but you said you liked mine,
and the way you sip your wine
has set my pen to paper,
so I hope
you'll make another exception.
You've already claimed
half of my sketchbook
because I just can't get your eyes right.
I always make ‘em too soft,
or too round.
They don't pierce through me,
like they did when
you stared at me over your glass,
eyes narrowed.
When you search my face
and pick me apart,
I'd like to know what it is
you're always searching for.

workplace romance prompts
feel free to use :)
character a starts at a new firm and lo and behold the person in the office (character b) over is a childhood friend/high school ex
them racing each other to the office every morning
them walking in together and splitting up reluctantly to start their work day (esp if they work in diff departments or are keeping the relationship a secret)
them eating lunch together in the cafeteria
“have you eaten?” “no.” “be there in two.”
one leaving roses and lilies at the others desk every morning
office enemies to lovers !!! must i even say anything i have like a million enemies to lovers posts
rather than competing to make the other fail, challenging each other to work harder and become better at their job
“do you think we should tell anyone?” “i’m okay with whatever you want. i’m just glad you’re mine.”
them sending little sticky notes to each other during work
both of them sick of the job, huddled together in a corner, faces inches apart like “no, don’t quit. if you quit, then i’ll quit.” “if we both quit then our full time job can be loving each other.” “God you’re corny. i love it.”
“what do you need from me? i don’t need this job. i don’t need any of them, okay? i just want you.”
both of them just being passionate about their work together
working in the same office for years but never really running into each other until one meeting
“i am so tired i could sleep in lava.” “come, my love. i’ll carry you to the car.”
unfortunately, character a works with their ex. when they’re unwillingly arguing with them off to the side, character b happens to overhear and defends character a while pretending to be their current partner to shoo the ex off… but now the whole office thinks they’re dating
“maybe if you could do your job i wouldn’t have to correct you.” “maybe if you stopped correcting me you wouldn’t be getting fired.”
rather than working in the same office, one works in the actual office and the other works in the cafeteria, or the janitorial, or the front desk, or the print office
both of them snuck away and are hiding together, trying to keep their laughing fits as quiet as possible
^^ “stop laughing, i really have to get back to the conference in like five minutes!” “we can make it quick.” “STOP.”
“wait… you like ME??? i thought you liked (other colleague)???!!?!(“ “HELLO???? I LITERALLY SWITCHED TO YOUR DEPARTMENT FOR YOU!!!”
“i can’t believe we worked together for five years and i’ve literally never even seen you.”
both of them being able to rant about colleagues or bosses they can’t stand
“i admire you so much.” “stop.” “no, i’m serious. you do your job so damn well, i’m in awe of you.” “we have the same job.” “and you do it better!”
“race you to the cafeteria?” “always.”
disagreement on whether or not they should tell their other colleagues
i also caution everyone who wants to write a boss/colleague story! not that i’m saying it never works, those often get tricky with power dynamics and can ruin the romance aspect. otherwise happy writing :)
